00:00:00
Speaker 1: Dari Noka joining us, the SEC Network to talk college football and alcoholic beverages. Dari, do you go daiquiri or pina colada ever?
00:00:11
Speaker 2: Pina colada all day over a daiquiri. All day over a daiquiri. There you go. On a vacation, somewhere around a pool or an ocean, you know, but yeah, yeah, yeah. No Phoenix a.
00:00:21
Speaker 1: Lot all day, man.
00:00:24
Speaker 2: I want to jump in on one other thing. Whatever's going on in the studio, you're not talking about like somebody making a mess, right? You're talking about the conversation in the studio. Is that what you're getting at? Cause I got my own story.
00:00:35
Speaker 3: Oh, you got it.
00:00:36
Speaker 1: I need to hear your, I need to hear your story.
00:00:38
Speaker 2: So, So now I thought you, when you said what happened to our studio, I thought somebody had made a mess in the studio.
00:00:44
Speaker 1: No, it actually stays messy, actually.
00:00:47
Speaker 2: Okay. A little known fact here. And if he's listening, he probably won't, he'll probably laugh if I say this. Peter Burns, messiest guy I've ever known. I will walk into our studio after he leaves the studio at the FCC Network. There will be cups that are partially full of water. There will be used, you know, those little toothbrushy things or little dental floss things. There'll be sitting on a little table there next to us. Man, we joke about how we got to clean up after our guy, Peter Burns. But knowing that you all live with a messy studio, then everybody's to blame. So, you know, I just threw him under the bus.
00:01:21
Speaker 1: You've got one specific violator.
00:01:23
Speaker 3: I think I've seen your guy, Doreen, complaining about Burns being messy on Twitter before.
00:01:27
Speaker 2: Probably have. He's messy as hell, there's no doubt.
00:01:31
Speaker 1: Dude, he's an LSU fan. You're lucky he doesn't leave corndog sticks all over the studio. You know what I'm saying?
00:01:37
Speaker 2: If we had corndogs in the studio, he would.
00:01:39
Speaker 1: All right, let's talk some college football here. We talk drinks, we talk messy co-workers. Let's talk college football. I was mentioning this earlier, Dari, ESPN, I think it's Heather Dinnich that does it like each week now. the college playoff kind of like, you know, you know, projection type thing.
00:01:57
Speaker 2: Right.
00:01:58
Speaker 1: And I get into the, I know it's way early. I get into this stuff. I can't help myself. And it's got six SEC teams on there. How do you feel when it's all said and done? If what would be your guess? Five was kind of my stab at it. Well, what would be your guess for SEC playoff teams when it's all said and done?
00:02:15
Speaker 2: I think four or five, 16 is really aggressive. I mean, I think we're going to end up in a, in a league where we might have, one team with one loss overall. I think, you know, you two or three that have two losses, I think if we get six, we're going to get multiple three-loss teams, which seems... unlikely, given that we haven't had a three-loss game yet, get into the college football playoff. At least I don't think we did last year. So I know Texas was close with three losses. I know South Carolina a couple years back was close, and Ole Miss was close. I don't think anybody's gotten in. Heck, Vanderbilt didn't get in last year at 10-2. But I think we've got a league, and we've already seen it. At the end of this weekend, we're already going to have, at most, two teams left without a conference loss. And it will be October 10th. So, you know, we're seeing a world where teams are beating everybody up, leading to probably more three-loss teams than we would be comfortable with if we're thinking we're going to get a half-dozen teams in the playoffs. So I'd say four or five, Matt, probably.
00:03:20
Speaker 3: Darian, a national question before some more SEC talk here, because we're talking all about the SEC playoff teams and the Big Ten. Well, we've also got Miami in the ACC, Notre Dame independent. Who have you been most impressed with so far of those two teams right there at the start of the year?
00:03:37
Speaker 2: Neither has really played much of anybody. So it's hard to make too much of a judgment. But I think Darian Minson, Malachi, Tony, just you look at those two alone. and then obviously what they can do on defense. I mean, only one team played them even remotely close, and that was Wake Forest, who I think is a pretty good football team. Notre Dame also has been completely untested. I'm kind of trying to hold out too much judgment on either of those two until they play one another. I think they're really good. I mean, obviously they'll play each other later in the year. Notre Dame has to go to BYU, which I think will be an interesting test, but So far, neither has been tested, but that's kind of been what should have been the case given the schedule they played.
00:04:17
Speaker 1: We're talking football with Dari Noka, ESPN, SEC Network. Dari, Georgia, Alabama. This is freaking going to be amazing on Saturday night. Obviously, Bama's had their success, but last time out in the SEC title game, Georgia got them. What's your feeling on this game?
00:04:36
Speaker 2: My feeling is a hell of a game, Mac. My feeling is, you know, and I think it depends. One, Georgia, how well do you defend the big play? Because Keelan Russell and his group of receivers, Lazier Brooks and Ryan Coleman Williams, and you go down the list, that's a big play waiting to happen. Keelan Russell's a star. I mean, he's a star. I think most people thought he would and were surprised that that competition wouldn't as late as it did into the fall before he was named the starter over Austin Mack. Not knocking Austin Mack. Keelan's just different. And they have really, really made A in the big play. And that's what I– if Georgia can slow that down, make Alabama have to beat them on the ground. And Bama's a good run team, too. They're way impressed. Much better this year than they were a year ago. But that's Georgia's chance. For Georgia, I don't– I think they're going to want to and have to really kind of control things on the ground to some degree and hit the occasional play through the air. But what they can do. I think if this is a lower-scoring game, I would give Georgia the advantage. If the winner gets into the high 20s or 30s, I think Alabama wins it. I'm leaning Alabama right now because I do think they'll be able to hit one or two of those plays over the top that kind of is the backbreaker for Georgia.
00:05:54
Speaker 3: Daria, I don't think anyone takes any joy or pride or anything in having to talk about Shane Beamer because of the person that he is and how he represents himself and all around him. But why do you think, not just, we know he's on the hot seat, but why do you think it's been such a struggle for him to find consistency? There's been some great moments. There's been some woe woes. Why is it so hard for them to sort of find a middle ground at consistency?
00:06:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's going to be judged ultimately by the lack of development of Lenore Sellers and the lack of development in that offense. And the Mike Shula hire set him back a ways. It was a bad hire. I think a lot of people at the time thought it was going to be a bad hire, and it turned out to be the case. You know, I do think Kendall Bryles is a good hire, but we haven't seen the development of Lenore Sellers. And in the end, to some degree, I think Shane's going to be tied to Sellers because I think you could make the case that, like, Lenore Sellers should have been the best quarterback that has ever worn that uniform, that has ever stepped through that, you know, the gates of Williams-Rush wearing a Gamecock uniform. And it just has not materialized. And I don't know what he'll end up doing in the NFL or if he'll end up, you know, doing anything in that league, but his lack of development, I think ultimately is what has really hurt Shane Beamer. And I hate to see that because he'll get fired and he'll land somewhere on his feet. Maybe not as a head coach, but even if it's a special teams coordinator and offensive assistant or somewhere, so he'll end up on a, on a big time staff somewhere and he'll get a chance somewhere else to coach. But, um, I think ultimately you look at that, just they could never really get that offense going. And honestly, Bone, as great as that six-game run was a few years ago where they blew the doors off Tennessee and they blew the doors off Clemson, I guess it was, what, two years ago, that set a really, really high bar that Shane's never been able to get back to, and it might have been kind of leading to his own demise.
00:08:07
Speaker 1: I know this, Bone. When you watch Settle In at 1245 SEC Network, there's a plug for you, Dari. On Saturday, to watch South Carolina-Florida, you need to have a daiquiri in hand. And you might need a few, Bone. I have a feeling.
00:08:19
Speaker 3: I'm going to be thinking about Peter Burns messing up the studio now when I watch him on there.
00:08:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, make sure you clean up after yourself. Don't go full Burns on the house. Dari, I wanted to ask you about Florida. They are the next opponent for the Gamecocks. in the swamp. And it just feels like John Summerall is going to be chewing those dudes a new one all week and have them ready to take the frustration out on someone else after the loss to Missouri. How do you view Florida? Cause we were kind of guilty of crowning them last week. And, uh, we were very guilty as Willie P the Missouri alum at the station, uh, bashing Missouri and joining in with everybody that was saying, why are they ranked all the time? Why are they clinging in the top 25? And we were shocked by last week. When you look at Florida now, do you still view them as, hey, they're a playoff caliber team? Or are you now wondering, is it going to be a good first year for Summerall, but maybe not playoff caliber? What do you think?
00:09:18
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think more of that. I think it's going to be a good first year, but not playoff caliber. Preseason, I had him fifth in the SEC, which was really high compared to where most people had him. I just like him, and I like the guys that stayed there to play for him. But I think South Carolina is running into something nasty Saturday, to be honest with you. You know, when Missouri hammered Florida, Doring and I were both texted back and forth with Drake, who's just a friend of ours. And whether he's a pina colada or a daiquiri, I don't know.
00:09:51
Speaker 3: Let us know.
00:09:52
Speaker 2: Ask him.
00:09:52
Speaker 3: Let us know.
00:09:55
Speaker 2: He was talking about how it's easy to coach a team that's pissed off all week because they were pissed off all week after what happened in mississippi state i think john sumrall's had a team this week that's pissed off all week and i would expect a similar type of outing that they had put up against them last week this week when they face South Carolina. I think it spells trouble for Carolina. I hate that going into a bye week for Carolina. Understanding what that could possibly mean for Shane Beamer when that game is over at Florida. I think Florida's really good. I think it's an eight or nine win team that's really good. But I wouldn't go playoff yet. But I think they're going to put up a show Saturday afternoon.
00:10:38
Speaker 3: John Summerall can't be a strawberry dad guy. I'm going to say that right now. I'm not going to ask him either. That's what I'm staying away from.
00:10:45
Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think Peter Kalanis is type of thing either. Dari, I got no time. I want you to know here. I have no time for the dude on the text line at a 980 number that is trolling your Sooners and wants to know how many daiquiris Mateer has before he goes and throws those interceptions. I got no time for that guy, Dari. All right?
00:11:06
Speaker 2: I like the interception better than the backward toss there to nobody. I would rather the ball move in a forward direction.
00:11:13
Speaker 1: I think that's fair. I think that's a fair request. I was all in on Mateer, too, man. I can't say anything.
00:11:18
Speaker 3: Hey, that game against Texas was always wild. You never know what may happen this weekend. It wouldn't shock me.
00:11:23
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:11:23
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:11:24
Speaker 2: Wait, is that 9-8-0? Who's your Oklahoma State listener, by the way? Gotta give him some credit, man. Hit some props. That team's good now. I'll admit that. That team's a good football team.
00:11:32
Speaker 1: That's a good shout from you. That's that dude likes the paycheck. And yeah, they are. We can point out the one fan of that team. I think there's two, but likes the paycheck is a name I remember. Even Dari's aware of your work. out there likes the paycheck. That team's fun to watch, man. No doubt about it.
00:11:48
Speaker 2: All right, brother.
00:11:50
Speaker 1: Why couldn't, by the way, when my Nittany Lions went out and got a coach, I know you don't give a damn about my Nittany Lions, Dory. I understand it, nor should you. But when my Nittany Lions go out, fellas, and get a coach and bring half their team with us, why couldn't we get the same results that they did at Oklahoma State when they went and got North Texas' coach and half the team? We got to Cyclones East and we're getting our rear ends kicked.
00:12:13
Speaker 2: Well, but one of the things was that OSU had a coaching staff in place on signing day. You guys didn't even have a staff in place. Like, there was no roster.
00:12:21
Speaker 1: I know, but that's because they whiffed on about 14 dudes, man. I mean, they even tried to go out to BYU and drag Satake. Anyway, this is not— no one cares. Other than to laugh at me, no one cares about my plight as a Penn State fan.
00:12:34
Speaker 3: Hey, tell Burns to tighten up there, all right, Dory?
00:12:36
Speaker 1: Likes the paycheck.
00:12:37
Speaker 2: Won't do any good, brother. Won't do any good.
00:12:39
Speaker 1: Likes the paycheck has heard you, Dari. He's very flattered. Very flattered by the attention. All right, brother. Thanks as always, man. Appreciate you.
00:12:48
Speaker 2: You got it, guys. Take care.
Speaker 1: Dari Noka joining us, the SEC Network to talk college football and alcoholic beverages. Dari, do you go daiquiri or pina colada ever?

But when my Nittany Lions go out, fellas, and get a coach and bring half their team with us, why couldn't we get the same results that they did at Oklahoma State when they went and got North Texas' coach and half the team? We got to Cyclones East and we're getting our rear ends kicked.

Speaker 2: Well, but one of the things was that OSU had a coaching staff in place on signing day. You guys didn't even have a staff in place. Like, there was no roster.

Speaker 1: I know, but that's because they whiffed on about 14 dudes, man. I mean, they even tried to go out to BYU and drag Satake. Anyway, this is not— no one cares. Other than to laugh at me, no one cares about my plight as a Penn State fan.

Take care.
