Packers Total Access: 🔴 LIVE BREAKING: HUGE PACKERS NEWS — Josh Jacobs Is Back! How Soon Will He Play?

BREAKING RIGHT NOW — Adam Schefter just confirmed it and the NFL made it official: Josh Jacobs is being removed from the Commissioner’s Exempt List on Monday, October 20th — making him eligible to return to practice with the Packers next week and PLAY in the Week 7 road game against the Detroit Lions on October 25th! Jacobs has missed the Packers’ first six games of the 2026 season — placed on the exempt list on August 30th after pleading no contest to misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property stemming from the May incident — and the team that ranks dead last in the NFL in rushing yards per game is about to get its most important individual offensive weapon back at the most critical moment of the entire season! The NFL’s investigation under the Personal Conduct Policy remains open — league spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed “The league’s review remains ongoing and is not affected by this change to Jacobs’ roster status” — meaning a suspension is still possible in the future. But for now, Jacobs is BACK. He will miss Sunday Night Football against the Cowboys. He CAN play October 25th at Detroit. And the 2026 Green Bay Packers championship window just got dramatically, definitively, and immediately better. Let’s go.

In this complete Josh Jacobs is BACK breaking news reaction and full how-soon-will-he-play breakdown, we dive into:

• The Breaking News — What The NFL’s Official Statement Means: The NFL announced Friday afternoon that Jacobs will be removed from the Commissioner’s Exempt List on Monday, October 20th — the Monday before the Week 7 game at Detroit. He is eligible to return to practice immediately once the roster status changes and to play against the Lions on October 25th. The CBA provision remains in place: time spent on the exempt list is credited toward any future suspension the NFL may impose — meaning the six weeks Jacobs has already served count toward the baseline six-game domestic violence suspension if the league later issues one. The investigation remains open because the NFL is still seeking the garage surveillance video that Jacobs and the victim are jointly attempting to keep sealed through the civil lawsuit filed Wednesday. But Jacobs is back — and the Packers are not waiting.
• How Soon Will He Play? — The Week 7 Detroit Reality: Jacobs missed six weeks of football — the entire first month and a half of the 2026 season — without practicing a single snap. The Packers’ team facilities were available to him for individual workouts and rehabilitation during the exempt list period per the NFL’s rules, and Jacobs was presumably conditioning throughout his absence. But game-speed football conditioning and a team offensive installation at the position that demands the most contact — running back — requires practice repetitions before a player is ready for regular-season competition. LaFleur said during training camp that he fully anticipated Jacobs “being a member of our team” — and the Packers’ Week 7 game at Detroit is a winnable road divisional game where the return of the best running back in the NFC North would change everything about how Matt LaFleur designs his offensive game plan.
• What Jacobs Returns To — The Packers’ Ground Game Reality: Green Bay ranks dead last in the NFL in rushing yards per game — averaging roughly 50 to 60 yards on the ground through the first five or six games. MarShawn Lloyd is the current starter and has produced the individual highlights of the year — two touchdowns against the Bears, the hurdle play against the Buccaneers — but averages less than 3.5 yards per carry over the full season. Kaleb Johnson has the explosive ceiling — the 31-yard burst in Tampa — but has not been the consistent individual presence the offense needs. Chris Brooks was averaging 4.7 yards per carry before his season-ending ankle injury. Pierre Strong Jr. is the current backup. And Josh Jacobs — who produced 929 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in 2025 and has been the Packers’ most important individual offensive player not named Jordan Love — returns to a running back room that desperately needs him.
• The Championship Window Impact — What Jacobs Changes Everything: The Green Bay Packers are 3-2 heading into Sunday Night Football against the Cowboys — with the most complete passing offense in the NFC North, the defense that is 5th in the league in passing yards allowed, and a ground game that has been the single most consistent individual weakness on the entire roster since September 13th. Jacobs returning in Week 7 gives LaFleur the run-pass balance that the Cowboys’ 10-days-of-rest defensive preparation has specifically been designed to attack on Sunday night. It gives the offense the play-action threat that unlocks every deep ball Watson and Golden have been catching — because play-action only works when the defense respects the run. And it gives Jordan Love the individual offensive support that turns a good quarterback in a flow state into a championship-caliber quarterback in the most complete offensive system in the NFC.
• The Full Breaking News Picture — And What Comes Next: Jacobs is removed from the exempt list Monday. He is eligible to practice next week. He can play October 25th at Detroit. The NFL investigation remains open and a suspension is still possible — but the six weeks already served on the exempt list count toward any future suspension. Sunday Night Football against the Cowboys happens tomorrow night without Jacobs. Week 7 at Detroit happens with him. The championship window is real, the roster is getting healthier, and the 2026 Green Bay Packers just got dramatically better in the most important individual roster announcement of the entire season.
