Resident Evil (2026) - Zach Cregger’s Life of Bryan

Zach Cregger, coming off Weapons, reboots the long-running survival horror series with this lean, gory take set during a viral outbreak in Raccoon City. The story follows medical courier Bryan (Austin Abrams), who is sent to deliver a package to the city’s hospital and instead has to fight his way through mutating monsters, counting bullets and making the wrong calls as he goes. Zach Cherry, Kali Reis and Paul Walter Hauser appear in supporting roles.

We discuss whether this finally feels like a Resident Evil movie rather than another Alice-style action film, how well the comedy and body horror sit together, and why an ordinary, out-of-his-depth lead works better than a gung-ho hero. Guest Jon Dance joins us with a player’s perspective on how closely it sticks to the games.
