Philippe Mario Aghion FBA (born August 17, 1956) is a French economist who is Centennial Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and Professor at the Collège de France. He is also an Associate in the Growth Research Programme at the Centre for Economic Performance.

Aghion was born in Paris, the son of Gaby and Raymond Aghion.Aghion is a graduate of the École Normale Supérieure de Cachan (ENS Cachan, Mathematics Section), has a Diplôme d'études approfondies (DEA) in Mathematical Economics from University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne, and a Ph.D. from Harvard University (1987).
