WEBVTT
00:00:50.240 --> 00:00:52.560
Bleed Blue Prime Time is here.
00:00:52.800 --> 00:00:53.520
What's up, Paul?
00:00:53.600 --> 00:00:53.920
How are you?
00:00:54.160 --> 00:00:54.560
Hello, buddy.
00:00:54.719 --> 00:00:55.280
You doing good?
00:00:55.359 --> 00:00:56.560
I am tired.
00:00:56.640 --> 00:00:57.600
It's been a week already.
00:00:57.760 --> 00:00:58.640
It's yeah, no.
00:00:58.880 --> 00:01:00.240
Halfway through the week, though.
00:01:00.480 --> 00:01:05.359
Good evening, BBN, and welcome to the very first edition of Bleed Blue Primetime.
00:01:05.680 --> 00:01:09.760
Kevin Hale and the founder of Bleed Blue Network, Paul Noviali.
00:01:10.079 --> 00:01:12.159
Every Wednesday night, this is where what was that?
00:01:12.560 --> 00:01:13.359
So what's up?
00:01:14.159 --> 00:01:18.319
Every Wednesday night, this is where we'll come together to talk Kentucky football.
00:01:18.400 --> 00:01:18.960
I have a script.
00:01:19.040 --> 00:01:20.480
Let me let me at least read it.
00:01:20.719 --> 00:01:25.680
We'll talk Kentucky football, Kentucky basketball, everything happening with Big Blue Nation.
00:01:25.840 --> 00:01:27.840
We're fans, but we're also going to be honest.
00:01:28.000 --> 00:01:30.159
When Kentucky deserves praise, we'll give it.
00:01:30.240 --> 00:01:33.359
When Kentucky deserves criticism, we won't duck it.
00:01:33.439 --> 00:01:36.240
No manufactured arguments and no sugar coating.
00:01:36.400 --> 00:01:40.000
Just informed, straightforward conversation about teams we follow.
00:01:40.240 --> 00:01:46.880
Blea Blue Primetime is presented by Blea Blue Network, an official affiliate of Sportsview America.
00:01:47.040 --> 00:01:50.400
And we're excited to have all of you joining us for this debut.
00:01:50.560 --> 00:01:53.439
And honestly, we couldn't have chosen a better time to begin.
00:01:53.680 --> 00:01:56.719
Kentucky football is entering a completely new era.
00:01:56.880 --> 00:01:59.120
There's a new coach, a new offensive system.
00:01:59.439 --> 00:02:00.719
Two and a half days away now.
00:02:00.960 --> 00:02:01.920
Two and a half, yes.
00:02:02.079 --> 00:02:04.560
A new starting quarterback and a rebuilt roster.
00:02:04.719 --> 00:02:12.639
After a disappointing 2025 season ended uh with a 41-0 loss to Lowell.
00:02:12.879 --> 00:02:13.519
It still stains.
00:02:13.759 --> 00:02:16.159
BBN is ready to turn the page.
00:02:16.400 --> 00:02:18.319
Enter the Will Stein era.
00:02:18.719 --> 00:02:24.400
It officially begins Saturday afternoon when Kentucky welcomes Youngstown State to Kroger Field.
00:02:24.560 --> 00:02:29.040
Kentucky should win this game, but Youngstown State is coming to Lexington.
00:02:29.360 --> 00:02:33.120
Isn't I should say isn't coming to Lexington merely to collect a paycheck.
00:02:33.199 --> 00:02:35.840
The Penguins are ranked seventh in the FCS.
00:02:35.920 --> 00:02:41.120
They've already have a game under their belt, and they have one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football.
00:02:41.280 --> 00:02:52.720
Tonight we're breaking down Kentucky's offense, the defensive impact players, the challenges Youngstown State presents, and exactly what the Wildcats need to accomplish before Alabama comes to town.
00:02:52.879 --> 00:03:00.399
And to help us do this, we'll be joined by someone who knows what it means to wear Kentucky across their chest, former Wildcat receiver.
00:03:00.879 --> 00:03:01.920
Win a few football games too.
00:03:02.079 --> 00:03:03.120
Yeah, David Booget.
00:03:03.280 --> 00:03:04.079
What a that season.
00:03:04.160 --> 00:03:04.639
Oh my god.
00:03:04.800 --> 00:03:06.879
This is Bleed Blue Primetime.
00:03:07.120 --> 00:03:08.319
Paul, we're finally here.
00:03:08.399 --> 00:03:09.680
Let's get this started.
00:03:09.920 --> 00:03:11.439
Uh, first of all, you see this.
00:03:11.680 --> 00:03:14.000
You just forgot to say the guest, and now he's not here.
00:03:14.319 --> 00:03:16.399
Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna tease it.
00:03:16.480 --> 00:03:16.800
Hold on.
00:03:17.199 --> 00:03:22.240
I said uh this jersey I've uh dug out of my closet.
00:03:22.399 --> 00:03:23.920
Um number three, yeah.
00:03:24.079 --> 00:03:27.759
Drew uh I saw him like like a month ago at the airport.
00:03:27.920 --> 00:03:28.480
Yeah, yeah.
00:03:28.560 --> 00:03:29.439
I got it in two.
00:03:29.759 --> 00:03:33.759
It's it's a 20-year-old jersey because I got it in 2006.
00:03:33.839 --> 00:03:35.280
So shows how old we are.
00:03:35.519 --> 00:03:38.240
It is, and I was kind of petite back in the day.
00:03:38.480 --> 00:03:43.920
Before we bring David on, let's let's talk bleed blue network, bleed blue prime time.
00:03:44.240 --> 00:03:47.759
Paul, what what made this the right time to launch bleed blue prime time?
00:03:48.000 --> 00:03:48.800
Football season.
00:03:48.879 --> 00:03:50.319
There's something to actually talk about.
00:03:50.399 --> 00:03:59.680
We we actually came out came up with this uh what like month months ago months ago, and uh I think we were like you're like, oh, let's do it next week.
00:03:59.759 --> 00:04:02.319
And I'm like, bro, there's like two weeks left in the transfer portal.
00:04:02.399 --> 00:04:03.199
This is not a good time.
00:04:03.280 --> 00:04:04.079
Let's not do that now.
00:04:04.399 --> 00:04:08.959
Um, and it was just, you know, it's it's football, still basketball news.
00:04:09.040 --> 00:04:09.839
Like it's crazy.
00:04:09.920 --> 00:04:11.280
Like you think you're on the edge of it.
00:04:11.360 --> 00:04:12.480
We talk about it on Sunday.
00:04:12.560 --> 00:04:13.759
We're like, oh, we'll talk about it.
00:04:14.160 --> 00:04:18.240
Nothing to talk about, and then bang, you know, Mitchell goes back to Mizzou.
00:04:18.480 --> 00:04:19.920
So, you know, it's a perfect time.
00:04:20.000 --> 00:04:20.879
Like, it doesn't end.
00:04:20.959 --> 00:04:23.120
I think college sports is about to get on a pendulum.
00:04:23.199 --> 00:04:23.920
I don't know if you saw this.
00:04:24.079 --> 00:04:32.560
FCS actually just uh did a rule where you can now uh do OTAs and combine practices during the spring.
00:04:32.800 --> 00:04:41.280
I think that there's a world where you're gonna see spring football games, like actual games, especially in the NIL era where you'll see kind of like a training camp.
00:04:41.439 --> 00:04:45.839
Maybe it's not like you see the starters play, but you maybe you'll see them play one or two games in the spring.
00:04:46.000 --> 00:04:47.680
I honest to God, I'm here for it.
00:04:47.839 --> 00:04:54.240
There would be nothing better than football in April in Kroger Field, even if the games don't count, it would be fun to watch.
00:04:54.319 --> 00:04:56.319
I think you get a better grasp of your team.
00:04:56.479 --> 00:04:57.759
I think we're headed there.
00:04:57.920 --> 00:05:00.240
Um, so it's just gonna be really interesting to see.
00:05:00.319 --> 00:05:09.920
And I think we're really heading into college sports specifically to where you might only have a you know, you might only have June and July where there's a lull, maybe, and then you're back at it.
00:05:10.159 --> 00:05:15.120
What does uh Sportsview America affiliation mean for Bleed Blue Network?
00:05:15.439 --> 00:05:22.959
So, you know, we just we don't have a ton of time to continuously write articles and do the website stuff.
00:05:23.039 --> 00:05:24.959
Well, we do a lot and we get good traffic.
00:05:25.120 --> 00:05:30.719
Um, but it makes it to where you know what we're doing and and stuff, it helps us with uh on the credentials side.
00:05:30.800 --> 00:05:36.159
It opens a lot of doors and partnerships for better interviews, better guests, uh, better content.
00:05:36.399 --> 00:05:38.639
And uh, you know, it also gives us credentials.
00:05:38.800 --> 00:05:40.479
So this is the first football game.
00:05:40.560 --> 00:05:44.479
My first credentialed football game will be Will Stein's first football game as a coach.
00:05:44.719 --> 00:05:46.399
Um so Lucas and I are coming.
00:05:46.719 --> 00:05:48.479
We've been to a couple of pressers already, right?
00:05:48.639 --> 00:05:50.399
Yeah, yeah, was that the one Tuesday we'll talk?
00:05:50.479 --> 00:05:52.959
We can talk about that, you know, um today.
00:05:53.120 --> 00:05:55.599
And um, you know, it's it's a great opportunity.
00:05:55.680 --> 00:06:04.479
They they need extra support for Kentucky and SEC country, and there's you know, there's some more pieces I think that will come of this, um, expanding what we do.
00:06:04.639 --> 00:06:10.319
Um, can actually we need to talk about what we talked about earlier offline because it can actually do act give access to that.
00:06:10.399 --> 00:06:13.439
I mean, it'll give us access to Pro Sports and things like that.
00:06:13.599 --> 00:06:15.039
So I'm really excited about it.
00:06:15.279 --> 00:06:17.279
Someone's already starting to die.
00:06:17.519 --> 00:06:18.800
It's no, it's real, man.
00:06:18.879 --> 00:06:19.839
It's got gray in it.
00:06:19.920 --> 00:06:20.959
Get closer, you find out.
00:06:21.279 --> 00:06:22.719
Imagine it being gray, T Bay.
00:06:24.079 --> 00:06:27.599
All right, so this is before our break we bring on our guests.
00:06:27.759 --> 00:06:30.159
I have to um give this play the highlight tape.
00:06:30.399 --> 00:06:31.839
Play the highlight tape.
00:06:32.000 --> 00:06:33.759
Um, 2018, man.
00:06:33.920 --> 00:06:37.920
What a season, and this dude was very much part of it.
00:06:38.159 --> 00:06:42.959
Menacing, frightening, fine help sometimes.
00:06:43.360 --> 00:06:52.560
I skipped myself, myself, we can't.
00:06:53.039 --> 00:06:54.399
Turned them inside out on that move.
00:06:56.719 --> 00:06:58.959
That's Craig and didn't.
00:07:24.399 --> 00:07:25.519
I absolutely love this.
00:07:27.199 --> 00:07:36.479
I scare myself, myself, minister, fighting, finding out sometimes.
00:07:36.959 --> 00:07:40.159
I scared myself, myself.
00:07:40.800 --> 00:07:44.000
Hey, hospital pen I'm on the fans to watch.
00:07:44.159 --> 00:07:46.719
Hunted grand and make your best friends turn the pops.
00:07:46.959 --> 00:07:49.199
I heat up bringing my name up a notch.
00:07:49.759 --> 00:07:50.399
Remember that catch.
00:07:52.639 --> 00:07:53.680
There it is, man.
00:07:53.839 --> 00:07:54.719
Uh, good stuff.
00:07:54.879 --> 00:07:55.680
Stop sharing.
00:07:55.759 --> 00:07:57.599
All right, of course, you know, Paul.
00:07:57.680 --> 00:08:03.599
You know, I will hope it's in our budget to br have a three-man um uh or a producer.
00:08:03.839 --> 00:08:06.399
A producer, uh what's up, David?
00:08:06.800 --> 00:08:07.439
What's going on?
00:08:07.519 --> 00:08:11.839
I tried to do the Chris Collins or slide in once uh the theater.
00:08:12.079 --> 00:08:15.039
But yeah, that's that's the only reason I came on was to show my highlight tape.
00:08:15.120 --> 00:08:16.159
So I'm probably gonna yeah.
00:08:17.439 --> 00:08:20.800
I've agreed I've agreed to play it four more times throughout this hour.
00:08:20.959 --> 00:08:27.519
So didn't you you had didn't you you had the big catch to the what I believe the year before against Florida, right?
00:08:27.680 --> 00:08:30.479
Like on wasn't it like a fourth, third or fourth down?
00:08:30.639 --> 00:08:35.920
I know we didn't win, but well, the the year before that may have been that may have been Charles Walker.
00:08:36.000 --> 00:08:38.960
I think I had a total of one catch the year before.
00:08:39.039 --> 00:08:48.159
Uh and then and then I kind of started playing my senior year at receiver, but I was mostly special teams and yeah, I think where I was thinking about I don't remember.
00:08:48.240 --> 00:08:51.200
I remember like your like your first catch, and it was kind of like, oh, who's that guy?
00:08:51.279 --> 00:08:52.879
Because you got you had sticky fingers, man.
00:08:52.960 --> 00:08:54.320
I swear it's like you caught everything.
00:08:54.480 --> 00:08:54.960
Yeah, yeah.
00:08:55.120 --> 00:09:01.680
Well, I didn't uh you know really excel in the height department, so you know I had to find some way to separate myself.
00:09:01.840 --> 00:09:02.080
Sure.
00:09:02.159 --> 00:09:04.639
But did you have any collegiate drops?
00:09:04.879 --> 00:09:06.000
I I have one.
00:09:06.159 --> 00:09:07.759
I still think about it nightly.
00:09:07.840 --> 00:09:13.520
It was against against Louisville, but it was it was uh but we won that game 52 to 10, I believe.
00:09:13.600 --> 00:09:16.080
So it was at least the game that didn't matter that much, right?
00:09:16.160 --> 00:09:17.520
Like right, yeah, yeah.
00:09:17.600 --> 00:09:24.160
So that and I think there was like 30 people in the stands that game because the game was long over, but you still think about those things.
00:09:24.240 --> 00:09:27.120
You think about the the drops are like odd, you know, the missing.
00:09:27.280 --> 00:09:27.520
It's funny.
00:09:27.600 --> 00:09:28.800
I didn't I didn't see drop.
00:09:29.040 --> 00:09:31.200
I didn't see the drop in your highlight reel.
00:09:31.759 --> 00:09:32.480
Yeah, yeah.
00:09:32.720 --> 00:09:40.320
Funny thing about that high right highlight reel, this was you know, 2018, this is for NIL and I guess big production for athlete highlights and TikTok.
00:09:40.480 --> 00:09:48.000
I was some guy just messaged me on Twitter and was like, I'll pay you 60 bucks if I can make a highlight tape for you and put it on YouTube.
00:09:48.320 --> 00:09:48.560
Wow.
00:09:48.720 --> 00:09:54.000
So I can't remember his name, but I was like, sure, I'll do it.
00:09:54.080 --> 00:09:54.960
I'll I'll pay you.
00:09:55.200 --> 00:09:58.160
I paid him, yeah, 60 bucks to to make that video.
00:09:58.320 --> 00:10:00.400
And I just thought it I didn't think it was a real thing.
00:10:00.480 --> 00:10:04.000
Or he'd come through and sure enough, came through and gave me a highlight tape.
00:10:04.080 --> 00:10:05.920
I I watch every night before I go to bed.
00:10:06.080 --> 00:10:08.400
So and with your baby, right?
00:10:08.560 --> 00:10:09.040
Right, yeah.
00:10:09.120 --> 00:10:10.640
I make sure he watches it too.
00:10:11.040 --> 00:10:15.200
What just imagine every night before we're going, come on, babes, time to watch my highlight row.
00:10:17.680 --> 00:10:20.800
Honey, before before, can we watch it before?
00:10:20.960 --> 00:10:21.440
Or never.
00:10:21.840 --> 00:10:23.840
What did what you gotta get in the mood, guys?
00:10:24.000 --> 00:10:24.320
Yeah.
00:10:24.720 --> 00:10:28.240
What did um yeah, you came on as a walk-on, correct?
00:10:28.640 --> 00:10:31.040
So what was that feeling like earning that scholarship?
00:10:31.200 --> 00:10:32.000
What did it mean to you?
00:10:32.480 --> 00:10:33.520
I mean, it was the best.
00:10:33.600 --> 00:10:48.960
I mean, it was just, you know, everything you dream about, you know, growing up in Lexington too, but you know, once uh Stoops announced that I was going on scholarship to the team, it was one of those where, you know, if the whole team come and tackles me and uh they're just yeah, I just remember just how excited my teammates were for me.
00:10:49.600 --> 00:10:51.759
But you know, it you know, that that's what I dreamed about.
00:10:51.920 --> 00:10:58.240
Had a couple, you know, opportunities to play elsewhere, but man, I grew up having season tickets to UK games, just huge fan.
00:10:58.320 --> 00:11:00.960
Like I was like, you you can't pass up this opportunity.
00:11:01.040 --> 00:11:03.920
So uh getting a scholarship, it took a lot of hard work though.
00:11:04.000 --> 00:11:14.480
I mean, I was I was a scout team dummy there for a couple years, so uh you know, there'd be a few walks backs to the dorm where I'm like, I don't know if this football thing, you know, get tackled by Bud Depree and as a scout team member.
00:11:14.560 --> 00:11:20.879
I'm just like, you know, I don't I don't know if I'm gonna cut it in the FCC, but you know, stuck with it and uh you know it paid off.
00:11:21.200 --> 00:11:31.680
Not only did you stick with it, you you you got to be as a you know Kentucky fan, breaking probably the biggest monkey that we've had on our backs as a football program and scoring.
00:11:31.759 --> 00:11:34.400
I mean, but you put that you put that guy on skates.
00:11:34.640 --> 00:11:35.280
What was that like?
00:11:35.360 --> 00:11:38.320
I know like I I've I've talked to Cash a lot about this, you know.
00:11:38.400 --> 00:11:45.360
I've I've I've known Cash for a couple years now, but uh what was that like for you in that like not just like scoring, but like going through that?
00:11:45.520 --> 00:11:52.800
Was it was it different from a uh because there was a personal aspect on top of being a fan, like you had lived this, you knew what it meant.
00:11:52.879 --> 00:11:56.720
Like, did that add more pressure and then everything was just like heightened around the game?
00:11:56.960 --> 00:11:57.520
Definitely.
00:11:57.600 --> 00:12:06.480
And I think it, you know, especially like with cash, you know, we we talked about it with the team, like like afterwards, especially we were like, guys, this is a huge deal.
00:12:06.640 --> 00:12:13.759
Like we we you know, we grew up with uh, you know, constantly just couldn't couldn't quite beat Florida, came so close, especially the years prior.
00:12:14.000 --> 00:12:17.759
And we you know, we would mean Cash were like, this is crazy.
00:12:17.840 --> 00:12:18.480
We we did it.
00:12:18.640 --> 00:12:20.240
We talked about the game, like we we did.
00:12:20.400 --> 00:12:23.920
A lot of those guys, you know, from the swamp which no one thought would happen.
00:12:24.320 --> 00:12:25.280
Right, right, yeah.
00:12:25.440 --> 00:12:28.560
No, that that plane ride back was uh was something else.
00:12:28.640 --> 00:12:31.440
That was that was a good time, but it it just meant so much.
00:12:31.600 --> 00:12:41.600
When I scored there, it was so early in the game, you know, I was obviously excited, but you know, I'm I was like, we we got a whole rest of the game to play, and and I kind of blacked out a little bit.
00:12:41.680 --> 00:12:43.840
I was like, can I really just score in the swamp?
00:12:44.240 --> 00:12:47.520
You know, and then uh and then you know got the rest of the game to play to finish it off.
00:12:47.600 --> 00:12:55.520
But you know, uh guys on the team really made a difference, like uh Benny Snell and you know Lynn Bowden, just just you know, guys like that were made a huge difference.
00:12:55.600 --> 00:12:58.640
Josh Allen, always uh he's basic.
00:12:58.720 --> 00:12:59.200
He's all right.
00:12:59.280 --> 00:13:00.640
He is he's pretty good, pretty good.
00:13:01.040 --> 00:13:02.080
Okay player, I guess.
00:13:02.400 --> 00:13:07.920
What what uh what did that 2018 team possess that separated it from other teams too?
00:13:08.240 --> 00:13:17.200
I I think just the camaraderie and and belief, like that was kind of like the real like first wave of stoops guys that came in, you know.
00:13:17.280 --> 00:13:19.680
That was like that the 2014 year.
00:13:19.759 --> 00:13:24.560
So I remember thinking Drew Barker was in that class, yeah, Mike Edwards and all those guys.
00:13:24.720 --> 00:13:32.560
So it was just, you know, we kind of been through it together and the core group, everyone just stuck together, and you know, we were just like, we want to do something special.
00:13:32.640 --> 00:13:34.080
We came here to do something special.
00:13:34.240 --> 00:13:44.000
These bowls have been been great, and I know the bowls are great, especially you know, me growing up, like Kentucky fan, like you know, when Andre Woodson went seven to five and you know, be Clemson in Florida State.
00:13:44.080 --> 00:13:45.440
I was at those games, like that was awesome.
00:13:45.759 --> 00:13:59.840
Same and so yeah, and then the like having a 10-win season, like you know, Coach Soup would ask me and like Kentucky guys to talk to the team and be like, God, you have no idea how big of a deal this this is for this state, this community, this program.
00:14:00.000 --> 00:14:03.759
Like, you know, you you guys are gonna go down a history with uh a season like this.
00:14:03.840 --> 00:14:07.600
So I think just yeah, the brotherhood of the the team was just uh awesome.
00:14:07.759 --> 00:14:08.879
We just mashed so well.
00:14:09.680 --> 00:14:12.080
Let's uh let's get at it, man.
00:14:12.240 --> 00:14:20.400
Uh, you being an offensive guy, uh let's uh use that player perspective and turn our attention to this off Kentucky offense.
00:14:20.480 --> 00:14:22.560
Uh start out of the gate, Kenny Minchie.
00:14:22.720 --> 00:14:27.680
Um Minchie begins the season as QB1 after transferring from Notre Dame.
00:14:27.759 --> 00:14:37.360
He has completed 23 of 29 collegiate attempts for 212 yards, but Saturday represents his first meaningful opportunity to lead a team.
00:14:37.600 --> 00:14:43.920
Coach Stein cited Minchy's preparation, command, decision making, and leadership when naming him the starter.
00:14:44.080 --> 00:14:46.560
David, what do you want to see?
00:14:46.800 --> 00:14:52.080
Um, you know, the ball coming out on time, accurate throws, routine completions.
00:14:52.400 --> 00:14:57.759
What what do you need to see from Minchie that will uh wet your whistle?
00:14:58.160 --> 00:15:00.400
I just want to see him just command the offense.
00:15:00.480 --> 00:15:06.480
I, you know, he he went to Notre Dame, didn't have a you know crazy amount of snaps there, but you know, he he can play.
00:15:06.560 --> 00:15:07.600
He's he's a good player.
00:15:07.680 --> 00:15:17.200
And the practice that I watch, like he was slinging around and you know, they got these GoPros on their helmets, and he's just you know it seemed like he was making every right decision, putting the ball where it needs to be, not forcing it.
00:15:17.360 --> 00:15:26.400
So I think he uh you know, as long as he has the right mentality and doesn't try to force things and do too much and kind of get the flow of the offense, I think he'll I think he'll be just fine.
00:15:26.640 --> 00:15:32.000
Paul, does Minchine need huge numbers or does does he simply need to just look and control?
00:15:32.240 --> 00:15:33.280
Honestly, yeah.
00:15:33.360 --> 00:15:40.960
I mean, look, this is one of those games where you, you know, you throw for 225 or 200 and rush for 250, you know.
00:15:41.120 --> 00:15:45.360
Just I like you you almost want this to be a boring ass kicking.
00:15:45.520 --> 00:15:47.520
Um, I I'm guarantee you Will Stein.
00:15:47.600 --> 00:15:52.560
If Will Stein, if you asked him privately, I guarantee you, and and and David probably could back this up playing.
00:15:52.720 --> 00:15:56.879
You would love to have no nothing like you don't want to show m that much motion.
00:15:56.960 --> 00:15:59.520
You want to line up in basic sets and just beat them.
00:15:59.600 --> 00:16:01.440
Like you don't want to have to show a whole lot in this game.
00:16:01.520 --> 00:16:04.320
Um that that was kind of Alabama the next week.
00:16:04.400 --> 00:16:12.480
And and look, like yeah, I don't think he'd he just uh if if our wide receivers can't beat their secondary and get open, we have bigger problems.
00:16:12.640 --> 00:16:14.720
Um, I like our wide receiver room.
00:16:14.800 --> 00:16:18.720
It'd be you know, obviously we have a wide receiver here, so be curious to hear what his thoughts are.
00:16:18.800 --> 00:16:22.960
Uh, I think it's I you know, I you keep hearing this, it's talented, but it's unproven.
00:16:23.120 --> 00:16:26.879
Uh um, I think that, yeah, but I mean, I don't know.
00:16:26.960 --> 00:16:39.040
The last time we've had a bunch of dudes that are 6'3, 6'4 have experience, SEC experience, big game experience, you know, and then some of the, you know, like Darby or Prince Gene, you know, those types of guys that are young, but just raw, right?
00:16:39.120 --> 00:16:42.080
Like, when's the last time we've had multiples of those types of dudes?
00:16:42.160 --> 00:16:43.840
And I don't think we have in a long time.
00:16:44.000 --> 00:16:46.080
So um, you know, take care of the football.
00:16:46.160 --> 00:16:51.200
No, if you get if it's a turnover, something nonsense where it like, you know, bounces off a helmet or something, right?
00:16:51.280 --> 00:16:52.960
Like, no bad throws kind of thing.
00:16:53.120 --> 00:16:56.720
Um, and then you know, just just look like you know what you're doing.
00:16:56.960 --> 00:16:58.720
I've got questions here.
00:16:58.960 --> 00:17:04.079
Uh, my next question was about should we how much should we reveal before Alabama?
00:17:04.240 --> 00:17:04.799
You said that.
00:17:04.960 --> 00:17:07.440
I said, what should what would what would concern us more?
00:17:07.599 --> 00:17:08.960
Miss throws or poor decisions?
00:17:09.119 --> 00:17:10.240
You said that too.
00:17:10.400 --> 00:17:11.039
We keep going.
00:17:11.200 --> 00:17:19.759
David, as a receiver, how quickly how quickly can you tell whether your quarterback is comfortable and seeing the field properly?
00:17:20.240 --> 00:17:28.000
Usually after that first drive or two, you know, sometimes it would it, you know, it takes a little bit with the uh your first game in a new stadium.
00:17:28.160 --> 00:17:32.799
I think uh like Terry, my senior year, had a had a rough first half, first game really.
00:17:32.960 --> 00:17:37.039
And it, you know, he he settled in and made the right decisions and turned the ball over.
00:17:37.519 --> 00:17:45.279
Let's be honest, Stoops' teams in the first quarter, first half of the first games of the year never came out all guns blazing, except for Will Levis.
00:17:45.600 --> 00:17:51.360
That was literally the only time I think I've ever seen us really come out in the first game of the year and just lay an ass beating down.
00:17:51.519 --> 00:17:51.759
Right.
00:17:51.920 --> 00:17:52.080
Yeah.
00:17:52.240 --> 00:17:53.440
I think Will Stein, too.
00:17:53.519 --> 00:17:56.720
I mean, just he's gonna, you know, have the correct game plan, I think.
00:17:56.799 --> 00:18:02.000
You know, he might do some dinks and dunks early on, really like get into the flow of things early.
00:18:02.080 --> 00:18:08.160
So as a four cornerback himself, I think he understands and yeah, I just I just trust the game plan he'll put together.
00:18:08.240 --> 00:18:16.160
And like you said, I I hope they don't have to do too much uh, you know, misdirections and you know, really go into their bags to not give up anything for Alabama.
00:18:16.319 --> 00:18:22.319
So yeah, I would be very surprised if you'd see play action for a deep shot on the first play of the game.
00:18:22.480 --> 00:18:30.799
I you're probably gonna see an off-eye handoff or like David said, a quick out, you know, like a like a bubble screen, get that ball out of his hand, you know.
00:18:31.120 --> 00:18:33.120
Something like what you just said now.
00:18:33.279 --> 00:18:35.840
Listen to my next question, to be question.
00:18:35.920 --> 00:18:38.880
Does Kentucky need to push the ball vertically immediately?
00:18:39.120 --> 00:18:40.240
No, I wouldn't.
00:18:40.799 --> 00:18:46.480
I I listen, I think you take a shot or two, but at the same time, I don't again, you know, when is it in the game?
00:18:46.640 --> 00:18:51.360
If you're gonna do it, do it real early, just to kind of like, you know, I uh you don't want to show a lot.
00:18:51.519 --> 00:18:54.880
I don't I I I mean like a vertical hoop shot is a vertical shot, right?
00:18:55.039 --> 00:18:58.080
But I mean, you do you want to see the guy's first move off the line?
00:18:58.160 --> 00:18:59.840
Like, let some of this be a mystery.
00:19:00.000 --> 00:19:03.440
Um, I mean, if you just go straight vertical and beats them over the top, then whatever.
00:19:03.519 --> 00:19:05.440
Like, hey, buddy, you're just slow, you know.
00:19:05.680 --> 00:19:06.960
Let me pause real quick.
00:19:07.120 --> 00:19:12.720
It looks like uh StreamYard is not working with X tonight.
00:19:12.799 --> 00:19:17.600
So if you're watching it on X uh and you're making comments, we're not seeing them.
00:19:17.759 --> 00:19:25.519
So if you want to comment, get involved with some questions, comments, whatever, hit the YouTube link and uh jump in.
00:19:25.840 --> 00:19:28.880
I can I can check, I can pull up the comments on on X.
00:19:28.960 --> 00:19:30.799
I can have X open on the other side.
00:19:30.960 --> 00:19:35.519
Someone uh Otis asked if uh Alex Bafari uh will play.
00:19:35.840 --> 00:19:37.200
You're asking or tell it.
00:19:37.680 --> 00:19:38.559
That's what was the question.
00:19:38.720 --> 00:19:39.519
I have no idea, man.
00:19:40.400 --> 00:19:40.720
I don't know.
00:19:40.880 --> 00:19:42.000
It was the question on X.
00:19:42.240 --> 00:19:43.039
So there you go.
00:19:43.440 --> 00:19:44.640
All right, one question.
00:19:44.799 --> 00:19:46.400
Uh all right, that's Minchy.
00:19:46.480 --> 00:19:48.160
Let's go to the running backs.
00:19:48.240 --> 00:19:50.480
Uh it's CJ Baxter's opportunity.
00:19:50.640 --> 00:19:54.160
Um, uh Javante Barnes, he's unavailable for the opener.
00:19:54.400 --> 00:19:54.960
Is that correct?
00:19:55.120 --> 00:19:55.360
Yes.
00:19:55.600 --> 00:19:55.840
Okay.
00:19:56.000 --> 00:19:56.720
Yep, he is out.
00:19:56.799 --> 00:19:57.680
Uh he's out.
00:19:57.840 --> 00:20:05.200
Baxter has 855 career rushing yards, 36 receptions, uh, over a thousand yards of scrimmage.
00:20:05.360 --> 00:20:08.799
Injuries has have disrupted his previous seasons.
00:20:09.039 --> 00:20:10.960
Um straight out of the gate.
00:20:11.039 --> 00:20:15.519
Does Baxter look fully recovered and explosive?
00:20:15.680 --> 00:20:18.240
That's uh gotta be a talking point, right?
00:20:18.400 --> 00:20:18.880
Somebody.
00:20:19.120 --> 00:20:27.360
Yeah, I mean, if you if you listen to the coaches, uh Will uh talked about it yesterday, said he's had a really good two weeks of practice, looks good.
00:20:27.519 --> 00:20:30.559
Um, Joe Sloan was like, he's a big, he's a big boy.
00:20:30.799 --> 00:20:32.799
You get next to him, he's like, he's a big boy.
00:20:32.880 --> 00:20:35.920
Like you don't realize how big of a guy he is as a running back.
00:20:36.080 --> 00:20:39.039
Um, yeah, yeah, you know that the injury, I get it.
00:20:39.120 --> 00:20:48.160
Um, everybody wants to talk about it, but I mean the guy was like a like a what a top five player at high school period in the country, not at position, like top five.
00:20:48.240 --> 00:20:49.440
Uh five-star kid.
00:20:49.519 --> 00:20:56.080
Had I mean, a lot of people don't remember he played against Washington in the college football playoff two years ago, had a really good game.
00:20:56.400 --> 00:20:58.480
Uh as a I think he was a true freshman.
00:20:58.720 --> 00:20:59.759
He's got the dog in him.
00:20:59.920 --> 00:21:03.039
He's got he's I have I have not seen him practice.
00:21:03.200 --> 00:21:05.600
There's not a lot of people that have seen this team really practice.
00:21:05.759 --> 00:21:06.640
Like I've found it.
00:21:06.720 --> 00:21:07.360
Like stoops.
00:21:07.440 --> 00:21:08.799
I know you got the C a lot.
00:21:08.960 --> 00:21:11.039
Will Stein's not the same, which I don't care.
00:21:11.120 --> 00:21:13.600
I don't think that that's good or bad one way or the other.
00:21:13.680 --> 00:21:17.759
I kind of like the mystery, um, you know, especially going to your first year.
00:21:17.920 --> 00:21:20.160
Uh, but he's not the home run guy.
00:21:20.319 --> 00:21:25.519
That's where you know Barnes really could have done that because your Barnes is kind of I we we we talked about it, right?
00:21:25.600 --> 00:21:26.640
Like on Sunday.
00:21:26.799 --> 00:21:33.759
It's kind of like your um your Benny Snell or yeah, your Benny Snell, AJ Rose kind of one-two hit, right?
00:21:33.840 --> 00:21:38.240
Like Benny Snell can beat the shit out of you, and then AJ Rose comes in, you give him a seam, and he's gone.
00:21:38.960 --> 00:21:44.080
So Stein said the depth of the room for the for the start of the season is okay.
00:21:44.240 --> 00:21:46.240
I don't love that the head coach said that.
00:21:46.319 --> 00:21:49.920
Um, but I think we're one injury away from having to play.
00:21:50.080 --> 00:21:52.000
Um, you know, uh, what's his face?
00:21:52.080 --> 00:21:53.600
He converted from like a cornerback.
00:21:53.759 --> 00:21:58.799
Um, now he's got a ton of talent, but it just shows you the room's not necessarily as deep as we'd hope.
00:21:58.960 --> 00:21:59.200
Right.
00:21:59.519 --> 00:22:01.519
Um, David, anything to add to that?
00:22:01.759 --> 00:22:06.160
Yeah, and I think that's across the board too with all players, not just the running backs.
00:22:06.480 --> 00:22:12.080
It's uh, you know, the one deep, you know, to have a lot of those guys, especially the linemen, have a lot of playing history.
00:22:12.160 --> 00:22:15.200
But you know, if guys go down here and there, that's where I kind of get worried.
00:22:15.279 --> 00:22:22.400
And you know, I guess everywhere, you know, people are gonna have injuries, but I just, you know, got a lot of unproven guys behind them, guys that haven't played a lot.
00:22:22.480 --> 00:22:25.600
So, you know, I'm praying we have a have a healthy year, I guess.
00:22:26.160 --> 00:22:30.960
For people who've seen the you've seen the wide receivers play in like in in what you have seen.
00:22:31.120 --> 00:22:32.080
What's kind of your takeaway?
00:22:32.400 --> 00:22:38.000
That that seems like you know, we kind of know if Barnes is healthy, if Baxter's healthy, and we know what we're getting there.
00:22:38.080 --> 00:22:38.960
The O line's really good.
00:22:39.279 --> 00:22:39.440
Good.
00:22:39.519 --> 00:22:44.720
The D-line, probably the best unit on the on the team, which I don't think you've been able to say Kentucky a lot.
00:22:44.799 --> 00:22:47.039
What do you think about the wide receiver unit?
00:22:47.120 --> 00:22:50.240
I you've probably not seen Nick Anderson a whole lot, which is fine.
00:22:50.400 --> 00:22:54.880
Um, but you know, the guys you have seen, kind of tell me what your thoughts on them are.
00:22:55.200 --> 00:22:57.920
DJ Miller, I think he's I think he's a dude.
00:22:58.000 --> 00:23:02.160
You know, he's just he's got hands, he's got speed, he's got great route running ability.
00:23:02.400 --> 00:23:03.840
He's got SEC size.
00:23:04.160 --> 00:23:05.200
SEC size.
00:23:05.600 --> 00:23:08.960
Like, you know, I think I think we can we can feed him the ball.
00:23:09.039 --> 00:23:19.039
It's just other guys opening it up for him, you know, whether that's Willie Rodriguez, um, you know, a tight end doing that, and who knows, uh, you know, maybe Nick Anderson comes onto the scene.
00:23:19.120 --> 00:23:25.120
But you know, I I think DJ Miller is gonna be our our one-one guy uh going into this team.
00:23:25.440 --> 00:23:26.400
I'm looking forward to him.
00:23:26.720 --> 00:23:34.400
Before before we before we get deep in with the receivers and tight end, I got one last question what when it comes, David, when it comes to the running game.
00:23:34.559 --> 00:23:42.640
Uh, how much does that change uh when when the running game is working, how much does that change what a receiver sees from the secondary?
00:23:42.880 --> 00:23:54.960
I think it opens up just shots and opportunities every time we'd come back on the uh, you know, from an offensive drive, you know, if we scored and we were running the ball a lot, which you know, for those young guys out there in 2018, we did a lot.
00:23:55.120 --> 00:23:56.240
We did a lot of running the ball.
00:23:56.319 --> 00:23:58.400
We had Benny Snell and the big blue wall.
00:23:58.559 --> 00:24:04.000
So, you know, you see those DBs, those safeties just, you know, start to inch up a little bit, a little bit more.
00:24:04.160 --> 00:24:10.720
And then that's when you can kind of take your shots, you know, take those out and ups and you know, kind of open up the pass game a little bit.
00:24:10.799 --> 00:24:17.440
And, you know, that was especially our our kind of formula uh when I played, you know, hammer the ball, hammer the mouth ball, hammer the ball.
00:24:17.519 --> 00:24:25.840
You know, I think I had like five catches on fake blocks and you know, and then running up and you know getting a big catch out of it just because we set up the run game.
00:24:26.160 --> 00:24:36.799
Moving to the receivers and tight end impact players, we touched on Nick and Nick Anderson, proven size, vertical potential, Kenny Darby, explosive freshman who can contribute immediately.
00:24:37.039 --> 00:24:48.799
DJ Miller, young receiver with SEC size, Xavier Daisy, another large target, uh for Minchie, Willie Rodriguez, veteran tight end, and preseason all SEC selection, right?
00:24:48.880 --> 00:24:49.279
Right, yeah.
00:24:49.519 --> 00:24:50.160
Second team, I think.
00:24:50.240 --> 00:24:50.640
Third team.
00:24:51.200 --> 00:24:55.840
Yeah, uh Mikhail uh Skinner, athletic option who can create mismatches.
00:24:56.000 --> 00:25:00.799
Um, who becomes Minchie's security blanket from the receiving core, Dave?
00:25:01.039 --> 00:25:04.480
Like I said, DJ Muller and yeah, I forgot to bring out Kenny Darby.
00:25:04.720 --> 00:25:12.080
That'll be interesting to see because from all accounts, from what I've heard, like he's a stud at practice, quick, twitchy, does all the right things.
00:25:12.240 --> 00:25:14.240
It's just just a freshman, you know.
00:25:14.319 --> 00:25:16.160
So will the lights be too big?
00:25:16.240 --> 00:25:19.039
And you know, some guys you can you can tell by talking to them.
00:25:19.120 --> 00:25:22.160
You know, I wish I could always say this about my fantasy football teams.
00:25:22.240 --> 00:25:24.080
I wish I could talk to the guy and know who the guy is.
00:25:24.400 --> 00:25:27.120
He's gonna be, you know, what mentality he has.
00:25:27.279 --> 00:25:33.840
Because, you know, some freshmen just just come in there like I'm the best and I'm gonna play the best, and I don't care how many fans are in the stadium.
00:25:33.920 --> 00:25:35.039
So Lynn Bowden.
00:25:35.440 --> 00:25:35.840
Exactly.
00:25:36.000 --> 00:25:37.120
So Lynn Bowden, yeah.
00:25:37.279 --> 00:25:41.519
Freshman, you don't know what you don't know, and you just you just go out there and ball because you always have.
00:25:41.920 --> 00:25:44.000
I think it's gonna be Willie Rodriguez.
00:25:44.160 --> 00:25:47.519
Um he's got all the intangibles of everything.
00:25:47.600 --> 00:26:03.759
And I when you talk about, you know, when we were talking about the offensive MVPs last that on Sunday on round of shots, you know, we were like, if it's if it's these guys like we're in trouble, um, look, I mean I think if it's Minchie, if he throws for 3,030 TDs, yeah, that's your offensive MVP 100%.
00:26:04.319 --> 00:26:07.680
But you know, I don't think you want it to be a running back specifically.
00:26:07.840 --> 00:26:17.840
I think it needs to be somebody like a Willie Rod because if this guy comes in with eight, like, you know, 800, 900 yards, nine, 12 touchdowns, you have a monster.
00:26:18.319 --> 00:26:27.279
Um, and like, you know, on on David's team, you know, you had CJ Conrad, which, you know, that really he having that kind of a receiving tight end, and they're different.
00:26:27.360 --> 00:26:28.000
I know that.
00:26:28.080 --> 00:26:35.519
Um, but Willie's an NFL player um in the right system, and we've seen what really good tight ends can do in a Will Stein offense.
00:26:35.600 --> 00:26:38.640
And I think he's the end ends up being like a security blanket.
00:26:38.799 --> 00:26:44.240
Um, I think it's interesting that David says DJ Miller when everyone's basically saying it Nick Anderson.
00:26:44.480 --> 00:26:44.960
I agree.
00:26:45.120 --> 00:26:47.840
I think I think that they can have two number ones.
00:26:48.000 --> 00:26:52.799
I think it's important for Nick Anderson, at least early, to be the one guy.
00:26:52.880 --> 00:27:00.400
Well, you have DJ Miller, who is a true sophomore, obviously coming in and and giving you the but he has he's got the intangibles, right?
00:27:00.480 --> 00:27:04.960
Like it took long enough to play him last year, and then he just caught basically everything he threw at him.
00:27:05.279 --> 00:27:06.480
Um, so I agree.
00:27:06.559 --> 00:27:09.200
I he has a number one, he has number one potential.
00:27:09.360 --> 00:27:16.319
But like the thing is that really excites me about this unit is you got him, and then you've got um what's his face?
00:27:16.480 --> 00:27:26.720
Uh Jacaden Ferguson Ferguson, the transfer from Arkansas guy with another guy, as he's experienced, he's played in some big games, he's won some big games, lights won't be too bright, six two.
00:27:27.039 --> 00:27:29.840
I mean, you got a lot of these guys, six two, six three, six, four.
00:27:30.080 --> 00:27:35.759
Like, and then you throw Willie in there, he's just an absolute I mean, he's basically cash Daniel at a tight end spot.
00:27:35.840 --> 00:27:37.200
He's just a psychotic.
00:27:37.440 --> 00:27:44.480
Um and uh and you know, you I think I think this offense has all the makings to be very, very good.
00:27:44.640 --> 00:27:45.840
It's just will it, right?
00:27:45.920 --> 00:27:46.799
Like, will it mesh?
00:27:46.960 --> 00:27:47.360
Will it gel?
00:27:47.600 --> 00:27:53.120
And I think that's the thing you want to especially see in the first like no, like you don't want to see drops, catch your balls, get open.
00:27:53.200 --> 00:27:57.120
And if they're getting open easy and we're moving the ball, I and you can tell, right?
00:27:57.360 --> 00:27:58.080
Effortless.
00:27:58.240 --> 00:28:04.240
We had some gate, we've had games in the past where we've played teams like this, and it it was comfortable, but it wasn't effortless, right?
00:28:04.319 --> 00:28:07.279
It was just uh that was ugly, but we still won by 25.
00:28:07.440 --> 00:28:12.240
Um, you want one of those games where it's like we're an SEC opponent playing an FCS team and it looks like it.
00:28:12.319 --> 00:28:14.559
And I think you want to see that from the offensive side of the ball.
00:28:15.039 --> 00:28:15.840
For you, David.
00:28:15.920 --> 00:28:23.360
Uh who in this receiving room has caught your attention in and what separates a dependable receiver from someone who merely has talent?
00:28:23.600 --> 00:28:28.880
Yeah, well, well, first of all, Nick Anderson, yeah, very, very good, has uh you know, plenty of experience.
00:28:28.960 --> 00:28:35.039
It's just you know, getting to those ball, getting the ball to the outside receiver sometimes is just you know not a guaranteed thing.
00:28:35.120 --> 00:28:40.559
So I you know, I've just seen DJ Miller work and see him practice, and it just seems like every time he's mauling out.
00:28:40.640 --> 00:28:43.759
And uh Willie Rodriguez, you know, good good safety blanket.
00:28:43.840 --> 00:28:45.920
So let uh I just want to touch place on that.
00:28:46.000 --> 00:28:48.240
Yes, Willie Rodriguez, great safety blanket.
00:28:48.400 --> 00:28:49.920
But uh Kevin, repeat your question.
00:28:50.000 --> 00:28:50.559
What did you say?
00:28:50.720 --> 00:28:51.920
No, I don't know.
00:28:54.160 --> 00:28:55.200
You had to get that.
00:28:55.360 --> 00:28:59.440
I thought Paul had great points and like things I want to say.
00:28:59.519 --> 00:29:00.640
I just want to be like, yes, yes.
00:29:00.720 --> 00:29:01.920
I didn't forget about Nick Anderson.
00:29:03.440 --> 00:29:08.640
Well, and when I say that, when I see the Nick Anderson thing, I think it's more of like the spacing and the vertical threat, right?
00:29:08.720 --> 00:29:11.759
Like the downfield 6'4, good size, can go get the ball.
00:29:12.000 --> 00:29:15.360
That opens up, and sometimes guys like that don't have eight catches, right?
00:29:15.440 --> 00:29:24.080
You got a DJ Miller might get eight catches for you know 90 yards, but Nick Anderson has two catches for 100, but those two opened up the other 15 catches, you know.
00:29:24.160 --> 00:29:32.880
So that's why I think Nick's Nick's the important, the most important guy in the receiving room for giving the all the other guys space to be able to operate.
00:29:33.279 --> 00:29:42.319
So, David, the question was in the receiving room, who has caught your attention and what separates a dependable receiver from someone who merely has talent?
00:29:42.559 --> 00:29:43.759
Oh, no, no secret.
00:29:43.840 --> 00:29:50.400
DJ Miller caught my attention, but just being dependable is someone that the coaches trust and the quarterback trusts.
00:29:50.640 --> 00:30:03.360
You know, it's hard to see what goes on, you know, in the summer in the reps, but like, you know, you could you knew the guys that were getting the ball by the amount of extra work that are being done with the the quarterbacks and just constantly throwing with them and just knowing like, hey, that's my go-to guy.
00:30:03.440 --> 00:30:06.720
And it could be Willie Rodriguez just being like, hey, it's it's third down and six.
00:30:06.880 --> 00:30:12.480
Willy Rodriguez, he's gotten open a thousand times of practice, and I'm probably gonna go to so you know.
00:30:12.640 --> 00:30:18.480
I think that's yeah, with it's kind of we'll see what what what Kenny, you know, be evident, I think, uh, in the first game.
00:30:18.559 --> 00:30:24.799
But I think um, I wouldn't be surprised if Willie Rodriguez is kind of that that go-to kind of like dependable option.
00:30:25.120 --> 00:30:29.519
That first game should be a game where he has eight, nine catches, a hundred yards, a touchdown.
00:30:29.600 --> 00:30:33.360
Like, this is the game that you should ball out, Willie should ball out with.
00:30:33.920 --> 00:30:34.799
No one can guard him.
00:30:34.880 --> 00:30:36.960
There's no one on Youngstown City that can guard him.
00:30:37.039 --> 00:30:37.279
No one.
00:30:37.920 --> 00:30:38.160
Yeah.
00:30:38.319 --> 00:30:39.519
I like to see other guys too.
00:30:39.600 --> 00:30:44.720
Like, yeah, I'm I mean, I'm gonna say all Kentucky guys, but Brock Kaufman, you know, he's got a lot of great.
00:30:45.039 --> 00:30:48.640
I've heard great things like I've heard he could he catches everything.
00:30:48.799 --> 00:30:55.680
Wasn't he the one on the highlight video that made the one-handed catch like get like around the the like I've heard he catches everything?
00:30:56.400 --> 00:31:00.480
Yeah, just as this guy's a per perfect in practice, you know, does everything right.
00:31:00.559 --> 00:31:02.480
It's like you got everything.
00:31:02.799 --> 00:31:13.360
Those that's the guy, too, that that will you're playing a game and nothing's going on, and that's the guy that'll make a stupid, you know, pin it to the back of the corner type catch and change momentum of a game, too.
00:31:13.440 --> 00:31:15.200
Like, I mean, you know, no fear.
00:31:15.440 --> 00:31:16.480
That's what you gotta have.
00:31:17.120 --> 00:31:21.360
You know, just for the record, Paul, on Wednesday nights, I've doctressing here for a moment.
00:31:21.519 --> 00:31:28.880
From eight to ten, I'm always watching something on uh TBS, but I don't, I'm not tonight from eight to nine because I'm with you.
00:31:29.039 --> 00:31:30.000
I choose to be with you.
00:31:30.160 --> 00:31:31.680
Well, we'll watch across that project.
00:31:32.000 --> 00:31:32.559
AEW.
00:31:32.720 --> 00:31:33.120
AEW.
00:31:33.360 --> 00:31:33.920
We'll talk about that later.
00:31:34.080 --> 00:31:36.880
See, I put it on Wednesday so I didn't miss Raw or SmackDown.
00:31:36.960 --> 00:31:37.440
How about that?
00:31:38.080 --> 00:31:38.799
You selfish.
00:31:39.039 --> 00:31:41.440
Uh uh, let's talk big blue wall.
00:31:41.680 --> 00:31:46.319
Kentucky's projected offensive line has 91 combined career start.
00:31:46.640 --> 00:31:47.600
That sounds like a lot.
00:31:47.759 --> 00:31:51.920
The expected core includes uh Herd, uh Shabala.
00:31:52.160 --> 00:32:00.559
I'm gonna print a butcher that Shabala, Price, Selm, and Tegras Shabbala, Shabala, um from Ohio State.
00:32:00.799 --> 00:32:01.120
Okay.
00:32:01.440 --> 00:32:18.799
Um, I think what I'm my notes, evaluation points for for an offensive line, no free rushers, a clean interior pocket, movement at the point of attack, no drive killing, holding penalties, communication against stunts, finishing blocks, sustained success on third and short.
00:32:18.880 --> 00:32:28.720
So the question I pose to you guys, David, if Kentucky's offensive line cannot control Youngstown State, would that concern you more than anything Minchie might do?
00:32:28.880 --> 00:32:29.759
Uh yes.
00:32:29.920 --> 00:32:32.160
Yeah, and that would be in a word, yeah.
00:32:32.400 --> 00:32:32.960
Very good.
00:32:33.039 --> 00:32:35.680
Minchie should be breakfast, lunch, and dinner back there.
00:32:36.240 --> 00:32:36.400
Right.
00:32:36.799 --> 00:32:37.039
Should.
00:32:37.120 --> 00:32:37.279
Yeah.
00:32:37.440 --> 00:32:38.559
Paul, same to you.
00:32:38.720 --> 00:32:43.759
I don't know if you've seen how big our offensive line is, but you've got you've got 6'8, 329.
00:32:44.160 --> 00:32:48.319
Uh I mean, Colton Price is a 6'3, 308-pound center.
00:32:48.400 --> 00:32:51.279
That's a big center, and he's played a lot of football.
00:32:51.440 --> 00:32:54.559
Uh uh Alinian is 6'6, 329.
00:32:54.880 --> 00:32:59.200
You've got um Shibala is 6'3, 329.
00:32:59.519 --> 00:33:04.799
Um, you've got other guys that I don't even know if like, you know, Malachi Woods, 6'8, 329.
00:33:04.960 --> 00:33:06.559
Um, you got a lot of size.
00:33:06.640 --> 00:33:10.960
This is a this is probably the biggest offensive line we've had in a long time.
00:33:11.120 --> 00:33:17.200
Um, the real question with these guys is how how do they just gel together with their stunts, their protection packages?
00:33:17.360 --> 00:33:19.759
Um, that's where you might see uh an oopsey.
00:33:19.840 --> 00:33:20.400
You kind of hope.
00:33:20.480 --> 00:33:34.319
Like if you're if you're if you are the off, if you're the offensive line coach in this game, you kind of hope Youngstown State throws a lot of just exotic looks at your uh blitzes so you can see how that looks before you go into Alabama because you know you're about to get a bunch of uh exotic blitzes.
00:33:34.480 --> 00:33:37.840
Not saying that listen, there's a lot of a lot of these guys have played a lot of football.
00:33:38.000 --> 00:33:40.480
Um, but it'd be good for them to get tested that way.
00:33:40.559 --> 00:33:50.240
But I mean, no, listen, like we should be averaging five or six yards a carry, and I Minchie should literally be standing back there, you know, smoking a pipe and having a bourbon.
00:33:50.400 --> 00:33:53.759
Um if he's running for his life in this game, I'm I'm nervous.
00:33:53.920 --> 00:33:54.960
I'm very nervous.
00:33:55.440 --> 00:33:56.319
Fair, fair.
00:33:56.559 --> 00:33:57.279
All right, let's go.
00:33:57.360 --> 00:33:58.960
Uh let's talk defense.
00:33:59.200 --> 00:34:06.960
Um, we got um Bo Brungard is uh the reigning Walter Peyton Award winner in 2025.
00:34:07.120 --> 00:34:14.239
Uh he passed for 23 over 3,000 yards, a lot of a lot of stats for him in their opening game.
00:34:14.400 --> 00:34:17.840
Um he passed for 232 yards, three touchdowns, blah blah blah.
00:34:18.319 --> 00:34:24.400
So the question is can can Kentucky pressure Brungard without losing rush lap discipline?
00:34:24.480 --> 00:34:25.360
Yeah, they should.
00:34:25.599 --> 00:34:26.400
I mean, they should.
00:34:26.559 --> 00:34:29.039
Uh Stein was very complimentary of him yesterday.
00:34:29.119 --> 00:34:32.319
He said he's probably one of the best, he said he's one of the best players in the nation.
00:34:32.480 --> 00:34:37.759
Does a FCS FPS said he probably starts on 90% of the SEC teams today?
00:34:37.920 --> 00:34:38.239
Wow.
00:34:38.319 --> 00:34:41.920
Uh I'm sitting here going, like, hey, Kenny Minchie goes to the NFL next year.
00:34:42.159 --> 00:34:44.719
I mean, is he recruiting this guy right now?
00:34:44.880 --> 00:34:47.599
You know, um, but uh said he's very difficult.
00:34:47.679 --> 00:34:54.319
Uh he can make uh make you know, make the lateral throws, uh, but he's he kind of compared to a linebacker that can throw the ball 60 yards.
00:34:54.399 --> 00:34:57.199
Uh so he can, you know, he gets out of the pocket, he's delusive.
00:34:57.279 --> 00:34:59.279
Um, it's really just run gap discipline.
00:34:59.439 --> 00:35:08.719
Uh, you got our front, our front, you know, is probably the most is the deepest, uh, best full on unit, at least going into the season.
00:35:08.799 --> 00:35:13.919
I mean, maybe it's not, you know, maybe maybe the wide receiving core has the potential to overtake that.
00:35:14.079 --> 00:35:17.359
Um, but you know, you've got a lot of size in the middle.
00:35:17.439 --> 00:35:19.519
Um, you've got you got a lot of size there.
00:35:19.599 --> 00:35:21.759
You got a lot of size on the edge, you got a lot of speed.
00:35:21.919 --> 00:35:26.879
This is another area where it's like we this quarterback should be running for his life the whole game.
00:35:27.039 --> 00:35:28.639
Um, you got to dominate.
00:35:28.799 --> 00:35:33.919
And the two strongest units on the on the team are probably our both line plays.
00:35:34.000 --> 00:35:38.000
Uh, and you just want to see him blowing up plays and and just, you know, he's gonna get his.
00:35:38.079 --> 00:35:38.879
It is what it is.
00:35:39.119 --> 00:35:41.679
You just want to, you know, see, make sure that they contain.
00:35:41.919 --> 00:35:42.159
Yeah.
00:35:42.319 --> 00:35:50.159
Uh, real quick before we go to defensive front, um, staying with uh Brungaard, uh, David, what's your thoughts uh on him?
00:35:50.319 --> 00:35:51.919
Oh, I mean, I think he's gonna be a stud.
00:35:52.159 --> 00:35:54.399
My my buddy, you guys remember Bunchy Stallings.
00:35:54.799 --> 00:35:57.759
He's uh he's uh GA for them uh now.
00:35:57.919 --> 00:36:01.119
And uh Ammar Stewart's one of the best coaches I've been around.
00:36:01.199 --> 00:36:07.279
So, you know, even you know, if we lacked any talent, like those guys are gonna be ready to play and they're gonna have the right mentality.
00:36:07.359 --> 00:36:09.679
And so, you know, I I think he's gonna have a great season.
00:36:09.759 --> 00:36:12.079
I always like say the the lines should be shifting.
00:36:12.159 --> 00:36:19.039
If our D line's really good, we should be always like you should see four or five guys in you know in the backfield, you know, like five yards deep.
00:36:19.119 --> 00:36:23.519
If we're on offense, our O line should be like every play, four or five guys like five yards up.
00:36:23.679 --> 00:36:27.839
So I always kind of look at the line like see like, hey, are we like getting movement?
00:36:28.000 --> 00:36:28.879
Are we getting pressured?
00:36:29.359 --> 00:36:34.159
I don't think we're gonna have any issues with that uh this game, but you know, first game, you never know.
00:36:34.399 --> 00:36:35.599
First game, you never know.
00:36:35.759 --> 00:36:38.799
Let's talk uh defensive front impact players.
00:36:38.879 --> 00:36:42.239
We got Humphrey Grace, 18 and a half career sacks.
00:36:42.319 --> 00:36:43.519
That's a nice little number.
00:36:43.599 --> 00:37:02.319
Uh Sam Green, veteran edge presence front returning from injury, Jamarian Harkless, 346-pound interior anchor, Tabion Gatson, experienced defensive tackle, Tyler Thomas, additional pressure off the edge, Lorenzo Cowan, athletic outside linebacker.
00:37:02.480 --> 00:37:04.000
Um, right out of the gate.
00:37:04.079 --> 00:37:08.639
Again, what do you need, Paul, to see from this uh front defensive press?
00:37:08.879 --> 00:37:10.079
Press, press, pressure.
00:37:10.239 --> 00:37:11.679
I want to see him get pressure with four guys.
00:37:11.759 --> 00:37:12.960
I don't want to have to bring a fifth.
00:37:13.359 --> 00:37:15.039
Um, clog the running lanes.
00:37:15.119 --> 00:37:20.159
I mean, listen, the biggest difference between FCS and FBS is you're is is is on the line.
00:37:20.239 --> 00:37:23.279
Like you can have skill guys, guys can run really fast.
00:37:23.439 --> 00:37:24.879
It's size, you know.
00:37:25.039 --> 00:37:28.879
Um, if we get pushed around at all, like again, I don't think we're gonna have to worry about it.
00:37:28.960 --> 00:37:32.000
Um, it'll be good to see like some guys like CJ works and want to see him.
00:37:32.079 --> 00:37:35.599
Like, I heard a lot of good stuff about him uh, you know, coming out of camp.
00:37:35.679 --> 00:37:37.359
Uh, there's a couple other guys.
00:37:37.439 --> 00:37:40.960
Um, you know, like look, Brian Robinson was like a huge recruit we got.
00:37:41.039 --> 00:37:42.559
Like he's been in the program for two years.
00:37:42.719 --> 00:37:44.079
Is he kind of taking a turn?
00:37:44.159 --> 00:37:49.439
Like, is he a guy that can start to contribute tons of talent as compared to a lot of NFL guys when he got here?
00:37:49.519 --> 00:37:54.079
Um, so I want to see that that pressure with that again, same thing on offense.
00:37:54.159 --> 00:37:56.879
You don't want to show a lot of you don't want to show a lot of exotic looks.
00:37:57.039 --> 00:38:02.159
You want to run in your base 3-4-4-3, you know, whatever, 3-3-4, whatever they're gonna run.
00:38:02.319 --> 00:38:08.639
Apparently, you know, we can we're a we're a multi-set defense now, which I also like, and just run up and punch them in the mouth.
00:38:08.719 --> 00:38:11.199
Um, I hope we're playing backups by the third quarter.
00:38:11.359 --> 00:38:12.239
That's what you really want.
00:38:12.399 --> 00:38:15.599
Get in there, kick their ass, dominate, let the other guys get in.
00:38:15.679 --> 00:38:21.279
And if they give up yards because you got, you know, freshmen and you know, dudes that have never played football coming in, so be it.
00:38:21.359 --> 00:38:22.399
Um, but that's what you want.
00:38:22.480 --> 00:38:25.759
You want those game reps because those guys could be important later in the season.
00:38:25.919 --> 00:38:34.960
Uh, what Kentucky must do again on defense, set firm edges, uh, prevent escape lanes through the middle, avoid overrunning the quarterback.
00:38:35.199 --> 00:38:39.039
That's always that's that's been a uh pet peeve of mine in past teams.
00:38:39.199 --> 00:38:48.639
Win first down, rotate defensive lineman, force Sbrungard into predictable third and long situations, tackle him once, no second opportunity.
00:38:48.799 --> 00:38:55.519
David, when an offense faces a quarterback this good, how does that affect the entire team, not just the defense?
00:38:55.679 --> 00:38:59.279
Yeah, I think there's just always like, you know, kind of a flow of the game.
00:38:59.359 --> 00:39:01.599
Like there's always just just a rhythm to it.
00:39:01.839 --> 00:39:23.039
And uh, you know, with with the defense, you know, Kevin, like a lot of the guys you said, it's a good thing is we got a lot of those stoops, Brad White guys that uh stayed behind because I know there was a lot of frustration there at the end with with stoops and and the offense, but like they're really good uh coaches on defense, and you know, they had those guys always always playing right on their responsibilities.
00:39:23.199 --> 00:39:39.599
So I mean, I you know, I think that's a big deal that we got a lot of those guys returning because you know that staple of that defense was was discipline doing your job, and uh stoops and brad white was the best uh best defensive play callers and coaches you see in the country just having the dudes sometimes.
00:39:39.759 --> 00:39:43.359
But um, you know, I think uh I think we'll be we'll be all right on that front.
00:39:43.599 --> 00:39:46.639
Well, there's no question the frustration was offense the last few years.
00:39:46.799 --> 00:39:51.519
I mean, it was very frustrating knowing that if you got down 14-0, you're probably out.
00:39:51.679 --> 00:39:53.199
You you're probably done, you know.
00:39:53.599 --> 00:39:54.799
And and you know this.
00:39:54.960 --> 00:40:05.759
There's game, I mean, you played in games where you came back and and like I mean, Missouri, that was I gotta tell you, man, that was one of the most boring 50 minutes of 55 minutes of football.
00:40:05.919 --> 00:40:10.079
I think I punched myself in the face several times just watching it, just because it was so bad.
00:40:10.159 --> 00:40:10.799
And then you won.
00:40:11.039 --> 00:40:13.199
Oh yeah, I was in the game and I did the same thing.
00:40:13.279 --> 00:40:17.119
So I mean, it was hey, you had some big catches in that game, though.
00:40:17.279 --> 00:40:23.199
So I I I think the the the thing with with like you said, like there's a lot of like good defensive players that stuck around.
00:40:23.279 --> 00:40:26.239
I mean, Marquise Humphrey Grayson, like that's an NFL guy.
00:40:26.399 --> 00:40:27.599
Um, Georgia wanted him.
00:40:27.679 --> 00:40:30.399
We got him over Georgia in the transfer portal last year.
00:40:30.559 --> 00:40:33.759
I you know, that's why our defensive line is so damn deep.
00:40:33.919 --> 00:40:35.519
A lot of these guys stayed.
00:40:35.759 --> 00:40:39.199
Um, so you're gonna have a lot of experience on both fronts.
00:40:39.839 --> 00:40:40.159
Yeah.
00:40:40.399 --> 00:40:41.519
Uh let's go.
00:40:41.599 --> 00:40:43.519
Uh, linebackers, guys.
00:40:43.599 --> 00:40:50.079
Uh, players to watch Bo Barnes, Grant Godfrey, Antoine Smith, uh, Tabian Wallace.
00:40:50.480 --> 00:40:55.919
Um who takes responsibility for Brungard on design runs?
00:40:56.079 --> 00:40:57.839
Um, probably Godfrey.
00:40:57.919 --> 00:41:04.000
Um, I think they've talked about Ty Bryant and Godfrey both getting the green sticker, calling the plays for the defense.
00:41:04.079 --> 00:41:07.599
Uh, they said it would probably they it might be a game by game thing to it.
00:41:07.679 --> 00:41:08.799
They love his game.
00:41:08.960 --> 00:41:11.679
Uh they you know they've been very complimentary about it.
00:41:11.839 --> 00:41:12.559
Bo Barnes.
00:41:12.639 --> 00:41:20.079
I think if you just look at like for like the two biggest, most potential linebackers on the team are Tavian Gaston and Bo Barnes.
00:41:20.319 --> 00:41:22.960
Um, freak athletes, big boys, right?
00:41:23.119 --> 00:41:24.480
Big freak athletes.
00:41:24.639 --> 00:41:25.759
Will they play the most?
00:41:25.839 --> 00:41:26.239
I don't know.
00:41:26.319 --> 00:41:35.439
I kind of look at it in like when like uh Djack um and Oates, um, those types of guys were young and they were getting reps and making plays.
00:41:35.519 --> 00:41:36.960
They were very good in the game.
00:41:37.039 --> 00:41:42.799
Uh, but you had, you know, you had um cash in front of them, you know, that type of like they played, right?
00:41:42.879 --> 00:41:44.719
Like they were very, but it set them up.
00:41:44.879 --> 00:41:46.480
I think you might see that a little bit here.
00:41:46.639 --> 00:41:49.839
Obviously, Alex Safari, there's a good chance he's gonna play.
00:41:49.919 --> 00:41:50.879
Uh he's cleared.
00:41:51.039 --> 00:41:53.439
I don't know if he's going, I don't he's not playing this week.
00:41:53.519 --> 00:41:58.159
And Will Stein said there's a little bit that they want to make sure of before he plays, but I think he will practice.
00:41:58.319 --> 00:42:03.919
You get Alex Safari back, that changes the game because you got a guy who's put a lot of football, he's got good speed, he's put on some more weight.
00:42:04.079 --> 00:42:07.839
Um, he changes the linebacker room, in my opinion, just because he adds that depth piece.
00:42:07.919 --> 00:42:11.919
Now you got Grant Godfrey, Bo Barnes, you know, you've got Alex Safari.
00:42:12.079 --> 00:42:14.559
So I think you have a little bit more to play with there.
00:42:14.719 --> 00:42:16.159
Um, I like the team.
00:42:16.319 --> 00:42:17.839
I I like the linebackers.
00:42:18.079 --> 00:42:19.919
I just don't think we're super deep there.
00:42:20.000 --> 00:42:27.839
Um, and you're gonna need someone like Barnes or Tavian Gats, um, Tavian Wallace to really take another step to be successful there.
00:42:28.159 --> 00:42:28.960
And health is big.
00:42:29.119 --> 00:42:33.279
Yeah, I think I think it's huge for Barnes and Gatson to be the guys and getting a lot of the reps.
00:42:33.359 --> 00:42:36.639
This the D-line, you you rotate a lot with those guys.
00:42:36.799 --> 00:42:39.599
You know, they're big boys, they're not conditioned like uh receivers.
00:42:39.679 --> 00:42:43.599
Or so if they're gonna be on the field a lot, you maybe sub in one or two guys.
00:42:43.759 --> 00:42:48.799
So I think them being impact players and living up to expectations is is is huge.
00:42:49.039 --> 00:42:54.079
And I'm always you know, I know we're talking linebackers, but Ty Bryant's kind of kind of a linebacker build.
00:42:54.159 --> 00:42:59.359
He gets in the box, and he, you know, him being kind of the leader of that defense, I think is huge.
00:42:59.599 --> 00:43:03.679
Big three-time stability, and he's uh you know, he's just a heck of a player.
00:43:03.759 --> 00:43:04.879
You know, he's he's super smart.
00:43:05.039 --> 00:43:16.480
Last time I talked to him, when I when I saw him, not to get off track, but uh we talked about hunt returning for probably 20 minutes, and we were just like, man, isn't that the scariest thing ever?
00:43:16.639 --> 00:43:17.599
Like people don't understand.
00:43:18.079 --> 00:43:18.480
That's right.
00:43:18.639 --> 00:43:20.799
You you did punt retards, right?
00:43:20.960 --> 00:43:21.839
Yeah, yeah.
00:43:22.399 --> 00:43:25.759
I mean, that is to me, is like, oh my god.
00:43:25.839 --> 00:43:33.759
Yeah, you just with it uh we're we'll get to that in a minute because that's that's a crazy that position, anyways.
00:43:34.079 --> 00:43:39.039
Let's uh let's uh fair or foul, guys.
00:43:39.199 --> 00:43:44.879
If Brumgard is repeatedly reaching the secondary untouched, Kentucky is not playing sound defense.
00:43:45.359 --> 00:43:48.480
If that's happening, I'm terrified of what the season looks like.
00:43:48.719 --> 00:43:58.399
I know that's yeah, because you got I mean, you got guys like I think Lenora Sellers is a bum, but the dude can run, he can't throw with a shit, but he can run.
00:43:58.639 --> 00:44:05.919
Um, there's some dudes in that uh on the schedule that if you're front, listen, that's not if we got big problems to talk about.
00:44:06.000 --> 00:44:15.359
If we it's it will happen, it is it will, you know, he's gonna get his one or two, but if it's like six, I'm like, nah, at least against the front.
00:44:15.519 --> 00:44:16.719
He starts doing it in the fourth quarter.
00:44:16.799 --> 00:44:19.679
If he's still in it, it's against the backups, then you know, it is what it is.
00:44:19.839 --> 00:44:23.039
Um, you want to see against the starters, you start seeing that a lot.
00:44:23.119 --> 00:44:28.480
When boy, I everyone starts going into the game, everyone's real excited about September twelfth.
00:44:28.559 --> 00:44:34.719
You start seeing some people going, you know, it's gonna be a good tailgate, but I don't know about this game.
00:44:35.199 --> 00:44:35.839
Oh no.
00:44:36.079 --> 00:44:37.599
All right, let's go secondary, guys.
00:44:37.759 --> 00:44:39.039
Impact players, Ty Bryant.
00:44:39.439 --> 00:44:44.399
Jordan Castell, Aaron Gates, Hassan Sykes, Kevis Thomas.
00:44:44.639 --> 00:44:48.079
Brian enters with five career interceptions.
00:44:48.319 --> 00:44:50.719
Uh Castell and Sykes have three apiece.
00:44:50.960 --> 00:44:53.199
Um, do you want question, guys?
00:44:53.359 --> 00:45:03.119
Do you want Kentucky to play aggressively and risk giving up a big play or keep everything in in front and force young sound state to execute long drives?
00:45:03.359 --> 00:45:13.359
I tell you what, I'm not miss gonna miss Brad White's zone defense and you know, giving up everything anyway, some wars.
00:45:13.839 --> 00:45:19.839
So again, that question that that I gotta tell you though, like the most infuriating thing in the world was that Clemson thing.
00:45:20.079 --> 00:45:23.759
Like blitz, blitz, blitz, blitz, blitz, sack fourth and 19.
00:45:23.839 --> 00:45:24.239
Let's go.
00:45:24.399 --> 00:45:25.759
Three-man pre-vent zone.
00:45:25.839 --> 00:45:34.399
There's a thing about the soups there, the one thing about the soups there that made me want to punch myself in the face was a three-man prevent on fourth or third and long.
00:45:34.480 --> 00:45:40.719
And we would always have our buttholes would always pucker because they'd get like two yards away all the time.
00:45:41.039 --> 00:45:42.000
I'd sometimes get it.
00:45:42.079 --> 00:45:42.799
It drove me nuts.
00:45:42.879 --> 00:45:44.079
And then, like the Clemson thing.
00:45:44.159 --> 00:45:47.759
Anyway, you get also back to um I think the secondary is an interesting thing.
00:45:47.839 --> 00:45:51.119
There's guys that have played a lot of ball, there's guys that come in with a lot of question marks.
00:45:51.279 --> 00:45:53.919
We got some dudes, you know, obviously the guy from Florida.
00:45:54.000 --> 00:45:56.399
I don't know everybody's name right now, guys, so don't kill me.
00:45:56.719 --> 00:45:58.159
I know I can tell you who like guys.
00:45:58.399 --> 00:46:02.799
That's why I'm looking, but you got guys back like Nazir Addison, Tarayan Nichols, obviously Ty Bryant.
00:46:02.879 --> 00:46:04.079
So you have guys that came back.
00:46:04.239 --> 00:46:08.239
Um, so that's you know, that's uh that's a positive.
00:46:08.399 --> 00:46:11.599
Um, Aaron Gates, Jordan Castell, both guys from Florida.
00:46:11.759 --> 00:46:15.119
We also beat the dog shit out of Florida last year, and Florida wasn't very good.
00:46:15.519 --> 00:46:19.279
Um now, guy, now systematically that can change the guys around you.
00:46:19.359 --> 00:46:20.159
That can change.
00:46:20.319 --> 00:46:21.519
Um, everybody knows this.
00:46:21.599 --> 00:46:27.919
Like sometimes you get a guy, he's a player, he's not, you know, doesn't look very good in one system or on one team goes another, and you're just like, where was that guy, right?
00:46:28.159 --> 00:46:30.079
Feel cheated as a fan of the other team.
00:46:30.239 --> 00:46:34.559
Um, so there's a lot of experience, and I think to David's point when he's talking about like Ty Bryant, right?
00:46:34.639 --> 00:46:42.960
Like he's seen a lot of football, he's gonna see a lot of stuff in front of him that will help you anticipate and can maybe stop big plays, uh, especially at the position he he's in.
00:46:43.039 --> 00:46:45.599
Um, I think there's talent at the in the secondary.
00:46:45.759 --> 00:46:47.119
I don't think there's a lot of depth.
00:46:47.279 --> 00:46:49.439
Um, and this is the story of this team.
00:46:49.599 --> 00:46:56.239
I think you've got you've got depth at line, you've got depth at wide receiver, you've got depth on the D line.
00:46:56.480 --> 00:47:00.079
And when I say depth at wide receiver, it's like talented, but there's no prove it.
00:47:00.559 --> 00:47:08.639
If I'm gonna have a place where I have unproven talent, I'd rather go wide receiver than cornerback because you can like say, go run, run ball, catch ball, right?
00:47:08.799 --> 00:47:15.359
Like there's ways you can hide that a little bit more harder to hide on the secondary, especially in the SEC with some of these big physical wide receivers.
00:47:15.439 --> 00:47:18.159
So health is gonna be a big, big key to our secondary.
00:47:18.319 --> 00:47:21.119
If they stay healthy, I think we're gonna have a pretty damn good defense.
00:47:21.199 --> 00:47:24.399
I think it'll be top of the top half of the SEC.
00:47:24.559 --> 00:47:30.239
If we don't, and we have issues, and I worry about that with like Nichols, he's had some, you know, get spanged up.
00:47:30.319 --> 00:47:32.480
Well, it could be a lot harder of a season.
00:47:32.559 --> 00:47:35.599
It's gonna put a lot of pressure on the front, the front four, front seven.
00:47:35.679 --> 00:47:43.839
But if the front if the front is as good as we hope it is, you know, putting pressure on the quarterback in obvious passing situations, I think will help take some pressure off that.
00:47:43.919 --> 00:47:48.000
Because one of the things that that'll help any a secondary, no matter what, is speeding up the quarterback.
00:47:48.079 --> 00:47:51.119
And if they could speed the quarterback up, they're gonna, they'll be, they'll be all right.
00:47:51.359 --> 00:47:56.960
Um, not to throw uh uh myself into the well, I am good at throw myself.
00:47:57.279 --> 00:47:59.039
Kevin's keys to victory.
00:47:59.119 --> 00:48:01.599
That's gotta be hashtag Kevin keys to victory.
00:48:01.759 --> 00:48:04.799
Start fast, contain Bronguard, control both lines.
00:48:04.960 --> 00:48:22.719
I I'm probably oh cliche at everything, but protect the football, play clean football, as in no busted coverages, no protection breakdowns, no unnecessary penalties, no wasted timeouts, wasted timeouts, no special team disasters, clean substitution, proper clock management.
00:48:22.879 --> 00:48:27.279
How many freaking times you punch yourself in the face over that with in the last few years, Paul?
00:48:27.519 --> 00:48:31.279
I had less of an issue on some of it as some of the other people, but that was just me.
00:48:31.599 --> 00:48:34.719
All right, they were just like, Yeah, I didn't know I was gonna come in those two spash fast.
00:48:34.960 --> 00:48:40.480
What the yeah, Kevin's down like Eddie, Eddie Grant right there with like keys to victory right there.
00:48:41.759 --> 00:48:45.039
Kevin's keys to victory, hashtag Kevin Kitty.
00:48:45.119 --> 00:48:45.839
Yeah, I gotta figure that out.
00:48:46.000 --> 00:48:46.319
Thanks, Eddie.
00:48:46.399 --> 00:48:46.799
That's awesome.
00:48:46.960 --> 00:48:48.719
I need a graphic everything.
00:48:48.879 --> 00:48:50.319
I need my own highlight reel.
00:48:51.599 --> 00:48:54.719
Eddie and Keddy's keys to victory score more points than the other team.
00:48:54.799 --> 00:48:55.439
Thanks, guy.
00:48:56.159 --> 00:48:57.919
Bottom line, bottom line.
00:48:58.239 --> 00:49:04.000
Uh Coach Stein has emphasized details, execution, and accountability through the offseason.
00:49:04.159 --> 00:49:07.359
Saturday is the first public examination.
00:49:07.599 --> 00:49:09.279
So, what constitute?
00:49:09.359 --> 00:49:10.639
I'll throw this at you guys.
00:49:10.799 --> 00:49:13.359
What constitutes a successful season opener?
00:49:13.759 --> 00:49:18.559
David, you will feel good about Kentucky after Saturday if fill in the black.
00:49:19.039 --> 00:49:21.359
We win by 21 plus, I think.
00:49:22.319 --> 00:49:22.799
Is the spread?
00:49:22.879 --> 00:49:23.519
There is a spread.
00:49:23.919 --> 00:49:24.559
23 and a half.
00:49:24.719 --> 00:49:26.399
23 and a half plus okay.
00:49:26.480 --> 00:49:31.039
Then if we win by 23 and a half plus, then I'll cover the spread.
00:49:31.919 --> 00:49:32.399
Yeah, yeah.
00:49:32.480 --> 00:49:37.919
I think I I mean I won't mind him trying new things, and I want the game to be in control, you know.
00:49:38.639 --> 00:49:41.839
We never blew out anyone in the stoops there, but I want the game to be in control.
00:49:41.919 --> 00:49:51.439
And I, you know, I want to see other guys maybe we we've only touched on play well and see what you got, because a lot of guys you don't know what you got until they're playing the game.
00:49:51.679 --> 00:49:54.480
So I I'd like to see the ball being thrown around.
00:49:54.559 --> 00:49:56.159
I'd like to see guys executing.
00:49:56.239 --> 00:49:58.159
I would like to see no big mistakes.
00:49:58.239 --> 00:50:04.480
I'd like to, like Kevin said, just a clean game where everyone's executing and the game is never in doubt.
00:50:04.960 --> 00:50:08.879
Paul, you will feel good about Saturday if we looked the part.
00:50:09.039 --> 00:50:21.119
Um, I think the last time we looked when when I know we ended up looking more the part, you know, the beginning of the 18 season, you know, the first game didn't start well, it but it finished well, right?
00:50:21.279 --> 00:50:32.480
Um I think the first game we really had a we looked the part, and we were good was Levis, the 10-win Levis season came out, what do you throw for 400 yards or something like that?
00:50:33.119 --> 00:50:34.559
You look, you looked it.
00:50:34.639 --> 00:50:37.119
I want Kentucky to look the part, right?
00:50:37.279 --> 00:50:39.599
I want this to be a fun, boring game.
00:50:40.639 --> 00:50:47.759
I don't want to have to be like it's the it's the first quarter, it's 10-3, it's 7-0, it's 10, right?
00:50:47.839 --> 00:50:52.079
Uh you know, score 28, 21, 28 points of the first quarter.
00:50:53.599 --> 00:51:00.960
Feel like you're the team that that could go and give Bama a run for the money the next the next weekend, and I think everyone's gonna be happy.
00:51:01.439 --> 00:51:08.559
What will make me feel good about our cats after Sunday is Mitchie looks completely in control.
00:51:08.719 --> 00:51:10.319
The offensive line dominates.
00:51:10.480 --> 00:51:14.319
Kentucky contains Bromguard, UK commits no turnovers.
00:51:14.480 --> 00:51:16.559
The starters are resting in the fourth quarter.
00:51:16.719 --> 00:51:22.799
Young players receive young players receive meaningful staps, Kentucky avoids significant injuries.
00:51:23.039 --> 00:51:23.599
No injuries.
00:51:23.919 --> 00:51:24.319
No injuries.
00:51:24.480 --> 00:51:24.879
No injuries.
00:51:25.039 --> 00:51:28.159
And we look or we look organized in all three phases.
00:51:28.319 --> 00:51:30.399
I don't care if the game's ugly, just no injuries.
00:51:30.879 --> 00:51:31.759
Yes, yeah, we can.
00:51:32.079 --> 00:51:37.359
Uh we need uh we really need that second half to be uh who who are these guys?
00:51:37.439 --> 00:51:38.559
That's the question you're asked.
00:51:38.719 --> 00:51:39.679
Who are these guys playing?
00:51:39.759 --> 00:51:40.480
But or on the field.
00:51:40.719 --> 00:51:46.319
It'd be good for to get like and Will Stein's a guy, I think, and you know, we didn't see a lot in the stoops era.
00:51:46.559 --> 00:51:52.639
I mean, we didn't have all chances a ton, ton, but we didn't see in the stoops era a ton of like your backup quarterback playing a ton.
00:51:52.799 --> 00:51:59.119
Um, it'd be good to get get that because I think I mean from all intents and purposes, I've heard that that is a hell of a battle right now.
00:51:59.199 --> 00:52:00.239
Like we really I don't know.
00:52:00.399 --> 00:52:07.759
I think they if Minchie got hurt early, I think they know who they would go to, but I think if it gets later in the season, I don't think they I think that could change.
00:52:07.919 --> 00:52:14.799
Uh so it'd be good to see the the backup quarterback get in, the the you know, the maybe that the three guy depth guys are wide receiver.
00:52:14.960 --> 00:52:17.359
Um we just take care of business.
00:52:17.519 --> 00:52:19.279
Take care of business so you don't risk injury.
00:52:19.439 --> 00:52:20.239
Gotta stay healthy.
00:52:20.319 --> 00:52:20.559
Yeah.
00:52:20.799 --> 00:52:33.279
Would you rather see a 50-point exp, you know, offensive explosion or 20 some point uh scoring where the we dominate defensively.
00:52:33.519 --> 00:52:34.559
I want to score 50.
00:52:34.719 --> 00:52:35.359
Yeah, yeah.
00:52:35.839 --> 00:52:41.679
I want the dominators, yeah, deserve uh I think he's gonna try and run it up if I had to get it.
00:52:41.839 --> 00:52:43.039
55-28.
00:52:43.199 --> 00:52:56.159
You give up, you know, you know, one in the first half, one in the third, and maybe two in the fourth with your maybe late in the third, late in the third, two in the fourth with your backups, but you're up 48 to 7 when that happens.
00:52:56.239 --> 00:52:58.719
Like, you know, I think I take that in a heartbeat.
00:52:58.799 --> 00:53:04.719
Um I don't I I you know, I think 28's a lot of points for them to score, but um, I want to see a score.
00:53:04.799 --> 00:53:09.199
Wait, well, it's been a while since we've scored 40 plus in the opening game, I think.
00:53:09.279 --> 00:53:10.719
I don't I gotta go back and look.
00:53:11.039 --> 00:53:13.279
It's been a while since we've maybe Leary.
00:53:13.519 --> 00:53:15.439
I think with that Leary team score like fifth.
00:53:15.599 --> 00:53:16.079
I don't remember.
00:53:16.319 --> 00:53:17.039
It's been a while.
00:53:17.439 --> 00:53:19.119
I think that just goes to looking the part.
00:53:19.679 --> 00:53:19.839
Yep.
00:53:20.000 --> 00:53:20.879
All right, man.
00:53:21.039 --> 00:53:24.639
We are uh rounding third and heading for home here.
00:53:24.719 --> 00:53:26.719
Uh once again, final prediction.
00:53:26.799 --> 00:53:28.639
Give me uh Paul, final score.
00:53:28.719 --> 00:53:29.839
What's what are you seeing?
00:53:30.079 --> 00:53:35.679
I'm gonna say the final score is 48 48 17.
00:53:36.159 --> 00:53:37.359
I'm I'm close.
00:53:37.439 --> 00:53:39.439
I I'll say 38-17.
00:53:39.519 --> 00:53:41.359
What say you, Bouvier?
00:53:41.839 --> 00:53:45.199
Give me give me 4117.
00:53:46.719 --> 00:53:47.919
We all say 17.
00:53:48.079 --> 00:53:51.199
Okay, I think it could be more, but I I have to I I wanna see.
00:53:51.279 --> 00:53:52.399
I don't know what I'm getting into.
00:53:52.559 --> 00:53:58.480
If I say something stupid like 63 to 10, and it's an and it's like 34 to 13, I'm gonna look like an idiot.
00:53:58.559 --> 00:54:01.359
Yeah, so I think it could be worse, but let's just see.
00:54:01.599 --> 00:54:03.839
Do you need that score to look like an idiot?
00:54:04.239 --> 00:54:04.960
I hope so.
00:54:05.119 --> 00:54:07.279
I'm kidding, yeah, kidding.
00:54:07.439 --> 00:54:10.159
Yeah, they'll end up scoring when you're 24 to nothing.
00:54:10.960 --> 00:54:12.879
Uh all right, man.
00:54:13.039 --> 00:54:23.599
Um, bleep boo prime prime time doing our debut on a Wednesday night, impeding my normal Wednesday night festivities.
00:54:23.759 --> 00:54:29.279
But for you, Paul, I I I succumb to it's your voice.
00:54:29.439 --> 00:54:30.799
I can't listen to your voice.
00:54:31.119 --> 00:54:31.359
I do.
00:54:31.679 --> 00:54:35.279
It's the cadence in your voice that just talks me into doing stuff.
00:54:35.519 --> 00:54:36.399
This was your idea.
00:54:36.480 --> 00:54:37.519
I don't know what you're talking about.
00:54:37.759 --> 00:54:42.960
You came to me for this, but but you like the idea, and we're you know, we're we're a team, right?
00:54:43.119 --> 00:54:43.519
We're a team.
00:54:43.759 --> 00:54:46.079
I like the idea of talking, it's kind of my thing.
00:54:46.399 --> 00:54:48.159
Not to put Bouvier on the spot.
00:54:48.319 --> 00:54:58.960
This is where on every Wednesday night prime time we're gonna be talking, you know, recapping, looking ahead, you know, having a former player on with us, you know, is pretty cool.
00:54:59.119 --> 00:55:01.199
So David I got a question for David, though.
00:55:01.359 --> 00:55:17.519
Like as a as a Kentucky fan, and then you played for Kentucky, because you know all the history, like it's hard to get the juju out of your head when you're playing a game like a Missouri, does it did it ever like go in your mind of like F, like we're gonna get this close again and it's not gonna happen?
00:55:17.599 --> 00:55:20.000
Like, did that ever get in like in your head?
00:55:20.159 --> 00:55:23.039
Like the history, did that ever come to pass there?
00:55:23.439 --> 00:55:25.359
I mean, it's it's it was hard not to.
00:55:25.439 --> 00:55:32.239
I think as like the first like couple games, I think I mean knocking down that uh you know, knocking off Florida was a big, big deal.
00:55:32.319 --> 00:55:36.159
And you know, you could just kind of tell going into the season that that team, this team's gonna be different.
00:55:36.239 --> 00:55:40.960
You know, we all kind of got like a winning mentality, we all want to do something more, we all want to make history.
00:55:41.119 --> 00:55:45.039
And that uh, you know, that Missouri game, I mean, that was it was looking bleak.
00:55:45.119 --> 00:55:51.439
I was definitely saying I definitely said this looks this looks bleak, but you know, our defense, I think they that was Drew Locke at quarterback, too.
00:55:51.759 --> 00:55:52.960
Shut him out in the second half, I think.
00:55:53.039 --> 00:55:56.079
Right, they didn't get a first down, I think, in the second half.
00:55:56.319 --> 00:56:01.839
Not one first down, and then you know, two-minute drill so many times in a season, we we marched down the field and scored.
00:56:01.919 --> 00:56:04.559
We should have just done that all year, it's just done two-minute drill and offense.
00:56:04.799 --> 00:56:08.319
But um, and then Lynn Bowden stoops would have had heart failure.
00:56:08.480 --> 00:56:09.119
Yeah.
00:56:09.439 --> 00:56:11.839
And look, and then Lynn Bowden returning that punt.
00:56:12.239 --> 00:56:15.679
A lot of people know me and him split responsibilities in punt return.
00:56:15.839 --> 00:56:24.000
It was up to us who goes out there, and we would just be like, and I did it 90% of the time because Lynn wasn't comfortable back there uh doing punt returns.
00:56:24.079 --> 00:56:27.839
But that Missouri game, he was just like, he was like, Boo, I'm hot right now.
00:56:27.919 --> 00:56:28.319
I'm hot.
00:56:28.480 --> 00:56:32.239
And I was like, dude, go go out there right now, returns it for a touchdown.
00:56:32.399 --> 00:56:35.439
He was just a huge, incredible guy in open space.
00:56:35.519 --> 00:56:37.759
And then Penn State, he did it, did the same thing.
00:56:37.839 --> 00:56:38.879
He was just like, I'm feeling it.
00:56:39.119 --> 00:56:41.199
I was like, dude, go, please go out there.
00:56:41.359 --> 00:56:44.719
Then he scores scores a touchdown, and then he comes back.
00:56:44.799 --> 00:56:46.559
Uh, you know, we get a quick three and out.
00:56:46.719 --> 00:56:48.559
He's like, he's like, Boo, I'm so tired.
00:56:48.639 --> 00:56:49.599
Like, you have to go out there.
00:56:49.759 --> 00:56:50.799
I was like, no way.
00:56:53.919 --> 00:56:55.599
I'm gonna get really hyped.
00:56:55.759 --> 00:56:57.279
I'm gonna get booed if I go out there.
00:56:57.359 --> 00:56:58.879
Yeah, go fair catch it, dude.
00:56:58.960 --> 00:57:00.159
Just go out there and do this.
00:57:00.319 --> 00:57:01.599
Yeah, I was like, dude, you can't.
00:57:01.759 --> 00:57:03.759
Well, if you got booed, think about it.
00:57:03.919 --> 00:57:06.639
Is it are you getting booed or are they saying booed?
00:57:09.039 --> 00:57:10.239
Yeah, boo, yeah.
00:57:10.799 --> 00:57:16.000
I mean, real quick, real quick, tell give me the the mentality of punt return.
00:57:16.319 --> 00:57:20.079
I mean, it's what me and like Ty were saying.
00:57:20.159 --> 00:57:26.000
It's like you just kind of like first just gotta catch a thousand balls in the summer because there's you just want it to be second nature.
00:57:26.079 --> 00:57:27.199
You just want to catch like as many.
00:57:27.519 --> 00:57:29.199
The catching part I'm not worried about.
00:57:29.279 --> 00:57:35.119
It's the uh it's these freak athletes coming at you, you know, at 35 miles an hour.
00:57:35.279 --> 00:57:44.079
Yeah, I was my my routine was first to say an hour father, and then yeah, and then I'd kind of look look out there, I would say, like, all right, did the the gunner win?
00:57:44.239 --> 00:57:50.079
All right, he did, like, you know, and then just kind of do a quick glance and see if uh we're gonna fair catch or not.
00:57:50.159 --> 00:57:52.239
I always erred on you know, fair catching.
00:57:52.319 --> 00:57:54.559
So uh was there ever a time?
00:57:55.199 --> 00:57:59.599
Was there ever a time you got hit so hard that you literally wanted your mom?
00:58:00.079 --> 00:58:00.719
Yeah, yeah.
00:58:00.960 --> 00:58:09.679
I mean, I think uh yeah, Central Michigan in the first game, I got hit on the sideline, and you know, it was it was kind of one of those like I uh where where am I right now?
00:58:09.919 --> 00:58:11.359
And I kind of bounced back quick.
00:58:11.439 --> 00:58:25.679
So that you know, it was uh but I think the biggest thing was just the the stadium, like Texas AM, 100,000 people, and you know, you're kind of on an island and you got an Aussie punter who's you know can kick it 65 yards or he's gonna roll out.
00:58:25.759 --> 00:58:29.919
So you just seeing the ball off a foot and kind of making quick decisions was uh was difficult.
00:58:30.000 --> 00:58:35.279
I don't I don't really miss it too much, but um you know I I didn't I didn't mind it at the time.
00:58:35.519 --> 00:58:38.239
I asked you actually get to go to games, David.
00:58:39.039 --> 00:58:39.599
Oh, yeah, yeah.
00:58:40.000 --> 00:58:43.519
I got got season tickets and uh go to go to every game I can.
00:58:43.759 --> 00:58:47.679
I think Tom wants to talk to you about well I I asked Cash this.
00:58:48.079 --> 00:58:51.919
Um it'll be kidding because so I got a defensive guy opinion on it.
00:58:52.159 --> 00:58:54.399
What happened in that Tennessee game?
00:58:54.559 --> 00:58:55.919
Obviously, they were not good.
00:58:56.399 --> 00:59:05.679
Cash's thing was Georgia was such an emotional game because it was playing at home for the SEC's title, and it just kind of sucked the wind out of you guys for a week.
00:59:05.919 --> 00:59:09.679
Curious to hear kind of what your thoughts on that, uh what your take on it is for that game.
00:59:09.839 --> 00:59:10.399
I remember that.
00:59:10.480 --> 00:59:11.039
Yeah, yeah.
00:59:11.119 --> 00:59:13.039
I think I think Cash is right with that.
00:59:13.119 --> 00:59:24.319
Like it was just such a build-up during the week with like SEC network coming and interviews during it was uh I I think, and you just kind of felt before the game the the juice wasn't there with with the team.
00:59:24.399 --> 00:59:32.960
I think Stoops kind of he never had too much problems motivating us, but that game he was like, Yeah, I still kind of remember him being like, you know, I'm not really feeling it right now, guys.
00:59:33.039 --> 00:59:34.639
Let's let's step it up, let's get it going.
00:59:34.719 --> 00:59:38.000
I just think we never really, you know, kind of uh kind of got it going.
00:59:38.079 --> 00:59:39.039
And it was it was tough.
00:59:39.119 --> 00:59:40.719
And it was a weird Tennessee thing.
00:59:40.799 --> 00:59:46.480
I mean, a few times I've been there the years before, like it was just rowdy and it was always like a noon or three o'clock game.
00:59:46.719 --> 00:59:48.559
There's a lot of UK fans at that game.
00:59:48.719 --> 00:59:54.559
Yeah, there's a more you there's a lot of UK fans, but it still wasn't like you know, it's didn't have that hype around it.
00:59:54.639 --> 00:59:59.039
We never truly got it going, and you know, it was uh it was just one of those games.
00:59:59.119 --> 01:00:01.759
We just uh couldn't couldn't get a groove, couldn't get a flow going.
01:00:02.000 --> 01:00:04.879
Is that one you wish you had back, like of all the games you played?
01:00:04.960 --> 01:00:07.279
Because that that was like they just were not good.
01:00:07.519 --> 01:00:09.119
Yeah, no, definitely.
01:00:09.279 --> 01:00:11.519
I mean, I think they finished five and seven or something.
01:00:11.679 --> 01:00:16.239
It was just it was just such a nice opportunity to get a win against Tennessee and Florida.
01:00:16.639 --> 01:00:21.759
It took us out of but it and it took us out of the the the the New Year six games.
01:00:21.919 --> 01:00:22.239
Right.
01:00:22.399 --> 01:00:23.279
Yeah, that's good.
01:00:23.679 --> 01:00:26.159
I think we were weren't we still scared like Peach Bowl?
01:00:26.480 --> 01:00:30.000
I think there it was like talking about Peach Bowl and Michigan or something like that.
01:00:30.159 --> 01:00:39.199
I remember I know it was Peach Bowl and some or an orange bowl, I think that they were we were still potentially in for, and then obviously sorry to bring up bad memory on that.
01:00:39.279 --> 01:00:40.719
But yeah, thanks, thanks, Paul.
01:00:40.799 --> 01:00:41.279
No, I'm sure.
01:00:42.480 --> 01:00:45.759
No, it's it's interesting because because like then it was the bounce back, right?
01:00:45.839 --> 01:00:49.359
Like beat the piss out of Tennessee uh or or U of L.
01:00:49.679 --> 01:00:52.319
Um, and then you know ultimately win against Penn State.
01:00:52.399 --> 01:01:03.599
That's the game I know a lot of Kentucky fans look at in that season because it was like it just felt like it was just a weird, like we didn't really play a stinker all season, and that was it was a dud.
01:01:03.679 --> 01:01:06.879
Yeah, it was and it had to be against those orange bastards.
01:01:07.119 --> 01:01:10.480
I know, I know orange bastards.
01:01:13.439 --> 01:01:14.319
Yeah, trust me.
01:01:15.839 --> 01:01:17.439
Uh that was that was a tough one.
01:01:17.519 --> 01:01:20.799
Yeah, I think Cash is right though, just never quite got into it.
01:01:21.199 --> 01:01:22.079
Look, I I get it.
01:01:22.159 --> 01:01:27.359
I uh as a fan, I don't think I've ever been a mo as emotional pregame as I was Georgia.
01:01:27.519 --> 01:01:30.799
I mean, and I'm sure that would have been 10x for you guys, especially you.
01:01:30.960 --> 01:01:37.359
Um, you know, you grew up here, you it was a game you probably never thought Kentucky would get as a fan, much less that you would be the one that played in, right?
01:01:37.439 --> 01:01:40.639
Like SEC East to win the SEC East at home.
01:01:40.719 --> 01:01:47.599
Um, we ran into a buzz all, but I mean, that I think just that whole game, and it was just it was always that weird close game, too.
01:01:47.679 --> 01:01:54.399
Like they were just far enough ahead, and every time we'd make a run, they just um that was a really good, really damn good Georgia team, too.
01:01:54.480 --> 01:01:56.079
So it's not like you can really say anything about it.
01:01:56.159 --> 01:01:58.159
That was a really good damn Georgia team, right?
01:01:58.239 --> 01:01:59.119
Yeah, I know.
01:01:59.199 --> 01:02:05.359
Yeah, that was that was uh that was one, you know, with the the juice was the juice was there, but I mean that was just a really good team.
01:02:05.439 --> 01:02:12.399
Yeah, it was the same as Tennessee, like they were just top to bottom, just you know, just nobody did to our secondary what those wide receivers did.
01:02:12.480 --> 01:02:15.119
They made our secondary look like they were staying still half the game.
01:02:15.279 --> 01:02:16.399
Oh yeah, yeah.
01:02:16.879 --> 01:02:23.359
It was I mean, what what did uh Josh Allen had what two sacks and two fumble recoveries or something like that in the first half?
01:02:23.919 --> 01:02:26.960
I mean it kept us in, but boy, oh boy, were they good.
01:02:27.119 --> 01:02:29.679
And we had some turnovers too, and so it's so weird.
01:02:29.759 --> 01:02:35.519
It was uh yeah, I I I remember like I remember sitting in the stands that game and they're playing my own Kitsaki Home.
01:02:35.679 --> 01:02:40.559
People are just crying, you know, because it was like it was the realization of what you were playing for.
01:02:40.719 --> 01:02:46.319
Um, and it felt good to be there, and then you know, is what it is, but it was very emotional, yeah.
01:02:46.480 --> 01:03:10.000
Yeah, all right, it is time to close the night, shut down the night, and I do have because technically I host Paul's with me, Paul talks way way more than I will, but I do get to start it and end it tonight, begin something new, not only for Kentucky football, but for all of us here at Bleed Blue Primetime.
01:03:10.319 --> 01:03:13.119
Kentucky should beat Youngstown State, period.
01:03:13.199 --> 01:03:16.639
That's the expectation, and there is no reason to dance around it.
01:03:16.719 --> 01:03:20.399
But Saturday is about more than simply getting to one and oh.
01:03:20.480 --> 01:03:24.879
We need to see whether Kenny Minchie looks like the leader of this offense.
01:03:25.039 --> 01:03:29.439
We need to see whether the big blue wall has truly been rebuilt.
01:03:29.599 --> 01:03:34.719
We need to see whether Kentucky can contain one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football.
01:03:35.279 --> 01:03:36.960
Does Grove Street survive?
01:03:37.199 --> 01:03:38.079
No, yeah.
01:03:39.119 --> 01:03:41.279
More importantly, we need to see question.
01:03:41.519 --> 01:03:42.879
Yeah, that's that's really good.
01:03:43.039 --> 01:03:43.679
Fair question.
01:03:43.919 --> 01:03:47.279
We need to see a team that looks prepared, disciplined, and connected.
01:03:47.439 --> 01:03:50.799
The Will Stein era begins Saturday afternoon, 1 p.m.
01:03:51.039 --> 01:03:52.319
at Kroger Field.
01:03:52.399 --> 01:03:58.000
We spent an entire offseason talking about what this new Kentucky football program might become.
01:03:58.159 --> 01:03:59.839
Now we finally get to see it.
01:04:00.159 --> 01:04:06.319
David, thank you for joining us and bringing us a former player's perspective to our debut.
01:04:06.559 --> 01:04:10.719
Paul, we have officially put the first blee blue prime time in the book.
01:04:10.799 --> 01:04:20.559
And to everyone who joined us tonight on YouTube, X, thank you for being a part of the beginning for Paul, David, and everyone with Blee Blue Network.
01:04:20.639 --> 01:04:23.679
We got a cast of characters with the our network.
01:04:24.079 --> 01:04:27.279
And we'll they'll all be coming on uh down the road.
01:04:27.599 --> 01:04:31.519
Cast and and shout out to Sports View America, Kevin here.
01:04:31.599 --> 01:04:34.799
Enjoy the game, big blue nation, uh go cats.
01:04:35.039 --> 01:04:37.759
We'll see you next Wednesday for more prime time.
01:04:38.159 --> 01:04:39.439
Peace out, people.
01:04:39.679 --> 01:04:40.159
See you guys.
01:04:40.239 --> 01:04:40.559
See you guys.
00:00:50.240 --> 00:00:52.560
Bleed Blue Prime Time is here.
00:00:52.800 --> 00:00:53.520
What's up, Paul?
00:00:53.600 --> 00:00:53.920
How are you?
00:00:54.160 --> 00:00:54.560
Hello, buddy.
00:00:54.719 --> 00:00:55.280
You doing good?
00:00:55.359 --> 00:00:56.560
I am tired.
00:00:56.640 --> 00:00:57.600
It's been a week already.
00:00:57.760 --> 00:00:58.640
It's yeah, no.
00:00:58.880 --> 00:01:00.240
Halfway through the week, though.
00:01:00.480 --> 00:01:05.359
Good evening, BBN, and welcome to the very first edition of Bleed Blue Primetime.
00:01:05.680 --> 00:01:09.760
Kevin Hale and the founder of Bleed Blue Network, Paul Noviali.
00:01:10.079 --> 00:01:12.159
Every Wednesday night, this is where what was that?
00:01:12.560 --> 00:01:13.359
So what's up?
00:01:14.159 --> 00:01:18.319
Every Wednesday night, this is where we'll come together to talk Kentucky football.
00:01:18.400 --> 00:01:18.960
I have a script.
00:01:19.040 --> 00:01:20.480
Let me let me at least read it.
00:01:20.719 --> 00:01:25.680
We'll talk Kentucky football, Kentucky basketball, everything happening with Big Blue Nation.
00:01:25.840 --> 00:01:27.840
We're fans, but we're also going to be honest.
00:01:28.000 --> 00:01:30.159
When Kentucky deserves praise, we'll give it.
00:01:30.240 --> 00:01:33.359
When Kentucky deserves criticism, we won't duck it.
00:01:33.439 --> 00:01:36.240
No manufactured arguments and no sugar coating.
00:01:36.400 --> 00:01:40.000
Just informed, straightforward conversation about teams we follow.
00:01:40.240 --> 00:01:46.880
Blea Blue Primetime is presented by Blea Blue Network, an official affiliate of Sportsview America.
00:01:47.040 --> 00:01:50.400
And we're excited to have all of you joining us for this debut.
00:01:50.560 --> 00:01:53.439
And honestly, we couldn't have chosen a better time to begin.
00:01:53.680 --> 00:01:56.719
Kentucky football is entering a completely new era.
00:01:56.880 --> 00:01:59.120
There's a new coach, a new offensive system.
00:01:59.439 --> 00:02:00.719
Two and a half days away now.
00:02:00.960 --> 00:02:01.920
Two and a half, yes.
00:02:02.079 --> 00:02:04.560
A new starting quarterback and a rebuilt roster.
00:02:04.719 --> 00:02:12.639
After a disappointing 2025 season ended uh with a 41-0 loss to Lowell.
00:02:12.879 --> 00:02:13.519
It still stains.
00:02:13.759 --> 00:02:16.159
BBN is ready to turn the page.
00:02:16.400 --> 00:02:18.319
Enter the Will Stein era.
00:02:18.719 --> 00:02:24.400
It officially begins Saturday afternoon when Kentucky welcomes Youngstown State to Kroger Field.
00:02:24.560 --> 00:02:29.040
Kentucky should win this game, but Youngstown State is coming to Lexington.
00:02:29.360 --> 00:02:33.120
Isn't I should say isn't coming to Lexington merely to collect a paycheck.
00:02:33.199 --> 00:02:35.840
The Penguins are ranked seventh in the FCS.
00:02:35.920 --> 00:02:41.120
They've already have a game under their belt, and they have one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football.
00:02:41.280 --> 00:02:52.720
Tonight we're breaking down Kentucky's offense, the defensive impact players, the challenges Youngstown State presents, and exactly what the Wildcats need to accomplish before Alabama comes to town.
00:02:52.879 --> 00:03:00.399
And to help us do this, we'll be joined by someone who knows what it means to wear Kentucky across their chest, former Wildcat receiver.
00:03:00.879 --> 00:03:01.920
Win a few football games too.
00:03:02.079 --> 00:03:03.120
Yeah, David Booget.
00:03:03.280 --> 00:03:04.079
What a that season.
00:03:04.160 --> 00:03:04.639
Oh my god.
00:03:04.800 --> 00:03:06.879
This is Bleed Blue Primetime.
00:03:07.120 --> 00:03:08.319
Paul, we're finally here.
00:03:08.399 --> 00:03:09.680
Let's get this started.
00:03:09.920 --> 00:03:11.439
Uh, first of all, you see this.
00:03:11.680 --> 00:03:14.000
You just forgot to say the guest, and now he's not here.
00:03:14.319 --> 00:03:16.399
Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna tease it.
00:03:16.480 --> 00:03:16.800
Hold on.
00:03:17.199 --> 00:03:22.240
I said uh this jersey I've uh dug out of my closet.
00:03:22.399 --> 00:03:23.920
Um number three, yeah.
00:03:24.079 --> 00:03:27.759
Drew uh I saw him like like a month ago at the airport.
00:03:27.920 --> 00:03:28.480
Yeah, yeah.
00:03:28.560 --> 00:03:29.439
I got it in two.
00:03:29.759 --> 00:03:33.759
It's it's a 20-year-old jersey because I got it in 2006.
00:03:33.839 --> 00:03:35.280
So shows how old we are.
00:03:35.519 --> 00:03:38.240
It is, and I was kind of petite back in the day.
00:03:38.480 --> 00:03:43.920
Before we bring David on, let's let's talk bleed blue network, bleed blue prime time.
00:03:44.240 --> 00:03:47.759
Paul, what what made this the right time to launch bleed blue prime time?
00:03:48.000 --> 00:03:48.800
Football season.
00:03:48.879 --> 00:03:50.319
There's something to actually talk about.
00:03:50.399 --> 00:03:59.680
We we actually came out came up with this uh what like month months ago months ago, and uh I think we were like you're like, oh, let's do it next week.
00:03:59.759 --> 00:04:02.319
And I'm like, bro, there's like two weeks left in the transfer portal.
00:04:02.399 --> 00:04:03.199
This is not a good time.
00:04:03.280 --> 00:04:04.079
Let's not do that now.
00:04:04.399 --> 00:04:08.959
Um, and it was just, you know, it's it's football, still basketball news.
00:04:09.040 --> 00:04:09.839
Like it's crazy.
00:04:09.920 --> 00:04:11.280
Like you think you're on the edge of it.
00:04:11.360 --> 00:04:12.480
We talk about it on Sunday.
00:04:12.560 --> 00:04:13.759
We're like, oh, we'll talk about it.
00:04:14.160 --> 00:04:18.240
Nothing to talk about, and then bang, you know, Mitchell goes back to Mizzou.
00:04:18.480 --> 00:04:19.920
So, you know, it's a perfect time.
00:04:20.000 --> 00:04:20.879
Like, it doesn't end.
00:04:20.959 --> 00:04:23.120
I think college sports is about to get on a pendulum.
00:04:23.199 --> 00:04:23.920
I don't know if you saw this.
00:04:24.079 --> 00:04:32.560
FCS actually just uh did a rule where you can now uh do OTAs and combine practices during the spring.
00:04:32.800 --> 00:04:41.280
I think that there's a world where you're gonna see spring football games, like actual games, especially in the NIL era where you'll see kind of like a training camp.
00:04:41.439 --> 00:04:45.839
Maybe it's not like you see the starters play, but you maybe you'll see them play one or two games in the spring.
00:04:46.000 --> 00:04:47.680
I honest to God, I'm here for it.
00:04:47.839 --> 00:04:54.240
There would be nothing better than football in April in Kroger Field, even if the games don't count, it would be fun to watch.
00:04:54.319 --> 00:04:56.319
I think you get a better grasp of your team.
00:04:56.479 --> 00:04:57.759
I think we're headed there.
00:04:57.920 --> 00:05:00.240
Um, so it's just gonna be really interesting to see.
00:05:00.319 --> 00:05:09.920
And I think we're really heading into college sports specifically to where you might only have a you know, you might only have June and July where there's a lull, maybe, and then you're back at it.
00:05:10.159 --> 00:05:15.120
What does uh Sportsview America affiliation mean for Bleed Blue Network?
00:05:15.439 --> 00:05:22.959
So, you know, we just we don't have a ton of time to continuously write articles and do the website stuff.
00:05:23.039 --> 00:05:24.959
Well, we do a lot and we get good traffic.
00:05:25.120 --> 00:05:30.719
Um, but it makes it to where you know what we're doing and and stuff, it helps us with uh on the credentials side.
00:05:30.800 --> 00:05:36.159
It opens a lot of doors and partnerships for better interviews, better guests, uh, better content.
00:05:36.399 --> 00:05:38.639
And uh, you know, it also gives us credentials.
00:05:38.800 --> 00:05:40.479
So this is the first football game.
00:05:40.560 --> 00:05:44.479
My first credentialed football game will be Will Stein's first football game as a coach.
00:05:44.719 --> 00:05:46.399
Um so Lucas and I are coming.
00:05:46.719 --> 00:05:48.479
We've been to a couple of pressers already, right?
00:05:48.639 --> 00:05:50.399
Yeah, yeah, was that the one Tuesday we'll talk?
00:05:50.479 --> 00:05:52.959
We can talk about that, you know, um today.
00:05:53.120 --> 00:05:55.599
And um, you know, it's it's a great opportunity.
00:05:55.680 --> 00:06:04.479
They they need extra support for Kentucky and SEC country, and there's you know, there's some more pieces I think that will come of this, um, expanding what we do.
00:06:04.639 --> 00:06:10.319
Um, can actually we need to talk about what we talked about earlier offline because it can actually do act give access to that.
00:06:10.399 --> 00:06:13.439
I mean, it'll give us access to Pro Sports and things like that.
00:06:13.599 --> 00:06:15.039
So I'm really excited about it.
00:06:15.279 --> 00:06:17.279
Someone's already starting to die.
00:06:17.519 --> 00:06:18.800
It's no, it's real, man.
00:06:18.879 --> 00:06:19.839
It's got gray in it.
00:06:19.920 --> 00:06:20.959
Get closer, you find out.
00:06:21.279 --> 00:06:22.719
Imagine it being gray, T Bay.
00:06:24.079 --> 00:06:27.599
All right, so this is before our break we bring on our guests.
00:06:27.759 --> 00:06:30.159
I have to um give this play the highlight tape.
00:06:30.399 --> 00:06:31.839
Play the highlight tape.
00:06:32.000 --> 00:06:33.759
Um, 2018, man.
00:06:33.920 --> 00:06:37.920
What a season, and this dude was very much part of it.
00:06:38.159 --> 00:06:42.959
Menacing, frightening, fine help sometimes.
00:06:43.360 --> 00:06:52.560
I skipped myself, myself, we can't.
00:06:53.039 --> 00:06:54.399
Turned them inside out on that move.
00:06:56.719 --> 00:06:58.959
That's Craig and didn't.
00:07:24.399 --> 00:07:25.519
I absolutely love this.
00:07:27.199 --> 00:07:36.479
I scare myself, myself, minister, fighting, finding out sometimes.
00:07:36.959 --> 00:07:40.159
I scared myself, myself.
00:07:40.800 --> 00:07:44.000
Hey, hospital pen I'm on the fans to watch.
00:07:44.159 --> 00:07:46.719
Hunted grand and make your best friends turn the pops.
00:07:46.959 --> 00:07:49.199
I heat up bringing my name up a notch.
00:07:49.759 --> 00:07:50.399
Remember that catch.
00:07:52.639 --> 00:07:53.680
There it is, man.
00:07:53.839 --> 00:07:54.719
Uh, good stuff.
00:07:54.879 --> 00:07:55.680
Stop sharing.
00:07:55.759 --> 00:07:57.599
All right, of course, you know, Paul.
00:07:57.680 --> 00:08:03.599
You know, I will hope it's in our budget to br have a three-man um uh or a producer.
00:08:03.839 --> 00:08:06.399
A producer, uh what's up, David?
00:08:06.800 --> 00:08:07.439
What's going on?
00:08:07.519 --> 00:08:11.839
I tried to do the Chris Collins or slide in once uh the theater.
00:08:12.079 --> 00:08:15.039
But yeah, that's that's the only reason I came on was to show my highlight tape.
00:08:15.120 --> 00:08:16.159
So I'm probably gonna yeah.
00:08:17.439 --> 00:08:20.800
I've agreed I've agreed to play it four more times throughout this hour.
00:08:20.959 --> 00:08:27.519
So didn't you you had didn't you you had the big catch to the what I believe the year before against Florida, right?
00:08:27.680 --> 00:08:30.479
Like on wasn't it like a fourth, third or fourth down?
00:08:30.639 --> 00:08:35.920
I know we didn't win, but well, the the year before that may have been that may have been Charles Walker.
00:08:36.000 --> 00:08:38.960
I think I had a total of one catch the year before.
00:08:39.039 --> 00:08:48.159
Uh and then and then I kind of started playing my senior year at receiver, but I was mostly special teams and yeah, I think where I was thinking about I don't remember.
00:08:48.240 --> 00:08:51.200
I remember like your like your first catch, and it was kind of like, oh, who's that guy?
00:08:51.279 --> 00:08:52.879
Because you got you had sticky fingers, man.
00:08:52.960 --> 00:08:54.320
I swear it's like you caught everything.
00:08:54.480 --> 00:08:54.960
Yeah, yeah.
00:08:55.120 --> 00:09:01.680
Well, I didn't uh you know really excel in the height department, so you know I had to find some way to separate myself.
00:09:01.840 --> 00:09:02.080
Sure.
00:09:02.159 --> 00:09:04.639
But did you have any collegiate drops?
00:09:04.879 --> 00:09:06.000
I I have one.
00:09:06.159 --> 00:09:07.759
I still think about it nightly.
00:09:07.840 --> 00:09:13.520
It was against against Louisville, but it was it was uh but we won that game 52 to 10, I believe.
00:09:13.600 --> 00:09:16.080
So it was at least the game that didn't matter that much, right?
00:09:16.160 --> 00:09:17.520
Like right, yeah, yeah.
00:09:17.600 --> 00:09:24.160
So that and I think there was like 30 people in the stands that game because the game was long over, but you still think about those things.
00:09:24.240 --> 00:09:27.120
You think about the the drops are like odd, you know, the missing.
00:09:27.280 --> 00:09:27.520
It's funny.
00:09:27.600 --> 00:09:28.800
I didn't I didn't see drop.
00:09:29.040 --> 00:09:31.200
I didn't see the drop in your highlight reel.
00:09:31.759 --> 00:09:32.480
Yeah, yeah.
00:09:32.720 --> 00:09:40.320
Funny thing about that high right highlight reel, this was you know, 2018, this is for NIL and I guess big production for athlete highlights and TikTok.
00:09:40.480 --> 00:09:48.000
I was some guy just messaged me on Twitter and was like, I'll pay you 60 bucks if I can make a highlight tape for you and put it on YouTube.
00:09:48.320 --> 00:09:48.560
Wow.
00:09:48.720 --> 00:09:54.000
So I can't remember his name, but I was like, sure, I'll do it.
00:09:54.080 --> 00:09:54.960
I'll I'll pay you.
00:09:55.200 --> 00:09:58.160
I paid him, yeah, 60 bucks to to make that video.
00:09:58.320 --> 00:10:00.400
And I just thought it I didn't think it was a real thing.
00:10:00.480 --> 00:10:04.000
Or he'd come through and sure enough, came through and gave me a highlight tape.
00:10:04.080 --> 00:10:05.920
I I watch every night before I go to bed.
00:10:06.080 --> 00:10:08.400
So and with your baby, right?
00:10:08.560 --> 00:10:09.040
Right, yeah.
00:10:09.120 --> 00:10:10.640
I make sure he watches it too.
00:10:11.040 --> 00:10:15.200
What just imagine every night before we're going, come on, babes, time to watch my highlight row.
00:10:17.680 --> 00:10:20.800
Honey, before before, can we watch it before?
00:10:20.960 --> 00:10:21.440
Or never.
00:10:21.840 --> 00:10:23.840
What did what you gotta get in the mood, guys?
00:10:24.000 --> 00:10:24.320
Yeah.
00:10:24.720 --> 00:10:28.240
What did um yeah, you came on as a walk-on, correct?
00:10:28.640 --> 00:10:31.040
So what was that feeling like earning that scholarship?
00:10:31.200 --> 00:10:32.000
What did it mean to you?
00:10:32.480 --> 00:10:33.520
I mean, it was the best.
00:10:33.600 --> 00:10:48.960
00:10:49.600 --> 00:10:51.759
But you know, it you know, that that's what I dreamed about.
00:10:51.920 --> 00:10:58.240
Had a couple, you know, opportunities to play elsewhere, but man, I grew up having season tickets to UK games, just huge fan.
00:10:58.320 --> 00:11:00.960
Like I was like, you you can't pass up this opportunity.
00:11:01.040 --> 00:11:03.920
So uh getting a scholarship, it took a lot of hard work though.
00:11:04.000 --> 00:11:14.480
I mean, I was I was a scout team dummy there for a couple years, so uh you know, there'd be a few walks backs to the dorm where I'm like, I don't know if this football thing, you know, get tackled by Bud Depree and as a scout team member.
00:11:14.560 --> 00:11:20.879
I'm just like, you know, I don't I don't know if I'm gonna cut it in the FCC, but you know, stuck with it and uh you know it paid off.
00:11:21.200 --> 00:11:31.680
Not only did you stick with it, you you you got to be as a you know Kentucky fan, breaking probably the biggest monkey that we've had on our backs as a football program and scoring.
00:11:31.759 --> 00:11:34.400
I mean, but you put that you put that guy on skates.
00:11:34.640 --> 00:11:35.280
What was that like?
00:11:35.360 --> 00:11:38.320
I know like I I've I've talked to Cash a lot about this, you know.
00:11:38.400 --> 00:11:45.360
I've I've I've known Cash for a couple years now, but uh what was that like for you in that like not just like scoring, but like going through that?
00:11:45.520 --> 00:11:52.800
Was it was it different from a uh because there was a personal aspect on top of being a fan, like you had lived this, you knew what it meant.
00:11:52.879 --> 00:11:56.720
Like, did that add more pressure and then everything was just like heightened around the game?
00:11:56.960 --> 00:11:57.520
Definitely.
00:11:57.600 --> 00:12:06.480
And I think it, you know, especially like with cash, you know, we we talked about it with the team, like like afterwards, especially we were like, guys, this is a huge deal.
00:12:06.640 --> 00:12:13.759
Like we we you know, we grew up with uh, you know, constantly just couldn't couldn't quite beat Florida, came so close, especially the years prior.
00:12:14.000 --> 00:12:17.759
And we you know, we would mean Cash were like, this is crazy.
00:12:17.840 --> 00:12:18.480
We we did it.
00:12:18.640 --> 00:12:20.240
We talked about the game, like we we did.
00:12:20.400 --> 00:12:23.920
A lot of those guys, you know, from the swamp which no one thought would happen.
00:12:24.320 --> 00:12:25.280
Right, right, yeah.
00:12:25.440 --> 00:12:28.560
No, that that plane ride back was uh was something else.
00:12:28.640 --> 00:12:31.440
That was that was a good time, but it it just meant so much.
00:12:31.600 --> 00:12:41.600
When I scored there, it was so early in the game, you know, I was obviously excited, but you know, I'm I was like, we we got a whole rest of the game to play, and and I kind of blacked out a little bit.
00:12:41.680 --> 00:12:43.840
I was like, can I really just score in the swamp?
00:12:44.240 --> 00:12:47.520
You know, and then uh and then you know got the rest of the game to play to finish it off.
00:12:47.600 --> 00:12:55.520
But you know, uh guys on the team really made a difference, like uh Benny Snell and you know Lynn Bowden, just just you know, guys like that were made a huge difference.
00:12:55.600 --> 00:12:58.640
Josh Allen, always uh he's basic.
00:12:58.720 --> 00:12:59.200
He's all right.
00:12:59.280 --> 00:13:00.640
He is he's pretty good, pretty good.
00:13:01.040 --> 00:13:02.080
Okay player, I guess.
00:13:02.400 --> 00:13:07.920
What what uh what did that 2018 team possess that separated it from other teams too?
00:13:08.240 --> 00:13:17.200
I I think just the camaraderie and and belief, like that was kind of like the real like first wave of stoops guys that came in, you know.
00:13:17.280 --> 00:13:19.680
That was like that the 2014 year.
00:13:19.759 --> 00:13:24.560
So I remember thinking Drew Barker was in that class, yeah, Mike Edwards and all those guys.
00:13:24.720 --> 00:13:32.560
So it was just, you know, we kind of been through it together and the core group, everyone just stuck together, and you know, we were just like, we want to do something special.
00:13:32.640 --> 00:13:34.080
We came here to do something special.
00:13:34.240 --> 00:13:44.000
These bowls have been been great, and I know the bowls are great, especially you know, me growing up, like Kentucky fan, like you know, when Andre Woodson went seven to five and you know, be Clemson in Florida State.
00:13:44.080 --> 00:13:45.440
I was at those games, like that was awesome.
00:13:45.759 --> 00:13:59.840
Same and so yeah, and then the like having a 10-win season, like you know, Coach Soup would ask me and like Kentucky guys to talk to the team and be like, God, you have no idea how big of a deal this this is for this state, this community, this program.
00:14:00.000 --> 00:14:03.759
Like, you know, you you guys are gonna go down a history with uh a season like this.
00:14:03.840 --> 00:14:07.600
So I think just yeah, the brotherhood of the the team was just uh awesome.
00:14:07.759 --> 00:14:08.879
We just mashed so well.
00:14:09.680 --> 00:14:12.080
Let's uh let's get at it, man.
00:14:12.240 --> 00:14:20.400
Uh, you being an offensive guy, uh let's uh use that player perspective and turn our attention to this off Kentucky offense.
00:14:20.480 --> 00:14:22.560
Uh start out of the gate, Kenny Minchie.
00:14:22.720 --> 00:14:27.680
Um Minchie begins the season as QB1 after transferring from Notre Dame.
00:14:27.759 --> 00:14:37.360
He has completed 23 of 29 collegiate attempts for 212 yards, but Saturday represents his first meaningful opportunity to lead a team.
00:14:37.600 --> 00:14:43.920
Coach Stein cited Minchy's preparation, command, decision making, and leadership when naming him the starter.
00:14:44.080 --> 00:14:46.560
David, what do you want to see?
00:14:46.800 --> 00:14:52.080
Um, you know, the ball coming out on time, accurate throws, routine completions.
00:14:52.400 --> 00:14:57.759
What what do you need to see from Minchie that will uh wet your whistle?
00:14:58.160 --> 00:15:00.400
I just want to see him just command the offense.
00:15:00.480 --> 00:15:06.480
I, you know, he he went to Notre Dame, didn't have a you know crazy amount of snaps there, but you know, he he can play.
00:15:06.560 --> 00:15:07.600
He's he's a good player.
00:15:07.680 --> 00:15:17.200
And the practice that I watch, like he was slinging around and you know, they got these GoPros on their helmets, and he's just you know it seemed like he was making every right decision, putting the ball where it needs to be, not forcing it.
00:15:17.360 --> 00:15:26.400
So I think he uh you know, as long as he has the right mentality and doesn't try to force things and do too much and kind of get the flow of the offense, I think he'll I think he'll be just fine.
00:15:26.640 --> 00:15:32.000
Paul, does Minchine need huge numbers or does does he simply need to just look and control?
00:15:32.240 --> 00:15:33.280
Honestly, yeah.
00:15:33.360 --> 00:15:40.960
I mean, look, this is one of those games where you, you know, you throw for 225 or 200 and rush for 250, you know.
00:15:41.120 --> 00:15:45.360
Just I like you you almost want this to be a boring ass kicking.
00:15:45.520 --> 00:15:47.520
Um, I I'm guarantee you Will Stein.
00:15:47.600 --> 00:15:52.560
If Will Stein, if you asked him privately, I guarantee you, and and and David probably could back this up playing.
00:15:52.720 --> 00:15:56.879
You would love to have no nothing like you don't want to show m that much motion.
00:15:56.960 --> 00:15:59.520
You want to line up in basic sets and just beat them.
00:15:59.600 --> 00:16:01.440
Like you don't want to have to show a whole lot in this game.
00:16:01.520 --> 00:16:04.320
Um that that was kind of Alabama the next week.
00:16:04.400 --> 00:16:12.480
And and look, like yeah, I don't think he'd he just uh if if our wide receivers can't beat their secondary and get open, we have bigger problems.
00:16:12.640 --> 00:16:14.720
Um, I like our wide receiver room.
00:16:14.800 --> 00:16:18.720
It'd be you know, obviously we have a wide receiver here, so be curious to hear what his thoughts are.
00:16:18.800 --> 00:16:22.960
Uh, I think it's I you know, I you keep hearing this, it's talented, but it's unproven.
00:16:23.120 --> 00:16:26.879
Uh um, I think that, yeah, but I mean, I don't know.
00:16:26.960 --> 00:16:39.040
The last time we've had a bunch of dudes that are 6'3, 6'4 have experience, SEC experience, big game experience, you know, and then some of the, you know, like Darby or Prince Gene, you know, those types of guys that are young, but just raw, right?
00:16:39.120 --> 00:16:42.080
Like, when's the last time we've had multiples of those types of dudes?
00:16:42.160 --> 00:16:43.840
And I don't think we have in a long time.
00:16:44.000 --> 00:16:46.080
So um, you know, take care of the football.
00:16:46.160 --> 00:16:51.200
No, if you get if it's a turnover, something nonsense where it like, you know, bounces off a helmet or something, right?
00:16:51.280 --> 00:16:52.960
Like, no bad throws kind of thing.
00:16:53.120 --> 00:16:56.720
Um, and then you know, just just look like you know what you're doing.
00:16:56.960 --> 00:16:58.720
I've got questions here.
00:16:58.960 --> 00:17:04.079
Uh, my next question was about should we how much should we reveal before Alabama?
00:17:04.240 --> 00:17:04.799
You said that.
00:17:04.960 --> 00:17:07.440
I said, what should what would what would concern us more?
00:17:07.599 --> 00:17:08.960
Miss throws or poor decisions?
00:17:09.119 --> 00:17:10.240
You said that too.
00:17:10.400 --> 00:17:11.039
We keep going.
00:17:11.200 --> 00:17:19.759
David, as a receiver, how quickly how quickly can you tell whether your quarterback is comfortable and seeing the field properly?
00:17:20.240 --> 00:17:28.000
Usually after that first drive or two, you know, sometimes it would it, you know, it takes a little bit with the uh your first game in a new stadium.
00:17:28.160 --> 00:17:32.799
I think uh like Terry, my senior year, had a had a rough first half, first game really.
00:17:32.960 --> 00:17:37.039
And it, you know, he he settled in and made the right decisions and turned the ball over.
00:17:37.519 --> 00:17:45.279
Let's be honest, Stoops' teams in the first quarter, first half of the first games of the year never came out all guns blazing, except for Will Levis.
00:17:45.600 --> 00:17:51.360
That was literally the only time I think I've ever seen us really come out in the first game of the year and just lay an ass beating down.
00:17:51.519 --> 00:17:51.759
Right.
00:17:51.920 --> 00:17:52.080
Yeah.
00:17:52.240 --> 00:17:53.440
I think Will Stein, too.
00:17:53.519 --> 00:17:56.720
I mean, just he's gonna, you know, have the correct game plan, I think.
00:17:56.799 --> 00:18:02.000
You know, he might do some dinks and dunks early on, really like get into the flow of things early.
00:18:02.080 --> 00:18:08.160
So as a four cornerback himself, I think he understands and yeah, I just I just trust the game plan he'll put together.
00:18:08.240 --> 00:18:16.160
And like you said, I I hope they don't have to do too much uh, you know, misdirections and you know, really go into their bags to not give up anything for Alabama.
00:18:16.319 --> 00:18:22.319
So yeah, I would be very surprised if you'd see play action for a deep shot on the first play of the game.
00:18:22.480 --> 00:18:30.799
I you're probably gonna see an off-eye handoff or like David said, a quick out, you know, like a like a bubble screen, get that ball out of his hand, you know.
00:18:31.120 --> 00:18:33.120
Something like what you just said now.
00:18:33.279 --> 00:18:35.840
Listen to my next question, to be question.
00:18:35.920 --> 00:18:38.880
Does Kentucky need to push the ball vertically immediately?
00:18:39.120 --> 00:18:40.240
No, I wouldn't.
00:18:40.799 --> 00:18:46.480
I I listen, I think you take a shot or two, but at the same time, I don't again, you know, when is it in the game?
00:18:46.640 --> 00:18:51.360
If you're gonna do it, do it real early, just to kind of like, you know, I uh you don't want to show a lot.
00:18:51.519 --> 00:18:54.880
I don't I I I mean like a vertical hoop shot is a vertical shot, right?
00:18:55.039 --> 00:18:58.080
But I mean, you do you want to see the guy's first move off the line?
00:18:58.160 --> 00:18:59.840
Like, let some of this be a mystery.
00:19:00.000 --> 00:19:03.440
Um, I mean, if you just go straight vertical and beats them over the top, then whatever.
00:19:03.519 --> 00:19:05.440
Like, hey, buddy, you're just slow, you know.
00:19:05.680 --> 00:19:06.960
Let me pause real quick.
00:19:07.120 --> 00:19:12.720
It looks like uh StreamYard is not working with X tonight.
00:19:12.799 --> 00:19:17.600
So if you're watching it on X uh and you're making comments, we're not seeing them.
00:19:17.759 --> 00:19:25.519
So if you want to comment, get involved with some questions, comments, whatever, hit the YouTube link and uh jump in.
00:19:25.840 --> 00:19:28.880
I can I can check, I can pull up the comments on on X.
00:19:28.960 --> 00:19:30.799
I can have X open on the other side.
00:19:30.960 --> 00:19:35.519
Someone uh Otis asked if uh Alex Bafari uh will play.
00:19:35.840 --> 00:19:37.200
You're asking or tell it.
00:19:37.680 --> 00:19:38.559
That's what was the question.
00:19:38.720 --> 00:19:39.519
I have no idea, man.
00:19:40.400 --> 00:19:40.720
I don't know.
00:19:40.880 --> 00:19:42.000
It was the question on X.
00:19:42.240 --> 00:19:43.039
So there you go.
00:19:43.440 --> 00:19:44.640
All right, one question.
00:19:44.799 --> 00:19:46.400
Uh all right, that's Minchy.
00:19:46.480 --> 00:19:48.160
Let's go to the running backs.
00:19:48.240 --> 00:19:50.480
Uh it's CJ Baxter's opportunity.
00:19:50.640 --> 00:19:54.160
Um, uh Javante Barnes, he's unavailable for the opener.
00:19:54.400 --> 00:19:54.960
Is that correct?
00:19:55.120 --> 00:19:55.360
Yes.
00:19:55.600 --> 00:19:55.840
Okay.
00:19:56.000 --> 00:19:56.720
Yep, he is out.
00:19:56.799 --> 00:19:57.680
Uh he's out.
00:19:57.840 --> 00:20:05.200
Baxter has 855 career rushing yards, 36 receptions, uh, over a thousand yards of scrimmage.
00:20:05.360 --> 00:20:08.799
Injuries has have disrupted his previous seasons.
00:20:09.039 --> 00:20:10.960
Um straight out of the gate.
00:20:11.039 --> 00:20:15.519
Does Baxter look fully recovered and explosive?
00:20:15.680 --> 00:20:18.240
That's uh gotta be a talking point, right?
00:20:18.400 --> 00:20:18.880
Somebody.
00:20:19.120 --> 00:20:27.360
Yeah, I mean, if you if you listen to the coaches, uh Will uh talked about it yesterday, said he's had a really good two weeks of practice, looks good.
00:20:27.519 --> 00:20:30.559
Um, Joe Sloan was like, he's a big, he's a big boy.
00:20:30.799 --> 00:20:32.799
You get next to him, he's like, he's a big boy.
00:20:32.880 --> 00:20:35.920
Like you don't realize how big of a guy he is as a running back.
00:20:36.080 --> 00:20:39.039
Um, yeah, yeah, you know that the injury, I get it.
00:20:39.120 --> 00:20:48.160
Um, everybody wants to talk about it, but I mean the guy was like a like a what a top five player at high school period in the country, not at position, like top five.
00:20:48.240 --> 00:20:49.440
Uh five-star kid.
00:20:49.519 --> 00:20:56.080
Had I mean, a lot of people don't remember he played against Washington in the college football playoff two years ago, had a really good game.
00:20:56.400 --> 00:20:58.480
Uh as a I think he was a true freshman.
00:20:58.720 --> 00:20:59.759
He's got the dog in him.
00:20:59.920 --> 00:21:03.039
He's got he's I have I have not seen him practice.
00:21:03.200 --> 00:21:05.600
There's not a lot of people that have seen this team really practice.
00:21:05.759 --> 00:21:06.640
Like I've found it.
00:21:06.720 --> 00:21:07.360
Like stoops.
00:21:07.440 --> 00:21:08.799
I know you got the C a lot.
00:21:08.960 --> 00:21:11.039
Will Stein's not the same, which I don't care.
00:21:11.120 --> 00:21:13.600
I don't think that that's good or bad one way or the other.
00:21:13.680 --> 00:21:17.759
I kind of like the mystery, um, you know, especially going to your first year.
00:21:17.920 --> 00:21:20.160
Uh, but he's not the home run guy.
00:21:20.319 --> 00:21:25.519
That's where you know Barnes really could have done that because your Barnes is kind of I we we we talked about it, right?
00:21:25.600 --> 00:21:26.640
Like on Sunday.
00:21:26.799 --> 00:21:33.759
It's kind of like your um your Benny Snell or yeah, your Benny Snell, AJ Rose kind of one-two hit, right?
00:21:33.840 --> 00:21:38.240
Like Benny Snell can beat the shit out of you, and then AJ Rose comes in, you give him a seam, and he's gone.
00:21:38.960 --> 00:21:44.080
So Stein said the depth of the room for the for the start of the season is okay.
00:21:44.240 --> 00:21:46.240
I don't love that the head coach said that.
00:21:46.319 --> 00:21:49.920
Um, but I think we're one injury away from having to play.
00:21:50.080 --> 00:21:52.000
Um, you know, uh, what's his face?
00:21:52.080 --> 00:21:53.600
He converted from like a cornerback.
00:21:53.759 --> 00:21:58.799
Um, now he's got a ton of talent, but it just shows you the room's not necessarily as deep as we'd hope.
00:21:58.960 --> 00:21:59.200
Right.
00:21:59.519 --> 00:22:01.519
Um, David, anything to add to that?
00:22:01.759 --> 00:22:06.160
Yeah, and I think that's across the board too with all players, not just the running backs.
00:22:06.480 --> 00:22:12.080
It's uh, you know, the one deep, you know, to have a lot of those guys, especially the linemen, have a lot of playing history.
00:22:12.160 --> 00:22:15.200
But you know, if guys go down here and there, that's where I kind of get worried.
00:22:15.279 --> 00:22:22.400
And you know, I guess everywhere, you know, people are gonna have injuries, but I just, you know, got a lot of unproven guys behind them, guys that haven't played a lot.
00:22:22.480 --> 00:22:25.600
So, you know, I'm praying we have a have a healthy year, I guess.
00:22:26.160 --> 00:22:30.960
For people who've seen the you've seen the wide receivers play in like in in what you have seen.
00:22:31.120 --> 00:22:32.080
What's kind of your takeaway?
00:22:32.400 --> 00:22:38.000
That that seems like you know, we kind of know if Barnes is healthy, if Baxter's healthy, and we know what we're getting there.
00:22:38.080 --> 00:22:38.960
The O line's really good.
00:22:39.279 --> 00:22:39.440
Good.
00:22:39.519 --> 00:22:44.720
The D-line, probably the best unit on the on the team, which I don't think you've been able to say Kentucky a lot.
00:22:44.799 --> 00:22:47.039
What do you think about the wide receiver unit?
00:22:47.120 --> 00:22:50.240
I you've probably not seen Nick Anderson a whole lot, which is fine.
00:22:50.400 --> 00:22:54.880
Um, but you know, the guys you have seen, kind of tell me what your thoughts on them are.
00:22:55.200 --> 00:22:57.920
DJ Miller, I think he's I think he's a dude.
00:22:58.000 --> 00:23:02.160
You know, he's just he's got hands, he's got speed, he's got great route running ability.
00:23:02.400 --> 00:23:03.840
He's got SEC size.
00:23:04.160 --> 00:23:05.200
SEC size.
00:23:05.600 --> 00:23:08.960
Like, you know, I think I think we can we can feed him the ball.
00:23:09.039 --> 00:23:19.039
It's just other guys opening it up for him, you know, whether that's Willie Rodriguez, um, you know, a tight end doing that, and who knows, uh, you know, maybe Nick Anderson comes onto the scene.
00:23:19.120 --> 00:23:25.120
But you know, I I think DJ Miller is gonna be our our one-one guy uh going into this team.
00:23:25.440 --> 00:23:26.400
I'm looking forward to him.
00:23:26.720 --> 00:23:34.400
Before before we before we get deep in with the receivers and tight end, I got one last question what when it comes, David, when it comes to the running game.
00:23:34.559 --> 00:23:42.640
Uh, how much does that change uh when when the running game is working, how much does that change what a receiver sees from the secondary?
00:23:42.880 --> 00:23:54.960
I think it opens up just shots and opportunities every time we'd come back on the uh, you know, from an offensive drive, you know, if we scored and we were running the ball a lot, which you know, for those young guys out there in 2018, we did a lot.
00:23:55.120 --> 00:23:56.240
We did a lot of running the ball.
00:23:56.319 --> 00:23:58.400
We had Benny Snell and the big blue wall.
00:23:58.559 --> 00:24:04.000
So, you know, you see those DBs, those safeties just, you know, start to inch up a little bit, a little bit more.
00:24:04.160 --> 00:24:10.720
And then that's when you can kind of take your shots, you know, take those out and ups and you know, kind of open up the pass game a little bit.
00:24:10.799 --> 00:24:17.440
And, you know, that was especially our our kind of formula uh when I played, you know, hammer the ball, hammer the mouth ball, hammer the ball.
00:24:17.519 --> 00:24:25.840
You know, I think I had like five catches on fake blocks and you know, and then running up and you know getting a big catch out of it just because we set up the run game.
00:24:26.160 --> 00:24:36.799
Moving to the receivers and tight end impact players, we touched on Nick and Nick Anderson, proven size, vertical potential, Kenny Darby, explosive freshman who can contribute immediately.
00:24:37.039 --> 00:24:48.799
DJ Miller, young receiver with SEC size, Xavier Daisy, another large target, uh for Minchie, Willie Rodriguez, veteran tight end, and preseason all SEC selection, right?
00:24:48.880 --> 00:24:49.279
Right, yeah.
00:24:49.519 --> 00:24:50.160
Second team, I think.
00:24:50.240 --> 00:24:50.640
Third team.
00:24:51.200 --> 00:24:55.840
Yeah, uh Mikhail uh Skinner, athletic option who can create mismatches.
00:24:56.000 --> 00:25:00.799
Um, who becomes Minchie's security blanket from the receiving core, Dave?
00:25:01.039 --> 00:25:04.480
Like I said, DJ Muller and yeah, I forgot to bring out Kenny Darby.
00:25:04.720 --> 00:25:12.080
That'll be interesting to see because from all accounts, from what I've heard, like he's a stud at practice, quick, twitchy, does all the right things.
00:25:12.240 --> 00:25:14.240
It's just just a freshman, you know.
00:25:14.319 --> 00:25:16.160
So will the lights be too big?
00:25:16.240 --> 00:25:19.039
And you know, some guys you can you can tell by talking to them.
00:25:19.120 --> 00:25:22.160
You know, I wish I could always say this about my fantasy football teams.
00:25:22.240 --> 00:25:24.080
I wish I could talk to the guy and know who the guy is.
00:25:24.400 --> 00:25:27.120
He's gonna be, you know, what mentality he has.
00:25:27.279 --> 00:25:33.840
Because, you know, some freshmen just just come in there like I'm the best and I'm gonna play the best, and I don't care how many fans are in the stadium.
00:25:33.920 --> 00:25:35.039
So Lynn Bowden.
00:25:35.440 --> 00:25:35.840
Exactly.
00:25:36.000 --> 00:25:37.120
So Lynn Bowden, yeah.
00:25:37.279 --> 00:25:41.519
Freshman, you don't know what you don't know, and you just you just go out there and ball because you always have.
00:25:41.920 --> 00:25:44.000
I think it's gonna be Willie Rodriguez.
00:25:44.160 --> 00:25:47.519
Um he's got all the intangibles of everything.
00:25:47.600 --> 00:26:03.759
00:26:04.319 --> 00:26:07.680
But you know, I don't think you want it to be a running back specifically.
00:26:07.840 --> 00:26:17.840
I think it needs to be somebody like a Willie Rod because if this guy comes in with eight, like, you know, 800, 900 yards, nine, 12 touchdowns, you have a monster.
00:26:18.319 --> 00:26:27.279
Um, and like, you know, on on David's team, you know, you had CJ Conrad, which, you know, that really he having that kind of a receiving tight end, and they're different.
00:26:27.360 --> 00:26:28.000
I know that.
00:26:28.080 --> 00:26:35.519
Um, but Willie's an NFL player um in the right system, and we've seen what really good tight ends can do in a Will Stein offense.
00:26:35.600 --> 00:26:38.640
And I think he's the end ends up being like a security blanket.
00:26:38.799 --> 00:26:44.240
Um, I think it's interesting that David says DJ Miller when everyone's basically saying it Nick Anderson.
00:26:44.480 --> 00:26:44.960
I agree.
00:26:45.120 --> 00:26:47.840
I think I think that they can have two number ones.
00:26:48.000 --> 00:26:52.799
I think it's important for Nick Anderson, at least early, to be the one guy.
00:26:52.880 --> 00:27:00.400
Well, you have DJ Miller, who is a true sophomore, obviously coming in and and giving you the but he has he's got the intangibles, right?
00:27:00.480 --> 00:27:04.960
Like it took long enough to play him last year, and then he just caught basically everything he threw at him.
00:27:05.279 --> 00:27:06.480
Um, so I agree.
00:27:06.559 --> 00:27:09.200
I he has a number one, he has number one potential.
00:27:09.360 --> 00:27:16.319
But like the thing is that really excites me about this unit is you got him, and then you've got um what's his face?
00:27:16.480 --> 00:27:26.720
Uh Jacaden Ferguson Ferguson, the transfer from Arkansas guy with another guy, as he's experienced, he's played in some big games, he's won some big games, lights won't be too bright, six two.
00:27:27.039 --> 00:27:29.840
I mean, you got a lot of these guys, six two, six three, six, four.
00:27:30.080 --> 00:27:35.759
Like, and then you throw Willie in there, he's just an absolute I mean, he's basically cash Daniel at a tight end spot.
00:27:35.840 --> 00:27:37.200
He's just a psychotic.
00:27:37.440 --> 00:27:44.480
Um and uh and you know, you I think I think this offense has all the makings to be very, very good.
00:27:44.640 --> 00:27:45.840
It's just will it, right?
00:27:45.920 --> 00:27:46.799
Like, will it mesh?
00:27:46.960 --> 00:27:47.360
Will it gel?
00:27:47.600 --> 00:27:53.120
And I think that's the thing you want to especially see in the first like no, like you don't want to see drops, catch your balls, get open.
00:27:53.200 --> 00:27:57.120
And if they're getting open easy and we're moving the ball, I and you can tell, right?
00:27:57.360 --> 00:27:58.080
Effortless.
00:27:58.240 --> 00:28:04.240
We had some gate, we've had games in the past where we've played teams like this, and it it was comfortable, but it wasn't effortless, right?
00:28:04.319 --> 00:28:07.279
It was just uh that was ugly, but we still won by 25.
00:28:07.440 --> 00:28:12.240
Um, you want one of those games where it's like we're an SEC opponent playing an FCS team and it looks like it.
00:28:12.319 --> 00:28:14.559
And I think you want to see that from the offensive side of the ball.
00:28:15.039 --> 00:28:15.840
For you, David.
00:28:15.920 --> 00:28:23.360
Uh who in this receiving room has caught your attention in and what separates a dependable receiver from someone who merely has talent?
00:28:23.600 --> 00:28:28.880
Yeah, well, well, first of all, Nick Anderson, yeah, very, very good, has uh you know, plenty of experience.
00:28:28.960 --> 00:28:35.039
It's just you know, getting to those ball, getting the ball to the outside receiver sometimes is just you know not a guaranteed thing.
00:28:35.120 --> 00:28:40.559
So I you know, I've just seen DJ Miller work and see him practice, and it just seems like every time he's mauling out.
00:28:40.640 --> 00:28:43.759
And uh Willie Rodriguez, you know, good good safety blanket.
00:28:43.840 --> 00:28:45.920
So let uh I just want to touch place on that.
00:28:46.000 --> 00:28:48.240
Yes, Willie Rodriguez, great safety blanket.
00:28:48.400 --> 00:28:49.920
But uh Kevin, repeat your question.
00:28:50.000 --> 00:28:50.559
What did you say?
00:28:50.720 --> 00:28:51.920
No, I don't know.
00:28:54.160 --> 00:28:55.200
You had to get that.
00:28:55.360 --> 00:28:59.440
I thought Paul had great points and like things I want to say.
00:28:59.519 --> 00:29:00.640
I just want to be like, yes, yes.
00:29:00.720 --> 00:29:01.920
I didn't forget about Nick Anderson.
00:29:03.440 --> 00:29:08.640
Well, and when I say that, when I see the Nick Anderson thing, I think it's more of like the spacing and the vertical threat, right?
00:29:08.720 --> 00:29:11.759
Like the downfield 6'4, good size, can go get the ball.
00:29:12.000 --> 00:29:15.360
That opens up, and sometimes guys like that don't have eight catches, right?
00:29:15.440 --> 00:29:24.080
You got a DJ Miller might get eight catches for you know 90 yards, but Nick Anderson has two catches for 100, but those two opened up the other 15 catches, you know.
00:29:24.160 --> 00:29:32.880
So that's why I think Nick's Nick's the important, the most important guy in the receiving room for giving the all the other guys space to be able to operate.
00:29:33.279 --> 00:29:42.319
So, David, the question was in the receiving room, who has caught your attention and what separates a dependable receiver from someone who merely has talent?
00:29:42.559 --> 00:29:43.759
Oh, no, no secret.
00:29:43.840 --> 00:29:50.400
DJ Miller caught my attention, but just being dependable is someone that the coaches trust and the quarterback trusts.
00:29:50.640 --> 00:30:03.360
You know, it's hard to see what goes on, you know, in the summer in the reps, but like, you know, you could you knew the guys that were getting the ball by the amount of extra work that are being done with the the quarterbacks and just constantly throwing with them and just knowing like, hey, that's my go-to guy.
00:30:03.440 --> 00:30:06.720
And it could be Willie Rodriguez just being like, hey, it's it's third down and six.
00:30:06.880 --> 00:30:12.480
Willy Rodriguez, he's gotten open a thousand times of practice, and I'm probably gonna go to so you know.
00:30:12.640 --> 00:30:18.480
I think that's yeah, with it's kind of we'll see what what what Kenny, you know, be evident, I think, uh, in the first game.
00:30:18.559 --> 00:30:24.799
But I think um, I wouldn't be surprised if Willie Rodriguez is kind of that that go-to kind of like dependable option.
00:30:25.120 --> 00:30:29.519
That first game should be a game where he has eight, nine catches, a hundred yards, a touchdown.
00:30:29.600 --> 00:30:33.360
Like, this is the game that you should ball out, Willie should ball out with.
00:30:33.920 --> 00:30:34.799
No one can guard him.
00:30:34.880 --> 00:30:36.960
There's no one on Youngstown City that can guard him.
00:30:37.039 --> 00:30:37.279
No one.
00:30:37.920 --> 00:30:38.160
Yeah.
00:30:38.319 --> 00:30:39.519
I like to see other guys too.
00:30:39.600 --> 00:30:44.720
Like, yeah, I'm I mean, I'm gonna say all Kentucky guys, but Brock Kaufman, you know, he's got a lot of great.
00:30:45.039 --> 00:30:48.640
I've heard great things like I've heard he could he catches everything.
00:30:48.799 --> 00:30:55.680
Wasn't he the one on the highlight video that made the one-handed catch like get like around the the like I've heard he catches everything?
00:30:56.400 --> 00:31:00.480
Yeah, just as this guy's a per perfect in practice, you know, does everything right.
00:31:00.559 --> 00:31:02.480
It's like you got everything.
00:31:02.799 --> 00:31:13.360
Those that's the guy, too, that that will you're playing a game and nothing's going on, and that's the guy that'll make a stupid, you know, pin it to the back of the corner type catch and change momentum of a game, too.
00:31:13.440 --> 00:31:15.200
Like, I mean, you know, no fear.
00:31:15.440 --> 00:31:16.480
That's what you gotta have.
00:31:17.120 --> 00:31:21.360
You know, just for the record, Paul, on Wednesday nights, I've doctressing here for a moment.
00:31:21.519 --> 00:31:28.880
From eight to ten, I'm always watching something on uh TBS, but I don't, I'm not tonight from eight to nine because I'm with you.
00:31:29.039 --> 00:31:30.000
I choose to be with you.
00:31:30.160 --> 00:31:31.680
Well, we'll watch across that project.
00:31:32.000 --> 00:31:32.559
AEW.
00:31:32.720 --> 00:31:33.120
AEW.
00:31:33.360 --> 00:31:33.920
We'll talk about that later.
00:31:34.080 --> 00:31:36.880
See, I put it on Wednesday so I didn't miss Raw or SmackDown.
00:31:36.960 --> 00:31:37.440
How about that?
00:31:38.080 --> 00:31:38.799
You selfish.
00:31:39.039 --> 00:31:41.440
Uh uh, let's talk big blue wall.
00:31:41.680 --> 00:31:46.319
Kentucky's projected offensive line has 91 combined career start.
00:31:46.640 --> 00:31:47.600
That sounds like a lot.
00:31:47.759 --> 00:31:51.920
The expected core includes uh Herd, uh Shabala.
00:31:52.160 --> 00:32:00.559
I'm gonna print a butcher that Shabala, Price, Selm, and Tegras Shabbala, Shabala, um from Ohio State.
00:32:00.799 --> 00:32:01.120
Okay.
00:32:01.440 --> 00:32:18.799
Um, I think what I'm my notes, evaluation points for for an offensive line, no free rushers, a clean interior pocket, movement at the point of attack, no drive killing, holding penalties, communication against stunts, finishing blocks, sustained success on third and short.
00:32:18.880 --> 00:32:28.720
So the question I pose to you guys, David, if Kentucky's offensive line cannot control Youngstown State, would that concern you more than anything Minchie might do?
00:32:28.880 --> 00:32:29.759
Uh yes.
00:32:29.920 --> 00:32:32.160
Yeah, and that would be in a word, yeah.
00:32:32.400 --> 00:32:32.960
Very good.
00:32:33.039 --> 00:32:35.680
Minchie should be breakfast, lunch, and dinner back there.
00:32:36.240 --> 00:32:36.400
Right.
00:32:36.799 --> 00:32:37.039
Should.
00:32:37.120 --> 00:32:37.279
Yeah.
00:32:37.440 --> 00:32:38.559
Paul, same to you.
00:32:38.720 --> 00:32:43.759
I don't know if you've seen how big our offensive line is, but you've got you've got 6'8, 329.
00:32:44.160 --> 00:32:48.319
Uh I mean, Colton Price is a 6'3, 308-pound center.
00:32:48.400 --> 00:32:51.279
That's a big center, and he's played a lot of football.
00:32:51.440 --> 00:32:54.559
Uh uh Alinian is 6'6, 329.
00:32:54.880 --> 00:32:59.200
You've got um Shibala is 6'3, 329.
00:32:59.519 --> 00:33:04.799
Um, you've got other guys that I don't even know if like, you know, Malachi Woods, 6'8, 329.
00:33:04.960 --> 00:33:06.559
Um, you got a lot of size.
00:33:06.640 --> 00:33:10.960
This is a this is probably the biggest offensive line we've had in a long time.
00:33:11.120 --> 00:33:17.200
Um, the real question with these guys is how how do they just gel together with their stunts, their protection packages?
00:33:17.360 --> 00:33:19.759
Um, that's where you might see uh an oopsey.
00:33:19.840 --> 00:33:20.400
You kind of hope.
00:33:20.480 --> 00:33:34.319
Like if you're if you're if you are the off, if you're the offensive line coach in this game, you kind of hope Youngstown State throws a lot of just exotic looks at your uh blitzes so you can see how that looks before you go into Alabama because you know you're about to get a bunch of uh exotic blitzes.
00:33:34.480 --> 00:33:37.840
Not saying that listen, there's a lot of a lot of these guys have played a lot of football.
00:33:38.000 --> 00:33:40.480
Um, but it'd be good for them to get tested that way.
00:33:40.559 --> 00:33:50.240
But I mean, no, listen, like we should be averaging five or six yards a carry, and I Minchie should literally be standing back there, you know, smoking a pipe and having a bourbon.
00:33:50.400 --> 00:33:53.759
Um if he's running for his life in this game, I'm I'm nervous.
00:33:53.920 --> 00:33:54.960
I'm very nervous.
00:33:55.440 --> 00:33:56.319
Fair, fair.
00:33:56.559 --> 00:33:57.279
All right, let's go.
00:33:57.360 --> 00:33:58.960
Uh let's talk defense.
00:33:59.200 --> 00:34:06.960
Um, we got um Bo Brungard is uh the reigning Walter Peyton Award winner in 2025.
00:34:07.120 --> 00:34:14.239
Uh he passed for 23 over 3,000 yards, a lot of a lot of stats for him in their opening game.
00:34:14.400 --> 00:34:17.840
Um he passed for 232 yards, three touchdowns, blah blah blah.
00:34:18.319 --> 00:34:24.400
So the question is can can Kentucky pressure Brungard without losing rush lap discipline?
00:34:24.480 --> 00:34:25.360
Yeah, they should.
00:34:25.599 --> 00:34:26.400
I mean, they should.
00:34:26.559 --> 00:34:29.039
Uh Stein was very complimentary of him yesterday.
00:34:29.119 --> 00:34:32.319
He said he's probably one of the best, he said he's one of the best players in the nation.
00:34:32.480 --> 00:34:37.759
Does a FCS FPS said he probably starts on 90% of the SEC teams today?
00:34:37.920 --> 00:34:38.239
Wow.
00:34:38.319 --> 00:34:41.920
Uh I'm sitting here going, like, hey, Kenny Minchie goes to the NFL next year.
00:34:42.159 --> 00:34:44.719
I mean, is he recruiting this guy right now?
00:34:44.880 --> 00:34:47.599
You know, um, but uh said he's very difficult.
00:34:47.679 --> 00:34:54.319
Uh he can make uh make you know, make the lateral throws, uh, but he's he kind of compared to a linebacker that can throw the ball 60 yards.
00:34:54.399 --> 00:34:57.199
Uh so he can, you know, he gets out of the pocket, he's delusive.
00:34:57.279 --> 00:34:59.279
Um, it's really just run gap discipline.
00:34:59.439 --> 00:35:08.719
Uh, you got our front, our front, you know, is probably the most is the deepest, uh, best full on unit, at least going into the season.
00:35:08.799 --> 00:35:13.919
I mean, maybe it's not, you know, maybe maybe the wide receiving core has the potential to overtake that.
00:35:14.079 --> 00:35:17.359
Um, but you know, you've got a lot of size in the middle.
00:35:17.439 --> 00:35:19.519
Um, you've got you got a lot of size there.
00:35:19.599 --> 00:35:21.759
You got a lot of size on the edge, you got a lot of speed.
00:35:21.919 --> 00:35:26.879
This is another area where it's like we this quarterback should be running for his life the whole game.
00:35:27.039 --> 00:35:28.639
Um, you got to dominate.
00:35:28.799 --> 00:35:33.919
And the two strongest units on the on the team are probably our both line plays.
00:35:34.000 --> 00:35:38.000
Uh, and you just want to see him blowing up plays and and just, you know, he's gonna get his.
00:35:38.079 --> 00:35:38.879
It is what it is.
00:35:39.119 --> 00:35:41.679
You just want to, you know, see, make sure that they contain.
00:35:41.919 --> 00:35:42.159
Yeah.
00:35:42.319 --> 00:35:50.159
Uh, real quick before we go to defensive front, um, staying with uh Brungaard, uh, David, what's your thoughts uh on him?
00:35:50.319 --> 00:35:51.919
Oh, I mean, I think he's gonna be a stud.
00:35:52.159 --> 00:35:54.399
My my buddy, you guys remember Bunchy Stallings.
00:35:54.799 --> 00:35:57.759
He's uh he's uh GA for them uh now.
00:35:57.919 --> 00:36:01.119
And uh Ammar Stewart's one of the best coaches I've been around.
00:36:01.199 --> 00:36:07.279
So, you know, even you know, if we lacked any talent, like those guys are gonna be ready to play and they're gonna have the right mentality.
00:36:07.359 --> 00:36:09.679
And so, you know, I I think he's gonna have a great season.
00:36:09.759 --> 00:36:12.079
I always like say the the lines should be shifting.
00:36:12.159 --> 00:36:19.039
If our D line's really good, we should be always like you should see four or five guys in you know in the backfield, you know, like five yards deep.
00:36:19.119 --> 00:36:23.519
If we're on offense, our O line should be like every play, four or five guys like five yards up.
00:36:23.679 --> 00:36:27.839
So I always kind of look at the line like see like, hey, are we like getting movement?
00:36:28.000 --> 00:36:28.879
Are we getting pressured?
00:36:29.359 --> 00:36:34.159
I don't think we're gonna have any issues with that uh this game, but you know, first game, you never know.
00:36:34.399 --> 00:36:35.599
First game, you never know.
00:36:35.759 --> 00:36:38.799
Let's talk uh defensive front impact players.
00:36:38.879 --> 00:36:42.239
We got Humphrey Grace, 18 and a half career sacks.
00:36:42.319 --> 00:36:43.519
That's a nice little number.
00:36:43.599 --> 00:37:02.319
Uh Sam Green, veteran edge presence front returning from injury, Jamarian Harkless, 346-pound interior anchor, Tabion Gatson, experienced defensive tackle, Tyler Thomas, additional pressure off the edge, Lorenzo Cowan, athletic outside linebacker.
00:37:02.480 --> 00:37:04.000
Um, right out of the gate.
00:37:04.079 --> 00:37:08.639
Again, what do you need, Paul, to see from this uh front defensive press?
00:37:08.879 --> 00:37:10.079
Press, press, pressure.
00:37:10.239 --> 00:37:11.679
I want to see him get pressure with four guys.
00:37:11.759 --> 00:37:12.960
I don't want to have to bring a fifth.
00:37:13.359 --> 00:37:15.039
Um, clog the running lanes.
00:37:15.119 --> 00:37:20.159
I mean, listen, the biggest difference between FCS and FBS is you're is is is on the line.
00:37:20.239 --> 00:37:23.279
Like you can have skill guys, guys can run really fast.
00:37:23.439 --> 00:37:24.879
It's size, you know.
00:37:25.039 --> 00:37:28.879
Um, if we get pushed around at all, like again, I don't think we're gonna have to worry about it.
00:37:28.960 --> 00:37:32.000
Um, it'll be good to see like some guys like CJ works and want to see him.
00:37:32.079 --> 00:37:35.599
Like, I heard a lot of good stuff about him uh, you know, coming out of camp.
00:37:35.679 --> 00:37:37.359
Uh, there's a couple other guys.
00:37:37.439 --> 00:37:40.960
Um, you know, like look, Brian Robinson was like a huge recruit we got.
00:37:41.039 --> 00:37:42.559
Like he's been in the program for two years.
00:37:42.719 --> 00:37:44.079
Is he kind of taking a turn?
00:37:44.159 --> 00:37:49.439
Like, is he a guy that can start to contribute tons of talent as compared to a lot of NFL guys when he got here?
00:37:49.519 --> 00:37:54.079
Um, so I want to see that that pressure with that again, same thing on offense.
00:37:54.159 --> 00:37:56.879
You don't want to show a lot of you don't want to show a lot of exotic looks.
00:37:57.039 --> 00:38:02.159
You want to run in your base 3-4-4-3, you know, whatever, 3-3-4, whatever they're gonna run.
00:38:02.319 --> 00:38:08.639
Apparently, you know, we can we're a we're a multi-set defense now, which I also like, and just run up and punch them in the mouth.
00:38:08.719 --> 00:38:11.199
Um, I hope we're playing backups by the third quarter.
00:38:11.359 --> 00:38:12.239
That's what you really want.
00:38:12.399 --> 00:38:15.599
Get in there, kick their ass, dominate, let the other guys get in.
00:38:15.679 --> 00:38:21.279
And if they give up yards because you got, you know, freshmen and you know, dudes that have never played football coming in, so be it.
00:38:21.359 --> 00:38:22.399
Um, but that's what you want.
00:38:22.480 --> 00:38:25.759
You want those game reps because those guys could be important later in the season.
00:38:25.919 --> 00:38:34.960
Uh, what Kentucky must do again on defense, set firm edges, uh, prevent escape lanes through the middle, avoid overrunning the quarterback.
00:38:35.199 --> 00:38:39.039
That's always that's that's been a uh pet peeve of mine in past teams.
00:38:39.199 --> 00:38:48.639
Win first down, rotate defensive lineman, force Sbrungard into predictable third and long situations, tackle him once, no second opportunity.
00:38:48.799 --> 00:38:55.519
David, when an offense faces a quarterback this good, how does that affect the entire team, not just the defense?
00:38:55.679 --> 00:38:59.279
Yeah, I think there's just always like, you know, kind of a flow of the game.
00:38:59.359 --> 00:39:01.599
Like there's always just just a rhythm to it.
00:39:01.839 --> 00:39:23.039
00:39:23.199 --> 00:39:39.599
So I mean, I you know, I think that's a big deal that we got a lot of those guys returning because you know that staple of that defense was was discipline doing your job, and uh stoops and brad white was the best uh best defensive play callers and coaches you see in the country just having the dudes sometimes.
00:39:39.759 --> 00:39:43.359
But um, you know, I think uh I think we'll be we'll be all right on that front.
00:39:43.599 --> 00:39:46.639
Well, there's no question the frustration was offense the last few years.
00:39:46.799 --> 00:39:51.519
I mean, it was very frustrating knowing that if you got down 14-0, you're probably out.
00:39:51.679 --> 00:39:53.199
You you're probably done, you know.
00:39:53.599 --> 00:39:54.799
And and you know this.
00:39:54.960 --> 00:40:05.759
There's game, I mean, you played in games where you came back and and like I mean, Missouri, that was I gotta tell you, man, that was one of the most boring 50 minutes of 55 minutes of football.
00:40:05.919 --> 00:40:10.079
I think I punched myself in the face several times just watching it, just because it was so bad.
00:40:10.159 --> 00:40:10.799
And then you won.
00:40:11.039 --> 00:40:13.199
Oh yeah, I was in the game and I did the same thing.
00:40:13.279 --> 00:40:17.119
So I mean, it was hey, you had some big catches in that game, though.
00:40:17.279 --> 00:40:23.199
So I I I think the the the thing with with like you said, like there's a lot of like good defensive players that stuck around.
00:40:23.279 --> 00:40:26.239
I mean, Marquise Humphrey Grayson, like that's an NFL guy.
00:40:26.399 --> 00:40:27.599
Um, Georgia wanted him.
00:40:27.679 --> 00:40:30.399
We got him over Georgia in the transfer portal last year.
00:40:30.559 --> 00:40:33.759
I you know, that's why our defensive line is so damn deep.
00:40:33.919 --> 00:40:35.519
A lot of these guys stayed.
00:40:35.759 --> 00:40:39.199
Um, so you're gonna have a lot of experience on both fronts.
00:40:39.839 --> 00:40:40.159
Yeah.
00:40:40.399 --> 00:40:41.519
Uh let's go.
00:40:41.599 --> 00:40:43.519
Uh, linebackers, guys.
00:40:43.599 --> 00:40:50.079
Uh, players to watch Bo Barnes, Grant Godfrey, Antoine Smith, uh, Tabian Wallace.
00:40:50.480 --> 00:40:55.919
Um who takes responsibility for Brungard on design runs?
00:40:56.079 --> 00:40:57.839
Um, probably Godfrey.
00:40:57.919 --> 00:41:04.000
Um, I think they've talked about Ty Bryant and Godfrey both getting the green sticker, calling the plays for the defense.
00:41:04.079 --> 00:41:07.599
Uh, they said it would probably they it might be a game by game thing to it.
00:41:07.679 --> 00:41:08.799
They love his game.
00:41:08.960 --> 00:41:11.679
Uh they you know they've been very complimentary about it.
00:41:11.839 --> 00:41:12.559
Bo Barnes.
00:41:12.639 --> 00:41:20.079
I think if you just look at like for like the two biggest, most potential linebackers on the team are Tavian Gaston and Bo Barnes.
00:41:20.319 --> 00:41:22.960
Um, freak athletes, big boys, right?
00:41:23.119 --> 00:41:24.480
Big freak athletes.
00:41:24.639 --> 00:41:25.759
Will they play the most?
00:41:25.839 --> 00:41:26.239
I don't know.
00:41:26.319 --> 00:41:35.439
I kind of look at it in like when like uh Djack um and Oates, um, those types of guys were young and they were getting reps and making plays.
00:41:35.519 --> 00:41:36.960
They were very good in the game.
00:41:37.039 --> 00:41:42.799
Uh, but you had, you know, you had um cash in front of them, you know, that type of like they played, right?
00:41:42.879 --> 00:41:44.719
Like they were very, but it set them up.
00:41:44.879 --> 00:41:46.480
I think you might see that a little bit here.
00:41:46.639 --> 00:41:49.839
Obviously, Alex Safari, there's a good chance he's gonna play.
00:41:49.919 --> 00:41:50.879
Uh he's cleared.
00:41:51.039 --> 00:41:53.439
I don't know if he's going, I don't he's not playing this week.
00:41:53.519 --> 00:41:58.159
And Will Stein said there's a little bit that they want to make sure of before he plays, but I think he will practice.
00:41:58.319 --> 00:42:03.919
You get Alex Safari back, that changes the game because you got a guy who's put a lot of football, he's got good speed, he's put on some more weight.
00:42:04.079 --> 00:42:07.839
Um, he changes the linebacker room, in my opinion, just because he adds that depth piece.
00:42:07.919 --> 00:42:11.919
Now you got Grant Godfrey, Bo Barnes, you know, you've got Alex Safari.
00:42:12.079 --> 00:42:14.559
So I think you have a little bit more to play with there.
00:42:14.719 --> 00:42:16.159
Um, I like the team.
00:42:16.319 --> 00:42:17.839
I I like the linebackers.
00:42:18.079 --> 00:42:19.919
I just don't think we're super deep there.
00:42:20.000 --> 00:42:27.839
Um, and you're gonna need someone like Barnes or Tavian Gats, um, Tavian Wallace to really take another step to be successful there.
00:42:28.159 --> 00:42:28.960
And health is big.
00:42:29.119 --> 00:42:33.279
Yeah, I think I think it's huge for Barnes and Gatson to be the guys and getting a lot of the reps.
00:42:33.359 --> 00:42:36.639
This the D-line, you you rotate a lot with those guys.
00:42:36.799 --> 00:42:39.599
You know, they're big boys, they're not conditioned like uh receivers.
00:42:39.679 --> 00:42:43.599
Or so if they're gonna be on the field a lot, you maybe sub in one or two guys.
00:42:43.759 --> 00:42:48.799
So I think them being impact players and living up to expectations is is is huge.
00:42:49.039 --> 00:42:54.079
And I'm always you know, I know we're talking linebackers, but Ty Bryant's kind of kind of a linebacker build.
00:42:54.159 --> 00:42:59.359
He gets in the box, and he, you know, him being kind of the leader of that defense, I think is huge.
00:42:59.599 --> 00:43:03.679
Big three-time stability, and he's uh you know, he's just a heck of a player.
00:43:03.759 --> 00:43:04.879
You know, he's he's super smart.
00:43:05.039 --> 00:43:16.480
Last time I talked to him, when I when I saw him, not to get off track, but uh we talked about hunt returning for probably 20 minutes, and we were just like, man, isn't that the scariest thing ever?
00:43:16.639 --> 00:43:17.599
Like people don't understand.
00:43:18.079 --> 00:43:18.480
That's right.
00:43:18.639 --> 00:43:20.799
You you did punt retards, right?
00:43:20.960 --> 00:43:21.839
Yeah, yeah.
00:43:22.399 --> 00:43:25.759
I mean, that is to me, is like, oh my god.
00:43:25.839 --> 00:43:33.759
Yeah, you just with it uh we're we'll get to that in a minute because that's that's a crazy that position, anyways.
00:43:34.079 --> 00:43:39.039
Let's uh let's uh fair or foul, guys.
00:43:39.199 --> 00:43:44.879
If Brumgard is repeatedly reaching the secondary untouched, Kentucky is not playing sound defense.
00:43:45.359 --> 00:43:48.480
If that's happening, I'm terrified of what the season looks like.
00:43:48.719 --> 00:43:58.399
I know that's yeah, because you got I mean, you got guys like I think Lenora Sellers is a bum, but the dude can run, he can't throw with a shit, but he can run.
00:43:58.639 --> 00:44:05.919
Um, there's some dudes in that uh on the schedule that if you're front, listen, that's not if we got big problems to talk about.
00:44:06.000 --> 00:44:15.359
If we it's it will happen, it is it will, you know, he's gonna get his one or two, but if it's like six, I'm like, nah, at least against the front.
00:44:15.519 --> 00:44:16.719
He starts doing it in the fourth quarter.
00:44:16.799 --> 00:44:19.679
If he's still in it, it's against the backups, then you know, it is what it is.
00:44:19.839 --> 00:44:23.039
Um, you want to see against the starters, you start seeing that a lot.
00:44:23.119 --> 00:44:28.480
When boy, I everyone starts going into the game, everyone's real excited about September twelfth.
00:44:28.559 --> 00:44:34.719
You start seeing some people going, you know, it's gonna be a good tailgate, but I don't know about this game.
00:44:35.199 --> 00:44:35.839
Oh no.
00:44:36.079 --> 00:44:37.599
All right, let's go secondary, guys.
00:44:37.759 --> 00:44:39.039
Impact players, Ty Bryant.
00:44:39.439 --> 00:44:44.399
Jordan Castell, Aaron Gates, Hassan Sykes, Kevis Thomas.
00:44:44.639 --> 00:44:48.079
Brian enters with five career interceptions.
00:44:48.319 --> 00:44:50.719
Uh Castell and Sykes have three apiece.
00:44:50.960 --> 00:44:53.199
Um, do you want question, guys?
00:44:53.359 --> 00:45:03.119
Do you want Kentucky to play aggressively and risk giving up a big play or keep everything in in front and force young sound state to execute long drives?
00:45:03.359 --> 00:45:13.359
I tell you what, I'm not miss gonna miss Brad White's zone defense and you know, giving up everything anyway, some wars.
00:45:13.839 --> 00:45:19.839
So again, that question that that I gotta tell you though, like the most infuriating thing in the world was that Clemson thing.
00:45:20.079 --> 00:45:23.759
Like blitz, blitz, blitz, blitz, blitz, sack fourth and 19.
00:45:23.839 --> 00:45:24.239
Let's go.
00:45:24.399 --> 00:45:25.759
Three-man pre-vent zone.
00:45:25.839 --> 00:45:34.399
There's a thing about the soups there, the one thing about the soups there that made me want to punch myself in the face was a three-man prevent on fourth or third and long.
00:45:34.480 --> 00:45:40.719
And we would always have our buttholes would always pucker because they'd get like two yards away all the time.
00:45:41.039 --> 00:45:42.000
I'd sometimes get it.
00:45:42.079 --> 00:45:42.799
It drove me nuts.
00:45:42.879 --> 00:45:44.079
And then, like the Clemson thing.
00:45:44.159 --> 00:45:47.759
Anyway, you get also back to um I think the secondary is an interesting thing.
00:45:47.839 --> 00:45:51.119
There's guys that have played a lot of ball, there's guys that come in with a lot of question marks.
00:45:51.279 --> 00:45:53.919
We got some dudes, you know, obviously the guy from Florida.
00:45:54.000 --> 00:45:56.399
I don't know everybody's name right now, guys, so don't kill me.
00:45:56.719 --> 00:45:58.159
I know I can tell you who like guys.
00:45:58.399 --> 00:46:02.799
That's why I'm looking, but you got guys back like Nazir Addison, Tarayan Nichols, obviously Ty Bryant.
00:46:02.879 --> 00:46:04.079
So you have guys that came back.
00:46:04.239 --> 00:46:08.239
Um, so that's you know, that's uh that's a positive.
00:46:08.399 --> 00:46:11.599
Um, Aaron Gates, Jordan Castell, both guys from Florida.
00:46:11.759 --> 00:46:15.119
We also beat the dog shit out of Florida last year, and Florida wasn't very good.
00:46:15.519 --> 00:46:19.279
Um now, guy, now systematically that can change the guys around you.
00:46:19.359 --> 00:46:20.159
That can change.
00:46:20.319 --> 00:46:21.519
Um, everybody knows this.
00:46:21.599 --> 00:46:27.919
Like sometimes you get a guy, he's a player, he's not, you know, doesn't look very good in one system or on one team goes another, and you're just like, where was that guy, right?
00:46:28.159 --> 00:46:30.079
Feel cheated as a fan of the other team.
00:46:30.239 --> 00:46:34.559
Um, so there's a lot of experience, and I think to David's point when he's talking about like Ty Bryant, right?
00:46:34.639 --> 00:46:42.960
Like he's seen a lot of football, he's gonna see a lot of stuff in front of him that will help you anticipate and can maybe stop big plays, uh, especially at the position he he's in.
00:46:43.039 --> 00:46:45.599
Um, I think there's talent at the in the secondary.
00:46:45.759 --> 00:46:47.119
I don't think there's a lot of depth.
00:46:47.279 --> 00:46:49.439
Um, and this is the story of this team.
00:46:49.599 --> 00:46:56.239
I think you've got you've got depth at line, you've got depth at wide receiver, you've got depth on the D line.
00:46:56.480 --> 00:47:00.079
And when I say depth at wide receiver, it's like talented, but there's no prove it.
00:47:00.559 --> 00:47:08.639
If I'm gonna have a place where I have unproven talent, I'd rather go wide receiver than cornerback because you can like say, go run, run ball, catch ball, right?
00:47:08.799 --> 00:47:15.359
Like there's ways you can hide that a little bit more harder to hide on the secondary, especially in the SEC with some of these big physical wide receivers.
00:47:15.439 --> 00:47:18.159
So health is gonna be a big, big key to our secondary.
00:47:18.319 --> 00:47:21.119
If they stay healthy, I think we're gonna have a pretty damn good defense.
00:47:21.199 --> 00:47:24.399
I think it'll be top of the top half of the SEC.
00:47:24.559 --> 00:47:30.239
If we don't, and we have issues, and I worry about that with like Nichols, he's had some, you know, get spanged up.
00:47:30.319 --> 00:47:32.480
Well, it could be a lot harder of a season.
00:47:32.559 --> 00:47:35.599
It's gonna put a lot of pressure on the front, the front four, front seven.
00:47:35.679 --> 00:47:43.839
But if the front if the front is as good as we hope it is, you know, putting pressure on the quarterback in obvious passing situations, I think will help take some pressure off that.
00:47:43.919 --> 00:47:48.000
Because one of the things that that'll help any a secondary, no matter what, is speeding up the quarterback.
00:47:48.079 --> 00:47:51.119
And if they could speed the quarterback up, they're gonna, they'll be, they'll be all right.
00:47:51.359 --> 00:47:56.960
Um, not to throw uh uh myself into the well, I am good at throw myself.
00:47:57.279 --> 00:47:59.039
Kevin's keys to victory.
00:47:59.119 --> 00:48:01.599
That's gotta be hashtag Kevin keys to victory.
00:48:01.759 --> 00:48:04.799
Start fast, contain Bronguard, control both lines.
00:48:04.960 --> 00:48:22.719
I I'm probably oh cliche at everything, but protect the football, play clean football, as in no busted coverages, no protection breakdowns, no unnecessary penalties, no wasted timeouts, wasted timeouts, no special team disasters, clean substitution, proper clock management.
00:48:22.879 --> 00:48:27.279
How many freaking times you punch yourself in the face over that with in the last few years, Paul?
00:48:27.519 --> 00:48:31.279
I had less of an issue on some of it as some of the other people, but that was just me.
00:48:31.599 --> 00:48:34.719
All right, they were just like, Yeah, I didn't know I was gonna come in those two spash fast.
00:48:34.960 --> 00:48:40.480
What the yeah, Kevin's down like Eddie, Eddie Grant right there with like keys to victory right there.
00:48:41.759 --> 00:48:45.039
Kevin's keys to victory, hashtag Kevin Kitty.
00:48:45.119 --> 00:48:45.839
Yeah, I gotta figure that out.
00:48:46.000 --> 00:48:46.319
Thanks, Eddie.
00:48:46.399 --> 00:48:46.799
That's awesome.
00:48:46.960 --> 00:48:48.719
I need a graphic everything.
00:48:48.879 --> 00:48:50.319
I need my own highlight reel.
00:48:51.599 --> 00:48:54.719
Eddie and Keddy's keys to victory score more points than the other team.
00:48:54.799 --> 00:48:55.439
Thanks, guy.
00:48:56.159 --> 00:48:57.919
Bottom line, bottom line.
00:48:58.239 --> 00:49:04.000
Uh Coach Stein has emphasized details, execution, and accountability through the offseason.
00:49:04.159 --> 00:49:07.359
Saturday is the first public examination.
00:49:07.599 --> 00:49:09.279
So, what constitute?
00:49:09.359 --> 00:49:10.639
I'll throw this at you guys.
00:49:10.799 --> 00:49:13.359
What constitutes a successful season opener?
00:49:13.759 --> 00:49:18.559
David, you will feel good about Kentucky after Saturday if fill in the black.
00:49:19.039 --> 00:49:21.359
We win by 21 plus, I think.
00:49:22.319 --> 00:49:22.799
Is the spread?
00:49:22.879 --> 00:49:23.519
There is a spread.
00:49:23.919 --> 00:49:24.559
23 and a half.
00:49:24.719 --> 00:49:26.399
23 and a half plus okay.
00:49:26.480 --> 00:49:31.039
Then if we win by 23 and a half plus, then I'll cover the spread.
00:49:31.919 --> 00:49:32.399
Yeah, yeah.
00:49:32.480 --> 00:49:37.919
I think I I mean I won't mind him trying new things, and I want the game to be in control, you know.
00:49:38.639 --> 00:49:41.839
We never blew out anyone in the stoops there, but I want the game to be in control.
00:49:41.919 --> 00:49:51.439
And I, you know, I want to see other guys maybe we we've only touched on play well and see what you got, because a lot of guys you don't know what you got until they're playing the game.
00:49:51.679 --> 00:49:54.480
So I I'd like to see the ball being thrown around.
00:49:54.559 --> 00:49:56.159
I'd like to see guys executing.
00:49:56.239 --> 00:49:58.159
I would like to see no big mistakes.
00:49:58.239 --> 00:50:04.480
I'd like to, like Kevin said, just a clean game where everyone's executing and the game is never in doubt.
00:50:04.960 --> 00:50:08.879
Paul, you will feel good about Saturday if we looked the part.
00:50:09.039 --> 00:50:21.119
Um, I think the last time we looked when when I know we ended up looking more the part, you know, the beginning of the 18 season, you know, the first game didn't start well, it but it finished well, right?
00:50:21.279 --> 00:50:32.480
Um I think the first game we really had a we looked the part, and we were good was Levis, the 10-win Levis season came out, what do you throw for 400 yards or something like that?
00:50:33.119 --> 00:50:34.559
You look, you looked it.
00:50:34.639 --> 00:50:37.119
I want Kentucky to look the part, right?
00:50:37.279 --> 00:50:39.599
I want this to be a fun, boring game.
00:50:40.639 --> 00:50:47.759
I don't want to have to be like it's the it's the first quarter, it's 10-3, it's 7-0, it's 10, right?
00:50:47.839 --> 00:50:52.079
Uh you know, score 28, 21, 28 points of the first quarter.
00:50:53.599 --> 00:51:00.960
Feel like you're the team that that could go and give Bama a run for the money the next the next weekend, and I think everyone's gonna be happy.
00:51:01.439 --> 00:51:08.559
What will make me feel good about our cats after Sunday is Mitchie looks completely in control.
00:51:08.719 --> 00:51:10.319
The offensive line dominates.
00:51:10.480 --> 00:51:14.319
Kentucky contains Bromguard, UK commits no turnovers.
00:51:14.480 --> 00:51:16.559
The starters are resting in the fourth quarter.
00:51:16.719 --> 00:51:22.799
Young players receive young players receive meaningful staps, Kentucky avoids significant injuries.
00:51:23.039 --> 00:51:23.599
No injuries.
00:51:23.919 --> 00:51:24.319
No injuries.
00:51:24.480 --> 00:51:24.879
No injuries.
00:51:25.039 --> 00:51:28.159
And we look or we look organized in all three phases.
00:51:28.319 --> 00:51:30.399
I don't care if the game's ugly, just no injuries.
00:51:30.879 --> 00:51:31.759
Yes, yeah, we can.
00:51:32.079 --> 00:51:37.359
Uh we need uh we really need that second half to be uh who who are these guys?
00:51:37.439 --> 00:51:38.559
That's the question you're asked.
00:51:38.719 --> 00:51:39.679
Who are these guys playing?
00:51:39.759 --> 00:51:40.480
But or on the field.
00:51:40.719 --> 00:51:46.319
It'd be good for to get like and Will Stein's a guy, I think, and you know, we didn't see a lot in the stoops era.
00:51:46.559 --> 00:51:52.639
I mean, we didn't have all chances a ton, ton, but we didn't see in the stoops era a ton of like your backup quarterback playing a ton.
00:51:52.799 --> 00:51:59.119
Um, it'd be good to get get that because I think I mean from all intents and purposes, I've heard that that is a hell of a battle right now.
00:51:59.199 --> 00:52:00.239
Like we really I don't know.
00:52:00.399 --> 00:52:07.759
I think they if Minchie got hurt early, I think they know who they would go to, but I think if it gets later in the season, I don't think they I think that could change.
00:52:07.919 --> 00:52:14.799
Uh so it'd be good to see the the backup quarterback get in, the the you know, the maybe that the three guy depth guys are wide receiver.
00:52:14.960 --> 00:52:17.359
Um we just take care of business.
00:52:17.519 --> 00:52:19.279
Take care of business so you don't risk injury.
00:52:19.439 --> 00:52:20.239
Gotta stay healthy.
00:52:20.319 --> 00:52:20.559
Yeah.
00:52:20.799 --> 00:52:33.279
Would you rather see a 50-point exp, you know, offensive explosion or 20 some point uh scoring where the we dominate defensively.
00:52:33.519 --> 00:52:34.559
I want to score 50.
00:52:34.719 --> 00:52:35.359
Yeah, yeah.
00:52:35.839 --> 00:52:41.679
I want the dominators, yeah, deserve uh I think he's gonna try and run it up if I had to get it.
00:52:41.839 --> 00:52:43.039
55-28.
00:52:43.199 --> 00:52:56.159
You give up, you know, you know, one in the first half, one in the third, and maybe two in the fourth with your maybe late in the third, late in the third, two in the fourth with your backups, but you're up 48 to 7 when that happens.
00:52:56.239 --> 00:52:58.719
Like, you know, I think I take that in a heartbeat.
00:52:58.799 --> 00:53:04.719
Um I don't I I you know, I think 28's a lot of points for them to score, but um, I want to see a score.
00:53:04.799 --> 00:53:09.199
Wait, well, it's been a while since we've scored 40 plus in the opening game, I think.
00:53:09.279 --> 00:53:10.719
I don't I gotta go back and look.
00:53:11.039 --> 00:53:13.279
It's been a while since we've maybe Leary.
00:53:13.519 --> 00:53:15.439
I think with that Leary team score like fifth.
00:53:15.599 --> 00:53:16.079
I don't remember.
00:53:16.319 --> 00:53:17.039
It's been a while.
00:53:17.439 --> 00:53:19.119
I think that just goes to looking the part.
00:53:19.679 --> 00:53:19.839
Yep.
00:53:20.000 --> 00:53:20.879
All right, man.
00:53:21.039 --> 00:53:24.639
We are uh rounding third and heading for home here.
00:53:24.719 --> 00:53:26.719
Uh once again, final prediction.
00:53:26.799 --> 00:53:28.639
Give me uh Paul, final score.
00:53:28.719 --> 00:53:29.839
What's what are you seeing?
00:53:30.079 --> 00:53:35.679
I'm gonna say the final score is 48 48 17.
00:53:36.159 --> 00:53:37.359
I'm I'm close.
00:53:37.439 --> 00:53:39.439
I I'll say 38-17.
00:53:39.519 --> 00:53:41.359
What say you, Bouvier?
00:53:41.839 --> 00:53:45.199
Give me give me 4117.
00:53:46.719 --> 00:53:47.919
We all say 17.
00:53:48.079 --> 00:53:51.199
Okay, I think it could be more, but I I have to I I wanna see.
00:53:51.279 --> 00:53:52.399
I don't know what I'm getting into.
00:53:52.559 --> 00:53:58.480
If I say something stupid like 63 to 10, and it's an and it's like 34 to 13, I'm gonna look like an idiot.
00:53:58.559 --> 00:54:01.359
Yeah, so I think it could be worse, but let's just see.
00:54:01.599 --> 00:54:03.839
Do you need that score to look like an idiot?
00:54:04.239 --> 00:54:04.960
I hope so.
00:54:05.119 --> 00:54:07.279
I'm kidding, yeah, kidding.
00:54:07.439 --> 00:54:10.159
Yeah, they'll end up scoring when you're 24 to nothing.
00:54:10.960 --> 00:54:12.879
Uh all right, man.
00:54:13.039 --> 00:54:23.599
Um, bleep boo prime prime time doing our debut on a Wednesday night, impeding my normal Wednesday night festivities.
00:54:23.759 --> 00:54:29.279
But for you, Paul, I I I succumb to it's your voice.
00:54:29.439 --> 00:54:30.799
I can't listen to your voice.
00:54:31.119 --> 00:54:31.359
I do.
00:54:31.679 --> 00:54:35.279
It's the cadence in your voice that just talks me into doing stuff.
00:54:35.519 --> 00:54:36.399
This was your idea.
00:54:36.480 --> 00:54:37.519
I don't know what you're talking about.
00:54:37.759 --> 00:54:42.960
You came to me for this, but but you like the idea, and we're you know, we're we're a team, right?
00:54:43.119 --> 00:54:43.519
We're a team.
00:54:43.759 --> 00:54:46.079
I like the idea of talking, it's kind of my thing.
00:54:46.399 --> 00:54:48.159
Not to put Bouvier on the spot.
00:54:48.319 --> 00:54:58.960
This is where on every Wednesday night prime time we're gonna be talking, you know, recapping, looking ahead, you know, having a former player on with us, you know, is pretty cool.
00:54:59.119 --> 00:55:01.199
So David I got a question for David, though.
00:55:01.359 --> 00:55:17.519
Like as a as a Kentucky fan, and then you played for Kentucky, because you know all the history, like it's hard to get the juju out of your head when you're playing a game like a Missouri, does it did it ever like go in your mind of like F, like we're gonna get this close again and it's not gonna happen?
00:55:17.599 --> 00:55:20.000
Like, did that ever get in like in your head?
00:55:20.159 --> 00:55:23.039
Like the history, did that ever come to pass there?
00:55:23.439 --> 00:55:25.359
I mean, it's it's it was hard not to.
00:55:25.439 --> 00:55:32.239
I think as like the first like couple games, I think I mean knocking down that uh you know, knocking off Florida was a big, big deal.
00:55:32.319 --> 00:55:36.159
And you know, you could just kind of tell going into the season that that team, this team's gonna be different.
00:55:36.239 --> 00:55:40.960
You know, we all kind of got like a winning mentality, we all want to do something more, we all want to make history.
00:55:41.119 --> 00:55:45.039
And that uh, you know, that Missouri game, I mean, that was it was looking bleak.
00:55:45.119 --> 00:55:51.439
I was definitely saying I definitely said this looks this looks bleak, but you know, our defense, I think they that was Drew Locke at quarterback, too.
00:55:51.759 --> 00:55:52.960
Shut him out in the second half, I think.
00:55:53.039 --> 00:55:56.079
Right, they didn't get a first down, I think, in the second half.
00:55:56.319 --> 00:56:01.839
Not one first down, and then you know, two-minute drill so many times in a season, we we marched down the field and scored.
00:56:01.919 --> 00:56:04.559
We should have just done that all year, it's just done two-minute drill and offense.
00:56:04.799 --> 00:56:08.319
But um, and then Lynn Bowden stoops would have had heart failure.
00:56:08.480 --> 00:56:09.119
Yeah.
00:56:09.439 --> 00:56:11.839
And look, and then Lynn Bowden returning that punt.
00:56:12.239 --> 00:56:15.679
A lot of people know me and him split responsibilities in punt return.
00:56:15.839 --> 00:56:24.000
It was up to us who goes out there, and we would just be like, and I did it 90% of the time because Lynn wasn't comfortable back there uh doing punt returns.
00:56:24.079 --> 00:56:27.839
But that Missouri game, he was just like, he was like, Boo, I'm hot right now.
00:56:27.919 --> 00:56:28.319
I'm hot.
00:56:28.480 --> 00:56:32.239
And I was like, dude, go go out there right now, returns it for a touchdown.
00:56:32.399 --> 00:56:35.439
He was just a huge, incredible guy in open space.
00:56:35.519 --> 00:56:37.759
And then Penn State, he did it, did the same thing.
00:56:37.839 --> 00:56:38.879
He was just like, I'm feeling it.
00:56:39.119 --> 00:56:41.199
I was like, dude, go, please go out there.
00:56:41.359 --> 00:56:44.719
Then he scores scores a touchdown, and then he comes back.
00:56:44.799 --> 00:56:46.559
Uh, you know, we get a quick three and out.
00:56:46.719 --> 00:56:48.559
He's like, he's like, Boo, I'm so tired.
00:56:48.639 --> 00:56:49.599
Like, you have to go out there.
00:56:49.759 --> 00:56:50.799
I was like, no way.
00:56:53.919 --> 00:56:55.599
I'm gonna get really hyped.
00:56:55.759 --> 00:56:57.279
I'm gonna get booed if I go out there.
00:56:57.359 --> 00:56:58.879
Yeah, go fair catch it, dude.
00:56:58.960 --> 00:57:00.159
Just go out there and do this.
00:57:00.319 --> 00:57:01.599
Yeah, I was like, dude, you can't.
00:57:01.759 --> 00:57:03.759
Well, if you got booed, think about it.
00:57:03.919 --> 00:57:06.639
Is it are you getting booed or are they saying booed?
00:57:09.039 --> 00:57:10.239
Yeah, boo, yeah.
00:57:10.799 --> 00:57:16.000
I mean, real quick, real quick, tell give me the the mentality of punt return.
00:57:16.319 --> 00:57:20.079
I mean, it's what me and like Ty were saying.
00:57:20.159 --> 00:57:26.000
It's like you just kind of like first just gotta catch a thousand balls in the summer because there's you just want it to be second nature.
00:57:26.079 --> 00:57:27.199
You just want to catch like as many.
00:57:27.519 --> 00:57:29.199
The catching part I'm not worried about.
00:57:29.279 --> 00:57:35.119
It's the uh it's these freak athletes coming at you, you know, at 35 miles an hour.
00:57:35.279 --> 00:57:44.079
Yeah, I was my my routine was first to say an hour father, and then yeah, and then I'd kind of look look out there, I would say, like, all right, did the the gunner win?
00:57:44.239 --> 00:57:50.079
All right, he did, like, you know, and then just kind of do a quick glance and see if uh we're gonna fair catch or not.
00:57:50.159 --> 00:57:52.239
I always erred on you know, fair catching.
00:57:52.319 --> 00:57:54.559
So uh was there ever a time?
00:57:55.199 --> 00:57:59.599
Was there ever a time you got hit so hard that you literally wanted your mom?
00:58:00.079 --> 00:58:00.719
Yeah, yeah.
00:58:00.960 --> 00:58:09.679
I mean, I think uh yeah, Central Michigan in the first game, I got hit on the sideline, and you know, it was it was kind of one of those like I uh where where am I right now?
00:58:09.919 --> 00:58:11.359
And I kind of bounced back quick.
00:58:11.439 --> 00:58:25.679
So that you know, it was uh but I think the biggest thing was just the the stadium, like Texas AM, 100,000 people, and you know, you're kind of on an island and you got an Aussie punter who's you know can kick it 65 yards or he's gonna roll out.
00:58:25.759 --> 00:58:29.919
So you just seeing the ball off a foot and kind of making quick decisions was uh was difficult.
00:58:30.000 --> 00:58:35.279
I don't I don't really miss it too much, but um you know I I didn't I didn't mind it at the time.
00:58:35.519 --> 00:58:38.239
I asked you actually get to go to games, David.
00:58:39.039 --> 00:58:39.599
Oh, yeah, yeah.
00:58:40.000 --> 00:58:43.519
I got got season tickets and uh go to go to every game I can.
00:58:43.759 --> 00:58:47.679
I think Tom wants to talk to you about well I I asked Cash this.
00:58:48.079 --> 00:58:51.919
Um it'll be kidding because so I got a defensive guy opinion on it.
00:58:52.159 --> 00:58:54.399
What happened in that Tennessee game?
00:58:54.559 --> 00:58:55.919
Obviously, they were not good.
00:58:56.399 --> 00:59:05.679
Cash's thing was Georgia was such an emotional game because it was playing at home for the SEC's title, and it just kind of sucked the wind out of you guys for a week.
00:59:05.919 --> 00:59:09.679
Curious to hear kind of what your thoughts on that, uh what your take on it is for that game.
00:59:09.839 --> 00:59:10.399
I remember that.
00:59:10.480 --> 00:59:11.039
Yeah, yeah.
00:59:11.119 --> 00:59:13.039
I think I think Cash is right with that.
00:59:13.119 --> 00:59:24.319
Like it was just such a build-up during the week with like SEC network coming and interviews during it was uh I I think, and you just kind of felt before the game the the juice wasn't there with with the team.
00:59:24.399 --> 00:59:32.960
I think Stoops kind of he never had too much problems motivating us, but that game he was like, Yeah, I still kind of remember him being like, you know, I'm not really feeling it right now, guys.
00:59:33.039 --> 00:59:34.639
Let's let's step it up, let's get it going.
00:59:34.719 --> 00:59:38.000
I just think we never really, you know, kind of uh kind of got it going.
00:59:38.079 --> 00:59:39.039
And it was it was tough.
00:59:39.119 --> 00:59:40.719
And it was a weird Tennessee thing.
00:59:40.799 --> 00:59:46.480
I mean, a few times I've been there the years before, like it was just rowdy and it was always like a noon or three o'clock game.
00:59:46.719 --> 00:59:48.559
There's a lot of UK fans at that game.
00:59:48.719 --> 00:59:54.559
Yeah, there's a more you there's a lot of UK fans, but it still wasn't like you know, it's didn't have that hype around it.
00:59:54.639 --> 00:59:59.039
We never truly got it going, and you know, it was uh it was just one of those games.
00:59:59.119 --> 01:00:01.759
We just uh couldn't couldn't get a groove, couldn't get a flow going.
01:00:02.000 --> 01:00:04.879
Is that one you wish you had back, like of all the games you played?
01:00:04.960 --> 01:00:07.279
Because that that was like they just were not good.
01:00:07.519 --> 01:00:09.119
Yeah, no, definitely.
01:00:09.279 --> 01:00:11.519
I mean, I think they finished five and seven or something.
01:00:11.679 --> 01:00:16.239
It was just it was just such a nice opportunity to get a win against Tennessee and Florida.
01:00:16.639 --> 01:00:21.759
It took us out of but it and it took us out of the the the the New Year six games.
01:00:21.919 --> 01:00:22.239
Right.
01:00:22.399 --> 01:00:23.279
Yeah, that's good.
01:00:23.679 --> 01:00:26.159
I think we were weren't we still scared like Peach Bowl?
01:00:26.480 --> 01:00:30.000
I think there it was like talking about Peach Bowl and Michigan or something like that.
01:00:30.159 --> 01:00:39.199
I remember I know it was Peach Bowl and some or an orange bowl, I think that they were we were still potentially in for, and then obviously sorry to bring up bad memory on that.
01:00:39.279 --> 01:00:40.719
But yeah, thanks, thanks, Paul.
01:00:40.799 --> 01:00:41.279
No, I'm sure.
01:00:42.480 --> 01:00:45.759
No, it's it's interesting because because like then it was the bounce back, right?
01:00:45.839 --> 01:00:49.359
Like beat the piss out of Tennessee uh or or U of L.
01:00:49.679 --> 01:00:52.319
Um, and then you know ultimately win against Penn State.
01:00:52.399 --> 01:01:03.599
That's the game I know a lot of Kentucky fans look at in that season because it was like it just felt like it was just a weird, like we didn't really play a stinker all season, and that was it was a dud.
01:01:03.679 --> 01:01:06.879
Yeah, it was and it had to be against those orange bastards.
01:01:07.119 --> 01:01:10.480
I know, I know orange bastards.
01:01:13.439 --> 01:01:14.319
Yeah, trust me.
01:01:15.839 --> 01:01:17.439
Uh that was that was a tough one.
01:01:17.519 --> 01:01:20.799
Yeah, I think Cash is right though, just never quite got into it.
01:01:21.199 --> 01:01:22.079
Look, I I get it.
01:01:22.159 --> 01:01:27.359
I uh as a fan, I don't think I've ever been a mo as emotional pregame as I was Georgia.
01:01:27.519 --> 01:01:30.799
I mean, and I'm sure that would have been 10x for you guys, especially you.
01:01:30.960 --> 01:01:37.359
Um, you know, you grew up here, you it was a game you probably never thought Kentucky would get as a fan, much less that you would be the one that played in, right?
01:01:37.439 --> 01:01:40.639
Like SEC East to win the SEC East at home.
01:01:40.719 --> 01:01:47.599
Um, we ran into a buzz all, but I mean, that I think just that whole game, and it was just it was always that weird close game, too.
01:01:47.679 --> 01:01:54.399
Like they were just far enough ahead, and every time we'd make a run, they just um that was a really good, really damn good Georgia team, too.
01:01:54.480 --> 01:01:56.079
So it's not like you can really say anything about it.
01:01:56.159 --> 01:01:58.159
That was a really good damn Georgia team, right?
01:01:58.239 --> 01:01:59.119
Yeah, I know.
01:01:59.199 --> 01:02:05.359
Yeah, that was that was uh that was one, you know, with the the juice was the juice was there, but I mean that was just a really good team.
01:02:05.439 --> 01:02:12.399
Yeah, it was the same as Tennessee, like they were just top to bottom, just you know, just nobody did to our secondary what those wide receivers did.
01:02:12.480 --> 01:02:15.119
They made our secondary look like they were staying still half the game.
01:02:15.279 --> 01:02:16.399
Oh yeah, yeah.
01:02:16.879 --> 01:02:23.359
It was I mean, what what did uh Josh Allen had what two sacks and two fumble recoveries or something like that in the first half?
01:02:23.919 --> 01:02:26.960
I mean it kept us in, but boy, oh boy, were they good.
01:02:27.119 --> 01:02:29.679
And we had some turnovers too, and so it's so weird.
01:02:29.759 --> 01:02:35.519
It was uh yeah, I I I remember like I remember sitting in the stands that game and they're playing my own Kitsaki Home.
01:02:35.679 --> 01:02:40.559
People are just crying, you know, because it was like it was the realization of what you were playing for.
01:02:40.719 --> 01:02:46.319
Um, and it felt good to be there, and then you know, is what it is, but it was very emotional, yeah.
01:02:46.480 --> 01:03:10.000
Yeah, all right, it is time to close the night, shut down the night, and I do have because technically I host Paul's with me, Paul talks way way more than I will, but I do get to start it and end it tonight, begin something new, not only for Kentucky football, but for all of us here at Bleed Blue Primetime.
01:03:10.319 --> 01:03:13.119
Kentucky should beat Youngstown State, period.
01:03:13.199 --> 01:03:16.639
That's the expectation, and there is no reason to dance around it.
01:03:16.719 --> 01:03:20.399
But Saturday is about more than simply getting to one and oh.
01:03:20.480 --> 01:03:24.879
We need to see whether Kenny Minchie looks like the leader of this offense.
01:03:25.039 --> 01:03:29.439
We need to see whether the big blue wall has truly been rebuilt.
01:03:29.599 --> 01:03:34.719
We need to see whether Kentucky can contain one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football.
01:03:35.279 --> 01:03:36.960
Does Grove Street survive?
01:03:37.199 --> 01:03:38.079
No, yeah.
01:03:39.119 --> 01:03:41.279
More importantly, we need to see question.
01:03:41.519 --> 01:03:42.879
Yeah, that's that's really good.
01:03:43.039 --> 01:03:43.679
Fair question.
01:03:43.919 --> 01:03:47.279
We need to see a team that looks prepared, disciplined, and connected.
01:03:47.439 --> 01:03:50.799
The Will Stein era begins Saturday afternoon, 1 p.m.
01:03:51.039 --> 01:03:52.319
at Kroger Field.
01:03:52.399 --> 01:03:58.000
We spent an entire offseason talking about what this new Kentucky football program might become.
01:03:58.159 --> 01:03:59.839
Now we finally get to see it.
01:04:00.159 --> 01:04:06.319
David, thank you for joining us and bringing us a former player's perspective to our debut.
01:04:06.559 --> 01:04:10.719
Paul, we have officially put the first blee blue prime time in the book.
01:04:10.799 --> 01:04:20.559
And to everyone who joined us tonight on YouTube, X, thank you for being a part of the beginning for Paul, David, and everyone with Blee Blue Network.
01:04:20.639 --> 01:04:23.679
We got a cast of characters with the our network.
01:04:24.079 --> 01:04:27.279
And we'll they'll all be coming on uh down the road.
01:04:27.599 --> 01:04:31.519
Cast and and shout out to Sports View America, Kevin here.
01:04:31.599 --> 01:04:34.799
Enjoy the game, big blue nation, uh go cats.
01:04:35.039 --> 01:04:37.759
We'll see you next Wednesday for more prime time.
01:04:38.159 --> 01:04:39.439
Peace out, people.
01:04:39.679 --> 01:04:40.159
See you guys.
01:04:40.239 --> 01:04:40.559
See you guys.
