इस एपिसोड के बारे में
“Every generation inherits something. Our responsibility is to decide what deserves to be carried forward, what needs to change, and what should end with us.”
Careers. Businesses. Children becoming adults. Aging parents. Family responsibilities across countries. Grief. Money. Health. Legacy. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, trying to build a life of your own.
Welcome to the sandwich generation.
In this episode, hosts and co-founders Stacey Luces and Denise Williams step into a conversation that wasn't originally planned, but felt increasingly impossible not to have.
For Caribbean people, the experience of being sandwiched between generations carries another layer. Caregiving often isn't something we think of as a separate responsibility. It is simply what family does. Our cultures have long been shaped by collective responsibility, extended family, migration, sacrifice and the expectation that each generation helps the next.
But what happens when the world our children are entering looks very different from the one that shaped us?
Stacey and Denise get candid about sending children to college, parenting young adults, loosening the grip of command-and-control parenting and learning to let the next generation lead us too.
How do you protect children without controlling them? Allow disagreement without interpreting it as disrespect? Encourage success without requiring them to live your definition of it?
At the same time, another profound transition is happening. The parents and elders who once cared for us are aging, and slowly the relationship begins to reverse.
Suddenly, we're navigating healthcare, loneliness, finances, estate planning, grief and difficult conversations about what comes next, often across countries and while managing full lives of our own.
At the center of the conversation is a bigger question: What did we inherit that deserves to be preserved, and what should end with us?
Because generational progress doesn't require rejecting where we came from. It requires enough discernment to know what to carry forward.
