00:01:36.719 --> 00:01:52.000
I have come to understand that I am a part of God, that I'm not separate, Mernon, from God, neither are you, neither are any of us, that there is no such thing as separation from God.
00:01:52.239 --> 00:02:04.319
I have come to understand through my conversations with God that every soul in the universe is an individuation of divinity.
00:02:06.319 --> 00:02:10.800
We are each, if I could use a metaphor, fingers on the hands of God.
00:02:12.479 --> 00:02:16.639
So we're not identical, but we're not separate from each other.
00:02:16.800 --> 00:02:20.000
We are all one part of the same body.
00:02:20.479 --> 00:02:39.039
So when I move to a place in my life where I could embrace the notion, embrace the truth that I am connected to and one with the divine, then I began to ask myself, then what am I doing here?
00:02:39.280 --> 00:02:57.759
If I really am, if my soul really is an individual expression of the divine, why in the world would it come to this realm of physical expression where there's so much suffering and anxiety and fear and where there's so much negativity?
00:02:57.919 --> 00:02:59.360
There are nice things, of course.
00:02:59.439 --> 00:03:02.719
There are wonderful parts of this world, no question.
00:03:03.199 --> 00:03:07.280
But why would I come to this place where there's so much negativity?
00:03:07.919 --> 00:03:11.520
And if I really am an individual expression of God.
00:03:11.680 --> 00:03:18.400
And that caused me, Myrna, to explore what the French would call my raison d'ître.
00:03:19.759 --> 00:03:22.560
Welcome to the Transform Your Mind podcast.
00:03:22.719 --> 00:03:31.120
I'm your host, Life Coach Myrnie Young, and today's guest is someone whose work has influenced millions of people around the world.
00:03:31.360 --> 00:03:35.120
I'm speaking to the one and only Neil Donald Walsh.
00:03:35.439 --> 00:03:50.960
He is a New York Times bestselling author of the Conversation with God series, translating in over 37 languages, and widely regarded as one of the most influential spiritual books of our time.
00:03:51.360 --> 00:04:07.599
His newest book, Letters to a Young Seeker, Departing Thoughts from an Elder, is a collection of 21 heartfelt letters offering timeless wisdom for navigating life with greater peace, purpose, and self-awareness.
00:04:07.840 --> 00:04:20.240
Each letter is paired with a beautiful poem by his wife, award-winning poet Emma Clare, creating a unique blend of spiritual insight and emotional resonance.
00:04:20.480 --> 00:04:33.439
In today's conversation, we'll explore what Neil has learned after decades of seeking, teaching, and living, and how these lessons can help us transform our minds and lives.
00:04:33.759 --> 00:04:36.399
Neil is also a returning guest.
00:04:36.560 --> 00:04:40.079
So, Neil, welcome back to the Transforming Mind Podcast.
00:04:40.399 --> 00:04:41.279
Thank you, Myrna.
00:04:41.439 --> 00:04:42.720
It's lovely to be here with you.
00:04:42.800 --> 00:04:45.680
I always enjoyed the time I spend with you.
00:04:45.839 --> 00:04:47.360
How can I serve you?
00:04:47.759 --> 00:04:49.360
Oh, thank you, Neil.
00:04:49.759 --> 00:04:50.720
Yes, yes.
00:04:50.879 --> 00:04:58.079
We had a fabulous conversation last time, and you even asked me a question that caused me great consternation.
00:04:59.120 --> 00:05:04.240
But today we're today we're gonna stay off of dangerous ground.
00:05:04.560 --> 00:05:12.879
So yes, you can serve me by, you know, one of the first question I have here is about your subtitle.
00:05:13.120 --> 00:05:17.519
Your subtitle is Departing Thoughts from an Elder.
00:05:17.759 --> 00:05:21.360
You know, that shows quiet humility in those words.
00:05:21.519 --> 00:05:31.439
So when you look back over your what your life, Neil, not just your successes, but your mistakes and suffering, what truth took you the longest to learn?
00:05:31.600 --> 00:05:35.759
And why do you think human beings resist that lesson?
00:05:37.360 --> 00:05:41.279
I think the truth that it took me the longest to learn.
00:05:42.079 --> 00:05:44.720
And by the way, it was an interesting question.
00:05:46.160 --> 00:05:55.120
The truth that it took me the longest to learn was that when God said to me, Neil, your life is not about you.
00:05:56.480 --> 00:05:58.720
Your life has nothing to do with you.
00:05:59.680 --> 00:06:06.079
It's about everyone whose life you touch and the way in which you touch it.
00:06:07.839 --> 00:06:21.040
When you learn to live your life in that way, you discover that in in the universal sense, cosmically speaking, your life is about you for an elegant reason.
00:06:22.480 --> 00:06:24.720
There's nobody else in the room.
00:06:25.920 --> 00:06:28.319
There's only one of us in the room.
00:06:29.279 --> 00:06:32.560
We are all one.
00:06:34.720 --> 00:06:40.160
And that's the biggest lesson that I learned in my conversations with God.
00:06:40.639 --> 00:06:43.839
We are all one.
00:06:44.879 --> 00:06:47.360
Even those with whom I disagree.
00:06:47.839 --> 00:06:49.759
I am one with them.
00:06:50.560 --> 00:06:54.560
And I've learned to embrace that awareness.
00:06:55.040 --> 00:07:01.360
When I've come to be aware that I'm also one with myself.
00:07:02.800 --> 00:07:08.480
Even when I disagree with myself, when I disagree with things that I've said or that I've done.
00:07:08.639 --> 00:07:15.040
Yeah, we've all we've all said things, and the moment after we said it, we wondered, why in the world did I say that?
00:07:15.360 --> 00:07:16.319
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:07:16.879 --> 00:07:26.480
Or or or we look back on our lives, as I have done uh frequently and ask myself, don't why in the world did I do that?
00:07:27.680 --> 00:07:34.240
I I I'll I'll confess to you 55, 60 years ago.
00:07:35.120 --> 00:07:41.199
65 years ago, I had an affair in my first wife.
00:07:45.279 --> 00:07:52.560
Well, it wasn't a it wasn't a long-term, you know, two-year-long interest, but it was just a simple, you know, a little fling.
00:07:52.720 --> 00:07:56.639
But you know, what the hell was I thinking when I look back on it?
00:07:58.079 --> 00:08:04.879
My first wife was one of the most wonderful people you've ever wanted to meet in your life.
00:08:05.120 --> 00:08:10.639
She's gone to her eternal reward now, and she's been gone now for quite a few years.
00:08:10.959 --> 00:08:21.279
But when I think back up to time was when I realized she was one of the sweetest, most wonderful people I've ever known in my life.
00:08:21.439 --> 00:08:27.279
Why in the world would I betray her in that way?
00:08:27.439 --> 00:08:30.639
I mean, come on, Neil, grow the hell up.
00:08:32.080 --> 00:08:38.639
So I so I've I I learned that my life is not about me.
00:08:38.799 --> 00:08:43.039
It's about everyone whose life I touch and the way in which I touch it.
00:08:43.360 --> 00:08:51.679
I want to round out that story that I told you though, Luna, so that you your listeners don't feel hanging on the edge of that.
00:08:52.080 --> 00:09:02.240
When my first wife, the mother of my first two children, I have nine children, she was the the mother of my first two children.
00:09:03.120 --> 00:09:07.919
When she passed away, she was lying on the couch in my daughter's home.
00:09:08.480 --> 00:09:09.360
I was there.
00:09:09.600 --> 00:09:16.559
My daughter invited me to come over because she knew that her mom had very few minutes left.
00:09:16.879 --> 00:09:18.320
And I came over.
00:09:19.919 --> 00:09:26.799
And I said to my first wife, who was leaving the planet and knew that she was.
00:09:27.679 --> 00:09:29.919
I said, sweetheart, I'm so sorry.
00:09:30.720 --> 00:09:34.960
There's nothing that I can do or say that can erase the betrayal.
00:09:35.120 --> 00:09:40.399
I'm so so so sorry that I did what I did when I was what the hell was I thinking?
00:09:40.480 --> 00:09:42.080
I was 22 years old.
00:09:43.679 --> 00:09:45.840
And you know what my dying wife did?
00:09:46.000 --> 00:09:59.039
She reached out and took all the strength she had lying on the couch, held my hand, and she said, sweetheart, I forgave you for that 50 years ago.
00:09:59.440 --> 00:09:59.840
Yeah.
00:10:00.639 --> 00:10:01.759
Let it go.
00:10:02.480 --> 00:10:03.679
Let it go.
00:10:05.840 --> 00:10:07.840
We all make mistakes.
00:10:09.679 --> 00:10:10.960
Yeah, yeah, you know.
00:10:11.360 --> 00:10:16.879
That's the kind of woman she was that would say something like that to me in her final words.
00:10:17.919 --> 00:10:19.600
Well, you needed that, Release.
00:10:19.679 --> 00:10:20.879
You did, you did.
00:10:21.360 --> 00:10:22.000
Yes.
00:10:22.399 --> 00:10:22.879
You needed that.
00:10:23.440 --> 00:10:29.519
But for her, for her to go to that place knowing that you know she was dying.
00:10:30.399 --> 00:10:35.039
Just demonstrated the kind of person she was all of her whole life.
00:10:35.440 --> 00:10:35.919
Yeah.
00:10:36.480 --> 00:10:39.120
Well, you know, men have affairs that they don't think about it.
00:10:39.279 --> 00:10:44.559
I heard someone say to me once that men only think with their little heads, they don't think with their big heads.
00:10:44.799 --> 00:10:56.639
So, you know, the men on this listening here that that that that probably had an affair either with their wife or girlfriends, they can understand what made you do it because you actually don't think.
00:10:57.360 --> 00:11:14.000
But um, but I I was listening to you on another podcast recently, and you said something about um love that it took you a long time to learn that love is not a transaction.
00:11:14.159 --> 00:11:29.600
So talk about that because that was beautiful, like and and and you know, you said that you've been through it took you until this current marriage to understand that with your current wife, and you had several of them.
00:11:29.759 --> 00:11:38.559
I'm gonna not gonna say the number, but you said you had several of them, and it took you until this last one to learn the lesson about love.
00:11:38.720 --> 00:11:39.919
Can you share that?
00:11:40.480 --> 00:11:41.919
Well, Myrna, I'd love to.
00:11:42.240 --> 00:11:46.080
Uh I was taught as a child.
00:11:47.679 --> 00:11:51.360
I was raised in a worldwide religion.
00:11:51.600 --> 00:11:57.440
My my parents sent me to a to a school that was sponsored by the by the church.
00:11:58.240 --> 00:12:08.960
So I was taught in third grade that God's love for us is a transaction, like a trade deal between nations.
00:12:09.200 --> 00:12:15.679
In other words, you do for me what I need you to do for me, and I'll give you what you want for me to give you.
00:12:15.840 --> 00:12:22.879
And if you don't do for me what I need you to do for me, then I will not give to you what you want to get from me.
00:12:23.919 --> 00:12:37.679
And I was and and I learned that, you know, I would have put it in those words when I was nine years old, but as I grew older, I realized, oh people think that God's love is a transaction.
00:12:38.399 --> 00:12:40.000
It's an arrangement.
00:12:40.320 --> 00:12:43.279
You know, I'll give you what you want if you give me what I want.
00:12:44.240 --> 00:12:53.440
And then when I had my conversations with God, I came to understand, oh, God's love is not a transaction.
00:12:54.080 --> 00:13:00.559
God's love is unconditional, unending, and unlimited.
00:13:01.440 --> 00:13:14.559
God doesn't say I love you if God says I love you even if even if you do things that I would never prove to.
00:13:15.279 --> 00:13:16.720
I still love you.
00:13:17.279 --> 00:13:28.480
And then God taught me about pure love, which as you just mentioned in a moment ago, I finally learned all about in my most recent marriage.
00:13:28.559 --> 00:13:30.960
I've been married, I mean, three times.
00:13:31.120 --> 00:13:33.360
No, wait, no, no, I've been married four times.
00:13:33.519 --> 00:13:36.399
And so I've been no no, I'm sorry, I've been married five times.
00:13:36.639 --> 00:13:39.360
But I said, no, wait a minute, how many times have I been married?
00:13:39.440 --> 00:13:43.759
What how many times have I been married?
00:13:44.559 --> 00:13:51.360
Seven times, not seven lady friends, seven marriages with ring on their finger?
00:13:52.320 --> 00:13:53.600
Wow, okay.
00:13:53.679 --> 00:13:55.679
I'm not I'm not bragging about that.
00:13:55.840 --> 00:14:01.600
That's just another uh demonstration of how little I understood about life.
00:14:01.919 --> 00:14:11.039
But finally, I came to understand with the lady that I've been with now for the last 18 years, which for me is a record.
00:14:11.200 --> 00:14:12.480
I can't even imagine.
00:14:12.720 --> 00:14:13.519
I know, right?
00:14:14.080 --> 00:14:18.480
Being with one person for 18 years, but she's an angel.
00:14:18.559 --> 00:14:27.200
And but I've learned that I can love her, and for that matter, learn out all people the way God loves me.
00:14:27.600 --> 00:14:30.000
Without condition, without limitation.
00:14:31.279 --> 00:14:34.159
And and it's not a transaction.
00:14:34.399 --> 00:14:50.399
So I I don't have to say to my to my wife, I love you if I so now I can turn to her and say to her, I love you, sweetheart.
00:14:51.279 --> 00:14:53.919
No matter what.
00:14:54.720 --> 00:14:55.279
Yeah.
00:14:55.519 --> 00:14:56.879
That's pure love.
00:14:57.039 --> 00:15:02.159
That's my my new understanding, my new definition of pure love.
00:15:02.639 --> 00:15:04.879
I love you no matter what.
00:15:05.039 --> 00:15:06.720
This is not a transaction.
00:15:07.200 --> 00:15:09.039
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:15:09.279 --> 00:15:13.200
And you know, I'm um, yes, I've been to that same place.
00:15:13.360 --> 00:15:16.240
Um, I was married several times myself.
00:15:16.480 --> 00:15:18.960
And, you know, I heard you talk about expectations.
00:15:19.039 --> 00:15:25.120
And when you go into expectations in a marriage, that's what ruins the marriage, or what, you know.
00:15:25.360 --> 00:15:33.519
Um, and you talk about um when you met your wife, how you knew you said, oh no, here we go again.
00:15:34.559 --> 00:15:39.519
And I had the same, I had the same response when I met my current husband.
00:15:39.679 --> 00:15:41.759
So we've been married for 20 years.
00:15:42.000 --> 00:15:52.559
So um, but yeah, this relationship allowed me to understand pure unconditional love to someone that's not my child.
00:15:52.799 --> 00:15:54.639
So yes, I understand.
00:15:54.720 --> 00:16:03.519
Um, and you also talk about, you know, women and mothers come close to this understanding of the unconditional love.
00:16:03.600 --> 00:16:20.960
But yeah, so that is that is that is a truth that, you know, both of us, you know, um took a long time to learn, is that yes, um loving people, even how I how I do the the the the show.
00:16:21.039 --> 00:16:27.279
I mean, I come on, you know, and I ask guests to do certain things and and a lot of them don't do it.
00:16:27.440 --> 00:16:32.080
And um, but I still come from the space of I love them.
00:16:32.240 --> 00:16:47.039
It's pure guests, you know, it's it's it's the purity of my love with this platform that I have to help people to be their best self or to share their work to the world, which is why podcasts are doing it.
00:16:47.120 --> 00:16:56.960
So even though I would like it to be a transaction, when it's not a transaction, it's okay because I'm doing what I need to do and they're doing what they need to do.
00:16:57.120 --> 00:17:05.519
So it's a good lesson that um, you know, it's not about a transaction, it is about giving without expecting anything.
00:17:05.839 --> 00:17:14.400
So you're telling me that as a guest on your program, it's okay with you if I don't do what you asked me to do.
00:17:15.200 --> 00:17:15.839
Yeah.
00:17:16.480 --> 00:17:17.119
Wow.
00:17:17.759 --> 00:17:23.839
It is you're making faces.
00:17:24.000 --> 00:17:26.160
I mean, I don't like it, but it's okay.
00:17:26.319 --> 00:17:28.240
I've actually, trust me, I've been there.
00:17:28.319 --> 00:17:29.279
I it's okay.
00:17:29.440 --> 00:17:31.200
It's okay, you know.
00:17:31.440 --> 00:17:38.000
Um yeah, so we all learn, right?
00:17:38.079 --> 00:17:39.279
So it's amazing.
00:17:39.599 --> 00:17:45.599
All right, so um much of your work centers around the conversations that we have with God.
00:17:45.839 --> 00:17:51.039
But before we can hear that voice, we're often trapped by conversations with ourselves.
00:17:51.279 --> 00:17:57.279
So, how can someone recognize when the voice in their head comes from fear rather than wisdom?
00:17:57.440 --> 00:18:14.000
And I learned um a long time ago that you've got like five voices in your head, and you've got to discern which one is God or spirit or your angels, and which one is fair, or maybe your mind repeating something back to you.
00:18:14.160 --> 00:18:20.000
So, how did you how did you learn to distinguish the voices in your head?
00:18:20.319 --> 00:18:33.279
Well, you know, Myrna, when when I heard the voice of God, it always spoke in ways that consisted of certain energies: freedom, joy, and love.
00:18:34.240 --> 00:18:44.400
No limitation of any kind, no requirement of any kind, no necessity of any kind, just freedom, joy, and love.
00:18:44.960 --> 00:18:55.519
So when I have thoughts that go through my mind these days, if it doesn't feel like freedom, joy, and love, I simply dismiss the thought.
00:18:56.160 --> 00:19:00.160
I I I literally put it, you know how they say put it out of your mind.
00:19:00.400 --> 00:19:02.559
I literally put it out of my mind.
00:19:02.799 --> 00:19:17.119
And I refuse to allow myself to struggle with or maintain for more than a moment or two any thought that does not consist of freedom, joy, and love.
00:19:18.079 --> 00:19:20.799
And so for me, that's my that's my definition.
00:19:21.680 --> 00:19:29.359
Yeah, so that's how you can, you know, because you're right, if it's if it's coming from fear, um, you know it's not God, right?
00:19:29.599 --> 00:19:32.480
So um, yeah, freedom, joy, and love.
00:19:32.559 --> 00:19:35.759
So that's that's um, you know, let me explain.
00:19:35.839 --> 00:19:38.960
And I'd like to explain why I know it's not coming from God.
00:19:51.839 --> 00:19:57.839

00:21:51.519 --> 00:21:59.359
That is M Y H E L P S dot U S slash P A R T N E R.
00:22:01.119 --> 00:22:02.640
If it contains fear.
00:22:02.880 --> 00:22:03.200
Okay.
00:22:03.680 --> 00:22:09.440
Because I have come to understand that I am a part of God.
00:22:10.240 --> 00:22:12.720
That I'm not separate, Myrna, from God.
00:22:12.880 --> 00:22:15.200
Neither are you, neither are any of us.
00:22:15.440 --> 00:22:19.359
That there is no such thing as separation from God.
00:22:19.599 --> 00:22:31.680
I have come to understand through my conversations with God that every soul in the universe is an individuation of divinity.
00:22:33.680 --> 00:22:38.160
We are each, if I could use a metaphor, fingers on the hands of God.
00:22:39.839 --> 00:22:44.000
So we're not identical, but we're not separate from each other.
00:22:44.160 --> 00:22:47.119
We are all one part of the same body.
00:22:47.920 --> 00:23:02.079
So when I move to a place in my life where I could embrace the notion, embrace the truth that I am connected to and one with the divine.
00:23:03.440 --> 00:23:06.319
Then I began to ask myself, then what am I doing here?
00:23:06.640 --> 00:23:25.119
If I really am, if my soul really is an individual expression of the divine, why in the world would it come to this realm of physical expression where there's so much suffering and anxiety and fear, and where there's so much negativity?
00:23:25.279 --> 00:23:26.720
There are nice things, of course.
00:23:26.799 --> 00:23:30.160
There are wonderful parts of this world, no question.
00:23:30.480 --> 00:23:34.640
But why would I come to this place where there's so much negativity?
00:23:35.279 --> 00:23:38.880
And if I really am an individual expression of God.
00:23:39.039 --> 00:23:45.920
And that caused me, Myrna, to explore what the French would call my raison d'étres.
00:23:46.559 --> 00:23:48.079
My reason for being.
00:23:52.640 --> 00:23:54.000
Why am I here?
00:23:55.200 --> 00:23:57.920
And so I I asked God that question.
00:23:58.160 --> 00:24:00.880
Please, just just tell me the rules.
00:24:01.119 --> 00:24:04.640
I'll play, I'll play this silly game called life.
00:24:04.799 --> 00:24:07.119
Just just give me the rule book.
00:24:07.759 --> 00:24:09.839
Explain to me what I'm doing here.
00:24:11.200 --> 00:24:14.960
God said, sweetheart, it's so simple.
00:24:16.559 --> 00:24:19.440
You've come to the realm of the physical.
00:24:20.160 --> 00:24:30.079
Because in that realm there is a contextual field that contains all that you are and all that you are not.
00:24:32.960 --> 00:24:41.920
When you're in heaven, when you're in the spiritual realm, there's nothing there that you are not, because all it contains is freedom, joy, and love.
00:24:43.200 --> 00:24:44.480
It really is paradise.
00:24:44.559 --> 00:24:46.160
That's why it's called heaven.
00:24:47.200 --> 00:24:52.160
But you come to the physical realm because in the physical realm there is that which you are not.
00:24:52.400 --> 00:24:56.319
There is the opposite of what you what you are.
00:24:57.359 --> 00:24:59.759
And I said to God, but but why?
00:25:01.039 --> 00:25:04.400
I get that there's the opposite of what I am, but why?
00:25:04.640 --> 00:25:06.559
Why does it have to be that way?
00:25:07.200 --> 00:25:13.359
God said, because you came to the physical realm in order to experience what you are.
00:25:14.720 --> 00:25:21.200
And in the absence of what you are not, what you are is not.
00:25:22.799 --> 00:25:26.960
And I said to I said to God, okay, would you would you please explain that to me?
00:25:27.119 --> 00:25:29.359
Because I have a very little mind here.
00:25:29.599 --> 00:25:31.920
I'm trying to understand what you're telling.
00:25:32.240 --> 00:25:34.720
God said, Okay, I'll give you a simple example.
00:25:35.200 --> 00:25:36.799
You're six feet tall, correct?
00:25:36.960 --> 00:25:38.240
I said, Yes, of course.
00:25:39.200 --> 00:25:40.319
I'm six feet tall.
00:25:40.480 --> 00:25:41.039
You would know that.
00:25:41.119 --> 00:25:41.920
You're God.
00:25:42.799 --> 00:25:43.920
God said, Great.
00:25:44.480 --> 00:25:49.920
So now you know that you're six feet tall, but do you enjoy being six feet tall?
00:25:50.000 --> 00:25:51.599
Do you like being six feet tall?
00:25:51.680 --> 00:25:53.200
Is it a nice experience?
00:25:53.359 --> 00:25:54.000
I said, yes.
00:25:54.160 --> 00:25:57.359
I've enjoyed the experience of six being six feet tall.
00:25:57.759 --> 00:26:06.319
But God said to me, What if there was nothing in the world that was not six feet tall?
00:26:06.559 --> 00:26:08.000
What if every plant?
00:26:08.240 --> 00:26:09.759
What if every tree?
00:26:10.000 --> 00:26:11.599
What if every person in the world?
00:26:11.759 --> 00:26:12.640
What if every building?
00:26:12.799 --> 00:26:17.440
What if everything in the universe was precisely six feet tall?
00:26:17.759 --> 00:26:21.759
How would you know what it's like to be six feet tall?
00:26:22.240 --> 00:26:24.880
Because you have nothing to compare it to.
00:26:25.519 --> 00:26:30.559
Only when you're in the space of what you are not, you're not five foot seven.
00:26:31.119 --> 00:26:34.799
Only then would you be able to experience what you are.
00:26:36.799 --> 00:26:43.200
So therefore, I said, Well, okay, that's a very interesting analogy.
00:26:43.680 --> 00:26:47.200
God said, let's not move it up a notch.
00:26:47.440 --> 00:26:54.000
Supposing that you say that you are the light, that you choose to be the light of the world.
00:26:54.319 --> 00:26:56.400
Some people have made that decision.
00:26:56.640 --> 00:27:01.920
Or at least in a moment, they choose to be the person who brings light to the moment.
00:27:02.720 --> 00:27:13.519
God said, But if there is no darkness, if all there is is light, you can't experience yourself as the light because you're like a candle in the sun.
00:27:13.920 --> 00:27:23.359
You're there all right with a 50 billion cajillion other candles, but you can't express yourself unless the darkness darkness, yes.
00:27:23.599 --> 00:27:36.559
Therefore, God said to me, Therefore, Neil, raise not your fist to heaven and curse the darkness not, but be a light unto the darkness.
00:27:36.799 --> 00:27:37.200
Yeah.
00:27:37.440 --> 00:27:39.680
That you might know who that too.
00:27:39.759 --> 00:27:48.880
Yes, that you might know who you really are, and all those whose lives you touch might know who they really are.
00:27:49.920 --> 00:27:50.720
I love that.
00:27:51.279 --> 00:27:52.000
I love that.
00:27:52.240 --> 00:27:53.839
Be the light unto the darkness.
00:27:54.000 --> 00:27:54.640
I love that.
00:27:54.799 --> 00:28:02.079
It's almost similar to one of the scriptures that I hold dear, and it says, um, be the light on the hill.
00:28:02.319 --> 00:28:02.559
Right?
00:28:02.799 --> 00:28:03.200
Yes.
00:28:04.799 --> 00:28:05.440
Voila.
00:28:05.920 --> 00:28:06.480
Yeah, yeah.
00:28:06.720 --> 00:28:08.880
Or as Americans say, bingo.
00:28:09.200 --> 00:28:10.079
Bingo.
00:28:10.720 --> 00:28:12.880
Yeah, yeah, that was one of my scriptures.
00:28:12.960 --> 00:28:14.559
Yes, be the light on the hill.
00:28:14.640 --> 00:28:16.799
I I adopted that as one of mine.
00:28:17.279 --> 00:28:17.759
All right.
00:28:18.000 --> 00:28:18.960
So that was good.
00:28:19.119 --> 00:28:20.240
That was that was good.
00:28:20.400 --> 00:28:21.759
Um, I like that.
00:28:22.000 --> 00:28:42.720
That um, you know, a lot of times people say, like the the gurus, the Indian gurus that I follow talk about um, you know, we are spiritual beings having a human experience, and that we're here so that you know God can experience through our central nervous system.
00:28:43.200 --> 00:29:02.480
But you know, that is uh a great um, you know, a great take on and why we're here and to be, you know, who we're not and to understand that yeah, differences is what makes us enjoy this lifetime because you're right, everybody is the same, right?
00:29:03.119 --> 00:29:05.680
It's what's called the law of opposites.
00:29:05.920 --> 00:29:06.880
Yes, mm-hmm.
00:29:07.119 --> 00:29:19.920
No, the moment God said to me, Neil, the moment you declare yourself to be anything, you know, abundant, joyful, patient, understanding.
00:29:20.240 --> 00:29:29.279
The moment you declare yourself to be anything, everything unlike it will come into your awareness.
00:29:30.880 --> 00:29:34.960
It's been there all the time, but you be suddenly become aware of it, aware of it, right?
00:29:35.200 --> 00:29:38.720
Because you have made a decision about who you are.
00:29:40.000 --> 00:29:49.359
So do not blame and do not become angry when the law of opposites plays its effect in your life.
00:29:49.680 --> 00:30:00.559
Bless, bless, bless those who would do you evil, and be good to those who who would not do good to you.
00:30:00.799 --> 00:30:08.400
And if a man asks you for your coat, quoting Jesus, that's nice, yes, yes, yes.
00:30:08.720 --> 00:30:14.240
And when a man asks you to walk one mile with him, walk two, go with him, Twain.
00:30:16.880 --> 00:30:24.480
It's really quite simple, or as as that man you just talked about a moment ago said around 2,000 years ago.
00:30:25.200 --> 00:30:27.039
Neil, it's very simple.
00:30:28.240 --> 00:30:33.359
Do unto others as you would have it done unto you.
00:30:33.680 --> 00:30:34.799
Unto you, yeah.
00:30:35.039 --> 00:30:36.799
It's really quite simple.
00:30:37.039 --> 00:30:39.519
Yes, yes, yes, it is.
00:30:39.759 --> 00:30:40.640
It's very simple.
00:30:40.799 --> 00:30:46.799
And I heard you say something on the podcast that I was listening to that, you know, you knew what to do.
00:30:46.880 --> 00:30:50.559
You had the key, but we don't always we don't always do it.
00:30:50.720 --> 00:30:52.319
And that's exactly it.
00:30:52.559 --> 00:31:02.480
We, the Bible, you know, is the blueprint and the Quran and all these religious books are the blueprint, but very few people walk the walk.
00:31:02.640 --> 00:31:04.720
They know it's there, but they don't walk the walk.
00:31:04.799 --> 00:31:20.000
So well, I think part of the problem is that many of the books that you've mentioned, many of the world's religions, and by the way, there are 4,223 religions now being practiced on the face of the earth.
00:31:20.160 --> 00:31:21.680
I didn't make that number up.
00:31:21.920 --> 00:31:28.079
You can Google it and just type in the question how many religions are now being practiced on earth?
00:31:28.240 --> 00:31:32.160
4,223 at last count.
00:31:32.559 --> 00:31:44.720
Well, now the problem is that the majority of those religions tell us that in fact God's love is a transaction, it's conditional.
00:31:45.039 --> 00:31:50.799
I love you if you know you have to wear certain kind of clothing.
00:31:51.119 --> 00:32:09.759
And you can't wear certain other kind of clothes, you can't eat a certain kind of food, and if you eat that food, it's not kosher, you're not supposed to do that, and and you're not supposed to say certain words, you know, words that start with the letter F would be would be a good example.
00:32:10.079 --> 00:32:12.559
Like I so I can't even use the word fun.
00:32:13.680 --> 00:32:15.920
You see, it also starts with the letter F.
00:32:16.079 --> 00:32:18.480
God says, Oh, come on, Neil, come on.
00:32:19.119 --> 00:32:36.000
So we've been taught so many things by our world's religions that it's difficult for us to embrace some of the wonderful blessings that all of the world's religions have brought to us, and that's the challenge.
00:32:36.400 --> 00:32:41.279
You know, I want to make it very clear to anybody who's listening to this program right now.
00:32:41.440 --> 00:32:42.559
I'm not against religion.
00:32:42.720 --> 00:32:49.200
I think the world's religions have brought us, I want to repeat, great wisdom and wonderful insight.
00:32:49.759 --> 00:32:53.039
But I think there's a challenge with most of the world's religions.
00:32:53.279 --> 00:32:56.880
I think they're incomplete.
00:32:58.079 --> 00:33:00.480
I think there's more to the story.
00:33:01.359 --> 00:33:04.720
I think there's more going on here than meets the eye.
00:33:05.599 --> 00:33:18.480
And I think I think there's more to the story, and the more that there is, is that God says to us, not I love you if, but I love you even if.
00:34:02.960 --> 00:34:09.199
And the way they do that is to say that, you know, if you don't do these things, you're not gonna go to heaven.
00:34:09.360 --> 00:34:16.320
Or you're, you know, I think Islam talks about the fact that you're gonna be reincarnated until you get it right.
00:34:16.559 --> 00:34:26.719
So I mean, it's it's probably wrong for them to be saying that, you know, God, um uh God only loves you if you do these things.
00:34:26.960 --> 00:34:30.000
But I think that they had a purpose for putting it that way.
00:34:30.079 --> 00:34:30.639
What do you think?
00:34:31.280 --> 00:34:32.239
I I agree with you.
00:34:32.320 --> 00:34:44.000
The purpose was to provide certain guidelines, certain understandings, a certain level of awareness, you know, a certain, there's no question.
00:34:44.159 --> 00:34:45.840
I we we both agree on that.
00:34:46.000 --> 00:34:50.480
And so the world's great religions have brought us that benefit.
00:34:51.119 --> 00:35:19.440
But I'm I'm sorry to have to repeat myself, but most of the world's religions teach us that if you don't do it their way specifically, for instance, many Christian denominations, I don't know about yours, and I'm not asking you about yours, but many Christian denominations teach that if you're not a Christian, if you don't believe in Christ as your personal savior, you're not going to heaven.
00:35:19.679 --> 00:35:26.000
That means that 2.5 billion Muslims cannot get into paradise.
00:35:26.239 --> 00:35:31.519
That means that several billion Jews cannot get into paradise.
00:35:31.679 --> 00:35:43.360
That means if you're a Buddhist, you cannot get, in fact, if you're anything but a Christian, which is the one true religion, and if you're not following that religion, you're locked out of heaven.
00:35:43.599 --> 00:35:50.079
That's the God we're being taught about by certain Christian denominations.
00:35:50.639 --> 00:35:55.280
And when I hear people talk about that, I keep saying, I mean, really?
00:35:56.079 --> 00:36:13.519
You really believe that God says to a person who is kind, generous, compassionate, forgiving, sensitive, and incredibly loving, but happens to be a Muslim, sorry, you can't come in.
00:36:15.039 --> 00:36:18.320
You not not not, it's worse than you can't come into heaven.
00:36:18.400 --> 00:36:19.840
You're actually going to hell.
00:36:20.079 --> 00:36:21.039
They're going to hell.
00:36:21.199 --> 00:36:21.519
Yeah.
00:36:21.679 --> 00:36:25.199
I mean, this is the God that we're being invited to believe in.
00:36:25.679 --> 00:36:33.199
No wonder we have a hard time believing in a love that has no condition.
00:36:33.599 --> 00:36:34.000
Yeah.
00:36:34.239 --> 00:36:36.719
We've been taught about it from our religions.
00:36:37.199 --> 00:36:37.760
Yeah.
00:36:38.000 --> 00:36:42.880
Well, that was exactly the question that you stumped me on the last time we were here.
00:36:43.440 --> 00:36:45.519
So I'm not going to get sucked into it again.
00:36:45.679 --> 00:36:56.159
But I will say that the reason the Christian religion says that, it is because Jesus said it in the Bible that I'm the way, the truth, and the light.
00:36:56.320 --> 00:37:00.719
And yes, but he didn't say but he didn't say I'm the only way.
00:37:01.199 --> 00:37:01.519
Okay.
00:37:01.920 --> 00:37:02.159
Okay.
00:37:02.400 --> 00:37:04.239
He said I'm the way, the truth, and the light.
00:37:04.320 --> 00:37:05.199
And that's true.
00:37:05.440 --> 00:37:05.599
Right.
00:37:05.760 --> 00:37:10.480
That's that would be like that would be like me saying, you know, uh, I have a good diet.
00:37:10.639 --> 00:37:12.000
Follow my diet.
00:37:12.239 --> 00:37:18.960
And and if you if you if you follow the diet that I, you know, that I follow, you will be healthy in your body.
00:37:19.119 --> 00:37:20.719
But it's not the only way.
00:37:21.679 --> 00:37:22.239
That's good.
00:37:22.320 --> 00:37:22.880
That's good.
00:37:23.039 --> 00:37:23.599
That's good.
00:37:23.840 --> 00:37:24.239
All right.
00:37:24.320 --> 00:37:25.840
So yes, you're very right.
00:37:26.079 --> 00:37:26.880
You're very right.
00:37:27.039 --> 00:37:33.119
You know, um, a lot of the religions practice exclusion, and exclusion is not good, right?
00:37:33.199 --> 00:37:36.239
And and they're starting to become more inclusive too.
00:37:36.559 --> 00:37:45.360
Because, you know, if we want to go down this path, um, and I'm not even sure if I should bring it up, but since I'm going down this path, I'll continue.
00:37:45.519 --> 00:37:53.360
You know, um the Bible also talks about um homosexuality and how homosexuality is an abomination to God.
00:37:53.519 --> 00:38:01.360
And for a long time, you know, the homosexuals weren't invited into church and now they're starting to invite them because it was exclusions.
00:38:01.440 --> 00:38:08.400
You're saying if you're homosexual, you can't go to heaven, and now they're, you know, that pastors are bringing them in.
00:38:08.480 --> 00:38:08.639
Right.
00:38:09.199 --> 00:38:10.320
It's worse than that.
00:38:11.360 --> 00:38:25.519
Some religions teach that the Bible says that if you cannot see, if you're blind, a blind person is not allowed to enter into the house of the Lord.
00:38:25.760 --> 00:38:28.000
It's right there in the Bible.
00:38:28.400 --> 00:38:29.679
Okay, I don't know that one.
00:38:30.159 --> 00:38:40.000
The Bible talks about how how it's wrong to plant certain crops, the same kinds of crops in the same field, in the same growing season.
00:38:40.159 --> 00:38:44.320
There are a lot of things that the Bible declares to be true.
00:38:44.559 --> 00:38:45.199
That's it.
00:38:47.840 --> 00:38:48.480
Of course, of course.
00:38:48.800 --> 00:38:50.000
It is okay, all right, right.
00:38:50.159 --> 00:38:51.360
Yes, men put that in there.
00:38:51.440 --> 00:38:52.079
Okay, all right.
00:38:52.239 --> 00:39:06.239
So, well, you know, which is why God has a conduit or channel like yourselves, and why he has allowed your work to touch millions, because you are changing the conversation and the paradigm.
00:39:06.320 --> 00:39:07.280
So good work.
00:39:07.440 --> 00:39:12.400
I mean, I think it's an incredible thing that, yes, that God talks to you.
00:39:12.480 --> 00:39:14.559
You're like his modern-day Moses.
00:39:15.280 --> 00:39:16.880
Well, God talks to everyone.
00:39:17.039 --> 00:39:26.000
I want to make that very clear because I I don't want anyone to think that I imagine myself to be this special, special person to whom God talks.
00:39:26.239 --> 00:39:31.039
God made it very clear to me because I did, I asked God, I said, God, why me?
00:39:31.519 --> 00:39:36.800
God said, Oh, Neil, sweetheart, I talk to everyone all the time.
00:39:37.039 --> 00:39:37.519
It's true.
00:39:37.599 --> 00:39:37.920
It's true.
00:39:38.159 --> 00:39:42.239
The question isn't to whom do I talk, the question is who listens.
00:39:42.480 --> 00:39:43.119
Who listens?
00:39:43.360 --> 00:39:56.559
And even some people who imagine that they are hearing from a source outside of themselves, they'll call it, you know, women's intuition or a psychic hit or an epiphany.
00:39:56.800 --> 00:40:02.639
I had an epiphany or I had a brilliant idea in the shower stall yesterday, you know, whatever.
00:40:02.800 --> 00:40:05.119
They don't they wouldn't say I had a conversation with God.
00:40:05.840 --> 00:40:07.039
Because people think you're crazy.
00:40:07.280 --> 00:40:09.679
Yeah, they don't want to be marginalized.
00:40:10.320 --> 00:40:12.800
I called it exactly what it felt like.
00:40:13.039 --> 00:40:15.119
Yes, conversation with God.
00:40:15.280 --> 00:40:15.599
Yes.
00:40:15.840 --> 00:40:18.880
I have those conversations too, but I never say it's from God.
00:40:18.960 --> 00:40:23.440
I say it's my angel or my higher self or whatever, but I never say that, right?
00:40:23.519 --> 00:40:24.159
Yes.
00:40:24.800 --> 00:40:25.440
Voila.
00:40:26.079 --> 00:40:27.199
Voila, right?
00:40:28.079 --> 00:40:28.400
Right.
00:40:28.559 --> 00:40:30.480
And I never talk back, I just listen.
00:40:31.840 --> 00:40:34.239
Well, I I wound up talking back.
00:40:34.400 --> 00:40:37.599
I wound up asking God questions.
00:40:37.840 --> 00:40:45.119
You know, when when what God said to me didn't make sense, I said simply said, that doesn't make sense to me.
00:40:45.360 --> 00:40:51.679
And then God would say to me, let me explain it to you more deeply and see if it can make sense.
00:40:51.920 --> 00:41:06.480
And ultimately, everything that I was told in the 30, in the in the nine books and the and the uh 3,000 pages of the conversations with God dialogue series, right?
00:41:06.880 --> 00:41:10.000
Ultimately, everything I was told began to make sense to me.
00:41:10.559 --> 00:41:11.199
I understood.
00:41:11.360 --> 00:41:12.480
I didn't know there were nine books.
00:41:12.559 --> 00:41:14.000
I only I read three of them.
00:41:14.159 --> 00:41:16.960
I thought there were so you must have written more after.
00:41:17.440 --> 00:41:23.360
Yes, there are nine dialogue books in the conversations with God series.
00:41:24.159 --> 00:41:30.559
Book one, two, and three, and then friendship with God and communion with God.
00:41:30.960 --> 00:41:44.880
Okay, and my favorite of the dialogue books, the book called Home with God in a Life That Never Ends, which talks about what happens after we do the thing that we imagine is death.
00:41:45.119 --> 00:41:46.639
We never die, of course.
00:41:46.719 --> 00:41:48.639
We simply have a change of address.
00:41:50.079 --> 00:41:50.559
We never die.
00:41:50.880 --> 00:41:51.920
I gotta get those then.
00:41:52.079 --> 00:41:55.119
Like I said, I got one, I I've read one through three.
00:41:55.360 --> 00:41:59.840
But yes, I have to um I like the favorite one because everybody is so curious about that.
00:41:59.920 --> 00:42:03.519
And I have a questionnaire on death in a minute, so we'll get to that.
00:42:03.599 --> 00:42:05.679
But um, yes, everybody's curious about that.
00:42:05.840 --> 00:42:08.480
So God talked to you about that too?
00:42:09.039 --> 00:42:10.000
Yes, she did.
00:42:10.159 --> 00:42:15.519
She talked to me about every imaginable topic because I asked questions.
00:42:15.679 --> 00:42:16.480
I asked about that.
00:42:16.559 --> 00:42:19.119
I said, you know, what happens after we die?
00:42:19.280 --> 00:42:21.679
Is it true that there's life after death?
00:42:21.920 --> 00:42:27.440
You know, and God said, I wouldn't say there's life after death, I would say there's no such thing as death.
00:42:29.119 --> 00:42:30.719
Death does not exist.
00:42:31.039 --> 00:42:33.440
You simply have a change of address.
00:42:33.920 --> 00:42:34.559
Hmm.
00:42:35.280 --> 00:42:35.599
Okay.
00:42:36.159 --> 00:42:37.760
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
00:42:37.920 --> 00:42:38.400
All right.
00:42:38.639 --> 00:42:40.480
See, I'm loving our conversation.
00:42:40.719 --> 00:42:41.280
All right.
00:42:41.679 --> 00:43:05.039
So, you know, I've made a lot of um, I I I interview a lot of guests on trauma, and I think that I'm starting to have a trauma following because of course I also had childhood trauma, which I'm hearing now that it I'm not unique, that there it's, I'm not sure if there's a statistic, but there's a lot of people, adults that have childhood trauma.
00:43:05.199 --> 00:43:11.039
So many of my listeners have experienced trauma, illness, betrayal, profound loss.
00:43:11.199 --> 00:43:15.519
Um, from your spiritual perspective, what is the purpose of suffering?
00:43:15.599 --> 00:43:17.360
What did God tell you about suffering?
00:43:17.519 --> 00:43:22.800
Is it something to transcend, something to embrace, or something else entirely?
00:43:23.039 --> 00:43:29.119
So one person has the fact that, okay, sit with it, the Buddha says suffering is in the mind.
00:43:29.280 --> 00:43:31.760
You know, what does God say about suffering?
00:43:32.639 --> 00:43:41.840
God says that suffering is simply your announcement that what is happening or what has happened should not be happening.
00:43:43.440 --> 00:43:53.840
When you agree with what is happening and don't try to convince yourself that it should not be happening, then you don't suffer.
00:43:54.000 --> 00:43:59.760
You may experience pain, emotional pain or physical pain, but you don't suffer from the pain.
00:44:00.719 --> 00:44:03.199
And I said to God, okay, you lost me again.
00:44:03.280 --> 00:44:04.400
And help me understand.
00:44:04.480 --> 00:44:08.079
God said, Neil, let me give you an example.
00:44:08.719 --> 00:44:15.920
You'd been in the room when your wife gave birth to your children.
00:44:16.079 --> 00:44:26.639
Not just one child, but triplets, one after the other, over a period of three and a half or four hours of labor.
00:44:27.679 --> 00:44:29.840
Did she experience any discomfort?
00:44:30.000 --> 00:44:30.559
Any pain?
00:44:30.639 --> 00:44:32.559
I said, Oh my gosh, of course she did.
00:44:33.840 --> 00:44:36.239
Every one of the births was painful.
00:44:37.119 --> 00:44:43.039
She said, If if if the births were painful, did she suffer?
00:44:43.840 --> 00:44:46.800
I said, Well, no, I didn't experience her suffering.
00:44:47.119 --> 00:44:53.119
Frankly, I experienced her with tears of joy in the midst of the pain.
00:44:53.280 --> 00:44:53.920
Yeah, yeah.
00:44:54.239 --> 00:44:57.840
Because she realized that the pain had a purpose.
00:44:58.159 --> 00:45:01.920
And the purpose was to give birth to new life.
00:45:02.239 --> 00:45:04.880
So she was okay with the pain.
00:45:05.119 --> 00:45:08.159
It wasn't less painful, but it was not suffering.
00:45:08.400 --> 00:45:10.480
She did not have to suffer through it.
00:45:10.639 --> 00:45:12.800
She simply said, I understand.
00:45:13.440 --> 00:45:23.519
And when, you know, when I was given that information, I suddenly understood the difference between pain and suffering.
00:45:23.920 --> 00:45:28.480
Suffering is your announcement that what is occurring should not be occurring.
00:45:29.280 --> 00:45:48.320
But your awareness is your announcement that you see everything in life, every moment, as an opportunity for you to announce and declare, to express and fulfill, to become and experience who you really are.
00:45:51.280 --> 00:45:53.519
Yeah, that is that is good.
00:45:53.679 --> 00:45:54.400
It's true.
00:45:54.639 --> 00:46:01.360
And those who cause pain and people can suffer for a long time and it's in their minds when, yes, yes.
00:46:01.840 --> 00:46:03.519
What I call unfinished business.
00:46:03.760 --> 00:46:04.559
Yeah, yeah.
00:46:04.880 --> 00:46:09.440
But we have to have to wait a way to complete our unfinished business.
00:46:09.760 --> 00:46:19.360
Because the people who cause pain or you know, negative experiences in another, they don't even know what they're doing.
00:46:19.679 --> 00:46:26.400
They have no concept of what they're producing in the experience of another.
00:46:26.639 --> 00:46:35.280
That guy you mentioned who lived 2,000 years ago to bring him up again, said that as they were killing him.
00:46:35.679 --> 00:46:36.639
Yeah, forgive him.
00:46:37.599 --> 00:46:53.760
When they put the the the the spear into his side as he was dying on the cross, his words were unforgettable, and we haven't forgotten them after 2,000 years.
00:46:54.079 --> 00:46:56.559
Father, forgive them.
00:46:57.920 --> 00:47:00.559
They know not what not what they do.
00:47:00.800 --> 00:47:02.639
Because there is a purpose to his pain.
00:47:02.800 --> 00:47:03.920
I love this, Neil.
00:47:04.079 --> 00:47:04.880
I love this.
00:47:05.039 --> 00:47:07.360
Yes, this is transcending.
00:47:07.840 --> 00:47:08.960
So that's what you're doing.
00:47:09.360 --> 00:47:10.960
Something to transcend, right?
00:47:11.119 --> 00:47:11.360
Yes.
00:47:11.519 --> 00:47:14.159
So the answers to that, embrace it too.
00:47:14.880 --> 00:47:16.320
Yes, that is great.
00:47:16.719 --> 00:47:23.119
So what God said to me, what God said to me was, Neil, what you resist persists.
00:47:23.360 --> 00:47:23.599
Yes.
00:47:23.840 --> 00:47:26.159
But what you look at disappears.
00:47:26.320 --> 00:47:30.400
That is, it ceases to have its illusory form.
00:47:31.440 --> 00:47:32.079
Hmm.
00:47:33.039 --> 00:47:33.360
All right.
00:47:33.440 --> 00:47:36.000
Well, I'm gonna circle back with a question here.
00:47:36.320 --> 00:47:38.159
So we talked about trauma.
00:47:38.639 --> 00:47:42.960
Trauma, childhood trauma is what somebody did to you.
00:47:43.440 --> 00:47:48.239
How would you um what is the purpose of that suffering?
00:47:50.000 --> 00:48:02.320
There is no suffering when we understand that it was an opportunity for us to decide who we are and who we choose to be.
00:48:02.880 --> 00:48:11.599
But we can't, we couldn't get to that level of awareness, Myrna, if we didn't agree with ourselves that this is not who I am.
00:48:12.480 --> 00:48:18.480
Uh guys, I'm not my body, Neil said, pointing to his body.
00:48:19.039 --> 00:48:23.679
I'm not my mind, Neil said, pointing to his brain.
00:48:23.920 --> 00:48:25.360
This is not who I am.
00:48:25.519 --> 00:48:33.920
These are simply tools, pieces of equipment being used by who I really am, my soul.
00:48:37.039 --> 00:48:44.239
As devices that allow me to express and to experience my true identity.
00:48:45.920 --> 00:48:58.239
So anything that happens to my body is something that I can use as an opportunity to decide and declare who I really am.
00:48:58.800 --> 00:49:15.760
Now I'm gonna say something that's gonna be a little bit off the map for most people, but the energy that I have come to use, even when unwelcome events occur in my life, is gratitude.
00:49:17.840 --> 00:49:34.639
I heard that I heard that gratitude, thank you, God, for bringing me another opportunity to announce and declare, express and fulfill, become an experience, an opportunity to demonstrate who I really am.
00:49:35.119 --> 00:49:45.760
And the more I step into that expression, the expression of gratitude, the less I can experience myself as being a victim.
00:49:46.159 --> 00:49:54.639
Because you know, for most of my life, I allowed myself to be the hero and the victim of the same story simultaneously.
00:49:55.360 --> 00:49:55.840
Mm-hmm.
00:49:56.000 --> 00:49:56.480
Mm-hmm.
00:49:56.559 --> 00:49:57.119
Mm-hmm.
00:49:58.079 --> 00:49:59.599
No, no, no, you don't understand.
00:49:59.679 --> 00:50:03.920
I'm a hero because this is I did what I had to do, but I'm a victim because I had to do it.
00:50:04.239 --> 00:50:04.880
Someone did it to you.
00:50:05.039 --> 00:50:06.000
Yeah, someone did it to you.
00:50:06.079 --> 00:50:06.239
Yes.
00:50:07.440 --> 00:50:13.679
So, but God said to me, Neil, choose either you're a victim or you're a hero.
00:50:14.400 --> 00:50:16.400
But I'm not gonna let you be both.
00:50:16.960 --> 00:50:30.960
Because so I decided, okay, I'm no longer going to experience myself as being the victim of my own storm, even though I've had plenty of experiences in life where I felt victimized.
00:50:31.440 --> 00:50:32.639
I love that.
00:50:32.960 --> 00:50:34.000
That touches me.
00:50:34.079 --> 00:50:44.239
In my book, I talk about being um a player in the card game and working with the cards that you were dealt and not becoming a victim, right?
00:50:44.400 --> 00:50:52.000
Because a victim says, oh, these are cards that I've been dealt, and you know, I gotta be, I gotta suffer and I gotta be this person because of what the cards are.
00:50:52.159 --> 00:51:10.000
But if you're a player, then you I love that, but I love hero better because yes, you're a player, you're a hero, then you do something with, and yes, gratitude, um, you know, does something to yourselves, it does something to your brain, your mind, your energy, all those things.
00:51:10.079 --> 00:51:25.599
And but yes, it's a tall glass of water to tell someone to be grateful for their pain or their suffering or their trauma, but that's what happens when they get to the other side, that you've got to be grateful for it.
00:51:25.760 --> 00:51:28.559
So, yes, it's not it's not off the wall.
00:51:28.719 --> 00:51:41.760
It is actually what you've got to do, but it's it's a process, and you've got to go through the tunnel before you get on the other side and be, you know, be grateful or become the hero.
00:51:42.000 --> 00:51:43.280
There's work to be done.
00:51:43.519 --> 00:51:45.360
So thank you for that, Neil.
00:51:45.519 --> 00:51:46.480
Appreciate that.
00:51:47.199 --> 00:51:51.679
All right, so let's talk about transformation, which is what this show is about.
00:51:52.000 --> 00:52:02.960
Um, do you believe that people truly reinvent themselves, or do they simply remember who they always were beneath the conditioning, the expectations, and the fear?
00:52:03.440 --> 00:52:06.159
So there's two levels of thought here.
00:52:06.480 --> 00:52:14.880
One is that people really never transform, they just change for a little bit and then they go back to themselves.
00:52:15.039 --> 00:52:32.400
So, or I mean, I heard you say something very beautiful earlier is that we have to, not in this show, on the on the podcast that I was listening to, you talk about we have to let people return to themselves or understand who they are and give them the opportunity to go back to themselves.
00:52:32.639 --> 00:52:38.000
So talk about that in a form of is there transformation or remembering?
00:52:39.280 --> 00:52:41.679
I don't I don't think it's either or.
00:52:42.559 --> 00:52:44.400
I think it's both and.
00:52:45.920 --> 00:52:56.320
I think we remember, and as a result of remembering, we transform ourselves, or at least we're invited to do so.
00:52:56.960 --> 00:52:58.880
So I don't think it's one or the other.
00:52:59.519 --> 00:53:10.159
To me, to me, it to me, um I have an opportunity in each moment of my life where events are unwelcome to remember who I really am.
00:53:11.519 --> 00:53:17.840
And then I have an opportunity to transform who I really am because of what I've remembered.
00:53:18.239 --> 00:53:22.320
And I love to use the word remember in a different way.
00:53:22.880 --> 00:53:59.039
To remember, that is to become a member once again of the body of God and to become a member once again of the wholeness of the one experience of the singularity, to be a singularization of the singularity and to remember that I'm not separate from anyone, not even am I separate from those who do things to me that are unwelcome.
00:54:00.000 --> 00:54:04.880
Right, right, yes, yes, yes, very true.
00:54:04.960 --> 00:54:05.519
I like that.
00:54:05.679 --> 00:54:08.960
So that leads right into my question that I have here.
00:54:09.119 --> 00:54:18.480
If you would leave our listeners with one thought, one sentence that they can carry with them tomorrow morning when life becomes difficult, what would you want them to remember?
00:54:20.960 --> 00:54:24.480
There's more going on here than meets the eye.
00:54:27.039 --> 00:54:28.000
True.
00:54:28.800 --> 00:54:31.360
That's what I would want them to remember.
00:54:31.920 --> 00:54:36.480
My friends, there's more going on here than meets the eye.
00:54:36.800 --> 00:54:50.960
If you think that your life is just about, you know, get the guy or get the girl, get the job, get the house, get the better job, get the better house, get the better spouse, you know, get whatever.
00:54:51.360 --> 00:54:58.800
If you think that your life is all about what you can get, then you have misunderstood completely what you're doing here.
00:55:00.000 --> 00:55:03.119
There's more going on here than meets the eye.
00:55:03.440 --> 00:55:08.480
Your life is not about what you can get, it's about what you can give.
00:55:09.360 --> 00:55:18.400
And when you really experience that, your life becomes a golden experience when it's focused on what you can give.
00:55:19.679 --> 00:55:26.239
Even when you are being damaged or hurt, what can you give in that moment?
00:55:28.000 --> 00:55:29.440
Can you give compassion?
00:55:29.599 --> 00:55:30.719
Can you give understanding?
00:55:30.880 --> 00:55:32.239
Can you give patience?
00:55:32.800 --> 00:55:34.800
Can you give a level of awareness?
00:55:35.039 --> 00:55:39.039
Can you give love to those who are hurting you?
00:55:39.360 --> 00:55:45.599
Can you love them enough to ask God to forgive them even as they're killing you?
00:55:49.519 --> 00:55:51.199
There was a guy who did that.
00:55:51.440 --> 00:55:53.440
I know, I know, I know the guy.
00:55:56.880 --> 00:56:00.880
Yeah, and so and he wasn't the only one.
00:56:01.119 --> 00:56:03.519
There have been other people who have walked the planet.
00:56:03.760 --> 00:56:06.880
Yeah, but he stands out because most people can't do what he did.
00:56:06.960 --> 00:56:08.400
But yes, anyway, go ahead.
00:56:10.400 --> 00:56:20.159
And unless they can, most people can't unless they can, until they can, right?
00:56:20.400 --> 00:56:24.880
And more and more people are finding that they can.
00:56:25.440 --> 00:56:41.199
True, true, because even this one man said to his disciples when they saw the way he was living his life, he turned to those who were following him everywhere, and he said to them, Why are you so amazed?
00:56:42.000 --> 00:56:47.199
These things and more shall you do also?
00:56:48.320 --> 00:56:48.880
Mm-hmm.
00:56:49.199 --> 00:56:49.679
Mm-hmm.
00:56:50.480 --> 00:56:54.639
I quote this guy pretty regularly because I listen to what he had to say.
00:56:54.800 --> 00:57:00.639
I don't listen to only a portion of what he had to say, I listen to all that he had to say.
00:57:01.440 --> 00:57:03.119
Why are you so amazed?
00:57:03.360 --> 00:57:07.280
These things and more shall you do also?
00:57:07.920 --> 00:57:08.320
Mm-hmm.
00:57:08.719 --> 00:57:10.719
Oh ye of little faith.
00:57:12.159 --> 00:57:14.400
Amazing, amazing, amazing.
00:57:14.559 --> 00:57:16.320
I love it, I love it, I love it.
00:57:16.559 --> 00:57:17.199
All right.
00:57:17.599 --> 00:57:23.679
So tell us about your book, Letters to a Young Seeker, Departing Thoughts from an Elder.
00:57:23.840 --> 00:57:24.960
Why did you write it?
00:57:25.039 --> 00:57:27.199
And what do you want readers to take away with it?
00:57:27.280 --> 00:57:34.159
And also, um, you know, from the introduction, the book is a letter and then poetry from your wife.
00:57:34.320 --> 00:57:37.039
Why did you choose that kind of format?
00:57:37.199 --> 00:57:42.400
And what are you hoping that the readers will take away from that format?
00:57:42.880 --> 00:57:46.000
Well, my wife suggested the book.
00:57:46.400 --> 00:57:53.840
My wife is an award-winning published poet long before you know uh she was involved with me.
00:57:54.239 --> 00:57:57.360
So I I didn't take her to that level.
00:57:57.679 --> 00:58:02.159
But she had a dream, she told me about a year and a half or two ago.
00:58:02.800 --> 00:58:15.280
She said, You know, honey, I had a dream last night about the German poet Rilke, who who um wound up writing uh letters to a young poet.
00:58:15.519 --> 00:58:22.400
Because a young poet had written to Rilke and said, Tell me how I can be a poet as good as you are.
00:58:22.639 --> 00:58:25.679
What do I need to know to be as good as you are?
00:58:25.840 --> 00:58:36.480
And Rilke wrote back, and it became, and the young man published the letters that Rilke wrote back, and the book was called Letters to a Young Poet.
00:58:37.280 --> 00:58:39.360
Very famous book in Germany.
00:58:39.760 --> 00:58:46.960
And my wife looked at me and she said, Sweetheart, why don't you write letters to a young seeker?
00:58:47.920 --> 00:58:48.400
Nice.
00:58:48.639 --> 00:58:53.920
And let it be everything you wish someone had said to you when you were 23.
00:58:57.199 --> 00:59:00.960
Are there any things that you've learned in your conversations with God?
00:59:01.119 --> 00:59:09.599
My wife asked me that you wished you had known when you were 23 or 33 or even 40s.
00:59:12.079 --> 00:59:14.000
I said, yes, many, many things.
00:59:14.320 --> 00:59:19.199
God said, put them down in writing.
00:59:21.599 --> 00:59:32.079
So that a person who is 23 can pick up this book and not have to go through the 30 years you went through to get to this level of clarity.
00:59:33.760 --> 00:59:35.440
And so I said, you know what?
00:59:35.599 --> 00:59:37.599
I am going to do that.
00:59:37.760 --> 00:59:52.400
And I sat down and I wrote 21 letters, each of which contained an important and powerful message that I wish someone had told me when I was 23 years old.
00:59:52.719 --> 00:59:53.599
That's beautiful.
00:59:53.840 --> 00:59:56.320
Not the least of which was Neil.
00:59:57.679 --> 01:00:00.320
There's more going on here than HDI.
01:00:00.639 --> 01:00:01.519
H the eye.
01:00:03.119 --> 01:00:14.400
And also one of the other most powerful statements in that book came in letters to a young seeker, letter number 16.
01:00:15.599 --> 01:00:16.000
Neil.
01:00:17.840 --> 01:00:19.840
Never forgive anyone for anything.
01:00:21.679 --> 01:00:23.920
God will never forgive you for anything.
01:00:26.880 --> 01:00:35.440
Because God doesn't need to forgive you because you can't possibly hurt, damage, injure, anger, or frustrate God in any way.
01:00:36.960 --> 01:00:40.559
Little old you do not have the power to make God angry.
01:00:40.880 --> 01:00:48.960
God simply understands why a person at your level of evolution do or say the things that you're doing or saying.
01:00:49.119 --> 01:00:54.079
That doesn't mean that God condones it or approves of it, but God does understand it.
01:00:54.239 --> 01:01:06.480
So, Neil, in letter number 16, tell young people understanding replaces forgiveness in the mind of the master.
01:01:06.960 --> 01:01:07.599
I love it.
01:01:07.760 --> 01:01:08.400
I love it.
01:01:08.559 --> 01:01:21.920
Yeah, when I was listening to you on the podcast, you talked about that and you give an example of a two-year-old child, you know, spilling milk, and the grandparents don't say, I forgive you, they say they understand that why it was spilled.
01:01:22.079 --> 01:01:30.159
So that was that was a pretty good um uh you know analogy to show the difference between forgiveness and an understanding.
01:01:30.400 --> 01:01:32.079
So yeah, so that's good.
01:01:33.519 --> 01:01:46.719
Even when even when a two-year-old deliberately, not not accidentally spills the milk, but even when a two-year-old child deliberately misbehaves at the dinner table in order to get attention.
01:01:47.440 --> 01:01:51.440
Even then, not I love you if I love you even.
01:01:52.079 --> 01:01:55.039
Even because we do, actually, we do.
01:01:55.199 --> 01:01:56.960
That's not a stress, yes.
01:01:57.440 --> 01:02:00.960
Even if you're misbehaving in order to get attention.
01:02:01.199 --> 01:02:04.480
So we say to the child, I understand.
01:02:04.639 --> 01:02:09.199
And we don't say to the child, go to your room for the next 26 years.
01:02:10.159 --> 01:02:20.159
We don't punish the child with uh with a with uh an outcome that's far worse than the offense.
01:02:21.679 --> 01:02:38.880
So the idea that God would send us to a place called hell for eternity because during one lifetime, and by the way, one lifetime compared to eternity would be like one second on a human clock compared to 50 years.
01:02:39.119 --> 01:02:40.719
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:02:41.039 --> 01:03:03.679
Why would God say, no, no, you don't understand, you did the wrong thing, you belong to the wrong religion, or you did the wrong thing, you stole somebody's money, or you have you're going to hell for eternity, for the rest of all time, because of something you did for one nanosecond of the eternal life.
01:03:04.000 --> 01:03:11.760
So, but we have to believe in a God that bases her love on fear.
01:03:11.920 --> 01:03:13.440
You know what I was told when I was nine years old?
01:03:13.519 --> 01:03:24.960
I may have told you this before, but when I was told when I was nine years old, I was told in my third grade class, the priest came in once a week to teach us catechism.
01:03:25.440 --> 01:03:26.480
You told me that in the last one.
01:03:26.559 --> 01:03:28.639
But go ahead, tell our new listeners, right?
01:03:29.599 --> 01:03:34.400
And the priest was telling us about mortal sin and venial sin.
01:03:34.559 --> 01:03:41.440
And I said, God, and he was saying mortal sin is the worst kind of offense that you can commit in God's eyes.
01:03:41.599 --> 01:03:46.079
And if you die with that sin on your soul, you go straight to hell.
01:03:47.039 --> 01:03:50.800
And I said, Father, raise me a little nine-year-old hand.
01:03:51.039 --> 01:03:53.440
Can you give me an example of a mortal sin?
01:03:53.760 --> 01:03:55.760
He said, Certainly, my son.
01:03:56.159 --> 01:04:03.599
And I thought he was going to tell me about, you know, murdering someone or perhaps stealing someone's life savings or whatever.
01:04:03.840 --> 01:04:07.199
He said, if you miss mass on Sunday, it's a mortal sin.
01:04:07.599 --> 01:04:08.239
Wow.
01:04:08.400 --> 01:04:08.559
Yeah.
01:04:08.880 --> 01:04:23.920
And my nine-year-old mind is going, wait a minute, if I miss mass one Sunday of my life, yeah, and I don't get to confession before I die, so I tried to trip the father up.
01:04:24.000 --> 01:04:25.840
I tried to trip up the priest.
01:04:26.000 --> 01:04:29.679
I said, Father, what if I'm on the way to confession?
01:04:29.840 --> 01:04:41.760
And I want to confess my sin and be forgiven, but I get hit by a car on the way to church, just outside the church front door, and I die on the driveway into the church.
01:04:42.079 --> 01:04:47.199
Surely God would forgive me, knowing that I was coming to church to seek forgiveness.
01:04:47.440 --> 01:04:50.960
And the priest looked at me and he said, I'm sorry, my child.
01:04:51.360 --> 01:04:56.079
But if you die with that sin on your soul, you will go straight to hell.
01:04:57.039 --> 01:05:03.039
Everlasting damnation for missing church one Sunday of your life.
01:05:03.199 --> 01:05:06.320
Talk about filling the pews with fear.
01:05:06.639 --> 01:05:07.360
Yeah, yeah.
01:05:07.519 --> 01:05:08.159
They do that.
01:05:08.320 --> 01:05:09.360
They do that.
01:05:09.920 --> 01:05:13.679
Yes, and they know, like Jesus says, they know not what they do.
01:05:13.920 --> 01:05:21.519
Because yes, he is He is He is putting that into your young, malleable lie mind.
01:05:21.840 --> 01:05:24.559
And you never know what can spew from that, right?
01:05:24.719 --> 01:05:26.400
Because it's inception.
01:05:26.800 --> 01:05:29.280
Yeah, if it's good enough for God, that's good enough for me.
01:05:29.440 --> 01:05:31.679
I can do the same behavior with other people.
01:05:32.239 --> 01:05:35.119
Yeah, I can treat other people the way God treats me.
01:05:35.360 --> 01:05:40.159
Either give me what I want, or eternal damnation.
01:05:40.400 --> 01:05:42.880
Or I'll be hell in your life.
01:05:43.119 --> 01:05:44.559
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
01:05:44.880 --> 01:05:52.000
So, you know, we we we've completely misunderstood who we are, why we're here, what God is, and what God wants.
01:05:52.239 --> 01:05:56.639
I wrote a book a few years ago titled What God Wants.
01:05:57.119 --> 01:05:59.360
And chapter nine of that book.
01:06:00.159 --> 01:06:02.639
Includes everything that God wants.
01:06:04.159 --> 01:06:07.920
It's 26 blank pages.
01:06:09.599 --> 01:06:11.440
Yeah, I was just one of the words about that.
01:06:11.519 --> 01:06:13.920
I'm thinking, I thought you said it's not transactional.
01:06:14.079 --> 01:06:15.440
God doesn't need anything from us.
01:06:15.599 --> 01:06:16.159
Good job.
01:06:16.239 --> 01:06:17.280
Good job, right?
01:06:17.440 --> 01:06:18.960
It's a play on the words.
01:06:19.119 --> 01:06:19.679
I love it.
01:06:19.760 --> 01:06:20.480
I love it.
01:06:20.719 --> 01:06:21.360
All right.
01:06:21.920 --> 01:06:26.239
Well, I had a question here about debt, but uh we're out of time.
01:06:26.559 --> 01:06:32.239
So um uh tell our listeners how they can get in touch with all your works.
01:06:32.400 --> 01:06:34.480
I'm sure you've got them all on a website.
01:06:34.639 --> 01:06:36.800
We all know that your books are on Amazon.
01:06:37.039 --> 01:06:38.320
So, what is your website?
01:06:38.480 --> 01:06:47.760
If you're in social media, what is your social media um uh handle so they can they can communicate with you after this conversation?
01:06:48.880 --> 01:06:52.000
Just go to neeldonaldwalsh.com.
01:06:53.440 --> 01:06:55.360
It's really quite simple.
01:06:56.239 --> 01:07:00.960
And if you don't know how to spell my name, just type in in the Google search engine.
01:07:01.039 --> 01:07:05.760
And if you type it the wrong way, it the Google search engine will correct you.
01:07:06.079 --> 01:07:13.119
But it's N-E-A-L-E Donald Walsh, W-A-L-S-C-H, neildonaldwalsh.com.
01:07:13.360 --> 01:07:14.320
And I'm right there.
01:07:14.400 --> 01:07:17.920
I check my email four times a day.
01:07:19.679 --> 01:07:20.800
Nice, yes.
01:07:21.039 --> 01:07:23.360
Okay, all right, so that's amazing.
01:07:23.599 --> 01:07:28.159
Um, Neil, this was such a beautiful conversation.
01:07:28.320 --> 01:07:29.199
I love it.
01:07:29.440 --> 01:07:40.559
Um, so Neil reminds us that transformation isn't about becoming someone new, it's about remembering who you truly are beneath the fear, the judgment, and the conditioning.
01:07:40.800 --> 01:07:50.719
His latest book, Letters to Young Seeker, offer timeless reflections that invite us to slow down, listen deeply, and live with greater intention.
01:07:51.119 --> 01:08:00.079
So if this conversation resonated with you, be sure to pick up a copy of the book and share this episode with someone who may need to hear these words of encouragement.
01:08:00.239 --> 01:08:02.239
And there is a lot of great nuggets here.
01:08:02.400 --> 01:08:12.480
In the show notes, I'll also link out to my previous conversation with Neil because there's a whole bunch of other good nuggets on that one, too.
01:08:12.800 --> 01:08:20.640
So every share helps us bring up more conversations that transform our lives.
01:08:21.199 --> 01:08:25.279
So, Neil, as we wrap up, any final thoughts?
01:08:26.880 --> 01:08:42.880
The only final thought I would have is choose to use every moment of your life as an announcement of who you are and choose to know who you are as an individuation of divinity.
01:08:44.239 --> 01:08:49.359
Yes, so beautiful, so beautiful, yes, because you know what?
01:08:49.600 --> 01:08:54.399
Most of us do not know who we are, we just go with the flow every day.
01:08:54.479 --> 01:08:58.319
We wake up and we go onto the hamster wheel, we go to work, we come home.
01:08:58.560 --> 01:09:01.439
We're living a we're living a case of mistaken identity.
01:09:01.920 --> 01:09:08.560
Yeah, yeah, that too, that too, yes, yes, yes, and we're never really conscious, right?
01:09:08.880 --> 01:09:15.279
So, yes, I love the idea behind your book, um, Letters to a Young Seeker.
01:09:15.439 --> 01:09:44.319
That is amazing, yes, because you go pick up that book and it feels like your mind is blown because of the fact that, you know, all this conversations and questions that Neil has had with God and all, you know, his life story before he met God and the conversations and and after that, it's all put together in one concise book that you can learn from.
01:09:44.399 --> 01:09:51.039
And I will definitely pick up a copy of it and give it to my children because they're young seekers as well.
01:09:51.199 --> 01:09:53.199
So thank you, Neil, for being on the show.
01:09:53.359 --> 01:09:58.399
Thank you, Transformers, for tuning in um to this week's episode.
01:09:58.640 --> 01:10:06.800
Remember to share and review and comment if you have something you want to comment on on what we talked about today.
01:10:06.960 --> 01:10:09.520
Until next time, thank you again for tuning in.
01:10:09.680 --> 01:10:10.479
Thank you, Neil.
01:10:10.640 --> 01:10:11.439
Namaste.
01:10:13.359 --> 01:10:14.560
You're very welcome.
01:10:14.720 --> 01:10:15.520
God bless.
01:10:15.840 --> 01:10:16.800
God bless.
01:10:18.000 --> 01:10:18.640
Yes.
01:10:20.079 --> 01:10:20.800
Hang on.
01:10:23.039 --> 01:10:24.960
