The Tampa Bay Lightning improved to 7-2 with an impressive 6-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights, and on today's episode of Lightning Power Lunch, Dave Mishkin and Greg Linnelli break down a statement win in Las Vegas. While the final score looks lopsided, the guys explain why this game was much closer than it appeared and why Andrei Vasilevskiy was the biggest reason Tampa Bay left Vegas with two points.
The show dives into Vasilevskiy's spectacular performance, the Lightning's puck-management issues against one of the NHL's top teams, and how Tampa Bay was able to capitalize on Vegas mistakes while overcoming some of their own. Plus, a deeper look at the power play's continued progress, the penalty kill's strong night, and why the Lightning's stars delivered when it mattered most.
Of course, the night belonged to Nikita Kucherov, who tied Steven Stamkos for the franchise points record with a shorthanded breakaway goal and another dominant offensive performance. The guys discuss Kucherov's hockey IQ, his growing impact on the season, and why another historic moment appears imminent.
They also examine strong performances from Anthony Cirelli, Brandon Hagel, John Carlson, and Victor Hedman, discuss the lineup decisions involving Dominic James and Max Crozier, and preview a challenging upcoming matchup against the Colorado Avalanche.
