00:00:02.399 --> 00:00:10.800
I know that many of us are going through hard things right now, or witnessing loved ones or others around us going through hard things.
00:00:10.960 --> 00:00:17.600
And I wanted to just assure you that you're not alone and that I've been going through hard things too.
00:00:17.839 --> 00:00:29.120
Things that I can't always share here, but what I do want to share is what has been helping me through and what I've been witnessing in the circles of my life.
00:00:29.839 --> 00:00:41.679
And it's really just people carrying big things, sometimes quietly, because sometimes as parents, we're carrying things that our children are navigating.
00:00:41.920 --> 00:00:48.640
And they're not things that we can really share, but they're things that we're having an experience with too.
00:00:49.520 --> 00:00:52.799
A lot of us are going through uncertainty, a lot of us are going through change.
00:00:52.960 --> 00:01:06.959
A lot of us maybe are walking through life with aging parents, new stages of marriage, new stages of parenting, health, work, things, a lot of things that we just can't control.
00:01:07.519 --> 00:01:19.040
And that's why I wanted to have this conversation today, because we often, most time, most of the time, don't get to choose the hard things or the circumstances of our life.
00:01:19.200 --> 00:01:22.640
But we can choose how we walk through them.
00:01:22.879 --> 00:01:25.760
And that's the thing that can make all the difference, right?
00:01:26.159 --> 00:01:33.439
I keep coming back to something that I heard this week is that God gave us a process to work our life out.
00:01:34.000 --> 00:01:36.719
And I'm going to say more about that in a minute.
00:01:36.959 --> 00:01:57.599
But it really struck me and it reminded me of when God called me to write 20 plus years ago, and he met me on the pages of my journal in a season of just surviving as a new mom, navigating new terrain, new hard and wonderful things as a brand new mama.
00:01:58.400 --> 00:02:03.359
And I listened, I write, I started writing, and I've never stopped.
00:02:03.439 --> 00:02:13.840
And here's why: because it became a place where I could calm my mind, get perspective, and find an action that felt purposeful.
00:02:14.639 --> 00:02:18.800
It was so different than feeling trapped by my circumstances.
00:02:19.039 --> 00:02:23.199
And I began repeating this in my life over and over and applying it all over.
00:02:23.360 --> 00:02:26.400
And it's been so impactful.
00:02:26.479 --> 00:02:30.479
And I've been guiding others and teaching others to do that for the last 20 years.
00:02:30.560 --> 00:02:39.039
And when I heard that God gives us a process to work out our life, this has been a process that God led me to to work out my life.
00:02:39.599 --> 00:02:44.240
God met me on the pages of my notebook and He will meet you there too.
00:02:44.479 --> 00:02:48.800
I think sometimes we can make writing more complicated than it needs to be.
00:02:49.039 --> 00:02:51.120
Remember, it's not about being a writer.
00:02:51.199 --> 00:02:53.280
It's not about even enjoying writing.
00:02:53.360 --> 00:02:55.680
It's not about having beautiful words.
00:02:55.919 --> 00:02:59.039
It's not about knowing what to write before you sit down.
00:02:59.280 --> 00:03:03.199
It's really just a place you can bring your actual life.
00:03:03.439 --> 00:03:17.280
The messy thoughts, the things you're grappling with, the things that you're grasping for control around, the fears, the gratitude, the questions that you don't have answers to.
00:03:18.080 --> 00:03:24.319
It's a place to work out the things instead of letting it all spin in your head.
00:03:24.800 --> 00:03:27.599
So the thing that I heard was uh from Dr.
00:03:27.759 --> 00:03:28.800
Lee Warren.
00:03:29.039 --> 00:03:36.080
He has a podcast, and he's a neurosurgeon who is blending science and faith.
00:03:36.240 --> 00:03:39.599
And I learned so much from him every time I hear him.
00:03:39.919 --> 00:03:43.520
And on this particular day, he said this.
00:03:44.240 --> 00:03:51.199
He said, Your brain listens to what your mind tells it to focus on and calls it into existence.
00:03:51.520 --> 00:03:58.960
And then he said, which is why over and over again in the Bible, Jesus says, believe and you will receive.
00:03:59.520 --> 00:04:09.280
Then he said, This is about having faith to believe that God has given you a process to work out your life.
00:04:09.840 --> 00:04:16.959
And God wants to help you do that in more ways than you can ask or imagine.
00:04:19.120 --> 00:04:21.279
Just sit with that for a minute.
00:04:21.439 --> 00:04:23.199
That blew me away.
00:04:24.000 --> 00:04:27.680
What if we're not supposed to have it all figured out in our heads?
00:04:27.839 --> 00:04:44.000
What if part of navigating our lives is making enough space to get quiet, see and hear, to ask better questions, to remember what's true, to see what we couldn't see when we were moving so fast.
00:04:45.120 --> 00:04:47.120
So guess what?
00:04:47.439 --> 00:05:00.560
The hard part of this, the but the must-do part that I am finding to be so true is that we have to surrender to the mind, to the to-do list, to the busyness, to the constant need to be moving and doing.
00:05:01.360 --> 00:05:03.680
Writing slows you down.
00:05:04.720 --> 00:05:10.399
Sometimes the next thing isn't to do more, contrary to what your brain wants you to think.
00:05:10.879 --> 00:05:20.720
The next thing most often is just getting quiet enough to see what's actually needed in this moment and being reminded of this again and again.
00:05:20.959 --> 00:05:27.439
The urgent things will be there, the emails will keep coming, the list will continue to grow.
00:05:27.680 --> 00:05:41.120
And sometimes navigating hard things well looks less like figuring it all out and more like remembering what matters and who you're to be while you're walking through it.
00:05:41.439 --> 00:05:49.920
This week a loved one called in the middle of the week and the work day, and my brain was freaking out, feeling like, oh my gosh, I have too much to do, not enough time.
00:05:50.160 --> 00:05:55.519
But my mind and heart loudly said, This is the most important thing you can do right now.
00:05:55.759 --> 00:06:01.199
I walked away from my desk and what I was doing, had such a good, good conversation.
00:06:01.680 --> 00:06:03.279
I will never regret this.
00:06:03.519 --> 00:06:10.000
The to-dos waited, and I returned to them with more love and more energy to put into it.
00:06:10.800 --> 00:06:15.120
So, friend, maybe there's something here that you needed to hear today, too.
00:06:15.360 --> 00:06:24.399
Remember to call out the lies that keep you in the grind and look for the perfect interruptions that actually maybe aren't interruptions at all.
00:06:24.639 --> 00:06:32.399
They're invitations to carve out what matters most and to get the fuel that you need to keep going.
00:06:32.639 --> 00:06:38.000
Speaking of interruptions, I want to invite you to a few things.
00:06:38.160 --> 00:06:44.480
