Roberto Con Queso: Hey, you know, we're doing we're doing swell, you know, as good as we can.
Micaiah: as good as we can. And sometimes, as a wise man once told me, sometimes that's all you can do. as I said, this is mostly college football. So we haven't talked about things outside of college football in a few weeks. So I'm gonna bring this up here. I had this thought last night. In watching TV, a commercial comes on, and it is a celebrity it was like a s a celebrity game show. W what's the trivia one with the four little like the red, the yellow, the blue? What what's that called? Yes, it was celebrity
Roberto Con Queso: Like trivial pursuit? Okay.
Micaiah: trivial pursuit. Why why do we have celebrity game shows? I don't need them.
Roberto Con Queso: We don't need them, but they need the money, so
Micaiah: You think you think they're paying for that? They're paying for the celebrity. Come and do that. Like that I think that's a
Roberto Con Queso: I would imagine.
Micaiah: that's a bad business model, I would think. But I I don't know
Roberto Con Queso: Well, I guess the assumption is if you pay big names to get on the show, it's gonna draw people to be like, let's see
Micaiah: Sure.
Roberto Con Queso: how smart these celebrities really are.
Micaiah: Yeah. Are you a big game show guy at all? Or not really? Okay.
Roberto Con Queso: it depends on the game show. Like it's it's gotta be the right one. It's gotta catch me at work. So when it comes down to it.
Micaiah: It's gotta be on at work exclusively because at home I got no time for that. yeah. I
Roberto Con Queso: Pretty much. Pretty much.
Micaiah: I I like I like trivia, Jeopardy. I'm not a big wheel of fortune guy. My I just like the whole all the puzzle can almost be completed. I cannot get that. So I'm a big Jeopardy guy, not a wheel guy. My wife is the opp opposite. She likes wheel, not Jeopardy. I don't need Celebrity Jeopardy. However, the answers are easier. I don't know if anyone has noticed that. It are I wonder if puzzle or if celebrity wheel of fortune puzzles are easier than regular Wheel of Fortune. Okay, you wanna say yes
Roberto Con Queso: I want to say yes, because celebrities, if there's if a there's anything we know, celebrities are not smart.
Micaiah: Nope. They're not. They're just there for their pretty facey, for their pretty faces and sometimes other body parts. All right. We will jump back into the college football landscape here. And I'm gonna start off with some perspective because this is gonna roll right into our first topic, which is what's wrong with Michigan, Penn State, and Colorado. Now, what I'm about to read is only relaying to the First two and not the last, but we are gonna get into all three. This is from the esteemed Dr. Kevin Kern, big fan of the podcast, very smart man, and a contributor in the comment section. So if anyone sees him in the comment section, go ahead and give his comments a like because it tends to be very smart. so I asked him for some stuff, I gave him a topic, and here's what he replied back to me. For all the fans. The question is, what is wrong with Michigan and Penn State? And I'm thinking the and I'm I'm gonna start over because that was just real bad. Okay? All right. All right. All right.
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, yeah. Hey, you got it. You got this.
Micaiah: Take two. If the question is, what is wrong with Michigan and Penn State? I'm thinking the answer from a historical pet perspective is nothing new. As I've heard Captain Boring say on multiple occasions, you never want to be the guy who follows the guy. Who here, for example, has heard of Tad Wideman, Hunk Anderson, and Ray Perkins. You ever heard of those people?
Roberto Con Queso: but from the sounds of their names I kinda wish I did.
Micaiah: I kinda wish I did. the last one, Ray Perkins I have only today, though, in listening to another another college football podcast. Tad Wideman took over for Feeling Yoast at Michigan and only lasted two seasons. Hunk Anderson took over for the Sainted Newt Rockney at Notre Dame. He wanna he won some national titles there and lasted three seasons. Ray Perkins This is where I heard of it, took over from the legendary Bear Bryant at Alabama, going four seasons. None even came close to this success of the guy that preceded them. Truth is, even the most successful teams usually have a p period in the wilderness after an unusually successful coach leaves. University of Michigan had most successful team. Has the most successful team of all time, wins-wise, but still had bad stretches in the 1920s, 30s, 1950s, 60s, and most of this decade. Yes, there are certainly exceptions. For example, University of Michigan had fairly good luck with molar and carr after Shambekler, but these are exceptions, not the rule. If there is a difference between the past and now, it's that people, fan bases, The Board of Trustees donors can express their frustration and short fuses broadly on social media, and that money talks even more now than it used to. None of these change changes, none of this changes the historical fact that the guy following the guy are unlikely to live up to expectations. As frustrating as it may be, it is unrealistic to expect otherwise. So that is definitely the case in the co in Penn State, right? James Franklin was the guy. Historically, after Joe Paul left, Penn State was not good. And then Franklin comes along, and the joke it and the joke was he's 10 and 2, but he can never beat the top teams. 10 and 2, 10 and 2, 10 and 2. And now in comes Matt Campbell, and they look like After a three bad three-game stretch got Franklin fired, we are now on a bad three-game stretch, potentially at Penn State of a brand new coach. And it looks like they can't play offense or defense. Harbaugh was the guy. You had Sharon Moore. Scandals there. Everyone knows that situation. In comes Kyle Winningham. And Michigan. Has not played worse offense for 12 years, last time under my hit most hated Michigan coach of all time, Brady Hope. was there in two thousand and fourteen. What is going on with both of these programs? Where do you want to start with this topic? You you just go ahead and talk.
Roberto Con Queso: so I guess well we'll go with the easy target and that is Michigan. Cause I think Penn State's issue is a little more Not complicated, but I think theirs is easier to correct.
Micaiah: Okay.
Roberto Con Queso: so Michigan's problem is A Bryce Underwood. That's easy, right? We see we've seen him play multiple games where it looks like he's getting better, but then he follows it up with bad things. Yes.
Micaiah: A clunker, yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: mul well we can go with like multiple clunkers if we're being honest.
Micaiah: Yeah, mm-hmm.
Roberto Con Queso: Could Bryce be good at another program with the right coaching and the right system? Yeah, more than likely. We've seen it with Joe Milton. Joe Milton was
Micaiah: Yeah, okay.
Roberto Con Queso: at Michigan, never really panned out for Michigan, went to Tennessee, wasn't great at Tennessee, but But if he was at Tennessee from the start, maybe he was something that could have been fairly good.
Micaiah: Yeah, backup quarterback in the NFL right now. Yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: Right. now is is it is it the system? Is it a combination of the players that are on the field now and the system? I'm gonna I'm gonna say it's a combination. Just because we always look at the first year with a new head coach, it's always the it's always the iffiest because you don't know what we're going to get. You know, we're you have big twelve coaches coming to the big ten, which Also deals with Penn State. And the big Big 12 football is dramatically different than Big Ten football. It I'm sure anyone on this earth can agree with that. The same way Big Ten and SEC is a little bit different. Now you do have some melding with Indiana and Ohio State who are kind of mimicking how the SEC plays. But Big Ten is never or Michigan has never been an SEC type. Scheme, it's never wanted to get away from that. It's always wanted to be we're just gonna run the ball between the tackles 100, 200, 500 times, whatever it takes to get down the field. Big 12, we're gonna run the ball inside, outside, we're gonna throw the ball a little, quarterback's gonna run a little. It's a pretty west coasty kind of offense. So when you take that and then you bring it into a program like Michigan, who does not Do well what change if there's one thing that we know.
Micaiah: Yeah, yep.
Roberto Con Queso: and you also have recruiting classes that were built around a different type of offensive scheme. It's not really going to look pretty. And it's I think it's a combination of being forced. I think that scheme is trying to be forced and it's just not working with the team. So do you change the scheme? Do you change the players? Obviously changing the players is easy because you got players coming in, coming out, you can change it all the time. Changing schemes a little harder because a lot a lot of time that's all those coaches know. so unless you're
Micaiah: Yeah. Yeah, it's ingrained in them.
Roberto Con Queso: unless you're gonna just buy million dollars worth of coaches compared to just saying, Hey, we're gonna change a couple hundred grand here, hundred grand there, and it kinda is what it is when we roll with the dice. it's gonna be a growing process for Michigan. I think this is gonna be like a two, three year thing for Michigan, which is unfortunate and is something that is very hard to do in college football anymore. I think we're gonna start and let's not forget Alabama, who now you're starting to see Debors guys kind of work their way in and Debors scheme that he likes to run and it's starting to get better. There's no, well these are Saban's guys. Like that's done with Saban's been gone for a hot minute and his schemes and plays and everything. So Michigan's got problems and it's gonna take a couple years to fix. Good. Let me hear.
Micaiah: I w what I was gonna say about Michigan, you
Roberto Con Queso: Feed me.
Micaiah: you you touched on a lot of good stuff there, and I hope really everyone was listening to what you said. Cause what I was hoping for is and what we were told in the offseason by Kyle Whittingham was it's nice to have an adult in the room, right? So the expectation for all Michigan fans, including myself, and including you, I do believe, is that. The only thing that was holding this team back was not talent, was not talent or preparation or anything like that. It was scheme because the adult in the room from the previous administration that was there was focused on other things. So now, if you just bring an adult into the room that has good scheme, everything will blossom and it will click right away. And what's so disheartening to me as A University of Michigan fan is they're just that's just not the case. And I understand that you need maybe two, three years to get your guys in. And I know that Kyle Winningham said that this is, you know, he wasn't ready to retire from Utah. Then, you know, he's not here for a one-year deal, you know, holdover coach. But he's also not the most young guy in the world. He's got a five-year contract. So if we're two, three years and we're only getting nine and three, eight and four. At that time, that's not gonna cut it for me. And so now we're gonna be starting over again, or maybe we keep them all five years and then you know it doesn't go well, and then we're starting over again. It it it's very disheartening because we got to the mountaintop. And I and I said forever, if you can just make the playoff, it'll help you so much with recruiting because you will be relevant. We got to the mountaintop, we recruited. The recruits started coming in, and now it's like we're taking a giant step back. And there's way too much talent offensively at every single position. Quarterback is beyond talented. Wide receivers are very talented. Offensive line was very productive, even without a passing game last year. It's almost all the same guys. Running backs are beyond talented. And we have worse stats than we did in 2014 under Brady Hoke. Yeah. Something's gotta fix this year because I can't Not that, especially if Bryce Underwood is gonna continue to start. I I can't continue to watch this team just aim an AK-47 right at their foot and just pull the trigger for 60 minutes. The defense is championship-level defense. I think the defense has an argument to be the bet to say they're the best in the country. But they're
Roberto Con Queso: If they d if they suffer penalties.
Micaiah: if they s if they stop the penalties and if their offense could stay on the field for longer than five seconds at a time.
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Well, and I when it comes back to the coach, I think obviously at the beginning of the season we were like, okay, we got a winning coach. He knows how to win. You know, we'd seen Utah be good. And then I remember we also had the conversation, we were like, okay, we know Whittingham's not the long term guy. He's gonna be there a couple years. He brought his guys with him. I think the assumption was Jason Beck. Was going to ultimately succeed him and kind of work his way as the head coach and they're getting all of their things in, which you know, if that's the case, good on them for do for being able to do that. but I think it's a The changes that they want to make are honestly culture changes for Michigan. Like you're we're we're gonna sit here and go, well, the culture's never gonna change. But for their types of offenses to work at Michigan, it needs to also be a culture change. Because the culture change the culture for Michigan is big bruiser between the tackle, football, essentially Big Ten football.
Micaiah: Right. Sure.
Roberto Con Queso: You know, the the old Wisconsin's old Michigan. older Penn State kind of runs, you know. So and it's it's a culture change and another thing that Michigan is generally not good at doing, which is changing. Which Right. You know, and
Micaiah: Yeah. They have the whole Michigan man thing, right? Right.
Roberto Con Queso: you you can die on those hills. That's fine. But you gotta be willing to die on that heel to only win a national championship once every twenty some years, if that's the course you wanna take. Because it's gonna take you that long to get a guy in there that's gonna look for certain things a Michigan way, and you know, you have to do that whole Philadelphia seventy six or trust the process kind of deal. You know, you you have to be willing to you have to
Micaiah: Right, right, yeah, yeah. It long term plan, sure.
Roberto Con Queso: be willing to be bad for twenty five to be good for one. Which it I'm not really down for, you know, am I pumped that we won one national championship? Whether everyone wants to go and say there's an asterisk on or not, I don't really care because an asterisk is an asterisk and there's an asterisk next to my weight, and I don't really care about that either. So it is what it is, baby.
Micaiah: Ha ha ha
Roberto Con Queso: you know, it's it kinda Michigan's gonna wan they're they're gonna wanna change fast. I'm not worried about, you know, tight ends sending text messages saying they're not they're not happy. That's
Micaiah: Who whoever leaked that though? Out of that friend group. Cause he even said in the text message,
Roberto Con Queso: a hundred percent.
Micaiah: if this gets out, yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. as a fan, I'm not worried about that because that's that's stuff that gets taken care of in the locker
Micaiah: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: room. So it's not it's not like, my god, this is such a big story. every college has this. It it's
Micaiah: I I actually don't I don't have a like I'm not calling for Whittingham to be fired, right? That I'm calling for Bryce Underwood to be sat down because I think that the game right now, he's not seen the game. And I'm calling for Jason Beck to either change how he does things or put people in the game that will, even if they are worse athletes and will give you a diff disadvantage hype. Weight, strength, whatever wise, that will do what he needs to do. Because I need to see improvement. Because right now we're scoring like 13 points a game. It's awful. It's awful. So it I need an identity and we need to. I would I would have liked to go back today. I again, I just got too busy. To see, like when we ran inside zone, I feel like that's our most successful run play. And we're just not doing it. As you said, we're trying to do more east-west finesse runs. And Michigan's more set up for downhill vertical runs.
Roberto Con Queso: Right. Yeah, and that's one, you know, that's we've watched this multiple times and I've texted you and Simeon both about, you know, just once sometimes when we're not doing well up the middle, if we would just run the ball outside. But, you know, it's a whole you know, it's it's why the coaches get paid big bucks. It's why I don't get paid anything to sit at home and watch it on
Micaiah: Yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: TV.
Micaiah: Yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: in four squares. so but moving on from Michigan because I'm
Micaiah: Yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: sure people are thrilled to listen to us talk about Michigan all the time. Penn State is I think an easier fix because
Micaiah: Okay.
Roberto Con Queso: your coach is there and your players are already there. And Penn State has no culture. As as much of a joke as that sounds, Penn State really doesn't.
Micaiah: Sure.
Roberto Con Queso: Because the last three years of Franklin being there, the offense has been so different. You know, I would I
Micaiah: Sure, right.
Roberto Con Queso: your your defense has had more culture than what your offense. Your cult your defense has always been the backbone of Penn State. Very stout. You might be able to move 15 to 20, but you're not getting you know, you're you're just not going to be putting big points up on Penn State unless You know, it's Ohio State and those are different scenarios where it's
Micaiah: Yeah, right.
Roberto Con Queso: a lot better talented wide receivers against not as talented corners. Where this year the defense is just falling apart and the offense is just not producing. And I think it's almost the same as what Michigan has, where the players that were there are set up for one thing. his player his players are coming in which are set up for another thing and it's kind of like not melding well. I think the losses, I don't think Penn State really has going to have many more losses from here. I think they beat USC. Just it's, you know, take it as a hot take as you want to take it. But
Micaiah: Yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: I think those are the kind of losses for a team like Penn State that has Everything that they really do need it's gonna bring them together more. do I think their coaches are better than Michigan's? Not really. I think they're kind of on the same level. They're both Big Twelve coaches. they're both made for Big Twelve football, which is just they're not built for the getting the ball run down your throat. And there's not many other schools that'll run the ball down their throat, like Northwestern will do it, 'cause that's just what Northwestern's always done. They've never really had an offense other than we're just gonna run the ball and see kind of what happens and if it works, it works. Which which yes. And and
Micaiah: Th they got one this year with Chip Kelly though, man. Yeah, they
Roberto Con Queso: and it works and it, you know, God bless them. Yeah.
Micaiah: They're running that wing T man. It's working for
Roberto Con Queso: I think when Spence also gets back, their that would their wide receiver has been hurt.
Micaiah: Yeah, and tight end, I believe.
Roberto Con Queso: Which You know, you can't re you shouldn't sit here and go, well, our wide receiver's hurting. It's like, okay, well, you should always have the next man up mentality, the next
Micaiah: Yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: player. I think Penn State will be okay. It's you know, I think they're better off than what Michigan is. Rocco Becht is a much better quarterback than what Bryce is.
Micaiah: So I I would agree with you, their stat lines are about the same. The Penn State argument to that is that's their problem, is that all of hi the Iowa State guys came in and they can't play Big Ten football. They can play good, mediocre to good to great Big twelve football, but they can't play Big Ten football. That's the Penn State fan argument right now.
Roberto Con Queso: Right. But as a Penn State fan, you should have known you were getting an eight and five program. That is who was coming. It was Iowa State. Iowa State was coming. So looking at Penn State and saying, Okay, they're gonna go if they go eight and five, it's to me it's not a it's well, it's a bigger shock because my mind is still saying Penn State is still seeing James Franklin and Penn State ten and two.
Micaiah: Right, ten and two, right, ten and two, right.
Roberto Con Queso: And it's like, they went eight and five and it's like, well, Matt Campbell bringing his guys, eight and five program historically at Iowa State. That is gonna that translates. That makes sense. I feel like it's gonna be a harder thing for it'll be harder for him to recruit his guys to go to Penn State, I think, than it would be for Kyle for Wittingham to get his guys to go to Michigan. And I'd and I'm not really sure if I have an argument on why it would be
Micaiah: Sure.
Roberto Con Queso: harder.
Micaiah: I I so pay so you get more metropolitan area there in Ann Arbor than you do with Happy Valley, right? So so there is that that kind of pull to it. I would agree that I thought that Penn State was success set up for better success just given their schedule. However in the same breath I've been saying all the year that NIL and Transfer Portal has leving leveled the playing field. So why I thought that their schedule was going to be easy, I don't based on last year's results, I I don't know, because I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth. Penn State i like w what they win four games last year?
Roberto Con Queso: No, is they went to a bowl game. I think they ended up with six.
Micaiah: Okay, so they did so they did end up with six, but they were more of a dumpster fire than Michigan was last year. Like Michigan was nine and three, even with everything going on. So I I think that again, people thought, okay, they went nine and three with with their head coach not even paying attention to football. Bring in a head coach that pays attention to football, they'll be ten and two, eleven and one, and make the college football playoff, which isn't the case. I thought that it might take Like maybe not I thought I thought, okay, they're bringing all those guys into Penn State. Yeah, nine and three is doable. And then I saw the schedule. ten and two's very doable. And then but now I'm like, all right, well, maybe Matt Campbell does need a year or two, but Penn State putting that big construction on their stadium. Now they're gonna be the biggest in college football. You know, they get all the the Boosters in there. They had the Franklin run of success. They just again, a lot like Michigan fans, just thought that they would hit the ground running. And both fan bases, I I feel like are in culture shock right now of what are we gonna do? This looks like a downward tailspin forever. If you had to pick between the two programs, who do you think turns it around faster? No timeline, just who do you think turns it around faster?
Roberto Con Queso: I would I would say Michigan. Just I I just think it it it is easier to recruit kids to come to Ann Arbor because you can flash being closer to Detroit where Penn State is just like welcome to the middle of nowhere. So
Micaiah: Yeah, yeah, welcome to the trees.
Roberto Con Queso: yeah. You have that and The recruit I mean, you're also looking money wise. I want to say Michigan probably has more money than Penn State, and I think Michigan is willing to put more money out for football than what Penn State is until I and that is until the end of the season. If the end of the season for Penn State just ends up going off the rails completely, I'm betting they're putting money straight
Micaiah: Yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: up.
Micaiah: Backing up the Brinks trucks
Roberto Con Queso: To fix, yeah.
Micaiah: as it were.
Roberto Con Queso: Where to be honest, I think Michigan might go the opposite and not cut tremendous amounts, but I don't think they would increase.
Micaiah: Sure, sure. May you know, make better kind of look for them gems, the needles in the,
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah.
Micaiah: you know, the diamonds in in the rough, we will. the other program going through it right now, and it has surprised me because this is year four for Deion Sanders in Boulder, Colorado. I thought that they would be bad their the first year, and they were. And then I thought that they would rebound and they made a bowl. And you say what you want. They retired Travis Hunter and Shadur Sanders' numbers. Say what you want about that. But I was like, okay, this is how I'm going. And then I expected year three. They lost some production. They would take a step back, but they still be six and six. They were awful. Three win wins last year. This year, they might not even win a second game. So
Roberto Con Queso: They they're two and three.
Micaiah: Do they have to Okay, they might not win a third game. I I I honestly
Roberto Con Queso: Ha ha ha.
Micaiah: thought they would so bad that they wouldn't w that they only had one win. What's going on with Dion Sanders? And is this his last season?
Roberto Con Queso: Think Colorado's biggest problem is Dion. I don't think Dion's a good football coach. You c you can go and sit and make the argument, well, he did so well in you know the HBCU ranks. And yep, he did. And but he never won a bowl game. And he still has not won a bowl game. But thinking that you're just gonna come into Colorado and it's a Big 12 school and you're just gonna Be great. Yeah, the recruiting looked like it was going to be great because everyone wanted to come play for Dion and everything. but he ult as soon as the minute he got to Colorado, he killed any culture that was there and restarted his own. And that culture is not a winning culture. You have ultimately bred like a team where it's me, me, me, me, me, me, especially with Shadur and Travis when they were there. And walked away from a team mentality and I think you're just seeing all this now. They have no clue like they they have the quarterbacks just th aga giving the ball to other players in the end zone.
Micaiah: Yeah, E E when he threw that pick six, the defensive end caught it and then just didn't know what to do because he's like, I need
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah.
Micaiah: to run the net the step wait, no, there's nowhere to run. Like
Roberto Con Queso: Y you know, you went and you had Julian Lewis, who was a five star, essentially the same spiel as Bryce. Not not I don't think Julian was the number one consensus player. He was like somewhere, but he was pretty up there. You know,
Micaiah: Yeah, yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: he goes to Colorado, you're thinking this is gonna be great, sits the first year, starts the second year, dumpster fire, here we are. And so they they bench him. So he's pretty much done. Like that, you know, he he's more than likely gone next year. I just don't
Micaiah: And that's been all with his high level recruit. McMillan, that corner,
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah.
Micaiah: went back to Florida. That tackle went back to Alabama. Like all their all his high level recruits that have come into the program that he has touted, and he's a very good recruiter, I think, have left the program. So that should tell you a lie.
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Well, and that's the whole thing is yeah, he'll get you to Colorado. You're not going to get any better. You're
Micaiah: Sure.
Roberto Con Queso: arguably going to get worse. And you're not going to you when you go to a different program, you're not going to get as much money as what you think. Because your tape
Micaiah: No, right.
Roberto Con Queso: is not going to be good, because you are just going to get blown out week after week after week after week. And the teams that you're going to beat are the teams that are bad. And
Micaiah: And it's funny because this year they can actually run the ball. They're actually a little tougher on the offensive line of scrimmage, right? On the offensive
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, they just can't do anything else.
Micaiah: they they just can't do anything else. Defensively, they're they're not terrible. Like Texas Tech actually didn't do too much. And apparently their playbook actually got Colorado's playbook got leaked to Texas Tech, and Texas Tech was still trailing at halftime. So that begs the question how good is Texas Tech? I don't think very good. And I think that that downfall's coming rather quickly, but but we'll keep keep an eye on that. all right. So at the end of the let me ask you this question. We're we're not rooting for anyone to get fired, but we are in the podcast hot take market prediction market, if you will, and you've been red hot. Ladies and gentlemen, Robert is twenty nine and seven picking games this year.
Roberto Con Queso: All comes apart this week.
Micaiah: And and his winners aren't even winning by one point. They're winning by fifty-five to nineteen Baylor over Arizona State. UMass got blown off the face of the earth by Eastern. So hats off to Robert, but Robert, here's another prediction. Does Robert does Dion have a job at the end of the year? I'm gonna give you three. So go ahead. Does Dion have
Roberto Con Queso: I'm gonna say yeah, because I don't know if Colorado can afford to pay him out because they didn't
Micaiah: Okay.
Roberto Con Queso: have the money to pay for him in the beginning.
Micaiah: Okay. Is Jason Beck the OC at the end of the year for Michigan?
Roberto Con Queso: Yes.
Micaiah: Okay. And is does Penn State win nine games next year?
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, I'm gonna say they win nine. actually, let's go no because if they had an easy if I mean they should have a brutal schedule next year. So I'll I'm I'm gonna go no. I'm gonna go they're probably sitting at eight and five. I'm thinking.
Micaiah: but depending, I mean, they're going that number on your hat. We are headed right the train is heading down the track for that num amount of playoff teams. So 24. So three to four, four losses,
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, that's true. Yeah.
Micaiah: depending on quality of losses, because you're we're gonna hear start hearing about that quality of losses when it gets to 24 teams. That might get you in. So there is a lot to unpack there. so stick around all season for the rest of the season to see. What becomes of Michigan, Penn State, and Colorado. I don't think very good things. but what might be a very good thing is the fact that Alabama is back. It feels like Alabama's back to me. They can run the ball. Robert, you mentioned it. Caitlin DeBoer seems to have his guys in there. All we were told is his West Coast offense, his his offense, his Pac 12 offense won't fit in the SEC. They're putting up 50 burgers like it's nothing. Keelon Russell is awesome to watch. Their first big text this week is against Georgia. Does Kalen in his third year have this ship turned around? Or I again, he made the playoffs, so it wasn't like he he didn't unturn the ship. So, but does he have this ship sails down
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah.
Micaiah: full speed ahead?
Roberto Con Queso: I think so. It's you know, th this is the year where DeBoore is finally trying to prove me wrong. When I said like he was never gonna win anything there.
Micaiah: Yeah. Yeah. Right.
Roberto Con Queso: so this is this is his shot. He has the he has the team going. The offense is moving tremendously, obviously they don't score anything less than forty b forty five at this point. they kind of start slow. in the like in the first quarter there it's a little slow. So my only worry would be is if they fall if they fall like especially to a team like Georgia they did it against Florida State where they fell behind early and then Florida State just folded. if like Georgia doesn't fold, you know, are they able to continuously play from behind? but I think I think he has them in the direction that he wants. He They're firing all cylinders. They're looking like a Nick Saban style Alabama where they they're just gonna blow ya out. So yeah, we'll see. You know, they'll either gonna be undefeated at the end of the year or they're gonna have One loss.
Micaiah: the thing I'm really enjoying about Alabama is seeing wide receiver depth. There is nothing like seeing just this guy catching you know Ron Coleman Williams, say what you want, but he he he's been pretty good this year. You see him, then you see another guy, and another guy, and it's just and and Keelan R is just throwing these deep balls to these guys, and you're just like, where did they they find these guys? Which is what Calen DeBore had at Washington and had when he was at Fresno as the OC, and I'm sure had it so fall, is just the depth. And so he's finally getting his guys in there. It's really nice to see. If you're an Alabama hater, don't watch Alabama because you're not gonna like what you see. If you're a Miami hater, you're not, you're gonna hate what you see even more. And Miami's Biggest threat on their schedule outside of Notre Dame. Robert, you wanna take a yes?
Roberto Con Queso: let me look at your schedule.
Micaiah: Okay. You don't even need to look at their schedule no to know.
Roberto Con Queso: I mean not really 'cause I always feel like it's Florida State, but let's see their biggest threat other than Notre Dame is Virginia Tech.
Micaiah: No, it's boredom.
Roberto Con Queso: Okay.
Micaiah: on the field, yeah, maybe. Right. Virginia Tech. I I I don't know who in the ACC is gonna be Miami. They are so good. I mean Clemson hit Mal. I mean Malachi Tony like 40 yards on Saturday night, and it didn't matter because they ran for over 200 yards or just about 200 yards. They hit Malachi not Malachi Tony, they hit Darien Mensa. Didn't matter, still dropping dimes. They have the wide receiving talent. they shut down Tony. Barkate has a hundred yards receiving. You they stopped Fletcher in the backfield, then his backup Mallory comes in and just kind of takes over takes over. Then then they get a handle on Mallory. Fletcher comes back in and takes over. Miami's just rolling deep, and defensively, they are very sound. They are very big and athletic up front. Is anyone other Are you are you writing them like are are we cashing the check early? Miami is the ACC champion.
Roberto Con Queso: I would say yeah. I no there's no there's no one else that's consistent. You know, Pitt might have been one that was going to be, but they just lost their starting quarterback. So now they're gonna roll with a backup the entire time. So
Micaiah: I forgot about that. Yeah, they they were on a heater too.
Roberto Con Queso: you know, and Clemson's just not team is just that's a brutal it it's gonna have to be that her that Miami beats themselves in order for a ACC team to win.
Micaiah: Well, so there there you have it. You have given four predictions. at this point only one of them is gonna be wrong, so you guys can comment down below which one of the four he's gonna be he's gonna be wrong about. But my guess is Robert's gonna nail all five. We're all four, that is. let's go ahead and look ahead to week six. Just about the halfway point of the season, and we're going to start on Saturday at noon on Fox. With Indiana and Nebraska. Nebraska is five and for the first time since 2016. Nebraska has an offense with their quarterback. What's his name? Anth Anthony Calandria. He 1100 yards, 13 touchdowns, two interceptions on the year. He can move a little bit. They Can run, they're running the ball well. They're mixing up their offense. Daner Holgerson actually's got a Big 12 offense cooking a little bit in the in the Big Ten, which is surprise, surprise to everyone. And here comes Indiana on a 21 game heater dating back to last season. As good as Anthony Calandry has been, Josh Hoover has been just as good. 1100 yards, 15 touchdowns, zero. interception seventy one completion percentage, Turbo Richards six hundred yards and five T D. Charlie Becker has been good as advertise and continues what he started at in the latter half of last season. Nebraska's got the number ninth ranked overall scoring offense. Indiana's thought the fifth ranked scoring defense. So it is offense versus defense. Meanwhile, Indiana's scoring forty-five points a game against nobody. And Nebraska is only giving up the fifteenth like best points per game. So what do you see happening in this one?
Roberto Con Queso: this one I've this is probably going to be the best twelve o'clock game just from looking at it. I think
Micaiah: Which means that it won't be.
Roberto Con Queso: I think this this is this is probably going to be Matt Rules coming out. This this game here, and it needs to be. This needs to be the game that puts Nebraska back out there. It says, Hey, we can hang with these guys. We can we can handle our own. And doing it at home at noon is I hope they come out with some big ol' energy. Indiana is obviously gonna do what they do. Kurt Zignetti's gonna have ready to run through walls.
Micaiah: Yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: So it's gonna be a war.
Micaiah: And let's not forget Northwestern hung in there. So if we're and Northwestern was well, and Northwest, that was at home for Indiana. So if we're thinking that Nebraska at home isn't going to be able to hang in there and keep this game tight, I I think you're you're you've lost the plot. The spread is eight and a half, which it might finish that. And I could definitely see like a 10 point victory. But I I see this game being close. I I'm with you. I just think home environment, another big game for Nebraska coming up. Matt Rule has found a formula that kind of works. He kind of got off that Dylan Riola train where it was Dylan Riola cent centric. Kalandria comes in, the ball's being spread out a little bit more. And Matt Rule could always have always has had at every single stop good defenses. He's got another here in Lincoln, Nebraska. So that's going to be very interesting. All right, 330 CBS, UCLA, the 4-0 Bruins. If you told me UCLA would be 4-0 four weeks into the or five weeks into the season, I would have said absolutely not. But Bob Chesney has UCLA and Nico Imaliava absolutely cooking. He's got four touchdowns, two interceptions, but what they are doing is they are running the ball. They have the fourth. best rushing offense at two hundred and eighty one yards per game. They are scoring forty-five points a game, which is good for sixth best in the country.
Roberto Con Queso: Do you know who UCLA's top receiver is?
Micaiah: Samaj Morgan.
Roberto Con Queso: How funny is that?
Micaiah: They don't throw it a lot, but when they do, they throw it to the guy
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah.
Micaiah: who couldn't catch in Ann Arbor. That that is very funny. Oregon, they they're off nothing's wrong with their offense. Been saying this forever. Fourth best, fourth best points per game in the country, third best passing per game. They're 70th rushing. I would like to see that. They're eighth best in total yards. The problem is their defense. In scoring their 68th, then rushing their 38th and passing their 101st. Embarrassing. And they're six and
Roberto Con Queso: Oi.
Micaiah: their sixty-fourth best in total yards per game. So the ducks are mediocre on defense and great on offense. UCLA hasn't really played anyone. Sorry, Maryland and Purdue, you don't count. They haven't played anyone and they are running up the score. Dante Moore will he return to practice. He might not play, but shout out Robert, your Lord and Savior Savior, Dylan Riola. Looked just fine in backup. So I'm feeling pretty good, whoever is starting under center for the ducks. How do you see this one going?
Roberto Con Queso: this is the this is the track meet of Saturday. this is going to be whose defense can make a stop. And neither defense is probably going to make a stop. So I think Oregon's Oregon's more built for the speed. So that obviously I believe gives them the edge. they have a a more seasoned I guess it's not really more seasoned, but he's more prone to winning. At least. So
Micaiah: That's a good way to put that.
Roberto Con Queso: I I th I think this is gonna I think this is just gonna be this your atypical Big Ten shootout at least for half the game until we really start to settle in and someone starts getting stops and but
Micaiah: You you are kind of on fire. This game is also in Eugene, which I think help helps the ducks a lot. Well, again, Oregon's defense is awful, but they've been better at stopping the run. And that's what UCLA wants to do. So
Roberto Con Queso: Mm-hmm.
Micaiah: if UC if Oregon can make Nico pass, can the secondary for the ducks, which is a hundred and first in the country, hold up long enough against a team that really doesn't want to pass? They're ninety sixth in passing is UCLA. So they want to run the football. Who can establish their identity on the football game first? Is it going to be the Oregon passing game or is it going to be against a UCLA defense that is 91st against the pass? But again, teams are trying to come back and just throw the ball because they've been blown people out. So are they like, can Oregon establish the passing game first and mix in the run? Or is it going to be that UCLA running game controlling the clock? That's that's gonna be the the big one. All right. we will just go in time order here. And at 7 30 on ABC is quote the game of the day. That's where college game day is, and it's in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the home of Nick's at Nick Sabin Field at Bryant Denny Stadium. The number two Bulldogs of Georgia come calling down the track to the Crimson Tide at home. Both of these offenses are great. Georgia's got the number one scoring offense in the country. Alabama's got the number two. Alabama's got the 51st ranked defense. Georgia's defense is 12th scoring point-wise. You can we can break down the numbers later. To me, who's going to be again, it's an identity game. Who can establish their identity? One stat I do want to give Gunnar Stockton, one interception, completing the ball at 75%. Keelan Russell, though, 71%. Two very efficient offenses. You sure you you like the shootout of the day, UCLA, Oregon? Because this got shootout all over it, written all over.
Roberto Con Queso: Yes. 'cause it does, but this game, part of my language is going to be who's got the bigger balls.
Micaiah: Nice.
Roberto Con Queso: Who's who's going to flex? Who's going to who wants to be the daddy of the SEC? Like who it that's what that is that
Micaiah: It's got
Roberto Con Queso: is who it's going to be. It's not going to be it's not going to be the 55, 40 game. This is going to be the 21, 24, 21, 28, your one score games that You you are going to out tuff your opponent. Is Alabama going to stay hot? Are they going to say, hey, Georgia, you had a good run, but guess who's back? Daddy's back. Or is Georgia going to say, no, no, the big dogs are here to stay. Get the puppy off the porch. You know, th this is this this is essentially a precursor to the SEC championship.
Micaiah: A as it has been. Yeah, as it has
Roberto Con Queso: Like this it this is what it's going to be. Yes.
Micaiah: as it has been. The last time these two team met was in the last year's SEC title game, and that was Georgia putting their foot down, not close at all. Alabama had negative rushing yards, I do believe, in that game. If I'm remembering correct. I don't know if you remember, but I rem like
Roberto Con Queso: I don't remember.
Micaiah: like Alabama, who last year couldn't run the football to begin with, like Had I think ended up because of sack yardage, had negative rushing yards for the game. Georgia to this season also returned eight defensive starters. Their nose tackle, their defensive end, their defensive tackle, two linebackers, a corner, and two safeties. So you're giving me the better defense on the road, the better defense to this point, and a more cohesive defense, period, end stop. On the road with an offense that is hyper-efficient with Gunnar Stockton. That that is a tough matchup for the home team. and Keelon Russell for a he's good, but this is going to be the best defense he faces maybe all year until we get to the playoff. But even then, George George's defense is pretty good. And then 1030 on CW. This is a game that I don't think a lot of people thought we would preview, but I I'd like to preview good games. One and in Pac-12 versus one and in Pac 12. This has huge college football playoff implication on the line. It's on CW, so you're like, what two big teams are playing on CW? It's Boise State and Fresno State. Boise's right now in that driver's seat for that group of six position. Based on how they've looked this year, they've already taken care of Western. They played Oregon really well on the road. That was their only loss. Or Boise right now is just killing you with efficiency. They don't do anything sexy. They're about 50th in scoring, 20th in rushing, 86th in passing, 43rd overall yards per game, but they're just being hyper. Hyper efficient. Maddox Maxon's completing 60% of his passes and no turnovers. Dylan Riley's run for about 700 yards. 6.8 yards of carry, by the way. Five touchdowns. They're just killing you with efficiency. And then on the other hand, Fresno State hasn't not been half bad either. Again, they're in the mid-70s to 80s on offense. Their defense is the same. Boise's defense. You know, 50th, 40th, as you were. This is just two really good, efficient offenses. By the way, last week, Matic against Utah State, Madsen 81% completion and two touchdowns. Fresno State, though, Mandal, 73% completion on the road last week to beat Washington State. How do you see this game playing out?
Roberto Con Queso: It's all gonna come down to can Fresno State's secondary hold up against Boise? the one game that Fresno State lost it was against USC and USC just That ball I don't know if that ball even touched the ground. But that it's what it's come down to. Can't you know, they should be able to hold their own run game wise against Boise State. but you can't let Mad Max get loose. You can't let him find that rhythm. You can't let him you can't let him spin the beam. You know, he he's he's gonna he's gonna throw that thing across the field, over the field, under the field, any way he can. Boise State is I mean Boise State's Boise State. We watched them demolish Western, which we thought, you know, why now Western looked good against Michigan and we kind of got up on that, but obviously the wind is looking good against Michigan at this point. but yeah, Boise State's in the driver's seat. They got one hand on the steering wheel, one hand on the passenger seat saying who wants to join me? So I I don't I just don't see Fresno State needs a lot to go their way. is it possible to defeat Boise? 100%. just you gotta hold up and you gotta you gotta make sure it's your day.
Micaiah: some keys to the game presented by ESPN. Fresno is a hundredth in third down percentage, converting only thirty-five percent of the time. However, Boise ranks sixth, allowing its opponents to convert at a 25% clip. Fresno ranks third in the FBS in turnover margin. However, Boise doesn't turn the ball over. And Here's what I here's what I like. Fresno is 55th in average time of possession. The number one ranked team in the all of college football, Boise State. So as you said, can Fresno get off the field against Boise defensively? Because if they don't, they it is just going to be first down, first down, first down. And if you go three and out, you're not going to see the ball for another six minutes. It is very much. It makes you think that of those really efficient Navy Army teams that can just seven-minute drive, six-minute drive, seven-minute drive, and you've only had the ball twice in the first half, and now you're down seven and you're and you're or ten, and you're like, I don't know if we have enough possessions left to get this ball down the field twice. So that'll be a very interesting game to keep an eye on. that is 1030 CW, you staying up for that one.
Roberto Con Queso: no. However, if there if there would ever be a game to stay up for a ten thirty game, that is probably one of them. However, no.
Micaiah: All right. Fair. that's fair. I want to see, does Hawaii play this week? No, that is actually the latest game kickoff-wise. Hawaii does play this week, but they're at Arizona State. So Boise Fresno is the latest game. Boise is favored by six and a half. So everyone go ahead and keep an eye on that or just look at the score on Sunday morning, as it were. All right, we have done. All of that, and we are now going to get into Robert's favorite section. I've kind of given him a section of the podcast to fill people in. So we are going to look at his CFP bracket right now. He's going to give the teams what he believes as of right now, week at the end of week five. Who are your 12 teams to make the playoff right now? Changes from week to week.
Roberto Con Queso: right now. we got Texas as one.
Micaiah: Okay.
Roberto Con Queso: Ohio State is two. Nothing changes there. number
Micaiah: Great. One two hasn't changed.
Roberto Con Queso: number three, still Miami.
Micaiah: Yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: Number four, Notre Dame.
Micaiah: All right.
Roberto Con Queso: Number five, Georgia. Still hasn't changed. Yep, let me hear it. Let me hear.
Micaiah: Can I can I pause you here just for one quiet one? If Georgia beats Alabama on the road, would they jump into the top two?
Roberto Con Queso: I'm still gonna say I w I wanna like, you know, I'm trying to do this as if you would have like your conference champions as like your one, two, three, four.
Micaiah: Yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: But I feel like I they would sneak in, they would be four, they would probably bump Notre Dame out
Micaiah: Okay.
Roberto Con Queso: in in my reasoning. But until like Texas isn't number one, like that's still and Ohio State would it that's that is the only
Micaiah: Well I I
Roberto Con Queso: reason that they wouldn't be one and two for me.
Micaiah: So I guess what I'm asking is like if
Roberto Con Queso: Are they the second best team? Hundred percent. If they would win.
Micaiah: Right. So your four conference champions don't get the first four seeds anymore. So I am wondering like at what point would you like Georgia hasn't played anyone right now, which is probably why they're five, right? So at what point would they enter the Texas Ohio State territory of they played someone and they played really well? I guess that's what I'm asking.
Roberto Con Queso: well yeah, if they beat Bama, then I would probably throw them at three
Micaiah: Okay.
Roberto Con Queso: just to which I know it would still be like the well that's you know they you could put them over Ohio State, but the Ohio State Texas game was just as close as what it like Ohio State had that game one and then they lost it themselves. So it's like
Micaiah: Right. And then they choked it, yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: having them one and two I'm totally fine with until something unless like Texas has a loses to somebody. Or Ohio State has a really bad game against someone that they shouldn't to warrant them to move back one more. But yeah, I would have Georgia's three if they would if they pull off beating Bama.
Micaiah: Okay, I'm just trying to see how your brain works. All right. I'm sorry I interrupted you. We were Georgia five, number six.
Roberto Con Queso: Not it is not very functional. I have Indiana at six.
Micaiah: Alright, Florida that took it just a massive pooper. Alright, get them out. Florida's
Roberto Con Queso: Get out They ain't back.
Micaiah: Florida's gone.
Roberto Con Queso: Bama would be my next team.
Micaiah: Okay.
Roberto Con Queso: then I have BYU.
Micaiah: Okay, so they jumped old Miss. Okay.
Roberto Con Queso: And then old Yes. And then I would have Old Miss.
Micaiah: Mm-hmm.
Roberto Con Queso: Then I would have LSU. And then How many teams is that? Wait, one, two, three, four, five, six.
Micaiah: You need well, you took out Florida, so you need one. You need to replace Florida.
Roberto Con Queso: I need one. Okay, yeah. It would have been Texas Tech would be eleven and
Micaiah: Okay.
Roberto Con Queso: then Boise State is my twelve.
Micaiah: I I think out of all those, like the most that Texas the the big twelve's wide open to me. Texas Tech. I I don't believe in them at all. Not as I did last
Roberto Con Queso: I
Micaiah: year.
Roberto Con Queso: by the time we get to the actual rankings, half of these teams are probably not going to be there. I would say.
Micaiah: I I yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. all right. So our all mostly college football team, fantasy team, is 0 4. Not doing real well. Did we get our first win? Yay,
Roberto Con Queso: Yes we did.
Micaiah: there we go. It we go.
Roberto Con Queso: All because half of the half of half of the other team was not playing. They were on bye weeks and we won.
Micaiah: Okay, alright. Okay. Alright.
Roberto Con Queso: Even though Jeremiah Smith still had thirty two.
Micaiah: Okay.
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah.
Micaiah: Is he on a bye week this week? That's our only hope.
Roberto Con Queso: No, they play Maryland. yeah, they play Maryland.
Micaiah: he's gonna have 9,000 yards. He's
Roberto Con Queso: I don't know.
Micaiah: gonna be the NCAA all-time leader in yards at the end of the Maryland game. He might have 300 yards. Gee, in a half! Maryland's so bad.
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. I it's Yeah. Yeah. It's we're we are currently witnessing something great and the bad part is, man, they're probably not gonna win the national championship.
Micaiah: I but if there the if there is a player that other than a quarterback that could do it, it's him. I have seen
Roberto Con Queso: hundred percent. And
Micaiah: two two wide receivers been able to do that. One is Devontae Smith, and then Jeremiah Smith will see if he can do it this year. It would he would be the second.
Roberto Con Queso: And you know, you're always gonna have the argument, well, Saiyan's throwing him the ball and it's like, listen, Saiyan's throwing the ball, but when this guy catches this damn thing, it's something special. I mean, he is he's the real deal.
Micaiah: I he he he
Roberto Con Queso: He's probably the most NFL ready player that I've seen, like, at least wide receiver wise, in
Micaiah: Yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: a hot minute.
Micaiah: Yeah. People online, so I on the clips on the socials, people did not like that I said, in my personal opinion, Devontae Smith is the greatest college football wide receiver of all time. And people didn't like that. you know, people go back and forth. He Devontae Smith has the Heisman, Jeremiah doesn't, you know, they both have national championships, all that. I put Devontae Smith ahead of Jeremiah Smith because Jeremiah Smith is big and he's fast. Jeremia or Devontae Smith is small and scrawny. He's fast, but he's small and scrawny. But he played a lot bigger than the however big Jeremia Smith is. How how big is he? Like six two?
Roberto Con Queso: Maybe.
Micaiah: If I could spell right. Jeremiah Smith. He's 6'4, 220 pounds. Devontae Smith is like a buck 75 soaking wet and maybe six feet tall. But pound for pound, yes. Jeremiah Smith is absolutely the greatest college. Like, he's tired, it's one in one A at this point. He he's outstanding to watch.
Roberto Con Queso: I mean if he keeps these numbers up like I would make him one A.
Micaiah: I I and I wouldn't and I wouldn't have an argument to defend that, you
Roberto Con Queso: Right.
Micaiah: know? Would he be Who who's your greatest right now? Is it Jeremiah Smith?
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, I think right now I would say y I would say yeah. I mean, yeah, he doesn't have the high zone, but I think a lot of it is based off his consistency. Just be like it this is like a year in and year out thing. Like I didn't know who Devontae Smith was until like that final year with the con and so it's
Micaiah: Right. Where he had yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: yeah, so it's like I didn't really see and that's a lot of that goes also to the fact that Alabama just had freaks everywhere. but with Devontae Smith, it's kinda like I've been like I've been saying like, yo, this this guy's he's probably going to be the guy. And he you know, and he's been consistently doing it on teams where he's had very good talent around him. So I mean
Micaiah: So he is a hundredth all time in receiving yards, Jeremiah Smith, that is, at thirty-three eighty one. Yeah, I don't know how many he has right now, but let's just say he averages 150 for the next, you know, for the rest of the season. He's probably gonna be close to 2,000 yards on the season, I would have to imagine. To get up to where Javante Smith is now, he needs 600 yards. He'll have that in a blink of an eye. I'm gonna guess he's gonna finish with at least another thousand on the year to 1,200. So that let's just. Say that puts him at forty five hundred on the year, forty three hundred.
Roberto Con Queso: And then he's he would still be short of Cooper Cup, wouldn't he?
Micaiah: He so if he Corey Davis. Yes.
Roberto Con Queso: Or my lord. Yes, Corey Davis.
Micaiah: So if he get has another thousand yards as of right now, that would put him at forty three hundred, which would put him at 13th all time receiving yardage-wise. Corey Davis is
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah.
Micaiah: at 52. So he he would act absolutely have to go. If he beats Corey Davis or enters the top five to 45 to 5,000 yards career receiving in three years, absolutely I my argument for Devontae Smith is done. And he might get it this year. I mean, if he cause he can go for 200 in every single game if he wants to. It's just
Roberto Con Queso: yeah.
Micaiah: what it at some point the defensive coordinator will be like, just put three guys on him. He's gonna get the Megatron treatment. Three guys
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Micaiah: all the time, and he'll still probably catch it. He makes bad passes look really good. All right, so mostly all college football team did get a win. That is great. We have no new names added to the funding's names list. The most recent one was Fluff Bothwell, who only ran the ball one time for one yard on Saturday because he got hurt. Well I'm highest ticket, lowest ticket, what you got?
Roberto Con Queso: Ooh, highest. I was go lowest first. Seven bucks. That'll get you to go see Minnesota Purdue.
Micaiah: Jeez. Hey,
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah.
Micaiah: shout out Purdue. Getting their first Big Ten win in like a year and a half. Shout out Purdue.
Roberto Con Queso: Who'd they be?
Micaiah: Illinois, I think. Let me look.
Roberto Con Queso: Ooh, that's an odd one. I would have not have called that game.
Micaiah: Mm maybe I'm maybe I'm wrong. I could be wrong. Yeah, they beat Illinois twenty four seventeen. Yeah.
Roberto Con Queso: Interesting. Yeah, that's not who I would have expected them to be. Ruckers, sure. Michigan at this point? Also sure.
Micaiah: Yeah. so Perdon is finally in the win column in the big ten for a for the first time. So they are lowest ticket, unfortunately, this week. I'm sure they have a great environment. Go check them out. Gold Gophers coming off of a well, good win, I guess. finally beat Michigan at home for the first time in like fifty years. So congrats to them. Highest ticket, I would have to assume Bama, Georgia.
Roberto Con Queso: Bama, Georgia, two sixteen.
Micaiah: Alrighty. Rain Man who isn't here because he doesn't have volleyball this week, but boy, he just scheduled a concert. What are we doing? Like it sometimes I wanna look at him and be like, Do you actually wanna be a part of this podcast?
Roberto Con Queso: Hey man, listen, he just wants to be like Brass Underwood. Brass Underwood can't read a defense and Simeon just can't read a calendar, so
Micaiah: Yeah, it reading is hard sometimes. Reading is hard sometimes. So the g
Roberto Con Queso: Ha ha ha.
Micaiah: his games that they, again, who's they? don't want you to watch. He claims that what the we're they, but we want you to watch every college football game. Any big twelve game, that's what he wrote. Any big
Roberto Con Queso: Rice.
Micaiah: twelve game. that's true college that's true college football right now. You're not wrong. They have the most exciting football right now. that West Virginia, Iowa State game, master class offense. Master class offense and master class what not to do defensively. Definitely. North Carolina Pittsburgh, gonna have to disagree. I think that's a very sloppy game, especially since I just remembered that or you said that Mason Heinschel will not be starting for Pittsburgh. ACL?
Roberto Con Queso: It's what it looked like. I don't I didn't like look further into it.
Micaiah: S some sort of lower body injury, fair enough. Penn State USC, they are not on my pick this week because just Penn State's falling apart. However, because of that, probably should go watch them. And Lincoln Riley is traveling two time zones over. That never bodes well for the Trojans, and Penn State white out at home at night. you might want to tune into that. Louisiana, Louisiana Tech. I don't like I don't even know. Is that game even remotely good? Like what are the records of those teams? I'm looking it.
Roberto Con Queso: Have to
Micaiah: I'm looking it up right now. Or maybe he's just saying it because it's a rivalry game. I don't know. It would help it
Roberto Con Queso: That sounds like something you would do.
Micaiah: would help if I one's four and one, one's two and two. They're both in the sunbelt. Okay, so I guess if you want to watch Sunbelt football, that's fine. And then Duke and Georgia Tech. No. I gotta call BS on this one.
Roberto Con Queso: Hey.
Micaiah: Duke, fine. Georgite Tech, no. Georgia Tech is n un good at the line of scrimmage this year. No, absolutely not. so those are Rain Man's games. They, whoever they are, don't want you to watch for week number. Well, we are already on week number six, are we not? That is crazy. All righty, for the games of the week to watch on your couch. Everyone knows that your favorite college football, every every favorite. This is just not going well. I've
Roberto Con Queso: You do you wanna you wanna restart that or? Yeah.
Micaiah: been doing this for seven weeks now. You'd think I would be better at it. All right. Let me let me
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah.
Micaiah: so let me start over, dude. I am I am in that downward spiral that Penn State and Michigan are in. I'm just taking on the identity of my football team right now. All right. Robert, we're gonna get things started with Indiana, Nebraska. At this point, I'm just gonna let you go first so that I can just copy your picks.
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. so this week we are going off the rails. I got a six game lead here. So
Micaiah: You know how I rate I'm gonna be if you still go five and one? You're gonna go off the rails. Chaos
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah.
Micaiah: is gonna be happening, and you just call it.
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, because I'm going the obviously the first game is between Nebraska and Indiana, correct?
Micaiah: Yeah. Yeah. huh.
Roberto Con Queso: yeah. So I'm going with big red and the red that I'm going with is Nebraska. I just all I'm just basically going off of the fact that this is it's gonna be a good game. And I I it's
Micaiah: Okay, yeah, I okay.
Roberto Con Queso: a home game for Nebraska. I think Matt Rule's gonna get amped up. I think Indiana's finally gonna slip up.
Micaiah: they are begging to slip up. Right. It's like getting to that point in the streak where it's like, okay, when are they gonna lose? Not begging because they play good football, but when are they gonna lose? When are they gonna lose every
Roberto Con Queso: Mm-hmm.
Micaiah: single week? By the way, the standings are Robert's running away with this thing. Simeon got a little closer to 500. He's now only three games below. I'm 23 and 14. I'm respectable, but you are just it just blowing it's like me hanging around at 10 and 2 and you're sitting there at sixteen and being like, ha ha, I showed you. anyway, I'm gonna go with Indiana, mostly because I have to to play catch up. And secondly, I do think that they are better defensively than what Nebraska is. I do think it is close. If the game ends in double digits, it was single digits in a one possession game for 50 of the 60 minutes. I think maybe the last quarter, Indiana pulls away there and makes it double digits, but I think Nebraska keeps this thing close throughout. Sold out crowd. third biggest city in Nebraska on Saturday is the stadium itself. UCLA and Oregon. It has been self-proclaimed by Robert, the shootout of the week. So if you like points, go tune into that one. UCLA Oregon, Bob. Who you got?
Roberto Con Queso: I'm gonna go with the homegrown man himself, Bob Chesney, and give me U L A.
Micaiah: Okay, so Robert is really going off the rails. I am going to go with Oregon's at home. They coming off a bye week, coming off a big win before that with U UC or USC, rival of UCLA. Nothing's wrong with Oregon's offense. They're gonna put up a bunch of points. This is the first time UCLA has been tested in an environment like Oregon at Austin Stadium. That's a tough one. Nico will be fine. Which team, though, can enforce their identity better? And I think Oregon's gonna stop the run of UCLA, force Nico to pass. Now we're gonna see how Oregon's secondary holds up. I think it'll hold up just fine because I think Oregon's gonna score 42 points on UCLA's defense. So give me, go ahead and give me Oregon. Again, I mainly have to pick this way because I'm trying to play catch up. Georgia Bama. This is a toss-up game either way you'll look at it. Everyone has a great argument. Simeon is going with Bama. He also went with Indiana and Oregon, so we're following each other through the first two picks. Who you got?
Roberto Con Queso: if this was the SEC championship I would go Georgia, but since it is a regular season game and I'm following the past three years that Bama has played Georgia, so I'm going with Alabama.
Micaiah: This is a home game for Alabama, as you said, which helps Keelan Russell. I do think that is a downside to this pick. I am going with Georgia because they have the better defense. Best defense that Alabama and Keelan Russell have seen all year. However, Kaelin De Boer has had Georgia's number in regulation to this point. Point in the regulation in regular season to this point. It's the title game, is where he kind of struggles. But I'm gonna go with Georgia, the better defense, most cohesive defense, eight returning starters to get it done Saturday night on ABC. Fresno State and Boise State, they will cap a great week of college football, I'm sure, because all the weeks are great. If you are a great call if you are a good college football fan, Boise State, Fresno State, 10:30 p.m. kickoff on the CW. If you don't know where that is found, you can get that through your antenna. So go check that out. Boise State, Fresno State, who you got?
Roberto Con Queso: still gonna roll with Mad Max until I can't anymore, so I'm going boise.
Micaiah: So this is the first time we've agreed all pick segment. I'm also gonna roll with Boise State. I've leaned away from Boise State the last two times. It's bit me in the butt. I'm rolling with them again. efficiency, efficiency, number one in time of possession. They're just gonna keep the ball away from Fresno, who has a tough time converting on third downs. Okay, Houston and Kansas State, big game in the Big 12. Because the Big 12 is very wide open. Houston needed a 17-point comeback last week against UCF in front of a home crowd that was maybe 10 people in the stands. No one was there. Kansas State got a good environment in the in Manhattan there in Kansas. So Colin Klein's got things rolling. Only one loss. They had a big win last week against Cincinnati. Or two weeks ago, whenever that was, or maybe it was vice versa. Either way, they've had a big win recently. Houston, Kansas State, who you got?
Roberto Con Queso: Kansas State lost to Cincinnati last time.
Micaiah: Thank you.
Roberto Con Queso: I am gonna go with the the purple boys. I'm going Kansas State.
Micaiah: Okay, I'm trying to can you see who they're can't I remember Kansas State has a big wing. Can you look that up why I make my pick? I'm also gonna go with
Roberto Con Queso: Yeah.
Micaiah: I'm also gonna go with Kansas State here at home. Colin Klein seems to have already implemented his identity on this squad. Losing at home losing on the road Nipper at Nippurch Stadium to Cincinnati is nothing to scoff at. I'm gonna go with Kansas State as well because they are the home team. And quite frankly, I haven't loved how Houston has looked in their the last couple of times I've seen them because I don't think Texas Tech is very good. And then s they needed again a seventeen point comeback against UCF.
Roberto Con Queso: I'm I'm just assuming that you're talking about when they played Nichols.
Micaiah: Have they not played anyone all year? Okay. Maybe Tulane. Okay.
Roberto Con Queso: Washington State and Tulane. So I mean, I guess you you could call Tulane, I guess.
Micaiah: All right. still a big game in the Big 12. And finally, another team that is 5-0, taking on a team that only has one loss. North Dakota State. In the the big time Mountain West game. North Dakota State UNLV Saturday night. Five and North Dakota State, does UNLV hand them? This is 7 PM on the CW, right before Boise State Fresno State, does does the Bison get handed their first loss?
Roberto Con Queso: gonna say no. I'm gonna go with North Dakota State, even though this is probably the best shot that someone's gonna give them. But I'm gonna say the bisons stay they stay undefeated.
Micaiah: UNLV is 1-0 in the Mountain West. Boise State's 2-0. UNLV big win versus Cow last week. North Dakota State's defense is ridiculously good. Level of competition aside, they are first in points per game, 32nd in rushing, fifth in passing, and third in overall yards. That defense is nasty. So I've kind of done defense all This week with my pick. I'm not going to change that now. Give me North Dakota State to win UNLV. It'd be 6-0. And now, even with Boise, we got to have a real conversation between group of six. If Boise win or if Boise loses, now it's a super real conversation as long as North Dakota State wins over who gets that 12th spot in the college football playoff. Bob, we did it. Another episode in the books.
Roberto Con Queso: We did it. Yeah, we did.
Micaiah: Alrighty. Well, everyone, we are going to say goodbye. Thank you, everyone, for being here. Make sure you wash your hands, you filthy animals. Enjoy your college football Saturday. I hope God blesses your week. Peace out.
