Speaker 1: Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z KB and smoke with you. Hope everybody's staying cool outside here on a Wednesday. Hit us up on the FNZ text line seven oh four five seven ninety six to ten. That's the text line, same number. If you want to give us a call on x formerly Twitter at Kyle Bailey Club. It's at Kyle Bailey Club. Leo Mazzoni's back in twenty four minutes for the first time in a couple of weeks. We'll talk about the heavily slumping Braves and the rest of what's going on in Major League Baseball with Leo Mazzoni. Roman Harper's back at five, we'll talk some football. We'll talk some NBA free agency, which just gave us the latest twist or the latest story. In twenty twenty six NBA free agency, Tobias Harris to the San Antonio Spurs on a two year what was that, smoke thirty one million dollar deal? Correct? Two years thirty one? Yes, okay, that is correct. I love that pick up for them, By the way, I mean, obviously not a Spurs fan, but like if I was a Spurs fan, I think I'd be pretty happy about picking up to buy like this team just got you know, all the way to the mountaintop but stopped short by New York lost in the NBA Finals, one of the youngest final teams of all time, and you know, we all feel like they're going to get back there at some point. Having a guy like Tobias Harris makes a lot of sense. So, you know, thirty one million dollars over two years for that guy, I think seems like pretty good business. I think it did you. What was the most recent point where you actually had some interest in getting him here? I know you brought it up, but it feels like it's been a while.
00:01:42
Speaker 2: Well but in a while. Sorry, I had to do it.
00:01:45
Speaker 3: I think it was right during the playoff series when he was having a couple of good games and fault. If they do trade Miles Bridges, maybe you go get Tobias Harris as a veteran presence to take that next step as a guy who's a little bit more efficient from behind the arc and definitely I think better defensively than my Bridges is at this point.
00:02:01
Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, so what about when you said that Spurs deal? I thought, first thing makes sense good business. My second thought was, you know, where does Lebron James end up? And I've come to realize in the last two days, but especially in the last twenty four hours, just how many people out there have Lebron fatigue? And it's not a new thing. But you know, we broke the news that's not true. We relayed the news yesterday that Lebron was leaving LA and a number of people immediately shot back, I don't care. When is this guy? I'm so tired of hearing it. And I get it. I understand because if he's not your favorite player in the world, then you probably have some Lebron fatigue. I will acknowledge that it is pretty remarkable that going into his age forty two season, that we are legitimately asking the question, you know, where can Lebron James go next? And how much can he help a team? Right at forty two years old, twenty four seasons in the NBA. It is, you know, again, rather absurd, but it's happenings LA. We've talked about the possibility of Golden State joining Steph and Draymond, and I don't know if the Anthony Davis thing is going to work out or not, but you know Steph and Draymond and you know that crew out there. There's also reporting still that he might be willing to take the minimum to go back to Cleveland for a part three. I listen, the part two was cool. As a non lebron stand, I thought it was a great story and it certainly turned out well for Cleveland. He would leave again for La obviously, but there's just something about Cleveland Part three smoke that.
00:03:34
Speaker 2: I mean.
00:03:34
Speaker 1: I guess people are going to be into it and watch, but it doesn't hit the same as going back to Cleveland for a two point zero? What do you think? Like Golden States Cleveland? Could he help Miami?
00:03:47
Speaker 2: Like?
00:03:47
Speaker 1: Is that a place?
00:03:48
Speaker 2: I know?
00:03:49
Speaker 1: I know you're looking at me. I see you cutting your eyes at me.
00:03:51
Speaker 2: I mean, it would make a lot more sense, by the way.
00:03:53
Speaker 1: That makes sense for them in Miami, doesn't it.
00:03:55
Speaker 2: Yeah?
00:03:56
Speaker 3: By the way, do you need to mention Norman Pale signed it to year contract with the Bulls, so he is officially lost. Yep, their most notable free agent.
00:04:03
Speaker 1: There's what thirty two year old first time All star? Yes, yeah, which I don't think we emphasized enough what a crazy story that was. Now he's just been good for a long time and then he was just really suddenly an All Star. Right, yeah, yeah, so they need but the thing is they mainly need shooting right now, so they're not really needing forward death at this point.
00:04:20
Speaker 3: But then again, Lebron's Lebron. You take him if you got him and can get him.
00:04:24
Speaker 1: So yeah, but if he could run your offense for twenty five minutes tonight.
00:04:27
Speaker 2: Oh, it's a lot better than what you have right now.
00:04:30
Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, it's funny. Indy five thousand just said regardless, he has to head east if he has any thoughts of winning again, Rotten Tomatoes pointing out the Nuggets have thrown their hat in the ring for Lebron. James and I, you know, the Spurs thing got me thinking about this because even though I don't think it's going to happen, there are a number of people like I think, both Bill Simmons and actually a few others who said, boy, wouldn't that be interesting if Lebron went down to San Antonio as the elder Statesman to try to help get Wimby over the top for a championship in San Antonio kind.
00:05:01
Speaker 3: Of be like a squasi. Tim David Robinson version. Yeah, of what a little bit David Robinson was to Tim Duncan A little.
00:05:10
Speaker 1: Bit little bit? Yeah, Yeah, and again I think that's probably fourth or fifth on the odds, but it is an interesting thought. Exercise four one nine saying Cleveland is the obvious answer, go out with the hometown team and fans. I yeah, I would tend to agree. It's either that or give us the expendables in Olden State. All right, if you give me that that, I'm into it. I'm gonna watch it like the first night they play on National TV, probably on Opening night in October. I'm gonna watch that game at ten thirty PM. I'm gonna watch that game on Opening Night because just the sheer novelty and you know, craziness of having Lebron, Steph and Draymond and maybe more all on the floor together would would be absolutely insane if that were to work out. But yeah, Golden State, Cleveland, Miami, San Antonio four one nine. Nuver might be right, Cleveland might be the obvious answer, go out with the hometown team. Woody from Stanley's shouting Miami needs a bench, and boy do they. There's no question about sacrifice.
00:06:08
Speaker 2: Bench for Giannis.
00:06:09
Speaker 1: Right, That's that's why nobody thinks they're any better than a fifth or sixth seat in the east. Right now, you got a great front court, but you have no depth, and right now you have no shooters. Now leave it up to pat Riley and Eric Spolstra, you know, to go find another Duncan Robinson, you know, another Max Struce, another Haimi Hakez. I'm sure they're going to find a couple of them. But uh, that's a lot of work, that's a lot of heavy lifting. You've made the big trade to fortify the front court. You know, Now what else are you going to do? And again, you give those guys the benefit of the doubt because they've done it before. But we'll see. I think it's Golden State or Cleveland. I don't think he's going back. If he's going back anywhere, it's back to Cleveland. And if not there, you know, I do think Golden State makes sense. Although Amet, who says HGH is a hell of a drug, Okay that's Amitt's accusation, not mine, says Spurs he wants the easiest ring and to ride the coketails of Wemby Castle and Harper, their GM, their coach, and Fox all clutch sports clients. So i'minous deep in the conspiratorial tunnels of where Lebron cost next? All right, seven oh four five seven of ninety six ten hit us up on the fn Z text line. Right now we go to smoke with the best audio in sports. What did you say?
00:07:17
Speaker 4: You?
00:07:17
Speaker 1: What?
00:07:18
Speaker 3: What did you say?
00:07:19
Speaker 1: Hold up? Wait a minute?
00:07:21
Speaker 3: So may right.
00:07:23
Speaker 5: What I mean by that.
00:07:25
Speaker 1: Is, oh, go, apparently Minnesota's apparently they've got some interest in Lebron as well. Now, is Lebron gonna go take the men to play alongside LaMelo and anthough?
00:07:35
Speaker 3: Well maybe now he'll actually play for an actual Lakers now because the Lakers were used to be in Minneapolis.
00:07:40
Speaker 1: That's true, Yeah, that's true.
00:07:41
Speaker 2: He actually played for a place that has lakes.
00:07:43
Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I Lebron, I think will take the minimum to go home to Cleveland, maybe in Golden State. You know, he takes that mid level exception type deal to fit.
00:07:53
Speaker 2: In mid level in Miami too.
00:07:56
Speaker 1: Yeah, is he doing that in Minnesota to? I don't think so, it is. I don't think so either.
00:08:03
Speaker 3: Once you got over there, all right, well, speaking of Lebron, I do want to mention one more team. You actually mentioned him, but you didn't. Luckily for me, you didn't go too deep into it. Brian Windhorst on the Hoop Collective podcast was talking about a wild card dark horse team, and even though I don't think it's gonna happen, his idea has me tantalized, specifically with the on the court product that it could have this upcoming season.
00:08:26
Speaker 1: I'm intrigued.
00:08:30
Speaker 4: And I refuse to bring it up because I just didn't want the headache during the year of having to defend this. But I have long believed that if there was an outlier team for Lebron, if he was willing to take sort of you know, some exception was Denver. Yeah, because the idea of playing and like if you noticed during the year this year he was overly effusive with Jokic. I'll just point out that he has a relationship with Josh Kronky, the Cronky family, the owners.
00:09:00
Speaker 5: Of the of the Nuggets.
00:09:03
Speaker 4: He I believe was a guest a couple of times on their yachts in the Mediterranean in the in the summer before Lebron was focused on only playing golf in the summer. He used to go like be on a boat like the Magic Johnson Bobby where he went on on a boat for like a week to ten days.
00:09:17
Speaker 2: I'd sign that.
00:09:19
Speaker 5: Yeah, well, well that was where the Banana boat came from.
00:09:21
Speaker 4: That was that was in the Caribbean, but this one was, uh, I think it was in the Mediterranean.
00:09:28
Speaker 5: So he has some you know, connection there, and so I.
00:09:32
Speaker 4: Don't know, like I I think I probably even said too many words about even now.
00:09:36
Speaker 5: But like if I were Denver, I would kick the tires.
00:09:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, listen, Yeah, I think kicking the tires makes sense for them. Lebron and Jokic together does sound kind of fun.
00:09:51
Speaker 3: Look, you you may want Steph Curry, Yeah, and Lebron not na.
00:09:56
Speaker 2: It's just too weird for him to be in Golden State.
00:09:58
Speaker 1: I'm with you, but I I actually agreed that. I think Denver would be even cooler. And I think Whend Horst mentioned it there, but just in case he didn't, Kronke and Company tried to get him back in twenty eighteen when he signed in LA, So you know, he already talked about the rest of it. There's a long standing relationship there. I mean, you're not talking about a trade where Denver would be having to ship anything out to get him in. I mean, what does that starting five look like together, Mr Murray, Lebron, James, Aaron, Gordon, nakole K. Yeah, I'm assuming Gordon's back.
00:10:31
Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess they'd have Lebron at the three.
00:10:35
Speaker 1: I would think so.
00:10:35
Speaker 2: Yes, Aaron's more strictly a four slash moll bam.
00:10:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, he's still playing that point forward type role too. I mean, there are a lot of teams in the mix here. This is so insane that there is truly a robust market for a and even if it's not top dollar for a forty two year old entering his twenty fourth season in the NBA. And while he has definitely lost a step in a half and probably a couple of inches off the old vertical, he's still an impactful player. Like Kate Town, Steve, Lebron is washed up. That's why nobody's picked him up, and that's why he's willing to take the league minimum. I don't get the fascination. I mean, what's your death I was gonna say, what's your definition of washed up?
00:11:17
Speaker 2: There?
00:11:17
Speaker 1: Kay Town Steve? I mean, he averaged twenty one points per game and six rebounds last year on nearly fifty two percent shooting. He didn't shoot it well from three, only thirty one and a half percent. But like, if your definition of washed up is twenty one and six at forty two years old, what does that make the rest of us?
00:11:36
Speaker 3: Dude like Lakers bron For as much as I didn't really care for it, it's been far. It's been far better than Wizards, MJ. I think I can say that confident.
00:11:47
Speaker 2: All right.
00:11:48
Speaker 1: I mean they made the playoffs. Man, I don't know what to tell you, Like, I mean, he can help a team. No one's saying he's leading a team to the title, but he can help that team, and I'm kind of into it. What else you got?
00:12:00
Speaker 3: All right, Well, let's move on to the US men's national team as they have a big match tonight against Bosnia and Herze Gavonia Nope, Govna, Nope, Gavina. There you go, all right, third times a charm. I just always say Bosnia because it's more fun to say it, just as Bosnia anyway.
00:12:17
Speaker 2: So US men's soccer team has been fun this year.
00:12:20
Speaker 3: And I know all the talk is about polistic We've heard people talk about Tim Ream of Charlotte FC and his veteran experience.
00:12:26
Speaker 2: But I think what has been one of the.
00:12:27
Speaker 3: Coolest stories this World Cup for the US has been the play of one Alex Freeman. If you remember, he scored one of the two goals and to win over Australia. And if you didn't know, I did know. Of course you knew. He is the son of former NFL wide receiver in Virginia tech legend Antonio Freeman. Yes, the one that made al Michaels stream he did what yep back in two thousand. Well, Antonio Freeman has been doing the media rounds over the last couple of days, and this clip came from the Ryan Ripkin Show.
00:12:59
Speaker 2: Yes, the son of cal As.
00:13:00
Speaker 3: He was talking about how Alex, even though he's the son of an NFL legend, had to go for many trials and tribulations to get to where he's at right now.
00:13:09
Speaker 6: He got to be ready for your moment, and I think that describes his journey each and every level here. A couple of years ago, the U twenty US national team did not select Alex as a part of their U twenty team, and he was a part of their U nineteen, eighteen and seventeen years So that was trauma that had to be hard in itself. He had to sit in the stands in Orlando where he was playing professional soccer and watch the U twenty team compete without him being a part of it. And I think those type of things motivated him internally. He doesn't talk a lot about those things, but these are things that have happened, and these just used every thing that's happened in his life as an opportunity and an opportunity to make it better. And I'm just so happy for the drive and the work that he's put in. And man, go Ufa.
00:14:03
Speaker 1: That's awesome. Antonio Freeman, well, great athlete, great wide receiver, and he's you know, his son got the jeans right, so he's got the athletic pedigree from his pops. Didn't go to the college route, by the way, for those that might because you know, it's soccer's a little bit different in that way. Became a really talented young player, prep player, as I think Antonio mentioned there. I think he started with what Western FC, if I'm not mistaken, and then joined the Orlando City Academy. So he was with that Western FC kind of pipeline group down in Florida, ends up with the Orlando City pipeline group in like twenty twenty and has just worked his way up ever since then. And I wonder, like, how many people prior to this World Cup were even aware that, you know, there was the son of an NFL you know, I think Antonio Freeman safely an NFL legend. You know, the son of an NFL legend on the US men's national team. It's a really really cool story. How are you feeling about tonight? Are you? Are you confident they're winning and advancing tonight?
00:15:03
Speaker 3: I'm about seventy five percent confident that will win tonight. It's just once you get to that next knockout stage, especially if Belgium wins, I feel like Belgium is going to be a big uphill battle for them to get across. But I do think they have enough in the tank to get across, to go the finish line here and win tonight.
00:15:19
Speaker 1: Soccer Hawks out there, I want to hear from you on the text lone seven oh four five seven oh ninety six ten. Are we still calling the supporters group the American outlaws? By the way, are we still doing that. I don't know, remember that is that still a thing?
00:15:30
Speaker 2: I don't think so?
00:15:31
Speaker 1: Okay, because I mean, I I think that's I think they still are called the American outlaws. What if we have any outlaws in the audience listening right now? How are y'all feeling about Bosnia Herzegovina tonight? Seven oh four five, seven oh ninety six ten, Hit me with your hottest take? What else you got?
00:15:46
Speaker 2: Smart? A half Cherokee and chococall.
00:15:48
Speaker 1: That's a good one. That's good stuff anyway.
00:15:50
Speaker 3: So now let's move from the game of soccer to the game of golf. As over the last year or two, it's been noted that betting has impacted a lot of people, both on the field and off the field, and during his press conference yesterday, Jordan's Beef talked about how he's noticed that the gallery has been very different over the past year or two, ever since sports betting became more legal across the United States as a whole.
00:16:15
Speaker 7: I mean, I think the one thing that I'll point out is I do think that betting in golf is something that's going to have to be tackled here soon, because I don't know how much of, say the Windom scenario, was the fact that it was enticing to bet the field versus Windom on Sunday in a legalized betting state, and you could have had people out there that are essentially, you know, have one hundred to ten thousand dollars depending on who it is on the field versus somebody else. And in golf, it's tricky because you could actually impact the outcome if you wanted to. It may not last very long, but you could impact a shot if he wanted to. I don't know of another sport that you could impact as a fan like you can golf, So I don't know how much that's having to do with it, if it's different than it used to be. I've also played rounds with guys who were not treated well ten fifteen years ago, so I don't think it's a crazy new thing. I do think the Beth Page Ryder Cup was, from what I understand, maybe a lingering effect from that with an American versus European you know, Cam Young, Fitzpatrick, the players like I'm trying to single them out for you, but I wasn't a part of either.
00:17:36
Speaker 2: One of them.
00:17:38
Speaker 7: But I will say that from what I've seen a lot of times it has to do with betting, and that is in the last five years. So we'll see, we'll see what happens with that.
00:17:50
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:17:51
Speaker 1: Worth noting here too, And this is not a gotcha. I'm just pointing out something that's you know, pertinent to this. He's a FanDuel guy. Yeah right, he's partners with Fan So again that's not a gotcha, Like you're such a hypocrite, but you know he's entangled in this too. But he makes a really good point, like, is there another sport that could be affected by heckling gamblers as much as golf, because, like he said, it might not last very long. You know, you might be able to quickly remove somebody from the course. But let's say you waited out. You know, you have bet on Jordan Speith to win, or you have bet on his competition, and you're biding your time on a Sunday, and it's worth it to you. You got a ten thousand dollars bet on you know, Tommy Fleetwood to win the tournament. He's a stroke up on Jordan's speed, or they're even going to the seventeenth tee box and you start screaming during Jordan Speed's backswing to affect his shot. But there's no gimmes, there's no take backs on that you've impacted a shot. You might get ejected from the course, but it also might be enough to win you a massive bet.
00:18:56
Speaker 2: You know.
00:18:56
Speaker 3: I feel like I'm not a cynical enough because I never thought about that. And then when he said, I'm like, holy crap, that could happen. It makes me think of The Masters on Saturday when I Fingo was seventeen, when Rory teed off right after he teed off, and I think shank the shot. It was the infamous one where the guy yelled the mel Gibson like give me back my son, stuff like that. I mean, you hear that stuff all the time, but I've never really thought old this could actually, you know, be a guy trying to change the outcome of the event so his bet can actually pay out. It's sad that it kind of has to be thought of like that, but I think it could be. And as as he pointed out, this is the main sport. I do think you can maybe do it in baseball, but I think it's far less successful and we're gone past the days of the late nineties where you could bring, you know, the little red dot lights out to a basketball game or football game, delayser rise to kind of get in between guys eyes.
00:19:45
Speaker 1: Yeah, that shit't do that well. See Texters are blowing us up. Chad from Greenville says, I like speed, but man, these athletes have got to stop crying about prop betting. Take your millions of dollars and sit on your floor to doc if you can't handle it. Seven oh four. Golfers or cry babies and whiners, not athletes. We're getting stuff like this coming in. But I think he raises an interesting point. You don't have to, you know, completely agree with him, but I think it's an interesting question, like what sport could be more impacted by this than golf seven h four five seven ninety six ten. Maybe there is an answer, but golf's in a unique position because of it, right, And he says again he thinks this is leading to the kind of rowdy crowds like we saw up in New York. Heckling Wyndham Clark, who certainly brought some of it on himself, I mean some of it. But I think it's a very interesting perspective from Jordan Speeth, even if you like Dom Kper says, every sport has crowds yelling, Yes, but in baseball and basketball and football, no one's quieting the crowd. There's no expectation of decorum. You don't have course officials telling people to pipe down before a t shot. Like it is different in that way. Yeah, baseball may be a little bit more, but these baseball players are accustomed to guys yelling in the background, and you know, people yelling things at them from the stands. It's kind of a loud, noisy hum throughout the entire event.
00:20:59
Speaker 3: U one hundred mile an hour fastball that you have to worry about in the strike zone that's coming at you is so quick too.
00:21:04
Speaker 1: So yeah, it's interesting. Again, whether you agree or not, it's fine tell me. But you know, is there a sport more susceptible to this than golf? Seven oh four, five, seven ninety six ten, Hit us up, well, come back? Leo Mazzoni, long time Atlanta Braves pitching coach. Next Sports Radio ninety two to seven WF and z SO Jordan Speed says that rowdy crowds on the PGA tour are getting out of control and he attributes it to the rise in sports gambling. In part he did say that, you know, he's played Browns with guys who were not treated well ten fifteen years ago, that it's not a crazy new thing, but that he'll say a lot of it has to do with betting, and that's in the last five years. He's thirty two years old. He's also been a Fan Duel ambassador since twenty twenty one and was the PGA's first tour player to partner with a sportsbook. So, like the last three posts on his ex account, we're also fan Dual promotions, during which he discussed a Thanksgiving NFL matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs, a two hundred thousand dollars spring Swing bonus, and three of his favorite futures bets in the NBA, NHL, and NFL. So Jordan Speith, who again has been was the first PGA tour player to partner with a sportsbook, is now claiming that, you know, gambling is out of control and is leading to these rowdy crowds. In particular, you know what we just saw at the US Open up in New York in Southampton where the Wendham Clark scenario took place, and a lot of the Texters that hit us up had interesting perspectives on this. Mike from Missouri said, KB, I have a question with the moves. I'm sorry. That was Mike from Missouri saying, Hey, KB, I'm a golfer, so I kind of understand what's is talking about. But tennis is very similar in the fact that they expect quiet and somebody could be screaming in the middle of a serve that could impact a match. So I'd ask the question as speech suggests that golf is the most susceptible to the prop bets, to you know, crowds interfering or you know, having some sort of influence on the outcome and doing so because they might have placed a bet on a particular player, you know. I think it's an interesting perspective, even if a lot of people feel like he's a hypocrite because he's a fan duel guy and is constantly pimping betting stuff on his X account. We have seven oh four numbers saying fans in stands impact sports. Golfers need the course dead silent to make a shot. But you'll have fifty thousand screaming fans in Truest Park while someone's trying to hit a ninety nine mile per hour fastball. You're right, you're right, But there is a different expectation, different atmosphere, different decorum. It just is what it is. Anybody who's been to Quail Hollow for the now Truest Championship formerly Wells Fargo Championship, if you've been to a professional golf tournament, you know how these things work. Spect you to be quiet. The officials are quieting the crowd ahead of a you know, a t shot and approach shots in the fairway. So yeah, I think it's again interesting perspective. Is there a sport more impacted potentially than golf? Nine A H. Numbers saying serving in tennis comes to mind, but that doesn't take away from his point. Yeah, in tennis, definitely. I was at the oh, what's the name of that tournament? Exactly, the one in Charleston. It's like on Daniel Island? Is it the Charleston Open. I was at that one years ago and I stood up in the middle of I don't know if it was the serve, It might have been the volley I needed to use the restroom and I wanted a beer, and boy, I got shushed, yelled at, told to sit down. You know, you're not allowed to move when that stuff's going on. So if you did that, yes, you would be immediately ejected from the premises. Just like golf. You'd probably get one of those and then they're, you know, heave hoeing you off the grounds. But yeah, I stood up to go get a beer, and I'm not a big tennis guy, and I didn't even think twice about it, smoke. I went to go get a brew and you know, one of the people that was the ushers in the stands or whatever this person's position was, It's like, sit down, sit down. I'm like, my damn, I bad, Sorry, just wanted a beer. So you're getting thrown out in a tennis event for sure.
00:25:19
Speaker 3: By the way, yes, it was to Charleston Open. You were thinking of it's been there since two thousand.
00:25:24
Speaker 1: And one, yeah, five years, yeah, yeah, so I was there a couple of years ago, and no offense to tennis. It was part of the reason I'll probably never go back.
00:25:31
Speaker 3: If so, why you weren't mad that they didn't hear in Charlotte get the tennis tournament from the Cincinnati.
00:25:38
Speaker 1: Right, right right, And as Matt in Greensboro says, one bad serving tennis is not nearly as punitive as a bad driving golf. So I totally agree with that.
00:25:45
Speaker 2: Well, plus you can also redo that.
00:25:47
Speaker 3: And I also think one of the main things too, not saying you don't get kicked out of, you know, golf events, but it's a lot more easier to spot. I think, pick out who the heckler is in tennis, and you are are definitely one and done.
00:26:01
Speaker 1: Yeah, because in golf and the gallery people are walking around, they can duck behind people stuff like that. You know, in tennis, you're in a seat, right, so they're couldn't find you, right, They're gonna find you. Panther Boat makes a fair point. Maybe it's just obnoxious New York fans. Quail doesn't have that problem. I heard a little bit of it. I heard a little bit of that at Quail, but not nearly as much as what took place in New York last month, not even close.
00:26:25
Speaker 3: I mean, this makes me think maybe the the fine folks at Quail Hollow knew what they were doing when they were banning Mac because maybe Mack was trying to uh alter the odds of what happened at the Inn Wells Fargo Tournament. Now the truest championship. He could have really gotten under the skin of a lot of these golfers, impacted their games. He could have been the mole. Sure the situation will follows yelling.
00:26:45
Speaker 1: Yeah, oh nine to one nine says the National Spelling Bee Championship. I feel like they'd let the kid respell. What's the Have you seen the adjacent Bateman spelling Bee movie?
00:26:59
Speaker 2: I've heard Have you never seen it? But I've heard it's called Bad Words.
00:27:03
Speaker 1: Oh dude, it's so funny. I've seen it two or three times. It is. It's raunchy. It's not like it's not suitable for kids, but it's funny.
00:27:11
Speaker 3: It's one of those movies I saw that was coming out. It looked pretty good, but I never went to go see it. Is worth your while as it came out like ten eleven years ago, Is that right, it's like twenty fourteen, twenty fifty, you're right.
00:27:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, there it is March twenty fourteen Bad Words with Jason Bateman. It's about a grown man who finds a loophole to go back and compete against children in the National Spelling Bee. It is awesome. It's a funny movie.
00:27:33
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:27:34
Speaker 3: So I've actually been in that basement. It's the basement of the Marriott In Hotel in Washington, DC. Look at you, fancy that's where I was at a wedding there on July fourth.
00:27:44
Speaker 2: All right, twenty two years ago.
00:27:45
Speaker 1: All right, all right, I don't know what's going on with Leo Mazzoni right now. We'll try to get him on. If not, we'll we'll look the next week. But in the meantime, since we have an open segment, let's say I had brought up Jalen Brown a little while ago and we haven't gotten back around to it. So now seems as good a time as any. With NBA free agency in full swing today, the Lakers have made a whole bunch of moves, trading for Walker Kessler, giving up a bunch of picks, signing him immediately to a four year, one hundred and thirty million dollar deal. They have signed Quinton Grime, Sandraw, Mama Kelis Vieley, and Colin Sexton is signing a two year deal with the Lakers as well. Mitchell Robinson, fresh off of title in New York signing a deal with the Boston Celtics. We also have Tobias Harris today signing with the San Antonio Spurs two years, thirty one million dollars. So free agency has been a little bit muted because of the new CBA, the new salary aprons. It has made for a much more robust trade market and we are still learning more about the trade market for Jalen Brown up in Boston. There there was the initial reporting that the Celtics opening ask for a Jalen Brown trade was four first round picks. That's been out there for a couple of days, but it's it sounds like the rest of the league is not really into that there is interest in Jalen Brown, according to multiple reports, because of course there's interest in Jalen Brown, but Sam Ammick over at The Athletic is reporting that the interest in Jalen Brown is not near the level that Boston would like, and that according to this and while nothing's impossible, it just takes one team, it sounds like the rest of the league is like four first round picks. Huh, yeah, We're not really into that, according to to Sam Amick. So I don't know smoke, Like, how much is Boston going to be lowering the asking price for Jalen Brown? And at what point, let's say, are the Hornets willing to meet that asking price? But also there's a point as it comes down. If it does that, of course you'll get more teams interested. If suddenly it's no longer four first round picks, but hey, we'll take two first round picks and a promising young player for Jalen Brown, which may not be the deal, you know, could very well involve future pickswaps, second round picks, you know, could be more complex than that. But let's just say two future first round picks for Jalen Brown and a promising young player or some variation of it, Like, is there a point for you where you're willing to meet the Boston Celtics demand, Because for me, if Brad Stevens is saying, and we'll give you Jalen we we could do two first rounders in the future and you know, a pick swap and three future second round picks, I'd imagine you're doing that deal. Right.
00:30:27
Speaker 3: Yeah, It just really depends, I think, on what picks you're asking for.
00:30:30
Speaker 1: What picks and if they want a young player. Are b Mill and Conker Nipple completely off the table for you.
00:30:36
Speaker 3: I think they've made it clear the Hornets have that they don't want to give up either one of those two players. I think, honestly think that there were legit talks I believe between the Celtics and the Hornets. I think they wanted one of those two players, if not both of them, and at one point both well not not at the same time.
00:30:53
Speaker 1: Okay, let's be clear.
00:30:54
Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, thanks for putting me out on that. But yeah, I think they were asking for one of those two players. Uh, it's just it's like, no, I'm not doing it. And the four first round picks is a little bit too much, you know. I look, you look at his contract. Here's the big thing. His contract is ridiculously high. We're talking about we talked about LaMelo in his contract.
00:31:13
Speaker 1: With fifty seven million this year. I think he's due fifty seven.
00:31:16
Speaker 3: Yeah, then sixty one, and then the last year Kyle sixty four.
00:31:21
Speaker 1: Oh it's a lot of money.
00:31:23
Speaker 3: By the way, that sixty four is essentially sixty five because it's sixty four.
00:31:26
Speaker 2: Nine to five to one.
00:31:26
Speaker 1: Okay, so it's sixty five million. Dollars in the final year of his contract.
00:31:29
Speaker 3: So you're already having to take on that contract there. Yeah, he's in the prime of his career, but you're not wanting to give up four first round picks at the same time that you're using all those give it, you know, using all that salary, because you're going to be cap strung for a long time at that point. So I think that's the main hold up. It's like, yeah, we're we're we won't Jalen Brown, but we don't want to give up that many assets for him. I think if you look at it through the Hornets, they did give up one of their first round picks, but they also got one of the first round picks in the trade this past weekend for Miles Bridges, so to give up that twenty twenty, they technically could have three first round picks this upcoming year. But I don't think they want to give up their first round picks as soon as this year, especially when you look at the protections. I think that's the main hold up for the Hornets is they don't want to give up their picks with the protections because if the Heat missed the playoffs entirely, this year, the Hornets don't get their pick, but then it's completely unprotected. In twenty twenty eight, similar situation with the Mavericks, not exactly the same, where unless it's a top two pick, the Hornets get that Mavericks pick that could be valuable because we could be talking about something as high as third or as low as like twenty nine to thirty of So you got to look at it like that. Their picks are valuable because of the lack of protections in them. So I think that's maybe why they wanted to hold off on trading for Jalen Brown, is because who knows how valuable these picks could be in ten months.
00:32:52
Speaker 1: Well that's it too, you know. And I think there was a Sham's report yesterday where he said, you know, I can't find a team right now that's willing at this moment to give up that amount of draft capital. So then it just becomes our Brad Stevens in that front office, fine trading away Jalen Brown for you know, potentially less than that. Potentially you know, I had one GM, say forty cents on the dollar. That's because that's what it's come down to in Boston. They just have not been able to find teams as of yet to get to that threshold. But there's still a lot of time left in this offseason. So again, you know Shams is reporting it. It's not just to him, it's others as well, saying that teams don't want to meet this asking price. And then you go back to the Bobby Marks thing that got aggregated on Saturday, where Bobby referenced some analytics guy telling him that the analytics say Jalen Brown is like the seventh best player on a team or what do you say, the seventh best player in Boston or the seventh best player on a team ideally, And it was funny because Jalen Brown, quote tweets it starts going at Bobby Marks on Twitter. Saturday. I'm live on the air on ESPN Radio. We get Bobby on the show. He's reacting live with us on the ESPN Radio to Jalen Brown, you know, tweeting at him and you know, raging about a nineteen second clip in a four minute answer where Bobby does heap a lot of praise on Jalen and say I'd love to have him on my team, but like Jalen Brown, you know he's raging on the twitch stream. He says, y'all going to do me like Luca, there's no loyalty, just go ahead and trade me. I don't know if they can mend that, right, And so that factors into if they can't sit down and mend that, and if both you get to a point where both want out, both just want to get this done and move on. Okay, Well then what's what's the price? Because now the rest of the league knows there's a great deal of acrimony up there. You're not going to be able to figure this out. Oh you want four first round picks for a dude who can't even stand the side of you right now? No, we're not going to do that.
00:34:42
Speaker 3: Well, and that's why I think where they've really lost it was when Jalen Brown went on Twitch and just basically called the organization out. But I do think, in my opinion, I think the way it's going to go right now is they can't find a suitor. And the reason they can't find a suitor is I think the team that made the most sense to find a suitor was potentially a swap for Kawhi Leonard.
00:35:00
Speaker 2: I think that would have made sense.
00:35:01
Speaker 3: But Kawhi Leonard's now in Toronto, Toronto wait leaving uh letting Kawhi Leonard walk this time around, so you kind of are stuck with him. I think it's kind of a similar situation to what we saw with The Last Dance Bulls in ninety seven ninety eight when Scottie Pippen wanted to fight Jerry Kraus and said trade me while he was in Seattle. But they were able to at least squash it and get through it. I think it's gonna be one of those things where both sides, specifically Jalen is gonna have to suck it up and just bite his teeth and try to get through next.
00:35:29
Speaker 1: How do you bite your teeth? Your analogy game is just all over the place today. How does one bite their own teeth? Is he trying to bite his tongue in this?
00:35:39
Speaker 3: Bite down on your teeth? You go to Dennis. Last thing that you do before you leave, is you bite down on your teeth. It's like bite down for me, like the florid part. No, it's like, you know, bite down for him. Make sure that you're you're biting down right. Wow, Okay, you've never have you been to the Dennis.
00:35:52
Speaker 1: How does this apply to Jaylen Brown? Again?
00:35:54
Speaker 2: Just gotta gotta get through it, grit your teeth.
00:35:59
Speaker 3: Yeah, I would. I'm like Gluto right now. I was rolling and then you stop me. You know how much more? You know, you would have completely killed the vibes in Animal House. You know you would have been would have been like me, and you would have been like me as a kid when dad, my dad used to say was it over? When the Germans bomb Pearl Harbor? Instead of you know, saying forget it, he's rolling, it'd be like no Bluto.
00:36:19
Speaker 2: It was the Japanese.
00:36:21
Speaker 1: Jeez ninety six ten. Smoke wants you all to bite your teeth. He wants Jaylen Brown to bite his teeth and get through it. All right, we got more to get to but right now, let's go to Smoke on the headlines.
00:36:36
Speaker 2: You're gonna let me get for this.
00:36:38
Speaker 1: I'm gonna shut up, turn my mic off if you need to.
00:36:40
Speaker 2: All right, thank you very much.
00:36:41
Speaker 3: Anyway, do have some NBA news that was out of nowhere last night? Is freegency began for the last couple of years, ever since he played in tournament or in season tournament excuse me, has begun a couple of years ago. They've had their final and championship games at Las Vegas. But I guess with the current situation involving the NBA and throwing of games with a couple of players, they might not want to have an n season tournament at Las Vegas. So now we know that the NBA Cup Championship will be held at Heinklefield House.
00:37:14
Speaker 1: Why I saw this last night? Why are they going to Hanckelfield House? Like, what's the poll? Is there some angle I'm missing here? Why is the NBA Cup Championship game gonna be on the campus of Butler University at hinkle Field House.
00:37:27
Speaker 3: Well, you know, Adam Silver likes Pratt Stevens, and Brad Stevens knows a guy who knows a guy.
00:37:33
Speaker 1: There's got to be some hook here that I'm missing, right.
00:37:35
Speaker 3: Look, I like hinkle Field House, don't get me wrong.
00:37:38
Speaker 2: Very cool venue. You know, Butler's always been a very good basketball school. We know about that. But for the.
00:37:44
Speaker 3: NBA to be going to hinkle Field House when you have a team in that city, you already have the Pacers in Indiana to Indianapolis.
00:37:52
Speaker 1: It's weird. It's a very weird thing to do. You have an indy five thousand surprised it wasn't Cameron that I mean, that would make more sense. Yeah, Cameron would make more sense. Still wouldn't make a lot of sense, but it would make more sense than Henklefield.
00:38:02
Speaker 3: Oh lord, you know they probably are like, oh, they actually don't have seats where the students are at Oh hell no, because you know their sponsors wouldn't like that.
00:38:10
Speaker 1: Wolf Pack James, bite your teeth, KB, I'll work on it. During the break, we'll come back. We'll tell you who bought out Roman Harper's back in sixteen minutes. Sports Radio ninety two to seven w f and Z City get on your beat.
00:38:36
Speaker 3: Hello, Good Protection twelve for the year Zone Lucky.
00:38:42
Speaker 1: Can you go to the buck?
00:38:43
Speaker 2: He's got good coming on him. Back to Mars running into the area. It'll pass toward.
00:38:52
Speaker 5: Uprights for Peppy counting out again.
00:38:56
Speaker 1: A time for who balled Out? Powered by High Performance real Estate Advisors and the biggest Dad gumballer of themal Thomas L.
00:39:11
Speaker 2: Rod.
00:39:11
Speaker 1: Go to high Performance real Estate dot com and they'll see you at the closing table. Smoke would you bring for the people.
00:39:16
Speaker 3: Well, I gotta go with former Oils first basement and designated hitter Chris Davis because of his awful stretch after his big contract. He got the third payments and his annual payment came today. He gets three point five million dollars in the third payments today and the best part for him, you're still twenty eight more ready for him to go.
00:39:36
Speaker 1: Well, hell coming years. Well in that vein Happy Bobby Benia Day everybody, the unofficial holiday in sports annually on July the first, marking the day that the New York Mets pay their former Major leaguer Bobby Bania an annual check of one point one nine million dollars. And in case you've forgotten it, I don't know how you could. In January of two thousand, the Mets decide to buy out the remaining contract of Bania, who had struggled heavily during the nineteen ninety nine season. Instead of paying the five point nine million dollars owed to him upfront, Benia and his agent, Dennis Gilberts agreed to defer the payment with a highly favorable eight percent annual interest rate. Because the payments were delayed by a decade. The original five point nine million grew to nearly thirty million dollars. Spreading this out over twenty five years from twenty eleven to two thousand and thirty five results in the exact annual payment of one million, one hundred ninety three thousand, two hundred and forty eight dollars and twenty cents every year on this day. And when that final payment is made to Bobby Benia in two thousand and thirty five, he will hopefully be seventy two years old. Happy Bobby Benia Day to every sports fan out there who celebrates. That's got to be one of the worst investments ever made in sports, right, Like, one of the worst financial decisions ever made in sports. Yeah, well, in the short term, it actually I think worked out for the Metskas in the short term, right, They were able to get Mike hamp and he was a big part of them making the World Series. Yeah, but it's like financing a new hell Cat off the lot and you know, taking it at a fifteen percent interest rate too, Like, no.
00:41:07
Speaker 3: No, you're right, And well, the problem is the best part about Bobbyia Day is it with it being on July first around this time eight years out of every ten years the Mets suck around this time they're in an awful stretch, and you think, as a Mets fan, oh, I can't get worse. And then every July first you get the notification Happy Bobby Benia Day. It's like, oh, yeah, right, I gotta get all those jokes today when I'm at work.
00:41:32
Speaker 1: What's the worst financial decision you've ever made? Like the worst investment? Like, what's the thing you feel the worst about spending money on in your lifetime? Does anything come to mind?
00:41:41
Speaker 3: Ooh uh, I was gonna say I didn't get I didn't buy it, but I did get it Jimmy class in Jersey. Ooh, but I didn't buy it, So I actually I also like.
00:41:53
Speaker 1: That that's not that bad. Though I bought a nissanic Sterra once. I didn't like it. I didn't Somebody out there is listening in the next stair is like fukb I just like they were hot for a minute. And you know, I had a truck that I needed to get rid of, and somebody talked me into buying an Esonic stra and I'm like, I've always been a truck guy, but I like SUV's and it's an off road vehicle, so it's kind of tough, it's kind of cool. And then I drove it for like eight months and I was like, I hate this thing.
00:42:18
Speaker 3: Actually, it's not really that bad of a thing. But when I was on you know back when Black Friday actually used to mean something back in the day, Oh yeah, that's true.
00:42:28
Speaker 2: I found this one little thing.
00:42:29
Speaker 3: It was like a mini not like a stuffed animal, but kind of like bigger that you could kind of place on the side version of a dar Vader, And I'm like, I'm gonna get this bad boy. Wasted about twenty five thirty dollars on it. It got dog hair all over it in an instant and was barely able to stand up, And it was just one of those things that were like, why the hell did I buy it?
00:42:47
Speaker 7: That?
00:42:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, what's the worst financial decision that you've ever made? Seven oh four five, seven ninety six ten, especially if it's sports related. But like on Bobby Benia Day, great for him, I mean for him, it's just a five point nine million into thirty million dollars Chris Davis and Christy Yeah, but like just five point nine into thirty is just an insane return on investment. What's the worst financial decision that you've ever made, especially as it relates to sports seven oh four five, seven oh ninety six ten, they're coming in. I was waiting for the first guy to say my ex wife, and there were two back to back on the text life immediately my ex wife, my ex wife I got married once, my ex wife Kenny t getting married. Some of y'all chose poorly. I'm sorry about.
00:43:34
Speaker 3: That, MOCERELLI stick not the worst, but currently that Orange City Edition LaMelo jersey in his closet.
00:43:40
Speaker 2: First off, you shouldn't have bought that.
00:43:41
Speaker 3: Is that look like I've like most of the Hornet City Edition jerseys.
00:43:46
Speaker 2: That orange one wasn't it. It just was not it. It was awful. I'm glad that that I don't have to look at that anymore.
00:43:52
Speaker 3: Not the LaMelo jersey, but just that orange It just okay.
00:43:57
Speaker 2: Heard it.
00:43:58
Speaker 1: And here's an angry Exterra guy says, I have a Nissan exter at KB and I've had it for a decade and love it. Hateter Lol, I'm sorry I tried it. I just didn't like it, that's all. And I paid way too much money for it, so I'm not here to hate. I don't care what anybody drives, but it just was not for me. The thing was terrible. On the interstated got a winner, what's the winner? What's the winner? Who sent the best?
00:44:16
Speaker 2: Someone texted it NFT is a dumb manage dude.
00:44:19
Speaker 1: Remember do you remember how mad people got at me a few years ago when I was just railing on the NFT thing.
00:44:24
Speaker 2: Yeah, because I didn't really know about it.
00:44:26
Speaker 3: And then I remember, of all people, of course, Terry Rozier was buying NFTs of his like game winning shot. I'm like, what the hell is an NFT? And then I'm looking at them like that's stupid. I can watch the thing on YouTube and I don't have to buy it for a single pan KP.
00:44:39
Speaker 1: You don't get it. You just don't understand the technology. And I'm like, no, I I think I got my my head pretty well wrapped around this one. You want me to pay money for something that's not tangible, that I can't hold that even though you say it's unique, I feel like I'm getting the same thing by watching it on YouTube or looking at a slightly different image elsewhere on the internet. No, I'm pretty sure I got my head around this one. And those of you spending boatloads of money on these NFTs, I think most people got burned on that. So I'm sure some people made money. I'm sure they'll be willing to tell you about it too, But that always seemed like an absolute ridiculous thing to invest into me. Panther Bo said he got his wife of Sam Darnel Jersey Panthers, Jersey ar spending forty bucks on parking at a Hornets game. Kidney Stone says getting married three times, Wow, justin from Myrtle Beach, probably my Xavier le Get Jersey lol. And then we got the stock guys, wolf Pack James. I owned like three to four k of Navidia pre COVID. I sold it during COVID and made a lot of money. Had I held onto it, it would be worth like thirty to forty K. Now, I'm an idiot, all right, that's I'm waiting for orts related.
00:45:40
Speaker 3: But yeah, yeah, waiting for an Inron text saying I'm bought stocking Inron in two thousand.
00:45:44
Speaker 2: I thought it was gonna work out.
00:45:45
Speaker 1: A two eight number. A freaking time share on eBay. Now you can buy one for a time share on eBay. I got a lot of questions, my man, I got a lot of questions if you were buying time shares on eBay. All right, what's the worst financial decision you have ever made, especially if it's sports related? Seven oh four five, seven ninety six to ten. Hit us up, denver Derg's the two happiest days. The day you buy a boat. The second is the day you sell your boat. You hear that from everybody. I mean almost everybody will tell you that exact same thing, the day you buy it and the day you sell it.
00:46:19
Speaker 3: That makes me think, you know, I kind of got a similar feeling to that, because last month I officially paid.
00:46:24
Speaker 2: Off my car. Oh good for you, and it was just wonders are like.
00:46:27
Speaker 3: It's one of the most first times I really felt like an adult.
00:46:30
Speaker 1: Oh, who's your Bobby? Said a Deonta Foreman, Jersey. Do I want to know how much you spent on that, Bobby?
00:46:37
Speaker 2: I don't want to know.
00:46:37
Speaker 1: I kind of do.
00:46:38
Speaker 3: It kind of makes me think as a kid I wanted of any Testaverdy Panthers Jersey.
00:46:43
Speaker 1: All right, Well, come back outur number three where late Roman Harper is going to join us We'll talk some football, We'll talk some NBA free agency with the two time Pro Bowler, super Bowl champion and SEC Network analyst Roman Harper. Next Sports Radio ninety two seven WF and Z
00:38:36

Speaker 2: He's got good coming on him. Back to Mars running into the area. It'll pass toward.
