TUNGKOL SA EPISODE NA ITO
Social media was supposed to bring us closer. Instead, algorithms may be pushing us further apart.
On this episode of The Boomer Effect, Jerry and Rose sit down with Jeff Dornik, founder and CEO of Pickax, to examine how social media has evolved from a tool for connecting with family and friends into an algorithm-driven system designed to capture our attention, amplify outrage, and keep us scrolling.
Jeff argues that algorithms have increasingly replaced relationships—and that even free speech means little iftechnology determines who actually gets to hear it. We talk about the difference between freedomof speech and freedom of reach, shadow banning, the impact of social media on families, churches and young people, and whether today's digital culture is contributing to America's growing loneliness.
From a Christian perspective, we also ask an important question: How can we use technology without allowing technology to use us?
Jeff shares why he created Pickax, how it differs fromtraditional social media platforms, and what a healthier digital community might look like—one built around genuine connection, free expression and real relationships rather than engagement at any cost.
