TENTANG EPISODE INI
Some childhood toys are sweet little reminders of simpler times.
And some childhood toys stare directly into your soul.
Today on Liquid Courage & Curiosities, we're meeting a very special vintage doll who has been part of my mom's life since childhood. She was one of her favorite toys, right alongside Raggedy Ann, and she's been lovingly kept all these years.
So obviously… I have questions.
Because this doll has HUGE eyes and can easily beat me in a staring contest, hands down.
She doesn't blink... But I guess most dolls don't... or shouldn't, I guess I should say!
And I swear those eyes have been following me around the room since I was a kid. In fact, I specifically remember one of my elementary school friends coming over, noticing the doll, and the two of us independently reaching the same conclusion:
“Okay… she's looking at us.” 😂
But underneath the creepy eyes and questionable surveillance abilities, there's a really sweet story about a beloved childhood toy that's survived for decades.
We'll talk about why vintage dolls can give us that wonderfully unsettling feeling, conduct a very unofficial Ghost Hunter Investigation, and attempt to determine whether this little lady is actually haunted…
or simply REALLY good at maintaining eye contact.
And of course, no questionable antique would be complete without a drink.
For this episode, we're pouring something that feels like an elegant Victorian tea party that may have taken a slightly suspicious turn.
Cocktail:
- Chilled Earl Grey tea
- Vodka
- Vanilla syrup
- Rosewater
- Oat milk
- Optional pistachio syrup
- Ice
- Dried rose petals for garnish
Mocktail:
- Chilled Earl Grey tea
- Vanilla syrup
- Rosewater
- Oat milk
- Optional pistachio syrup
- Ice
- Dried rose petals for garnish
And the pistachio is completely optional! If you don't have pistachio syrup, pistachio butter can also work as an alternative. And if nuts aren't your thing, simply leave the pistachio out altogether—the rose, vanilla, Earl Grey and creamy oat milk still make a lovely little tea-party drink.
My awesome hubby also lent his voice to the intro and gave his official thoughts on The Dollhouse Tea Party, because apparently every questionable beverage needs a second opinion. 😂
So grab yourself a drink, settle in, and whatever you do…
don't make direct eye contact with the doll.
She already knows you're there. 👁️
Have a weird antique? Strange family heirloom? Bizarre curiosity? Something sitting in your house that makes you say, “Okay… WHY do we still have this?”
I want to hear about it!
