00:00:01.199 --> 00:00:05.280
Hello, and welcome back to another edition of The Shift.
2
00:00:05.400 --> 00:00:08.880
I am Catherine E. Trotter, your host. Today's gonna be
3
00:00:08.880 --> 00:00:12.960
another phenomenal conversation. So you know what you gotta do.
4
00:00:13.000 --> 00:00:15.640
You got to hit the share button and share this
5
00:00:15.800 --> 00:00:20.039
with your network, share it with your community, because we
6
00:00:20.120 --> 00:00:24.000
have someone I think that's going to share some valuable information.
7
00:00:24.079 --> 00:00:26.359
I like to call it golden nuggets. I'm going to
8
00:00:26.440 --> 00:00:28.760
read a little snippet of his bio and then we'll
9
00:00:28.800 --> 00:00:32.920
bring him on officially. So Jake Isham, he's in the
10
00:00:33.039 --> 00:00:34.799
Los Angeles, California area.
11
00:00:35.600 --> 00:00:36.520
He believes in.
12
00:00:36.560 --> 00:00:42.000
Helping founders and executives to build personal brands that wins trust.
13
00:00:42.719 --> 00:00:45.719
It also leads to deals. You know, he's a filmmaker
14
00:00:46.600 --> 00:00:49.960
and he is a brand strategist. Without further ado, let's
15
00:00:49.960 --> 00:00:52.200
welcome Jake. Thank you so much for being on the show,
16
00:00:53.119 --> 00:00:54.320
having me here.
17
00:00:54.359 --> 00:00:55.000
Absolutely.
18
00:00:55.320 --> 00:00:57.640
You know, we had a moment, a brief moment to
19
00:00:57.719 --> 00:01:00.799
talk prior to now, and just in those moments, it
20
00:01:01.000 --> 00:01:04.359
really left an impression upon me about the knowledge and
21
00:01:04.400 --> 00:01:07.359
your skill set in the industry that you're in. Right,
22
00:01:07.680 --> 00:01:11.120
So before we talk all about your company creative minds,
23
00:01:11.400 --> 00:01:14.000
tell everybody a little bit about who is Jake and
24
00:01:14.040 --> 00:01:16.560
what drew you to the film industry.
25
00:01:18.319 --> 00:01:23.319
Well, I'm born and raised in Los Angeles, and I
26
00:01:23.359 --> 00:01:28.200
feel like I almost have like a cliche story where.
27
00:01:28.159 --> 00:01:30.599
I grew up acting. I grew up acting. I love
28
00:01:30.680 --> 00:01:31.400
being on stage.
29
00:01:31.400 --> 00:01:33.079
I grew up acting from the age of five to
30
00:01:33.200 --> 00:01:38.079
about sixteen seventeen years old. And then at that point
31
00:01:38.400 --> 00:01:41.120
around in my mid teens, I had an agent, had
32
00:01:41.120 --> 00:01:43.200
a manager, and I was doing a lot of auditions,
33
00:01:43.519 --> 00:01:45.719
but I was getting most of the auditions myself, and
34
00:01:45.760 --> 00:01:50.959
I was like, this is ridiculous and pretentious. Sixteen year
35
00:01:51.000 --> 00:01:55.319
old Jake went, well, I'm gonna stop auditioning and I'm going.
36
00:01:55.239 --> 00:01:57.799
To just write and direct my own movies. You know
37
00:01:57.920 --> 00:01:58.480
I can do that.
38
00:01:58.560 --> 00:02:02.599
Of course, it's a little uh, it's not as easy
39
00:02:02.599 --> 00:02:02.879
as that.
40
00:02:04.640 --> 00:02:07.920
But I went to film school and learned behind.
41
00:02:07.640 --> 00:02:09.840
The camera, and by the end of those four years,
42
00:02:09.919 --> 00:02:13.520
I forgot that I even cared about acting, and I
43
00:02:13.599 --> 00:02:17.400
felt completely in love with the craft of directing.
44
00:02:18.560 --> 00:02:21.280
But isn't it how life is, Right, We'll start off
45
00:02:21.319 --> 00:02:24.360
on one path, like you have the love for acting
46
00:02:24.479 --> 00:02:27.319
as a teenager, you delved into it and even hit
47
00:02:27.960 --> 00:02:30.960
a lot of guts in you to say I'm gonna
48
00:02:30.960 --> 00:02:32.560
take the bull by the horn and do it myself
49
00:02:32.560 --> 00:02:36.319
with getting myself featured in certain opportunities. But then when
50
00:02:36.360 --> 00:02:39.319
you went to film school, you discovered another passion of yours.
51
00:02:39.360 --> 00:02:41.120
Talk about the discovery of that passion.
52
00:02:43.120 --> 00:02:45.360
I mean it was very in line with what I
53
00:02:45.360 --> 00:02:45.879
had been doing.
54
00:02:45.879 --> 00:02:48.879
I grew up doing obviously acting, and I had also
55
00:02:49.000 --> 00:02:51.520
grew up doing music. I was very fortunate that both
56
00:02:51.560 --> 00:02:54.680
my parents are artists and are working artists, and so
57
00:02:55.280 --> 00:02:58.280
I was raised in a household where being an artist
58
00:02:58.400 --> 00:02:59.960
was a career.
59
00:03:01.159 --> 00:03:03.680
It was you know, it was a very you could say,
60
00:03:03.960 --> 00:03:04.919
very not the.
61
00:03:04.960 --> 00:03:08.120
Norm of like, go get a real job. My parents
62
00:03:08.400 --> 00:03:13.000
real job was being an artist. Yea. So it was
63
00:03:13.080 --> 00:03:15.319
very much okay, you want to be a filmmaker, great,
64
00:03:16.120 --> 00:03:19.199
go go, yeah, go figure it out.
65
00:03:19.400 --> 00:03:21.039
You know. I grew up doing music.
66
00:03:20.800 --> 00:03:23.960
And performing in DJ, and I had a whole and
67
00:03:24.240 --> 00:03:25.639
career in music, and.
68
00:03:25.560 --> 00:03:27.240
I always around.
69
00:03:27.680 --> 00:03:31.199
Yeah, and so I just made the shift at you know, uh,
70
00:03:31.879 --> 00:03:35.680
in senior year of college. It was a very clear
71
00:03:35.759 --> 00:03:38.639
moment and decisive moment where I was just like, great,
72
00:03:38.719 --> 00:03:40.879
I'm going to double down on the film stuff and
73
00:03:41.280 --> 00:03:43.560
make this a career and.
74
00:03:45.159 --> 00:03:46.719
Been kind of figuring out ever since.
75
00:03:48.039 --> 00:03:49.719
Yeah, No, I think that's beautiful.
76
00:03:49.719 --> 00:03:52.240
And for those that are tuned in and those that
77
00:03:52.719 --> 00:03:55.280
you know, feel connected to something that's being said, definitely
78
00:03:55.319 --> 00:03:57.800
share this. You're tuned into the shift. And I think
79
00:03:57.840 --> 00:04:01.520
something that struck me your parents. You modeled a lot
80
00:04:01.599 --> 00:04:03.680
of what you saw your parents doing, and they gave
81
00:04:03.719 --> 00:04:07.879
you the freedom and the encouragement to flow in what
82
00:04:07.960 --> 00:04:09.840
you wanted to do. Because a lot of times, to
83
00:04:09.879 --> 00:04:11.919
your point, people will say, oh, you can't really make
84
00:04:11.960 --> 00:04:15.280
money in the arts or so forth, but that's contrary.
85
00:04:15.360 --> 00:04:18.279
It is a very real industry, very real money to
86
00:04:18.319 --> 00:04:18.879
be made.
87
00:04:19.439 --> 00:04:23.759
You locked into your vision of how you saw yourself flowing.
88
00:04:23.920 --> 00:04:26.800
And I think modeling is very important. Again, you said
89
00:04:26.800 --> 00:04:29.839
you saw your parents, you grew up in it. But
90
00:04:30.120 --> 00:04:32.600
I think what's beautiful also because there's so many ways
91
00:04:32.600 --> 00:04:35.279
you can go when we talk about the arts in
92
00:04:35.319 --> 00:04:38.439
that arts community, but you dived into something that struck
93
00:04:38.439 --> 00:04:40.680
a chord for you, not saying all the other things
94
00:04:40.680 --> 00:04:43.480
you were doing wasn't a real space for you, but
95
00:04:43.519 --> 00:04:45.360
when you dived into the film, and I want to
96
00:04:45.439 --> 00:04:47.560
kind of shift to that. What shifted you then to
97
00:04:47.639 --> 00:04:49.120
start creative minds?
98
00:04:50.560 --> 00:04:53.439
Well, it was, to be honest, it was like, how
99
00:04:53.439 --> 00:04:56.360
do I make money doing this? You know? Okay, great,
100
00:04:56.399 --> 00:04:58.439
I have a piece of paper that says I'm a filmmaker,
101
00:04:58.879 --> 00:05:01.759
And anybody who knows the industry knows that there's kind
102
00:05:01.800 --> 00:05:04.079
of like one of two ways you can do it.
103
00:05:04.160 --> 00:05:04.879
You can kind of.
104
00:05:04.839 --> 00:05:07.319
Work your way up from being a PA, you know,
105
00:05:07.360 --> 00:05:10.120
which is like a production assistant. Can you work your
106
00:05:10.120 --> 00:05:12.360
way up the ladder and then until eventually you get
107
00:05:12.399 --> 00:05:16.399
your shot? Yeah, or you kind of take a stab
108
00:05:16.439 --> 00:05:19.279
at the freelance lifestyle. I had done a couple of
109
00:05:19.319 --> 00:05:24.720
the PA type jobs and was like nope, and really
110
00:05:24.759 --> 00:05:27.199
just so I was like, this is so not what
111
00:05:27.240 --> 00:05:32.000
I want to do. I've been very fortunate and it's
112
00:05:32.040 --> 00:05:33.639
been you know, definitely had its ups and downs, but
113
00:05:33.680 --> 00:05:38.240
I've never worked for somebody else. I've but because of that,
114
00:05:38.319 --> 00:05:42.480
it's definitely been there's a lack of security throughout the
115
00:05:42.560 --> 00:05:47.439
last fifteen years and so, but basically what started with
116
00:05:47.560 --> 00:05:50.319
Creative Minds was like, Okay, I got to figure this out.
117
00:05:50.439 --> 00:05:52.399
I have a skill set and.
118
00:05:53.959 --> 00:05:57.199
I was growing my own social media relatively quickly at
119
00:05:57.199 --> 00:05:59.920
that point, and I was kind of learning marketing and
120
00:06:00.639 --> 00:06:03.600
it just kind of sings where what can I provide
121
00:06:03.759 --> 00:06:08.279
value in terms of I have these skills, who needs
122
00:06:08.319 --> 00:06:12.920
these skills? And you know, in my early twenties, I
123
00:06:12.920 --> 00:06:15.600
have to learn business. I had to basically go to
124
00:06:15.680 --> 00:06:19.720
business school then, but on my own and still am
125
00:06:19.759 --> 00:06:21.959
going to business schools in the sense of like I'm
126
00:06:22.000 --> 00:06:28.879
still learning, still figuring it out, because the entrepreneurship specifically,
127
00:06:28.920 --> 00:06:31.199
like that skill set is not like an inherent skill
128
00:06:31.240 --> 00:06:34.720
set sales, marketing, etc. Like you could say more of
129
00:06:34.720 --> 00:06:38.079
the film stuff is the passion and that's where I'm like, Okay,
130
00:06:38.160 --> 00:06:42.959
that's where I'm naturally more drawn to. And but it's
131
00:06:42.959 --> 00:06:47.360
been a continual education in terms of business and understanding
132
00:06:47.600 --> 00:06:54.439
the shift between being an entrepreneur and being an artist and.
133
00:06:55.000 --> 00:06:58.040
How do those fit together and fit separately.
134
00:06:59.079 --> 00:07:01.360
Now, I think that's the beauty said And even for
135
00:07:01.439 --> 00:07:03.439
the fact that you talked about the shift and for
136
00:07:03.519 --> 00:07:05.560
everybody that's tuned and you know, the show is all
137
00:07:05.600 --> 00:07:08.000
about shifting, so that I think it's perfect with the
138
00:07:08.040 --> 00:07:10.560
analogy or just how you're painting the picture on how
139
00:07:10.680 --> 00:07:13.720
you personally had to shift, and you talked about, you know,
140
00:07:13.759 --> 00:07:16.480
from the passion the artistry side to then Okay, well,
141
00:07:16.519 --> 00:07:18.519
now we gotta make money. This is my passion, this
142
00:07:18.600 --> 00:07:20.560
is my love. I'm great at it, but now I
143
00:07:20.600 --> 00:07:22.759
need to make money from it. But also, I think,
144
00:07:22.759 --> 00:07:26.959
as I hear you speak, process of elimination took place again.
145
00:07:27.160 --> 00:07:29.279
You was doing some PA work, but she was like, no,
146
00:07:29.560 --> 00:07:32.240
this isn't for me. I think that's profound. Here's why
147
00:07:32.240 --> 00:07:35.120
I say that, because sometimes people can get stuck in
148
00:07:35.160 --> 00:07:38.199
a role in their life. It's not feeding them, it's
149
00:07:38.199 --> 00:07:41.360
not fulfilling, it's not providing the resources funding that they need.
150
00:07:41.560 --> 00:07:43.720
But they just saying it because they were told, well,
151
00:07:43.800 --> 00:07:46.720
this is the typical order of things. But what I'm
152
00:07:46.720 --> 00:07:49.480
hearing from you, you may have heard that's the typical order.
153
00:07:49.519 --> 00:07:51.720
You tried it, but you realize it wasn't for you,
154
00:07:51.759 --> 00:07:54.000
and then you shifted. Yeah.
155
00:07:54.040 --> 00:07:56.279
I mean it was really quick. I actually had done
156
00:07:56.279 --> 00:07:59.319
a PA job before college. I worked it was very
157
00:07:59.399 --> 00:08:03.319
fortunate to work on a feature film like at eighteen,
158
00:08:04.120 --> 00:08:06.800
and really quickly in those six weeks that I was
159
00:08:06.839 --> 00:08:10.439
on set, was like I never want to do this,
160
00:08:12.120 --> 00:08:15.759
and look, I made great money for an eighteen year old.
161
00:08:16.240 --> 00:08:19.560
I was making bank doing it. In those six weeks.
162
00:08:19.560 --> 00:08:25.600
I was like, oh, okay, But I always I never
163
00:08:25.639 --> 00:08:29.680
cared about the money. I because I I don't know,
164
00:08:30.079 --> 00:08:34.120
I had been around and look, I'm very fortunate to
165
00:08:34.200 --> 00:08:38.480
have grown up around some money and in an upper
166
00:08:38.480 --> 00:08:40.320
middle class, upper class and.
167
00:08:41.720 --> 00:08:44.440
When you the biggest advantage I.
168
00:08:46.519 --> 00:08:48.600
Say, when people ask me, like, what was the advantage
169
00:08:48.600 --> 00:08:52.039
of growing up in that lifestyle was you see, money
170
00:08:52.039 --> 00:08:58.159
can't be made and if you're just smart enough and
171
00:08:58.159 --> 00:09:00.399
and you just kind of figure out how to the
172
00:09:00.440 --> 00:09:02.720
dots like, you can make money, and you can make
173
00:09:03.000 --> 00:09:05.320
a lot of money. And there was no ceiling to money.
174
00:09:05.519 --> 00:09:08.039
Money is just energy. It comes in, it comes out,
175
00:09:08.120 --> 00:09:13.320
it needs to move. And if you're provide a service
176
00:09:13.559 --> 00:09:14.480
or a product that's.
177
00:09:14.399 --> 00:09:16.279
Valuable enough, you will make money.
178
00:09:17.000 --> 00:09:20.879
And so being that, my parents are, yes, the artists,
179
00:09:20.919 --> 00:09:24.679
but because of that, they're entrepreneurs. You know, they worked
180
00:09:24.679 --> 00:09:29.120
for themselves, they created their own companies. That I was like, oh,
181
00:09:29.240 --> 00:09:31.360
you you can create your own company.
182
00:09:31.399 --> 00:09:32.480
You can be the boss.
183
00:09:33.440 --> 00:09:38.720
And it was so I always I was around that,
184
00:09:39.759 --> 00:09:41.720
you know, I mean to be blunt, the opposite of
185
00:09:41.799 --> 00:09:45.320
like my wife, for example, whose parents, you know, work
186
00:09:45.399 --> 00:09:49.519
for others and weren't particularly that. So she was always
187
00:09:49.559 --> 00:09:52.639
used to more of a safety security net until her
188
00:09:52.720 --> 00:09:56.440
and I meant it started dating. She was like, oh, okay,
189
00:09:56.639 --> 00:10:01.559
I see that, and I've you know, to see you know,
190
00:10:01.600 --> 00:10:03.279
I love that you call it the shift, but like
191
00:10:03.320 --> 00:10:07.519
to see her shift, And it is so important to
192
00:10:08.279 --> 00:10:13.240
who you are around has such such a.
193
00:10:16.399 --> 00:10:19.000
Impact on how you think and how you operate.
194
00:10:19.799 --> 00:10:22.960
And even recently, you know, I'm in my thirties now
195
00:10:23.000 --> 00:10:25.559
and I, you know, was around a friend that I
196
00:10:25.639 --> 00:10:29.120
mentioned something and he gave me kind of an interesting comment.
197
00:10:29.159 --> 00:10:33.720
I'm like, oh, but again compared to another friend who
198
00:10:33.720 --> 00:10:35.720
I said a similar thing to and gave me the
199
00:10:35.759 --> 00:10:37.120
complete opposite reaction of fots.
200
00:10:37.120 --> 00:10:40.639
Oh yeah, that's awesome. And it's just that mindset around
201
00:10:40.720 --> 00:10:43.639
who you're around matters so much.
202
00:10:44.519 --> 00:10:48.120
Yeah, No, a mindset is everything. Who you're around, your association,
203
00:10:48.879 --> 00:10:52.559
the shift, even in your relationship with your wife and
204
00:10:52.600 --> 00:10:55.200
as you always dating, I think it's so important the
205
00:10:55.200 --> 00:10:58.440
conversation that we're having with others, but also talk about
206
00:10:58.480 --> 00:11:01.000
the conversation that you have to have with you because
207
00:11:01.000 --> 00:11:05.200
as you're on this entrepreneurship journey, how can an entrepreneur
208
00:11:05.279 --> 00:11:08.039
stay motivated? Because to your point, it can be ups
209
00:11:08.039 --> 00:11:09.679
and downs, it could be a lot of things going on,
210
00:11:10.039 --> 00:11:14.960
So how can an entrepreneur? How have you stayed motivated?
211
00:11:15.960 --> 00:11:18.240
It's silly as it is like when I first got
212
00:11:18.240 --> 00:11:21.480
into the entrepreneurship game and learning entrepreneurship, they you know,
213
00:11:21.679 --> 00:11:24.080
every mentor every you know conference.
214
00:11:24.120 --> 00:11:27.559
I went to the thing everyone said and.
215
00:11:27.559 --> 00:11:31.879
I absolutely hated it. I rejected it. I fought it.
216
00:11:32.039 --> 00:11:34.600
I was like, you're an idiot.
217
00:11:34.320 --> 00:11:38.360
This even though they're you know, unbelievably successful, they were
218
00:11:38.399 --> 00:11:41.240
all it's eighty percent mindset, twenty percent tactics.
219
00:11:41.440 --> 00:11:43.360
And I was like, I don't know if we're allowed
220
00:11:43.360 --> 00:11:46.759
to cut curse, but you know all of the curse words,
221
00:11:47.600 --> 00:11:47.799
you know.
222
00:11:48.799 --> 00:11:54.120
And as I've now you know, been doing this for
223
00:11:54.360 --> 00:11:59.399
well over a decade, it is the mindset.
224
00:11:59.519 --> 00:12:02.519
It is the and like, you know, what has.
225
00:12:02.440 --> 00:12:06.600
Got me through it. It has been the you know,
226
00:12:07.120 --> 00:12:11.080
self belief. No, I am going to be successful. The
227
00:12:11.159 --> 00:12:14.480
days are down, No, just keep going, work a little harder,
228
00:12:15.200 --> 00:12:18.720
work a little harder. Keep No, I will be successful.
229
00:12:18.720 --> 00:12:22.960
And it and it it's what's the phrase. I think
230
00:12:23.240 --> 00:12:29.399
it was delusionally optimistic, which is true any any artist,
231
00:12:29.519 --> 00:12:35.200
any entrepreneur, anybody who's successful. There's an aspect of they
232
00:12:35.240 --> 00:12:40.799
are delusionally optimistic that they will be successful. And you know,
233
00:12:40.919 --> 00:12:43.480
there was a line that I heard from Tom Cruise
234
00:12:43.840 --> 00:12:46.759
which was I don't tell other people my goals.
235
00:12:48.200 --> 00:12:50.360
Basically to never.
236
00:12:50.200 --> 00:12:53.399
Allow them to give any evaluation of it, like ohka,
237
00:12:53.480 --> 00:12:55.759
are you sure you can do that or any invalidation
238
00:12:55.879 --> 00:12:56.799
of hm.
239
00:12:56.919 --> 00:12:59.039
I don't think you can do that. That's not achievable.
240
00:12:59.519 --> 00:12:59.720
You know.
241
00:12:59.759 --> 00:13:01.919
Like I had a buddy of mine and I had
242
00:13:01.960 --> 00:13:05.840
to catch myself and after I regretted any everything I said,
243
00:13:05.879 --> 00:13:08.919
because he was like, yeah, you know, I want to
244
00:13:08.919 --> 00:13:11.440
do this with this influencer and this celebrity and like
245
00:13:11.600 --> 00:13:14.039
these are my five ten year goals. And I was like, well,
246
00:13:14.080 --> 00:13:16.000
you know, if you look at that, like he hasn't
247
00:13:16.039 --> 00:13:18.519
done anything like that influencer doesn't endorse things like this,
248
00:13:19.159 --> 00:13:20.519
and like, you know, I don't want to put any
249
00:13:20.600 --> 00:13:22.600
like negative Like even though I was like in the
250
00:13:22.639 --> 00:13:24.480
moment already being like I don't want to put any
251
00:13:24.519 --> 00:13:27.360
negative vibes or any I was even after I was
252
00:13:27.360 --> 00:13:29.720
like why I even say that at all? I should
253
00:13:29.759 --> 00:13:33.960
have just said, hell, yeah, man, I love that, even
254
00:13:34.000 --> 00:13:36.519
though I'm like that celebrity would probably never endorse this
255
00:13:36.600 --> 00:13:40.480
type of product. But I didn't need to give that
256
00:13:40.559 --> 00:13:44.360
evaluation in you know, and in those thoughts in his
257
00:13:44.480 --> 00:13:48.879
universe because and because I don't want that type of
258
00:13:49.000 --> 00:13:53.159
energy back to me. And it's like catching yourself, and
259
00:13:53.200 --> 00:13:55.720
it's just being hyper aware of that people around you,
260
00:13:56.440 --> 00:14:00.840
of who give you that Like I'm unbelie pievably fortunate
261
00:14:00.960 --> 00:14:05.519
that my entire family is unbelievably supportive in my ventures
262
00:14:06.279 --> 00:14:09.799
and where I'm unbelievably supportive in their ventures, you know,
263
00:14:09.840 --> 00:14:15.240
And I recognize how rare that is to have a close.
264
00:14:16.559 --> 00:14:18.960
Of a bond we all have and have that.
265
00:14:18.960 --> 00:14:22.320
Relationship, and likewise with my wife, with my spouse, where
266
00:14:22.720 --> 00:14:25.960
you know, arguably the most important decision one will ever
267
00:14:26.000 --> 00:14:28.960
make is their spouse, and you have to be so
268
00:14:29.159 --> 00:14:32.120
locked in on that same goal, on that same that
269
00:14:32.320 --> 00:14:35.480
you have that agreement we're going for these goals.
270
00:14:35.679 --> 00:14:38.360
Yeah. No, I think that's so powerful.
271
00:14:38.399 --> 00:14:42.559
Even as you're mentioning about the family unit, your connection
272
00:14:42.679 --> 00:14:45.320
and relationship with your wife and then your parents and
273
00:14:45.320 --> 00:14:48.159
then your you know, family members. O.
274
00:14:48.480 --> 00:14:50.879
I'm the oldest of four kids and we all have
275
00:14:51.240 --> 00:14:53.879
you know, significant others. So you know, we go to dinner,
276
00:14:53.919 --> 00:14:57.720
it's a reservation for ten now and actually my youngest
277
00:14:57.720 --> 00:14:59.440
brother actually just now had a child, and so it's
278
00:14:59.440 --> 00:15:01.399
a reservation for eleven technical days.
279
00:15:02.720 --> 00:15:05.039
Yeah, I think that's beautiful.
280
00:15:05.120 --> 00:15:07.279
And for those that are listening and those that are watching,
281
00:15:07.320 --> 00:15:10.120
I think these are all principles that we can take
282
00:15:10.159 --> 00:15:13.399
in and say, how can we take this conversation back
283
00:15:13.440 --> 00:15:15.559
to our families? Right, So, I think you're painting a
284
00:15:15.559 --> 00:15:19.360
beautiful picture between the business side, entrepreneurship, but also family.
285
00:15:19.799 --> 00:15:23.000
You know, because that is what I'm hearing from you
286
00:15:23.440 --> 00:15:25.519
is a huge piece of your puzzle in your life
287
00:15:26.600 --> 00:15:30.720
and everything dealing with strategic collaboration network who powers the shift.
288
00:15:30.759 --> 00:15:33.279
We love puzzle pieces because we truly believe that we're
289
00:15:33.279 --> 00:15:36.639
all interconnected together. And even as you're sharing about your
290
00:15:36.679 --> 00:15:40.200
family unit, y'all are all interconnected together. And when I
291
00:15:40.240 --> 00:15:42.399
was on your LinkedIn page, you talked about a decade
292
00:15:42.399 --> 00:15:44.559
and when I noticed that on your LinkedIn page, and
293
00:15:44.559 --> 00:15:47.360
for those that are watching, I encourage you to go
294
00:15:47.399 --> 00:15:49.360
to his page. But I'm just gonna read another snippet
295
00:15:49.360 --> 00:15:52.480
that I saw and mentioned. Over the past decade, Jake
296
00:15:52.639 --> 00:15:55.720
worked with more than one hundred and fifty entrepreneurs and companies,
297
00:15:55.960 --> 00:16:01.559
including Grant Cardone Callaway, and so many other Travis Matthew
298
00:16:02.120 --> 00:16:05.440
talk about your you know what was those experiences.
299
00:16:04.879 --> 00:16:09.399
Like, I mean, everyone unique and different, and you know,
300
00:16:09.720 --> 00:16:13.759
each he just had their own interesting story, you know.
301
00:16:15.360 --> 00:16:18.960
I mean, it's very fun to work with bigger and
302
00:16:19.000 --> 00:16:23.080
bigger brands, bigger and bigger entrepreneurs because again, like as
303
00:16:23.080 --> 00:16:25.840
we kind of talked about earlier, which was you start
304
00:16:25.879 --> 00:16:30.919
to see how the people above you operate and how
305
00:16:31.200 --> 00:16:33.639
you know, working with a company like Travis Matthew and
306
00:16:33.639 --> 00:16:39.159
seeing like they're planning clothes two years from now, they're
307
00:16:39.159 --> 00:16:45.200
having strategic discussions two years ahead. You're seeing you know,
308
00:16:45.240 --> 00:16:48.399
working with Grants, seeing the way his team operates around
309
00:16:48.480 --> 00:16:54.279
him to facilitate his extreme optimization on how he gets
310
00:16:54.279 --> 00:16:57.519
things done. You know, where people's like, oh that's successive.
311
00:16:57.559 --> 00:17:01.000
It's like, well the man is I guess civillionaire, and
312
00:17:01.080 --> 00:17:04.920
you know, his time needs to be optimized.
313
00:17:05.000 --> 00:17:06.759
And so you see these different.
314
00:17:08.480 --> 00:17:11.799
Companies and these different entrepreneurs work in a different way,
315
00:17:11.920 --> 00:17:15.160
and you don't see that unless you're around it. And
316
00:17:15.240 --> 00:17:18.359
so that's been arguably kind of the coolest and most
317
00:17:18.359 --> 00:17:22.000
informative thing with working with the you know, eight nine
318
00:17:22.119 --> 00:17:26.480
ten figure brands, the millionaires, and you know a couple
319
00:17:26.480 --> 00:17:29.559
of billionaires I've been able, very very fortunate to be around.
320
00:17:30.440 --> 00:17:31.759
Yeah, and so what I'm.
321
00:17:31.680 --> 00:17:34.200
Hearing from you, you you was able to extract principles
322
00:17:34.200 --> 00:17:38.200
from them and how they operate in their business model,
323
00:17:38.519 --> 00:17:41.799
planning ahead, thinking future, you know, not just in the
324
00:17:41.839 --> 00:17:44.039
current moment. And for those that are watching right now,
325
00:17:44.079 --> 00:17:47.240
for those that have businesses, you're an entrepreneur, you may
326
00:17:47.319 --> 00:17:50.599
have a team of your own with your company, where
327
00:17:50.680 --> 00:17:52.880
are you going in the next two years? I think
328
00:17:52.920 --> 00:17:55.480
this is a you know, rhetorical question that we all
329
00:17:55.559 --> 00:17:56.960
can think about the.
330
00:17:56.880 --> 00:17:58.559
Next two years. What will it look like?
331
00:17:58.720 --> 00:18:00.799
You know, twenty twenty seven is be here before we
332
00:18:00.839 --> 00:18:03.640
blink our eye twenty twenty eight? Where do you see
333
00:18:03.680 --> 00:18:06.759
yourself right? Where do you see yourself growing to? I
334
00:18:06.880 --> 00:18:11.680
notice also on your LinkedIn profile it talked about you
335
00:18:11.759 --> 00:18:15.839
focus on deep marketing strategy. Talk a little bit about
336
00:18:15.839 --> 00:18:17.480
that when you're working with someone.
337
00:18:18.559 --> 00:18:23.079
Well, so I work a lot as a consulting creative director,
338
00:18:23.319 --> 00:18:26.799
where you know, basically they're in charge of kind of
339
00:18:26.839 --> 00:18:32.519
the the creative vision of the marketing plan. And so
340
00:18:32.799 --> 00:18:35.319
when I kind of step in there and I work
341
00:18:35.359 --> 00:18:37.519
with you know, cmos or I work with, you know,
342
00:18:37.640 --> 00:18:42.640
heads of marketing, basically helping kind of execute.
343
00:18:42.759 --> 00:18:43.759
What that vision is.
344
00:18:43.799 --> 00:18:47.039
And you know, working with these guys and seeing like, Okay, hey,
345
00:18:47.200 --> 00:18:48.960
this is what we want to achieve this year, but
346
00:18:49.319 --> 00:18:52.000
it needs to be in line with our five, ten,
347
00:18:52.160 --> 00:18:57.480
twenty year goal for the company, you know, and everybody's
348
00:18:57.519 --> 00:19:00.119
again a little bit different, but you know, it come
349
00:19:00.319 --> 00:19:02.720
down to so much is just attention.
350
00:19:03.559 --> 00:19:06.680
You know, you to win, you just need It's a
351
00:19:06.720 --> 00:19:07.839
game of attention.
352
00:19:10.079 --> 00:19:13.240
And you know, I thought, piggyback on what you just said.
353
00:19:13.720 --> 00:19:16.720
I see another excerpt from your LinkedIn profile and I
354
00:19:16.759 --> 00:19:19.279
really want you to expand on this because I think
355
00:19:19.279 --> 00:19:23.880
it's interesting. It says you help entrepreneurs to cut through
356
00:19:23.920 --> 00:19:28.960
the noise by crafting content that builds trust, drives visibility,
357
00:19:29.359 --> 00:19:33.920
and creates true omnipresence across platforms. Kind of piggybacking on
358
00:19:33.920 --> 00:19:35.799
what you were just saying, But I think that's important
359
00:19:35.799 --> 00:19:38.279
because there's a lot of things that can be put
360
00:19:38.319 --> 00:19:40.440
on social media, that can be put on our website,
361
00:19:40.640 --> 00:19:43.039
but is it connected, does it have a layered approach?
362
00:19:43.240 --> 00:19:45.039
And how do you cut through the noise?
363
00:19:47.160 --> 00:19:50.000
Well, I mean what you're asking is a multi multi
364
00:19:50.039 --> 00:19:55.640
part Okay, you know I want to kind of tackle Yeah. So,
365
00:19:55.720 --> 00:19:58.440
I mean you can say the first thing is is, like.
366
00:20:00.519 --> 00:20:02.279
You know, because you hear it a lot from if
367
00:20:02.319 --> 00:20:04.319
people are in the marketing space or they're you know,
368
00:20:04.480 --> 00:20:07.519
listening to marketing podcasts marketing.
369
00:20:07.200 --> 00:20:12.240
Gurus, you could say this aspect of be on brand,
370
00:20:12.319 --> 00:20:16.799
what's your brand? And this word brand? Right? Branding on brand?
371
00:20:17.599 --> 00:20:20.279
You know, oh no, that's off brand, Like what does
372
00:20:20.319 --> 00:20:23.680
that mean? Well? Brand?
373
00:20:24.200 --> 00:20:26.599
If you just take the word, I'm just gonna, you know,
374
00:20:26.720 --> 00:20:30.880
do a little marketing lesson right now if you don't mind.
375
00:20:31.200 --> 00:20:33.519
You know, is an identifiable mark?
376
00:20:33.920 --> 00:20:34.079
Right?
377
00:20:34.119 --> 00:20:36.440
If you just think of it like cattle or horse
378
00:20:36.519 --> 00:20:39.279
on a ranch on a farm, you have an identifiable mark.
379
00:20:39.319 --> 00:20:43.079
You go, oh, that owns you know, that ranch owns
380
00:20:43.079 --> 00:20:48.839
that horse or that cattle or that animal. So you
381
00:20:48.920 --> 00:20:53.200
want to look at, you know, the brands that we
382
00:20:53.319 --> 00:20:56.960
recognize as they have an identifiable what you instantly go,
383
00:20:57.759 --> 00:21:00.839
that's who they are, right? And I just saw a
384
00:21:01.200 --> 00:21:06.599
great clip from the First Million Podcasts talking about Alex Hermosi.
385
00:21:06.920 --> 00:21:09.359
When they had him on the podcast. They said, okay,
386
00:21:09.799 --> 00:21:13.519
well what is your brand? And he's like business which
387
00:21:13.960 --> 00:21:16.680
they were talking about how where They're like when you
388
00:21:16.720 --> 00:21:17.680
first hear that, you go.
389
00:21:17.920 --> 00:21:19.720
What are you talking about that? That's such a.
390
00:21:19.759 --> 00:21:22.279
Large thing, Like no, no, no, you got to like hone
391
00:21:22.279 --> 00:21:26.799
in niche down and he's like, no, I want when
392
00:21:26.880 --> 00:21:32.519
somebody thinks about business, they think about me, Like.
393
00:21:32.880 --> 00:21:35.119
That is how big?
394
00:21:35.400 --> 00:21:37.839
Again we're talking He's not trying to do this in
395
00:21:37.839 --> 00:21:39.759
a year, in two years, five years, He's like, this
396
00:21:39.920 --> 00:21:43.519
is a lifetime, you know. In a similar way, where
397
00:21:43.799 --> 00:21:46.279
again he referenced like Grant Cardon, it was like when
398
00:21:46.319 --> 00:21:49.039
people think of Grant cardone, they think real estate, and
399
00:21:49.079 --> 00:21:51.640
they think real estate, they think Grant Cardon, Like that's
400
00:21:51.680 --> 00:21:56.559
the level of association, you know, or Ryan seahand where
401
00:21:56.880 --> 00:22:01.599
real estate agent Ryan seahand like they're building that brand.
402
00:22:01.640 --> 00:22:06.440
You think athletics, you think Nike, you think then arguably
403
00:22:06.480 --> 00:22:09.119
before Adidas, before under Armour.
404
00:22:11.200 --> 00:22:14.480
So it's the.
405
00:22:14.839 --> 00:22:17.079
Thing that I try to first do is what is
406
00:22:17.200 --> 00:22:21.480
let's be on brand. Let's make sure our messaging is consistent, right,
407
00:22:21.559 --> 00:22:23.200
So like what do you want to be known for?
408
00:22:24.559 --> 00:22:26.640
Really simply what do you want to be known for?
409
00:22:27.240 --> 00:22:31.000
And then it's I don't know if I'm on not
410
00:22:31.119 --> 00:22:33.319
to curse, but I unfortunately throw in a lot of
411
00:22:33.519 --> 00:22:38.319
f words to add emphasis as a true American, you know,
412
00:22:38.920 --> 00:22:41.039
but don't effing change it.
413
00:22:42.559 --> 00:22:44.160
Stay on the path.
414
00:22:44.279 --> 00:22:50.880
It's slow, it's fast, doesn't matter, say stay on the path, picket.
415
00:22:51.480 --> 00:22:54.559
And because the easiest thing to do is change, the
416
00:22:54.920 --> 00:22:57.920
hardest thing to do, the absolute hardest thing to do
417
00:22:58.160 --> 00:23:00.680
is not to change. And this is coming from somebody
418
00:23:01.799 --> 00:23:07.920
who is arguably the most guilty of changing. And this
419
00:23:08.079 --> 00:23:11.119
is one hundred percent the pot calling the kettle black.
420
00:23:11.160 --> 00:23:13.599
And I want one hundred percent admit it. Take me
421
00:23:13.640 --> 00:23:16.359
to jail type, you know, all of it. I am
422
00:23:16.400 --> 00:23:20.599
the absolute worst of changing because I didn't see success.
423
00:23:20.799 --> 00:23:25.519
It's not growing, and I've you know, struggled, and so
424
00:23:25.599 --> 00:23:28.240
I tried to, you know, say it from the standpoint
425
00:23:28.279 --> 00:23:33.079
of I've learned the hard lessons I've suffered because of it.
426
00:23:33.319 --> 00:23:37.079
And so the first thing is, you know, pick the brand,
427
00:23:37.559 --> 00:23:41.319
stay on brand. And usually it's relatively for the most part,
428
00:23:41.359 --> 00:23:45.160
like internally, yes, I've changed. Externally, people were like, what
429
00:23:45.200 --> 00:23:47.240
are you talking about. You've always done the kind of
430
00:23:47.279 --> 00:23:50.000
the same thing, and I have, you know, I've had
431
00:23:50.119 --> 00:23:52.039
internal freakouts and shifts and.
432
00:23:52.119 --> 00:23:52.640
This and that.
433
00:23:52.920 --> 00:23:54.200
But you know, so.
434
00:23:56.000 --> 00:23:58.440
You know, if you're a lawyer, You're typically just going
435
00:23:58.480 --> 00:24:00.440
to be a lawyer for the rest of your life,
436
00:24:00.480 --> 00:24:04.240
and so talk about that. And so cutting through the
437
00:24:04.240 --> 00:24:08.759
noise is usually you first gotta to cut through the noise.
438
00:24:08.759 --> 00:24:10.880
You've gotta it takes steps. You first got to just
439
00:24:10.920 --> 00:24:15.680
start putting stuff out there, and you typically find out
440
00:24:15.799 --> 00:24:20.880
what works by just doing volume. You know, I have
441
00:24:20.920 --> 00:24:26.680
a client who we were starting post content and again
442
00:24:26.759 --> 00:24:28.960
you have to do such volume to go what cuts
443
00:24:28.960 --> 00:24:32.960
through the noise? Yes, there are previous to that, to
444
00:24:33.039 --> 00:24:35.640
go what are the things to help unlock what works?
445
00:24:36.279 --> 00:24:43.480
Is controversy obviously, being semi controversial or fully controversial obviously
446
00:24:43.559 --> 00:24:47.680
is going to create engagement. In terms of scripting, your
447
00:24:47.720 --> 00:24:52.799
hook the first three seconds, the you know, going all right, guys,
448
00:24:52.880 --> 00:24:55.759
So being you know, more talkative, you could you know,
449
00:24:55.839 --> 00:24:59.440
the influencer voice speed at which you talk like. These
450
00:24:59.480 --> 00:25:02.799
are little things that can improve how to cut through
451
00:25:02.799 --> 00:25:06.200
the noise. But the biggest thing that I always tell
452
00:25:06.200 --> 00:25:10.240
people it's like is being on brand. What do you
453
00:25:10.279 --> 00:25:13.240
want like if you were to go viral and you
454
00:25:13.319 --> 00:25:16.240
hear YouTube coaches talk about this all the time, which
455
00:25:16.279 --> 00:25:19.839
is if you were to go viral for one thing,
456
00:25:20.559 --> 00:25:23.000
because usually that thing that goes viral will go viral
457
00:25:23.039 --> 00:25:24.920
again and you're gonna have to double down on it.
458
00:25:25.079 --> 00:25:28.640
So what's the thing you want to go viral for?
459
00:25:30.960 --> 00:25:34.960
Just keep doing that? Yeah, don't because you will go
460
00:25:35.079 --> 00:25:40.440
viral like I. You know, if you just do it enough,
461
00:25:40.599 --> 00:25:43.680
you will go viral. Something will go viral. And like
462
00:25:43.799 --> 00:25:46.200
I have, you can say the opposite story of friend
463
00:25:46.240 --> 00:25:49.400
of mine who's a musician. I was putting out the music,
464
00:25:49.440 --> 00:25:51.440
putting out the music, putting in the music, and then
465
00:25:51.480 --> 00:25:53.640
they have a camper van and they do the van
466
00:25:53.720 --> 00:25:56.400
life and one of their van life videos went viral.
467
00:25:57.559 --> 00:26:01.559
Guess what happens the audience, It just wants fan life videos.
468
00:26:01.680 --> 00:26:06.559
They don't care about the music. I had the same
469
00:26:06.599 --> 00:26:09.519
thing with me during COVID. I was just like, ah,
470
00:26:09.720 --> 00:26:12.519
TikTok's new. I guess I'm a millennial. I guess I'll
471
00:26:12.519 --> 00:26:15.640
get on this TikTok train. And my dog went viral
472
00:26:15.720 --> 00:26:23.279
ten million views. Anything about my photography, my filmmaking, nobody cared.
473
00:26:24.000 --> 00:26:27.640
I post my dog did another dog video, another million views.
474
00:26:28.200 --> 00:26:30.480
Post another dog video another two million views, another half
475
00:26:30.519 --> 00:26:36.480
million reviews. Post a filmmaking or photography video, twenty views,
476
00:26:38.079 --> 00:26:41.119
a couple thousand views, but like I grew two hundred
477
00:26:41.160 --> 00:26:44.359
thousand followers in like two months because of my dog.
478
00:26:45.079 --> 00:26:46.759
But I was like, I don't want to be a
479
00:26:46.880 --> 00:26:51.880
dog dad influencer person, right, I didn't want to do that,
480
00:26:55.480 --> 00:27:04.119
and I went viral for the wrong reasons. So your
481
00:27:04.200 --> 00:27:07.079
jury might be slower, it might be bigger, you know real.
482
00:27:07.200 --> 00:27:08.799
And then the last thing I tell people is like,
483
00:27:08.839 --> 00:27:12.640
look like a lot of small businesses that I consult
484
00:27:12.680 --> 00:27:15.400
or talk with or even work with, I go, you know,
485
00:27:16.720 --> 00:27:20.759
let's take a local plumbing company. What is their total
486
00:27:20.839 --> 00:27:24.880
adjustable market that they're going to serve. Let's say Los Angeles, right,
487
00:27:27.039 --> 00:27:29.200
which is where I live. It's a big city, it's
488
00:27:29.240 --> 00:27:34.519
got three million people. Let's say out of that it's
489
00:27:35.839 --> 00:27:40.599
half a million homes. You're going to service half a
490
00:27:40.839 --> 00:27:43.319
or you're gonna even service half a million homes. No,
491
00:27:45.119 --> 00:27:50.359
you're going to service maybe five thousand a year. I
492
00:27:50.400 --> 00:27:53.759
mean that's five thousand a year. That's three hundred and
493
00:27:53.799 --> 00:27:58.799
sixty five houses with one of your team members doing
494
00:27:58.839 --> 00:28:01.000
it a day, every single day.
495
00:28:01.119 --> 00:28:05.680
Christmas included the three hundred and sixty five homes.
496
00:28:06.039 --> 00:28:09.759
If you have two plumbers, now you're at seven hundred replumbers.
497
00:28:09.880 --> 00:28:11.519
Now you're at a thousand homes.
498
00:28:13.559 --> 00:28:17.519
Yeah, you don't need videos to get a million views.
499
00:28:20.279 --> 00:28:21.960
And this is the shift I tried to tell people.
500
00:28:22.000 --> 00:28:26.240
You don't need to go viral, you need the right audience.
501
00:28:26.480 --> 00:28:31.039
So cutting through the noise is not going viral. Cutting
502
00:28:31.039 --> 00:28:36.279
through the noise is getting the right audience to go, oh,
503
00:28:36.599 --> 00:28:41.160
they're my solution. That's what I've been looking for because
504
00:28:41.200 --> 00:28:43.559
I always talk to business owners and I go, look,
505
00:28:43.599 --> 00:28:47.599
you're not being an entertainer. Entertainers need millions of views
506
00:28:47.599 --> 00:28:50.440
because they get paid by millions of views. They get
507
00:28:50.440 --> 00:28:53.839
paid by their reviews, whether via brand deals, ad sense,
508
00:28:53.880 --> 00:28:56.839
et cetera. That's how they're getting paid. If you're a
509
00:28:56.920 --> 00:28:58.200
local service business, you're not.
510
00:28:58.119 --> 00:29:00.160
Getting paid by views.
511
00:29:00.680 --> 00:29:02.640
You just want your phone to ringk So you need
512
00:29:02.680 --> 00:29:06.279
to make content that's going to help make your phone ring,
513
00:29:06.599 --> 00:29:11.680
which is not entertainment content. It can be entertaining, but
514
00:29:11.759 --> 00:29:13.519
a lot of people who are gonna watch entertaining videos
515
00:29:13.559 --> 00:29:15.119
and they go, oh, cool to wipe up.
516
00:29:18.559 --> 00:29:21.240
I love the fact that you're just straight, no fluff.
517
00:29:21.480 --> 00:29:23.720
You just you know, putting the cars on the table, really,
518
00:29:23.759 --> 00:29:27.680
because you know, I think sometimes with social media people
519
00:29:27.720 --> 00:29:30.599
can make people feel pressure. Did you go viral yet?
520
00:29:30.799 --> 00:29:34.079
Question Mark? Right, well does your business go viral? And
521
00:29:34.119 --> 00:29:37.200
I think you beautifully explain what does cutting through the
522
00:29:37.240 --> 00:29:38.599
noise even mean.
523
00:29:39.039 --> 00:29:40.960
And breaking down viral.
524
00:29:42.599 --> 00:29:46.079
And not going viral, and where it makes sense and
525
00:29:46.119 --> 00:29:48.359
for what type of business, what type of industry.
526
00:29:49.000 --> 00:29:52.160
And you know, look, there are definitely clients that I
527
00:29:52.240 --> 00:29:55.640
have who need and want to go viral, who want
528
00:29:55.680 --> 00:29:58.240
to go viral, but also like, for what we're doing,
529
00:29:58.640 --> 00:30:01.039
have to go viral because of what we're doing is
530
00:30:01.480 --> 00:30:07.200
gaining general awareness. Right, We're not looking to sell a
531
00:30:07.279 --> 00:30:12.039
local service. They're looking to gain awareness and become an influencer.
532
00:30:12.440 --> 00:30:15.000
You know, I have a book and I'm trying to
533
00:30:15.000 --> 00:30:18.319
get my book and my message out there. You know,
534
00:30:18.440 --> 00:30:21.400
I want to do more speaking gigs. Well, that person
535
00:30:21.519 --> 00:30:22.839
needs to gain more views.
536
00:30:24.160 --> 00:30:27.799
They have to. That is their business. You know. It
537
00:30:28.759 --> 00:30:32.680
makes sense exactly, and it's and it's that's why not
538
00:30:32.839 --> 00:30:34.160
people are like, oh, well what should I do?
539
00:30:34.200 --> 00:30:37.799
It's like, well, not every strategy fits one.
540
00:30:37.920 --> 00:30:41.079
It's very different, you know, and.
541
00:30:42.720 --> 00:30:44.880
But it's again knowing the brand at the end of
542
00:30:44.920 --> 00:30:48.559
the day, just staying on brand, you know, it is
543
00:30:48.920 --> 00:30:51.599
what matters. There's a mentor of mine who you know,
544
00:30:51.759 --> 00:30:55.519
had a colleague that they worked with who had I
545
00:30:55.559 --> 00:30:59.119
think a couple of thousand Instagram followers. Their videos never
546
00:30:59.160 --> 00:31:02.119
got more than a thousand and views. They were making
547
00:31:02.160 --> 00:31:07.359
over a million dollars all via Instagram because they serviced
548
00:31:07.559 --> 00:31:11.559
a very specific Niche answered very specific questions on social
549
00:31:11.599 --> 00:31:15.039
media and got those people to go Oh, got into
550
00:31:15.079 --> 00:31:18.839
the DMS boom sale sale, sales sale because her services
551
00:31:18.839 --> 00:31:21.680
were like, you know, thirty to fifty thousand dollars a pop.
552
00:31:24.200 --> 00:31:25.960
Yeah, listen.
553
00:31:26.079 --> 00:31:27.880
For those that are tuned in, I think this is
554
00:31:28.000 --> 00:31:31.400
like a condensed version of a masterclass.
555
00:31:31.440 --> 00:31:32.759
That's what I'll say.
556
00:31:33.079 --> 00:31:35.440
Say so I appreciate that.
557
00:31:35.599 --> 00:31:36.680
I'll take the compliment.
558
00:31:37.079 --> 00:31:39.400
Yeah, because you're a straight shooting you're putting the cards
559
00:31:39.440 --> 00:31:40.960
on the table. And for those of you that are
560
00:31:40.960 --> 00:31:44.079
tuned in, you are tuned into the shift. I'm Catherine
561
00:31:44.160 --> 00:31:47.440
here with Jake with Creative Minds. He's the CEO of
562
00:31:47.480 --> 00:31:50.000
the company. He too, also has a podcast show, and
563
00:31:50.039 --> 00:31:51.519
I want him to talk about that, and also you
564
00:31:51.519 --> 00:31:54.079
should follow his podcast show. There was something else that
565
00:31:54.119 --> 00:31:56.200
I saw on your LinkedIn page. And as we wind
566
00:31:56.240 --> 00:31:58.720
down the segment, we can talk about this. It said
567
00:31:58.880 --> 00:32:02.920
collaboration and networking is the backbone of filmmaking and backbone
568
00:32:02.960 --> 00:32:07.720
of business overall. Too talk about networking, how you've navigated
569
00:32:07.759 --> 00:32:10.039
through different networking experiences.
570
00:32:12.119 --> 00:32:12.759
I think.
571
00:32:14.839 --> 00:32:17.240
I think networking is something that everybody is always figuring
572
00:32:17.279 --> 00:32:25.960
out the worst I'll go more on worst actions first.
573
00:32:26.079 --> 00:32:30.519
The worst actions is trying to get something from somebody.
574
00:32:30.680 --> 00:32:33.599
To be honest, the best action is be a freaking
575
00:32:33.680 --> 00:32:38.759
human being. Create Like, I look at networking as like,
576
00:32:39.000 --> 00:32:42.279
is this somebody I want as a friend, as a colleague?
577
00:32:43.519 --> 00:32:44.720
Do I like the person?
578
00:32:45.400 --> 00:32:50.480
If I go ooh, actually they could be a freaking trillionaire.
579
00:32:50.799 --> 00:32:52.880
But if I'm like, I don't actually like this person,
580
00:32:52.880 --> 00:32:55.240
they give me weird vibes, they like, they don't listen
581
00:32:55.279 --> 00:33:00.599
to me, they don't ask me any questions. This is
582
00:33:00.599 --> 00:33:04.839
not a relationship I want. If they don't, they don't
583
00:33:04.839 --> 00:33:08.240
grant me any importance. I'm like, this is gonna be
584
00:33:08.240 --> 00:33:10.960
a very one sided, weird relationship. You know, I have
585
00:33:11.119 --> 00:33:16.640
met a lot of successful people and on the flip side,
586
00:33:16.640 --> 00:33:21.799
it's like on that side, it's you know, like, how
587
00:33:21.839 --> 00:33:24.480
can you help them? And be like, oh, I'll get
588
00:33:24.480 --> 00:33:26.960
you coffee, And I love this from Alex Mosey's like
589
00:33:27.000 --> 00:33:29.480
getting me coffee, I have seventeen people who can do
590
00:33:29.519 --> 00:33:31.720
that in my company.
591
00:33:31.880 --> 00:33:34.279
That's not gonna help me. Me getting lunch with you
592
00:33:34.400 --> 00:33:38.039
is not gonna help me. Like, that's not.
593
00:33:39.759 --> 00:33:42.440
You know, yeah, shoot your shot and ask see if
594
00:33:42.480 --> 00:33:46.880
you can. You know, I've been very fortunate, but like that,
595
00:33:47.000 --> 00:33:47.640
you know, three.
596
00:33:47.480 --> 00:33:50.039
Degrees of separation, Hey do you know somebody? You know?
597
00:33:50.240 --> 00:33:52.680
Like I'm right now looking to fill a bunch of
598
00:33:52.720 --> 00:33:55.960
roles in my company. And so I literally went to
599
00:33:56.000 --> 00:33:58.559
my direct network and I was like, hey, I don't
600
00:33:58.559 --> 00:34:00.480
know if this is what you're doing these days, but like,
601
00:34:00.559 --> 00:34:02.759
this is what I'm looking for. And I had multiple
602
00:34:02.799 --> 00:34:04.559
people who went, no, that's not what I'm doing. And
603
00:34:04.599 --> 00:34:06.839
I go, great, who do you know? Because you do
604
00:34:06.960 --> 00:34:07.519
this role?
605
00:34:08.320 --> 00:34:10.880
Who do you know who does that? And then they're
606
00:34:10.880 --> 00:34:11.960
linking me up with people.
607
00:34:12.840 --> 00:34:16.320
And because of that, there's already that instant like oh
608
00:34:16.360 --> 00:34:17.760
you know this person, you know this person like you,
609
00:34:18.039 --> 00:34:20.760
we already know, we're kind of along that same wavelength
610
00:34:21.360 --> 00:34:24.599
of people, rather than like I don't know you at all,
611
00:34:25.079 --> 00:34:29.719
you know, so networking being and then there's an aspect
612
00:34:29.760 --> 00:34:32.320
of just like be willing to ask.
613
00:34:33.920 --> 00:34:37.079
And be willing to be You're putting me on.
614
00:34:37.000 --> 00:34:38.599
The spot of like these are This is not a
615
00:34:38.639 --> 00:34:41.199
question I typically get, So I'm like, oh, what are I?
616
00:34:41.719 --> 00:34:47.239
What have I done? That's successful? Arguably the hardest thing.
617
00:34:47.079 --> 00:34:50.639
That I've had to do, because it is for anybody
618
00:34:50.639 --> 00:34:53.679
who's ambitious, I think it comes.
619
00:34:54.519 --> 00:34:57.119
It's the opposite, which is to be humble.
620
00:34:59.119 --> 00:35:01.679
You know, to page out of Kendrick Lamar's book and
621
00:35:01.719 --> 00:35:04.840
you know, sit down, be humble. Uh.
622
00:35:05.239 --> 00:35:10.079
You know where you want to not look like the
623
00:35:10.119 --> 00:35:11.000
small guy in the room.
624
00:35:12.119 --> 00:35:15.639
Everybody who who is working on their business wanting to
625
00:35:15.920 --> 00:35:19.119
be big. You don't want to look like the least
626
00:35:19.159 --> 00:35:21.440
experienced guy in the room. You want to you wanna
627
00:35:21.679 --> 00:35:24.199
like no, no, no, yeah, yeah, I know my ship,
628
00:35:24.760 --> 00:35:25.760
Yeah it's.
629
00:35:25.800 --> 00:35:27.159
It's yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah.
630
00:35:27.199 --> 00:35:27.239
No.
631
00:35:27.320 --> 00:35:28.719
I'm legit. I'm legit.
632
00:35:29.519 --> 00:35:34.679
And the more you can confidently, I'm not saying don't
633
00:35:34.719 --> 00:35:35.320
be confident.
634
00:35:35.400 --> 00:35:36.480
What I'm saying is.
635
00:35:36.719 --> 00:35:40.760
You don't have to posture yourself and being like I
636
00:35:40.800 --> 00:35:44.039
have achieved what I've achieved, I'm looking to gain more.
637
00:35:44.760 --> 00:35:45.599
What can I learn?
638
00:35:47.079 --> 00:35:49.960
And the biggest power when talking to people is ask
639
00:35:50.119 --> 00:35:53.960
questions and shut up. The more questions you can ask
640
00:35:54.000 --> 00:35:56.519
and the to be honest, the less you can tell
641
00:35:56.559 --> 00:36:00.199
about yourself is a stronger skill set. Now there is
642
00:36:00.199 --> 00:36:02.480
a time and place to be able to be like, well,
643
00:36:02.559 --> 00:36:05.400
yes you know, let me tell.
644
00:36:05.239 --> 00:36:05.760
You about me.
645
00:36:06.239 --> 00:36:13.360
But as hard as it is, make sure your conversations
646
00:36:13.519 --> 00:36:20.159
are more questions and listening than self promotion and self grandizing.
647
00:36:22.079 --> 00:36:25.599
You've given network and a brand new definition. I feel
648
00:36:25.719 --> 00:36:28.800
just like when you were talking about branding, you gave
649
00:36:28.840 --> 00:36:32.039
it a beautiful definition. And same thing with the networking,
650
00:36:32.719 --> 00:36:35.719
because we know we need a network, but what is networking?
651
00:36:35.760 --> 00:36:36.960
And what I.
652
00:36:36.880 --> 00:36:40.599
Heard from you is you have to make sure whoever
653
00:36:40.639 --> 00:36:43.440
you're networking with, do you even genuinely connect.
654
00:36:43.119 --> 00:36:45.320
With this person. That was a big takeaway from.
655
00:36:45.119 --> 00:36:48.039
Me because sometimes you know, you could be in rooms
656
00:36:48.039 --> 00:36:50.480
and spaces or someone said, well you if you if
657
00:36:50.480 --> 00:36:52.480
you're gonna make it, you gotta make sure you know
658
00:36:52.599 --> 00:36:54.800
this person, but do you connect with that? That's one
659
00:36:54.840 --> 00:36:59.559
of my big takeaways as I heard you share. For
660
00:36:59.639 --> 00:37:05.000
those listening, listen, this has been an impromptu masterclass. So
661
00:37:05.320 --> 00:37:07.480
what I suggest for everyone to do is save this
662
00:37:07.519 --> 00:37:09.440
podcast and hit the replay. I know I'm going to
663
00:37:09.519 --> 00:37:11.440
hit the replay because I believe it's a lot of
664
00:37:11.519 --> 00:37:14.239
nuggets that we all can take away.
665
00:37:13.960 --> 00:37:15.000
From to implement.
666
00:37:15.639 --> 00:37:17.800
Third quarter's coming around. I mean, I'm sorry, the fourth
667
00:37:17.880 --> 00:37:19.519
quarter is going to be coming around the corner. How
668
00:37:19.559 --> 00:37:22.239
are we going to close out twenty twenty six? You know,
669
00:37:22.320 --> 00:37:24.960
we all got to be working on ourselves, and Jake
670
00:37:25.119 --> 00:37:29.679
is giving us, I believe, definitions, but principles, really principles
671
00:37:29.679 --> 00:37:33.480
that we can live by personally but also with our business.
672
00:37:33.519 --> 00:37:38.360
And you know, let's talk about one more jem drop
673
00:37:38.480 --> 00:37:40.679
will come on more because it's been the thing that
674
00:37:40.719 --> 00:37:43.480
I've been trying to tell myself recently, which is one
675
00:37:43.519 --> 00:37:45.599
percent better every day to make it into.
676
00:37:45.400 --> 00:37:51.559
The one percent? M Yeah, and you have to be
677
00:37:51.679 --> 00:37:55.119
willing to and I say you as in the mirror.
678
00:37:55.639 --> 00:37:59.639
Yeah, you know, this is very much a statement to
679
00:37:59.679 --> 00:38:04.039
myself as it is to anybody listening, which is I
680
00:38:04.039 --> 00:38:07.719
I keep forcing myself to be willing for it to
681
00:38:07.800 --> 00:38:14.559
take longer, and the willingness for it to take time
682
00:38:14.679 --> 00:38:17.119
to do it, the more guarantee.
683
00:38:16.639 --> 00:38:17.920
The success will occur.
684
00:38:18.840 --> 00:38:19.440
Yeah.
685
00:38:19.480 --> 00:38:24.320
And it is the just the aspect of like, it's
686
00:38:24.400 --> 00:38:28.360
going to be harder, it's going to take longer, and
687
00:38:28.599 --> 00:38:33.280
you just have to be willing to understand that, and
688
00:38:33.360 --> 00:38:35.639
as in you, as an I I have been having
689
00:38:35.639 --> 00:38:38.559
to more and more understand that. It's just it's about
690
00:38:38.599 --> 00:38:42.480
one percent better every week, one percent better, one percent better.
691
00:38:42.760 --> 00:38:46.079
Eventually that's all adds up and you're in the one percent.
692
00:38:45.760 --> 00:38:46.599
Of whatever.
693
00:38:47.840 --> 00:38:50.360
Category of percentages you want to be in, whether it's wealth,
694
00:38:50.400 --> 00:38:54.840
whether it's your industry, whether it's in sports, this, that, whatever,
695
00:38:56.199 --> 00:38:59.400
you know, and it's but it's that willingness for it
696
00:38:59.480 --> 00:39:02.519
to just incrementally get there.
697
00:39:03.119 --> 00:39:05.480
Yeah, as you were sharing, I was thinking about compound
698
00:39:05.559 --> 00:39:10.000
interest and so you know, working on yourself getting better
699
00:39:10.079 --> 00:39:13.039
one percent every day every week, and it grows and
700
00:39:13.079 --> 00:39:14.559
it compounds over time.
701
00:39:15.519 --> 00:39:19.119
And that's the biggest example I use for social media marketing. Look,
702
00:39:19.400 --> 00:39:24.719
your organic social is literally the equivalent of compound interest.
703
00:39:25.519 --> 00:39:28.480
That's the example I constantly use on podcasts and on
704
00:39:28.519 --> 00:39:30.639
my own social when I when I talk about it.
705
00:39:30.599 --> 00:39:31.320
Because.
706
00:39:32.559 --> 00:39:37.000
It's going to grow slowly. You look at every single person.
707
00:39:37.159 --> 00:39:42.960
Mister Beast, the largest YouTuber in the planet is did
708
00:39:43.039 --> 00:39:49.840
this and now he's gaining you know, millions of followers
709
00:39:49.920 --> 00:39:50.719
every day.
710
00:39:52.400 --> 00:39:56.519
But he started to zero, just like all of us wealth.
711
00:39:56.800 --> 00:40:01.559
Social marketing business it all is actual potential. But again
712
00:40:01.599 --> 00:40:03.800
that's where I have to remind myself. It's just one
713
00:40:03.840 --> 00:40:07.840
percent every day. So good, do a post today on
714
00:40:07.840 --> 00:40:12.480
one platform. Good, just do another post tomorrow, and then
715
00:40:12.519 --> 00:40:16.519
another post. Eventually it'll be two posts, or eventually you'll
716
00:40:16.519 --> 00:40:18.280
have an assistant to be able to do the post
717
00:40:18.360 --> 00:40:21.480
for you. Eventually you'll just you know, be able to
718
00:40:21.599 --> 00:40:23.440
delegate and expand and expand.
719
00:40:23.719 --> 00:40:24.320
And this is a.
720
00:40:24.400 --> 00:40:29.440
Nuts speaking of podcasts, and this is beautifully said. Listen
721
00:40:29.480 --> 00:40:32.440
for those that's tuned in, share Share, Share, and when
722
00:40:32.440 --> 00:40:35.000
you share, you could just say one percent, one percent
723
00:40:35.039 --> 00:40:37.679
better every day, whatever, or you can take another golden
724
00:40:37.760 --> 00:40:40.239
nugget that you heard and when you share this post,
725
00:40:40.360 --> 00:40:42.159
drop the nugget you do it that way, drop the
726
00:40:42.239 --> 00:40:45.119
nugget that you connected with the most when you share this,
727
00:40:45.239 --> 00:40:47.119
when you text this link, when you put it on
728
00:40:47.199 --> 00:40:49.880
your social media page. But I want us to talk
729
00:40:49.920 --> 00:40:53.480
about your podcast show, Move Faster. Tell everyone how can
730
00:40:53.480 --> 00:40:54.960
they can plug into your show?
731
00:40:55.760 --> 00:40:58.639
So yeah, I have a podcast called Move Faster. It
732
00:40:58.760 --> 00:41:01.760
is a little bit more direct towards artists because it
733
00:41:01.840 --> 00:41:05.239
was the show that I wish I had a decade ago.
734
00:41:05.360 --> 00:41:08.000
I'm sure there's other shows like this that exist, but
735
00:41:09.599 --> 00:41:12.840
you know, it's a little bit of based around just
736
00:41:12.920 --> 00:41:17.599
my my lessons and learnings. So it's it's I've been
737
00:41:17.639 --> 00:41:20.599
kind of doing on and off for years, talk about
738
00:41:20.639 --> 00:41:23.159
you know again just trying to get one percent better
739
00:41:23.199 --> 00:41:28.519
every day and where it's but it's similar to you know,
740
00:41:28.599 --> 00:41:31.719
Ale Tramos is the game in that respect, where it's
741
00:41:31.760 --> 00:41:34.320
just the lessons he's learning and the lessons he's imparting,
742
00:41:34.679 --> 00:41:38.079
and it's you know, the lessons I'm learning and imparting
743
00:41:38.119 --> 00:41:43.480
to artists about the business side, because the I look
744
00:41:43.559 --> 00:41:47.400
at being an artist is very much being an entrepreneur.
745
00:41:47.480 --> 00:41:50.480
Being an entrepreneur is being an artist because you know,
746
00:41:50.519 --> 00:41:52.960
you're putting something there that's never been there before. That's
747
00:41:53.000 --> 00:41:55.440
all an artist does is creating a future and creating
748
00:41:55.519 --> 00:41:58.760
art that's never been created before, and entrepreneurs creating a
749
00:41:58.760 --> 00:42:02.079
business and creating job and creating money that's never been
750
00:42:02.119 --> 00:42:09.760
there before. So you know, it's my entrepreneurial lessons that
751
00:42:10.079 --> 00:42:14.719
hopefully up and coming artists UH can listen to take
752
00:42:14.760 --> 00:42:18.519
part in and with the basic philosophy that most problems
753
00:42:18.519 --> 00:42:19.840
can be solved by just moving faster.
754
00:42:20.719 --> 00:42:24.199
Absolutely absolutely plug your website and any handles you want
755
00:42:24.199 --> 00:42:24.599
to drop.
756
00:42:25.599 --> 00:42:30.519

00:43:00.039 --> 00:43:03.400

777
00:43:29.679 --> 00:43:32.280
Jake just keep going.
778
00:43:32.920 --> 00:43:38.480
It is it is business being an entrepreneur, it's all.
779
00:43:38.760 --> 00:43:41.639
It's a game of just not throwing in the towel.
780
00:43:41.920 --> 00:43:44.320
If you just keep going, you will win.
781
00:43:44.840 --> 00:43:47.480
One percent every day. And with that being said, we're
782
00:43:47.519 --> 00:43:49.440
gonna see everybody at the top,
1
00:00:01.199 --> 00:00:05.280
Hello, and welcome back to another edition of The Shift.
2
00:00:05.400 --> 00:00:08.880
I am Catherine E. Trotter, your host. Today's gonna be
3
00:00:08.880 --> 00:00:12.960
another phenomenal conversation. So you know what you gotta do.
4
00:00:13.000 --> 00:00:15.640
You got to hit the share button and share this
5
00:00:15.800 --> 00:00:20.039
with your network, share it with your community, because we
6
00:00:20.120 --> 00:00:24.000
have someone I think that's going to share some valuable information.
7
00:00:24.079 --> 00:00:26.359
I like to call it golden nuggets. I'm going to
8
00:00:26.440 --> 00:00:28.760
read a little snippet of his bio and then we'll
9
00:00:28.800 --> 00:00:32.920
bring him on officially. So Jake Isham, he's in the
10
00:00:33.039 --> 00:00:34.799
Los Angeles, California area.
11
00:00:35.600 --> 00:00:36.520
He believes in.
12
00:00:36.560 --> 00:00:42.000
Helping founders and executives to build personal brands that wins trust.
13
00:00:42.719 --> 00:00:45.719
It also leads to deals. You know, he's a filmmaker
14
00:00:46.600 --> 00:00:49.960
and he is a brand strategist. Without further ado, let's
15
00:00:49.960 --> 00:00:52.200
welcome Jake. Thank you so much for being on the show,
16
00:00:53.119 --> 00:00:54.320
having me here.
17
00:00:54.359 --> 00:00:55.000
Absolutely.
18
00:00:55.320 --> 00:00:57.640
You know, we had a moment, a brief moment to
19
00:00:57.719 --> 00:01:00.799
talk prior to now, and just in those moments, it
20
00:01:01.000 --> 00:01:04.359
really left an impression upon me about the knowledge and
21
00:01:04.400 --> 00:01:07.359
your skill set in the industry that you're in. Right,
22
00:01:07.680 --> 00:01:11.120
So before we talk all about your company creative minds,
23
00:01:11.400 --> 00:01:14.000
tell everybody a little bit about who is Jake and
24
00:01:14.040 --> 00:01:16.560
what drew you to the film industry.
25
00:01:18.319 --> 00:01:23.319
Well, I'm born and raised in Los Angeles, and I
26
00:01:23.359 --> 00:01:28.200
feel like I almost have like a cliche story where.
27
00:01:28.159 --> 00:01:30.599
I grew up acting. I grew up acting. I love
28
00:01:30.680 --> 00:01:31.400
being on stage.
29
00:01:31.400 --> 00:01:33.079
I grew up acting from the age of five to
30
00:01:33.200 --> 00:01:38.079
about sixteen seventeen years old. And then at that point
31
00:01:38.400 --> 00:01:41.120
around in my mid teens, I had an agent, had
32
00:01:41.120 --> 00:01:43.200
a manager, and I was doing a lot of auditions,
33
00:01:43.519 --> 00:01:45.719
but I was getting most of the auditions myself, and
34
00:01:45.760 --> 00:01:50.959
I was like, this is ridiculous and pretentious. Sixteen year
35
00:01:51.000 --> 00:01:55.319
old Jake went, well, I'm gonna stop auditioning and I'm going.
36
00:01:55.239 --> 00:01:57.799
To just write and direct my own movies. You know
37
00:01:57.920 --> 00:01:58.480
I can do that.
38
00:01:58.560 --> 00:02:02.599
Of course, it's a little uh, it's not as easy
39
00:02:02.599 --> 00:02:02.879
as that.
40
00:02:04.640 --> 00:02:07.920
But I went to film school and learned behind.
41
00:02:07.640 --> 00:02:09.840
The camera, and by the end of those four years,
42
00:02:09.919 --> 00:02:13.520
I forgot that I even cared about acting, and I
43
00:02:13.599 --> 00:02:17.400
felt completely in love with the craft of directing.
44
00:02:18.560 --> 00:02:21.280
But isn't it how life is, Right, We'll start off
45
00:02:21.319 --> 00:02:24.360
on one path, like you have the love for acting
46
00:02:24.479 --> 00:02:27.319
as a teenager, you delved into it and even hit
47
00:02:27.960 --> 00:02:30.960
a lot of guts in you to say I'm gonna
48
00:02:30.960 --> 00:02:32.560
take the bull by the horn and do it myself
49
00:02:32.560 --> 00:02:36.319
with getting myself featured in certain opportunities. But then when
50
00:02:36.360 --> 00:02:39.319
you went to film school, you discovered another passion of yours.
51
00:02:39.360 --> 00:02:41.120
Talk about the discovery of that passion.
52
00:02:43.120 --> 00:02:45.360
I mean it was very in line with what I
53
00:02:45.360 --> 00:02:45.879
had been doing.
54
00:02:45.879 --> 00:02:48.879
I grew up doing obviously acting, and I had also
55
00:02:49.000 --> 00:02:51.520
grew up doing music. I was very fortunate that both
56
00:02:51.560 --> 00:02:54.680
my parents are artists and are working artists, and so
57
00:02:55.280 --> 00:02:58.280
I was raised in a household where being an artist
58
00:02:58.400 --> 00:02:59.960
was a career.
59
00:03:01.159 --> 00:03:03.680
It was you know, it was a very you could say,
60
00:03:03.960 --> 00:03:04.919
very not the.
61
00:03:04.960 --> 00:03:08.120
Norm of like, go get a real job. My parents
62
00:03:08.400 --> 00:03:13.000
real job was being an artist. Yea. So it was
63
00:03:13.080 --> 00:03:15.319
very much okay, you want to be a filmmaker, great,
64
00:03:16.120 --> 00:03:19.199
go go, yeah, go figure it out.
65
00:03:19.400 --> 00:03:21.039
You know. I grew up doing music.
66
00:03:20.800 --> 00:03:23.960
And performing in DJ, and I had a whole and
67
00:03:24.240 --> 00:03:25.639
career in music, and.
68
00:03:25.560 --> 00:03:27.240
I always around.
69
00:03:27.680 --> 00:03:31.199
Yeah, and so I just made the shift at you know, uh,
70
00:03:31.879 --> 00:03:35.680
in senior year of college. It was a very clear
71
00:03:35.759 --> 00:03:38.639
moment and decisive moment where I was just like, great,
72
00:03:38.719 --> 00:03:40.879
I'm going to double down on the film stuff and
73
00:03:41.280 --> 00:03:43.560
make this a career and.
74
00:03:45.159 --> 00:03:46.719
Been kind of figuring out ever since.
75
00:03:48.039 --> 00:03:49.719
Yeah, No, I think that's beautiful.
76
00:03:49.719 --> 00:03:52.240
And for those that are tuned in and those that
77
00:03:52.719 --> 00:03:55.280
you know, feel connected to something that's being said, definitely
78
00:03:55.319 --> 00:03:57.800
share this. You're tuned into the shift. And I think
79
00:03:57.840 --> 00:04:01.520
something that struck me your parents. You modeled a lot
80
00:04:01.599 --> 00:04:03.680
of what you saw your parents doing, and they gave
81
00:04:03.719 --> 00:04:07.879
you the freedom and the encouragement to flow in what
82
00:04:07.960 --> 00:04:09.840
you wanted to do. Because a lot of times, to
83
00:04:09.879 --> 00:04:11.919
your point, people will say, oh, you can't really make
84
00:04:11.960 --> 00:04:15.280
money in the arts or so forth, but that's contrary.
85
00:04:15.360 --> 00:04:18.279
It is a very real industry, very real money to
86
00:04:18.319 --> 00:04:18.879
be made.
87
00:04:19.439 --> 00:04:23.759
You locked into your vision of how you saw yourself flowing.
88
00:04:23.920 --> 00:04:26.800
And I think modeling is very important. Again, you said
89
00:04:26.800 --> 00:04:29.839
you saw your parents, you grew up in it. But
90
00:04:30.120 --> 00:04:32.600
I think what's beautiful also because there's so many ways
91
00:04:32.600 --> 00:04:35.279
you can go when we talk about the arts in
92
00:04:35.319 --> 00:04:38.439
that arts community, but you dived into something that struck
93
00:04:38.439 --> 00:04:40.680
a chord for you, not saying all the other things
94
00:04:40.680 --> 00:04:43.480
you were doing wasn't a real space for you, but
95
00:04:43.519 --> 00:04:45.360
when you dived into the film, and I want to
96
00:04:45.439 --> 00:04:47.560
kind of shift to that. What shifted you then to
97
00:04:47.639 --> 00:04:49.120
start creative minds?
98
00:04:50.560 --> 00:04:53.439
Well, it was, to be honest, it was like, how
99
00:04:53.439 --> 00:04:56.360
do I make money doing this? You know? Okay, great,
100
00:04:56.399 --> 00:04:58.439
I have a piece of paper that says I'm a filmmaker,
101
00:04:58.879 --> 00:05:01.759
And anybody who knows the industry knows that there's kind
102
00:05:01.800 --> 00:05:04.079
of like one of two ways you can do it.
103
00:05:04.160 --> 00:05:04.879
You can kind of.
104
00:05:04.839 --> 00:05:07.319
Work your way up from being a PA, you know,
105
00:05:07.360 --> 00:05:10.120
which is like a production assistant. Can you work your
106
00:05:10.120 --> 00:05:12.360
way up the ladder and then until eventually you get
107
00:05:12.399 --> 00:05:16.399
your shot? Yeah, or you kind of take a stab
108
00:05:16.439 --> 00:05:19.279
at the freelance lifestyle. I had done a couple of
109
00:05:19.319 --> 00:05:24.720
the PA type jobs and was like nope, and really
110
00:05:24.759 --> 00:05:27.199
just so I was like, this is so not what
111
00:05:27.240 --> 00:05:32.000
I want to do. I've been very fortunate and it's
112
00:05:32.040 --> 00:05:33.639
been you know, definitely had its ups and downs, but
113
00:05:33.680 --> 00:05:38.240
I've never worked for somebody else. I've but because of that,
114
00:05:38.319 --> 00:05:42.480
it's definitely been there's a lack of security throughout the
115
00:05:42.560 --> 00:05:47.439
last fifteen years and so, but basically what started with
116
00:05:47.560 --> 00:05:50.319
Creative Minds was like, Okay, I got to figure this out.
117
00:05:50.439 --> 00:05:52.399
I have a skill set and.
118
00:05:53.959 --> 00:05:57.199
I was growing my own social media relatively quickly at
119
00:05:57.199 --> 00:05:59.920
that point, and I was kind of learning marketing and
120
00:06:00.639 --> 00:06:03.600
it just kind of sings where what can I provide
121
00:06:03.759 --> 00:06:08.279
value in terms of I have these skills, who needs
122
00:06:08.319 --> 00:06:12.920
these skills? And you know, in my early twenties, I
123
00:06:12.920 --> 00:06:15.600
have to learn business. I had to basically go to
124
00:06:15.680 --> 00:06:19.720
business school then, but on my own and still am
125
00:06:19.759 --> 00:06:21.959
going to business schools in the sense of like I'm
126
00:06:22.000 --> 00:06:28.879
still learning, still figuring it out, because the entrepreneurship specifically,
127
00:06:28.920 --> 00:06:31.199
like that skill set is not like an inherent skill
128
00:06:31.240 --> 00:06:34.720
set sales, marketing, etc. Like you could say more of
129
00:06:34.720 --> 00:06:38.079
the film stuff is the passion and that's where I'm like, Okay,
130
00:06:38.160 --> 00:06:42.959
that's where I'm naturally more drawn to. And but it's
131
00:06:42.959 --> 00:06:47.360
been a continual education in terms of business and understanding
132
00:06:47.600 --> 00:06:54.439
the shift between being an entrepreneur and being an artist and.
133
00:06:55.000 --> 00:06:58.040
How do those fit together and fit separately.
134
00:06:59.079 --> 00:07:01.360
Now, I think that's the beauty said And even for
135
00:07:01.439 --> 00:07:03.439
the fact that you talked about the shift and for
136
00:07:03.519 --> 00:07:05.560
everybody that's tuned and you know, the show is all
137
00:07:05.600 --> 00:07:08.000
about shifting, so that I think it's perfect with the
138
00:07:08.040 --> 00:07:10.560
analogy or just how you're painting the picture on how
139
00:07:10.680 --> 00:07:13.720
you personally had to shift, and you talked about, you know,
140
00:07:13.759 --> 00:07:16.480
from the passion the artistry side to then Okay, well,
141
00:07:16.519 --> 00:07:18.519
now we gotta make money. This is my passion, this
142
00:07:18.600 --> 00:07:20.560
is my love. I'm great at it, but now I
143
00:07:20.600 --> 00:07:22.759
need to make money from it. But also, I think,
144
00:07:22.759 --> 00:07:26.959
as I hear you speak, process of elimination took place again.
145
00:07:27.160 --> 00:07:29.279
You was doing some PA work, but she was like, no,
146
00:07:29.560 --> 00:07:32.240
this isn't for me. I think that's profound. Here's why
147
00:07:32.240 --> 00:07:35.120
I say that, because sometimes people can get stuck in
148
00:07:35.160 --> 00:07:38.199
a role in their life. It's not feeding them, it's
149
00:07:38.199 --> 00:07:41.360
not fulfilling, it's not providing the resources funding that they need.
150
00:07:41.560 --> 00:07:43.720
But they just saying it because they were told, well,
151
00:07:43.800 --> 00:07:46.720
this is the typical order of things. But what I'm
152
00:07:46.720 --> 00:07:49.480
hearing from you, you may have heard that's the typical order.
153
00:07:49.519 --> 00:07:51.720
You tried it, but you realize it wasn't for you,
154
00:07:51.759 --> 00:07:54.000
and then you shifted. Yeah.
155
00:07:54.040 --> 00:07:56.279
I mean it was really quick. I actually had done
156
00:07:56.279 --> 00:07:59.319
a PA job before college. I worked it was very
157
00:07:59.399 --> 00:08:03.319
fortunate to work on a feature film like at eighteen,
158
00:08:04.120 --> 00:08:06.800
and really quickly in those six weeks that I was
159
00:08:06.839 --> 00:08:10.439
on set, was like I never want to do this,
160
00:08:12.120 --> 00:08:15.759
and look, I made great money for an eighteen year old.
161
00:08:16.240 --> 00:08:19.560
I was making bank doing it. In those six weeks.
162
00:08:19.560 --> 00:08:25.600
I was like, oh, okay, But I always I never
163
00:08:25.639 --> 00:08:29.680
cared about the money. I because I I don't know,
164
00:08:30.079 --> 00:08:34.120
I had been around and look, I'm very fortunate to
165
00:08:34.200 --> 00:08:38.480
have grown up around some money and in an upper
166
00:08:38.480 --> 00:08:40.320
middle class, upper class and.
167
00:08:41.720 --> 00:08:44.440
When you the biggest advantage I.
168
00:08:46.519 --> 00:08:48.600
Say, when people ask me, like, what was the advantage
169
00:08:48.600 --> 00:08:52.039
of growing up in that lifestyle was you see, money
170
00:08:52.039 --> 00:08:58.159
can't be made and if you're just smart enough and
171
00:08:58.159 --> 00:09:00.399
and you just kind of figure out how to the
172
00:09:00.440 --> 00:09:02.720
dots like, you can make money, and you can make
173
00:09:03.000 --> 00:09:05.320
a lot of money. And there was no ceiling to money.
174
00:09:05.519 --> 00:09:08.039
Money is just energy. It comes in, it comes out,
175
00:09:08.120 --> 00:09:13.320
it needs to move. And if you're provide a service
176
00:09:13.559 --> 00:09:14.480
or a product that's.
177
00:09:14.399 --> 00:09:16.279
Valuable enough, you will make money.
178
00:09:17.000 --> 00:09:20.879
And so being that, my parents are, yes, the artists,
179
00:09:20.919 --> 00:09:24.679
but because of that, they're entrepreneurs. You know, they worked
180
00:09:24.679 --> 00:09:29.120
for themselves, they created their own companies. That I was like, oh,
181
00:09:29.240 --> 00:09:31.360
you you can create your own company.
182
00:09:31.399 --> 00:09:32.480
You can be the boss.
183
00:09:33.440 --> 00:09:38.720
And it was so I always I was around that,
184
00:09:39.759 --> 00:09:41.720
you know, I mean to be blunt, the opposite of
185
00:09:41.799 --> 00:09:45.320
like my wife, for example, whose parents, you know, work
186
00:09:45.399 --> 00:09:49.519
for others and weren't particularly that. So she was always
187
00:09:49.559 --> 00:09:52.639
used to more of a safety security net until her
188
00:09:52.720 --> 00:09:56.440
and I meant it started dating. She was like, oh, okay,
189
00:09:56.639 --> 00:10:01.559
I see that, and I've you know, to see you know,
190
00:10:01.600 --> 00:10:03.279
I love that you call it the shift, but like
191
00:10:03.320 --> 00:10:07.519
to see her shift, And it is so important to
192
00:10:08.279 --> 00:10:13.240
who you are around has such such a.
193
00:10:16.399 --> 00:10:19.000
Impact on how you think and how you operate.
194
00:10:19.799 --> 00:10:22.960
And even recently, you know, I'm in my thirties now
195
00:10:23.000 --> 00:10:25.559
and I, you know, was around a friend that I
196
00:10:25.639 --> 00:10:29.120
mentioned something and he gave me kind of an interesting comment.
197
00:10:29.159 --> 00:10:33.720
I'm like, oh, but again compared to another friend who
198
00:10:33.720 --> 00:10:35.720
I said a similar thing to and gave me the
199
00:10:35.759 --> 00:10:37.120
complete opposite reaction of fots.
200
00:10:37.120 --> 00:10:40.639
Oh yeah, that's awesome. And it's just that mindset around
201
00:10:40.720 --> 00:10:43.639
who you're around matters so much.
202
00:10:44.519 --> 00:10:48.120
Yeah, No, a mindset is everything. Who you're around, your association,
203
00:10:48.879 --> 00:10:52.559
the shift, even in your relationship with your wife and
204
00:10:52.600 --> 00:10:55.200
as you always dating, I think it's so important the
205
00:10:55.200 --> 00:10:58.440
conversation that we're having with others, but also talk about
206
00:10:58.480 --> 00:11:01.000
the conversation that you have to have with you because
207
00:11:01.000 --> 00:11:05.200
as you're on this entrepreneurship journey, how can an entrepreneur
208
00:11:05.279 --> 00:11:08.039
stay motivated? Because to your point, it can be ups
209
00:11:08.039 --> 00:11:09.679
and downs, it could be a lot of things going on,
210
00:11:10.039 --> 00:11:14.960
So how can an entrepreneur? How have you stayed motivated?
211
00:11:15.960 --> 00:11:18.240
It's silly as it is like when I first got
212
00:11:18.240 --> 00:11:21.480
into the entrepreneurship game and learning entrepreneurship, they you know,
213
00:11:21.679 --> 00:11:24.080
every mentor every you know conference.
214
00:11:24.120 --> 00:11:27.559
I went to the thing everyone said and.
215
00:11:27.559 --> 00:11:31.879
I absolutely hated it. I rejected it. I fought it.
216
00:11:32.039 --> 00:11:34.600
I was like, you're an idiot.
217
00:11:34.320 --> 00:11:38.360
This even though they're you know, unbelievably successful, they were
218
00:11:38.399 --> 00:11:41.240
all it's eighty percent mindset, twenty percent tactics.
219
00:11:41.440 --> 00:11:43.360
And I was like, I don't know if we're allowed
220
00:11:43.360 --> 00:11:46.759
to cut curse, but you know all of the curse words,
221
00:11:47.600 --> 00:11:47.799
you know.
222
00:11:48.799 --> 00:11:54.120
And as I've now you know, been doing this for
223
00:11:54.360 --> 00:11:59.399
well over a decade, it is the mindset.
224
00:11:59.519 --> 00:12:02.519
It is the and like, you know, what has.
225
00:12:02.440 --> 00:12:06.600
Got me through it. It has been the you know,
226
00:12:07.120 --> 00:12:11.080
self belief. No, I am going to be successful. The
227
00:12:11.159 --> 00:12:14.480
days are down, No, just keep going, work a little harder,
228
00:12:15.200 --> 00:12:18.720
work a little harder. Keep No, I will be successful.
229
00:12:18.720 --> 00:12:22.960
And it and it it's what's the phrase. I think
230
00:12:23.240 --> 00:12:29.399
it was delusionally optimistic, which is true any any artist,
231
00:12:29.519 --> 00:12:35.200
any entrepreneur, anybody who's successful. There's an aspect of they
232
00:12:35.240 --> 00:12:40.799
are delusionally optimistic that they will be successful. And you know,
233
00:12:40.919 --> 00:12:43.480
there was a line that I heard from Tom Cruise
234
00:12:43.840 --> 00:12:46.759
which was I don't tell other people my goals.
235
00:12:48.200 --> 00:12:50.360
Basically to never.
236
00:12:50.200 --> 00:12:53.399
Allow them to give any evaluation of it, like ohka,
237
00:12:53.480 --> 00:12:55.759
are you sure you can do that or any invalidation
238
00:12:55.879 --> 00:12:56.799
of hm.
239
00:12:56.919 --> 00:12:59.039
I don't think you can do that. That's not achievable.
240
00:12:59.519 --> 00:12:59.720
You know.
241
00:12:59.759 --> 00:13:01.919
Like I had a buddy of mine and I had
242
00:13:01.960 --> 00:13:05.840
to catch myself and after I regretted any everything I said,
243
00:13:05.879 --> 00:13:08.919
because he was like, yeah, you know, I want to
244
00:13:08.919 --> 00:13:11.440
do this with this influencer and this celebrity and like
245
00:13:11.600 --> 00:13:14.039
these are my five ten year goals. And I was like, well,
246
00:13:14.080 --> 00:13:16.000
you know, if you look at that, like he hasn't
247
00:13:16.039 --> 00:13:18.519
done anything like that influencer doesn't endorse things like this,
248
00:13:19.159 --> 00:13:20.519
and like, you know, I don't want to put any
249
00:13:20.600 --> 00:13:22.600
like negative Like even though I was like in the
250
00:13:22.639 --> 00:13:24.480
moment already being like I don't want to put any
251
00:13:24.519 --> 00:13:27.360
negative vibes or any I was even after I was
252
00:13:27.360 --> 00:13:29.720
like why I even say that at all? I should
253
00:13:29.759 --> 00:13:33.960
have just said, hell, yeah, man, I love that, even
254
00:13:34.000 --> 00:13:36.519
though I'm like that celebrity would probably never endorse this
255
00:13:36.600 --> 00:13:40.480
type of product. But I didn't need to give that
256
00:13:40.559 --> 00:13:44.360
evaluation in you know, and in those thoughts in his
257
00:13:44.480 --> 00:13:48.879
universe because and because I don't want that type of
258
00:13:49.000 --> 00:13:53.159
energy back to me. And it's like catching yourself, and
259
00:13:53.200 --> 00:13:55.720
it's just being hyper aware of that people around you,
260
00:13:56.440 --> 00:14:00.840
of who give you that Like I'm unbelie pievably fortunate
261
00:14:00.960 --> 00:14:05.519
that my entire family is unbelievably supportive in my ventures
262
00:14:06.279 --> 00:14:09.799
and where I'm unbelievably supportive in their ventures, you know,
263
00:14:09.840 --> 00:14:15.240
And I recognize how rare that is to have a close.
264
00:14:16.559 --> 00:14:18.960
Of a bond we all have and have that.
265
00:14:18.960 --> 00:14:22.320
Relationship, and likewise with my wife, with my spouse, where
266
00:14:22.720 --> 00:14:25.960
you know, arguably the most important decision one will ever
267
00:14:26.000 --> 00:14:28.960
make is their spouse, and you have to be so
268
00:14:29.159 --> 00:14:32.120
locked in on that same goal, on that same that
269
00:14:32.320 --> 00:14:35.480
you have that agreement we're going for these goals.
270
00:14:35.679 --> 00:14:38.360
Yeah. No, I think that's so powerful.
271
00:14:38.399 --> 00:14:42.559
Even as you're mentioning about the family unit, your connection
272
00:14:42.679 --> 00:14:45.320
and relationship with your wife and then your parents and
273
00:14:45.320 --> 00:14:48.159
then your you know, family members. O.
274
00:14:48.480 --> 00:14:50.879
I'm the oldest of four kids and we all have
275
00:14:51.240 --> 00:14:53.879
you know, significant others. So you know, we go to dinner,
276
00:14:53.919 --> 00:14:57.720
it's a reservation for ten now and actually my youngest
277
00:14:57.720 --> 00:14:59.440
brother actually just now had a child, and so it's
278
00:14:59.440 --> 00:15:01.399
a reservation for eleven technical days.
279
00:15:02.720 --> 00:15:05.039
Yeah, I think that's beautiful.
280
00:15:05.120 --> 00:15:07.279
And for those that are listening and those that are watching,
281
00:15:07.320 --> 00:15:10.120
I think these are all principles that we can take
282
00:15:10.159 --> 00:15:13.399
in and say, how can we take this conversation back
283
00:15:13.440 --> 00:15:15.559
to our families? Right, So, I think you're painting a
284
00:15:15.559 --> 00:15:19.360
beautiful picture between the business side, entrepreneurship, but also family.
285
00:15:19.799 --> 00:15:23.000
You know, because that is what I'm hearing from you
286
00:15:23.440 --> 00:15:25.519
is a huge piece of your puzzle in your life
287
00:15:26.600 --> 00:15:30.720
and everything dealing with strategic collaboration network who powers the shift.
288
00:15:30.759 --> 00:15:33.279
We love puzzle pieces because we truly believe that we're
289
00:15:33.279 --> 00:15:36.639
all interconnected together. And even as you're sharing about your
290
00:15:36.679 --> 00:15:40.200
family unit, y'all are all interconnected together. And when I
291
00:15:40.240 --> 00:15:42.399
was on your LinkedIn page, you talked about a decade
292
00:15:42.399 --> 00:15:44.559
and when I noticed that on your LinkedIn page, and
293
00:15:44.559 --> 00:15:47.360
for those that are watching, I encourage you to go
294
00:15:47.399 --> 00:15:49.360
to his page. But I'm just gonna read another snippet
295
00:15:49.360 --> 00:15:52.480
that I saw and mentioned. Over the past decade, Jake
296
00:15:52.639 --> 00:15:55.720
worked with more than one hundred and fifty entrepreneurs and companies,
297
00:15:55.960 --> 00:16:01.559
including Grant Cardone Callaway, and so many other Travis Matthew
298
00:16:02.120 --> 00:16:05.440
talk about your you know what was those experiences.
299
00:16:04.879 --> 00:16:09.399
Like, I mean, everyone unique and different, and you know,
300
00:16:09.720 --> 00:16:13.759
each he just had their own interesting story, you know.
301
00:16:15.360 --> 00:16:18.960
I mean, it's very fun to work with bigger and
302
00:16:19.000 --> 00:16:23.080
bigger brands, bigger and bigger entrepreneurs because again, like as
303
00:16:23.080 --> 00:16:25.840
we kind of talked about earlier, which was you start
304
00:16:25.879 --> 00:16:30.919
to see how the people above you operate and how
305
00:16:31.200 --> 00:16:33.639
you know, working with a company like Travis Matthew and
306
00:16:33.639 --> 00:16:39.159
seeing like they're planning clothes two years from now, they're
307
00:16:39.159 --> 00:16:45.200
having strategic discussions two years ahead. You're seeing you know,
308
00:16:45.240 --> 00:16:48.399
working with Grants, seeing the way his team operates around
309
00:16:48.480 --> 00:16:54.279
him to facilitate his extreme optimization on how he gets
310
00:16:54.279 --> 00:16:57.519
things done. You know, where people's like, oh that's successive.
311
00:16:57.559 --> 00:17:01.000
It's like, well the man is I guess civillionaire, and
312
00:17:01.080 --> 00:17:04.920
you know, his time needs to be optimized.
313
00:17:05.000 --> 00:17:06.759
And so you see these different.
314
00:17:08.480 --> 00:17:11.799
Companies and these different entrepreneurs work in a different way,
315
00:17:11.920 --> 00:17:15.160
and you don't see that unless you're around it. And
316
00:17:15.240 --> 00:17:18.359
so that's been arguably kind of the coolest and most
317
00:17:18.359 --> 00:17:22.000
informative thing with working with the you know, eight nine
318
00:17:22.119 --> 00:17:26.480
ten figure brands, the millionaires, and you know a couple
319
00:17:26.480 --> 00:17:29.559
of billionaires I've been able, very very fortunate to be around.
320
00:17:30.440 --> 00:17:31.759
Yeah, and so what I'm.
321
00:17:31.680 --> 00:17:34.200
Hearing from you, you you was able to extract principles
322
00:17:34.200 --> 00:17:38.200
from them and how they operate in their business model,
323
00:17:38.519 --> 00:17:41.799
planning ahead, thinking future, you know, not just in the
324
00:17:41.839 --> 00:17:44.039
current moment. And for those that are watching right now,
325
00:17:44.079 --> 00:17:47.240
for those that have businesses, you're an entrepreneur, you may
326
00:17:47.319 --> 00:17:50.599
have a team of your own with your company, where
327
00:17:50.680 --> 00:17:52.880
are you going in the next two years? I think
328
00:17:52.920 --> 00:17:55.480
this is a you know, rhetorical question that we all
329
00:17:55.559 --> 00:17:56.960
can think about the.
330
00:17:56.880 --> 00:17:58.559
Next two years. What will it look like?
331
00:17:58.720 --> 00:18:00.799
You know, twenty twenty seven is be here before we
332
00:18:00.839 --> 00:18:03.640
blink our eye twenty twenty eight? Where do you see
333
00:18:03.680 --> 00:18:06.759
yourself right? Where do you see yourself growing to? I
334
00:18:06.880 --> 00:18:11.680
notice also on your LinkedIn profile it talked about you
335
00:18:11.759 --> 00:18:15.839
focus on deep marketing strategy. Talk a little bit about
336
00:18:15.839 --> 00:18:17.480
that when you're working with someone.
337
00:18:18.559 --> 00:18:23.079
Well, so I work a lot as a consulting creative director,
338
00:18:23.319 --> 00:18:26.799
where you know, basically they're in charge of kind of
339
00:18:26.839 --> 00:18:32.519
the the creative vision of the marketing plan. And so
340
00:18:32.799 --> 00:18:35.319
when I kind of step in there and I work
341
00:18:35.359 --> 00:18:37.519
with you know, cmos or I work with, you know,
342
00:18:37.640 --> 00:18:42.640
heads of marketing, basically helping kind of execute.
343
00:18:42.759 --> 00:18:43.759
What that vision is.
344
00:18:43.799 --> 00:18:47.039
And you know, working with these guys and seeing like, Okay, hey,
345
00:18:47.200 --> 00:18:48.960
this is what we want to achieve this year, but
346
00:18:49.319 --> 00:18:52.000
it needs to be in line with our five, ten,
347
00:18:52.160 --> 00:18:57.480
twenty year goal for the company, you know, and everybody's
348
00:18:57.519 --> 00:19:00.119
again a little bit different, but you know, it come
349
00:19:00.319 --> 00:19:02.720
down to so much is just attention.
350
00:19:03.559 --> 00:19:06.680
You know, you to win, you just need It's a
351
00:19:06.720 --> 00:19:07.839
game of attention.
352
00:19:10.079 --> 00:19:13.240
And you know, I thought, piggyback on what you just said.
353
00:19:13.720 --> 00:19:16.720
I see another excerpt from your LinkedIn profile and I
354
00:19:16.759 --> 00:19:19.279
really want you to expand on this because I think
355
00:19:19.279 --> 00:19:23.880
it's interesting. It says you help entrepreneurs to cut through
356
00:19:23.920 --> 00:19:28.960
the noise by crafting content that builds trust, drives visibility,
357
00:19:29.359 --> 00:19:33.920
and creates true omnipresence across platforms. Kind of piggybacking on
358
00:19:33.920 --> 00:19:35.799
what you were just saying, But I think that's important
359
00:19:35.799 --> 00:19:38.279
because there's a lot of things that can be put
360
00:19:38.319 --> 00:19:40.440
on social media, that can be put on our website,
361
00:19:40.640 --> 00:19:43.039
but is it connected, does it have a layered approach?
362
00:19:43.240 --> 00:19:45.039
And how do you cut through the noise?
363
00:19:47.160 --> 00:19:50.000
Well, I mean what you're asking is a multi multi
364
00:19:50.039 --> 00:19:55.640
part Okay, you know I want to kind of tackle Yeah. So,
365
00:19:55.720 --> 00:19:58.440
I mean you can say the first thing is is, like.
366
00:20:00.519 --> 00:20:02.279
You know, because you hear it a lot from if
367
00:20:02.319 --> 00:20:04.319
people are in the marketing space or they're you know,
368
00:20:04.480 --> 00:20:07.519
listening to marketing podcasts marketing.
369
00:20:07.200 --> 00:20:12.240
Gurus, you could say this aspect of be on brand,
370
00:20:12.319 --> 00:20:16.799
what's your brand? And this word brand? Right? Branding on brand?
371
00:20:17.599 --> 00:20:20.279
You know, oh no, that's off brand, Like what does
372
00:20:20.319 --> 00:20:23.680
that mean? Well? Brand?
373
00:20:24.200 --> 00:20:26.599
If you just take the word, I'm just gonna, you know,
374
00:20:26.720 --> 00:20:30.880
do a little marketing lesson right now if you don't mind.
375
00:20:31.200 --> 00:20:33.519
You know, is an identifiable mark?
376
00:20:33.920 --> 00:20:34.079
Right?
377
00:20:34.119 --> 00:20:36.440
If you just think of it like cattle or horse
378
00:20:36.519 --> 00:20:39.279
on a ranch on a farm, you have an identifiable mark.
379
00:20:39.319 --> 00:20:43.079
You go, oh, that owns you know, that ranch owns
380
00:20:43.079 --> 00:20:48.839
that horse or that cattle or that animal. So you
381
00:20:48.920 --> 00:20:53.200
want to look at, you know, the brands that we
382
00:20:53.319 --> 00:20:56.960
recognize as they have an identifiable what you instantly go,
383
00:20:57.759 --> 00:21:00.839
that's who they are, right? And I just saw a
384
00:21:01.200 --> 00:21:06.599
great clip from the First Million Podcasts talking about Alex Hermosi.
385
00:21:06.920 --> 00:21:09.359
When they had him on the podcast. They said, okay,
386
00:21:09.799 --> 00:21:13.519
well what is your brand? And he's like business which
387
00:21:13.960 --> 00:21:16.680
they were talking about how where They're like when you
388
00:21:16.720 --> 00:21:17.680
first hear that, you go.
389
00:21:17.920 --> 00:21:19.720
What are you talking about that? That's such a.
390
00:21:19.759 --> 00:21:22.279
Large thing, Like no, no, no, you got to like hone
391
00:21:22.279 --> 00:21:26.799
in niche down and he's like, no, I want when
392
00:21:26.880 --> 00:21:32.519
somebody thinks about business, they think about me, Like.
393
00:21:32.880 --> 00:21:35.119
That is how big?
394
00:21:35.400 --> 00:21:37.839
Again we're talking He's not trying to do this in
395
00:21:37.839 --> 00:21:39.759
a year, in two years, five years, He's like, this
396
00:21:39.920 --> 00:21:43.519
is a lifetime, you know. In a similar way, where
397
00:21:43.799 --> 00:21:46.279
again he referenced like Grant Cardon, it was like when
398
00:21:46.319 --> 00:21:49.039
people think of Grant cardone, they think real estate, and
399
00:21:49.079 --> 00:21:51.640
they think real estate, they think Grant Cardon, Like that's
400
00:21:51.680 --> 00:21:56.559
the level of association, you know, or Ryan seahand where
401
00:21:56.880 --> 00:22:01.599
real estate agent Ryan seahand like they're building that brand.
402
00:22:01.640 --> 00:22:06.440
You think athletics, you think Nike, you think then arguably
403
00:22:06.480 --> 00:22:09.119
before Adidas, before under Armour.
404
00:22:11.200 --> 00:22:14.480
So it's the.
405
00:22:14.839 --> 00:22:17.079
Thing that I try to first do is what is
406
00:22:17.200 --> 00:22:21.480
let's be on brand. Let's make sure our messaging is consistent, right,
407
00:22:21.559 --> 00:22:23.200
So like what do you want to be known for?
408
00:22:24.559 --> 00:22:26.640
Really simply what do you want to be known for?
409
00:22:27.240 --> 00:22:31.000
And then it's I don't know if I'm on not
410
00:22:31.119 --> 00:22:33.319
to curse, but I unfortunately throw in a lot of
411
00:22:33.519 --> 00:22:38.319
f words to add emphasis as a true American, you know,
412
00:22:38.920 --> 00:22:41.039
but don't effing change it.
413
00:22:42.559 --> 00:22:44.160
Stay on the path.
414
00:22:44.279 --> 00:22:50.880
It's slow, it's fast, doesn't matter, say stay on the path, picket.
415
00:22:51.480 --> 00:22:54.559
And because the easiest thing to do is change, the
416
00:22:54.920 --> 00:22:57.920
hardest thing to do, the absolute hardest thing to do
417
00:22:58.160 --> 00:23:00.680
is not to change. And this is coming from somebody
418
00:23:01.799 --> 00:23:07.920
who is arguably the most guilty of changing. And this
419
00:23:08.079 --> 00:23:11.119
is one hundred percent the pot calling the kettle black.
420
00:23:11.160 --> 00:23:13.599
And I want one hundred percent admit it. Take me
421
00:23:13.640 --> 00:23:16.359
to jail type, you know, all of it. I am
422
00:23:16.400 --> 00:23:20.599
the absolute worst of changing because I didn't see success.
423
00:23:20.799 --> 00:23:25.519
It's not growing, and I've you know, struggled, and so
424
00:23:25.599 --> 00:23:28.240
I tried to, you know, say it from the standpoint
425
00:23:28.279 --> 00:23:33.079
of I've learned the hard lessons I've suffered because of it.
426
00:23:33.319 --> 00:23:37.079
And so the first thing is, you know, pick the brand,
427
00:23:37.559 --> 00:23:41.319
stay on brand. And usually it's relatively for the most part,
428
00:23:41.359 --> 00:23:45.160
like internally, yes, I've changed. Externally, people were like, what
429
00:23:45.200 --> 00:23:47.240
are you talking about. You've always done the kind of
430
00:23:47.279 --> 00:23:50.000
the same thing, and I have, you know, I've had
431
00:23:50.119 --> 00:23:52.039
internal freakouts and shifts and.
432
00:23:52.119 --> 00:23:52.640
This and that.
433
00:23:52.920 --> 00:23:54.200
But you know, so.
434
00:23:56.000 --> 00:23:58.440
You know, if you're a lawyer, You're typically just going
435
00:23:58.480 --> 00:24:00.440
to be a lawyer for the rest of your life,
436
00:24:00.480 --> 00:24:04.240
and so talk about that. And so cutting through the
437
00:24:04.240 --> 00:24:08.759
noise is usually you first gotta to cut through the noise.
438
00:24:08.759 --> 00:24:10.880
You've gotta it takes steps. You first got to just
439
00:24:10.920 --> 00:24:15.680
start putting stuff out there, and you typically find out
440
00:24:15.799 --> 00:24:20.880
what works by just doing volume. You know, I have
441
00:24:20.920 --> 00:24:26.680
a client who we were starting post content and again
442
00:24:26.759 --> 00:24:28.960
you have to do such volume to go what cuts
443
00:24:28.960 --> 00:24:32.960
through the noise? Yes, there are previous to that, to
444
00:24:33.039 --> 00:24:35.640
go what are the things to help unlock what works?
445
00:24:36.279 --> 00:24:43.480
Is controversy obviously, being semi controversial or fully controversial obviously
446
00:24:43.559 --> 00:24:47.680
is going to create engagement. In terms of scripting, your
447
00:24:47.720 --> 00:24:52.799
hook the first three seconds, the you know, going all right, guys,
448
00:24:52.880 --> 00:24:55.759
So being you know, more talkative, you could you know,
449
00:24:55.839 --> 00:24:59.440
the influencer voice speed at which you talk like. These
450
00:24:59.480 --> 00:25:02.799
are little things that can improve how to cut through
451
00:25:02.799 --> 00:25:06.200
the noise. But the biggest thing that I always tell
452
00:25:06.200 --> 00:25:10.240
people it's like is being on brand. What do you
453
00:25:10.279 --> 00:25:13.240
want like if you were to go viral and you
454
00:25:13.319 --> 00:25:16.240
hear YouTube coaches talk about this all the time, which
455
00:25:16.279 --> 00:25:19.839
is if you were to go viral for one thing,
456
00:25:20.559 --> 00:25:23.000
because usually that thing that goes viral will go viral
457
00:25:23.039 --> 00:25:24.920
again and you're gonna have to double down on it.
458
00:25:25.079 --> 00:25:28.640
So what's the thing you want to go viral for?
459
00:25:30.960 --> 00:25:34.960
Just keep doing that? Yeah, don't because you will go
460
00:25:35.079 --> 00:25:40.440
viral like I. You know, if you just do it enough,
461
00:25:40.599 --> 00:25:43.680
you will go viral. Something will go viral. And like
462
00:25:43.799 --> 00:25:46.200
I have, you can say the opposite story of friend
463
00:25:46.240 --> 00:25:49.400
of mine who's a musician. I was putting out the music,
464
00:25:49.440 --> 00:25:51.440
putting out the music, putting in the music, and then
465
00:25:51.480 --> 00:25:53.640
they have a camper van and they do the van
466
00:25:53.720 --> 00:25:56.400
life and one of their van life videos went viral.
467
00:25:57.559 --> 00:26:01.559
Guess what happens the audience, It just wants fan life videos.
468
00:26:01.680 --> 00:26:06.559
They don't care about the music. I had the same
469
00:26:06.599 --> 00:26:09.519
thing with me during COVID. I was just like, ah,
470
00:26:09.720 --> 00:26:12.519
TikTok's new. I guess I'm a millennial. I guess I'll
471
00:26:12.519 --> 00:26:15.640
get on this TikTok train. And my dog went viral
472
00:26:15.720 --> 00:26:23.279
ten million views. Anything about my photography, my filmmaking, nobody cared.
473
00:26:24.000 --> 00:26:27.640
I post my dog did another dog video, another million views.
474
00:26:28.200 --> 00:26:30.480
Post another dog video another two million views, another half
475
00:26:30.519 --> 00:26:36.480
million reviews. Post a filmmaking or photography video, twenty views,
476
00:26:38.079 --> 00:26:41.119
a couple thousand views, but like I grew two hundred
477
00:26:41.160 --> 00:26:44.359
thousand followers in like two months because of my dog.
478
00:26:45.079 --> 00:26:46.759
But I was like, I don't want to be a
479
00:26:46.880 --> 00:26:51.880
dog dad influencer person, right, I didn't want to do that,
480
00:26:55.480 --> 00:27:04.119
and I went viral for the wrong reasons. So your
481
00:27:04.200 --> 00:27:07.079
jury might be slower, it might be bigger, you know real.
482
00:27:07.200 --> 00:27:08.799
And then the last thing I tell people is like,
483
00:27:08.839 --> 00:27:12.640
look like a lot of small businesses that I consult
484
00:27:12.680 --> 00:27:15.400
or talk with or even work with, I go, you know,
485
00:27:16.720 --> 00:27:20.759
let's take a local plumbing company. What is their total
486
00:27:20.839 --> 00:27:24.880
adjustable market that they're going to serve. Let's say Los Angeles, right,
487
00:27:27.039 --> 00:27:29.200
which is where I live. It's a big city, it's
488
00:27:29.240 --> 00:27:34.519
got three million people. Let's say out of that it's
489
00:27:35.839 --> 00:27:40.599
half a million homes. You're going to service half a
490
00:27:40.839 --> 00:27:43.319
or you're gonna even service half a million homes. No,
491
00:27:45.119 --> 00:27:50.359
you're going to service maybe five thousand a year. I
492
00:27:50.400 --> 00:27:53.759
mean that's five thousand a year. That's three hundred and
493
00:27:53.799 --> 00:27:58.799
sixty five houses with one of your team members doing
494
00:27:58.839 --> 00:28:01.000
it a day, every single day.
495
00:28:01.119 --> 00:28:05.680
Christmas included the three hundred and sixty five homes.
496
00:28:06.039 --> 00:28:09.759
If you have two plumbers, now you're at seven hundred replumbers.
497
00:28:09.880 --> 00:28:11.519
Now you're at a thousand homes.
498
00:28:13.559 --> 00:28:17.519
Yeah, you don't need videos to get a million views.
499
00:28:20.279 --> 00:28:21.960
And this is the shift I tried to tell people.
500
00:28:22.000 --> 00:28:26.240
You don't need to go viral, you need the right audience.
501
00:28:26.480 --> 00:28:31.039
So cutting through the noise is not going viral. Cutting
502
00:28:31.039 --> 00:28:36.279
through the noise is getting the right audience to go, oh,
503
00:28:36.599 --> 00:28:41.160
they're my solution. That's what I've been looking for because
504
00:28:41.200 --> 00:28:43.559
I always talk to business owners and I go, look,
505
00:28:43.599 --> 00:28:47.599
you're not being an entertainer. Entertainers need millions of views
506
00:28:47.599 --> 00:28:50.440
because they get paid by millions of views. They get
507
00:28:50.440 --> 00:28:53.839
paid by their reviews, whether via brand deals, ad sense,
508
00:28:53.880 --> 00:28:56.839
et cetera. That's how they're getting paid. If you're a
509
00:28:56.920 --> 00:28:58.200
local service business, you're not.
510
00:28:58.119 --> 00:29:00.160
Getting paid by views.
511
00:29:00.680 --> 00:29:02.640
You just want your phone to ringk So you need
512
00:29:02.680 --> 00:29:06.279
to make content that's going to help make your phone ring,
513
00:29:06.599 --> 00:29:11.680
which is not entertainment content. It can be entertaining, but
514
00:29:11.759 --> 00:29:13.519
a lot of people who are gonna watch entertaining videos
515
00:29:13.559 --> 00:29:15.119
and they go, oh, cool to wipe up.
516
00:29:18.559 --> 00:29:21.240
I love the fact that you're just straight, no fluff.
517
00:29:21.480 --> 00:29:23.720
You just you know, putting the cars on the table, really,
518
00:29:23.759 --> 00:29:27.680
because you know, I think sometimes with social media people
519
00:29:27.720 --> 00:29:30.599
can make people feel pressure. Did you go viral yet?
520
00:29:30.799 --> 00:29:34.079
Question Mark? Right, well does your business go viral? And
521
00:29:34.119 --> 00:29:37.200
I think you beautifully explain what does cutting through the
522
00:29:37.240 --> 00:29:38.599
noise even mean.
523
00:29:39.039 --> 00:29:40.960
And breaking down viral.
524
00:29:42.599 --> 00:29:46.079
And not going viral, and where it makes sense and
525
00:29:46.119 --> 00:29:48.359
for what type of business, what type of industry.
526
00:29:49.000 --> 00:29:52.160
And you know, look, there are definitely clients that I
527
00:29:52.240 --> 00:29:55.640
have who need and want to go viral, who want
528
00:29:55.680 --> 00:29:58.240
to go viral, but also like, for what we're doing,
529
00:29:58.640 --> 00:30:01.039
have to go viral because of what we're doing is
530
00:30:01.480 --> 00:30:07.200
gaining general awareness. Right, We're not looking to sell a
531
00:30:07.279 --> 00:30:12.039
local service. They're looking to gain awareness and become an influencer.
532
00:30:12.440 --> 00:30:15.000
You know, I have a book and I'm trying to
533
00:30:15.000 --> 00:30:18.319
get my book and my message out there. You know,
534
00:30:18.440 --> 00:30:21.400
I want to do more speaking gigs. Well, that person
535
00:30:21.519 --> 00:30:22.839
needs to gain more views.
536
00:30:24.160 --> 00:30:27.799
They have to. That is their business. You know. It
537
00:30:28.759 --> 00:30:32.680
makes sense exactly, and it's and it's that's why not
538
00:30:32.839 --> 00:30:34.160
people are like, oh, well what should I do?
539
00:30:34.200 --> 00:30:37.799
It's like, well, not every strategy fits one.
540
00:30:37.920 --> 00:30:41.079
It's very different, you know, and.
541
00:30:42.720 --> 00:30:44.880
But it's again knowing the brand at the end of
542
00:30:44.920 --> 00:30:48.559
the day, just staying on brand, you know, it is
543
00:30:48.920 --> 00:30:51.599
what matters. There's a mentor of mine who you know,
544
00:30:51.759 --> 00:30:55.519
had a colleague that they worked with who had I
545
00:30:55.559 --> 00:30:59.119
think a couple of thousand Instagram followers. Their videos never
546
00:30:59.160 --> 00:31:02.119
got more than a thousand and views. They were making
547
00:31:02.160 --> 00:31:07.359
over a million dollars all via Instagram because they serviced
548
00:31:07.559 --> 00:31:11.559
a very specific Niche answered very specific questions on social
549
00:31:11.599 --> 00:31:15.039
media and got those people to go Oh, got into
550
00:31:15.079 --> 00:31:18.839
the DMS boom sale sale, sales sale because her services
551
00:31:18.839 --> 00:31:21.680
were like, you know, thirty to fifty thousand dollars a pop.
552
00:31:24.200 --> 00:31:25.960
Yeah, listen.
553
00:31:26.079 --> 00:31:27.880
For those that are tuned in, I think this is
554
00:31:28.000 --> 00:31:31.400
like a condensed version of a masterclass.
555
00:31:31.440 --> 00:31:32.759
That's what I'll say.
556
00:31:33.079 --> 00:31:35.440
Say so I appreciate that.
557
00:31:35.599 --> 00:31:36.680
I'll take the compliment.
558
00:31:37.079 --> 00:31:39.400
Yeah, because you're a straight shooting you're putting the cards
559
00:31:39.440 --> 00:31:40.960
on the table. And for those of you that are
560
00:31:40.960 --> 00:31:44.079
tuned in, you are tuned into the shift. I'm Catherine
561
00:31:44.160 --> 00:31:47.440
here with Jake with Creative Minds. He's the CEO of
562
00:31:47.480 --> 00:31:50.000
the company. He too, also has a podcast show, and
563
00:31:50.039 --> 00:31:51.519
I want him to talk about that, and also you
564
00:31:51.519 --> 00:31:54.079
should follow his podcast show. There was something else that
565
00:31:54.119 --> 00:31:56.200
I saw on your LinkedIn page. And as we wind
566
00:31:56.240 --> 00:31:58.720
down the segment, we can talk about this. It said
567
00:31:58.880 --> 00:32:02.920
collaboration and networking is the backbone of filmmaking and backbone
568
00:32:02.960 --> 00:32:07.720
of business overall. Too talk about networking, how you've navigated
569
00:32:07.759 --> 00:32:10.039
through different networking experiences.
570
00:32:12.119 --> 00:32:12.759
I think.
571
00:32:14.839 --> 00:32:17.240
I think networking is something that everybody is always figuring
572
00:32:17.279 --> 00:32:25.960
out the worst I'll go more on worst actions first.
573
00:32:26.079 --> 00:32:30.519
The worst actions is trying to get something from somebody.
574
00:32:30.680 --> 00:32:33.599
To be honest, the best action is be a freaking
575
00:32:33.680 --> 00:32:38.759
human being. Create Like, I look at networking as like,
576
00:32:39.000 --> 00:32:42.279
is this somebody I want as a friend, as a colleague?
577
00:32:43.519 --> 00:32:44.720
Do I like the person?
578
00:32:45.400 --> 00:32:50.480
If I go ooh, actually they could be a freaking trillionaire.
579
00:32:50.799 --> 00:32:52.880
But if I'm like, I don't actually like this person,
580
00:32:52.880 --> 00:32:55.240
they give me weird vibes, they like, they don't listen
581
00:32:55.279 --> 00:33:00.599
to me, they don't ask me any questions. This is
582
00:33:00.599 --> 00:33:04.839
not a relationship I want. If they don't, they don't
583
00:33:04.839 --> 00:33:08.240
grant me any importance. I'm like, this is gonna be
584
00:33:08.240 --> 00:33:10.960
a very one sided, weird relationship. You know, I have
585
00:33:11.119 --> 00:33:16.640
met a lot of successful people and on the flip side,
586
00:33:16.640 --> 00:33:21.799
it's like on that side, it's you know, like, how
587
00:33:21.839 --> 00:33:24.480
can you help them? And be like, oh, I'll get
588
00:33:24.480 --> 00:33:26.960
you coffee, And I love this from Alex Mosey's like
589
00:33:27.000 --> 00:33:29.480
getting me coffee, I have seventeen people who can do
590
00:33:29.519 --> 00:33:31.720
that in my company.
591
00:33:31.880 --> 00:33:34.279
That's not gonna help me. Me getting lunch with you
592
00:33:34.400 --> 00:33:38.039
is not gonna help me. Like, that's not.
593
00:33:39.759 --> 00:33:42.440
You know, yeah, shoot your shot and ask see if
594
00:33:42.480 --> 00:33:46.880
you can. You know, I've been very fortunate, but like that,
595
00:33:47.000 --> 00:33:47.640
you know, three.
596
00:33:47.480 --> 00:33:50.039
Degrees of separation, Hey do you know somebody? You know?
597
00:33:50.240 --> 00:33:52.680
Like I'm right now looking to fill a bunch of
598
00:33:52.720 --> 00:33:55.960
roles in my company. And so I literally went to
599
00:33:56.000 --> 00:33:58.559
my direct network and I was like, hey, I don't
600
00:33:58.559 --> 00:34:00.480
know if this is what you're doing these days, but like,
601
00:34:00.559 --> 00:34:02.759
this is what I'm looking for. And I had multiple
602
00:34:02.799 --> 00:34:04.559
people who went, no, that's not what I'm doing. And
603
00:34:04.599 --> 00:34:06.839
I go, great, who do you know? Because you do
604
00:34:06.960 --> 00:34:07.519
this role?
605
00:34:08.320 --> 00:34:10.880
Who do you know who does that? And then they're
606
00:34:10.880 --> 00:34:11.960
linking me up with people.
607
00:34:12.840 --> 00:34:16.320
And because of that, there's already that instant like oh
608
00:34:16.360 --> 00:34:17.760
you know this person, you know this person like you,
609
00:34:18.039 --> 00:34:20.760
we already know, we're kind of along that same wavelength
610
00:34:21.360 --> 00:34:24.599
of people, rather than like I don't know you at all,
611
00:34:25.079 --> 00:34:29.719
you know, so networking being and then there's an aspect
612
00:34:29.760 --> 00:34:32.320
of just like be willing to ask.
613
00:34:33.920 --> 00:34:37.079
And be willing to be You're putting me on.
614
00:34:37.000 --> 00:34:38.599
The spot of like these are This is not a
615
00:34:38.639 --> 00:34:41.199
question I typically get, So I'm like, oh, what are I?
616
00:34:41.719 --> 00:34:47.239
What have I done? That's successful? Arguably the hardest thing.
617
00:34:47.079 --> 00:34:50.639
That I've had to do, because it is for anybody
618
00:34:50.639 --> 00:34:53.679
who's ambitious, I think it comes.
619
00:34:54.519 --> 00:34:57.119
It's the opposite, which is to be humble.
620
00:34:59.119 --> 00:35:01.679
You know, to page out of Kendrick Lamar's book and
621
00:35:01.719 --> 00:35:04.840
you know, sit down, be humble. Uh.
622
00:35:05.239 --> 00:35:10.079
You know where you want to not look like the
623
00:35:10.119 --> 00:35:11.000
small guy in the room.
624
00:35:12.119 --> 00:35:15.639
Everybody who who is working on their business wanting to
625
00:35:15.920 --> 00:35:19.119
be big. You don't want to look like the least
626
00:35:19.159 --> 00:35:21.440
experienced guy in the room. You want to you wanna
627
00:35:21.679 --> 00:35:24.199
like no, no, no, yeah, yeah, I know my ship,
628
00:35:24.760 --> 00:35:25.760
Yeah it's.
629
00:35:25.800 --> 00:35:27.159
It's yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah.
630
00:35:27.199 --> 00:35:27.239
No.
631
00:35:27.320 --> 00:35:28.719
I'm legit. I'm legit.
632
00:35:29.519 --> 00:35:34.679
And the more you can confidently, I'm not saying don't
633
00:35:34.719 --> 00:35:35.320
be confident.
634
00:35:35.400 --> 00:35:36.480
What I'm saying is.
635
00:35:36.719 --> 00:35:40.760
You don't have to posture yourself and being like I
636
00:35:40.800 --> 00:35:44.039
have achieved what I've achieved, I'm looking to gain more.
637
00:35:44.760 --> 00:35:45.599
What can I learn?
638
00:35:47.079 --> 00:35:49.960
And the biggest power when talking to people is ask
639
00:35:50.119 --> 00:35:53.960
questions and shut up. The more questions you can ask
640
00:35:54.000 --> 00:35:56.519
and the to be honest, the less you can tell
641
00:35:56.559 --> 00:36:00.199
about yourself is a stronger skill set. Now there is
642
00:36:00.199 --> 00:36:02.480
a time and place to be able to be like, well,
643
00:36:02.559 --> 00:36:05.400
yes you know, let me tell.
644
00:36:05.239 --> 00:36:05.760
You about me.
645
00:36:06.239 --> 00:36:13.360
But as hard as it is, make sure your conversations
646
00:36:13.519 --> 00:36:20.159
are more questions and listening than self promotion and self grandizing.
647
00:36:22.079 --> 00:36:25.599
You've given network and a brand new definition. I feel
648
00:36:25.719 --> 00:36:28.800
just like when you were talking about branding, you gave
649
00:36:28.840 --> 00:36:32.039
it a beautiful definition. And same thing with the networking,
650
00:36:32.719 --> 00:36:35.719
because we know we need a network, but what is networking?
651
00:36:35.760 --> 00:36:36.960
And what I.
652
00:36:36.880 --> 00:36:40.599
Heard from you is you have to make sure whoever
653
00:36:40.639 --> 00:36:43.440
you're networking with, do you even genuinely connect.
654
00:36:43.119 --> 00:36:45.320
With this person. That was a big takeaway from.
655
00:36:45.119 --> 00:36:48.039
Me because sometimes you know, you could be in rooms
656
00:36:48.039 --> 00:36:50.480
and spaces or someone said, well you if you if
657
00:36:50.480 --> 00:36:52.480
you're gonna make it, you gotta make sure you know
658
00:36:52.599 --> 00:36:54.800
this person, but do you connect with that? That's one
659
00:36:54.840 --> 00:36:59.559
of my big takeaways as I heard you share. For
660
00:36:59.639 --> 00:37:05.000
those listening, listen, this has been an impromptu masterclass. So
661
00:37:05.320 --> 00:37:07.480
what I suggest for everyone to do is save this
662
00:37:07.519 --> 00:37:09.440
podcast and hit the replay. I know I'm going to
663
00:37:09.519 --> 00:37:11.440
hit the replay because I believe it's a lot of
664
00:37:11.519 --> 00:37:14.239
nuggets that we all can take away.
665
00:37:13.960 --> 00:37:15.000
From to implement.
666
00:37:15.639 --> 00:37:17.800
Third quarter's coming around. I mean, I'm sorry, the fourth
667
00:37:17.880 --> 00:37:19.519
quarter is going to be coming around the corner. How
668
00:37:19.559 --> 00:37:22.239
are we going to close out twenty twenty six? You know,
669
00:37:22.320 --> 00:37:24.960
we all got to be working on ourselves, and Jake
670
00:37:25.119 --> 00:37:29.679
is giving us, I believe, definitions, but principles, really principles
671
00:37:29.679 --> 00:37:33.480
that we can live by personally but also with our business.
672
00:37:33.519 --> 00:37:38.360
And you know, let's talk about one more jem drop
673
00:37:38.480 --> 00:37:40.679
will come on more because it's been the thing that
674
00:37:40.719 --> 00:37:43.480
I've been trying to tell myself recently, which is one
675
00:37:43.519 --> 00:37:45.599
percent better every day to make it into.
676
00:37:45.400 --> 00:37:51.559
The one percent? M Yeah, and you have to be
677
00:37:51.679 --> 00:37:55.119
willing to and I say you as in the mirror.
678
00:37:55.639 --> 00:37:59.639
Yeah, you know, this is very much a statement to
679
00:37:59.679 --> 00:38:04.039
myself as it is to anybody listening, which is I
680
00:38:04.039 --> 00:38:07.719
I keep forcing myself to be willing for it to
681
00:38:07.800 --> 00:38:14.559
take longer, and the willingness for it to take time
682
00:38:14.679 --> 00:38:17.119
to do it, the more guarantee.
683
00:38:16.639 --> 00:38:17.920
The success will occur.
684
00:38:18.840 --> 00:38:19.440
Yeah.
685
00:38:19.480 --> 00:38:24.320
And it is the just the aspect of like, it's
686
00:38:24.400 --> 00:38:28.360
going to be harder, it's going to take longer, and
687
00:38:28.599 --> 00:38:33.280
you just have to be willing to understand that, and
688
00:38:33.360 --> 00:38:35.639
as in you, as an I I have been having
689
00:38:35.639 --> 00:38:38.559
to more and more understand that. It's just it's about
690
00:38:38.599 --> 00:38:42.480
one percent better every week, one percent better, one percent better.
691
00:38:42.760 --> 00:38:46.079
Eventually that's all adds up and you're in the one percent.
692
00:38:45.760 --> 00:38:46.599
Of whatever.
693
00:38:47.840 --> 00:38:50.360
Category of percentages you want to be in, whether it's wealth,
694
00:38:50.400 --> 00:38:54.840
whether it's your industry, whether it's in sports, this, that, whatever,
695
00:38:56.199 --> 00:38:59.400
you know, and it's but it's that willingness for it
696
00:38:59.480 --> 00:39:02.519
to just incrementally get there.
697
00:39:03.119 --> 00:39:05.480
Yeah, as you were sharing, I was thinking about compound
698
00:39:05.559 --> 00:39:10.000
interest and so you know, working on yourself getting better
699
00:39:10.079 --> 00:39:13.039
one percent every day every week, and it grows and
700
00:39:13.079 --> 00:39:14.559
it compounds over time.
701
00:39:15.519 --> 00:39:19.119
And that's the biggest example I use for social media marketing. Look,
702
00:39:19.400 --> 00:39:24.719
your organic social is literally the equivalent of compound interest.
703
00:39:25.519 --> 00:39:28.480
That's the example I constantly use on podcasts and on
704
00:39:28.519 --> 00:39:30.639
my own social when I when I talk about it.
705
00:39:30.599 --> 00:39:31.320
Because.
706
00:39:32.559 --> 00:39:37.000
It's going to grow slowly. You look at every single person.
707
00:39:37.159 --> 00:39:42.960
Mister Beast, the largest YouTuber in the planet is did
708
00:39:43.039 --> 00:39:49.840
this and now he's gaining you know, millions of followers
709
00:39:49.920 --> 00:39:50.719
every day.
710
00:39:52.400 --> 00:39:56.519
But he started to zero, just like all of us wealth.
711
00:39:56.800 --> 00:40:01.559
Social marketing business it all is actual potential. But again
712
00:40:01.599 --> 00:40:03.800
that's where I have to remind myself. It's just one
713
00:40:03.840 --> 00:40:07.840
percent every day. So good, do a post today on
714
00:40:07.840 --> 00:40:12.480
one platform. Good, just do another post tomorrow, and then
715
00:40:12.519 --> 00:40:16.519
another post. Eventually it'll be two posts, or eventually you'll
716
00:40:16.519 --> 00:40:18.280
have an assistant to be able to do the post
717
00:40:18.360 --> 00:40:21.480
for you. Eventually you'll just you know, be able to
718
00:40:21.599 --> 00:40:23.440
delegate and expand and expand.
719
00:40:23.719 --> 00:40:24.320
And this is a.
720
00:40:24.400 --> 00:40:29.440
Nuts speaking of podcasts, and this is beautifully said. Listen
721
00:40:29.480 --> 00:40:32.440
for those that's tuned in, share Share, Share, and when
722
00:40:32.440 --> 00:40:35.000
you share, you could just say one percent, one percent
723
00:40:35.039 --> 00:40:37.679
better every day, whatever, or you can take another golden
724
00:40:37.760 --> 00:40:40.239
nugget that you heard and when you share this post,
725
00:40:40.360 --> 00:40:42.159
drop the nugget you do it that way, drop the
726
00:40:42.239 --> 00:40:45.119
nugget that you connected with the most when you share this,
727
00:40:45.239 --> 00:40:47.119
when you text this link, when you put it on
728
00:40:47.199 --> 00:40:49.880
your social media page. But I want us to talk
729
00:40:49.920 --> 00:40:53.480
about your podcast show, Move Faster. Tell everyone how can
730
00:40:53.480 --> 00:40:54.960
they can plug into your show?
731
00:40:55.760 --> 00:40:58.639
So yeah, I have a podcast called Move Faster. It
732
00:40:58.760 --> 00:41:01.760
is a little bit more direct towards artists because it
733
00:41:01.840 --> 00:41:05.239
was the show that I wish I had a decade ago.
734
00:41:05.360 --> 00:41:08.000
I'm sure there's other shows like this that exist, but
735
00:41:09.599 --> 00:41:12.840
you know, it's a little bit of based around just
736
00:41:12.920 --> 00:41:17.599
my my lessons and learnings. So it's it's I've been
737
00:41:17.639 --> 00:41:20.599
kind of doing on and off for years, talk about
738
00:41:20.639 --> 00:41:23.159
you know again just trying to get one percent better
739
00:41:23.199 --> 00:41:28.519
every day and where it's but it's similar to you know,
740
00:41:28.599 --> 00:41:31.719
Ale Tramos is the game in that respect, where it's
741
00:41:31.760 --> 00:41:34.320
just the lessons he's learning and the lessons he's imparting,
742
00:41:34.679 --> 00:41:38.079
and it's you know, the lessons I'm learning and imparting
743
00:41:38.119 --> 00:41:43.480
to artists about the business side, because the I look
744
00:41:43.559 --> 00:41:47.400
at being an artist is very much being an entrepreneur.
745
00:41:47.480 --> 00:41:50.480
Being an entrepreneur is being an artist because you know,
746
00:41:50.519 --> 00:41:52.960
you're putting something there that's never been there before. That's
747
00:41:53.000 --> 00:41:55.440
all an artist does is creating a future and creating
748
00:41:55.519 --> 00:41:58.760
art that's never been created before, and entrepreneurs creating a
749
00:41:58.760 --> 00:42:02.079
business and creating job and creating money that's never been
750
00:42:02.119 --> 00:42:09.760
there before. So you know, it's my entrepreneurial lessons that
751
00:42:10.079 --> 00:42:14.719
hopefully up and coming artists UH can listen to take
752
00:42:14.760 --> 00:42:18.519
part in and with the basic philosophy that most problems
753
00:42:18.519 --> 00:42:19.840
can be solved by just moving faster.
