00:00:01
Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver Michael Bumpus.
00:00:05
Speaker 2: Play fake, go to roll right, jumps it off into the right flask to Michael Bumpers, who bounce us off a one tackler gets inside the forty down of the thirty five yard line.
00:00:13
Speaker 1: Powered by Seahawks dot Com.
00:00:15
Speaker 2: Matt pumpfake's looking at the gold line. He throws it into the end zone.
00:00:18
Speaker 3: Touchdown.
00:00:19
Speaker 1: Say Hawks, it's Michael Thumpers with a diving catching the end zone.
00:00:23
Speaker 2: A ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpus, and the kid out of Washington State has found himself a place.
00:00:30
Speaker 3: On this team.
00:00:31
Speaker 1: Now, here's your host, NASA Chobe.
00:00:34
Speaker 4: Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk. Michael Bumpas NASA Chobe here with you the Seahawks flying high. Three in oh, Michael Bumpus, three and oh feeling good? Feeling good?
00:00:43
Speaker 3: Yes, sir? Three and oh a.
00:00:45
Speaker 5: Before we start, y'all, I'm congested a bit, okay, so my voice sounds a little different. I got my te right here next to me doing it right, and I'm about to have a Jordan flu game on you.
00:00:54
Speaker 3: So let's go.
00:00:54
Speaker 4: Let's cause you work so hard man, you out there doing Pac twelve, you have to doing Seahawks pre game bumpa stay he show talking Kove's.
00:01:01
Speaker 3: No, I'm just I got kids. They're expensive.
00:01:05
Speaker 4: They are expensive. I haven't found that out yet, but I'm going to. I'm learning now what Yeah, but it's cheaper now, Yeah, it's cheaper now. We'll get there. We'll get there anyway. Seahawks going back to take on the Detroit Lions. That's what's on tap.
00:01:22
Speaker 1: What's on tap.
00:01:24
Speaker 4: But these aren't your dad's Lions, if that makes any sense.
00:01:27
Speaker 3: And my dad is a Lions fan. Really, that's fun, that's connective.
00:01:32
Speaker 4: Well, in no disrespect to Big Gray Roberts either, Yeah, because obviously he blocked for the one of the best running backs to ever do it in Barry Sanders. They have some good years there. But these Detroit Lions are different, right man. Dan Campbell has done a great job taking the Lions essentially out of the basement right in just three short years, went from three to thirteen and one to nine and eight to twelve and five, and honestly should have been in the Super Bowl last year. They should have beat the forty nine ers. In my humble opinion. That's the game that we watch. Either way, this team is here and they're on the map so far they started this year. They are two and one, second place in the AFC North with wins over the Rams, lost to the Buccaneers and beat the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday. Bump talking about that game, Jerry Goff, Boy, he came out firing.
00:02:16
Speaker 5: Yeah, he was read to go fourteen, first fourteen, yeahcio first fourteen before they had in completion did They jump out to a twenty to seven lead in the second quarter, and I held on for a seven point victory. The Lions got a huge break in their final possession of the first half when Golf appeared to.
00:02:31
Speaker 3: Throw a pick six, but officials rule.
00:02:33
Speaker 5: To play had been whistled dead just before the snap of a two minute warning.
00:02:38
Speaker 3: You lucky son of a gun.
00:02:40
Speaker 4: Yeah, man, we were watching that because we came home from the post game show and watching down Sports Center. I said, oh no, you can't do that to them. I'd be hot as a defensive coordinator either way. The Lions take advantage driving down the field with scoring a hooking ladder play shades of Chris Peterson Boise State anytime I see that executed bomb, that's all I can think about.
00:02:57
Speaker 5: What is it two thousand and three? I think it was a three? Later thinks about six oh six.
00:03:01
Speaker 4: Okay, because Homie composed to the life right after at the end of the game, blank on the running backs name. It'll come back to me anyway, perfectly execute a play. Then in the second half, the Lions would be held scoreless, but the Cardinals would only get three points and the Lions would lock up the road victory. Arizona had multiple chances to cut into Detroit's lead in the third quarter, but couldn't convert on critical plays. Murray throws a pick. Cardinals will stop twice on downs, so tough day for them. But you know Jerry goff in OKDA eighteen to twenty three hundred and ninety nine yards, two touchdowns, one interception. Montgomery led all rushers with one hundred and five yards on twenty three carries in one touchdown. And then for the Cardinals, Murray twenty one of thirty four two hundred and seven yards, one touchdown, one interception, also rush for forty five yards, and the rookie Marvin Harrison five receptions sixty four yards one touchdown, So not as good as the week before, but definitely some decent things still happening for the Cardinals, because as we know, they're decent football team this year. But the Lions took care of business.
00:03:56
Speaker 3: On the road.
00:03:57
Speaker 5: Yeah they did, Man, And you know, Marve Harrison, you can't all always have four catches, one thirty and two touchdowns in the first quarter. You know you're gonna have to hit the brakes a little bit, but he's gonna be on his way. Let's look at this head to head matchup, Man, the Hawks are three to zero, Lions two and one. When it comes to offenses, the Lions have the fourth rank offense, the fourth running attack, and seventh through the airwall sixteenth. When it comes to scoring points twenty points seventh for the Hawks offensively, the eighth rank offense, twenty seventh on the ground, three passing, and tied for ninth. When it comes to scoring points, they're putting up fourteen or see me, twenty four point three points per game defense.
00:04:30
Speaker 4: Look it, let's go look at here.
00:04:33
Speaker 3: The Seahawks are second overall. Yes I can't. I can't tell you what that does for my soul.
00:04:41
Speaker 5: Second overall fifteenth against the run, first against the pass, fourth.
00:04:44
Speaker 3: When it comes to points allowed.
00:04:45
Speaker 5: On the other side, the Lions are tenth overall, fourth against the run, nineteenth against the pass, and ninth overall when it comes to giving a points.
00:04:52
Speaker 3: One thing the Lions do well. They do a lot of things well, but they possessed the football. They hold on to the rock. They will grind out long drives.
00:05:00
Speaker 5: They average about thirty two minutes per game when it comes to hold onto the rock. And yeah, man, this is uh okay. So now it's starting to get a little real when it comes to success. Right, helly, I we're three games in, all right, I said, way three to four. But when I see that number two next to that total defense for the Seahawks, I just big us Mike McDonald and the gang say, I don't care who you played, okay, because that's what people are gonna say.
00:05:20
Speaker 3: Well, they didn't play.
00:05:21
Speaker 5: This, so what that's to line up and played the football game and they look good so far.
00:05:25
Speaker 4: Well, what I love about this is exactly what we were promised. If you're a Seahawks fan, all you heard about was Mike McDonald, how smart he was, and he is delivered on every single thing. When you come out number two defensive, verall number one against the past. I just love what we're seeing from a scheme standpoint, how they're executing, how guys are flying around to the football. So you'll love to see it. But that is why they play the game. So we'll definitely see how those numbers look going in the next week. But before we do that, we got to know the history. No your history, and there's been a lot of recent history with these Detroit Lions. Seahawks lead the all time series thirteen to five and what we're dubbing it as the Ray Roberts Bowl shout out to Big R Big right, so one to no. Including the postseason, the Seahawks have dominated as of late though, winning the last six matchups, and the Hawks have also won the last three games in Detroit, including the last two games. And bump, when I think about this matchup, obviously, last two years they've been shootouts, they've been bar burners. I don't think that's going to be it this year. I think it's gonna be a lot more defensive minded. But anyway, last year, Seahawks win an overtime thrill at Ford Field, and like I said the last two matchups offensively points were put up. In those two games, both teams combined for one hundred and sixty one points, which is a lot. Last year's matchup back and forth contest, Seahawks taken a ten point lead in the fourth quarter after a pick six by Trey Brown. That lead would go away with the Lions scoring ten fourth quarter points and kicking the game tying field goal at the end of regulation in overtime. Gino Smith, though, does what Gino does, led the Seahawks on a game winning drive nine plays seventy five yards, six yard touchdown pass to Tige Lockett, also one of the greatest screen grabs. If he'd been on Seahawk social media. Yeah, this week in Detroit, we kind of showed back what happened last year, and you see our girl Jen Mueller get some let's go baby up there. Seahawks won that game.
00:07:10
Speaker 3: You're joy. That's what life is about. That screenshot right there, that's life. Love it.
00:07:15
Speaker 1: Jen.
00:07:15
Speaker 4: Gino finished the game thirty two to forty one, three hundred and twenty eight yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions, nine receivers caught, passes Tyle Lockett two touchdowns, Canain also added two touchdowns on the ground for the Lions. Golf had a solid day twenty eight thirty five over three hundred yards, three touchdowns.
00:07:31
Speaker 3: You just called that a solid day. That's a good day.
00:07:34
Speaker 4: It's a solid day.
00:07:34
Speaker 1: You're right.
00:07:35
Speaker 4: But at the end he of the pick six that could have been a difference. No gospel ball. I know that mon ros Saint Brown one hundred and two receiving yards, Dave Montgomery sixty seven on the ground and right now, like I said, giving out, the Seahawks are playing right now, I do not think it'll be a shootout, but if you don't come correct, it could be because they can put up points.
00:07:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, we know the Lions. Like you said, it ain't the Lions. My dad grew up watching these are these some different dudes. So yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I hope it's not a shootout. I hope it's a bit more controlled. But as long as you get to win, who cares. All Right, let's get to what's the word in the West.
00:08:08
Speaker 2: And the Seahawks or the NFC West Champs again.
00:08:12
Speaker 4: What's the word in the West? On HOWK Talk, We'll.
00:08:17
Speaker 3: Look at the division.
00:08:18
Speaker 5: Everybody one and two except for the boys. The Seattle Seahawks three and zero at the top of the division. They're head into Week four all by themselves when they got a two game lead on.
00:08:28
Speaker 3: The division, and it's about to get real.
00:08:31
Speaker 5: Man, you're about to You're not reaching like the meat and potatoes of the of the schedule, but this is the first, like true test that you're going to game. So let's see how they do. But let's focus on what happened last week. The forty nine ers and the Rams got after four nighters in the round, they played a really good game this past Sunday. At the end of the day, if you are a Seahawks fans, there was not going to be a bad result, right either team cal lose and you're good to go. The Rams came into the game oh and two missing their best two offensive weapons, got Cooper Cup, got Pooking the cool and they also just got be by thirty one points last week to the Arizona Cardinals. How were these guys going to respond? And they did respond. They seem it was going to be a runaway and the forty nine Ers jumped out to a fourteen oh league in the first quarter. Then the Rams will respond with a sixteen play eighty seven yard drive in with a fifteen yard touchdown to Kyvin Williams, making the score fourteen to seven at halftime.
00:09:19
Speaker 3: They said, we not giving up.
00:09:21
Speaker 5: Both teams will trade touchdowns in the third quarter, and the forty niners will kick a field goal early in the four to regain a ten point lead twenty four to ten. That's when the Rams said, We're done with this madness. It's time to take over. They were scoring three straight drives while stopping the forty nine ers on their last three. The Rams out scored at the San Francisco forty nine Ers twenty to three. In the final twenty minutes of the game. The Rams set up the game winning field goal with a thirty eight yard pump return from Xavier Smith and passing fares call against Kobe Parkinson.
00:09:49
Speaker 3: What up Kobe? We see baby? Then the Rams would force.
00:09:52
Speaker 5: The forty nine Ers use all their timeouts, kicking the game winning field goal with two seconds remaining. The Rams also won their second straight against the forty nine. Man, that's that's what's up, and that was after losing nine of the past ten.
00:10:04
Speaker 3: That's crazy.
00:10:04
Speaker 5: Matthew Stafford sixteen to twenty five for twenty twenty one yards, who one touchdown too to add well four receptions for ninety three yards, and Kyen Williams had eighty nine yards rushing in two touchdowns. For the forty nine ers, Rock Party had a big day twenty two or thirty two, ninety two and three touchdowns. Wan Jennings had a career high level receptions for one seventy five and all three forty nineers touchdown. You know what's crazy about the forty nine ers. We're branding that, man, Brandy. We ain't making plays.
00:10:32
Speaker 3: Man.
00:10:33
Speaker 5: That's what hurts me is I go to bath for these receivers, for him, for Ceedland, for Jamar, Jamar show up last week. Then you go out and you look like you should have been practicing. Oh dang it, there's that coaching you coming out, coach book practicing, run your drills, do with the team.
00:10:49
Speaker 4: Well he was out there and this is that game was crazy, man. I while it was obviously happening during the Seahawks games, so we were keeping a close eye on it, man. But it's really huge. Granted it's early in the year. The Seahawks have to play the forty nine or twice, the Rams twice still, but to have a two game lead this early, Yeah, but Doeach McDonald talks about stacking wins. That's exactly what the Seahawks are doing. We hope that'll continue on Sunday when they welcome in or actually when we go to Detroit. Excuse me, take on these lines. Let's get into the matchups.
00:11:16
Speaker 6: Man up this, man up on Hawk talk, starting with the quarterbacks like we typically do.
00:11:29
Speaker 4: Jared Goff take it on this Seahawks defense. Jared Goff has had an interesting career and it's definitely ending pretty well so far for him. Andrews his fourth season in Detroit, which is crazy, and now has a Super Bowl type expectations for the first time in Detroit golf. Coming off the best season of his career since he went to the Super Bowl with the Rams of twenty eighteen, and Goff led an explosive offense of twenty twenty three. It almost got his coordinator a head coaching job. The Lions were third in the NFL on total yards, averaging three ninety four, second best passing offense afaging two fifty eight a game, and they're also fifteen points per game at twenty seven point one. Last year, like I said, he had a sixty seven percent completion percentage four five hundred and seventy five yards, thirty touchdowns, twelve picks and those were carew highs and completions and completion percentage. So far this year, goth isn't necessarily lighting the world on fire. He's seventy for one hundred and six or sixty six percent completion percentage, seven hundred and twenty three yards, three touchdowns, but four interceptions and could have had five. Last week, GoF was eighteen of twenty three one to ninety nine, two touchdowns, one pick against the Cardinals. So overall, though, we know, the Lions have the fourth ranked offense in the NFL, averaging three hundred and ninety nine yards like game in the seventh ranked pass offense. But he's found a home in Detroit.
00:12:44
Speaker 3: Man, Yeah, he's there. He got like two homes there now.
00:12:47
Speaker 4: Oh, and it just looked like the city's embraced him.
00:12:49
Speaker 2: Man.
00:12:49
Speaker 4: We talked about this a couple of podcasts ago or even Matthew Stafford, who was there for way longer, was getting booed. And now everyone's chanting golf like the city is embracing him.
00:12:58
Speaker 5: Maybe messed up. Think give Matthew Stafford a lot to work with. They've got everything. Yeah, I mean, run.
00:13:05
Speaker 3: Game, a tight end, a coach who loves him. It's beautiful.
00:13:08
Speaker 4: Over time, time heals all wounds. I get it. If you're a Detroit fan, I guess you're saying, hey, you left us, you didn't have to chase in a ring. He got his rings had for from there. Either way, time he's all lounds. I'm sure he'll be in their version of Ring of Honor and all that, and I think he has Yeah. I mean, who what quarterback even is Charlie Batch? Charlie Batch anyway, anyway, back on track. What I'm trying to say, though, is that Gough has a home in Detroit and he's been balling out and I think it's it's good for him there. But he's going to be with a big without a big weapon this week. Starting center Frank Ragnow is going to be out because of partial torn peck, and initially Campbell is like he's going to try to play through it. I said, if that man plays through, he's the toughest dude I've ever seen. But you know, if you're going to do that, then I think we'd have a field day defensively. But long story short, Gough is a baller. He he's found it in Detroit and he's definitely not the golf that we used to hear about in LA where it was like, Oh, Joshan McVay this and that. Golf is a good football player and he's definitely the toughest task the Seahawks have had all season, and it's not close.
00:14:13
Speaker 5: Yeah, Jared goff Man, I remember a couple years ago I was comparing Gino and golf like they're kind of like the same type of quarterback and both have gotten better and better every single year.
00:14:21
Speaker 3: So big up to Jared golf Man.
00:14:22
Speaker 5: I'm glad you're doing well, but I hope you don't On Monday, Let's talk about our quarterback Geno Smith against this Lions defense. He's had a great start Geno Smith to the start of the twenty twenty four season. Through three weeks, he ranks third and passing yards, thirty completions, excuse me, thirty completes of percentage, first in completions, ninth in QB are, and thirteenth in QB ragining. This is a fantastic start for Geno. The old negative thing about Geno this year is the interceptions, right, he has three on the season, and their suspect.
00:14:53
Speaker 4: Every one of them. There also, you could argue or not even close to his fault.
00:14:56
Speaker 5: You can say, oh you guys, are you guys work for the Seahawks. Listen, we keep it okay, Yeah, they're all suspect. Just watch the film they'll let you know. But on the season he's seventy seven to one O three for seven hundred and eighty seven yards, three touchdowns and three JK interceptions. Like we just mentioned, the Lions defense ranks tenth in total defense, nineteenth against the past and add any insults to injury.
00:15:17
Speaker 3: The Lion's defense will be without some key players.
00:15:19
Speaker 5: You got veteran into Marcus Davenport is going to be off for the season with an elbow injury. Linebacker Darrick Barnes is out indefinitely with a knee injury. Both starters on defense. Man, it's listen, this NFL guys are banged up. The Hawks ain't healthy, Lions ain't healthy. Show up with who you got and get it done.
00:15:36
Speaker 4: Yeah, there's no excuse, man, it is what it is. Especially you're a football player. You've known this after the first day of camp.
00:15:43
Speaker 3: Nobody healthy.
00:15:44
Speaker 4: You're not healthy again, whether it's a conditioning test, living.
00:15:48
Speaker 3: You know, there's someone in soalthy who's at Myers. I bet his body feels good.
00:15:53
Speaker 4: Yeah, no, you're right. He takes care of himself. I'm sure Dixon is doing okay. Yeah, you know what I'm saying. Let's keep going through these matchups. Running backs, Man, the Lions have a two headed monster at running back, David Montgomery Jamior Gibbs. Against the Seahawks front seven. Montgomery and Gibbs led the Lions to the fifth best rushing attack in the NFL at one hundred and thirty five yards per game. Last season, Montgomery had his best year of his career, went over one thousand yards for a second time, and sent a career high with thirteen touchdowns last year one hundred and one thousand, fifteen yards thirteen touchdowns in just fourteen games. Then you had Gibbs, Man, he was the first round pick at Alabama, had a lot of people questioning why they would take a running back in the first round. I think it was twelfth overall, and he kind of shut the haters up. He had one hundred and eight two carries, nine hundred and forty five yards, ten touchdowns, fifty two receptions for three hundred and sixteen yards in one touchdown last year. So far this season, this dynamic dual has not skipped to beat Lions. Fourth in the NFL and rushing averaging one hundred and sixty three yards per game. Montgomery on the year fifty one carries two hundred and thirty one yards, three touchdowns, Gibbs forty carries two hundred and seven yards, one touchdown, and eleven receptions for seventy six and no ton. The one area you could say the Seahawks have struggled a little bit really only during that Patriots game was in the run defense. They gave one hundred and eighty five yards to the Patriots, but rebounded really well last week against the Dolphins, allowing just sixty five yards. Through three games, the Hawks are allowing one hundred and sixty one hundred and sixteen yards on the game, which is fifteenth in the NFL. If the Seahawks can make them one dimensional, that's where they win this football game.
00:17:23
Speaker 3: Yeah, buddy, definitely that one too.
00:17:25
Speaker 5: Combo was vicious and you have to respect it. It's crazy we're saying Mike Jeri GoF throw the football because we know who he has on the outside. Let's talk about him A Monroe Saint Brown, Jamison Williams, and Sam Lavenport are porter. Why Lavenport I was saying Lamport, Sam Laparter put some respect on that man's name. One of the best tight ends in the game. Monroe Saint Bound was one of the underrated receivers in the NFL, but he he did his thing last season and he got paid for He's been featured on the Netflix show Receiver, which I've watched, my kids watch.
00:17:55
Speaker 3: My daughter actually watched it and got into it.
00:17:58
Speaker 5: That's what some He made it to a second consecutive Pro Bowl and was voted First team All Pro in twenty twenty three and one.
00:18:05
Speaker 3: Rossa.
00:18:06
Speaker 5: Brown had one hundred nineteen receptions, fifteen hundred yards, ten touchdowns. Goodness gracious, he's among the elite in the NFL man when it comes to receiver, and he's a smaller guy, so big ups to those under six footers. The two games played versus Seahawks, he has fourteen receptions two in to thirteen yards in one touchdown. Had the skipped to beat this year twenty one receptions twenty seven yards, one touchdown. Alongside of them, he had Jamison Williams. Williams looking to have a much better impact a year three. He played in just eighteen games in his first two years, with three hundred and ninety five reception yards in three touchdowns. So far this year, he's already reached half that number, with two hundred and nine receiving yards on eleven receptions in one touchdown. He's averaging nineteen yards per catch. Lastly, not Laporta, I mean, not Lavinport. It's Sam Laporta, Okay, out of Iowa. Iowa just put out them.
00:18:53
Speaker 4: Dang tiny stand up at Iowa.
00:18:55
Speaker 5: Goodness gracious the Porter man, if who you splash his rookie season, he made the NFL All Ricky Team. Of course last year eighty six receptions, eight hundred and eighty nine yards, ten touchdowns. His eighty six receptions were fourth in the NFL amongst tight ends.
00:19:09
Speaker 3: His brother from Iowa's probably above him.
00:19:11
Speaker 5: We're talking George Kittle, right, I would assume George could have more receptions than him.
00:19:15
Speaker 4: I think so. Kit.
00:19:16
Speaker 3: They have so many dudes, dang fan two goodness gracious.
00:19:19
Speaker 5: The three games in twenty twenty four, he has eight receptions for ninety four yards and the win over the Cardinals. The Porter suffered a low ankle spring, which was good news considering that he got carted off.
00:19:29
Speaker 3: It seemed worse than that.
00:19:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, it seems like it season nning.
00:19:31
Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought it was broken. It was all bad, But it seems like he's gonna be okay. Something you gotta watch on Monday Night football though, So we'll see.
00:19:38
Speaker 3: Man, they got weapons.
00:19:39
Speaker 5: Two receivers, a good a good tight end topping the game, two running backs in the backfield.
00:19:44
Speaker 3: Goodness gracious, But we got some weapons too.
00:19:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, no, for sure. And I think with the Porter, if he's not playing, that'll definitely help things out for the Seahawks defensively because he's just another weapon. He hasn't gone crazy this year, but he has guys, and I say he Jared goffis guys to throw the football too. Yep, but so does Genus Smith. Yes, DK metcalf title Lockett JSN taking on this line secondary and another week, another dominant performance by a Seahawks receiver DK last week against Miami, ten receptions, one hundred and twenty nine yards, one touchdown, back to back one hundred yard games, first time he's done that since Week three and four of the twenty twenty season. Bump. This is also the fourteenth career one hundred yard game for DK, and he had that seventy one yard touchdown that was the third longest of his career. Now has seven touchdowns with more than fifty yards. And this is crazy. This stat is the biggest one for me. I couldn't believe this is true. He needs one hundred yards Monday to become the first player in franchise history to record three consecutive one hundred yard games. What I saw that, go, that's not true.
00:20:42
Speaker 3: Margin an't do that.
00:20:43
Speaker 4: That's what I thought large ending. I thought DK's probably alreadyated at the Lockett. Yeah, Doug Baldwin, Sidney Rice, Darryl Jackson, Brian Blades. There's been some really good dudes play receiver here, So that's shocking to me. So hopefully DK can keep that going and break some records on Sunday. On the year, he's got seventeen orcs, two hundred and sixty two yards, two touchdowns. Jsen his receiver mate seventeen receptions one hundred and seventy five yards and t Lock thirteen receptions one thirty eight. Now this town, did you know South of the Seahawks be the third ranked passing attack in the National Football League at two hundred forty six yards per game. But they're taking on pretty good secondary bomb when you look at it, and kind of beyond some of the basic stats. But they got Terry on Arnold, who was the first round pick, number twenty fourth overall from Alabama. He was a first team All American while he's at Alabama and you know, all sec all those things, so you know he can play. Then you got a veteran quarterback, former Super Bowl champion, Carlton Davis. He joined them after spending six years in Tampa. In seventy five starts, he's got three hundred, twenty tackles, seventy three pass defense in twelve TFLs, nine interceptions, bunch of fumble recoveries, and he's really impressed, as head coach Dan Campbell said, really impressed out he's played this year. Sticky and coverage, physical in the run game, and you know those guys have kind of set a tone to sively bumped in that secondary a little bit. And there's a couple more stats, Bump. I'm gonna let you take these because I'm kind of surprised how well their secondary is played.
00:22:10
Speaker 5: Yeah, Detroit has as many interceptions three as passing touchdowns allow through the first three weeks of the season, and opposing quarterbacks having eighty three point eight passer rating against the Lions this season, which rings tenth in the NFL. Not only do the Lions have the tenth best passer rating against this season, but after struggling so much last season defending the deep passing game, Detroits allowed just two completions on passes that travel at least twenty.
00:22:36
Speaker 3: One yards in the air through three games.
00:22:37
Speaker 5: Ridiculous opponents are two four eleven for forty nine yards, with no touchdowns, one interception and a seven point eight passer rating on those passes. Well, you know what you ain't seeing, fourteen. Yes, you eighteen as seven do with things. So that looks good and good for you, Detroit. I'm happy you've done well, but you're gonna see fourteen do a thing, oh.
00:23:00
Speaker 4: No, without question. So it'll be a fun matchup. Like I said, they have a good secondary. They're playing good football. The same way that people have questioned whether what the Seahawks have done is real is the same way we're questioning what their defense is doing. So it'll be fun to see that. And then you got the one matchup. Of course, we've gone this long surprisingly without mentioning his name, and that is Aiden Hutchinson versus everbody, erbody, everyone.
00:23:22
Speaker 5: Man, you gotta help, you gotta help, you gottatach it, tight end, you gotta chip block him. He was the number two pick in the twenty twenty two draft out of Michigan.
00:23:31
Speaker 3: He's a baller. His production is off the charts.
00:23:32
Speaker 5: His rookie year, he had fifty two tackles, nine TfL, fifteen quarterback hits, nine and a half sacks, and three interceptions. He followed that up with a solid campaign during the sophomore season, fifty one tackles, fourteen TFLs, thirty three QB hits, eleven and a half sex, seven passes defended, in one intercession that earned him his first trip to the Pro Bowl. So far this season, Hutchinson has been active. He's already got sixteen tackles, six and a half sacks, goodness, eleven QB hits six TFLs.
00:24:00
Speaker 3: Lily needs to know where nine seven is at all times.
00:24:03
Speaker 4: Yeah, and you know the Seahawks again Stone for stythe has been playing some good football and we're Hutching's kind of lems up. He'll move around, but he's primarily going to be rushing from the offensive right defensive left, So it'll be a big task for this old line. You talk about chipping whatever you gotta do tight ends. I love that Pharall Brown is back, but he's a guy that is good up front and doing anything you can for ninety seven. And the one thing about Aiden Bump, I'm sure you've seen this, and I know a lot of people who are watching or listening to this podcasts have seen. There's that one clip, viral clip of Aiden back at Michigan. I think they're playing Ohio State. Yeah, and he's calling his shot and he's essentially in the tackle though, like you better bring it, and then he proceeds to pancake him immediately.
00:24:39
Speaker 3: That's so demoralizing.
00:24:40
Speaker 4: Oh my goodness that you just has a motor dog.
00:24:42
Speaker 3: Man. If I were I couldn't, I'm glad you know.
00:24:46
Speaker 2: Uh.
00:24:46
Speaker 5: Social media wasn't around back in my day because I'd have to live relive some of those moments my kids like why are you doing you like that? Like, hey, I got mine two though, don't trip right, Hey aid Man, he's a beast.
00:24:57
Speaker 4: Yeah, No, Aiden Hutcheson in ninety seven is definitely a beast. But for the Seahawks to win, there need to block him. And we'll tell you how the other way. The Seahawks are gonna win. Pat the victory.
00:25:07
Speaker 2: After forty five waits for the snap, Michael Vickton puts it down.
00:25:11
Speaker 3: That kick is away.
00:25:12
Speaker 4: If that kick.
00:25:13
Speaker 3: Is gone, good day off win. It's gone.
00:25:17
Speaker 1: It's a pass to victory.
00:25:18
Speaker 4: On Hawk Talk, honestly, bomb this is the first real measuring stick type of football game. And for me, I think for the Seahawks, just still let the moment get too big. It's prime time. You're gonna have half the nation watching you, and just keep it simple what you've been doing. And I don't think that's gonna be an issue at all. It's just kind of something to say because I know McDonald's gonna have this team ready to go. I have all the confidence in the world and how their preparation is going this week, and really, you know, I'm hoping this year because I feel like last year early in the season, when the Seahawks are getting ready to play the Ravens, ironically coach McDonald's defense, it felt kind of like a measuring stick type game too, right, there were five and two. Everyone's kind of talking about it, and we all know how that went.
00:26:00
Speaker 3: Now the master for out to talk about it behind that.
00:26:03
Speaker 4: Is on the good side now, So I'm very confident what these guys are gonna do and make life hard for Jared Goff. He's one of the best quarterbacks he has to play this season already strowing four interceptions. He's throwing two pick sixes each of the last two times the Seahawks have played there. So make life tough on him. Take away the football and think good things gonna happen.
00:26:18
Speaker 3: Spoon got one of them? Did we get the other one? Now? Reaking tray, reaking tray.
00:26:23
Speaker 5: Okay, let's go all right, another thing you gotta do a Monroel Saint brown man, he's the lead sybil As that believe in it.
00:26:29
Speaker 3: Drink the kool aid. Whatever he is good to go.
00:26:31
Speaker 5: You have to make sure he does not go off, and of course you have to stop the run. The Lions have the fourth best rushing attack in the NFL. They got Montgomery, they got Gibbs. They will pack it in, bringing another lineman, two tight ends. Let you know, this is a run formation. We're running the football. What are you gonna do about it? So you gotta be able to stop the run and then build off of what you did last week. You at that one to eighty five performance by New England last week, he shore some things up. You were good in the red zone. You only allow three points, which is I don't care who you're playing. That's amazing. Build off of what you did last week.
00:27:04
Speaker 4: Yeah, and you have those three points when they got the ball the five yard line.
00:27:06
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:27:07
Speaker 4: So yeah, this defense is balling out doing what they gotta do, and offensively, bump, strike early and often when you play with a lead, it is wild how good and how everything defensively is open to you when you're playing from the lead and you're making them one dimensional. Coach McDonald want to get that done. Last week they did. They went up seventeen to three, and then it was a completely different ballgame for the Dolphins. So let's keep that going and then build off of last week, like we continue to talk about run the football, grind them down. They're pretty damn good against the run, but they're banged up right now. Davenport's gone, Barns are linebackers out, so take advantage, get after them and grind them down.
00:27:40
Speaker 3: There we go, man, grind it.
00:27:42
Speaker 5: Hey, you get Deka the ball please, ll y'all do't y'all don't like completions.
00:27:45
Speaker 3: Deep, don't worry about it. Fourteen got you. Let's go get it.
00:27:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, man, I'm I'm really excited about this matchup in primetime Monday night football, Seahawks going across the country to take on the Detroit Lions. Now, we're gonna have you covered.
