Krait Critical Minerals Corp CEO Oscar Mendoza joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company's expanding US antimony portfolio, its recent acquisition of an antimony asset in Humboldt County, Nevada, and its strategy of acquiring historically producing critical mineral properties across North America.
Mendoza explained that Krait Critical Minerals was established to pursue opportunities in commodities such as antimony and tungsten, which he believes have received insufficient investment and attention in Western markets despite their growing strategic importance. The company is pursuing an acquisition-led business model focused on identifying and securing assets with established mining histories and potential for further exploration and development.
The latest Nevada acquisition builds on Krait's earlier acquisition of an antimony property in Washington State, completed in September. Together, the two assets expand the company's exposure to a mineral that has attracted increasing attention because of its industrial applications and role in critical supply chains.
Mendoza emphasized that antimony is becoming more than a conventional industrial commodity, particularly as governments and industries focus on securing supplies of materials important to defence and advanced manufacturing.
Both the Washington State and Nevada properties have historical production records, which Mendoza believes provide useful starting points for assessing their geological potential. Historical mining activity can offer information about mineralization and previous operations, although additional sampling, testing and exploration are needed to determine the characteristics and commercial potential of any remaining resources.
At the Washington property, the company is examining historical assay results that indicated antimony grades of approximately 14%. Mendoza said the asset is located about 280 miles from a US antimony smelter, a factor the company is considering as it evaluates the property's potential.
Krait is conducting additional sampling and testing to better understand the material's composition and processing characteristics. The work includes approximately 100 assays, with particular attention to sulphur, arsenic and mercury levels. These elements are important considerations in evaluating the material and determining potential processing requirements.
The Nevada acquisition offers a different opportunity, with Krait concentrating on evaluating the property's geological potential and identifying possible targets for future drilling. Mendoza discussed the importance of reviewing historical geological information and using it to guide additional exploration, helping the company determine where further technical work may be most useful.
