00:00:03.520 --> 00:00:13.039
The world is loud, truth feels confusing, and life has a way of making us forget what matters most.
00:00:13.519 --> 00:00:24.160
But through scripture, honest conversation, and real stories of faith, remember who the king is exists for one purpose.
00:00:24.480 --> 00:00:27.120
To point back to Jesus.
00:00:27.359 --> 00:00:29.280
This is more than a podcast.
00:00:29.440 --> 00:00:30.559
It's a reminder.
00:00:31.280 --> 00:00:35.119
The king is still on the throne.
00:00:43.119 --> 00:00:47.200
Welcome back to Remember Who the King Is.
00:00:47.439 --> 00:00:54.159
Um we we had uh last episode such uh an eye-opening episode.
00:00:54.240 --> 00:01:01.520
We're talking about David, and man, he he was a man after God's own heart.
00:01:01.679 --> 00:01:02.880
God chose him.
00:01:03.119 --> 00:01:07.280
He was king and he made some awful decisions.
00:01:07.439 --> 00:01:09.040
We all make awful decisions.
00:01:09.200 --> 00:01:14.400
And so this is really this is really a life learning podcast.
00:01:14.480 --> 00:01:15.519
That's what we're all about.
00:01:15.680 --> 00:01:16.799
And not just for you.
00:01:16.959 --> 00:01:22.879
We don't want to just talk, have you listen, have you read your scripture and and start to change.
00:01:23.040 --> 00:01:24.000
We want to change.
00:01:24.159 --> 00:01:26.079
We want to apply it to our own lives.
00:01:26.239 --> 00:01:30.159
We want to grow, and we want to talk about that on the podcast.
00:01:30.400 --> 00:01:34.000
Uh last last episode I mentioned, I'll briefly mention this.
00:01:34.159 --> 00:01:37.359
Uh, the website is rememberTheKing.com.
00:01:37.519 --> 00:01:43.760
Please send us your comments, your questions, uh, anything you have as an idea.
00:01:43.920 --> 00:01:45.519
I would love to talk about this.
00:01:45.680 --> 00:01:50.959
Send that to us, and we will discuss that right here uh on the podcast.
00:01:51.200 --> 00:02:02.640
Anyway, my name is Chad Muncie, and I'm here with Donnie Prince and Mark Barry, and today we're diving into the second part of what happens to David.
00:02:02.799 --> 00:02:13.280
So please get your Bibles out, follow along, and get your notebook out and take some notes so that you can practically apply this stuff to your life.
00:02:13.520 --> 00:02:15.360
Donnie, where are we at?
00:02:15.759 --> 00:02:23.039
Well, we're in uh we're in 2 Samuel, and today we're reading chapters uh twelve and thirteen.
00:02:23.199 --> 00:02:39.360
And so, you know, that's where we're that's where we're going today, and we're picking up where we left off in our last episode where uh you know David had the uh affair with uh a man that he knew, Uriah the Hittite, his wife Bathsheba.
00:02:40.080 --> 00:02:48.560
And David has uh made some really tough decisions after that, and he's put Uriah in a position where he was killed.
00:02:48.719 --> 00:02:52.960
And he's taken Bathsheba to be his to be as one of his wives.
00:02:53.280 --> 00:02:58.719
And so now we're picking it up in chapter twelve where Nathan rebukes David.
00:02:59.680 --> 00:03:03.360
So the Lord sent Nathan the prophet to tell David this story.
00:03:03.680 --> 00:03:08.639
There were two men in a certain town, one was rich and one was poor.
00:03:08.879 --> 00:03:12.080
The rich man owned a great many sheep and cattle.
00:03:12.319 --> 00:03:16.560
The poor man owned nothing but one little lamb he had bought.
00:03:16.879 --> 00:03:20.800
He raised that little lamb and it grew up with his children.
00:03:21.039 --> 00:03:25.280
It ate from the man's own plate and drank from his cup.
00:03:26.400 --> 00:03:29.840
He coddled it in his arms like a baby daughter.
00:03:30.159 --> 00:03:43.199
One day a guest arrived at the home of the rich man, but instead of killing an animal from his own flock or herd, he took the poor man's lamb and killed it and prepared it for his guest.
00:03:43.759 --> 00:03:52.879
David was furious, as surely as the Lord lives, he vowed, any man who would do such a thing deserves to die.
00:03:53.120 --> 00:04:01.199
He must repay four lambs to the poor man for the one he stole and for having no pity.
00:04:02.000 --> 00:04:05.840
Then Nathan said to David, You are the man.
00:04:06.560 --> 00:04:13.919
The Lord the God of Israel says, I anointed you king of Israel and saved you from the power of Saul.
00:04:14.240 --> 00:04:24.639
I gave you your master's house and his wives and the kingdoms of Israel and Judah, and if that had not been enough, I would have given you much, much more.
00:04:25.360 --> 00:04:32.160
Why then have you despised the word of the Lord and done this horrible deed?
00:04:32.480 --> 00:04:39.120
For you have murdered Uriah the Hittite with the sword of the Ammonites and stolen his wife.
00:04:39.439 --> 00:04:49.680
From this time on your family will live by the sword, because you have despised me by taking Uriah's wife to be your own.
00:04:51.199 --> 00:04:58.639
This is what the Lord says, Because of what you have done, I will cause your own household to rebel against you.
00:04:58.879 --> 00:05:07.040
I will give your wives to another man before your very eyes, and he will go to bed with them in public view.
00:05:07.439 --> 00:05:14.319
You did it secretly, but I will make this happen to you openly in the sight of all Israel.
00:05:15.600 --> 00:05:20.720
Then David confessed to Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord.
00:05:21.279 --> 00:05:28.079
Nathan replied, Yes, but the Lord has forgiven you, and you won't die for this sin.
00:05:28.720 --> 00:05:36.959
Nevertheless, because you have shown utter contempt for the word of the Lord, by doing this your child will die.
00:05:37.680 --> 00:05:45.279
After Nathan returned to his home, the Lord sent a deadly illness to the child of David and Uriah's wife.
00:05:45.519 --> 00:05:48.000
David begged God to spare the child.
00:05:48.240 --> 00:05:52.079
He went without food and lay all night on the bare ground.
00:05:52.399 --> 00:05:57.519
The elders of the household pleaded with him to get up and eat with them, but he refused.
00:05:58.800 --> 00:06:01.519
On the seventh day the child died.
00:06:01.759 --> 00:06:04.160
David's advisors were afraid to tell him.
00:06:04.319 --> 00:06:08.319
He wouldn't listen to reason while the child was ill, they said.
00:06:08.639 --> 00:06:12.879
What drastic thing will he do when we tell him the child is dead?
00:06:13.759 --> 00:06:17.439
When David saw them whispering, he realized what had happened.
00:06:17.759 --> 00:06:18.879
Is a child dead?
00:06:19.120 --> 00:06:19.759
he asked.
00:06:20.000 --> 00:06:21.360
Yes, they replied.
00:06:21.680 --> 00:06:22.720
He is dead.
00:06:23.040 --> 00:06:29.439
Then David got up from the ground, he washed himself, put on lotions, and changed his clothes.
00:06:29.680 --> 00:06:32.800
He went to the tabernacle and worshiped the Lord.
00:06:33.040 --> 00:06:37.519
After that he returned to the palace and was served food and ate.
00:06:38.319 --> 00:06:42.240
His advisors were amazed, we don't understand you, they told him.
00:06:42.480 --> 00:06:46.160
While the child was still living you wept and refused to eat.
00:06:46.480 --> 00:06:51.680
But now that the child is dead, you have stopped your mourning and are eating again.
00:06:52.319 --> 00:07:02.079
David replied, I fasted and wept while the child was alive, for I said, Perhaps the Lord will be gracious to me and let the child live.
00:07:02.399 --> 00:07:05.040
But why should I fast when he is dead?
00:07:05.360 --> 00:07:07.680
Can I bring him back again?
00:07:08.480 --> 00:07:13.439
I will go to him one day, but he cannot return to me.
00:07:14.480 --> 00:07:18.319
Then David comforted Bathsheba his wife and slept with her.
00:07:18.560 --> 00:07:24.720
She became pregnant and gave birth to a son, and David named him Solomon.
00:07:25.040 --> 00:07:36.560
The Lord loved the child and sent word through Nathan the prophet that they should name him Jedediah, which means beloved of the Lord, as the Lord had commanded.
00:07:37.040 --> 00:07:40.800
You know like we talked about before.
00:07:45.519 --> 00:07:46.639
All of us, right?
00:07:46.800 --> 00:07:50.879
You know, all of us, and I can promise you, I ain't perfect.
00:07:51.519 --> 00:07:54.319
I made about every kind of mistake you can make.
00:07:54.480 --> 00:07:56.079
And I ain't too proud to say it.
00:07:56.319 --> 00:07:58.800
But you know, God loves us anyway.
00:07:59.040 --> 00:08:10.399
You know, in this in this situation with David, like for the rest of his life, he he you know, if as folks say, look, we we hope you're gonna read ahead, you know, in in uh in on our podcast.
00:08:10.560 --> 00:08:19.600
We read these things, but our hope is that you will want a gold star and you will read ahead the farther in David's story because there's so much more to read.
00:08:19.920 --> 00:08:24.079
But you know, at first it looked like David might have got away with this thing, right?
00:08:24.319 --> 00:08:32.080
Uriah's been killed in battle, David, you know, marries Uriah's wife, he's got her, you know, in a in his home, so on and so forth.
00:08:32.559 --> 00:08:38.480
But when God says the sword will never leave your house, he ain't playing.
00:08:38.639 --> 00:08:48.799
I mean, you know, and David, David suffers greatly, and this is a tremendous warning, I think, to us about the consequences of sin, like kind of like we've discussed before.
00:08:49.039 --> 00:08:57.200
You know, in the feel-good church mentality, you know, you know, where you can give a you know, give a give some money and get a blessing and all this other stuff.
00:08:57.279 --> 00:09:02.960
I mean, there are consequences for our behavior, and and this is a perfect example of it.
00:09:03.039 --> 00:09:17.200
And Mark, you know, I know like we've talked about, I know you've done a lot of research and you know, read about you know, about this situation, and you know, I I'm really interested to hear your thoughts and Chad's too about about the second part of this story.
00:09:17.919 --> 00:09:36.000
Well, for me, and reading this up until the time that Nathan confronts David and point blank tells him how God feels and what God had said to Nathan to pass along.
00:09:36.720 --> 00:09:54.000
David's still going about his own way, you know, when when he's told that uh Uriah is dead, he says the sword devours one as well as another.
00:09:54.240 --> 00:09:55.840
Just kind of nonchalantly.
00:09:56.159 --> 00:09:57.120
Just you know.
00:09:57.679 --> 00:10:05.200
If I'm not mistaken, it's not just it's not just Uriah that that dies at the enemy walls.
00:10:05.279 --> 00:10:08.159
There were some others that passed away also.
00:10:08.399 --> 00:10:18.159
So you've got more than one person that's passed away as a result of David's David's decision or his plan, so to speak.
00:10:18.480 --> 00:10:42.720
Um so I got to thinking about Nathan, you know, and and his ability to be able to to gut check David and to be able to point blank, you know, tell him the story about the rich man taking the poor man's lamb, and and I think that's when the light switch came on for David.
00:10:43.440 --> 00:10:48.320
But then for Nathan just to turn it right back around and say, you know, you're that man.
00:10:50.000 --> 00:11:01.519
I just don't think, you know, I mean that just kind of showed me where again in the very beginning of the first first series we were talking about, you know, I was talking about where is David's heart?
00:11:01.600 --> 00:11:02.559
You know, where's his head?
00:11:02.639 --> 00:11:03.440
What's he thinking?
00:11:04.320 --> 00:11:21.919
Has idol time gotten a hold of him to to start this this evil journey, this evil process, but but to for Nathan to be able to, I guess, be in a position to go to the king and say, you know, this is you.
00:11:22.799 --> 00:11:24.080
This is all you.
00:11:25.360 --> 00:11:46.480
I think for me in reading this, this was one of the first times where the light switch came on and David felt remorse and he and he felt guilty and he felt like he needed to ask God for forgiveness, or else, you know, no telling what else is gonna happen.
00:11:46.559 --> 00:11:48.559
He's already taken the child.
00:11:49.679 --> 00:11:57.679
Um, you know, and to take a child, in my opinion, it's not easy for God to do.
00:11:58.639 --> 00:11:58.879
No.
00:11:59.279 --> 00:12:01.840
You know, to punish someone else.
00:12:02.080 --> 00:12:02.320
No.
00:12:02.559 --> 00:12:06.080
Um and that's a different subject, different topic in Chad.
00:12:06.159 --> 00:12:21.039
I'd love to hear from you on this because I've got some more I want to talk about, or have some questions I should want to ask in regards to uh God taking their child, Beth that she and David's child.
00:12:21.120 --> 00:12:26.879
But yeah, that's that was a light switch moment for me reading what Nathan had said.
00:12:27.679 --> 00:12:29.120
Yeah, this is a tough one.
00:12:29.200 --> 00:12:53.200
You have to look, you have to you look at this as scripture, and then you have to start really looking inwardly because here we have some a man who did some horrible things, was in sin, and you you use the word nonchalantly what he said, and I I love the word nonchalant because that shows his how how he was in that moment.
00:12:53.440 --> 00:12:55.840
Just um I'm just coasting.
00:12:56.080 --> 00:13:00.639
Um I think when I'm thinking through this, we've been at moments like that.
00:13:00.720 --> 00:13:07.519
I've been at moments like that where I'm like, well, yeah, I may have done this, it's not that bad, whatever, I'm just gonna keep going on my way.
00:13:07.759 --> 00:13:17.840
And we have to remember that sin uh sin is is pretty easily hidden from people, but is never hidden from God.
00:13:18.240 --> 00:13:21.600
God always knows exactly what you've done.
00:13:21.919 --> 00:13:24.480
He doesn't just magically forget your sin.
00:13:24.639 --> 00:13:27.519
It takes the repentance, and it takes real repentance.
00:13:27.679 --> 00:13:32.159
Real repentance is when you finally, like you say, the light bulb moment.
00:13:32.240 --> 00:13:38.480
I love you the that you use that because that is that's the moment that it takes to actually be truly repentant.
00:13:38.799 --> 00:13:42.159
Wow, I actually I did some horrible things.
00:13:42.320 --> 00:13:43.200
This is awful.
00:13:43.360 --> 00:13:45.919
I need repentance, I need to repent.
00:13:46.320 --> 00:13:53.840
And even forgiven sin can leave painful consequences, and that's what we see in this story.
00:13:54.000 --> 00:13:58.480
These consequences are are very harsh consequences.
00:13:58.559 --> 00:14:04.639
Uh and it doesn't matter if you when you sin, it doesn't matter if you get forgiveness, the consequences are still gonna be there.
00:14:04.879 --> 00:14:14.720
So you mentioned um you mentioned when he said uh Nathan says you are the man, and that was the light bulb moment.
00:14:14.960 --> 00:14:19.200
So for me, this is this is kind of what hits me.
00:14:19.360 --> 00:14:28.799
Sometimes we see sin clearly in others, we're judgmental towards others, and you completely miss it in yourself.
00:14:29.039 --> 00:14:36.320
You're so the nonchalant, you're just coasting, you miss it in your uh you miss the sin in your own life.
00:14:36.399 --> 00:14:41.519
What is the um take the whatever the eye?
00:14:41.759 --> 00:14:43.120
Donnie, you probably know what to melt.
00:14:43.440 --> 00:14:45.679
Take the light pole out of your own eye or something.
00:14:46.000 --> 00:14:46.480
You know what I'm saying?
00:14:46.960 --> 00:14:48.159
Take the log out of your eye.
00:14:48.240 --> 00:14:48.399
Yeah.
00:14:48.559 --> 00:14:48.960
Yes.
00:14:49.440 --> 00:14:50.559
Take the log out of your own eye.
00:14:50.639 --> 00:14:52.240
So we exactly.
00:14:52.320 --> 00:14:55.200
So we're judging somebody else, and we we miss in ourselves.
00:14:55.440 --> 00:15:13.919
Um let me ask you, Donnie, and then I'll come back to my thoughts, but why do you think it is easier to see other people's sin um so sometimes we even we're even doing something worse, but it's so easy to just see theirs and judge it.
00:15:14.080 --> 00:15:14.879
You know what I mean?
00:15:15.120 --> 00:15:15.679
Oh, yeah.
00:15:15.919 --> 00:15:18.399
Well, I think it you know, we're human.
00:15:18.879 --> 00:15:21.600
You know, it's easy to judge somebody else, you know.
00:15:21.759 --> 00:15:26.879
You know, and it's hard, you know, Jesus says you be judged, it's you judge others.
00:15:26.960 --> 00:15:28.000
I mean, you know.
00:15:28.720 --> 00:15:32.320
I mean, you know, we we need to we need to be mindful of that.
00:15:32.399 --> 00:15:33.600
And and it is, you're right.
00:15:33.679 --> 00:15:39.279
It's so easy to, you know, it's kind of like it's hard to see well, you know, you can't see yourself unless you're looking in a mirror, right?
00:15:39.440 --> 00:15:41.120
But you can see everybody else.
00:15:41.440 --> 00:15:42.080
Yep, yep.
00:15:42.320 --> 00:15:52.799
So, you know, it's easy for us to see, and like with David, you know, David I mean, there's never there's not a greater man than David in the Bible.
00:15:52.960 --> 00:15:57.440
I mean, he he he you know, as a human being, I mean, David was the man.
00:15:57.840 --> 00:16:11.840
I mean, he he he you know, the story of Goliath and David, you know, he he you know, he he he is a epitome of of what a a a godly follower of God should be.
00:16:13.039 --> 00:16:21.519
But yet he's a human being and we all make mistakes, you know, and I think that's such an empowerful thing.
00:16:21.840 --> 00:16:26.240
But we have to forgive ourselves when we make a mistake.
00:16:26.399 --> 00:16:34.799
If you read further into this story through David's life, God won't joke him when he said that the soul would never leave his life.
00:16:35.039 --> 00:16:40.960
He has one tragic event after another involving his family after after this happened.
00:16:41.039 --> 00:16:45.679
And David dies a broken man in this story.
00:16:45.759 --> 00:16:50.639
And and and if you read it, like if you read the Psalms, he wrote the twenty-third Psalm.
00:16:50.720 --> 00:16:52.320
There's so many beautiful, powerful psalms.
00:16:52.480 --> 00:17:01.120
But there are a lot of songs of deep remorse, regret, and depression that David wrote, and I'm convinced it came from this event.
00:17:01.360 --> 00:17:09.279
I mean, you know, he you know, this thing that happened uh, you know, God forgive him, he forgave, but God forgives us.
00:17:09.440 --> 00:17:20.640
But those scars of what we do, the decisions we make, the things we're involved in, they're they're they're painful, they're real, they they you know, they don't they don't just go away, right?
00:17:20.799 --> 00:17:28.240
You know, and David I can't imagine what it was like for David when he stood there before Nathan.
00:17:28.960 --> 00:17:30.880
And and Nathan, let's take Nathan.
00:17:31.039 --> 00:17:33.680
Nathan is his accountability partner, right?
00:17:33.759 --> 00:17:34.799
And we need that.
00:17:35.039 --> 00:17:43.039
We we need as men and women, as Christian people, we need those accountability partners, those good friends.
00:17:43.119 --> 00:17:51.200
And Mark and I, you know, we have a a good friend group, and I'm, you know, and now Mark and Chad and I feel this bond growing between us.
00:17:51.359 --> 00:18:01.599
I feel like if one of us had a problem with something the other one was doing, or we felt, you know, hey, this isn't good for you, I think we could come to we could come together and talk about it.
00:18:01.759 --> 00:18:03.039
And that's powerful.
00:18:03.359 --> 00:18:08.240
And Nathan in this story, when he comes to David, you know, that's the last thing Nathan wanted to do.
00:18:08.319 --> 00:18:10.319
He did not want it, you know, he didn't want to do that.
00:18:10.400 --> 00:18:11.759
That's his friend.
00:18:12.000 --> 00:18:14.400
And he has to say, you're the man.
00:18:14.480 --> 00:18:18.400
I I just think to myself, let's take that relationship, Nathan and David.
00:18:18.480 --> 00:18:25.440
What do y'all think it was like that day when Nathan had to go deliver this message and David had to hear it?
00:18:26.960 --> 00:18:32.880
I yeah, I can't even imagine to put myself in Nathan's shoes.
00:18:33.039 --> 00:18:35.920
I mean, I'm sure his heart was broken as well.
00:18:36.640 --> 00:18:40.400
Nathan may not have known what was going on until God spoke to him.
00:18:40.640 --> 00:18:41.200
Right.
00:18:42.079 --> 00:18:44.799
And then he's got to go deliver the message.
00:18:45.039 --> 00:18:45.680
Yep.
00:18:46.160 --> 00:18:50.240
And I'm assuming that the story with the lambs came from God, not Nathan.
00:18:50.480 --> 00:18:50.880
That's right.
00:18:51.680 --> 00:18:54.400
Or it was interpreted as such, but it came from God, right?
00:18:54.720 --> 00:18:55.599
That's right.
00:18:56.319 --> 00:19:14.559
So obviously David admired and respected and trusted Nathan on probably m other occasions, and and so I'm sure it was with a tearful eye that Nathan delivered those messages.
00:19:14.720 --> 00:19:39.279
You know, it's while you were talking, Donnie, I wrote I like to take notes as Chad was saying earlier, and not only during the podcast, but in my my studying, and we were talking about judging other people and maybe uh trying to reduce our sin by looking at someone else's sin and going, well, you know, they're a whole lot worse than I.
00:19:40.160 --> 00:19:44.640
But I wrote down it's hard to judge and not be judgmental.
00:19:45.279 --> 00:19:45.680
Exactly.
00:19:46.160 --> 00:19:47.279
Wow, it's powerful.
00:19:47.519 --> 00:19:50.079
It's hard to judge and not be judgmental.
00:19:50.160 --> 00:19:51.440
I mean, where is that fine line?
00:19:51.519 --> 00:19:52.799
Is there a fine line done?
00:19:53.200 --> 00:20:03.039
And then we were talking about wounds, and we're talking about the healing of wounds, and you know, a wound when it happens, it's it hurts.
00:20:03.599 --> 00:20:04.720
It's deep.
00:20:08.480 --> 00:20:16.000
I don't know about you, but at my age, when I when I get wounded physically, the first thing I think about is how long is this gonna take for me to heal?
00:20:17.680 --> 00:20:20.799
At my age, because I don't heal as fast as I used to, right?
00:20:21.759 --> 00:20:37.039
But later on, after that wound has healed, and you know, it doesn't hurt anymore, but I rarely ever forget A, how it happened and and B how it looked and how it hurt.
00:20:37.759 --> 00:20:39.759
I rarely forget those three things.
00:20:40.000 --> 00:20:52.000
And even though the scar is still there and it doesn't hurt anymore, but it's a reminder, you know, of of the wound, and it's a reminder of possibly even a decision that caused that wound.
00:20:52.480 --> 00:20:55.839
So uh but those were the two things that I wrote down.
00:20:55.920 --> 00:20:57.519
But yeah, Nathan had a tough job.
00:20:57.759 --> 00:21:01.039
I mean, he had a tough what do you think, Chad?
00:21:01.119 --> 00:21:06.079
When he had to go to David and talk to him about what God had told him.
00:21:06.720 --> 00:21:12.400
He's uh Yeah, yeah when you have to lay it out all out on the line to your king.
00:21:13.200 --> 00:21:20.000
To a king, uh you've gotta you've gotta have some uh some courage for sure.
00:21:20.160 --> 00:21:21.759
Uh he lays everything out.
00:21:21.920 --> 00:21:25.759
I mean, David's adultery and his murder, his deception.
00:21:25.839 --> 00:21:28.960
I I can't imagine confronting somebody like that.
00:21:29.200 --> 00:21:41.599
Um the thing that really pops out to me about that is you we talked about how uh Mark, you said God was speaking through Nathan, and God told Nathan to do this.
00:21:41.759 --> 00:21:43.680
Nathan, this came from God ultimately.
00:21:43.839 --> 00:21:52.799
All of the all of the the ways to correct sin, all of the repentance, everything it comes from God, and God uses different people.
00:21:52.960 --> 00:21:59.759
It reminded me of when I was um when I was about 16 years old, I got in.
00:22:00.319 --> 00:22:04.480
I got in some trouble hanging out with the wrong people, some of my friends.
00:22:04.720 --> 00:22:09.119
And uh before the podcast started, a little backstory, I was talking to Donnie.
00:22:09.279 --> 00:22:14.720
Mark, you hadn't got on yet, and me and Donnie were talking, and Don Donnie said something to me.
00:22:14.880 --> 00:22:16.240
He said, Hey, Chad, I'm proud of you.
00:22:16.319 --> 00:22:18.559
And I told him, I said, That reminds me of my Peppa.
00:22:18.880 --> 00:22:22.000
My Peppa was a really big, important figure in that time of my life.
00:22:22.160 --> 00:22:22.880
He was still alive.
00:22:23.039 --> 00:22:25.759
He's passed on since, but he was he was still alive.
00:22:25.920 --> 00:22:33.759
He was probably the most important figure for me, father figure, um, someone who loved the Lord.
00:22:33.920 --> 00:22:37.599
And so he was the person in my mind that I respected the most.
00:22:37.920 --> 00:22:43.440
Also the person that if I didn't want to know I was doing something bad, it would be him.
00:22:43.680 --> 00:22:47.599
So anyway, I was I got in trouble and I was hanging out with some people.
00:22:47.759 --> 00:22:52.079
I did something really stupid, and I got in trouble with the police.
00:22:52.319 --> 00:23:01.599
And so the police, I'm a minor, and the police called my mom and said, Hey, you your son was doing this, he's in trouble.
00:23:01.759 --> 00:23:06.240
If you don't want us to take him to jail or wherever we're going to take him, you need to come get him.
00:23:06.400 --> 00:23:07.519
Pick him up right here.
00:23:07.680 --> 00:23:09.680
And so she got that call.
00:23:09.920 --> 00:23:22.000
Well, little to my to my shock, um, my mom shows up and my papa is with her, and my blood drained out of my face.
00:23:22.160 --> 00:23:25.759
I was so, oh my goodness, I cannot believe he is here.
00:23:26.000 --> 00:23:27.680
Had so much respect for him.
00:23:28.079 --> 00:23:35.839
And he sat me down and had this talk with me, and it really was, it reminds me of this story.
00:23:35.920 --> 00:23:44.559
It was that accountability, but it was someone, it came from someone that I did not, never would have anticipated it coming from.
00:23:44.799 --> 00:23:55.440
So I say all that to say God uses people, and sometimes he uses people to stop us in our tracks, and sometimes it's people we don't expect.
00:23:55.599 --> 00:23:59.200
In this story, I think I think the roles might have been switched.
00:23:59.279 --> 00:24:02.559
I think Nathan would have probably felt the blood draining out of his face.
00:24:02.640 --> 00:24:04.880
I can't believe I've I need to I have I've got to do this, though.
00:24:04.960 --> 00:24:07.839
I've got to do this, I've got the conviction, I'm gonna tell David.
00:24:08.000 --> 00:24:13.599
But I cannot imagine how he felt in that moment, thinking, I'm just gonna lay it all out on the line here.
00:24:13.759 --> 00:24:20.960
Um, but I think the thing I can learn from this is hidden sin, uh, the Bible says, be sure your sin will find you out.
00:24:21.119 --> 00:24:23.440
It's gonna find you out one way or the other.
00:24:23.599 --> 00:24:27.839
The Bible promises that hidden sin eventually comes to light.
00:24:28.000 --> 00:24:36.319
You may be able to hide it from your parents, your family, your church, your wife, your husband, uh, friends, definitely on social media.
00:24:36.400 --> 00:24:41.519
We definitely don't put air or dirt of the laundry out on social media, but you cannot hide it from God.
00:24:41.680 --> 00:24:46.720
And God is going to use somebody or something to stop you in your tracks.
00:24:46.880 --> 00:24:56.480
And honestly, we have to, I have to hope that God does because I don't want to see the consequences if I continue in my sin.
00:24:56.720 --> 00:24:58.079
I want to stop that sin.
00:24:58.319 --> 00:24:59.519
I want to get repentance.
00:24:59.599 --> 00:25:01.440
I want to say, Lord, forgive me for this.
00:25:01.680 --> 00:25:03.119
Please forgive me.
00:25:03.359 --> 00:25:07.440
Help me to stop and stop being stupid because I do not want those consequences.
00:25:07.519 --> 00:25:09.680
And I think that's one thing we can learn from this story.
00:25:09.920 --> 00:25:16.000
God's going to use somebody or something, and it's going to shock you, and it's going to stop you in your tracks.
00:25:16.240 --> 00:25:22.559
And whatever stays hidden, uh if as long as it's hidden, it just grows stronger.
00:25:22.640 --> 00:25:34.160
So I'm so thankful for those moments that I had an accountability partner like my papa or my mom, or I went to a Christian school and I had an amazing principal, and he would have these talks with me.
00:25:34.240 --> 00:25:41.680
But I'm so thankful because I I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to stay in some kind of hidden sin that's going to destroy me.
00:25:41.920 --> 00:25:42.960
I want it to stop.
00:25:43.279 --> 00:25:51.839
Well, that's a blessing, Chad, because you know, at at you know, here we are, 40s, 50s, and 60 something year old.
00:25:52.480 --> 00:25:57.279
And at my age, I I don't want to carry any more baggage.
00:25:57.359 --> 00:25:59.119
I don't want to carry sin.
00:25:59.440 --> 00:26:04.559
I don't want that weighing on my heart and and and in my mind.
00:26:04.880 --> 00:26:19.200
And and if we're able to connect with, as Donnie was saying in a in another episode, the youth, or young or old, regardless, but the younger the better.
00:26:20.319 --> 00:26:35.920
And get them in a place where they can can be saved and to let go, get let go of of whatever large or small is going on in their life.
00:26:36.400 --> 00:26:37.279
That's a blessing.
00:26:37.359 --> 00:26:43.039
I mean, you know, that's catching that's that's catching the caterpillar before it becomes a butterfly, you know.
00:26:43.759 --> 00:26:58.880
Um I I want that for in my heart for each and everybody that's listening to this podcast, young or old, but um but especially the young for sure.
00:26:59.279 --> 00:27:10.720
You know, to you know, to that point, uh you know, here again, you know, Chad, I'm really interested, you know, Mark and Chad, but you know, Chad, since you have teenage sons, you know, we talked about that a bit before.
00:27:12.160 --> 00:27:21.839
You know, they're living in this social media world where, you know, when when when Mark and I were younger, when we had a problem, we talked about this a bit on some of the other episodes.
00:27:22.000 --> 00:27:39.279
When we had a problem as a young man, right, you know, we had our parents, our aunts, or uncles, our coaches, our teachers, you know, other adults, men that we knew and and adult women that when we had a problem, or we need to learn how to do something.
00:27:39.440 --> 00:27:44.240
Or if we had a situation that we didn't know what to do, we had to go seek somebody out.
00:27:44.400 --> 00:27:56.000
Even in the business world, when I first went to the business world back in the 1980s, and I worked for several really large companies and they all had very extensive uh training programs.
00:27:56.079 --> 00:28:09.279
They they realized that if their businesses were gonna succeed, then that time uh economics and the economy was a more of a relationship business, and so you know, they had to invest in their people.
00:28:09.359 --> 00:28:23.279
You know, Mark was at Mark, you know, was an auto industry, and you know, if you were gonna if you were you're building loyalty with your customers, you needed quality people who could who could who could serve your customers, you know, to be successful, right?
00:28:23.359 --> 00:28:47.440
You know, Mark and I grew up in that era, you know, and today uh you know these younger people, and I'm not knocking them, I'm just saying this is just the way it is, you know, instead of talking to their peers or people a little older or people who really care about them and love them and want to see them succeed, you know, they're googling things, you know, for for the answer to how to how to handle relationships.
00:28:47.519 --> 00:28:53.839
And I I when I read this, you know, and I think about David and Nathan, you know, David's like I said, David's a king.
00:28:54.240 --> 00:28:58.000
He could just say, hey man, uh call the guards in here.
00:28:58.160 --> 00:28:59.920
Cut his head off, throw him in a ditch.
00:29:00.079 --> 00:29:02.799
I mean, you know, he he he has absolute power.
00:29:02.960 --> 00:29:04.799
He's been proven he'll kill Uriah.
00:29:06.160 --> 00:29:06.400
Right?
00:29:06.720 --> 00:29:11.680
I mean, you know, so Nathan has to it took tremendous courage for him to go do what he did.
00:29:13.200 --> 00:29:15.279
But don't you know they had to be tight.
00:29:16.880 --> 00:29:19.680
Don't you know him and Nathan before this ever happened?
00:29:20.559 --> 00:29:21.359
They are tight.
00:29:21.519 --> 00:29:22.960
David respects Nathan.
00:29:23.599 --> 00:29:26.160
I mean, David walks into the king's presence, right?
00:29:26.240 --> 00:29:29.359
He he ain't got you know, he said, Hey, I'm here to see David.
00:29:29.680 --> 00:29:40.720
And you know, everybody in there would have said, Okay, get David, because this is Nathan, and Nathan's his advisor, his confidant, his closest, one of his closest friends.
00:29:41.039 --> 00:29:43.599
David's gonna want to hear what Nathan has to say.
00:29:43.680 --> 00:29:52.640
And for young people to not have those relationships, I think as as older people, we should be seeking these younger people out.
00:29:52.799 --> 00:29:56.319
We should be trying to make connections every way possible.
00:29:56.480 --> 00:30:01.200
We should we should be telling them we're proud of them when they do something well, right?
00:30:01.279 --> 00:30:05.759
You know, we should be we should be trying to mentor these younger people.
00:30:06.000 --> 00:30:08.720
I don't think they realize what they're missing.
00:30:09.599 --> 00:30:11.200
Chad, what do you think about that?
00:30:11.359 --> 00:30:27.279
Have a you yourself are young, you know, you're quite a bit younger than than I am, you know, and you're uh you know, you you have teenage boys, and you know, my kids are in their thirties, I got grandkids, but how what do you say about that?
00:30:27.440 --> 00:30:30.720
How how could we reach these younger people?
00:30:31.200 --> 00:30:35.279
And I hope our podcast does that love that, hey, we you know we care about you.
00:30:35.599 --> 00:30:42.319
God loves you, He wants a relationship with you, and uh one of the greatest things in life is accountability and connection.
00:30:42.400 --> 00:30:44.400
How how how could we do that, Chad?
00:30:44.480 --> 00:30:47.920
What do you think how could we approach that as men?
00:30:49.200 --> 00:30:50.640
No, that's really good.
00:30:50.960 --> 00:30:56.880
In fact, um let me pull up my the the scripture we were just reading.
00:30:56.960 --> 00:31:08.160
I had uh something came to mind and I need to refresh myself on it, but I'm uh let's see, what is uh Chad, while you're while while you're doing that, can I interject something?
00:31:08.400 --> 00:31:09.119
Yeah, go ahead.
00:31:09.519 --> 00:31:29.359
I kind of liked the way that Nathan bringing all this about to David's attention didn't point blank accuse David of, you know, you did this, you did that, you did this, you did that, you did this.
00:31:29.839 --> 00:31:32.160
He put it into a story form.
00:31:33.519 --> 00:31:50.799
He put he he he brought it about in such a way that obviously the rich man taking the poor man's lamb was was wrong, but but but David reacted to that fiercely.
00:31:51.039 --> 00:31:51.599
Right.
00:31:52.319 --> 00:31:52.960
Fiercely.
00:31:53.359 --> 00:31:59.839
So I think I think you know, by the way that Nathan brought that about, yeah.
00:32:00.000 --> 00:32:20.799
He he wasn't point blank, you know, crucifying David for those things that he did, but he put it into a storyboard, story form that uh I think we talked about it being a light switch or opened David's eyes and it kind of totally centered him back to where he once was.
00:32:21.279 --> 00:32:21.599
Right.
00:32:24.319 --> 00:32:31.359
So the the verse that uh or the the uh chapter that I was thinking of is in 2 Samuel as well.
00:32:31.519 --> 00:32:33.359
It's 13, it's Jonadab.
00:32:33.599 --> 00:32:38.640
So you know Jon Jonadab, the horrible advice he gave.
00:32:38.880 --> 00:32:49.519
So this came to mind when you were talking about kids going and getting advice online from a million different resources who all contradict each other.
00:32:49.680 --> 00:33:12.480
Um, and just for everyone listening, you can go, and we we we may even go into this chapter sometime um uh or and talk more about it, but uh chapter 13 talks about the advice that Jonadab gave, and it in the end of the chapter it talks about how horrible the advice was, and um uh let's see here.
00:33:12.799 --> 00:33:16.799
No, my brother, she she cried, don't be foolish, don't do this to me.
00:33:16.960 --> 00:33:18.000
Such wicked things aren't done.
00:33:18.079 --> 00:33:24.720
So it it it leads up to a horrible um sexual attempt, sin in that.
00:33:24.799 --> 00:33:26.720
And anyway, it's horrible counsel.
00:33:26.960 --> 00:33:29.759
So go read chapter 13, you'll know what I'm talking about.
00:33:29.839 --> 00:33:35.680
I don't want to go dive too deeply into that story, but that is what a lot of this counsel is.
00:33:35.920 --> 00:33:38.720
Um, and there's no reality in it.
00:33:38.880 --> 00:33:44.559
The kids don't have to experience anything except just, oh, I need an answer to this question.
00:33:44.720 --> 00:33:51.200
And they're basically getting about any answer they want so they can pick and choose which answer is correct.
00:33:51.519 --> 00:34:04.480
So what what are we as sinful creatures, as sinful beings, as humans, what are we more likely to do if we say, hey, I want an answer to this very serious issue I have.
00:34:04.720 --> 00:34:08.800
Let me go to Google, let me type it in, and then we see the answers.
00:34:08.960 --> 00:34:10.320
What are we more likely gonna do?
00:34:10.480 --> 00:34:16.239
Pick the answer that is really hard, or pick the answer that says, Yeah, that sounds like it might be easier.
00:34:16.400 --> 00:34:21.039
We're gonna pick the easier answer, and I think that's what's happening a lot with these young people.
00:34:21.199 --> 00:34:26.639
It's it is being it's a modern day um Jonadab.
00:34:26.800 --> 00:34:29.920
It's a modern day horrible counsel for a lot of young people.
00:34:30.079 --> 00:34:43.840
We Donnie, you talked about going uh in the business world, you talked about seeking out wise uh counsel, advice from people who had experience, people that you knew, um, and that's not what's happening here.
00:34:44.079 --> 00:34:50.239
You don't know these people from Adam on the internet, you don't know these social media influencers from anybody.
00:34:50.559 --> 00:34:53.760
And not all advice is wisdom.
00:34:53.920 --> 00:34:57.039
And I think that is where we you have to draw a line.
00:34:57.199 --> 00:35:09.840
If you're a parent, it's very scary because you say our kids are going online and finding people because they have a lot of views, and that doesn't qualify them to anything in my book.
00:35:10.000 --> 00:35:11.840
I don't know, I don't know who these people are.
00:35:12.079 --> 00:35:21.760
Just because they have a a million views uh and they're popular, honestly, I don't trust them a little more because they're popular because of the culture we live in, if I'm being honest.
00:35:22.000 --> 00:35:33.360
And so when you have kids running to these people and watching influencers, and um, that's why they're called influencers, because they're really good at influencing.
00:35:33.599 --> 00:36:01.280
And I've had experience with my with my boys and having to teach hard lessons about um you know watch it watching a YouTube video and starting to listen to these people, and then besides just the the interest or the hobby that they're learning about, they start diving into religion or start diving into God and their thoughts, and then you're that enters your teenager's mind, and they say, Hey, hmm, this sounds a little different than what I've heard.
00:36:01.360 --> 00:36:05.599
Maybe I should start diving into this, and it's it sways you away from truth.
00:36:05.760 --> 00:36:13.599
So, Donnie, to answer your question, it's a really it's a really scary thing, and and we talked about that in the last episode about guarding.
00:36:13.679 --> 00:36:25.360
I I don't think I don't think the excuse of I want to give my kids as much privacy as they can have and they they uh they're their own person, they're independent.
00:36:25.519 --> 00:36:28.159
I think it's a horrible excuse, and I think it can lead now.
00:36:28.320 --> 00:36:29.840
Do I think you can be overbearing?
00:36:29.920 --> 00:36:31.360
Yeah, I think you can be overbearing.
00:36:31.440 --> 00:36:52.960
I think you can do it in a really harsh way, but I think guarding your heart, your home, and your children's heart is probably one of the most important things that you can do because because this this leads down a bad road almost all of the time when kids get on get on there and to try to try to figure life out by online.
00:36:53.360 --> 00:36:55.360
It's a dangerous thing, it's really hard.
00:36:56.480 --> 00:36:59.360
You know, I I'm curious to know what y'all what y'all think about this.
00:36:59.519 --> 00:37:03.679
You know, the you know, one of the Ten Commandments is thou shalt not covet, right?
00:37:04.400 --> 00:37:10.400
You know, David is on the roof and he's looking down on Bathsheba and he covets Uriah's wife.
00:37:10.559 --> 00:37:13.599
And that leads him into all this, right?
00:37:13.679 --> 00:37:23.199
This is like I said, Satan and the demons, man, they were they were right where they wanted to be when they got David into that position.
00:37:23.360 --> 00:37:34.400
There's nothing that Satan wanted more than to than to hurt David because he is the epitome of what God wanted a man to be at that point in his life, right?
00:37:34.719 --> 00:37:36.800
And and Satan's still active today.
00:37:36.960 --> 00:37:52.000
He he's out there, he's trying, he's he is he is conniving and scamming for the minds and souls of of all of us, and particularly the younger people, right, that you know, that that he can you know get his claws into.
00:37:52.400 --> 00:38:00.800
And I and when I think about this story and I think about you know the social media aspect and you know, people put pictures on there.
00:38:01.039 --> 00:38:11.840
You know, I I I don't do a whole lot on social media, but I you know, a lot of my friends and family do, and they, you know, they're they're watching what other people are doing and what they're posting and all, you know, whatever you call it.
00:38:12.000 --> 00:38:15.679
And it's very easy for them to think, well, gosh, look at them, look at their life.
00:38:15.840 --> 00:38:16.719
Their life is perfect.
00:38:16.880 --> 00:38:27.280
Well, all they see is a the one out of ten thousand pictures somebody took and stuck up there, you know, and and it's easy to lead them right down this wrong path.
00:38:27.360 --> 00:38:32.880
And I and I think you know, in talking what we're talking about today, here David was, he had everything.
00:38:33.039 --> 00:38:37.760
Like God said, if you'd if you'd have wanted something else, all you had to do is ask me for it.
00:38:38.400 --> 00:38:49.840
You know, if you if you'd if you'd have needed this or you'd have needed that, I gave you the kingdom, I gave you Judah, the kingdom of Judah, I I I I helped you reunite the kingdom of Judah and Israel.
00:38:49.920 --> 00:38:55.519
I you know, I saved you from Saul when he was hunting you down, trying to take you out.
00:38:55.840 --> 00:38:57.679
All you had to do was ask me.
00:38:59.039 --> 00:39:00.880
But you know, you you did this instead.
00:39:00.960 --> 00:39:06.480
And I and I think about I, you know, as a parent and now a grandparent, there ain't nothing I wouldn't do for my kids, right?
00:39:06.559 --> 00:39:07.519
Or my grandkids.
00:39:07.599 --> 00:39:09.920
I I love doing stuff for them.
00:39:10.159 --> 00:39:23.440
And I understand that they want to do things on their own and they need to go their own way and they need to be their own people, but wise godly counsel is such an incredibly valuable thing to have.
00:39:23.679 --> 00:39:42.239
And I think in our society, with this I call I'd call it the Google mentality or now the AI mentality, instead of coming to people who care about them and love them and want their very best for them, I think our society is influencing them to look away from that.
00:39:42.639 --> 00:39:52.719
I I don't think people are bad or kids are bad, or you know, I I think we're being deceived into something that is not as good for us as what's available.
00:39:52.800 --> 00:39:53.920
What do y'all think about that?
00:39:54.079 --> 00:39:57.280
We're all living in the same ever-changing world.
00:39:57.519 --> 00:39:59.039
What do you think, Mark, Chad?
00:39:59.199 --> 00:40:00.159
What do y'all think about it?
00:40:00.559 --> 00:40:04.239
Yeah, I think for me it just boils down to three things.
00:40:04.880 --> 00:40:07.920
It boils down to what you think, yeah.
00:40:08.159 --> 00:40:10.719
It boils down to how I feel, right?
00:40:11.039 --> 00:40:14.960
And it boils down to how I react or act.
00:40:16.480 --> 00:40:26.480
And you know, the way I think sometimes has been explained as it's a form of seed that's planted in the mind.
00:40:26.559 --> 00:40:39.840
Well, these seeds you're talking about, Donnie, with AI and with Google, and not that I'm bashing either one, but but again, there's seeds that are being planted, not just in our youth's minds, but everybody's minds.
00:40:39.920 --> 00:40:46.800
And if you plant a narrow negative thought, and it won't be long until it grows into fear.
00:40:48.079 --> 00:40:55.039
And you know, and we all know how we've reacted to fear in our lives, it's turmoil.
00:40:55.280 --> 00:40:57.440
It's a major challenge, right?
00:40:57.679 --> 00:40:58.239
Right.
00:40:58.559 --> 00:41:03.519
And so with our emotions, the you know, that's energy that we carry with us every day.
00:41:03.760 --> 00:41:06.880
And decisions are made sometimes based on fear.
00:41:07.119 --> 00:41:07.760
Oh, yeah.
00:41:08.000 --> 00:41:13.360
You know, um you lead by example, or you lead, or you motivate with fear.
00:41:13.599 --> 00:41:14.159
We've heard that.
00:41:14.239 --> 00:41:21.519
We've had bosses possibly in the past that motivated with fear, you know, you do this or else, or you're fired, or you're out of here.
00:41:21.679 --> 00:41:26.880
Well, that was really their problem, but it carried on over into the lives of other people.
00:41:27.119 --> 00:41:27.599
Right.
00:41:28.000 --> 00:41:39.840
So I think when you train yourself to think you know more clearly and you feel more helpfully and you ra react more conscientiously, your inner world will become more stable.
00:41:41.039 --> 00:41:49.599
And when your inner world becomes stable, then your outer world becomes more clear, less blurry, less frightening.
00:41:49.760 --> 00:41:53.840
People can can maybe better relate to you.
00:41:54.000 --> 00:42:04.400
I mean, I've even doing this podcast, I've had people that have come up to me and said, you know, I've really enjoyed the podcast and gotten a lot out of it.
00:42:04.719 --> 00:42:04.960
Yeah.
00:42:05.599 --> 00:42:18.079
And and that's a blessing, and it makes me feel like, you know, not only am I preaching God's word, but I'm also doing, you know, walking the walk and trying to talk the talk, or vice versa.
00:42:18.239 --> 00:42:22.000
I mean, doing what God's will is for me.
00:42:22.159 --> 00:42:38.880
And um so but I I think it boils down to how you think, how you feel, and how you react, and there's there's a lot of other self-help type information out there that can get you to those places.
00:42:39.280 --> 00:42:42.960
But ultimately, God wants us to be happy and healthy.
00:42:43.119 --> 00:42:46.159
He loves us, he wants nothing but the best for us.
00:42:46.719 --> 00:42:47.119
That's right.
00:42:47.679 --> 00:42:51.840
And he'll forgive us even when we do mess up.
00:42:52.079 --> 00:42:52.719
Yep.
00:42:54.719 --> 00:42:55.360
Yeah, I agree.
00:42:55.519 --> 00:42:56.800
I agree a hundred percent.
00:42:56.960 --> 00:43:05.519
I think the the key is being around people who will challenge you.
00:43:05.679 --> 00:43:12.800
And I think that's hard because you are not um that doesn't happen by accident.
00:43:13.199 --> 00:43:18.480
You you might happen to have a relationship with somebody at some point, and that's a great relationship.
00:43:18.559 --> 00:43:19.119
That's good.
00:43:19.280 --> 00:43:35.119
But if you are being honest with yourself, you have to pursue um, you have to pursue being around other godly men so that you strengthen each other and you encourage each other and you edify each other.
00:43:35.360 --> 00:43:41.760
Um, and I think that's one reason that I love doing this podcast because this can be one of those tools and resources.
00:43:42.000 --> 00:43:51.119
If somebody says, I don't have anybody, well, come on, listen to this podcast, find other things like this, find a Bible study at church.
00:43:51.360 --> 00:43:58.800
Uh you but you have to you have to find accountability, and that doesn't happen by accident.
00:43:58.960 --> 00:43:59.760
You have to purposefully.
00:44:00.480 --> 00:44:04.880
Say, I want some accountability in my life, how am I going to get that?
00:44:05.039 --> 00:44:10.559
For me, this podcast and joining Donnie and Mark, that's one of the the keys for me.
00:44:10.719 --> 00:44:14.559
Like I I see this as my people around me.
00:44:14.719 --> 00:44:19.760
Um and we strengthen each other and we help each other and we encourage each other.
00:44:19.840 --> 00:44:26.079
And so if if you are a man, if you're a woman, if you're a teenager, you've got to find that accountability.
00:44:26.239 --> 00:44:28.480
And I that's one of the things we learned in the story.
00:44:29.119 --> 00:44:33.679
We talked about the accountability partner and how he told him, he told David, he said, This is what you're doing.
00:44:33.840 --> 00:44:34.639
And that's hard.
00:44:34.719 --> 00:44:37.760
That is hard to find a friend, honestly.
00:44:38.000 --> 00:44:41.760
I can count, and I'm sure you guys can probably say the same thing.
00:44:41.920 --> 00:44:49.119
It is, you only get a few of those in life who are such good friends that they're willing to tell you when you're wrong.
00:44:49.280 --> 00:44:58.639
They don't just sugarcoat it, they don't just say, Oh, it's okay, but they say, Listen, this isn't right, or you need to, you're not doing this right, and they're they're actually in accountability.
00:44:58.719 --> 00:45:08.400
So that for me, that is a huge um lesson in all in this podcast, last that last episode, this episode, and what we're just talking about.
00:45:08.559 --> 00:45:11.920
We've got to get around like-minded men.
00:45:12.159 --> 00:45:19.840
Um you call somebody, text somebody, grab breakfast, but find somebody who can keep you accountable and something that can keep you accountable.
00:45:20.159 --> 00:45:31.519
And another thing is we were talking about just a second ago, the whole social media aspect, the whole Google aspect, and then you guys went into what we're talking about now.
00:45:31.760 --> 00:45:38.480
Um we've got to step up as men, and we've talked about this before on the podcast.
00:45:38.800 --> 00:45:55.519
We've got to step up as men, and as we get older and we become and we see ourselves more as a leader to whether it's you're you're leading a church group, you're leading your children, you're leading your family, whatever whoever you're leading, you've got to see yourself more as a mentor.
00:45:55.679 --> 00:46:06.239
And instead of just saying, Look, look at what I'm doing, try to model this, you find opportunities to mentor somebody because it goes both ways.
00:46:06.480 --> 00:46:13.280
For me, I want people in my life that are doing that to me, but I also know that God has put me here for a reason.
00:46:13.440 --> 00:46:22.079
And if I see somebody out there struggling, or like on this podcast, if we have somebody that messages us and say, hey, I'm struggling in this, we need to be mentors to them.
00:46:22.239 --> 00:46:28.559
We need to actionably take time and offer them advice and say, How can I help you?
00:46:28.800 --> 00:46:30.480
How can I put my arms around you?
00:46:30.639 --> 00:46:32.639
How can I hold you up?
00:46:32.800 --> 00:46:48.320
Um, because if we if we don't disciple people, and I'm talking to every person that is listening to my voice right now, if you don't use what God's given you and disciple someone, there is going to be somebody out there that will disciple them, and they might not be put there by God.
00:46:48.559 --> 00:46:54.159
They might be put there by the internet or by Google or by some enemy of God.
00:46:54.320 --> 00:47:08.000
And so, culture for sure, this culture, if you don't believe that we are we are in a in a time where the devil is fighting tooth and nail, this culture will absolutely train your children for you if you don't train them.
00:47:08.159 --> 00:47:16.239
This culture will absolutely train a middle-aged man who's going through problems in a second, how to ruin his life.
00:47:16.400 --> 00:47:21.280
This culture will absolutely train a retiree who doesn't know how to spend his time.
00:47:21.519 --> 00:47:22.000
It will.
00:47:22.159 --> 00:47:24.880
And so we've got to wrap our arms around each other.
00:47:25.039 --> 00:47:29.679
And uh that's that's encouragement for you out there and encouragement for me too.
00:47:29.840 --> 00:47:43.119
I I get a lot out of this, and I'm I'm hoping that our listeners uh are jotting this stuff down, and hopefully they're getting this out, they're getting the same stuff out, and they're gonna reach their arms around somebody and they're gonna l reach out for help if they need an accountability partner.
00:47:43.199 --> 00:47:44.159
So this is good.
00:47:46.559 --> 00:47:48.320
James 4, 17.
00:47:48.880 --> 00:47:51.199
I think I mentioned it in another podcast.
00:47:51.280 --> 00:47:55.760
I mean, it's it's you know this came to me today.
00:47:58.159 --> 00:48:07.679
Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it to him is a sin.
00:48:09.280 --> 00:48:22.000
So if I see somebody hurting, or if I see somebody that needs help and and I recognize that and I don't assist, then I've let God down.
00:48:22.880 --> 00:48:28.400
I've let myself down, I've let God down, I've let the person down that that could possibly use the help.
00:48:29.360 --> 00:48:32.079
That's that's my verse for today.
00:48:32.559 --> 00:48:34.559
And it's a heavy verse.
00:48:35.599 --> 00:48:44.639
It's not that many words, but it's like if you know how to do good and you don't do it, then that's a sin in God's eyes.
00:48:45.440 --> 00:48:46.079
That's good.
00:48:46.400 --> 00:48:54.159
Because he you think about how how long have you gone thinking that well, sin is when I'm doing something bad and I purposefully go do something bad.
00:48:54.400 --> 00:48:55.039
No, no, no.
00:48:55.599 --> 00:49:00.559
It's when you know that you could do better or you could do something good and you don't do that.
00:49:00.800 --> 00:49:01.760
That's a sin.
00:49:02.559 --> 00:49:03.119
Yeah.
00:49:04.480 --> 00:49:04.800
That's good.
00:49:05.519 --> 00:49:05.760
Yeah.
00:49:06.320 --> 00:49:11.840
And if David, if David is subject to sin, right.
00:49:12.159 --> 00:49:14.800
But God forgave him, he loved him anyway.
00:49:15.440 --> 00:49:28.159
You know, all throughout the New Testament is we're really getting you know, about to go into that, you know, and read, you know, about the angel appearing to Mary, and you know, all these different amazing things that are gonna happen over and over again.
00:49:28.320 --> 00:49:30.800
Jesus is referred to as the son of David.
00:49:31.920 --> 00:49:33.039
The son of David, right?
00:49:33.119 --> 00:49:34.320
So God didn't give up on him.
00:49:34.480 --> 00:49:38.800
And we shouldn't give up on ourselves when we make mistakes, and we shouldn't judge nobody.
00:49:40.159 --> 00:49:41.920
We shouldn't judge nobody.
00:49:43.039 --> 00:49:44.320
Absolutely.
00:49:44.880 --> 00:49:54.320
Well, we're gonna we ended last episode with um something I've never done before, but I started talking about it and I thought about it as as Donnie was reading scripture this time.
00:49:54.480 --> 00:49:59.679
We talked about these questions that you can write down, and Mark said, Hey, I I'm doing it.
00:49:59.760 --> 00:50:01.039
And then I said, I'm doing it.
00:50:01.199 --> 00:50:03.199
Donnie, he's he's jotting stuff down.
00:50:03.280 --> 00:50:05.599
We're we're doing it, we're we're wanting to grow.
00:50:05.760 --> 00:50:11.840
So these personal uh personal application questions, how can you apply this stuff to your life?
00:50:12.000 --> 00:50:18.400
I want you to think through this episode and think, what did I learn?
00:50:18.559 --> 00:50:27.199
Uh Mark just mentioned uh an a great scripture uh for him that knows to do good and doeth it not, to him, it is sin.
00:50:27.519 --> 00:50:34.239
Write the scriptures down, these little things that convict you, or even if they don't convict you, and you say, you know what?
00:50:34.480 --> 00:50:35.199
That's good.
00:50:35.280 --> 00:50:36.320
That's something I could use.
00:50:36.480 --> 00:50:37.199
Write it down.
00:50:37.360 --> 00:50:44.079
So ask yourselves now at the end of the episode, before the episode goes up, goes off, did I do that today?
00:50:44.239 --> 00:50:47.679
Uh is there uh is there a hidden sin in my life?
00:50:47.840 --> 00:50:49.199
We talked about that last time.
00:50:49.280 --> 00:50:51.119
Is there something I need to bring to light?
00:50:51.360 --> 00:50:57.280
Uh Mark and Donnie both mentioned, is there something that I know that I could be doing or somebody I know I could be helping?
00:50:57.519 --> 00:51:00.559
Write their name down, pray for them, reach out to them.
00:51:00.719 --> 00:51:04.079
Uh, are you surrounding yourself with wise voices?
00:51:04.320 --> 00:51:06.880
Are you surrounding yourself with accountability partners?
00:51:06.960 --> 00:51:08.559
Well, no, I'm not really.
00:51:08.800 --> 00:51:09.760
Start doing that.
00:51:09.920 --> 00:51:11.519
This stuff is life-changing.
00:51:11.599 --> 00:51:13.280
This comes right out of the Bible.
00:51:13.440 --> 00:51:14.320
This is scripture.
00:51:14.480 --> 00:51:15.280
This is God's word.
00:51:15.519 --> 00:51:18.320
It is life-changing stuff.
00:51:18.559 --> 00:51:22.960
Um, is there a pain or a bitterness because of something you have in your past?
00:51:23.199 --> 00:51:29.840
Donnie and Mark both talked about people's past and how they carry, they carry weight from things.
00:51:29.920 --> 00:51:33.519
And we talked about seeds, good seeds, bad seeds.
00:51:33.760 --> 00:51:40.880
Think through all this stuff, write it down, and let's apply it to our lives together as we grow on this podcast.
00:51:41.039 --> 00:51:42.559
This is going to be an amazing journey.
00:51:42.639 --> 00:51:46.719
I'm so excited about the things that we are going to have coming up.
00:51:46.880 --> 00:51:56.719
Um, and listen, we are not trying we are not out here trying to uh become celebrities or get famous or uh do anything with money.
00:51:56.880 --> 00:51:58.400
What we're trying to do is help you.
00:51:58.480 --> 00:52:04.000
So if we are if we are not helping you, then we're not doing what God's called us to do.
00:52:04.079 --> 00:52:05.760
So we want this to help you.
00:52:05.920 --> 00:52:08.400
So if you need to reach out to us, reach out to us.
00:52:08.480 --> 00:52:10.880
If you need to write things down, write things down.
00:52:11.039 --> 00:52:18.079
And as we grow, Donnie, Mark, we've all talked about putting some resources on our website, free resources.
00:52:18.239 --> 00:52:20.000
People can go and they can download things.
00:52:20.159 --> 00:52:27.280
Maybe we'll have some devotionals, maybe we'll have uh some scripture studies, but we're gonna start adding stuff to our website.
00:52:27.440 --> 00:52:29.360
And we're gonna put in the work.
00:52:29.599 --> 00:52:36.719
We want you to benefit and your life to benefit, and your spiritual life and your walk with Christ to benefit.
00:52:36.880 --> 00:52:38.880
So please take advantage of that.
00:52:39.039 --> 00:52:41.599
Uh guys, do you have anything else to add?
00:52:41.920 --> 00:52:54.639
Well, I just want to add that one of our speakers, Donnie Prince, has written 10 or 12 books, so we certainly ought to be able to put those references on the site and for those that want access to that.
00:52:54.800 --> 00:52:58.239
I've read them and uh they're awesome.
00:52:58.480 --> 00:52:59.199
Well, thank you.
00:52:59.440 --> 00:53:00.320
Yeah, I appreciate that.
00:53:00.480 --> 00:53:01.840
I hope they'll help people.
00:53:02.079 --> 00:53:10.719
Like Chad was saying, you know, we're we're thankful to be here, and we just want to do what we can to help others grow in their faith.
00:53:11.039 --> 00:53:11.440
Amen.
00:53:11.920 --> 00:53:12.480
Amen.
00:53:12.639 --> 00:53:18.320
So we will we will add this stuff, and as soon as we do, you will hear it in episode, and you can go to the website.
00:53:18.480 --> 00:53:22.159
And if you don't, we we record these episodes well in advance.
00:53:22.320 --> 00:53:28.960
So if if you check at check it back at the website every few weeks, and we'll have some changes and updates and we'll add some things.
00:53:29.039 --> 00:53:33.519
But we want to encourage you and we love all of you, and we pray for you.
00:53:33.679 --> 00:53:37.280
And uh with that, I think Donnie, you want to pray us out?
00:53:37.599 --> 00:53:38.960
Sure, that'd be fun.
00:53:39.440 --> 00:53:44.400
Dear Lord, we thank you so much for the opportunity to be here and to be a part of this.
00:53:44.480 --> 00:54:05.920
And Lord, I thank you for marking Chad and you know just being able to be a part of this podcast, and I pray that as we read your word and discuss it, that it will be an encouragement to others to do the same, and that and that they may grow in their faith and come to know you and your son Jesus Christ in a more intimate and personal way.
00:54:06.079 --> 00:54:08.639
And we ask these things in Jesus' name.
00:54:10.159 --> 00:54:10.800
Amen.
00:54:13.760 --> 00:54:19.920
