“Round Here” by Counting Crows is a time machine back to 1993, and the opening track that introduced the emotional world of August and Everything After.
In this episode of Allison Unchained, Allison Hagendorf dives into the story behind “Round Here,” a song that helped define the sound and storytelling of ’90s alternative rock.
Written by Adam Duritz, the song captures disillusionment, longing, and the search for identity with a kind of emotional honesty that felt new and refreshing at the time. Its vivid lyrics and aching vocal delivery made it feel less like a single and more like a short film.
Released on Counting Crows’ debut album August and Everything After, “Round Here” helped establish the band as one of the decade’s most distinctive voices.
It’s a reminder that some songs don’t just describe a feeling, they give that feeling a place to live.
