00:00:25
Speaker 2: HAFM and good afternoon, and welcome to Community Connection. I'm Tina Cosby. Today is Friday, August the twenty first. Three one seven for eight zero thirteen ten three one seven for eight zero thirteen ten is the number to the show. And on the show today, our Rita Green is back with us with the reminder of Sunday's upcoming Gospel Day at the Indiana State Fair. Rita is going to have all the last minute, up to date details for you. That's coming up in our second hour in about thirty minutes from now. A collaboration of fraternity sororities and community members. Soon we're going to host an event to raise money for opportunities for our young people and for the community at large. Again, that's coming up at around one thirty and with all that we'll also have open lines and weekend review, because, after all, it is Friday.
00:01:12
Speaker 3: Are Friday? It is here.
00:01:14
Speaker 2: I'm telling you you're ready.
00:01:15
Speaker 3: Ready for Friday, ready for the day. The rest of the day.
00:01:19
Speaker 2: Yes, I guess you know, what do you think, are you?
00:01:21
Speaker 3: I think I'm ready. It's going to be dry. I do like that. No rain today, well at least today, No rain today that.
00:01:30
Speaker 2: Way, Yeah, no rain today.
00:01:32
Speaker 3: I'm happy you think so.
00:01:34
Speaker 2: I don't think there's going to be any rain actually for you know, for the in the not too distant future.
00:01:41
Speaker 4: I guess, well, let's just say there's a little something in there, okay, a little fly in the ointment.
00:01:50
Speaker 2: Well, yeah, a little fly in the ointment. So I guess you want to go ahead and share that with us.
00:01:56
Speaker 3: Yeah, ok, I'll with the fly.
00:01:58
Speaker 4: The weather, it's the weather, uh huh okay, right now partly cloudy, mixture of sun and clouds. Eighty downtown right now at the airport, and it feels nice, looking good outside. The rest of the afternoon should be sunny. Then tonight mostly clear, but a chance of showers. That's going to happen actually after five in the morning, so early morning tomorrow, chance of showers.
00:02:21
Speaker 3: But then it looks like.
00:02:23
Speaker 4: By maybe early afternoon we should have some sunshine in there, maybe a chance of a thunderstorm early in the morning.
00:02:31
Speaker 3: Between actually noon and one.
00:02:32
Speaker 4: The Weather Service is saying about a high round eighty four tomorrow and then Sunday seventy seven and mostly sunny.
00:02:41
Speaker 3: It could have been that way for the entire run of the fair. That would have been great. But it's Indiana, so you know, we can't have it that way. We get all the season, sometimes all in one day. Okay, So there you have it.
00:02:53
Speaker 2: There we have it. Well, okay, we'll take it. We'll take it. You know, it's August, and typically August can be hotter than July. Really, that's true in a lot of ways.
00:03:08
Speaker 3: Generally it has a number of years.
00:03:10
Speaker 2: I have kind of soggy and wet.
00:03:13
Speaker 4: Family in Tennessee. They're getting the heat wave. Are so hot down there in Nashville and Chattanooga.
00:03:19
Speaker 3: It's been very hot.
00:03:21
Speaker 2: Chattanooga has been hot, they said, very little rain, usually very cool, coolish in that mountains.
00:03:27
Speaker 3: I used to live there, and that's right, you would know.
00:03:29
Speaker 2: But no, it's just just don't recall it being real, real hot.
00:03:34
Speaker 3: Get some heat there, got some heat.
00:03:35
Speaker 2: Got some heat. Okay, well again on the show today, we've got those things that we were talking about, and then a couple of other things. It is, after all, Friday, and wee can review, so we can get to to some of that. But you know, clearly the aftermath of those devastating storms and flooding throughout central Indiana they a huge concern. That's what we want to remind everyone. We here at the Indianapol stations of Radio one are helping with flood relief and recovery efforts. We are teaming up with CBS four and Fox fifty nine, Kroger and the American Red Cross with our joint campaign Help in the Heartland. Our goal, of course, is to raise, as we've been saying several times, five hundred thousand dollars for the Red Cross. You can find out more by going to our website, Praiseindie dot com and look for our Help in the heartline. Okay, say that, Tina, it's Friday, it's not Monday. It's right Help in the Heartland banner across the middle of the page. When you get to praise Indie dot Com now Helping the Heartland is helping Hoosiers again to get back on their feet, you know, to offer some relief from that historic rain and flooding. But you know, it's it's it's gonna take time and patients. So in addition to whatever we can contribute, I think we can all be mindful and be patient and just try to be understanding of our neighbors who are going through this's going through it, and not only our neighbors, but our friends and family upstate Gary. Lake County still a mess, yes, it is, you know. There there's so many that have been without power since August eleventh, Since the eleventh.
00:05:27
Speaker 3: That's a long time.
00:05:29
Speaker 2: Yeah. The utility company there, NIPSCO, the Northern Indiana Public Service Company, updates its website a couple of times a day, and I checked it this morning, and according to the website, the latest now is that forty four thousand, forty four thousand are still without powering Gary in Lake County. Now, that's down from sixty three thousand, five hundred yesterday. The outages, of course, were a resort of last Tuesday's high winds and storms, kind of like tornado like conditions and storms, and at one point, right after that storm hit, it knocked out power to more than three hundred and seventy thousand people, so true, Yeah, they're down to forty four thousand. Again, this is all according to the Nipscoe website. That's what I'm what I'm reading for them, and Nipscoe says that by today they're giving a rough outline of the cities and municipalities that they expect to be back up with power with each coming day. And today, by the end of the day to day, Griffith, Hobart, Meryllville, and East Chicago are supposed to be back up tomorrow, Hammond, Highland, Cherville and Whiting. Again, that's according to the website. Sunday, Lake Station, Monday, Monster, Tuesday, Tuesday the twenty fifth, Gary and Portage. So yeah, yeah, it's.
00:07:00
Speaker 3: A long time without power.
00:07:02
Speaker 4: Our experience, as I've said before, three and a half days that seemed like an eternity.
00:07:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, they're having a lot of you know, we have emergency relief efforts and community groups gathering together to help, and the same is going on up there. They also, you know, are encouraged to call two eleven. I have some friends that have family in Philadelphia. They excuse me, in Gary. They live in Philadelphia, but they've been checking on their their relatives in Gary, and ice is a huge thing now there is for whatever reason, somebody is getting plenty of ice to that neighborhood, to that area, neighborhood to that city, to that area because they were telling me that their family members are living with using a lot of ice. Wow, for multiple uses.
00:07:54
Speaker 4: And just think how much money it takes if you've been without power that long, you have to be somewhere, maybe a hotel, And what it's going to cost to be in a hotel.
00:08:04
Speaker 3: It's going to cost any cost anywhere you look at it.
00:08:06
Speaker 2: It's going to be expensive, yeah, hotels. And you wonder how long those generators because I don't know how long generators are are mentally. I know some are very short term, some are a little longer term, but what's the term.
00:08:17
Speaker 3: That's a good point.
00:08:17
Speaker 4: We looked into one for our house and this was like a five thousand dollars generator, one that they connect to your gas line, and of course when it's all done, it's fifteen thousand for the whole thing.
00:08:28
Speaker 3: I think it's connected.
00:08:29
Speaker 4: To your house and I don't know if it's how long it'll run, but it's a pretty big generator what I saw, but we looked at the we looked at it.
00:08:37
Speaker 3: We didn't didn't purchase obvious, I.
00:08:38
Speaker 4: Look at a lot of stuff in the I look at it surprise, I don't look when you say it's five grand, well.
00:08:48
Speaker 2: I know, I know. So you know, certainly our thoughts are with those in Gary and that you know, we talk about it being Friday, open lines and week and review and it is. And one one of the things that we can review that we touched on this week speaking of generators was the resiliency hubs that you know, a couple of experts and one of the pastors here from scott United Methodist Church. They were talking about the fact that we need to invest in and build more of these hubs. Yes when, not if, but when disasters like this occur.
00:09:24
Speaker 3: That's true.
00:09:25
Speaker 2: And it's all about clean energy. Say, you know, it's not a bomb shelter, but as similar as that concept, it's not like that concept like to be ready and to be ready with energy on hand and stored energy.
00:09:40
Speaker 3: Right.
00:09:41
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's something that you would think our government would have thought about in the long term, well for the years, I mean just years and years. As my brother has said, one of the things he's always found interesting. You know, we rely heavily on fiber in this country.
00:10:00
Speaker 3: Works mm hm. And they used to have microwave towers.
00:10:03
Speaker 4: You might remember those in different places. I think there was some here on what used to be Indiana Bell which is now marittech On a building there. They've taken all those down across the country, many of them been torn down. He said he was surprised no one thought of using those as a backup if the grid goes down, you could, you could use those microwave towers, but.
00:10:22
Speaker 3: No one did that.
00:10:23
Speaker 4: Most of them are they've been decommissioned obviously, but they're no longer around in a lot of cases.
00:10:29
Speaker 2: Interesting. Yeah, it seems like our government's not thinking too far ahead anyway. That's true with cutting funding for sustainability, right, uh, solar just slashing.
00:10:41
Speaker 3: It just doesn't make any sense.
00:10:44
Speaker 4: At the airport you've seen you heard me talk about that solar field. Yeah, all those solar panels out there. Yeah, it's like, why would you cut what would you cut funding for that?
00:10:54
Speaker 2: I don't know, Maybe the regulation surrounding the use of those that they I don't know. It's it's I can't explain. No, no, no, that's that's that's quite all right. But I thought it was pretty very appropriate, and you know, certainly timely that they came on and wanted to promote the idea of having more of these hubs for individuals and for communities. Uh, not just church members. They were saying, you know, because a lot of churches are on board. Really uh, you know, they're ahead of the game churches, but there's some there's some community groups out there that they said that they've helped with too. So yeah, thinking ahead and as we get I can't imagine what's going on in Gary. I cannot is that just like I can't imagine. That's why we are partnering with the you know, Fox fifty nine and c for the Red Cross, because the unimaginable water that has taken the homes of so many people here, you know. So it's water on one one part of the state, it's power on another part of the state, all of it, all of it equates to emergency to disaster, and emergency disaster relief is real.
00:12:03
Speaker 3: So we need to there's something.
00:12:04
Speaker 4: We can think that little creek that maybe flows by your neighborhood would never flood as.
00:12:10
Speaker 3: They have, but they have, yeah they can. The water has to go somewhere, Yeah, it does so.
00:12:16
Speaker 2: Yeah. So that was that was one of the things that we talked about this week. Another thing we talked about. We didn't get to get too much of it, but the you know, when you know what, you know what you know. But apparently the Navy continues this and this was talked about earlier this week. We just touched on it briefly, the discussion about renaming a Navy aircraft carrier after changing the name from Doris Dory Miller World War two Pearl Harbor Hero. Yeah, black African American. And the talk now is that the Navy or Donald whoever. I don't know who, because I don't know the hierarchy there who has to say so. But in short, they don't want to name it after the black guy anymore, the black war hero. They want to name it after Donald Trump or Trump.
00:13:10
Speaker 4: Okay, now he's the commander in chief. I feel it probably came from him at some point.
00:13:15
Speaker 3: I mean, he's a.
00:13:16
Speaker 2: Commander, especially if it's a black person.
00:13:18
Speaker 3: Well it seems that way, doesn't it. That just really looks that way.
00:13:21
Speaker 2: Get him out of the way. I'm you know, a president who has never served in the military. This man served honorably, heroically, and you know, hands down was just one of the biggest heroes ever in the history of the of the Navy, black or white. You know, the fact that he's black. I mean, you know, wow, he was making history not only being African American, but being a non president. Because I guess aircraft carriers are named typically after president, but in fact this was during the Trump administration. I do believe when it was announced that they were going to break with tradition because this man was so significant in history that they were going to name the battles. I'm sorry. The aircraft carrier now under construction, the Doris Dory Miller Doris system went by Dory's name is do Doris Miller. It is maddening beyond belief. I mean, if people can't, especially black people, who will carry that man's water from here to eternity, If you cannot see what is going on and how you are being erased or trying to be a rased that you ever existed. You know, the blueprint was on the blueprint was on paper in Project twenty twenty five. The actions are daily.
00:14:39
Speaker 4: Yeah, has anyone Everard, Do you know of anyone in the media who's been brave enough to ask him why?
00:14:47
Speaker 3: I don't think I've not heard anyone. Mister President, Why are they? Why are you doing this? Why are you trying to erase black history?
00:14:55
Speaker 2: Basically black people and in the military, Hicks, the Secretary of Defense, you know, the promotions. I mean they just clearly blacks and black women, Blacks and black women out. You know, you're either out or you're not being promoted, and we're putting in in the in there in your place these people.
00:15:13
Speaker 3: But don't look on But why, I mean, no one's asked why in the media. Is it maybe fear reprisal? Reprisal from what from the president?
00:15:25
Speaker 2: Anyway? Okay, but I hope that that does not happen. That would be a travesty and a grace. It would if Trump, if Doris Miller's name was taken off of that carrier and Trump's name was put on there would be really it would be horrible. Yeah, you talk about slapping the face, kicking the teeth, you know, a boot to the tushe to the tush what I don't know anyway? Three one seven four zero thirteen ten. Uh, well, you know, speaking of the Navy, we got Jeff on the line. Jeff, go ahead, how are you to day?
00:16:01
Speaker 5: I'm disgusted.
00:16:04
Speaker 2: Yeah, it is disgusting, it's maddening. It's all of those. It's all of those.
00:16:09
Speaker 6: And as a Navy guy, Yeah, Navy, US Navy as low correction their tina. All Navy aircraft are not necessarily named after president.
00:16:21
Speaker 2: Oh okay, I thought they were typically named after presidents. Okay, what what they are? Usually they are?
00:16:27
Speaker 6: You got three right now. You got the Nimic who is an admir Av Rochester nimmit You got the John C. Stennis, another NIMEUS class carrier who is named after a US senator from and then you've got the Carl Benson m H representative from Georgia.
00:16:47
Speaker 2: And let me ask you this, Jeff, did all serve honorably in the United States Armed Forces?
00:16:54
Speaker 6: There is I think some of the veterans. But with Carl Vincent, he really wanted to push the Navy. He wanted to modernize the Navy. He put a lot of bill and the market the Navy modernized. Course. Chester Nimmitz was uh basically a hero during World War Two, he was in charge of the Atlantic Fleet during the war against the Japanese, and uh, both Carl Vincent and most John C. Stennon the most segregationists. Okay, all right, being the resident. Then you had the Enterprise, which is the third Enterprise being in construction right now. Is that Joe aren't four class? Of course, JODL four and John F. Kennedy were better navy, guy, They were Navy. And there are the three uh, John F. Kennedy, the Enterprise and the Doris Miller are in construction right now. Joe d R four class which is going to prove, which is going to replace the Nimitz class UH aircraft carriers. Now we're talking about a five time draft dodger. Eric, He's a draft dodger.
00:17:59
Speaker 7: Boons.
00:18:01
Speaker 6: I convicted felon Dory Miller during the attack on Pearl Harbor shut down possibly two, if not three Japanese zeros during the attack. And he had no train in that gun whatsoever.
00:18:15
Speaker 8: He was a chef, a cook.
00:18:18
Speaker 6: And he wris here his commanding officer in another sailor who were wounded, and he shut down two, if not three Japanese zero. All right, I know, I noticed some brothers out there who voted for Trump? You did you? You know y'all out there, you black Republicans. Saw a bunch of you guys raid my dumpster this morning.
00:18:38
Speaker 8: You know.
00:18:38
Speaker 6: But I'm gonna leave down the low Tina and Eric gotta respect. But as a sailor, you know, I always talking to about correspondent with my cousin's he's a navy guy too. How sick to the stomach we are? Y? You going to this honorable man who was killed in action, Dorry Miller was killed in action in the Pacific War, killed lost his life And this is like two years out to Pe Harbor and you're gonna put this pedal pile. I got a name for you, how about the US? This pedophile? Yeah, and then it's kind of bad look to take a name of it. They put another name on there.
00:19:16
Speaker 2: Oh, is that is that true?
00:19:18
Speaker 8: Is that?
00:19:18
Speaker 2: What is that? What the the folklore behind that is?
00:19:21
Speaker 6: I I hadn't heard.
00:19:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, take one off that.
00:19:24
Speaker 9: Now.
00:19:24
Speaker 2: Let me let me ask you this, what do you think I need to get in a few because I was just going through stuff that we had touched on. I mean, and I need to get more. Probably a more official segment here. But uh, I guess I need to we need to find out the likelihood that this will happen that doors.
00:19:40
Speaker 6: Oh, there's a lot. There's a lot of outrage right now, a lot, you know, in the halls of Congress of course, in the public. People on Facebook are exploding. You know, of course you maga, but maga, there are a COVID who cares about them. They're COPD so we don't. So they don't tell.
00:19:56
Speaker 5: Uh.
00:19:56
Speaker 6: I like to hear what some of these black Republicans got to say about it. No, like I said, they didn't. They need to stay out of people's dumpsters and run off people's trash and food whatever. But you know, in a sire, the Navy was segregated at that time. Only John Black could get was either bolts and Bates or cooks shot and or its orchestruction. Uh because the white Southerners they were Democrats. Tell the big switch. Some of you, I want to always want to accuse the Democrats, DOUN, the KKK and Jim Crow.
00:20:31
Speaker 5: Well that is true.
00:20:32
Speaker 6: To some degree. But we know here Indiana, the republic guys were heaving ku klux Klang or DC Stevenson and whatnot. But that's either herodads had a great switch in sixty public LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act and the voting rights that that's when they switched. So you're current Southern Democrats are now Republicans, Strong Thurman, Jimmyhams. Even Mitch McConnell was a Democrat, but he got mad because LBJ signed the Civil Rights after your voting right there. But the reality is this was disgrace. And if you ain't out raised, some draw with you. Yeah, ros, I mean George mill was a war hero, a war.
00:21:10
Speaker 2: Hero, war here, decorated war hero.
00:21:12
Speaker 6: Yes, yes, a war hero. And then you had Chaffee. Uh, I can't man, I can't think of his name. He was an Air Force four star general. And that public drunken rapist he Hens took his name off the walls, manufacturer's outdown. He was an Air Force guy. He's a four star general, fighter pilot, great fighter pilot during the Vietnam War.
00:21:36
Speaker 2: And and what's his hexit? Oh wow, Daniel Chappie James.
00:21:44
Speaker 6: J Yeah, that's him.
00:21:45
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's him, a fighter James fighter pilot in US Air Force seventy five, became the first African American.
00:21:53
Speaker 3: I remember hearing that name to reach rank.
00:21:56
Speaker 2: A four general.
00:21:57
Speaker 6: But the fustige air man they took the he first, he had the uh memorial today Tuskegee air Man. He took that down and the corress guy on his cage and he put it back up. So you know, yeah, I think about a black Republican right now, Tina one. You know, because I'm a sailor. You know, sailors are known consorts.
00:22:24
Speaker 4: Well, we got to keep it clean, Jeff, you got to keep it clean on the air.
00:22:27
Speaker 6: I mean, yeah, we're worse than truck drivers.
00:22:30
Speaker 2: Wow, Popeye the sailor man.
00:22:34
Speaker 6: That's right, that's right, he never right, yes.
00:22:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, but yeah, Jeff, it is I mean, and and Eric as a.
00:22:41
Speaker 6: Good question, and try to depend what these clowns try to do with these vegas. Try to defend it.
00:22:49
Speaker 2: I want you to think, well, yeah, what is the reason for that, what's the reason for that? Why why would you need that? And it's clear you're not trying to change the name of any of the other ones. That this one is under construction, so it may.
00:23:03
Speaker 6: Not even have it may not even have it. But Pedophile and this draft dodge, you couldn't go to Vietnam and fight for his country. My cousins, they all had to go to Vietnam. Of course, my father went to World War Two.
00:23:17
Speaker 5: I thought, you know, I.
00:23:18
Speaker 6: Was in Beirut, Lebanon. You know, I saw a bunch of Marines getting massacred because.
00:23:23
Speaker 2: Of everything in this world. Yeah, and and and Jeff, thank you. We appreciate you and the service of all your family.
00:23:31
Speaker 6: Well brothers out there, because I need to call in.
00:23:34
Speaker 2: I can't say we appreciate you enough. We really do.
00:23:37
Speaker 8: Uh.
00:23:37
Speaker 2: But I just don't know why everything has to be in deference to him, especially if you are of color, if you are color.
00:23:45
Speaker 6: About his Uh, he thought more about the green grass that he just news that he's abilities that to doe those young men and women who are on Abraham Lincoln who are living in the whole condition. He didn't even mention the people here in Indiana who are your little floody. Uh, the damages.
00:24:01
Speaker 2: He's mad Indiana didn't do district redistricting for him. He's not happy. That's why in Maryland, Wes Moore, the governor there, was saying that petty politics are are being played in Maryland with federal flood. You know, federal aid. In the meantime, people are hurting, they're they're dying, they're you know, in the process of I don't know if any debts have been reported, but it's just it's it's just a terrible thing. And to let it go on and for you know, the Congress, the enablers, the Republicans in Congress.
00:24:37
Speaker 6: Who have yet, ever.
00:24:40
Speaker 2: Ever, ever, ever reined him, and they there's a special place. Yeah, he's but he's he gets the short end of the stick because he's from a democratic state that has a democratic governor. And Maryland probably didn't vote for him, but he was saying that some of the flood ravaged or weather ravaged areas are in extremely read Trump counties that that did put him, that did vote for him overwhelmingly, And so he's punishing his own people as well.
00:25:13
Speaker 3: No, you know what I'm gonna say.
00:25:16
Speaker 6: This is about Mega, and Mark Twain said it better than anybody. You know, it's easier as the fool is the one that convinced that they've been fooled. You know, the truth means nothing to an idiot who's willing to believe a lie. So Mega, he doesn't like you. All you people that live in trailer parks and what now you don't like you.
00:25:36
Speaker 5: No, unless you've.
00:25:38
Speaker 6: Got to be or in behind your name and billionaire or millionaire, you want nothing to do with you.
00:25:43
Speaker 2: Yeah. I am really, really really hoping that this this story Miller thing.
00:25:49
Speaker 6: I don't think he's going to happen, but just the idea that you wanna do some pull of stone like this.
00:25:55
Speaker 2: You don't think it's gonna I I don't know, Jeff, I'm not I'm not as optimistic as I I hope not too. I hope not to. But that and again that would thank you. Thank you, Jeff. I appreciate your calling. Thank you again, and your family, uh, and the friends that you have for your service that we have so greatly measured.
00:26:13
Speaker 6: Arnie Navy Marine Corps, all of all four of you guys, you know, you call it in and uh, they just coward Donald. He's a draft dodger, draft dodger, just like Bill Rally and Rush Limbaugh and Ted Newgen all college draft dodgers, you know, and uh you know, oh.
00:26:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, alrighty, Jeff, Donald Trump, I got a bronze star.
00:26:40
Speaker 6: Donald Trump, you didn't get you a bronze star.
00:26:45
Speaker 2: Thanks Jeff, have a great weekend. Jeff never never holds back.
00:26:49
Speaker 3: No, he does not. He lets it out, he lets it.
00:26:51
Speaker 2: But he militarily speaking. He speaks from experience.
00:26:54
Speaker 3: He does He's been there, he knows what they.
00:26:57
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the difference between somebody that just calls in and says, you know, just says things, as opposed to those who know what's what's.
00:27:05
Speaker 3: Going on, those who know who've been there.
00:27:08
Speaker 2: I don't know. I just have a sinking feeling that the fact that it's even being discussed is worrying to me because.
00:27:19
Speaker 3: Why is he spending so much time focusing I think I know.
00:27:22
Speaker 2: The answer, Well, it's not. It takes away from the EPs.
00:27:25
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I was going to say.
00:27:26
Speaker 2: And it creates outrage and diverted attention to that. So anyway, I got a lot more stuff open lines wee can review. We also are going to be talking about a fundraising event coming up to help out others, So we'll be right back right after this.
00:27:51
Speaker 1: Let's get back to the conversation. It's Community Connection with Tina Cosby on Praise AM thirteen ten ninety five point.
00:27:59
Speaker 2: One, and we're back. We're back, We're back, and Eric by way of announcements. Oh yeah, hey we have the mic.
00:28:06
Speaker 3: I got it.

00:28:22
Speaker 2: Us with you, all right, indeed, indeed, indeed take us with you, Us with you. That's the beauty, beauty of it all. And the frustration, no doubt, because when those things don't work.
00:28:31
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, you want to throw your phone? You do, you really do.
00:28:36
Speaker 2: Yeah, especially if you're in the middle of something that come on, come on, really stop stop stop today well coming up. You know, we're approaching a season. It seems like as soon as school starts, like maybe September through the end of November. September November, it kind of is the fundraising slash giving season eight. It gets really ramped up during that time. And this next event is no exception. It's one of the earlier ones and it's to help of course, as all events do. Yes, we have with us Alicia Dawe. She is the president of the Alpha mew Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Incorporated. Mss Dwell.
00:29:17
Speaker 10: Are you there, I am here. Good afternoon, Tina.
00:29:20
Speaker 2: Good afternoon. How are you.
00:29:22
Speaker 10: I'm doing well in yourself.
00:29:24
Speaker 2: Never better, never better, just uh, you know, just gotta hanging in there. So tell us what you got, what's what's going on?
00:29:32
Speaker 10: Well, thank you so much, Tina, and thank you for the opportunity to join you today. I am Alisha Dwell, the proud president of the Alpha me Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha throlready incorporated right here in Indianapolis, and I am cordially inviting the community to join us for a royal affair. This is a party with a purpose that Alpha Meo Omega is hosting in partnership with the men of Omega PSI five indian Now Less Uplift Foundation. The party is going to be Sun Saturday, September sixth, from six to ten pm right at the Children's Museum in Tickets are on sale right now, Tina, twenty five dollars on event.
00:30:12
Speaker 2: Right Okay, Indianapolis Uplift Foundation and Omega sci Fi the cues. What is it? Yeah, the cues? What is what is that?
00:30:23
Speaker 9: So?
00:30:23
Speaker 10: Omega Sci Fi is a fraternity. It's one of the Divine Nine organizations along with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. So we are partnering with the men of Omega Sci Fi for this event. It's always great to partner with other members of the Divine Nine, and so that is what we will be doing on Saturday, September sixth.
00:30:43
Speaker 2: So they're they're Uplift Foundation that they have created. That's that's pretty impressive as well, are you.
00:30:49
Speaker 10: The Absolutely, so, the Indianapolis Uplift Foundation. They have scholarships that they provide for various young people. They also promote financial literacy, college readiness, among many other things within our community.
00:31:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, and the need is great. I mean I understand that it's a celebration what have you, but like you say, a party with the purpose. I mean, in these days and times, especially our young people, our community of course, but especially our young people, there's a great need.
00:31:19
Speaker 10: Oh, absolutely, Tina. I mean both organizations Alpha Kappa Alpha and Omega Sci Fi. We both support educational equity, making sure that our young people are prepared for higher education. In providing some financial means for them to pursue that education. So they're certainly a need there, Tina.
00:31:37
Speaker 2: So to describe the event, what's going to happen? Do people have to do anything, you have to dress up a certain way, or what's it going to look like? What's it going well?
00:31:46
Speaker 10: Sina as I said, it is a party with a purpose. Proceeds from this event will support scholarships and program efforts of both Alpha Kappa Alpha as well as Omega Sci Fi. And as far as attire, the attire is summer sheet, so this is the perfect time for the men to break out those fearsucker suits and for the ladies to throw on their cube summer cocktail dresses.
00:32:09
Speaker 2: And the event okay, go ahead.
00:32:12
Speaker 10: The event will be held again on Saturday, September fifth. It is a ticketed event and tickets are seventy five dollars and they're on sale right now on event bright and so guests can look forward to a totally New Orleans inspired vibe with Cajun and Creole dishes. There will be a silent auction. There will be various vendors for Greek apparel, jewelry. Artists will be there providing portraits on site and guests will get to enjoy rides on the carousel and our featured exhibit, which is the Princess Tiana Exhibit.
00:32:48
Speaker 2: Indeed, so what's the name? What If people go to event bright, what do they look for? What's the title?
00:32:53
Speaker 10: Well, when people go to event bright dyke dot com, they will search a royal Affair, they will see our beautiful New Orleans inspired flyer with purples and golds and greens, and they will just simply click get tickets to order as many tickets as they want. So we want them to order and come on out on September six.
00:33:12
Speaker 2: Do you have a goal you're trying to reach or you're going to leave that undisclosed for right now?
00:33:17
Speaker 10: We'll leave that undisclosure right now. Hey, with any party, the more the merrier, the more the merrier.
00:33:23
Speaker 2: Well, all right, well congratulating. Is this the first ever?
00:33:26
Speaker 10: This is our first collaboration of this kind with the amni Omega sci Fi, but we have certainly partnered with them in the past.
00:33:33
Speaker 8: So since this is the.
00:33:34
Speaker 10: First party of its kind, we want to make it great, we want to make it big, and we want to do it again if possible. So we encourage the community to buy those tickets and come on out and celebrate.
00:33:44
Speaker 2: All right, go to event bride a Royal Affair. Congratulations on your first outing and let's hope it's all a success because we need the help. Our community needs the help. So thank you for doing.
00:33:54
Speaker 10: This absolutely, Thank you, Tina.
00:33:57
Speaker 2: All righty, thank you and again, yeah, this is this is the season, this is the time. I I when I was doing Eric, when I was doing community, when I first started doing community, I noticed that, you know, certain things in certain times of the year were uh, you know more opportunistic, I guess, or or better than not. And right right between now and right after Thanksgiving is a really really good time. Yeah, you know, folks are more insight. You know, they're not out summer vacation, traveling and whatever. So you have people's attention a little.
00:34:30
Speaker 3: Bit, you really do.
00:34:31
Speaker 4: Yeah, and get shorter I should say daylight, Yeah, sunsets five tonight, something like that.
00:34:40
Speaker 2: But folks need parties with the purpose. They need to get out because it gets heavy just around around living sometimes and the fact that you can help somebody else in the process, that's that's a win win situation. So congratulations to them, you know, Dion's Dion's a member. Of course, he's a CUE. Yeah. That was one of the first things I found out when I first started working here, because I think the first week we were at the fairgrounds and there were a whole bunch of omegasques uh and Dion was right up there in the middle of yeah he was. I said, okay, oh, so I see you do. But they, you know, all of the Divine Nine, they all do great work and are very community minded and community focused, and so we thank them for all that they're doing. So still up, Rita Green are Rida Green is going to be talking about Gospel Day at the Indiana State Fair coming up this Sunday. Can you believe it? It seems like we just sat down with Rita a day before the opening day.
00:35:42
Speaker 3: There's just two days, yeah or something like that, and it's like here we are this weekend Sunday.
00:35:49
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:35:50
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like we're here all.
00:35:52
Speaker 4: That's why I was saying earlier, it's like, you know, days are shorter. Just a week ago, the sun was setting at ten till nine, and a little before thatnine o'clock.
00:36:00
Speaker 3: It's like, all of a sudden, it's eight thirty five. The sun settings.
00:36:04
Speaker 2: Yeah, but the State Fair Gospel Day is a biggie. And you know, with this being the final weekend of the State Fair, some some news has come out of the State Fair, you know, some some breaking news. You want to throw that let.
00:36:17
Speaker 3: Me let me get the I'm going to use this one today.
00:36:20
Speaker 2: M hmm.
00:36:23
Speaker 3: Do you think that like that one? Yeah, okay, we'll try that one.
00:36:26
Speaker 2: No no, no, no, no, no no no.
00:36:28
Speaker 3: It's going to get again on one more time.
00:36:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, one more time if you don't.
00:36:31
Speaker 3: Mind, here we go.
00:36:34
Speaker 4: Oh yeah like that Yeah, okay, yeah, make a note to use that one.
00:36:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, let's make a note to use that one. We're still are not too sure on the other music.
00:36:43
Speaker 3: We're working.
00:36:43
Speaker 2: We're working on it. You guys. We had to have something, Yeah, we have to have something. But uh, the best of the Indiana State Fair has been announced. All the best best of food, best of food all and we had it. Speaking of food, we had a discussion that we didn't plan on having, he says this Weekend Review earlier this week about who had the best food. The Navy. They had it down to the Navy or the Air Force. The Army conceded the Marines that you know, they all concede whatever, but the Navy and the Air Force apparently reigned supreme. They are unique. They rank high up there in terms of the best food, the best chefs, the best culinary experience in the US Armed forces. You could possibly ask for what they said. That's what they said. And so that was a great discussion. And I think I don't know about you, Eric, but I think the Air Force edged him out.
00:37:51
Speaker 4: I think so too. I think they did. I think I agree. I think they edged them out.
00:37:59
Speaker 2: If you missed that discussion this week, you missed a good one. A good one because all of the food, the preparation, the presentations that they talked about and described, and it was various callers.
00:38:12
Speaker 3: It was like, man, yeah, we had no idea.
00:38:15
Speaker 2: You all read a Michelin restaurant talking about eating good, eating good in the neighborhood, neighborhood. But you know what makes you feel good that we were taking such good care of our men and women and hopefully continue to.
00:38:29
Speaker 3: Hope they should be they should be well taken care of it.
00:38:32
Speaker 2: So those attending the fair are taking care of their favorite vendors because they voted, and the votes are in, and you plied. I don't mean I did mean to you know what, you're breaking news sounder?
00:38:45
Speaker 3: Oh no again, sure one, we'll hear that.
00:38:48
Speaker 2: Sure, there we go. Okay, speaking of food, as we often do, the best of the Indiana State Fair has been announced. So what entry one this year's Taste of the Fair by fair goers? Yeah, well it was the smork. Smork the smork s m o r k smork. Okay. It is a pulled pork sandwich with s'mores stuff on top. Yeah, with s'mores toppings, served on a fried sugar biscuit. Whoa yeah, and then smashed down.
00:39:28
Speaker 3: I knew there had to.
00:39:29
Speaker 4: Be some sweet in there when you said when you said more smork in pork in.
00:39:35
Speaker 2: Pork, Yeah, chocolate marshmallows.
00:39:37
Speaker 3: It's a combination.
00:39:39
Speaker 2: That's the number one. Uh yeah, the smork one, you guys, everybody you know by popular vote, the smork one pulled spork with small stuff on the top, served with a fried sugar biscuit. Second place came in And I think this was a This was a re turn because I know my daughter had a slice of this last year. The pickled pesto pizza. Now, maybe maybe it wasn't with the pesto because she had some kind of pickled pizza. Last year at the fair, pickled pickled pesto pizza, pizza pickled pesto pizza came.
00:40:18
Speaker 3: In second, the second place.
00:40:19
Speaker 2: That was in second place. That was the second You know, you know, whenever you got a pizza in anything is gonna it's gonna rank somewhere.
00:40:27
Speaker 3: Everybody a pizza, pizza.
00:40:30
Speaker 2: Pizza, pizza, pizza. So but the pickled pesto pizza and pickles are big this year for some reason. The pickled chips, the dal pickled pizza that I had, the pickled grilled cheese out there.
00:40:43
Speaker 4: I bet there's pickled ice cream somewhere.
00:40:46
Speaker 2: Taking the ice cream. You know what they had this year too, as far as ice cream, they had butter dipped ice cream. You know, ice cream dipped in butter. Yeah, I'm nasty, but I would think it was nasty. You know, you see an ice cream dipped in chocolate, butterscotch and butter, strawberry dipped in butter.
00:41:06
Speaker 4: How many calories could that be? I don't but see people aren't thinking about calories, Eric, They're not thinking about that.
00:41:13
Speaker 2: No, it's the fair.
00:41:13
Speaker 3: It's the fair. So you blow that.
00:41:15
Speaker 2: Away about enjoying themselves at the fair.
00:41:18
Speaker 3: That's it.
00:41:19
Speaker 2: So, but that that didn't that didn't place. The butter ice cream can not place. So first place was a smork, second place was the pickled pesto pizza, and third place was the raspberry sweet tea slushy.
00:41:32
Speaker 3: Now that sounds good. I do like raspberry tea. I like, that's pretty good. Yeah, slushy.
00:41:39
Speaker 2: No, sweet tea is what I don't really care for.
00:41:42
Speaker 3: You don't like the sweet tea. You're not a sweets person.
00:41:47
Speaker 2: I like. I like flavored teas. I just don't like a whole lot of sugar them. But flavored teas are good. Uh, And slushies are good. I like smoothies. Those are good. So you know, there you go. There you have it. That is the best of the fair. They there's a whole lot of other ones, but these are just you know, foods along main stream around you know, around down and around and that this isn't counting the Blue Ribbon pavilion where the whole Pies cakes. So these are strictly among vendors with the trailers out there on these those are the ones that were voted and you had it out if you if you looked like when you were going up to buy a corn dog or whatever it was that they had, they you know, vote for us. You know, they had a little thing, so yeah, you could vote.
00:42:37
Speaker 3: There is that new voters that's been going on all the time.
00:42:41
Speaker 2: I won't say all the time because I can't. I can only account for what I've seen. And I saw it last year. Now that means that could mean that I last year was the first time I noticed it. It could have been going on a whole lot longer, a whole lot longer, but probably since they've been voting and doing the best stuff, which I don't know how long they've done that. But but yeah, I saw it. I remember seeing it for the first time in my estimation, but they've been doing that. I just that's why I have to clarify. First time I noticed.
00:43:13
Speaker 3: It, well, it's always the first.
00:43:15
Speaker 2: That's all I can share is what I'm you know, what I've seen. What I can't talk about before. Maybe they've been doing it for five years, maybe ten, maybe the entire maybe the.
00:43:23
Speaker 3: Entire of their man.
00:43:25
Speaker 2: I never knew that, but it was very present the first time, and then I saw it again. This year.
00:43:30
Speaker 3: Well, so something that people enjoy doing it, they enjoy being a part.
00:43:34
Speaker 2: Of it, they enjoy tasting it. Although here's well money flows out there. I will say that that's true because in order to vote for the best of you have to have something to compare it to. So you're dropping some money, you know, you're going to drop some money to be able to question. Yeah, so you're dropping somebody. I saw the I think I told you that when I was out there. The Turkey legs, oh yeah, exactly, nineteen well as large as this one one stand.
00:44:03
Speaker 3: They were nineteen was as large as they have been in the past.
00:44:05
Speaker 2: They were pretty big.
00:44:06
Speaker 3: Still pretty big Turkey.
00:44:08
Speaker 2: Turkey's on steroids, probably you know, for the state fair. Who cares? But yeah, they And again i've I've never I mean two or three bites in you're full.
00:44:21
Speaker 7: You know.
00:44:21
Speaker 2: Turkey has that filling of things it does.
00:44:23
Speaker 3: It does and the trip to fan that makes you if you.
00:44:27
Speaker 4: Have enough of it, you get sleepy. Little wrong, have some turkey you'll.
00:44:31
Speaker 3: Sleep Is that right?
00:44:33
Speaker 2: Is that a real thing?
00:44:34
Speaker 4: That's why I hear the trip to fan in Turkey does make you sleepy. If you eat a lot of it, you know, around Thanksgiving time, people will eat a lot of that and later on football is on everybody's.
00:44:44
Speaker 3: Later on they're out. They had a lot of turkey. Suppose that's true, but I understand it's true.
00:44:51
Speaker 2: I thought it was just eating too much on Thanksgiving. It could be that in the combination, combination indeed, So, oh my goodness, you ever heard of one? Nevermind the itis?
00:45:03
Speaker 3: Oh of course I had. Yeah, yeah, oh I had.
00:45:06
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:45:06
Speaker 3: Yeah, It's happened in my family often.
00:45:08
Speaker 2: Mm hm you got the itis?
00:45:09
Speaker 3: You got the itis?
00:45:16
Speaker 2: Oh, look at Uncle Joe over there. Oh yeah, he's out, got theis.
00:45:20
Speaker 3: Got the itis.
00:45:22
Speaker 2: But that's coming up to pretty soon. And you know what with boys coming up quicker. Because I was just talking to my my sister the other day and I said, you know what, we got a plan these upcoming holidays because they're around right around the corner. What are we going to do? How we got you know, there's just just stuff like that.
00:45:42
Speaker 3: Main Land it all, And just a few weeks ago it was May at least it seems like it, you know, you will you wanted to make sure I was not the only one there.
00:45:54
Speaker 2: Yeah, three one seven for eight zero thirteen ten, three, one, seven, four, eight, zero, thirteen, ten is the numbers to do? What else did we talk about this this past week? It's been so dominated by you know, the flooding here. Yeah, and then we've recently added Gary in the I. I just can't imagine no power. But you know what, here's the thing, and this might be this might be a saving grace. Uh, because if you're talking about the whole city is out, what is let's look at what was population?
00:46:26
Speaker 3: Yeah, what is it?
00:46:27
Speaker 2: But whenever you have a power outage, not everybody goes out. So you know, you might have a big you know, a big square on a map where these folks are without power, these folks who are on a different grid or a checkered grid or whatever. Because I, if I'm not mistaken myself, I'm on I'm on one grid and my neighbors directly across the street from me or on another. Oh is that it? Okay?
00:46:54
Speaker 7: Same thing?
00:46:55
Speaker 5: Is there?
00:46:55
Speaker 3: People? That there are times we've been without power and neighbors have been great. It's like, hey, wait a minute, yeah, we're getting cheated.
00:47:01
Speaker 2: Yeah. That and that is it's kind of like raining on one side of the street and not on the other.
00:47:05
Speaker 3: I've seen it.
00:47:06
Speaker 4: Gary's population as of last year with sixty seven thousand and two and eighty nine according to the Census, sixty seven thousand and sixty seven thousand.
00:47:17
Speaker 3: It is, and it has been over the four number of years for various reasons.
00:47:21
Speaker 2: But there's forty four thousand that's still out. That's not just Gary, no, because you know, yeah, where the other one Lake Station, Lake Station, Well, Griffith, Hobart, Maryville, and e c. They're all supposed to be they're back now, But Hammond, Highland, Cherville, Whiting, Lake Station, like you say, Munster Portage, those in addition to Gary are still out. So I would suspect that the entire town and cities of all these places aren't necessarily out all out right, but just in concentrated areas. But you know, with that, with the numbers that high is pretty hard hit.
00:47:58
Speaker 3: I would think, so I would think it has to be.
00:48:01
Speaker 4: Gary's population in nineteen sixty was one hundred and seventy eight thousand, so it's dropped a lot over that.
00:48:09
Speaker 2: Yeah, and think of all the steel mills that.
00:48:12
Speaker 3: Yeah, USS Steel was there, US Steel.
00:48:16
Speaker 2: That opened and it was such a prosperous place and I always point to it. The first time I was at Gary, I noticed houses, houses, houses, house. You didn't notice any apartment buildings or condos. Everybody had a house, house, house, house. And I don't know what that was. Maybe it was the money that was there at the time, you know, from the mills, could have been.
00:48:40
Speaker 3: It might have been the mills they paid well, I'm.
00:48:42
Speaker 2: Sure back then, and they just about every except for the hospitals and maybe a couple of other things, maybe city hall or whatever. Just about everybody in Gary worked at the mill or had some connection to the mill.
00:48:53
Speaker 3: Seems that way.
00:48:54
Speaker 4: I found something here, Tina that says, of course, nineteen sixty I guess with.
00:48:59
Speaker 3: The was the peak population for Gary.
00:49:02
Speaker 4: One hundred and seventy eight thousand, and at that time it was the seventieth largest city in the country.
00:49:09
Speaker 3: Now it's at five hundred and sixty six. It's way down there.
00:49:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, well, everything moved out, certainly did. It's kind of left it. I mean, it's you know, I think slowly it's coming back. I think, you know, there have been some really good, you know, efforts put forth there too, There have been to get them back up and going. So yeah, never it is, but I still if it's a thousand, it's too many. It is and for this long.
00:49:38
Speaker 4: Yeah, this amount of time, and again, as I've said, for us, three and a half days seemed like an attorney, I can't imagine a week or more.
00:49:46
Speaker 2: Well, in fairness to NIPSKO officials and what they're putting online and what they've been saying on air is that the damage that was done would normally take months to compare them to repair and complete, and they're trying to get it done in you know whatever, uh, you know, warp speed. Now, they do have a lot of assistance, a lot of help, and I don't know what kind of fixes they're making there. Maybe they're making temporary fixes to get everything going again, and then when they get everybody up and going, they can make the permanent fixes that could be.
00:50:18
Speaker 3: And they may have to.
00:50:19
Speaker 4: And again, a lot of trees are down and that part of the state northwest Indiana, so they have to move the trees and all kinds of things have to happen.
00:50:28
Speaker 2: To get Yeah, and since healthcare is a driver, you know, another major employer there, I would I'm sure they have generators and things of the like to where they're not going to be. They're not going to be out of power. So yeah, so we've got Ms Rita coming up just moments from now. If she is, I haven't seen her, you should be calling it.
00:50:52

00:52:02
Speaker 3: It is a lot of fun. I really enjoyed that.
00:52:03
Speaker 2: Not the traditional type of.
00:52:06
Speaker 4: Stuff, No, no, not at all, but you walk away feeling cool.
00:52:10
Speaker 2: You do you do? And how many circuses do you go to you can buy some chicken wings?
00:52:16
Speaker 4: I don't know if any of that's probably the only one. Well, you know, you know, you have a neighborhood circuits or something like that.
00:52:21
Speaker 2: I remember my kids were at the summer church camp. It was a church church camp, yeah, and they went there was a field trip they took and they were talking about how they all of them had money, they and two of their other friends, and they they put all their money together to get some chicken on I said, y'all have money for popcorn or peanuts? With it all, mom, we wanted some white chicken wings. And so they put all their money together and figured out how with all their money, each of them could get to And I'll never forget that story because they were they were cracking up. They were telling me about it when the kids got back from church, back from church camp that day. But yeah, just it's it's it's culture.
00:53:01
Speaker 3: It is culture.
00:53:03
Speaker 2: Sure, yeah, and it's a lot of fun indeed, And what else is our culture? What else would our culture be without?
00:53:13
Speaker 3: I have gospel to have, Gotta have gospel.
00:53:15
Speaker 2: Gotta have it. And I tell you who's got it is, Miss Rita Green, our very own Miss Rita Green. She is her Yeah, Radio one Indy on air talent producer, host of The Praise Indie Report with Rita Green, and director of Gospel Day at the Indiana State Fair. Rita, I know you were busy, so thank you so so very much for making time for us on this busy, busy, busy friday. For you, I'm sure, how are you.
00:53:39
Speaker 9: Doing, I'm well. Thank you so much for making time on this busy friday.
00:53:45
Speaker 2: You got more than I do. You got more on your plate than I do right now. So so tell us what's what's going on, give us the latest up to date, and remind us for those who may not have heard you the other day when you were here last.
00:53:57
Speaker 9: Week, absolutely so, tonight is the final rehearsal for anyone that is wanting to participate in the Math Choir. We are so excited about the Mask Choir. It has literally grown overnight and I'm just I'm looking forward to just sitting back and enjoying the presence of God. But it is still open for anyone who wants to attend. The rehearsal is tonight from seven to nineteen at Mount Pleasant which is fifty one eleven West sixty second Street. So last time when we were on, we were talking about adding another artist and we hadn't released it yet, but it is officially confirmed that Lillian Lloyd will be a part of Choirfest and the Indiana State Fair. So we are excited to have her to come alongside with the Math Choir.
00:54:46
Speaker 12: And you know, we call her the ad Lib.
00:54:49
Speaker 9: Queen because that's truly what she is. And I'm looking forward.
00:54:52
Speaker 6: To that moment.
00:54:54
Speaker 2: Chloirfest tomorrow, right, clifest is tomorrow, and to when where? What time?
00:55:02
Speaker 9: It is at the same church that we will be rehearsing at tonight. So if that Mount Pleasant doors open at five thirty and the concert starts at six, and so I would say get there as early as possible because once the seats are gone. They're gone. So we're gonna do our best to accommodate everyone. But it is highly encouraged that you come early.
00:55:33
Speaker 2: Yeah, and uh boy, you cannot stress that enough, because it's funny when folks. The folks get there either five minutes. I'm just five minutes late. Yeah, I might be a little late. No.
00:55:47
Speaker 3: No, you can't save your seat to come.
00:55:50
Speaker 12: You gotta come and we're you can't put your purse.
00:55:54
Speaker 2: Down, yeah, or straddle two seats. I've seen that somebody's sitting here. I don't see him.
00:56:04
Speaker 5: I don't see school over here.
00:56:07
Speaker 2: We go, here, we go. Indeed, So, Rita, this is the thirtieth anniversary of the choir fit. I'm not sorry, choir fits just tomorrow of a gospel day at the Indiana State Fair. Uh And in honor of that, you wanted to put together this mass choir. And you say it's gone. So but what you know is it has it shaped up the way you had envisioned it to be shaping up? And what are your thoughts right about now?
00:56:32
Speaker 12: It really did.
00:56:33
Speaker 9: I was so excited, so pleased. I just sat back at rehearsal and just, you know, thank God for this beautiful opportunity. And I am absolutely excited and very well pleased with the choir, and I'm looking forward to tonight to see who else is going to show up and what the turnout is going to be. But this is really something amazing. We've never done this before, but like you said, for the thirtiest annual celebration, it's it's just necessary.
00:57:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, your vision, your vision, it's it's just a beautiful thing. I believe one of your guests, Reverend Chauncey Brown, is here.
00:57:14
Speaker 5: Hey, everybody, how's everybody doing?
00:57:16
Speaker 11: Good?
00:57:16
Speaker 12: Good?
00:57:17
Speaker 2: Good? How are you.
00:57:19
Speaker 5: Listen? I am miss Cosbying Grita and all. I'm so excited we got choir Fest coming up. Uh something. I believe our city needs to be a light to the rest of the state as much of our state is going through so much. I'm excited to see the gospel going forward by way of songs. So we're gonna groove litty us up, but most of most of all, we're gonna shine the light.
00:57:43
Speaker 2: Alrighty, So, so how many for the for the Masks the Mask Choir on Sunday? How many do you do you think are going to be joining the number? How many will they no.
00:57:54
Speaker 9: Tonight with the numbers are going to be I'm interested to see, you know, who's going to join the fifty tonight.
00:58:00
Speaker 12: So I don't know, but I'm really expecting.
00:58:04
Speaker 9: I've had a lot of people reach out and ask if it were It's not too late, so come on out. But I'm looking forward to seeing and I definitely am going to update you on the numbers and how many people ended up coming out and.
00:58:16
Speaker 12: Being a part. And like Pastor Brown was saying.
00:58:19
Speaker 9: There's so much going on. There's a lady who lives in Gary and she drove down for rehearsal and she inboxed me yesterday and she's coming back. She's driving all the way from Gary. She has not had lights or water for nine days now, and this is just something that God has pressed upon her heart to be a part of. So she is driving even though she's in her current situation.
00:58:48
Speaker 12: Like passed around said, you know, people are.
00:58:49
Speaker 5: Going through it.
00:58:51
Speaker 9: You know there are so many things going on. But there are also people who will be at this event tomorrow and at the State.
00:58:58
Speaker 12: Here on Sunday who need to hear from.
00:59:00
Speaker 9: God, who needs, you know, to be blessed, who need to feel and hear the music and the praises going up.
00:59:07
Speaker 12: So that is the biggest and most.
00:59:09
Speaker 9: Important thing about both of these events being able to reach people.
00:59:14
Speaker 12: And you know, the lineup for.
00:59:16
Speaker 9: Both days is unbelievable. So it's guaranteed that you are going to have a great time in the Lord.
00:59:22
Speaker 3: And I am.
00:59:22
Speaker 9: Grateful for Pastor Brown because he has stood the test of time throughout these events and he is always one of my favorite delights of the event every year.
00:59:33
Speaker 2: Yeah. So so Pastor Brown, at what point do you start getting excited? You know, I know that there's there's a point where you got your head down, paper, pencil and you know, organizing, putting it all together, and then you're like, Okay, I'm really excited. At what point do you does that happen to you?
00:59:47
Speaker 5: You know what I would say, my excitement comes once the event starts.
00:59:52
Speaker 2: Okay, put in the work.
00:59:54
Speaker 5: Rita is working around the clock, almost around the year to make sure that this is a stellar we can and now we're finally here and the second we walk out and say Praise the Lord, everybody, it's time. It's showtime. It's time to lift Jesus up. And at that moment. It is what it is, God is who he is, and we're just excited. I mean, I'm that's when I get excited this year. I think I'm actually a little more excited beforehand because I know some of the things that are gonna happen.
01:00:26
Speaker 2: Ah, I'm not gonna ask. I'm not gonna ask.
01:00:31
Speaker 9: Yeah, well, I can't give you what happen is We're gonna honor one.
01:00:37
Speaker 13: Of our very own Lamar Campbell, a very special absolutely a very special moment, even for me personally.
01:00:52
Speaker 9: Because I've watched Lamar minister to this entire country and pour out to so many people, and I think that it's I think it would be remiss from the thirtieth year if we didn't pour back into him. So I am looking forward to that moment. But like fast around, so there are so many other moments that we can't can't talk about yet, but we are definitely excited about it.
01:01:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, and so what what are the what are the instructions or what's what's your guidance for people who are going tomorrow and who are going to the fair on Sunday? What do they need to know other than you know, arriving early. I guess that's the biggest thing. Really, now I think about that.
01:01:30
Speaker 9: That is the biggest thing, definitely, because we want everybody to be apart. We want to make sure that everybody is comfortable. So arriving early again, the doors do open at five point thirty and the concert will start one time, So if you're not there at six it is, it's still going to go for it. It's still going to start, and just come prepared to have.
01:01:49
Speaker 12: A good time.
01:01:50
Speaker 9: A lot of people have asked about the attire, and it's just come as you are. Whatever you feel like you want to wear. You can come in Sunday's best or you can come in Monday's Word of the matter, whatever you want to wear.
01:02:02
Speaker 12: Just come and be in the place.
01:02:04
Speaker 2: And that's tomorrow. That's tomorrow.
01:02:06
Speaker 12: That's tomorrow. That's tomorrow.
01:02:08
Speaker 9: And we're excited that Nate Bean and Forgiven they are on their way to Indy, so.
01:02:12
Speaker 12: They're going to be here New Zion Temple Church.
01:02:15
Speaker 9: Tim White from Chicago, A lot of people know Tim White. He is going to set the atmosphere in the tone for the event, so we're excited to have him. One of my favorite people in the world. CJ and the Voices and Miss Lillian Lloyd. That is the lineup for Saturday, and then Mount Pleasant Choir and the Mass Choir.
01:02:35
Speaker 12: So we are going to.
01:02:36
Speaker 9: Have an amazing lineup for you for Saturday and for.
01:02:41
Speaker 2: Sunday, Okay, Sunday. The timing for Sunday Sunday.
01:02:45
Speaker 12: It starts at three pm.
01:02:46
Speaker 9: And you definitely want to come out early this year because we have some surprises that we cannot unveil yet.
01:02:52
Speaker 2: But the Master of the d there's no one better at the d T go ahead, Rida, go.
01:03:02
Speaker 12: On, Thank you. I was talking with Tasha Cobbs last week and.
01:03:09
Speaker 9: She was so excited, you know, she just gave me a hug and was like, thank you for having me, and.
01:03:14
Speaker 12: So she's so excited to be here.
01:03:15
Speaker 10: So I know it's about to be off the hook.
01:03:17
Speaker 12: But we have three headliners this year. So in the six o'clock hour.
01:03:21
Speaker 9: We have Randy Weston and Judae Band and Demetrius west and JP and then in the seven o'clock hour will be Tasha. But prior to them, we have a couple of other special guests that you'll have to come out and see who they are.
01:03:32
Speaker 12: But we have a whole line up.
01:03:35
Speaker 9: Too many to mention, but I'll throw out a couple of names real quick. James Andrews, who the City Love, j Total Beginning, Andre Pope, Angela Amos, Andre Speed, Jamar Plumber, Andy Ramersa.
01:03:51
Speaker 6: I said, just a few.
01:03:52
Speaker 8: So yeah.
01:03:53
Speaker 12: But and we have an artist coming out of retirement.
01:03:56
Speaker 9: Well he never left the scene, but he just took some time.
01:03:59
Speaker 12: To really get themselves together.
01:04:01
Speaker 6: So if I am.
01:04:02
Speaker 9: A excided that New Breed is going to be a part of this, yeah, nice, It's going to be a nice day.
01:04:09
Speaker 12: And I hear it's supposed to work right for us this year.
01:04:13
Speaker 2: Yeah.
01:04:13
Speaker 3: Yeah, the weather's going to be nice.
01:04:15
Speaker 2: Oh the weather should be perfect Sunday.
01:04:19
Speaker 4: Yeah, Sunday looks like it should be mostly Sunday, about seventy seven.
01:04:23
Speaker 3: It should be.
01:04:23
Speaker 9: Nice on Sunday, yes, over ninety seven any day.
01:04:30
Speaker 5: And with the weather. Remember, no matter how cool and breathe is, we pray that it's going to be you always learned. Everybody take care of yourself, hidd This is not the day to skip your medication, true, praise God. But trust your doctors too.
01:04:49
Speaker 2: Absolutely so, so Rita. So that New Breed, it'll just be New Breed. Right, yes, no, Israel.
01:04:58
Speaker 12: It's not that new breed.
01:04:59
Speaker 9: It's it's the Indianapolis.
01:05:00
Speaker 2: New breed Indianapolis. Okay, yes, okay, there's two.
01:05:05
Speaker 9: There's two.
01:05:06
Speaker 2: Okay, I got it. I got it. So Eric and I have been talking all week and somebody he is going to ask you a question. Rita, go ahead, Now are you going to sing?
01:05:22
Speaker 13: So?
01:05:23
Speaker 9: Okay, hold on the Okay, let's let the phone's okay. So I love music, music my whole life. A lot of people, most people don't know. There's only a handful of people that know that I've seen.
01:05:37
Speaker 5: I played the violin.
01:05:38
Speaker 9: I play the flue, I played the piano. I play a lot of different instruments.
01:05:43
Speaker 12: But I also do some other things in music.
01:05:45
Speaker 9: So there is something that I am going to do and be a part of musically, and I am not looking forward to it. But the ndie, Reggie Strong, has pushed me and he has mandated that I'll be a part in a different way this year. So you will definitely see something from me. I can't say what it is. It come to be there to see it, and we are not going live, so I don't expect to see it on social media.
01:06:17
Speaker 2: Well, you know, we we were just talking with all of your contacts and connections and just just the music industry in general. We were saying, she's got to have and we've never asked her. She can say, uh huh what what? What's your favorite? Playing? Singing both? What is your favorite?
01:06:40
Speaker 9: Definitely playing really okay, yes, definitely.
01:06:43
Speaker 4: Playing Anybody that inspired you in that areaspiration?
01:06:49
Speaker 12: Actually not musically.
01:06:51
Speaker 9: I think the inspiration came from my high school orchestra teacher. I think mister Stalbauch is probably my biggest inspira ration. He really pushed me to be the best that.
01:07:05
Speaker 12: I could be.
01:07:05
Speaker 9: He showed me the ropes of playing violin and and so I think he's my biggest inspiration.
01:07:11
Speaker 3: Actually that's awesome.
01:07:14
Speaker 2: Yeah it is.
01:07:15
Speaker 12: But you know who else can sing? Pastor Brown?
01:07:19
Speaker 2: Oh? I think we knew that. Yeah, yeah, past Now Pastor will you will you be singing?
01:07:27
Speaker 7: Oh?
01:07:28
Speaker 2: Still there is still there?
01:07:30
Speaker 5: No, I'm I'm still here. Uh, I'm gonna I'm gonna jump into the choir this year. And I want to add because I want to be part of this big thirtieth year anniversary choir. I don't miss a My my leader, Reverend Jesse Jackson Singer always told us, don't chase the moment, but don't miss one either, and so I'm not going to miss the moment to be part of year thirty jumping the choir and haulers some tenor this year.
01:07:56
Speaker 2: Okay, see he didn't tease us. I'm gonna do it all right, all right, So everything the table, everything is set right, everything is ready to go.
01:08:08
Speaker 9: All people have to do is that yes, everything is set. And I know when we were there last week and talking about this, we had a car that was talking about line dancing. Well, I have someone reach out to me and they do a gospel line dancing. So we decided to add tatty hooks. So I'm really looking forward to seeing what that's gonna be like.
01:08:35
Speaker 2: Gospel line dancing. I've never seen it or experienced it before. I haven't. I've experienced praise dancing, you know, everybody praise dance, but gospel line dance, I don't know. Interesting.
01:08:52
Speaker 9: It will be very interesting. I'm looking forward to it.
01:08:56
Speaker 12: So I'm excited. We're doing some new things.
01:08:59
Speaker 9: That we've never were done before, and it's really shipping up to be an amazing, amazing year.
01:09:06
Speaker 2: Well, congratulations, I know you've been working hard, that both of you have been working hard as well as all your all your volunteers. And I know that Sunday is going to be great. Saturday is going to be great. It's just going to be a great weekend. So I can't wait to hear, well, we're gonna say I'll be. I won't be Saturday because I got to do some stuff Saturday. I've got to do a birthday thing Saturday. But Sunday be out at the fair. Oh yeah, go with the fair.
01:09:33
Speaker 3: For those who don't know where is Mount Pleasant.
01:09:36
Speaker 9: Mount Pleasant is on sixty second in Georgetown Road and the address is fifty one eleven sixty second Street West.
01:09:42
Speaker 12: Sixty second Street.
01:09:44
Speaker 3: Get there early, Oh my, you want to be there early.
01:09:49
Speaker 2: Plenty of parking, parking, Oh, parking.
01:09:52
Speaker 9: Is great at Mount Pleasant, so definitely put plenty of parking in And a special special special shout out to as Michael Johnson for opening the church doors. You know, you don't get that anymore. It's it's hard, especially from pastors.
01:10:09
Speaker 12: You know, yes, absolutely, so I appreciate that.
01:10:13
Speaker 9: I'll also say Reverend Brown has been extremely instrumental anytime we have something going on. He's always there. He always opens the doors to a church, and that's something that is huge, you know, because we just don't have that anymore.
01:10:28
Speaker 2: Pastors just don't.
01:10:29
Speaker 9: Open up their doors, and if they do, it comes with a huge ticket. And so I'm so grateful for him, his wife and the first first family of Mount Pleasant.
01:10:39
Speaker 2: I really appreciate him absolutely well. We do thank you as well. Thank you, thank you for that. So any any final u final words before we have to let both of you go, anything you want to share or anything we forgot, you know, I think I hear, I hear, Pastor.
01:11:02
Speaker 3: Brown, Are you still with all right?
01:11:04
Speaker 5: If that was for me, I'm sorry, I've been here, but I will say my last word is this, come out, hear the gospel through song, where what you want to wear be appropriate, have fun. Let's list up Jesus, Let's keep hope alized. Let's continue to encourage our brothers and sisters in Northeast Indiana, and hopefully the prayers we pray this weekend in Indianapolis will supply some needs in deary Yes.
01:11:36
Speaker 9: Absolutely, and I couldn't have said anything more or better. I totally agree, and just you know, come out and get what you need from God. The Christian Theological Seminary will be there. They have gifts for everyone that walks through the door. So it's going to be a special night tomorrow.
01:11:53
Speaker 2: Okay, alrighty, well, congratulations to you both. Great work, great work, and can't wait to see experience and here about what I didn't get to see here in experience. So okay, all right, so much Rita, thank you, pastor Brown, thank you both. We'll be talking with you. And we must have lost h well, such so much for technology.
01:12:18
Speaker 3: Yeah, technology has its moments. It has see.
01:12:21
Speaker 2: Yes, it does. It does. Indeed three one seven for eight zero thirteen ten three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten is the number to the show. Yeah, normally Rita's here. You can tell she's busy.
01:12:33
Speaker 3: She's been here and she certainly she's busy. We haven't seen her. And last time she was here when she was on with us.
01:12:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, when they were sending out the call for the uh Mass Choir.
01:12:43
Speaker 3: That's it. That's when we saw her in first. Yeah, she's busy.
01:12:46
Speaker 2: They had to sign up and then tonight's a final rehearsal and then Sunday is go day.
01:12:53
Speaker 3: It's going to be outstanding and tomorrow My Goods.
01:12:56
Speaker 4: And Sunday, of course Gospel Day featuring Tasha Cobbs and Leonard As we talked about at the Indiana State Fair. It's powered by Indiana Donor Network and Donate Life Indiana Celebrate on Sunday.
01:13:09
Speaker 3: Indeed, it's gonna be awesome.
01:13:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, you think you're gonna be able to make it to the fair?
01:13:13
Speaker 4: Try try that, hope. So it depends on a few things and hopefully.
01:13:18
Speaker 2: Yeah, And and like I said, I can't do everything that there because tomorrow night I have a thing A friend is having a birthday party, So I'm gonna go to that. Yeah, and uh, Sunday should be good because I always try to step the first day in the last day. It seems like I get there on the first day in the final day. But probably try to.
01:13:36
Speaker 3: Get out any special deals you think they'll have on Sunday, the last day.
01:13:40
Speaker 2: I've never noticed any unless you're there about nine or ten. Yeah, toss out their food.
01:13:48
Speaker 3: We're given almost given it a couple for yourself.
01:13:53
Speaker 2: No, probably not. They probably put them in the oven a wrap up with some rentals wrap because they got another fair to I get. I don't know I should say that, I should not say that, but seems like it because they I mean the circuit though though though that a lot of them work is pretty intense. It is definitely so, and especially throughout the summer. You know, right here in the Midwest. Now, after the summer months are over, they tend to migrate, if you will, to warmer climbs, as they say, to warmer places. But right now through the Midwest, it's pretty intense because they've got to get as many in as possible while the weather is still good. They can always do them at you know, California, Arizona, Florida, you know, all of those places.
01:14:40
Speaker 3: Business always warm there.
01:14:42
Speaker 2: But if they want to make their mid Midwest money, Midwestern states money, they have to do it now, right now, right now, right now, right now. Speaker 3: Somebody with you, Yeah, take somebody with definitely.
01:17:09
Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm the boy. Those cabins have to be just about that.
01:17:13
Speaker 3: I'm thinking they must be close to that. We've got to be.
01:17:16
Speaker 4: Ricky Smiley's got to be there. Erica Campbell, her husband and others are going to be a part.
01:17:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, sounds good. Well, something that we probably need to mention, and that is that we've been talking about flooding, power outages, just basically the battering that this state has taken over the past week and a half. Yes, and for Indianapolis and Marion County Mayor Hawk seat has extended the local disaster emergency for the city in county following those historic floods. I'm reading from the ap and w R t V, says Indianapois Mayor Joe Hawk said has extended the city's local disaster emergency as neighborhoods deal grapple with the aftermath of historic flooding along the White River. His first declaration came August fourteenth, as flooding seeped into vulnerable areas, prompting evacuations in multiple neighborhoods. The second order, signed Friday, extends the state of emergency by another week, tentatively concluding on August twenty eighth, unless ended sooner.
01:18:24
Speaker 3: So there we go.
01:18:27
Speaker 2: City and county wide travel advisory will also be in effect until then, which means routine travel may be restricted in hazardous areas. Routine travel may be restricted in hazardous areas. Drivers are also encouraged to avoid the impacted areas. And again that's along the White.
01:18:48
Speaker 4: River, Yes, Ravenswood area, Rocky Ripple, that was those two areas the hardest hit.
01:18:54
Speaker 3: Here in Indy.
01:18:55
Speaker 2: So and then up north, up north, well that wouldn't be hot set though.
01:19:00
Speaker 3: Yeah, they've had their share of issues with you.
01:19:03
Speaker 2: But certainly the north northeastern part of the city in County. Yes, but I don't know anybody that would want to drive there. But you're being asked not to.
01:19:14
Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe unless you're going to help.
01:19:18
Speaker 2: If you're just gawking and right that.
01:19:20
Speaker 3: Kind of thing. Now, you don't want to do that.
01:19:23
Speaker 2: No, No, that's that's not good. So we got the cruise in there. I want to make sure that people know about the Food Compass, and now's a good time to remind folks about.
01:19:37
Speaker 3: That Community Compass.
01:19:38
Speaker 2: Community Compass, Yeah, you.
01:19:40
Speaker 4: Get it on your phone. There's an app available, and that app is multi colored. It's purple, orange, and green. And you can find free food here in Central Londiana pretty much across the state as well, which stores clinics, snap stores, free meals, grocery, free grocery giveaways, that kind of thing all coming up near you in your area. If you download the app, it's free get all that information. For example, a fresh market near you over at Esconazi Health Center. That happens I think every Tuesday. It's on the app. You'll find that and.
01:20:13
Speaker 3: More various churches that offer free food and help as.
01:20:16
Speaker 2: Well, yeah, and it may not necessarily be that you're looking for yourself. Sometimes you can become a resource and a source of help for others in need. You know, I know a lot of folks that call the station say hey, I'm just trying to help my neighbors. I'm just trying to help somebody else. If you know of somebody that could use the help of a tool like the Community Compass app which is phenomenal, and it isn't just Indianapolis and Marion County, it's all over the state, well state.
01:20:44
Speaker 3: I've downloaded it specifically for that reason.
01:20:46
Speaker 8: To hell.
01:20:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, some that I know who can use the help who weren't able to download it, but I can let them know where they can find the things they need the resource, isn't it.
01:20:55
Speaker 2: That's good. That's good. So yeah, but it seems, you know, like you say, just because it seems like the floodwaters are receding, it doesn't mean that the emergency has been lifted at all. In fact, the emergency, according to the mayor, has been extended. Yes, so there, it is not going away anytime soon. And speaking of which, we're getting a lot of guidance from the Marie County Public Health Department. One of the things one of the first things they sent out was regarding safety, your urge to protect your health and flood water and clean up situations, especially the cleanup, especially the cleanup. So you know, the let's see, you should wear appropriate two one two, there we go appropriate. Anyone who must enter or work near floodwater should wear appropriate protective equipment to reduce the risk of injury or illness. Protected equipment may include waterproof boots, yes, waterproof gloves, hip waiters, eye protection goggles or safety glasses, and US Coast Guard approved life jacket or personal floatation device when working near or over water where a drowning hazard exists.
01:22:23
Speaker 4: Yes, and you don't know what's in the waters now, all kinds of chemicals could be fuel, gasoline, oil, you just don't poist, raw, sewage.
01:22:31
Speaker 3: All of that, Yeah, could be there.
01:22:33
Speaker 2: And of course this is this seems to be obvious, but maybe not so much. After contact with floodwater, a person should wash their hands thoroughly with soap and clean water, clean and disinfect any exposed skin, and wash contaminated clothing before reusing. You know, wash your clothes, wash yourself and things of that nature. So Marin Counting Public Health Department is working with the city and other organizations to determine needs and coordinate resources as part of the ongoing response to the flooding and its impact on the community. So there we go. So for information on the floodwater safety, you can go to CDC dot gov flood Safety, floodwork, Marion County Public Health Department. Just just go there, go there, Yeah, all of it. He lists several websites. Just go to Maryon County Public Health Department because I'm sure they're linked.
01:23:24
Speaker 3: Oh, I'm sure they are too.
01:23:26
Speaker 2: I'm sure they are linked to a bunch. They also sent this out the other day that tetanus vaccines are being offered to residents affected by flooding. Oh okay, I never would have thought of that.
01:23:40
Speaker 3: I neither same here.
01:23:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, well, it says the Marion County Public Health Department is offering tetanus vaccines during two walk in clinics for residents who were affected by recent flooding. No appointment is needed. These are appointment free.
01:23:54
Speaker 3: That's good.
01:23:55
Speaker 2: The vaccines are going to be offered at no cost at the following location due to today.
01:24:03
Speaker 3: Oh, today it is being offered today.
01:24:04
Speaker 2: Starting at four o'clock yesterday. Okay, yesterday is done today, Friday, August twenty first Riverwood Park, seventy two hundred, Crittenden Avenue.
01:24:14
Speaker 4: Okay, that street time same here, that's uh, that's north the broad.
01:24:20
Speaker 2: I think Crittenden, I think it is. I think yeah. Well, and it makes sense because that would be in the flood flood zone flood area, so they're taking it straight to them now. It says exposure to contaminated floodwater and the hazards associated with cleanup after a flood, such as cuts or deep wounds in the skin, increase a person's risk for tetanus. The vaccine is recommended for those who haven't received a tetanus booster in the past ten years, or if a person can't remember the last time they had a tetanus booster. So a good point. I mean, if you're out there working and shoveling and picking up and you happen to get cut or or anything like that. With the floodwaters and things of that nature, you don't know what's in them, so you want to be protected. And the Marion County Public Health Department is offering these boosters slash shots free of charge, free of charge. And it's today today at the Riverwood Park, seventy two hundred Crittenden Avenue, seventy two hundred Crittenden Avenue, the Riverwood Park, four to six o'clock. So it hasn't started yet, but it'll be from four until six o'clock. So there's that. So there, and we have another. Oh well, we'll get to that in just a second. William, by the way, is on the line, so let's let's go back to the phone lines. William, how are you.
01:25:44
Speaker 10: Hey?
01:25:44
Speaker 5: Yes, ma'am bye, right.
01:25:47
Speaker 11: I had a question. I was wondering trying to get some information about the directory for Black on businesses here in Indianapolis. Understand that you guys are trying to assemble one.
01:26:03
Speaker 5: Is that correct?
01:26:06
Speaker 2: Uh? Yes, I need to get the information regard. I think it is in the process of being put together. I don't think it's done. If if if my if, if my recall is correct, I think there is an effort underway to put one of these together. We have not been notified that it is complete. So what was your what was your question?
01:26:36
Speaker 11: Well, we're a black owned business been established for twenty years and we're just trying to get our name out there and get some uh you know.
01:26:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there's a place on the website.
01:26:53
Speaker 4: It would would Indie Black Chamber of Commerce people. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, that's their number. Now they close it four, but their number is eight three three four to three eight through three four three nine forty two twenty two.
01:27:12
Speaker 3: It's eight.
01:27:12
Speaker 5: That's a Black Chamber.
01:27:14
Speaker 3: It's a Black Chamber. That's eight three three four three nine forty two twenty two.
01:27:18
Speaker 2: We were had a PSA on that we did. Yeah. I was trying to find it as I was talking.
01:27:24
Speaker 3: About that's it.
01:27:25
Speaker 2: Yeah, Indye Black Chamber Commerce.
01:27:29
Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, well thank you so much.
01:27:32
Speaker 2: Oh no, thank you, good luck, good luck to you. Three three one seven forty zero thirteen ten. Oh my goodness. Whenever it's we get you know, I bring everything and then I don't have. Yeah, Indy Black Chamber is.
01:27:44
Speaker 4: Indy Black Chambers. And you shared it with me before, and I'm like, well, I know it's in here something.
01:27:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's who in conjunction with so and I think it's going to be fantastic.
01:27:55
Speaker 3: I do too, once it's all together.
01:27:57
Speaker 2: Indeed, indeed, also from the Marin County Public Health Department the Health Center, the Action Health Center is offering ten dollars sports physicals during their walk in clinics and they have another one coming up. Oh, they have another one coming up. And the price again is just ten dollars, which is probably next to nothing, but ten dollars is ten dollars. I can't say next to nothing, but here we go. Students who want to participate in athletics this coming school year are required to get an updated sports physical before they can participate. To help, the Marin County Public Health Department's Action Health Center is offering low cost sports physicals during special walk in clinics this month. In August, sports physicals are going to be offered for ten dollars. It is cash only, ten dollars ten US dollars. You can have two fives, you can have one ten, you can have ten to one, you can have a five and five with any combination thereof, but it has to be c ash. It has to be cash. Sports physicals will be offered for ten dollars cash only, and that's from two to five thirty on the following days. You do not need an appointment. Wednesday, August the twenty sixth is the next day, Wednesday, August the twenty sixth. The Action Health Center is located at twenty eight sixty eight North, Pennsylvania. They also offer primary care and other medical services to children and young adults from birth through age twenty six. The sports physicals are important because their help screen for medical conditions that would prevent a youth from participating. The exam also provides an opportunity to discuss issues of safety and mental health. Parents are encouraged to attend the games and monitor their children for any signs of health issues. Concussion awareness is critical for sports that have a lot of body contact, and the Action Health Center, of course, is the one offering these low costs. Now throughout the summer there have been free sports physical I think all of those back to school events are pretty much wrapped up. There might be one more, one or two more, and we'll let you know about that. But free to ten dollars is still a nice price range. You know, free is best or free, but yeah, ten dollars cash only, it's a lot. If you don't have it, well, it is, I do understand. But and there may be some way that they can work it out, but if you come try, you know, just just if you still need a sports physical. They're very low cost. Mister Russell, go ahead. How are you?
01:30:49
Speaker 8: You mentioned something from four to six at Riverwood Park earlier and I wantn't showing what that event was, but seventy two or one critten in it, and that's actually Ravens would So I hope they're not flooded out over there. Whatever it is.
01:31:11
Speaker 2: Well, I think they're there as a result of the floods, which is kind of why they're there. It's today, it's Riverwood Park around Critendon Avenue and what is it they're having. They're having a tetanus vaccine free tetanus vaccines. Oh, I think Marin County Public Health Department. Yeah, and they want they want to get over there close to the area so that folks can come. They're no appointment necessary or anything like that, but they're just concerned about people working cleanup and things of that nature that may have you know, cuts or injuries or what have you that you know, minor that they may not know of where tetanus can can be an issue. So it's better to be protected. In the health department is trying to help with the free free vaccines chess.
01:31:59
Speaker 8: Yeah, that's an important vaccination there. So also this is open to everybody. Sometimes you know, people feel like they're not you know, they're not it's not events, these events are not open to them. So you know, all of these events, sometimes we we don't emphasize that, and then other people, you know, they don't feel welcome, you know what I mean, so other other religious, racist, queenes or whatever. So I think it's important to emphasize, particularly like the gospel programs, you know, that it's open to everybody.
01:32:45
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, we try to make it as inclusive and as free as possible. We love to share anything that's free. So yeah, but you.
01:32:56
Speaker 8: Know, sometimes these people they they feel like, you know, it's not for them, and it is for them. So uh, just wanted to mention that I appreciate and my just sometimes walking around town and what whatnot. You know, you people people don't feel like they're included, but it's they are included. So okay, I just wanted to mention that.
01:33:24
Speaker 2: Alrighty and good point. Good point, mister.
01:33:27
Speaker 8: Have you heard have you heard anything about the March on Washington Anniversary next Friday in Washington d C by Reverend Al Show.

01:34:04

01:34:05
Speaker 2: I think he does school I definitely asked him. I know he definitely does school buses.
01:34:09
Speaker 3: He may have a connection motor coach.
01:34:11
Speaker 2: I don't know if he does.
01:34:12
Speaker 3: He might have connection.
01:34:13
Speaker 2: He may he may have expanded into that area. I don't know.
01:34:16
Speaker 8: I know some people who asked me about it. I didn't really know. I haven't heard anything. Oh, usually there's a bus from from here.
01:34:25
Speaker 2: Okay, but uh, well, we are going on in DC.
01:34:29

01:34:57
Speaker 2: It could have been very well, could have been he's going to drop the green Yeah the start go.
01:35:03
Speaker 3: Go go, Yeah, the green go go.
01:35:05

01:35:26
Speaker 7: How are you? I was just telling your associate that I attempted. I saw the posting for the gala, the the Urbanly Gala, and I went to the web page. But it's not working, and somebody needs to, you know, let them know that I was interested in acquiring tickets but it's not working. They need to because I hear you in the commercials on your channel of course, and it doesn't be you know, if we're going to get in participation, then they need to have their p's and q's in order.
01:36:07
Speaker 2: Well that's true, okay, Well I will I will shoot. I'll shoot in an email right away to Kim, thank you.
01:36:15

But it has to be cash.
01:36:40
Speaker 3: Got to be cash. I got to be.
01:36:41
Speaker 2: Cash out at the Action Health Center and that is at twenty eight sixty eight North Pennsylvania sixty So. Brian says that the the the Urban League link to the Gala, it's not working working. Boy. I miss our friend there, Mark Russell.
01:37:09
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, sure do miss him.
01:37:11
Speaker 2: He's a he was a he was really you know, quite a leader, quite a leader over there, bad fighter and everything. So what it seems like it's true. It seems like it was just yesterday passed away. So yeah, that's pretty much pretty much what we I think it's a good point to stuff. It's not everything that we have, no way, there's so many more things, so many more things. But if you do get a chance, it's dryed out now, the weather is great, doesn't seem to be much chance of rain and Indiana State Fair, Indiana.
