Two For The Win - E18 - Happy Valentines Day! Sporting Innovations, Superbowl Stories & Warming Up For Spring Sports!

WEBVTT
00:00:07.647 --> 00:00:10.291
February 13th 2025.
00:00:10.291 --> 00:00:12.753
Happy pre Valentine's Day, everybody.
00:00:12.753 --> 00:00:18.204
Welcome back for another romantic and casual conversation around sports.
00:00:18.204 --> 00:00:22.821
I'm Brian with an eye and I'm Mike and we are two for the win, mike.
00:00:22.821 --> 00:00:24.564
What do we have on tonight's agenda?
00:00:24.984 --> 00:00:29.234
well, we're going to touch on the Four Nations NHL action.
00:00:29.234 --> 00:00:48.774
We're going to talk about some MLB transactions, check in with the NBA and the WNBA, see what's happening with the world of college and talk about this past week's Super Bowl and what's going on in the NFL.
00:00:49.460 --> 00:00:59.432
Man, I'll tell you what it's bittersweet as we get ready to say goodbye to the NFL for another season and welcome back basketball and baseball.
00:00:59.432 --> 00:01:22.393
But on that note, before we get started here, before we jump in too quickly, y'all, I just want to say real quick our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Dick Joron, former head coach of the Bears and the Bills, passed away this week at the age of 74.
00:01:22.393 --> 00:01:29.552
Dick was drafted by the Lions as a player in 1973 in the fourth round, 91st overall.
00:01:29.552 --> 00:01:38.174
He made the Pro Bowl in 1974 and then again, going on, later, become a head coach of both the Bears and Bills franchises.
00:01:38.174 --> 00:01:43.334
Our thoughts and prayers go out to him, his family and those communities yes, yes, I hope his family and those communities.
00:01:44.498 --> 00:01:48.691
Yes, yes, I hope his family is doing well.
00:01:48.691 --> 00:01:57.311
It's never easy losing a loved one, but switching gears and moving on to the NHL.
00:01:57.311 --> 00:02:02.632
So the NHL has come up with a solution to their All-Star game.
00:02:02.632 --> 00:02:13.447
So it used to be you just got the best players together and you just had the two teams face and it was just a fast-paced scoring game and that was the end of it.
00:02:13.447 --> 00:02:16.068
Well, they weren't really getting too many eyes.
00:02:16.068 --> 00:02:19.329
Well, the NHL has found a solution to this.
00:02:19.329 --> 00:02:30.395
So they have broken up the teams that would be the all-star teams and filled out teams based on where they're from.
00:02:30.395 --> 00:02:36.789
So we have a US team, we have a Finland team, we have a Sweden team and a Canada team.
00:02:36.789 --> 00:02:38.460
So it's almost like a mini Olympics.
00:02:38.620 --> 00:02:43.051
I was just about to say Mike, it's almost like a miniature Olympics we have going on here with hockey.
00:02:43.340 --> 00:02:48.968
Well, last night kicked off the first game, and the first game was between Canada and Sweden.
00:02:48.968 --> 00:03:00.548
Now they had a great opening ceremony, had a lot of former players and honored those former players and honored the ceremony itself.
00:03:00.548 --> 00:03:36.526
But, man, if you saw this game, at the drop of the puck, within a minute, within a minute of the game starting, canada gets a penalty or Sweden gets a penalty, putting Canada in a situation that they much I'm stumbling on my words but Canada gets their best team out there and they set up and within a minute they get a goal.
00:03:36.526 --> 00:03:40.028
So penalty, goal within a minute.
00:03:40.028 --> 00:03:43.515
So it's like oh man, is this about to be a blowout?
00:03:43.556 --> 00:03:44.280
Way to make a statement.
00:03:44.280 --> 00:03:50.550
So they get another goal and so sweden's down to one.
00:03:50.550 --> 00:03:55.905
And you know, because that first goal came off a power play that was what I was thinking, power play.
00:03:56.706 --> 00:04:04.786
So yeah they get that first goal off the power play, they get the second goal, with both teams fully, fully armed, and it just looking like, okay, sweden, what are you going to do here?
00:04:04.786 --> 00:04:05.792
And sweden gets a, gets a goal on the second goal, with both teams fully armed, and it's just looking like okay, sweden, what are you going to do here?
00:04:05.792 --> 00:04:09.469
And Sweden gets a goal on the second quarter.
00:04:09.860 --> 00:04:12.530
So it's starting to look like okay okay, it's starting to look like a game.
00:04:12.530 --> 00:04:17.312
Well, canada scores another goal to be up 3-1.
00:04:17.312 --> 00:04:19.505
And it's like all right, all right Canada.
00:04:19.505 --> 00:04:21.504
It's like enough of this, we're going to pull away.
00:04:21.504 --> 00:04:32.307
But Sweden kept fighting, kept pushing and they actually took the game into overtime, going 3-3 into overtime, with Canada finally coming away with the win 4-3.
00:04:32.449 --> 00:04:33.370
Way to go, Canada.
00:04:33.620 --> 00:04:35.848
And I'm telling you, man, this game, I watched it.
00:04:35.848 --> 00:04:38.970
It was like playoff hockey.
00:04:38.970 --> 00:04:41.747
It was so much energy in that stadium.
00:04:41.747 --> 00:04:42.689
People were loving it.
00:04:42.689 --> 00:04:46.132
You could tell both teams were in it and they were fighting hard.
00:04:46.132 --> 00:04:49.406
Nobody was taking a play off.
00:04:49.406 --> 00:04:52.132
It was fast paced and great to watch.
00:04:52.132 --> 00:05:02.988
Oh yeah, and you said, they really just dressed it up well too, as well, oh, yeah, the graphics they were putting down on the ice showing the players and putting their number on the ice before game.
00:05:03.370 --> 00:05:08.591
And they did the national anthem of both teams for their nations, Canada and Sweden.
00:05:08.591 --> 00:05:20.110
Actually, tonight, right now, we have US going against Finland and these teams are going to keep playing each other for the next nine days.
00:05:20.110 --> 00:05:22.951
We actually got two games on Saturday Telling you, if you like playoff hockey, this is 100% for you.
00:05:22.951 --> 00:05:29.247
We actually got two games on Saturday telling you if you like playoff hockey, this is 100% for you.
00:05:29.247 --> 00:05:31.644
It's the best of the best being teamed up.
00:05:32.463 --> 00:05:41.300
Check in, you won't be disappointed that sounds like a fun time and you know, hockey is just a fun sport to watch all around.
00:05:41.300 --> 00:05:48.983
Like you say, it's fast paced, they're always moving, there's always some kind of contact.
00:05:48.983 --> 00:05:54.853
Occasionally you see a fight, uh, just, it's all around good spirit.
00:05:54.853 --> 00:05:55.754
This is good.
00:05:55.754 --> 00:05:58.172
This is good for the family, this is good for the community.
00:05:58.172 --> 00:05:59.136
This is good fun time.
00:05:59.297 --> 00:06:20.050
Hockey's always been a fun pastime sport, so certainly, and obviously gaining much more popularity as we go um, well, the nba needs to really take notice of that and address their their situation with their playoffs yeah or not, playoffs with their uh, all-star game.
00:06:20.752 --> 00:06:24.021
They do have a bracket type format but it still just doesn't.
00:06:24.021 --> 00:06:27.732
It doesn't have the same kind of feel like this does with hockey.
00:06:27.732 --> 00:06:32.312
So they might want to start thinking about what they can do to dress this up a little bit better.
00:06:32.312 --> 00:06:34.024
Then they probably will.
00:06:34.024 --> 00:06:37.740
But you know, kudos to hockey for figuring it out.
00:06:37.740 --> 00:06:42.166
But moving on to MLB, we're going to hit some transactions here.
00:06:42.166 --> 00:06:50.555
So the Minnesota Twins signed Ty Francis, former first baseman with Seattle Mariners and former All-Star.
00:06:50.555 --> 00:06:52.081
So that's a good pickup for them.
00:06:52.081 --> 00:06:55.428
Hopefully on that one-year deal they'll see something good out of him.
00:06:55.769 --> 00:06:56.612
Yeah, not bad there.
00:06:56.920 --> 00:07:10.310
So the San Diego Padres signed Nick Pavetta to a four-year $55 million contract, which might be preluding them still moving Dylan Cease, adding pitchers to their starting rotation.
00:07:10.831 --> 00:07:11.271
Not bad.
00:07:11.271 --> 00:07:13.487
I was just about to ask you what you think that means for them.
00:07:14.160 --> 00:07:20.425
It could mean a move on Dylan Cease, but you never know, padres sometimes do some wild moves when you're not thinking about it and it's like, oh, wow, they got them.
00:07:20.425 --> 00:07:23.589
Some wild moves when you're not thinking about it and it's like, oh, wow, they got them.
00:07:23.589 --> 00:07:34.670
So, speaking of uh, california teams, the Dodgers have brought back Clayton Kershaw for his 18th season.
00:07:34.870 --> 00:07:35.771
Way to go, kershaw.
00:07:35.810 --> 00:07:36.471
Now Kershaw.
00:07:36.471 --> 00:07:43.562
He's going to be still recovering from surgeries so he probably won't even start pitching until June.
00:07:43.562 --> 00:07:56.127
But coming back for that 18th season, all with the Dodgers fan favorite, definitely hoping that he can strike up some magic and help them win another World Series.
00:07:56.168 --> 00:07:58.704
And go out on top Trying to run for two in a row there.
00:07:58.826 --> 00:07:59.788
Exactly exactly.
00:07:59.788 --> 00:08:02.028
And that wasn't the only player they brought back.
00:08:02.028 --> 00:08:08.290
They also brought back Kiki Hernandez, a great utility player that will serve them well.
00:08:08.290 --> 00:08:13.199
And the Angels didn't want to be shortchanged here.
00:08:13.199 --> 00:08:20.293
They signed Canley Jansen, former Dodger closer, who is now on a one-year deal with the Angels, to be their closer.
00:08:20.701 --> 00:08:21.584
That's going to help them.
00:08:22.201 --> 00:08:31.785
Yeah, he's actually the active saves leader right now, so hopefully so much needed help for the angels.
00:08:31.785 --> 00:08:33.831
Yes, they need that bullpen help and hopefully he'll be able to find that prior form.
00:08:33.831 --> 00:08:47.335
But the big move that happened just recently alex bregman, longtime houston astro, signed with Red Sox on a three-year $120 million deal.
00:08:47.559 --> 00:08:48.684
Boy way to jump ship.
00:08:49.200 --> 00:08:54.825
Well, now this brought a question because they already have Rafael Dovers, who's their third baseman.
00:08:54.825 --> 00:09:02.186
Now you had to question well, bregman's the third baseman too, they don't need two.
00:09:02.186 --> 00:09:03.109
What are they going to do with them?
00:09:03.109 --> 00:09:07.289
Well, it's already come out that he's going to move to second base for the Red Sox.
00:09:07.289 --> 00:09:13.768
So now they're going to have two really good infielders on their infield and also two really good bats.
00:09:14.019 --> 00:09:15.565
That's going to be tough to defend.
00:09:15.565 --> 00:09:17.089
That's going to be fun.
00:09:17.591 --> 00:09:17.831
Yeah.
00:09:18.139 --> 00:09:19.125
That's going to be fun to watch.
00:09:19.679 --> 00:09:21.042
Yes, it certainly will.
00:09:21.042 --> 00:09:22.224
Good pickup for the Red Sox.
00:09:22.224 --> 00:09:28.272
They've kind of had a quiet offseason, but you know, getting a good bat to add to the lineup is always a good thing.
00:09:28.852 --> 00:09:29.232
Oh yeah.
00:09:29.974 --> 00:09:33.779
So, moving on to some NBA news, do you want to hit on that?
00:09:33.779 --> 00:09:33.940
Oh yeah.
00:09:34.421 --> 00:09:39.493
Let's hit this off, you know, with an almost local favorite.
00:09:39.493 --> 00:09:42.769
You know, I know he's not local anymore.
00:09:42.769 --> 00:09:48.710
His local could be to our area, but Mr Kevin Durant, come on down.
00:09:48.710 --> 00:09:57.332
Notable Washington Commanders fan Just became the eighth member of the NBA's 30,000 career point club.
00:09:57.332 --> 00:09:59.769
Congratulations, kevin Durant.
00:09:59.769 --> 00:10:09.412
What a spectacular career this man has had to this point, just being a positive light on every team.
00:10:10.159 --> 00:10:12.484
One note to that, kevin Durant.
00:10:12.484 --> 00:10:23.532
It may have took him longer to get to that scoring milestone, but he did it in fewer games than LeBron James did.
00:10:24.341 --> 00:10:32.191
Yeah, that's notable too, and, honestly, just being the eighth player to even get there, I don't care how long your career is, there's only eight of you.
00:10:32.960 --> 00:10:34.946
Yeah, that's Hall of Fame worthy.
00:10:34.946 --> 00:10:42.966
He will be in the Hall of Fame, that's not a question and he probably will go down as one of the all-time best scorers.
00:10:42.966 --> 00:10:50.937
I mean, the guy kind of finds his shot wherever on the court, so you can't really say, hey, let's just push him out to the three-point line, he can't hit that.
00:10:51.217 --> 00:10:58.049
No, he can't hit that and honestly, just a positive personality and a good guy to have in the community all around.
00:10:58.049 --> 00:11:03.601
I mean this guy is, you know, what you call Larry Fitzgerald stand-up type of player.
00:11:03.601 --> 00:11:04.842
So I know I keep it great.
00:11:04.863 --> 00:11:11.446
Well, he's had his moments where he's, you know, been upset with people on social media, but that's about the extent of it.
00:11:11.645 --> 00:11:14.707
Yeah, man, I mean nobody judges anybody by social media.
00:11:14.707 --> 00:11:15.807
We're all monsters there.
00:11:16.207 --> 00:11:19.750
Well, I mean the Internet's undefeated man, the.
00:11:19.889 --> 00:11:24.532
Internet's undefeated and we're all going against it, so I don't judge anybody by social media.
00:11:24.532 --> 00:11:27.894
That's not the place to judge somebody, anyway.
00:11:27.894 --> 00:11:30.394
Next up, brandon Ingram and the Raptors.
00:11:30.394 --> 00:11:33.456
Three-year $120 million extension.
00:11:33.456 --> 00:11:35.417
This is big news for the Raptors.
00:11:35.417 --> 00:11:41.602
Yeah they just traded for him we literally covered this trade last week.
00:11:41.602 --> 00:11:46.970
Yeah, they literally just traded for him and now he's signing an extension, so they're really happy to have him in the building.
00:11:47.029 --> 00:11:48.312
Exactly so go Raptors.
00:11:48.351 --> 00:11:50.575
Good job, go ahead and just lock him up.
00:11:50.575 --> 00:11:55.625
I say that's a good move, honestly.
00:11:55.625 --> 00:11:56.447
And here we have.
00:11:56.447 --> 00:12:14.500
You know this may not be news to anybody, this is probably old news, but Trey Young's replaced Giannisnis in the nba all-star game due to giannis lingering left calf strain, uh, but young is averaging 23 and a half points over 49 games.
00:12:14.500 --> 00:12:25.453
Uh, for the hawks who, by the way, are 25 and 28 and kind of in the middle of the pack there uh, they lead the league with 11.4 assists per game.
00:12:25.453 --> 00:12:28.282
Uh, and the hawks are currently the ninth and east.
00:12:28.282 --> 00:12:30.807
Honestly, trey young, a big part of that push.
00:12:31.528 --> 00:12:39.414
Uh, what you got, mike so I heard an interesting take on trey young and, uh, every time I see him now I can't.
00:12:39.414 --> 00:12:41.520
I can't help but think about this.
00:12:41.520 --> 00:12:51.827
So I heard somebody say one time that Trey Young, his hair looks like when you have a lollipop and you drop it on the carpet and you pick it up.
00:12:51.827 --> 00:12:54.929
They said that's what his hair looks like.
00:12:54.929 --> 00:12:56.666
And every time I see him now.
00:12:56.686 --> 00:12:58.865
I'm like man, it really does look like that.
00:12:58.865 --> 00:13:01.448
Wow, I can't get that out of my head now.
00:13:01.448 --> 00:13:07.280
I'm glad you shared that with us, but that's.
00:13:07.280 --> 00:13:08.524
I'm glad you shared that with us, but that's cool.
00:13:08.524 --> 00:13:10.467
But anyway, opportunity for trey trey young to step in.
00:13:10.467 --> 00:13:12.432
Uh what you got there.
00:13:12.533 --> 00:13:18.669
One more thing bud so, uh, I just want to touch on this, the uh trades that happened last week.
00:13:18.669 --> 00:13:30.567
One of them, yeah, got rescinded the trade last week oh, you don't see that very often it got rescinded because the lakers medical staff said they nixed the trade.
00:13:30.567 --> 00:13:34.601
They were like they found medical issues with mark williams, now the hornets.
00:13:35.384 --> 00:14:08.950
They are like we did see this because, let me, let me put it this way if I say you have a product, you have a product, and you try to sell it to me and I say that that product is garbage and I don't really give you a reason or I can't really produce why, and now your, your product, takes a ding for that, people get mad, they want to, they want to have some retribution, because now you just said this player that they were trying to move and that they thought they were getting a bunch of players for is now damaged goods.
00:14:08.950 --> 00:14:11.883
So there's going to be more to come from that.
00:14:12.524 --> 00:14:22.303
But when the lakers missed out this, is interesting here what's that, no, I just saying in general, this is interesting how this is unfolding yes, yes.
00:14:22.384 --> 00:14:24.408
Well, I mean the lakers were quick to move on.
00:14:24.408 --> 00:14:30.408
They signed alex lynn to to a one-year deal to get that seven footer, get that big man for down low.
00:14:30.408 --> 00:14:33.961
Uh, alex lynn, he's kind of a journeyman player.
00:14:33.961 --> 00:14:36.548
Nothing really of note to really say on him.
00:14:36.548 --> 00:14:54.327
Uh, you know he's not that he's not going to produce anything for the, for the lakers, it's just, you know he's not as big as if they got mark williams I mean, he's seven feet tall yeah, I mean like they wanted a big man, that's what they got honestly, they went and got a good one in my opinion
00:14:54.688 --> 00:15:09.328
so you know this, all this trade all started because the lakers had asked luca donchett what he wanted and he said I kind of want a big man so we can get the alley-oop game going and get some rim protection down low.
00:15:09.328 --> 00:15:18.720
And if we revisit that trade, it's kind of a tale of two drastic situations.
00:15:18.720 --> 00:15:25.149
Because Luka goes to the Lakers he played his first game and he's trying to ease in minutes.
00:15:25.149 --> 00:15:27.086
But he looked okay.
00:15:27.086 --> 00:15:40.950
He did have a long transition pass to LeBron which, if you watched it, he got a big old grin on his face because he sees LeBron streaking up the court and he just throws it right to him for easy layup.
00:15:40.950 --> 00:15:44.046
But he had a big old grin on his face like, oh man, this is going to be fun.
00:15:44.046 --> 00:15:50.621
But you for easy layup.
00:15:50.621 --> 00:15:52.167
But he had a big old grin on his face like, oh man, this is gonna be fun.
00:15:52.187 --> 00:15:53.230
So but you know, fans seem to be pretty pleased there.
00:15:53.230 --> 00:15:54.394
That's another story if you go to the maverick side.
00:15:54.394 --> 00:15:55.096
So I bet they're, they're home.
00:15:55.116 --> 00:16:02.711
Oh lord, take, take us through this mike, it's going down, it's armageddon in map city so they trade luca, saying all right, he, he's injured.
00:16:02.711 --> 00:16:10.288
Often he's not in shape, we're gonna let him go on somewhere else because you know he's going to want a super max and we don't want to do the super max.
00:16:10.288 --> 00:16:21.153
And so they get Anthony Davis, who's been healthy for the last few years, but he's had some years in the past where he's been kind of injury prone.
00:16:21.153 --> 00:16:24.764
So it's like, okay, well, you said injuries, but you're picking up players that are often injury prone.
00:16:24.764 --> 00:16:26.970
So it's like, okay, well, you said injuries, but you're picking up players and often injury prone.
00:16:26.970 --> 00:16:30.919
And wouldn't you know it first game up, he is playing some darn good ball.
00:16:30.919 --> 00:16:32.823
He's a beast on both ends of the court.
00:16:32.823 --> 00:16:43.171
He's, you know, having a great, great game and he gets hurt non-contact injury and he's out of the game and he's going to be out for a few weeks.
00:16:43.171 --> 00:16:45.235
He's got an abductor strain.
00:16:45.235 --> 00:16:50.086
So they pick up the player and within the first game he gets hurt.
00:16:50.580 --> 00:17:01.712
So it's like man really, we just got him, so he's hurt, and now he's on the sidelines, being what Charles Barkley likes to call him street clothes.
00:17:02.140 --> 00:17:03.745
Because he's in his street clothes.
00:17:03.785 --> 00:17:04.690
Morning he's on the court.
00:17:04.690 --> 00:17:15.329
Dang Barkley likes to call him street clothes because he's in his street clothes morning he's on the court dang again.
00:17:15.329 --> 00:17:16.132
Anthony Davis is a great player.
00:17:16.132 --> 00:17:18.376
When healthy, you never want to have to say when healthy when you're talking about any player.
00:17:18.376 --> 00:17:19.398
Yeah, but fans of the of the Mavericks are man.
00:17:19.419 --> 00:17:21.626
It is not a good time over there.
00:17:21.626 --> 00:17:31.334
Uh, you fans even kicked out of the stadium with signs calling for Nico's firing.
00:17:32.281 --> 00:17:34.229
Yeah, literally the sign said fire, Nico.
00:17:34.359 --> 00:17:37.769
They literally are bringing signs to the stadium to fire.
00:17:37.769 --> 00:17:40.628
You know they want everybody fired.
00:17:41.140 --> 00:17:48.743
They kicked out a guy for mouthing the words fire Nico on the Jumbotron when they showed him for fan cam, you know.
00:17:49.365 --> 00:18:01.107
So it I mean it goes to show nico's not getting fired this is this is kind of eerily similar two situations.
00:18:01.127 --> 00:18:15.310
right, yeah, let refer to is one think about before the NFL season, how the Giants were playing around with Saquon and they were like, yeah, go find a deal.
00:18:15.310 --> 00:18:22.011
And he left and he played great, and then the team looked awful for doing it.
00:18:22.240 --> 00:18:23.400
And they wouldn't match the deal.
00:18:23.400 --> 00:18:26.249
Well, they tried to match the deal at the last minute, but it was done.
00:18:26.269 --> 00:18:26.851
Well, it was done.
00:18:26.851 --> 00:18:29.449
It was done because the GM handled it piss poorly.
00:18:29.449 --> 00:18:32.189
And we could say the same in this situation.
00:18:32.189 --> 00:18:40.804
You trade away the player that the fans love the most and on top of that he goes to the new team and he's playing.
00:18:40.804 --> 00:18:42.209
He's doing okay.
00:18:42.209 --> 00:18:44.122
He's easing back in his minutes, but he's playing.
00:18:44.122 --> 00:18:45.163
He's doing okay, he's easing back in his minutes.
00:18:45.163 --> 00:18:50.489
But the guy you bring in, the key piece to your trade, he goes down in the first game.
00:18:50.910 --> 00:18:52.551
They should have franchise tagged him.
00:18:52.571 --> 00:18:56.276
That's a bad look, kind of like what happened with the Giants GM.
00:18:56.276 --> 00:19:05.096
It was a bad look when he's like, yeah, go see what you can find, and then, talking with his owner, his owner goes.
00:19:05.096 --> 00:19:10.304
Man, if he goes to the Eagles, I am just going to be so furious.
00:19:10.324 --> 00:19:11.244
So that's one part of it.
00:19:11.244 --> 00:19:13.729
If I were Tom Morrow is it Tom or Jim Morrow?
00:19:13.729 --> 00:19:14.690
What's his first name?
00:19:14.690 --> 00:19:18.595
I can never remember Morrow's first name Owner of the Giants.
00:19:18.595 --> 00:19:31.346
If I were him the moment I found that out and then watching the GM all that play out in front of me because that happened in his office, I would fire him right there.
00:19:31.346 --> 00:19:31.988
He's gone.
00:19:31.988 --> 00:19:33.772
I'm sorry, bro, you're out.
00:19:34.039 --> 00:19:36.248
Oh, he's certainly not on a very.
00:19:36.248 --> 00:19:41.568
He's got a short leeway of what's going to happen if he doesn't produce something this offseason.
00:19:42.221 --> 00:19:42.442
I can't.
00:19:43.481 --> 00:19:44.707
I'm pretty sure he'll be fired.
00:19:46.019 --> 00:19:49.640
We'll get to that in a little bit though, but going back to the other side, shift back to the NBA here for a minute.
00:19:49.660 --> 00:19:53.330
Yes, going back to the other side of this Luka situation.
00:19:53.330 --> 00:20:03.262
So the other thing this reminds me of is the way the Knicks were for quite a while with their owner Now their owner.
00:20:03.262 --> 00:20:11.873
He kicked out Charles Oakley, a former NBA player for the Knicks who was a fan favorite.
00:20:11.873 --> 00:20:21.819
He kicked him out for him voicing his opinion to the owner, saying that he's disappointed about how the Knicks are playing and how the moves they're making.
00:20:21.819 --> 00:20:24.630
He was being a fan and he kicked him out.
00:20:24.630 --> 00:20:33.281
And he was even kicking fans out for for other situations similar to that, where people are like you suck, sell the team.
00:20:33.281 --> 00:20:37.029
Hey, those two kick them out yeah, you know, like that's what.
00:20:37.089 --> 00:20:52.557
It's nearly similar you what at least dan snyder didn't do, that he is no no, he just, he just let the facilities get so bad that poopy water yeah, they just oh sure and oh guardrails break and the fans fall in the field fire snyder.
00:20:52.778 --> 00:21:00.604
Okay, shit, water everywhere shit water should have been the name of his tenure it's like now.
00:21:00.604 --> 00:21:03.568
It's like the name of his album if he had a band Shitwater.
00:21:04.570 --> 00:21:06.093
See if I fix your flowing.
00:21:06.093 --> 00:21:08.201
Let it rain Anyway.
00:21:08.201 --> 00:21:10.869
Well, that's interesting how that's all playing out.
00:21:10.869 --> 00:21:20.406
And the NFL I mean the NFL, lord, the NBA heating up, you know all-star game, getting ready to come into their season.
00:21:20.406 --> 00:21:23.709
We're going to touch briefly on the WNBA.
00:21:23.709 --> 00:21:25.576
I'm sorry, we don't have terribly much.
00:21:25.576 --> 00:21:30.032
We're still trying to get into the groove, uh, with them, but we do have for them.
00:21:30.032 --> 00:21:33.442
Erica wheeler has now signed with the seattle storm.
00:21:33.442 --> 00:21:36.048
That'll be a good pickup for the storm.
00:21:36.048 --> 00:21:37.900
Congratulations, erica wheeler on that.
00:21:37.900 --> 00:21:43.148
Uh, we're gonna slinky on into some college talk here real quick, y'all.
00:21:43.148 --> 00:21:47.344
Mike, there's two things we got going on here with these next two headlines.
00:21:47.423 --> 00:21:48.208
Okay all right, what's?
00:21:48.268 --> 00:21:54.944
up and they are at opposite ends of the spectrum and no, we're not talking about shadur.
00:21:54.944 --> 00:21:57.729
Um.
00:21:57.729 --> 00:22:12.288
So first of all, and I kind of predicted this two-way player, travis Hunter is declaring for the Combine as a cornerback, which means he'll likely enter the NFL as a DB.
00:22:12.288 --> 00:22:13.811
What do you make of that?
00:22:13.811 --> 00:22:16.548
I think it's the better call to be honest with you.
00:22:17.039 --> 00:22:18.263
Well, okay.
00:22:18.263 --> 00:22:29.868
So I don't think this limits him in the ability to be an offensive player, because I mean it's been shown.
00:22:30.559 --> 00:22:31.846
They put on punt returns and kick returns.
00:22:32.781 --> 00:22:37.867
It's been shown time and time again that guys that are corners can also do other roles.
00:22:37.867 --> 00:22:39.506
I mean corners.
00:22:39.819 --> 00:22:41.586
Guys that can't catch play DB.
00:22:41.586 --> 00:22:44.900
Well, Travis Hunter can catch, travis can catch.
00:22:44.900 --> 00:22:46.086
There's a difference here.
00:22:46.941 --> 00:23:03.048
He's a two-way player who can play both sides of the ball, but in the NFL they might want him because let's face facts when you're in the NFL, you're split up into different groups for your different meetings Like you're going to go do your corners in DBs.
00:23:03.048 --> 00:23:04.932
In one meeting You're going to have your receivers.
00:23:04.932 --> 00:23:05.992
In another meeting, you're going to have your receivers.
00:23:05.992 --> 00:23:07.855
In another meeting, you're going to have your offensive line in a meeting.
00:23:08.359 --> 00:23:15.872
Everybody's going to be doing their own separate meetings at times, and then you're going to be practicing on the practice field all the things you went over in your meetings.
00:23:15.872 --> 00:23:24.130
Now, he can't be in two different meetings at the same time, but can they put in a play or two where he comes in and plays?
00:23:24.130 --> 00:23:24.611
Receiver.
00:23:24.611 --> 00:23:27.005
Sure Sure they can do that.
00:23:27.005 --> 00:23:29.727
They did the same thing with Deion back in the day.
00:23:30.619 --> 00:23:31.865
Yeah, I see.
00:23:31.865 --> 00:23:41.009
Do you remember when Gus Bradley was coach of the Jaguars and they drafted Denard Robinson, his designation officially was X Factor?
00:23:41.009 --> 00:23:49.102
I see him playing full-time on on the defense, but maybe being sprinkled into the offense.
00:23:49.603 --> 00:24:16.586
yeah, yeah, like you said I I could see that very much happening with him yeah you know, because, let's face it, if you got a guy who can kind of lock down as a corner and then maybe maybe you just need that change of pace or somebody to give a different look, or a guy to come in and just give a spark to the team once in a while when you need that catch, or you just need that guy to maybe be the distraction for that catch, you very much could use him like that.
00:24:16.759 --> 00:24:42.525
Yeah, and honestly I'll be real with you, mike, maybe he plays gunner on special teams or something, but I don't put him back as a return man because that puts him at higher risk of injury, especially with him already being a two-way player, if he even he might not even want to do it if he even plays special teams, it'll be as a gunner uh if you're drafted as high as he's going to be drafted, I highly doubt there's going to be a whole lot of special teams in his future.
00:24:43.027 --> 00:24:54.147
Usually that's the guys you pick up in the sixth, seventh round, or guys that are lifers, ones that they're known for their special teams, so they move from team to team being special teams.
00:24:54.440 --> 00:24:55.804
Or guys that can tackle.
00:24:55.804 --> 00:24:58.171
That may be not as well-known.
00:24:58.171 --> 00:25:03.306
They're not starters yet, but definitely guys that are skilled tacklers, technical tacklers, for sure.
00:25:03.586 --> 00:25:07.228
Right right and then we'll move over here.
00:25:07.228 --> 00:25:09.865
Let's see here.
00:25:09.865 --> 00:25:17.756
Sorry, this thing is not cooperating, but now we're talking about we're not going to talk really much about Shadur, but we're going to talk about his brother, shiloh.
00:25:17.756 --> 00:25:27.611
Okay, if you didn't know, deion Sanders has two sons coming into the NFL, hopefully coming into the NFL through his own college team.
00:25:27.611 --> 00:25:33.811
Shiloh was not invited to the NFL combine.
00:25:33.811 --> 00:25:39.092
Could this mean problems for the potential of his pro future?
00:25:39.092 --> 00:25:44.371
Now he's a senior too, isn't he?
00:25:44.371 --> 00:25:46.244
Or is he an underclassman?
00:25:46.244 --> 00:25:48.090
I don't know for sure.
00:25:48.090 --> 00:25:49.265
I didn't do that research yet.
00:25:49.339 --> 00:25:54.026
Well, if he's already declared to go to the draft, then he's got to be at least a junior.
00:25:54.026 --> 00:26:03.672
Well, if you declare to go into the draft, you are no longer viable as a college player.
00:26:03.672 --> 00:26:04.594
You can't go back.
00:26:04.594 --> 00:26:05.616
Yeah, you can't go back.
00:26:05.897 --> 00:26:06.759
Yeah, you can't go back.
00:26:07.182 --> 00:26:10.027
So once you declare that's it, You're on to the draft.
00:26:11.662 --> 00:26:12.787
What if you don't make the draft?
00:26:12.787 --> 00:26:14.164
What if you don't make the combine?
00:26:14.164 --> 00:26:14.748
Don't make the draft.
00:26:14.799 --> 00:26:18.589
Well, there are hundreds of players that get signed on after the draft.
00:26:18.589 --> 00:26:20.319
This happens all the time, you know.
00:26:20.319 --> 00:26:23.663
This is why, in the later rounds of the draft, you'll see teams.
00:26:23.663 --> 00:26:29.607
They'll go and pick up a player and it's like, well, wait a second, why'd they pick him up?
00:26:29.607 --> 00:26:32.549
They already have seven wide receivers.
00:26:32.549 --> 00:26:33.651
Why are they going to pick up another one?
00:26:33.651 --> 00:26:41.217
Because that particular player they want to get in the look at and maybe he doesn't make the team, but he could be a practice squad guy.
00:26:41.257 --> 00:26:46.671
Yeah, I was just about to say a practice squad, or they could use him to be traded to another team for more picks.
00:26:47.759 --> 00:26:48.544
So there's a lot of.
00:26:48.544 --> 00:27:00.626
The end of the draft is really interesting because there's players that get called and they'll say hey, we really like you, we really love your game, but we're not going to draft you.
00:27:00.626 --> 00:27:04.183
And then you're like well, why are you calling me if you're not going to draft me?
00:27:04.183 --> 00:27:06.729
Well, we're not going to draft you, but we're going to sign you.
00:27:07.371 --> 00:27:26.075
If you don't get picked up, we're going to sign you to a, you know, free agent deal, you know an undrafted rookie free agent to come in and be part of the part of the mini camps and try to get to see if you can work your way onto the team.
00:27:26.075 --> 00:27:30.332
I mean, this is how we get the Adam Thielens, the Tony Romos.
00:27:30.332 --> 00:27:36.729
These players weren't drafted, they were unrestricted free agents that were college players.
00:27:36.769 --> 00:27:40.107
London Fletcher anybody who worked their way onto teams.
00:27:40.107 --> 00:27:50.996
So just because he doesn't get picked up through the draft doesn't mean he won't make it into a practice squad or onto a team in one way or another.
00:27:50.996 --> 00:27:55.151
It just it all depends on how hard he works and who he impresses.
00:27:56.163 --> 00:27:56.965
Yeah, I agree there.
00:27:56.965 --> 00:27:59.909
It doesn't necessarily mean that he's not going to make it.
00:27:59.909 --> 00:28:05.411
There are other avenues there and I mean he's on the best, most efficient one.
00:28:05.411 --> 00:28:09.007
So good luck to him and we'll see how it goes.
00:28:09.007 --> 00:28:19.713
Now there's something new going on here with college players and the widely popular College Football 25 coming out.
00:28:19.713 --> 00:28:29.864
College Football is almost the video game game, is almost, if not more, popular than the madden football game itself.
00:28:29.864 --> 00:28:36.384
Okay, probably the only legitimate competitor out there to madden is the college football game.
00:28:36.384 --> 00:28:38.387
Uh, and it's so diverse.
00:28:38.387 --> 00:28:47.401
Now, typically, the way these things works, uh, you know, I think it's what is the ea that produces that game, or is it?
00:28:47.401 --> 00:28:48.663
Uh, whoever produces?
00:28:49.144 --> 00:29:04.914
I have to go into the little more research, but there's usually there's been a few few game companies that have made college football games, but but yes, ea is usually the maker of the yeah, well, usually recent college football ea goes out themselves.
00:29:05.978 --> 00:29:14.544
They sign deals with these players be in the game, and players get like 600 bucks up front and then they get a small upfront pay and that's it.
00:29:14.544 --> 00:29:24.691
I think the players actually get like less than two percent of overall sales and profits from this market and that's just, and they're the primary.
00:29:24.691 --> 00:29:26.641
Without them you don't have a game, right?
00:29:26.641 --> 00:29:47.135
So, uh, what these, this uh new entity is, especially in the era of the nil, okay, you have a um pathways company they're actually called pathwayway Sports and Entertainment they are finding ways to monetize NIL deals.
00:29:47.135 --> 00:30:01.748
So now, players in the college and they're actually going through the front door with this this is considered above-cap space money or above NIL money, which makes it legal in the college system.
00:30:01.768 --> 00:30:17.163
Right, there's a lot of mechanics to the financial system in college football, um, so basically, uh, they seek to monetize nil deals specifically to to the college football game via royalty offers.
00:30:17.163 --> 00:30:28.664
So, instead of offering them a six-figure sum, these players are now making upwards of four, four figures or more for their video game appearance.
00:30:28.664 --> 00:30:38.845
And on top of it, they're giving them a fifteen hundred dollar signing bonus up front, which is more than double what they were getting before.
00:30:38.845 --> 00:30:51.396
Uh, so this allows them to get a bigger share of the profits from that video game.
00:30:51.396 --> 00:31:04.971
It just goes to show how much more expansive NIL is becoming as far as how these financial mechanics work and getting these players access to more money, as well as their programs too.
00:31:04.971 --> 00:31:09.066
What do you make of that, mike, mike?
00:31:09.086 --> 00:31:34.830
I think it's high time because for years these sports companies or these video game companies have been making these games and they've been making all the profit Like, yeah, they'd give money to, you know, the college programs, but they wouldn't give the money to the players because there was all these NCAA rules about we can't give money to players.
00:31:34.830 --> 00:31:37.067
That's why you had a lot of those backdoor deals.
00:31:37.067 --> 00:31:53.220
You had the bag man and the situations where the guy would he would be borrowing a car from a dealership or they would go back to their dorm room and there would be a bag of money under script sitting somewhere.
00:31:53.220 --> 00:32:00.429
Or in the case of, like Jameis Winston's back in the day, where you could just go in and get crab legs and walk out.
00:32:00.429 --> 00:32:08.788
Except this was the one time somebody said something and jamis winston's just happened to be the guy who was on the hookup.
00:32:08.788 --> 00:32:09.792
Hey, what are you doing?
00:32:09.792 --> 00:32:10.895
You're stealing crab legs.
00:32:11.377 --> 00:32:17.913
No, he said, I could have it yeah who nobody said, you could have it you know, and it just one of those deals, man.
00:32:17.972 --> 00:32:27.040
You know, one of those deals they had to do backdoor deals back then and I like how this, how this is set up, because this is not necessarily backdoor deal.
00:32:27.040 --> 00:32:29.868
They're going, they're going directly to the colleges and the players.
00:32:29.868 --> 00:32:50.192
I think they had something like over 20 million dollars invested in this venture, um, to pay the players up front and they're they're expected to have like a significant amount of college players signing on to these deals and it's royalty deals, so that's a continuous revenue right.
00:32:50.192 --> 00:32:51.967
So that's good for these players.
00:32:51.967 --> 00:32:53.527
I think it's good all around.
00:32:53.527 --> 00:33:01.569
And it's considered above salary cap, it's above NIL, so there's not really any restrictions on it.
00:33:02.000 --> 00:33:03.946
Hopefully they're getting a percentage of sale.
00:33:04.608 --> 00:33:07.785
Yeah, well, that's where the royalty deal is well.
00:33:08.205 --> 00:33:17.156
Well, yeah, I know they're going to get some of that, but, like I mean, beyond just the hey, you know where we sold x amount of units this month.
00:33:17.156 --> 00:33:17.959
Here's your cut.
00:33:17.959 --> 00:33:19.261
Oh, yeah, is what I'm saying.
00:33:19.363 --> 00:33:22.450
I think it does include bonuses and things like that.
00:33:22.450 --> 00:33:25.305
I I didn't have the specifics, it did.
00:33:25.305 --> 00:33:27.990
The article didn't have the specifics.
00:33:27.990 --> 00:33:36.191
The article didn't offer terribly much specifics, but it's a relatively obtuse venture but it's really good.
00:33:36.191 --> 00:33:49.501
I think it's good for the college football landscape and again getting college players access to money before they hit the pros college players access to money before they hit the pros.
00:33:49.521 --> 00:34:15.853
Well, I think and it's not well for me, it's not so much that, as much as it is when you've got college programs, you've got TV networks, you've got advertisers, you've got sports companies and video game companies that were making millions and millions of dollars and some of these deals being worth billions, and these players it's like what do you want?
00:34:15.853 --> 00:34:16.902
We gave you a scholarship.
00:34:16.902 --> 00:34:24.407
Yeah, well, that scholarship is only worth whatever they do with it, you know if the scholarship they.
00:34:25.068 --> 00:34:28.684
You know, in some schools it ranges in how much that is worth.
00:34:28.684 --> 00:34:40.173
So, you know, if you're going to a lesser known college, your college degree by a, you know, hey, we gave you, we brought you in, we gave you this deal.
00:34:40.173 --> 00:34:46.371
Well, it's only worth like $ thousand dollars yeah but you just made millions.
00:34:46.371 --> 00:34:49.105
So and then other schools.
00:34:49.105 --> 00:34:52.922
You know some of the more prominent schools, the harvards, the, the yields or whatever.
00:34:52.963 --> 00:35:04.402
Yeah, you, you definitely got a deal there, but yeah, and it brings in money for their program and for their school too, so I'm sure that the schools obviously like it as well but this?
00:35:04.563 --> 00:35:22.969
well, yeah, the schools will always like getting more money, but the problem I had was all these schools making money and they weren't giving nothing to the players and they're just making all this money off of them, and it never sat well with me and it's like when people would tell me and I used to hate this.
00:35:23.159 --> 00:35:27.891
I used to hate when people would say I don't watch NFL because those players are making so much money.
00:35:27.891 --> 00:35:33.304
I watch college ball because those guys are passionate.
00:35:33.304 --> 00:35:39.956
Those guys are getting playing because they love the game and it's like no, these guys are playing college ball because they want to get to the NFL and get paid.
00:35:40.362 --> 00:35:44.612
They can't get paid in college and best believe, if they could get paid in college they would have.
00:35:44.974 --> 00:35:55.815
But and they don't mention the fact that the college is making buku bucks off of them and the college player's not getting anything.
00:35:55.815 --> 00:35:58.509
The college player can't even get a cheeseburger from them.
00:35:58.509 --> 00:36:13.297
So it's like okay, so you guys love the fact that they're being exploited in college, but you have a problem with the ones that are making money in the NFL.
00:36:13.297 --> 00:36:17.760
Let's understand something you don't get to the NFL by happenstance.
00:36:17.760 --> 00:36:21.411
You get to the NFL because you worked your butt off to get there.
00:36:21.411 --> 00:36:24.528
You don't just show up and get drafted.
00:36:25.480 --> 00:36:29.672
There's only like 2,700 players in the NFL.
00:36:29.672 --> 00:36:31.635
It's not a big organization.
00:36:31.635 --> 00:36:34.405
Walmart employs more people, so does McDonald's.
00:36:34.405 --> 00:36:47.733
So like oh, I agree, like I am never going to knock anybody for finding a way to get paid okay, especially college students.
00:36:47.733 --> 00:36:53.730
Because a lot of these guys and girls, a lot of these people go through college.
00:36:53.730 --> 00:36:57.371
They rack up a ton of debt just to get through college.
00:36:57.371 --> 00:37:07.768
Sometimes they make it in the pro league, sometimes they don't, sometimes they don't even make it in the profession that they went and got in all that debt for to begin with.
00:37:07.768 --> 00:37:14.228
And now they have all this debt that they've got to pay off and work off Crippling debt, and their life has hardly barely even started.
00:37:14.909 --> 00:37:32.204
So I'm never gonna knock uh people for finding a way to get paid, because that's literally what everybody else would do well, and the funny, the funny part with that argument of people I'm not gonna watch the nfl because those players make all that money that's stupid.
00:37:32.224 --> 00:37:33.668
To to me Exactly.
00:37:33.807 --> 00:37:34.449
But here's the thing.
00:37:34.449 --> 00:37:35.170
Here's the thing.
00:37:35.170 --> 00:37:44.983
Okay, you say I hate that argument because when people say that it's like, okay, you hate that they make all that money, all right, fair enough.
00:37:44.983 --> 00:37:46.684
But do you watch a movie?
00:37:46.684 --> 00:37:49.288
Do you watch a tv show?
00:37:49.288 --> 00:37:51.891
Do you go to concerts?
00:37:51.891 --> 00:37:56.096
Huh, well, those people make 10 times what they do.
00:37:56.096 --> 00:38:02.501
You know, an actor like tom cruise will make 40 million dollars for making one movie that he spent three months making.
00:38:02.501 --> 00:38:11.873
But okay, you're gonna get mad at this guy because he makes maybe a million a game yeah, you're gonna get mad at him.
00:38:12.074 --> 00:38:19.983
Yeah, and I mean better than yeah, would you rather them make nothing and the rich spoiled owners keep all that money that you're funneling to them?
00:38:19.983 --> 00:38:29.911
Yeah, nobody, nobody ever mentions them I would rather see the wealth get spread, and that's coming down to the nfl players rather well as know.
00:38:29.952 --> 00:38:33.699
I mean it's not In these last few decades.
00:38:33.760 --> 00:38:41.226
Yes, yeah, especially when players and I know players like Aaron Rodgers, for instance they throw out no, I want to get paid.
00:38:41.226 --> 00:38:43.846
You know it's a slippery slope.
00:38:43.846 --> 00:38:51.355
I agree with getting paid, but at the same time I don't agree with screwing your team over to get to that point.
00:38:51.697 --> 00:38:51.860
Right.
00:38:52.019 --> 00:38:56.445
Which is what some of these players end up doing throwing hissy fit you can always make money on endorsements.
00:38:56.445 --> 00:39:02.349
Yeah, endorsements and appearances, and they do so, and a lot of people don't even think about that.
00:39:02.349 --> 00:39:06.090
Oh well, rodgers wants $51 million a year.
00:39:06.090 --> 00:39:15.307
Just give it to him, bro, how many State farm commercials he done paid for already, because whatever the nfl paying him ain't coming close to what he's making on commercials.
00:39:15.307 --> 00:39:16.800
I'm telling you that right now you know.
00:39:17.322 --> 00:39:22.431
It's funny that you mention, you know, commercials and stuff and money being made.
00:39:22.431 --> 00:39:33.474
Uh, I heard an interview one time with uh grunk where he literally said the money he made in the NFL he doesn't touch it.
00:39:33.474 --> 00:39:39.847
The only money he lives on is the money he made off endorsements and guest appearances and stuff like that.
00:39:39.847 --> 00:39:45.132
So he literally saved all of his money when he was playing for later.
00:39:45.132 --> 00:39:53.947
So as much as we want to be like, he was actually pretty smart in saving his money, yeah and Marshawn Lynch the same way.
00:39:54.561 --> 00:39:59.110
For his entire career he didn't touch a penny of any of it.
00:40:00.172 --> 00:40:00.634
Endorsements.
00:40:01.000 --> 00:40:02.686
Yeah, the endorsements.
00:40:02.686 --> 00:40:08.099
I mean and Marshawn Lynch might be the best example, because he didn't even touch his endorsement money.
00:40:08.099 --> 00:40:11.090
I mean, this guy lived on Skittles and had an apartment.
00:40:13.123 --> 00:40:14.809
I don't think that's entirely true.
00:40:15.400 --> 00:40:20.402
He had a studio apartment, you know, and lived on Skittles Like this.
00:40:20.402 --> 00:40:23.623
Man was beast mode for a reason, okay, Because he was always hungry.
00:40:23.623 --> 00:40:24.266
Look, look.
00:40:26.802 --> 00:40:36.467
Being a 49ers fan, I hated to watch that man play against my team, but I have mad respect for him and I did love watching him play, because he was one hell of a player.
00:40:36.699 --> 00:40:38.347
The hungriest millionaire I've ever seen.
00:40:38.942 --> 00:40:44.990
But here's one thing, a story I heard about him and it just shows to his character.
00:40:44.990 --> 00:40:56.708
So he started a clothing company in Oakland where he's from, started a clothing company in Oakland where he's from and he had opened a shop and you know, was doing quite well with his, you know beast mode wear.
00:40:56.708 --> 00:41:04.347
And he was walking up to his business and he got stopped by a homeless person.
00:41:04.347 --> 00:41:10.869
And a homeless person, just you know, said hey man, I just, you know, could I get some change so I can get something to eat?
00:41:10.869 --> 00:41:14.780
Hey man, could I get some change so I can get something to eat?
00:41:14.780 --> 00:41:18.800
And he looked at the guy and the guy was in some really tattered clothes and just not looking well off.
00:41:19.521 --> 00:41:35.568
He literally goes into his shop, grabs off a couple things off the rack and takes them out to the guy and gives them to him and says hey man, I don't really have any cash to give you, but here's some clothes so you can at least, you know, have some new clothes.
00:41:35.568 --> 00:41:36.652
And the guy thanked him.
00:41:36.652 --> 00:41:38.568
He was like man, that's so cool of you.
00:41:38.568 --> 00:41:41.139
I really appreciate it, you know.
00:41:41.139 --> 00:41:56.463
So the man, definitely a really good player and a really good person, you know, and now movie star and a really good person, you know.
00:41:56.483 --> 00:41:57.987
and now movie star, yeah, he's, he's in that, uh that one, uh new movie.
00:41:57.987 --> 00:41:58.429
Uh, what was the name?
00:41:58.429 --> 00:42:10.726
The man who never like love hurts or something like that the man who never did an interview and would wear his sunglasses when he had to and would say, I think a total of like not even a word maybe just letters.
00:42:10.806 --> 00:42:13.472
No, he said I'm just here so I don't get fined.
00:42:14.684 --> 00:42:18.045
I'm just here so I don't get fined with sunglasses.
00:42:18.045 --> 00:42:20.440
Now this man's a movie star total 180.
00:42:20.440 --> 00:42:26.688
But yeah, being frugal with the money is the other part.
00:42:26.688 --> 00:42:42.663
You know of it and they'll learn at this level how to be responsible if they make it to the next level, which is something that has eluded so many sports stars before them, because they get out of college or they make it to the big leagues.
00:42:42.663 --> 00:42:46.380
However, they get there Now they got all this money they've never seen in their life.
00:42:46.380 --> 00:42:49.045
They have all this fame driving them.
00:42:49.045 --> 00:42:50.690
They have all these people around them.
00:42:52.201 --> 00:42:53.510
You gotta have the right people around them.
00:42:53.530 --> 00:43:02.614
You've got to have the right people around you, you will, and the NFL does have a program for rookies to try to help manage that, but it's obviously only yeah the one with Chris Carter.
00:43:02.800 --> 00:43:14.393
Chris Carter comes in and tells them the stories from when he was a rookie and the dumb things he was doing and the reason he got shipped out of being with philly because of the dumb things he was doing and wound up with the vikings well, not well.
00:43:14.512 --> 00:43:21.990
Not only that, but every team also has a division now designed to help rookies.
00:43:21.990 --> 00:43:32.786
You know, obviously they gotta seek the help, but to help rookies manage the fame and manage, uh, the money to better set them up, you know, it's like advisement courses, it's needed.
00:43:34.400 --> 00:43:36.239
It's needed, because some of these guys.
00:43:37.041 --> 00:43:39.590
It's like extra credit courses you can take for your job.
00:43:40.179 --> 00:43:45.693
Well, they do these kinds of things, so these guys will be better served.
00:43:45.693 --> 00:44:00.067
Some of these guys are coming in here and they've never had this amount of money before yeah or or didn't have to manage money like this because they, you know, like most of us, they live paycheck to paycheck, if they even had a paycheck.
00:44:00.086 --> 00:44:25.333
A lot, of, a lot of college doesn't even have a paycheck but, point being, they're helping them manage themselves in a way that they can continue to have financial success beyond playing, because, let's face it, the average NFL career is not long, you're like three to five years and I think running backs are the shortest at like three to five years, exactly what you said.
00:44:26.280 --> 00:44:29.831
Receivers on average might get five years, four years.
00:44:30.621 --> 00:44:33.891
Which is usually a rookie contract, and you don't get much money on that.
00:44:34.079 --> 00:44:36.771
Most players don't even see a second contract.
00:44:36.771 --> 00:44:37.534
Did you know that?
00:44:38.056 --> 00:44:42.429
Yeah, this is why they say if you can get yours get it.
00:44:42.780 --> 00:45:00.708
But I mean it doesn't mean you've got to go and, like you said, bankrupt the team, but I understand getting your fair value pay share, and it was nice to be able to spend some time on the mechanics of this, because that's going to help us segue right into the nfl we don't?
00:45:00.889 --> 00:45:01.952
we don't have much more.
00:45:01.952 --> 00:45:05.061
We probably will hit on the nfl still going forward like other sports.
00:45:05.061 --> 00:45:10.384
But uh, as it's been our dominant subject here, mike, we're getting ready to phase out of this.
00:45:10.384 --> 00:45:12.327
Can you believe it is bit, mike, we're getting ready to phase out of this.
00:45:12.327 --> 00:45:12.454
Can you believe it?
00:45:12.454 --> 00:45:12.579
It is bittersweet.
00:45:12.579 --> 00:45:21.733
We're getting ready to step out of the NFL season for our inaugural podcast campaign.
00:45:22.519 --> 00:45:24.507
Yeah, we're going to be moving into the offseason.
00:45:24.507 --> 00:45:35.153
We're approaching the saddest Sunday of the year, the Sunday where you realize you're getting up and there's no NFL football to watch.
00:45:35.320 --> 00:45:38.190
Unless you're a Chiefs fan, it might be the happiest Sunday.
00:45:38.320 --> 00:45:39.465
I mean, well, think about it.
00:45:39.465 --> 00:45:40.106
Think about it.
00:45:40.106 --> 00:45:53.804
We're moving on to a Sunday where there's no NFL football to watch, and that's because we just had the Super Bowl, and by now you've all seen what happened.
00:45:53.804 --> 00:46:03.141
You know the score, you know that the Chiefs lost a disastrous way to the Eagles in the Super Bowl and the Eagles are Super Bowl champs.
00:46:03.181 --> 00:46:04.969
Look them boys, just got whooped.
00:46:05.340 --> 00:46:06.244
That's all there is.
00:46:07.402 --> 00:46:12.447
Look, mike, sometimes you kick ass and sometimes you get your ass kicked.
00:46:12.447 --> 00:46:15.989
And this wasn't ass kicking, okay for the Chiefs.
00:46:16.079 --> 00:46:24.494
Well, yes, yes, I agree they did not play well and the Eagles played an outstanding game on their end.
00:46:24.494 --> 00:46:28.769
But with that, I have a question for you.
00:46:28.769 --> 00:46:34.210
Okay, who does the blame fall on for the Chiefs playing so poorly?
00:46:34.920 --> 00:46:38.050
So there's a lot of things that went wrong in this game for the Chiefs.
00:46:38.050 --> 00:46:38.550
Okay.
00:46:38.550 --> 00:46:45.610
First of all, the defense couldn't stop shit, but I'm going to put, if I have to put the blame on anyone.
00:46:45.610 --> 00:46:47.567
They came in with a weak O-line.
00:46:47.567 --> 00:46:49.054
I think they had one or two injuries already to begin with.
00:46:49.054 --> 00:46:49.579
Came in with a weak O-line.
00:46:49.579 --> 00:46:53.666
I think they had one or two injuries already to begin with.
00:46:53.666 --> 00:46:57.614
The O-line only saw, for the majority of the game, a four-man rush.
00:46:57.614 --> 00:47:01.023
That is basic, okay.
00:47:01.023 --> 00:47:03.929
And they were getting hammered and Mahomes was getting hammered.
00:47:03.929 --> 00:47:05.213
What you got for me, buddy.
00:47:07.139 --> 00:47:17.472
So, yes, you're right, they were dealing with injuries because their left tackle, humphreys, was injured, and so their solution to that was to move Joe Tooney over to left tackle, who is normally a guard.
00:47:18.824 --> 00:47:21.067
Now Joe Tooney is a Welcome to the Looney Tunes.
00:47:22.346 --> 00:47:23.534
Well, he's normally.
00:47:23.695 --> 00:47:24.480
The Tooney Loons.
00:47:24.860 --> 00:47:32.250
A Pro Bowl-level guard, not a tackle, but he was holding his own through the playoffs majority of the time.
00:47:32.250 --> 00:47:35.768
But you can't, okay.
00:47:35.768 --> 00:47:46.811
There's a common saying that if you have to move somebody from one position to fill the need, you have damaged two positions yeah and that's exactly what happened here.
00:47:47.213 --> 00:48:03.331
You basically you moved one guy over to solve one need and cause two problems.
00:48:03.331 --> 00:48:19.525
Because now your inside rush was weak, with Carter and Milton who were just feasting up the middle, because you had both defensive ends coming around the end, and they're pushing Mahomes up and take a turn.
00:48:19.525 --> 00:48:25.050
Carter and Milton come and pushing back and collapse in the pocket right on top of Mahomes.
00:48:25.050 --> 00:48:26.365
It happened time and time again.
00:48:27.400 --> 00:48:28.485
And I agree with you.
00:48:28.485 --> 00:48:38.260
I put the blame on the O-line because it, even on a bad day for the chiefs defense, that offense is high powered enough even with missing a couple pieces.
00:48:38.260 --> 00:48:46.521
Not talk about the o-line for a second, but typically speaking, this game aside, they usually can keep up with scoring.
00:48:46.521 --> 00:48:56.807
Uh, now, this whole season, if you watch, the chiefs have not had many high scoring games and mahomes has not had a relatively good season.
00:48:56.827 --> 00:49:09.655
He's had a relatively mediocre season he had a mid-level season by the numbers compared to the rest of his peers so the fact that they were even in the super bowl with some of their stats is rather incredible to begin with.
00:49:09.655 --> 00:49:12.266
But they just seem to know how to pull it out right.
00:49:12.266 --> 00:49:16.820
They seem to know how to win, but this particular game they weren't winning nothing.
00:49:17.201 --> 00:49:19.208
So this leads to another question.
00:49:19.208 --> 00:49:32.873
If the Chiefs were blaming the O-line for the failure, so who on the Eagles should get the most credit for them getting to this win?
00:49:33.342 --> 00:49:35.268
The refs for not calling any penalties.
00:49:35.268 --> 00:49:38.125
No no, no.
00:49:38.364 --> 00:49:39.188
Look, look.
00:49:39.288 --> 00:49:40.210
We all thought it.
00:49:40.210 --> 00:49:44.869
We all thought in that first drive Honestly, this was a relatively clean game okay.
00:49:45.201 --> 00:49:58.028
We all thought it in that first drive with that pass to AJ Brown, where they called offensive pass interference for a very, very minor interference with the, the defender.
00:49:58.028 --> 00:50:05.688
That really didn't have any any bearing on the outcome, but it just like just that play alone.
00:50:05.688 --> 00:50:08.806
You know everybody was thinking, oh, here we go there we go.
00:50:08.826 --> 00:50:10.012
We're bailing them out already.
00:50:10.012 --> 00:50:11.360
So I I saw something.
00:50:11.360 --> 00:50:13.403
I'm just gonna deviate for half a second here.
00:50:13.403 --> 00:50:23.713
I saw a couple memes, one of them um, try to gather my thoughts for a second, because I was thinking of another meme.
00:50:23.713 --> 00:50:27.827
We can keep going, I was it was it the state farm?
00:50:28.268 --> 00:50:30.702
no, but I was going to talk about that one in a second.
00:50:30.702 --> 00:50:32.327
I for I lost my thought.
00:50:32.327 --> 00:50:36.539
I was going to say something of what we were just talking about, but it went away for a minute.
00:50:36.539 --> 00:50:38.206
The State Farm one is a good one too.
00:50:38.206 --> 00:50:42.652
It said.
00:50:42.652 --> 00:50:49.251
If Patrick Mahomes had switched to Allstate he could have prevented mayhem like this as well.
00:50:49.251 --> 00:51:01.487
It's a picture of him and carter and the eagles front just dragging him down yeah, all the eagles taking him down to the ground, yeah yeah, he could have prevented mayhem if he had all state yeah.
00:51:01.869 --> 00:51:03.512
So oh, that's what.
00:51:03.512 --> 00:51:04.275
That's what I was gonna say.
00:51:04.275 --> 00:51:04.679
I'm sorry.
00:51:04.679 --> 00:51:08.766
I was gonna say I saw the meme, it or maybe it was somebody to talk about it.
00:51:08.766 --> 00:51:24.666
It said after all the hysteria around the Chiefs and the refs' scandal or accusations, the NFL dropped the original script for the Super Bowl and that's why the Eagles won.
00:51:24.666 --> 00:51:28.266
Oh man, they said we've got to change the script.
00:51:31.748 --> 00:51:33.295
So I saw a really good one.
00:51:33.295 --> 00:51:40.887
It was Patrick Mahomes embracing Drake, with both of them looking pitifully sad because they both had a horrible week.
00:51:40.887 --> 00:51:43.788
So that one was the one I liked.
00:51:43.788 --> 00:51:52.760
But, getting back to who deserves more of the credit on the Eagles for the win, who are you talking about?
00:51:53.021 --> 00:51:53.621
Honestly?
00:51:53.641 --> 00:51:57.391
I believe in my heart of hearts.
00:51:57.391 --> 00:52:10.333
I believe that it belongs to the defensive and offensive lines of the Eagles, because those two groups just paved the way to this win.
00:52:12.362 --> 00:52:18.130
I'm not going to give it to the Eagles offensive line because Saquon Barkley only had like 32 yards rushing.
00:52:19.480 --> 00:52:26.333
But they handled the Spagnola dialing up.
00:52:26.333 --> 00:52:28.485
You know where everybody goes.
00:52:28.485 --> 00:52:29.483
Oh, look at Spags.
00:52:29.483 --> 00:52:34.547
He's dialing up a blitz, you know, and all he does, this is all he does.
00:52:34.547 --> 00:52:38.911
He sends more people than your offensive line can handle.
00:52:38.911 --> 00:52:41.007
Any defensive coordinator can call that.
00:52:41.007 --> 00:52:47.610
He just picks opportune times to do this, like, oh, your team is in third and 12?
00:52:47.610 --> 00:52:49.606
I'm going to send an all-out blitz.
00:52:49.980 --> 00:52:51.083
Well, yeah, he runs a zero.
00:52:51.083 --> 00:52:55.427
He runs a zero defense multiple defensive scheme.
00:52:55.588 --> 00:53:13.652
It's a very blitz heavy scheme and they ran it in the super bowl and they o-line handled it and gave now it's time to throw a pass, and I and I'm not just time- and I'm not disputing that fact, but what I actually had Philly pegged to win the Super Bowl, that was my pick to win.
00:53:13.652 --> 00:53:25.038
I actually thought that Saquon Barkley was going to be the factor, because the Chiefs, yes, they have Pacheco, but they really don't have a Saquon Barkley type of player.
00:53:25.478 --> 00:53:30.030
No, but going into it and I thought he was going to be the difference but he really wasn't that effective in that game.
00:53:30.702 --> 00:53:31.525
He got a touchdown.
00:53:31.907 --> 00:53:38.554
Yeah, but going into it, the Chiefs did what they knew they needed to do, which was limit Saquon.
00:53:38.554 --> 00:53:46.670
And if you would have told them, hey, we're going to keep Saquon under 100 yards rushing, they would take that 100 times out of 100.
00:53:46.670 --> 00:53:51.351
Because you know, normally when he's over 100 yards, it's a sure thing they're winning.
00:53:53.019 --> 00:53:54.001
But I don't even want him to have 100.
00:53:54.001 --> 00:53:56.708
I say keep him under 60 yards, bro.
00:53:56.708 --> 00:53:58.251
That is a bad game.
00:53:58.251 --> 00:54:02.666
I mean, 30 yards was a bad game, but 60 yards is really in my mind.
00:54:02.666 --> 00:54:09.887
If you're running back, if you're running back, if you're running back can't pass 60 yards.
00:54:09.887 --> 00:54:11.992
That's a good hold to me.
00:54:13.222 --> 00:54:22.920
Yeah, I'm not taking anything away from them for doing that, but what I'm saying is both of those groups, in my opinion, were the ones that deserve credit.
00:54:22.920 --> 00:54:29.748
Now, granted, another guy who probably deserved a lot of credit on the defensive line was Sweat.
00:54:29.748 --> 00:54:32.909
That dude had two and a half sacks in that game, Josh Sweat yeah.
00:54:32.909 --> 00:54:36.971
Yeah, and what a great time to do it, because he's going to be a free agent.
00:54:36.971 --> 00:54:41.940
So now I think there's 31 other teams looking at that going.
00:54:41.960 --> 00:54:44.166
Huh, I think he's related to Montez.
00:54:44.166 --> 00:54:44.648
Sweat of the.
00:54:44.668 --> 00:54:46.344
Bears, can we bring that guy in?
00:54:46.344 --> 00:54:50.190
Oh, by the way, he's a Chesapeake native.
00:54:50.190 --> 00:54:55.103
He's from here in hampton roads.
00:54:55.163 --> 00:54:56.405
Uh, then he's not related to montez.
00:54:56.425 --> 00:55:14.730
No, he's not, so swear to god, I thought he was case in case in point another guy from hampton roads making a huge impact in a super bowl I see commanders written all over him can we say plexico burst no, no, I love pico, but I want a better example for this one.
00:55:14.730 --> 00:55:17.773
No, hey look man D'Angelo.
00:55:17.773 --> 00:55:18.974
Hall he caught the touchdown.
00:55:18.994 --> 00:55:19.775
D'Angelo Hall.
00:55:19.856 --> 00:55:21.706
No, I'm saying Super Bowl impact.
00:55:21.706 --> 00:55:24.086
Man, don't bring up D'Angelo Hall in here for that.
00:55:24.086 --> 00:55:35.041
Michael Vick, look, he caught the touchdown pass that put the.
00:55:35.141 --> 00:55:36.164
Giants to beat brady in the super bowl, the.
00:55:36.164 --> 00:55:37.485
You gotta say that's pretty impactful.
00:55:37.485 --> 00:55:42.701
He did, I'm not gonna lie, he did, oh you know, not more impressive than david tyree's head catch.
00:55:43.541 --> 00:55:57.818
But hey, all I gotta say on that okay, look, every time we bring up the Tyree catch or the Odell Beckham catch, the catch is what that's called.
00:55:58.902 --> 00:55:59.865
It's called the catch.
00:56:00.380 --> 00:56:06.172
Realize that those had to be bad passes in order for them to be great catches.
00:56:06.500 --> 00:56:07.806
Which is why.
00:56:08.300 --> 00:56:19.574
Which is why Each time they were thrown by Eli Manning, you know, Mr Did-Not-Make-The-Hall-of-Fame-on-the-first-ballot-thank-you-voters-for-not-voting-this-guy-in.
00:56:20.121 --> 00:56:22.128
I was just about to go there.
00:56:22.128 --> 00:56:23.927
That is why he's not in.
00:56:23.927 --> 00:56:25.487
Yes, he has two Super Bowls.
00:56:25.487 --> 00:56:29.847
First of all, I made this prediction before as well.
00:56:29.847 --> 00:56:33.313
Somebody say do you think he'll make it into the Hall of Fame?
00:56:38.132 --> 00:56:39.418
And I said only if he cries for it.
00:56:39.418 --> 00:56:40.704
Look bottom line, he didn't make it first ballot.
00:56:40.704 --> 00:56:53.360
If he would have got put in first ballot I would have been so pissed, because how can you let a man with such mediocre numbers and almost a 500 record for a career Granted?
00:56:53.360 --> 00:56:56.891
Did he have two awesome runs and two Super Bowl wins?
00:56:56.891 --> 00:56:58.525
Yes, but that's all he had.
00:56:58.699 --> 00:56:59.905
This is the trade right here.
00:56:59.905 --> 00:57:03.731
Dan Marino he's a Hall of Famer has zero Super Bowls.
00:57:03.731 --> 00:57:07.086
Eli Manning, not a Hall of Famer, has two Super Bowls.
00:57:07.086 --> 00:57:08.208
That's a fair trade.
00:57:08.208 --> 00:57:09.291
We call it done deal.
00:57:09.291 --> 00:57:10.213
End of story.
00:57:10.213 --> 00:57:10.681
Let's go.
00:57:10.963 --> 00:57:20.688
Look, this guy only led the league in categories like interceptions for the year.
00:57:20.688 --> 00:57:22.806
That's not a Hall of Famer.
00:57:22.806 --> 00:57:29.222
I'm sorry, look, if you take the Super Bowls away, he's not a Hall of Famer.
00:57:29.222 --> 00:57:30.289
You have the Super Bowls he is a Hall of Famer.
00:57:30.289 --> 00:57:31.659
You have the Super Bowls he is a Hall of Famer.
00:57:33.682 --> 00:57:45.409
Look the defense largely got them there and it was a fluke they went 7-9 both seasons that they went to the Super Bowl yes, they were a wild card team, they did not even have a winning record.
00:57:46.041 --> 00:57:49.940
And they won off of their defenses and off their running game mainly.
00:57:50.983 --> 00:57:52.588
And one or two wild plays.
00:57:52.949 --> 00:57:58.568
Yes, but getting back to the Super Bowl, we were just talking about the Super Bowl.
00:57:58.568 --> 00:58:01.869
Yeah, we just got distracted with Eli junk.
00:58:02.440 --> 00:58:06.789
So, getting back to, I'm going to name one of our chapters, that Eli junk.
00:58:07.422 --> 00:58:10.440
Getting back to things that happened in the Super Bowl.
00:58:10.440 --> 00:58:15.724
So there's a lot of speculation now as to kelsey's status going forward.
00:58:15.724 --> 00:58:18.248
Should he retire, should he go ahead?
00:58:18.248 --> 00:58:20.760
And, you know, keep playing like what?
00:58:20.760 --> 00:58:21.963
What should he do?
00:58:22.585 --> 00:58:36.708
if I had number one, if I had as bad of a game as kelsey did in the super bowl and if my girlfriend got booed out of the stadium like she did, I would definitely be like you know what.
00:58:36.708 --> 00:58:39.525
This might not be for me anymore.
00:58:40.929 --> 00:58:44.269
Okay, so I got a couple things to say on this.
00:58:44.269 --> 00:58:54.411
Now, mind you, Kelsey, it didn't help that he put out a post before the game saying you know time to turn it on.
00:58:54.411 --> 00:59:00.519
If he was trying to turn something on, he should have checked to see if that thing was plugged in, because it looked like it was off the whole time.
00:59:00.579 --> 00:59:02.086
It's why I talk about Taylor Swift.
00:59:02.086 --> 00:59:07.449
He probably didn't even turn that on, you know how Ronda Rousey used to have to fuck before every match.
00:59:07.449 --> 00:59:12.228
Kind of like that, except his was probably done by a hand.
00:59:14.760 --> 00:59:15.322
Neither here nor there.
00:59:15.322 --> 00:59:28.070
So, kelsey, everybody wants to look back and say that he's done pretty well this season and that he's still an impactful player.
00:59:28.070 --> 00:59:30.985
Understand that.
00:59:30.985 --> 00:59:33.271
The game before against Buffalo he had two catches.
00:59:33.771 --> 00:59:33.873
Mm-hmm.
00:59:34.760 --> 00:59:36.947
And not much yardage to show for that.
00:59:37.389 --> 00:59:37.590
Yeah.
00:59:38.159 --> 00:59:55.925
The game before that he played against the Texans Was not much of a factor in that game at all, except for getting one touchdown, which was a kind of a garbage broken down play that he just sat in his own, which is what he's turned into.
00:59:55.925 --> 01:00:07.182
Okay, People will say that he's got 95 receptions on the year right, but his average yardage for those 95 receptions this year is only eight yards.
01:00:07.202 --> 01:00:10.286
for those 95 receptions this year is only eight yards.
01:00:10.286 --> 01:00:20.034
As somebody who's supposed to go out and get receptions only getting eight yards a catch, that's not somebody that's going to make impactful plays.
01:00:20.474 --> 01:00:32.684
Yeah, and just like Patrick Mahomes, kelsey has not really had a spectacular year Aside from just simply making the super bowl.
01:00:32.684 --> 01:00:37.885
This team, his stats wise, has really not had a spectacular year at all.
01:00:38.565 --> 01:00:43.135
It's been a tale of their defense bailing them out yeah, very, you know.
01:00:43.239 --> 01:00:46.567
So, are they stepping back?
01:00:46.567 --> 01:00:52.960
Are they on the cusp of regressing?
01:00:52.960 --> 01:00:57.389
Is regression on the on the?
01:00:57.389 --> 01:01:00.219
Are we on the precipice?
01:01:00.280 --> 01:01:01.210
are you saying?
01:01:01.210 --> 01:01:02.159
Are they in rebuild mode?
01:01:02.704 --> 01:01:07.346
no, I don't think they're in rebuild mode, but I'm saying they've been through three straight Super Bowls.
01:01:07.346 --> 01:01:09.099
The third one they lost.
01:01:09.099 --> 01:01:13.612
This year was not a particularly good year for them.
01:01:13.612 --> 01:01:25.402
In general, as far as playing in stats, I mean, yeah, they won games, they made the Super Bowl, that's great, but stats-wise they really didn't have a good year Performance-wise they really didn't have a good year.
01:01:25.744 --> 01:01:27.289
They had some injuries to overcome.
01:01:27.289 --> 01:01:38.528
Do the Chiefs take a step back after this kind of performance or are they going to continue to be a powerhouse, as they have been in years past, in years recent?
01:01:39.431 --> 01:01:47.030
So to answer that, I say to you one of two things or one of a few things.
01:01:47.030 --> 01:01:51.516
I got a couple things on this, so we got to find out what is happening with Kelsey.
01:01:51.516 --> 01:01:52.681
If he is returning or not.
01:01:52.681 --> 01:01:54.306
That's a big question for them.
01:01:54.306 --> 01:01:57.505
Personally, I have eyes.
01:01:57.505 --> 01:01:58.824
Everybody else has eyes.
01:01:58.824 --> 01:02:01.182
We all saw that performance in the Super Bowl.
01:02:01.182 --> 01:02:03.463
He looks spent, he looks shot.
01:02:03.463 --> 01:02:08.059
He does not look like Kelsey we've seen over the last few years.
01:02:08.282 --> 01:02:10.862
Thank you for recognizing that we all have eyes.
01:02:10.862 --> 01:02:13.090
Can we now recognize that we all have a voice?
01:02:14.041 --> 01:02:15.547
Look, that's not true.
01:02:15.547 --> 01:02:16.552
There are people that are mute.
01:02:16.994 --> 01:02:17.335
Truth.
01:02:17.335 --> 01:02:18.099
Sorry for you, guys.
01:02:18.139 --> 01:02:19.344
I can say look.
01:02:19.344 --> 01:02:20.307
I say we all have eyes.
01:02:20.307 --> 01:02:22.307
I didn't say we can all see they speak to their.
01:02:22.320 --> 01:02:22.862
Some people see.
01:02:22.862 --> 01:02:25.289
Some people just choose to ignore what they see.
01:02:25.289 --> 01:02:29.170
And what I see is a player who is diminished substantially.
01:02:29.170 --> 01:02:30.492
So he is a player who is diminished substantially.
01:02:30.492 --> 01:02:31.614
Well, he might be distracted.
01:02:31.614 --> 01:02:33.615
No, it's not a distraction.
01:02:33.615 --> 01:02:35.286
He is not the same player.
01:02:35.286 --> 01:02:38.728
He does not move the same, he is not producing the same.
01:02:40.320 --> 01:02:50.713
So, beyond that, they also got to figure out the free agent situation, because Smith, one of their best offensive linemen, is a free agent.
01:02:50.713 --> 01:02:55.612
Nick Bolton is also one of their best defensive players is a free agent.
01:02:55.612 --> 01:02:57.206
So they've got to figure that out.
01:02:57.206 --> 01:02:59.086
They've got to figure out their offensive line.
01:02:59.086 --> 01:03:10.728
They've got to figure out what they're going to do as far as receivers and stuff, because I mean, let's face it, worthy was the only one doing anything for them really in that entire Super Bowl.
01:03:10.728 --> 01:03:13.927
You know like Worthy was the only one doing anything for them really in that entire Super Bowl.
01:03:13.927 --> 01:03:19.628
You know like Worthy was the only one that seemed to be getting downfield and getting them big chunk plays, but that was so late in the game it didn't matter.
01:03:20.009 --> 01:03:20.250
Yeah.
01:03:20.679 --> 01:03:29.835
But now they have hit the portion of Patrick Mahomes' contract where his contract is going to take up a lot of the cap.
01:03:29.835 --> 01:03:37.347
So now they're going to have to figure out restructuring stuff if they're going to restructure, and then after that you've got to figure.
01:03:37.347 --> 01:03:42.710
If they don't hit on some draft picks it's going to be really hard to get back.
01:03:42.710 --> 01:03:57.228
I mean, we all talk about this Super Bowl hangover Like I hate to say it, my Niners they were the ones that lost last year and Super Bowl hangover they were so beat up and injured that guys were dropping like flies this year.
01:03:58.190 --> 01:03:59.072
Who's not the same.
01:03:59.072 --> 01:04:02.367
That might be fallout from the Super Bowl.
01:04:02.367 --> 01:04:06.929
Last year for the Chiefs they dealt with a lot of injuries, especially early on this year.
01:04:06.960 --> 01:04:12.842
Well, they've played more games than anybody else in the AFC, going three years to the Super Bowl.
01:04:12.842 --> 01:04:22.548
Yeah, so they've made a run like this, and I'm going to say this right now, and I will own this if I am wrong here we go, get this on record.
01:04:22.721 --> 01:04:26.467
I am telling you right now Get your record players out or record recorders, get your recorders.
01:04:26.980 --> 01:04:29.885
It's already going to be recording so people can go back and say, hey look, you said this.
01:04:30.166 --> 01:04:31.027
Listen, we don't need that.
01:04:31.068 --> 01:04:33.833
They will not make the Super Bowl next year.
01:04:33.833 --> 01:04:37.851
Flat out the Chiefs will not be in the Super Bowl next year.
01:04:39.920 --> 01:04:42.648
If they do, can I call you a hack on live air?
01:04:43.068 --> 01:04:45.324
Sure, sure, but I'm telling you they're not making it.
01:04:45.706 --> 01:04:46.369
I agree with you.
01:04:46.369 --> 01:04:47.621
I don't think they're going to make it either.
01:04:47.621 --> 01:04:49.606
I think they're going to be too beat up from this year.
01:04:49.606 --> 01:04:58.505
To be honest with you, you can't At some point.
01:04:58.746 --> 01:05:01.050
It runs out, Everything runs out.
01:05:01.431 --> 01:05:02.172
We all.
01:05:02.172 --> 01:05:04.063
Exactly, there's a power shift.
01:05:04.063 --> 01:05:06.070
There's power shifts Well, not just power shifts.
01:05:06.070 --> 01:05:10.777
We won't get all funky funky, but all good things come to an end.
01:05:10.777 --> 01:05:12.480
Okay, what goes up must come down.
01:05:12.480 --> 01:05:15.708
You can only keep the momentum rolling for so long.
01:05:16.110 --> 01:05:20.487
Exactly, but I tell you what this team looks like.
01:05:20.487 --> 01:05:24.333
They gave every single ounce and spirit.
01:05:24.333 --> 01:05:33.931
They had to beat the Buffalo Bills previously in the championship and made it into the Super Bowl and they had nothing left.
01:05:34.280 --> 01:05:37.650
Look, let me tell you what the Bills want.
01:05:37.650 --> 01:05:40.059
Nothing compared to the beat down Philly.
01:05:40.059 --> 01:05:41.143
Just put on them folks.
01:05:41.362 --> 01:05:45.153
Hey, another thing, what the hell?
01:05:45.153 --> 01:05:48.643
I mean as much as people want to go, andy Reid.
01:05:48.663 --> 01:05:51.369
Mike's using inflammatory language no, listen, listen.
01:05:51.871 --> 01:05:56.572
Andy reed is supposed to be this offensive guru, genius right.
01:05:56.572 --> 01:05:59.599
Where were the damn adjustments?
01:05:59.599 --> 01:06:04.068
They came out from half and went three and out.
01:06:04.068 --> 01:06:05.612
Where were your adjustments?
01:06:05.612 --> 01:06:05.871
Yeah?
01:06:05.992 --> 01:06:10.407
I remember that play because the game at that point seemed like it was out of reach.
01:06:10.407 --> 01:06:14.735
But they had to play, just like the Commander's game right against Philly.
01:06:14.735 --> 01:06:26.525
They reached a point where they had to play perfect and, coming out of the half with no points, you knew you had to get on the board and a field goal wasn't going to be enough and they went three and out.
01:06:26.525 --> 01:06:34.766
They didn't even try on fourth down and I know they were fourth and long, but still at that point put it up because you're down.
01:06:35.949 --> 01:06:39.072
Before they even went into half, they almost abandoned the run game.
01:06:39.072 --> 01:06:43.076
There was like no run game at all with either running back.
01:06:46.139 --> 01:06:48.371
They haven't had a terribly good run game all season and they probably just decided.
01:06:48.371 --> 01:06:50.219
You know what these guys are killing us up front.
01:06:50.380 --> 01:06:51.161
And they probably just decided.
01:06:51.161 --> 01:06:52.603
You know what these guys are killing us up front.
01:06:52.603 --> 01:06:58.235
But if Andy Reid is the offensive guru that they say he is, there should have been adjustments.
01:06:58.235 --> 01:07:13.802
There should have been adjustments in the run game and there should have been alternative plays come up with, because all they really did, all they really did to try to break up that pass rush was do quick bubble screens.
01:07:13.802 --> 01:07:19.039
That didn't work out because the dbs were on them the second that they threw it.
01:07:19.099 --> 01:07:29.690
I mean sometimes I'm gonna be honest, mike, sometimes I don't mean to cut you short, no, sometimes you just don't have an answer look when you're in the super bowl.
01:07:30.653 --> 01:07:46.153
You got to come up with something because that just looked like the same thing they went into been into half with that's like they didn't try at all and when they were getting these points later in the game, it was garbage time, touchdowns it was.
01:07:46.153 --> 01:07:50.349
It was really we put our backups in and you scored on our backups.
01:07:50.349 --> 01:07:51.893
That's kind of what happened.
01:07:52.239 --> 01:08:03.228
Yeah, they really only scored in garbage time and even without say, colin Barkley having much of a relevant game outside of like the one short touchdown.
01:08:03.820 --> 01:08:05.527
But you know what his impact was.
01:08:05.527 --> 01:08:09.175
You still had to account for him.
01:08:09.175 --> 01:08:15.983
Credibility you still had to get in the box, because if they handed that ball off to him and he broke through.
01:08:15.983 --> 01:08:19.789
You weren't tackling him with one DB.
01:08:21.113 --> 01:08:21.713
Hey, guess what?
01:08:21.713 --> 01:08:24.488
Josh Allen's not a Super Bowl champion.
01:08:24.488 --> 01:08:27.207
Jaden Daniels is not a Super Bowl champion.
01:08:27.207 --> 01:08:31.149
Kenny Pickett is a Super Bowl champion.
01:08:33.682 --> 01:08:34.948
Well, he did play in the game.
01:08:34.948 --> 01:08:38.288
I was going to say from the bench, but he did come in in garbage time.
01:08:38.590 --> 01:08:42.622
Could you imagine what's it like having to buy his ring?
01:08:42.962 --> 01:08:44.823
No, think about this he gets one stone.
01:08:44.823 --> 01:08:45.762
Think about this one.
01:08:45.762 --> 01:08:47.123
Think about this one.
01:08:47.123 --> 01:08:53.837
He's played more time in the Super Bowl than Dak Prescott.
01:08:53.837 --> 01:09:02.454
Oh my God, I should have said, who would have had that on their bingo card?
01:09:02.454 --> 01:09:06.332
Like, kenny Pickett has more time playing in the Super Bowl than Dak Prescott.
01:09:07.355 --> 01:09:07.896
I couldn't.
01:09:07.896 --> 01:09:10.650
That's funny as hell.
01:09:10.650 --> 01:09:13.331
So Dak Prescott actually came out.
01:09:13.331 --> 01:09:18.332
I wish of other places, but came out publicly.
01:09:18.332 --> 01:09:21.253
I think he was on X or some stupid thing.
01:09:21.253 --> 01:09:30.456
I don't pay attention to a lot of social media, but he said point blank that Cowboys are going to be in the Super Bowl next year.
01:09:31.244 --> 01:09:32.689
He's been hanging out with Jerry too long.
01:09:32.689 --> 01:09:34.734
They're both getting.
01:09:34.734 --> 01:09:35.657
He's getting.
01:09:35.657 --> 01:09:41.335
Whatever Jerry's been taking or doing to make him so delusional, he's been doing the same thing.
01:09:42.225 --> 01:09:43.532
I'm going to deviate for a second again.
01:09:43.532 --> 01:09:46.094
That was another meme I saw related to the Super Bowl.
01:09:46.094 --> 01:09:49.332
It was the Scooby-Doo crew.
01:09:49.332 --> 01:09:52.573
They're all there, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy's there.
01:09:52.573 --> 01:09:54.261
They a Scooby-Doo crew?
01:09:54.261 --> 01:09:54.712
Okay, and they're all there.
01:09:54.712 --> 01:09:56.368
And Scooby-Doo and Shaggy's there.
01:09:56.368 --> 01:10:10.893
They're about to pull off the mask of what is Patrick Mahomes' face and they pull it off and the next screen down is Dak Prescott in a Chiefs uniform Posing as Patrick Mahomes.
01:10:11.426 --> 01:10:26.377
They got a lot of problems and a lot of needs, and you know they need to figure something out, because now Philly has two Super Bowls in the last 10 years and Dallas hasn't even gotten into the NFC Championship game.
01:10:26.377 --> 01:10:31.608
So Dallas needs to just sit back and shut up until you've done something.
01:10:31.849 --> 01:10:34.210
Who would have thought Dallas needs to just sit back and shut up until you've done something?
01:10:34.210 --> 01:10:34.690
Who would have thought?
01:10:34.690 --> 01:10:39.734
I mean the Commanders just recently made the conference championship game and the Cowboys still.
01:10:39.734 --> 01:10:54.965
Both Jalen Hurts and Jaden Daniels were born, grew up, went through high school, went to college, won Heismans, made it to the NFL, one of two made and won the Super Bowl and the other one made the conference championship.
01:10:54.965 --> 01:10:59.734
All before the Cowboys and Dak Prescott have done such things.
01:11:01.018 --> 01:11:02.326
Yeah Again.
01:11:02.326 --> 01:11:08.510
No one on social media has ever posted or said the words Cowboys have won the Super Bowl.
01:11:08.791 --> 01:11:09.212
Literally.
01:11:09.212 --> 01:11:12.533
Ever, or even about the playoffs, for that matter.
01:11:12.533 --> 01:11:15.908
No, they've won a playoff game game.
01:11:15.908 --> 01:11:18.074
No, they got knocked out in the first round.
01:11:18.074 --> 01:11:31.914
They went one and done it was last time, yeah which was against the packers around the relevancy of social media.
01:11:32.716 --> 01:11:38.831
But yeah, so it's always something we can rely on you know, one of those constants.
01:11:39.886 --> 01:11:46.904
Now we do have one more interesting thing to draw off of this Super Bowl.
01:11:46.904 --> 01:11:54.489
Okay, and this one's a little more lighthearted Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Bucker Okay, this is how angry people were with him.
01:11:54.489 --> 01:12:00.292
More lighthearted Kansas State Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker Okay, this is how angry people were with him, all right.
01:12:00.292 --> 01:12:14.274
While many quickly made their way off the field and changed in the locker room and left, somebody stole Butker's clothes, somebody stole his pre-match suit.
01:12:14.274 --> 01:12:22.114
He was left with only his towel after the game now, no that, that just begs to ask.
01:12:22.154 --> 01:12:29.752
Was it a teammate trying to, trying to get some payback on him or play a trick on him, or was this an angry, you know?
01:12:30.012 --> 01:12:32.395
no, this was definitely an inside job.
01:12:32.395 --> 01:12:33.537
This was a teammate.
01:12:33.537 --> 01:12:35.100
Somebody took that.
01:12:35.445 --> 01:12:51.292
Somebody took his clothes and said you're not welcome here anymore hey, I don't know what they're mad at the kicker, for the kicker didn't even have anything to do with this game, really yeah, but either way it's kind of hilarious.
01:12:51.854 --> 01:12:53.877
I don't know what he ended up doing.
01:12:53.877 --> 01:12:55.739
Maybe he just went home in a towel.
01:12:55.760 --> 01:13:03.170
It wasn't terribly bad weather to have a super bowl I'm sure they just gave him some you know workout gear, like here's some sweats.
01:13:03.591 --> 01:13:16.037
So yeah, he's home, here's here's some uh some football bottoms without the pads in them yeah, yeah so you know some spandex, uh, you know.
01:13:16.037 --> 01:13:18.761
Interesting now, as this is going on.
01:13:18.761 --> 01:13:28.336
The rest of the league while the suit, while these two teams were preparing for the super bowl, the rest of the league is in wind down mode and getting ready for nfl free agency.
01:13:28.676 --> 01:13:38.975
Well, it's here, I would say the players in wind down mode, but the this is the time for all the GMs to start getting busy and working out deals and trying to figure out what they're doing.
01:13:40.127 --> 01:13:43.377
This is when smoke season starts to really become smoke season here.
01:13:43.377 --> 01:13:49.238
But let's start off with a big one the Jets and Aaron Rodgers splitting ways.
01:13:49.238 --> 01:13:54.095
We'll get to the details of that, but also splitting ways with him.
01:13:54.095 --> 01:13:58.256
They're likely to split ways as well as with Devontae Adams.
01:13:58.256 --> 01:14:07.777
His cap number, after all is said and done, after the June 1st deadline will drop to around $38 million.
01:14:07.777 --> 01:14:13.911
He'd have to agree to a new, new deal to stay.
01:14:13.911 --> 01:14:17.037
Um, I think aaron rogers deal.
01:14:17.037 --> 01:14:19.912
They're in for some decreases.
01:14:19.912 --> 01:14:23.320
I think it's like a 51 million dollar dead cap hit.
01:14:23.320 --> 01:14:32.335
But I think after the june 1st uh deadline, mike I I think it drops to something like 35 million dead cap.
01:14:32.335 --> 01:14:38.913
I mean they're eating a significant amount of cap space to part ways with this quarterback.
01:14:38.913 --> 01:14:40.591
What is the motivation here?
01:14:40.591 --> 01:14:56.681
I mean, obviously there's new coaching staff coming in and the previous coaching staff and GM told Aaron Rodgers yeah, I know, I know so I'm getting to it.
01:14:56.702 --> 01:15:00.436
There's just a lot revolving around this, but let's go ahead and get your opinion here.
01:15:00.436 --> 01:15:01.925
I'll pick up where I'm going in a second.
01:15:01.925 --> 01:15:04.914
Go ahead and dive into this with me for a second okay.
01:15:04.935 --> 01:15:13.078
So part of what's going on here is usually when you get a new coach, they want their, their guy, they want to start their system.
01:15:13.078 --> 01:15:16.106
And they did have a meeting with rogers.
01:15:16.106 --> 01:15:20.377
Rogers did fly out, sit down and talk with the coach and kind of feel out.
01:15:20.377 --> 01:15:34.657
You know the situation and part of that conversation was saying hey, we need you to be present, you need to be a minicamp, you can't go take noations and we need you to not be a distraction.
01:15:34.657 --> 01:15:39.469
So this Pat McAfee once a week stuff, that's got to stop, you've got to be fully in.
01:15:39.488 --> 01:15:40.532
You've got to be fully involved.
01:15:40.532 --> 01:15:49.216
And apparently from that conversation they didn't feel that was where they were with Aaron, so they just basically said alright we're done.
01:15:51.207 --> 01:15:58.329
That has led to a lot of speculatory conversations about what's going to happen, who's going to go where?
01:15:58.329 --> 01:16:00.429
Because I mean Rodgers.
01:16:00.429 --> 01:16:06.014
If you looked at him the last nine games of the year, he actually was playing pretty decent.
01:16:06.014 --> 01:16:11.951
So it's not like Rodgers is shot, he's coming off an Achilles injury.
01:16:11.951 --> 01:16:24.511
He, he might not be the player he once was, but if you need a guy to kind of just look play for you for a year or two and be the bridge to a better quarterback or the future quarterback.
01:16:25.274 --> 01:16:33.658
That's kind of what you got here with him it's the circus that they don't want to deal with, and man that that Pat McAfee is some guy huh.
01:16:33.658 --> 01:16:44.494
Look going from podcast host to also WWE announcer and whatever else he does.
01:16:44.494 --> 01:16:48.893
Yeah, I was going to get on that too.
01:16:48.893 --> 01:16:52.636
They told Rodgers yo don't go on Pat McAfee's show.
01:16:52.636 --> 01:16:57.426
Obviously didn't listen.
01:16:57.426 --> 01:16:58.948
Rodgers is clearly gonna live life.
01:16:58.967 --> 01:17:08.652
Uh, on his own terms what you got for me so, part of the yes, he will try to live out the way he wants to live and not listen to anybody.
01:17:08.652 --> 01:17:11.488
Yeah, so that's kind of why he's in the situation he's in.
01:17:11.488 --> 01:17:17.051
But one of the rumors we've been hearing uh, is possibly going to the steelers.
01:17:17.051 --> 01:17:36.838
So when this rumor was kind of spread around and it's been floating in circles people have heard this uh, it got some comments from some from a steelers player, uh, so steelers safety deshaun Elliott commented on this on Instagram.
01:17:36.838 --> 01:17:48.842
That's all Posting and making it clear he does not want Rodgers as a Pittsburgh Steeler the new quarterback or as their new quarterback in 2025.
01:17:48.842 --> 01:17:49.425
What did he say?
01:17:49.425 --> 01:17:59.649
He says leave his ass at the retirement home because he does not want an aaron rogers on his team.
01:17:59.649 --> 01:18:07.487
So I think that's pretty clear cut look first they're not sold on rogers coming in and being the
01:18:07.506 --> 01:18:14.719
savior in pittsburgh aaron rogers and tom and uh, mike Tomlin are not a good mix.
01:18:14.719 --> 01:18:16.490
They're not going to mix at all.
01:18:16.771 --> 01:18:16.993
Look.
01:18:17.545 --> 01:18:22.797
Tomlin's too hard-nosed and Mike Rodgers is too liberal okay.
01:18:22.885 --> 01:18:24.091
Okay, hold on, hold on.
01:18:24.091 --> 01:18:52.097
You're telling me that the man that kept AB under wraps with his personality and Le'Veon Bell under wraps with his personality and kept a number of players throughout the years under wraps with their personalities, can't handle dealing with an Aaron Rodgers when he dealt with some of the just most outlandish players over the years.
01:18:52.097 --> 01:18:54.351
Look, I think Mike Tomlin can handle it.
01:18:54.465 --> 01:18:56.632
No, it's not that he can't handle it.
01:18:56.632 --> 01:18:59.399
Aaron Rodgers is a different breed of circus, okay.
01:19:00.404 --> 01:19:01.649
He comes with a circus.
01:19:02.324 --> 01:19:03.087
Antonio Brown.
01:19:03.087 --> 01:19:12.077
When Antonio Brown was getting at his worst, they jettisoned his ass fast and, by the way, if you recall, for not very much compensation.
01:19:12.077 --> 01:19:15.047
They straight let him walk, almost damn near.
01:19:15.047 --> 01:19:16.975
Basically let him go Okay.
01:19:17.746 --> 01:19:27.252
Honestly, if they got any compensation, it kind of almost feels like they bamboozled the Raiders when they did that, because he didn't stay with the Raiders very long.
01:19:27.545 --> 01:19:28.850
No, no, he did not.
01:19:28.850 --> 01:19:36.497
No, oh, but you know, antonio Brown, what else?
01:19:36.497 --> 01:19:43.297
Anyway, aaron Rodgers, the circus that is Aaron Rodgers.
01:19:43.297 --> 01:20:02.051
First of all, it's not that Tomlin can't handle him or keep him under wraps, it's that Rodgers is very open and public and moody and moody and moody, and especially when he's in discontent, the world knows about it, whether they want him to or not.
01:20:02.051 --> 01:20:08.131
Now, tomlin and him, personality-wise, I'm telling you right now them two are going to clash.
01:20:08.131 --> 01:20:12.876
First of all, tomlin loves his run game.
01:20:12.876 --> 01:20:14.158
Okay, don't get me wrong.
01:20:14.177 --> 01:20:14.698
Tomlin loves his run game.
01:20:14.717 --> 01:20:24.592
Okay, don't get wrong, tomlin loves his run game but answer me this why was he making goo goo eyes at Aaron Rodgers when he was still at the Packers and he knew it was his last year?
01:20:25.067 --> 01:20:35.412
those aren't goo goo eyes, those are cookie monster eyes, and he wanted to eat them okay whatever wanted to eat them.
01:20:35.412 --> 01:20:53.775
Okay, whatever look shut down look bottom line, they need a quarterback, but they do need a quarterback, because justin fields is not the answer, and neither is russell wilson and r Russ, we do not trust.
01:20:54.305 --> 01:20:58.953
Speaking of Steelers, they've got a game in Dublin Ireland next year.
01:20:59.012 --> 01:20:59.534
Dublin.
01:21:00.206 --> 01:21:04.453
Don't know who the opponent is yet, but they will be playing a game overseas this next season.
01:21:05.145 --> 01:21:10.092
Yeah, and didn't they speaking of them needing a quarterback?
01:21:10.092 --> 01:21:13.454
They've inquired recently about somebody.
01:21:14.265 --> 01:21:18.296
Yes, the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Sunshine.
01:21:18.465 --> 01:21:22.556
You really think that the Jaguars entertain these trade talks?
01:21:23.506 --> 01:21:37.618
Look, I think the Steelers wanted this to be on the down low and it came out because Jacksonville's like no, bro, we're not trading our quarterback to you, sorry, bro.
01:21:37.618 --> 01:21:40.095
This was them outing the Steelers.
01:21:40.095 --> 01:21:50.292
That's what this is yeah so what this tells me is Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, they don't like either of them, no they're not the answer.
01:21:50.292 --> 01:21:51.671
They're not the answer in Pittsburgh.
01:21:51.765 --> 01:21:52.288
And Russ we do not trust.
01:21:52.288 --> 01:21:52.610
No, no, I mean no.
01:21:52.631 --> 01:21:54.543
They're not the answer, they're not the answer in Pittsburgh and Russ we do not trust.
01:21:54.543 --> 01:21:57.234
No, no, I mean, look, let's not get twisted.
01:21:57.234 --> 01:22:00.073
They won a lot of games with Russ.
01:22:00.073 --> 01:22:10.475
Now they don't have very many options because they're back in the later part of the draft and this is not a strong quarterback draft.
01:22:10.475 --> 01:22:14.524
This is not a strong quarterback draft.
01:22:14.524 --> 01:22:20.118
I mean really the two quarterbacks that everybody wants in Cam Ward and Shador Sanders.
01:22:20.118 --> 01:22:20.805
They're going to be gone early.
01:22:20.805 --> 01:22:28.775
So unless you start giving up stuff to move up, you're not getting one of the premier quarterbacks out of this year's draft.
01:22:28.775 --> 01:22:33.235
So they've got to seriously ask themselves where they are.
01:22:33.235 --> 01:22:39.453
Are they a rebuild or are they going to sit here and try to limp along and keep, keep up?
01:22:39.533 --> 01:22:49.390
the never had a losing season yeah, and, and there were trade rumors actually for the last couple years, trade rumors surrounding mike tomlin as well.
01:22:49.390 --> 01:22:57.596
I don't think they're going to do that, but it's going to be interesting to see what the Steelers do going forward, because they have historically been a really solid franchise.
01:22:57.596 --> 01:23:18.479
They've been rather efficient overall and they seem to generally, more times than not, come out with a winning record, and even under Tomlin, you know, and even before him, playoff competitive to an extent.
01:23:18.479 --> 01:23:26.948
So they they have their rough times, but they seem to not let them get too rough before they pick it back up again, right.
01:23:26.948 --> 01:23:33.173
So it's interesting to see, interesting to see, how this plays out, uh, especially with their draft position.
01:23:37.005 --> 01:23:40.836
Yeah, they're not in any way, shape or form, in a spot where they could get one of the quarterbacks out of this year.
01:23:41.646 --> 01:23:43.293
No, I don't think they'd take a quarterback.
01:23:43.293 --> 01:23:56.310
But maybe they find a quarterback somewhere for the agency and then maybe they draft a high-caliber player to come in and play alongside or eventually replace uh pickens well, pickens isn't there.
01:23:56.350 --> 01:23:56.992
He's with the eagles.
01:23:57.091 --> 01:23:58.615
Oh yeah, that's right, they moved into the eagles.
01:23:58.615 --> 01:24:00.289
My bad, I'm so far behind.
01:24:00.992 --> 01:24:09.912
Yeah, you guys, we just talked about him being on the eagles, listen so sometimes my mind goes back in history and I just we just roll with it, uh.
01:24:09.912 --> 01:24:21.400
But moving on, uh, from the steelers another person that may or may not be on the move it seems like he's setting up the, the playing field to look like he's on the move.
01:24:21.400 --> 01:24:27.234
So yesterday it was made publicly known james cook is ready for an extension.
01:24:27.234 --> 01:24:29.246
He's coming to the last year of his rookie deal.
01:24:29.246 --> 01:24:37.506
Uh, today he has scrubbed everything buffalo bills related from all of his social media.
01:24:37.506 --> 01:24:39.229
How do you read this, mike?
01:24:41.134 --> 01:24:47.912
I read this like every player who's done it since this, since he's done it fair enough it's.
01:24:47.912 --> 01:24:49.475
It's basically what it is.
01:24:49.475 --> 01:24:52.488
It's the play to try to get an extension.
01:24:52.488 --> 01:24:54.905
He doesn't want to leave, he just wants his money.
01:24:54.905 --> 01:24:56.951
He wants his extension, he wants it now.
01:24:56.951 --> 01:25:12.617
Now granted, this is not the draft to be acting like I want my money or I want out, because this is a very strong draft for running backs yeah, this is a heavy draft.
01:25:12.756 --> 01:25:31.451
If you are trying to push on a team to pay me now and pay me big time dollars, they could easily just be like no yeah, you could play out your contract and we're going to draft your replacement and and honestly they marty they might already have their replacement in house.
01:25:31.532 --> 01:25:35.345
Ray davis is is rather he's not bad, to be honest with you.
01:25:35.404 --> 01:25:40.096
No, but you need more than one running back, as shown by my 49ers.
01:25:40.096 --> 01:25:41.430
You need more than one running back.
01:25:41.524 --> 01:25:42.467
You need more than one.
01:25:42.467 --> 01:25:46.470
But maybe, like you say, they say all right, forget you.
01:25:46.470 --> 01:25:49.631
James Cut, ray Davis, move up the death board.
01:25:49.631 --> 01:25:51.492
Then they draft a running back.
01:25:51.585 --> 01:25:52.987
I don't think it's going to get that desperate.
01:25:52.987 --> 01:25:54.970
I, davis, move up the dead board, then they go draft a running back.
01:25:54.970 --> 01:25:56.350
I don't think it's going to get that desperate.
01:25:56.350 --> 01:25:57.011
I think they'll pay him.
01:25:57.011 --> 01:25:59.295
They've got to find what works for both parties and it'll get worked out.
01:25:59.295 --> 01:26:02.980
I don't think this is a situation where it's so bad they're going to kick him to the curb.
01:26:04.524 --> 01:26:05.546
No, I agree with that.
01:26:05.546 --> 01:26:13.648
Obviously he brings some significant value and he was a big part of their success this year, majorly.
01:26:13.648 --> 01:26:16.547
I think they recognize that and, like you say, I think they'll get that.
01:26:16.547 --> 01:26:18.755
I just want to play a little devil's advocate there, you know?
01:26:18.755 --> 01:26:21.931
Yeah, yeah, uh, let's get on to some personnel action here.
01:26:21.931 --> 01:26:43.737
Uh, going back to the college game for just a brief second, marshall falk uh, all-star running back of the NFL, former all-star running back of the NFL, joining Coach Prime's team at Colorado University as his running back coach, coach Prime Deion Sanders, obviously looking to upgrade his staff, upgrade his team's performance.
01:26:44.556 --> 01:26:46.378
Yeah, I mean he's already got Warren Sapp there.
01:26:46.979 --> 01:26:54.447
Honestly, I like the influx of former players coming out to be head coaches this year, especially in the college ranks.
01:26:55.470 --> 01:26:59.121
Yeah, it's, we'll see, we'll see the success that comes from it.
01:26:59.121 --> 01:27:25.976
I mean, we've seen a lot of players go into coaching and kind of fizzle out and not be not be so great, but it's good to see that these guys that you know are kind of bigger names get into the coaching ranks and actually have some success, because we've we've all seen the, the backup quarterback who becomes a good coach, or you know the defensive player that became a great defensive coach.
01:27:26.478 --> 01:27:28.105
case in point, like the Jets now have.
01:27:28.105 --> 01:27:31.411
You know their new coach, who was a defensive player.
01:27:31.411 --> 01:27:41.655
Yeah, so I mean it's happened time and time again where players become coaches, and you know it doesn't mean you have to be a player to be a coach.
01:27:41.655 --> 01:27:47.813
It's just, you know, sometimes through years of being a player, you pick up on how to become a coach.
01:27:48.345 --> 01:27:51.555
And your contacts and your former players that you played alongside.
01:27:51.555 --> 01:27:58.735
They become coaches and sometimes those contacts reach out to you to pull you into that realm.
01:27:58.735 --> 01:27:59.278
That happens.
01:28:00.225 --> 01:28:02.572
Speaking of former players becoming a coach.
01:28:02.572 --> 01:28:04.096
Exactly, kellen Moore.
01:28:04.864 --> 01:28:10.657
Now the new head coach of New Orleans Saints, where we just had our recent Super Bowl.
01:28:10.837 --> 01:28:11.698
Yeah, he didn't have to leave.
01:28:11.984 --> 01:28:15.135
He didn't have to leave because he obviously had the job interview there.
01:28:15.135 --> 01:28:21.271
Honestly, this is a nice under-the-radar pickup for me and I know we were talking about it the other day.
01:28:21.271 --> 01:28:26.774
Good move for the salary cap as well, because they don't have a lot to work with, right, they're a little bit limited.
01:28:26.774 --> 01:28:30.314
They're not planning on going out and getting big-name players.
01:28:30.314 --> 01:28:39.007
They might not make any splashy moves in the draft.
01:28:39.007 --> 01:28:40.050
Kellen moore is a good coach.
01:28:40.050 --> 01:28:41.313
I remember him as a player.
01:28:41.313 --> 01:28:42.716
I remember when he came out of boise state.
01:28:42.716 --> 01:28:47.185
By the way, fun fact, kellen moore, uh, boise state, I forget which college, uh, derrick car played for the time.
01:28:47.185 --> 01:28:52.195
But those teams met and kellen moore's team blew his team out in the college ranks.
01:28:52.917 --> 01:28:53.819
No, I'm sure that'll come up.
01:28:54.125 --> 01:29:04.199
So now that Kellen Moore is at least for a little bit, if nothing longer Derek Carr's head coach, I'm interested to see that relationship unfold.
01:29:04.600 --> 01:29:04.720
Yeah.
01:29:05.185 --> 01:29:21.452
I'm interested to see what Kellen Moore brings, because he did a good job with the offense, although I wonder how much of it was Nick Sirianni's design, but before that former offensive coordinator of the Cowboys, so he made a slight switch there.
01:29:22.404 --> 01:29:24.784
So Kellen Moore had a couple of stops.
01:29:24.784 --> 01:29:31.657
He's been with five different teams and he's been successful in all of those destinations.
01:29:31.657 --> 01:29:34.909
As far as a coordinator is concerned, he's a really smart guy.
01:29:35.345 --> 01:29:41.458
But the interesting part about this is he wasn't the first choice for the Saints.
01:29:41.458 --> 01:29:48.658
The Saints actually made it quite clear that they were very, very heavily interested in Cliff Kingsbury.
01:29:48.658 --> 01:29:52.675
They told him they would gladly pick him up.
01:29:52.675 --> 01:29:57.186
It's his if he wants it right.
01:29:57.186 --> 01:29:58.590
And it's his if he wants it right, it's his if he wants it.
01:29:58.590 --> 01:30:01.076
Cliff Kingsbury came out and told him I'm good.
01:30:01.076 --> 01:30:03.506
He said I don't want to leave Washington.
01:30:03.506 --> 01:30:06.994
I want to stay the offensive coordinator here in Washington.
01:30:07.095 --> 01:30:18.956
I like what I have here and honestly, and that is a smart move because they're in cap hell and they've got a lot of needs and not much to build with.
01:30:20.146 --> 01:30:21.230
And I'll give it to you.
01:30:21.551 --> 01:30:22.012
An aging team.
01:30:22.604 --> 01:30:25.033
It's a total 180 from what he's got in Washington.
01:30:25.033 --> 01:30:36.738
He'd be going from a recently successful overnight team that has, by the way, a ton of cap space 89 million million to work with to build even further.
01:30:36.738 --> 01:30:39.975
He'd be going to a team that doesn't have much money.
01:30:39.975 --> 01:30:40.806
They don't have.
01:30:40.806 --> 01:30:46.110
I mean, they got talent but it's aging it's aging he's going to have to work with it.
01:30:46.605 --> 01:30:48.024
It's not exactly a great move for him.
01:30:48.024 --> 01:30:53.158
So, logically, yes, you would think, okay, yeah, he's going to stay in Washington.
01:30:53.158 --> 01:30:57.810
But there's another as uh aspect to this here that I'm seeing.
01:30:57.810 --> 01:31:07.771
That just goes to say a lot about the culture that they've built in washington, uh, just this year alone under josh harris and dan quinn.
01:31:07.771 --> 01:31:19.935
Right, uh, because typically most coaches even former head coaches, some of them are eager to get back into the saddle.
01:31:19.935 --> 01:31:29.771
Some of them take a step back into college ranks for a little bit, take coordinator rank, but usually after a year, like Kingsbury's had, they're looking to step back up.
01:31:29.771 --> 01:31:47.756
Kingsbury not so much, which I think, aside from the fledgling situation in New Orleans, compounded with the positive situation in Washington, was a no-brainer, if you ask me.
01:31:48.345 --> 01:32:07.804
Well, I think the situation staying there is good for him because of the fact that it's a situation where there's more positives and goods for him, Because one you're just the offensive coordinator, so you don't have to organize the whole team, you just got to worry about your thing and his thing is offense.
01:32:07.804 --> 01:32:13.877
He's a good offensive-minded coordinator who he fits for them right now.
01:32:13.877 --> 01:32:26.554
If he goes to the Saints, he would then become the head coach and be the guy and everybody's looking at you to get it done and get it started and get things going.
01:32:27.145 --> 01:32:44.453
And because you just had all the success in Washington, they're expecting that you're going to be coming there and hit the ground running Now, whereas with Kellen Moore, yeah, he's had multiple stops and had a lot of, like you know, here for a year, there for a year kind of deals.
01:32:44.453 --> 01:32:48.095
So to become a head coach he has a little more stability.
01:32:48.095 --> 01:32:55.118
So he gets a little more runway than a Cliff Kingsbury, even though he is the offensive coordinator for a Super Bowl team.
01:32:55.118 --> 01:33:07.953
He gets a little more leeway and a little more runway because he's not sitting there with the least amount of stuff that Cliff Kingsbury does with the situation he's in.
01:33:07.953 --> 01:33:11.391
He's not building with few pieces.
01:33:11.391 --> 01:33:22.210
As you know, in Kellen Moore's situation he's coming off the best offensive line, two of the best receivers, the best running back.
01:33:22.210 --> 01:33:29.253
So, yeah, they're going to give him a little more leeway when he has lesser yeah, and I want to add to that.
01:33:30.065 --> 01:33:31.672
I agree with everything you said.
01:33:31.672 --> 01:33:38.615
And the situation, obviously, situation obviously, yeah, there'd be higher expectations with a coach like kingsbury coming in immediately.
01:33:38.615 --> 01:33:50.890
The situation in new orleans, uh, would set him up for, would not set him up for success, okay, it would set him for for it for failure, but having a limited situation.
01:33:50.890 --> 01:34:02.912
So kella moellen Moore is a smart guy and he's been relatively successful everywhere he's been and I remember when he hung up the cleats to pick up the clipboard, okay, that was significant Because it really wasn't a huge announcement.
01:34:04.908 --> 01:34:14.171
So this is the perfect situation when you're limited, when you're in cap hell and you're limited and your roster is kind of aging, but you've got to gotta bring some influx somewhere.
01:34:14.171 --> 01:34:21.389
This is the perfect situation for a hands-on coach, for a knowledgeable coach who does it.
01:34:21.389 --> 01:34:26.164
Maybe, yeah, anybody would do good when they had a shit ton of money to spend.
01:34:26.164 --> 01:34:36.817
But this is where you bring in a young coach who may have really some actual coaching knowledge and potential to get these guys to a competitive level.
01:34:36.817 --> 01:34:43.332
They might not make the playoffs year one or even year two, and you know what, but you know.
01:34:43.805 --> 01:34:53.472
You want to see progress, you want to see progress and you want to see competitiveness and you want to see enough that they could at least be in contention to win the division first one or two years.
01:34:53.472 --> 01:35:07.774
Right, I believe, kellen Moore, this is a perfect situation as a young coach, to come in and prove what you have, that you don't need money to win, that you've got it, you can teach, you can teach and you can coach and you can rule them out.
01:35:08.024 --> 01:35:08.747
It's going to take.
01:35:08.747 --> 01:35:23.850
Also, they've got to get with the gm and they got to figure out what they're going to do with the players they have and figure out who they're going to keep and figure out what they're going to do as far as the draft is concerned and and just see where the chips are going to fall, because yeah, they will.
01:35:23.871 --> 01:35:24.895
They will have.
01:35:24.895 --> 01:35:33.377
They'll go over the scheme that they want to implement and figure out what players fit and what players don't, and then they'll figure out how to move from there.
01:35:33.444 --> 01:35:39.475
Well, and they also got to figure out who wants to be there and who doesn't, because there's also going to be players that want to move on.
01:35:39.475 --> 01:35:46.514
This is kind of probably why they moved on from Marshawn Lattimore's cap room, and they probably felt he didn't want to stay.
01:35:46.824 --> 01:35:47.367
Well, cap room.
01:35:47.367 --> 01:35:48.551
He probably wanted out.
01:35:48.551 --> 01:35:50.228
He was dealing with injuries.
01:35:50.228 --> 01:36:04.430
We'll see how that plays out this coming season in Washington, the last one we have, and I'm not big for bringing up negative news, but this is one we really had to dive into.
01:36:04.430 --> 01:36:16.725
Mike Cam Newton this guy blasts his former teammates, and actually one of them clapping back at him.
01:36:16.725 --> 01:36:19.792
He called his former team a bunch of losers before he got there.
01:36:19.792 --> 01:36:27.216
How do you, how do you talk about a franchise, even if it may or may not have been the case, even if things were a little rough?
01:36:27.216 --> 01:36:32.916
How do you talk about a franchise who drafted you so highly and thought of you so highly?
01:36:32.916 --> 01:36:34.064
How do you talk about them?
01:36:34.064 --> 01:36:37.653
Like that sneeze steve smith coming out and clapping back at him?
01:36:38.454 --> 01:37:01.278
so what he said he was on, he was on the travis hunter podcast and he tells travis hunter he said says you could probably be picked up or you could probably be the first pick, but, bro, you have no way of impacting the game the way that a quarterback does.
01:37:01.278 --> 01:37:15.784
He says you can be a lockdown number one receiver, you can make impact players on offense all you want, but it's still not like a quarterback.
01:37:15.784 --> 01:37:28.452
My issue is that when I was the first pick, I went to a locker room of losers Just honest.
01:37:28.452 --> 01:37:31.514
Guys didn't know how to win.
01:37:31.514 --> 01:37:33.591
Guys didn't know how to win.
01:37:33.591 --> 01:37:34.555
Guys didn't know how to prepare.
01:37:34.555 --> 01:37:43.738
They didn't take themselves seriously or serious to realize that they was 2-14.
01:37:43.738 --> 01:37:59.087
There was a lot of 2-14 mentality of those guys, mentality of those guys.
01:37:59.106 --> 01:38:00.128
So Steve Smith, who is going to be a Hall of Famer?
01:38:00.128 --> 01:38:02.234
Because Steve Smith was one hell of a receiver and an undersized receiver.
01:38:02.234 --> 01:38:12.877
So the fact that he's going to be a Hall of Famer makes it even more special, but he was not having it well, yeah, because he was not having it.
01:38:12.896 --> 01:38:15.940
Well, yeah, because he was part of those teams before Cam was there.
01:38:16.145 --> 01:38:17.731
Exactly exactly.
01:38:17.731 --> 01:38:22.175
You know, he put on social media.
01:38:22.175 --> 01:38:26.614
He was like 53 men locker room minus one, 52 losers.
01:38:26.614 --> 01:38:31.305
Wow, breaking news to 89 because he wore 89.
01:38:31.305 --> 01:38:33.507
And he went on to 89, because he wore 89.
01:38:33.507 --> 01:38:41.119
Yeah, and he went on to say I've watched and listened from afar, meaning you, Cam Newton.
01:38:41.500 --> 01:38:41.680
Yeah.
01:38:43.771 --> 01:38:45.055
Talk about the Panthers.
01:38:45.055 --> 01:38:47.971
None of us are perfect.
01:38:47.971 --> 01:38:58.233
We were 2-14 because you blessed us with your presence or before you blessed us with your presence.
01:38:58.233 --> 01:39:05.057
The way you talk about the Panthers lately, I'm very disappointed.
01:39:05.057 --> 01:39:10.305
I wish you nothing but the best, but I am done Like.
01:39:10.305 --> 01:39:29.274
Steve Smith went on to say some other stuff through other outlets, but he did not like this from Cam and, to be honest, I feel like most of what you're getting from Cam right now this is Cam trying to search for relevance because the man ain't relevant anymore.
01:39:30.274 --> 01:39:31.385
I mean, look at the way he dresses.
01:39:31.385 --> 01:39:36.730
He does his best impression of clinton portis so well.
01:39:36.730 --> 01:39:39.256
It's peacocking it really.
01:39:39.417 --> 01:39:40.158
That's what it is.
01:39:40.158 --> 01:39:49.359
Cam does these flamboyant things, dresses the way he does not because I mean he wants to be, you know, some fashion designer.
01:39:49.418 --> 01:40:03.328
He does it because he wants people to pay attention to him he showed up in person to travis hunter's sideline in colorado to confront him about this and travis hunter was like, nah, I'm good bro.
01:40:03.328 --> 01:40:07.997
So I guess he found a way onto the show to say what he wanted to say.
01:40:07.997 --> 01:40:12.333
But uh, look, I don't care how bad the team was doing before you got there.
01:40:12.333 --> 01:40:21.756
You just can't talk negative, man, and you can't make yourself seem like the almighty pillar that brought them up from whatever depth you're saying they were in.
01:40:23.445 --> 01:40:27.095
Also to keep in mind who their quarterback was at that time.
01:40:27.095 --> 01:40:31.551
At that time it was Jimmy Claussen, Captain Checkdown.
01:40:31.551 --> 01:40:40.837
That man was forever thrown to the check down, even if he had guys open deep, he just threw to the check down he was afraid, but he was.
01:40:41.217 --> 01:40:43.871
He wasn't a good quarterback he was a good college quarterback.
01:40:43.912 --> 01:40:47.006
He was not a good quarterback in the nfl.
01:40:47.006 --> 01:40:48.368
You know this is well.
01:40:48.368 --> 01:40:50.070
Yeah, he couldn't read the deep ball.
01:40:50.310 --> 01:40:55.579
And Well, he had a deep ball but he couldn't read the deep man open because coverage is tighter at the NFL.
01:40:57.105 --> 01:41:01.444
Okay, so you can be a good college athlete and not be a good NFL athlete.
01:41:01.444 --> 01:41:04.574
It doesn't take anything from your college career.
01:41:04.574 --> 01:41:17.453
It just means that there's more expected of you and, like you said, the windows are tighter and what is open in the nfl is not open in college, or in college people are wide open.
01:41:17.453 --> 01:41:20.886
I mean they got five yards of separation yeah, it's easy in the nfl.
01:41:20.926 --> 01:41:25.176
You have the best of the best of the best playing on that field.
01:41:25.176 --> 01:41:30.931
Sometimes no, but in theory you have the best of the best, faster you best Speed is faster.
01:41:30.931 --> 01:41:34.377
You're not throwing to a body, You're throwing to hands.
01:41:34.377 --> 01:41:40.291
At this point You're throwing to a window at the NFL level In college.
01:41:40.291 --> 01:41:41.295
You're throwing to a body.
01:41:41.425 --> 01:41:42.548
You're throwing guys open.
01:41:42.548 --> 01:41:44.990
Most times in the NFL You're throwing them open.
01:41:45.125 --> 01:41:49.435
You're throwing exactly where you think their hands are going to be at.
01:41:49.435 --> 01:41:52.947
Okay, that's why they have the repetition In college.
01:41:52.947 --> 01:41:55.849
You aim for the body okay, because they have more separation.
01:41:55.849 --> 01:41:58.073
There's more adjustment at the nfl.
01:41:58.073 --> 01:42:03.993
You aim for where you expect the hands to be at, and that also, yes, you mean lead the receiver.
01:42:03.993 --> 01:42:18.009
Yeah, so you got to know where the receiver's hands are going to be at, at the spot he's going to be in yeah, I mean, it's one of those things where the games are, while they look the same, they're a bit different.
01:42:18.329 --> 01:42:24.871
you know you're spending a lot more time throwing, throwing to the hashes, and you know you're doing a lot more.
01:42:24.871 --> 01:42:28.097
Uh, you're doing a lot more.
01:42:28.097 --> 01:42:38.934
You know leading people open in the n, whereas in college you're got you're just going to see him and he's going to be like shrieking down the field and it's like, oh, he's open, throw it.
01:42:38.934 --> 01:42:40.438
Yeah, where you don't.
01:42:40.438 --> 01:42:42.612
You don't have that anywhere else.
01:42:42.953 --> 01:42:44.027
Yep, now.
01:42:44.027 --> 01:42:48.775
On that note, thank you once again for everybody for tuning in.
01:42:48.775 --> 01:43:09.295
We've set, you know, the uh bittersweetness of phasing out the nfl is one of our dominant subjects, but getting excited for basketball and baseball coming up, uh, in just a couple months, even, in fact, next month, march madness.
01:43:09.295 --> 01:43:11.903
So we've got some great things on the horizon.
01:43:11.903 --> 01:43:13.831
Thank you everybody for joining us this evening.
01:43:13.831 --> 01:43:16.891
Once again, happy pre-Valentine's Day.
01:43:16.891 --> 01:43:17.613
I'm Brian with an.
