For Fox Sake: Hello and welcome to Headlines from myself Pete Selby here at For Fox Sake, talking all things headlines from the weekend. What made the headlines with Leicester City in their one-one very disappointing drawaway at Barnsley? What was being said on social media? What was being said in the written and wider press as well. First up, the reason that we're in a day late is because we've got a long international period ahead of us. So I've just allowed myself an extra day to gather my thoughts after what was a yeah, thoroughly disappointing. Disappointing results at Oakwell. Also, we do have a game tomorrow night in what the EFL trophy against Fulham under twenty ones. Ha what will be the attendance? I reckon it's going to be below eight thousand, surely, at King Power. also this week on for Fox8.news, head to for Fox8.news, subscribe now for only five pounds a month and you've got plenty on there. There's the five things that we learnt from the Barnsley game. There's also reaction to Leicester City women's disappointing defeats against Ipswich by Golden Hill at King Power on Sunday. Lots coming up in this international period as well. So don't worry, there's gonna be loads and loads of content on for foxake.news. Do make sure you play the quiz as well. Every Sunday there is the quiz on for foxake.news. And again, it's all there for just five pounds a month and subscription is in your hands. So if you like it, great. Carry on with the subscription. Great present as well. but yep, sign up now. Five pounds a month for foxake.news. Now what was being said after the game? What a disappointing game. They should have won. Let's get it right. They should. have won. Well, Matt Gordon, he replies Regarding the the the the chanting really, Russell Martin, your football is yes, exactly. There was an awful lot of that again. Well, he does imply that his and he posted the goal that which we scored after twenty two passes with all eleven players touching the ball. So kind of a little bit of a nod towards what was being said saying, Well, when it works, it works. And it was an absolutely glorious goal. It really was a fantastic goal. But if you look at the beginning of that movement, of that 22 pass movement, for me, the first ten passes are all rather dangerous in and around our area, and they just got away with one or two. Now, obviously, then in the second half of that movement, it worked really well. And that's the bit I like. I like the second half of the field. I love that movement and crisp passing. But it's the passing around the area to get in that position. Now, you might turn around and say We need to do that to get in the position to do what we did in the second half of the field. But I would argue in League One it's not so much and it could easily you could have easily given the ball away. And guess what? That's what happened for their goal. And it was pretty poor by the goalkeeper as well. then we have a comment from Luke Hall as well. And Luke Hall says, I wonder who City Thanks fans think that we could bring in as a manager. Anyone with half a brain will take one look at us and our fans and think, not a chance. It's hard enough as it is. there is literally no one else, and even if there was a few bad results and it goes toxic, so what's the point? So again, in a reaction to the fans' reaction to Russell Martin after the draw, now the one big big thing that happened before the game was the reaction to Walt Vass being selected. We did on the preview, if you listen to the preview or watch the preview on Apple Podcasts, on Spotify, or on YouTube, if you watched it. with myself and Andy Moore from for Foxtake.news, I did actually hint towards that Walt Vass may be included. I may have got something right. Callum Boyle says the mind boggles as to why people were justifying the Walt Vass selection today and he really didn't want it to happen. So he was there at Oakwell with Rob Hayes. And I that must have been the conversation in the stands before the game. and overall he had a good game, but we know that he's good enough for this level. It's just everything else that comes with. Jason Bourne, after the pos positivity of a win, they can't follow it up with another, a missed opportunity given the performance of the first half, being up against ten man, ten men, really lacking a finishing touch in the final third today, it's a poor result in the circumstances. There's obviously a problem with British, and I can't for the life of me wonder what think of why we have two centre forwards. Surely they both need to be in the squad, one in the first team and then one on the bench. And then you can also chop and change or bring one on to go two up front. We really lack that cutting edge in the second half. Sean Sweeney, you take a point away at ten man Barnsley. Yeah, okay. tongue in cheek there. Joss says, We played all right, but the result is unacceptable. We should beat them with eleven men, let alone ten. And I think that's a really good comment from LCFC Joss. I completely agree. I thought they were very, very poor. Jack Whiteman goes, if anyone can sit here and say that Russell Martin is right choice, you're deluded. useless, hopeful with rubbish football and a bunch of players who should easily win this league, get him gone and also take Watson with you. Watson was very poor, wasn't he? Fox fifty says two wins from the opening seven League One games. is completely unacceptable. The crazy thing, if Leicester operated like a club with ambition, Martin would be gone before the game on Tuesday against Fulham under twenty ones. the result today completely lies with the players, however. Russell Martin's subs were atrocious. And that's where I look at it. I I do look at this one's with the players. It was terrible in the second half. No cutting edge. Easily eat should have easily been in front by a couple anyway, but deary me. Not good at all, says Get Carter. He says we should not be drawing a game when we are leading and playing with ten men against ten men for over seventy minutes. Nine from seven League One games is pathetic. Elm Steve he says one more more than enough chances to win that comfortably. Players need to have a word with themselves. Absolutely. And thank God for the international break. Yeah, I think we all could do with a bit of a breather. Chloe mentions about those substitutions and said every single one made us weaker. And I agree, there was no real change in in tactics. It was just man for man and it it didn't work. Daniel Orm though he he does mention about the fact that it was all about the players. He says it might be an unpopular opinion But this draw has nothing to do with Russell Martin or his style, which for the most part worked very well today, but the lack of concentration, conviction, and ruthlessness up front cost them. And that's down to the players. And and Russell Martin himself says that as well. He said after the game, he's frustrated by the lack of decisiveness in the box. You can't have fifty plus touches in the opposition box and only score one goal. We need to be far more clinical. We do, Russell. We do. Now regarding the selection of Walt Vass, which of course was going to be asked to Russell Martin after the game, he made here this comment good energy and brilliant football. he helped us a lot in the build up today because he made those marauding runs forward and it did look a little bit easy for him. He's a bit rusty and tired towards the end, he hasn't played for a while, he'll get better and better and can be a big help for us. And you just have to think that he's gonna play, isn't he? He's gonna play. This is not a flash in the pan, this is Walt Vass. Now as a first team player back at Leicester. Callum Boyle, he reacts to that. Walt Vass, your reward for disrespecting the fans, twerking for a move away over two years and being left out until the summer transfer window is gone to start a game. So, so disappointing. And I think that's the thing with Walt Vass and Leicester fans. We all know about him, etcetera. We know he's good enough for this league, or or even too good at times. But there's a lot that's happened and we just wanted a new start, didn't we? But we'll see. We shall see. DC says, I just cannot understand what the vision was this summer. We've built a team full of young, but weak players who turn up every game to get bullied by teams of grown men. We are not built for this league. Maybe that's why Walt's in there. We'll we'll see. Boo's Funny Away End says Leicester Extra, this was poor, but we knew that this was coming. and then a few more comments, a f a few interesting ones actually, about Kangas Niami. Where is he? Britich being kept out by Reed is is interesting. also Josco's he's not going to get sacked before the break, so we just have to hope he uses it well and we go on a good run after it. we have back-to-back home games against two of the bottom four, and then Bromley away. Win all three, nothing else. And again, we do have a good run, but that's why it was key to carry another win into that what looks a good run on paper. Now, Replying to Daniel Lorm's comment saying it was not really anything to do with Russell Martin, was Louis Maisie who says, True, City were wasteful up top and some passages of play were extremely promising and pleasing on the eye, like the goal. But what shouldn't go unnoticed was how all Barnes's came attempts came about. They didn't cut his open with t quality or tactical nowus. They were just gifts from our style of play. And I really, really like that comment from Louis. I think that's a a really good comment. It sums up Leicester. Barnsley were not good enough to cut open Leicester. It was all because of our sloppy play at the back. And it's all very well playing that football. It's all very well. But don't do it in dangerous areas or if there's if there's any danger whatsoever or you've got to play but you've got to be sensible, especially when you're one nil up as well. Against ten men, why make that short pass, Sohora? Or why n think that you have to make that short pass? It was again, if you lose it, then you know you're gonna get caught out. And it was poor from the keeper as well. Now, get Carter, he says again about Walt Vass. Eight managers in a row have put faith in Walt Vass, a const a constantly unreliable defender whose unpopularity with fans has reached spectacularly low levels. He is merely using us to keep fit. unfortunately defending has been so bad. Martin feels that he needs to change it up. Absolutely. And also Sean Sweeney does mention about the transfer window, which we all said was good. No Doyle, Brisych, McFarland or Kangas Naomi. Remember when everyone was raving about the summer transfer window? Yes, absolutely. And of course you've got the the the shouting at the fans and and people were saying that that, you know, Russell walked down the tunnel, etc. Well he walked down by the side of the pitch because of course that's where you have to go at at Barnes if they come out near the away fans. But he's being shouted and sworn at by Leicester fans. Did he wave and clap? Well Would you if you had that? Charlie Carmichael. Hello Charlie, friend of the podcast. terrible result, looked in control and on top until the sending off, which perversely tipped the scales in Barnsley's favour. Patches of nice play and got us in some good positions, but woeful end product cost us particularly from Watson and Manish Basing. Leicester Cities unable to beat ten man Barnsley for sixty minutes. That ninety point target from promotion looks a lot tougher after that. Now we've got a three week wait to reflect on a measly nine From seven games. And that's kind of where we finish with those comments. I'll I'll I'll finish with the one, and that's from the Yorkshire Post, actually. and the Yorkshire Post with Tom Coates, and obviously he covers it for Barnsley. and ten man Barnsley valiantly battled their way to a one-one draw with Leicester City, despite seeing less than twenty-five percent of the ball. Russell Martin's Fox's dominated possession at Oakwell, but A equaliser and they they call it a a brilliant finish, which I suppose it was, host put from the host, levelled shortly after the hour mark, and Leicester's late attacks did not yield a winner. And then it kind of concentrates on on Barnsley and how they they withheld Leicester, but they do mention it was chance after chance after chance, and on another day it could have been three, four, or five. Frustrating. Very, very frustrating. But the one thing that we know for sure is that over the international period, head to for fox ache.news, we've got you covered. We've got plenty more podcasts coming your way as well, but plenty on the website for fox.news. That's it for headlines. The headlines, again, very disappointing. A lot of comments on social media. Again, very disappointing. But that's what we cover here on headlines. We don't write them. It's Leicester. We write the columns and the articles on for foxa.news. Head there right now. And keep your chin up, everyone. And also get down to King Power on Tuesday because I think they could they could do with a few, because I think it's going to be a very, very small attendance.
