אודות פרק זה
2 Chronicles 16 explained. King Asa turns away from trusting God and relies on a foreign alliance, revealing how even a faithful beginning can end in spiritual decline.
When Baasha, king of Israel, threatens Judah, Asa pays Ben-hadad, king of Aram, to break his alliance with Israel. Although the strategy succeeds militarily, the prophet Hanani rebukes Asa for relying on Aram instead of the Lord. He reminds Asa that “the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth” to strengthen those whose hearts are fully His.
Rather than repent, Asa imprisons the prophet and oppresses some of his people. Later, when he develops a severe disease in his feet, he seeks help from physicians but does not seek the Lord.
2 Chronicles 16 warns that past faithfulness does not guarantee present faithfulness. God desires our continued trust, not merely a history of devotion. Asa’s decline points us toward Jesus Christ, the perfectly faithful King, who remained obedient to the Father throughout His life.
