00:01:01
Speaker 2: You're right, it was the golf outing. I think you're exactly right. I think it was the golf outing.
00:01:05
Speaker 4: Was the last one, because then you were off.
00:01:08
Speaker 5: That was a Memorial on a Monday, right Monday, the second Monday, June second, and then I think you were off.
00:01:17
Speaker 2: I think you were off Tuesday Wednesday, and then I was Memorial Thursday Friday.
00:01:22
Speaker 5: I wonder what I was off Tuesday Wednesday for sounds great.
00:01:26
Speaker 4: Oh, I went down.
00:01:26
Speaker 5: I think you I think you had.
00:01:27
Speaker 4: Yeah, you had to go down.
00:01:28
Speaker 3: To week before. That was the week before he was down in Columbus Wednesday. You were down Thursday and Friday, I was in Italy. I came back. Uh, that Monday, we had the golf outing. Zagura needed time to prepare for the birthday on Friday.
00:01:44
Speaker 4: I just took Friday off.
00:01:45
Speaker 5: But I thought you did.
00:01:46
Speaker 4: There was Friday little. It was just that Friday.
00:01:50
Speaker 6: Yeah, so maybe it was that week, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, somewhere.
00:01:54
Speaker 5: I feel like it was. I thought it was the golf outing. That could be wrong.
00:01:58
Speaker 6: No, golf outder is the first time we were together for a long time.
00:02:01
Speaker 5: Because he had been gone. Oh that's right.
00:02:04
Speaker 4: So it felt like a big day.
00:02:05
Speaker 5: Yeah, well, we're all here. We're all here. How's it going. Three weeks dude? Three weeks old today? Walking? Is he walking?
00:02:13
Speaker 3: No?
00:02:13
Speaker 5: He is not.
00:02:14
Speaker 6: He is eating like a champion. As they say, it takes a village. I mean between me and Miss Kay and the Great Nana. Nana's I said, we're going to build a statue in her honor at the end of this.
00:02:28
Speaker 5: She is tremendous, capable of and willing and capable of. She's amazing.
00:02:33
Speaker 6: Yeah, the Great Nana. Yeah, you're one of the few who have been in the come to the abode. You've met young Luca, had a great hangout.
00:02:41
Speaker 5: Yeah, it was great.
00:02:42
Speaker 6: Ready, I can see you right for your trips and.
00:02:46
Speaker 5: Legendary. They were both great already was locked in.
00:02:50
Speaker 4: So into it, both of them so into it. Yeah, it'some.
00:02:54
Speaker 5: Yeah. So it's been Uh, it's been wild.
00:02:56
Speaker 6: I mean, like I think that what I've noticed is being fifteen years removed from the last time I had a newborn.
00:03:05
Speaker 4: You block a lot of.
00:03:06
Speaker 6: This stuff out because yeah, you do, otherwise you're like, I'm not, there's no way.
00:03:12
Speaker 4: I think it's part of like human nature. You lock it out.
00:03:14
Speaker 6: Like a lot of women say they go through childbirth and they like block out what the experience is like because that might make them, you know, hesitant to do it again per se. Yeah, but he's been as good as can be. That's what's so funny. Like I think he's been I would give him an a plus plus. It's still just hard. It's just the reality of the u of the situation. But he's been awesome. And last night at Great Night, nan as I said, has been incredibly helpful.
00:03:36
Speaker 5: She's helping.
00:03:37
Speaker 6: She's up anyway. I mean she wakes up at four in the morning every day, which is that's just her, Like.
00:03:41
Speaker 2: How did I not know this until now? Like, that's my normal body is to get up at four or five in the morning. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that early once you go to bed like eight. Oh, so that's she didn't she do that.
00:03:53
Speaker 6: She did graveyard ship for a long time. But she she's up early, her natural rhyth. I mean by the time most people are like dusting the cobwebs off. I think she's meditated. She swam and she's gone to church and maybe running errand.
00:04:08
Speaker 5: And you're like, but it's only nine o'clock, what do you mean getting lot?
00:04:12
Speaker 6: So she's so she has the last few days and this is the greatest offer ever. So they say it takes a village, but she is so he's kind of on, like it depends some nights. Two nights ago not good to the last three night's been really good. Two nights ago not not good. But she'll do She'll come over at like five five point fifteen and yeah at like five thirty six am.
00:04:36
Speaker 4: Feeding, which is amazing. Yeah, because I was.
00:04:40
Speaker 6: Doing kind of like the eight eleven Taylo do the two and then I'd hit the five again, and that's like that's tough.
00:04:48
Speaker 5: Because like it's like you sleep the room, no, because you hear everything.
00:04:52
Speaker 4: I've done pretty good at it. She'll be like he's crying.
00:04:55
Speaker 6: Like that's all right, he's fine'll be all right, fine, Yeah, this new is gonna rock him. And now we're letting the snow do its thing. It's pretty wild. It's wild to watch it happened.
00:05:04
Speaker 4: But it works. It works. Yeah, So it goes like it like rocks.
00:05:09
Speaker 6: Them, like if this was if this was the baby in there, this new they get like clipped in and this new baseline just kind of goes like this, yeah, back and forth. But then when they start fussing a little bit, like somehow it knows like.
00:05:21
Speaker 5: The things like the smartest I don't even Yeah, yeah.
00:05:24
Speaker 6: Then it'll go like a little faster, and then it goes like on two, it's like and they play all this like ambient noise or whatever, and like it kind of startles them and it sure enough.
00:05:34
Speaker 5: It puts them back to bed. That's awesome.
00:05:36
Speaker 4: But then there's like level three and four, which we cap it where like we'll.
00:05:39
Speaker 5: Get there yet.
00:05:40
Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't understand anybody gets there, So dude, I throw them out. It's gonna take off from the ground like a helicopter.
00:05:48
Speaker 2: I remember thinking, and and you'll you now this is all coming back to you. But I remember thinking, like I probably didn't sleep well for six years because we had the boys every two years. Yeah, so like it really was from the time that NBC was born until Bootsy was probably about eighteen. I mean, they sleep through the night by six months or whatever, so at that point it's okay, but you're pretty I was pretty much tired. Amy and I were pretty much tired five for like six and a half years. Pretty much always pretty tired. Is kind of the way that it worked out. And then it so you'll have that, but he'll be getting through the night and then you're gonna you'll be tired, but not like this, Like this is a different level.
00:06:23
Speaker 6: Well, Nana doing this, Nana being the hero that she is that helps, Yeah, and like she loves it.
00:06:28
Speaker 4: It's a joy for her too.
00:06:30
Speaker 6: I've been setting around all these great she's like so thankful that she gets to do this, and.
00:06:33
Speaker 5: We're like, we're thankful.
00:06:36
Speaker 6: It's a win win when everybody's winning, and it's perfect for her too.
00:06:39
Speaker 4: Where's the g man, please?
00:06:41
Speaker 5: You're saying too much, too much too much, Winny.
00:06:44
Speaker 2: But it's perfect for her too, because if that works with her clock, then she's she's loved right in there and it's good.
00:06:49
Speaker 5: That's nice.
00:06:50
Speaker 6: Like right now, like the best thing they do right now is like you know, Luca, what he looks at you.
00:06:56
Speaker 5: Yeah, You're like, all right, it's a lot of work and sleeplessness for very little reward. Yeah.
00:07:01
Speaker 2: There, we're not They're coming, it's coming, it's coming. But you're not getting a hug back. You're not getting a giggle yet, you're not getting you're getting that'll come the giggles.
00:07:08
Speaker 4: Sometimes he's a little.
00:07:09
Speaker 5: He's like yeah, yeah, they're like, oh yeah, like that's the biggest thing.
00:07:13
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, because even though I mean, I know he knows who we are, but like sometimes when you look see so I've had him watch and we watch when I do like the morning feedings with him. We've been watching Gummy Bears, which I love that show. And then right now we're almost done with a New Hope, Star Wars.
00:07:30
Speaker 5: Oh there you go for Star Wars. Move got to admit, when's the last time you saw it.
00:07:36
Speaker 4: All the way through like a New Hope? Probably a few years.
00:07:39
Speaker 2: It takes a long time to get moving. We're in that desert a long time.
00:07:43
Speaker 6: It does, but like yes, like as we are Uncle Owen, and.
00:07:47
Speaker 2: It's all like it comes out swinging, but it comes out hot, hot, and then it settles down for probably thirty five minutes, and then it's back.
00:07:55
Speaker 5: Again as soon as Solo gets as soon.
00:07:56
Speaker 6: As all we get to the bar and we meet Cantina, then we're yeah, then we're rolling again. What I don't like is a version that's on Disney Plus is the one where they like added it, like they added in that Java scene outside the Millennium Falcon where he's like clearly like a computer slug.
00:08:16
Speaker 4: He's not even that big.
00:08:17
Speaker 5: No, I don't know why they and.
00:08:18
Speaker 6: They added and they added when they're looking for the pod with the droids, they added those like weird creatures.
00:08:24
Speaker 5: That a couple of Stormtroopers are riding on.
00:08:26
Speaker 2: I don't know why they needed to add the Java scene. Like in watching Jedi, it's not like I needed the point of reference of seeing Jaba.
00:08:33
Speaker 4: You knew it from gro Do or whatever.
00:08:35
Speaker 6: It was like, it's fine, Jaba you owed you knew who he owed Jaba the money?
00:08:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, you knw who he was. I didn't need to see him.
00:08:42
Speaker 6: Well, and Jaba was there and he had Boba fat was There were like eight different bounty hunters there.
00:08:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, and they're like, they're gonna let him walk.
00:08:49
Speaker 5: He's like, yeah, sure, go ahead, go ahead.
00:08:52
Speaker 6: So well, I don't know, but it's been it's that that part of it has been very fun.
00:08:57
Speaker 5: Well that's good.
00:08:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's good.
00:08:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's all of that stuff will be all of that's He's a beautiful boy and very very exciting.
00:09:04
Speaker 5: What's now?
00:09:05
Speaker 4: You got him? Now he's fitted up. Look at this from Uncle.
00:09:08
Speaker 2: Bo Oh yeah yeah, I mean well I thought, there you go, he's ready, he's got his flight suit.
00:09:17
Speaker 5: Professional almost could.
00:09:21
Speaker 2: We My wife, My wife actually saw it in the the bookstore in Annapolis at the Naval Academy and and she goes.
00:09:30
Speaker 5: She just held it up and she goes for Luca.
00:09:32
Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, yes, absolutely, So I hope, I said, I hope we timed. It'd be a perfect Halloween first Halloween costume. It's also a nice little sleeper, but it would be a lovely Halloween.
00:09:46
Speaker 5: Twelve. So it could be be right around there, right around him. It could be good. So yeah, so yeah, we did. I did.
00:09:55
Speaker 2: I think I don't imagine anyone else on the planet has ever attempted what we did.
00:10:00
Speaker 6: I can't wait to hear about all your travails. It's all seemed pretty great, by the way.
00:10:03
Speaker 2: A lot of it was really nothing there was And I know, I got a text last night sanity Happens Threes texted me, he goes, are you still in Idaho? And I said, I go know why and he sent me the screen if you didn't, just to know what we're talking about.
00:10:19
Speaker 5: So yesterday, the West.
00:10:23
Speaker 2: The preamble to this is the West is constantly in threat of fire because it is so dry and because it's so beautiful, but it's a tinderbox, quite literally, and so if these forest fires start up, they are damn near impossible to stop.
00:10:40
Speaker 6: So you saw this what happens in Canada every year.
00:10:43
Speaker 2: Now, Yeah, and those are obviously just north of where we were. But I mean, it's just it's just my brother said this like ten years ago. He said, Montana is gonna get the point where there is fall, winter, spring, and fire season. Like that's kind of what where you're at. And so some just worst human ever, just the most tainous thing. Started a forest fire in Cord Lane, which is where we were last week until Wednesday, started a forest firing quart Lane, and then which is this gorgeous little lake town. It is just stunning, and started a fire. And then when I mean all firefighters are the bravest, best of us, right, first responders, all of that, and they charged in to turn out the put out the fire, and he opened fire. He was a sniper, and he killed two firemen and injured a bunch more.
00:11:30
Speaker 4: Have they got him yet?
00:11:31
Speaker 5: I think they did, right? Is that right? Giving I believe it was a self inflicted, self inflicted situation.
00:11:37
Speaker 2: Yeah, because they said they found a man down with a rifle or something late yesterday.
00:11:42
Speaker 5: They they lifted the shelter in place, and.
00:11:46
Speaker 2: I mean, it's it is the most I would I would say, like, well, you live Sagarn Falls, so it's it would. Quarter Lane is like Chagrin Falls if it were in the middle of the rocky mountains and had a massive, gorgeous freshwater lake, just massive.
00:12:03
Speaker 4: Have you been like the Traverse I've not.
00:12:06
Speaker 5: I've not.
00:12:08
Speaker 6: In my mind, I wonder if it's like that, like that's Traverse City is kind of like the but.
00:12:12
Speaker 2: Up, it's just perfect. It's kind of everything you'd want. I mean, just stunning and famous. Holt Yeah, no, big deal. Yeah we did so anyway that yes, that happened yesterday and then so anyway we but this all starts back on Friday, a week ago. Friday, we drove to Annapolis.
00:12:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, five plus in the car.
00:12:33
Speaker 2: Five plus in the cars. We drove to Annapolis, played lacrosse, did the Naval Academy. UH the great UH former undersecretary, the under mister Bodley.
00:12:42
Speaker 5: Had arranged for a tour. So we did what you do to me.
00:12:45
Speaker 2: Had had a lovely midshipman who gave us a tour. Sam he's great from Shaker. He gave us a tour. It was really really cool. We did have a near catastrophe right away though, because my wife went to go like, you know, because it's like TSA if you've not been, if you go on something like that, you have to have identification. So my wife handed her the license and the woman who is the main guard there said where's.
00:13:10
Speaker 5: Your real ID? And my wife said real I D I.
00:13:13
Speaker 2: Don't this is my real ID, And they're like no, no, no, you need the real ID. To get on the Naval Academy.
00:13:19
Speaker 6: Oh and I didn't know that to get on the Naval Academy.
00:13:22
Speaker 4: Yeah, how did she fly?
00:13:25
Speaker 5: Well?
00:13:25
Speaker 4: We passports passports.
00:13:27
Speaker 5: Yeah, so we took passports. Yeah, but you had driven there. I'd driven there and we did not have passports.
00:13:32
Speaker 2: Yeah, because why would I need a passport. I had no clue that it was like that. And the last time I was on the Naval Academy, now they made you. They don't let you park on academy. You have to park in Annapolis and then walk in. The last time I was there was in twenty twelve, and we could park on campus like we parked, we drove through a security check, and then we parked on campus. That was in twenty twelve, and so that I didn't foresee any of this, But lucky, luckily, Sam being a bit ship and he was able to walk us in under his so it was fine. We ended up doing it, but it was kind of oh wow, that's an attention getter, like that would sure suck if we couldn't have been able to do that, but we did, so that was great. Annapolis is just spectacular. It's kind of everything you'd ever wanted. To be played lacrosse.
00:14:16
Speaker 5: We had.
00:14:17
Speaker 2: It was ninety eight degrees and humidity, and we played from eight o'clock in the morning. Bootsy and Beamsy started at eight am. NBC's last game was at six thirty, so I was outside all day. Nine games and then we played games early Sunday morning and then drove home and then we flew to Spokane, Washington Monday, So like four thirty am, we flew to Spokane, Washington, rented a car, drove to quarter Lane, which is forty minutes.
00:14:45
Speaker 5: So we were and you were able to get from here Spokane here through Minni Appnue.
00:14:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, so it was really it was out two and a half, two and a half easy flight go to quarter Lane. I was in Quarterlane when I was a kid, but I haven't had I didn't remember it well. But it's quite honestly perfect, kind of everything you'd ever want, like a mountain town. And it's the home of the Floating Green is at the quarter Lane Resort, which is where we stayed, and so we were there by one o'clock, blown away by how great it was. Rented upontoon boat the summer perfect, It's seventy six, no humidity, all sun, no clouds, rented a pontoon boat, buzzed around the lake's huge. No, we didn't have time because remember we were double booked. We were supposed to be there on Saturday, and then the lacrosse thing got switched and so now all of a sudden we lost two days of the trip. I got it, so we were only over to be there two nights. We just took the pontoon out. There's nobody on the lake. Eight we were on there by eight twenty in the morning Tuesday. Took the pontoon out, boys jumped in the water, kind of cruised around. There's incredible club so their courses there, and there's another one called Gaza Ranch which is baller crazy across the lake. That was nuts. So we did that and then me and the two oldest played.
00:16:00
Speaker 4: The course where it was bootsi.
00:16:02
Speaker 2: So he didn't have the stomach for it. Really, he just didn't know if he wanted to play eighteen, so you couldn't play nine. He's nine, so it's on the edge.
00:16:11
Speaker 4: So it was a bootsi, a self removal.
00:16:13
Speaker 2: Yeah, he didn't want to do it. I was more than willing. I mean I had to pay for the force him anyway, So it didn't matter whether he played or not. But they wouldn't let you play nine. Either had to play eighteen or that was it. So him and him and my wife bought a cabana thing and they hung at the pool and jumped in the lake and had snacks.
00:16:34
Speaker 5: So it was a win.
00:16:35
Speaker 2: So the course is incredible. It's probably the best resort that he would thrive there. That guy would thrive there right there. Probably the best resort course I've played, really truly.
00:16:47
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:16:47
Speaker 2: It was better than Royal Blue and the Bahamas, better than Wile and Maui. I mean, just nothing, not a speck out of place, no bunker rakes anywhere. Almost like private, really elite private club is what it played like. Yeah, and so we played it all these cool mountain holes and all this stuff, and me and the boys played it. And so you get to the island green, which is kind of the focal point of the whole thing, and.
00:17:11
Speaker 4: It's how far was that playing?
00:17:13
Speaker 5: For?
00:17:13
Speaker 3: Uh?
00:17:13
Speaker 2: Well, we played we played second to the front tips to keep it moving. So I think we were like one fourteen Oh okay, yeah, so but even the even like the the member and then the tips, I think the member was one twenty eight and the tips were maybe one thirty eight one forty.
00:17:31
Speaker 4: Okay, So it's not right, no, no, no.
00:17:32
Speaker 5: It's not like or anything like that. No, it's just a wedge, that's it. But it's it's pretty remarkable.
00:17:40
Speaker 2: So the driving range, you hit into the lake on the driving range, that's how you do that. So you just hit into the lake the driving range.
00:17:46
Speaker 6: Are they like floating greens out there or it's just kind of like No, they.
00:17:48
Speaker 2: Have floating flags flags, so you try to hit to the flags and then they have a net under it to catch them. But obviously some just get into the lake. And then you see like the pools how the current takes so you'd see like pools of ball, like thousand, tens of thousands of balls like in these giant pools underneath the lake, which was cool. So you get to the floating green and it's it's just an ingenius. This Haganung guy who built it, was so genius to take something like that sets it apart, and he fought for it like crazy, and it's.
00:18:21
Speaker 5: A true floating green. You have to take a boat over.
00:18:25
Speaker 4: You boat, you boat over.
00:18:26
Speaker 2: It's a beautiful little wooden boat that you all get in and you go over and then you play your shots. And so what the way that usually happens to kind of keep pace of play is the group ahead of you hits on as they're boating over, you hit on, So you have like a couple of minute window to hit on. Now, we didn't have. We had to rent clubs, We had to buy balls because I didn't we didn't pack any of that stuff. Yeah, so I was worried. I'm like, God, are all of these is gonna look? Are they in the same spot we are where they bought all their balls, Like, who are you making sure you hit the right ones?
00:18:56
Speaker 5: But all three of us.
00:18:57
Speaker 2: Got it on on our first shot and I ended up making par And so they can be a certificate for making part.
00:19:04
Speaker 6: They can like move it too, right, can't they like it? They like, I can take it way out, they can take it in. Yeah, they can move it. They definitely can. It's all hooked up. They actually brought it in. My Caddy was saying a couple of years ago.
00:19:17
Speaker 2: They brought it like all the way in and they had to like re sought it because of so much sand from the traps had landed on the green. Oh that they had to clean all of that out and kind of restart it. But it's a brilliant piece of marketing. It's a really cool hole.
00:19:31
Speaker 4: And you got a certificate.
00:19:32
Speaker 5: I did when I suck, but I did.
00:19:36
Speaker 2: And I tell you though, like in my Caddy said this, he said, you know a lot of people, especially because everybody goes there wants to play, and a lot of them are really bad. Like I'm bad, but there's people who are terrible. Yeah, and he's like, most people just stop at fourteen, like they just call it a day at that point. They don't play the last few holes because all they want to do is play fourteen and then be done.
00:19:54
Speaker 5: That's Island Green. It's fourteenth. Yeah interesting. Yeah. Yeah.
00:19:57
Speaker 2: So and then Amian boots you get to come out on the boat, take pictures and all of that. So that was It was really cool and I highly recommend that area. Yeah, and then we drove over to Montana from there. I don't know if it's just I'm just not used to it, but like when you are driving over lookout Pass and you're crossing into Montana from Idaho and you're literally driving over the rocky mountains and you see a speed sign for speed saying eighty miles an hour, and you realize what that means is that Montana's are going eighty nine. Oh h at least it is minimum eighty nine. It is a borderline insane choice. I mean, it just is like people are just they should not be. It's an interstate. It's four lanes, right, but it's still like it is and it is to go that.
00:20:43
Speaker 5: Fast is like the standard is craziness.
00:20:46
Speaker 2: Like I just the whole time I'm thinking about like, so you drive like seventy seven by Brexville and Broadview Heights and it's fifty five or whatever it is, and I'm driving over the Rockies and it's eighty How do these two things equate?
00:20:57
Speaker 5: And there's a ton of traffic. Yeah, it's not like it's like there's no traffic there. It's summer.
00:21:01
Speaker 4: Yeah, the roads are packed.
00:21:03
Speaker 2: I mean there's it's it's full traffic situation. If there's an accident, it's got to be backed up forever. How the heck do you get emergency crews up to these places on the sides of mountains.
00:21:12
Speaker 5: It's nuts. So that was crazy.
00:21:16
Speaker 2: We Uh, then we went to my dad's after that, and we did a couple of nights there soft family, which was cool. I this, I'll this was this closest I've ever been to death in my life though happened at my dad's place. So he's getting a little older and he's got three really great horses that the boys ride that don't buck, don't spook, don't do anything. And he had me on a different one. So Peyden, despite only riding like once a year, he rides his own horse. Parker rides his own horse and then boots. He rides a horse, but I trail him. So I have him on a on a halter, okay. And I get on this horse I've never been on before, and I can tell right away she's not.
00:21:57
Speaker 5: Not up for it.
00:21:57
Speaker 2: It wasn't that now, and I've ridden a lot, so I can I know when things are not going. I'm like, and I got on her and she was kind of bouncy a little bit, and then as I sat down and started to walk, she started to buck, like legitimate like rodeo buck.
00:22:12
Speaker 5: Okay, so she.
00:22:13
Speaker 2: Jumped twice and I held on and then she kind of settled, but then she panicked and she started backing up, and she backed up.
00:22:23
Speaker 5: I'll pull it up. She backed up right.
00:22:28
Speaker 2: I took a picture because it was just so insane.
00:22:33
Speaker 5: So she backed up right up into.
00:22:35
Speaker 2: That that fence, into that fence with that track tractor. So she backed up into it and hit it. And when she backed up into it and hit it, and I'm still riding at this point, she backed up into it and hit it and started to fall back. Now she falls all the way back. I'm dead because it's it's a tractor, it's me and a horse, and I don't win there. That's a game, set match. And so she kind of gathers herself and just kind of falls on her side against the tractor and the gate. Now, because I have ridden a lot, I was quick enough to get my leg out, so I got my leg out and I was able to get my leg out of the stirrup and hopped off as she was falling. I was able to get it all out and I just got away. At that point, she really struggled to get back up. Inevitably, she was fine. She got back to her feet and she was fine. But you just kind of have to let him do it at that point. But it was like that from game set match, and so now was your dad there he was, but he was saddling another hor he was getting his horse going on the other side. Beamsy witnessed it firsthand and he was, you know, shook, really shook. He's like, I'm done, get me off this thing now, yeah, boots.
00:23:50
Speaker 5: He didn't see all of it. NBC saw little of it.
00:23:54
Speaker 2: Not all of it, though, but my wife saw all of it, and I'm thinking, don't you forget still a cowboy.
00:23:59
Speaker 3: Still got it, but still got it, still there, honey, still got it all good.
00:24:04
Speaker 2: It was so close. Yeah, I was terrifying. And then we went and rode after that. When put that horse away, I put that, I put the saddle it was on that one, on another one, and then we all went and we rode after. It was crazy in retrospect, crazy, but no, it was great. My dad bought a buggy for some reason, like a carriage, like if you were to take like missus Lincoln to the Ford Theater carriage.
00:24:30
Speaker 5: Yeah, you bought one.
00:24:31
Speaker 2: I don't know something to do. He came, He's like, hey, you want to see this, like you want to see something?
00:24:36
Speaker 5: Okay, So we go down.
00:24:37
Speaker 2: He's what are we gonna do with this, I'm gonna go for We're gonna go for a ride, all right, So we come through the hassle.
00:24:43
Speaker 5: Of putting all the things.
00:24:43
Speaker 4: It's like what they would go into town and then.
00:24:47
Speaker 3: Was this show nineteen twenty three behind.
00:24:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, like that or like eighteen eighty three, like a like a true wooden carriage buggy.
00:24:57
Speaker 5: You're in it and he's he's taken us around.
00:25:00
Speaker 2: Yeah, he's like, oh yeah, I got a one horse open, one horse open sleigh too. Okay, God bless you. My thinking is he's seven, almost seventy seven. I think he's hedging for when he can't ride so that he can still do these things. That's my guess is how it's working.
00:25:17
Speaker 5: That'll be great. Though I'm getting buggied around everywhere. It's a scene. We all did it. It was. It was a scene to say the least. So no, it was a great trip. All the flights are.
00:25:26
Speaker 2: Incredible, and and we did it all in It's seven days, so it's nuts.
00:25:33
Speaker 5: Lots going on. Awesome.
00:25:34
Speaker 6: Did the kids have a good time with everything that they did? They have it was like their favorite.
00:25:38
Speaker 2: Well so oldest was the golf. Peyton's big into golf. R NBC's big into golf right now, and so yeah, keep going great. He's like, I want to play more and more, Like can we go back to Courtlaane.
00:25:49
Speaker 5: I want to play. I want to play. And that course is fun.
00:25:53
Speaker 4: It's really it's gorgeous.
00:25:54
Speaker 2: It's stunning, and it's really not just that whole like the whole thing's like through the mountains, big carry.
00:26:00
Speaker 5: It's just cool. It's just a really really cool course. Yeah.
00:26:04
Speaker 2: So he loved that beams, he loved the pontoons, then boots, he loved the riding. So he did a little bit of everything, went back to the main Ponderosa and showed him all of that.
00:26:13
Speaker 5: And yeah, so it was good. This was supposed to be a slow day in the National Football.
00:26:18
Speaker 4: League not Yeah, I don't remember anything like this at all.
00:26:22
Speaker 2: No, no, you about middle of the morning. The Pittsburgh Steelers speaking of they kind of chose violence, like they just they went as all in as can be. So Mika Fitzpatrick goes to Miami, Jalen Ramsey comes back, and then they acquired John new Smith as well for a pick swap of a late pick going forward. Whatever you think of the risk of all of this. They're better than they were a year ago, and they won ten games.
00:26:54
Speaker 4: They're definitely better.
00:26:56
Speaker 6: But it's interesting you look at so they've added Ramsey, they've added John Newsmith, they've lost Mica, they've lost Pickens.
00:27:06
Speaker 5: They've had Metcalf, they added Aaron Rodgers. Yep.
00:27:11
Speaker 6: They've had Dari Slay right they did yep. So they're old, they are older, yep.
00:27:16
Speaker 5: Which is interesting.
00:27:17
Speaker 4: It feels what's the.
00:27:18
Speaker 2: Difference between Mike and Ramsey age wise? It can't be much. Mica and Ramsey year two.
00:27:25
Speaker 5: Let's see. I think it's wild that Ramsey's thirty. I think it's wild that. Do you think they're gonna have him play safety?
00:27:32
Speaker 6: They said slot corner, outside corner and some safety.
00:27:35
Speaker 5: Yeah. Minco's twenty eight, so so you just two years. Yeah, and then our guy Thornhill's over there. Thorn Hill's over there, and then they'll have Sleigh and Jewelry Porty Porter Junior is the outside corners.
00:27:47
Speaker 6: So Ramsey was picked in the sixteen draft. Minco's picked in the eighteen draft.
00:27:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, he'll turn thirty one in October. Let's see, Mika turns twenty nine.
00:27:58
Speaker 6: Mika turns twenty nine in November. So yeah, two years over years. It's just interesting. Kind of feels to me, and I said this in that group chat we are on, but it feels to me kind of like what the Eagles did that year they put together that dream team and that.
00:28:16
Speaker 5: With Michael Vick and all that. Yeah.
00:28:19
Speaker 2: Yeah, I who knows if it'll work. It A lot of it will be contingent on Rogers, I do think with the John who Smith trade, though now I can very clearly see what they're going to be offensively, which is gonna which is also all the more weird that that Rogers wasn't there for more of Mini camp because or more of the off season, because they're clearly going to run a lot of too tight yeah and friar movement.
00:28:42
Speaker 5: You have a back and then have Metcalf and whoever else.
00:28:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, emerges Robert Woods or whoever on the outs or whoever it could be missions out there.
00:28:52
Speaker 5: Yeah, so maybe that's but that's it.
00:28:54
Speaker 2: They're gonna run the two backs with Warren, and they're gonna run Caleb Johnson, who's a stud I think he's going to be really good for that them, and they're gonna run play action off of that in wide zone and and that's the plan. And then defensively, that's a that's that's a that's a group.
00:29:09
Speaker 5: It's a good looking group.
00:29:11
Speaker 4: It's old, but yes it is.
00:29:13
Speaker 6: But they're you know, like Sleigh Ramsey and Joey Porter Junior is pretty good cornerback trio.
00:29:19
Speaker 2: That's pretty good right there. Yeah, and they slid Patrick Queen and they'll.
00:29:22
Speaker 5: Get things and Kay Smith and km Hayward.
00:29:25
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's on on paper. Do you have them wear in the AFC North on paper?
00:29:35
Speaker 4: Still probably third?
00:29:37
Speaker 2: See, I think they're better than Cincinnati on paper.
00:29:39
Speaker 4: Maybe they are, but Joe Burrow is Joe Burrow.
00:29:41
Speaker 2: He is, and they'll you know, they're gonna have to outscore. Yeah, but I think they're right. They're not as dangerous since they're still not first. No, but if if they're they got closer.
00:29:55
Speaker 4: They're or this is going to be a complete disaster.
00:29:59
Speaker 5: It could be and complete disaster.
00:30:01
Speaker 2: Yeah, but even the one thing about they don't there's no precedent for complete disaster for them.
00:30:06
Speaker 4: No, which is why this would be never done it. But they've also never done this.
00:30:09
Speaker 3: No.
00:30:10
Speaker 5: Brooke prior talked about that.
00:30:11
Speaker 2: I saw it on her Twitter, she was like, this is a very Unsteelers off season for sure.
00:30:15
Speaker 6: Yeah, so this is to me, it's like it almost feels like this is a last hurrah. You know, you only have Rogers for one year. Like people in Pittsburgh are already tired to Tomlin, which is nuts. The guy's never had a losing season. Yeah, but they have not won a playoff game since we looked it up like SI.
00:30:31
Speaker 4: Sixteen, I think, yeah, I.
00:30:33
Speaker 6: Think it's gonna blow up, and I think they're resetting after the season.
00:30:38
Speaker 2: Either way, they probably are win or lose, whether they sure, that's just like what would be defining success for them at this point with all in like, you have to win a playoff game minimum, you're not not a super Bowl team. I don't think with what aces, So you have to think that they put I'm sure they think that we did that thing. You know, a couple of years ago we said, you walk into refacility in the in the division and everybody thinks they're a super Bowl team. I me when we acquired Sean and and Paspert at that point, like we would have everyone would have said, hey, yeah, we feel like we're a super Bowl team and that's probably their thought is if you walk into the building, you can say, hey we got Rogers, we had at Ramsey, we got Metcalf. It's a it's a one shot at it. And everybody over there has been complaining about Tomlin and being in the middle by their definition in the middle for so long.
00:31:28
Speaker 5: Now.
00:31:28
Speaker 2: If this doesn't work, or even if it does, you can pivot to a reset pretty easily.
00:31:32
Speaker 6: Problem is if it has to go, if when you're pivoting to a total reset, you need to kind of crash spectacularly.
00:31:41
Speaker 4: I don't think they're going to do that unless it just becomes it.
00:31:46
Speaker 2: But it could be a it could be a multi year rebuild at that point. Yeah, you know where it's where it takes a couple of years to get kind of back organized. But either way, our division, which was already brutal, got tougher. There's more talent and division now than there was yesterday.
00:32:02
Speaker 4: No doubts.
00:32:03

00:34:08
Speaker 2: Smart, good joby to you give me? What do you think the plan will be when we get into this thing? My friend, you can use that one.
00:34:19
Speaker 5: That's right behind it's right behind yours.
00:34:23
Speaker 4: How about it? Well, I was over there. I just had to keep your keep a seat.
00:34:27
Speaker 5: Warm when I was safe safe.
00:34:31
Speaker 4: I don't know.
00:34:31
Speaker 5: I really think it's it's gonna be fascinating.
00:34:34
Speaker 4: I think that.
00:34:37
Speaker 6: You need to decide, Okay, who do you think are realistic starters for a week one? And I think it's kind of okay if one of the rookies is just that good, it is okay. But I think it's also okay to go into it with the mindset, at least initially, that you're not putting a rookie into that murderer's row.
00:34:57
Speaker 5: No. I mean we've we've talked about that throughout.
00:35:00
Speaker 2: They force themselves into de Yeah, like Russ Wilson with Seattle and you just you're just better than everybody else. But it based on what we saw in mini camp, it would take a lot to get there, and I just don't know how they're going to get enough opportunity to prove that with splitting the reps up.
00:35:17
Speaker 6: So I think that what we're not privy to that they might be privy to is we've had so much debate. You know, do you keep four quarterbacks or is it just three? I've said all along, I think it's going to be three. So I think you have this is I'm going to say it from my perspective, okay, because I don't again don't know. I think that right now you're getting Kenny Pickett ready to start Week one, and you should give him the reps that indicate that early on, if he falls flat on his face, you can press the eject button and then you put Flacco right into that role. But I think that's to me, that's where it is. And then you know, you have Gabriel and Sanders having kind of their own competition to see who will be the backup going into the season, because I don't think I think you're keeping one of Picket and Flacco. And my guess is it would be Picket just because you got to look at the big picture here.
00:36:09
Speaker 4: You said, and I look, could the Browns go win Zuper Bowls year? Absolutely?
00:36:14
Speaker 5: Is it likely?
00:36:15
Speaker 6: You know from Vegas standpoint, not least likely in our division? Right, And that's you know, that's just kind of where we are. So let's look at like the outcomes. So Kenny Pickett starts for you, and Kenny Pickett is really good, good enough that you would consider him your starter going into the next season, or that another franchise in the National Football League would consider him their starter going in the next season. So that's outcome one with Kenny Pickett. That means that either A, maybe you have your quarterback.
00:36:57
Speaker 5: Yep.
00:36:58
Speaker 4: Now the question is can you afford him?
00:37:01
Speaker 6: Or b that he goes somewhere and signs will call it twenty five to thirty million dollar a year deal, the Donald deal something like that, or even what Daniel Jones end up signing for.
00:37:12
Speaker 2: I don't remember that one. I don't remember what Jones ended up signing for. I know Donald was three for one hundred or thereabout.
00:37:19
Speaker 4: Yeah, so or even say twenty a year like justin Fields.
00:37:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, two for forty Yeah in that range.
00:37:27
Speaker 5: Jones one year, fourteen millions.
00:37:29
Speaker 6: Okay, so not Jones, so Fields low end, donald end. That gets you unless you go out and sign a twenty million dollars or thirty million dollars a year free.
00:37:39
Speaker 4: Agent, which not like the zone hit the market. No, that means Kenny Pickett.
00:37:44
Speaker 6: Is worth a third round pick to your organization because he would be a compensatory third pick leaving.
00:37:51
Speaker 4: Joe Flacco.
00:37:52
Speaker 6: Now he doesn't play well, You're going to see Gabriel and Sanders at some point, and then that goes into with Gabriel Sanders, can you be the guy so that we do not have to use one or both of our first round picks next year on a quarterback?
00:38:07
Speaker 2: Bo Do you think they view because the way you set that up is you you kind of set it up as if Picket and Flacco were the same.
00:38:19
Speaker 5: In terms of like their standing.
00:38:21
Speaker 4: I don't think.
00:38:21
Speaker 2: Although they are, okay, but is it possible that they view Pickett as the similarly as the two rookies.
00:38:30
Speaker 4: Possible, that's possible.
00:38:32
Speaker 2: Where So in that scenario, you could start Flacco to start the year like obviously you want the You're exactly right. Obviously, the intent would be Kenny, given the first opportunity to go win the job, be the starter, competed story picks.
00:38:45
Speaker 6: And Kenny Pickett's not starting week one, I think he's out of the picture. Yeah, I think those are his only outcomes, either starting week one or he's.
00:38:55
Speaker 4: Not for us.
00:38:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, because at that point you'd rather have the young kids go give him a shot.
00:39:00
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:39:01
Speaker 6: My point was just that if him, if he's good, that's what you get. If he's not good, he's gone and you have Gabriel Sanders and they get the next shots. If he can, he Pickett, let's say, falls on his face and Flacco starts week one.
00:39:12
Speaker 4: If Flaco's really.
00:39:13
Speaker 6: Good again, the likelihood that we get into the playoffs. I think it's a very tough road, as we've outlined, but that would be wonderful. But from twenty six and beyond does nothing for you. Joe Flacco's in his forties. No, he has not been a consistent, winning starting quarterback since the year twenty seventeen, with the lone exception of the season with US, right, So that does nothing for you. Nobody's gonna pay him big bucks. You're not getting any competiti. There's just no That's why I always that's why I think Joe Flacco, if you're looking at the big picture, is the kind of break glass in case of emercy. Now, if the quarterback room had been what they thought it was going to be when they signed him, which was Pickett, Flacco and Dylan Gabriel, that's your three quarterbacks. Flat Goos the mentor. He plays when he needs to play, and he's in there, not that he's in there two mentor, but he is somebody that is a great Just watch him, Osmosis Jones, watch him and.
00:40:06
Speaker 5: Learn from what you've got going on there.
00:40:08
Speaker 6: Now that you've got Picket, Flacco, Gabriel and Sanders again, I think you've challenged Shador. I think that nobody would disagree with the statement that Shadoor Sanders is regarded as the more talented of the two rookie quarterbacks. Yeah, nobody. Dylan Gabriel impressive. I know Coach loves him, I know the Browns love him. I know that he is almost kind of a veteran. I still look at him and say, a great outcome for him is.
00:40:34
Speaker 5: Being Colt McCoy.
00:40:35
Speaker 6: Case Keenum playing in the league for a decade, being a backup, starting when you need to, probably having a couple seasons where you are a starter and do well all of that. Now, maybe he's better than that. Maybe yeah, maybe he's Russ Wilson. Maybe he is, and in that case, boom, he could be your answer and then Shador. I think that Flacco you don't need to give a lot of reps to, and I think we kind of saw that in Mini camp and the OTAs until you need to. Unless you say, Kenny Pickett's not the guy. We're not starting these rookies. Joe Flacker, you're the starter. Then you get them all the reps he needs, and I think he'll be a red guy. Came off his couch and went four and one. Yes, he doesn't need a long ramp. No, So I think you're gonna prepare great in mini camp with next to no work. He just threw, He just he just get up and throw the ball six and he throws a beautiful ball.
00:41:19
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:41:20
Speaker 4: So I think it's gonna be Picket being groomed to be the starter.
00:41:25
Speaker 6: I think Gabriel is going to get a lot of work, and I'd like to see Shador's work go up in high leverage situations and see if he can handle it.
00:41:32
Speaker 4: Because of how talented the guy is.
00:41:34
Speaker 5: I asked Coach Bright.
00:41:37
Speaker 2: He was right at the end of mini camp. He came on when you were with UH with Little Luca, and I asked him. I asked him like, do you have I wasn't expecting him to give me the answer, but in your head, when do you have do you know when this needs to start to be pared down? And they do have an answer for that. But the reality is is that you they they do have to they have predisposed notion and they've had a lot of time with these rookies. They've had a lot of time with Kenny Pickett, They've had they know who Joe Flacco is. So you can't. You cannot get all of these guys reps, not the important reps.
00:42:13
Speaker 5: There's no way.
00:42:14
Speaker 2: And you have two joint practices to work through, the ones with Caroline and the ones with Philly. Those reps are the money reps. Now, one thing that's going to be really cool for Browns fansa is these preseason games are gonna be huge. Ye, these reps from these quarterbacks. The two rookies are going to be huge. Ye One thing that we saw in the in the lead up and all the way through mandatory Mini camp is that what Dylan was being asked to do was different than what Shuduur is being asked to do because of background, because of the way that Dylan has had to learn all of these offenses, has played so much football, where shud it's been a little bit different in terms of the way that their their quarterback gestation period has gone. But every rep is so critical and we saw that at rookie Mini camp. We saw it at Mini camp, just the way that they're flying these guys through because they have to yep, they have to figure out what they have in the three on quarterbacks and that's Pickett Gabriel Sanders. So I do think that that part's gonna be fascinating how quickly they pair that down.
00:43:14
Speaker 6: Yeah, and how things evolve and change. That's what I'm talking about. That is that's the change. That is what changes. That's going to give you the clues. But I think if you're taking it from an organizational standpoint and thinking through all the possible outcomes, it makes all the sense in the world to give Kenny Pickett that first shot, and if he doesn't, then you'd want to hope, hey, maybe Gabriel or Sanders is ready, and then if nobody is, then you give it to Joe Flacco, who's absolutely ready and a great guy and a great leader, all of those things.
00:43:45
Speaker 4: But because the fact that there's no.
00:43:50
Speaker 6: Other than being and this is a big payoff, don't get me wrong, and hopefully it would be the case, it just is not. You know, his year with us has been in a NOMA in his recent past, but there's no long term payoff from Joe Flacco being successful. There's short some of us being competitive this year. Yeah, you know, I think people need to ask themselves like, okay, like do we believe we can win a super Bowl?
00:44:19
Speaker 5: Or do we win a division?
00:44:22
Speaker 2: It's also I think at the other part of it. But in regard to the two like if it go to me, I think the first two weeks are most critical for Kenny Pickett, as you just laid that out. If Kenny Pickett is if, but if it doesn't go well and it's not clicking, then you pivot to Flacco because you could absolutely derail the career of a rookie by putting them in those first six games unless they are completely ready, totally ready, that is a brutal stretch to open the season. So to me, what I'll be watching the first two weeks of training camp is Kenny Pickett yep, And how does he look going about his busines?
00:45:00
Speaker 5: I know what Flacco is going to look like. I know it same we know it.
00:45:04
Speaker 2: So if Pickett's not elevating to that point and really shining and very clearly the best between not between him and Flacco, between him and the two young kids like far and away, if that's not happening, if the gap between him and the two young kids isn't big, then at that point you pivot to Flacco and you go.
00:45:24
Speaker 6: To the two kids at the backups and get them and then they all are going to play, and then they're gonna play this year.
00:45:31
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:45:31
Speaker 2: So I think that's as we sit here on the last day of June, that's that's probably kind of the way that they're going to approach it.
00:45:40
Speaker 4: Folks.
00:45:40
Speaker 2: I would look at it as you have three swings at a future quarterback. Yep, you got three swings at it. And this is when you consider, you know, kind of where we are at the quarterback decision. Because of the Watson trade and all of that, you got three swings at it. And my hunch is with this organization will do in the coming years is keep swinging until you got one. Yes, that's what you gotta do. You're gonna draft part you have one, you draft one every year.
00:46:07
Speaker 6: The part of this season to me, to me is finding out, first, can Kenny Pickett be that guy? Second, can Dylan Gabriel or Shud or Sanders be that guy? But both of the I think you need answers to both of these questions. I mean I could envision a season depending on how things go where I mean best case scenario, obviously you picket rolls and then like I said, he's either worth a third round pick to you or you're saying that we're gonna figure this out. He's gonna can we I think we'd be able. We'd have to find a way a way.
00:46:39
Speaker 5: But like, yeah, like if he has a Donald year like Donald, you can say.
00:46:42
Speaker 6: Look, you could sign a big extension where the initial kip hits are not great, you know, and make it work.
00:46:50
Speaker 4: But you know, he's still young, he still in his rookie contract in the first round. Six, yeah, fifteen, and ten.
00:46:54
Speaker 6: As a starter, I could see a scenario this year where you get like five plus games from Picket, Gabriel, and Sanders.
00:47:03
Speaker 4: Ultimately, when it all like shakes out.
00:47:05
Speaker 5: Let's say we're playing Madden. That's probably what I would do.
00:47:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure.
00:47:10
Speaker 5: I would split the season.
00:47:11
Speaker 2: I'd split the seventeen games three ways and see which one I played. Like if if humans weren't involved in emotions and physicality and all of that, well, if guys weren't hurt, and you could just say that would be the way, that's your litmus test fully healthy, these three tranches, how do these guys perform?
00:47:29
Speaker 5: Because really, and the goal is.
00:47:31
Speaker 6: If you go first, make it so that they don't sure you can't go to him to the next trench. And if you go second, make sure that they don't can't go to the third guy, and then that helps you get an answer. But that's to me, that's that's what it is. And then from the preseason standpoint, I definitely don't need to see all four of them.
00:47:49
Speaker 5: I don't need to see Joe do anything.
00:47:52
Speaker 6: No, if he's gonna go, he's gonna go, and he's gonna be ready and I have full confidence in him. I want to see some picket and then I want to see like a lot of Gabriel and Shadoor.
00:48:01
Speaker 2: Agreed, and that's why. And I think it's important for each one of those guys to start a preseason guard. Yes, I say both have to start, not third quarter, fourth quarter, no, no, start a game, go through the process of what it's like to be the guy. I'd love to see both of those guys start one of those games. And if you get the answer quicker positively or negatively unpick it, then that allows for that to be an easier play. For example, if if Kenny, if it doesn't go well for him right away, and it because you've God, you've had all these months, there's all the tape, like you got a pretty good idea what he is, what he's not. If it doesn't go well for and they love him, Kevin loves him. But if it doesn't go well, then those joint practices you can go Flacco in the joint practices to be ready for the first six games, and the preseason games can be all the rookies, yep, and you can sprinkle them in the joint practices.
00:48:49
Speaker 5: But like that's the that to me is is what this is about. One hundred percent one hundred percent.
00:48:56
Speaker 6: Can you find a solution to the biggest problem that's face this organization and plagued this organization since really the days of Bernie that's it.
00:49:06
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's been a long look for one and so that you're gonna get three more at bats at it this year, So and.
00:49:10
Speaker 4: You have the two picks next year.
00:49:11
Speaker 6: But like the ideal situation, would you be able to turn those into Caleb Downs and a left tackle, a wide receiver and Caleb Downs a wide receiver and a tackle an edge rusher to go opposite my you know, just to get two studs would be yeah, great.
00:49:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, if one of these guys can be Russell Wilson is probably the best example recently. So I just keep coming back to it of a guy who was drafted where he was drafted and then turned into something. And it's what that allowed for is it allowed the Seattle Seahawks to win a Super Bowl and be Super Bowl contenders because they stumbled into a quarterback. Yes, it's the same thing the forty nine ers did with perty they stumbled into a quarterback and it allowed for them to make a run at a super Bowl. So that's that's what you hope you did here, and you have three chances to be able to do it.
00:49:58
Speaker 5: Yep, So all right give it you. What are your thoughts as I look at the clock.
00:50:07
Speaker 3: We can we can do it around the league if you want to squeeze it in. If we can move it to two.
00:50:12
Speaker 5: O'clock around the sports roll around the league.
00:50:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, let's do that at too. Yeah, all right, we'll do that at too. Second hour. Cleveland Brown's Daily presented by bally Bet, official sportsmanning partner your Cleveland Browns.

Mika Fitzpatrick goes to Miami in exchange for Jalen Ramsey, and then they acquired Jonah Smith in exchange for a late round PICKSWAP. I have to assume these things were all tied together and it just had to be two separate transactions, but it kind of feels.
00:51:53
Speaker 5: Like just one.
00:51:54
Speaker 6: What's wild to me about the John news Smith piece of it is how why this all came to be? Because and just so we'll give you a little background. So John news Smith, let's get a little John Ye, Mary is John Newsmith's been in the league for a long time since twenty seventeen. He was with Arthur Smith in Tennessee and had forty one catches for four hundred and forty eight yards. Then was with in the year before that thirty five for four to thirty nine. Then he remember he was a big free agent signing by New England. Nothing really happened there. Then he reunites with Arthur Smith in Atlanta. Has fifty for five eighty two last year in Miami career high eighty eight catches, eight hundred and eighty four yards, eight touchdowns. I'm surprised Miami didn't want.
00:52:48
Speaker 5: Him, and.
00:52:53
Speaker 6: Coming off his first Pro Bowl season twenty nine years old. He's going to turn thirty shortly, another older guy to that team. He's never had monster numbers with Arthur Smith, and you're gonna have him and Friarmuth out there. It's just a strange. It's strange. And now it's like the Dolphins need want a tight end. Now they're trying to trade for a tight end. You had a tight end, right, yeah? Who did pretty well in your offense? It would seem I mean, I don't know, maybe I'm wrong about that, but it certainly would seem like he did pretty well in that offense. So it's just a very strange. I find it to be a very strange. Addition, people I think expecting him to go I'm talking from fantasy, same point. I can go and keep doing what He's not going to do that in Pittsburgh.
00:53:40
Speaker 2: No, No, because it'll be a complete job share. I mean, and they still have Washington, do don't they the big town, the big yeah out of Georgia.
00:53:47
Speaker 5: Who's just a massive human huh.
00:53:49
Speaker 2: So you know, I think that's probably from their perspective. I now understand the thinking of what they're trying to be offensively, and they're going to be what Arthur wants to be and it's going to be too tight and Roger's gonna have to pick that up pretty quickly. I'm sure they'll take a lot of the stuff that he ran in Green Bay and kind of work that stuff in, but he does, he is. It's going to be a new offense from ones he's run.
00:54:11
Speaker 5: Now, there's some of the.
00:54:12
Speaker 2: Principles probably that are in Lafleur's offense Altho, also in Arthur Smith there's probably a little bit of familiarity there. But yeah, it's a Yeah, it was a This was a wild I mean Monday going into the Holiday.
00:54:26
Speaker 6: Lake point of the NFL season. Yeah, yeah, very very dead point of the NFL season.
00:54:34
Speaker 2: Yeah, and obviously a division that's already was already very very difficult got tougher. The Pittsburgh Seelers are more talented, older, but more talented now than they were a year ago. I try to anytime I'm on vacation, I really try to unplug. Did they get is the TJ.
00:54:50
Speaker 5: Watt thing still hanging out there? Get a deal done? They have yet still hanging so that one's still out there?
00:54:55
Speaker 2: Because I thought I saw something yesterday that they that they did get the deal done, but it's hard to tell any or what's really so.
00:55:01
Speaker 3: This from Schefter within the past ten minutes, right from sources, multiple sources. In recent weeks, multiple teams have been discussing whether they can trade for Steelers stand out TJ. Watt, who skipped the team's most recent mini camp Pittsburgh, has not shown any willingness to deal. Watt so far, but he's unhappy with his contractual situation, and sources believe outside team interest is likely to increase given today's trade.
00:55:31
Speaker 5: I just see no scenario why you would trade him after doing all this. I agree, it just doesn't want to see you in here a couple of weeks. I just don't.
00:55:38
Speaker 6: This is Schefter on McAfee. Everybody has just assumed that t J. Watt and the Steelers are going to figure things out. I don't think they're very close to a deal right now.
00:55:46
Speaker 5: Here's the thing, though, too, Like he.
00:55:49
Speaker 6: We heard, I heard, we wegus that there is a belief very close there that he is going to be trade it.
00:56:03
Speaker 3: Brooke Pryor one minute ago, six months ago, I'd say there was no way TJ. Watt wouldn't be a Steeler for the twenty twenty five season. I still think it's incredibly unlikely he goes anywhere. But this regime right now is a real wild card.
00:56:19
Speaker 6: So that's being said for a reason because this wasn't about This wasn't about TJ.
00:56:24
Speaker 5: Watt. No, it really wasn't. So like for.
00:56:27
Speaker 6: People all of a sudden to be commenting on TJ. Watt specifically, it makes me think.
00:56:31
Speaker 2: That two things to remember and all of this stuff Reporters leaked things. Owners leak things. Yep, management leaks things. So if things are being said, they're being said for a reason. The other thing to remember, and this is just it's June thirtieth.
00:56:46
Speaker 5: Man, you're going into the.
00:56:48
Speaker 2: Holiday week like there's not a whole lot going on. If you're in the content business at the worldwide leader, this is a nice it's a nice day. I mean, we're in the content business. This is nice one day. Close are you're just focusing on hot log You got hot talks coming up at the end of the week. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I to me, I don't we do things or not a thing. I don't think it's a thing yet. I don't think it's a thing yet. And I don't even know what the compensation would be for t J. Watt if they did. I don't even know where you'd what's the jumping off point for that? Is it multiple ones? It's got to be a is it a player like and then whoever signed, whoever would trade for him, but then have to give him the extension and make him the highest paid defensive end in football.
00:57:27
Speaker 5: Whatever Deally does is going to usurp Miles as.
00:57:30
Speaker 4: So me that feels like.
00:57:34
Speaker 6: Detroit wanting to pair him with Hutchinson and go all in if they can. Washington has been Yeah, you know, remember when they were trying to get are there.
00:57:45
Speaker 5: They do extensions for him, those two operations.
00:57:48
Speaker 6: Extensions you can always if you sign a new deal, you can This year can be basically nothing, right.
00:57:52
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's true. Yeah, let's see. I don't know.
00:57:56
Speaker 3: I can't imagine him not being a squealer when this all gets going.
00:58:00
Speaker 5: I'm with you. I think they gotta go, Okay, this is what we're doing. We're running it. Zee.
00:58:08
Speaker 3: I think you said it perfectly earlier in the show, like this seems like a make or break. If this falls flat on its face, I think the coach is gone. Finally, Yeah, they this, this whole thing gets blown up and no holds bar. Anybody's up for on the trade pline, I.
00:58:23
Speaker 2: Think, and I think a lot of people in Pittsburgh, a lot of Steelers fans probably would say, like, if this doesn't work, then let's blow it up. Yep, because they here's the other thing. They don't know what it's like to be at the bottom, nope, and try to dig out of it. It's hard, so it's really difficult.
00:58:37
Speaker 6: Lions and Niners have tons of room. Packers have plenty of room. Eagles have plenty of room.
00:58:45
Speaker 5: Vikings command the Eagles have plenty of room with that roster. That's what they do with their because they're smart with how they use their money.
00:58:53
Speaker 2: Just seems like the most talented overall roster in the NFL. They have a ton of room there.
00:58:58
Speaker 6: They're very with those extensions. But those I mean those teams commanders have twenty plus. I mean, those teams could get it done by I mean you're talking Cowboys have a lot. Lions and Niners have a lot.
00:59:10
Speaker 5: A lot. Yeah, that would be interesting to me.
00:59:13
Speaker 6: And then going forward into twenty six, Yeah, the commanders have a ton of room.
00:59:17
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:59:19
Speaker 2: Yeah, So then what's the get back and to me just wouldn't make sense. It's all in is they're in to not have him, I would assume that he would be a part of it.
00:59:27
Speaker 6: Well, and it's it's to me, it's like if they are one foot in or one and a half feet in, one foot out, TJ. Watt probably allows them to get a first round pick that would give them two in next year's draft to go get the quarterback of their future. And by the way, it would be correct to assume that being able to go after a quarterback is more valuable.
00:59:50
Speaker 5: Than having TJ. Watt. It just is. It is.
00:59:52
Speaker 6: Guys, ever, wont a playoff game if they're not wrong.
00:59:54
Speaker 2: The one thing on that though, like and I've said in regard to us too, like if there is a Trevor Lawrence viewed athlete at the top of this draft, two first round picks aren't going to get it done unless you get a bear situation where they just drafted.
01:00:10
Speaker 5: Them, right, that's it.
01:00:12
Speaker 2: So the only way that the only team that could happen is the Titans. If the Titans get a good season out of cam Ward and then and yet they're still bad, that's the one spot where if they pick one, your two ones would get it done for sure. But there's nowhere else where.
01:00:29
Speaker 6: It's not saying it's guaranteeing you like your choice of all of them, but with two ones you're going to get. And this people think right now, Again, we have no idea what it's going to look like next April. But right now people think they're like four or five really good quarterback candidates in the draft.
01:00:42
Speaker 4: Who the kid club.
01:00:45
Speaker 2: Nick he's decent at Clemson, one great game against Texas or flipped him?
01:00:52
Speaker 5: Not Smyer, great Northeast Ohio kid, not Smyer. Is that right? Is that yep? Not Smyers at LSU.
01:00:58
Speaker 6: And then now you have all these people talking about Carson Beck. Again we just did that, I know, but now they're saying or surgery. This move for him is going to be like he's going to be like Joe Burrow.
01:01:08
Speaker 4: He was a Georgia. Stop it. No one's saying that he was a I legit read that doesn't mean they're right.
01:01:13
Speaker 5: Read everything. You can'tlieve everything.
01:01:14
Speaker 2: Read I don't believe college football. Z he's I mean, he's a little bit like the character in Draft Day Teammates can't stand him. Yeah, so there's a little bit of that with Beck.
01:01:27
Speaker 5: No.
01:01:27
Speaker 2: I mean, that's nobody that you just listed. Would you would it, would you say, even though I wouldn't view any of the people you just you just listed the way that we viewed Carson Beck last year coming out of Georgia.
01:01:41
Speaker 5: Nobody thought of cam Ward at this time.
01:01:43
Speaker 4: That's why. That's what I'm saying.
01:01:44
Speaker 6: You don't have any No, but you're positioning yourself to I don't know.
01:01:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just the idea that if there is somebody great, you're gonna be able to do with two ones is going to get it done.
01:01:55
Speaker 5: It's not.
01:01:55
Speaker 2: It's not if someone's great. There is no scenario that the Bengals would have traded out of Burrow at one.
01:02:00
Speaker 5: None.
01:02:01
Speaker 7: Oh.
01:02:01
Speaker 6: Then there's another guy that keep reading, Uh give me the school sellers.
01:02:05
Speaker 5: Oh jeez, the kid at South Carolina. It's pretty raw, yes, but seems free talented. Yeah.
01:02:12
Speaker 6: But yeah again, Yeah, because Arch is not till twenty seven.
01:02:17
Speaker 2: He could be next year, but he's not going to be. He's going to play two years at Texas. That's always been the plan. So he'll play two years at Texas. By the way, he's making six seven million dollars at Texas, why would he.
01:02:26
Speaker 5: Not to go to college. Yeah.
01:02:29
Speaker 6: So it's also wild to me that and this is not trying to be skeptical, it's just weird to me that he didn't beat out yours.
01:02:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of uh somebody just wrote, oh, Spurrier talked about that last week about I did see that about he said, well, why didn't you?
01:02:48
Speaker 4: I didn't see that yours?
01:02:49
Speaker 2: Yeah. I think I think it makes a little more sense when you think about what yours was and what his arm tellents was sure. I mean, they were in the playoff. They they lost. They lost to Washington yours' sophomore year late in the game that would have had him playing for a national title. So, and he was a five star, quote perfect prospect coming out of high school. Yeah, and then this year they went all the way to the national semifinal with youers like he's a really you know, I don't know, I'd say if you're like, yeah, I also think there were some arrangements. The other thing that people don't realize about college football is you have boosters who have compensated people to do certain tasks, right, so that that's in play too there, and Quinn is an NFL quarterback. He's drafted much later than anybody thought. But I think that there was probably a little bit of an arrangement on that side of things. So but no, there's no guarantee that Arch is gonna be that guy. There's gonna be his two uncles. Bruce Feldon, by the way, who we met on, wrote a great piece about Arch's upbringing. Everybody assumes that like Peyton and Eli were all over it. No, they were in their careers raising their own family. Either one of them lived in New Orleans. This was Cooper and his wife at Peyton and Eli's older brother, and then obviously his grandparents are around because they live in New Orleans too. But like, it's not like he was being raised by Peyton Manning.
01:04:11
Speaker 3: Correct, right is uncle Peyton? Yeah, have to see him on holidays, said, and I watched him on.
01:04:15
Speaker 2: Sunday five or six times a year, like you know exactly Manning passing academy stuff.
01:04:21
Speaker 5: And that was about it.
01:04:22
Speaker 2: And Cooper in that piece that he doesn't think that Eli ever saw him play, ever saw Arch play in high school. That's like in person because he was in the NFL. You know he couldn't, just not the way it works. A couple other things around the sports world, the WNBA announced date that will be expanding to Cleveland, Detroit, and Philly. The Cleveland team will begin playing in twenty twenty eight, so that's very cool. That's another cool thing for Downtown and that league is I will give him a lot of credit. They're being very smart with the pace of their expansion. So these three teams will get him to eighteen teams by twenty twenty eight. And I do think that the talent level will be good enough by that point to be able to support that, because you don't want to overexpand when you don't have the talent, so they can do that. EA Sports announcing today they're bringing back the NCAA college basketball game.
01:05:16
Speaker 5: Did you have it? I did? I did too, of course, but right it was awesome. Yeah.
01:05:25
Speaker 6: I think the best part of this game will be when you can have like throwback teams, if they can do that like college basketball now. And I know it's even in football. It's part of it. The portal and everybody moving around every year and all of that. But and this is totally an old man get off my lawn. But yeah, I posit that best teams, especially if they were acclimated to you know, more of the modern game, but from a Townsend butt like of like the late eighties, early nineties into the early two thousands, would smoke all these teams today because they were actually teams and more talented.
01:05:58
Speaker 2: No, what it'll be banking on is the same thing that the college football banks on, which is the atmosphere of it in the field.
01:06:04
Speaker 4: That's I don't think it has.
01:06:07
Speaker 5: It's not that. I mean, college football is the second most popular sport in.
01:06:09
Speaker 6: This if March Madness didn't exist, how people are watching regular college basketball games. No, and it's not like it was. No you know, they blew duke teams, the great Kentucky.
01:06:21
Speaker 5: The NBA blew it.
01:06:22
Speaker 2: The NBA could have followed the NFL's absolute model and done a three years removed from high school. They could have done it. And if they had done it, then they would be drafting. Can you imagine Cooper Flag and two more years of duke and then that Kneppel kid go fourth they had three in the time. Then yeah, yeah, so you to run those guys, that's a project.
01:06:43
Speaker 5: Those guys.
01:06:44
Speaker 4: You had a team that.
01:06:45
Speaker 6: Had Larry Johnson, Greg Anthony Stacey Ogman on it and Anderson Hunt and George Echols. But those big and they played two years in a row together. Oh you had in Duke when you had like Laightoner and Thomas Hill, Grand Hill and four years early like yes, Thomas was it? Thomas Davis, Thomas Thomas Hill, Antonio Davis.
01:07:07
Speaker 2: Antonio, Yeah, Antonio Davis, Yeah, Brian Davis, Brian Brian Davis.
01:07:12
Speaker 5: Antonio almost said lang Antonio lang Lang. Yeah, Yeah, I was gonna say lang about I guess can you imagine what those guys would have made an nil?
01:07:21
Speaker 4: Yes?
01:07:23
Speaker 5: Yes, So, like you know, you could have done all of that with that cal.
01:07:27
Speaker 6: With Bosman, you had Lamon Murray and Jason Kidd for multiple years to the other like it's just it's there's.
01:07:31
Speaker 5: None of it. No, I'm an it won't be as big as their college game is a massive hit.
01:07:36
Speaker 4: In that time.
01:07:38
Speaker 6: In those eras, I could have named probably the starting lives for the top twenty and obviously multiple teams I could have done like their top eight guys. And now I don't think I could name eight people in college basketball today.
01:07:53
Speaker 2: No, probably not because you know, they don't stick around and then they bounce even more so, so like they perpetually.
01:07:59
Speaker 6: The game to me will be cool if you can go back and play.
01:08:04
Speaker 2: It'll be cool if you can do like the creative player thing and be recruited and do all that. That's what the kids will want to do. And then if you can take that player and put it into NBA, which of course you can do, well, no, it's EA, so that won't be able to go into two K, it'll have to go.
01:08:18
Speaker 6: Into an EF. You can take yeah, into the next game.
01:08:22
Speaker 5: Yeah, No, that's what you would That's what you would want to do.
01:08:24
Speaker 6: Is to be and they do that in madd And can you be like a college recurt and then take your player and important.
01:08:28
Speaker 2: Because you can import the rosters or the draft classes in so you can't do that.
01:08:33
Speaker 3: One more thing here before we get to break. Netflix just posted this at eleven a m. Yeah, I saw this experience the historic rise of one of the greatest teams in all of sports. America's team, The Gambler and a Cowboys premiere is August nineteenth.
01:08:49
Speaker 2: All right, I'll just say this. This will be sports washing, because that's what documentaries are now they're sports washing. But Jimmy Johnson participated, you did. He's in the trailer for the Cowboys, Yes, pretty he's prominently featured. So that tells me now that might have been part of a condition on him finally getting into the ring of water for Jerry too. But that tells me that there will at least be some transparency about what happened after ninety three because they win the two Super Bowls and then he fires him for Switzer, right, yeah, and that was as a kid, that was a shocking a thing. Ever, Yeah, like that was an all time shocking thing. Yes, what happened there? And they won two super Bowls? They fired him, then they hired Switzer. Niners win a ninety four, Switzer wins it ninety five, and then he's gone shortly thereafter. But that if you get the real truth on that, that is why is their regret because Jerry hasn't been close sense, No, not since correct, it's a long time, No, I can't. That's that one has a chance to be pretty great. That one definitely has a chance to be great. Speaker 2: If a car, trucker, motorcycle accent conju injury, called the Injury Lawyers at one hundred elk Ohio for a free case for you, OLKX, proud partner of your Cleveland Browns. All right, we're twenty five years in quarter century team made up of players since two thousand. We are including the nineteen ninety nine team as well in this. So the idea here is we will pick the offense this week. Gibbe's first question is, how do you want this offense to look?
01:11:36
Speaker 5: Best?
01:11:37
Speaker 2: Eleven one running back, two running back, three wide receivers. What should the breakdown be? Should be the best fifty three? Well, fifty three or start? I think we do starters.
01:11:47
Speaker 5: I think fifty three would get kind of one.
01:11:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to go starters. Yeah, I think we go starters. I think if you do fifty three, it's you're gonna have.
01:11:54
Speaker 4: You have two quarterbacks, three running receivers.
01:11:57
Speaker 5: I think I think just starters. My vote be just for starters.
01:12:01
Speaker 6: I think it'll be. We could I mean, we could do both. I could be that I could add on what the.
01:12:04
Speaker 5: Fifty three, you could add all the way to the fifty three. I don't think it'd be hard at all.
01:12:08
Speaker 3: Honestly, I think you would find some positions could be a little tougher.
01:12:12
Speaker 5: Well.
01:12:12
Speaker 2: I think in the yeah, and the two thousands would be a real hole for me in terms of remembering who was.
01:12:17
Speaker 5: Good good news. I've compiled the list nine doc to get us through this week.
01:12:21
Speaker 2: But even the even the idea of having some sort of perspective on how good players were on bad teams in the two thousands would be really tough.
01:12:29
Speaker 5: When you think about a fifty three.
01:12:31
Speaker 4: I think I really don't think it'd be I'm telling you right now, wouldn't be.
01:12:33
Speaker 5: You give it a shot. You can give it a shot. Yeah, I don't think it'd be tough at all.
01:12:37
Speaker 2: Give it a shot, all right, So if we do fifty three, then you still have to name starters though, Yeah, yeah.
01:12:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, of course I've got that.
01:12:49
Speaker 5: I've got them depth charted out. Somebody's done their homework. Mister Emory's done his homework on this. Very good. All right, let's go.
01:12:56
Speaker 3: What happens when you got to feed a baby in the middle of the night and you're away five after the baby goes?
01:13:01
Speaker 5: All right?
01:13:02
Speaker 2: So on your fifty three? What is your breakdown? So I know what parameters I'm dealing with?
01:13:06
Speaker 5: Numeric we go through, but we we're gonna we're gonna go because we're doing just quarterbacks today, just picking our quarterbacks.
01:13:11
Speaker 6: We're gonna go for twenty five to twenty five offense, defense. Okay, we'll go for twenty five to twenty five.
01:13:16
Speaker 5: All right.
01:13:17
Speaker 2: Here are the list of quarterbacks we will be choosing from to make the roster. The number one pick, the first ever pick of this franchise when it returned. Tim Couch is on this list. Kelly Holcombe is on this list. There's a bunch of guys on this list. You've all seen the jersey, but these are the highlights. Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn, Colt McCoy, Josh McCown, Baker, Mayfield, and Joe Flacco. That is your list of quarterbacks, among others. If there's other guys who pop out, I guess you could you could put them on there as well. But those are some of the principal ones that you're looking out for on that front. This is difficult because I mean, did Derek Anderson have the best quarterback season or was Baker's your first year with Stefanski the best?
01:14:03
Speaker 6: So Anderson's the only one of these guys that was a Pro bowler at any point in this.
01:14:07
Speaker 2: Bakes made a Pro Bowl, didn't he has an alternate then he did? I thought he did.
01:14:12
Speaker 6: Let's see it's he didn't have a star when I glanced quickly. No, He's made the Pro Bowl twice, both in the last two years in Tampa. Baker's best season with US was twenty sixty three percent completions, twenty six touchdowns, eight picks, thirty five sixty three.
01:14:26
Speaker 5: Yards ninety five point nine raiding.
01:14:29
Speaker 6: Anderson his best year was that two thousand and seven year where he threw for thirty eight hundred yards, twenty nine touchdowns, nineteen picks and was a Pro Bowler.
01:14:43
Speaker 4: There hasn't been great quarterback play.
01:14:44
Speaker 6: Let's be honest, But I mean I had if I was going to go with, you know, three in the quarterback room, my three would be I think Bak is your starter.
01:14:53
Speaker 2: Bakes Bake had the best sustained quarterback play the franchise has had since it returned.
01:14:59
Speaker 5: And has had had the best single season, maybe had the best single season.
01:15:03
Speaker 6: Yeah, and I get, like I said, one the only Pro Bowl, but yeah, Bakes Bakes time here was sixty two percent completions, ninety two touchdowns, fifty six picks, eighty eight rating. And granted, things are very different, you know, from a rating standpoint, even from the early two thousands in terms of what like the average expected quarterback rating and completion percent and all that stuff.
01:15:23
Speaker 5: Is Anderson's thing is so strange because it's really just the one year.
01:15:29
Speaker 4: Yep, that's all it is.
01:15:31
Speaker 2: He's unbelieve he's great. He basically had one year of what Flacco had.
01:15:35
Speaker 3: From the number of players from that year in two thousand and seven that just had, they were on pace for Hall of Fame numbers. And then we're never heard.
01:15:44
Speaker 2: Like a guy just just the three big the two biggest pass catchers, and Anderson with Winslow and Edwards.
01:15:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, like, and there was no reason.
01:15:53
Speaker 2: And you were, of the three of us, you were the closest to it, Gibbe, because you were here then, Z, but you weren't, like you weren't with the Browns at that point, right, there was no reason to believe that that couldn't run it back in eight. You started the next season against the Cowboys in the late window, the national game of the week. Yeah, that's how you started the next year.
01:16:14
Speaker 3: Romeo Crenell, great coach, Yeah, good guy.
01:16:20
Speaker 5: You had a great front office. Everybody was in lockstep. All of a sudden. You had this great mix of veterans and young guys. Yeah, and they all blossom.
01:16:29
Speaker 3: Your first round draft that year was Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn. And Brady Quinn does since he the field because Derrick Anderson has the mother of all seasons. Now, Charlie Fry started that right and had the arguably the worst season opener of a game since they came back. Well, the first game in ninety nine when everybody was like, oh, excited, football's back, Football's back, and Pittspuke came in here and I don't know if we crushed midfield to the third quarter, and you were like, m all right, this is gonna take that game. In two thousand and seven, to kick off the season was just as bad. You trade Fry and then Anderson puts up fifty one on the Bengals. They win like fifty one forty eight, and they take off well.
01:17:12
Speaker 2: And the other thing about that was is Fry was the starter. It was a feel good story from the year before. But they drafted Quinn. Quinn fell out of the kind of came out of nowhere to be available. Brady became available. I was at his first game when he led a fourth quarter comeback in a preseason game and the place went nuts and got us a win. And I was working at the CBS affiliated Columbus at that time, and he came on with me after.
01:17:39
Speaker 5: I mean, it was crazy.
01:17:40
Speaker 2: He's aid Dublin kid, and you think, in my god, it's Brady Quinn's going to be the guy. So Quinn was there, and then Anderson wins the job, plays well, which leads to what happened in eight just one of the strangest one year ten win seasons ever. Honestly, when you think of all of the factors that led to that. So yes, bakes the no brainer. Anderson's on there. I think bakes the starter.
01:18:07
Speaker 6: Baked starter of Anderson second, and just that tells you where we're at.
01:18:11
Speaker 4: I have Joe Flacco as.
01:18:12
Speaker 5: The third quarterback. See, I totally disagree. That's Couch. I'm with you because it's.
01:18:19
Speaker 2: Couch to me had five games, he had thought and he was Also, he's also a Raven. I mean he's he is a He's a super Bowl champion with the Ravens. I don't think he can be on our twenty five year team for five starts.
01:18:30
Speaker 6: As much as I like five games were more impactful and more fun than any five game stretch in that period, that doesn't belong to either Bake or Derek Anderson.
01:18:41
Speaker 2: Also, the roster was exponentially better and it became different. Hey, I'm with Gibbe on that.
01:18:48
Speaker 6: I think it's Tim Couch and his time with the Browns was twenty two and thirty seventy, threw more picks than and completed passes.
01:18:55
Speaker 5: I know think you can do that with the record.
01:18:56
Speaker 2: No fair, It's the worst thing that the NFL ever did. It's the worst thing in the NFL ever did do. An expansion team and they learned.
01:19:03
Speaker 6: From fair to him again, but unfortunately it's you never had a quarterback rating in the eighties if you were to drop him in a completely different situation with his talent, and it's so unfair to him that that's where ended up, just like it's unfair to David Carr that he ended up where he did in Houston at the time. The way they did that instead of doing it like they did for Carolina and Jacksonville when it was like Mark Burdellen, like loaded teams.
01:19:29
Speaker 4: It's not fair. But like, that's why we're talking a third quarterback.
01:19:37
Speaker 5: And then it's just Baker and you're good.
01:19:38
Speaker 4: But it just seems weird.
01:19:40
Speaker 2: I think it's almost better for it almost be better if you don't want to go couch. It would almost be better if it's like McCown or something like it. Flacco is just a Raven. I mean, I love him, We love him.
01:19:51
Speaker 5: He was here. He was unbelievable for five games.
01:19:53
Speaker 6: But he's just he won a super he was the franchise quarterback of the Raven.
01:19:57
Speaker 4: It can't be if he doesn't McCown.
01:20:01
Speaker 3: He broke his leg the year they went to the playoffs, and Da came in. It took the whole gun count. It took him to the playoffs. But like, we might just only have two quarterbacks.
01:20:14
Speaker 5: That might be the solution. There might only be two quarterbacks on this Rostler, although we got to make sure we're.
01:20:20
Speaker 6: Get because I think we could have ten offensive linemen easy.
01:20:23
Speaker 5: And that's something will be easy later.
01:20:25
Speaker 4: But all right, so we'll go two quarterbacks.
01:20:27
Speaker 5: That's fine.
01:20:27
Speaker 6: Nobody's honestly. Flacco is recency. He's the first guy ever to throw three hundred yards in five straight games through thirteen touchdowns the game.
01:20:38
Speaker 4: It takes us to the playoffs. It was magical.
01:20:40
Speaker 6: If you think of over the time that time is is the three happiest times you had were Bacon twenty, Flacco here, and probably Da in two thousand and.
01:20:51
Speaker 5: Seven, well didn't count. Couch had a hulkom started the playoff game though against Pittsburgh, right, but Couch also had the Hail Mary win in New Orleans.
01:21:00
Speaker 2: Is that New Orleans? I mean that's before my time, So you you're the only one of us has a point of reference on Couches. I like the feeling around Couch at that disingenuous for me to sit here and.
01:21:13
Speaker 4: The Couch just deserved to be somewhere else. I know that.
01:21:20
Speaker 2: What I'm curious about, though, is on the Couch run, what was the feeling around the franchise and him at that.
01:21:27
Speaker 4: Poor Tim Couch got cheered for getting hurt.
01:21:29
Speaker 2: No, no, I know I understand that, but like in terms, I agree, and I think he's I think him and David Dead David Carr are probably the two examples of just.
01:21:39
Speaker 5: Got bad spots.
01:21:41
Speaker 2: Like if Couch goes to Philly place for Andy Reid, it's a totally different situation. Right, he very well could have been. But what were the moments around Couch, Like Gibbe, what do you remember about those?
01:21:53
Speaker 3: He was he had all the talent in the world. Matt Fontana just text me. He goes, yeah, yeah, a high school line in front of him. It was like he never had a chance.
01:22:04
Speaker 5: He would have moments and six times he he.
01:22:08
Speaker 3: Would have moments where he would make plays. And you're just like like, if if you had star power, if you had a running back, if you had an offensive.
01:22:16
Speaker 4: Line, Yes, it's not his fault.
01:22:18
Speaker 5: Kevin Johnson and that was.
01:22:21
Speaker 6: By the way, until recently, Kevin Johnson had more catches.
01:22:24
Speaker 4: We went through that than anybody since two thousand.
01:22:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, if you who was it Pluto who wrote the book about why they did that, why they did the Browns the way they did in terms of why did they not give give the Browns the same advantage as Jacksonville.
01:22:42
Speaker 5: And Carolina hasten.
01:22:43
Speaker 2: Because like that jackson was the NFL just like we can't have these teams be this good.
01:22:48
Speaker 5: This correct it was.
01:22:51
Speaker 3: It was Jacksonville and Carolina went to the AFC and NFC championships.
01:22:55
Speaker 5: Like right away and they were like two years we know, like that's.
01:23:00
Speaker 3: The expansion draft was you had, you had your pick from the bottom ten of every team in the NFL.
01:23:05
Speaker 2: And what sucks about that is like what the NHL has done with their expansion with Vegas and Seattle, is I mean Vegas already won a Cup because they didn't allow you to protect enough players. You got like ready made guys and they there should have been Is it right for an expansion team to play for a Super Bowl not then the first or get to a championship game in the first two years? No, but it also shouldn't be five years of digging out.
01:23:29
Speaker 6: So receiver was Kevin Johnson. The second leading receiver was Terry Kirby, third was Darren Chiverini. The leading rusher was Terry Kirby. The second leading rusher was Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
01:23:45
Speaker 5: I mean that's what we're throwing out.
01:23:48
Speaker 3: Everybody should everybody had a couch Jersey, Well, yeah, I mean everybody anything. They if he has any success at all, I'm I can say this with confidence, if he has any sustained success, he's right up.
01:24:04
Speaker 5: There with Bernie.
01:24:05
Speaker 2: Oh no doubt, oh no, because yeah, such a mess.
01:24:10
Speaker 5: But it just yeah, it's amazing.
01:24:13
Speaker 6: He never I mean he didn't play again after twenty six years of age.
01:24:17
Speaker 5: Yeah, just so beaten up.
01:24:18
Speaker 2: Well that car was like that car didn't last much longer than that either, correct, just absolutely beaten.
01:24:24
Speaker 5: All right, so let's go too. Bacon, Bacon, Derek Anderson. Okay, we love you, Joe, but Bacon Derek Anderson.
01:24:30
Speaker 4: That's I love Joe, I love Josh.
01:24:32
Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of good dudes here. Yeah, all right, So there you go.
01:24:36
Speaker 5: We're do running backs tomorrow. Give back. Sure, we just do a short segment. You're coming back.
01:24:41
Speaker 6: By the way, there's a name that's not on the running back list that I'm going to make a lobby for it to be on the football team.
01:24:45
Speaker 5: That's just a spoil. You just picked up a spot then for him. Yeah, there you go, hal four in there. Anyway you want to play Polozolo next, Yeah, we can do that.
01:24:53
Speaker 2: You listen to Cleveland ron Daies presented by Valley Bed official sportsmanning partner Your Cleveland Browns on eight fifty ESPN.
01:24:58
Speaker 5: Cleveland.
01:25:10

01:25:25
Speaker 2: All Right, Welcome ack Kid Cleveland ron Zala presented by vallely Bet, official sports footing partner of Your Cleveland Browns. From the Check the Mic podcast, So'sted by Sam Monson and Seed Paul Zelo. Here is the two fellas discussing the Browns offseason.
01:25:38
Speaker 8: Starting point, Miles Garrett demanded a trade. Instead of trading one of the best players in the NFL, they've extended him and got him locked into a new contract, albeit you know, one of the most expensive contracts in the NFL. But they've gone from their best player wanted at the door too he's happy again.
01:25:55
Speaker 5: That's good. Right.
01:25:56
Speaker 8: You can debate how they got there, but they took the They ended up with the quarterback I would have taken at number two, like I would have taken Shud or Sanders, just because I think they need a way out of that. They got him in the fifth round, so they got the same guy, and they're paying him like a fraction of the money they would be paying him if they got him at number two. And they got an extra roll of the dice, like a bonus lottery ticket with Dylan Gabriel in the third round as well. So you can argue that if they didn't think that those two guys really had a chance of being that answer that their process is way better than mine.
01:26:29
Speaker 5: Right, Why we.
01:26:30
Speaker 8: Don't think he's worth this spot. So we're gonna trust that we're that the draft is correct and let every let him slide till Day three and then we'll make a couple of moves and trade down and pick up the extra first round pick next year. And as much as you know Travis Hunter is special, he's unique, He's somebody that hasn't come along for decades, I still think the smart move is to pick up the first round pick for next year. If for no other reason, then you need the quarterback, not the guy that plays corner wide receiver.
01:27:02
Speaker 5: This is why I.
01:27:03
Speaker 7: Think the Jags Browns trade was a win win in the Jag situation, can one say star player make an impact on the team in Jacksonville? I think absolutely, Because you have a quarterback, you have a star receiver, You've got some talent on the defensive side. Do you add one Travis Hunter to the mix there that moves the needle? In Cleveland where the entire offensive line is unsigned for next year, you have questions at receiver, your secondary is unsigned for next year. You have one, one or two dependable defensive lineman. Is Travis Hunter moving the needle there? Or is it Travis Hunter plus Mason Travis Hunter versus Mason Graham plus the two extra picks plus next year's first.
01:27:46
Speaker 4: It was just a better move for the Browns.
01:27:48
Speaker 7: And to your point, like if we said before the draft, look, they're gonna forget however you want to care about our quarterback rankings, but they got our number two and four quarterbacks respectively, and Mason Graham in next year's first round pick and an extra two that's a huge win for me in the draft of the Browns.
01:28:06
Speaker 5: Yeah.
01:28:06
Speaker 8: The other point that I would make that I don't think comes up enough is there is a pretty sizable chance that Mason Graham is a better player than Travis Hunter. Like I know, Travis Hunter is seen of a special and unique and what if he's able to play wide receiver in court, Like Mason Graham is one of the top five players in this draft, you know, if it wasn't for some weird measurements like shorter than ideal arms and he weighed in twenty pounds lower than he was supposed to. Like his tape says he's the top five player.
01:28:34
Speaker 5: In this draft.
01:28:35
Speaker 8: They may have gotten the better player in addition to the first round draft pick as well. Like there's a sizable chance that that is the case. Maybe not the most likely case, but a sizable chance that they got the better player in addition to a first round draft pick next year. I think this is pure hate for the Browns for no particularly good reason. I think they've done a good job overall, given some challenging circums.
01:29:00
Speaker 5: We agree, Welshmore to come.
01:29:02
Speaker 2: You listen to Cleveland Browns Daily, presented by Bally Bet official sportsmanning partner of Your Cleveland Browns.

Speaker 2: All Right, there you go, kids, that's a busy Monday, busy Monday.
01:29:36
Speaker 5: Couple of big trades in the league.
01:29:37
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's great to have you back.
01:29:38
Speaker 5: Great to be back.
01:29:40
Speaker 6: By the way, gibbe, Yes, I'm gonna give you three guesses. I added one running back to this list. I'm gonna give you three guesses if you can name that running back, and I'm gonna make the case for him to be on this team.
01:29:54
Speaker 3: I don't have the back in front of me. I don't have the list in front of me.
01:29:58
Speaker 6: Your list is Nick Chubb yep, Jamal Lewis YEP, Coacaw, Isaiah Crowell, Peyton Hillis, Kareem Hunt, Deernest Johnson, Run, William Run, Reuben Drones, Duke Johnson, Trent Richardson, and Jerome Ford.
01:30:25
Speaker 5: I don't know who I'm missing. The person you're missing Terry Kirby.
01:30:31
Speaker 4: Lee Suggs had at.
01:30:32
Speaker 6: One point three straight one hundred yard games, including two thirty plus in a game.
01:30:40
Speaker 3: Oh, Harrison, Jerome Harrison against the Chiefs. Yeah, Jerome Harrison.
01:30:47
Speaker 5: Jerome Harrison.
01:30:48
Speaker 6: The final three games of that year led the NFL and rushing by like one hundred and fifty yards.
01:30:53

00:32:03

00:33:44

00:33:51
Speaker 3: The mess he was the only position coach normally physician reviews.
00:33:58

00:34:01
Speaker 3: We gotta work, you gotta earn the well like we've got those for later in the week when we are just kind of like, let's get through the last two days.

01:24:53

01:29:58
