00:00:00.240 --> 00:00:03.960
Kelvin, I have a question to ask you.
2
00:00:04.000 --> 00:00:07.400
Why won't you love me? The winder? I love you.
3
00:00:09.320 --> 00:00:10.279
I'm gonna go now.
4
00:00:13.359 --> 00:00:14.279
Let's talk about it.
5
00:00:24.600 --> 00:00:28.640
Hello there, Clapperheads, and welcome to a brand new edition
6
00:00:28.879 --> 00:00:33.039
of Clapper Talks. I'm Nigdorian and I'm Keivin Tate, and.
7
00:00:32.880 --> 00:00:34.640
We have missed you. I have missed all of you
8
00:00:34.799 --> 00:00:35.159
very much.
9
00:00:35.240 --> 00:00:37.119
It's not being so obsessed with them.
10
00:00:36.920 --> 00:00:40.079
I'm very obsessed, right because you know that's exactly what
11
00:00:40.079 --> 00:00:42.840
we're going to be talking about, exactly, obsession.
12
00:00:44.079 --> 00:00:46.960
Have you ever actually like flirted with NICKI, I'm gonna
13
00:00:46.960 --> 00:00:49.000
get some shocks. I'll come with you if she means
14
00:00:49.000 --> 00:00:54.119
this much to you, and I know she does, say Nikki,
15
00:00:54.560 --> 00:00:56.479
I think we shoul grab a drink sometimes. I thank
16
00:00:56.479 --> 00:00:58.679
you for someone who don't like horror movie. I loved
17
00:00:58.880 --> 00:01:00.600
every minute of the Day film.
18
00:01:00.439 --> 00:01:04.560
Exactly when you told me, have I watched Obsession? I'm like, wait,
19
00:01:05.120 --> 00:01:11.200
is Calvin Day the scaredy can watching Obsession?
20
00:01:11.439 --> 00:01:11.799
See?
21
00:01:11.840 --> 00:01:15.239
This kind of further proves that I'm not afraid of
22
00:01:15.480 --> 00:01:18.840
this kind of thriller films. I just don't like supernatural stuff.
23
00:01:19.000 --> 00:01:22.439
Yeah, I think because this is totally different from what
24
00:01:22.519 --> 00:01:24.359
I did mention in my previous video about like, you know,
25
00:01:24.439 --> 00:01:27.439
conjuring the nuts, those kind of horror way. You know,
26
00:01:27.599 --> 00:01:30.560
they really rely on the jump scares and supernatural stuff.
27
00:01:31.239 --> 00:01:35.040
This is just pure psychological dread. Correct.
28
00:01:35.439 --> 00:01:38.959
So if you haven't you know, been on the internet
29
00:01:39.079 --> 00:01:42.959
or been living under a Obsession is Curry Barker's latest film,
30
00:01:43.239 --> 00:01:45.120
which has basically taken.
31
00:01:44.799 --> 00:01:45.920
The world by storm.
32
00:01:46.319 --> 00:01:47.959
And one thing that I want to start off by
33
00:01:48.000 --> 00:01:51.439
mentioning is that Curry Barker made this film for seven
34
00:01:51.519 --> 00:01:53.400
hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
35
00:01:53.079 --> 00:01:56.000
And I just changed this morning, Yeah, four hundred and
36
00:01:56.319 --> 00:01:58.040
three million.
37
00:01:58.840 --> 00:02:03.239
Domestic and global, Yes, which then makes it the most
38
00:02:03.439 --> 00:02:05.000
profitable film.
39
00:02:05.120 --> 00:02:08.520
And it has also broken a fifty year record of
40
00:02:08.639 --> 00:02:09.960
Bruce Lease's.
41
00:02:12.639 --> 00:02:14.960
And the drag the drinking is.
42
00:02:15.319 --> 00:02:20.800
But this just proves independent filmmakers gain Curry Baker, Kane
43
00:02:20.800 --> 00:02:24.840
Parsons to a certain extent, marketplier as well. They are
44
00:02:24.960 --> 00:02:27.800
shaking up the horror industry. They definitely have.
45
00:02:28.039 --> 00:02:30.919
They definitely have, especially with the budget that they have. Yes,
46
00:02:31.039 --> 00:02:34.120
the acting, like let's let's not even start going into
47
00:02:34.319 --> 00:02:37.439
like the casting crew of Obsession itself, right, just talking
48
00:02:37.479 --> 00:02:41.159
about indie films that is made by YouTube. YouTube bersla,
49
00:02:41.479 --> 00:02:45.039
youtubeers la. Dude, they are eating good men.
50
00:02:44.960 --> 00:02:49.879
Because this is what happens when you allow creatives to
51
00:02:50.000 --> 00:02:53.360
do what they do best. They're not, you know, constrained
52
00:02:53.400 --> 00:02:56.319
by a big budget and to deliver something brilliant for
53
00:02:56.360 --> 00:02:58.400
the studio so that the studios can make tons of
54
00:02:58.439 --> 00:02:59.039
money off it.
55
00:02:59.280 --> 00:03:01.800
These are films that they actually want to make.
56
00:03:02.039 --> 00:03:04.479
The only winner I feel like out of all of
57
00:03:04.520 --> 00:03:08.080
this success from obsession is Bloomholes.
58
00:03:08.199 --> 00:03:12.439
Yes, Mark God because like such a small budget, but
59
00:03:12.520 --> 00:03:15.240
we like ten twenty times much.
60
00:03:15.479 --> 00:03:16.159
We've owned back.
61
00:03:16.439 --> 00:03:20.199
Now, if you, like Nick say, have been under living
62
00:03:20.280 --> 00:03:23.599
under the rock. You have not opened social media at all, YouTube,
63
00:03:23.840 --> 00:03:28.479
anything social media related. You probably don't know what obsession is.
64
00:03:28.800 --> 00:03:31.919
So for you behind the box of what obsession is
65
00:03:32.280 --> 00:03:35.919
the DVD after breaking the mysterious one, wish Willow to
66
00:03:36.000 --> 00:03:39.400
win his crushes Hard, a hopeless romantic, find himself getting
67
00:03:39.479 --> 00:03:42.240
exactly what he asks for, but he soon discovers that
68
00:03:42.280 --> 00:03:46.120
he's He soon discovers that some desires come at a
69
00:03:46.240 --> 00:03:49.199
dark sinister price, and.
70
00:03:49.159 --> 00:03:51.759
Dark sinister is a great way of saying it. Speaking
71
00:03:51.759 --> 00:03:53.639
of which, do you know you can buy a one Wish.
72
00:03:53.439 --> 00:03:55.800
Willow yes, I know there's a whole website of.
73
00:03:55.759 --> 00:04:04.479
It wish but would you buy it?
74
00:04:05.520 --> 00:04:07.199
I would, but I would never break it, I would
75
00:04:07.199 --> 00:04:09.039
never use it, just have it on the shelf. No,
76
00:04:09.159 --> 00:04:12.960
this is a displace. I probably would by asking for
77
00:04:13.039 --> 00:04:16.360
a billion dollars. Yeah, but you see, there's always going
78
00:04:16.439 --> 00:04:17.360
to be a cost.
79
00:04:16.920 --> 00:04:21.279
Exactly where did the money come from? Ah, So with that,
80
00:04:21.439 --> 00:04:25.000
we're gonna jump into our review, our takes, and what
81
00:04:25.120 --> 00:04:28.759
we feel about the movie or session right after this.
82
00:04:35.800 --> 00:04:37.560
Now, first thing that I want to talk about with
83
00:04:37.600 --> 00:04:41.360
this film is the way that you should experience the film.
84
00:04:41.639 --> 00:04:43.360
Like a lot of people say, oh, you should go
85
00:04:43.360 --> 00:04:44.879
and watch it in the cinema, but to be fair,
86
00:04:44.920 --> 00:04:46.360
as some things, you can just watch it at home
87
00:04:46.399 --> 00:04:49.720
and whatnot. No, this is a film you need to
88
00:04:49.839 --> 00:04:52.560
watch in the cinema purely based on the fact that
89
00:04:52.600 --> 00:04:55.319
you need to be immersed in it. That is part
90
00:04:55.480 --> 00:04:59.639
of the horror, that sinking, eerie feeling like that claust
91
00:04:59.639 --> 00:05:02.600
to pu feeling, that bare feels as well.
92
00:05:02.720 --> 00:05:04.639
That you just cannot escape.
93
00:05:04.959 --> 00:05:07.120
You can't run away to your phone, you can't run
94
00:05:07.120 --> 00:05:10.040
away and look at you know something else outside of
95
00:05:10.040 --> 00:05:14.560
the screen. You are forced to witness this car crash
96
00:05:14.839 --> 00:05:16.959
of a relationship in real time.
97
00:05:17.160 --> 00:05:20.519
It's a very nice analogy for the film because throughout
98
00:05:20.560 --> 00:05:22.120
the entire movie, I think it.
99
00:05:22.079 --> 00:05:26.199
Was one hour, one hour, two.
100
00:05:26.120 --> 00:05:29.680
Hours, right close to two hours, close to two hours.
101
00:05:29.360 --> 00:05:31.000
The entire time.
102
00:05:31.399 --> 00:05:33.399
Like what I've written down in my review is like,
103
00:05:33.720 --> 00:05:39.160
it's that underneath your skins, uneasiness, anxiety that is just
104
00:05:39.360 --> 00:05:44.480
filled you with claustrophobic dread of like shit, I know
105
00:05:44.639 --> 00:05:45.319
what's coming.
106
00:05:46.240 --> 00:05:48.439
I expected, but when.
107
00:05:48.279 --> 00:05:51.720
It happens, I'm like, because there's still a part of
108
00:05:51.759 --> 00:05:53.199
you that goes, I hope it doesn't.
109
00:05:53.279 --> 00:05:55.839
Please do not go that with peace. By the end
110
00:05:55.879 --> 00:05:59.199
of the film, I literally, I'm not even joking. I
111
00:05:59.240 --> 00:06:01.279
started the films how I was just now.
112
00:06:01.160 --> 00:06:02.360
By the end of the film, I was like this,
113
00:06:04.000 --> 00:06:07.639
and when the credits rolled, I literally could not speak.
114
00:06:07.680 --> 00:06:11.040
I was like, are you spoilless?
115
00:06:11.199 --> 00:06:13.519
I mean, at this point, it's been out for a while,
116
00:06:13.600 --> 00:06:16.600
so yeah, this is gonna be a spoiler film episode when.
117
00:06:16.480 --> 00:06:18.839
You're talking about when you're talking about the credits, right,
118
00:06:19.360 --> 00:06:22.160
like when the when the nd screen pops out, all
119
00:06:22.279 --> 00:06:27.000
you hear is her just wailing and frying, just reflecting
120
00:06:27.040 --> 00:06:31.360
after everything around her, everything that she's done, and oh
121
00:06:31.560 --> 00:06:34.839
that that was a very good ending.
122
00:06:35.120 --> 00:06:35.519
It was.
123
00:06:35.639 --> 00:06:38.480
It also reminds me of the end credits scene for
124
00:06:38.600 --> 00:06:41.759
Smile Too. You haven't want a smile to, but the
125
00:06:41.839 --> 00:06:43.920
end credits are smiled To and it lasts for a
126
00:06:43.959 --> 00:06:48.920
good six seven minutes. It's just the lead character crying
127
00:06:49.240 --> 00:06:54.240
and wailing for a good seven minutes and there's no music, nothing,
128
00:06:54.800 --> 00:06:58.720
It's just that and it's haunting. So for Obsession to
129
00:06:58.759 --> 00:07:02.040
sort of follow in that foote feels like that is
130
00:07:02.079 --> 00:07:06.439
the perfect way to close this film. Now, another thing
131
00:07:06.439 --> 00:07:09.360
that I really enjoy about this film is again the
132
00:07:09.399 --> 00:07:13.360
way that it was shot and away the makeup and
133
00:07:13.439 --> 00:07:16.800
practical effects one at the end of the day because
134
00:07:16.959 --> 00:07:21.600
zero CGI, zero fancy special effects. There is this what
135
00:07:21.720 --> 00:07:25.480
I discovered later on on on TikTok and Whatnot is
136
00:07:27.279 --> 00:07:31.319
Nikki's makeup. Oh yeah, that scene when she's hiding in
137
00:07:31.360 --> 00:07:36.879
the shadows where you know why, there's this uncanny valley
138
00:07:36.959 --> 00:07:39.680
look that they were going for. And I love that
139
00:07:39.759 --> 00:07:44.319
because it gives that sense of something It looks normal
140
00:07:44.439 --> 00:07:47.279
but not quite normal, but not not that.
141
00:07:47.439 --> 00:07:50.000
It's just it's a lot of light plays, a lot
142
00:07:50.000 --> 00:07:50.800
of makeup play.
143
00:07:50.839 --> 00:07:52.120
It's a lot of just art.
144
00:07:52.639 --> 00:07:54.160
I'm indie never.
145
00:07:56.240 --> 00:07:58.360
Like she wins the whole movie for me because this
146
00:07:58.480 --> 00:08:02.000
one clip I found on Red that where it was
147
00:08:02.040 --> 00:08:05.759
the bar scene and then she was talking, and the
148
00:08:05.800 --> 00:08:09.079
title of that is like Hollywood actress could never because
149
00:08:09.079 --> 00:08:11.800
they have so much boot talks on it. It's basically
150
00:08:12.000 --> 00:08:16.600
in this facial reaction and she's able to pull off
151
00:08:16.639 --> 00:08:19.279
like eight different reactions in just two seconds.
152
00:08:19.399 --> 00:08:23.439
Yes, and I'm like, wow, even when she smiles and
153
00:08:23.480 --> 00:08:26.600
she squints her eyes and this forced smile again, it's
154
00:08:26.639 --> 00:08:28.680
that I don't know how she does it. But again
155
00:08:28.800 --> 00:08:31.519
Uncanny Valley, like it looks like she's smiling, but there's
156
00:08:31.560 --> 00:08:35.919
something evil. But find this and oh, I want to
157
00:08:35.960 --> 00:08:39.240
talk about the story itself, this obsession, Like I want
158
00:08:39.240 --> 00:08:41.799
to put the cast aside for the time being because
159
00:08:42.080 --> 00:08:43.039
I want to talk about the plot.
160
00:08:43.039 --> 00:08:44.080
I want to talk about story.
161
00:08:44.440 --> 00:08:46.519
You have this what I like.
162
00:08:46.519 --> 00:08:48.679
To coin weak men.
163
00:08:49.360 --> 00:08:54.799
That Yeah, that is confiding in his best friend who
164
00:08:54.879 --> 00:08:59.279
is slipping with his love interest. Yes, right, And this
165
00:08:59.360 --> 00:09:03.039
guy has in love or like having a crush on
166
00:09:03.840 --> 00:09:06.120
his girl for the longest time, but he don't have
167
00:09:06.200 --> 00:09:09.679
the guts to actually confess or tell her how he
168
00:09:09.759 --> 00:09:12.360
truly feels, and whenever it's brought up, he just brushed
169
00:09:12.480 --> 00:09:14.799
off with the haha, we're just friends, you know. And
170
00:09:16.120 --> 00:09:19.559
what he did instead of confronting his fears is he
171
00:09:19.600 --> 00:09:20.240
went to a.
172
00:09:20.320 --> 00:09:23.240
Crystal store and he wanted to buy a crystal.
173
00:09:23.960 --> 00:09:28.399
And that is where it got me, because he went
174
00:09:28.480 --> 00:09:31.120
in the crystal store to buy a crystal for the
175
00:09:31.120 --> 00:09:34.879
girl that he likes, but he left the store with
176
00:09:34.960 --> 00:09:38.799
a one wish willow, which is basically for him for
177
00:09:38.919 --> 00:09:42.399
him right, So that to me sets up the entire
178
00:09:42.480 --> 00:09:47.360
film of like what he should do and what he
179
00:09:47.399 --> 00:09:51.000
shouldn't do, and that is basically the plot.
180
00:09:51.240 --> 00:09:51.519
To me.
181
00:09:52.960 --> 00:09:57.080
Bear is honestly the big villain in this film because
182
00:09:57.120 --> 00:10:01.919
it really showcases the you know, we are men, but
183
00:10:02.279 --> 00:10:05.240
the shallowness of some men at times that they think
184
00:10:05.360 --> 00:10:09.159
more about themselves than anyone else. And Bear is honestly
185
00:10:09.200 --> 00:10:11.759
the perfect example of that. And you bring up that
186
00:10:11.840 --> 00:10:14.679
good point like going into buying something for Nicki but
187
00:10:14.840 --> 00:10:18.279
ending up buying something purely for himself so that Nikki
188
00:10:18.360 --> 00:10:22.639
can love him. It's very self absorbed, very self obsessed,
189
00:10:23.240 --> 00:10:27.399
and that to me is the biggest takeaway on this.
190
00:10:27.759 --> 00:10:30.120
Of like men do better.
191
00:10:30.279 --> 00:10:35.960
Lot really because Nikki goes through so much shit for this.
192
00:10:36.159 --> 00:10:38.559
Because throughout the entire film, right, there was this one,
193
00:10:38.759 --> 00:10:40.840
one small part in the movie where he called the
194
00:10:40.879 --> 00:10:43.799
helpline and I would like to think that it's like
195
00:10:43.879 --> 00:10:46.360
a genie that that is, you know, it's like a
196
00:10:46.440 --> 00:10:47.399
geny hotline.
197
00:10:47.559 --> 00:10:49.720
Yeah, yeah, I mean the wich kind of fucked up.
198
00:10:49.720 --> 00:10:53.360
Well, yeah, wish And then you hear Niki in the background
199
00:10:53.840 --> 00:10:57.080
and it's like, oh, you feel so sorry for this girl.
200
00:10:57.159 --> 00:10:59.840
When that scene popped up, the only thing I could
201
00:10:59.840 --> 00:11:04.519
talk think about was from the movie US No Sorry.
202
00:11:04.279 --> 00:11:09.320
Get Out, where he's trapped inside.
203
00:11:08.840 --> 00:11:11.600
Right, He's he's he's seeing from an internal point of
204
00:11:11.759 --> 00:11:14.240
view from his brain to the eyes of someone controlling
205
00:11:14.279 --> 00:11:14.879
his body.
206
00:11:15.159 --> 00:11:16.600
And that was eavy as hell.
207
00:11:16.759 --> 00:11:20.200
And this is exactly what I kind of feel watching
208
00:11:20.240 --> 00:11:24.600
this this film, because let's just put Niki in aside. Okay,
209
00:11:24.879 --> 00:11:29.320
there is Nikki and freaking Nikki. Yeah, okay, and freaking
210
00:11:29.399 --> 00:11:32.240
Nikki is what I like to think that the wish
211
00:11:32.320 --> 00:11:35.320
made and Nikki is just Nikki I do the film,
212
00:11:35.360 --> 00:11:37.679
you can see these two characters kind of like fighting
213
00:11:37.720 --> 00:11:41.639
each other for control, and well kind of leads to
214
00:11:42.159 --> 00:11:46.919
a very amazing yet scary, eerie feeling of you know,
215
00:11:47.000 --> 00:11:48.879
she's okay, and then she's not, and then she's okay,
216
00:11:48.919 --> 00:11:50.919
and then she's not, and then she starts hurting herself
217
00:11:50.919 --> 00:11:53.679
and then she start doing things that no normal people do,
218
00:11:54.120 --> 00:11:55.799
and yeah, no.
219
00:11:55.960 --> 00:11:56.440
I get it.
220
00:11:56.480 --> 00:12:00.600
Like that scene when she's asleep, Like whenever she's freaking
221
00:12:00.639 --> 00:12:03.879
Niki is asleep, that's when real Niki has a chance
222
00:12:03.919 --> 00:12:07.200
to voice out. And when you realize that is real
223
00:12:07.279 --> 00:12:10.120
Niki voicing out, Oh, that was so creepy to me,
224
00:12:10.679 --> 00:12:15.039
like calling for help. You feel that desperation, you feel
225
00:12:15.039 --> 00:12:18.879
that helplessness, and you put yourselves in her shoes, like
226
00:12:19.120 --> 00:12:22.120
you're in a body that you have no control of anymore,
227
00:12:22.440 --> 00:12:24.320
and you're so desperate to come out.
228
00:12:24.840 --> 00:12:25.000
Now.
229
00:12:25.000 --> 00:12:26.720
Another thing that I want to point out as well
230
00:12:26.799 --> 00:12:31.399
is the ending, which again still showcases how shit Bear
231
00:12:31.600 --> 00:12:35.080
is because when he takes the pills, when he shoots himself,
232
00:12:35.639 --> 00:12:39.720
he's still not doing it for her to release.
233
00:12:39.440 --> 00:12:40.240
Her from the spell.
234
00:12:40.519 --> 00:12:42.919
He's doing it because he can't take it anymore, and
235
00:12:42.960 --> 00:12:45.879
he just wants to end things. So to me, a
236
00:12:45.919 --> 00:12:47.679
lot of people have been going, oh, he did it
237
00:12:47.720 --> 00:12:50.559
for Niki. No he didn't, No, he didn't he did
238
00:12:50.639 --> 00:12:55.279
it for himself. Men of shit, man a shit and
239
00:12:55.320 --> 00:12:57.080
this is a pure example of that. At the end
240
00:12:57.080 --> 00:13:00.840
of the day, I think, like obsession really is men
241
00:13:00.960 --> 00:13:02.159
are ship the movies.
242
00:13:04.480 --> 00:13:07.440
And then there's also another spectrum of the film where
243
00:13:08.000 --> 00:13:11.080
you know the cast and crew. Okay, not not the crew,
244
00:13:11.120 --> 00:13:15.399
but the cast itself, right, I'm talking about Michael Johnston,
245
00:13:16.039 --> 00:13:25.159
Indie neverte Cooper, Tom Tom Lindsen, Tomlinson, Meghan Lawless who
246
00:13:25.159 --> 00:13:27.639
plays Sarahyan and and all of them.
247
00:13:28.200 --> 00:13:30.279
It's a small cost of just practically.
248
00:13:30.639 --> 00:13:34.039
And then there's the lil right, yes, you know, and
249
00:13:34.159 --> 00:13:36.480
they Richie Hayley everyone else.
250
00:13:36.879 --> 00:13:37.600
But but just.
251
00:13:37.519 --> 00:13:40.600
Focusing on the four main casts itself, I would say
252
00:13:40.799 --> 00:13:45.840
for an Indie production like this, the cast was amazing
253
00:13:45.960 --> 00:13:48.559
because just just take India.
254
00:13:48.320 --> 00:13:50.679
Side Indy is really the style of show him.
255
00:13:51.200 --> 00:13:51.360
Right.
256
00:13:51.639 --> 00:13:54.840
You have Michael who plays back, Cooper who plays Ian.
257
00:13:55.159 --> 00:13:57.120
I mean Cooper.
258
00:13:57.399 --> 00:14:00.240
Thomlinson is someone that you see on YouTube and all
259
00:14:00.240 --> 00:14:03.919
the skids you can see his acting. It's it's there, yeah, right.
260
00:14:04.159 --> 00:14:07.879
But there's also people like Meghan Lawless for example. I
261
00:14:08.080 --> 00:14:10.159
don't think I've ever seen her in anything.
262
00:14:09.799 --> 00:14:14.399
Before me neither, I think, but oh she was fantastic
263
00:14:14.399 --> 00:14:17.200
because she at the end of the day really loves Bear.
264
00:14:18.159 --> 00:14:20.919
And that scene at the party as well, like you
265
00:14:21.000 --> 00:14:26.279
really get to understand that Meghan, that's her name, is it?
266
00:14:26.320 --> 00:14:26.840
What's her name?
267
00:14:26.840 --> 00:14:28.360
In Megan Sarah?
268
00:14:28.399 --> 00:14:32.440
Sarah really cares and loves Ben, just wants him to
269
00:14:32.480 --> 00:14:36.399
be protected and do better. But you know Beer is
270
00:14:36.440 --> 00:14:39.799
so obsessed with Nikki that he never realizes that. And
271
00:14:40.120 --> 00:14:44.919
that scene I felt so much heart felt paid when
272
00:14:44.960 --> 00:14:47.960
she gets her head just destroyed by Nikki.
273
00:14:48.559 --> 00:14:50.639
You know I saw that coming from a Malloway, so
274
00:14:50.799 --> 00:14:53.759
did I, but just like, but when it happened, right,
275
00:14:53.840 --> 00:14:57.799
I was just there. Like the scene cuts off and
276
00:14:57.799 --> 00:15:00.679
then all you hear the thuds and the push and
277
00:15:00.759 --> 00:15:03.039
it depends back again and then you see her face
278
00:15:03.080 --> 00:15:04.039
all smashed in.
279
00:15:04.240 --> 00:15:07.039
All that and it's just like her eyeballs and and.
280
00:15:08.399 --> 00:15:11.600
Fun fact, in an interview that Megan did recently, there
281
00:15:11.639 --> 00:15:13.639
is a director's cut coming up a session with I
282
00:15:13.639 --> 00:15:17.440
think another ten more minutes of footage. That scene, the
283
00:15:17.480 --> 00:15:21.799
head smash apparently is a lot longer. It just stays
284
00:15:21.840 --> 00:15:24.720
on the smash for a lot longer. So you know,
285
00:15:24.919 --> 00:15:27.039
stand by for the director's cut because we're probably going
286
00:15:27.080 --> 00:15:28.720
to get a minute, a minute and a half of.
287
00:15:28.759 --> 00:15:34.000
Just that was brutal.
288
00:15:34.720 --> 00:15:36.799
But I agree with you, you see it coming, but
289
00:15:36.919 --> 00:15:41.080
you're also like okay, stop, oh stop, okay, okay, like
290
00:15:41.159 --> 00:15:44.360
you don't see the extent, like you know she's going
291
00:15:44.399 --> 00:15:47.759
to get her head smashed, but it goes so much more.
292
00:15:47.919 --> 00:15:50.360
And I think that is the genius about it, Like
293
00:15:50.720 --> 00:15:54.240
you see it coming, but it's so much more than
294
00:15:54.279 --> 00:15:59.600
what you expect and so much more terrifying and traumatic.
295
00:15:59.039 --> 00:16:00.720
Than what you expect.
296
00:16:01.000 --> 00:16:06.399
Now, closing up the whole film as a whole, when
297
00:16:06.440 --> 00:16:09.399
would you put it on our ever loving clap of
298
00:16:09.440 --> 00:16:09.960
met I.
299
00:16:09.879 --> 00:16:15.679
Would say, honestly speaking, yes, this movie is overrated and overhyped,
300
00:16:15.919 --> 00:16:20.080
all right, Okay, it is not as good as everyone
301
00:16:20.240 --> 00:16:25.120
says it is. Is not Interstellar by all of that
302
00:16:25.200 --> 00:16:29.480
aside knowing that this is an indie film made by YouTubers,
303
00:16:30.039 --> 00:16:31.519
I'm giving it a ten out of ten.
304
00:16:31.600 --> 00:16:34.960
Same because that, to me, is what gives it the
305
00:16:34.960 --> 00:16:36.759
ten out of ten. Like, yes, you can compare to
306
00:16:36.799 --> 00:16:39.559
Interstellar and all these big budget films, but I don't
307
00:16:39.559 --> 00:16:42.279
put it in that category because it just they don't
308
00:16:42.279 --> 00:16:46.080
have the same budget and whatnot. But what they delivered
309
00:16:46.240 --> 00:16:51.120
for seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars again blows any
310
00:16:51.159 --> 00:16:54.679
big hell hot blockbuster Hollywood production out of the water,
311
00:16:55.440 --> 00:16:59.120
specifically on Holly on horror side as well horror, Wooden
312
00:16:59.519 --> 00:17:02.799
horror or would Now, one last thing I want to
313
00:17:03.240 --> 00:17:08.119
talk about before we end the whole thing is this
314
00:17:08.319 --> 00:17:12.480
line between comedy and horror, because I link it back
315
00:17:12.519 --> 00:17:17.519
to Jordan Peele. Jordan Peele was known as doing comedy
316
00:17:17.680 --> 00:17:20.359
like sketch comedy and whatnot, and now is delivered the
317
00:17:20.519 --> 00:17:25.119
greatest horror films we've ever seen. Curry Barker as well, Yep,
318
00:17:25.160 --> 00:17:28.200
where did he start? YouTube skits? And you know he's
319
00:17:28.240 --> 00:17:29.119
the are you coming?
320
00:17:29.279 --> 00:17:29.480
Guy?
321
00:17:30.119 --> 00:17:31.680
Are you coming? Are you coming?
322
00:17:32.519 --> 00:17:36.200
And this guy delivered what can only be described as
323
00:17:36.240 --> 00:17:40.160
the best horror film, if not this year, the last
324
00:17:40.200 --> 00:17:44.359
decade alone. So I find that very interesting how thin
325
00:17:44.440 --> 00:17:47.960
that line between comedy and horror is that the greatest
326
00:17:47.960 --> 00:17:51.920
comedians can deliver the greatest horror stories ever told. And
327
00:17:52.119 --> 00:17:55.160
I cannot wait to see Curry Barker's next film because
328
00:17:55.200 --> 00:17:59.839
he's apparently creating this whole obsession universe. Indy Neverette has
329
00:18:00.319 --> 00:18:02.720
said that this is not the last we'll see of
330
00:18:02.880 --> 00:18:06.559
Nikki We'll get to see more of Nikki's story a
331
00:18:06.599 --> 00:18:09.640
little bit in the next film that Curry is doing.
332
00:18:09.440 --> 00:18:14.680
Called Anything But Ghost, which is follows two fraudulent ghost
333
00:18:14.720 --> 00:18:17.079
hunters who are forced to face actual.
334
00:18:16.839 --> 00:18:21.240
Spirits, which sounds like a comedy yep. Apparently she said,
335
00:18:21.240 --> 00:18:23.119
if you look in the background, there's an easter egg
336
00:18:23.680 --> 00:18:27.720
of what happened to Nikki after Obsession, because this takes
337
00:18:27.759 --> 00:18:31.640
place within that same obsession world. So I'm like, I
338
00:18:31.680 --> 00:18:34.599
am so excited for Curry Barker to build this universe.
339
00:18:35.359 --> 00:18:38.680
Are we going to see a second Obsession? They haven't
340
00:18:38.720 --> 00:18:39.680
ruled it out just yet.
341
00:18:39.839 --> 00:18:43.160
I don't He did say what Curry but didn't say
342
00:18:43.200 --> 00:18:46.359
that it's not a movie, but he wants to do
343
00:18:46.680 --> 00:18:50.960
mini series at least eight to ten episodes of like following.
344
00:18:51.279 --> 00:18:55.960
Every episode follows a new person that makes different wishes.
345
00:18:56.079 --> 00:18:59.519
But what I actually want to see, honestly is a prettyquel.
346
00:19:00.319 --> 00:19:05.240
Oh okay, like this one wish Willow Company again.
347
00:19:05.599 --> 00:19:08.440
I can't remember, Oh, I forgot last thing. I don't
348
00:19:08.480 --> 00:19:10.480
know if you found out about this, but I've been
349
00:19:10.480 --> 00:19:15.400
digging the lady at the start of going into the shop,
350
00:19:15.640 --> 00:19:18.119
the lady at the counter, the guy at the counter
351
00:19:18.720 --> 00:19:24.079
is the same person but living his actual true self.
352
00:19:24.119 --> 00:19:28.839
Apparently because people have looked in the background at the beginning,
353
00:19:28.839 --> 00:19:31.119
you don't see it. At the end when he's there,
354
00:19:32.200 --> 00:19:34.359
there's a non binary transgender.
355
00:19:33.799 --> 00:19:34.839
Flag in the background.
356
00:19:35.160 --> 00:19:38.599
Okay, And I'm not sure if Kerry Baker has confirmed this,
357
00:19:39.119 --> 00:19:43.079
but there's theories that this is the exact same person.
358
00:19:43.880 --> 00:19:48.599
And it's that tangent of living your being, your true
359
00:19:48.640 --> 00:19:52.680
self and just admitting who you are and living your
360
00:19:52.720 --> 00:19:57.680
life as who you are, basically reflecting on bear going
361
00:19:58.480 --> 00:20:02.039
just you know, live your life, don't ruin it for
362
00:20:02.079 --> 00:20:04.559
the rest of the will be who you are, stay
363
00:20:04.599 --> 00:20:05.359
true to yourself.
364
00:20:06.119 --> 00:20:06.279
Huh.
365
00:20:06.920 --> 00:20:10.319
Yeah, And I was like if if that was Curry's intention.
366
00:20:12.680 --> 00:20:15.680
The company is called Tabby Cat Curiosities.
367
00:20:16.039 --> 00:20:19.759
Ah Okay, yeah, I really want a prequel of like
368
00:20:19.839 --> 00:20:20.680
where this came from?
369
00:20:21.000 --> 00:20:24.519
Yeah, well we get it. Hopefully the only time will tell.
370
00:20:25.200 --> 00:20:28.759
So if you haven't right now, just go run to
371
00:20:28.799 --> 00:20:31.519
the cinema. Go watch Obsession by the Way to find
372
00:20:31.559 --> 00:20:34.519
out what everyone's obsession with this film is, including us,
373
00:20:35.480 --> 00:20:38.160
and as always, you can check us out on social
374
00:20:38.240 --> 00:20:41.160
media Instagram, TikTok, and of course YouTube.
375
00:20:41.680 --> 00:20:43.880
As always, I have been Nick Dorian.
376
00:20:44.039 --> 00:21:05.279
I'm keep watching the movie good Bye
1
00:00:00.240 --> 00:00:03.960
Kelvin, I have a question to ask you.
2
00:00:04.000 --> 00:00:07.400
Why won't you love me? The winder? I love you.
3
00:00:09.320 --> 00:00:10.279
I'm gonna go now.
4
00:00:13.359 --> 00:00:14.279
Let's talk about it.
5
00:00:24.600 --> 00:00:28.640
Hello there, Clapperheads, and welcome to a brand new edition
6
00:00:28.879 --> 00:00:33.039
of Clapper Talks. I'm Nigdorian and I'm Keivin Tate, and.
7
00:00:32.880 --> 00:00:34.640
We have missed you. I have missed all of you
8
00:00:34.799 --> 00:00:35.159
very much.
9
00:00:35.240 --> 00:00:37.119
It's not being so obsessed with them.
10
00:00:36.920 --> 00:00:40.079
I'm very obsessed, right because you know that's exactly what
11
00:00:40.079 --> 00:00:42.840
we're going to be talking about, exactly, obsession.
12
00:00:44.079 --> 00:00:46.960
Have you ever actually like flirted with NICKI, I'm gonna
13
00:00:46.960 --> 00:00:49.000
get some shocks. I'll come with you if she means
14
00:00:49.000 --> 00:00:54.119
this much to you, and I know she does, say Nikki,
15
00:00:54.560 --> 00:00:56.479
I think we shoul grab a drink sometimes. I thank
16
00:00:56.479 --> 00:00:58.679
you for someone who don't like horror movie. I loved
17
00:00:58.880 --> 00:01:00.600
every minute of the Day film.
18
00:01:00.439 --> 00:01:04.560
Exactly when you told me, have I watched Obsession? I'm like, wait,
19
00:01:05.120 --> 00:01:11.200
is Calvin Day the scaredy can watching Obsession?
20
00:01:11.439 --> 00:01:11.799
See?
21
00:01:11.840 --> 00:01:15.239
This kind of further proves that I'm not afraid of
22
00:01:15.480 --> 00:01:18.840
this kind of thriller films. I just don't like supernatural stuff.
23
00:01:19.000 --> 00:01:22.439
Yeah, I think because this is totally different from what
24
00:01:22.519 --> 00:01:24.359
I did mention in my previous video about like, you know,
25
00:01:24.439 --> 00:01:27.439
conjuring the nuts, those kind of horror way. You know,
26
00:01:27.599 --> 00:01:30.560
they really rely on the jump scares and supernatural stuff.
27
00:01:31.239 --> 00:01:35.040
This is just pure psychological dread. Correct.
28
00:01:35.439 --> 00:01:38.959
So if you haven't you know, been on the internet
29
00:01:39.079 --> 00:01:42.959
or been living under a Obsession is Curry Barker's latest film,
30
00:01:43.239 --> 00:01:45.120
which has basically taken.
31
00:01:44.799 --> 00:01:45.920
The world by storm.
32
00:01:46.319 --> 00:01:47.959
And one thing that I want to start off by
33
00:01:48.000 --> 00:01:51.439
mentioning is that Curry Barker made this film for seven
34
00:01:51.519 --> 00:01:53.400
hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
35
00:01:53.079 --> 00:01:56.000
And I just changed this morning, Yeah, four hundred and
36
00:01:56.319 --> 00:01:58.040
three million.
37
00:01:58.840 --> 00:02:03.239
Domestic and global, Yes, which then makes it the most
38
00:02:03.439 --> 00:02:05.000
profitable film.
39
00:02:05.120 --> 00:02:08.520
And it has also broken a fifty year record of
40
00:02:08.639 --> 00:02:09.960
Bruce Lease's.
41
00:02:12.639 --> 00:02:14.960
And the drag the drinking is.
42
00:02:15.319 --> 00:02:20.800
But this just proves independent filmmakers gain Curry Baker, Kane
43
00:02:20.800 --> 00:02:24.840
Parsons to a certain extent, marketplier as well. They are
44
00:02:24.960 --> 00:02:27.800
shaking up the horror industry. They definitely have.
45
00:02:28.039 --> 00:02:30.919
They definitely have, especially with the budget that they have. Yes,
46
00:02:31.039 --> 00:02:34.120
the acting, like let's let's not even start going into
47
00:02:34.319 --> 00:02:37.439
like the casting crew of Obsession itself, right, just talking
48
00:02:37.479 --> 00:02:41.159
about indie films that is made by YouTube. YouTube bersla,
49
00:02:41.479 --> 00:02:45.039
youtubeers la. Dude, they are eating good men.
50
00:02:44.960 --> 00:02:49.879
Because this is what happens when you allow creatives to
51
00:02:50.000 --> 00:02:53.360
do what they do best. They're not, you know, constrained
52
00:02:53.400 --> 00:02:56.319
by a big budget and to deliver something brilliant for
53
00:02:56.360 --> 00:02:58.400
the studio so that the studios can make tons of
54
00:02:58.439 --> 00:02:59.039
money off it.
55
00:02:59.280 --> 00:03:01.800
These are films that they actually want to make.
56
00:03:02.039 --> 00:03:04.479
The only winner I feel like out of all of
57
00:03:04.520 --> 00:03:08.080
this success from obsession is Bloomholes.
58
00:03:08.199 --> 00:03:12.439
Yes, Mark God because like such a small budget, but
59
00:03:12.520 --> 00:03:15.240
we like ten twenty times much.
60
00:03:15.479 --> 00:03:16.159
We've owned back.
61
00:03:16.439 --> 00:03:20.199
Now, if you, like Nick say, have been under living
62
00:03:20.280 --> 00:03:23.599
under the rock. You have not opened social media at all, YouTube,
63
00:03:23.840 --> 00:03:28.479
anything social media related. You probably don't know what obsession is.
64
00:03:28.800 --> 00:03:31.919
So for you behind the box of what obsession is
65
00:03:32.280 --> 00:03:35.919
the DVD after breaking the mysterious one, wish Willow to
66
00:03:36.000 --> 00:03:39.400
win his crushes Hard, a hopeless romantic, find himself getting
67
00:03:39.479 --> 00:03:42.240
exactly what he asks for, but he soon discovers that
68
00:03:42.280 --> 00:03:46.120
he's He soon discovers that some desires come at a
69
00:03:46.240 --> 00:03:49.199
dark sinister price, and.
70
00:03:49.159 --> 00:03:51.759
Dark sinister is a great way of saying it. Speaking
71
00:03:51.759 --> 00:03:53.639
of which, do you know you can buy a one Wish.
72
00:03:53.439 --> 00:03:55.800
Willow yes, I know there's a whole website of.
73
00:03:55.759 --> 00:04:04.479
It wish but would you buy it?
74
00:04:05.520 --> 00:04:07.199
I would, but I would never break it, I would
75
00:04:07.199 --> 00:04:09.039
never use it, just have it on the shelf. No,
76
00:04:09.159 --> 00:04:12.960
this is a displace. I probably would by asking for
77
00:04:13.039 --> 00:04:16.360
a billion dollars. Yeah, but you see, there's always going
78
00:04:16.439 --> 00:04:17.360
to be a cost.
79
00:04:16.920 --> 00:04:21.279
Exactly where did the money come from? Ah, So with that,
80
00:04:21.439 --> 00:04:25.000
we're gonna jump into our review, our takes, and what
81
00:04:25.120 --> 00:04:28.759
we feel about the movie or session right after this.
82
00:04:35.800 --> 00:04:37.560
Now, first thing that I want to talk about with
83
00:04:37.600 --> 00:04:41.360
this film is the way that you should experience the film.
84
00:04:41.639 --> 00:04:43.360
Like a lot of people say, oh, you should go
85
00:04:43.360 --> 00:04:44.879
and watch it in the cinema, but to be fair,
86
00:04:44.920 --> 00:04:46.360
as some things, you can just watch it at home
87
00:04:46.399 --> 00:04:49.720
and whatnot. No, this is a film you need to
88
00:04:49.839 --> 00:04:52.560
watch in the cinema purely based on the fact that
89
00:04:52.600 --> 00:04:55.319
you need to be immersed in it. That is part
90
00:04:55.480 --> 00:04:59.639
of the horror, that sinking, eerie feeling like that claust
91
00:04:59.639 --> 00:05:02.600
to pu feeling, that bare feels as well.
92
00:05:02.720 --> 00:05:04.639
That you just cannot escape.
93
00:05:04.959 --> 00:05:07.120
You can't run away to your phone, you can't run
94
00:05:07.120 --> 00:05:10.040
away and look at you know something else outside of
95
00:05:10.040 --> 00:05:14.560
the screen. You are forced to witness this car crash
96
00:05:14.839 --> 00:05:16.959
of a relationship in real time.
97
00:05:17.160 --> 00:05:20.519
It's a very nice analogy for the film because throughout
98
00:05:20.560 --> 00:05:22.120
the entire movie, I think it.
99
00:05:22.079 --> 00:05:26.199
Was one hour, one hour, two.
100
00:05:26.120 --> 00:05:29.680
Hours, right close to two hours, close to two hours.
101
00:05:29.360 --> 00:05:31.000
The entire time.
102
00:05:31.399 --> 00:05:33.399
Like what I've written down in my review is like,
103
00:05:33.720 --> 00:05:39.160
it's that underneath your skins, uneasiness, anxiety that is just
104
00:05:39.360 --> 00:05:44.480
filled you with claustrophobic dread of like shit, I know
105
00:05:44.639 --> 00:05:45.319
what's coming.
106
00:05:46.240 --> 00:05:48.439
I expected, but when.
107
00:05:48.279 --> 00:05:51.720
It happens, I'm like, because there's still a part of
108
00:05:51.759 --> 00:05:53.199
you that goes, I hope it doesn't.
109
00:05:53.279 --> 00:05:55.839
Please do not go that with peace. By the end
110
00:05:55.879 --> 00:05:59.199
of the film, I literally, I'm not even joking. I
111
00:05:59.240 --> 00:06:01.279
started the films how I was just now.
112
00:06:01.160 --> 00:06:02.360
By the end of the film, I was like this,
113
00:06:04.000 --> 00:06:07.639
and when the credits rolled, I literally could not speak.
114
00:06:07.680 --> 00:06:11.040
I was like, are you spoilless?
115
00:06:11.199 --> 00:06:13.519
I mean, at this point, it's been out for a while,
116
00:06:13.600 --> 00:06:16.600
so yeah, this is gonna be a spoiler film episode when.
117
00:06:16.480 --> 00:06:18.839
You're talking about when you're talking about the credits, right,
118
00:06:19.360 --> 00:06:22.160
like when the when the nd screen pops out, all
119
00:06:22.279 --> 00:06:27.000
you hear is her just wailing and frying, just reflecting
120
00:06:27.040 --> 00:06:31.360
after everything around her, everything that she's done, and oh
121
00:06:31.560 --> 00:06:34.839
that that was a very good ending.
122
00:06:35.120 --> 00:06:35.519
It was.
123
00:06:35.639 --> 00:06:38.480
It also reminds me of the end credits scene for
124
00:06:38.600 --> 00:06:41.759
Smile Too. You haven't want a smile to, but the
125
00:06:41.839 --> 00:06:43.920
end credits are smiled To and it lasts for a
126
00:06:43.959 --> 00:06:48.920
good six seven minutes. It's just the lead character crying
127
00:06:49.240 --> 00:06:54.240
and wailing for a good seven minutes and there's no music, nothing,
128
00:06:54.800 --> 00:06:58.720
It's just that and it's haunting. So for Obsession to
129
00:06:58.759 --> 00:07:02.040
sort of follow in that foote feels like that is
130
00:07:02.079 --> 00:07:06.439
the perfect way to close this film. Now, another thing
131
00:07:06.439 --> 00:07:09.360
that I really enjoy about this film is again the
132
00:07:09.399 --> 00:07:13.360
way that it was shot and away the makeup and
133
00:07:13.439 --> 00:07:16.800
practical effects one at the end of the day because
134
00:07:16.959 --> 00:07:21.600
zero CGI, zero fancy special effects. There is this what
135
00:07:21.720 --> 00:07:25.480
I discovered later on on on TikTok and Whatnot is
136
00:07:27.279 --> 00:07:31.319
Nikki's makeup. Oh yeah, that scene when she's hiding in
137
00:07:31.360 --> 00:07:36.879
the shadows where you know why, there's this uncanny valley
138
00:07:36.959 --> 00:07:39.680
look that they were going for. And I love that
139
00:07:39.759 --> 00:07:44.319
because it gives that sense of something It looks normal
140
00:07:44.439 --> 00:07:47.279
but not quite normal, but not not that.
141
00:07:47.439 --> 00:07:50.000
It's just it's a lot of light plays, a lot
142
00:07:50.000 --> 00:07:50.800
of makeup play.
143
00:07:50.839 --> 00:07:52.120
It's a lot of just art.
144
00:07:52.639 --> 00:07:54.160
I'm indie never.
145
00:07:56.240 --> 00:07:58.360
Like she wins the whole movie for me because this
146
00:07:58.480 --> 00:08:02.000
one clip I found on Red that where it was
147
00:08:02.040 --> 00:08:05.759
the bar scene and then she was talking, and the
148
00:08:05.800 --> 00:08:09.079
title of that is like Hollywood actress could never because
149
00:08:09.079 --> 00:08:11.800
they have so much boot talks on it. It's basically
150
00:08:12.000 --> 00:08:16.600
in this facial reaction and she's able to pull off
151
00:08:16.639 --> 00:08:19.279
like eight different reactions in just two seconds.
152
00:08:19.399 --> 00:08:23.439
Yes, and I'm like, wow, even when she smiles and
153
00:08:23.480 --> 00:08:26.600
she squints her eyes and this forced smile again, it's
154
00:08:26.639 --> 00:08:28.680
that I don't know how she does it. But again
155
00:08:28.800 --> 00:08:31.519
Uncanny Valley, like it looks like she's smiling, but there's
156
00:08:31.560 --> 00:08:35.919
something evil. But find this and oh, I want to
157
00:08:35.960 --> 00:08:39.240
talk about the story itself, this obsession, Like I want
158
00:08:39.240 --> 00:08:41.799
to put the cast aside for the time being because
159
00:08:42.080 --> 00:08:43.039
I want to talk about the plot.
160
00:08:43.039 --> 00:08:44.080
I want to talk about story.
161
00:08:44.440 --> 00:08:46.519
You have this what I like.
162
00:08:46.519 --> 00:08:48.679
To coin weak men.
163
00:08:49.360 --> 00:08:54.799
That Yeah, that is confiding in his best friend who
164
00:08:54.879 --> 00:08:59.279
is slipping with his love interest. Yes, right, And this
165
00:08:59.360 --> 00:09:03.039
guy has in love or like having a crush on
166
00:09:03.840 --> 00:09:06.120
his girl for the longest time, but he don't have
167
00:09:06.200 --> 00:09:09.679
the guts to actually confess or tell her how he
168
00:09:09.759 --> 00:09:12.360
truly feels, and whenever it's brought up, he just brushed
169
00:09:12.480 --> 00:09:14.799
off with the haha, we're just friends, you know. And
170
00:09:16.120 --> 00:09:19.559
what he did instead of confronting his fears is he
171
00:09:19.600 --> 00:09:20.240
went to a.
172
00:09:20.320 --> 00:09:23.240
Crystal store and he wanted to buy a crystal.
173
00:09:23.960 --> 00:09:28.399
And that is where it got me, because he went
174
00:09:28.480 --> 00:09:31.120
in the crystal store to buy a crystal for the
175
00:09:31.120 --> 00:09:34.879
girl that he likes, but he left the store with
176
00:09:34.960 --> 00:09:38.799
a one wish willow, which is basically for him for
177
00:09:38.919 --> 00:09:42.399
him right, So that to me sets up the entire
178
00:09:42.480 --> 00:09:47.360
film of like what he should do and what he
179
00:09:47.399 --> 00:09:51.000
shouldn't do, and that is basically the plot.
180
00:09:51.240 --> 00:09:51.519
To me.
181
00:09:52.960 --> 00:09:57.080
Bear is honestly the big villain in this film because
182
00:09:57.120 --> 00:10:01.919
it really showcases the you know, we are men, but
183
00:10:02.279 --> 00:10:05.240
the shallowness of some men at times that they think
184
00:10:05.360 --> 00:10:09.159
more about themselves than anyone else. And Bear is honestly
185
00:10:09.200 --> 00:10:11.759
the perfect example of that. And you bring up that
186
00:10:11.840 --> 00:10:14.679
good point like going into buying something for Nicki but
187
00:10:14.840 --> 00:10:18.279
ending up buying something purely for himself so that Nikki
188
00:10:18.360 --> 00:10:22.639
can love him. It's very self absorbed, very self obsessed,
189
00:10:23.240 --> 00:10:27.399
and that to me is the biggest takeaway on this.
190
00:10:27.759 --> 00:10:30.120
Of like men do better.
191
00:10:30.279 --> 00:10:35.960
Lot really because Nikki goes through so much shit for this.
192
00:10:36.159 --> 00:10:38.559
Because throughout the entire film, right, there was this one,
193
00:10:38.759 --> 00:10:40.840
one small part in the movie where he called the
194
00:10:40.879 --> 00:10:43.799
helpline and I would like to think that it's like
195
00:10:43.879 --> 00:10:46.360
a genie that that is, you know, it's like a
196
00:10:46.440 --> 00:10:47.399
geny hotline.
197
00:10:47.559 --> 00:10:49.720
Yeah, yeah, I mean the wich kind of fucked up.
198
00:10:49.720 --> 00:10:53.360
Well, yeah, wish And then you hear Niki in the background
199
00:10:53.840 --> 00:10:57.080
and it's like, oh, you feel so sorry for this girl.
200
00:10:57.159 --> 00:10:59.840
When that scene popped up, the only thing I could
201
00:10:59.840 --> 00:11:04.519
talk think about was from the movie US No Sorry.
202
00:11:04.279 --> 00:11:09.320
Get Out, where he's trapped inside.
203
00:11:08.840 --> 00:11:11.600
Right, He's he's he's seeing from an internal point of
204
00:11:11.759 --> 00:11:14.240
view from his brain to the eyes of someone controlling
205
00:11:14.279 --> 00:11:14.879
his body.
206
00:11:15.159 --> 00:11:16.600
And that was eavy as hell.
207
00:11:16.759 --> 00:11:20.200
And this is exactly what I kind of feel watching
208
00:11:20.240 --> 00:11:24.600
this this film, because let's just put Niki in aside. Okay,
209
00:11:24.879 --> 00:11:29.320
there is Nikki and freaking Nikki. Yeah, okay, and freaking
210
00:11:29.399 --> 00:11:32.240
Nikki is what I like to think that the wish
211
00:11:32.320 --> 00:11:35.320
made and Nikki is just Nikki I do the film,
212
00:11:35.360 --> 00:11:37.679
you can see these two characters kind of like fighting
213
00:11:37.720 --> 00:11:41.639
each other for control, and well kind of leads to
214
00:11:42.159 --> 00:11:46.919
a very amazing yet scary, eerie feeling of you know,
215
00:11:47.000 --> 00:11:48.879
she's okay, and then she's not, and then she's okay,
216
00:11:48.919 --> 00:11:50.919
and then she's not, and then she starts hurting herself
217
00:11:50.919 --> 00:11:53.679
and then she start doing things that no normal people do,
218
00:11:54.120 --> 00:11:55.799
and yeah, no.
219
00:11:55.960 --> 00:11:56.440
I get it.
220
00:11:56.480 --> 00:12:00.600
Like that scene when she's asleep, Like whenever she's freaking
221
00:12:00.639 --> 00:12:03.879
Niki is asleep, that's when real Niki has a chance
222
00:12:03.919 --> 00:12:07.200
to voice out. And when you realize that is real
223
00:12:07.279 --> 00:12:10.120
Niki voicing out, Oh, that was so creepy to me,
224
00:12:10.679 --> 00:12:15.039
like calling for help. You feel that desperation, you feel
225
00:12:15.039 --> 00:12:18.879
that helplessness, and you put yourselves in her shoes, like
226
00:12:19.120 --> 00:12:22.120
you're in a body that you have no control of anymore,
227
00:12:22.440 --> 00:12:24.320
and you're so desperate to come out.
228
00:12:24.840 --> 00:12:25.000
Now.
229
00:12:25.000 --> 00:12:26.720
Another thing that I want to point out as well
230
00:12:26.799 --> 00:12:31.399
is the ending, which again still showcases how shit Bear
231
00:12:31.600 --> 00:12:35.080
is because when he takes the pills, when he shoots himself,
232
00:12:35.639 --> 00:12:39.720
he's still not doing it for her to release.
233
00:12:39.440 --> 00:12:40.240
Her from the spell.
234
00:12:40.519 --> 00:12:42.919
He's doing it because he can't take it anymore, and
235
00:12:42.960 --> 00:12:45.879
he just wants to end things. So to me, a
236
00:12:45.919 --> 00:12:47.679
lot of people have been going, oh, he did it
237
00:12:47.720 --> 00:12:50.559
for Niki. No he didn't, No, he didn't he did
238
00:12:50.639 --> 00:12:55.279
it for himself. Men of shit, man a shit and
239
00:12:55.320 --> 00:12:57.080
this is a pure example of that. At the end
240
00:12:57.080 --> 00:13:00.840
of the day, I think, like obsession really is men
241
00:13:00.960 --> 00:13:02.159
are ship the movies.
242
00:13:04.480 --> 00:13:07.440
And then there's also another spectrum of the film where
243
00:13:08.000 --> 00:13:11.080
you know the cast and crew. Okay, not not the crew,
244
00:13:11.120 --> 00:13:15.399
but the cast itself, right, I'm talking about Michael Johnston,
245
00:13:16.039 --> 00:13:25.159
Indie neverte Cooper, Tom Tom Lindsen, Tomlinson, Meghan Lawless who
246
00:13:25.159 --> 00:13:27.639
plays Sarahyan and and all of them.
247
00:13:28.200 --> 00:13:30.279
It's a small cost of just practically.
248
00:13:30.639 --> 00:13:34.039
And then there's the lil right, yes, you know, and
249
00:13:34.159 --> 00:13:36.480
they Richie Hayley everyone else.
250
00:13:36.879 --> 00:13:37.600
But but just.
251
00:13:37.519 --> 00:13:40.600
Focusing on the four main casts itself, I would say
252
00:13:40.799 --> 00:13:45.840
for an Indie production like this, the cast was amazing
253
00:13:45.960 --> 00:13:48.559
because just just take India.
254
00:13:48.320 --> 00:13:50.679
Side Indy is really the style of show him.
255
00:13:51.200 --> 00:13:51.360
Right.
256
00:13:51.639 --> 00:13:54.840
You have Michael who plays back, Cooper who plays Ian.
257
00:13:55.159 --> 00:13:57.120
I mean Cooper.
258
00:13:57.399 --> 00:14:00.240
Thomlinson is someone that you see on YouTube and all
259
00:14:00.240 --> 00:14:03.919
the skids you can see his acting. It's it's there, yeah, right.
260
00:14:04.159 --> 00:14:07.879
But there's also people like Meghan Lawless for example. I
261
00:14:08.080 --> 00:14:10.159
don't think I've ever seen her in anything.
262
00:14:09.799 --> 00:14:14.399
Before me neither, I think, but oh she was fantastic
263
00:14:14.399 --> 00:14:17.200
because she at the end of the day really loves Bear.
264
00:14:18.159 --> 00:14:20.919
And that scene at the party as well, like you
265
00:14:21.000 --> 00:14:26.279
really get to understand that Meghan, that's her name, is it?
266
00:14:26.320 --> 00:14:26.840
What's her name?
267
00:14:26.840 --> 00:14:28.360
In Megan Sarah?
268
00:14:28.399 --> 00:14:32.440
Sarah really cares and loves Ben, just wants him to
269
00:14:32.480 --> 00:14:36.399
be protected and do better. But you know Beer is
270
00:14:36.440 --> 00:14:39.799
so obsessed with Nikki that he never realizes that. And
271
00:14:40.120 --> 00:14:44.919
that scene I felt so much heart felt paid when
272
00:14:44.960 --> 00:14:47.960
she gets her head just destroyed by Nikki.
273
00:14:48.559 --> 00:14:50.639
You know I saw that coming from a Malloway, so
274
00:14:50.799 --> 00:14:53.759
did I, but just like, but when it happened, right,
275
00:14:53.840 --> 00:14:57.799
I was just there. Like the scene cuts off and
276
00:14:57.799 --> 00:15:00.679
then all you hear the thuds and the push and
277
00:15:00.759 --> 00:15:03.039
it depends back again and then you see her face
278
00:15:03.080 --> 00:15:04.039
all smashed in.
279
00:15:04.240 --> 00:15:07.039
All that and it's just like her eyeballs and and.
280
00:15:08.399 --> 00:15:11.600
Fun fact, in an interview that Megan did recently, there
281
00:15:11.639 --> 00:15:13.639
is a director's cut coming up a session with I
282
00:15:13.639 --> 00:15:17.440
think another ten more minutes of footage. That scene, the
283
00:15:17.480 --> 00:15:21.799
head smash apparently is a lot longer. It just stays
284
00:15:21.840 --> 00:15:24.720
on the smash for a lot longer. So you know,
285
00:15:24.919 --> 00:15:27.039
stand by for the director's cut because we're probably going
286
00:15:27.080 --> 00:15:28.720
to get a minute, a minute and a half of.
287
00:15:28.759 --> 00:15:34.000
Just that was brutal.
288
00:15:34.720 --> 00:15:36.799
But I agree with you, you see it coming, but
289
00:15:36.919 --> 00:15:41.080
you're also like okay, stop, oh stop, okay, okay, like
290
00:15:41.159 --> 00:15:44.360
you don't see the extent, like you know she's going
291
00:15:44.399 --> 00:15:47.759
to get her head smashed, but it goes so much more.
292
00:15:47.919 --> 00:15:50.360
And I think that is the genius about it, Like
293
00:15:50.720 --> 00:15:54.240
you see it coming, but it's so much more than
294
00:15:54.279 --> 00:15:59.600
what you expect and so much more terrifying and traumatic.
295
00:15:59.039 --> 00:16:00.720
Than what you expect.
296
00:16:01.000 --> 00:16:06.399
Now, closing up the whole film as a whole, when
297
00:16:06.440 --> 00:16:09.399
would you put it on our ever loving clap of
298
00:16:09.440 --> 00:16:09.960
met I.
299
00:16:09.879 --> 00:16:15.679
Would say, honestly speaking, yes, this movie is overrated and overhyped,
300
00:16:15.919 --> 00:16:20.080
all right, Okay, it is not as good as everyone
301
00:16:20.240 --> 00:16:25.120
says it is. Is not Interstellar by all of that
302
00:16:25.200 --> 00:16:29.480
aside knowing that this is an indie film made by YouTubers,
303
00:16:30.039 --> 00:16:31.519
I'm giving it a ten out of ten.
304
00:16:31.600 --> 00:16:34.960
Same because that, to me, is what gives it the
305
00:16:34.960 --> 00:16:36.759
ten out of ten. Like, yes, you can compare to
306
00:16:36.799 --> 00:16:39.559
Interstellar and all these big budget films, but I don't
307
00:16:39.559 --> 00:16:42.279
put it in that category because it just they don't
308
00:16:42.279 --> 00:16:46.080
have the same budget and whatnot. But what they delivered
309
00:16:46.240 --> 00:16:51.120
for seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars again blows any
310
00:16:51.159 --> 00:16:54.679
big hell hot blockbuster Hollywood production out of the water,
311
00:16:55.440 --> 00:16:59.120
specifically on Holly on horror side as well horror, Wooden
312
00:16:59.519 --> 00:17:02.799
horror or would Now, one last thing I want to
313
00:17:03.240 --> 00:17:08.119
talk about before we end the whole thing is this
314
00:17:08.319 --> 00:17:12.480
line between comedy and horror, because I link it back
315
00:17:12.519 --> 00:17:17.519
to Jordan Peele. Jordan Peele was known as doing comedy
316
00:17:17.680 --> 00:17:20.359
like sketch comedy and whatnot, and now is delivered the
317
00:17:20.519 --> 00:17:25.119
greatest horror films we've ever seen. Curry Barker as well, Yep,
318
00:17:25.160 --> 00:17:28.200
where did he start? YouTube skits? And you know he's
319
00:17:28.240 --> 00:17:29.119
the are you coming?
320
00:17:29.279 --> 00:17:29.480
Guy?
321
00:17:30.119 --> 00:17:31.680
Are you coming? Are you coming?
322
00:17:32.519 --> 00:17:36.200
And this guy delivered what can only be described as
323
00:17:36.240 --> 00:17:40.160
the best horror film, if not this year, the last
324
00:17:40.200 --> 00:17:44.359
decade alone. So I find that very interesting how thin
325
00:17:44.440 --> 00:17:47.960
that line between comedy and horror is that the greatest
326
00:17:47.960 --> 00:17:51.920
comedians can deliver the greatest horror stories ever told. And
327
00:17:52.119 --> 00:17:55.160
I cannot wait to see Curry Barker's next film because
328
00:17:55.200 --> 00:17:59.839
he's apparently creating this whole obsession universe. Indy Neverette has
329
00:18:00.319 --> 00:18:02.720
said that this is not the last we'll see of
330
00:18:02.880 --> 00:18:06.559
Nikki We'll get to see more of Nikki's story a
331
00:18:06.599 --> 00:18:09.640
little bit in the next film that Curry is doing.
332
00:18:09.440 --> 00:18:14.680
Called Anything But Ghost, which is follows two fraudulent ghost
333
00:18:14.720 --> 00:18:17.079
hunters who are forced to face actual.
334
00:18:16.839 --> 00:18:21.240
Spirits, which sounds like a comedy yep. Apparently she said,
335
00:18:21.240 --> 00:18:23.119
if you look in the background, there's an easter egg
336
00:18:23.680 --> 00:18:27.720
of what happened to Nikki after Obsession, because this takes
337
00:18:27.759 --> 00:18:31.640
place within that same obsession world. So I'm like, I
338
00:18:31.680 --> 00:18:34.599
am so excited for Curry Barker to build this universe.
339
00:18:35.359 --> 00:18:38.680
Are we going to see a second Obsession? They haven't
340
00:18:38.720 --> 00:18:39.680
ruled it out just yet.
341
00:18:39.839 --> 00:18:43.160
I don't He did say what Curry but didn't say
342
00:18:43.200 --> 00:18:46.359
that it's not a movie, but he wants to do
343
00:18:46.680 --> 00:18:50.960
mini series at least eight to ten episodes of like following.
344
00:18:51.279 --> 00:18:55.960
Every episode follows a new person that makes different wishes.
345
00:18:56.079 --> 00:18:59.519
But what I actually want to see, honestly is a prettyquel.
346
00:19:00.319 --> 00:19:05.240
Oh okay, like this one wish Willow Company again.
347
00:19:05.599 --> 00:19:08.440
I can't remember, Oh, I forgot last thing. I don't
348
00:19:08.480 --> 00:19:10.480
know if you found out about this, but I've been
349
00:19:10.480 --> 00:19:15.400
digging the lady at the start of going into the shop,
350
00:19:15.640 --> 00:19:18.119
the lady at the counter, the guy at the counter
351
00:19:18.720 --> 00:19:24.079
is the same person but living his actual true self.
352
00:19:24.119 --> 00:19:28.839
Apparently because people have looked in the background at the beginning,
353
00:19:28.839 --> 00:19:31.119
you don't see it. At the end when he's there,
354
00:19:32.200 --> 00:19:34.359
there's a non binary transgender.
355
00:19:33.799 --> 00:19:34.839
Flag in the background.
356
00:19:35.160 --> 00:19:38.599
Okay, And I'm not sure if Kerry Baker has confirmed this,
357
00:19:39.119 --> 00:19:43.079
but there's theories that this is the exact same person.
358
00:19:43.880 --> 00:19:48.599
And it's that tangent of living your being, your true
359
00:19:48.640 --> 00:19:52.680
self and just admitting who you are and living your
360
00:19:52.720 --> 00:19:57.680
life as who you are, basically reflecting on bear going
361
00:19:58.480 --> 00:20:02.039
just you know, live your life, don't ruin it for
362
00:20:02.079 --> 00:20:04.559
the rest of the will be who you are, stay
363
00:20:04.599 --> 00:20:05.359
true to yourself.
364
00:20:06.119 --> 00:20:06.279
Huh.
365
00:20:06.920 --> 00:20:10.319
Yeah, And I was like if if that was Curry's intention.
366
00:20:12.680 --> 00:20:15.680
The company is called Tabby Cat Curiosities.
367
00:20:16.039 --> 00:20:19.759
Ah Okay, yeah, I really want a prequel of like
368
00:20:19.839 --> 00:20:20.680
where this came from?
369
00:20:21.000 --> 00:20:24.519
Yeah, well we get it. Hopefully the only time will tell.
370
00:20:25.200 --> 00:20:28.759
So if you haven't right now, just go run to
371
00:20:28.799 --> 00:20:31.519
the cinema. Go watch Obsession by the Way to find
372
00:20:31.559 --> 00:20:34.519

00:20:35.480 --> 00:20:38.160
