00:00:00
Speaker 1: Well, a cracking game I'm expecting tonight live on Double A, Timmy G. The last three games versus these two teams in Lonnie have been decided by not a lot three points two to the Hawks. One too and La joining us as head of development. Daniel G and Siracuza.
00:00:16
Speaker 2: How are you, buddy, I'm well, thank you, thanks for having me.
00:00:20
Speaker 1: Well, going to trend. It's going to be under a goal.
00:00:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, we're expecting a very tight game, obviously, two quality sides. Crows got themselves into some really good form last week and we need to bounce back. So short week with a quick turnaround, and when you perform like we did, that's probably a good thing. So looking forward to a really hot contest.
00:00:41
Speaker 1: Yeah, Crows are off the fiver as well, so give us the conditions. Jeers at windy, slippery, cold, miserable.
00:00:47
Speaker 2: What's it like? No, No, it's a perfect day's forecast to be about three degrees, so I think it'll be quite sipri and dewey. But in terms of rain and wind, it's very still and we're expecting that tonight as well.
00:01:00
Speaker 1: Two beginnings maybe Old Choll and Connor Nash is a terrific inside MIDI for you.
00:01:06
Speaker 2: So two begins, Yeah, yeah, they are begins. We haven't had Tolly for a while obviously now she had the concussion so he had to miss a week and he's been really good form and against a team like the Crows who are good in the contest. He's going to be an important player for us. And a couple of other younger guys that get their opportunity Bata McDonald who's been playing really well in the VFL and fellow South Australia and Cam nun who's by his time had a bit of an injury over the preseason. But we've been really impressed and great to see him get his opportunity. Yeah.
00:01:38
Speaker 1: Great, you get a debutante. Central's boy.
00:01:40
Speaker 2: We know him.
00:01:41
Speaker 1: Well, where's he going to play? How's he going to go? Give us a bit of a story of Cam how he settled in.
00:01:47
Speaker 2: Yeah, he's been really impressive. He's a real student of the game, which I'd probably say that the ones that come in nowadays you get a mixed bag there. So he loves watching his footy and he's a bit of a sponge and constantly talking to Jack Dunstan and the more experienced players as well as watching a lot of visions, so he'll play forward, but we've played him on a wing at the VFL level as well, so get a little bit of time up there. So a really good tank and uses a ball well. So looking forward to what he can put out on the park tonight.
00:02:14
Speaker 3: Just in that space, Daniel, I've sort of thought to myself, I reckon development now is like one of the key pillars of an NFL club and you've just come in as the head of that at Hawthorne. From your time of playing to the young fellows you're dealing with now, what would just say is the number one difference between that era and now The ones.
00:02:36
Speaker 2: Coming in expect to play really quickly. When I first started playing, it was sort of like sit down and be quiet and you'll get caught upon when we decide. Whereas there are a lot better developed with the way they come through the pathway, so it's to their credit that they're more ready to go. But as a football club, we're going to make sure that we give him the best chance to succeed. And it's not only their foot that we work on, it's everything sort of from preparation and outside the game, so they're not good at getting all consumed by just football, and I think we get a pretty good balance without here at Hawthorne Excellent.
00:03:12
Speaker 3: You're one of the clubs using two rucks. You have big Meat and reeves. How are you guys finding that working that through each game and the amount of time you.
00:03:22
Speaker 2: Give both, Yeah, it's a constant evolution and I think Sam's been quoted as saying that we weren't too sure how it was going to work at the start of the season. We've had pretty good success with having the two. It means that you can give probably more game time to the runners. That does frustrate the Rucks at times, especially you know Lloyd Meek, who was a guy that played a lot more games I over the last few years. But the rules have changed so not only the bends but the center bounces. It has a big impact on the game and we think we're getting the balance at the moment. It's a management with our players and especially those two rucks, and I think it will continue to evolve throughout the year and depending on who you're coming up against, you'll make calls.
00:04:07
Speaker 1: Accordingly, pteil Thorpe's beck, you don't have barress the what's the matchup of playing there, Dan, Yeah, it's.
00:04:16
Speaker 2: It's going to be a shared load with the guys that've got down there. Josh Battle has done an outstanding job. Obviously not as tall as Riley, but that's the and Sis and Joshweddel and these guys. Hopefully it is a bit greasy in that regard that they can get the ball to ground and then he's got to chase them out. So is an exceptional player. And it also depends on up the ground. We make sure we've got pressure on the ball so they're not getting it crisp and into his hands. That's going to be a key part to it. Both teams, as I've said before, really strong around the ball, and the team that usually wins that battle and gives their forward access inside fifty is the one that usually comes out on top.
00:04:53
Speaker 1: Yeah, they're cool. North played Crowsy. They will some sort of form, certainly in that second quarter ten on two goals. What will you need to deny the Crows? What's the plan?
00:05:05
Speaker 2: I think? Yeah, it was a bit different to what the Crows have done in the past, with a bit of a smaller lineup as well, so we've watched that game. You know, it was reasonably even apart from that second quarter. So but I think when you play the Crows, as I continue to say, they're really strong around the ball, they stick and break tackles, they like it in the contest, We're going to have to make sure that we were up for it in that department. And you know, then I think if we can get it on the outside and transition and play a bit more like us, We've probably struggled a bit with that over the last couple of weeks. So looking forward to putting our best foot forward. As you said, those inclusions I think will help that. But it's step up for a cracking game and hopefully every I'm decited to watch it on a Thursday night to start the round.
00:05:49
Speaker 1: Oh god, it will be. I can't wait for tonight to be a cracker on double eight. These starts haven't been too well. Have you focused on that? And how do you ensure that you guys can Because if you watch the eleven minutes of North and Adelaide.
00:06:02
Speaker 2: Oh boy, where weed chere?
00:06:04
Speaker 1: They were stinky.
00:06:07
Speaker 2: Two goals, three to nothing. I did watch that first part before I went over to our game. So yeah, well, capitalizing on the opportunity to get is the key. But again on a night like tonight when it's going to be quite cold and the ball bey on the ground affair. But we're going to make sure that we get our contest shape and balance, right. I think if we can do that, we'll give ourselves plenty of opportunities. And we're pretty confident our forward line. There's plenty of spark there. Nick Watson's in outstanding form and we want to pin it in there and hopefure, hopefully it doesn't come out.
00:06:38
Speaker 3: Jack Gunstan started off magnificently again this year before injury. How far away will he be?
00:06:43
Speaker 2: He was really close, you know, he is thirty four, so he's going to be really important in the back halfter year. So he'll tell us and his body will tell us when he's ready to go. But I'd expect that he play next week hopefully.
00:06:55
Speaker 3: Adelaide chose not to pick Calotte Walker, so how the how do he feel as an opposition with Taylor will can not play?
00:07:03
Speaker 2: Well? He's an outstanding player and he's a champion of the competition, has been for a long time. So it's one left headache. But as we mentioned before, you know, they went a little bit smaller last week, so yeah, I think this gives them a contest player with only one of the tools coming back in. It looks like they're exploring their best makeup and best lineup. So yeah, as I said, it's one less headache we've got because he can obviously be a threat. But they're a very balanced team and across the board there's going to be plenty that we've got to got to stop to make sure we get the contest in our favor.
00:07:36
Speaker 3: Well, one bloke I think definitely leads away. He is the skipper, Jordan Dawson. He has his fewest disposals against you guys. You guys obviously focus in on him because you raid him as a player, and you must you must have a player around him.
00:07:52
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:07:52
Speaker 2: I saw him at the coffee shop before actually.
00:07:54
Speaker 4: So we got started already day so we were keeping a close eye on him even throughout the day. Now, he's an exceptional player, as they do have, like when Rankin and Raschelle and the guys come up around the ball. It's definitely something you have to be aware of. But the best teams have got a lot of threats that you've got to try and be aware of. We're going to make sure we focus on Arston Connor Nash is obviously a similar sized body team, so that'll be one that he'll be around him. But I think as a collective from a midfield group, we're going to make sure we get it in our favor and win more of the contest and get the ball forward for us.
00:08:29
Speaker 1: The three a W team called Scotty Campriali and I know you know him, Jeer the George Clooney of coaching, And he said no, no, no, no, no, Daniel g and Syrahcuza he did. He is the George Clooney of coaching, which is a great feather in your cap. Dan, you good looking to you now, George matey.
00:08:54
Speaker 2: I think it just means you've got a lot of great here. It is.
00:08:56
Speaker 1: But that's okay. Now your name always comes up with coaching. Yeah, yeah, the counting job still got the desire, Yeah, I do.
00:09:05
Speaker 2: I spied to be a senior coach at some stage, and I'm really enjoying my time at the Hawks and learning off Sam and that's a clear focus for me at the moment and excited by this new role. Haven't done it before. I've been a line coach and coaching the VFL, so really focusing on that, and when you see a debutante like tonight, it sort of makes it exciting about the job you're trying to do with the rest of the development crew at the Hawks. So I'll continue to focus on that and if something happens down the track, we'll see how we go.
00:09:35
Speaker 1: Tezzi's a bit cold for you. I mean, you know, if that job come up with you put your hand on.
00:09:41
Speaker 2: I enjoyed my run this morning, even though it was quite fresh.
00:09:44
Speaker 4: So yeah, you never say never.
00:09:47
Speaker 2: But the comp keeps expanding and it's a good thing for the game, and it continues to grow and everyone loves it, which is a great thing.
00:09:54
Speaker 1: Now, secretly, the coaches, the players, you'd be quite tough that Tezy's coming in and you guys and allowed to play there anymore, wouldn't you? Be honest?
00:10:03
Speaker 2: Honestly, no, And I've only I've only been here. I've only been here about six months. But we see it as a real advantage for us, and it's quite unfortunate that, you know, all the work the club's done here is twenty five years we're not going to get that opportunity, but we've still got eight months down here and we'll continue to put on a good show for the Tasmanians and hopefully enjoy the product that we're providing for them over the next eighteen months.
00:10:30
Speaker 1: Last three times they've played over there, three points Hawks. Then it was three points head laid. Last year three points Hawks. Guess what, g it's our turn mate, three points head laid. Well, that's how word, that's how it works. Come on mate, Well I hope not.
00:10:49
Speaker 2: For the new tools. I'm sure they'll be loving. That's going to be a cracking game, but hopefully it goes our way tonight.
00:10:55
Speaker 1: You're a great man. Thanks for your time, guys.
00:10:57
Speaker 2: Thanks having me.
00:10:58
Speaker 1: Daniel G and Syracuse there. He is the head of development correct Massive game here and here on Double A. I cannot wait Hawks the Adelaide
