00:00:06
Speaker 1: That's been the golf show on the air for the next couple hours. We got we got a little bit of our schedule jumbled around. We'll explain it to you here in just a second, but we got lots of golf action like the Champions Tours back in action LPGA. You have live playing their final event of the season. Of the season, it's Mike Bauer, general manager of Auction Southern Dunes, Brady Wilson, the long guy, Andrew Long. Corey Matheson is not here because she's out in Sun City with girls Golf. They're having are they're having a practice day out there at Sun City there. I think it's like a water day. It should be a ton of fun for the young ladies. And Corey, if you're listening, thank you for inviting me and my daughter and my wife out there. It would have been would have been a lot of fun. But we have other family in from out of town, so we couldn't make it. But we're looking forward to some upcoming events with girls golf. But speaking of girls golf, we're going to talk with Blair O'Neill Arizona. Kind of I don't can I should I say golf legend. I mean you really think about it. Corona, Corona High School, went to ASU, won The Big Break, was on it a couple seasons one that and now she is a host of The Big Break. The revival will be out there this week on Golf Channel and available on Golf Best. Well, she's going to join us next segment for our loyal listeners to the best talk radio show in Phoenix, voted by the Phoenix Magazine readers. Batsman the Golf Show. You know that we usually catch up with Rex Hogard next segment. He's he's shuffled his schedule, right, He's going to join us next hour about ten twenty, right after golf gaming one to one, So looking first, Yeah lady, sure, thank you so. Blair O'Neil gonna join us next segment. It will take a look at our true spotlight and of course we got tons of golf to talk about because we are in Last week was the beginning of the reach you get the audio cut ready. Last week was the beginning of the playoffs, and this week we continue the playoffs. Oh can you play the rest of it?
00:02:05
Speaker 2: Play the right off, don't talk about it playoffs.
00:02:09
Speaker 3: We're just trying to win a game.
00:02:12
Speaker 1: That's gotta be up there, like some of the most memorable quotes of all time with if Denny Green's crown their ass. You know, here in Arizona you have the playoffs.
00:02:22
Speaker 4: You can be.
00:02:24
Speaker 1: And obviously practice Alan iverson practice.
00:02:29
Speaker 3: Talking about practice, I mean.
00:02:33
Speaker 1: Rory McElroy might have had one of those quotes this week as he's thrown some shady live. But guys, before we get to all of that, Scottie Scheffler dominant last week in Memphis. We're gonna talk with Rex about that next hour at about ten twenty here in Arizona. But Scotty Scheffler not just winning but winning going away eight stroke victory, eight stroke margin of victory. He didn't need it to advance to this week or next week, but nonetheless the best player on the planet. And what a week it's been for him because you had Sunday Scotty on Sunday, and then you had Thursday, Scotty on Thursday Andrew a tale of two.
00:03:12
Speaker 4: Scotti's Scotty's going to Scotty right, and you know, Scotty Scotty not performing on a Thursday is you know, just well, it's become the norm but you know, for him to close out that tournament the way he did. I love watching Scotty when he's playing like that. I mean, when he's putting good luck everybody else, there's there's no chance for you guys. You're just there to hopefully maybe get a top ten.
00:03:36
Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, you're hopefully going to cash one of Brady's golf gaming one on one best bets of a top ten or something like that, because Scotty's winning that.
00:03:42
Speaker 3: Remember, we give out Scotty to win last week on Saturday morning, and.
00:03:45
Speaker 1: You don't often give out winners.
00:03:47
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:03:48
Speaker 1: Usually it's a top ten. A top twenty with.
00:03:50
Speaker 3: The lead thirty six holes in is pretty pretty special. Units Yeah, I think he's I think he's six for six in his career. Man, I mean it's it's pretty crazy.
00:04:00
Speaker 1: Scotty Scheffler, you know, did and he didn't just win. I mean he went to quote former Arizona state head coach Todd Graham, he went left lane hammer down to put the pedal to the medal and he said, you know what, I'm not gonna win by one or two. We're not gonna make this interesting. I'm I'm gonna boat race y'all, and Scotty came out in hot, steamy Memphis. It's not that great in Saint Louis this week either, but it's not Memphis. But came out and got a convincing and dominating win. And let me ask you, guys, this locked up the player of the year question Mark.
00:04:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, absolutely, I think that. I think that does it. I mean he's.
00:04:38
Speaker 1: You know, Windom Clark is leading right now, but he won the US Open, he won another tournament earlier this year as well. If if Windham wins the next two weeks, I think that's maybe the only thing that knocks Scotty off that pedestal. But right now he's after that won last week and not just a win, but convincing, dominating Scotty win.
00:04:58
Speaker 3: I mean, I guess, Rory, I mean you're sitting at seven under. I mean, I guess he could make a run this weekend and then and then if he wanted were to win next week, and then he has the Masters and complete the Grand Slam because it's supposed took at the whole year. Yep. I just don't think that they're going to give it to him because he's the he's going to be one event short and kind of the whole you know, stance that he's kind of taken. Yeah, I don't. I just you're probably right, he's probably third, probably win Clarks two. But I just don't know how you. I mean, Scotty has two wins and a bunch of second places, and.
00:05:31
Speaker 1: I mean he's he's up there in every metric, in top tens and you know, seconds and rules up there and everything.
00:05:40
Speaker 3: I'm not going to rule him out for making a run. I mean, seventy two first day, sixty five yesterday, tied for twenty fifth. I mean, if he goes and puts another mid sixties round out on there today, I mean, he easily could get into the top ten here. Still, maybe that's a precursor.
00:05:58
Speaker 1: To Yeah, like that, I like a good tease. Scotty Scheffler wasn't teasing anybody. He dominated eight stroke margin and victory the largest of any player on tour since Scotty Scheffler last year at the Byron Nelson, when he just boat raced the field as well, fifth player in the last forty years to record multiple wins of eight strokes or better, joining Ernie L's with two. Dustin Johnson with two, Roy McIlroy with two, and oh Tiger Woods with ten. So there's there's there's your If you're gonna start comparing Scotty to Tiger, there's a big difference right there. Scotty just won by eight strokes for the second time also for him in two years or in one year. But Tiger did it ten times. Tiger won by that much in ten times. But last week led the field and strokes gained putting career best eight point nine two almost almost nine strokes gained putting. Like you guys said, when he's got the putter gun, good luck.
00:06:54
Speaker 3: Now that I think that's a little misleading. If you watch the coverage Scott he putted, well, yeah he didn't put great. He hit the ball close to them.
00:07:05
Speaker 1: Yeah yeah. You were saying that on the show last week that every approach shot was five feet away.
00:07:09
Speaker 3: I mean, he he, he. His putting statistics are because he was putting five to ten footers, you know what I mean. He wasn't putting from twenty five feet so but but that's just you know, I think this is a different golf course too from a setup standpoint. Then then Memphis was so you know, I think him getting a new new driver in the bag. That was kind of a big story. You know, he just threw a new through a new driver in the bag. Taylor made's like, I guess we need to launch this. Yeah, so you know, you know it's a little loose. It was a little loose. On Thursday, he spend some extra time on the range. Clearly got that dialed in. I mean, if Sky's hitting the driver in the fairway and hitting approach shots to ten feet, gonna that that margin's going to dwindle fast.
00:08:01
Speaker 4: You know. Scotty is world number one by such a wide margin.
00:08:05
Speaker 1: Oh man, I saw this.
00:08:06
Speaker 4: There is a smaller gap between world number two Rory and world number five thou and eleven Son Satour. Can you imagine that?
00:08:17
Speaker 3: That's that's crazy.
00:08:17
Speaker 4: He's just dominating. Yeah, it's Rory, that guy.
00:08:23
Speaker 3: That's incredible because you go ahead, get it off, get it off, get it off your chest.
00:08:28
Speaker 1: But I mean, Rory is in second, but he's so far behind Scotty, who he and a handful of others locked up officially right Cam Young two locked up spots on the President's Cup team. But Scotty is so far ahead of Rory, He's farther ahead of Rory than Rory is ahead of five thousand. That's incredible.
00:08:48
Speaker 3: Do you think Rory and Branda Schmbly have dinner together?
00:08:51
Speaker 4: I think I think I think Brandall goes over to Rory's house and tucks him in at bed at night.
00:09:00
Speaker 1: It just rocks him to sleep a little, uh little lullaby Golf Channel guests going on, we actually do I mean all pretty much all show long. We are we're talking with Golf Channel guests with with Blair O'Neill next segment and then Rex Hoggard next hour. And I don't think we're gonna our good friend Bill Huffman. He would he would always do this. He would always ask Rex. He would like, hold Rex accountable for something Brandle said on TV, Hey, what are your thoughts on this thing? I'm like, that's just let's ask Rex about Rex stuff, not about what It's not Rex's job to to keep track of Brandle. But yes, Brandal obviously a big, a big Rory McElroy fan. Uh, no doubt about it. But you know, Wyndam Clark leading right now and that's at the top of the leader board. But keep in mind, as as we discussed last week with you know, getting to fifty, you're looking You're not just looking at at you know at Rory and Wyndham Clark. You're looking at you know, the guys that are gonna make it to next week, the guys that have to play well, that have to have a good weekend. You know, guys that may like a Michael thorpe Jornsen. Michael thorpe Bjornsen sitting for t six right now he comes into Saint Louis forty one right now, he's gonna be that number thirty. He's on the bubble. He's the bubble guy. He's the last player. Patrick Cantley also tied for six with Michael thorpe Bjornsen. He's number thirty one, so he's right now. You know, if they if they quote ended the season today or ended the tournament today, Patrick Cantley is not playing next week. Michael thorpe Bjornson is. Those guys are tied and they're they're teeing off here at about an hour from now. You have you know, Ricky Fowler, Kurk Kidiyama are are right there in the mix trying to get there. Bud Caley, who had a win just a few weeks ago. It feels like, you know, Robert McIntyre is on the outside looking in for a guy that's a you know, definitely a fan favorite. Tom Kim who won the Scottish Open earlier this year, who's gonna be you know, he and Sung Jay are gonna be big parts of that international team playing for the shield in the President's Cup at Madina next month. He's number twenty nine, So there's a lot of storylines, a guy trying to make it just to next week, to play another week and not have their season end for them early.
00:11:05
Speaker 3: I will say that since we're in the playoffs that I would say it is kind of fun watching like on television, because you're you're watching the tournament leaderboard on the right hand side of the SCREENEP but then the top left where they have the player's name, they have the little green and red numbers and you know, twenty eight, twenty nine, and that watch at that thirty that top thirty cutoff right with Cantley and Fowler and or Bruynson and Tom Camp like like you just say, I mean, watching how that changes in real time on the golf course is kind of funny. It's crazy kind of like a tournament inside of a tournament, it.
00:11:42
Speaker 4: Is, and you watch those guys like, oh, this guy just made a part and then but he fell you know, two spots. You just now he's just right outside.
00:11:50
Speaker 3: And I think the Tour has done a good job, like you know on site, yep, they have that going on the leaderboards as well, so the players are seeing that real time. Do Yeah, you know it's like, Okay, did he make parror birdie on that whole? Okay, I gotta make parr birdie on this whole, you know. I mean, like I think that's that's adds to the drama.
00:12:11
Speaker 4: Yeah, because now these guys are thinking, Okay, I'm just right outside and now I have to go for this pin where normally I wouldn't. I just play safe to the middle. Now we're watching some fun golf.
00:12:20
Speaker 3: Yeah, Chang changes the way you play, for sure.
00:12:23
Speaker 1: Change the way you play for sure, no doubt about it. You know, we've got lots of golf to talk about. DP World Tour in Action. Patty Red John Daily making the.
00:12:33
Speaker 4: Fourteenth, John Daily the second.
00:12:35
Speaker 1: John Daily the second, Yes making the cut on the number, needed a birdie on eighteen to make the weekend in the DP World Tour as they are playing overseas at the NEXO Championship in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. You also have you got double barrel action course. It's the Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
00:12:56
Speaker 3: I can't can you do a Scottish Trump and person?
00:13:00
Speaker 1: Oh man?
00:13:02
Speaker 2: All right?
00:13:03
Speaker 1: You fired Scotland Donald Trump with a Scottish accent? Is I don't know? You guys are putting out the six.
00:13:13
Speaker 2: You want?
00:13:13
Speaker 1: You want me to call Kelly Endo. I'll get Frank on the line. He can do that. He's way better than you want me to. I'll give him a call. This show is loaded with we are going to catch up. I was just gonna say, we have double barrel action in America's hat up. Hopefully she's got us streaming right now either on YouTube or you know on on on iHeartRadio live at sun City Country Club with the kids out there but now joining us on the program. We head out to another wonderful lady when it comes to golf, Blair O'Neil Sun Devil, Aztec not San Diego State, Corona del Sol, joining us and now the new host of the revival of The Big Break. You know her from competing on two seasons there winning Big Break in La Republica Dominicana. But twenty three seasons we have missed the Big Break for eleven years. Blair, thank you so much for bringing it back.
00:15:39
Speaker 7: Yeah, happy to see you, Happy to be chatting with you.
00:15:42
Speaker 3: All right.
00:15:42
Speaker 1: So I was talking with our good yes it is, and I was talking with our good friend Bill Huffman the other day, longtime host of the show Arizona Golf Hall of Famer. I was talking with him the other day and he kind of said, he goes, you know what, we had Blair on a lot many times over the years, and he said we kind of were like her little break. We were we got her ready for the big break. So back's been the Golf Show and Blair O'Neil have a long history. But I'm I'm going to defer to Andrew Long Diehard Big Break fan with the first question for you, Blair.
00:16:13
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Blair, thanks again for being on. But I have a have a really quick question. I want to ask you if you have to pick between two, the Glass Break Challenge or the Wallflop Challenge, which one are you going with?
00:16:26
Speaker 7: Oh? Glass Break?
00:16:27
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that's it. That is the correct answer.
00:16:30
Speaker 7: Glass Break. I mean, both are amazing, but there is nothing like breaking a pane of glass. The sound of it is just so exhilarating, and so it's, uh, it's just the best, and especially under the pressure of a Big Break show. Oh gosh, it's just there's nothing like it. You really can't explain it to what it truly really is, and we're going to see that in this very first episode, and it's just so cool.
00:16:57
Speaker 1: I love that.
00:16:57
Speaker 3: Now it's kick Glass.
00:16:59
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you're trying to say, trying to say something else.
00:17:03
Speaker 3: I like, there go.
00:17:05
Speaker 1: Hey Blair, what has this process been like? I mean, obviously, you know, for us watching on TV, we're waiting for the debut of the new season. But for you, this has been a month's long process, and maybe even a year's long process. Like we said, eleven years without The Big Break on TV, A show that so many loved, a show that obviously you know, competed in a couple of seasons. But what's this process been like bringing this back to TV and streaming on golf Pass a day later as well?
00:17:32
Speaker 7: Oh my goodness. Well, first off, it was amazing to film. But the whole process of getting to this point, I mean, there had been whispers the last few years about Big Break coming back, and I was always like, okay, you all know that when this comes back, I want to be a part of it. So I made that very clear, and you know, it was just always waiting for that moment when everything came together and you know, all the pieces so just just correctly for this to come back and really make its debut. I mean eleven years later, So we filmed it. Obviously, I've seen it all. It's amazing. I've seen Russ drafts of the very first episode and let me tell you, I saw it all in person. But just seeing the first episode, it's making me so excited for this premiere on Tuesday night. It's just, oh, I just can't wait. It's going to be so good and the show has so much to live up to, and it absolutely is doing that and exceeding my expectations.
00:18:24
Speaker 3: So I'm pumped for our listeners that don't know. Blair kind of give us a little bit of how this season is kind of a little bit different. It's partnered with Good Good right, so, and then the winner of the contestant I'm the winner of the of the whole show has a pretty big prize at the end, right, Yeah.
00:18:46
Speaker 7: Absolutely, I mean there are, you know, always a bunch of prizes, but the main prize of this show, in the heart of what the show has always been, is getting an exemption to play in a PGA Tour event. So the winner of this will win deemption to play in a good Good PGA tournament later this year, and that is just you know, for these competitors, that's just everything to them. So that is the biggest prize among all the other amazing prizes. You'll find out what they are. But being able to play on the PGA Tour is just the absolute.
00:19:19
Speaker 1: Ultimate players So you know this, I mean, I'm sure most people listening understand this as well. There's a lot of people that are new to the game of golf. I mean Corona, you know, coronavirus COVID nineteen, you know, it pushed a lot of people to go do something new and they picked up the game of golf. Golf is at one of its you know, strongest times ever in terms of players out there, getting rounds new people to the game. And so for a lot of folks, it's been eleven seasons, eleven years since since Big Break's been on. For somebody who's relatively new to the game of golf, I mean quite literally in the last decade or even the last five six years, can you explain what the Big Break is all about in terms of, you know, if somebody hasn't watched it before, didn't watch it when you won years ago, what are they in for? What kind of treats are they in for? When you guys hit the airwaves on Tuesday at six o'clock on Golf Channel here in Arizona.
00:20:12
Speaker 7: Oh my goodness. Well, back in the day when I was on the show and I would explain it to people, I would say, it's like the Survivor of Golf. Every show, somebody gets eliminated. But the best part about this show is the cast and the competitors that we get on the show. Their whole life growing up, their ultimate goal is to you know, play on the PGA or the LPGA Tour, and that's their you know everything. And so when you get these competitive players who are all striving for the same goal and have this amazing opportunity in front of them, I mean, this show absolutely changes lives. It changed my life. I mean I wouldn't be here hosting the show if I hadn't won Big Break, you know, ten years ago. And nowadays, like you said, we're going to be bringing the old viewers who watched every single episode back in the day, and now all these new golfers who have never seen the show, and especially you know with us, you know, joining forces with good good. I mean, we're going to have we're absolutely growing the game with this show. I mean, I think Big Break was ahead of its time back when it was. I mean it was it was the golf entertainment and the only golf entertainment really other than you know, watching actual professional golf on TV. And now with social media and YouTube and all these golf influencers, you know, they're taking basically bits and pieces of Big Break and making their own shows and challenges and parts of it. So I think Big Break really started everything and now we're kind of, you know, bringing back full circle a huge a huge variety of fans that they're going to be watching the show and young and old, which is really cool.
00:21:52
Speaker 1: You said, growing the game. That's that's something that Live said that they were going to do and they couldn't. You're actually going to do it with Big Break.
00:21:58
Speaker 4: Andrew go ahead, Well, just just another nail in the costume forum, right, Oh my gosh.
00:22:03
Speaker 1: So if you're watching on YouTube, look at Brady's hat by the way, just for anybody out there.
00:22:08
Speaker 4: So you've got twelve golfers competing at Horseshoe Bay Resort in Texas, and you got all these different challenges, our favorite, the glass break and the flop wall. So Blair, be honest while you're watching these challenges. I mean, how often do you think, man, I could beat these guys.
00:22:27
Speaker 7: I'll tell you what the play. I think that the competitors on this season. I think it's the best that we've ever seen. I mean, oh my gosh, just wait till you see the first episode and it just gets better and better and better. Oh, it's truly truly amazing to play. You can think that, but I also know what it is like being on that side and when you are standing over a shot, the way your heart is just pumping out of your chest. I mean, I could explain this to you, but it doesn't really explain like unless you're in that moment. There's nothing like this feeling. You know, Oh gosh, even playing in you know, PG tour events, are you know me playing in LPGA tour events. It's different because you know that you have, you know, eighteen holes ahead of you. On this show, it's so cutthroat you it can come down to one shot and if you pull it off, you're good. If you don't, you're out of there and everything is done. So just it's so compacted the pressure on this show, and yeah, that kind of heats things up. And other than that, there's the cameras and the eating around in between challenges, and there's it's not just regular golf. There's a lot of components to it all, and so really keeping your focus and staying dialed in while you're filming is very, very, very important.
00:23:44
Speaker 1: So did you guys have to like put up walls around the course at Horseshoe Bay to make sure people didn't see what was going on? I mean, I know that, you know, I'm kind of joking here, but in terms of in terms of, you know, keeping with the reality element, with the fact that you know, these players are competing for a huge prize and being able to keep it all a secret until we get to watch it a lot, you know, for us live on Golf Channel, not live, but we get to watch it unfold on Golf Channel every Tuesday. What was it you know, or what was it like not just for you with this experience, but when you were playing in terms of having to keep these big secrets, which obviously you are currently doing right now by not telling us who won.
00:24:24
Speaker 7: You know, yeah, well, back when I was on the show and how it is now. You do sign a contract, yeah, and it's pretty massive if you break that contract. So I don't think anyone's wanting to break that, but think about it, it's harder nowadays with social and that, you know, it would be easier to you know, kind of slip up. But ultimately, at the beginning of this, it has made very clear what we can and what we cannot say, and I think everyone between what we signed our names and well, ultimately more than likely we're going to follow those rules. But while we're filming it, I mean, Horseshoe Bay Resort was so amazing, such a cool property, and it's a very big property, and while we were filming out there, there was not public that could see anything that we were doing while we were out there, so they wouldn't have nothing would have gotten out from any viewers out there. They kept us pretty uh, pretty kept to ourselves and there wasn't public around, so that wasn't even an issue. As kept pretty pretty on lock.
00:25:27
Speaker 1: So you guys are you guys are like a sequestered jury. I'm just saying I'm jumping on a scissor lift with a pair of binoculars and I'm not you know, across the street that's what I'm doing.
00:25:37
Speaker 2: So might have been.
00:25:38
Speaker 7: Some people out there who could see bits and pieces of our setup and everything, but no one knows what was going on.
00:25:43
Speaker 1: I'm flying a drone. I'm trying to find out what's going on ahead of time.
00:25:47
Speaker 3: All right, Blair, So the Big.
00:25:49
Speaker 7: Break rock set up and like what's going on here?
00:25:51
Speaker 5: Yeah?
00:25:52
Speaker 3: Yeah, hey so Blair without without uh violating your NDA here like he tell us some tell us some of the players that that you watch, whether they how you don't have to divulge whether they've advanced or not. But some players that you've got to know or that you were kind of rooting for. I mean there's yeah, I mean you had to have some favorites in the field.
00:26:17
Speaker 7: Oh, I mean, there's That's what I got to say. Like, the producers of the show did such a and I've told them this several times. They did such a great job of casting. You can watch like the mesa Players episode on Golf Past right now, but it will also air Monday night this Monday at seven pm Eastern on Golf Channel, where you can really get to feel, you know, the backgrounds and the stories of these players and what they've gone through in their lives. And then actually that will air an hour before Big Break on Tuesday Storry. Monday Night is actually where you can watch the Big Break Qualifier on Golf Channel. But there's a handful of players that I loved. I mean, We've got Fletcher, who you know, competed in the Big Break Qualifier that's on Golf Past right now, and he's just such a great character. We've got Felton, who you know, was in China and got in a car accident and was in the hospital and couldn't play golf for a while and he's you know, come back and fought back. He's got Peter who is just a money guy game who literally goes out to the course and his only job is playing whatever money games he can find that day, doesn't matter what the amount is. There's just so many great characters. And they have bat who who is best friends with Jason Day, grew up with him. He does YouTube and plays and is just like such a character. So we've got just oh, there's just I could go on and on. Every single player brings something really cool to the show and have gone through something, and there's going to be someone for everyone to connect with. There's gonna be a handful of people that everyone will connect with. That's I think is what's making us this season so amazing as well.
00:27:55
Speaker 3: And so for our local listeners here, we do have we do have one the we're all kind of rooting for in the back of our back of our minds, you know, I mean, number number ten on the list, but number number one, number one in your hearts, in your programs. Uh. Hunter Epson, right, he's a local. He plays writer Ebsen right, his brother's Hunter. I'm sorry. The writer. You know, he lives here in Arizona, plays in the Grass League, is on the good good Grass League team Dallas Horseman, the Dallas Horseman. Yeah, you know, Uh, give us, give us some insights about writer. Tell us like, did he did his socks match when he showed up to the I mean, give us give us some dirt on Rider. We want some dirt on Rider, is what we want.
00:28:38
Speaker 7: I love I love Writer. He's a great player. Yeah, and I you know, obviously met him for the we live in Arizona, met him for the first time when we were out there filming. And I love, you know what, I love hearing the stories about I love him telling the stories about him and his brother and his dad and their dynamic and just how much they just kind of you know, around with each other, you know, on and off the golf course, and how much fun they have on the course, and how competitive they are. Like I love hearing those stories. But writers great, great golfer. And he's just I met his girlfriend too. We're flying home from from the airport and I told him, I was like, we've got to cheat it up here in Arizona. So, I mean, he's just he's so much fun to watch. So I'll definitely be watching him in the Grass League as well well.
00:29:24
Speaker 1: He definitely kicked his coverage there.
00:29:25
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We have a special heart in our place for we have a special place in our heart for his girlfriend.
00:29:34
Speaker 1: So yeah, he's a smart man. He's a lucky guy.
00:29:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, So I want to ask a lucky guy, that is true.
00:29:42
Speaker 4: I want to ask you about the non plane captains. You know, you got Bubby and Brad Dalky who I love Brad and know him personally. You know, boys from Oklahoma. So how is it having those guys on the show with you guys and and you know what, what kind of energy do they bring?
00:29:59
Speaker 2: Oh?
00:30:00
Speaker 5: So it's so cool.
00:30:00
Speaker 7: They bring such a fun element to the game and They're very different, you know. Brad is you know, more serious, more maybe methodical, where Bubby is more like, you know, team energy and kind of team spirit. And so they kind of maybe go about things as team captains a little bit differently, but just that's their personalities, you know. So they each bring something really cool to the table, and I think it's really neat that these contestants, you know, have a you know, kind of like a team captain out there that they can talk to and get some advice from as well throughout the experience.
00:30:36
Speaker 1: Blair O'Neil joining us on Backsmith of golf Show Corona Del Soul, Aztec Sun Devil, Arizona's own really looking forward to the upcoming revival of The Big Break. Blair was on two seasons One Big Break Dominican Republic. It was on the air for twenty three seasons and then it was it was gone for eleven years. But she's part of the team bringing it back Good Good and and others at the new episodes will air on Tuesdays here in Arizona at six o'clock our time. But Blair, I want to ask you because a good friend of the show is Chad Mum he comes on all the time and he does a weekly podcast that's also on the Golf Channel, the Vanity Index Podcast with Your Big Break co host Wells Adams, and I just want to ask you something I've thought about asking Chad for a long time, which is, how do you have the patience to put up with Wells? My goodness.
00:31:30
Speaker 7: I actually went just with him like a couple of days ago. They are so fun together. Oh my gosh, Chad is great. Wells is amazing, you know what. I've known Wells from playing in some golf tournaments the last few years, and so I was so excited when his name came up to co host with me and working with him. He was a pleasure to work with. He's just so funny, He's quick witted. I think he's a really thoughtful guy. He loves the show. He loves Big Break first and foremost, and just wants to see it succeed and do well. And we had so much fun out there, and it was just fun to have soone to banter with out there while we were hosting the show. But he's awesome, top notch and really brings a fun new element to the show as well. So I think it's just a really great fit.
00:32:17
Speaker 1: I mean, obviously I'm joking around, Wells does a great job and looking forward to seeing how he is on Big Break. And I mean, you guys are starting off with a bang with a glass break challenge in the very first episode. As you mentioned, you know, it's all of it took place at the beautiful, challenging Horseshoe Bay Resort in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, So you spent a lot of time in Texas recently. But Blair, for those of us listening here in Arizona, I mean we're sitting in Phoenix doing the show. How tired are you still to the world of Arizona golf? I mean, you played your high school you know, golf here, you went to Asu. Do you still live in Arizona? Do you still play in Arizona? How tired are you still to the Grand Canaan state? Even though you are a international media superstar.
00:33:00
Speaker 7: I travel with Ton, but I still live here in Arizona. I absolutely love Arizona. I think Arizona has some of the golf, some of the best golf, best golf courses, especially when the weather starts getting cooler here. I mean, goodness, we have so many great courses. I'm a number at at fire Rock Country Club and at White Mountain Country Club up north. And then I think, if you're coming out here to play golf, I think weekapat is an amazing spot to check out. The views out there are insane. I used to be at at Greyhawk. That's, of course, you know, one of the best courses here in Arizona. But there's just so many great options here for beautiful golf. And I sure love living here in Arizona. So even though I travel with Ton, I still call Arizona home.
00:33:41
Speaker 1: I believe the General Manager of Auction Southern Dunes is something cat in is thrown right over. Brady Wilson, the GM of Auction Southern Dunes is waiting for that that course, that championship course to be thrown out there.
00:33:53
Speaker 7: And Southern Dunes, Yes, yes, yes.
00:33:56
Speaker 3: You're welcome any time.
00:33:56
Speaker 1: Playir many the name guys, Hey Blair, What's what's in the bag right now? What are you playing?
00:34:04
Speaker 2: Oh?
00:34:04
Speaker 7: All Cobra equipments. I've got my bet and Ardie Putter, the new Cobra driver this year is insane. It is the best, I think the best driver that they've had the last couple of years, and and then of course my super Stroke grips got to have the Superstroke grips.
00:34:21
Speaker 1: So how how do we get our hand I just I saw you post this on on Instagram the other day. How do we get our hands on the back to school pencil grip? I saw that. That is one of the coolest grips I have ever seen. That is tremendous. I love it.
00:34:38
Speaker 7: One of the best things that they do is these limited edition grips. So is it?
00:34:41
Speaker 5: Is it?
00:34:41
Speaker 7: And then when I looked, I think it might be sold out already on their website, right, I bet you I could get you guys one.
00:34:46
Speaker 1: I'm not trying to angle for one. I just I'm not trying to angle for one. I just saw that and I was like, that is so cool. I love the custom grip back to School. It's like a number two, you know, Dixon ty Konda, Roga pencil or whatever.
00:34:59
Speaker 2: It is.
00:34:59
Speaker 1: That tremendous.
00:35:00
Speaker 2: So good.
00:35:01
Speaker 7: Yeah, I could have some sent to you. They are amazing. They're you know, amazing to work with, and they're in the kid edition, you know, especially the Potter grips. I mean, everything is just so fun, but they come out. You got to get him quick, but uh, you're talking to the right person.
00:35:16
Speaker 1: So uh, Blair Big Break. We're all excited for the debut on Tuesday. Outside of Big Break, what is next for Blair.
00:35:25
Speaker 2: O'Neil, Oh my goodness.
00:35:27
Speaker 7: Well, I have my show Glam Golf with Blair O'Neill that's on Golf Pass and Golf Channel and I play nine hole matches with celebrities, influencers and athletes and it's really cool to get an inside look of what it's like to you know, hang out and play nine holes with you know, all these different types of players. And then School of Golf is going back.
00:35:46
Speaker 1: I love it. Yes, Oh so good.
00:35:50
Speaker 7: It's bittersweet because Martin Paul retired and I had just loved working with him. He is just amazing. And but the new co the new host is Eric Cogorno and he is great. We've already started filming and oh my gosh, everyone's going to learn so much from him. He has a beautiful style of teaching. And I'm just so excited that School of Golf is going to be back in action and that you know show is just so successful. So we hope to continue that going, and then of course on Golf Toss you can watch you know, all my golf tips, and we can go around the country and put on live clinics that Aaron Golf channel as well. So and then big big rematch show I host too. So it's there's a lot going on. They all really exciting.
00:36:34
Speaker 1: You're very busy, and I will say I have a very love hate relationship with School of Golf because I absolutely love the show and I think that I'm I think that I'm making it and I can just never actually execute because I'm terrible at golf. But I watch every time and I'm like, I should do that. That's great, that's genius. You guys are making it so simple for me to understand on how to improve my game. And then I get out and I'm like, Okay, I stink in golf.
00:36:59
Speaker 4: I can't do it.
00:37:00
Speaker 1: So I have a love hate relationship with that program. I love it, but I hate that I can't actually follow your instruction.
00:37:07
Speaker 7: I think that the tip for watching the show and then putting it into action is picking because we give you so many tips throughout the show. There's so much good information, you know, but you really have to sift through what is actually like pertinent to your game and where you're at your game at that moment. So if you pick one or two tips and just focus on those, I find that that you know is much better than overwhelming yourself yourself with everything that you've learned, because there's just so much information there. But I mean, gosh, the show is so good and this new you know this the revival of School Golf is going to be really great too. But continuing to help people with their games. So yeah, just dial it down to one or two tips, not don't try to do everything at once.
00:37:45
Speaker 1: Okay. Good? So I'm yeah, okay, that's good. That's good. That's good to know. It's I like it.
00:37:50
Speaker 4: You're trying to do too much about it, right.
00:37:52
Speaker 1: So here's the thing. So I just I learned how to learn. Is what I just did is Blara O'Neil helped me learn how to actually learn from watching School of Golf and we can't wait Glass Break Challenge on tap on Tuesday on Golf Channel and then on Golf Pass as well. Blair O'Neil, we can find you on Instagram at Blair O'Neil Golf. I'm sure everybody listening is already following. You got a billion followers as well. It's always great to follow you, and we appreciate you continuing to make Arizona proud of your incredible career and everything that you're doing. And that's why I ask what's next for you? Because you always have so much going on. You wear a bunch of hats and we appreciate your time on this Saturday morning.
00:38:34
Speaker 8: Thank you so much.
00:38:36
Speaker 7: Oh so all right chatting with you guys, and thank you thanks for having me.
00:38:39
Speaker 2: I appreciate it. There you go.
00:38:41
Speaker 1: She competed on two seasons, the Big Break one in the Dominican Republic and the series is back on Tuesday, and looking forward to I'm sure we're gonna track down Ryder epsin We're gonna probably run down Wells Adams, see if we can have them on to talk about Big Break, because that's one of those things that you know, twenty three seasons on the air. There's a lot of people that watch the lot of Big Break, and I love how Blair said that she goes this show is for people who've never watched it, and also for people who've watched every episode of those twenty three seasons.
00:39:09
Speaker 4: Well, just think about all the guests that we've had on who have been on the big break or are going to be on the big break. You know, it's big break is awesome, it's the big break.
00:39:19
Speaker 1: Right, and it's it's on Golf Channel, and then you know, you get it on Golf Pass on your phone the next day when you're you know, when you should be doing work and instead you're watching.
00:39:26
Speaker 4: You're talking about work.
00:39:27
Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, practice, No, No, we're talking about big break. Hey, coming up next, the true spotlight of the week. This is one of our phase We were actually out there broadcasting live earlier this year. That's next Golf Gaming one to one, Rex Hogger to ten, twenty beat the Pro. 00:41:03
Speaker 1: I love that long the best talk radio show in Phoenix continues Backsmith the Golf Show. Thank you Phoenix Magazine listeners or readers for voting Backsmith of the Golf Show as the twenty twenty six best talk radio show and uh one. I think one of the reasons why maybe we got that is because we always bounce around to different courses. We tell folks about different courses all around the Phoenix area and all throughout Arizona and the southwest. And today we're going out east the last Coalinas. We were out there earlier this year for live broadcast and uh, you know, for for for a lot of folks, maybe I haven't played Los Coalinas and you got to get out there. That's a that's a gem.
00:41:44
Speaker 3: That's yeah, it's out there in Queen Creek QC QC. It's one of the newer newer members to the Trunan family. They came into the to the Trunan family just just right out about a year ago, September twenty five, and they've you know, they've they've brought in some new staff. Don hass is the director of golf out there. He was formerly at Grass Compings. He also worked for a turn Down in Tucson. Really good, dude. Uh, there's a there's a merchandiser in the shop out there, the buyer, Becky. We love Becky, We love Bey.
00:42:18
Speaker 1: We were out to broadcast life because Becky was like, you guys, gotta get out.
00:42:21
Speaker 3: She's a big she's a big Sunday Swagger fan. You can get some of that swagger year out there, but no, I mean the golf course, the best golf course in Queen Creek, you know, voted on by you know, like the Queen Creek Tribune and some other publications out there. You know, it's eighteen holes, par seventy one, and you play through some homes. But I will tell you from playing there, the the corridors that you're teeing off on. There are homes left and right, but the corridors have beautiful vistas of the mountains. They've they did a great job of routing the golf course so that your targets off teaser, I'm going at that mountain peak, I'm going at this area. So really great corridors in the way, that really smartly designed golf course out there. You know, it's eighteen holes, it's about sixty six hundred yards. It's friendly, you know, you from the tips, you know, but there's other te's you can play. Just really really cool cottonwood trees, pretty tranquil out there. I think it was originally designed by Michael Asmunsen, Yes as Munson, and opened in nineteen eighty two. Yeah, So I mean, really really cool area out there and a great place to practice.
00:43:34
Speaker 4: Andrew, Yeah, they have a great practice facility. And you know what I like also about that golf course. It's walkable. You know, when you think about a golf course being in a neighborhood with homes around, you just think of, oh, man, there's gonna be a long trek between holes in between you know, walked. Now, it's not that way at Las Quenas. They've done a really good job. They did some renovations out there that they put a ton of money into it. They've done a great job. And then you know, one thing also that I love just about any club is the food, yes, sir, And so they've done a really good job at the Social Birdie when you're making the turn, they've got an awesome menu.
00:44:13
Speaker 1: Well, and and it's about to be fireplace time. I mean, just it's a little a little warm now. But man, they have such a beautiful patio. They got the big fireplace out there, and we were broadcasting like right on the backside of the fireplace looking at the eighteenth green. But it is such a tremendous gathering area for not just golfers that make the make the trip out there to play, you know, but people in the neighborhood. That walk over and go, you know what this is. This is the best meal in town. I'm going to hang out, maybe not now, but in a month from now on the patio, I'm going to have a couple of cocktails. Maybe not even play golf, just go out there and have a wonderful time. It's it's a wonderful you know, it's a great course, but it's also a great center for the community there. And uh you know I parked over right by the pickable course. Yeah, that going on.
00:44:54
Speaker 3: There's the airstream, the airtream. Yeah, they have the airstream trailer out there with with some some freshmans for you.
00:45:01
Speaker 1: Absolutely they have they hydrated. When we were there doing the show, they were setting up. There was a big party that had the tent over there. So weddings, great event lawn, patio, entertainment area, you know, active lifestyles. It's not just golf. It's so much more for social gatherings and the like. And you mentioned Brady. The new ownership took the reins just a few years ago and man, they've really reinvested in the course, improving the experience, great value as well. And it's you know, the golf is great but there's so much more and it really is just such an integral part of the community. But the value, Yeah, let's get down to brass. Let's get set. Rates are always great and Access Premium or Access Premium Plus member, especially if you're using your code back Spend fifty, you're gonna get fifty dollars off your Access Premium or Access Premium membership. Backspin fifty is the code. You're gonna get some smoking deals there as well.
00:45:50
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean right now. Weekday rates starting at fifty five dollars thirty dollars after three pm, I mean, come on, yeah, you can get in full eighteen for thirty bucks. Where can you that? In the valley? Weekend rates started around eighty and it's only forty after four, So good. What a great option out there. Lost Colinas Baby Lost Kalinasgolfazy dot com.
00:46:10
Speaker 4: They have their club championship coming up September twelfth through thirteenth, so sign up for that.
00:46:15
Speaker 1: Well, and you mentioned Sunday Swagger, you know, Becky at the at the at the golf Shop loves. But they've also got a big a pooka Travis Matthew Eastside Golf.
00:46:23
Speaker 2: Good.
00:46:23
Speaker 1: Good, they got a whole bunch of lou loose over them. Yeah, year up at Los Colinas as well, Los Colinasgolfazy dot com coming up on the other side. Hey, that's a winner, especially if you're getting a great deal to go out there paying those rates to play some great golf. Brady's got some winners for you coming up.
00:46:40
Speaker 3: Maybe you got some winners for you, maybe.
00:46:42
Speaker 1: Golf Gaming one oh one, and then Rex Hoggar joins us. For anybody listening, you thought, maybe oh we missed him. He's usually on in the first hour.
00:46:50
Speaker 2: Well he had.
00:46:50
Speaker 1: He moved back a little bit for Blair o'neils, So first is joining us after Golf Gaming one on one coming up as we make the turn on backsmen.
00:46:58
Speaker 8: The Golf Show proceeding has been a paid program.
00:47:07
Speaker 10: This is the story of the one as a maintenance engineer at a beverage manufacturing plant. He starts his day knowing every line is ready to run because Granger delivers the industrial grade products he needs to keep mixers, conveyors and packaging equipment.
00:47:22
Speaker 1: Backspin the Golf Show making the turn. Thanks everybody listening locally on Fox Sports Arizona, worldwide, on your podcast platforms and watching us live. Next segment. If you missed the first hour, you missed Blair O'Neil Arizona Golf, I kind of say, I mean, Brady, am I am I overdoing it when I say Arizona Golf legend, I mean I think.
00:48:14
Speaker 3: No, yeah, no, my my. Some of my fondest memories with Blair, like obviously get to know her a little bit over the over course of time, but when before I had a relationship with Blair, like we were always on the same flight coming back to Phoenix from the PGA show in Orlando. Okay, yeah, yeah, everything we were always waiting in luggage claim and she always had like the pink bag and the pink you know yeah, and it is like, hey, Blair, hey, how are you like? It was the PGA flight back from Orlando. So so I.
00:48:47
Speaker 1: Liked the pink bag thing because just recently they did a thing, you know, promoting Big Break and they asked, wells Adams, the co host of the Vanity Index podcast, you know, which is on Golf Channel with with our guy Chad Mum. And they said, all right, go through the roster and one word for every competitor. And he goes through and he's like, this guy is you know, this guy's an assassin, you know in terms of the players. And they go, all right, go to your co hosts. One word description for your co hosts. And he said, Blair O'Neil, Princess Princess, you know, are the pink bag matches that are.
00:49:21
Speaker 4: Our friend Bauer Nadine Bubeck. She's a Paradise Valley City lifestyle magazine. She introduced me to to Blair O'Neil last year and she's Scottstale Magazine. In Scott Stale Magazine. Uh, Blair is probably one of the nicest people. Genuine. Yeah, is a genuine good person.
00:49:38
Speaker 3: Has to be. She's an aztext from Corona.
00:49:40
Speaker 1: Yeah, she has to be. She's a sun devil.
00:49:43
Speaker 4: Oh, here we go here.
00:49:45
Speaker 1: Hey, coming up on the program, As we mentioned, Rex Hoggard beat the Pro gonna be after that, but first.
00:49:51
Speaker 5: It's time for Gold Gaming presented by Southern Dudes Golf Club with Backspin's very own Wizard of Ox coach Brady Will.
00:50:06
Speaker 1: Expecting You're not singing just looking at me, I'm expecting that.
00:50:15
Speaker 4: I was like, where are the Shenanigans?
00:50:20
Speaker 3: Wait for it?
00:50:20
Speaker 1: When drop?
00:50:21
Speaker 3: When I believe and believe? Okay, we gotta get it going. Lasso season four is out.
00:50:27
Speaker 1: I watched the first episode. I gotta wife and I watch it together, so we gotta wait that were schedules matchups that we can watch.
00:50:33
Speaker 3: The Susan Boyle reference in the last episode was pretty awesome.
00:50:36
Speaker 1: We tried to talk our daughter into our three year old daughter like, hey, do you want to watch ted Lasso with mom and dad? And she's like, I want Blue Eye. I'm like, but how about ted Lasso? Do you want to watch ted Lasso? Are you sure you don't want to watch ted Lasso, Mom and Daddy.
00:50:53
Speaker 3: AFC Richmond's blue and red.
00:50:55
Speaker 4: Oh I see somebody in blue red?
00:50:57
Speaker 3: Now oh hey, now they how are we doing? We had one blue which is that's all a push, that's a push. But no, pretty decent week for us last week twenty three and eighteen. That's fifty six percent to win. I was kind of with some people this week and I was at a callaway event over in uh in San Diego, which is nice to be in when it's hot.
00:51:22
Speaker 1: And German settlers it means Wales.
00:51:24
Speaker 3: Sorry, yes, And some of my Vegas boys were over there.
00:51:28
Speaker 1: Okay, and uh they also know hot.
00:51:30
Speaker 3: They also listened to the show right Vegas. So I'm at this I'm at this opening party down at Delmar Golf Center, which is kind of a really cool golf range right there by the racetrack and by the ocean, and the guys from Vegas come up to me and one of my best friends that goes, hey, I listened to your show. What are you hitting for the year? And I said, right now, I'm at fifty six percent for the year. That's every bet, that's the pre tournament bets, that's the best bets, that's everything I've given out for the entire twenty twenty six, I meant fifty six percent.
00:52:06
Speaker 1: He goes, did you keep track of that?
00:52:08
Speaker 3: He goes, Brady, did you know that the best sports gaming handicappers in Vegas are fifty seven to fifty nine percent? I was like, felt that felt like gratification, right, like the guy that from Vegas. Yeah, it was good.
00:52:21
Speaker 1: So we are the wise guy, Johnny, the wise guy the profession.
00:52:26
Speaker 4: Yeah, a little taller after that comments, Yeah, it was.
00:52:29
Speaker 3: It was, And then it was like, well, who do you got this week? You know what I mean? We went right into that.
00:52:34
Speaker 1: Fifty six percent? Guy lowed me up with some picks.
00:52:36
Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, so that they talk about pressure.
00:52:38
Speaker 1: Tell me to listen to the show, Yeah, follow us on Instagram at backsman gone, I told him tournament, that's.
00:52:44
Speaker 3: Right, So we have a growing population in Vegas. He told me there's they put it on in their clubhouse there at the Revere. So that's kind of co all right. Yeah, So anyway, for all those Henderson, Nevada folks listening out there right now, you're getting ready to run down to this to the Green Valley Ranch Sportsbook and throw in some picks I got some for you. But looking back last week, we gave out Scotti Scheffler to top five at the beginning of the week. Of course he won. We also gave him out to win on the show. That helped. So those were two pretty good picks. Kind of feeling good about that. Fleetwood Top twenty, Jackson kovun Dot twenty. You know, we did okay with the top forties with Bud Cowley and Jake Knapp and Nikolai Hoyguard and did really good in the We're back on our streak with the tournament. Head to head matchups, always try to give out five. Let's go, we won four out of the five there, right, so Covid Kovun over got her up, Tom Kim over Thur Bronson, Henley over McIntyre who you know Withdrew which was kind of an easy win. And then Mitchell, your boy Mitchell yep, he he was plus money over Justin Rose and that was a nice win for us. So pretty pretty good there. Now on best bets on the show again, Scotty Win, Jake napped the top forty, our Top twenty, and Alex Nor in a top twenty. Ax Norton finished third, which kind of got him into this week, I think. So that was kind of a good run. And then you know, we gave out some bonus picks and my favorite pick last week the Edmonton Elks Man. They're my team in the CFL, just a juggernaut. They came from behind to win last night. Okay, you know you have a little CFL love there. But this week, you know kind of where we're standing right now. Lots to throw out there, but it's a smaller field, so there was less less to put out there. We did put Scotti Scheffler top five. That does not look good, but I wouldn't rule it out.
00:54:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, we still got time for That's still time for that.
00:54:40
Speaker 3: Tom Tom Kim is towards the bottom. We gave him out of top twenty. That does not look good either, But JJ spaond Russell, Henley, Seawoo, Kim, and Hedeki Matsyama, all the top twenty feel good right now. If you're looking at the leaderboard, and then the tournament had to head matchups, they're kind of all over the map. There was more of those to do this week, and so that's what I kind of leaned into. Okay, we've had some success with that this this year. Uh, Spawn over Fowler to Warrenson over Minwu Lee Seewoo, Kim over Wyndham Clark. That one may not happen because Wyndham's playing so well. Uh Tom Kim over McNeely. That one's not gonna hit because Tom Kim not playing well. Burns versus Oberg and more Cow versus Thomas More Calivers Thomas are They're tied pretty much. So I mean that's gonna come down to the wire. And then then Live Indy. You know, we had to give out some Indie Live picks because it might be the last one.
00:55:32
Speaker 1: You got to get in before the buzzer.
00:55:34
Speaker 3: Our I p Live.
00:55:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, if you aren't watching live on YouTube and Facebook right now, Brady is wearing a live hat and he took a sharpie and crossed out the logo of the Legion team's logo and put our I p on on the on the hat.
00:55:50
Speaker 3: Yeah, because I because John Ram's gone, well, we're gonna ask Rex about that. But so there was there was a you know, I like a little theme, right, I gotta bet on John Ram. So we did bet on John Ram Top five. He's playing well today. He's a little bit further back. He'd have to make up some ground for that to hit. But you know, John Rom's gonna have to take the Patty Reid route back right or the Brooks Koepka route back. We don't know yet.
00:56:17
Speaker 1: If they open up the window for that.
00:56:18
Speaker 3: So so we got I for a live. I did give out Rom trell hatton top ten, Joaquin Neman and a few others down the road in top twenty, Victor Perez Withdrew. So that's the blue on the card that Andrew was talking about. That means a push but over at the next so, uh, Patrick Reid's fourteenth and we give him out top twenty. Uh So the rom Patrick Reid was a That was my theme there in that, in that little deal. So we'll just see how this all rolls out. So let's get to some best bets. The Premier League's back by the way too, So that's kind.
00:56:50
Speaker 1: Of Premier League.
00:56:51
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, the prem as they call it. Yeah, which how many.
00:56:56
Speaker 4: Leagues are in this league?
00:57:00
Speaker 3: Countries? Are you in the Champions League or the Championship League or the Premier League? Yes? All of them? Okay, So best bets this week? Okay, I think Scotty Scheffler's plus money Andrew right now to get back into the top ten. Right so he's pretty far down the list, but shot sixty five yesterday. We had his Scotty Thursday. I think he's going to continue to climb the lead aboard if he creeps into the top ten right now, you can get that at plus money at plus one thirty eight. I like that. It's a little bit of a long shot, that's why it's plus money, but kind of worth watching. And if anybody can do it, probably Scotty can do it. JJ Spahd the top five. I think he'll I think he'll hold on. In my pre tournament analytics, like when I was you know which I used with bet the number, he was my number two in my model, behind Scotty right like number two out of all fifty. So I think he hangs on. I think this golf course sets up well for him. I like Matt Fitzpatrick to rise up the leaderboard and finish in the top twenty. He's a little further down the list, but I.
00:58:06
Speaker 1: Think kind of a rough day for fifty yesterday seventy two after an opening around sixty five, yeive.
00:58:10
Speaker 3: So I think he gets it back, Yeah, not the other one. I think he gets it back and I think he gets in the top twenty, and then I like a good little parlay. Right. So these are two players a little further down the leaderboard that played well yesterday. I think they're trending in the right way. They're both outside the top, they're both inside the top twenty. I think they stay there. So they're juicy individually. But if you're combine them into a parlay top twenty, both of these to finish in the top twenty. So they both got to finish in the top twenty fore to win. Justin Thomas and cam Young. Camy Young made five birdies and no bogies yesterday. Kind of liked where his game's at, So that's minus one twenty. If you put them together, then I do like old Fatty Reid to keep climbing the leaderboard and finishing the top ten over at the next So he's in fourteenth right now. I had a good morning. They're ahead of us because they're in Scotland.
00:58:56
Speaker 1: They're in the future yep.
00:58:57
Speaker 3: And then we did give out Nellie Korda for the Canadian the cpkc Up in wherever that's.
00:59:04
Speaker 1: Up Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, home of the Elks, a big Alberta golf weekend because the Champions Tours playing in Calgary.
00:59:12
Speaker 3: Yeah, Calgary and Edmonton. We got Flames versus Oilers. I mean, you name it, we got it. But we gave out Nelly.
00:59:18
Speaker 1: Quarter Elks versus the Stampeter Stampeter.
00:59:21
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's right, Red versus Green Christmas Nelly corda top ten. I'm giving that out as the best bet here. She's also on our pre term of picks, the top five. She has a little bit of a ways to go to get back for twenty ninth right now. Yeah, but I like her right now to finish in the top ten. I think she makes a run.
00:59:37
Speaker 1: And you've set it before she teas off at noon fifteen our time.
00:59:40
Speaker 3: All right, let's have some fun with some bonus picks. Let's go. Okay, I like fun. Yeah, I'm a Rockies fan and it is hard to bet on them. Yeah, okay, so this is what I'm to lose. This is there's a degenerate gambler. This will have been devolved too, Okay. Gabriel Hughes is kind of our up and coming guy, Like call up you know up in I mean throws hard, throws strikes. His line for strikeouts today is three and a half. K's I like the over on that, and that's plus money at one thirty seven four strikeouts he throws ninety five plus. I think if he can't do that, then he shouldn't be on our Yes, correct MLS. All right, we got some soccer like world cut fever. I'm trying to keep it alive, right, Okay, the Chicago Fire drawing no bet Chicago Fire versus those New York Red Bulls. Right, we don't need those Red Bulls. They're good inn f one. We don't need them in soccer. Chicago Fire draw no bet minus one twenty five. Then the EPL, the Premier League, the premise started up. They started yesterday and then there's some games today and there's some tomorrow, So Sunday football tomorrow football Liverpool money line versus Newcastle Liverpool's pretty good. They reloaded. Now, degenerate gambling segment.
01:00:56
Speaker 1: You're not gonna do it, are you?
01:00:58
Speaker 5: So?
01:00:59
Speaker 3: Yeah, I got two of them. You're going you're going off first off NFL preseason Okay, okay, uh, the Cardinals are, They're they're over under for wins in the year, and we already gave this is under this four and a half. We already give out the under for the year. Right the Cardinals, but they are going to be pre They're gonna hang a banner preseason, the preseason they got and they have a really good quarterback room like Gardner Minshew. I mean everyone's playing uh.
01:01:26
Speaker 1: Hopefully cass future Hall of Famer after one.
01:01:30
Speaker 3: Preseason Hall of Fame Carson Beck. So I like them money line versus Cowboys. I think the Cowboys are just kind.
01:01:36
Speaker 4: Of they're They're not a preson preseason.
01:01:40
Speaker 3: They're about They're about getting into the playoffs.
01:01:42
Speaker 1: Cardinals are at home to the game.
01:01:44
Speaker 3: This is the Cardinals playoffs.
01:01:46
Speaker 1: They almost say the game teas off at seven, the game kicks off at seven.
01:01:50
Speaker 3: Either way, I like it's I mean, for the Cardinals fans, this is the time to bet on them to win and feel the joy of both of victory. And so I like them minus one eight team money line and then the ultimate degenerate gambling.
01:02:03
Speaker 1: Don't do it, Brady, don't.
01:02:05
Speaker 3: Yes, you have to dive deep to find this. By the way, they don't give out lines on the individual games yet. I think they will when it gets to like the championship. But you can bet on futures, and those futures are updating of what of what League World Series? So you California, I told you this last week on there. If you listen, Southern California has like a six five pitcher that throws like eighty miles an hour from from like forty feet. That's like throwing one hundred and ten Like this is if you extrapolated out to regular baseball stuff. So California plus two hundred to win the US Flight the US Division.
01:02:50
Speaker 4: Yes, So where do you give me this? Where are you getting this? Bet?
01:02:53
Speaker 3: Well, I'm picturing all these around DraftKings California. I had to go to the Calsey the what's that? It's kind of yes that that that yes, all that, yes that you can get them. You had to wander. I went hard to find it.
01:03:14
Speaker 4: Because I was just thinking, because he's doing this with some guy in an alley way and no he doesn't pay up, he's coming and breaking the kneecap.
01:03:21
Speaker 3: Yeah, on a Little League base World Series baseball game. Yep, I do, I do?
01:03:25
Speaker 2: I do?
01:03:25
Speaker 3: Like California plus two hundred Tacoma is good. Tacoma is good okay, and Vancouver is pretty good in the international flight, although I don't know if they're going to be Korea, but that's that's another thing. But anyway, I like I do like California. I've done so you've done some recent Listen. I'm not just throwing dollars around for no for fun. I mean we I know the roster in California that their second pitcher is pretty good. He's he's not six foot five, but he hums it too. So you know, the so Cowboys play some baseball.
01:03:58
Speaker 4: I'm speechless.
01:04:00
Speaker 3: I mean California baseball.
01:04:01
Speaker 1: It's in Billy Joel's song We're gonna have to write.
01:04:04
Speaker 3: We don't start the fire. I I California Baseball.
01:04:09
Speaker 1: I generally pride myself on segues and like, hey, you know we can.
01:04:13
Speaker 3: I don't know how to get out of this one.
01:04:14
Speaker 1: From Brady warning, this is for the degenerate gamblers out there too. If I'm respected golf responsibility.
01:04:22
Speaker 3: Responsibly check your If you have a gambling problem, call Gambler's anonymous.

Speaker 5: A true golfer, he's the best golf reporter on the planning. The President of the Golf Writers Association of America, Golf Channel, senior writer and host of the Golf Channel podcast. It's time to go Inside the Ropes Live with Rex Haggern Backspin the Golf Show.
01:05:07
Speaker 1: All right, Rex, you were at live earlier this week in Indianapolis. But before we get to that and the future of the exhibition, the Rogue League, whatever we want to call it, and your evolving comparisons to that experience, let's go back to steamy, sweaty, muggy Memphis. Last week, Scotti Scheffer putting on a show. Is he locked up the Player of the Year award with that eight stroke victory in Memphis?
01:05:35
Speaker 2: I'd better not go back to Memphis if you don't mind. Yes, I think he did lock up that award. To be honest with you, I think I can't remember it ever being like this starting out the playoffs, where you clearly had no clear cut front runner, where you had four separate candidates, and you can make an argument for all of them, and you can make an argument against all of them. I think what Scotty did last week was pretty definitive. Now that being said, it's not a pinch right now, It's not guaranteed because I look at what Wyndham Clark is doing right now in the second playoff event in Saint Louis, and he was in that conversation. He has a major championship, he has another victory and Nelton and Dallas earlier this season. If he can win this week, suddenly I think we have a conversation.
01:06:17
Speaker 1: Would Wyndham have to win this week and next week to unseat Scotty? I mean, in terms of wins, that would give him one more than Scotty, But Scotty with all those bridesmaids not a bride, all those runners up, all the Strokes gained, leading all the different stats. Does Wyndham need to win this week and next week to really make that a conversation or would maybe if it's this week just one really make that decision hard for the players that are voting, and then for you guys with the Golf Freedgers Association Award, which is presented next year in Augusta.
01:06:48
Speaker 2: I think it's a little bit different with the Player of the Year award because I'm going to separate this out and only because I think Scotty even had the leg up, he had the advantage, even slight as it might have been even before winning last week. I think I talked to Keith Mitchell on Friday afternoon last week in Memphis, and he I kind of trusted some point answers because he was sort of dancing all around like most players are doing. If funally get fine, I'll give fifty one percent of my vote to Scotty and forty nine percent to Cam Young. So I think most players were Scotty anyway, simply because of the consistencies. I mean, it was historic consistency when you look at what he did just up the finiss but the show's games number what he was able to do week in and week out. I think most players look at that, and Rory probably put it back. It depends on what you value. I think players love the idea of being consistent week in and week out, so I think Scotty would have had the advantage anyway. It could change the conversation. Yes, certainly, if Wyndham wins knitt It this week and next week, I think that pretty much gives him the award. If he wins this week and then doesn't get it done next week, I still think Scotty wins it because that's a player vote, and that's a popularity contest, and players like Scotty and I'm not quite sure every player likes wind them.
01:07:54
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and definitely not a full a lot of folks listening or watching at Best Page earlier this year, there was a lot of talk about that. But when you take a look at Scotty and his season, it's also kind of this week, right, you got Sunday Scotty dominating victory, and then that story that we've talked about time and time again. You've asked players about it, you tell you. Then you had Thursday Scotty show up and he bounced back yesterday. So kind of a microcosm of his season just in the last calendar week with Scotty having another Thursday struggle in Saint Louis.
01:08:29
Speaker 2: I think in some of that might have been he wasn't feeling great according to various reports. I don't know what he had, maybe some sort of flue bugs or something like it that he wasn't feeling great, And like look after Memphis, I think all of us well pretty much Bence, he was probably recovering a little bit. Even winning by eight strokes in that heat and those conditions, it takes a lot out of you. So I don't know. It probably is a microcosm of his season. But I would still point to last week and he did the one thing that we've sort of all looked at all year long with a little skepticism, and that was putting. He gained almost nine shots on the field, the field and strokes game putting. I think Rory put it best. If he does that, I know there's a family program, but if he does that, we're all even fill in the blanks.
01:09:08
Speaker 1: Rex. On your most recent podcast, the Golf Channel Podcast with Rex and Lab on Wednesday, you broke down the scene from Indianapolis with the base thumping in the background. For you it live Indianapolis. I believe you did the count. That was your fifth live event. How was that different from the first four that you covered in terms of kind of the feeling in the air of live and everything that has happened in the last handful of weeks.
01:09:37
Speaker 2: It was surreal, and I think just not the players, but I think everybody would have embraced it. I had someone walk up to me on the first t I was watching Bryceon and John Rohn and that group t off on Thursday afternoon, and this person introduced themselves and they said, you know, normally they're getting the crowd out here pumped up, but he sort of feel like this week is different, and it was different compared to the other four that I had covered. I clearly I didn't cover that tour. I was sort of doing that tongue in cheek, but I think it was different, certainly among the players when you spoke with him, that there's a sense of uncertainty that I don't think professional golfers are really used to, at least when it comes to their professional future. And I think there's a sense of I don't want to say for voting, because I kind of equated it to the idea that one person asked me if I was there for the funeral, and I kind of came to the conclusion, it didn't feel like a funeral and I felt like hospice though, and then the patient's not doing great, So a lot of things are going to have to fall into place. But I think depending on who you asked, there could have been a level of optimism among the players that's got the CEO of Live Golf can get something done. But I do know this, it's not going to be that version of Live Golf. It's going to be something different.
01:10:44
Speaker 3: So a big question here. I mean a lot of conjecture this week and reporting, But John Rahm is he gone?
01:10:53
Speaker 2: I don't know. I guess we hopefully we might find out Sunday night after when that last butt drops and he just comes clean and says what he wants to do. I spoke a lot of people internally ad lib and for two point zero to work what Scott O'Neal wants to create after this, they're going to need some player buy in, and I'm leaning into some player buy in. I think the words that Scott O'Neal used were critical mass of players, and when you sort of drill down, that's not every player, it's not every captain, it's not every star. For example, I think The example I was given is is Brighton d Shamba signed off and agrees that, yes, I'm all in on this. I count me in for one more year or two more years, whatever the case may be. So no, you don't need Jon Ram. And by all accounts, John Ram has actually been a full throat of supporter of what two point zero might look like. I think he's been very coy and as he should be. I mean, this is his future. He has a couple more years on his contract. But there are players who clearly are looking at and I wouldn't I wouldn't criticize any of them if if any of us were about to lose our job, of course you're going to start looking for playing speed. However, I think some britt and steel. For example, when I spoke with him on Tuesday after the player meeting, he was all in. He said, I've been with lived Off for four years. This is where I want to be, this is what I enjoy, and this is where I want to stay. Sergio Garcia, on the other hand, we asked him when his future would live is, and he gave us a very dismissive shrug, A give a will see. So I think everybody is varying shades of.
01:12:17
Speaker 1: Those two extremes when you and You've always been so great at this on so many different angles. But the new investor which has reported it's BC Partners Ted Goldthorpe, what's the connection with that firm? I guess that business that is the next Golden Goose for Live in the Future. It looks like and Bryson Deshambeau.
01:12:40
Speaker 2: Well his management team is essentially one of the subsidiaries of that group, and I think that was reported pretty early. I think BC was really quick to point out that all decisions that are made or independent of all the subsidiary. So I don't know if necessarily these two things are tied together, but if you're reading the tea leaves yes, it makes sense. It makes sense that Bryson is all in on this product, and it would make sense that someone who is in the Bryson business would want to step in because whatever the future holds for genre or surgery adversity, and we can probably take apart every single player, and each player probably has a different pathway back, a different idea of what they want to do with their future in the game. When it comes to Bryson, it's tough right now to envision how he comes back to the PGA Tour unscathed. He can. I mean, there's certainly a path, right and just look at what Patrick Greed is doing this year on the GP World Tour. But I don't see Bryson d Schambeau doing the things that Brooks kept it did this year. Where brook keptat paid is fine. He did everything the tour asked him to do. He played in essentially the Tier two events this season. He wasn't in any of the signature events. He was a good teammate, he was a good member, and I don't know that Bryson has that peer right now.
01:13:51
Speaker 7: So if you're Bryson and his team, you're trying.
01:13:54
Speaker 2: To figure out what's next, and the PGA Tour is probably not the most attractive option. So it makes sense that you're all going to circle up and decide can we make this work? And when you hear scotlaning A's plan, I think there's elements to it that yes, it could work again. It's not going to be golf, but louder that that ship has sailed, then the never ending money pit is gone, and so what you're going to have to do is do something downside, smaller, more cost effective, and see if you can make that work.
01:14:21
Speaker 4: Rex Rory was asked whether returning live players would add value to the CGA Tour right, and he's we all know, he said. I'd argue, have they brought any value to live or did players such as rom Bryson fail to create that value for live or was it just the whole format in general that was set up to fail.
01:14:41
Speaker 2: I think Lee Westwood took exception to Rory's comments and said that Rory sometimes talked without thinking, and let's push back a little bit on Lee. I think Rory it spent a lot of time thinking about that, because I've heard him talk about this firsthand, and a lot of people have talked about the idea that if they're so valuable, if the PGA Tour needs these players so much, then how come they weren't able to make live golf work with all of that money, all of those resources, over four plus years traveling the world. I think there is something to what you just said. Maybe the product was flawed, maybe the business plan was flawed, Maybe there was never a clear vision. Maybe they shouldn't have come in with the Floodchamer and I pushed back a little bit. I'm trying to ride the fence when it comes to this particular story, to be as fair as possible to live golf, because I don't know that they've gotten a fair of shape, at least not from the US media buy and large. However, now Scott O'Neil and his team want peace, they want Dayton, they want to be part of the ecosystem. That's like asking someone that you just kicked in their door if it's okay if you sit on the couch.
01:15:36
Speaker 1: Rex when you went to Indianapolis, I'm sure you have a reporter's notebook.
01:15:40
Speaker 3: You're you're louder.
01:15:41
Speaker 1: Yeah, it was it golf the louder. No, I'm sure you went in. You had a bunch of questions. What were the questions that were answered, what were the new questions that popped up? And what questions remain unanswered for you when it comes to this endeavor of live golf.
01:15:58
Speaker 2: I think most of the questions remain unanswered. We don't even officially know that that partner's believes investor is who you say is, although I saw him walk out of the clubhouse after a player meeting which is just yes, all of those reports are true. I guess I want to know exactly what two point zero might look like. I want to know what Scott and Neils his team have to do to get the lead investor to go from essentially a term sheet which I had to look up. I didn't know what that was, to a definitive deal. I wanted to know what is that critical mass of players? Give me an idea of exactly who you need to have comeback. Does it have to be the captain of every team? Does it have to be every star? I think there's some still some questions there. What exactly two point zero mont look like. It's going to be ten events and what part of the schedule is it going to be played in? And it's clear that the existing ecosystem is not going to help out. We've seen it now. The DP World Tour is pretty much announced that the pathway that they created this year for players to essentially play both without fines or releases will not be applied next year. And that's a direct shot at LIPCOFF. They did not want them to have the ability to play those ten events and to play whatever they want on the European tour. Also, I think the world ranking has got a factor into this. I did be quite frank. I left Indianapolis with an empty notebook and more questions and answers.
01:17:09
Speaker 1: An empty notebook and more questions than answers. I think that says a lot. Andrew mentioned Rory's comments Scotty Scheffler had a different tone, essentially saying he wanted those players back from competition, Scotty being a good soldier, or do we take something more? Can we project that into the future. You know, that's a split among the top two players on the PGA Tour in terms of the way they're looking at things. So what does that tell you about the the reintegration conversation and how that would actually go with welcoming maybe it's not Bryson but a John Rahm, a Tyrol Hatton with welcoming or finding a way, carving a pathway for players back to the PGA tour. Just the fact that it seems like Rory and Scotty are not on the same page.
01:17:52
Speaker 2: I think improves that Brian roll Out, the CEO the PGA Tour, cannot find a consensus on this, and then he's going to have to rule as a dictator, but not l ad dictator. But he's going to just have to make a choice and live with the consequences because there isn't going to be a popular decision if he goes ahead and creates that expedited pathway back then he gave to Brooks Kepka earlier. This year, there's going to be a lot of pushbacks as players who did remain loyal are not going to like it.
01:18:15
Speaker 7: For a lot of different reasons.
01:18:16
Speaker 2: Maybe they have offers some live golf and they remain quote unquote loyal to the PGA Tour. I think there's also a selfish element to this, which is perfectly understandable. That if you're a player right now on the PGGA Tour and you think about some of those players coming back to John Rahms, the Bryson's, whoever else you want to mention, suddenly you're looking at your own competitive mortality as well, because you know what's going to happen in twenty twenty eight. It's only going to get harder to keep what you kill. It's only going to get harder to keep your PGA Tour card. Now you're going to add a half dozen to a dozen World class players back into the mix. It's tough to get a player to ignore their own personal flight in all of this and be like, yes, what's best for the tour. I actually go along with that. So there is going to be no consensus and roll Up is going to have to make some tough decisions. I do think that the tour would be better off if it did find a way to bring John Rohm back. I just don't think he could do it in an expedited way like they did with Brooks.
01:19:09
Speaker 1: What does the timeline look moving forward? Are we talking months, weeks, days? You had already alluded to when that putt drops tomorrow and they conclude their season whatever Live one point zero ends up being, but that concludes tomorrow. What does the timeline look like moving forward?
01:19:27
Speaker 2: Compressed? That's what's cutter. Neil told me. It's impressed timeline Again. That notebook was fair, Mike, and when I left that when I left Indianapolis, there was not much in that notebook at all. I will say for talking weeks, not months, I mean clearly before the end of the year, and you probably have to do something before that. On the other side of it, talking with those on the player side, there is no rush when it comes to the players. And here's why. Whenever that last put drops on Sunday, every player on livgoff is facing a twelve month suspension by the PGA Tour and the clock is starting and there's nothing they can do to speed that up. That's going to be in Brian Rolapp's lap. Essentially, he's going to have to decide, so they're not in any rush on that front. Also, a handful of players who hold membership on the DP World for where they have until November, so there's no rush there either from the player perspective. They can kind of sit back to make a decision. So that's why I don't expect John rom or anyone else to announce on Sunday evening. Okay, I've got something to say about this. I will say though, one of the most interesting parts was talking with players. How many of them sort of pated me on the back and said, we'll talk on Sunday night.
01:20:30
Speaker 7: So maybe I'm wrong, okay.
01:20:32
Speaker 1: And what do you think we learn in terms of this time I'm moving forward in a couple of days. Brian Rolapp meets with the media every year. Obviously he does it in you know in Connecticut earlier in the year, but then at east Lake he will be in a press conference just like you were the other day with Scott O'Neil and live. What if at all do you think, Brian Rolapp, I'm sure you have questions for him, but what do you think happens in terms of the PGA Tour side of things? Does anything happen in at room on I believe it is Tuesday or Wednesday this week at east Lake.
01:21:05
Speaker 2: It's too good ten am Eastern time from He's like, please, student, I'll be on golf today. We'll be covering it. I think Ryan Lader will be on the ground. He'll be the one asking all the questions. He's not going to address lift golf because I will give him credit, he has remained constant on this front, and he hasn't allowed the Heros team to be distracted by liftoff. And he has the upper hands in this situation because the Public Investment funds essentially I'm not essentially the Public Investment fund has pulled out, so he doesn't need to make any decision on Tuesday. My anticipation from what I've heard, he's going to sort of outline with the playoffs are going to look like starting in twenty twenty eight when they go to this new competitive model, maybe two playoff events, and we've talked about going to these electronic venues, and they're talking about maybe adding mass play to it. So I think we get some clarity there, and it's we've seen the steady trickle of tournaments announcing that they're going to be part of the Championship Series in twenty twenty eight, and my guess is that continues over the next weeks and months.
01:22:00
Speaker 1: In the NFL, there's kind of an unwritten rule, you know, a handshake agreement from owners that Okay, don't do anything, don't sign anybody, don't trade anybody, don't do anything to steal the spotlight from the super Bowl in the weeks leading up to our biggest event. Is there something like that in the PGA in terms of you know, you as a reporter, you know, going in and you mentioned Ryan lavanill be in the room, you're on the desk, I presume, But is there kind of is theren instruction from the PGA that hey, we're not talking about live going into this, We're focused on, you know, on control the controllables. We're going to talk about our schedule, and that is there is there kind of any kind of you know, ruling, you know, advice, you know, and direction from the PGA in terms of, hey, we're not going to talk about this this week.
01:22:50
Speaker 2: No, No, I don't imagine he would. Again, he's been pretty consistent when it comes to live golf and sort of just staying out of it, to be quite frankly, the only because he says.
01:22:58
Speaker 7: Focused and I to believe this is laser focused on the PGA Tour and.
01:23:02
Speaker 2: Creating this new competitive model. But absolutely not. I mean, there's there aren't any rules going into these press conferences. The people that are in these press conference, including the lab and asked whatever they like. And again I don't anticipate him saying anything, not because he feels like he would take the spotlight away from the Tour Championship, the big finale, only because he hasn't said anything all along since the second he took the job last year at the Travelers Championship, he has been very indifferent when it came to live golf, and actually Scott O'Neil was asked if he's had any conversations last week with Ryan rollapp and he was pretty dismissive all of the idea, although I do believe that those two have had conversations along the way, and it's just where he's at right now. I think maybe when we get to a point this time next year, maybe when the new competitive model is in place and we know exactly what twenty eight is going to look like, maybe at that point he decides to sit down and tries to come up with some sort of solution that works for both sides. But not right now.
01:23:52
Speaker 1: So when you take a look at what's going on right now the BMW Championship in Saint Louis, all eyes are on the Clark at the top, but a lot of folks are focused on the top thirty cutdown that make it to East Lake. And there's a lot that goes with that as well. Right you make the top thirty, you're in the majors, two year tour cards two years. Let's do the math twenty twenty eight, the new tier system still being worked out. Where's the uncertainty baked into kind of what that exemption actually buys players moving forward? Right now? In terms of okay, great, you get a top thirty, but things are going to look a lot different the year after next.
01:24:30
Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think there's any certain whatsoever. And I was having this conversation with the Pauls on their show on XM Radio PGA Tour Network, and those two players, former players, they know the priority system better than anyone else. But I did have to laugh. Right now, the convoluted vision team priority system, which essentially creates fields on the PGA to or has thirty eight different priority categories, thirty eight. My guess is byan rollop stream is to cut that to single digits, somewhere closer to five or six. To your point, you're not going to have these multi year exemptions. So to win the FedEx Cup this year, to make it to the Tour Championship, yes, it'll probably a two year exemption, and you're looking ahead to twenty twenty eight.
01:25:10
Speaker 7: But I would not bank on that exemption.
01:25:12
Speaker 2: Being into two one events. I don't think that's what he's trying to create. And there's a lot of those sort of loopholes for lack of a better term, and I think players are going to watch go away. I think this will come down to either your top ninety at the end of twenty twenty seven to get into those two one events or your top or you're just going to have to play your in via the tier two events.
01:25:31
Speaker 3: Great word Byzantine.
01:25:33
Speaker 1: I like that. That's good. I have to google that.
01:25:35
Speaker 3: That's a Roman Empire reference.
01:25:37
Speaker 1: I think, okay, there you go.
01:25:38
Speaker 3: Great word. Right, we all got smarter.
01:25:41
Speaker 1: How many times a day do you think about the Roman Empire?
01:25:43
Speaker 3: Great that? Now?
01:25:45
Speaker 1: Right now, hey Rex, taking a look back at BMW Windhams at the top leaderboard. He's played excellent golf, Scottie Is it seems like always in it, even if he's not in the top ten or top twenty. Right now he's two under three ten and you know, tied for fifteenth. Who do you think ends up with the victory this week at the BMW playing in you know, five and a half inch rough if the if they don't avoid or if they don't avoid it.
01:26:16
Speaker 2: I'm largely doubted Wyndham Clark throughout his entire career, and I think that's over. I think what he did this year at the US so but not just to win the US Open, to do it under those circumstances which walking with that group, I don't know that anyone outside of a Rotta Cup has been under that sort of scrutiny from a fan base trying to win a tournament. So I think Wyndham gets a dominate to create an interesting conversation next week for that player to year conversation that we had.
01:26:40
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, Wyndam, you know he could win this thing, I think and you I've pointed this out to you, and you know this, Rex, You'll forever be tied to Gary Woodland, who's solo second right now. A couple of great rounds for Gary, a Kansas guy, there's a lot of support for him in Saint Louis and him making it to next week right now, he was on the outside looking in, walked into the number thirty one player. Looks like he's going to play his way to East Lake and continue an amazing season. In terms of just the human story that you helped.
01:27:06
Speaker 2: Tell, I don't know, yeah, I don't know that there's a better feel good story. And it's sort of a weird situation here because the DGA short had the Courage Awards, as Golf Fighters of America, we had the Hogan Award, and so all of these are short of focused on exactly what Gary is doing overcoming which is really really difficult to wrap your mind around the situation where you had brain surgery and it led to coming down with about the PTSD, which I can only imagine how difficult that is to play professional golf.
01:27:31
Speaker 7: He don won those awards, so I'm not quite sure what we're going to.
01:27:34
Speaker 2: Have to come up with after this season, because it has been an amazing run for Gary. And I was having this conversation with Paul casey caddy last week to Paul Casey's caddy has kind of gone through similar struggles the last couple of years, and I was telling them that, you know, reach out to Gary like it was an amazing experience because I remember student down with Gary at the Players Championship to do that interview and I couldn't, for the life of me, understand what he was trying to accomplish. And I've never really I would never try to talk to someone out of doing an interview, but I did ask him, are.
01:28:00
Speaker 7: You sure this is what you want? And he tried to explain to me.
01:28:03
Speaker 2: In the moment, I didn't get it. Now I get it that he just needed to get off his checked. He needed to let the.
01:28:08
Speaker 7: World know that.
01:28:09
Speaker 2: Hey, man, I'm not okay. I'm dealing with some stuff, but I'm going to carry on.
01:28:14
Speaker 3: We made some beerria tacos last night at the Wilson House. What's on the menu tonight at the Hoggard House.
01:28:22
Speaker 2: I'm just doing a great chicken because after the last two weeks, I don't know if you know, Indianapolis also had some really good barbecues, So I'm pretty much barbecued out after Memphis and Indianapolis. And my doctor is going to kill me if I don't get a helping niling me soon.
01:28:34
Speaker 3: All right, there, I like it.
01:28:36
Speaker 1: I for our listeners, if you were listening last week, Rex talked about the fried Boloney sandwich and sent me. He texted me a picture after the show of the of the plate that he had with the fried bloney sandwich from the commissary in Memphis, and man, that looked good. Rex. We appreciate your time and you and your culinary insight, in addition to all of the tremendous golf insight you provide. Always good to catch up with you. We'll talk to you next week from East Lake.
01:29:03
Speaker 2: Boys. There you go.
01:29:04
Speaker 1: That's Rex Hoggard follow him on the Twitter machine x at Rex Haggard GC, but check out his great work on the Golf Channel. As he mentioned, he's going to be there at East like Ryan Lavn will be in the room, he'll be on the desk. He's covering the final event of the playoff playoffs for the PGA Tour season. It keeps going after that. You know, there's more events, but not the playoffs, And it'll be interesting to see what we hear from Brian Rolapp and I like Rex saying, you know, hey, they're focused on PGA Tour. Yeah, there's a lot of questions to answer about the scheduling moving forward and what the structure of this tour looks like. And you know, we're kind of seeing that play out a little bit here with Okay, if you make the top fifty, you're in the signature events next year. If you make the top thirty, you're in the majors next year. You get a two year exception. But what does that mean when everything changes.
01:29:54
Speaker 3: In the future.
01:29:55
Speaker 1: Great, you've got a tour card for the next two years, but you might be on the Challengers Tour.
01:30:00
Speaker 4: It makes no sense to me.
01:30:01
Speaker 1: Yeah, But and and we'll we'll learn more. On Tuesday, you said ten eastern, so let me just seven time.
01:30:08
Speaker 3: You're the player of the year. Conversation still still going. Speaking of which, Speaking of which, Scotty won last week.

And this guy in his mid forties just adding distance in club speed. It's amazing what Gary Woodland's doing bombing it and he is right there on Windham's heels at the BMW Championship. But it's your chance to pick a winner for the Tour Championship next week. Tommy Fleetwood off the board by John in Gilbert. The Santan Village location over on the east side and the way it works for Beat the Pro the money in the pot goes up fifty dollars each week. We had a winner last week, so they cleared out the pot. 01:33:00
Speaker 4: Margy Ritchie bella Reevelast hosted the BMW event in two thousand and eight. Who is the only player in the field that is playing currently okay that also played in two thousand and eight. There's only one person.
01:33:12
Speaker 1: Okay, and he also he also played very well there for the PGA Championship back in twenty eighteen, uh finishing top three the Bubble Watch.
01:33:21
Speaker 3: He's all in the Bubble Watch for the top thirty, which is not.
01:33:23
Speaker 1: The Bubble Watch. That's different. He plays on a different tour the Bubble Watch. Does he really play? But yeah, that's it'll be interesting. East Lake is on tap. We're gonna hear from Brian Rolapp during the course of the week eight five, five, two six zero ninety one ninety one is how we hear from you.
I'm waving to the camera right now on YouTube as we are streaming live on YouTube and Facebook. Find us Backspin Golf Show on Instagram. Coming up next segment, Rex Hoggard gonna join us. And not just Rex Hoggard, PGA Tour Insider, best reporter on the planet, but Rex Hoggard was on the ground in Indianapolis in the room with Scott O'Neil press conference earlier this week, talked to a bunch of players on the course on the record and off the record about the few future of live and look really looking forward to catching up with Rex Hoggard.

01:28:00

01:28:08
Speaker 7: World know that.
