TIETOJA TÄSTÄ JAKSOSTA
She was a respected labor and delivery nurse, a devoted wife, and a mother of three young children. But on January 24, 2023, an unimaginable tragedy unfolded inside the Clancy family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts home.
In this episode, we examine the case of Lindsay Clancy, who is accused of killing her children—five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan—before attempting to take her own life.
As Lindsay’s trial approaches, prosecutors argue that her actions were deliberate and planned, pointing to the takeout errand that left her alone with the children, her internet searches, and the method used in the killings. Her defense presents a dramatically different account: that Lindsay was suffering from postpartum psychosis, hallucinations, medication complications, and a possible undiagnosed bipolar disorder after repeatedly seeking psychiatric help.
Was this an intentional act of murder, or the catastrophic result of a severe mental-health crisis that went unrecognized despite months of warning signs?
We explore Lindsay’s documented mental-health decline in anticipation of her trial that begins Monday, July 20th, the prosecution’s evidence, the defense’s claims that the medical system failed the entire Clancy family, and the difficult questions surrounding mental illness, criminal responsibility, and postpartum psychiatric care.
This episode discusses the deaths of children, suicide, and severe postpartum mental illness. Listener discretion is strongly advised.
