The Stack: Batman, Queen In Black, And More

WEBVTT
00:09.470 --> 00:10.291
[SPEAKER_03]: What is up, everybody?
00:10.311 --> 00:11.932
[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to the Stack on Alex.
00:12.052 --> 00:12.633
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Justin.
00:13.033 --> 00:13.534
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Pete.
00:13.814 --> 00:18.599
[SPEAKER_03]: And on the Stack, we talk about a bunch of comics that have come out this week at Wii U.
00:18.699 --> 00:20.020
[SPEAKER_03]: This very day.
00:20.040 --> 00:22.242
[SPEAKER_03]: That's like this day today.
00:22.542 --> 00:24.745
[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, we get a lot of comments asking about this.
00:24.805 --> 00:26.626
[SPEAKER_03]: How do we put this up so quickly?
00:27.027 --> 00:30.570
[SPEAKER_03]: And the answer is, have you ever seen them from the mixed up files?
00:30.610 --> 00:33.693
[SPEAKER_03]: And Mrs. Basile E. Frank Wilder, where they hide out,
00:34.145 --> 00:37.647
[SPEAKER_03]: in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and they run around to the guard, doesn't catch them.
00:37.947 --> 00:40.348
[SPEAKER_03]: It's the same thing with us, but midtown comics.
00:40.788 --> 00:42.609
[SPEAKER_03]: We go in there right before it closes.
00:43.029 --> 00:45.950
[SPEAKER_03]: Hide behind the Batman statue, so they can't see us.
00:45.970 --> 00:46.871
[SPEAKER_03]: Just give it all the way.
00:46.891 --> 00:53.594
[SPEAKER_03]: And then we're there overnight, so we read it first thing in the morning when the comics get delivered when the news boy throws them against the door.
00:53.634 --> 00:55.595
[SPEAKER_01]: Hide behind the Spider-Man in the staircase.
00:56.115 --> 00:56.415
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
00:56.935 --> 01:02.918
[SPEAKER_04]: And I fight crime all night, so I can prove our bona fides when I show up there as Robin.
01:03.498 --> 01:04.639
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're the referee.
01:04.699 --> 01:05.619
[SPEAKER_01]: I was robbing.
01:07.120 --> 01:08.360
[SPEAKER_04]: Very old robbing.
01:10.921 --> 01:11.722
[SPEAKER_04]: Here's the thing, folks.
01:11.882 --> 01:16.404
[SPEAKER_04]: There's nothing better than a comic still warm when you still fresh.
01:16.424 --> 01:19.625
[SPEAKER_03]: You still, but not off the bros. Yeah, right out of the oven.
01:19.986 --> 01:20.886
[SPEAKER_04]: They got hot cake.
01:21.606 --> 01:24.308
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I like to put a little Nutella on my own.
01:24.328 --> 01:26.549
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think it's like all of the melty and nice.
01:26.629 --> 01:28.069
[SPEAKER_01]: It's really gross, man.
01:28.289 --> 01:28.550
[SPEAKER_03]: Really?
01:29.870 --> 01:33.432
[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, we're going to be talking about a bunch of comic books today and reviewing them.
01:33.472 --> 01:34.692
[SPEAKER_03]: This is going to be full spoilers.
01:34.752 --> 01:36.333
[SPEAKER_03]: So turn away if you don't want spoilers.
01:36.353 --> 01:37.994
[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to go full spoilers for every book.
01:38.054 --> 01:43.996
[SPEAKER_03]: But let's kick it off with Batman number 12 from DC Comics or by Matt Fraction, Art by Jorge.
01:44.016 --> 01:51.079
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm men as we got this clip hanger the last issue that there is a new brother in Tom by the name of Verdi Pennyworth.
01:51.319 --> 01:51.919
[SPEAKER_03]: New part of this.
01:51.940 --> 01:53.320
[SPEAKER_01]: New pretty much just dropped.
01:53.340 --> 01:57.782
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
01:58.362 --> 02:01.404
[SPEAKER_03]: So this issue is a little bit of Batman and Robin tried to figure out.
02:01.424 --> 02:02.905
[SPEAKER_03]: All right, is she for real?
02:03.225 --> 02:04.206
[SPEAKER_03]: Is she legit?
02:04.246 --> 02:05.206
[SPEAKER_03]: Can we trust her?
02:05.306 --> 02:07.888
[SPEAKER_03]: What is going to be her function in this team?
02:08.328 --> 02:13.711
[SPEAKER_03]: At the same time a bunch of unrelated assassins have all fallen on Gotham City.
02:14.092 --> 02:17.013
[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm making some big moves and they're trying to figure that out at the same time.
02:17.454 --> 02:21.776
[SPEAKER_03]: Pete, I want to go to you first because you obviously have some strong feelings about Alpha.
02:21.816 --> 02:23.417
[SPEAKER_04]: You're a real Alfred Freak.
02:23.457 --> 02:24.538
[SPEAKER_04]: Why don't you talk first?
02:25.000 --> 02:41.283
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, how do you feel about this new blonde lady out to soon to soon to soon to soon Hold on, I'm gonna look up the exact date because I feel like it's maybe even been like a decade at this point It's been all the way.
02:41.323 --> 02:49.905
[SPEAKER_04]: It has not been a decade, but it's definitely been like like three plus years of Alpha being on longer than that and let me be honest.
02:50.165 --> 02:52.025
[SPEAKER_04]: We're no one's missing him
02:52.988 --> 02:53.469
[SPEAKER_04]: Everything's fine.
02:53.489 --> 02:55.472
[SPEAKER_04]: That means 77 in 2019, so 7 years ago.
02:55.492 --> 02:55.873
[SPEAKER_03]: Seven years.
02:55.893 --> 02:56.393
[SPEAKER_03]: Two, seven years.
03:06.172 --> 03:08.654
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, I went to you first, Justin, what did you put up with?
03:09.114 --> 03:11.535
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, I really love the villain battles.
03:11.595 --> 03:13.036
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the action was great.
03:13.377 --> 03:14.698
[SPEAKER_01]: The art was fantastic.
03:15.118 --> 03:20.181
[SPEAKER_01]: Junker in the tank was in my favorite, but mad fractions doing a hell of a job.
03:20.862 --> 03:22.183
[SPEAKER_01]: The arts glorious.
03:22.223 --> 03:23.704
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm having a good time with this.
03:23.744 --> 03:26.986
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the new Pennyworth is a little too hot.
03:29.067 --> 03:30.588
[SPEAKER_04]: I think I said this last month.
03:30.688 --> 03:31.788
[SPEAKER_04]: She's too happy about it.
03:31.808 --> 03:32.729
[SPEAKER_04]: Get it right away.
03:32.789 --> 03:34.390
[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, not like it's hot.
03:34.430 --> 03:35.710
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's too hot at the top.
03:35.730 --> 03:37.231
[SPEAKER_01]: But you got to wait for that to cool down.
03:37.271 --> 03:39.172
[SPEAKER_01]: Another seven years before you do this.
03:39.552 --> 03:47.256
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you know that Pete has a thing for Butler and just as a practice, as an employment.
03:47.436 --> 03:50.478
[SPEAKER_04]: Now we have like this high young Butler coming in.
03:50.518 --> 03:52.959
[SPEAKER_04]: Pete's definitely arching his eyebrow.
03:53.379 --> 03:55.282
[SPEAKER_04]: as we know he does.
03:55.963 --> 04:01.050
[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like I said this last month, but I feel like this team is just operating on this comic.
04:01.530 --> 04:07.539
[SPEAKER_04]: We get so much love for absolute Batman right now, but I think this comic is this is a legendary Batman run that's happening here.
04:08.420 --> 04:09.381
[SPEAKER_04]: Really enjoying it.
04:10.562 --> 04:13.806
[SPEAKER_04]: I love all the different killers introducing them.
04:13.906 --> 04:21.373
[SPEAKER_04]: It's like a whole new potential row series of robes I like that they're listed as they're not psychopaths.
04:21.433 --> 04:22.314
[SPEAKER_04]: They're just killers.
04:22.354 --> 04:27.059
[SPEAKER_04]: I was like interesting to draw that gradation I don't think you've done a psych test on each of them.
04:27.099 --> 04:28.860
[SPEAKER_04]: You just read a file on them.
04:29.261 --> 04:30.902
[SPEAKER_04]: So it feels a little pretty good sure
04:32.035 --> 04:35.417
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, doubting the background work that is being done on this, sir.
04:35.978 --> 04:42.662
[SPEAKER_04]: I just think, how do you look at this person and be like, they don't seem like a psychopath, but I guess they're not wearing a crazy hat or whatever, like some of the other villains.
04:42.682 --> 04:52.508
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
04:52.708 --> 05:15.570
[SPEAKER_03]: not approaches this like this is a blockbuster Batman movie like this is like what's my he approaches every issue like what is my one idea for Batman here we go and they're all part of this big story but every issue you don't know what you're gonna get when you open up the cover it's something entirely different every single time and that's awesome I mean it's good oh god
05:15.930 --> 05:20.252
[SPEAKER_04]: I would just say often we hear the phrase like, oh, you can really see the work and it's a negative.
05:20.932 --> 05:22.653
[SPEAKER_04]: But I feel the opposite here.
05:22.713 --> 05:26.235
[SPEAKER_04]: Like when we interviewed Matt, like, I don't know, four, five months ago.
05:26.455 --> 05:30.536
[SPEAKER_04]: And he talked about, like, it wasn't, it was not here.
05:30.636 --> 05:31.117
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my God.
05:31.197 --> 05:31.417
[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
05:31.437 --> 05:32.017
[SPEAKER_03]: I'll look this up.
05:32.157 --> 05:33.137
[SPEAKER_04]: It was not that long ago.
05:33.538 --> 05:35.679
[SPEAKER_04]: But he's like, I'm not doing work.
05:35.879 --> 05:37.059
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not doing anything else.
05:37.199 --> 05:38.080
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just doing this.
05:38.160 --> 05:42.361
[SPEAKER_04]: And you can see that full brain capacity on display here.
05:42.462 --> 05:42.942
[SPEAKER_04]: And that is.
05:43.822 --> 05:44.263
[SPEAKER_04]: Exciting.
05:45.304 --> 05:48.507
[SPEAKER_04]: But to talk about Verity Pennyworth, I sort of agree with Pete.
05:48.647 --> 05:51.569
[SPEAKER_04]: They let her into the cave way faster than they should.
05:51.609 --> 05:51.790
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
05:52.130 --> 05:53.251
[SPEAKER_03]: By the way, it was February.
05:53.311 --> 05:54.132
[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't know.
05:54.152 --> 05:55.753
[SPEAKER_03]: I brought in this case again.
05:55.813 --> 05:56.133
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
05:57.074 --> 05:58.556
[SPEAKER_04]: That one I got.
05:59.517 --> 06:03.380
[SPEAKER_04]: I do think that it's a little much to have her already down there doing the work.
06:03.680 --> 06:04.361
[SPEAKER_04]: She's on the team.
06:04.801 --> 06:06.363
[SPEAKER_04]: They didn't even talk to the barely spoke to her.
06:06.869 --> 06:16.437
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I, it is a little hand-wavey because I think what you expect with this sort of storyline is Batman to be like, I'll never let anybody into the cave.
06:16.497 --> 06:22.622
[SPEAKER_03]: There's never going to be another Alfred, but the ghost of Alfred or whatever is going out there talks to him, and he's like,
06:22.802 --> 06:41.420
[SPEAKER_03]: okay sounds good and i think that's to kind of like get past some of the mechanics of this story line where you suspect verities working for the league of assassins and she's gonna turn against him and instead this is just saying like could you just get past that could we just be like now they have a new butler this is very petty worth let's move forward
06:42.201 --> 06:47.523
[SPEAKER_04]: And I like that, and I like the character, I like the look of her, and I like the way she is.
06:47.903 --> 06:50.304
[SPEAKER_04]: She is Alfred Esk, who is the father of her.
06:50.524 --> 06:51.825
[SPEAKER_03]: Interesting, I'm gonna look at her.
06:51.925 --> 06:54.285
[SPEAKER_03]: I just mean podcast, go.
06:54.406 --> 06:57.947
[SPEAKER_04]: I don't mean it that way, and the same way that Pete didn't, and I made a joke about it.
06:59.427 --> 07:08.651
[SPEAKER_04]: I think that she's just like having Batman, Damian, and her in the background, they are all working together, it's just a nice trio.
07:09.531 --> 07:12.674
[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and it freshens it all up to have just a new person in there.
07:12.714 --> 07:14.496
[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm not knocking the choice.
07:14.916 --> 07:17.238
[SPEAKER_04]: I was just surprised that Batman would do it that way.
07:17.979 --> 07:33.354
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and just before we move on, I do want to say for in terms of Verity Pennyworth, one of my big reactions to this character was a Wuga, Wuga, Wuga, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin, homin,
07:33.694 --> 07:37.278
[SPEAKER_03]: that's how I'm feeling about the various very cartoonish of you.
07:37.638 --> 07:38.059
[SPEAKER_03]: Interesting.
07:38.599 --> 07:45.386
[SPEAKER_03]: Queen and Black, number two for a marvel written by Alan Ewing, art by Ibit Quello and Paco Medina.
07:45.787 --> 07:47.769
[SPEAKER_03]: We are kicking off our Queen and Black.
07:48.229 --> 07:49.070
[SPEAKER_03]: What did we call it?
07:49.290 --> 07:52.972
[SPEAKER_03]: not a queen of black stack, but a block pack, I don't know.
07:53.012 --> 07:55.052
[SPEAKER_01]: Queen in block, do we call it a block?
07:55.232 --> 08:00.334
[SPEAKER_03]: Queen in black, black, black, black, black, black, black, I don't know, we've definitely figured this out as the point.
08:00.735 --> 08:04.256
[SPEAKER_03]: So there are two issues this week in this queen of black event that we're going to be talking about.
08:04.276 --> 08:09.198
[SPEAKER_03]: The first one is queen of black number two, written by Ilyueng, art by Ivan Cuelo and Paco Medina.
08:09.758 --> 08:16.461
[SPEAKER_03]: There are two opposing armies that are attacking Earth or rather just kind of one army so far, which is held as army of symbiots.
08:16.841 --> 08:17.922
[SPEAKER_03]: are attacking the earth.
08:18.062 --> 08:21.363
[SPEAKER_03]: Meanwhile, no is kind of just offscreen.
08:21.383 --> 08:23.524
[SPEAKER_03]: He's this big threat out there the key talking about.
08:23.544 --> 08:30.187
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, but does not show up at all this issue while everybody is taking down a bunch of vennems throughout the earth.
08:31.208 --> 08:35.150
[SPEAKER_03]: Just I don't know if we talked to you about Queen and Black.
08:35.350 --> 08:38.151
[SPEAKER_03]: How are you feeling about this event and this issue in particular?
08:38.191 --> 08:39.012
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, just a height?
08:39.052 --> 08:39.192
[SPEAKER_03]: What's
08:40.320 --> 09:03.454
[SPEAKER_04]: The the the no off screen thing especially no is actually he's actually the god of light now and he has a panel of seraphim That is he and it's like wait what and it does feel sort of crazy What's happening and then we have this sort of vaguely modac looking Monster that everyone's fighting so like It's a strange version of it, but I don't mind it
09:05.275 --> 09:11.197
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just wanted to jump in here and just say cool cover, you know, this is a lot of fun.
09:12.057 --> 09:24.960
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm enjoying this, I think that the, what I got excited about is at the end, you know, MJ and Spidey were talking, you know, they were kind of standing next to each other, which was really great, and the arts also fantastic.
09:25.195 --> 09:28.157
[SPEAKER_04]: We get a book later in the stack to really talk MJ with, I think.
09:28.217 --> 09:29.698
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I do.
09:30.198 --> 09:32.059
[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like this is a mess.
09:32.139 --> 09:34.421
[SPEAKER_03]: No, it's all to anybody concerned.
09:34.481 --> 09:38.623
[SPEAKER_03]: I've said this before, but I feel like Al-Uing has two modes.
09:38.643 --> 09:42.105
[SPEAKER_03]: One is really good at simplifying things down.
09:42.225 --> 09:45.747
[SPEAKER_03]: And the other one is crazy complicating them up.
09:45.767 --> 09:49.530
[SPEAKER_04]: And the simplifying the other book to talk about with that in the stack as well.
09:49.550 --> 09:49.730
[SPEAKER_04]: We do.
09:49.790 --> 09:50.891
[SPEAKER_03]: Awesome.
09:51.091 --> 09:52.532
[SPEAKER_03]: When he simplifies things down,
09:53.492 --> 09:57.074
[SPEAKER_03]: It works across the board for me the complicated development.
09:57.094 --> 10:03.197
[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, yes, it's very 50 50 because sometimes I'm like, what is happening in here?
10:03.317 --> 10:11.202
[SPEAKER_03]: I am not inside of your head right now, and this is just so many things going on at all times that occasionally there's a little pop of like
10:12.022 --> 10:40.377
[SPEAKER_03]: Wolverie jabs his claws into a symbiots head and storm shocks up and sort of that was crazy and that's silly and I like the fun there's a couple of silly fun moments in here but it's in the middle of like a lot of mess that's going on at the same time and that's not my favorite thing I don't know what the stakes are it's a lot of people being like this is the world we got to save the world we got a fight and fight and fight and that's not the kind of event I like I want a
10:41.998 --> 10:45.779
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like it when people are saving the world, you're like, yeah, I've thought, let it turn.
10:45.839 --> 10:50.581
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think this is suffering from just too much symbiotes stuff.
10:50.661 --> 10:55.862
[SPEAKER_04]: We've had so much, it's been like almost constant without a break for a few years now.
10:56.242 --> 10:57.663
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure Alex will check the dates on this.
10:58.143 --> 11:02.564
[SPEAKER_04]: But I think we just need a break in a different type of story.
11:02.984 --> 11:04.485
[SPEAKER_03]: Actually, it's been five days, I'm sorry.
11:04.885 --> 11:07.907
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, what five days, wow, I don't know.
11:08.227 --> 11:11.049
[SPEAKER_04]: I must have a symbiote hiding in my bundle.
11:11.189 --> 11:12.951
[SPEAKER_04]: But I do think that's where they hide.
11:12.971 --> 11:13.851
[SPEAKER_04]: I do think that's where they hide.
11:14.232 --> 11:15.152
[SPEAKER_04]: I do think that's where they hide.
11:15.172 --> 11:15.813
[SPEAKER_03]: That's where they hide.
11:15.833 --> 11:17.154
[SPEAKER_04]: That's where they hide.
11:18.014 --> 11:20.916
[SPEAKER_04]: I do think that it just feels a little inundated.
11:21.016 --> 11:23.258
[SPEAKER_04]: And that's, that's harming the story, I think.
11:24.254 --> 11:24.754
[SPEAKER_04]: no fault.
11:24.835 --> 11:35.023
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, let's see if that tracks with the other they get our quitted block, which is Venom Unchained a number one for Barbara by Charles Sol, art by Juan and Ramirez.
11:35.443 --> 11:47.834
[SPEAKER_03]: This was weirdly referenced in last week's quitted black number one, where they're like, see Venom Unchained for more on that, that more is Eddie Brock was thrown in prison after the end of the, oh my god.
11:48.074 --> 11:54.237
[SPEAKER_03]: I was even called the thing with Torba at Despiral crossover that happened, which was very good.
11:55.257 --> 12:05.862
[SPEAKER_03]: He is without Venom, he's in prison at this issue, follows him up to the events of Queen of Black, where he's like, oh man, I got to get out of here, I'm the Venom guy, I do send me it stuff, let me out so I can help.
12:06.763 --> 12:13.286
[SPEAKER_03]: So that's kind of where we're at, and there's a bunch of twists and turns and it goes, how do you guys feel about this one, particularly a compared to Queen of Black number two?
12:14.305 --> 12:15.647
[SPEAKER_01]: Well first off, cool cover.
12:15.667 --> 12:25.798
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I thought this was a fun, you know, you get a sub-par lawyer here and then, you know, yells at Peter Parker who is visiting him.
12:25.818 --> 12:27.299
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, that's just kind of rude.
12:28.100 --> 12:31.484
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, a fun last panel gets you excited for what's to come.
12:31.604 --> 12:34.748
[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like this was kind of a nice setup.
12:36.093 --> 12:41.577
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, as well, in opposition to the issue we just talked about, this is just hyper-focused.
12:41.797 --> 12:45.640
[SPEAKER_04]: It's on Eddie Brock and his struggles with being in jail.
12:46.081 --> 12:49.783
[SPEAKER_04]: We get to meet his public defender and really get to know him.
12:50.604 --> 12:59.771
[SPEAKER_04]: It's very funny that the issue really relies on the art to be like, I hope I'm sure my lawyer is going to be Matt Murdock and then it cuts to just like,
13:00.451 --> 13:18.155
[SPEAKER_04]: a shithead looking dude with no dialy really relies on the joke to carry on the art and I love stuff like that in comics in very Marvel style but I mean I I did enjoy this issue it does feel a bit far away from the rest of the action but that's not a bad thing I think.
13:19.013 --> 13:19.513
[SPEAKER_03]: I agree.
13:19.633 --> 13:23.116
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Charles did Eddie Brock carnage.
13:23.156 --> 13:28.519
[SPEAKER_03]: So this is a natural extension of that series, and I think he knows the character pretty well at this point.
13:29.440 --> 13:30.721
[SPEAKER_03]: This is what I'm looking for.
13:30.801 --> 13:33.863
[SPEAKER_03]: It's just something simpler that has these stakes of Eddie Brock be like,
13:33.983 --> 13:39.485
[SPEAKER_03]: I got to prove myself as a hero, that's what I do, except he is the saddest of all sad sacks.
13:39.885 --> 13:41.106
[SPEAKER_03]: And that's what you get in this issue.
13:41.286 --> 13:45.427
[SPEAKER_03]: I wish, maybe there was a little more meat to it, a little more going on.
13:45.547 --> 13:56.532
[SPEAKER_03]: I got excited when they started to have the prison break because I was like, oh cool, maybe it's going to be a whole shawshagged redemption thing, except with any Brock, and then they kind of shut that down to me.
13:57.572 --> 14:03.795
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, so it's crazy by the way that he said say what today or what's he's like I know how to spell that.
14:03.935 --> 14:12.399
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm heading there immediately after prison The fact that he happened to find him on the beach working on a bow Yeah, that are very low because even say what today.
14:12.479 --> 14:17.781
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh has a lot more Beaches you think there is I would be just do you think there are there?
14:17.841 --> 14:18.241
[SPEAKER_03]: Come on.
14:18.381 --> 14:19.242
[SPEAKER_03]: It's someone's name.
14:19.262 --> 14:20.002
[SPEAKER_03]: Have you ever been there?
14:20.062 --> 14:21.763
[SPEAKER_03]: It's nothing but beaches and criminals
14:24.363 --> 14:27.444
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, don't tell anybody, but that's where every criminal is hiding.
14:30.166 --> 14:32.287
[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, good solid first issue.
14:32.307 --> 14:32.747
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's move on.
14:32.767 --> 14:34.368
[SPEAKER_03]: Talk about power Rangers green.
14:34.388 --> 14:36.729
[SPEAKER_03]: Number one is to do as written by Paul Alor.
14:37.109 --> 14:38.810
[SPEAKER_03]: Art by Gustavo Vargas.
14:39.150 --> 14:41.911
[SPEAKER_03]: This is basically Old Man Tommy is the idea here.
14:41.931 --> 14:44.092
[SPEAKER_03]: Along after the rest of the Rangers disappeared.
14:44.392 --> 14:48.614
[SPEAKER_03]: He's trying to live a simple life on a farm and not be a Ranger anymore.
14:49.074 --> 14:51.855
[SPEAKER_03]: But oh, he's going to pop those Ranger clothes.
14:52.176 --> 14:52.856
[SPEAKER_03]: One more time.
14:53.136 --> 14:54.277
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
14:54.698 --> 15:09.894
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought this was a fun first issue, kind of get this set up for a team up here Monsters attack and you need the green machine, so yeah, you know, you gotta go dust them off and get them right for action So I thought this was you know exactly what you want
15:10.970 --> 15:11.911
[SPEAKER_01]: What's going on?
15:12.091 --> 15:13.112
[SPEAKER_01]: Where is our guy?
15:13.172 --> 15:14.012
[SPEAKER_01]: How do we get to him?
15:14.032 --> 15:14.993
[SPEAKER_01]: How do we get him ready?
15:15.433 --> 15:16.254
[SPEAKER_01]: So fun.
15:16.994 --> 15:23.058
[SPEAKER_04]: We've read a lot of first issues of a power-ranger series in the last, I want to say 45 years Alex will check that.
15:23.639 --> 15:29.743
[SPEAKER_04]: But I do think that this one, they've, a lot of them have been very good.
15:30.023 --> 15:33.366
[SPEAKER_04]: They're finding new ways at these stories and this one is great.
15:33.966 --> 15:39.348
[SPEAKER_04]: I really liked it's a Green Ranger who's been out of practice for a while.
15:40.108 --> 15:48.831
[SPEAKER_04]: His supportingcaster people, he has to keep watch on even the sort of villain who shows up is not at the top of their game, either.
15:48.951 --> 15:52.132
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the monster sleeps in the trees, he's fun, man.
15:52.632 --> 15:55.453
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, gold ore, I think is his name.
15:56.194 --> 15:59.195
[SPEAKER_04]: The Green Ranger, like, is there a better power Ranger name
16:03.768 --> 16:05.629
[SPEAKER_04]: Pink Ranger, black ring, nice.
16:06.109 --> 16:07.190
[SPEAKER_04]: Feels like you're both guessing.
16:07.630 --> 16:09.471
[SPEAKER_04]: The green raiders always the one who's different.
16:09.791 --> 16:18.195
[SPEAKER_04]: He's the one who's like, we have five, but we actually need this one more, and he's like, I play a knife that's a flute, and he's like, didn't see that come in the sick.
16:18.555 --> 16:24.738
[SPEAKER_03]: He's kind of twisted to surprise about with this issue is with the, I mean, it's not just old bad looking.
16:24.758 --> 16:30.601
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a billion different, like, unforgiving, all of these other things, but they're like, I gotta do this thing one more time.
16:30.641 --> 16:31.402
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, here we go.
16:32.202 --> 16:53.238
[SPEAKER_03]: the thing that was surprising about the tone here is he doesn't at no point to stop you feel like he needs to be sucked back into battle he's like I'm leaving a pretty good existence and then they're like hey do you want to go fighting he's like yeah sounds good so there's none of that like reluctance to be or danger again that we get which I'm curious to know how that sounds all
16:54.078 --> 16:57.239
[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly, like he's like great you call them coming man.
16:57.279 --> 17:08.424
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's about Alex you know years down the road when you're not podcasting anymore And then someone needs the podcast or you know, they're gonna come running to you and you could be like You think you think I'd pod those claws one more time.
17:08.704 --> 17:13.246
[SPEAKER_01]: That's right You'd be excited to so-and-writing up tunes like we need you
17:14.558 --> 17:18.883
[SPEAKER_03]: We're the podcast, all right, let's get on that one.
17:18.943 --> 17:24.349
[SPEAKER_04]: Did you guys feel like it was a little on the nose that the only products he was growing were green?
17:25.598 --> 17:27.239
[SPEAKER_03]: Hmm, interesting.
17:28.020 --> 17:29.241
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, do you know about plants?
17:29.361 --> 17:32.043
[SPEAKER_03]: Just a little bit, they were just mainly all green.
17:32.063 --> 17:35.226
[SPEAKER_04]: Just feels like he's only eating green things that grow out of the ground.
17:35.246 --> 17:36.747
[SPEAKER_04]: Dude, like, it's really there's other.
17:36.767 --> 17:41.871
[SPEAKER_03]: Plants are only green, green amin' out of sour apple, laughsy-taffy eggs.
17:41.891 --> 17:43.372
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, like, what color is chicken?
17:43.392 --> 17:45.574
[SPEAKER_04]: Doesn't that kind of eat that?
17:45.674 --> 17:47.516
[SPEAKER_01]: Or whatever.
17:48.056 --> 17:48.997
[SPEAKER_04]: What color is chicken?
17:49.057 --> 17:49.698
[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody's eating.
17:49.718 --> 17:50.999
[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody's eating, somebody's eating.
17:51.019 --> 17:52.440
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't eat that, don't eat that.
17:52.880 --> 17:55.681
[SPEAKER_04]: Could you listen to his draft like your favorite color of chicken?
17:56.262 --> 17:58.783
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just at a loss with what this guy's eating.
17:58.803 --> 18:14.850
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
18:19.332 --> 18:22.674
[SPEAKER_03]: And if you don't know the day off hand, this is Ms. Marvel from the MCU.
18:22.694 --> 18:27.057
[SPEAKER_03]: She's done a couple of Ms. Marvel books for Marvel comics that we really liked a lot.
18:27.397 --> 18:39.685
[SPEAKER_03]: And this is her stretch out with a 1970 set detective noir story with a young girl who bonds with her uncle and gets sucked into a gangster type situation.
18:40.245 --> 18:44.648
[SPEAKER_03]: I thought this was a great debut with some fantastic art from Marriott Ignasi.
18:45.028 --> 18:48.050
[SPEAKER_03]: I was really pleasantly surprised and impressed by this book.
18:48.786 --> 18:51.133
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree, the art is spectacular.
18:51.153 --> 18:53.620
[SPEAKER_01]: There's some unbelievable splash pages in here.
18:54.182 --> 18:55.887
[SPEAKER_01]: Epic panels, just really,
18:57.170 --> 19:00.152
[SPEAKER_01]: You get a great vibe from this comic just by the look of it.
19:00.212 --> 19:01.573
[SPEAKER_01]: You just kind of want to live in it.
19:01.673 --> 19:03.074
[SPEAKER_01]: It's so cool and unique.
19:03.614 --> 19:09.138
[SPEAKER_01]: But also just a fun kind of immediately easy premise, right?
19:09.499 --> 19:18.725
[SPEAKER_01]: This young girl who wants to kind of get to know her uncle and she's kind of thrown into the shit of her uncle's life and then it's kind of figure her way out.
19:18.765 --> 19:21.307
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's kind of a cool intro I felt like.
19:21.927 --> 19:23.508
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I really love the art of this.
19:24.448 --> 19:40.696
[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like I wish we got to sort of show a little bit more bit, whether it's the dialogue or the sort of narration feels like a little heavy-handed at times, but I feel like I'm willing, especially in the first issue that makes a lot of sense as you're getting out of the story out there.
19:41.457 --> 19:44.979
[SPEAKER_04]: But, man, is the art of this book so good, like I'm looking
19:48.397 --> 19:53.861
[SPEAKER_03]: X-Men of Apocalypse Omega number one from Marvel written by Jeff Loeb, art by Simone DeBea.
19:53.921 --> 19:58.104
[SPEAKER_03]: We haven't necessarily followed most of the middle issues of this series.
19:58.124 --> 20:06.050
[SPEAKER_03]: Though I think we like the kickoff there, but I was curious to check back with this last issue because Marvel has been plugging this list of texts that it has a ending.
20:06.490 --> 20:09.514
[SPEAKER_03]: that X-Men fans are going to be talking about for years.
20:10.295 --> 20:23.309
[SPEAKER_03]: So that ending if you're curious is the X-Men of Apocalypse fight sinister and I'm liking on the other character that they fight but basically a bunch of refugees from Holocaust.
20:23.650 --> 20:24.210
[SPEAKER_03]: Holocaust.
20:24.230 --> 20:24.711
[SPEAKER_03]: Holocaust.
20:27.074 --> 20:28.355
[SPEAKER_03]: I was supposed to never forget.
20:28.715 --> 20:29.777
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah, anyway.
20:31.238 --> 20:32.780
[SPEAKER_03]: They played Holocaust.
20:33.882 --> 20:36.565
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm ready to shave that cartridge and have his name changed.
20:36.785 --> 20:37.826
[SPEAKER_04]: You've never said it that.
20:37.966 --> 20:39.848
[SPEAKER_04]: Not a film ready to do a rest of the Holocaust?
20:40.029 --> 20:41.050
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I don't know why.
20:41.130 --> 20:41.951
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why.
20:42.811 --> 21:10.025
[SPEAKER_04]: I will say I will I will please don't clip this but I am a Holocaust anir in this in this context I'm in this context in this context in this context I am a denying this Holocaust stop saying that do you know what a another X-Men villain that I don't believe it is died 11 Very poorly named poorly timed care is powered about steel beams.
21:10.205 --> 21:10.845
[SPEAKER_03]: How does that work?
21:11.145 --> 21:14.146
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I have some questions as in question.
21:14.166 --> 21:15.906
[SPEAKER_03]: Can we talk about the context?
21:15.966 --> 21:17.526
[SPEAKER_03]: Can we please talk about this context?
21:17.546 --> 21:20.327
[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, that's the end of the people we'll be talking about.
21:20.467 --> 21:21.687
[SPEAKER_04]: Is the ending of this podcast?
21:21.927 --> 21:24.987
[SPEAKER_03]: They're fighting a bunch of refugees for the age of apocalypse.
21:25.067 --> 21:25.608
[SPEAKER_03]: They win.
21:25.748 --> 21:29.328
[SPEAKER_03]: They team up with the X-Men of the main Marvel Universe.
21:29.468 --> 21:39.390
[SPEAKER_03]: And by the end, as far as I understand, the Sabre Truth of the Age of Apocalypse decides to stay in the main Marvel continuity because Sabre Truth is dead here.
21:40.190 --> 21:45.153
[SPEAKER_03]: And also, even though Wolverines like Addo dressed you above, you received a tooth you're going to go wrong.
21:45.613 --> 22:01.380
[SPEAKER_03]: The other thing that happens is the cabinet of the Age of Apocalypse and cabinet of the Marvel Universe, which jackets, which, so that our cabinet could go back to the Age of Apocalypse for some reason, and the Age of Apocalypse cabinet can stay here and kiss Roker.
22:01.961 --> 22:04.002
[SPEAKER_03]: And by right on that, did I miss it?
22:04.062 --> 22:04.842
[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly, right.
22:05.302 --> 22:05.923
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
22:05.943 --> 22:08.244
[SPEAKER_01]: No, I miss Rogue, he was like, oh, yeah.
22:09.031 --> 22:12.144
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'd rather live in horrific times.
22:12.184 --> 22:13.188
[SPEAKER_01]: Why don't we switch it off?
22:14.580 --> 22:16.361
[SPEAKER_01]: Why didn't they both stay?
22:16.601 --> 22:18.302
[SPEAKER_01]: That doesn't make Eddie sense.
22:18.522 --> 22:19.782
[SPEAKER_04]: It's very strong.
22:19.802 --> 22:21.403
[SPEAKER_04]: This is always greener, bro.
22:22.304 --> 22:28.506
[SPEAKER_04]: So like, and there's a, I don't know what, gambits having a crazy moment right now is across everything.
22:28.586 --> 22:30.247
[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know why that is.
22:31.068 --> 22:34.629
[SPEAKER_04]: Did the 90s nostalgia come back in just this right way?
22:34.969 --> 22:37.390
[SPEAKER_04]: Just now, sorry, Ghost Rider movie times.
22:37.511 --> 22:38.531
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not saying that.
22:38.571 --> 22:39.471
[SPEAKER_01]: That's so cool.
22:39.652 --> 22:40.112
[SPEAKER_04]: It really cool.
22:40.632 --> 22:41.873
[SPEAKER_04]: Love you Ryan Gosling.
22:43.033 --> 22:44.855
[SPEAKER_04]: I don't understand this as an end.
22:44.895 --> 22:45.936
[SPEAKER_04]: It was very strange.
22:46.196 --> 22:50.520
[SPEAKER_04]: Love the feature of X-Man, Nate Gray, in this comic.
22:50.660 --> 23:01.089
[SPEAKER_04]: The Simon Demel artist is really great throughout, except for the way he draws wild child where he just moves Saber to his face to a tiny body, which I was like, that's not what that is.
23:01.129 --> 23:01.830
[SPEAKER_04]: That's not what that is.
23:02.971 --> 23:29.073
[SPEAKER_04]: So that was strange, but otherwise, great to see these characters, I do like this universe, I like the age of apocalypse characters, moving Saber Tooth in is an interesting idea if the rest of the continuity picks that up and makes just a legitimate good leader Saber Tooth, like we had, good guy, like genuine good guy, I think, hasn't been harmed in any other version of the continuity here.
23:29.573 --> 23:30.294
[SPEAKER_04]: That's a cool idea.
23:31.341 --> 23:34.043
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, first off is a great cover really cool.
23:35.104 --> 23:38.446
[SPEAKER_01]: I love to kind of see you like Holocaust.
23:39.026 --> 23:40.407
[SPEAKER_01]: Nope, the Holocaust.
23:40.447 --> 23:41.888
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's Holocaust in the cause of the life.
23:41.908 --> 23:43.909
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot more going on than, you know.
23:44.330 --> 23:47.732
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there are a lot of, there's a lot of different things you can talk about with Holocaust.
23:48.077 --> 24:10.777
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the sure is, buddy, you can see a gambit in the picture, and there is, you know, so anyways, I think when the, when the age of a cop of five clubs was happening, when they were naming this character, was there any pause given when they were like, she just tried to help, so just throw them out, because it's never hit, I'm just like, a miss forever, was this like,
24:13.715 --> 24:15.516
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I like this.
24:15.596 --> 24:21.819
[SPEAKER_01]: I also like the beef top Saber tooth kind of getting getting more time in this.
24:21.859 --> 24:23.619
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's exciting.
24:23.800 --> 24:27.001
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm a little worried about the old Swiss roux.
24:27.941 --> 24:31.923
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, once people find out about it, but yeah, fun start.
24:32.850 --> 24:34.911
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, flood start this is the last issue.
24:35.131 --> 24:40.173
[SPEAKER_03]: The, there is, uh, uh, what was I going to say?
24:40.473 --> 24:43.214
[SPEAKER_03]: There is another many series that's coming off of this.
24:43.254 --> 24:44.514
[SPEAKER_03]: That issue number one.
24:45.435 --> 24:46.915
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, this is this.
24:46.935 --> 24:47.876
[SPEAKER_04]: This is the Omega, though.
24:47.896 --> 24:49.196
[SPEAKER_04]: This is the Omega issue.
24:51.051 --> 24:51.351
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
24:51.391 --> 24:52.072
[SPEAKER_03]: I want to move on.
24:52.313 --> 24:57.038
[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely superman number 22 for DC Comics by Jason Aaron, Art by Juan Ferreira.
24:57.579 --> 25:05.448
[SPEAKER_03]: We are kicking off a new arc here where Superman is trying to track down the body, harm, brainiac of the absolute universe, but in this issue, first he has to go through
25:06.182 --> 25:10.564
[SPEAKER_03]: piecemaker who has been re-made into a metallel.
25:11.824 --> 25:12.845
[SPEAKER_03]: What do you guys think about this?
25:13.965 --> 25:14.726
[SPEAKER_01]: I really love this.
25:14.906 --> 25:16.747
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the action was really impressive.
25:16.787 --> 25:18.527
[SPEAKER_01]: The paneling was impressive.
25:18.547 --> 25:23.910
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a one panel where someone's got like punched, like kind of down the panels, which was really cool.
25:24.410 --> 25:27.371
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the action sequences and stuff were really well thought out.
25:27.491 --> 25:28.191
[SPEAKER_01]: Cool cover.
25:29.232 --> 25:33.354
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just really impressed by the kind of art fordness of this issue.
25:34.675 --> 25:35.816
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's funny.
25:35.836 --> 25:36.476
[SPEAKER_01]: It's weird.
25:36.536 --> 25:39.820
[SPEAKER_04]: I think this the artist's very like retro to me.
25:39.840 --> 25:55.937
[SPEAKER_04]: This feels almost like an 80s Vertigo or like a Swamp thing like Camp comic the way the art is is laid out and sort of the characters look and feel like there's a lot of great emotion in the characters faces it But it has a very classic comic book look to it
25:56.677 --> 26:03.061
[SPEAKER_04]: in following up on a lot of these other issues of absolute Superman, which are very modern and tech-efeeling.
26:03.461 --> 26:08.424
[SPEAKER_04]: This was definitely a bit of a change to me, in the way the story unfolded.
26:09.004 --> 26:14.087
[SPEAKER_03]: I think one for her did an issue earlier, and they worked together on Teenage Beauty Ninja Turtles.
26:14.127 --> 26:17.969
[SPEAKER_03]: So I do think they're good pair, but I hear you, it's very different layouts and a very different look.
26:18.069 --> 26:19.350
[SPEAKER_04]: And I don't mean that in a negative way.
26:19.530 --> 26:19.930
[SPEAKER_04]: I like it.
26:19.950 --> 26:20.871
[SPEAKER_04]: And I actually think it fits.
26:20.891 --> 26:24.213
[SPEAKER_04]: There's a lot of body horror in this issue, I think.
26:24.233 --> 26:24.433
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
26:25.133 --> 26:30.936
[SPEAKER_03]: For sure, I just really love the Jason Aragon keeps drilling down on the kindness of Superman.
26:30.956 --> 26:33.998
[SPEAKER_03]: That that is the thing that keeps winning the day over and over again.
26:34.058 --> 26:36.319
[SPEAKER_03]: I just, I don't get tired of that.
26:36.459 --> 26:38.300
[SPEAKER_03]: It keeps working and that happens again.
26:38.821 --> 26:42.743
[SPEAKER_03]: Again, this issue and a very creative and lovely way like Pete was saying.
26:43.583 --> 26:56.450
[SPEAKER_03]: That testic for number 15 from Marvel written by Ryan North, art by Umberto Ramos, the Zay 65th anniversary celebration of Fantastic Four and another stellar dot-in-one issue here from this team.
26:56.970 --> 27:04.875
[SPEAKER_03]: What happens is that the Fantastic Four has been said to back in time by Nicholas Scratch, something that's though they discover over the course of the issue.
27:05.435 --> 27:05.755
[SPEAKER_03]: Bye.
27:05.775 --> 27:06.376
[SPEAKER_03]: Next scratch.
27:06.896 --> 27:07.436
[SPEAKER_03]: They are
27:11.098 --> 27:38.374
[SPEAKER_03]: time 20 year time jobs at a time through the life of initially this young girl who they encounter who then sees them 20 years later than 20 years after that and the thing that is so lovely and so wonderful about this issue that was so unexpected is it is a ode to the power of science which is something that so many people have ignored and not written about at all but it comes to fantastic for when it's just when that hit me just
27:41.015 --> 27:48.336
[SPEAKER_03]: How did the Fantastic Four start and how could we pay tribute to them 65 years later with something that has not been said before?
27:49.177 --> 27:50.657
[SPEAKER_03]: Perfect.
27:50.977 --> 27:52.557
[SPEAKER_04]: I thought this issue was unbelievable.
27:52.617 --> 27:53.577
[SPEAKER_04]: I really loved it.
27:53.777 --> 27:54.758
[SPEAKER_04]: It was upsetting.
27:55.178 --> 28:03.299
[SPEAKER_04]: Like the character they encounter who dedicates her life literally to science so that she can save the fantastic for.
28:03.639 --> 28:07.080
[SPEAKER_04]: And we see her from a very young age to her literal death.
28:07.560 --> 28:15.347
[SPEAKER_04]: where she is living her life, calculating ahead of read Richards, because he's moving in the opposite direction in time.
28:15.767 --> 28:16.848
[SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't know what's happening.
28:16.888 --> 28:20.391
[SPEAKER_04]: So usually you expect him to be like, could just do this one thing.
28:20.491 --> 28:28.137
[SPEAKER_04]: Instead, the book allows her to use the scientific method and work toward a solution and save them.
28:28.577 --> 28:32.520
[SPEAKER_04]: And then they go forward and look back through their history at the same time.
28:33.301 --> 28:54.096
[SPEAKER_04]: I just thought it was like a beautiful, like, double narrative construct for this that paid off, like you're saying, Alex, the science underpinnings of the fantastic for, well, they're just a heartfelt dedication to being a hero and doing what makes you feel good and makes you feel important in your life as a focus, it's great.
28:54.784 --> 29:05.998
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and then adding in, sorry, if you were about to say this beat, but then when they finally moved forward in time, they travel through iconic, fantastic work on that stuff that covers.
29:06.338 --> 29:07.920
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, go ahead and finish it off.
29:07.940 --> 29:08.301
[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
29:08.561 --> 29:12.987
[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, I was just going to say, like, you know, a lot of times when you get an anniversary issue,
29:13.407 --> 29:31.674
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they do a lot of kind of creative ways of looking back, but like the way that they did in this comic book, it was just such a great not only homage to fantastic for but homage to art in comics as well and just like it was just fun to kind of go back with these characters and stuff.
29:31.994 --> 29:49.773
[SPEAKER_01]: It was just such a seamless way to pay homage to something on a 65th anniversary that told the story really well that also kept the, you know, what, what, what's great about the fantastic floor, you know, this kind of like we can outsmart, we can use science, we can use technology to
29:50.193 --> 29:51.073
[SPEAKER_01]: to solve problems.
29:51.173 --> 29:52.474
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was such a cool way.
29:52.774 --> 29:58.555
[SPEAKER_01]: The only thing that it was a little bit weird for me, it was like fantastic for 65th anniversary.
29:58.595 --> 29:59.795
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, issue 15.
29:59.855 --> 30:02.536
[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, well, how many issues is it really?
30:02.576 --> 30:03.336
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
30:03.376 --> 30:04.156
[SPEAKER_01]: You want to count the numbers?
30:04.316 --> 30:06.877
[SPEAKER_04]: Because you need to celebrate your 65th anniversary.
30:07.577 --> 30:10.078
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh man, I'm old, but I'm not that old yet.
30:10.378 --> 30:11.078
[SPEAKER_01]: But you know,
30:11.938 --> 30:15.360
[SPEAKER_01]: just a, you know, something in the back where it shows the covers is always fun.
30:15.380 --> 30:26.405
[SPEAKER_03]: The Marvel does, but also how this week, at the store they have, I'm forgetting when it's actually called, but it's fantastic for 65 years, a cover celebration.
30:26.525 --> 30:31.867
[SPEAKER_03]: So there is actually another book coming out that is nothing but covers if you want to check it out.
30:31.967 --> 30:32.288
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, cool.
30:32.368 --> 30:32.688
[SPEAKER_01]: I will.
30:32.728 --> 30:33.108
[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
30:33.428 --> 30:34.449
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
30:34.549 --> 30:41.836
[SPEAKER_03]: And then we also got a great bit at the end wrapping up the story where Johnny's Mustaffes saves New York in a very funny way.
30:41.856 --> 30:47.621
[SPEAKER_03]: I will just say, I've loved this whole run from Ryan North, but issue 1314-15.
30:47.821 --> 30:50.403
[SPEAKER_03]: I think are just legendary.
30:50.443 --> 30:57.630
[SPEAKER_03]: This is a legendary triptych of issues that I've come out here for the Ghost Rider issue to the pie.
30:59.351 --> 31:01.292
[SPEAKER_03]: Calculation issue to this issue.
31:01.432 --> 31:03.413
[SPEAKER_03]: It's just been so good.
31:03.693 --> 31:04.054
[SPEAKER_03]: So good.
31:04.514 --> 31:05.174
[SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
31:05.574 --> 31:06.115
[SPEAKER_04]: Fantastic.
31:06.635 --> 31:10.577
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and Alberto Ramos's art is absolutely fantastic.
31:11.197 --> 31:12.978
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and happy to see the mustache go.
31:13.639 --> 31:14.899
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, same here.
31:15.380 --> 31:21.183
[SPEAKER_03]: For psychone number one from Odie Press written by Matt Kin art by Brian the hurt locker.
31:21.703 --> 31:25.045
[SPEAKER_03]: Actually, I said that is Brian the locker heard with every letter.
31:25.765 --> 31:26.826
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, both of them.
31:26.926 --> 31:28.827
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure Brian would love to hear both of those.
31:31.037 --> 31:39.380
[SPEAKER_03]: This is a wild swing that's going on here, so they sold this as like this and they did this in the free comic book day special as well.
31:39.400 --> 31:45.043
[SPEAKER_03]: This is basically like GI Joe but hepped up on cocaine.
31:45.063 --> 31:48.284
[SPEAKER_03]: It was kind of the idea, but that's not what this book is at all.
31:48.744 --> 31:55.547
[SPEAKER_03]: This is actually if anything, it's GI Joe gets retired and stuck inside of the prisoner is basically what's going on here.
31:56.427 --> 31:57.528
[SPEAKER_03]: It's great.
31:57.789 --> 32:00.911
[SPEAKER_03]: This is so good just and you called it out on the show.
32:00.931 --> 32:02.553
[SPEAKER_03]: What do you like about that?
32:02.793 --> 32:10.019
[SPEAKER_04]: Actually just to called the peak called it out and I just had to pick it up because I can't believe peak called it out because I was going to call it.
32:10.039 --> 32:10.820
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, sorry.
32:10.920 --> 32:12.081
[SPEAKER_03]: Less angry peat.
32:12.141 --> 32:13.082
[SPEAKER_03]: What did you think about it?
32:13.782 --> 32:14.383
[SPEAKER_03]: That's just it.
32:14.423 --> 32:14.803
[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
32:25.513 --> 32:27.453
[SPEAKER_04]: really good.
32:28.274 --> 32:29.494
[SPEAKER_04]: I did really enjoy this.
32:29.915 --> 32:35.537
[SPEAKER_04]: This doesn't feel like it's a parody or some sort of take on G.A.J.O.
32:35.717 --> 32:42.840
[SPEAKER_04]: as much as just a great genre-e espionage story where there's a mystery to be solved.
32:43.501 --> 32:51.344
[SPEAKER_04]: The back half of the book where we're just getting the characters talking about how they got got and setting up the mystery going forward.
32:51.384 --> 32:53.065
[SPEAKER_04]: I thought was fantastic.
32:54.362 --> 33:11.538
[SPEAKER_01]: yeah i really love this i was very pleasantly surprised by this book uh... first of cool cover uh... there was like in ten pages of whiskey adds was that just uh... not uh... what they're really gonna do or they really gonna do that because it was kind of hilarious after a while did you buy whiskey
33:12.178 --> 33:17.280
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I bought 10 of them so I'm just so weren't so yeah, we're going to take a nap.
33:17.400 --> 33:19.141
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm the psycho in Ford's Psycho.
33:19.401 --> 33:26.903
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, there's there's a fake whiskey add at the end the copies that we got the PDF's had It was a mistake.
33:27.003 --> 33:27.824
[SPEAKER_01]: That's okay.
33:27.944 --> 33:37.367
[SPEAKER_01]: I was gonna say this is kind of hilarious, but also a waste, but hey, you know I love a bit, but yeah, the twists and turns in this were fun the who do you trust who's who?
33:37.967 --> 33:44.290
[SPEAKER_01]: just such a cool pace and a fun kind of world that was set up here, so I'm very excited for more.
33:45.771 --> 33:51.273
[SPEAKER_03]: Amazing spider-man number 34 from Marvel, written by Jo Kelly, art by Ed McGinnis.
33:51.313 --> 34:04.800
[SPEAKER_03]: Spider-man is still dealing with the revelation that Ed May has a biological son who she is bonding with and it's really bombing him out, so instead he's turning to beating up electro and working with the department of damage control.
34:06.041 --> 34:07.342
[SPEAKER_03]: That's basically what's going on here.
34:07.462 --> 34:14.347
[SPEAKER_03]: It continues the narrative device that Joe used to the previous issue that I thought was so interesting where it's, I always get this wrong.
34:14.367 --> 34:19.051
[SPEAKER_03]: But is it like a third-person duration, is that, or a second-person, is that what it is?
34:20.092 --> 34:24.295
[SPEAKER_03]: Whereas I should not talk to a professional editor, but I don't.
34:25.256 --> 34:30.280
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, second-person is the least used where it is like a person sort of describing the action.
34:30.994 --> 34:33.214
[SPEAKER_04]: that is also partaking the action I want to say.
34:33.314 --> 34:34.655
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure we'll be corrected about this.
34:34.815 --> 34:37.395
[SPEAKER_04]: Alex may be going to look up on the answer to this.
34:37.575 --> 34:39.536
[SPEAKER_04]: The way the good magic fingers.
34:40.496 --> 34:55.019
[SPEAKER_04]: But I agree with you, I love this type of story because what it does is it allows this like sort of time dash nature of the story and how he's being electrocuted and his brain is sort of slipping.
34:56.179 --> 34:59.420
[SPEAKER_04]: to give us at the actual narrative device for the story which is great.
35:00.080 --> 35:14.163
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean a couple of things about this, I feel like the introduction of Aunt May's son, Kormack, is that going to be, is it really just a way to upset Peter Parker in a core way?
35:14.863 --> 35:23.865
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm starting to think that it's not that he's going to be revealed as something other than he is presenting himself, but that it really is just shattering Peter Parker to his core.
35:24.985 --> 35:30.851
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, this issue is sad, it ends with Spider-Man just kind of crying on a rooftop.
35:31.454 --> 35:40.557
[SPEAKER_01]: And it is heartbreaking in a way that is kind of new, you know, we haven't seen them kind of like jealous of somebody and and at man's eyes here.
35:40.617 --> 35:42.318
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a kind of a new look for him.
35:43.818 --> 35:48.780
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I think this is an interesting idea as someone has read a lot of Spider-Man.
35:48.860 --> 35:51.761
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm impressed with the swings that Joe Kelly is taking.
35:52.181 --> 35:53.722
[SPEAKER_01]: The art is fantastic.
35:54.062 --> 35:55.162
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a great team.
35:55.202 --> 35:56.303
[SPEAKER_01]: This is a great package.
35:57.293 --> 35:59.194
[SPEAKER_03]: The Tans are a question, Justin.
35:59.394 --> 36:07.897
[SPEAKER_03]: This is my comic book brain going, but the more I become convinced that there is no twist into supervillity, the more I become convinced.
36:08.317 --> 36:12.058
[SPEAKER_03]: There is a twist to supervillity because broken brain talk.
36:12.158 --> 36:14.439
[SPEAKER_03]: It really is, but that's how you do it, right?
36:14.479 --> 36:19.301
[SPEAKER_03]: Like you really push it to the point where you're like, oh, this isn't gonna go in the direction we think it's gonna go in.
36:19.681 --> 36:21.361
[SPEAKER_03]: And then by youink, it does.
36:21.881 --> 36:23.342
[SPEAKER_03]: Same thing with Verity Pennyworth,
36:26.523 --> 36:27.744
[SPEAKER_03]: the bilf, right Pete?
36:29.106 --> 36:31.047
[SPEAKER_04]: No, you talk about it.
36:31.668 --> 36:32.409
[SPEAKER_04]: Beats definitely.
36:32.449 --> 36:33.189
[SPEAKER_04]: No.
36:33.229 --> 36:35.932
[SPEAKER_01]: Johnson was the one who was saying that he was talking about.
36:35.992 --> 36:36.993
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
36:37.293 --> 36:37.874
[SPEAKER_03]: He was you.
36:37.914 --> 36:39.555
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you're called for nothing.
36:40.216 --> 36:42.238
[SPEAKER_03]: You called for Verity.
36:42.738 --> 36:43.379
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
36:43.399 --> 36:48.404
[SPEAKER_03]: You said you're a whole parody of the top of the show of Hot To Go by whatever.
36:48.584 --> 36:51.106
[SPEAKER_04]: You say a parody about Verity, Pete?
36:51.386 --> 36:52.047
[SPEAKER_03]: Verity, Verity.
36:52.187 --> 37:14.356
[SPEAKER_04]: of Erdy Perry let me just say though while we're talking about people that we want to be together Pete and Verity I want Peter Parker and Ray Lithorechid to get to this let's get this relationship going I love this I love this it's great stop the fact that he has his his other folks the
37:16.934 --> 37:39.751
[SPEAKER_04]: uh... robot guy uh... the phalanx uh... covenant phalanx uh... he is like him and um... rail is been in the roof just sitting in a pose i think you should go talk to her big pushing him like very like uh... helping him out uh... as a as a blood i thought was great i want this relationship to happen this is the person who i want
37:40.011 --> 37:44.877
[SPEAKER_01]: No, and do you think that Joe Kelly as a writer is like, oh, you know what I want to do?
37:45.278 --> 37:50.104
[SPEAKER_01]: I want to separate the greatest relationship of all time already separated, bro.
37:50.304 --> 37:51.045
[SPEAKER_04]: Deepest effort.
37:51.085 --> 37:54.729
[SPEAKER_04]: Can you imagine them marriage and Peter even being together?
37:55.270 --> 37:56.912
[SPEAKER_04]: What story would even be about that?
37:57.092 --> 37:59.433
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well there even be three to four stories about that.
37:59.573 --> 38:02.894
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, maybe maybe four and maybe a couple of them can act loosely.
38:03.194 --> 38:03.554
[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
38:03.814 --> 38:04.534
[SPEAKER_04]: That doesn't seem possible.
38:04.554 --> 38:05.435
[SPEAKER_04]: That would happen.
38:05.635 --> 38:07.055
[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of missed references.
38:07.655 --> 38:12.717
[SPEAKER_03]: Mask number three from skybouted image comics written by dead waters art by a pie.
38:12.797 --> 38:13.697
[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
38:14.257 --> 38:16.158
[SPEAKER_03]: And this issue begins a big.
38:16.818 --> 38:23.688
[SPEAKER_03]: Shocking revelations about the energy of the universe and what's going on, we'll talk about the big last page in a second.
38:24.129 --> 38:30.077
[SPEAKER_03]: But basically we're picking up on the cliffhanger here and we're a couple of members of our mask team, released in dire circumstances.
38:30.407 --> 38:47.490
[SPEAKER_03]: they do manage to get out of that and there's more action over the cruise the issue leading up to that cliffhanger that reveals who oh my god what's his day the major dabbing miles may have miles may have is working for is the villain from microdots so they got the microdots
38:48.871 --> 38:54.714
[SPEAKER_03]: There are a lot of John Mutes to the verse now, which is kind of surprising because I look this up because I was confused.
38:55.215 --> 38:59.257
[SPEAKER_03]: Marvel got the rights to publish Micronauts back in 2023.
38:59.337 --> 39:03.559
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it was publishing some collections of that.
39:03.699 --> 39:14.905
[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody assumed it was because they were going to do like some sort of antman, quantum realm, spin-off thing and do some comic, but the micronauts, but no, it looks like the inner joy of the universe they got them.
39:17.406 --> 39:20.027
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, this is a fun favor for you for the micronauts.
39:20.587 --> 39:22.388
[SPEAKER_04]: Dude, I'm up here today.
39:22.488 --> 39:24.609
[SPEAKER_03]: Is I actually do like the micronauts?
39:25.470 --> 39:27.510
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, welcome to the party.
39:27.570 --> 39:32.052
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they're starting to get into the weird quarters, where I was like, I don't know.
39:32.132 --> 39:35.154
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm fine if you have a good GI Jew and transporters.
39:35.194 --> 39:36.374
[SPEAKER_03]: No, I'm not joining you.
39:36.414 --> 39:37.575
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm doing the opposite of you.
39:37.715 --> 39:38.135
[SPEAKER_03]: Why not?
39:38.175 --> 39:39.956
[SPEAKER_03]: Because GI Jew and transporber.
39:40.897 --> 39:43.843
[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, sure, if I like these titles, I like these titles.
39:43.863 --> 39:44.104
[SPEAKER_03]: Great.
39:44.504 --> 39:46.428
[SPEAKER_03]: Mask, I have no affinity for them.
39:46.468 --> 39:49.153
[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, you've always been anti mask.
39:49.835 --> 39:50.115
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
39:52.311 --> 39:55.773
[SPEAKER_04]: Mass off, you know, like, mass off my children is what I was going to say.
39:56.053 --> 39:59.015
[SPEAKER_04]: You've been anti-massed since like 2020, loosely, I think.
39:59.035 --> 40:01.097
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, 2020, like a late, mid-do.
40:01.117 --> 40:03.278
[SPEAKER_03]: Don't piss off for one person.
40:03.438 --> 40:08.141
[SPEAKER_04]: So anyway, just to be clear, this is the anti-mass that I'm a Holocaust and I repeat.
40:08.201 --> 40:09.742
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, what are you?
40:09.762 --> 40:10.743
[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, okay.
40:13.705 --> 40:22.111
[SPEAKER_03]: This comic is great, you have to hold on, my point is that I didn't really care about masks, but the second day it out's Rob, I was like, oh yeah, bring out the Rob.
40:22.211 --> 40:26.434
[SPEAKER_03]: And in the end of this, whether they got to microdots, I was like, cool, microdots, that's awesome.
40:26.894 --> 40:29.576
[SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, this is the weirder, it's working.
40:30.636 --> 40:33.077
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's got the bone in man.
40:33.097 --> 40:33.937
[SPEAKER_01]: The water's great.
40:34.437 --> 40:37.758
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah Which part of the rest of it?
40:37.798 --> 40:48.662
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like did you not get I don't Yeah, they continue to kick ass ton of action fun villain reveal at the end also great that like
40:49.362 --> 40:57.311
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I was a little worried about Miles Mayhem being like too crazy in this, but it was just he was talking to his evil overlord.
40:57.371 --> 40:58.693
[SPEAKER_01]: So great news.
40:59.854 --> 41:03.258
[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, and it's fun to mask survives another battle.
41:03.318 --> 41:04.719
[SPEAKER_01]: So very excited.
41:04.839 --> 41:06.461
[SPEAKER_01]: Great use of the masks.
41:06.581 --> 41:07.683
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm having a blast with this.
41:08.691 --> 41:12.034
[SPEAKER_04]: I thought this issue was excellent even without the reveals at the end.
41:12.234 --> 41:18.079
[SPEAKER_04]: I really like seeing these two mask agents just like sort of trying to survive using their masks.
41:18.619 --> 41:19.820
[SPEAKER_04]: This is what the book should be.
41:20.200 --> 41:22.182
[SPEAKER_04]: This is paying off the premise, and I'm here for that.
41:23.143 --> 41:23.523
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
41:24.244 --> 41:28.627
[SPEAKER_03]: Neighborhood Watch, number four for Boob Studios, written by Sarah Galley, art by Hanyng.
41:28.907 --> 41:31.890
[SPEAKER_03]: This takes place between two communities.
41:32.330 --> 41:34.612
[SPEAKER_03]: One is sort of a crunchier, more gridola community.
41:37.669 --> 41:44.010
[SPEAKER_03]: There's been a murder directly between the two of them and it turns out the person, well, not a murder, somebody was attacked.
41:44.451 --> 41:51.732
[SPEAKER_03]: The woman who was attacked was dating one woman in each community and there's more twists in turns that have come out of that.
41:52.152 --> 41:54.033
[SPEAKER_03]: I have been loving this series.
41:54.293 --> 41:58.154
[SPEAKER_03]: There's great characters really well drawn the relationships are very deep.
41:58.594 --> 42:07.216
[SPEAKER_03]: The mystery is very involving and that continues through all the way through the end of this issue where there's a big cliffhanger and a lot of danger going out for all of
42:07.736 --> 42:09.517
[SPEAKER_01]: This great what a great series.
42:10.457 --> 42:16.880
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it reminds me of like clue in all the best ways We're trying to figure out who does what to whom and that kind of thing.
42:16.941 --> 42:30.147
[SPEAKER_04]: So I thought this was the board game or the movie The movie I would argue tonely it's not at all like the clue the movie Right and there are other mysteries than clue the movie
42:31.625 --> 42:34.726
[SPEAKER_01]: No, but that's what I thought of.
42:35.046 --> 42:36.227
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, Jesus Christ.
42:36.247 --> 42:38.568
[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, no, my guy's sweetly paced.
42:38.588 --> 42:40.749
[SPEAKER_04]: She likes glue and that's cool by me.
42:42.509 --> 42:43.790
[SPEAKER_03]: How do you feel about this, Justin?
42:44.270 --> 42:45.130
[SPEAKER_04]: I also enjoy this.
42:45.270 --> 42:45.811
[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like...
42:45.831 --> 42:48.512
[SPEAKER_01]: They locked us and I hope you don't get ripped to shreds in your review.
42:48.672 --> 42:48.972
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
42:49.232 --> 42:50.712
[SPEAKER_04]: It's like the movie The Mask.
42:50.973 --> 42:52.653
[SPEAKER_04]: You know, how old are you?
42:52.693 --> 42:54.354
[SPEAKER_01]: I could make that comparison.
42:55.813 --> 42:56.695
[SPEAKER_04]: It's not like that at all.
42:56.715 --> 43:00.103
[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's like the bass because this title is kind of smoking.
43:00.123 --> 43:01.486
[SPEAKER_03]: And I think we can all agree on that.
43:01.506 --> 43:05.215
[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, and I will say it's like almost like the villain is like somebody sobbing.
43:07.441 --> 43:18.427
[SPEAKER_04]: But I do like this, it's able to, the premise was pretty wild of the secret relationships and connections between these very different societies.
43:18.947 --> 43:27.572
[SPEAKER_04]: And then the book has been able to just tell a great character driven story for the last three issues and very excited to see where it goes next.
43:28.960 --> 43:32.401
[SPEAKER_03]: Mary Jane face a tiger number one from Marvel written by J.M.
43:32.441 --> 43:36.483
[SPEAKER_03]: Tibutas and Senty J. Michael Strasinski and Ashley Allen.
43:36.843 --> 43:43.005
[SPEAKER_03]: Art by Andrea Bracardo, Alina Yero, Fiava, Luigi Zagaria and Phil Nodow.
43:43.566 --> 43:54.610
[SPEAKER_03]: As you may have figured out earlier, this is for ish short stories, all about Mary Jane told by writers who wrote her throughout her 60-year history.
43:55.310 --> 44:08.079
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and so yeah, we're getting a bunch of different tales of Mary Jean leading into the new BDC series that's gonna be taking place after Queen and Black, friendly neighborhood Mary Jean that's gonna follow her as a producer.
44:08.360 --> 44:09.040
[SPEAKER_03]: So there you go.
44:09.621 --> 44:10.121
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Pete.
44:10.161 --> 44:10.821
[SPEAKER_03]: You're clapping.
44:10.841 --> 44:12.783
[SPEAKER_03]: You're excited to take it away
44:13.103 --> 44:16.868
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if you need me, I'll be in this world, please send my mail.
44:17.148 --> 44:17.929
[SPEAKER_01]: This is great.
44:19.170 --> 44:22.034
[SPEAKER_01]: MJ and Pete are together in this.
44:22.314 --> 44:23.355
[SPEAKER_01]: It's glorious.
44:23.816 --> 44:28.602
[SPEAKER_01]: Spidey and MJ, having adventures, having times, and just...
44:28.982 --> 44:31.444
[SPEAKER_01]: talking to each other and being together.
44:31.504 --> 44:35.187
[SPEAKER_01]: It's the greatest comic book of the week.
44:35.307 --> 44:43.674
[SPEAKER_01]: I was having a great time, as soon as I saw the cover, my hopes went through the roof and I was very excited to read this.
44:44.755 --> 44:48.699
[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, all the stories were there together, just made me so happy.
44:49.833 --> 45:09.063
[SPEAKER_04]: This I was so struck by this ish this comic because we we talk about there's like a all these characters in comics have like a baseline continuity that we are always getting back to I feel like and with spider man But this book will tell you it's he and Mary Jane together and in case of mostly stories married
45:09.889 --> 45:10.669
[SPEAKER_04]: But is that true?
45:11.029 --> 45:14.771
[SPEAKER_04]: I want to say that they have them and together for 75 years.
45:14.911 --> 45:15.751
[SPEAKER_04]: Alex, could you look that up?
45:16.471 --> 45:17.992
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
45:18.232 --> 45:29.375
[SPEAKER_04]: The way, well, no, that we can talk to you, but it's strange to me that we're still resetting to this idea that they're together, because that is not the status quo and hasn't been for so, so long.
45:29.475 --> 45:34.057
[SPEAKER_04]: That this generation of comic readers who haven't even seen that relationship together.
45:34.157 --> 45:34.337
[SPEAKER_04]: So,
45:34.877 --> 45:37.399
[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know, I found that to be very extreme idea.
45:37.679 --> 45:50.107
[SPEAKER_03]: And I was actually, Pete's gonna hate me saying this, but I was also put off by the fact that we're getting a Mary Jane special, which I was very excited about, and that it was all through the lens of her relationship with Peter Parker.
45:50.448 --> 45:50.668
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
45:50.828 --> 46:00.134
[SPEAKER_03]: And making it all around Spider-Man, and how Spider-Man reacts to these things, and how she reacts to Spider-Man things, when like, this should be a celebration of her.
46:00.154 --> 46:00.855
[SPEAKER_01]: Of course you said, bro, comic.
46:03.213 --> 46:29.402
[SPEAKER_03]: it should be a celebration of her as a solo character like it doesn't just have to be her relationship with one guy that bummed to be out a little bit while I was reading it even though I like the stories generally I thought they were good um there were some fun adventures there I'm excited to see what Ashley Allen does with Mary Jane going forward but yeah I don't know you don't have to just define a woman about the man that she's with
46:29.762 --> 46:49.692
[SPEAKER_01]: agreed 100% obviously yes, you know, it doesn't have to be but if we're gonna launch a series why not look at You know, maybe the past and who she's been with and see but you can see the whole your digger yourself You're like how do I get out of this all I listen.
46:50.252 --> 46:50.933
[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with you.
46:51.013 --> 46:54.995
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know You don't have to always talk about
46:56.155 --> 47:08.568
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this one aspect of her, but because it hasn't been around a lot, it would be nice to have one little comic or one pocket that celebrates a great relationship.
47:09.742 --> 47:31.257
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I hear that in the English book that is Mary Jane and Peter released a very Jane and Peter at 7,000 years of the big together special or whatever it is, not the Mary Jane special, which I'm focused on her, once said there was one bit of shade that I thought was very funny at the end of I think it was the jam to bathe a story where
47:32.577 --> 47:35.600
[SPEAKER_03]: Barry Jade almost literally it's like I love you Peter.
47:35.760 --> 47:54.774
[SPEAKER_04]: I wouldn't trade that for anything Yes, I got that as like yikes right shout across the bow wish that was true How about the the L that Peter Parker takes in the J. J. M. S. story where he just he kills someone and then is shot by a random
47:55.273 --> 47:59.936
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, oh my god, that was so dark as I thought what I wanted.
48:00.097 --> 48:04.620
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, and that was the story where really struck me what we're talking about because that was set in the future.
48:04.820 --> 48:14.507
[SPEAKER_03]: So you don't actually at all have to have anything to do with the relationship and that story and you don't have to have it be about like how Spider-Man died and that bothered Mary Jade out.
48:14.767 --> 48:34.928
[SPEAKER_03]: but yeah the last two stories just focused on Mary Jane it wasn't well and I think the last one that that Alex you mentioned by Ashley Allen is interesting and clearly leading into this next series we're going to get yeah in any case uh there you go there's the Mary Jane special she said one thing one time and now forever she's doing as the facet tiger lady
48:35.767 --> 48:52.244
[SPEAKER_03]: Moving on, talking about the dead man number three from DC Comics from my W Maximal Prince, art by Martina Marazo in this issue, they are going full on ice cream bad as dead bad at his ghost compatriot head through the different rings of hell to go find Lucifer.
48:53.806 --> 48:57.469
[SPEAKER_03]: Everything, if you've been reading ice cream bad, you know that they just play with format.
48:58.467 --> 49:09.542
[SPEAKER_03]: The idea here is that every ring of hell they go into is a different format like it's a different way of telling a story as they go through it and it's awesome.
49:09.903 --> 49:10.584
[SPEAKER_03]: This issue is great.
49:11.640 --> 49:13.581
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it's worth it for the art alone.
49:13.681 --> 49:20.206
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just so impressive, artistically, what they're doing with this, the giant splash pages.
49:20.226 --> 49:25.950
[SPEAKER_01]: The, it's just, the black and white, the, just so unique, so cool.
49:26.390 --> 49:33.015
[SPEAKER_01]: Such a great idea, such a, so well executed, like taking this character, and it's already kind of,
49:33.655 --> 49:58.182
[SPEAKER_04]: creepy theme like ice cream man has been this is just such a it seems like no brainer now like putting this team on this book uh it's just uh really impressive yeah i mean that's how i was gonna say too like is there a better outside comic book team to put on a book like this it's so good this issue is so good this to me is the issue to put up for awards it just stands alone
49:59.358 --> 50:06.445
[SPEAKER_04]: If you're a fan of ice cream man and just want to come and cold on this, I think you 100% can, but truly there's really the previous two issues.
50:06.465 --> 50:07.346
[SPEAKER_04]: They're all really good.
50:07.966 --> 50:10.669
[SPEAKER_04]: There's an interesting continuity here that's being established.
50:10.709 --> 50:16.314
[SPEAKER_04]: I haven't seen a look at hell quite like is done in this issue just top of the stack fantastic.
50:16.832 --> 50:23.978
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and it's crazy to me that this is not a black label book, but it's a in continuity book, but I'm glad it is.
50:24.239 --> 50:24.759
[SPEAKER_03]: It's awesome.
50:25.179 --> 50:25.320
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
50:25.360 --> 50:25.600
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
50:26.441 --> 50:31.885
[SPEAKER_03]: Captain America number 14 from Marvel Written by Chipsedarsky, art by Tone Lima.
50:31.925 --> 50:35.829
[SPEAKER_03]: Captain America is in hell with Dr. Doom and they're trying to rally the troops.
50:36.329 --> 50:39.251
[SPEAKER_03]: to take over hell and make it better than it is.
50:39.371 --> 50:44.775
[SPEAKER_03]: Meanwhile, opposing them is Befisto and the Red Skull among other big monsters.
50:46.336 --> 50:55.282
[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, that's generally what's going on, and I don't want to spoil it, but the last page is the silliest thing that I've read at a very long time.
50:56.287 --> 51:19.846
[SPEAKER_04]: really yeah well this the line is like very um i don't know it not to be it's just plucked out of something else in drops in here which i didn't expect but i in general i'm enjoying this arc like it's it's focus is not even really on Steve Rogers a ton like he's coming in and being very popular to a captain america
51:20.486 --> 51:42.243
[SPEAKER_04]: it's very doom focused and it's a good doom story and the cap gets to come in and just be pure sampled cap like i'm a hero and he's like he sees the red skull on the other side of this hell battlefield and he's like here we go again with this motherfucker and i'm like okay uh right at it uh but i i've been enjoying this
51:43.218 --> 51:43.618
[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
51:43.678 --> 51:50.000
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the ramp up tours, the, you know, cap and halverses red skull is such a fun idea.
51:50.020 --> 52:03.045
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, I like the cover, I thought this was really kind of cool, the doom kind of, you know, not apologizing, but owning the mistakes that he made and kind of, you know, coming in terms with that.
52:03.065 --> 52:05.025
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was cool idea.
52:05.045 --> 52:10.707
[SPEAKER_01]: And, um, yeah, I'm sorry you got kind of pulled out of the story at the end, uh, as
52:12.878 --> 52:14.319
[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
52:14.460 --> 52:20.606
[SPEAKER_03]: Master of the universe, Genesis, number one for Dark Horse Comics, written by Rich Duick, art by Gavin Smith.
52:20.626 --> 52:25.471
[SPEAKER_03]: This is a origin story for the whole continuity.
52:25.611 --> 52:29.655
[SPEAKER_03]: Here, we get Skeletor, telling a story how he came to Eternia.
52:30.876 --> 52:33.380
[SPEAKER_03]: and I got to say I thought this was pretty cool.
52:33.721 --> 52:35.904
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if this is a established lore.
52:36.004 --> 52:45.659
[SPEAKER_03]: Honestly, I assume it probably is, but I do like Hordak and Ward Prime and Ethereum from the She-Rishow, the great She-Rishow that was on Netflix.
52:46.219 --> 52:52.125
[SPEAKER_03]: So seeing Skeleton or coming out of that and fight that, I thought was fun, yeah, I don't know.
52:52.946 --> 52:55.788
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, the story time of Skeleton was a blast.
52:56.889 --> 52:59.992
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I enjoyed this very much.
53:00.012 --> 53:06.898
[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was a fun kind of walk through the kind of origin and how Skeleton got there and the things they did.
53:07.997 --> 53:10.799
[SPEAKER_01]: with a merman and beast battle and all that kind of fun stuff.
53:10.839 --> 53:16.162
[SPEAKER_01]: So if you could have skeletal or tuck you in and redo a story at night, would you do that Pete?
53:17.123 --> 53:18.084
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah for sure.
53:18.124 --> 53:19.024
[SPEAKER_03]: No question.
53:19.044 --> 53:22.006
[SPEAKER_02]: What jelly did I need to be done?
53:22.667 --> 53:24.128
[SPEAKER_02]: Good night, Lord.
53:26.959 --> 53:30.102
[SPEAKER_02]: and then old lady saying, how is she?
53:30.122 --> 53:30.342
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
53:30.382 --> 53:32.544
[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
53:32.664 --> 53:33.524
[SPEAKER_04]: This was wild.
53:34.305 --> 53:39.229
[SPEAKER_04]: The idea that Beesman and Merman are just like the last dude standing from their armies.
53:39.349 --> 53:40.050
[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, really?
53:40.070 --> 53:40.230
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
53:41.571 --> 53:44.093
[SPEAKER_04]: All the other Beesman and Merman died.
53:44.113 --> 53:45.854
[SPEAKER_04]: And these guys are just the last two.
53:46.435 --> 53:46.675
[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
53:46.695 --> 53:46.915
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
53:47.696 --> 53:51.659
[SPEAKER_04]: How many scunkors were lost in the... Oh, man.
53:52.059 --> 53:53.921
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're about to go off, you know what I mean?
53:53.941 --> 53:54.641
[SPEAKER_04]: Come on.
53:54.681 --> 53:54.882
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
53:55.382 --> 53:56.483
[SPEAKER_04]: Last of the hive, baby.
53:57.270 --> 54:06.453
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I'm counting X-Men number 33 from Marvel, right by Gelsmoan, Art by Luchiano, Vecchio, and this issue two things are going on simultaneously.
54:06.533 --> 54:18.237
[SPEAKER_03]: First, Gambit and Roe give headed off to try to exercise the demon, not the demon, this is where the dragon that is inside of a gambit, meanwhile back at Haven House,
54:18.737 --> 54:26.323
[SPEAKER_03]: The kids are figuring out what it's like to be in the mutant, not particularly loving their new teachers who are quick silver and Monet along others.
54:27.644 --> 54:28.885
[SPEAKER_03]: And some other stuff goes down.
54:28.905 --> 54:33.389
[SPEAKER_03]: I think generally we've been loving this title, does that keep up with this issue.
54:34.462 --> 54:36.363
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think this was fun.
54:36.403 --> 54:43.628
[SPEAKER_01]: We kind of get the new expert in doing some training while the kind of exercises and stuff is going around.
54:43.708 --> 54:45.930
[SPEAKER_01]: So great art, fun, action.
54:46.510 --> 54:48.891
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm continuing to have a blast with this.
54:48.911 --> 54:49.732
[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, Gail.
54:50.012 --> 54:50.613
[SPEAKER_01]: You're killing it.
54:51.433 --> 55:17.422
[SPEAKER_04]: the the game itself i i'm just a little disconnected with i don't know why i i want to see that story it feels like he's got a fly inside of him and get that fly out um the new the super fly though it's tough it's a super fly the new moon stuff i love man this quick silver take a harsh beat here like yeah really sideline called out for not even being a mutant
55:18.827 --> 55:46.328
[SPEAKER_03]: that's harsh but i love this this book is so specific and unique it's the only x-Men book that's been telling stories like this i in a decade i wish we had someone who could check the facts i think that's accurate uh yeah i really love that stuff as well i did think it was very funny the thing with they're like to the danger room and we know that they built this danger room out of wood outside of their backyard and they're not like a broken down ship
55:46.788 --> 55:58.873
[SPEAKER_03]: And the only thing I could think the entire time is like is the day-to-room splitters are they going to get a lot of splitters and then let's go it on But Anyway, okay, I decided when you said splinter Yeah, I can tell live right up.
55:59.754 --> 55:59.894
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah
56:00.753 --> 56:27.845
[SPEAKER_03]: Royals number five from image comics with my Derek Kirk Kim art by Jacob Perez the following two brothers who are psychic but just for each other they could read a send messages to each other's minds they found themselves part of a much larger conspiracy and this issue is the big action issue where they go back on the attack very fun very creatively laid out art throughout here as they get a rabbit costume
56:28.915 --> 56:31.676
[SPEAKER_03]: Stick around to try to attack the main bad guy.
56:31.796 --> 56:33.957
[SPEAKER_03]: Pete, you seem pretty excited, so what do you think?
56:34.317 --> 56:36.218
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is an absolute blast.
56:36.378 --> 56:40.319
[SPEAKER_01]: I love the art, love the action, the pace of this is very intense.
56:40.819 --> 56:43.880
[SPEAKER_01]: The brothers are back together, this is very exciting.
56:44.300 --> 56:49.882
[SPEAKER_01]: I just thought the energy of this, the art and vibe was just absolutely fantastic.
56:50.323 --> 56:52.103
[SPEAKER_01]: So much ass will up and going on.
56:52.163 --> 56:54.004
[SPEAKER_01]: This was an absolute blast, I loved it.
56:54.879 --> 56:56.440
[SPEAKER_04]: This book just keeps getting better and better.
56:56.480 --> 56:59.682
[SPEAKER_04]: I really love the way they paste it up and paste it down.
57:00.302 --> 57:09.027
[SPEAKER_04]: This is you felt like there was a lot going on, but not just a lot of great action without having a big plot drive issue.
57:09.767 --> 57:11.268
[SPEAKER_04]: And the visuals are great.
57:11.488 --> 57:13.269
[SPEAKER_04]: Just what a pleasant surprise.
57:13.289 --> 57:14.910
[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like we've said this every month.
57:14.990 --> 57:20.773
[SPEAKER_04]: But like this is a great pick up if you just want a good story that uses our superhero
57:24.815 --> 57:26.896
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
57:26.916 --> 57:36.038
[SPEAKER_03]: Ironman number eight from Marvel written by Joshua Williams in Art by Carmen Car Narrow Ironman is working with a group of geniuses to try to make the world better.
57:36.579 --> 57:48.722
[SPEAKER_03]: Meanwhile he's dating woman who a turns out has a little kid and just as he's giving the little kid a tour whiplash attacks the facility and then there's another big twist by the end of the issue.
57:54.804 --> 57:58.788
[SPEAKER_03]: No, very penny worth hominohamino level, but I'm like it.
57:59.909 --> 58:00.230
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway.
58:00.870 --> 58:03.073
[SPEAKER_01]: No, well, I mean, what was going on here?
58:03.133 --> 58:07.817
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, what's the insinuation that pepper pots has got a side piece?
58:07.937 --> 58:11.581
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what is there somebody cheating on Tony Stark here?
58:11.641 --> 58:12.722
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what was going on?
58:12.762 --> 58:13.023
[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
58:13.663 --> 58:16.285
[SPEAKER_04]: She's gonna hang she's gonna sign hang with CV.
58:16.685 --> 58:22.970
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's like y'all you got out of the air of Tony sees you you're in trouble I was like what is happening right now?
58:24.230 --> 58:34.437
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah All that the side of thought that was fun, you know the classic whip blasher's Tony is always great Great action solid art.
58:34.618 --> 58:37.900
[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't I don't like him when people get cheated on
58:39.033 --> 58:40.054
[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, really nice.
58:40.435 --> 58:43.659
[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if they're they're they're not dating pepper and Tony.
58:43.999 --> 58:44.279
[SPEAKER_04]: Are they?
58:45.381 --> 58:48.825
[SPEAKER_03]: Pepper and Tony aren't dating and pepper and citizen V aren't dating.
58:49.325 --> 58:50.447
[SPEAKER_04]: What was all that?
58:51.303 --> 59:00.071
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, they're not so far away on going mystery of citizen v who has been repeatedly telling Tony, you got to stop, you got to stop what you're doing.
59:00.271 --> 59:10.021
[SPEAKER_03]: We don't know who citizen v is, the mystery is definitely heating up in this issue as we discover that pepper pots clearly knows whoever this individual is.
59:10.541 --> 59:14.485
[SPEAKER_03]: Do you guys have a theory because I've got a theory that I can throw out there?
59:16.383 --> 59:31.373
[SPEAKER_03]: I have a lot from the future oh well my theory is that it's Tony Stark and I think the Tony Stark that we've been following this series is not to really Tony Stark I don't know exactly how it works there's been multiple Tony Stark's out there there was the AI program
59:31.793 --> 59:34.314
[SPEAKER_03]: There's been other iterations and clones, whatever else.
59:34.794 --> 59:38.115
[SPEAKER_03]: But I kind of think like, or just as mustache.
59:38.715 --> 59:42.057
[SPEAKER_03]: But no, I think that's possibly potentially what's going on there.
59:42.497 --> 59:43.257
[SPEAKER_04]: That would be wild.
59:43.577 --> 59:50.880
[SPEAKER_04]: The thing that I might be take away is the amazing, like our in-man too is a movie that people are like not hyped up.
59:51.640 --> 59:55.902
[SPEAKER_04]: But the whiplash out of that movie here, that's a good character.
59:56.142 --> 59:58.863
[SPEAKER_04]: That's a character that should be in the Marvel Universe.
59:58.963 --> 01:00:01.524
[SPEAKER_04]: And we get them here.
01:00:01.984 --> 01:00:02.684
[SPEAKER_04]: So that was cool.
01:00:02.704 --> 01:00:05.205
[SPEAKER_01]: But this comic is saying, it's agreeing with you.
01:00:05.465 --> 01:00:09.447
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, and except for the last bit, which I don't know where we're going to end up with this.
01:00:10.447 --> 01:00:15.851
[SPEAKER_04]: I just thought it was a real swansong for a movie that is quite derided.
01:00:16.331 --> 01:00:18.753
[SPEAKER_04]: I like this run that's been happening here.
01:00:19.754 --> 01:00:25.177
[SPEAKER_04]: Shout out to the cover of this, hyping artist Carmen Canaro return.
01:00:25.197 --> 01:00:27.179
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that was crazy.
01:00:27.199 --> 01:00:30.001
[SPEAKER_01]: I can't see that, you don't see that, but yeah.
01:00:30.341 --> 01:00:31.161
[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of art hype.
01:00:32.122 --> 01:00:38.449
[SPEAKER_03]: Art, hoi, absolute green lantern, number 17 from DC Comics, by All-Uing Art by Sid Cody and the big cliffhanger.
01:00:38.469 --> 01:00:43.976
[SPEAKER_03]: The last issue was the reveal of Jessica Cruz, Green Lantern, who was also possibly evil.
01:00:44.376 --> 01:00:50.723
[SPEAKER_03]: That's not quite how things turn out in this issue, as we jump back to show how she got up to that point.
01:00:51.800 --> 01:01:00.183
[SPEAKER_03]: that jump forward was a big twist that really just kind of redefined everything that's been going on with absolute green lantern in a big way.
01:01:01.083 --> 01:01:08.106
[SPEAKER_03]: Justin, earlier when we were talking about a different all-you-ing book, you're hinting at your feelings on this one, what are your feelings?
01:01:08.566 --> 01:01:10.088
[SPEAKER_04]: This is what I was talking about.
01:01:10.108 --> 01:01:13.293
[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like the criticism when this launch was like what's happening?
01:01:13.313 --> 01:01:14.715
[SPEAKER_04]: This is to confusing.
01:01:15.316 --> 01:01:18.300
[SPEAKER_04]: And I was like no, and then it really got tight.
01:01:18.360 --> 01:01:20.062
[SPEAKER_04]: And I knew what was happening was really good.
01:01:20.503 --> 01:01:23.447
[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like these last couple of issues I'm like wait, what is happening?
01:01:23.487 --> 01:01:25.109
[SPEAKER_04]: There's so much word play.
01:01:25.810 --> 01:01:29.011
[SPEAKER_04]: that I think is feels almost purposefully confusing.
01:01:29.071 --> 01:01:38.453
[SPEAKER_04]: And this issue is playing with Sinestro and using that as different words, but there's a lot of that in here, and it just feels almost purposefully chaotic.
01:01:38.693 --> 01:01:47.655
[SPEAKER_04]: When I think we have that narrow band of stuff when we were focused on Joe and her moves in this universe, I was really excited for it.
01:01:48.435 --> 01:01:58.446
[SPEAKER_04]: And I love the idea of mashing everyone up, giving them different entryways into the Green Electric Universe, different rings and all that really cool, but it's just, it's just too chaotic I think.
01:01:59.797 --> 01:02:20.559
[SPEAKER_01]: uh... i i thought this was a fun issue i really like the last panel uh... great art crazy story uh... i'm a sucker for a talking bullet you know so uh... that was very fun some great as flash page action as well so i'm just taking notes he said you are sucker for a talking bullet i just want to make sure he dragged that yeah yeah
01:02:21.800 --> 01:02:23.481
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, at that to the tracking board.
01:02:23.681 --> 01:02:24.281
[SPEAKER_03]: I agree with you.
01:02:24.341 --> 01:02:43.548
[SPEAKER_03]: It's chaotic, but moments like Toma Ray being turned into a bullet fired by Joe at a man hunter is cool or just the crews turning Mogo who was a black star into the Mogo we don't love as a planet was also really cool.
01:02:43.608 --> 01:02:49.410
[SPEAKER_03]: So it's hard for me to be like as just chaos and dismissions and I don't think that's what you're doing by the way, Justin.
01:02:50.651 --> 01:03:00.618
[SPEAKER_03]: every issue I'm like I don't know what's going on here and then something cool happens and I'm like all right, I'll stick it out from one more issue and we'll see what happens I guess in that way it's like being alive in our world
01:03:02.708 --> 01:03:04.489
[SPEAKER_04]: It's chaotic in every couple days.
01:03:04.529 --> 01:03:05.430
[SPEAKER_04]: Something cool happens.
01:03:08.171 --> 01:03:14.475
[SPEAKER_03]: What if Captain America, number one from Barbara, by Mark Guggenheim, art by Ron Lim, the LIMS?
01:03:15.676 --> 01:03:19.138
[SPEAKER_03]: In this issue, this is what if Captain America was unfrozen in 299?
01:03:19.278 --> 01:03:23.841
[SPEAKER_03]: And everybody was just standing around waiting for him to come and help out.
01:03:24.201 --> 01:03:39.476
[SPEAKER_03]: So what if he slept longer this this motherfucker hit this news button Yeah, we just kept hitting snooze There should have been a scene in this where they're like, oh, your brother's bad bad That's a terrible morning breath captain.
01:03:39.576 --> 01:03:43.559
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you missed work What I wanted to hear yes Be oh
01:03:46.442 --> 01:03:54.692
[SPEAKER_03]: All right, all I was going to say is I've generally been enjoying these what ifs even if they don't necessarily constrain to what I believe and what if issue should be.
01:03:55.253 --> 01:04:02.241
[SPEAKER_03]: This one was really interesting because it's clearly Mark Guggenheim doing some very pointed current social commentary.
01:04:02.822 --> 01:04:06.486
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, in a very direct way to the point that the end of the issue.
01:04:06.882 --> 01:04:11.747
[SPEAKER_03]: It's just Captain America doing a literal speech for two pages about what America should be.
01:04:13.028 --> 01:04:16.051
[SPEAKER_03]: But I thought other than that, it kind of worked.
01:04:16.151 --> 01:04:32.126
[SPEAKER_03]: Like it felt like a 29-9 story mostly because of Ron Limbs' art and the whole idea of Captain America being unfrozen to take back America from an America that is elected a corporation president.
01:04:32.907 --> 01:04:34.450
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, was very pointed.
01:04:34.550 --> 01:04:40.403
[SPEAKER_03]: I thought that was a very pointed smart idea that does feel unfortunately like a natural extension of where we are right now.
01:04:41.035 --> 01:04:41.735
[SPEAKER_04]: I agree with that.
01:04:42.035 --> 01:04:44.336
[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like I wanted more what if in here though.
01:04:44.576 --> 01:04:44.996
[SPEAKER_04]: Like sure.
01:04:45.116 --> 01:04:55.458
[SPEAKER_04]: I felt like I wanted a little bit more like how would the world have been different if Captain America hadn't come back I feel like nothing changed from our to 29 9 continuity.
01:04:55.878 --> 01:05:03.560
[SPEAKER_04]: I really like seeing that to 29 9 characters, especially the X man who have been largely ignored I feel like and I do like them
01:05:05.063 --> 01:05:17.243
[SPEAKER_04]: But in I like the pointed nature of a story like this, but I just wanted it to have a little more comic book veneer on top of it to make it feel like a real marvel would if story.
01:05:19.658 --> 01:05:40.758
[SPEAKER_03]: great death visual number one image comics by steppin seczic this is a continuation of a story series he did back in the day about uh... i'm getting this wrong but it's basically a battle of good and evil thing monster hunters fighting people uh... i love steppin seczic's art yeah beautiful stuff
01:05:41.663 --> 01:05:42.704
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree.
01:05:42.744 --> 01:05:51.769
[SPEAKER_01]: The monster designs are really cool, though, that one kind of, let's call a monster without a nose, and the beginning was really awesome.
01:05:52.549 --> 01:06:03.276
[SPEAKER_01]: Just really impressive, not only just character designs, but just kind of like panels and layouts, so I really love the art for action in this.
01:06:03.998 --> 01:06:09.570
[SPEAKER_04]: The art is fantastic in this, especially the big boss fight that happened at the end of the issue.
01:06:09.590 --> 01:06:10.391
[SPEAKER_04]: That was awesome.
01:06:11.494 --> 01:06:15.041
[SPEAKER_04]: This is like showing up for a part I was like, I can't look him at the cover mean like number one.
01:06:15.810 --> 01:06:16.110
[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
01:06:16.871 --> 01:06:17.311
[SPEAKER_04]: Makes sense.
01:06:17.591 --> 01:06:18.232
[SPEAKER_04]: First issue.
01:06:18.592 --> 01:06:18.953
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
01:06:18.973 --> 01:06:19.153
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
01:06:19.333 --> 01:06:19.873
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
01:06:20.013 --> 01:06:21.394
[SPEAKER_04]: Did I miss zero?
01:06:21.595 --> 01:06:27.439
[SPEAKER_03]: I miss an entire other series is the thing that he did before this, and this is a rebooted number one.
01:06:27.679 --> 01:06:28.740
[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't read that.
01:06:28.980 --> 01:06:31.943
[SPEAKER_03]: So I was completely lost in terms of the story here.
01:06:32.243 --> 01:06:32.383
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
01:06:32.403 --> 01:06:35.966
[SPEAKER_03]: They kept having people come up and be like, it's me, and I was like, I don't know.
01:06:36.606 --> 01:06:37.247
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know who you are.
01:06:37.307 --> 01:06:45.894
[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, yeah, I feel like I did I wake up in 299 Missed like you, but still the art is great.
01:06:46.354 --> 01:06:53.159
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, so good The smart division number one from Dark Horse Comics by Zach Kaplan art by John Jay Pearson.
01:06:53.199 --> 01:06:58.504
[SPEAKER_03]: We had the team on The show this week and unfortunately we didn't talk about this book, which is weird.
01:06:58.524 --> 01:06:59.725
[SPEAKER_03]: We just got a chat at about like
01:07:00.325 --> 01:07:01.846
[SPEAKER_03]: snacks we've been eating and other things.
01:07:01.946 --> 01:07:03.847
[SPEAKER_03]: I wish we had asked them about this book.
01:07:03.887 --> 01:07:10.911
[SPEAKER_04]: It's crazy because we talked about being smart and doing division like non-division and I feel like it would have been an actual segue.
01:07:11.111 --> 01:07:17.855
[SPEAKER_03]: I was talking a lot about the division that we've had in America since they forced us to put those masks on back in.
01:07:17.915 --> 01:07:19.376
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, exactly pushing your hands.
01:07:19.396 --> 01:07:26.820
[SPEAKER_01]: What a fun comeback callback that is yeah a fun cover yeah I like to you know it has a little bit of the
01:07:29.642 --> 01:07:36.987
[SPEAKER_01]: but yeah, I like how bad ass this is and the art is just next level.
01:07:37.127 --> 01:07:50.055
[SPEAKER_01]: The page layouts, the kind of watercolors, it was very art-forward in such a great way that really works with this idea and brings it to life in such a great way.
01:07:50.510 --> 01:07:56.695
[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, we talked when the conversation about the RFI was especially fun because we really got sort of under their hood with it.
01:07:57.636 --> 01:08:00.458
[SPEAKER_04]: I made a comparison to this being similar to the X files.
01:08:00.498 --> 01:08:16.311
[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like they bristled that a little bit in the interview, but I do think if you're a fan of the X files, what I was trying to say is this is a great book to jump into that uses some of those same relationships, shakes it up and modernizes it in a way that's really fresh at all.
01:08:16.720 --> 01:08:20.541
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but also to defend your choice there, JT says, you know what I mean?
01:08:20.561 --> 01:08:26.542
[SPEAKER_01]: You have an odd couple who has to work together to kind of kind of, you're a more right-peed.
01:08:26.602 --> 01:08:31.064
[SPEAKER_03]: I would compare it to the odd couple, Jack Levin, and Walter Bathow, it's very similar to that.
01:08:31.444 --> 01:08:44.487
[SPEAKER_03]: No, the thing that I didn't want to call out, and I didn't know why I was like, I feel like there'll be annoyed about this, but this is very close to a cross between world tree and department of truth, and even looks like it at points down to the letter
01:08:45.094 --> 01:09:04.383
[SPEAKER_03]: there's the conspiracy element doesn't get quite as in its head as department of truth uh... sorry peat uh... it's a little more like grumpier old men thank you that's what i was going to say but you'd like to make you girl he'd like grumpier old girl the dragon tattoo you don't feel any of that at all now wow
01:09:05.977 --> 01:09:08.738
[SPEAKER_04]: It's interesting, that's such an interesting comparison to be, I don't know.
01:09:09.339 --> 01:09:13.420
[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously because we hack it, is that it's like sneakers, it's like sneakers.
01:09:13.661 --> 01:09:14.721
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh wow.
01:09:14.761 --> 01:09:18.223
[SPEAKER_04]: The references get dustier and I love them when you see them.
01:09:18.243 --> 01:09:19.863
[SPEAKER_04]: Just, please watch that movie.
01:09:20.003 --> 01:09:20.604
[SPEAKER_04]: Great movie.
01:09:20.744 --> 01:09:21.864
[SPEAKER_04]: Robert Redford, fine.
01:09:21.904 --> 01:09:23.245
[SPEAKER_04]: It's like, hot to you guys.
01:09:23.425 --> 01:09:27.547
[SPEAKER_03]: It's like that internship that I had at a hospital where I hack their computers.
01:09:27.607 --> 01:09:28.307
[SPEAKER_03]: That's what it's like.
01:09:28.767 --> 01:09:28.987
[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
01:09:29.347 --> 01:09:29.647
[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
01:09:29.667 --> 01:09:32.008
[SPEAKER_03]: Why don't we wrap up here talking about supergirls.
01:09:32.068 --> 01:09:33.189
[SPEAKER_03]: Surveys wrap it up.
01:09:33.289 --> 01:09:38.871
[SPEAKER_03]: Number three from DC Comics, by Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan, Art by Rod Rice.
01:09:39.391 --> 01:09:46.613
[SPEAKER_03]: This is an elsewhere old tale that has been following supergirl and Callell, they escaped from Krypton, which was being destroyed.
01:09:47.073 --> 01:09:56.677
[SPEAKER_03]: But I have gone on a many various adventures leading to the revelation at the end of the last issue that she has a blue lantern ring at a
01:09:58.017 --> 01:10:20.041
[SPEAKER_03]: A crazy or directions this issue, as she creates an entire crypton for little Todd their Callll to live on with her blue lantern ring, and we find that out courtesy of Mixle Plizzic, who has taken on the form of a woman and is traveling the multiverse and telling this story from the perspective of the story.
01:10:20.581 --> 01:10:25.562
[SPEAKER_03]: So when we were talking about the What If Couched America, like not quite taking a big enough swaying,
01:10:28.802 --> 01:10:34.064
[SPEAKER_04]: This does, and just explaining what happened, it sounds so complicated, but it's told very definitely.
01:10:34.284 --> 01:10:41.587
[SPEAKER_04]: I really like the way it moves here, and the, the reveal of the blue lantern ring, I thought was done in a way that,
01:10:42.387 --> 01:10:58.182
[SPEAKER_04]: I wasn't, I thought it was exciting, I thought it was a cool twist on it, and I don't know where this is going to go, like this could go because it is an elsewhere, they could go anywhere really, but I feel like we sort of have to land back on Earth in a timely fashion, right?
01:10:59.287 --> 01:10:59.747
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
01:10:59.767 --> 01:11:01.308
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know where it's going to go.
01:11:01.328 --> 01:11:10.915
[SPEAKER_03]: Like that's definitely where they're heading, but that's one of the great things about an elsewhere else like you were saying is it doesn't have to prescribe to a story.
01:11:10.955 --> 01:11:15.118
[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't have to set them up for the next crossover or anything like that.
01:11:15.218 --> 01:11:16.939
[SPEAKER_03]: It could just follow what we're needs to go.
01:11:16.999 --> 01:11:24.544
[SPEAKER_03]: And so far, I have been really surprised in three out of three issues, so I'm looking forward to what they do next.
01:11:26.913 --> 01:11:28.215
[SPEAKER_03]: And there you go.
01:11:28.295 --> 01:11:29.616
[SPEAKER_03]: That is it for the stack.
01:11:29.636 --> 01:11:34.801

[SPEAKER_01]: Your wives asked me to send them so I don't know for you.
01:12:15.848 --> 01:12:16.989
