Speaker 1: Live from the WOR LifeVac Studios, Mark Simone.
00:00:06
Speaker 2: Well, Rob Shooter, the great gossip, the great columnist, the great writer. Now, you've got to check out his YouTube channel. That's Rob Shooter YouTube. And, of course, his sub stack. You should subscribe to it. It's Naughty But Nice, Rob Shooter's sub stack. And then get his book. He's written some great stuff. It started with a whisper, his novel. There's a new novel coming, and he's with us now. Rob Shooter, how you doing?
00:00:34
Speaker 1: Hey, Mark. How are you, my friend?
00:00:36
Speaker 3: It's been a busy, busy couple of days because the Sussexes are back and pretending this time.
00:00:42
Speaker 1: To be royals. Lots of drama over in the UK.
00:00:46
Speaker 2: Now, the Sussexes sounds very impressive, but then you find out it's this goofy Harry and Meghan thing. who don't know what kind of work they're out of. Why did they come back here? Are they actually making any money here?
00:01:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's really curious. So they moved back to Britain about six weeks ago.
00:01:03
Speaker 3: It should be noted they have not met or spoken with the king publicly. I'm told there's been a few private conversations, but they've not spoken to William since 2022. So four years ago. There's an ugly rift within this family.
00:01:18
Speaker 1: And the queen.
00:01:20
Speaker 3: The queen said when they left, when they decided to leave, it was the queen who said to them, you can't be half in, you can't be half out. You're either royals and you do the work or you leave the family.
00:01:30
Speaker 1: And they chose to leave the family. However, when they.
00:01:34
Speaker 3: Were in California, the two of them realized that they do not need the palace, the late queen, or anyone else's permission to masquerade as royals.
00:01:46
Speaker 1: He is a prince.
00:01:48
Speaker 3: And so on Thursday, they turned up at a couple of charities in Nottingham, and it looked very much.
00:01:54
Speaker 1: Like a royal visit, if you've seen the photographs. They had some crowds outside, not large crowds, but they were not nothing.
00:02:01
Speaker 3: And they did a walkabout, they met fans, they took selfies, they kissed.
00:02:06
Speaker 1: Babies, and then they left. And this is what they missed. In Britain, to be a prince, to be a member of the royal family, it means a lot. People on the high street, people in Britain... love these royals.
00:02:18
Speaker 3: And they want to get any taste of it, any closeness they can.
00:02:23
Speaker 1: Here, it didn't matter. Harry walking into a Starbucks as a prince, nobody cared about that here. He missed that. Who wouldn't?
00:02:31
Speaker 3: And so they're back in Britain being royals.
00:02:33
Speaker 1: And the palace has a real problem on their hands here, Mark, because how do they stop them? You can't stop private individuals doing charity events. So they're probably just going to have to put up with this.
00:02:45
Speaker 2: Now, Rob Shooter, nothing personal, but what the hell does this royal family actually mean anyway? What do they really do? What is the purpose of it?
00:02:53
Speaker 1: This is why your shows are hit. You just get to the chase. They do absolutely nothing. There is no purpose to it. It is a reality show. It is very comforting.
00:03:05
Speaker 3: Older people will say that they have fond memories.
00:03:10
Speaker 1: Of the Queen.
00:03:12
Speaker 3: But I think for a new generation, William knows that changes are going to have to be made. Gone are the days when you can be born into a position of great power and privilege and expect everybody to bow and curtsy.
00:03:26
Speaker 1: Now you have to earn that right.
00:03:28
Speaker 3: And they haven't done that for generations. And so it's really complicated, this new world that we.
00:03:35
Speaker 1: Do live in.
00:03:38
Speaker 3: We want people running the show in charge who we pick, who we elect. God forbid that if Harry had been born first, Harry would be the next king. And so it's just a real, really dodgy system. It's a system that's based on luck. And so far, Britain's had some good kings, some bad kings, some good queens, some bad queens. But now I think the public, for the first time ever, at least in my lifetime, the opinion polls over there are 50-50 for.
00:04:08
Speaker 1: And against the monarchy. And so, yeah, they've got.
00:04:10
Speaker 3: To get their act together. They cost a ton of money. And the Brits are asking the same question you just asked, which is, what do we get for all this money we spend on them?
00:04:20
Speaker 2: You know what the real problem is? I could see years ago Diana or somebody like that. It was glamorous. Look how glamorous she looks. Look what she's wearing. Look what restaurant she went to. Look what she's doing. Well, that's a million people on Instagram now that do that. Every influencer. So what the hell do we need them for anymore?
00:04:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're right to it. The world has changed.
00:04:40
Speaker 3: And I think social media and Instagram, it's changed the way that we connect with people. I'm told that when William's king and his dad is, you know, is.
00:04:49
Speaker 1: Recovering from cancer, we wish him nothing but the best.
00:04:52
Speaker 3: But William will be the next king forever. of England, major, major changes are going to be made. I'm told that Buckingham Palace will no longer be a palace. It's going to be a museum or they're going to turn it back to the public.
00:05:04
Speaker 1: They want, yeah, they want the tourists. They understand that having a king or a queen brings tourists in, the trooping of the colour, the guards outside the palace. It's all lovely to see.
00:05:15
Speaker 3: It's all history, but it doesn't really have a function anymore. And so William's going to really streamline it and William's going to cut off a lot of those royals who are on the gravy train. So when William's king, things will change.
00:05:27
Speaker 1: But for the next.
00:05:27
Speaker 3: Few years, while his dad's on the throne, Harry's going to do whatever the hell he wants. There's nothing they can do about it.
00:05:35
Speaker 2: Rob Shooter has a new novel. You can pre-order it right now. You should. He's got great books. The new novel is Queen Elizabeth III. Tell us, what is this book about? Tell us.
00:05:46
Speaker 1: So what this book's about is it's set 15 years in the future.
00:05:50
Speaker 3: So fast forward, 15 years and I write a novel with a new queen on the throne and it's not who you think it is.
00:06:01
Speaker 1: There is a disaster. There's an abdication. There's decisions that are.
00:06:05
Speaker 3: Made and it turns the royal family upside down and And so in 15 years from now, it's not William, it's not William's children. I have a young lady who suddenly becomes queen through really exceptional circumstances and what that looks like. And so it's a fun, it's novel, it's all fiction. None of this is going to happen. I don't want any of this to happen, but I think it's a real story about families. You know, they're the most famous family in the world and that family is.
00:06:37
Speaker 1: A family business. And anybody who's ever worked in the family business, it can be really difficult.
00:06:42
Speaker 3: So it's a story about what it's like to work with your relatives, a bit jealous. You know, is it possible for a mother.
00:06:48
Speaker 1: To be jealous of her daughter? What happens with that?
00:06:51
Speaker 3: Is it possible to find love, to have any normality in your life if you're the Queen of England? And so it's a really fun family drama that just happens to be set within the most famous family in the world.
00:07:06
Speaker 2: Well, everybody go pre-order. It's a new novel, Queen Elizabeth III. It's by Rob Shooter. Pre-order it right now. Hey, this Kelly Clarkson thing was the stupidest story I've ever heard. I mean, you go into certain stores, they got something on the wall that's amazing, but it's part of their decor. It's not for sale. What didn't she grasp about that?
00:07:26
Speaker 1: And she didn't get her own way. So she turned up in Brooklyn. And I'm sure anyone that's been into a store in Brooklyn, they're kind of hip and cool. They're a little too cool for school. And there's always a little bit of an attitude. I was in Brooklyn a couple of weekends ago, and I went to get a cup of coffee and a bagel. And I just wasn't cool enough for the store, and they let me know it. So there's something about Brooklyn. They like Harry Styles. They like Zoe Kravitz. They're really hipsters. And so Kelly turned up. She's never been the coolest celebrity in the world.
00:07:54
Speaker 3: She turned up. She wanted to buy this bird, this mechanical bird on the wall. They told her it was not for sale. But they did tell her, this is the artist who made it. You can contact him, and he'll give you a special commission. That wasn't good enough.
00:08:07
Speaker 1: And I think what this is, is it's David and Goliath, isn't it? It's celebrities. It's people with power. acting very, very poorly.
00:08:15
Speaker 3: You know, this store, it's a mom and pop store in Brooklyn. They're now getting death threats. Eight million of Kelly Colloxon's fans now know where this store is. And so I'm really shocked about Kelly doing this. I've known her for a long time since American Idol.
00:08:32
Speaker 1: I know a lot of celebrities, Mark, I know you do too.
00:08:34
Speaker 3: Most of them are not that nice. Kelly Clarkson is one of the good ones. So I fear here, and I might be giving her the benefit of the doubt, I think she was having a terrible.
00:08:45
Speaker 1: Day, she made a terrible mistake, but what I can't explain is why she doubled down on it.
00:08:50
Speaker 3: She kept going. I've worked with celebrities, I've done crisis management for Jennifer Lopez, Jon Bon Jovi, Diddy, I've worked.
00:08:57
Speaker 1: With some of the biggest stars in the world, and if I was working with Kelly, I'd say just fix this. Say sorry. Just say, I was having a bad day. I was being a brat. I'm sorry.
00:09:09
Speaker 3: And tell your fans to back off with the death threats and all the ugly messages. It's amazing to me that entitled, super rich celebrities just think they can get away with anything.
00:09:23
Speaker 1: But I think this one's going to bite, Kelly. It's not a good look.
00:09:26
Speaker 2: Yeah. Crisis management for Diddy. Oh, you must be tired. That's full-time work. Oh, my God.
00:09:34
Speaker 1: Years ago, everybody, it was like early 2000s. It was 20 years ago.
00:09:39
Speaker 3: He wasn't quite yet the Diddy we know, but I talked about it. I read a story for The Hollywood Reporter, and I was really honest about it.
00:09:45
Speaker 1: I was like, did I miss any red flags? Was he just an awful person back then? And I was so, you know, I.
00:09:51
Speaker 3: Was soul-searched, and when I came to the conclusion, I was, I wanted to miss the red flags. I was so, as a young kid, it was 20 years ago. And it was my first big celebrity I worked for. And I was starstruck.
00:10:06
Speaker 1: And that's why they get away with stuff for so long. They use that.
00:10:11
Speaker 3: And so, yeah, so Diddy was one of my very first clients.
00:10:14
Speaker 1: In New York.
00:10:14
Speaker 2: Yeah, but people change over 10, 20 years. And if you're the biggest star in the world and you're in this big star bubble, it can really change your behavior.
00:10:22
Speaker 1: You're right. You're right.
00:10:23
Speaker 3: I didn't want to let myself off the hook on that because there's some truth to that, too. The Diddy I knew wasn't the Diddy that he is today. And yes, there was early warning signs.
00:10:32
Speaker 1: He was always arrogant. He was always rude. He was always full of himself. But he wasn't quite as sure of himself as he wasn't a billionaire.
00:10:41
Speaker 3: He was starting out in the music business. He was starting out in the fashion business. Once that success hit. You know, I don't know if it changes.
00:10:50
Speaker 1: You or just reveals who you really, really are. That's true. Whatever the result is here, it wasn't pretty. He's a bad guy.
00:11:01
Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right. It's like drinking. It brings out the real you sometimes.
00:11:05
Speaker 1: I'm a good drunk. What do you like when you drink, Mark?
00:11:08
Speaker 2: Water. I'm drinking the water right now.
00:11:09
Speaker 1: I sent you. There you go.
00:11:13
Speaker 2: Uh, no, let's see. Let's go over everything. You got, uh, your sub stack, right? People can go sign up for that.
00:11:17
Speaker 1: Rob. Thank you.
00:11:18
Speaker 3: I'm loving doing sub stacks. Each day I'm breaking news on sub stack. It's a big housewife week.
00:11:23
Speaker 1: I know we like the housewife.
00:11:24
Speaker 3: So the New York ladies are coming back to TV.
00:11:26
Speaker 2: Oh no.
00:11:27
Speaker 1: Ramona, Luan, all those, all those ladies. So they, they stopped, they stopped getting ratings. Bravo don't fire you if you deliver ratings.
00:11:36
Speaker 3: That's, that's what TV is about. They don't care about the quality of the product. Uh, it's how many eyeballs you get. And so nobody was watching them anymore. So they all got fired. And then E, who used to be owned by Bravo, got sold off. So E now is a separate company and E's given the ladies, the original New York ladies, their own show. So they're coming back to E. It's make or break week for them because if people don't turn in, it's the last stop on the train.
00:12:01
Speaker 1: It feels to me as if we've sort of, we've got to the end of that journey.
00:12:04
Speaker 2: Everybody listening, make sure you don't turn in. Don't do it. But, uh, Hey, but everybody go to Substack. Go to Rob Shooter's Substack. It's naughty but nice. And then get his new book. You can pre-order it right now. I need your help. We need your help with the new novel.
00:12:23
Speaker 1: Thank you.
00:12:23
Speaker 2: Queen Elizabeth III. Order the new novel, Queen Elizabeth III. And you've got a YouTube channel people can watch. Rob Shooter at YouTube. And, well, Rob Shooter, great as always. Thanks for being with us.

00:12:37
Speaker 1: The best. We'll see you soon, my friends. Take care. All right.
