TIETOJA TÄSTÄ JAKSOSTA
Send a question for 'Ask Megan'
Hey Podcasters!
Most podcasts have a host, producer, researcher, writer, and editor.
On Tiger Talk, those jobs belong to fourth and fifth graders!
The podcast is produced by EAST students at John Tyson Elementary School of Innovation in Arkansas, and when teacher Jennifer Boogaart says it’s student-led, she really means it.
The students choose each season’s theme, research stories, write scripts, invite guests, create their intro music, run the equipment, conduct interviews, and handle basic editing. Fourth graders learn from the fifth-grade hosts, then take over as leaders the following year!
What started as a way to share what was happening at school has grown into real community connections. Last season, one veteran they interviewed was so impressed she later joined them when Tiger Talk was recognized by the Arkansas Board of Education.
Along the way, Jennifer has watched her students become better writers, more confident speakers, stronger listeners, and better problem-solvers.
If you want to hear what happens when fourth and fifth graders take over the microphones, check out Tiger Talk.

TRANSKRIPTIO 🔗
00:00:00.080 --> 00:00:04.959
Hey podcasters, I'm Megan, and this is Buzzsprout Weekly.
00:00:04.959 --> 00:00:14.320
This week, I wanted to share a creator spotlight with you talking about a very special Buzzsprout podcast, Tiger Talk.
00:00:14.320 --> 00:00:19.920
Most podcasts have a host, producer, researcher, writer, and an editor.
00:00:19.920 --> 00:00:24.480
But on Tiger Talk, those jobs belong to fourth and fifth graders.
00:00:24.480 --> 00:00:30.960
The podcast is produced by East students at John Tyson Elementary School of Innovation in Arkansas.
00:00:30.960 --> 00:00:35.840
And when teacher Jennifer Bogart says it's student-led, she really means it.
00:00:35.840 --> 00:00:48.479
The students choose each season's theme, they research all the stories, they write the scripts, they invite the guests, they create their own intro music, run the equipment, conduct the interviews, and even handle basic editing.
00:00:48.479 --> 00:00:51.280
If that sounds like a lot, that's because it is.
00:00:51.280 --> 00:00:56.560
Fourth graders learn from the fifth-grade hosts, and then they take over as leaders the following year.
00:00:56.560 --> 00:01:02.640
What started as just a way to share what was happening around the school has grown into real community connections.
00:01:02.640 --> 00:01:11.359
Last season, one veteran they interviewed was so impressed, she later joined them when Tiger Talk was recognized by the Arkansas Board of Education.
00:01:11.359 --> 00:01:19.439
Along the way, Jennifer has watched her students become better writers, more confident speakers, stronger listeners, and better problem solvers.
00:01:19.439 --> 00:01:23.200
As a podcaster, you might feel some of those things too.
00:01:23.200 --> 00:01:29.760
If you want to hear what happens when fourth and fifth graders take over the microphones, you need to check out Tiger Talk.
00:01:29.760 --> 00:01:32.480
We'll link to that below in our show notes.
00:01:32.480 --> 00:01:34.319
