TIETOJA TÄSTÄ JAKSOSTA
This week on Cine Papis, we dive into Linda Mendoza's early 2000s cult classic Chasing Papi, a rare Latina-directed studio rom-com that brings together Roselyn Sánchez, Sofía Vergara, and Jaci Velasquez in a colorful, chaotic love triangle that feels like a telenovela crashed into a music video. We break down the film's campy charm, its unapologetically Latina aesthetic, and how each woman represents a different flavor of Latina identity while the so-called "Papi" becomes almost secondary to their collective star power. From Miami glam to LA chisme energy, we talk representation, fashion crimes, situationship culture before it had a name, and why the real plot twist is that the women were never chasing Papi—Papi was chasing them.
