2 Chronicles 21 explained. King Jehoram turns Judah away from God, bringing judgment upon himself and his kingdom.
After becoming king, Jehoram murders his brothers and follows the wicked ways of King Ahab’s family. He leads Judah into idolatry, and rebellion spreads throughout the kingdom. Through a letter from the prophet Elijah, God warns Jehoram of the consequences of his unfaithfulness.
Judah suffers military defeats, Jehoram loses his possessions and family, and he eventually dies from a painful disease. His reign ends in disgrace, with no one mourning his death.
Yet God does not destroy David’s royal line, because He had promised to preserve it.
2 Chronicles 21 warns that power cannot protect us from God’s judgment, but God remains faithful to His promises despite human failure. Jehoram’s wickedness contrasts with Jesus Christ, the faithful Son of David, whose righteous reign will never end.
