044 - The Commitments ("Viking Dave") (w/ Christopher Brown)

WEBVTT
1
00:00:00.480 --> 00:00:05.559
Be cool, Daddy who Because Hell
is a musical. Hell is a musical
2
00:00:06.040 --> 00:00:17.160
musical musical stuff whatchable to other people
that you need but you have to do
3
00:00:17.399 --> 00:00:24.559
with anywhere. It's stuff. The
musical musical musical with Hills ends good,
4
00:00:37.079 --> 00:00:39.679
Hello, and Welcome to Hell is
a musical where the road to Hell is
5
00:00:39.679 --> 00:00:43.679
paid with choreographed and rasmat has intentions. I'm Scott, I'm Lel's and I'm
6
00:00:43.679 --> 00:00:47.759
recovering from a really bad cold,
but I'm still funny. I assure you,
7
00:00:48.359 --> 00:00:57.200
has it impacted your soul? What
has it impacted your soul? Because
8
00:00:57.200 --> 00:01:02.240
we're talking about soul music. I
don't like face. How dare you?
9
00:01:03.439 --> 00:01:10.719
What if they turned this into a
fish cover band? Today? That wasn't
10
00:01:11.239 --> 00:01:15.159
today? We watched the nineteen ninety
one musical comedy drama Thy Commitments, and
11
00:01:15.239 --> 00:01:19.359
who did we watch it with?
We watched it in the comfort of our
12
00:01:19.400 --> 00:01:23.200
own homes, but in spirit,
we watched it with our good friend Christopher
13
00:01:23.239 --> 00:01:27.079
Brown, who's back for yet another
Alan Parker film. Oh Hello, and
14
00:01:27.400 --> 00:01:30.920
I sincerely hope that you two mean
this one as an apology for the last
15
00:01:32.000 --> 00:01:34.599
Alan Parker film that I had to
watch. Let's Do bugs him? Alone
16
00:01:34.599 --> 00:01:42.719
again. Oh, if you do
again that, I won't be blackout,
17
00:01:42.799 --> 00:01:49.840
drunken angry. They're out of paddle
car thing. I think one way or
18
00:01:49.879 --> 00:01:53.680
another, you'll be able to promise
your anger. These kids are. They're
19
00:01:53.719 --> 00:02:01.120
assholes, their cream pies. So
I have a one kid, he's the
20
00:02:01.239 --> 00:02:06.760
leader. That's the leader. That
kid. So I actually, Lily Pad,
21
00:02:06.799 --> 00:02:10.599
I have some information from a previous
episode. We did um that CBE
22
00:02:10.759 --> 00:02:15.960
was not on. But oh for
yesterday, you know how, we were
23
00:02:15.000 --> 00:02:20.520
trying to figure out why coca cola
and cigarettes don't exist in that world.
24
00:02:21.240 --> 00:02:25.919
Why is that I found out the
answer. It's because is the answer gonna
25
00:02:25.960 --> 00:02:30.919
be really stupid? Yes, please
continue. It's because John Lennon and Paul
26
00:02:31.000 --> 00:02:38.240
McCartney met as teenage kids over a
Coca cola and cigarettes to start a band.
27
00:02:39.360 --> 00:02:44.639
You don't say that's true to word. That is indeed really stupid.
28
00:02:44.879 --> 00:02:52.120
Yep, because those definitely existed before
John Lennon and Paul McCartney were even invented.
29
00:02:53.879 --> 00:02:59.879
Yeah. So, uh, that's
a little fun fact that I found.
30
00:03:00.120 --> 00:03:07.560
Doubt it's not that fun, No, it's not so the commitments Alan
31
00:03:07.680 --> 00:03:15.120
Parkers, I guess apology for bugsy
Malone I mean, it's a belated apology
32
00:03:15.159 --> 00:03:19.280
because it wasn't bugsy Malone, like
almost a decade before this. More than
33
00:03:19.280 --> 00:03:22.280
that, right, yeah, more
than that? Oh, yes, I
34
00:03:22.360 --> 00:03:25.919
mean and after bugsy Malone. According
to Wikipedia, we also had Midnight Express,
35
00:03:27.280 --> 00:03:30.159
Fame, Shoot the Moon, Pink, Floyd the Wall, Birdie,
36
00:03:30.319 --> 00:03:32.919
Angel Heart, Mississippi Burning, Come
See the Paradise, and then the Commitments.
37
00:03:34.879 --> 00:03:38.599
Yeah, it sounds like that is
that's very weird filmography. So that's
38
00:03:38.680 --> 00:03:42.800
that's quite a long that's quite a
long gap before they were just like I
39
00:03:43.639 --> 00:03:49.919
should I should say something. That
is his apology for What's Birdie? Is
40
00:03:50.280 --> 00:03:54.560
that the the overseas title for follow
That bird All? The cover of Birdie
41
00:03:54.560 --> 00:04:03.400
wooks fan fucking pastic please Matthew Modine
and Nicholas Cage. Oh, I know
42
00:04:03.439 --> 00:04:08.280
what Bertie has. Never mind.
As soon as you said, Nicholas Cage,
43
00:04:08.439 --> 00:04:11.879
I remember what Bertie is. I
just see one of them wearing wings,
44
00:04:11.960 --> 00:04:16.040
jumping off of a cliff and it
looks incredible. I'm pretty sure that's
45
00:04:16.519 --> 00:04:20.360
that's. That's Matthew Modine trying to
get away from Nicholas Cage. Did Garry,
46
00:04:20.399 --> 00:04:23.839
where are you going? You ever? Said? The video of the
47
00:04:23.879 --> 00:04:28.360
guy, the French inventor who invented
wings for flying, and I tested themuff
48
00:04:28.360 --> 00:04:33.800
of the Eiffel Tower. U it
didn't go instantly. Yes, yes,
49
00:04:34.759 --> 00:04:39.759
I don't imagine it did. Is
that what in kick Ass that's based on
50
00:04:39.879 --> 00:04:43.600
when the guy jumps off the building
with the wings and everyone thinks he's gonna
51
00:04:43.600 --> 00:04:46.439
fly and he just goes straight down. I would assume so, because yeah,
52
00:04:46.439 --> 00:04:50.279
it's it's interesting because it's very very
old. It's from probably like the
53
00:04:50.279 --> 00:04:56.920
eighteen eighties or something, and there
is video of it readily available. Well,
54
00:04:56.959 --> 00:04:59.079
I mean, I mean it shows
it from a distance. You see
55
00:04:59.079 --> 00:05:01.279
the guy jump and then like hit
the ground. You don't, you don't
56
00:05:01.319 --> 00:05:05.319
actually see anything. You just see
the motion of him going down and just
57
00:05:05.720 --> 00:05:10.199
you have that bag up, Chris, Chris? Does he get back up?
58
00:05:10.720 --> 00:05:15.439
Chumbawamba was not singing about him.
I don't think so. Why don't
59
00:05:15.439 --> 00:05:19.160
you tell us so? The force
of gravity to keep him kept him down?
60
00:05:19.720 --> 00:05:24.160
Yeah? Yeah, I don't think
there are any more wagger drinks or
61
00:05:24.199 --> 00:05:26.759
any other kind of drinks in fact, in horse drinks, yes, or
62
00:05:26.800 --> 00:05:30.240
whiskey drink. He's only going to
be singing psalms reminding him of bad times.
63
00:05:30.519 --> 00:05:31.959
Yeah no, I'd say he pissed
that night away. His FID has
64
00:05:32.000 --> 00:05:35.399
run his course. Yeah, please
can we continue with the podcast? Chris
65
00:05:35.399 --> 00:05:40.920
tell us what the Commitments is about. The Commitments is about a young Irish
66
00:05:41.040 --> 00:05:44.360
upstart who wants to be involved in
the music industry and decides that the best
67
00:05:44.399 --> 00:05:47.279
way to do so would be to
form Bob Geldoff. And that boy was
68
00:05:47.319 --> 00:05:50.480
Bob Geldoff, And the best way
to do that would be to form a
69
00:05:50.519 --> 00:05:57.000
soul band from friends and other weirdos
in his town. Yeah. So,
70
00:05:57.360 --> 00:06:04.000
um, there's kind of an unspoken
like, I mean, maybe that wasn't
71
00:06:04.000 --> 00:06:10.959
necessarily Alan Parker's intention, but the
unspoken sort of understory going on here is
72
00:06:10.959 --> 00:06:17.240
that this is basically the story of
Dexas Midnight Runners DEXI basically is it?
73
00:06:17.279 --> 00:06:21.399
Because that, I mean, I
think so they've they've basically started out as
74
00:06:21.480 --> 00:06:27.160
like, you know, working class
white Europeans, like, let's form a
75
00:06:27.160 --> 00:06:30.720
soul band for their first album,
before you know, they went all before
76
00:06:30.720 --> 00:06:34.240
they went all heavy into like folk
music with the second album that was the
77
00:06:34.240 --> 00:06:36.759
one with come on, Eileen on
it is that? Why? Halfway through
78
00:06:36.759 --> 00:06:43.160
it? Because come on, Elie, there's there's not even anyone in the
79
00:06:43.160 --> 00:06:46.319
film named Eileen. Yeah, there's
a there. There is a guy named
80
00:06:46.360 --> 00:06:50.680
Outspan, though Outspan is the best
character name I have come across in a
81
00:06:50.800 --> 00:06:58.600
very long time. Was that the
original Dremmor? Oh that's Glen Hansard.
82
00:06:59.439 --> 00:07:01.079
Yeah, yeah, the guy you
said looked like a spin doctor, and
83
00:07:01.120 --> 00:07:06.079
I said, looked like weird al
weird al and now in and now in
84
00:07:06.160 --> 00:07:11.680
retrospect, I think he looks a
bit more like Kenny g. But that
85
00:07:11.800 --> 00:07:15.480
is our good buddy Glen Hansard from
Once and that really sad scene and syran
86
00:07:16.120 --> 00:07:21.079
so saddest fucking song ever. Apparently
he had such a bad experience working on
87
00:07:21.120 --> 00:07:26.560
this film and classed with Allen Parker
so much that he didn't even see the
88
00:07:26.600 --> 00:07:30.399
full film until fairly recently, in
the grand scheme of things like, he
89
00:07:30.480 --> 00:07:35.120
just couldn't bring himself to watch it. Long after Alan Parker was dead.
90
00:07:38.319 --> 00:07:40.959
I guess not that long. He
died in twenty I guess not that long.
91
00:07:41.000 --> 00:07:46.199
He died in twenty twenty. Yeah, so my dad loves the commitments.
92
00:07:47.079 --> 00:07:53.480
He had the soundtrack, and as
I was telling you guys, I'm
93
00:07:53.519 --> 00:07:58.879
pretty sure he went on a date
night with my mom to see this when
94
00:07:58.879 --> 00:08:03.279
it came out, or he rented
it from Blockbuster. They did the thing
95
00:08:03.319 --> 00:08:09.600
where we got to rent our stupid
kids movie, and he rented The Commitments,
96
00:08:09.600 --> 00:08:13.839
so we probably rented like my girl
and Thomas j couldn't find his glasses
97
00:08:13.360 --> 00:08:20.079
and no, not the beast,
Thomas Jay, not the beast, his
98
00:08:20.279 --> 00:08:28.079
glasses. He can't see without his
glasses, and they probably rent They probably
99
00:08:28.120 --> 00:08:33.000
rented this, and my dad loved
the soundtrack so much that he went out
100
00:08:33.080 --> 00:08:35.240
right away and he bought it.
I mean, fair enough, it's a
101
00:08:35.240 --> 00:08:39.399
great soundtrack. And then he spent
all those years talking with an Irish accent,
102
00:08:39.399 --> 00:08:43.279
dressing like The Commitments. If anything, I'm sure my dad would want
103
00:08:43.279 --> 00:08:48.039
to be calm meaning who I just
have to let it be known is a
104
00:08:48.120 --> 00:08:54.200
goddamn national treasure. Everything he says
in this film is absolute gold. I
105
00:08:54.240 --> 00:08:56.519
wrote down so many quotes of his
just like this is blasphemy. Elvis wasn't
106
00:08:56.519 --> 00:09:09.200
a Cajun fuck off carrot head so
good, so Brian working out some aggression,
107
00:09:09.080 --> 00:09:13.519
and I realized the reason why my
dad loves this movie so much is
108
00:09:13.960 --> 00:09:18.720
Wider Shade of Pale is one of
his favorite songs of all Time that barely
109
00:09:18.759 --> 00:09:22.879
comes up in the movie. Yeah, they there's a scene on the organ
110
00:09:22.960 --> 00:09:26.039
and then they end the movie with
the line with skip the light fandang.
111
00:09:26.240 --> 00:09:31.279
Every time they're talking about it,
they're making fun of it kind of.
112
00:09:31.360 --> 00:09:35.559
I mean, Jimmy gets really upset
when he gets the lyrics wrong. So
113
00:09:35.639 --> 00:09:39.200
I think Jimmy likes the song,
and I think, um, what's his
114
00:09:39.279 --> 00:09:43.679
face glasses? I don't think he
got really upset about it. I think
115
00:09:43.720 --> 00:09:56.200
he corrected him Stevie, Stevie Stephen
Stephen Clifford. He kind of looked like
116
00:09:56.279 --> 00:09:58.879
Robert shom Leonard from a Death Poets. Have you ever watched the Peter seraf
117
00:10:00.159 --> 00:10:03.360
what's the show? Yeah? It's
it's fucking fantastic. If you haven't seen
118
00:10:03.399 --> 00:10:07.879
it, definitely watch it. But
there's this one recurring segment on it called
119
00:10:07.919 --> 00:10:11.519
a House of Clones, and it's
like just a bunch of Peter Saraphin and
120
00:10:11.519 --> 00:10:13.519
what's his living in a house together
like reality show style, and they're all
121
00:10:13.600 --> 00:10:18.279
named Stevie. So they're like doing
the talking head segment with one and they're
122
00:10:18.320 --> 00:10:22.080
like, so, who do you
think you're closest with? And i'd have
123
00:10:22.120 --> 00:10:24.759
to say, Stevie, And who
do you think is causing the most problems?
124
00:10:26.559 --> 00:10:35.519
Definitely Stevie. That's very good.
I think this movie, like I've
125
00:10:35.519 --> 00:10:39.919
seen it so many times, but
I think this time watching it, as
126
00:10:39.960 --> 00:10:43.240
much as I love this movie,
I got really creeped out. And it
127
00:10:43.279 --> 00:10:46.759
was all caused by Jimmy the lip. No, Joey the lip, Joey
128
00:10:46.799 --> 00:10:52.919
the lip, Joey the lips plural
Joey the lips, multiple lips, yeah,
129
00:10:52.960 --> 00:10:58.639
lips for days. Why were you
creeping out by him? Well,
130
00:10:58.759 --> 00:11:03.639
I'm I mean, there's the whole
thing with all three backup singers, but
131
00:11:05.039 --> 00:11:09.279
it's how close he gets when he
like talks to people. He leans in
132
00:11:09.639 --> 00:11:13.679
and he gets like like basically knows
to knows. He's like, so,
133
00:11:13.759 --> 00:11:18.080
here's a story about Wilson Pickett.
It's like Jesus Christ, here's a mint,
134
00:11:18.120 --> 00:11:20.399
and get the fuck away. That's
him doing his little youth pastor thing.
135
00:11:20.519 --> 00:11:22.360
I'm going to tell you about.
I mean, the person who was
136
00:11:22.440 --> 00:11:28.360
considered about Jay as us. It
was a rebel sits down in a chair
137
00:11:28.360 --> 00:11:31.279
backwards. His name was Jesus.
Guys. I want to tell you a
138
00:11:31.320 --> 00:11:35.240
story about a man who was kind
of out there, did a lot of
139
00:11:35.279 --> 00:11:37.440
things that people didn't like, but
he had a message of you know,
140
00:11:39.480 --> 00:11:45.039
multitudes. The man I'm talking about
was persecuted and eventually killed. I'm talking
141
00:11:45.080 --> 00:11:48.639
about Dracula, of course. Jesus, you know, toured with Lou Rolls
142
00:11:48.679 --> 00:11:52.919
one time. But you know someone
else, you know something, You'll never
143
00:11:52.919 --> 00:11:56.159
find someone quite like Jesus. Jesus, I used to be just like you,
144
00:11:56.919 --> 00:12:00.960
dirty, smelly, thinking I was
the Sun of God. Oh.
145
00:12:01.120 --> 00:12:05.360
Also, his whole spiel about have
you been practicing the way that I told
146
00:12:05.360 --> 00:12:11.240
you to pretending that it's you know, pretending that it's Kim Basinger's nipple.
147
00:12:11.120 --> 00:12:18.919
Yeah, Yeah, that character seems
like that. That that character definitely seems
148
00:12:18.960 --> 00:12:24.000
like a pre hashtag me Too era
character. And his mother, I'm pretty
149
00:12:24.000 --> 00:12:31.120
sure escaped from one of the seasons
of American Horror Story. Oh yes,
150
00:12:31.240 --> 00:12:35.200
my boy. He has performed with
all of them, you know, Wilson,
151
00:12:35.279 --> 00:12:41.879
Piquett, Sam Coulson, Phillips,
Ryan Mercy, Phillips, Emo Phillips,
152
00:12:43.000 --> 00:12:50.039
Phillips, Colin, I mean Phil
Collins, Phillips, Phips, Colin,
153
00:12:50.320 --> 00:12:52.480
I think you've mean Phil Collins.
It's possible. I'll think about it
154
00:12:52.519 --> 00:13:00.279
while I play violin for nobody.
No, there were there were several Phillips
155
00:13:00.279 --> 00:13:05.080
so disciple Phil Collins. Does this
remind you of a movie that we kind
156
00:13:05.120 --> 00:13:09.799
of started this podcast with street,
Yeah, very much so. The mom
157
00:13:09.840 --> 00:13:13.559
from Singh Street is Natalie, the
girl he ends up with. Ah,
158
00:13:13.960 --> 00:13:18.399
So are we don't believe that Natalie
actually becomes famous? I'm not. I'm
159
00:13:18.440 --> 00:13:22.799
not really sure how the timeline works
out. Yeah, And the whole thing
160
00:13:22.879 --> 00:13:26.840
is like he's he's not actually talking
to a real reporter at any point in
161
00:13:26.879 --> 00:13:31.279
this, So I would assume that
log is very much the same milk.
162
00:13:31.399 --> 00:13:35.080
So I don't know how they cut
a way to stuff. Well. I
163
00:13:35.120 --> 00:13:37.679
love how what's his name gets punished
for leaving the band by getting kicked in
164
00:13:37.759 --> 00:13:43.720
the head with a horse. Yeah. As a drummer, I took umbridge
165
00:13:43.720 --> 00:13:48.639
to that. Well, I kind
of felt bad for that guy because like,
166
00:13:50.320 --> 00:13:54.720
Deco was a major dick. Oh, Deco was a piece of shit.
167
00:13:54.879 --> 00:14:00.879
Yeah, and he looked like he's
And I honestly feel ad saying that,
168
00:14:01.120 --> 00:14:05.279
knowing that you know, in our
chat CEB made mention like that this
169
00:14:05.360 --> 00:14:09.440
is who you were talking about when
you said that was Irish John Green,
170
00:14:09.600 --> 00:14:11.720
Right, yes, yeah, yeah, no, it's it's it's physical.
171
00:14:13.000 --> 00:14:16.000
And if you take away the assholeshness, but keep like the like the eating
172
00:14:16.039 --> 00:14:20.919
habits and like the drinking and stuff
like, that's that's classic John Green of
173
00:14:20.960 --> 00:14:24.200
like ten years ago, fifteen years
ago. Make him a little less Northern
174
00:14:24.240 --> 00:14:31.799
Irish and more Boston Irish. Yes, okay, there's only John John Green
175
00:14:31.879 --> 00:14:33.480
would never be such a dick though. No, no, no, the
176
00:14:33.759 --> 00:14:37.159
dick aspect is not him. But
uh but you know the outgoingness, the
177
00:14:37.440 --> 00:14:43.240
like grabbing a microphone out a wedding
kind of mentality, Like I think that
178
00:14:43.279 --> 00:14:48.000
that's that's all again him ten fifteen
years ago. I was waiting for him
179
00:14:48.039 --> 00:14:50.120
to just grab the mic at the
wedding and be like, what's new,
180
00:14:50.159 --> 00:14:56.679
puss a cad whoa Have you seen
this movie before? Yeah? My dad
181
00:14:56.720 --> 00:14:58.720
loves this movie. I grew up
watching it. Why were you waiting for
182
00:14:58.759 --> 00:15:05.200
that? Then? You should know
that doesn't happen. You're such an asshole,
183
00:15:05.559 --> 00:15:09.080
Scott. Are you okay? Has
anything else been going on recently?
184
00:15:09.200 --> 00:15:16.320
Jesus Christ, fuck you. I'm
gonna get more of those emails asking if
185
00:15:16.320 --> 00:15:22.720
I'm okay, stop it, then
I have to like do another me holding
186
00:15:22.759 --> 00:15:28.960
a newspaper with the date. I'm
fine, I promise it's the Aphasia thing
187
00:15:28.960 --> 00:15:33.519
all over again. Dewey wins election. What where did he find a newspaper?
188
00:15:33.679 --> 00:15:37.080
Yeah, the complexity of having to
like show the correct date, I
189
00:15:37.120 --> 00:15:43.519
would have to print out a newspaper
like a Boston Globe online. II shure
190
00:15:43.559 --> 00:15:46.200
they would let you do it.
Did you show up at Boston Globe just
191
00:15:46.240 --> 00:15:48.919
like, hey, guys, you
can do me a quick solid And they'd
192
00:15:48.960 --> 00:15:52.840
be like, yeah, okay,
Scott, fire up the presses. Because
193
00:15:52.879 --> 00:15:58.000
because the Boston Club knows you by
name, I don't have a dollar to
194
00:15:58.000 --> 00:16:02.159
buy a physical copy. So I
drove into town at a cost of probably
195
00:16:02.200 --> 00:16:04.799
more than a dollar in gas and
certainly in parking. And I would like
196
00:16:06.000 --> 00:16:07.600
to ask you guys to print something
out for me, if you don't mind,
197
00:16:08.320 --> 00:16:11.360
fire up the presses. And they're
just like, yeah, toads,
198
00:16:11.399 --> 00:16:15.080
do you want any toast? Anyway? We also make toast here at the
199
00:16:15.120 --> 00:16:22.840
Globe, We also make toast.
Where where did that go from? I
200
00:16:22.960 --> 00:16:25.639
was just thinking it would be great
if they offered him something, and uh,
201
00:16:25.879 --> 00:16:30.399
for some reason, toast was the
first thing when you went with toast.
202
00:16:30.480 --> 00:16:34.799
Just hey, we're great, but
we have no butter. I just
203
00:16:34.840 --> 00:16:38.840
want some tepid water with you.
Just gotta get it down anyway possible.
204
00:16:38.919 --> 00:16:45.320
We recommend using water. It's not
just that it's like, oh, we
205
00:16:45.360 --> 00:16:48.600
were making some toast through the commissary
wa was of It's just oh, by
206
00:16:48.639 --> 00:16:52.240
the way, we also make toast
here. It's just for us, and
207
00:16:55.120 --> 00:17:00.360
we're also we're also a diner with
one item. We prefer to be called
208
00:17:00.360 --> 00:17:07.759
a toasterry. It's like a patisserie, but toast. What kind of toast
209
00:17:07.799 --> 00:17:12.559
do you want? Ry? Sorry, we only have white? What about
210
00:17:12.559 --> 00:17:18.440
cinnamon raising? Seriously, we said, we only have white pomper nickel.
211
00:17:18.559 --> 00:17:22.119
God damn it. You're gonna have
to leave here and go to the South
212
00:17:22.160 --> 00:17:27.039
Street diner a few blocks away.
This is not Boston Globe attitude that you
213
00:17:27.079 --> 00:17:32.480
are projecting right now. You're fired. Maybe they bring maybe they bring this
214
00:17:32.519 --> 00:17:37.400
sort of work for you, not
anybody they bring in this sort of Maybe
215
00:17:37.400 --> 00:17:40.640
they tolerate this sort of ridiculousness over
at the Boston Herald, but this is
216
00:17:40.680 --> 00:17:44.319
the boss they definitely do. Oh
yeah, no, the Harold Boston Herald
217
00:17:44.519 --> 00:17:52.599
is mug Roup beer, but the
Globe is Barks that's a good comparison.
218
00:17:52.160 --> 00:17:56.000
I can't go into too many details, but let's just say I knew various
219
00:17:56.039 --> 00:18:00.119
people who have worked at The Boston
Globe, and that place, to me,
220
00:18:00.680 --> 00:18:03.359
at least at the time, felt
like it was run by like one
221
00:18:03.400 --> 00:18:07.960
guy in five dogs. Like it
just seemed like an absolute cluster fuck over
222
00:18:07.000 --> 00:18:12.920
there. So not only they probably
making toast over there, the management probably
223
00:18:12.920 --> 00:18:17.200
doesn't even know that there's like an
underground toast ring happening under their watch.
224
00:18:18.000 --> 00:18:22.240
I like to imagine that those five
dogs actually five dogs in a human suit,
225
00:18:25.039 --> 00:18:29.400
and the one guy is just completely
oblivious. The managing editor is just
226
00:18:29.599 --> 00:18:33.880
two kids on top of each other
in the trench. Cod. Hi,
227
00:18:33.000 --> 00:18:40.559
I'm Jim Boston, and this is
this is my partner. It's just clearly
228
00:18:40.599 --> 00:18:48.400
a dog in a suit. Oh
man, Apparently the little rascals run the
229
00:18:48.400 --> 00:18:51.799
Boston Globe. I could see it
working, still waiting on those proofs.
230
00:18:51.799 --> 00:18:53.599
I'm still waiting on those proofs from
that last article or those coming in.
231
00:18:55.680 --> 00:18:56.920
I could see it working, Like, just make sure you get him in
232
00:18:56.960 --> 00:19:00.720
at the end of the week,
like the Good Place when the whole first
233
00:19:00.759 --> 00:19:04.799
season, what's the character's name?
I forget the character's name, one of
234
00:19:04.799 --> 00:19:07.400
the main four ones, the one
who at first pretends to be like a
235
00:19:07.440 --> 00:19:12.720
wise Buddhist monk oh Jason Jason,
Yeah yeah, And the whole first season
236
00:19:12.759 --> 00:19:15.359
he just pretends that that's correct,
because it is not. He's actually just
237
00:19:15.440 --> 00:19:22.599
like an idiot from Sokal And basically
he doesn't say a word, and Ted
238
00:19:22.680 --> 00:19:26.319
Danson responds to him at all times
like, oh, you're right, you
239
00:19:26.359 --> 00:19:29.599
know, silence is the best thing. So he asked some questions, gets
240
00:19:29.599 --> 00:19:32.400
nothing in response, and then thinks
he's profound. And I think that's how
241
00:19:32.440 --> 00:19:37.279
our dog manager works as well.
I love when he calms him down and
242
00:19:37.319 --> 00:19:40.519
he goes, how did you do
that? Oh, a lady at the
243
00:19:40.599 --> 00:19:45.039
clinic did it when I was having
a panic attack. So going back to
244
00:19:45.079 --> 00:19:49.480
the movie that we're here to talk
about, what is your what is your
245
00:19:49.480 --> 00:20:00.880
relationship to? I guess soul?
I like it. Yeah, my parents
246
00:20:00.000 --> 00:20:03.119
like grew up with a lot of
soul and R and B music in my
247
00:20:03.240 --> 00:20:07.400
house, so like, growing up
there was a lot of like Stevie Wonder
248
00:20:07.400 --> 00:20:11.559
and classic James Brown and that sort
of stuff. So it's not like I'm
249
00:20:11.640 --> 00:20:15.680
unfamiliar with it. But were you
like were you like Jimmy when someone would
250
00:20:15.720 --> 00:20:19.079
put jazz on, you'd be like, get the fuck out. Actually no,
251
00:20:19.240 --> 00:20:22.759
that was the other thing that played
all the time on my parents house.
252
00:20:22.839 --> 00:20:27.200
My dad is a humongous jazz buff
yeas music. Never never quite never
253
00:20:27.279 --> 00:20:33.599
quite had that hair though never quite
had the eraser head hair. That was
254
00:20:33.880 --> 00:20:37.400
his face, that Dean, that
Dean had COLEMI, yeah, no,
255
00:20:37.480 --> 00:20:42.480
the saxoph Yeah, the guy,
I said, looked like Kevin McDonald.
256
00:20:42.680 --> 00:20:45.839
Okay, so then you offered and
then you offered up two examples of Kevin's
257
00:20:45.880 --> 00:20:52.839
McDonald. So Kevin, there are
two Kevin McDonald's. There is the Kids
258
00:20:52.839 --> 00:20:56.640
in the Hall Kevin McDonald, and
then there is the filmmaker who made Last
259
00:20:56.680 --> 00:21:03.319
King of Scotland and he made that
documentary on when he Euston m The reason
260
00:21:03.480 --> 00:21:08.960
why I found this story out is
I listened to WTF with Mark Marin,
261
00:21:10.440 --> 00:21:18.519
and Mark Marin asked his wtfh Mark
Maron asked his booking agent to h get
262
00:21:19.039 --> 00:21:26.119
Kevin McDonald and Kevin McDonald. The
director shows up at this as He's like,
263
00:21:26.200 --> 00:21:27.119
who the fuck are you? He's
like, I'm Kevin McDonald. He's
264
00:21:27.160 --> 00:21:32.319
like, no, you're not,
and he's like, ah, fuck it,
265
00:21:32.480 --> 00:21:34.200
I guess I'll talk to you.
What movie did you make? Last
266
00:21:34.279 --> 00:21:38.559
King of Scotland? Never saw it? And then like a week later he
267
00:21:38.599 --> 00:21:42.400
had the other Kevin McDonald. I
was just about to ask did he eventually
268
00:21:42.400 --> 00:21:45.559
get kids in the Hall? Kevin
mc a week later? I believe if
269
00:21:45.559 --> 00:21:52.559
you check it says like Kevin McDonald
and Kevin McDonald. But ye, Kevin
270
00:21:52.640 --> 00:21:56.799
McDonald part two. But that's just
that blows my mind, Like, why
271
00:21:56.839 --> 00:22:02.839
would you think of like a guy
who is known for being a comedian,
272
00:22:03.200 --> 00:22:07.559
Why would you assume that he would
want anyone else except for the comedian with
273
00:22:07.759 --> 00:22:11.680
that same name. I don't know
he hosted the President. I think this
274
00:22:11.759 --> 00:22:18.319
was before that. I think this
was way before that for the prestige.
275
00:22:21.279 --> 00:22:26.079
But yeah, with this film,
I feel that there are moments where I
276
00:22:26.119 --> 00:22:29.880
think this movie is brilliant, and
then there are other moments that I cringe
277
00:22:29.960 --> 00:22:33.440
so hard. But I never cringe
when I see, uh, Mica,
278
00:22:34.400 --> 00:22:41.599
you mean Johnny o'green micas the street
tough who joins in on drums. Oh
279
00:22:41.680 --> 00:22:45.079
right, right, I was thinking
of Deco. One of my favorite characters
280
00:22:45.160 --> 00:22:52.319
is Mica. Yeah, he's he's
kind of he he's wonderful. He would
281
00:22:52.359 --> 00:22:57.200
he would beat up nazis the for
sure bar fight scene with him where he
282
00:22:57.799 --> 00:23:04.559
beats the shit out of the like
the Loan Sharks who are harassing um Jimmy
283
00:23:04.759 --> 00:23:11.079
Jimmy is possibly the most satisfying bar
fight scene I've seen in anything before or
284
00:23:11.160 --> 00:23:15.079
since. Yeah. I just love
how it ends with Jimmy, who's still
285
00:23:15.279 --> 00:23:18.359
had the shit kicked out of him, coming up to the stage and be
286
00:23:18.400 --> 00:23:23.240
like, Okay, let me introduce
the hardest working band. Yeah, and
287
00:23:23.279 --> 00:23:29.319
then uh yeah, just as a
drummer, I gotta say humongous respect to
288
00:23:29.480 --> 00:23:33.599
make a never lost the beat,
never lost the beat, once got off
289
00:23:33.640 --> 00:23:37.759
stage, beat the shit out of
everybody, got right back, went right
290
00:23:37.759 --> 00:23:40.640
back to where he started. I
just feel like the ongoing joke with this
291
00:23:40.759 --> 00:23:45.319
movie is they can never get Mustang
Sally right. Yeah. No, that's
292
00:23:45.359 --> 00:23:48.960
something that happens repeatedly. It's it's
very good. Yeah. Yeah. This
293
00:23:49.000 --> 00:23:53.160
is the bar fight that has the
second silliest soundtrack in in any film that
294
00:23:53.200 --> 00:23:56.640
I've ever seen. Number one,
of course, is Dirty Work. When
295
00:23:57.319 --> 00:24:06.240
Escape the Pinot Coloda songs played F
seven Street, Fat a Man, Rolling
296
00:24:06.359 --> 00:24:10.960
Stones, you just said G seven
if you're not panut good lot, you
297
00:24:11.000 --> 00:24:14.519
see a guy like swing a pool
queue across someone's back. Hey, real
298
00:24:14.599 --> 00:24:23.599
cops, can I just really quickly
like wrote, like, just sort of
299
00:24:23.599 --> 00:24:29.119
shuffle back to the whole like them
saying like jazz is for you know,
300
00:24:29.799 --> 00:24:33.079
art douchebag sort of stuff. Um, there'd be no soul music without jazz
301
00:24:33.160 --> 00:24:40.160
music. Jazz was like the prerequisite. So um, fucking fucking check yourself.
302
00:24:40.240 --> 00:24:42.640
Jimmy, Well, Lily Patt,
if if you haven't guessed, Jimmy
303
00:24:42.799 --> 00:24:49.079
is kind of a poser. If
pose you or you saying yes, he
304
00:24:49.079 --> 00:24:55.599
he kind of doesn't know what he's
talking about. Yep, He's He's literally
305
00:24:55.680 --> 00:25:00.440
the brother. He's the brother from
saying stream. He literally is the brother
306
00:25:00.440 --> 00:25:03.759
from Sin Street. It's all come
full circle. Also, uh, anyone
307
00:25:03.799 --> 00:25:11.240
else from Deco were they getting,
you know, Joe Cocker vibes? I
308
00:25:11.279 --> 00:25:18.759
was certainly getting Jim Belushi as Joe
Cocker vibes. Yeah, Cocker Cocker by
309
00:25:18.839 --> 00:25:23.400
way of meat a little bit Jim
Belushi. So I have a story for
310
00:25:23.480 --> 00:25:27.400
you. Maybe I did mean Jim
Belushi is Joe Cocker. Well, I
311
00:25:27.440 --> 00:25:33.119
think you were part of this story, Lily Pad in college our friend went
312
00:25:33.200 --> 00:25:37.559
to go see a Joe Cocker concert. Uh, that's why they missed out
313
00:25:37.640 --> 00:25:42.160
on our improv group. And he
came back, He's like, sorry,
314
00:25:42.160 --> 00:25:45.839
I missed last week. I was
out of Joe Cocker concert, and I
315
00:25:45.880 --> 00:25:49.160
go, hey, did he did
he do any covers? I get it,
316
00:25:52.079 --> 00:25:59.880
you're supposed to do it? Ha
ha ha Uh yeah, Well,
317
00:26:00.039 --> 00:26:03.880
anyway, there was there any word
on whether or not he gave everyone permission
318
00:26:03.880 --> 00:26:07.720
to leave their hat on, I
mean, don't don't leave us hanging?
319
00:26:07.759 --> 00:26:11.920
Did he play covers? I don't
know. I wasn't at that concert.
320
00:26:11.119 --> 00:26:17.640
What about the hats, guys.
I'm gonna do something a little different tonight,
321
00:26:18.160 --> 00:26:23.559
gonnas gonna rot test some new songs
in the workound. What if he
322
00:26:23.680 --> 00:26:26.880
just started singing a cover but had
no idea that it was a cover.
323
00:26:29.200 --> 00:26:33.079
I got a brand new original for
you tonight. I can't get no better
324
00:26:33.279 --> 00:26:44.880
da saddest faction, better Rollings,
do owns BANDA beta backh better band.
325
00:26:45.519 --> 00:26:52.640
I got a brand new pair roll
you got a brand new key. I
326
00:26:52.680 --> 00:26:56.440
like the idea that he doesn't know
the lyrics to these songs either, so
327
00:26:56.440 --> 00:27:00.119
he's just kind of like bumming and
buying his way through them. Oh,
328
00:27:00.480 --> 00:27:06.119
this is entirely just performed by him
acapella backing. Also that that's him going
329
00:27:06.200 --> 00:27:12.319
bad bad? WHOA would you do
if I got a pug again? You're
330
00:27:12.480 --> 00:27:21.119
never gonna keep me down? He
just combines stop thumping with will help from
331
00:27:21.119 --> 00:27:23.000
my friends. I thought you were
going in a different direction. I thought
332
00:27:23.000 --> 00:27:30.480
you were going What would you do
if I had to take a pooh stayed
333
00:27:30.599 --> 00:27:36.480
up? And wo? I had
a roommate who forgot the lyrics to that
334
00:27:36.519 --> 00:27:41.359
song? He goes, WHOA would
you do if I sang you a song?
335
00:27:42.960 --> 00:27:47.319
He just dead stop. I was
like, go on, buddy.
336
00:27:47.839 --> 00:27:52.480
Makes me think back to Ernest Stave's
Christmas and how he sang Christmas Tree,
337
00:27:52.119 --> 00:27:57.240
Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree.
338
00:28:00.160 --> 00:28:03.359
That's what I wish they did in
this movie with Mustang Sally Mustang,
339
00:28:03.519 --> 00:28:15.039
Sally Mustang, Silly Mustang, Sally
Mustang tell Sally come on, Mustang,
340
00:28:15.119 --> 00:28:22.880
come on, Sally Mustang, Sally
Bannah ban ban Uh yeah. Um,
341
00:28:23.039 --> 00:28:29.119
So I gotta talk about the entire
band as a whole. Uh? Did
342
00:28:29.160 --> 00:28:34.200
I did everyone have a favorite member
that wasn't Micca, that wasn't Micca.
343
00:28:34.480 --> 00:28:41.759
Yeah, mmmm, I did not
think of that, but now I'm I'm
344
00:28:41.799 --> 00:28:45.319
gonna think of that right now.
Who is my favorite? That wasn't Micca?
345
00:28:47.039 --> 00:28:49.160
I have a few that I think
we're all right along the same level.
346
00:28:49.759 --> 00:28:55.200
And uh one of them was Joey
the Whips. Just just getting that
347
00:28:55.240 --> 00:28:59.240
out there, Yeah, i'd say, I mean I would spend I just
348
00:28:59.359 --> 00:29:04.440
like that. The gold Tarist is
named out spans. Yeah, I Amilda,
349
00:29:04.559 --> 00:29:10.119
Natalie, and um, who is
it? I like Bernie? Yeah,
350
00:29:10.160 --> 00:29:11.720
I like Bernie too. They're all
great. Oh yeah, Bernie's um.
351
00:29:11.720 --> 00:29:15.200
Bronna Gallagher, she's great, She's
fantastic. She's going back to the
352
00:29:15.200 --> 00:29:21.240
Peter Sarafanawich show. She's on that
a bunch was she was she Missus Marple
353
00:29:21.279 --> 00:29:25.759
when they did the Missus Marple thing? Yes? She was. I thought
354
00:29:25.799 --> 00:29:30.079
she liked familiar scene. Who was
she in pulp fiction Trudy? Yeah?
355
00:29:30.079 --> 00:29:33.400
I think she was the drug scene
where they have to go to the dealers
356
00:29:33.440 --> 00:29:38.119
house do the adornal one shot.
Oh she was the one who was JODI's
357
00:29:38.160 --> 00:29:44.279
friend. Yeah, the one who
wasn't Rosanna Arcat correct. So she didn't
358
00:29:44.319 --> 00:29:48.279
meet you all the way? Uh
no, she only met me halfway here.
359
00:29:48.400 --> 00:29:53.799
Here's her description on the pulp fiction
Wikipedia page. Bronna Gallagher plays Jody's
360
00:29:53.799 --> 00:29:59.440
friend Trudy, who does little but
smoke a bomb during the scene where Vincent
361
00:29:59.519 --> 00:30:07.039
revives me up, who does not
but smoke one ball. I'm guessing that
362
00:30:07.119 --> 00:30:11.359
she got cast based on this movie
because I was just thinking that, yeah,
363
00:30:11.359 --> 00:30:12.559
Tarantino probably saw her, and this
is like, oh yeah, maybe
364
00:30:12.559 --> 00:30:15.039
you could cast her in my next
movie, and uh, maybe she can
365
00:30:15.119 --> 00:30:18.480
kick off. We can see what
those feet of going with? What's going
366
00:30:18.519 --> 00:30:23.880
on with those feet? Okay for
the movie. For the movie. All
367
00:30:23.960 --> 00:30:29.400
right, Uh, I'm gonna call
you Bernie because I don't know your real
368
00:30:29.480 --> 00:30:34.119
name. Can you put your feet
in Velveta? No, God, damnit,
369
00:30:34.200 --> 00:30:37.720
Quinton, that would be great if
so. Here's how this scene works.
370
00:30:38.119 --> 00:30:41.000
Here's how this scene works. I
get to say the end word,
371
00:30:41.160 --> 00:30:48.119
and you guys don't get to get
mad Jesus and you were Velveta on your
372
00:30:48.119 --> 00:30:56.680
feet, you guys think I'd like
to think that Tarantino has like a game
373
00:30:56.720 --> 00:31:00.599
that he plays, like a party
trick where he blindfolds himself and then has
374
00:31:00.599 --> 00:31:04.599
people step in like Velvita and Pudding
and it's like that is tapioca. But
375
00:31:04.720 --> 00:31:11.240
yeah, Burt, let's see,
it has the resonance of banana, but
376
00:31:11.359 --> 00:31:15.960
it could also be vanilla. I
guess I'm just gonna have to look it
377
00:31:15.039 --> 00:31:21.279
up to find out. Oh God, oh I'm sorry, that's too far.
378
00:31:22.599 --> 00:31:26.000
Looks like it's time for the lightning
round. That's what I call it
379
00:31:26.039 --> 00:31:30.720
when I look up the pudding.
So yeah. The backup singers are Mike,
380
00:31:30.759 --> 00:31:36.279
Quentin Tarantino. Impression turned into track, Corey turned into a Corey felt
381
00:31:37.039 --> 00:31:41.960
I wasn't gonna say anything. Could
my friend Quentin sleep when your coach too?
382
00:31:45.319 --> 00:31:52.759
I don't need to ideo store in
my basement. Okay, come on,
383
00:31:52.839 --> 00:31:56.880
sleep on my couch, put your
feet up. No, Quentin Tarantino
384
00:31:56.960 --> 00:32:00.279
is a bad man. I can
explain more offline. You almost said Quintin
385
00:32:00.359 --> 00:32:04.799
Varantino. Either way, he's a
yeah, No, he's a he's a
386
00:32:04.839 --> 00:32:07.279
bad man. I can tell you
more off Mike, he's he's not just
387
00:32:07.359 --> 00:32:16.839
Quintin Tarantino, He's Quintin Varantino for
very bad clone variant yet up instead of
388
00:32:16.839 --> 00:32:22.519
putting God not not not to still
keep us off track, but like on
389
00:32:22.680 --> 00:32:27.920
like the latest episode of Freedom,
there was this very long tangent like based
390
00:32:27.920 --> 00:32:32.640
around like a misspeak about like if
someone else named Ed Begley Junior like wanted
391
00:32:32.680 --> 00:32:37.200
to be an actor, his sagnate
would have to be like Ed Begley different
392
00:32:40.359 --> 00:32:45.160
Anyway, Anyways, my three favorite
other characters are the backup singers, and
393
00:32:45.240 --> 00:32:50.880
I love how quick they turn on
each other. Yep, yeah, they're
394
00:32:50.960 --> 00:32:55.599
ruthless. Yeah. And I had
a question for everyone, and I'll be
395
00:32:55.720 --> 00:33:01.240
totally honest. This is me speaking
as an Irish American myself. Once,
396
00:33:01.480 --> 00:33:05.200
once it reached the point, like
near the end of the movie where they're
397
00:33:05.200 --> 00:33:07.839
all just screaming at each other in
the thickest of Northern Irish accents and just
398
00:33:07.920 --> 00:33:13.039
punching each other, I could only
look at that scene and just think this,
399
00:33:13.039 --> 00:33:19.759
this seems right Christmas. The only
problem is anyways, drunk enough.
400
00:33:21.279 --> 00:33:25.400
My question for you is that's a
Decco. Wasn't in the room he got
401
00:33:25.400 --> 00:33:29.119
the crap beating out of him.
He is in the alley bleeding to that,
402
00:33:29.559 --> 00:33:32.160
having trapped. I'll be honest.
I'll yeah, I'll be honest.
403
00:33:32.319 --> 00:33:37.000
I kind of chuckled, like I
don't know if this was intentional or not
404
00:33:37.319 --> 00:33:39.480
when he just started pouring trash on
him and it was just a ton of
405
00:33:39.559 --> 00:33:45.440
cabbage or something. It just reminds
me of the Simpsons. Potato man,
406
00:33:45.640 --> 00:33:50.920
where the hell have you been?
My question for you is how much you
407
00:33:50.960 --> 00:33:57.359
want to bet that Emilda's baby is
Joey the Lips and not greg Ooh,
408
00:33:58.759 --> 00:34:02.079
that's unfortunate because, as he said, they had to get married because she
409
00:34:02.160 --> 00:34:07.960
was having a baby. He's just
born with a mustache. Wait, that
410
00:34:07.039 --> 00:34:14.920
baby came out with a trumpet,
had a very shockingly calm demeanor. It's
411
00:34:14.960 --> 00:34:19.559
calling everyone brother rabbit. Yeah,
when he knocks on the door. When
412
00:34:19.840 --> 00:34:23.360
when joe Eyton hugs on the door
and it is like God bless you and
413
00:34:23.519 --> 00:34:30.280
he just has the ad in the
newspaper and his trumpet. It's like,
414
00:34:30.880 --> 00:34:35.519
okay, this is taking a turn. Also, why was this going?
415
00:34:35.840 --> 00:34:40.000
Why why would you go to his
house? Like, of all the people
416
00:34:40.199 --> 00:34:45.000
to find a different practice space,
don't go to a strange man's house who
417
00:34:45.079 --> 00:34:52.119
claims to have played with you know, yeah, a strange man whose practice
418
00:34:52.159 --> 00:34:59.840
space is a shed, a derelict
shed that Yeah, two ladders, wh
419
00:35:00.119 --> 00:35:02.000
to go up? Season? When
to go down? Seas? And remember,
420
00:35:02.519 --> 00:35:07.199
don't wear a kilt or a skirt. Yeah, one of the you
421
00:35:07.239 --> 00:35:12.400
could catch yourself on something. Yeah, Oh, I have a story for
422
00:35:12.440 --> 00:35:19.599
you. I went to uh,
no story, and you didn't do it.
423
00:35:19.639 --> 00:35:22.320
You don't get to do it.
Fuck both of you. It's too
424
00:35:22.360 --> 00:35:24.599
late to god, we did it. I hate you both. We should
425
00:35:24.599 --> 00:35:30.880
actually record a proper just decoreum a
proper stinger for this. I mean I've
426
00:35:30.920 --> 00:35:37.159
been using the exact same audio sting
like for the music. But anyway,
427
00:35:37.199 --> 00:35:40.760
what's your story? Once upon the
time go fuck yourselves? Oh? I
428
00:35:40.800 --> 00:35:45.960
love that story. My dad used
to tell me that story all the time
429
00:35:45.960 --> 00:35:52.360
when I was little. I went
to an axe throwing place this weekend and
430
00:35:52.760 --> 00:35:58.280
there was a big guy named Viking
Dave and he came out from out back
431
00:35:59.000 --> 00:36:04.960
in a giant kilt, and he
had two giant axes and he just threw
432
00:36:05.000 --> 00:36:07.079
them at the bulls eye and he
got like two bulls eyes right next to
433
00:36:07.119 --> 00:36:10.280
each other. And I'm like,
when the apocalypse comes, I want Viking
434
00:36:10.360 --> 00:36:14.920
Dave on my team. That's a
misnomer though he's wearing a kilt and claiming
435
00:36:14.960 --> 00:36:20.239
he's a Viking. Don't I don't
trust Dave. I don't trust Dave.
436
00:36:20.559 --> 00:36:23.320
I don't trust his axe throwing abilities, and he said he came from the
437
00:36:23.320 --> 00:36:25.719
eye. I think the only like
the stake. I think the only way
438
00:36:25.760 --> 00:36:30.000
that I think, the most perfect
way for that story to have ended was
439
00:36:30.039 --> 00:36:34.280
like he just throws it like bulls
eye, both takes a big swig of
440
00:36:34.320 --> 00:36:37.480
beer and just turns to like the
people's like, play my song. If
441
00:36:37.519 --> 00:36:44.840
you're like Peter Colado, play my
song, you say, I don't want
442
00:36:44.840 --> 00:36:49.920
to hear what I want to He
starts like visibly tearing up, and play
443
00:36:49.960 --> 00:36:52.559
my song. Play my song that
I play whenever I kick ass? Who
444
00:36:52.639 --> 00:37:02.800
will save your son? He came
home? That's a song I forgot him
445
00:37:02.800 --> 00:37:07.119
out until just now, Good old
Sean Colvin. Yeah, it's good anyway.
446
00:37:07.159 --> 00:37:10.639
It's replacing some basic math in my
head in terms of knowledge that I
447
00:37:10.760 --> 00:37:15.559
retained, So thank you for that. You don't you don't need to know
448
00:37:15.639 --> 00:37:21.800
quadrilaterals. What play my song?
This is the story of a girl greg
449
00:37:21.840 --> 00:37:24.559
a river and jam the whole world
that that story. I know that song.
450
00:37:24.599 --> 00:37:29.159
I know because there's an online blog
called The Daily Adventures of mixer Man,
451
00:37:29.760 --> 00:37:31.440
and it's really really funny. I
think the whole thing is still online,
452
00:37:31.800 --> 00:37:36.760
but it's by an engineer who was
producing a band that he didn't name,
453
00:37:37.280 --> 00:37:39.519
but based on clue throughout, I'm
pretty sure it's Nine Days, the
454
00:37:39.519 --> 00:37:44.800
band that did Story of a Girl. And he just talks about just the
455
00:37:44.800 --> 00:37:47.320
experience of dealing with a new band
that Alabel is like kind of excited about
456
00:37:47.360 --> 00:37:52.039
but not really and just how shitty
like day to day everything is doesn't have
457
00:37:52.079 --> 00:37:54.199
their shit together. Yeah, exactly, and he gives everyone nicknames, like
458
00:37:54.199 --> 00:37:57.800
the drummer who can't play, I
forget what his name is. Fuck,
459
00:37:57.840 --> 00:37:59.960
he gives him a name, or
the fact that he has no rhythm.
460
00:38:00.360 --> 00:38:06.159
There was Stacco, It's good stuff
and out spam out. It was just
461
00:38:06.239 --> 00:38:10.039
the commitments. Oh so one note
that I did have that opening flea market
462
00:38:10.119 --> 00:38:15.719
bit is so depressing, Like I
know that's kind of the point, but
463
00:38:15.199 --> 00:38:19.760
it just like, there's a flea
market that used to be in Lynn on
464
00:38:19.800 --> 00:38:27.760
the Lyndway right by the building nineteen
slash shot Massachusetts Merchandise Building nineteen Yeah.
465
00:38:28.760 --> 00:38:30.880
Well yeah, so that's that's a
very New England reference. And if you
466
00:38:31.480 --> 00:38:35.280
google image search it, I think
you'll probably get the picture there. But
467
00:38:35.360 --> 00:38:38.320
it was next door and shared the
show up. Yeah, it was next
468
00:38:38.360 --> 00:38:42.440
door to a place then shared a
wall with a place called the Massachusetts Merchandise
469
00:38:42.519 --> 00:38:45.880
Mart. And I know it was
called that because it was painted in enormous
470
00:38:45.960 --> 00:38:49.400
letters on the roof and if you
ever flew into Boston and the plane had
471
00:38:49.440 --> 00:38:52.960
to circle it all you would see
it from a plane, but in puff
472
00:38:53.039 --> 00:38:57.760
paint. Yeah. That place,
my friend Rick and I called the dark
473
00:38:57.800 --> 00:39:00.519
Gray Market because it was the sort
of place where, like if you needed
474
00:39:00.559 --> 00:39:07.119
to get a new inbox, Sega
master System, communion robes, and like
475
00:39:07.159 --> 00:39:10.480
a stabbing knife as opposed to like
like a cutlery knife, specifically a master
476
00:39:10.599 --> 00:39:14.440
System, not a Genesis. Yes, if you wanted to get those three
477
00:39:14.480 --> 00:39:16.519
item I thinking, I'm thinking of
a mega drive if you only, if
478
00:39:16.559 --> 00:39:20.280
you only had time to stop at
one place and eat it all three items.
479
00:39:20.360 --> 00:39:22.880
Massachusetts Merchandise smartis where you go,
and you might get mugged on your
480
00:39:22.880 --> 00:39:27.559
way out. That was less depressing
to the beginning of you guys want to
481
00:39:27.559 --> 00:39:32.400
Sega dreamcast and some apple juice.
Bad news, we're all out of apple
482
00:39:32.480 --> 00:39:36.039
juice. I don't don't know if
they all did, but that building nineteen
483
00:39:36.079 --> 00:39:38.440
served food which I don't feel comfortable. No, no, no, no,
484
00:39:38.440 --> 00:39:42.400
no, no no no no no
no no no no no no no
485
00:39:42.400 --> 00:39:50.480
no no, do not eat that
food ate there was dead? Did anyone
486
00:39:50.519 --> 00:39:54.079
recognize that like most like two out
of the three cores are in this movie.
487
00:39:54.519 --> 00:39:58.840
Yeah, I know, I did
notice that. And Andrea core I
488
00:39:58.880 --> 00:40:01.519
looked it up. She was seventeen
during this and like they became popular like
489
00:40:01.559 --> 00:40:06.039
three years later, two years later. She looks like a child in this
490
00:40:06.360 --> 00:40:08.599
and when the Chors debut as a
band, she looked like just a normal
491
00:40:08.599 --> 00:40:12.800
adult. Like the difference two or
three years made for her was insane.
492
00:40:13.639 --> 00:40:23.599
Did I leave your breathless the breathless
that's their big song? Sure is hitting
493
00:40:23.679 --> 00:40:30.000
the tracks with leave Me Breathless by
the Chords? Please? Did you guys
494
00:40:30.000 --> 00:40:34.840
have Channel one News in your school
grown up? Yes? I remember.
495
00:40:34.920 --> 00:40:38.159
They were being commercials at the time
for like whatever albums were popular at the
496
00:40:38.199 --> 00:40:42.880
time, and it was there was
some girl who was talking about her different
497
00:40:42.880 --> 00:40:45.000
family members and what albums they should
get, and she's like, my brother
498
00:40:45.079 --> 00:40:52.239
thinks the chords are dreamy. Oh
god. That girl went on to kill
499
00:40:52.400 --> 00:40:58.039
six men. We call her the
Black Widow. She also said, my
500
00:40:58.119 --> 00:41:00.360
dad must be the only person on
the play it who doesn't have hoody and
501
00:41:00.360 --> 00:41:07.480
the blowfish is cracked rear view.
My brother thinks the cores are dreamy,
502
00:41:07.559 --> 00:41:13.159
so he should get pet Your Friends
by Dishwallah. My favorite album is the
503
00:41:13.199 --> 00:41:16.199
So I Married an Axe Murder soundtrack. It has three different versions of There
504
00:41:16.199 --> 00:41:22.639
She Goes, but only one of
them is the Laws. Now play that
505
00:41:22.679 --> 00:41:29.960
track. I just wanted to if
you'll do it. Yeah, touching really
506
00:41:30.039 --> 00:41:35.400
quickly back on to like what you
mentioned about, like the flea market as
507
00:41:35.480 --> 00:41:37.840
part of a larger point, and
I know, like this is this is
508
00:41:37.920 --> 00:41:43.119
like this is just part of the
whole that was that was Ireland during that
509
00:41:43.159 --> 00:41:46.440
time, but like every time it
just cuts to like, oh, the
510
00:41:46.519 --> 00:41:51.719
kids are playing like by literally just
setting a big thing on fire or something
511
00:41:51.760 --> 00:41:54.840
like that. It's like, I
know that this is basically meant to paint
512
00:41:54.880 --> 00:41:59.559
a picture of how shitty Northern Ireland
was at the time, But holy fuck
513
00:41:59.639 --> 00:42:05.400
that was depressing. And also Ry
Girls didn't show that. No, Dairy
514
00:42:05.440 --> 00:42:09.199
Girls was just more depressing in every
other way possible. Yeah, it's interesting
515
00:42:09.199 --> 00:42:12.880
too, because it's like, on
one hand, yeah, it's depressing,
516
00:42:12.880 --> 00:42:15.840
and on the other hand, it's
like, bitch I grew up North of
517
00:42:15.920 --> 00:42:22.119
Boston, like that was our entertainment
too. Yeah, it just makes me
518
00:42:22.159 --> 00:42:23.639
think of that tweet someone put out
that just said, my friends and I
519
00:42:23.639 --> 00:42:28.760
would have killed Et with hammers.
I can tell you that much. This
520
00:42:29.360 --> 00:42:32.320
movie had one of my favorite things. If if you want a movie to
521
00:42:32.360 --> 00:42:37.719
become like my new favorite, have
a video store in it. Like when
522
00:42:37.760 --> 00:42:42.559
they when they're sitting in a video
store watching James Brown. I'm like,
523
00:42:42.599 --> 00:42:45.639
this is the greatest movie ever,
even as a kid. That's why I
524
00:42:45.679 --> 00:42:52.119
rented Last Action Hero so many times
because there is a scene in a video
525
00:42:52.239 --> 00:42:55.760
store. I just love that scene
with them watching James Brown. And you
526
00:42:55.800 --> 00:43:00.079
can see copies of Oh man,
what was what was the horror movie that
527
00:43:00.119 --> 00:43:05.760
they had the giant poster for?
Did you recognize it? CB? I
528
00:43:05.840 --> 00:43:13.280
did. I completely clopped it and
I no longer Yeah, I was like,
529
00:43:13.559 --> 00:43:16.199
uh, nice was that was that? That poster that was like you
530
00:43:16.239 --> 00:43:21.320
were scared of the fly, and
you were scared of the thing you'll be
531
00:43:21.360 --> 00:43:28.239
scared of. And what's funny is
people still talk about two of those poo
532
00:43:28.280 --> 00:43:36.760
poo man. I think the thing
that breaks my heart the most in this
533
00:43:36.800 --> 00:43:40.719
movie is how naive everyone is and
as soon as they start to get a
534
00:43:40.760 --> 00:43:46.400
little taste of fame, they just
turned into the biggest assholes. I mean
535
00:43:46.639 --> 00:43:52.360
it's not even like it's not even
like that's not fame. Man, I've
536
00:43:52.400 --> 00:43:55.280
been in a band. I know
it's not fame. I mean I mean
537
00:43:55.400 --> 00:44:01.920
like people come see them and sing
along and it basically becomes like the biggest
538
00:44:05.119 --> 00:44:08.039
I want to say, you know, thing in their lives, but if
539
00:44:08.079 --> 00:44:12.320
I say that, then I'm going
to get really sad. Well, you've
540
00:44:12.360 --> 00:44:16.480
got to remember too that their last
show was very well attended under completely false
541
00:44:16.519 --> 00:44:22.719
pretenses, which technically weren't false pretenses. No, they weren't. Um although
542
00:44:22.760 --> 00:44:27.400
they you know, they ended up
being just by nature of like Wilson Pickett
543
00:44:27.480 --> 00:44:30.199
not being able to show up in
time. But but that is why the
544
00:44:30.199 --> 00:44:32.320
place was that packed out. It
wasn't because they were becoming that huge.
545
00:44:32.360 --> 00:44:36.599
Like to date, they played like
one show like Way the Funk out of
546
00:44:36.639 --> 00:44:40.280
town and at a roller rink,
and then they played another like church fundraiser
547
00:44:40.280 --> 00:44:44.719
function that so that's like all they've
done. They haven't really that was their
548
00:44:44.760 --> 00:44:46.880
big night moment. Yeah, yeah, that was like their first big show.
549
00:44:47.079 --> 00:44:52.159
Yeah. I love or I should
say I would have loved for Wilson
550
00:44:52.199 --> 00:44:55.519
Pickett's manager to be like, sorry, we're late. You see, Wilson
551
00:44:55.599 --> 00:45:00.639
had some card trouble. We we
we you know, aren't used to driving
552
00:45:00.639 --> 00:45:02.199
on the other side of the road, so we hit, you know,
553
00:45:02.519 --> 00:45:08.719
some stuff and hit so many people. As you can see, the front
554
00:45:08.760 --> 00:45:13.679
of our car is very damaged from
the people that we have hit. There's
555
00:45:13.679 --> 00:45:17.559
still some hair and committed and murder. Oh I said we hit people.
556
00:45:17.719 --> 00:45:21.800
Oh I thought you guys were the
commitments. No, I'm just kidding.
557
00:45:21.840 --> 00:45:25.280
Yeah, but we're definitely gonna go
to jail. Not if we catch the
558
00:45:25.280 --> 00:45:37.480
red eyeback. What is it going
to take to Matthew Broderick this, but
559
00:45:37.599 --> 00:45:43.599
yeah, to once again throw in
like a big reference that nobody except people
560
00:45:43.599 --> 00:45:46.639
in Boston are going to get,
Like the way they just imploded would be
561
00:45:46.679 --> 00:45:52.599
like if I just like turned into
a major dickhead the moment I played my
562
00:45:52.639 --> 00:45:58.360
first PA's Lounge show. Yeah,
and somehow you got people to PA's Lounge,
563
00:45:58.480 --> 00:46:01.760
but still it was just pas Lounge
at the end of the day.
564
00:46:01.880 --> 00:46:06.400
Yeah, And the problem with PA's
Lounge is that it's hard to play there.
565
00:46:06.760 --> 00:46:08.320
Not because it's hard to book or
anything, like that. But you
566
00:46:08.360 --> 00:46:13.039
know, on occasion, the shitter's
there overflowing and they cancel the show when
567
00:46:13.079 --> 00:46:15.280
you're arriving with your gear. You
know, sometimes things like that happen.
568
00:46:16.960 --> 00:46:22.039
Oh man, was this a Chris
stories that just got really sad? Not
569
00:46:22.159 --> 00:46:23.880
directly, No, it was up
my old bend, very lamar. Before
570
00:46:23.880 --> 00:46:28.360
I joined, they had a PAS
shows scheduled, and they got there and
571
00:46:28.400 --> 00:46:30.440
started unloading, and the woman who
works at the bar came out. She's
572
00:46:30.440 --> 00:46:34.760
like, guys shows canceled, the
toilet's all clugged up, the shit everywhere.
573
00:46:37.599 --> 00:46:45.519
Oh man, Oh oh, Lily
Pad, do you think that Outspan,
574
00:46:45.360 --> 00:46:50.079
the way his story ends is with
him busting outside of a store.
575
00:46:50.559 --> 00:46:54.760
Do you think this is a shared
universe with Once? I mean, there's
576
00:46:54.800 --> 00:46:59.679
nothing to suggest otherwise. I mean
that's that's more or less confirms in a
577
00:46:59.760 --> 00:47:02.639
fact as far as I'm concerned.
Well, because his character never has a
578
00:47:02.760 --> 00:47:07.480
name, and Once he's just called
guy guy. I mean, if if
579
00:47:07.519 --> 00:47:10.519
his name was I Outspan, I'd
probably just be like, just just call
580
00:47:10.599 --> 00:47:15.840
me guy. Watching him with like
a normal guitar that doesn't have a giant
581
00:47:15.840 --> 00:47:19.079
hole in it, I was like, yea, his last his last name's
582
00:47:19.079 --> 00:47:22.760
Foster. Just say your name's Foster
outspan Foster. No, just just this
583
00:47:22.880 --> 00:47:28.840
guy. With this movie, we
needed more Colmini. We got him in
584
00:47:28.960 --> 00:47:32.559
four scenes, and we needed him
in like at least six. Yeah.
585
00:47:32.599 --> 00:47:37.719
I would have very, very much
liked a lot more of him. Yeah,
586
00:47:37.800 --> 00:47:42.039
when when Deco threatens to leave the
band, I just would have loved
587
00:47:42.280 --> 00:47:45.360
for him to push him off the
stage and be like, we know the
588
00:47:45.440 --> 00:47:53.400
mother dog. Right after the Lips, uh has a talk with Jimmy at
589
00:47:53.440 --> 00:47:59.480
the very beginning when he's first introduced, and uh Colemini asked him, like,
590
00:48:00.000 --> 00:48:02.800
who the hell was that, and
Jimmy's like, God sent him and
591
00:48:02.920 --> 00:48:09.920
me, and he just responds,
Suzuki. Yeah. I love how every
592
00:48:09.920 --> 00:48:15.039
time you see someone on the back
of uh Lips Suzuki, you're like,
593
00:48:15.079 --> 00:48:19.960
oh, no, he's dating he's
dating them now. And then he goes,
594
00:48:20.599 --> 00:48:22.719
Jimmy, do you want to ride? I was like, don't get
595
00:48:22.760 --> 00:48:34.840
on there. He's the best.
He's yes, he puts on shaft,
596
00:48:34.920 --> 00:48:43.239
he does a monologue. That scene
was kind of upsetting. It was I
597
00:48:43.480 --> 00:48:46.360
don't see it as being upsetting because
it's not like I don't know she was
598
00:48:46.400 --> 00:48:51.159
there. She was into it.
No, it's because he was talking over
599
00:48:51.199 --> 00:48:54.360
the theme from Shaft, and I
love the movie Shaft. Do not interrupt
600
00:48:54.360 --> 00:48:59.920
Isaaka's damn it. I think the
absolute best case scenario we can all agree
601
00:49:00.679 --> 00:49:05.840
is like after he says that instead
of instead of Bernie popping up, called
602
00:49:05.880 --> 00:49:13.599
MENI pops up instead, you really
am at Elvis shut your own mouth.
603
00:49:15.400 --> 00:49:17.800
So I have an inside baseball question
about this film that i'd like to pose.
604
00:49:17.920 --> 00:49:22.159
I don't think we have the answer
to this, and unfortunately, since
605
00:49:22.159 --> 00:49:23.159
I went Parkers no longer with us, I don't think we're ever going to
606
00:49:23.239 --> 00:49:30.559
get the answer. Do you two
think he sought out the naughtiest boy in
607
00:49:30.679 --> 00:49:37.639
Dublin to be in this film?
Well? That was that was Mica,
608
00:49:38.000 --> 00:49:42.559
Who's yeah. I'm just wondering if
he was the naughtiest boy in London.
609
00:49:42.599 --> 00:49:46.000
Similar to how the bad guy whose
name I don't remember and don't care from
610
00:49:46.280 --> 00:49:52.400
Guffy Oh fat Sam, that's right? How yeah, how he went to
611
00:49:52.400 --> 00:49:57.239
a school and asked for the naughtiest
boy in the school. So I wonder
612
00:49:57.239 --> 00:50:00.360
if he just kind of continues that
for every film, I want the biggest
613
00:50:00.440 --> 00:50:05.800
rascal. There is more of a
scallywag. If you will just it's that
614
00:50:05.880 --> 00:50:09.519
exact phrasing that bothers me. I
would like to speak to the y'all rap
615
00:50:09.599 --> 00:50:15.199
scallions. Did you did you notice
Alan Parker is in this movie? I
616
00:50:15.280 --> 00:50:19.639
did not. Yeah. At the
very end he's one of the producers.
617
00:50:19.239 --> 00:50:24.199
He's he's the guy at a from
IDGID Records. Oh that's him. Yeah.
618
00:50:24.280 --> 00:50:28.119
Oh, he gets a coffee thrown
at him, except there's a window.
619
00:50:28.440 --> 00:50:30.559
That wasn't coffee, that was a
Guinness. Oh. There is a
620
00:50:30.599 --> 00:50:36.840
point in this movie where I think
that Deco is kind of nice and approachable.
621
00:50:37.159 --> 00:50:43.360
It's when he is eating his beans
and he's like, I'm not a
622
00:50:43.400 --> 00:50:46.719
singer. He's like, I heard
you sing. He's kind of being nice
623
00:50:46.760 --> 00:50:51.280
in that scene, and then complete
prick for the rest of the movie.
624
00:50:52.599 --> 00:50:55.440
I getty much. I gotta say, Scott, you're incorrect. That was
625
00:50:55.480 --> 00:51:01.639
not Allen Parker. Oh shit,
it was comedian Sean Hughes. Sean said
626
00:51:04.880 --> 00:51:13.320
it said that Sean Parker was from
Sean Hughes. Stop it then, which
627
00:51:13.360 --> 00:51:16.960
one was Alan Parker? The film's
director. Alan Parker plays an unnamed producer
628
00:51:17.039 --> 00:51:21.679
at Egitt Records at the end of
the film. Yeah, no, I
629
00:51:21.760 --> 00:51:23.559
know, But when the guy says, I'm a producer from me J Records.
630
00:51:23.599 --> 00:51:27.599
I assume that that's who that was
because I was looking at the IMDb
631
00:51:27.679 --> 00:51:30.880
when I was supposed to be watching
Sean Hughes. Is Sean Hughes is the
632
00:51:30.119 --> 00:51:35.760
Egitt Records guy who has lines?
Oh, Alan Parker is just there like
633
00:51:35.800 --> 00:51:38.039
behind the mixing board. So you
know who that was though, right?
634
00:51:39.440 --> 00:51:49.559
No, Sean Hughes, stop saying
that. So one thing that I did
635
00:51:49.559 --> 00:51:52.079
find out about this that was genuinely
interesting and weird. Do you know who
636
00:51:52.119 --> 00:51:55.039
the kid on the skateboard was who
wanted to audition for the band? And
637
00:51:55.199 --> 00:52:00.039
Uh, Sean Hughes was this time? It wasn't? Uh? Was it
638
00:52:00.119 --> 00:52:05.880
was it Tony hawk from a police
academy for citizens on patrol filling in for
639
00:52:06.079 --> 00:52:08.840
David Spade. No, it was
David Spade filling in for Tony Hawkey if
640
00:52:08.920 --> 00:52:15.079
he owed him one. No,
yeah, you know how I'm talking about
641
00:52:15.079 --> 00:52:17.880
that, right, The kid on
the skateboard who wants to I can sing,
642
00:52:19.639 --> 00:52:22.519
Yeah, he wants to audition outside
the window. Uh. That boy
643
00:52:23.239 --> 00:52:29.719
or I guess individual at that point
is Peter Rowan, who was the boy
644
00:52:29.760 --> 00:52:35.480
from the covers of You two's boy
and war mhmm. But if he did
645
00:52:35.519 --> 00:52:42.199
start singing and he was just like
one love, one Love, I mean,
646
00:52:42.320 --> 00:52:45.159
if he did, it's frightening because
I don't think that album was out
647
00:52:45.239 --> 00:52:53.039
yet. You just kept saying New
Year's Day, New Year's Day. Uh
648
00:52:53.119 --> 00:52:59.239
yeah, so anything else or should
we get into the tracks? Um?
649
00:53:00.239 --> 00:53:04.280
Right at the very end, when
like Jimmy is just sort of giving it
650
00:53:04.320 --> 00:53:09.000
to giving it to Joey on his
h on his like motorcycle a bat,
651
00:53:09.079 --> 00:53:14.800
like you know how he's pissed that
Wilson Pickett never showed up. And then
652
00:53:14.880 --> 00:53:19.800
like like what Joey makes that whole
point a bad like it's it's not about
653
00:53:19.840 --> 00:53:22.679
like, you know, the fame
and stuff they think of this the art
654
00:53:22.199 --> 00:53:24.880
and Jimmy, I forget what if
this is exactly what he said, but
655
00:53:25.079 --> 00:53:30.559
Jimmy is just like it's piss and
walks away like didn't it just sort of
656
00:53:30.559 --> 00:53:34.159
look like joe Like Joey Fagin had
like an expression on his face where it's
657
00:53:34.159 --> 00:53:40.880
just gonna be like not piss.
It was a piss, wasn't piss?
658
00:53:43.599 --> 00:53:46.000
Well, when he's doing his whole
speech when he's like, I'm sorry you
659
00:53:46.039 --> 00:53:50.599
feel that way. I'm like,
that's that's what like a parent says to
660
00:53:50.639 --> 00:53:57.639
a kid when the parents screws up
and refuses to apologize. You promised Wilson
661
00:53:57.679 --> 00:54:00.920
Picket. You never knew Wilson Pickett. Oh, I'm sorry you feel that
662
00:54:00.960 --> 00:54:04.719
way, but I didn't know Wilson
Pickett now didn't I that's also something.
663
00:54:04.840 --> 00:54:07.679
That's also something that someone who doesn't
want to apologize says to make it look
664
00:54:07.679 --> 00:54:17.239
like they apologized. Yeah, yeahs
a piss. Well, I'm sorry you
665
00:54:17.239 --> 00:54:22.280
feel that way. It was a
piss. Just drove home like sadly,
666
00:54:22.400 --> 00:54:30.519
just like piss. It was a
piss. It was a piss. I
667
00:54:30.599 --> 00:54:36.559
didn't know Wilson Picket. Not priss. Mom, please stop playing your violin.
668
00:54:36.599 --> 00:54:42.920
I'm having a moment here. The
lips, they're not piss. I
669
00:54:42.960 --> 00:54:47.760
don't think it much stuff bothered that
man. If anything, that would just
670
00:54:47.800 --> 00:54:52.440
make it all the funny. Apparently
he is the greatest lover in all of
671
00:54:52.599 --> 00:54:58.639
Ireland. That's sad oh man,
Yeah, oh yeah. Those those twins
672
00:54:58.639 --> 00:55:02.519
were fucking creepy. Yeah. I
love when they're like, Mom said,
673
00:55:02.519 --> 00:55:09.400
we could get some soda and some
crisps? How much quick fifty? Really?
674
00:55:10.199 --> 00:55:15.519
I love hell, Colemini has no
idea how much things cost. I
675
00:55:15.559 --> 00:55:21.840
could watch two hours of a movie
that moms week. Okay, how much
676
00:55:21.840 --> 00:55:27.840
does that cost? So really what? Okay, just reaches into his wallet,
677
00:55:28.159 --> 00:55:32.119
pulls out like the shining thing from
Marcella's Wallace's briefcase and hands it to
678
00:55:32.159 --> 00:55:38.719
them. I love I love Colemeni's
face at when they're at the uh jim
679
00:55:38.719 --> 00:55:44.360
Boree when they're at the I guess
the stop heroin concert. I'm calling it.
680
00:55:45.679 --> 00:55:50.480
Um he just when he's on the
soundboard, when Jimmy's on the soundboard,
681
00:55:50.519 --> 00:55:53.199
and he just looks at him and
just gives him off, just a
682
00:55:53.280 --> 00:56:00.480
little acknowledgement. They sound good.
It had been Again, this may only
683
00:56:00.519 --> 00:56:06.239
be something that mystery science theater fans
get, but it had big pod people
684
00:56:06.400 --> 00:56:09.800
energy during that scene in like the
recording studio, where like those two producer
685
00:56:09.800 --> 00:56:14.800
guys are like, these guys are
good, good, They're the best.
686
00:56:15.719 --> 00:56:29.000
It sucks, It stinks, Okay, with with the actual movie itself,
687
00:56:30.280 --> 00:56:34.239
if there was no music in it
whatsoever, I would think it's the greatest
688
00:56:34.239 --> 00:56:37.880
comedy ever. They start to play
music and then something just breaks it up.
689
00:56:38.760 --> 00:56:44.960
This would be the greatest. That
does sound pretty good. Oh she
690
00:56:45.199 --> 00:56:46.039
may bee. Hey, hey,
hey, hey, hey, you guys
691
00:56:46.079 --> 00:56:51.639
didn't pay your tap, you don't
get to sing. Every scene is like
692
00:56:51.760 --> 00:56:53.880
that one scene in Spinal Tap where
they just hit one chord and the power
693
00:56:53.960 --> 00:56:59.400
goes out. What's his name starts
playing the saxophone. Someone chucks a beer
694
00:56:59.400 --> 00:57:01.360
bottle, knock him out him.
They're like concerts over. You know what
695
00:57:01.400 --> 00:57:07.079
it would be like every time they're
about to saying Mika gets into a fight,
696
00:57:07.639 --> 00:57:12.880
and that a fight's so big that
it knocks everything over. How did
697
00:57:12.920 --> 00:57:17.920
he become the best drummer in like
a day? He's not playing anything complicated.
698
00:57:20.599 --> 00:57:24.599
Oh I thought he was like John
Travolta from Phenomenon. I mean he
699
00:57:24.679 --> 00:57:28.800
might have been. We don't.
We don't. We haven't seen the unedited
700
00:57:28.880 --> 00:57:32.159
version of the script, so I
mean it's just speculation this part. I
701
00:57:32.159 --> 00:57:37.920
mean, well, he becomes a
thrash metal guy. No, he's he's
702
00:57:38.000 --> 00:57:44.000
becomes a punk guy. Oh well, a hardcore punk guy, which is
703
00:57:44.119 --> 00:57:46.880
not that far removed from thrash metal. Both of you all can fuck off.
704
00:57:52.400 --> 00:57:54.360
Okay, let's get into the tracks. Yeah, fucking don't at me,
705
00:57:54.440 --> 00:58:00.480
Henry rawlins, Yeah, what the
fuck are you gonna do? Uh
706
00:58:00.599 --> 00:58:07.639
fucking Doyle? All right, let's
get into the tracks, tracks, tracks,
707
00:58:07.679 --> 00:58:12.480
tracks before you just start fighting each
other. Oh no, I was
708
00:58:12.480 --> 00:58:15.559
just gonna trying to fight him.
I'm trying to fight outdated hardcore punk people.
709
00:58:16.960 --> 00:58:20.480
I think it was the Onion Ones
that had um like one of their
710
00:58:20.480 --> 00:58:23.119
advice columns, and it was asked
Henry Rawlins and like people would ask like,
711
00:58:23.119 --> 00:58:25.360
oh, I'm having trouble getting my
points to grow this season, do
712
00:58:25.400 --> 00:58:28.519
you have any words of advice?
And then it would just be this long
713
00:58:28.599 --> 00:58:35.639
story about being on tour with the
black flag and a van. Yeah,
714
00:58:35.639 --> 00:58:39.840
that didn't help me. Yeah,
fucking what are you gonna do? Wadi
715
00:58:40.119 --> 00:58:47.880
Buchan from The Exploited. Let's get
to the tracks finally, So they're there
716
00:58:47.880 --> 00:58:53.400
are two volumes to this motion picture
soundtrack. If we're going by what it
717
00:58:53.440 --> 00:58:58.559
says on Wikipedia, we're just covering
like the original, right, yeah,
718
00:58:59.440 --> 00:59:05.079
okay, so the God did have
the two volume one? Was that?
719
00:59:05.239 --> 00:59:07.960
Was that a constant listen in your
household growing up Scott? Actually? Surprisingly
720
00:59:08.039 --> 00:59:15.360
yes? Was it consistently like three
o'clock rolls around and just like, hey,
721
00:59:15.400 --> 00:59:20.840
guess what? Oh no, it's
grits, ain't groceries time. No,
722
00:59:21.079 --> 00:59:23.119
but when there was party okay,
asked and answered, when there were
723
00:59:23.159 --> 00:59:30.280
dinner parties, my dad would put
on that album anyway. The Commitment's original
724
00:59:30.320 --> 00:59:35.000
motion picture soundtrack released in nineteen ninety
one, produced by Paul Bushnell, Kevin
725
00:59:35.119 --> 00:59:39.559
Killen, and Alan Parker. It's
a it's a bunch of covers. It's
726
00:59:39.559 --> 00:59:45.079
a whole bunch of covers, The
Commitments covering classic soul songs. Not not
727
00:59:45.119 --> 00:59:46.440
a jukebox musical, thought, yeah, because that means you would have to
728
00:59:46.440 --> 00:59:49.840
hate it, right. Well,
if it was a jukebox musical, the
729
00:59:49.880 --> 00:59:52.519
songs would just break out like their
fucking Broadway songs, and they would have
730
00:59:52.559 --> 00:59:58.199
no connection to the they would have
no connection to the story whatsoever, and
731
00:59:58.280 --> 01:00:01.159
they would just be shoehorned in with
no explanation, and it'd be stupid.
732
01:00:01.760 --> 01:00:06.320
These are not stupid, kind of
like on that one episode of Passions Passions,
733
01:00:06.559 --> 01:00:07.280
Yeah, you know, the one
with the doll boy. No,
734
01:00:07.360 --> 01:00:12.079
I never saw Passions. Oh.
It was a bizarre soap opera that existed
735
01:00:12.239 --> 01:00:15.280
like around two thousand and two thousand
and one, and its pattern was every
736
01:00:15.280 --> 01:00:19.519
week it would start like a normal
soap opera on Monday, and by the
737
01:00:19.559 --> 01:00:22.320
time Friday rolled around, it was
like Balls of the Wall, just like
738
01:00:22.519 --> 01:00:27.159
insanity, and there was a witch
lady who had a doll that came to
739
01:00:27.239 --> 01:00:30.440
life. Yeah, like that would
be the sort of stuff you would see
740
01:00:30.480 --> 01:00:32.880
like come Thursday or Friday. Then
like Monday, it would revert back to
741
01:00:32.920 --> 01:00:36.719
being more like a normal soap opera, and then by Friday they'd be like
742
01:00:36.719 --> 01:00:39.360
a fucking werewolf. So like one
story would like last the entire week.
743
01:00:40.119 --> 01:00:44.880
It would reset as much as it
could within reason. That sounds very silly
744
01:00:44.920 --> 01:01:10.000
anyway. Trust Number one Mustang Sally
sing the song they never really complete.
745
01:01:10.920 --> 01:01:14.280
Yeah, I mean yeah, it's
the first song they play it too,
746
01:01:14.320 --> 01:01:19.559
so it's it's fitting. Yeah,
yeah, I appreciate. I appreciate that.
747
01:01:19.639 --> 01:01:22.920
Like at the very beginning, when
they're like all just sitting down to
748
01:01:22.000 --> 01:01:25.559
play Mustang Sally, they all just
kind of sound a little bit like shit,
749
01:01:27.039 --> 01:01:30.159
And it's not just like, you
know, just some movie cliche of
750
01:01:30.199 --> 01:01:32.239
like they all came together. It's
like, oh, we're brilliant. It
751
01:01:32.360 --> 01:01:37.519
sounded like they were being held hostage. He's like Mustang Sally right, Sally
752
01:01:37.599 --> 01:01:45.320
here right? Yeah. Interestingly,
Deco was the only one who was competent
753
01:01:45.360 --> 01:01:51.199
from the get go. Well maybe
that's maybe that's where Zego came from.
754
01:01:51.239 --> 01:01:55.239
He was meat Loaf. He well, he is a talented singer. That's
755
01:01:55.320 --> 01:01:59.920
like the whole thing with him.
He is talented, but and a nant
756
01:02:00.199 --> 01:02:06.960
acts are really seriously that was that
was a meat Loaf joke. Oh okay,
757
01:02:07.360 --> 01:02:10.800
Oh well, I mean that helped
meat Wolf though on his transition into
758
01:02:10.800 --> 01:02:20.079
becoming an underground artist. Ah,
because he's dead. J Jack, that's
759
01:02:20.119 --> 01:02:24.719
the darkest joke you've ever told on
this podcast. Jesus, I got up
760
01:02:24.760 --> 01:02:47.719
the empty track number two, Take
Me to the River. It was good.
761
01:02:47.960 --> 01:02:51.639
Yeah, it's a good cover of
Taking into the River. Still,
762
01:02:51.679 --> 01:02:57.000
my favorite is talking Hating Ads.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's it's
763
01:02:57.000 --> 01:03:00.320
hard to beat that version. M
hmm. I saw Springsteen do a version
764
01:03:00.320 --> 01:03:06.519
of that in the middle of tenth
Avenue free Zone. It was when he
765
01:03:06.559 --> 01:03:14.360
was playing at um Fenway and he's
like you have the Da Da and he's
766
01:03:14.360 --> 01:03:22.199
like, dab it to the river
and I just go wrong. Song would
767
01:03:22.199 --> 01:03:23.760
have been better if he did it
in the middle of the sixth Daddy's playing
768
01:03:23.760 --> 01:03:28.079
the wrong song. Someone has to
tell him I run up to the stage,
769
01:03:28.119 --> 01:03:34.280
mister Springsteen, mister Springsteen, you
just run on stage and like do
770
01:03:34.360 --> 01:03:36.800
a little cut the sound. Like
cut the sound, cut the sound.
771
01:03:37.079 --> 01:03:40.159
There's been a grievous error in judgment. You have to start this song over
772
01:03:40.239 --> 01:03:45.320
again. Single. All these people
paid for a show, and you're giving
773
01:03:45.360 --> 01:03:52.280
them live. All these people paid
five thousand dollars through Ticketmaster. All these
774
01:03:52.320 --> 01:04:00.079
people paid five thousand dollars for incredibly
shitty seats and parking. Because it's Fenway
775
01:04:00.719 --> 01:04:02.519
track number three, another New England
references, Let's see how many more we
776
01:04:02.519 --> 01:04:08.079
can get in here. I think
Fenway is a little bit better known than
777
01:04:08.199 --> 01:04:32.199
Fuckings Lounge. Uh track number three, Chain of Fools, it's got This
778
01:04:32.280 --> 01:04:38.000
version of Chain of Fools is fine, it's not my faye all. I
779
01:04:38.039 --> 01:04:43.119
feel like all of the songs that
they did were perfectly good songs. I
780
01:04:43.159 --> 01:04:45.920
feel like we're not really going to
have that much to say about them as
781
01:04:45.920 --> 01:04:49.679
compared to, like if we do
like an actual musical musical, because like,
782
01:04:49.880 --> 01:04:53.960
at worst, they're just perfectly competent, you know, covers, the
783
01:04:54.000 --> 01:04:58.440
soul music I have a hot take
on on when we get to the otis
784
01:04:58.440 --> 01:05:03.360
spreading cover and when we get to
Try Little Tenderness. So um, actually
785
01:05:03.599 --> 01:05:11.679
I like the Black Crow's version.
Batter is that it the Black Crow's version
786
01:05:11.679 --> 01:05:15.000
of chaina Fools? No, um, hard to handle. I was thinking
787
01:05:15.039 --> 01:05:19.599
of the ODIs writing song. H
oh, not that one, I was.
788
01:05:19.639 --> 01:05:25.239
I was thinking of Try Little Tenderness. But is that the Is that
789
01:05:25.320 --> 01:05:28.079
the song where Chris Robinson goes like, hey, little thing, let me
790
01:05:28.159 --> 01:05:31.119
light the candle because your mom I
show not Donna dada yep, but no,
791
01:05:31.119 --> 01:05:35.599
no, no, you gotta emphasize
the show of shore. They're opening
792
01:05:35.599 --> 01:05:41.039
for Aerosmith's final tour. I assume
you guys would saw that we getting tickets.
793
01:05:41.239 --> 01:05:44.159
Fuck no, come on, guys, Christop Robbins and has to pay
794
01:05:44.159 --> 01:05:49.960
alimonia to Kad Hudson. They're they're
playing New Year's Eve on Boston. That's
795
01:05:49.960 --> 01:05:55.800
gonna be a disaster. Yeah,
that's where probably Fenway. No, they're
796
01:05:55.840 --> 01:05:58.960
playing it add Garden, I think
seriously, Yeah, yeah, they wouldn't
797
01:05:58.960 --> 01:06:00.719
play the Garden of New Year's Eve. Oh, they're playing the d D
798
01:06:00.840 --> 01:06:05.039
Garden. I saw like the the
tour poster on Facebook a little bit ago.
799
01:06:06.239 --> 01:06:12.199
Now, they family did a crazy
live concert in the middle of winter
800
01:06:12.280 --> 01:06:14.880
like a few years ago. I
can't remember which one it was. Well,
801
01:06:15.360 --> 01:06:18.199
they have been a dropkick Murphy's concert. A couple of my brothers saw
802
01:06:18.280 --> 01:06:23.679
Aerosmith on New Year's Eve, like
in the nineties at some point, and
803
01:06:24.159 --> 01:06:28.639
the most notable thing I remember them
talking about is how Aerosmith missed the actual
804
01:06:28.719 --> 01:06:33.400
countdown and admitted to this folly and
then said we're gonna do our own countdown
805
01:06:33.519 --> 01:06:38.519
and at like twelve fifteen or whenever
they did their own like countdown from ten.
806
01:06:41.000 --> 01:06:43.440
I guess they did want to miss
a thing. Yeah, that was
807
01:06:43.519 --> 01:06:45.400
right when that song came out.
I would imagine too, So maybe they
808
01:06:45.400 --> 01:06:49.519
were too busy just fucking gemming on
a Diane Warren song to notice the time.
809
01:06:53.199 --> 01:06:58.840
Don't want to close Mars. She's
never gonna win an oscar to dude
810
01:06:58.880 --> 01:07:03.920
to two nominated sixteen times. That
was the only time that we got you.
811
01:07:04.440 --> 01:07:06.840
Sorry, I'm gonna stop talking about. After that, we got track
812
01:07:06.920 --> 01:07:29.519
number four, The Dark End of
the Streets, The Dark Time. That
813
01:07:29.639 --> 01:07:34.039
one was also pretty good. It's
fine. Yeah. After that, we
814
01:07:34.039 --> 01:07:58.960
got track number five, Destination Anywhere
God. That that one was also.
815
01:07:59.079 --> 01:08:00.199
Oh, was this the one in
the back at the chips fan. I
816
01:08:00.519 --> 01:08:04.039
maybe I think this one was I
don't know. I actually really liked that
817
01:08:04.119 --> 01:08:09.719
they worked this in there, and
I love the guy who's like, hey,
818
01:08:10.119 --> 01:08:14.679
do you have any crisps? They're
like, fuck off, but we've
819
01:08:14.679 --> 01:08:19.479
got We've only got sold back here
zoom, but I'm so hungry. Well,
820
01:08:19.479 --> 01:08:24.359
we only opened this window because someone
farted. I imagine that's how it
821
01:08:24.399 --> 01:08:28.119
is a wat of food trucks.
Yeah, we didn't want to work,
822
01:08:28.960 --> 01:08:33.520
but Deco farted, so now we're
serving. Went a little Bostonian there for
823
01:08:33.560 --> 01:08:39.399
a second. We didn't want to
work today, but Deco foted. Well,
824
01:08:39.479 --> 01:08:43.359
Techo moved to Southey and now he
works on a food truck. He'd
825
01:08:43.399 --> 01:08:47.960
totally be like one of those like
Irish bartenders like this, Like I always
826
01:08:48.000 --> 01:08:51.479
loved telling this story, Like there
was this one time, like there's a
827
01:08:51.479 --> 01:08:57.239
bar in Lowell called called the Old
Court. It's like a classic Irish bar,
828
01:08:57.520 --> 01:09:00.279
and I just went. I tried
to order like an angry Chards,
829
01:09:00.439 --> 01:09:02.880
like do you have angry orchard?
And the bartender responded no, only angry
830
01:09:02.920 --> 01:09:10.640
bartenders, I hope you said,
can I have my drink? There's a
831
01:09:10.640 --> 01:09:13.920
bar A friend of mine worked at
in Charlestown, and I'm I don't want
832
01:09:13.960 --> 01:09:17.000
to name it um because I used
to hang out there after hours with him
833
01:09:17.079 --> 01:09:21.800
and his Irish coworkers and UM we'd
drink until like three to thirty and they
834
01:09:21.960 --> 01:09:27.399
just be like chain smoking in an
establishment where weakly they could have me chain
835
01:09:27.479 --> 01:09:32.199
smoking. It was good stuff.
I want to open up bar named Escape
836
01:09:32.199 --> 01:09:38.039
now and only serve Peanut colottus.
You know what, Scott, that probably
837
01:09:38.119 --> 01:09:43.960
already exists googling. I'm googling next. You're doing that track number six,
838
01:09:44.079 --> 01:10:10.279
I can't stand the Rain. Oh
God, it's fine. Like the middle
839
01:10:10.319 --> 01:10:14.159
of this album is like fine.
It's the beginning and the end for this
840
01:10:14.199 --> 01:10:16.960
album that's really strong for me.
Do you do you think that that song
841
01:10:17.119 --> 01:10:24.920
ever gets into fights with Here comes
the Rain again? Sure? Here's tract
842
01:10:25.000 --> 01:10:29.439
number seven, the aforementioned Try a
Little Tenderness. Oh you got it?
843
01:10:47.640 --> 01:10:53.279
What do you got for us?
Scott? This is next to well uh
844
01:10:53.399 --> 01:10:57.960
otis reading at Monterey Pop. This
is my favorite version of Try a Little
845
01:10:57.960 --> 01:11:01.279
Tenderness. Really, I really love
this version, and it's probably because I
846
01:11:01.279 --> 01:11:05.239
grew up at the age of like
five listening to this version and I think
847
01:11:05.279 --> 01:11:10.359
his voice is really incredible when he
does it, but it also reminds me
848
01:11:10.399 --> 01:11:15.159
of the Monterey Pop version where otis
Redding is like, uh, he basically
849
01:11:15.239 --> 01:11:20.199
starts doing a different version of Gotta
geta He goes got to got to haynn
850
01:11:20.319 --> 01:11:27.000
then like he's trying to start a
car and and he kind of does it
851
01:11:27.039 --> 01:11:36.279
into well, that's a lawn mower. But yeah, I love this version
852
01:11:36.279 --> 01:11:42.640
of Try Little Tenderness. I think
it's really good. Um and it also
853
01:11:42.720 --> 01:11:45.920
knowing that it's basically the end of
the band kind of breaks my heart.
854
01:11:45.600 --> 01:11:50.119
M hm. I think it's always
kind of funny that like this song is
855
01:11:50.199 --> 01:11:56.760
just like the otis reddis vert Redding
vert reddis. The the Otis Redding version
856
01:11:56.840 --> 01:12:00.239
basically turned it into like this is
a soul standard when it was originally written
857
01:12:00.239 --> 01:12:06.880
by like the fucking rain Noble Orchestra
as just like a sort of try Nash.
858
01:12:08.319 --> 01:12:13.760
It's like a fucking megaphone crooning song
the thirties. I got an update.
859
01:12:14.399 --> 01:12:16.600
Escape Bar and Grill does in fact
exist. It is in the Dominican
860
01:12:16.640 --> 01:12:20.560
Republic, but yeah it exists,
and what you would think it would be.
861
01:12:21.319 --> 01:12:25.319
But does it only serve peanut coladas? That's the only drink I wanted
862
01:12:25.359 --> 01:12:28.239
to sell. I don't know if
it's only peanut coladas, but if you
863
01:12:28.239 --> 01:12:32.760
look at their Facebook page, there's
a lot of peanut coladas and getting caught
864
01:12:32.800 --> 01:12:35.800
in the rain. I mean it's
the Dominican Republic. They get their share
865
01:12:35.840 --> 01:12:40.239
of rain. I would not be
surprised if they have an item on the
866
01:12:40.279 --> 01:12:45.680
menu that they call the pina colada. Oh yeah, yeah, parentheses like
867
01:12:45.840 --> 01:13:12.319
from the song next track, track
number eight, treat her right. This
868
01:13:12.319 --> 01:13:16.560
one was fine. Yep h Track
number nine, Do right woman, Do
869
01:13:16.720 --> 01:13:41.039
right man? This one was also
fine. I actually don't like this one.
870
01:13:41.720 --> 01:13:45.079
That was fun. Really it's okay. It's just like of all the
871
01:13:45.119 --> 01:13:47.960
songs that are we have, we
have a division of the ranks here,
872
01:13:49.079 --> 01:13:58.319
all right, Yeah, tie your
hands together and gry knife fight on the
873
01:13:58.359 --> 01:14:04.199
stone bridge, d dude, far
to the dearth. After that we got
874
01:14:04.239 --> 01:14:13.199
track number ten, Mister Pitiful,
same now feel so blude. Oh they
875
01:14:13.399 --> 01:14:20.399
call me mister pitable because I awesome, just like the call me sopitible just
876
01:14:20.560 --> 01:14:28.840
in the bottes, the calm and
so beautiful. I really like this version
877
01:14:28.840 --> 01:14:33.560
of mister pitiful because he is pitiful
because Deco is mister pitiful this Oh my
878
01:14:33.800 --> 01:14:40.159
god, you're right. This version
of the song. I would like to
879
01:14:40.159 --> 01:14:47.039
share it as well. Uh was
featured in an episode of Frazer. The
880
01:14:47.079 --> 01:14:51.680
episode is ros in the Doghouse.
If anyone's interested in, uh scouting that
881
01:14:51.760 --> 01:14:56.600
out now, we'll want to hear
Deco do a cover of Toss salad and
882
01:14:56.600 --> 01:15:01.960
scrambled eggs. That would be really
good. Oh, for God's sake,
883
01:15:02.079 --> 01:15:11.000
Nils Cook got Nils track number eleven. I never loved a man. I
884
01:15:15.840 --> 01:15:30.560
love them, so I hallo sometime. Whose song that was this? Amalta?
885
01:15:31.319 --> 01:15:35.319
I think this was an Amelda song? Yeah? Yeah, they were
886
01:15:35.359 --> 01:15:40.720
mostly emotional. I generally tend to
assume that, like all the ones that
887
01:15:40.760 --> 01:15:45.399
are by like Mary Wells, Aretha
Franklin and Peebles, these are all Amelda
888
01:15:45.439 --> 01:15:48.800
songs. Chain of Fools was Natalie
right? I mean, I mean one
889
01:15:48.800 --> 01:15:51.880
of the backup singers. Yeah,
they're called the Amelda's right. Yeah,
890
01:15:53.840 --> 01:15:59.319
they're called the committ Ats. Mmmm. I don't think that was official.
891
01:15:59.359 --> 01:16:03.359
That is an incredibly clumsy portmanteau.
Yeah. I think he said that jokingly,
892
01:16:03.399 --> 01:16:10.520
because later on he just referred to
them as the chartreuses. All right,
893
01:16:11.039 --> 01:16:14.479
Mom's also not too that's also not
very good. He just had the
894
01:16:14.520 --> 01:16:20.680
ship kicked out of himself. Here
or in the shirt Roses. Could someone
895
01:16:20.680 --> 01:16:27.680
give me some crackers here out their
shirt Roses, here the ship Roses.
896
01:16:27.880 --> 01:16:30.720
I'm very dizzy and tired. I
just need to take them. Oh,
897
01:16:30.319 --> 01:16:33.960
you need to sit down. I
taste pennies. Do you want to know
898
01:16:34.039 --> 01:16:38.680
the name of my axe throwing team
that we call ourselves? Because you had
899
01:16:38.720 --> 01:16:42.000
a team, Yeah, it was
a it was a group of friends.
900
01:16:42.520 --> 01:16:45.439
You needed to have a team name. I am going to go out in
901
01:16:45.479 --> 01:16:55.000
a limb and say the Scott Stories. No, okay, Roses was it?
902
01:16:56.239 --> 01:16:59.920
That's that's much better than the Blue
Barracooters. All right, keep going,
903
01:17:00.000 --> 01:17:06.359
We're almost done. Gosh, track
number twelve in the Midnight Hour ride
904
01:17:06.359 --> 01:17:30.000
more and more and more. I
still like the Wilson Picking version better,
905
01:17:30.039 --> 01:17:34.359
but this is fine. After that, we got track number thirteen, Bye
906
01:17:34.359 --> 01:18:03.439
Bye Baby Bright but bas City Rollers. Yes, did they do a cover
907
01:18:03.600 --> 01:18:08.000
Bye Bye Baby? That got that
got me? What I was saying,
908
01:18:08.079 --> 01:18:17.039
ba b that that that got me
for some reason. But this was fine.
909
01:18:17.279 --> 01:18:21.960
It was fine. After that we
got track fourteen, slip Away,
910
01:18:23.000 --> 01:18:45.560
originally a Clarence Carter. Song is
the Boy by Anees Clarence Carter, perhaps
911
01:18:45.560 --> 01:18:49.079
famous on the Internet as the guy
who did the song stroking. When I
912
01:18:49.159 --> 01:18:55.880
started making love, I don't just
make loves, I'd be stroking. That's
913
01:18:55.920 --> 01:19:11.359
what i'd been doing. I'd been
stroking, and I mean I thought it
914
01:19:11.439 --> 01:19:15.640
was um it was the guy from
those uh sci fi books that was on
915
01:19:15.720 --> 01:19:18.119
Mars, John Carter. MARSA.
That's John. That's John Carter. He
916
01:19:18.159 --> 01:19:21.239
did not do a song called stroking. That's gonna be his cousin or something.
917
01:19:23.359 --> 01:19:28.880
Okay, I don't remember this one. That one, and I recall
918
01:19:28.920 --> 01:19:31.600
also being quite good. Okay at
that. That's that's the soundtrack. There
919
01:19:31.640 --> 01:19:34.359
was volume two. We're we're not
gonna talk about it. No, we
920
01:19:34.399 --> 01:19:39.319
don't have time. In general,
I've got to say with this soundtrack that
921
01:19:39.439 --> 01:19:44.560
its greatest strength is that it's a
collection of these songs together in one place.
922
01:19:45.000 --> 01:19:47.279
So if you're in the mood to
hear this group of songs, you
923
01:19:47.359 --> 01:19:50.640
have one place to hear them.
I don't necessarily think any of them outshine
924
01:19:50.680 --> 01:19:54.199
the original versions, or if they
do, it's not by a whole lot.
925
01:19:54.840 --> 01:19:58.600
But again, like just having one
spot to hear a bunch of like
926
01:19:58.720 --> 01:20:03.199
great soul tunes. It's you can't
go wrong with it, right, So
927
01:20:03.399 --> 01:20:06.439
we have a rating system on this
podcast. If it's a good movie musical,
928
01:20:06.439 --> 01:20:09.880
it's hell of a musical. Do
I really need to do this?
929
01:20:10.399 --> 01:20:13.199
I think we're all on the same
page. I think you do. Because
930
01:20:13.520 --> 01:20:16.880
al Genteel completely through the rating system
into disarray last time. We're not doing
931
01:20:16.920 --> 01:20:20.840
that by introducing arcs. No,
we're not doing that. I swear to
932
01:20:20.960 --> 01:20:26.119
God. Go on, we're not
doing that. Well. If we were
933
01:20:26.239 --> 01:20:30.640
in a hypothetical make belief, no, stop it. I swear to God,
934
01:20:30.600 --> 01:20:34.720
I will end the zoom. No. Someone who doesn't listen to our
935
01:20:34.760 --> 01:20:39.920
podcast creating a new rating system,
not knowing that we have a rating system,
936
01:20:40.000 --> 01:20:43.039
I'm not doing that. It makes
me think of the Far Side cartoon
937
01:20:43.119 --> 01:20:45.680
where there's a family of Winnings driving
in a car and the father's turned around
938
01:20:45.760 --> 01:20:47.640
yelling at the kids, saying,
if you kids don't cut it out,
939
01:20:47.640 --> 01:20:50.560
I'm gonna drive off the first cliff. I see, that's it, back
940
01:20:50.560 --> 01:20:58.079
to Winnipeg. So I was just
thinking that, Yeah, Cape Canaveral for
941
01:20:58.159 --> 01:21:01.600
anyone bad movie musical as hell as
a musical, mad Purgatory, Pete,
942
01:21:01.600 --> 01:21:05.920
I'm guessing where all going with hell
of a musical? Yeah, mine's kind
943
01:21:05.920 --> 01:21:10.800
of Mine's kind of a light hell
of a musical. But like I mean,
944
01:21:10.920 --> 01:21:13.199
I liked it. I don't think
I liked it quite to the decree
945
01:21:13.319 --> 01:21:15.640
that both of you guys did.
But then, like, that's a movie
946
01:21:15.640 --> 01:21:17.800
both of you have seen just a
ton of times. Yeah, yeah,
947
01:21:17.920 --> 01:21:20.600
no, I've I've seen this movie
a handful of times and I really enjoy
948
01:21:20.680 --> 01:21:24.960
it. So yeah, there'll be
how many more Alan Parker musicals? Do
949
01:21:25.039 --> 01:21:29.159
we have left just a wall?
Or do we also have fame too?
950
01:21:29.479 --> 01:21:33.039
There's also a Vida. Oh he
did a Vita? Yeah, don't cross
951
01:21:33.079 --> 01:21:38.279
like it, but we promised,
and we promised David Allan Prescott a Vita?
952
01:21:39.640 --> 01:21:45.199
Oh boy, And Angela's Ashes is
a musical too. Right, jeez,
953
01:21:46.239 --> 01:21:51.159
there's the darkest thing you've said.
Now here's the thing. I actually
954
01:21:51.159 --> 01:21:56.359
have genuinely no idea what that movie
is about. I know nothing about it.
955
01:21:56.399 --> 01:22:00.600
Based on its title. I assume
it's a romantic comedy. No,
956
01:22:00.600 --> 01:22:06.520
okay, okay, So if it's
a memoir, it's about someone's shitty childhood
957
01:22:06.560 --> 01:22:15.560
growing up in Ireland, it's a
very dark and sad movie's Hey, this
958
01:22:15.640 --> 01:22:24.319
is about someone shitty childhood crowing up
in Ireland. It show us Pugsy Malone
959
01:22:24.600 --> 01:22:29.239
CB. Do you want to promote
anything? M Yeah, go out and
960
01:22:29.279 --> 01:22:35.279
see Angela's Ashes, because I feel
like everyone could probably from seeing this movie
961
01:22:35.319 --> 01:22:39.079
and knowing more about it, so
we don't make any more jokes about it.
962
01:22:41.039 --> 01:22:44.279
You're the only one, Lily Pad. Why do you want to promote?
963
01:22:45.399 --> 01:22:47.680
Just email us and tell us when
you see the naughty boy that Alan
964
01:22:47.760 --> 01:22:56.039
Parker picked out? Are you the
naughty boy? I'll never tell because I'm
965
01:22:56.079 --> 01:23:00.000
dead. I have another podcast called
Writer's Big Basket, and I have a
966
01:23:00.039 --> 01:23:04.079
mini series that I did with TV
called When Scary Mit Stabby. We're recording
967
01:23:05.239 --> 01:23:11.760
now Instagram dot Com, Slash three
sixty five Records. In twenty twenty three,
968
01:23:11.880 --> 01:23:14.880
I'm doing like a themed month and
for the entirety of May, where
969
01:23:14.920 --> 01:23:17.560
I review local band albums. I
just did my first one today. I
970
01:23:17.600 --> 01:23:21.000
did March of the Mannequins by Glass
Mannequins. Go check it out. Oh,
971
01:23:21.039 --> 01:23:25.760
hell yo, and I gotta.
I got a couple of albums I
972
01:23:25.760 --> 01:23:29.359
can recommend for you off one Oh, I've already picked all my albums.
973
01:23:29.399 --> 01:23:32.319
Oh really, yeast, I actually
planned this one out ahead of time.
974
01:23:32.399 --> 01:23:34.319
Yeah, I was. I was
struggling by the time I got to the
975
01:23:34.399 --> 01:23:38.159
end of my local music one.
Oh. I planned things out like I
976
01:23:38.239 --> 01:23:42.039
had a time, Like literally,
anytime anyone like offers me a request,
977
01:23:42.079 --> 01:23:46.239
I just pushed the list down a
little bit. So remember, if you're
978
01:23:46.279 --> 01:23:57.000
exasperated and doing a podcast about the
commitments you might be me. What if
979
01:23:57.000 --> 01:24:00.399
you weren't, wouldn't that be weird? Yeah? You know who I think
980
01:24:00.439 --> 01:24:08.840
you might be if that were the
case. A redneck Sean Hughes Bye Bye
981
01:24:08.960 --> 01:24:15.800
Scott's look of contempt with Hils and
Scott zero sign
