TENTANG EPISODE INI
Today I have the privilege of talking to Richard Shell, author of The Conscience Code.
Richard, a senior faculty member and Chair of the Legal Studies and Business Ethics department at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and author of the forthcoming book, The Conscience Code: Lead with Your Values. Advance Your Career. [HarperCollins Leadership - June 8, 2021].
Shell has noticed a disturbing trend in recent years: more and more MBA students are arriving at Wharton as “ethics refugees,” who have quit their post-college jobs after being pressured to engage in unethical, sometimes illegal behavior they knew to be wrong. Nobody prepared them for the tough conflicts over values that are an increasing problem in professional life. With The Conscience Code, Shell aims to do just that.
- Shell is a skilled communicator across many diverse audiences. His students have included everyone from Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and Fortune 500 CEOs to FBI hostage negotiators, Navy SEALs, and United Nations peacekeepers. In addition, he has worked extensively with public school teachers, labor unions, nurses, and hospital administrators to help them become more effective professionals.
- Shell’s previous award-winning books have collectively sold over 500,000 copies in 17 foreign language editions. His books include Bargaining for Advantage: Negotiation Strategies for Reasonable People, The Art of Woo: Using Strategic Persuasion to Sell Your Ideas, and Springboard: Launching Your Personal Search for Success (Portfolio, 2013).
- The book is endorsed by Yancey Strickler, Cofounder and Former CEO of Kickstarter; Tim Erblich, CEO of Ethisphere Institute and Former President of NYSE Governance Services; Daniel H. Pink, Author of WHEN, DRIVE, and TO SELL IS HUMAN; F. William McNabb, Former Chairman and CEO of Vanguard
- Driven by dramatic, real-world examples from Shell’s classroom, today’s headlines, and classic cases of corporate wrongdoing, The Conscience Code shows how to create positive, values-based workplaces where everyone can thrive.
