אודות פרק זה
What do you do when you’ve spent 30 years holding the microphone, reporting on other people’s worst days, only to find yourself as the lead story on the evening news?
Beth McDonough is a duPont Columbia and Emmy award-winning investigative reporter who covered tragedies like 9/11, the Oklahoma City bombing, and the death of Prince. But her life took a devastating turn when two DUIs led to a public firing, the seizure of her car, and the foreclosure of her home. Lying on a cold metal cot in a jail cell, Beth realized she had dropped an "atomic bomb" on her life.
In this raw and powerful episode of FailCraft, Beth joins Ezekiel to discuss the reality of being "damaged goods" in the public eye. She shares the visceral details of her "perp walk", the medical science of why alcohol hits women harder, and the incredible moment of mercy from a judge that changed the course of her recovery.
In this episode, you’ll discover:
* The Newsroom Exile: What it feels like to walk into your workplace as "hot property" and realize you’ve gambled your career away.
* Public vs. Private Rebuilding: The unique challenge of recovering when your mistakes are documented on the internet forever.
* The High-Functioning Trap: Why Beth believed covering mass disasters gave her the backbone to "handle" her addiction.
* The Superpower of Sobriety: How Beth went from picking up dog poop for $20 to reclaiming her self-respect.
* Redemption & Resilience: Why silence does not save lives and how to start the "construction project" of your own recovery.
This episode is for anyone who feels unredeemable, anyone battling addiction, or those who need to know that their worst day doesn't have to be their last act.
