I'm glad we're finally able to do this.
00:01:54.826 --> 00:01:56.250
So thank you for being on.
00:01:56.250 --> 00:01:59.971
And people that don't know you, why don't you tell us a little bit more about yourself?
00:02:00.634 --> 00:02:07.403
uh, thank you for inviting me on today, michael, and uh, congratulations on the amazing work you've been doing this podcast.
00:02:07.403 --> 00:02:11.862
I saw you know your recent milestones it's just growing and growing and the impact you're creating.
00:02:11.862 --> 00:02:16.944
So, um, you did the work, but I'm glad I could uh give you a little bit of guidance along the way.
00:02:16.944 --> 00:02:20.439
So congratulations on that and it's uh great to be on here today.
00:02:20.439 --> 00:02:24.808
Um, so, yeah, michael, uh gave a good introduction to me there.
00:02:24.808 --> 00:02:29.347
So, yeah, essentially, I'm very into podcasting.
00:02:29.347 --> 00:02:36.787
Having got to, so I love being able to go out there and just share things I'm interested in, what I'm passionate about.
00:02:37.889 --> 00:02:40.342
It started off as a self-esteem and confidence mindset.
00:02:40.342 --> 00:02:45.683
You know, just going through quite a lot of challenges myself, and that area is never done, by the way.
00:02:45.683 --> 00:02:48.288
It's always an ongoing process to work on.
00:02:48.288 --> 00:02:53.206
Like life comes in a way and gives us a good workout, uh, from time to time.
00:02:53.206 --> 00:02:55.713
Um, but, yeah, I I started from that.
00:02:55.713 --> 00:03:02.066
Uh was able to because I went through quite a lot of deep things and just share my challenges on the podcast.
00:03:02.066 --> 00:03:09.925
And, yeah, recently, last year, 2024 and 2025 now aren't we?
00:03:10.025 --> 00:03:15.521
I started the Men's Mental Health and Growth Podcast because I wanted to go particularly at guys from.
00:03:15.521 --> 00:03:24.837
You know what I'd gone through as a guy and I knew there were guys I knew that had gone through challenges, so just made a bit more of a directed uh podcast.
00:03:24.837 --> 00:03:28.667
But yeah, outside of that, I'm very passionate in the personal growth space.
00:03:28.667 --> 00:03:30.951
Um, I always saw what is like.
00:03:30.951 --> 00:03:33.304
Why wouldn't I want to grow myself and develop myself?
00:03:33.304 --> 00:03:51.349
It's just really exciting getting to build yourself and, yeah, like to share and, uh, my recent passion has been in breath work, just because it's a lot, quite a lot more for me than, uh, the basic mindset stuff and then coming across joseph psychology, um, and then going deep into breathwork.
00:03:51.349 --> 00:03:54.704
So, yeah, that's a little bit more about me absolutely.
00:03:54.743 --> 00:03:55.544
Thanks for sharing that.
00:03:55.544 --> 00:04:01.020
And and you know people, how do I say this?
00:04:01.020 --> 00:04:04.466
So a lot of people don't realize the work that really goes into it.
00:04:04.485 --> 00:04:10.055
We'll dive into this, but you know, it's, it's little, little steps, little things like that.
00:04:10.055 --> 00:04:11.784
That we, we grow as people.
00:04:11.784 --> 00:04:14.331
Usually it's from from life lessons A lot of it is.
00:04:14.331 --> 00:04:23.836
But then going to the breath work and the psychology and, of course, joseph MacLennan, the thirds um, you know portion of that it really takes it to a whole different level.
00:04:23.836 --> 00:04:28.487
It makes it simplified, right yeah, absolutely it's um.
00:04:30.011 --> 00:04:39.685
I mean, for me there's when I first got into personal growth, it was, you know, you follow like sort of like the toady robbins and try to like work on myself, get myself into a more positive way of thinking.
00:04:39.685 --> 00:04:43.218
I listen to a very, a very popular podcast of rob dahl.
00:04:43.218 --> 00:04:45.427
I listen to his a lot, which is really really good.
00:04:45.427 --> 00:04:49.689
Uh, the mindset mentor and and yeah, it was that they.
00:04:49.689 --> 00:04:54.065
The thing they did really well was make things really simple, um, and I really really liked it.
00:04:54.065 --> 00:04:56.350
Um, and then I joseph came.
00:04:56.350 --> 00:05:06.134
I came into joseph's work and he keeps things very simple but with maximum impact, and I should be saying with a maximum impact at the same time.
00:05:06.134 --> 00:05:24.142
And then, yeah, the breath work really, even how they teach it and how I did it myself was very simple and very like profound on kind of the impacts it made on me to work with the body connection as well as just what was going on in my mind as well.
00:05:26.163 --> 00:05:28.165
So let's talk about your journey.
00:05:28.165 --> 00:05:33.649
If we will, I mean what we all have things to work on, if we're real with ourselves.
00:05:33.649 --> 00:05:35.031
So, um, what?
00:05:35.031 --> 00:05:39.475
What kind of got Johnny saying you know, I want something more, I want something different?
00:05:39.475 --> 00:05:42.357
It started down this journey to start with.
00:05:46.959 --> 00:05:54.324
Yeah, I can try not go for the whole lifeline, but yeah, some of the the defining moments, uh for me, uh, what kind of got me into the whole like wanting to work on myself?
00:05:54.324 --> 00:05:58.358
I guess there were likes I could see it in myself but I wasn't aware of it.
00:05:58.358 --> 00:06:08.934
Like through my life I'd be like, oh, that's really interesting, like this, like self-development stuff, like in work or school, um, and I wasn't bad academically either, you know I wasn't.
00:06:08.934 --> 00:06:11.702
You know I'm not gonna say I really struggle or anything I did.
00:06:11.702 --> 00:06:18.406
I worked really really hard and that's always one thing I've been consistent on working really really hard, um.
00:06:19.608 --> 00:06:31.216
But yeah, like I got into about 28 around 2018 and I just wanted to write a book and I came across a mentor who was helped me write a book, um, and that was a real passion of mine.
00:06:31.216 --> 00:06:47.584
But she actually introduced me into this whole how you can work on yourself, this live coaching thing, and I started exploring live coaching a little bit and then I had a year and I went through some real challenging 2019, like career, sort of relationships, sort of dating stuff.
00:06:47.584 --> 00:07:04.432
It really got me into this kind of like low point and when I was like right, I need to really ramp up this self-esteem work, because confidence it for me like people got this different definitions is your ability, your belief in yourself to do a certain thing.
00:07:04.432 --> 00:07:09.963
Um, now I I was confident in many things, like public speaking.
00:07:09.963 --> 00:07:19.793
I actually was terrified of it at one point, but I built up the skill by just like doing it again and again and again and doing certain things right.
00:07:19.793 --> 00:07:21.702
That's one of my strong passions.
00:07:21.702 --> 00:07:27.588
It's like I just they let people let their self-talk get in the way and it's just I built confidence in that.
00:07:27.588 --> 00:07:32.324
But I still had this really low self-esteem and I just wasn't building that muscle at all.
00:07:32.324 --> 00:07:33.509
It was really poor talk.
00:07:33.509 --> 00:07:39.406
So it's just like courage to push myself through things to a point where I was like I've got to change this round.
00:07:39.560 --> 00:07:41.081
So I did all I could to really work on my self-esteem and confidence.
00:07:41.081 --> 00:07:43.103
And I did all I could to really work on my self-esteem and confidence.
00:07:43.103 --> 00:07:49.829
And again, like I say, it's not perfect now, it's never going to be perfect, but you know it's a lot better and I'm always working on it.
00:07:49.829 --> 00:07:56.115
And I started going out there and sharing on the podcast and coaching people as well.
00:07:56.115 --> 00:07:59.016
People were coming to me and it's interesting.
00:07:59.016 --> 00:08:07.682
I get all sorts of clients from it as well.
00:08:07.682 --> 00:08:11.413
It's just, like, you know, know like middle-aged women, directors to young lads, and yeah, it's really, really cool to help a mix of people.
00:08:11.432 --> 00:08:35.830
And what I really found, though, was I'm doing all this work, and then, sometimes, life comes in and goes like right, I really want to test you now and then, like, I always think life is an emotional workout, and I always think the emotional workout that I do every day is as important as the physical workout, so it's like I always train my mind every day, and then I'm always trying to train my body in some kind of way.
00:08:35.830 --> 00:08:40.471
Like I've just been on a hardcore interval session before this as well, actually.
00:08:40.471 --> 00:08:43.768
And then what I found, though?
00:08:43.799 --> 00:09:07.210
I went through a couple of tough years around 2022, and actually I was like doing this some of the mind stuff, and I had some great tools from joseph, but I was like feeling there are still some blocks, and I just discovered breath work from just hearing, listening to people, and what that did was really go deeper into the body and feel into the emotions that needed, needed to be released.
00:09:07.210 --> 00:09:12.480
Um, so, for me, that was uh, that was discovering breath work, and now?
00:09:12.480 --> 00:09:19.124
Then I became a practitioner because of my passion and I'm able to offer that to people now fantastic man.
00:09:19.244 --> 00:09:37.942
So you know it's interesting and the stories are different, but the patterns are very similar, right, and when we, when we're coaching with people, we see that I'm very much a pattern guy and I study those, and when the real leverage happens for yourself, I'm not going to deal with this anymore.
00:09:38.034 --> 00:09:39.181
I don't want to deal with this anymore.
00:09:39.315 --> 00:09:40.580
That's when the real growth happens.
00:09:40.580 --> 00:09:42.004
You know right, you agree with that.
00:09:42.835 --> 00:09:43.860
I, yeah, I agree with that.
00:09:43.860 --> 00:09:48.701
And one thing I've I've reached this year like I've even recently joined a mastermind.
00:09:48.701 --> 00:09:53.365
I've got some very you know, sort of like Tony Robbins, plats and all kind of members.
00:09:53.365 --> 00:10:03.381
I'm not a plat, but you know, by being surrounded by that kind of thinking, you know it always impacts you.
00:10:03.381 --> 00:10:12.187
But one thing we've kind of we're talking about and I've realized I've done it without even realizing it before is that, yeah, there can be that level of pain and it's like, no more, not another day, I've got to change this.
00:10:12.187 --> 00:10:13.998
And then that causes you.
00:10:13.998 --> 00:10:17.785
Well, I've been in places where it's like, uh, I'm not.
00:10:17.785 --> 00:10:20.751
So you know I'm not happy with this, but you know it's not that bad, oh, it's okay.
00:10:20.721 --> 00:10:34.352
Today, yeah, it's like, uh, I'm not, so you know I'm not happy with this, but you know it's not that bad, oh it's okay, today yeah, it's like, oh, I hate this, but it's not that painful, but it's like I've got a little bit better, maybe a job use example, um, but yeah, like what we were talking.
00:10:34.352 --> 00:10:42.423
What we've been talking about is actually you can condition yourself to find the pain, even though it's like why do you want to put yourself in so much pain to get you to move?
00:10:42.423 --> 00:10:50.611
So look at past, present and future, and I know there's a tony robbins dickens process that I actually changed my beliefs as well around things.
00:10:50.611 --> 00:10:53.360
It's like what these beliefs cost you the past, present and future.
00:10:53.360 --> 00:11:07.456
So, yeah, I, I what I've realized is you can actually consciously manufacture that pain as well, if you choose to, to get you to move yeah, when you're, when you put an intent on something, it's amazing what, what comes out of it.
00:11:07.736 --> 00:11:12.065
You know yeah, so then the process is powerful, that's for sure.
00:11:12.806 --> 00:11:17.783
Um, so, if we can, let's, let's actually, before we dive into this, I always forget this.
00:11:17.783 --> 00:11:19.128
I always get excited.
00:11:19.128 --> 00:11:24.384
I'm talking, I'm loving just being with the guests, so let me do this really quick.
00:11:24.384 --> 00:11:25.970
I always point the wrong way too.
00:11:26.432 --> 00:11:29.942
On the top right hand corner of your screen there's a bleep QR code.
00:11:29.942 --> 00:11:31.004
Please scan that.
00:11:31.004 --> 00:11:34.081
It takes you to empowerperformancestrategiescom.
00:11:34.081 --> 00:11:41.166
For people listening on the podcast forums later Again, empowerperformancestrategiescom has all kinds of resources free e-books.
00:11:41.166 --> 00:11:41.836
I've written.
00:11:41.836 --> 00:11:45.225
There's groups for veterans and their families on Facebook.
00:11:45.225 --> 00:11:46.875
Be part of the community, you know.
00:11:46.875 --> 00:11:49.422
Go on there, check that out and join us on the mission.
00:11:49.422 --> 00:11:59.139
All right, so let's get back to this Sorry about that, johnny and stay tuned to the end because Johnny Pardo is going to give us three tips to get veterans and their families further fast.
00:11:59.721 --> 00:12:01.426
All right, how's that for a pattern?
00:12:01.426 --> 00:12:06.063
Interrupt let's get into breath work.
00:12:06.063 --> 00:12:19.403
So, with breath work and I'm just kind of starting to get into this and I was super excited to get you on here to talk about this as well so what started?
00:12:19.403 --> 00:12:21.009
Where did you start with breath work?
00:12:21.009 --> 00:12:21.572
Was there?
00:12:21.572 --> 00:12:30.178
You know, I know there's different breath exercises to do different things right for calm or energy, for many different things.
00:12:30.178 --> 00:12:37.480
So talk a little bit about that, if you will, and kind of some of the things that you use yeah, sure I'll, um, I'm always very honest.
00:12:37.539 --> 00:12:43.206
I'm not not like 10 year, like master of all all the kinds of breaths or anything like that in the world.
00:12:43.206 --> 00:12:48.020
You know what I do, buddy, but yeah, I can just share that with you in case.
00:12:48.020 --> 00:12:52.171
Yeah, maybe we'll be there Breath work guru one day.
00:12:52.171 --> 00:12:54.879
But yeah, it's for me it was very much.
00:12:54.879 --> 00:13:08.100
There's different types out there you might've come across you know, you got your, like your Wim Hof, um, which is most people are familiar with.
00:13:08.100 --> 00:13:09.164
Wim Hof can't assume everyone, but majority of people.
00:13:09.184 --> 00:13:25.327
I I say Wim Hof to know who Wim Hof is, um, and Wim Hof created a sort of breathing technique to be able to uh deal with high stressful situations, ie mostly cold water, uh, or cold water showers, or jumping into the ice and just his swim shorts in like the coldest country in the world or wherever he's gone.
00:13:25.327 --> 00:13:31.287
But yeah, like, wim Hof's got like a breathing technique to sort of like deal with like those stresses.
00:13:31.287 --> 00:13:35.219
And there's all sorts of different types of breathwork.
00:13:35.219 --> 00:13:37.402
You might have come across box breathing.
00:13:37.402 --> 00:13:47.668
Uh, that's a very common one used by navy seals that they've used in terms of keeping themselves calm, again in very stressful situations.
00:13:48.429 --> 00:13:54.749
As navy seals, you know they're going to be obviously facing on a very pretty regular basis, I'd imagine, um.
00:13:54.749 --> 00:14:14.636
But there's also a technique I'm just maybe a few here called holotropic um, and that's a very like deep dive into your like subconscious and your body, um, and that's like a three-hour session where you go really, really intense um, and actually it allows you to see where maybe some blocks and release some things in your body.
00:14:14.636 --> 00:14:16.600
Uh, don't do it standing up.
00:14:16.600 --> 00:14:24.760
They always recommend uh, because you may pass out from how much you're going to be breathing and how deep disclaimer disclaimer right now.
00:14:25.361 --> 00:14:31.840
Yeah yeah, I'm not a holotropic uh practitioner anyway, but those are a few.
00:14:31.840 --> 00:14:43.557
But the one I've done um and I've certified in and I've been like learning about in the last like two, three years, is somatic breath work and I'm a somatic breath practitioner.
00:14:43.557 --> 00:14:46.023
Uh, they're quite a big uh company.
00:14:46.023 --> 00:14:47.046
I know both of the founders.
00:14:47.046 --> 00:14:48.897
I've interviewed both the founders as well.
00:14:48.897 --> 00:15:12.100
They're great guys uh yeah, and sort of in their early 30s but they've they've kind of like mastered it, uh like over different modalities, uh, that they've been through like body work, breath work, and what somatic breath work really is about is being able to connect with your body, but the emotions within your body as well, by using the breath.
00:15:12.100 --> 00:15:14.446
Um, and they've got different ways.
00:15:14.446 --> 00:15:27.697
They've got like the daily practices that we've got a free you well, they've got a free YouTube channel that I can give anyone just to go on and you can just daily 10 minutes, you know, calm yourself down, be nice and focused for the day.
00:15:27.697 --> 00:15:50.419
But there's also the longer sessions that as a practitioner or other practitioners we lead and you wouldn't do them more than once a week, probably every once, every two weeks and then when you've really worked through your emotions probably less than that and what that's designed to do is really bring up some of those emotions that have been stored in your body.
00:15:50.500 --> 00:16:02.979
As we go through life, we like store things in our body like stress, like anxiety, certain traumas that we've gone through, uh, certain memories that we don't even know there, and a lot of the even.
00:16:02.979 --> 00:16:08.119
Like I'm a big fan of joe dispenser as well, um, love to go to one of his events one day, um.
00:16:08.119 --> 00:16:13.475
But like our body has a lot of sub, it's got a lot of our subconscious in it as well.
00:16:13.475 --> 00:16:15.578
And what breath?
00:16:15.578 --> 00:16:24.100
Using the breath in a certain technique, it allows you to see, it allows you to release, it allows you to really communicate with your body.
00:16:24.100 --> 00:16:40.182
When we can be busy day to day in our mind, just like going, going, going, when actually our bodies are very intelligent thing, so somatic breath works is a great way to connect to that intelligence that is the body can I ask you um super interesting.
00:16:40.202 --> 00:16:45.169
First of all, um I want to ask you the science behind it.
00:16:45.169 --> 00:16:45.775
Just a little bit.
00:16:45.796 --> 00:16:48.126
We don't have to get super deep yeah time wise.
00:16:48.187 --> 00:16:52.860
But you know, for someone that's going, yeah, what the is he talking about?
00:16:52.860 --> 00:17:01.244
What, what, um, what's going on with the body, and so on, that actually helps with this happen yeah.
00:17:01.283 --> 00:17:02.956
So what's going on with the?
00:17:02.956 --> 00:17:11.700
The body is you're just like you're breathing into, so it's breathing in a certain way, and it's got like two parts in these longer journeys.
00:17:11.700 --> 00:17:17.638
So you've got like the second part's the repattern phase and the first part is the clearing phase.
00:17:17.638 --> 00:17:26.259
Now what you're doing is breathing in a certain way that activates the sympathetic nervous system.
00:17:26.259 --> 00:17:27.604
In the first part.
00:17:27.604 --> 00:17:37.747
Now the sympathetic nervous system is like the fight or flight, the like in sort of high adrenaline, high cortisol's kind of stress mode.
00:17:38.208 --> 00:17:49.749
You that that system, if you're running away from a real life threat, an animal, someone with a weapon uh would be like in that would be fully activated right day to day.
00:17:49.749 --> 00:18:07.480
Though, uh, a lot of us get into that system because just stresses like deadlines, for example, or social media, like I'm just getting, was able on the strolling, I've limited myself now to going on certain times, but you know, trying to create, I've got to create content as well because I want to create some good in the world.
00:18:07.480 --> 00:18:15.021
But those kind of things can create our like sympathetic nerve system to go like really online as well.
00:18:15.021 --> 00:18:19.662
Even though it's not life or death, it thinks it is right, johnny.
00:18:19.682 --> 00:18:32.047
I mean literally just the thoughts that we start thinking with our brain trying to protect ourselves, or the just things we say over and over to ourselves can cause that yeah, sure, like even yeah, even like anxious thoughts.
00:18:32.366 --> 00:18:41.582
um, you know that we we've created ourselves but, yeah, we could be influenced by the external environment that usually you know might have created those thoughts.
00:18:41.582 --> 00:18:45.731
But when we're in this fight or flight, lots of things are being released.
00:18:45.731 --> 00:19:19.715
You know, as joseph teaches, as I think, so I feel so, when you think or see something or something triggers you off, it will release a certain chemical in the body and what the first part of the breathwork journey is really going into that like system to actually bring up what's in your sympathetic, in the sympathetic nervous system, so what's really been going on and you're going to be, and that's kind of like a mouth breathing to activate that, when you mouth breathe deep, that activates the sympathetic nervous system to really bring up things to the surface.
00:19:19.715 --> 00:19:20.198
Can I ask you to show an example real quick?
00:19:20.198 --> 00:19:21.409
Yeah, sure, deep, that that activates the sympathetic nervous system to really bring up things to the surface.
00:19:21.409 --> 00:19:44.874
Yeah, sure, so this would be like the first part you'd be breathing, you'd go in through the stomach, so you can't see my stomach, but I'd be going so deep through this uh belly and then up to the chest and then out like a wave.
00:19:45.153 --> 00:19:53.840
I was demonstrating that, if you're hearing me, um, so like that's really activating the sympathetic, so you're bringing up all all those things that mean stored.
00:19:53.840 --> 00:20:03.604
Um, now, some people who've done a lot of work on themselves, they may you, may or may not you everyone's got a different experience when they go through it.
00:20:03.604 --> 00:20:06.808
Like if you just gone through a lot of stuff, maybe a lot of things come up.
00:20:06.808 --> 00:20:12.181
Maybe you start crying, but maybe you could also start laughing, like anything could come up.
00:20:12.181 --> 00:20:19.203
So it's really about expressing, as human beings, we're not going to suppress or repress our emotions.
00:20:19.203 --> 00:20:26.694
Like represses, I see it as unconscious suppresses, like don't know, think about it, I don't want to think about it and you just pushing it away.
00:20:27.135 --> 00:20:30.125
Mentor express and that's really what that's doing.
00:20:30.125 --> 00:20:44.878
And then the second part of the journey is reconnecting, calming the nervous system down, going back into the parasympathetic nervous system, and that's really kind of like after you've released and brought up a lot of these.
00:20:44.878 --> 00:20:51.861
It's really just about regulating, calming yourself down, getting into like a regulated breathing pattern again.
00:20:51.861 --> 00:20:56.078
So that's how like a typical session would go, and there's some breath holds in there as well.
00:20:56.078 --> 00:21:03.898
But yeah, that's a little bit of an outline around the science on it I appreciate that and and appreciate the examples as well.
00:21:03.939 --> 00:21:16.019
For sure, um so, and really, uh, people don't realize, and I'm not going to get deep into this, but when we're stressed out, we don't belly breathe and the bigger part of our lungs is now towards our stomach.
00:21:16.019 --> 00:21:19.364
So think of a baby um's relaxed.
00:21:19.364 --> 00:21:20.846
What do you see?
00:21:20.846 --> 00:21:27.041
You see the stomach rise and then the chest, rise the stomach, and then down slowly, right, and it's calm, even breaths.
00:21:27.615 --> 00:21:37.567
So when you can get yourself in that place your nervous system does calm down and you do get into a good state of mind if you will.
00:21:37.567 --> 00:21:45.544
But just think about that baby and breathe in through your stomach first, with the rolling, like Johnny was saying, the wave coming up into your chest.
00:21:45.544 --> 00:21:52.146
It's very therapeutic just to literally train yourself to breathe that way, normal.
00:21:52.146 --> 00:21:56.085
So just a thought you were saying that it popped into my head.
00:21:56.085 --> 00:22:01.559
So breath work is used for relaxation and so forth.
00:22:01.559 --> 00:22:18.657
Can you just, you know, explain more of the psychological aspect of again, kind of what's happening with, with the mind and the psychology, not just at the time but for the, the future benefits of doing the breath work with the psychology?
00:22:20.104 --> 00:22:23.336
yeah, I, I would say with the, with the breath work.
00:22:23.336 --> 00:22:34.992
You know you can use it for relaxation, but it's also an enhancing your kind of expression of emotions and feeling things and connecting um as well to the point.
00:22:34.992 --> 00:22:43.577
But to your question, um, I also didn't mention on the second part, it's from breathing in through the nose as well when you're doing a parasympathetic.
00:22:43.577 --> 00:22:46.105
It's a different type of breathing, um.
00:22:46.105 --> 00:22:48.017
Just a couple points there I haven't mentioned.
00:22:48.057 --> 00:22:59.357
But yeah, with the, with the psychology side of things, what you can get like during your experience and connecting to your body is a lot of memories, a lot of insight.
00:22:59.357 --> 00:23:01.785
Uh, again, it's not about going with.
00:23:01.785 --> 00:23:12.866
It's going in with an intention we always suggest to people, but not an expectation, like you're going to get rid of all your traumas from like like 30 years of your life or whatever.
00:23:12.866 --> 00:23:13.429
It's like.
00:23:13.429 --> 00:23:14.571
No, it's just.
00:23:14.571 --> 00:23:17.881
It's just your body, body will show you what it needs to.
00:23:17.901 --> 00:23:30.217
Yeah, um, but yeah, with the, the psychology side of things, it's with during the journey, it's all about connecting to your body, um, and then you might get some messages, you might get some insights as well.
00:23:30.217 --> 00:23:57.564
What I, what I find with the, the psychology side, um, of what I try to talk about in my podcast and generally like to people is just making sure I'm doing the work on my psychology using stuff like I've learned from, like Joseph McClendon or Tony Robbins, um Pete or Peter Sage one of my favorites, um, and then that's very complementary to the, to the breathwork side of things.
00:23:57.564 --> 00:24:04.353
So those are kind of two parts of my triangle and then I've got a third part as well that I think are very complementary to each other.
00:24:05.054 --> 00:24:06.315
So yeah, so.
00:24:06.315 --> 00:24:06.980
So I'm sorry.
00:24:06.980 --> 00:24:08.002
What's the third part?
00:24:08.444 --> 00:24:13.057
I didn't say so, I, I, you know, yeah for the three.
00:24:13.077 --> 00:24:39.588
So for me I wasn't going to keep it secret anything but for me you know, it's not like a pardo secret anything but for me the three things that I think have really helped with like growth, mental health and generally like building better relationship myself and moving further faster are, yeah, the breath work connected or connecting to the body, you know, the work on the psychology, the ongoing thoughts of the words and pictures in my head.
00:24:40.609 --> 00:24:46.480
And then the third part is brain and or physical health, like sort of interchangeably.
00:24:46.480 --> 00:25:08.674
So what I'm consuming, what I'm like eating, if I'm giving myself the right vitamins because I've done like the breath work before, and then I've done, like you know, the right mind stuff, but even if I was, like, you know, six months like no alcohol, if I was even eating like sugar too much, it's always going to limit what I could do with the other two.
00:25:08.674 --> 00:25:14.305
So it's like a sugar makes you start going, you know, the heart going fast, you get brain fog.
00:25:14.305 --> 00:25:18.060
I'm not saying like eat perfect, I don't eat perfect, I treat myself.
00:25:18.060 --> 00:25:26.642
But if I've got like a high processed diet, for example, not looking after the brain or it's deficient in, like certain fruits, vegetables.
00:25:26.642 --> 00:25:30.509
I find that kind of caps the other two areas as well.
00:25:30.509 --> 00:25:34.443
So for me those are the the dream triangle excellent.
00:25:34.564 --> 00:25:46.669
Thank you for sharing that really, because, honestly, so many people, um, you know it's, it's multiple things play into our psychology right and the way we feel and the way we think and all that stuff.
00:25:46.880 --> 00:25:59.195
You know, getting some exercise each day and moving your body, sleep, water, doing things like breath work and so on just goes so far for your absolute, totally emotional state.
00:25:59.195 --> 00:26:02.539
Goes so far for your absolute, totally emotional state.
00:26:02.539 --> 00:26:08.880
I can't tell you how many people I know that just them starting to exercise and going for a walk for 30 or 45 minutes alone changes everything.
00:26:08.880 --> 00:26:16.848
So I'm just saying this to our audience Imagine just for a minute you do that and then you throw on a little bit of breath work.
00:26:16.848 --> 00:26:22.961
Just that two-millimeter shift drives your ship to a whole different location.
00:26:22.961 --> 00:26:41.211
So just just be thinking about those little things, that just adding on that little bit of extra things, that takes five minutes, ten minutes, whatever the case is for you, but just think about how much that can change your life in three months, six months, six years from just doing those little things I think.
00:26:41.319 --> 00:26:44.528
I think it's important they realize it's not this.
00:26:44.528 --> 00:26:46.861
Oh my gosh, I'm going to do breath work for four hours straight.
00:26:46.861 --> 00:26:49.606
Can you talk about that just a little bit?
00:26:50.288 --> 00:26:54.263
yeah, yeah, sure, I'm, I'm a big fan of habits and systems.
00:26:54.263 --> 00:27:05.528
I'm quite like left brain and I always like I'm crazy, I'm very creative as well, actually, but it's and I've got a lot more uh into like instincts and things like that.
00:27:05.528 --> 00:27:13.201
But I'm still very like logical and I like systems and I'm the kind of guy you say practice gratitude, I'll be like how many times a day, what time?
00:27:13.201 --> 00:27:14.286
Like what do I need to do?
00:27:14.286 --> 00:27:15.391
What's the right process?
00:27:15.391 --> 00:27:16.034
How long?
00:27:16.034 --> 00:27:21.982
Like I'm still that, I'm still that guy, right, but I agree and I agree with the concept completely.
00:27:21.982 --> 00:27:29.404
I just, I, just I remember someone going like I'll just be grateful and I'm like, yeah, I don't quite resonate in my brain.
00:27:29.404 --> 00:27:33.313
I agree with you, how, I'm always the how guy, basically.
00:27:33.313 --> 00:27:35.001
So, yeah, um.
00:27:35.303 --> 00:27:46.166
So for me, I always like systems and uh habits and I'm I'm guilty, I'm very guilty of just loading so many things up in the past and in my schedule.
00:27:46.166 --> 00:27:51.146
So it's like, like you were talking about the four hours of breath work is, you know, not sustainable.
00:27:51.146 --> 00:27:53.652
Like even that's probably even once a week.
00:27:53.652 --> 00:27:54.902
That's a bit intense.
00:27:54.902 --> 00:28:01.219
One session, yeah, like even just a one session, four hours, is pretty intense.
00:28:01.219 --> 00:28:10.932
I don't know, maybe some yoga mask is in the mountain or something, I don't know maybe, but like uh would you suggest like 10 minutes?
00:28:10.992 --> 00:28:16.166
I mean just to start again a little two millimeter shit what would you, what would you suggest to kind of get people started?
00:28:16.729 --> 00:28:21.550
yeah with, um, yeah, with breathwork, like I would check out like somatic breathwork.
00:28:21.550 --> 00:28:30.744
Uh, youtube channel, they got some very short videos that guide you to what to do, um, or like there's some good wim hof ones on there as well.
00:28:30.744 --> 00:28:39.909
Um, I'd say, you know, I'm gonna be a little bit biased towards the company you like, train me up, because they got some really good stuff, but the wim hof stuff's brilliant as well.
00:28:39.909 --> 00:28:45.319
So, yeah, just finding 10, 15 minute short videos where you don't have to think about it yourself.
00:28:45.319 --> 00:28:47.448
It's free on like YouTube.
00:28:47.448 --> 00:28:49.967
I definitely recommend that, yeah.
00:28:52.042 --> 00:28:52.505
So we're?
00:28:52.505 --> 00:29:01.353
We're almost out of time here, but I just wanted to ask you what are some common misconceptions that you run into that stop people from starting breathwork?
00:29:06.381 --> 00:29:09.567
Yeah, it's, it's, it's like it's the typical stuff.
00:29:09.688 --> 00:29:28.080
Really I've not really had any like it's interesting, michael, just to be honest, like people have just been quite curious by it and like trying it, um, but like the it's kind of like the typical thing is like not got the time and you know people are just busy, that kind of thing.
00:29:28.080 --> 00:29:55.167
So yeah, like for me the only reason I hadn't really started it before I did was I didn't really come, I hadn't really come across it, um, and then I guess I didn't really see like the benefit when I did do a bit and then didn't really see the benefit, so kind of only speaking about my experience and it was, but it wasn't until I did like a longer session and I consistently did it and then I really saw like the benefit as well.
00:29:55.167 --> 00:30:11.190
So it's like that instant like benefit of like oh, you know I want to feel like amazing straight away, but with anything like you go to the gym one day you don't have the body of your dreams, example uh yeah, yeah yeah, you don't come out.
00:30:11.210 --> 00:30:14.523
Look like an rl schwarzenegger from one session yeah, exactly michael.
00:30:14.544 --> 00:30:22.814
Yeah, that's probably the two main ones that you know come to mind from my own experience yeah, perfect, and I appreciate you sharing your experience, because you know we don't teach theory, right?
00:30:23.214 --> 00:30:24.498
yeah, it's what we.
00:30:24.498 --> 00:30:29.470
We go through and play with ourselves because we know it works, which is the thing about what we do.
00:30:29.470 --> 00:30:32.343
So, um, johnny, uh, how do people reach out to you?
00:30:33.484 --> 00:30:40.648
yeah, so if you want to uh, reach out about breathwork, um, you can reach me on my, my social media pages, probably the best.
00:30:40.648 --> 00:30:42.003
I'm very, very active on them.
00:30:42.003 --> 00:30:47.342
Um, like I say earlier, I don't try and do it every minute of the day, but I respond to messages.
00:30:47.342 --> 00:30:53.861
So you can find me on instagram, you can find me on facebook uh, johnny c pardo.
00:30:53.861 --> 00:30:58.951
I'm also on linkedin as well or tiktok uh, they're all the same, johnny C Pardo.
00:30:58.951 --> 00:31:12.747
And yeah, if you're curious about the breathwork as well, I've also got a dedicated page on somaticbreathworkcom and then, if you're just searching Johnny Pardo, you can find my specific page as well.
00:31:13.709 --> 00:31:14.250
Fantastic.
00:31:14.250 --> 00:31:17.563
Thank you, and I'll be checking that out as soon as I leave here.
00:31:17.563 --> 00:31:21.313
Now you know what I'm super interested in it.
00:31:21.313 --> 00:31:26.969
I know the work you've done, you've talked about it, you've been very open about it and vulnerable, which is amazing.
00:31:26.969 --> 00:31:30.106
That's made me look into it even more.
00:31:30.106 --> 00:31:32.847
So Thank you for everything you do with that.
00:31:32.847 --> 00:31:39.472
Then the last thing before we go, sir three tips to get veterans and their families further fast.
00:31:41.839 --> 00:31:44.586
I would say, coming back to my triangle, but I just uh quickly go through it again.
00:31:44.586 --> 00:32:02.875
I would say, uh, the the psychology is really, really important, like making sure you're putting, you're becoming aware of, like the words and pictures in your mind that aren't serving you, and finding ways to be with them, observe them and deal with them as you see fit.
00:32:02.875 --> 00:32:10.406
You know, I know, some people go for a lot, so some are going to be more challenging than others and then putting in as good ones as possible.
00:32:10.406 --> 00:32:21.602
Listening to good information I'm always listening to podcasts or audio books or courses on the go That'd be my first one so making sure they're good, it's good, it's good as possible for you there.
00:32:22.002 --> 00:32:24.970
The second one uh, looking after your brain health.
00:32:24.970 --> 00:32:39.736
You know it's not about being perfect, not about treating yourself to a drink or a pizza or things from time to time, but uh, just be aware I've just become aware that diet, like and nutrition, isn't just about your physical health.
00:32:39.736 --> 00:32:42.402
It's really a big impact, mentally as well, huge.
00:32:42.402 --> 00:32:46.809
So, looking after your brain, giving it what it needs as much as possible.
00:32:46.809 --> 00:32:49.922
Um, dr amon's really good on brain health.
00:32:49.922 --> 00:32:58.684
If you want someone to follow as an expert, I would suggest um, and then, and likewise with psychology, joseph mcclend, obviously.
00:32:58.684 --> 00:33:05.494
And then the third one, with just being with the body and getting and breath work is a really big one.
00:33:05.494 --> 00:33:10.880
So being able to connect with your body, whether that's breath work might be, yoga might be another modality.
00:33:10.880 --> 00:33:14.711
But yeah, that's the three tips I give.
00:33:15.580 --> 00:33:16.282
Thank you so much.
00:33:16.282 --> 00:33:18.130
Thank you so much, johnny.
00:33:18.130 --> 00:33:24.609
So you know again you know I always say this, but it's so true you know, time is the most precious resource we have as human beings.
00:33:24.609 --> 00:33:31.874
Thank you so much for spending some of that, some of your life, with us and spreading that value that you do every day.
00:33:31.874 --> 00:33:34.388
So I just want to thank you again for being here with us.
00:33:35.381 --> 00:33:36.002
Thank you, Michael.

00:00:54.810 --> 00:00:58.127
I'm super excited we have Johnny Pardo on today.

He is a top 1% podcast host and mentor my mentor as well.
00:01:03.652 --> 00:01:18.667
I'll say he helped me get this role and that's for sure and still helps, with over three million downloads across two highly impactful podcasts, which is the Self-Esteem and Confidence Mindset and the Men's Mental Health and Growth Podcast, which are both fantastic.
00:01:19.409 --> 00:01:21.433
He's a certified breathwork practitioner.
00:01:22.019 --> 00:01:43.546
He integrates breathwork and psychology to help individuals overcome challenges in health, relationships and careers Of course, we're going to dive into that a little bit today and he's passionate about empowering people to build confidence and self-love by breaking through mental and emotional blocks.
00:01:44.427 --> 00:01:53.183
So, johnnyny you know again, we've been, we've been uh, friends for a while and you've helped me so much get the podcast rolling and so on, so I'm glad we're.
00:01:53.183 --> 00:01:54.826
I'm glad we're finally able to do this.
00:01:54.826 --> 00:01:56.250
So thank you for being on.
00:01:56.250 --> 00:01:59.971
And people that don't know you, why don't you tell us a little bit more about yourself?
00:02:00.634 --> 00:02:07.403
uh, thank you for inviting me on today, michael, and uh, congratulations on the amazing work you've been doing this podcast.
00:02:07.403 --> 00:02:11.862
I saw you know your recent milestones it's just growing and growing and the impact you're creating.
00:02:11.862 --> 00:02:16.944
So, um, you did the work, but I'm glad I could uh give you a little bit of guidance along the way.
00:02:16.944 --> 00:02:20.439
So congratulations on that and it's uh great to be on here today.
00:02:20.439 --> 00:02:24.808
Um, so, yeah, michael, uh gave a good introduction to me there.
00:02:24.808 --> 00:02:29.347
So, yeah, essentially, I'm very into podcasting.
00:02:29.347 --> 00:02:36.787
Having got to, so I love being able to go out there and just share things I'm interested in, what I'm passionate about.
00:02:37.889 --> 00:02:40.342
It started off as a self-esteem and confidence mindset.
00:02:40.342 --> 00:02:45.683
You know, just going through quite a lot of challenges myself, and that area is never done, by the way.
00:02:45.683 --> 00:02:48.288
It's always an ongoing process to work on.
00:02:48.288 --> 00:02:53.206
Like life comes in a way and gives us a good workout, uh, from time to time.
00:02:53.206 --> 00:02:55.713
Um, but, yeah, I I started from that.
00:02:55.713 --> 00:03:02.066
Uh was able to because I went through quite a lot of deep things and just share my challenges on the podcast.
00:03:02.066 --> 00:03:09.925
And, yeah, recently, last year, 2024 and 2025 now aren't we?
00:03:10.025 --> 00:03:15.521
I started the Men's Mental Health and Growth Podcast because I wanted to go particularly at guys from.
00:03:15.521 --> 00:03:24.837
You know what I'd gone through as a guy and I knew there were guys I knew that had gone through challenges, so just made a bit more of a directed uh podcast.
00:03:24.837 --> 00:03:28.667
But yeah, outside of that, I'm very passionate in the personal growth space.
00:03:28.667 --> 00:03:30.951
Um, I always saw what is like.
00:03:30.951 --> 00:03:33.304
Why wouldn't I want to grow myself and develop myself?
00:03:33.304 --> 00:03:51.349
It's just really exciting getting to build yourself and, yeah, like to share and, uh, my recent passion has been in breath work, just because it's a lot, quite a lot more for me than, uh, the basic mindset stuff and then coming across joseph psychology, um, and then going deep into breathwork.
00:03:51.349 --> 00:03:54.704
So, yeah, that's a little bit more about me absolutely.
00:03:54.743 --> 00:03:55.544
Thanks for sharing that.
00:03:55.544 --> 00:04:01.020
And and you know people, how do I say this?
00:04:01.020 --> 00:04:04.466
So a lot of people don't realize the work that really goes into it.
00:04:04.485 --> 00:04:10.055
We'll dive into this, but you know, it's, it's little, little steps, little things like that.
00:04:10.055 --> 00:04:11.784
That we, we grow as people.
00:04:11.784 --> 00:04:14.331
Usually it's from from life lessons A lot of it is.
00:04:14.331 --> 00:04:23.836
But then going to the breath work and the psychology and, of course, joseph MacLennan, the thirds um, you know portion of that it really takes it to a whole different level.
00:04:23.836 --> 00:04:28.487
It makes it simplified, right yeah, absolutely it's um.
00:04:30.011 --> 00:04:39.685
I mean, for me there's when I first got into personal growth, it was, you know, you follow like sort of like the toady robbins and try to like work on myself, get myself into a more positive way of thinking.
00:04:39.685 --> 00:04:43.218
I listen to a very, a very popular podcast of rob dahl.
00:04:43.218 --> 00:04:45.427
I listen to his a lot, which is really really good.
00:04:45.427 --> 00:04:49.689
Uh, the mindset mentor and and yeah, it was that they.
00:04:49.689 --> 00:04:54.065
The thing they did really well was make things really simple, um, and I really really liked it.
00:04:54.065 --> 00:04:56.350
Um, and then I joseph came.
00:04:56.350 --> 00:05:06.134
I came into joseph's work and he keeps things very simple but with maximum impact, and I should be saying with a maximum impact at the same time.
00:05:06.134 --> 00:05:24.142
And then, yeah, the breath work really, even how they teach it and how I did it myself was very simple and very like profound on kind of the impacts it made on me to work with the body connection as well as just what was going on in my mind as well.
00:05:26.163 --> 00:05:28.165
So let's talk about your journey.
00:05:28.165 --> 00:05:33.649
If we will, I mean what we all have things to work on, if we're real with ourselves.
00:05:33.649 --> 00:05:35.031
So, um, what?
00:05:35.031 --> 00:05:39.475
What kind of got Johnny saying you know, I want something more, I want something different?
00:05:39.475 --> 00:05:42.357
It started down this journey to start with.
00:05:46.959 --> 00:05:54.324
Yeah, I can try not go for the whole lifeline, but yeah, some of the the defining moments, uh for me, uh, what kind of got me into the whole like wanting to work on myself?
00:05:54.324 --> 00:05:58.358
I guess there were likes I could see it in myself but I wasn't aware of it.
00:05:58.358 --> 00:06:08.934
Like through my life I'd be like, oh, that's really interesting, like this, like self-development stuff, like in work or school, um, and I wasn't bad academically either, you know I wasn't.
00:06:08.934 --> 00:06:11.702
You know I'm not gonna say I really struggle or anything I did.
00:06:11.702 --> 00:06:18.406
I worked really really hard and that's always one thing I've been consistent on working really really hard, um.
00:06:19.608 --> 00:06:31.216
But yeah, like I got into about 28 around 2018 and I just wanted to write a book and I came across a mentor who was helped me write a book, um, and that was a real passion of mine.
00:06:31.216 --> 00:06:47.584
But she actually introduced me into this whole how you can work on yourself, this live coaching thing, and I started exploring live coaching a little bit and then I had a year and I went through some real challenging 2019, like career, sort of relationships, sort of dating stuff.
00:06:47.584 --> 00:07:04.432
It really got me into this kind of like low point and when I was like right, I need to really ramp up this self-esteem work, because confidence it for me like people got this different definitions is your ability, your belief in yourself to do a certain thing.
00:07:04.432 --> 00:07:09.963
Um, now I I was confident in many things, like public speaking.
00:07:09.963 --> 00:07:19.793
I actually was terrified of it at one point, but I built up the skill by just like doing it again and again and again and doing certain things right.
00:07:19.793 --> 00:07:21.702
That's one of my strong passions.
00:07:21.702 --> 00:07:27.588
It's like I just they let people let their self-talk get in the way and it's just I built confidence in that.
00:07:27.588 --> 00:07:32.324
But I still had this really low self-esteem and I just wasn't building that muscle at all.
00:07:32.324 --> 00:07:33.509
It was really poor talk.
00:07:33.509 --> 00:07:39.406
So it's just like courage to push myself through things to a point where I was like I've got to change this round.
00:07:39.560 --> 00:07:41.081
So I did all I could to really work on my self-esteem and confidence.
00:07:41.081 --> 00:07:43.103
And I did all I could to really work on my self-esteem and confidence.
00:07:43.103 --> 00:07:49.829
And again, like I say, it's not perfect now, it's never going to be perfect, but you know it's a lot better and I'm always working on it.
00:07:49.829 --> 00:07:56.115
And I started going out there and sharing on the podcast and coaching people as well.
00:07:56.115 --> 00:07:59.016
People were coming to me and it's interesting.
00:07:59.016 --> 00:08:07.682
I get all sorts of clients from it as well.
00:08:07.682 --> 00:08:11.413
It's just, like, you know, know like middle-aged women, directors to young lads, and yeah, it's really, really cool to help a mix of people.
00:08:11.432 --> 00:08:35.830
00:08:35.830 --> 00:08:40.471
Like I've just been on a hardcore interval session before this as well, actually.
00:08:40.471 --> 00:08:43.768
And then what I found, though?
00:08:43.799 --> 00:09:07.210
00:09:07.210 --> 00:09:12.480
Um, so, for me, that was uh, that was discovering breath work, and now?
00:09:12.480 --> 00:09:19.124
Then I became a practitioner because of my passion and I'm able to offer that to people now fantastic man.
00:09:19.244 --> 00:09:37.942
So you know it's interesting and the stories are different, but the patterns are very similar, right, and when we, when we're coaching with people, we see that I'm very much a pattern guy and I study those, and when the real leverage happens for yourself, I'm not going to deal with this anymore.
00:09:38.034 --> 00:09:39.181
I don't want to deal with this anymore.
00:09:39.315 --> 00:09:40.580
That's when the real growth happens.
00:09:40.580 --> 00:09:42.004
You know right, you agree with that.
00:09:42.835 --> 00:09:43.860
I, yeah, I agree with that.
00:09:43.860 --> 00:09:48.701
And one thing I've I've reached this year like I've even recently joined a mastermind.
00:09:48.701 --> 00:09:53.365
I've got some very you know, sort of like Tony Robbins, plats and all kind of members.
00:09:53.365 --> 00:10:03.381
I'm not a plat, but you know, by being surrounded by that kind of thinking, you know it always impacts you.
00:10:03.381 --> 00:10:12.187
But one thing we've kind of we're talking about and I've realized I've done it without even realizing it before is that, yeah, there can be that level of pain and it's like, no more, not another day, I've got to change this.
00:10:12.187 --> 00:10:13.998
And then that causes you.
00:10:13.998 --> 00:10:17.785
Well, I've been in places where it's like, uh, I'm not.
00:10:17.785 --> 00:10:20.751
So you know I'm not happy with this, but you know it's not that bad, oh, it's okay.
00:10:20.721 --> 00:10:34.352
00:10:34.352 --> 00:10:42.423
What we've been talking about is actually you can condition yourself to find the pain, even though it's like why do you want to put yourself in so much pain to get you to move?
00:10:42.423 --> 00:10:50.611
So look at past, present and future, and I know there's a tony robbins dickens process that I actually changed my beliefs as well around things.
00:10:50.611 --> 00:10:53.360
It's like what these beliefs cost you the past, present and future.
00:10:53.360 --> 00:11:07.456
So, yeah, I, I what I've realized is you can actually consciously manufacture that pain as well, if you choose to, to get you to move yeah, when you're, when you put an intent on something, it's amazing what, what comes out of it.
00:11:07.736 --> 00:11:12.065
You know yeah, so then the process is powerful, that's for sure.
00:11:12.806 --> 00:11:17.783
Um, so, if we can, let's, let's actually, before we dive into this, I always forget this.
00:11:17.783 --> 00:11:19.128
I always get excited.
00:11:19.128 --> 00:11:24.384
I'm talking, I'm loving just being with the guests, so let me do this really quick.
00:11:24.384 --> 00:11:25.970
I always point the wrong way too.
00:11:26.432 --> 00:11:29.942

Go on there, check that out and join us on the mission.
00:11:49.422 --> 00:11:59.139
All right, so let's get back to this Sorry about that, johnny and stay tuned to the end because Johnny Pardo is going to give us three tips to get veterans and their families further fast.
00:11:59.721 --> 00:12:01.426
All right, how's that for a pattern?
00:12:01.426 --> 00:12:06.063
Interrupt let's get into breath work.
00:12:06.063 --> 00:12:19.403
So, with breath work and I'm just kind of starting to get into this and I was super excited to get you on here to talk about this as well so what started?
00:12:19.403 --> 00:12:21.009
Where did you start with breath work?
00:12:21.009 --> 00:12:21.572
Was there?
00:12:21.572 --> 00:12:30.178
You know, I know there's different breath exercises to do different things right for calm or energy, for many different things.
00:12:30.178 --> 00:12:37.480
So talk a little bit about that, if you will, and kind of some of the things that you use yeah, sure I'll, um, I'm always very honest.
00:12:37.539 --> 00:12:43.206
I'm not not like 10 year, like master of all all the kinds of breaths or anything like that in the world.
00:12:43.206 --> 00:12:48.020
You know what I do, buddy, but yeah, I can just share that with you in case.
00:12:48.020 --> 00:12:52.171
Yeah, maybe we'll be there Breath work guru one day.
00:12:52.171 --> 00:12:54.879
But yeah, it's for me it was very much.
00:12:54.879 --> 00:13:08.100
There's different types out there you might've come across you know, you got your, like your Wim Hof, um, which is most people are familiar with.
00:13:08.100 --> 00:13:09.164
Wim Hof can't assume everyone, but majority of people.
00:13:09.184 --> 00:13:25.327
00:13:25.327 --> 00:13:31.287
But yeah, like, wim Hof's got like a breathing technique to sort of like deal with like those stresses.
00:13:31.287 --> 00:13:35.219
And there's all sorts of different types of breathwork.
00:13:35.219 --> 00:13:37.402
You might have come across box breathing.
00:13:37.402 --> 00:13:47.668
Uh, that's a very common one used by navy seals that they've used in terms of keeping themselves calm, again in very stressful situations.
00:13:48.429 --> 00:13:54.749
As navy seals, you know they're going to be obviously facing on a very pretty regular basis, I'd imagine, um.
00:13:54.749 --> 00:14:14.636
But there's also a technique I'm just maybe a few here called holotropic um, and that's a very like deep dive into your like subconscious and your body, um, and that's like a three-hour session where you go really, really intense um, and actually it allows you to see where maybe some blocks and release some things in your body.
00:14:14.636 --> 00:14:16.600
Uh, don't do it standing up.
00:14:16.600 --> 00:14:24.760
They always recommend uh, because you may pass out from how much you're going to be breathing and how deep disclaimer disclaimer right now.
00:14:25.361 --> 00:14:31.840
Yeah yeah, I'm not a holotropic uh practitioner anyway, but those are a few.
00:14:31.840 --> 00:14:43.557
But the one I've done um and I've certified in and I've been like learning about in the last like two, three years, is somatic breath work and I'm a somatic breath practitioner.
00:14:43.557 --> 00:14:46.023
Uh, they're quite a big uh company.
00:14:46.023 --> 00:14:47.046
I know both of the founders.
00:14:47.046 --> 00:14:48.897
I've interviewed both the founders as well.
00:14:48.897 --> 00:15:12.100
They're great guys uh yeah, and sort of in their early 30s but they've they've kind of like mastered it, uh like over different modalities, uh, that they've been through like body work, breath work, and what somatic breath work really is about is being able to connect with your body, but the emotions within your body as well, by using the breath.
00:15:12.100 --> 00:15:14.446
Um, and they've got different ways.
00:15:14.446 --> 00:15:27.697
They've got like the daily practices that we've got a free you well, they've got a free YouTube channel that I can give anyone just to go on and you can just daily 10 minutes, you know, calm yourself down, be nice and focused for the day.
00:15:27.697 --> 00:15:50.419
But there's also the longer sessions that as a practitioner or other practitioners we lead and you wouldn't do them more than once a week, probably every once, every two weeks and then when you've really worked through your emotions probably less than that and what that's designed to do is really bring up some of those emotions that have been stored in your body.
00:15:50.500 --> 00:16:02.979
As we go through life, we like store things in our body like stress, like anxiety, certain traumas that we've gone through, uh, certain memories that we don't even know there, and a lot of the even.
00:16:02.979 --> 00:16:08.119
Like I'm a big fan of joe dispenser as well, um, love to go to one of his events one day, um.
00:16:08.119 --> 00:16:13.475
But like our body has a lot of sub, it's got a lot of our subconscious in it as well.
00:16:13.475 --> 00:16:15.578
And what breath?
00:16:15.578 --> 00:16:24.100
Using the breath in a certain technique, it allows you to see, it allows you to release, it allows you to really communicate with your body.
00:16:24.100 --> 00:16:40.182
When we can be busy day to day in our mind, just like going, going, going, when actually our bodies are very intelligent thing, so somatic breath works is a great way to connect to that intelligence that is the body can I ask you um super interesting.
00:16:40.202 --> 00:16:45.169
First of all, um I want to ask you the science behind it.
00:16:45.169 --> 00:16:45.775
Just a little bit.
00:16:45.796 --> 00:16:48.126
We don't have to get super deep yeah time wise.
00:16:48.187 --> 00:16:52.860
But you know, for someone that's going, yeah, what the is he talking about?
00:16:52.860 --> 00:17:01.244
What, what, um, what's going on with the body, and so on, that actually helps with this happen yeah.
00:17:01.283 --> 00:17:02.956
So what's going on with the?
00:17:02.956 --> 00:17:11.700
The body is you're just like you're breathing into, so it's breathing in a certain way, and it's got like two parts in these longer journeys.
00:17:11.700 --> 00:17:17.638
So you've got like the second part's the repattern phase and the first part is the clearing phase.
00:17:17.638 --> 00:17:26.259
Now what you're doing is breathing in a certain way that activates the sympathetic nervous system.
00:17:26.259 --> 00:17:27.604
In the first part.
00:17:27.604 --> 00:17:37.747
Now the sympathetic nervous system is like the fight or flight, the like in sort of high adrenaline, high cortisol's kind of stress mode.
00:17:38.208 --> 00:17:49.749
You that that system, if you're running away from a real life threat, an animal, someone with a weapon uh would be like in that would be fully activated right day to day.
00:17:49.749 --> 00:18:07.480
Though, uh, a lot of us get into that system because just stresses like deadlines, for example, or social media, like I'm just getting, was able on the strolling, I've limited myself now to going on certain times, but you know, trying to create, I've got to create content as well because I want to create some good in the world.
00:18:07.480 --> 00:18:15.021
But those kind of things can create our like sympathetic nerve system to go like really online as well.
00:18:15.021 --> 00:18:19.662
Even though it's not life or death, it thinks it is right, johnny.
00:18:19.682 --> 00:18:32.047
I mean literally just the thoughts that we start thinking with our brain trying to protect ourselves, or the just things we say over and over to ourselves can cause that yeah, sure, like even yeah, even like anxious thoughts.
00:18:32.366 --> 00:18:41.582
um, you know that we we've created ourselves but, yeah, we could be influenced by the external environment that usually you know might have created those thoughts.
00:18:41.582 --> 00:18:45.731
But when we're in this fight or flight, lots of things are being released.
00:18:45.731 --> 00:19:19.715
00:19:19.715 --> 00:19:20.198
Can I ask you to show an example real quick?
00:19:20.198 --> 00:19:21.409
Yeah, sure, deep, that that activates the sympathetic nervous system to really bring up things to the surface.
00:19:21.409 --> 00:19:44.874
Yeah, sure, so this would be like the first part you'd be breathing, you'd go in through the stomach, so you can't see my stomach, but I'd be going so deep through this uh belly and then up to the chest and then out like a wave.
00:19:45.153 --> 00:19:53.840
I was demonstrating that, if you're hearing me, um, so like that's really activating the sympathetic, so you're bringing up all all those things that mean stored.
00:19:53.840 --> 00:20:03.604
Um, now, some people who've done a lot of work on themselves, they may you, may or may not you everyone's got a different experience when they go through it.
00:20:03.604 --> 00:20:06.808
Like if you just gone through a lot of stuff, maybe a lot of things come up.
00:20:06.808 --> 00:20:12.181
Maybe you start crying, but maybe you could also start laughing, like anything could come up.
00:20:12.181 --> 00:20:19.203
So it's really about expressing, as human beings, we're not going to suppress or repress our emotions.
00:20:19.203 --> 00:20:26.694
Like represses, I see it as unconscious suppresses, like don't know, think about it, I don't want to think about it and you just pushing it away.
00:20:27.135 --> 00:20:30.125
Mentor express and that's really what that's doing.
00:20:30.125 --> 00:20:44.878
And then the second part of the journey is reconnecting, calming the nervous system down, going back into the parasympathetic nervous system, and that's really kind of like after you've released and brought up a lot of these.
00:20:44.878 --> 00:20:51.861
It's really just about regulating, calming yourself down, getting into like a regulated breathing pattern again.
00:20:51.861 --> 00:20:56.078
So that's how like a typical session would go, and there's some breath holds in there as well.
00:20:56.078 --> 00:21:03.898
But yeah, that's a little bit of an outline around the science on it I appreciate that and and appreciate the examples as well.
00:21:03.939 --> 00:21:16.019
For sure, um so, and really, uh, people don't realize, and I'm not going to get deep into this, but when we're stressed out, we don't belly breathe and the bigger part of our lungs is now towards our stomach.
00:21:16.019 --> 00:21:19.364
So think of a baby um's relaxed.
00:21:19.364 --> 00:21:20.846
What do you see?
00:21:20.846 --> 00:21:27.041
You see the stomach rise and then the chest, rise the stomach, and then down slowly, right, and it's calm, even breaths.
00:21:27.615 --> 00:21:37.567
So when you can get yourself in that place your nervous system does calm down and you do get into a good state of mind if you will.
00:21:37.567 --> 00:21:45.544
But just think about that baby and breathe in through your stomach first, with the rolling, like Johnny was saying, the wave coming up into your chest.
00:21:45.544 --> 00:21:52.146
It's very therapeutic just to literally train yourself to breathe that way, normal.
00:21:52.146 --> 00:21:56.085
So just a thought you were saying that it popped into my head.
00:21:56.085 --> 00:22:01.559
So breath work is used for relaxation and so forth.
00:22:01.559 --> 00:22:18.657
Can you just, you know, explain more of the psychological aspect of again, kind of what's happening with, with the mind and the psychology, not just at the time but for the, the future benefits of doing the breath work with the psychology?
00:22:20.104 --> 00:22:23.336
yeah, I, I would say with the, with the breath work.
00:22:23.336 --> 00:22:34.992
You know you can use it for relaxation, but it's also an enhancing your kind of expression of emotions and feeling things and connecting um as well to the point.
00:22:34.992 --> 00:22:43.577
But to your question, um, I also didn't mention on the second part, it's from breathing in through the nose as well when you're doing a parasympathetic.
00:22:43.577 --> 00:22:46.105
It's a different type of breathing, um.
00:22:46.105 --> 00:22:48.017
Just a couple points there I haven't mentioned.
00:22:48.057 --> 00:22:59.357
But yeah, with the, with the psychology side of things, what you can get like during your experience and connecting to your body is a lot of memories, a lot of insight.
00:22:59.357 --> 00:23:01.785
Uh, again, it's not about going with.
00:23:01.785 --> 00:23:12.866
It's going in with an intention we always suggest to people, but not an expectation, like you're going to get rid of all your traumas from like like 30 years of your life or whatever.
00:23:12.866 --> 00:23:13.429
It's like.
00:23:13.429 --> 00:23:14.571
No, it's just.
00:23:14.571 --> 00:23:17.881
It's just your body, body will show you what it needs to.
00:23:17.901 --> 00:23:30.217
Yeah, um, but yeah, with the, the psychology side of things, it's with during the journey, it's all about connecting to your body, um, and then you might get some messages, you might get some insights as well.
00:23:30.217 --> 00:23:57.564
00:23:57.564 --> 00:24:04.353
So those are kind of two parts of my triangle and then I've got a third part as well that I think are very complementary to each other.
00:24:05.054 --> 00:24:06.315
So yeah, so.
00:24:06.315 --> 00:24:06.980
So I'm sorry.
00:24:06.980 --> 00:24:08.002
What's the third part?
00:24:08.444 --> 00:24:13.057
I didn't say so, I, I, you know, yeah for the three.
00:24:13.077 --> 00:24:39.588
00:24:40.609 --> 00:24:46.480
And then the third part is brain and or physical health, like sort of interchangeably.
00:24:46.480 --> 00:25:08.674
00:25:08.674 --> 00:25:14.305
So it's like a sugar makes you start going, you know, the heart going fast, you get brain fog.
00:25:14.305 --> 00:25:18.060
I'm not saying like eat perfect, I don't eat perfect, I treat myself.
00:25:18.060 --> 00:25:26.642
But if I've got like a high processed diet, for example, not looking after the brain or it's deficient in, like certain fruits, vegetables.
00:25:26.642 --> 00:25:30.509
I find that kind of caps the other two areas as well.
00:25:30.509 --> 00:25:34.443
So for me those are the the dream triangle excellent.
00:25:34.564 --> 00:25:46.669
Thank you for sharing that really, because, honestly, so many people, um, you know it's, it's multiple things play into our psychology right and the way we feel and the way we think and all that stuff.
00:25:46.880 --> 00:25:59.195
You know, getting some exercise each day and moving your body, sleep, water, doing things like breath work and so on just goes so far for your absolute, totally emotional state.
00:25:59.195 --> 00:26:02.539
Goes so far for your absolute, totally emotional state.
00:26:02.539 --> 00:26:08.880
I can't tell you how many people I know that just them starting to exercise and going for a walk for 30 or 45 minutes alone changes everything.
00:26:08.880 --> 00:26:16.848
So I'm just saying this to our audience Imagine just for a minute you do that and then you throw on a little bit of breath work.
00:26:16.848 --> 00:26:22.961
Just that two-millimeter shift drives your ship to a whole different location.
00:26:22.961 --> 00:26:41.211
So just just be thinking about those little things, that just adding on that little bit of extra things, that takes five minutes, ten minutes, whatever the case is for you, but just think about how much that can change your life in three months, six months, six years from just doing those little things I think.
00:26:41.319 --> 00:26:44.528
I think it's important they realize it's not this.
00:26:44.528 --> 00:26:46.861
Oh my gosh, I'm going to do breath work for four hours straight.
00:26:46.861 --> 00:26:49.606
Can you talk about that just a little bit?
00:26:50.288 --> 00:26:54.263
yeah, yeah, sure, I'm, I'm a big fan of habits and systems.
00:26:54.263 --> 00:27:05.528
I'm quite like left brain and I always like I'm crazy, I'm very creative as well, actually, but it's and I've got a lot more uh into like instincts and things like that.
00:27:05.528 --> 00:27:13.201
But I'm still very like logical and I like systems and I'm the kind of guy you say practice gratitude, I'll be like how many times a day, what time?
00:27:13.201 --> 00:27:14.286
Like what do I need to do?
00:27:14.286 --> 00:27:15.391
What's the right process?
00:27:15.391 --> 00:27:16.034
How long?
00:27:16.034 --> 00:27:21.982
Like I'm still that, I'm still that guy, right, but I agree and I agree with the concept completely.
00:27:21.982 --> 00:27:29.404
I just, I, just I remember someone going like I'll just be grateful and I'm like, yeah, I don't quite resonate in my brain.
00:27:29.404 --> 00:27:33.313
I agree with you, how, I'm always the how guy, basically.
00:27:33.313 --> 00:27:35.001
So, yeah, um.
00:27:35.303 --> 00:27:46.166
So for me, I always like systems and uh habits and I'm I'm guilty, I'm very guilty of just loading so many things up in the past and in my schedule.
00:27:46.166 --> 00:27:51.146
So it's like, like you were talking about the four hours of breath work is, you know, not sustainable.
00:27:51.146 --> 00:27:53.652
Like even that's probably even once a week.
00:27:53.652 --> 00:27:54.902
That's a bit intense.
00:27:54.902 --> 00:28:01.219
One session, yeah, like even just a one session, four hours, is pretty intense.
00:28:01.219 --> 00:28:10.932
I don't know, maybe some yoga mask is in the mountain or something, I don't know maybe, but like uh would you suggest like 10 minutes?
00:28:10.992 --> 00:28:16.166
I mean just to start again a little two millimeter shit what would you, what would you suggest to kind of get people started?
00:28:16.729 --> 00:28:21.550
yeah with, um, yeah, with breathwork, like I would check out like somatic breathwork.
00:28:21.550 --> 00:28:30.744
Uh, youtube channel, they got some very short videos that guide you to what to do, um, or like there's some good wim hof ones on there as well.
00:28:30.744 --> 00:28:39.909
Um, I'd say, you know, I'm gonna be a little bit biased towards the company you like, train me up, because they got some really good stuff, but the wim hof stuff's brilliant as well.
00:28:39.909 --> 00:28:45.319
So, yeah, just finding 10, 15 minute short videos where you don't have to think about it yourself.
00:28:45.319 --> 00:28:47.448
It's free on like YouTube.
00:28:47.448 --> 00:28:49.967
I definitely recommend that, yeah.
00:28:52.042 --> 00:28:52.505
So we're?
00:28:52.505 --> 00:29:01.353
We're almost out of time here, but I just wanted to ask you what are some common misconceptions that you run into that stop people from starting breathwork?
00:29:06.381 --> 00:29:09.567
Yeah, it's, it's, it's like it's the typical stuff.
00:29:09.688 --> 00:29:28.080
Really I've not really had any like it's interesting, michael, just to be honest, like people have just been quite curious by it and like trying it, um, but like the it's kind of like the typical thing is like not got the time and you know people are just busy, that kind of thing.
00:29:28.080 --> 00:29:55.167
00:29:55.167 --> 00:30:11.190
So it's like that instant like benefit of like oh, you know I want to feel like amazing straight away, but with anything like you go to the gym one day you don't have the body of your dreams, example uh yeah, yeah yeah, you don't come out.
00:30:11.210 --> 00:30:14.523
Look like an rl schwarzenegger from one session yeah, exactly michael.
00:30:14.544 --> 00:30:22.814
Yeah, that's probably the two main ones that you know come to mind from my own experience yeah, perfect, and I appreciate you sharing your experience, because you know we don't teach theory, right?
00:30:23.214 --> 00:30:24.498
yeah, it's what we.
00:30:24.498 --> 00:30:29.470
We go through and play with ourselves because we know it works, which is the thing about what we do.
00:30:29.470 --> 00:30:32.343
So, um, johnny, uh, how do people reach out to you?
00:30:33.484 --> 00:30:40.648
yeah, so if you want to uh, reach out about breathwork, um, you can reach me on my, my social media pages, probably the best.
00:30:40.648 --> 00:30:42.003
I'm very, very active on them.
00:30:42.003 --> 00:30:47.342
Um, like I say earlier, I don't try and do it every minute of the day, but I respond to messages.
00:30:47.342 --> 00:30:53.861
So you can find me on instagram, you can find me on facebook uh, johnny c pardo.
00:30:53.861 --> 00:30:58.951
I'm also on linkedin as well or tiktok uh, they're all the same, johnny C Pardo.
00:30:58.951 --> 00:31:12.747
And yeah, if you're curious about the breathwork as well, I've also got a dedicated page on somaticbreathworkcom and then, if you're just searching Johnny Pardo, you can find my specific page as well.
00:31:13.709 --> 00:31:14.250
Fantastic.
00:31:14.250 --> 00:31:17.563
Thank you, and I'll be checking that out as soon as I leave here.
00:31:17.563 --> 00:31:21.313
Now you know what I'm super interested in it.
00:31:21.313 --> 00:31:26.969
I know the work you've done, you've talked about it, you've been very open about it and vulnerable, which is amazing.
00:31:26.969 --> 00:31:30.106
That's made me look into it even more.
00:31:30.106 --> 00:31:32.847
So Thank you for everything you do with that.
00:31:32.847 --> 00:31:39.472
Then the last thing before we go, sir three tips to get veterans and their families further fast.
00:31:41.839 --> 00:31:44.586
I would say, coming back to my triangle, but I just uh quickly go through it again.
00:31:44.586 --> 00:32:02.875
I would say, uh, the the psychology is really, really important, like making sure you're putting, you're becoming aware of, like the words and pictures in your mind that aren't serving you, and finding ways to be with them, observe them and deal with them as you see fit.
00:32:02.875 --> 00:32:10.406
You know, I know, some people go for a lot, so some are going to be more challenging than others and then putting in as good ones as possible.
00:32:10.406 --> 00:32:21.602
Listening to good information I'm always listening to podcasts or audio books or courses on the go That'd be my first one so making sure they're good, it's good, it's good as possible for you there.
00:32:22.002 --> 00:32:24.970
The second one uh, looking after your brain health.
00:32:24.970 --> 00:32:39.736
You know it's not about being perfect, not about treating yourself to a drink or a pizza or things from time to time, but uh, just be aware I've just become aware that diet, like and nutrition, isn't just about your physical health.
00:32:39.736 --> 00:32:42.402
It's really a big impact, mentally as well, huge.
00:32:42.402 --> 00:32:46.809
So, looking after your brain, giving it what it needs as much as possible.
00:32:46.809 --> 00:32:49.922
Um, dr amon's really good on brain health.
00:32:49.922 --> 00:32:58.684
If you want someone to follow as an expert, I would suggest um, and then, and likewise with psychology, joseph mcclend, obviously.
00:32:58.684 --> 00:33:05.494
And then the third one, with just being with the body and getting and breath work is a really big one.
00:33:05.494 --> 00:33:10.880
So being able to connect with your body, whether that's breath work might be, yoga might be another modality.
00:33:10.880 --> 00:33:14.711
But yeah, that's the three tips I give.
00:33:15.580 --> 00:33:16.282
Thank you so much.
00:33:16.282 --> 00:33:18.130
Thank you so much, johnny.
00:33:18.130 --> 00:33:24.609
So you know again you know I always say this, but it's so true you know, time is the most precious resource we have as human beings.
00:33:24.609 --> 00:33:31.874
Thank you so much for spending some of that, some of your life, with us and spreading that value that you do every day.
00:33:31.874 --> 00:33:34.388
So I just want to thank you again for being here with us.
00:33:35.381 --> 00:33:36.002
Thank you, Michael.

Appreciate it and what you're doing.
