Case Files #171: John David Watson | Autopsyfiles.org — John David Watson Jr., 14, left his home in Wheeler, Dunbar Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania on the evening of May 2, 1974, riding his bicycle to a nearby motel to buy cigarettes for his mother. Witnesses saw him riding home. He never arrived. His body was found the next morning on a neighbor's property; he had been shot, and the cigarettes he had bought were found on and around him. A coat seized in 1974 was tested in 2009 and gunshot residue was found; in 2015 Joseph Leos was charged with criminal homicide, but a judge dismissed the charge, finding the evidence insufficient, and it was never refiled. In May 2023, Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers offered a $5,000 reward.
