אודות פרק זה
Sit down. Both feet flat. Hands on your thighs, palms down.
One breath in. Out slow.
You’re waiting on something. A result. A call back. Somebody else’s decision. And your mind has been working it all day like there’s an answer buried in there somewhere.
Find where you’re holding it. It’s usually the stomach. Sometimes the jaw. Sometimes both.
Look at what your mind has been doing. Running outcomes. If it’s this, then that. If it’s that, then this. It believes that if it thinks hard enough, it can get out ahead of whatever’s coming.
It can’t. And somewhere in there, you already know it can’t.
So let your hands go heavy on your legs.
Let your stomach soften.
Let your shoulders come down.
Nothing has happened yet. The thing you’re bracing for is not in this room. What’s in this room is you, in a chair, breathing.
Whatever it turns out to be, you’ll meet it then, with everything you’ve got. You don’t have to meet it now, forty times, in your head.
Now open your eyes and look around. Find one real thing in front of you. Dishes in the sink. A walk you owe the dog. A text you never answered. Something small that’s actually here.
That’s the piece of this you can do something about. So go do that one.
One more breath. Let the rest come when it comes.
Your Tiny Healing Habit for the Week
What you just did was catch your mind trying to control something it has no access to, and you took your body out of the brace. Then you did the only useful thing available. You found something real and put your hands on it.
This week, practice One Real Thing.
Here’s exactly when to use it: the moment you notice the what-if loop starting, stop and name one real thing in front of you that you can actually do. Then do it. Wipe the counter. Fill the water bottle. Answer the one email. It can take ninety seconds.
Why it works: the loop runs on imaginary material, so there’s no move you can make inside it and no way to finish it. Putting your hands on something physical gives the energy somewhere to go and hands your attention back to the part of your life that’s actually happening. You’re not distracting yourself. You’re doing the work in front of you instead of the work that doesn’t exist yet.
Try it three times this week. You’ll notice the waiting gets a lot more bearable when you’re doing something with your hands while you wait.
