Travel writer and esoteric researcher Brad Olsen joins the podcast for a wide-ranging discussion on sacred sites, megalithic monuments and the possibility that ancient cultures understood aspects of the natural world that modern society has largely forgotten. Drawing on decades of travel and research, Olsen moves from Ireland, Stonehenge and Silbury Hill to Carnac, Malta, Montserrat, Rennes-le-Château and the remote ruins of Nan Madol.
The conversation investigates astronomical alignments, ley lines, earth energies, crop circles, pilgrimage routes, pagan sanctuaries beneath later Christian sites and the strange acoustic properties reported at ancient monuments. Olsen also discusses archaeoastronomy, dowsing, the Hypogeum of Malta, the mysteries surrounding the Cathars and Rennes-le-Château, and accounts of unusual phenomena associated with sacred locations.
The discussion eventually turns to one of Olsen's more controversial subjects: ancient methods of moving massive stones. He recounts the story of a Swedish doctor who claimed to witness Tibetan monks raising boulders through a combination of drums, trumpets and chanting, leading to a wider discussion of acoustic levitation, resonance and whether sound could have applications that remain poorly understood.
From the winter-solstice illumination at Newgrange to the magnetic basalt structures of Nan Madol, this episode asks a persistent question: were ancient sacred places simply monuments, tombs and temples, or were their builders working with properties of sound, astronomy, geology and landscape that we have yet to understand fully?
