PunkerDuckie: Hello everybody and welcome to this spoiler zone episode three. I'm your host, Meg aka Punker Ducky.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Hi, I'm Voni AKA Marvel Millennial.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): And I'm Liv and I'm on Instagram as calling spirits.
PunkerDuckie: So you may be noticing that we're missing our male influence today. Apparently there was a catastrophic power failure at Riley's house, so we're just gonna kinda go on without him because he can't join us, and we need we just feel like getting this out there because we have a lot of shit to talk slash things to bring up. So he did have some notes though, which thankfully we'll be pulling from. So if you want to know the grumpy old man opinion, we will be having those interjected periodically by me, because he left them in here for us. So this episode covers season two, episode five.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Excuses. Yes.
PunkerDuckie: Of X-Men 97. The title of that episode is Weapon X, Lies and DVDs, which is really hard for me to say and remember because it keep my brain keeps defaulting to the task version of this same title where it's a VHS. And I'm like, VHS, no, wrong title. It's DVDs. It's new. It's new for the new century, but yes. Anyway, so let's get into how we did on last episode.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): New technology.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mmm.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Ha, yes. So theories from last episode. so specific to what is gonna happen in this one, I think Meg, you were the only one that actually had a specific to next episode theory, and that was that Laura Kinney was gonna pop up in some form. How did we do?
PunkerDuckie: Crum, we got a crumb, okay? We got a crumb and I will take it. the only thing we got there was a vague mention of maybe something with two claws and then her little X twenty-three was on one of the DVDs that they were perusing during one of the scenes. So I count that as a win, alright? Let me let me have it.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mm-hmm.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Alright. I'm gonna count that as like it's an adjacent crumb. It's not it's crumb adjacent.
PunkerDuckie: Crumb adjacent. It's not a crumb sept it's
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Come
PunkerDuckie: not
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): on Jason
PunkerDuckie: a crumbception, it's crumb adjacent. It's just a just a touch.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yes. Yes. Just say a hint of crumb. Yes. I think all of our other theories are gonna be more of a like as the series goes on. because they're more on the kind of overarching themes here. So I think we can go ahead and skip the rest of those for now and we'll just carry them over until they become relevant.
PunkerDuckie: Hint of ground, yes.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: You know, I'm still saying, Team Kandra, she's gonna come back and do something, be my girl.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. I just I just I'm here for the angst.
PunkerDuckie: Yes. So I will say, like, Riley's Riley's only theory from the last time was just like deathbit. That's all he had. So I f I have a feeling like
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): I'm not.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Huh. Yeah. Just deathbit. He might be right.
PunkerDuckie: Well yes, yes, we we know that.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): The
PunkerDuckie: Like
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): worst kept secret
PunkerDuckie: at this point if he is wrong, we're all gonna riot. So yeah. but I I like how his like personality with watching these is like basically like, just wake me up when the boy's back and then I will discuss. So Like honestly I feel that, but I do like the angst, so I have to have the build up for it, but
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah. Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Like I'm I'm very much waiting and I'm like, my god, we're Izzy But at the same time, what we're getting in the meantime is pretty fucking great. So
PunkerDuckie: Yeah. Emotional damage. That's what we're getting. That's basically Every Every week it's just like, who's dying now? alright. Let's get into this Yeah, let's get into this episode.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, it's fucking great. Our hopes and dreams. Okay, so when I got up to watch this episode and I messaged Meg that I was awake, her first words to me were, You're going to hate it. And I didn't have context for that. So I was like, okay, that could mean so many things. Like, is it just boring filler? Are they like, are they gonna kill off someone that I care about? Like, I don't know, but th that warning made me extremely anxious going into it.
PunkerDuckie: You're welcome. And I gave her zero context too. I was like, You're gonna hate it. so Riley's only comment yeah. Really this is gonna be gre I actually like commented in our like live react on Discord. I was like, Liv is gonna fucking hate this. Like
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): No none.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): I think we all said the same.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, so whenever I finish the episode, because I don't go in there until I'm done, it was I think five different people I've been like, cannot wait for Liv to watch this. Liv's gonna hate this. And I'm like, I fucking hate all of you.
PunkerDuckie: Yep. Yep. Yes, as you should. We're terrorists. Yeah, Riley's only comment here for like the whole first couple of sentences that we have written out is can we talk about Forge's title card in the intro? That may be said, cool. That's the only positive thing that Riley has to say for this entire It was cool, I will give him that.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): That was cool, but
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): That was cool though! Cause is
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): It was.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Is that the first time that Forges had a title card? Okay, okay.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yes.
PunkerDuckie: It is the first time. Yes. Also, tangent. Sorry. It's related. I wasn't aware, apparently, Forge didn't have a first name until the animated series gave him one. And that may have been I think it was I think it was this one. Yeah. So because I saw somebody saying something about it online about like how he didn't have a first name, but then they called him Daniel, and I was like, did he not?
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): really?
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Like this animated series or the original animated series? What? No.
PunkerDuckie: But then I realized like I've never heard Forge referred to anything other than Forge this entire time. Yeah, just Forge. I don't remember them referring to him anything other than Forge on the original animated one either. So If someone feels like digging down that rabbit hole, it's there for you. Figure out when Forge was named.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Forge. Huh. Hmm.
PunkerDuckie: I do think his title card is not only well deserved, but it took far too long for him to get. Like, just 'cause he s was pretty instrumental, I would say, in the first season with Storm and everything.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Well I guess they I mean with with the with the intro, the beats of it, they can really only kind of fit in so many I I like I've never counted. I don't know how many people that they kind of have as like the featured characters. so maybe it was just kind of like they needed to focus on the main people.
PunkerDuckie: Well, you know, they
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): because
PunkerDuckie: have a
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): they were losing that minute?
PunkerDuckie: space now 'cause they they took Magneto out, so they just slid forward right in there. Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Y exactly! Well I mean to be fair, that's what they did with Gambit. It's like, we got Nightcrawler! god! no!
PunkerDuckie: That is what they did with Cambit.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): no.
PunkerDuckie: I I'm just picturing like the the Indiana Jones scene where he's like taking the statue and replacing it with like a bag of dirt. Like Magneto Forge. Just like that. Just so we wouldn't notice it.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yes. Yeah, that's definitely how that works, yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Ugh, also live I knew like the second that you saw like what I was talking about when I was like you're gonna hate it that you were gonna say something and quite literally like she DMs me immediately after like the timing where it would take to get to the brood and she was just like god fucking damn it like those are the only three words that she said to me and I was like proved my theory. There is so much brood goo in this episode, like so much So much brood goo. Huh
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Just a fucking lot of it.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): so much.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yep. Yep.
PunkerDuckie: Anyway, yep.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): So yeah, we'll we'll we'll get to that. We'll get to that. but yeah, so I I went into this with like some pretty low expectations. Like I was ki I was expecting to be underwhelmed, and like I don't mean that in a bad way, mostly just because based on the title and kind of like the pacing looking at this one and the next one, they both seem like they're gonna be filler episodes. And like we kind of mentioned in the beginning, like, I'm just I'm here waiting for glimpses of my boy. And so I'm like anything. Between here and there is just like, my god, get on with it to me right now. But yeah, so like Boolverine had to get his Adamantium back somehow, obviously. but considering we only have nine episodes, I'm like, do we have time for this? Do we have time for this side quest? Could we just have done this one off panel?
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You Yeah. You
PunkerDuckie: You know yes and no. I don't know, I I like the build up and I feel like i they gave us like the little coffin part. Like I think if they just would have given us like another little crumb.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I need more. Yes, we need the little crumbs. Like I I think that the way that I worded it on the Discord earlier is that I don't need to see the whole shark, but I would like to see some of the shark. Like just just the fin. Cause I mean like that's e I I I need that anticipation to continue. Like I need the the like some appearances, some crumbs in between. But yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Just the fin, just for a second. Just Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: You know, I wonder if like going back and re-watching this after it's all out, you'll like, this is great, because like the anticipation is gone and like you know where it's come like it's gonna be s it's gonna be different on the rewatch, I have a feeling. We're all just impatient now. So Riley's only comment here is this was a filler episode, and I went in with no expectations, and I was not disappointed. Because it's underwhelming none of my top five are in this episode, which is exactly where I thought he would be. He's just like
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Yeah. yeah. A hundred percent. He's
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): my goodness, Raleigh.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): so grumpy. Like, I love how we're all pretty single minded focused, but then you have Riley.
PunkerDuckie: Give me the boy! Give me the boy. I mean our entire podcast is like gambit spotting, but we're we're at least willing to look at the other fucking characters, right? Like Yeah, that's it. We gotta stop recording. We're done. Yeah, that's it. Bye bye. No, I was like I was honestly hoping that the filler episode would be fluff. Like I
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): There was nothing to spot in this episode. Sorry, everybody.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yep. Thanks for watching Gambit Spotting.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You You
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Like because the the shit that we dealt with like last week. Like so much awful, horrible thing and and like death and like seeing like the whole Charles Magneto Magneto getting annihilated. Like that was a lot. I however, yeah. Not in a good way.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm, that's fair. See Magneto's insides.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): you
PunkerDuckie: What's that face for? There's I guess there's never a good way to see someone's inside's Well, maybe I'm gonna stop that thought right here before I get myself in trouble. Bonnie's like reaching for the pineapple, like where is it? Where is it? It's coming. No, I just I was expecting like fluff and filler and like, it's a Wolverine, like we're get like Wolverine. I was not expecting the full blown fucking horror movie shit that was happening.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): No. Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: So I was like, holy this
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: is not fluff. This is not fluff. What is happening? Yeah, that's where my mind went. My god. Ugh.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I was cool with it. Yeah. I was just honestly really glad that they had Morph in this lineup because like when they're kinda going around the helicopter and everything, I was like, Okay, no offense here to any of these lovely characters, but it like, Okay, side character I don't care about, side character I I don't care about. Sabertooth is all right, Yuriko I was cool, and I'm like, god, I am not gonna there's Morph! Okay, okay, all right. This this is gonna be good. This is gonna be good. Like, I I think that that that kinda elevated it for me. but I was really surprised overall
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): through the episode of like how much character development that there was. Like I was really happy that they were getting some actual spotlight time.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah, I do like that Eureko clocked Morph fucking immediately. Can we just put that out there? Like their first first interactions! Everyone's like, We know what you are, So Riley's note is I never liked Morph. Sorry, just don't like the character. Yeah. Th I like this iteration better.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): So it's saber tooth, to be fair.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah. Yeah, love morph.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yes.
PunkerDuckie: Than the original Morph. Because when I was a kid, the original Morph freaked me out. something about like the laugh and their face and I just didn't like them. I r I remembered them from the original and I was like I am not a fan. But the new version is very endearing and I love their humor and their quips and the the way they're written
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: There's there's such a like a deep and complex character for like how Morph was in the first iteration. Like obviously you have that like kinda unrequited love that's going on there and it's it's a much deeper take on the character than I think I was expecting. But I I'm not mad about it. Like I'm I I really legitimately like it.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yes.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Right. Yeah. I mean like so to be fair, in the original series, like They were not supposed to stick around. That was supposed to be the like that was the original gut punch, which also just like I know how we're all like, man, they do all these like dramatic things. That is in the show's DNA, like the we're gonna do something unexpected for I don't wanna say for shock value, but somewhat for shock value to like, no, like the stakes are serious. This is not just a kid's show. so like the original plan was they were supposed to get killed off and not come back and then
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): And people were like, no, we like that character, so they had to bring them back. but because of that, I don't think that they that they ever really gave them a lot of major like character aspects to begin with. Definitely not in the first appearance. They were just kind of more like the comic relief than anything else. but then like yeah, but then whenever they came back, it was the only character trait was manipulated by Sinister and traumatized. Which
PunkerDuckie: Yeah. Freaky homic relief.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): you know, valid, but doesn't really give you a chance to actually get to know the character, you know what I mean? so yeah, I think that ninety seven's like really approached it a lot better. Like it's it's given them more of kind of like a fresh start to approach it almost. The laugh also freaked me out when I was a kid. I hated it. I I do appreciate that they did like kind of a nod to it in the first episode of season one. but then it was just like, We're never mentioning it again. Like, what what creepy laugh.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah. It it was the creepy laugh and then when they came back they were bad for a little bit there. And then I was like, I don't like this person. They're fucking around with my gambit and rogue and I do not appreciate it. And then it was just yeah, like the fucking PTSD trauma like battle card character. It's just like Cool. Don't like that.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: But like I said, ninety ninety seven has brought out so much character development and like levels. I think they're really good with kind of intermixing like the comic book stories and like a little bit of new stuff and then nods to other stuff and just making more of a brand new creation basically for this show, but still rooted in stuff that's recognized. Plus they're funny as hell.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Yeah. Mm. Yeah. S Yes. my god. I d I l honestly most a lot of my favorite dialogue and like the quips and stuff are are morphs lines. Like season one, I just I love it so much.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Absolutely.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Speaking of adaptations and redesigns, Lady Death Strike, Yuriko. she looks so good here, I gotta say. Like I so funnily enough, I I needed background while I was working on the wig from hell over there. so I just I tossed on the animated series. I powered through the entire Phoenix arc and the dark phoenix arc. It that is how long this thing took me.
PunkerDuckie: She's burst desk. Jesus.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): But yeah, so while I was going through that, the what is it called? Out is it Out of the Past? I think is is the name of the the two episodes. Is it Part one, part two? that that she's in. And I like those episodes, but at the same time her character design is always had freaked me out. Like the proportions are super weird, especially when when they're doing like the flashback and she comes out of the like, you know, whatever transformation chamber thing. Cause like you can see where her arms used to like, you know, end in normal human proportions. And like her freaking fingers are almost down to her feet when she comes out. And I don't think that it was meant to be like that, but I'm just like, what the fuck? I don't like that at all.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): But yeah, so they like I think that they've kind of proportioned her back in. She looks a bit more like more of a like enhanced human proportion, not dear god, what the fuck. So she looks good. I like it.
PunkerDuckie: It is it is important not to have characters and make you go dear god what the fuck.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: I was also gonna say, like, I I feel like this adaptation of her in ninety seven is more on par with the comics, but still not quite. Like it's so kind of its own thing. But it is like at least like recognizable and people that are familiar will be like, Hey, like, we know where this comes from and she looks badass though. I do. I her facial expressions in this episode were
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, it is its own thing. Mm-hmm. they're so good.
PunkerDuckie: Fucking everything. Like she's saying s saying so much without saying a word at all and it that's really hard to animate, so they they get kudos for that.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): you
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, they did so good on it. Yeah. And then also the writing on this is is so good because I like I was sitting down, I was watching it. I was already like nervous because you s you just said I was gonna hate it. and I was like, Okay, so we're we're setting we're setting up mission parameters, like we're going around doing it. It was it was almost kind of similar to like the the beginning of like X-Men Origins Wolverine, where they're kind of all all the military people are sitting around like, you know, talking shit in the helicopter and whatever.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: You're welcome.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): And then it's like, okay, we're setting this up, we're having some banter, yay, Morphus here, we're being sassy. and then just like, holy shit, the helicopter crashed, like what? Like I I didn't see that coming. I was like, whoa God, okay, we're doing stuff.
PunkerDuckie: Like the helicopter scene, I feel like lulled us into a false sense of security a little bit. Because like Morph was just basically had zero chill that entire thing. But then like the the the commentary is like, yeesh, and I thought you and Gene were unhealthy. I was fucking still laughing about that when the helicopter went down. And then I was like, wait, what the fuck just happened? Because I was so like hung up on like that interaction that I was like, this is fucking great. I hope this continues. And then I was like, no, like
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): yeah. Ha ha ha ha. man. Yeah. Yeah. also did not see Kane getting impaled by a tree. I was not upset. No. I I was not upset though, he was annoying. but fuck they really are killing everyone off. Like Ross was not exaggerating. I thought he was exaggerating.
PunkerDuckie: Anybody gonna see that coming? Yeah, no not at all. Braile Brightly's comment here is they've killed a lot of people off, but so far no one important I was like, okay. First of all
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Listen, listen, I know that we're like, you know, rah-rah gambit and all that, but like i i come on, killing off magneto is pretty significant. Like we can we can acknowledge that.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah. Magneto was very important to Charles. Okay. Yes.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Also Ball was kind of important.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): You know, he was a very important father figure. Mm-hmm.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Meg.
PunkerDuckie: It was.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): that sold him to slavery or made him a slave.
PunkerDuckie: He was sh just
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Did he make him a slave? I
PunkerDuckie: but he was
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): thought that he like guided him through the Hey, this everything sucks but like I'm here for you.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): I don't know. Xavier said
PunkerDuckie: He guided him He made him happier about being a slave. I don't Nope, don't like that.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): He found him in the desert. That's what Xavier said, so he mustered them.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm.
PunkerDuckie: poor ball.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Alright, we're still balless. Continuing. So is it bad that my first thought when I saw Kane get absolutely rocked by that tree was, thank fucking god, he was super annoying. Like I legitimately was not excited about listening to him talk for the rest of the episode. He was giving like Wade Wilson an origins, but somehow worse? Like I didn't think that was possible.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm. He was very annoying.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): about.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Yeah. way worse, 'cause honestly, no no I I enjoyed the banter with like Wade Wilson in Origins. In the beginning. In the beginning. Whatever the f we we we don't we don't talk about what happened at the end. That wasn't Deadpool. We we don't we don't we don't talk about Deadpool.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: Yeah. But this was We don't talk we don't talk about Deadpool. We we're just talking about Wade specifically. But yeah. But I was like, how is this like it's so much more cringy and horrible? And then I was like, he's dead. We don't have to fucking worry about him anymore. It was some very like final destination shit though for like a kid show. Can we just put that out there? Like this This would have traumatized me if I would have watched it as a child. I'm not even shitting you. Like Beetlejuice traumatized me. And you guys like see how innocuous that movie is?
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm. Mine mm. Aww.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mm.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: It like fucked me up for weeks, legitimately. Like I even as an adult, I cannot watch it. This show, if I would have watched this, it would've been nightmares, no sleep for like six months, I'm guaranteeing you.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): yeah, no, I I hadn't tell a friend of mine 'cause she was we're talking about just like X-Men anime series stuff, and she was like, yeah, like my kid just started watching that and I was like Like Heinon, hang on, the the cur like ninety-seven and she's like, Yeah, the old one like no no no no no no no no no no I'm asking you 'cause it says ninety-seven in it. It's in the title. That does not mean that it is I'm not saying it's from the nineties. It picked up where the original show left off. So I'm like, which one are you showing your child?
PunkerDuckie: Mm.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Like, is it campy? And she's like, Yeah. I'm like, okay, thank God. All right, do not show them 97.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: Yeah, you're fine then. god Yes, like between like gambit and magneto and genocide and like Do not to the fore dear god no. I mean maybe Yeah. Maybe they would be like, he's just sleeping He's just sleeping on the tree. He's taking a little nap. He's just taking to make sure the tree's okay.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Cause she's like, yeah, like my four year old, my four year old. I'm like, do not show them this
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Kids are different, built nowadays. It's just...
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Ugh. Like, my parents used to have me look away when they showed the roasted bones of Uncle Owen and Aunt Baru, like.
PunkerDuckie: my god. I appreciate the like the throwback Star Wars reference there. That's
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I d they were convinced I was gonna get traumatized by that. I like look how I turned out. but I
PunkerDuckie: You're fine. You're fine, perfectly fine. Anyway, not for children. That's so dark, so fast.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Not for children. yes. But yeah. on a on a lighter note, I think that especially for this being a filler episode, I liked the character interactions that we had. Like, even though we immediately lost somebody, which like who cares? It's fine. But like just the little interactions and the banter, 'cause like I think we talked about this before. Like I I really like
PunkerDuckie: Hey it's fucked that guy, that's fine.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): like shows and books and stuff where it's very it's very bantery, like like Buffy, Firefly, like old the the first Avengers and stuff like that. Like I feel like that is so good for character development, even though like even if it's just like dialogue and small moments, like that really helps to enrich the story. So like just how Sabretooth and Yuriko are interacting with Morph like very, very different ways. Was really well done. Like they both definitely immediately clocked it. But like Yuriko's like she seems like she actually cares. Like she's actually worried about Morph. And I feel like she kind of i is in a position to as the ex. but also like when they're going through
PunkerDuckie: Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): the actual base and like I I immediately caught it on the first time and then I like I I caught it every I've seen it three times now. when they're passing through and they see like that first window with like the dead scientists inside, Maverick just like wordlessly passes Morph a gun.
PunkerDuckie: I mean
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): And I was like, my god, like that's it's it's so subtle. I mean like there's there's no dialogue there. It's just like this this shit's more fucked than we thought, like here you go, little buddy, so you can defend yourself. I was like, okay, that that's kinda nice
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: I think wordlessly passing someone a gun is the correct s course of action for this particular situation. Like Yes, yes, here. Yes. Take this. Please take this. I do just I I appreciate how both Morph and Sabretooth, like, a clocked morph immediately. But then where you could tell, like on the same wavelength but from different angles, like what they were what they were discussing.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yep. Yes, very different angles. Yes.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mm-hmm.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: And like Mariko again was saying a lot with her face. Like it was just like, honey, no. Like like it's just the judgment and like the little fucking calling him, was it Tomo? Calling him Tomo like the whole time? Yep.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Tomo. I didn't know
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): tunnel.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): that they were going to actually elaborate on that, so I'd actually paused it and was like, what does tomo mean in Japanese? And then we like we went into great detail, like way better than what I got from Googling. So good job.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: I Googled it too! Yeah. Yeah. It's important if you're going to mention something that's culturally relevant that you do it with a lot of education behind it and she did, so Yes.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yep.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yes, yes, yes, yes. so then we get to my favorite part where I think I I I forgot what I messaged right before that, 'cause I think I messaged that like I was nervous about them killing off Morph. Cause I was like, Okay, you said I was gonna hate it. And I I think I said it was either something about like they better not kill off Morph or like he's being society it was something more fleet. And then my next Morph Lady yeah!
PunkerDuckie: Yeah. No, you were like morph my baby or something like that.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Haha.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): That's a morphine baby. and immediately all caps, god fucking damn it, because that was 100% where I was at. I was like, Of course it's the goddamn brood.
PunkerDuckie: And then immediately God damn it!
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: I will say, like, I I thought the brood was coming. Obviously, like we saw like the back of one in the trailer. But I thought they were coming later. Like I my brain was like, we're doing Louisiana potentially because of the fucking trees. It's like, where was the brood? Fucking Louisiana! I'm give me. They're Louisiana trees! Let me have my fucking crumb, okay? Louisiana trees, brood.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yes, yeah. Yeah. You're so focused on the trees. You're so focused on the trees. They're Louisiana trees, I'm telling you! gonna die if they're not actually Louisiana trees.
PunkerDuckie: Vonnie's favorite Belladonna, it's all coming together. It's
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Not Bella Donna.
PunkerDuckie: gonna be a Louisiana tree. It's all coming together. We're gonna get fucking Ghost Rider Belladonna and Vonnie's gonna hate it and it's gonna be great.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): No, not Bella Donna. No.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I would just also like to point out on my rewatch, I did notice not to dash your dreams of Louisiana trees, not saying that they're not Louisiana trees, but the way that they drew that stopped glaring at me, the way they kind of drew the the the various foliage in around the mansion, 'cause it's whenever Jean is about to pass baby cable on never to be seen again. those
PunkerDuckie: Tread carefully.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Also looked similar to what was in the trailer and they had fireflies. So I'm just. I'm not ruling it out. I'm
PunkerDuckie: Off, it's a Louisiana tree. I'm not listening to you. Blah blah blah. Let me live in my delusion. Let me live in my delusion until the end of episode nine, and then you can shit all me out all everyone. But I'm just saying, I thought the brood was coming later. I thought they were gonna be in Louisiana, and then they're here now, and it's fucked up my plan already, okay.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): It could be around the mansion. It could also be around the mansion.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): denial.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): It's I'm I'm not even gonna say for sure that they are, because I know that if I do and they turn out to be Louisiana Trees, you're gonna be fucking insufferable about it. So I'm just going to throw out that they may or may not be.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: I am absolutely going to be insufferable about it. To be fair, I will give full credit where it is due. Lady Quall Art is the first one that was like, that looks like a Louisiana tree. And then I was like, shut the fuck up and like zoomed in, and then I was like, my god, yes, yes, I see it, I see it, I know where you're going with this. So she started my delusion. It's all her fault. I love you. I love you, Lady Qualart, for giving me a crumb that I could cling to desperately for the entirety of the season.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I I want it to be true. I would also not be surprised if it ends up being the mansion and they just threw the trees that way.
PunkerDuckie: You're an asshole, I hate you. Anyway, back to this episode. I I honestly like both Riley and I could not wait for your thoughts on the brood. 'Cause there was just
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Hehehe
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Apparently you and like you, Riley, Vonnie and like five other people. Cause seriously there were so many people in there that were like, my god, I can't wait until Lyps seizes fuck all of you.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: So much prude go. So much food go.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): There's a lot of brood goo and also like I d ug like I just I hate them. I hate them so much. It's not like the goo is mostly the main thing because brood goo sounds terrible. But just the the props to whoever did the various, you know, sound effects stuff. because hearing them fly around was I don't like it. Mm-mm.
PunkerDuckie: It is terrible. Yeah. Does this sound like cicadas?
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): They don't sound like Well
PunkerDuckie: A little bit. Little bit. Ugh.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): They're not they're not screaming, at least. but yeah, no, it's just that like that fluttery, buzzy mm-mm. I don't like it. Mm-mm. Not a fan. So, but it was fine. I made it through it. I did like that they had a kind of in-passing reference to Love in Vain, our favorite episode ever of the animated series.
PunkerDuckie: Yet. Hmm. Fuck you, Cody Robbins.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): because Logan says that he's smelled something similar before, but that it isn't the same. So we are kind of acknowledging the like not brood that Cody brought to Earth. So Yes. Frood The Frood
PunkerDuckie: So like fraudulent brood. So like fruit, if you will. Frude, yes. The fruit. They're related but different. Timu brood This just sounds like the Swedish chef, it doesn't sound like actual Swedish.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Timmu brood.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Sounds like Swedish somehow. Fruit The Fruit
PunkerDuckie: Root to Brook.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Fuck.
PunkerDuckie: see how quickly we devolve into the Muppets when left to our own devices, guys. Again, every time.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): my god, again, yeah. I think you've given me a new vocal sim. Fruit is really fun to say.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You you
PunkerDuckie: You're welcome.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): man. But like the the little nods to old school sci-fi were really good because like we kind of initially like aliens is very much there and we get like very direct references in it as well. But there was also some like with the thing with you know kind of like we didn't see you at the crash, like you could be infected, like who's infected? Like I was like, we're doing like like old school sci-fi horror, like I'm here for this.
PunkerDuckie: So many of those lines either like directly referenced or like piggybacked off stuff from th like those movies for like Alien specifically and don't remember which which movie it was now because it's been a long time since it's there's one of those they kill off a guy named Kane like right off the bat.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm-hmm. Mm.
PunkerDuckie: I saw like somebody like posted on Twitter. Now I gotta like go down the rabbit hole and find it where they were like they like took a picture of the guy's name tag that was like the first to die in one of these movies and it said like Kane on it and they were like, see that tracks like killing the same dude. I'm here for it though, like honestly, like all the references, like I don't I'm not generally like a like a horror gore movie person, but I do like like the alien
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Huh. Now I'm wondering. Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: franchises and like all of that shit. So I was like this is hitting my niches.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): I do like the
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Fun fact I fell asleep during the last one.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): the little nod that they did you mentioned about it referencing the thing in that and then morph turned into the thing.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm.
PunkerDuckie: Yes. For the smashing For the smashing and
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Well he did right be right right beforehand. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah, I thought that was like a little double, double nod there of the thing, the thing.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): that's funny. I didn't even think about that.
PunkerDuckie: So much extra brood goo with the thing. Just squashing
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): More green brook? Fruit!
PunkerDuckie: Fr no this is this was actual this is Broodgoo TM.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah the the no this is this is full
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): But, good.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): full bore the proper brood goo. Authentic no
PunkerDuckie: This is this is authentic authentic brood goo. Ugh, you're welcome for that visual. It's vinta it's vintage Birdgoo. Vintage ninety seven
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I hate it.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mm.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): That's disgusting. Thank you. Yeah, all right, shifting topics. I forgot Maverick was German. I legit forgot. and I actually went and I rewatched the an the original animated series episode where he's in the Weapon X lies and videotape. It's if it's there, it's really subtle.
PunkerDuckie: So I I knew that he was talking with some kind of accent, but it legitimately wasn't until your note where you're like, I forgot he was German. I was like, that's what they were trying to do. Like, 'cause I couldn't like place it. Like I knew it was something. But it it I was like, it sounds like a lazy curt kinda like it wasn't quite like Kurt level, but it's it was it was in the echelon there. Yaw
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): It's
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Yeah, he's German. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's it's it's it's it's a light, vague German. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, if you will.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: Ya de Brute Goo.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): seven Rose.
PunkerDuckie: what a time to be alive. I'm getting to torture you so much more with the brood goo here than I did when we actually went through the run in Louisiana on Gambit Spody where we discussed the brood in detail.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I need to know who on the creative team decided that the brood needed to go here and I need to have a conversation with them.
PunkerDuckie: Let's just blame Jake. Jake for coming for you. We'll never find him. If
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I was gonna say honestly it felt like a Jake move. It felt like a Jake move. Like
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): it's this I already don't believe he exists, so this is not going well.
PunkerDuckie: He has assured me that he is coming to San Diego Comic-Con. If he stands us up, we will talk shit about him once more. I know that he's I've seen him, okay? I have seen him, I have spoken to him in person in front of groups of people. My husband and Mel Levelbo, she can she can vouch because he was at San Diego last year. He disappeared a lot, but he was there last year. Like she saw, she put eyes on him. He's a real person.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I thought you were gonna say he's assured me that he exists. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Uncle. Okay, just I'm just saying there's been like three opportunities in which he was gonna be there and then Maybe. Yeah. He's like, fuck you in particular, Liv. Here's some brood.
PunkerDuckie: Maybe he just hates you. That's why he's putting the bird go in. He gets specifically
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Hehehehehe
PunkerDuckie: targeted at you.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): anyway, where were we besides showrunners hating me? god, I d would like it to circle anywhere else.
PunkerDuckie: Birdgo. Circles back to Bird Goo.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Okay, so yeah, okay, and next next thing I have here is the nod to Laura, which I don't know if it's a nod to Laura or not. I don't know if I put that here. so when they are going inside the murder base after they like kind of split up, one of the scientists has what looks it looks like there's two bone claws sticking out of them. So and I think that they made someone had made a comment where they were like, some like some wildlife got in or something, and I think that look
PunkerDuckie: I'm counting it. I'm counting it.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Logan says something about like or something clawed its way out. So that could we have maybe Laura was in facility and like escaped. Maybe, maybe.
PunkerDuckie: See I think Claude the Way Out seems to me more of a direct reference to potentially like Laura than the brood doing it. And like I feel like they that line was dropped intentionally. So between that and between the DVD that they found that said X twenty three on it, I like squealing. I'm like, Give me, give me, give me, give me, give me, give me, give me. Sorry.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. The D V D did say X twenty three. Yeah, yeah. There were a lot of
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): names on that. I I take a picture of it for later if it ever ends up actually coming up.
PunkerDuckie: I actually did too. So there was like Ajax was there Winter Soldier, Bonnie. I was like, Bonnie's gonna scream when she sees that,
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yay! Yeah, it's pretty much people who've been experimented on one way or the other.
PunkerDuckie: They actually had one of them in there. I was watching some like breakdown where they actually like went through on YouTube each one of those, every single one of those. it is out there. I'll have to find it and link it in the comments. it was on YouTube or it was on Instagram it was an Instagram reel maybe. But the one of them was whatever the program is that they worked on Luke Cage with. So there is like like l like literally all of them are kind of like sprinkled in there. and I was like and then I think Marrow Marrow was in there, which I don't I didn't follow
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Every single one? Ooh.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mm-hmm.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: a lot of her comics, so maybe she got into like it Yeah but one of the one of the tapes actually said like marijuana here let me bring up the let me bring up the images it's important to use your references kids
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): think it was something that was linked to my row. It was one of the tapes that... I don't know.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yep, doing that too. Gotta find it.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): I know one said 18.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): you know there might be marrow at it might be marrow at the top. It's really cut off in my picture.
PunkerDuckie: I have a lot of pictures. Yeah, I think it's like the far the like the last one on the far right, but like the this cl
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, 'cause there was also that says Maverick. I think that one says Maverick, actually.
PunkerDuckie: Silver Fox, Cyborg. The one that might say marrow?
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Hana, 'cause what's in bef what's in front of it?
PunkerDuckie: Well Mastodon. Mastodon's terrifying and I'd forgotten about them until right now. one thing that that is on here that I fucking hate, Phantomex. I have, by the way, you guys, we haven't gotten to this yet because we haven't hit that on Gambit Spotting the Regular Raid 3 yet, because he's not created just yet. I cannot fucking stand Phantomex. Like, he's a knockoff Gambit. I do not like him. My favorite comic panel, I think, of all time, is the one where Gambit like kicking him through a door.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): See?
PunkerDuckie: I would frame that and put it in the office somewhere. Like if I could get a big enough shot of it. I do not like that guy. So when I saw them bring, I like, they better not fucking bring Phantom X. I cannot stand that, dude. I let me rephrase that. If they bring him in and then immediately cane him, I'm okay with that.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Okay, I take it back. I don't think that that one is Maverick. I think that could be Marrow. But why would Marrow be there?
PunkerDuckie: Yeah, see it looked like it looked like an R I don't know. See that's they're building they're building extra stuff.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mmm.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Interestingly enough, Agent Zero is in there as well, and that is and that's as alone is like, is this the last we see of Maverick? I'm like, not necessarily because at one point in one of his arcs he becomes Agent Zero. So that might be something for the future. Tun tun
PunkerDuckie: Agent Zero is in there, yes. Dun dun dun. Well, I also like they
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You know how,
PunkerDuckie: they planned back to pan back to him after he was dead and showed him still kind of like I mean he was obviously dead, but like they made a point to they made a point to show the body like so long afterwards. I feel like that was kind of weird.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm. Yeah. He's very dead. Like Mm. Yeah,
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You know how I like numbers. You know how one of the DVDs, which is the one that they played, just said 18. I just ran with 18. So I've looked at comic issues and there's only one I can find. It's very loosely, I think, a loose stringboard theory. But X-Men number 18 in 1993 actually has Omega Red on the cover.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm-hmm.
PunkerDuckie: no.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yep. Yes. Please. What do you got? Yep. Yeah. Mm.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): strangling a load of X-Men including Wolverine and I've not a chance to have a full read of it but it is about the X-Men team going to the facility where Omega Red is actually in it.
PunkerDuckie: Well, that's then a foreshadowing apparently of what's about to happen in this particular episode.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Think I might have that one.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): So yes. That's the only one I could find
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I I saw that one too and I was like, this has to mean something so I tried to do a Vonnie and I was like, I got nothing. No nobody can do Avonnie. She's just just a little insane enough to make it work.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): on a quick look.
PunkerDuckie: No no one could do a Vonnie. She's the only one that can do.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Okay.
PunkerDuckie: I do like they had Maggot in that for like thirty seconds before they apparently killed him. So that's it Yeah. Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): super killed him, yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): turned into a big brood
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yes. Which I okay, actually no, never mind. I'll I'll I'll bring that up in a minute. have a thought on that, but yeah. We we we can circle back around to it.
PunkerDuckie: But now it's become apparent that Wolverine is not going where he said he was going to be going, and he was going he goes where he wants to go and does what the fuck he wants to do, which is very in character for him, and he's like, I'm gonna go get my Adamantium back. Fuck y'all, basically. yeah. And that ends poorly, 'cause guess what happens? Fucking brood gets him. Terribleness. And then we have the Maverick
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yep. He goes where he wants to go. Terribleness. yes.
PunkerDuckie: Fucking panic. Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, yeah. so broodverine was nightmare fuel. Well done.
PunkerDuckie: The name. also when we got the full view and it was just like that comic cover, I can't remember it was it who d who drew the comic cover, him like as the brood. It was like he did that where he kind of stands off to the side and is like looking that way. It was like beat for beat, like that comic cover, and I was like, my god, look at the fucking Easter egg. They did that, they did I was like I was pointing at it like the Leonardo DiCaprio meme, like the ug duh, like I recognize that.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm. Yeah. They they did it! Crazy sons of bitches, they did it!
PunkerDuckie: That's glorious. Glorious.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yes. Okay, so now I'll go on my it's not really a tangent, it was just kind of a question. so the plan to like cure wolv broodverine of being broody. I don't think I don't think we can ever cure him of that, but he's always broody. is Morph is like, if we get his adamantium back
PunkerDuckie: Heh. Yeah, he's always broody. Brood or not.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): From what we saw on the recording, the brood can't survive the adamantium process, so that'll fix it. And he's got a healing factor, so like he'll survive it and the brood won't. I wasn't entirely sure I was following that logic. I'm gonna allow it. But my when I was watching No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. It's more of the the order of operations because in the my god, guys, I'm talking just in in in plot here, not in science. Shut up.
PunkerDuckie: It's not real science.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Marvel magic.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): 'Cause in the in the tape the scientist was like, none of the subjects have like survived long enough in the changeover process to be fully controlled, let alone see how they would survive the adamantium process. So they'd hadn't even gotten to the point of like, will they survive the adamantium process? So and the whole reason why, like, Wolverine is one of only people that has full adamantium is because he has a healing factor. So like it was just it was a little bit of a jump in the order of operations of like, they they didn't put the adamantium in because it would kill the brood. Like They didn't put the adamantium in because none of the test subjects would have survived putting the adamantium in. I don't know if Yeah, so I I I feel like that was a little bit of a leap, but it was a successful leap, and thus I will allow it.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah. It kills everyone, generally speaking. I was also thinking, like, aren't the brood like, don't they like exoskeletons? Like that 'cause they're like insect things, right? So, like
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, but when they like change over someone I guess it changes, I don't know.
PunkerDuckie: I like, would it make wouldn't it make like make them like lock up and be immovable? Like who the fuckin knows. I was like I was legitimately putting too much thought into like an adamantium exoskeleton after this because of you. So Yeah, there's a lot of visuals that I didn't need or want. That's I I would argue worse than Brood Goo, actually. The nightmare feel
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): gross. no, I don't like that. Yeah no. Nobody needs that.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): No.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I would not argue that, actually. Brood goo is still worse. Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Alright.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: It looked like I was seeing you doing like a no context spoiler for the episode and just using like did you ever watch like Nick Jr. or like Nickelodeon when you were a kid and they did like the green goo that dropped from the s like the sliming? I was like I just wanted to have a picture of someone being slimed and just post that, like no context spoiler. 'Cause it's the same color. It's what it looked like. We're going deep in the nineties here.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm-hmm. The sliming. Mm-hmm.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): It's gross. the plan to like lure out Broodverine was fucking amazing. I was I was laughing so hard, like with the I'm I'm gonna call it Morph Clops. Because like it was so perfect Like Yes, yes, like
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Ha ha ha.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): More.
PunkerDuckie: B broodvareen and morph clops now. This is
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): The the animation on it was so good because like you're it's literally it's it's a character pretending to be a different character. Yeah, so it's like the mannerisms were so perfect. You can tell exactly like that's Morph being Cyclops. like the voice acting in it, because I'm assuming that that was Ray Chase doing
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): the walking. Mm-mm. Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: That was that was absolutely Rage haste, yes. Of him of himself, yes. That's gotta be weird.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Doing doing a morph impression of a Cyclops impression. Yes. Like just it was so it was it was fucking stellar. I I loved it. I and I I love the fact that the plan was just to rage bait broodering into coming out. Like
PunkerDuckie: Yes. Well, that is how you get Wolverine to do most things is rave bait. He's the best at what he does and what he does is getting pissed off all the fucking time. the like the fucking prancing and like the self hugging, like, ooh, I'm gonna give Jane like extra kisses tonight like I was like
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Very broody.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): I see it.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Extra spooches.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): But the face as well when he realises he's behind him. He's like,
PunkerDuckie: Yeah. I may have taken so many screenshots of that to use for evil, like you guys don't even know what's coming. I am so the Cyc the Cyclops is Waiting For Me podcast is going to hate me with the amount of stuff that I'm going to make and tag them in. If you guys haven't listened to that, that's that's a friend of ours has Cyclops is waiting for me. He's very Cyclops focused, and I like to shit on Cyclops constantly, and I'm just the bane of his existence. I don't know how we're friends. But I have so much ammunition, Docus.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Ha ha!
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Nice. You
PunkerDuckie: I'm gonna so use all of it out of context to make psychopsic like a little bitch 'cause that's what like to do.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Beautiful.
PunkerDuckie: So thank you animators for that. They're feeding me well with the meme panels this year. So many things that I can exploit.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Okay, so I was, however, going back to the the storyline here I was a bit shocked that they killed off Maverick like that. Like I mean at least he didn't get like final destination like Kane did, but it was just like that's fucking gnarly and brutal and not what I was anticipating. But I guess like they had to show that like Brood Verein was different ish than regular Wolverine with his level of give a fuck. I don't know. It was gnarly though.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm. That's true. It's still pretty gnarly. Was he?
PunkerDuckie: is a little bit worse marginally. Still apparently easily manipulated by by Jean Gray, so take that for what it's worth.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yes. No, hang on, we're not there
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mmm.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): yet. We're not there yet. Yeah. I this cause this around here is when I kind of realized I was second guessing the nod to Laura. Specifically, specifically in this case. Like everything else a hundred percent I agree. but this one, I'd noticed that the brood themselves have like two stinger things that look exactly like what was sticking out of the one scientist. So I was like, I'm not a hundred percent convinced if that was an an actual Laura nod or if we were just showing that like the brood were killing everybody. Like cause there's also Cause there's also in there's like a the the panel that has like x-rays and stuff when Dr. Cornelius is monologuing and one of them has the diagram of the brood stinger. That's the other reason because initially I was like, that's Laura's claws and it's like whenever I went back on a rewatch I was like that is very clearly the abdomen of a brood
PunkerDuckie: It's Laura Hush hush you. It's Laura.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): with the stingers sticking out. That's that's definitely not Laura.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: She s still could have gotten out of there. Like she escaped. She's gonna pop up later. Yes, it's happening.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, no, I'm I'm a hundred percent with that. But initially we I I think all of us were like, two bone claws, two bone claws. I'm like, wait, I don't know if those are bone claws anymore. I was very confident initially, and now I'm like, mmm, that one might not be one. The other one's yes, the other one's yes.
PunkerDuckie: It's like rocking in my chair. Something still clawed its way out. I was trying to get out. It's probably the It's probably the brood, but let me have my my little
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yes, I'm a green No No I'm not
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): a green anymore. Back that up. Nope, it's it's it's Laura. Yeah. and then I think we need to take this opportunity to pour one out for the more verine s shippers, 'cause this was brutal to watch. Like
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Morph was laying out their like Hail Mary speech, like trying to reach Wolverine, like, hey, like I'm not gonna give up on you. Like you were the only one that came after me. Like, it is not making a difference at all. And then like gets fucking stabbed, which like we gotta talk about that in a minute, because like does have a healing factor? I was a little confused. felt like walked that off. I mean good, but I was concerned. okay. Should I should I pause for theory?
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Well, I I I have a theory for that, but Pause for theory. Because Morph Morph is has the ability to change their molecular structure, right? To meld into other things. So if if they can make a gun out of an appendage, they can move some cells around to not get punched in anything important. So I don't know that it's necessarily a healing factor and not an avoidant factor, where like
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Pause for theory. Go. Sure. Yeah. Okay.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I I could see that.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah, it still happened, but I feel like they could have made like a little hole for the claws to go through or at least kind of like isolated that. So Well, 'cause they're like the the uniform after wasn't even
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, 'cause yeah, 'cause like mm-hmm.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah, or could they covered it?
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Right, yeah, 'cause initially like you there's there's blood coming down, like initially. And then as soon as morph shifts into like Jean and then back to themselves, like it's gone. So interesting. But like but it's clearly still like hurting them later. So I'm kinda yeah, it's like so s some something. I don't know, yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mm.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah. There w there was something that made it not as critical of an inch. Also it was kinda like upper shoulder, so there's nothing really important. I mean it maybe could have could have got a lung, depending on how high up it was. But it was it was on the opposite side of all of the important shit, which is on your left side. So like they went it went for Yeah, it's that's an optimal place if you're going to get stabbed. There's no major I will die organs up in this particular area. Like I said, you might de might deflate a lung, but
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. If you're gonna get stabbed.
PunkerDuckie: realistically speaking. The heart and the things that get weird when you punch holes in them are over and lower. So that's a good spot to get shanked if you're gonna get shanked, I guess.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Plus I think the pain of realization hurt more.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Ooh, that's true. Yeah. And like the fact that Mor Yeah, like Morv had to shift into Gene to get through to him. Like that fuck me, that was brutal.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah, I think most of that was emotional damage there.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): But was at that point, yeah. That's funny. Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: That that was like absolutely diabolically heart wrenching dialogue. Like like there's just no Yeah, there there's no like sugarcoating that. There is no anything like that. Like it was just like whoo damn that hurt.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Like I'd I w I want to go wrap them up in a little blanket.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: I also think that a lot of people I think watching this episode can relate to that feeling. Like, not necessarily the being stabbed by the person they're in love with, but like realizing that the person that they want realizing the person that they want will never want them back at like that level or would rather have somebody else. Like I don't know a single person that hasn't had that something similar to that happen to them in their own lives. Like I think that that particular storyline is going to resonate with a lot of people.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm. Sure, some people can't.
PunkerDuckie: and like we weren't expecting it and I think that kind of makes it well because you can't really prepare for like you know like yeah like Wolverine's bad, like he obviously he's he's been taken over by the brood and bad things are happening. But like you don't expect that deep of a character moment between Morph and Wolverine and then just to have that laid out like that and then just the emotional level it like so it's it's the interaction is hitting people on the fuck, I feel bad for Morph, and then it's also hitting people on the fuck. Like that's happened to me. And it's when you start relating to those characters that makes everything so much more visceral, I guess.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): And I think what makes it more heart wrenching is as well, is Logan's pretty much doing the same. He's looking forward another unrequited love that he can't have. And it's literally other people looking at, you know, it's just like he's unattainable because of the exact same thing. It's, you know, it's...
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah. Yep.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Layers.
PunkerDuckie: Mm-hmm. Fucking emotional. Like they're the show is absolutely killing it with the emotional beats. I know there's some people that are watching it that are less media literate and they don't seem to understand what's happening. They're just like there was somebody bitching on Twitter that this was a whole like Wolverine focused episode. Like, it wasn't. This was a morph episode. This was definitely a thousand percent
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): No. 100%.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): This was a morph episode disguised as a Wolverine episode.
PunkerDuckie: a morph episode. Like it was all
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): and you've seen.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Morph's character development. It was all morph kind of driving the plot and changing the way things were happening. kind of the one pulling the strings, like, No, we have to go back for Wolverine. We can't leave him here like
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm.
PunkerDuckie: It was not a Wolverine show, so fuck you people on Twitter, first of all, that thought it was. Watch the show. Like, take a moment. Actually listen. Don't just look at the fucking action scenes. Like, listen to the dialogue. Listen to the characters speaking. Like, this is I'm gonna go back to season one with my rant with this. Because the same shit happened in season one with like the Rogue Magneto thing. Where she was like
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Some things are deeper than skin, like this isn't what I want, and they left. And everybody was like, No, clearly she still has it up. I'm like, no, she made her point. Like, this isn't what I want. I'm sorry, goodbye. And then she made her choice and left. Granted, it was a little late of a choice, but if you actually listen to the audio and like to what the actors are saying. That interaction is completely different than if you just watch it. So if you just watch it, you just see them dancing and you just see like the kiss and then you're like, well. And there's some people that were like, well, Gambit watched them kiss. Gambit was fucking gone. Like he was gone well before that moment. So he didn't see. Yeah, the second they they kind of met, he's like, peace out, I'm leaving. So the the fact that people A thought he was still there to watch that and B don't realize what she is saying still pisses me off. Like
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah. Yeah. As soon as the hands were nearby, it's like, I'm gone. I'm out. Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm-hmm.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): No, but she looks to the side before she kisses him and I'm convinced that is to see if he's still there. Honestly, there's a slight glance to the side and I'm convinced it's because she double checks that he wasn't there.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): She is escaping with her eyes.
PunkerDuckie: Shit. To make sure that he's not there. But like it's it's shit like that where like if you actually pay attention to what the characters are saying and not just the just watch it. There's a whole different level. And I think that people that just watched this for Wolverine are missing that that emotional level that they're building in here and the the writing is fucking phenomenal. Like honestly. I d I have zero it's the pacing yeah, the pacing is a little fast, yeah, but the pacing has been fast. That's it's it's something we should kinda be used to by now.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, seriously. Like, are we watching the same show? Yeah, the pacing has been fast.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): It's an emotional maturity. You have to have a, you know, complex emotions do happen. You have to be an adult to understand that.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): No. I like I I think that's also it's it's kind of a double edged sword with like characters that have depth to them. Because I think that there's a lot of push, especially nowadays, for I don't wanna say younger audiences 'cause that sounds like derogatory, but where like a character is not allowed to make a bad decision. They're not allowed to like do something bad because then like you can't like the character. They did something bad once. Like there's there's no opportunity for proper character growth. You know what I mean? Like they have to mess up. They have to make bad decisions
PunkerDuckie: Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): So that they can learn from them and grow. Like if you have somebody that is just purely good all the time, like that's boring. And that's not realistic. Yeah. Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah. Yeah. No one can connect.
PunkerDuckie: That's Scott Summers. Fuck that. Until Until the whole Gene Maddie thing. But mostly Scott Summers. No, I I pffh I have a tangent. And try to try to rate it in. So I I think that a lot of the people that have issues with the characters doing bad things now. Like Obviously X-Men operates a lot in the gray. Like the they world wants them to be black and white. They want this good or bad. But most of the X-Men i all of their drama is in that middle part there. And it's important to all of their characters to have that middle part. Like it's like you were saying, like there's no perfectly good or perfectly bad, like X-Men. They're they all have little bits and they all operate in that gray area.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm.
PunkerDuckie: I'm wondering when we do get Deathbit, if there 'cause you know he's gonna do bad shit. Like you know, like Deathbit as a character in the comics was not good there for the first little bit. Like like he he did very bad shit. Terrible awful things. And I'm wondering Yeah, he nearly killed Rogue. He actually did kill a couple people. Like he's not he was not good. Like he was not wholly himself, but he was not good.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): D no no he did very bad things, terrible things. Yeah. Especially to Rogue. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. No. He was still hot though. But yes. Terrible. Terrible man.
PunkerDuckie: He absolutely leather daddy what? Terrible bad should definitely not be attracted to that at all whatsoever. Your fucking voice is is a bad man. Anyway, no, I'm wondering if s if if the new audience that is coming into this, especially the people that do not allow their characters to be bad.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Just a bad man.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You two are so unconvincing.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: If they're going to then turn their back on the character because he's gonna do some bad shit. Like, brace yourselves, guys. We know it's fucking coming. He's not gonna come back and like Sunshine and Roses and go immediately back to being the gambit we know and love. Like, there has to be bad shit to get to the good shit.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Sorry, Bonnie.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): I've just realised something.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm. No, we can't shut up?
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): I think just going back to that Wolverine and morph scene that's going to play out again between two different characters and see how that goes through that's why they've done it and like sort of thing and seeing how that works with not being the right connection do you get where I'm do you get do you get where I'm up to about him trying to bring him back
PunkerDuckie: Damn it, buddy!
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Yes, sorry, I was n I Yes, I was not picking up what you were putting down initially and I was like, but why would they still be having the unrequited love? Like, why would they have a speech like that?
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): I feel that exact sort of, that's gonna play out.
PunkerDuckie: No, it's it's gonna be the I'm I'm bad and I'm not worthy of love shit. Like Wolverines.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): But yeah, it's gonna be
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): that trying to connect to that person to bring them back. reckon it's that just when I was thinking about it then that's literally gonna play out again.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Okay, I got you.
PunkerDuckie: 'Cause you got the double entendre though. You have like the the like you remember who you are, like that kind of shit, and then you have the person that doesn't believe they're redeemable. Cause like Wolverine at this point does not believe that when Morph is telling him things, like you're not bad, you're not bad. Wolverine's just like, nah, fucking I'm bad. And Gambit goes the same thing, and he still even to this day does the same shit in the comics where it's like, no, I'm just I'm not I'm not a good person. I'm good for you, but I'm not a good person. Like, but
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Credo bar.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I have another thought. I'm so sorry, Bonnie, we're keeping you up. but yes. So I'ma I'm gonna take that one more level. because I I would be shocked if they try to do if they try to bring in the Antarctica arc. Because at this point, like it would be f five thousand steps backwards, right?
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): No, it's alright.
PunkerDuckie: No she's do you see how diabolical her fucking face looks right now? She's into this. This is her moment.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): I knew.
PunkerDuckie: No God. Fonnie's like please don't hurt me. Yes.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): So at this point, and because it had not been revealed by the time that animated series wrapped, they have not brought up the Morlock Massacre or that giant heaping pile of guilt that Gambit's been lugging around. So I'm wondering if to kind of substitute that, they could use whatever actions that he's gonna do as deathbit and
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): for that.
PunkerDuckie: That was exactly what I was like. They you know that they're gonna bring it hard. They're gonna make him do some terrible things.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Hmm.
PunkerDuckie: And also, he already kinda has that self-doubt, like we've heard that in season one. I know. I know, we're gonna always go back to Gambit guys. Sorry, this is just how we how we fucking deal with shit. but like in season one where he was just like, the team doesn't need me. Like, I'm just gonna stay here and make beignets, like he already kind of feels like that he's not a part of the team. He's having some self doubt, like the like the line to Nightcrawler I don't deserve the white picket reward kind of shit, like
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Okay.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Well Yeah, and the the the the Mm-hmm.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah. Too busy singing.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): there's the two busy cinnamon line, but then there's also like when Maddie's doing the like, here's your worst nightmare and it's Rogue and Magneto, like Savage Land version, like i but and Rogue's like her words to him are something on the lines of l on the lines of like, I found a real like does it say hero or man? I can't remember.
PunkerDuckie: I think it was a real hero or something like that.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, I think
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): it was a real hero. Yeah, so it's like, we are really like tugging on that guilt string there 'cause like he really does not ever think that he's good enough. Like, no matter what he does. Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah. Still doesn't. Still
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mm.
PunkerDuckie: doesn't. Fucking forty years of comics later and he's still just like But maybe I'm a piece of shit. You're like, Dude Like come
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Stop it.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): But yet he's totally cool with like the at the the end of the the rogue mini that just came out. Like he's assuring her using the same wording and the same justification that everyone else has been telling him but he doesn't believe about himself. He's like, look, we are heroes. We do what we do to make up for like the shitty stuff that we've done. So we can only do so much.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mm-hmm.
PunkerDuckie: See, but I feel like we do that like to a certain amount like people do that anyway. Like when my friends are having a crisis, I'm like, no, you're perfect, you're beautiful. I suck, but you're perfect and amazing and beautiful and everything you do is fine.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yes. Yeah, you're really annoying about that, by the way, Meg.
PunkerDuckie: I think that's why I resonate so much with that fucking character, is because deep down like I kinda suck too, so like I feel like I understand where he's coming from. But it's a common it's a common thing. Go ahead.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): He does say it as well, sorry, he does say that as well in the, you know how we had the X-Men 97 comic before, not the season 2 one, the kind of prelude one, he says there's a bit in that as well where she's trying to control the power she's taking and it's like my rogue, she's a bona fide hero sort of thing and he does that sort of, same sort of speech to her.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm. Yep.
PunkerDuckie: Yep. Never sees himself. Gambit's number one worst enemy is his own self deprecation. Like he just it that's it. It's hit it's himself. He doesn't it's not any of the actual villains in this it's not Mr. Sinister. It's it's his brain and his self doubt and how much he deep down just is not happy with himself, no matter how happy his life is, which is sucky but I think relatable to a lot of people. Alright.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: That got depressing. Let's Well, we got into emotional stuff and then now we got Omega R Now we got Omega Red Pop again.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Where were we? My god, we went all f on like five tangents. Yeah. Ha ha Omega Red wins
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): We ran with it.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): the worst timing award. That's the next story we're on.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah, that's absolutely. Also A the timing was less than optimal. B, everybody's like, How did Wolverine beat his ass and kill him? Like he didn't kill him, first of all. He just pissed him off really bad and that I don't think he's dead. Like that the building fell on him. That fucker's gonna pop back up later. No, he can't. I think he's that's part of his comic lore there is that he just never he's already kind of dead. So
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Hehehehehe No, the the column killed. The building. No. Well I don't th can he actually die? Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): No. He's already kind of dead,
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. He's got his death tentacles.
PunkerDuckie: tilted sex tape. he's not
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Death Death tentacles.
PunkerDuckie: Every time you bring up tentacles there's the pineapple. Every time you bring up tentacles, I'm gonna go for that. You should know this by now. no and that like he's he's not killable, but he is capable of getting really, really fucking mad. So I feel like he's gonna come back later and be like, You threw a fucking column on me. I'm gonna beat your ass. But it it did, comrade, yes. Beat your ass, comrade. But it did give them a moment to get the fuck out, so I guess that we can we can appreciate that. Like
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Comrade.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah, you know he's not dead, but he's definitely pissed.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): No. Yeah. Yeah. So I think my overall thoughts on this were the character development on this episode was insanely good for what I thought was just gonna be a filler. like Wolverine absolutely got people killed by not telling them what he was doing, and he he really doesn't face consequences for for it. Like, not not real ones, like morph
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: Slash kill people.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Talks to him afterwards and the my like the the weight behind doesn't that make you sad? And then just the pause and the it makes me sad. I was like, fuck. Like that is oof. That that's that's like all the disappointment that your parents put into the like, I'm I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed, like amplified by a thousand. My god. Like, oof, phooah. I don't I don't I don't think I can come back from that.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: It's worse. Yes.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): But yeah, like and then I think the morph kind of came to terms a bit there with that like Logan is literally never going to see them as long as Gene is around. Like they literally had to turn into Gene for Logan to focus up. So like they cannot just present as themselves and be seen the way that they want to be. And that's so fucking depressing.
PunkerDuckie: Kill Jean. I'm just kidding.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): And like Eurico's got this like big sister almost relationship by the end of it with Morph, which is like kind of really endearing. I yeah. So like I I went in with some low expectations, but I did come out like pretty delighted, minus the Bird Goo. Yes.
PunkerDuckie: The brood goo. So I ha I have more tangents that I didn't add into yours, so no it's it's not bad. So just the whole like how they had to like trick Wolverine into like thinking that was Gene for him to be like, hey, what the hell and like confuse him enough to get him back in the chamber to get his animantia back and get the brood fucking out of him, okay? I saw a parallel with that.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): boy. joy.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: And that parallel is it's gonna be again Gambit specific. But when Gambit was talking to Rogue in the the first mini, their first solo together, the 2018, and Rogue was telling Gambit that like she didn't like how their first interactions as like being attracted to one another were under the influence of mind control.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm-hmm. Okay.
PunkerDuckie: And then Gambit saw from the perspective that mind control is only broken by her because of how much he loves her. So, like, that's the only thing that could break him out of mind control. And it's the same thing with Wolverine. The only thing that can break him out of this, like, feral stage with the brood is the person that he loves, which is not Morph, which is Gene. And I was like. That's a really depressing like I made that connection. I like, that hurt me. Why would I do that to myself? But it's and then to know at least in like in Rogan Gambit's eventualness, like it works out for them and they are get to be happy together. But to know that like in the gene, the Wolverine thing never canonically works out is and again, and it potentially never will, is just like it adds a level of hurt there, which explains kind of
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Never will.
PunkerDuckie: too why Wolverine is so like fucking depressed later on and just like, well this is all I I'm never gonna get what I love. I ne I'm never gonna be not a monster, like fucking self-doubt and horrible depression that he has. Like obviously you can tell from his face like sitting in the helicopter there at the end that like He Yeah, it kinda was in this episode too. He kinda was a piece of shit. But that is what Wolverine in the movies
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Maybe I am a piece of shit. Yeah. Yes.
PunkerDuckie: I think they they were like, look, I see he's like he's the hero and he's positive like no, he's got a lot of bad fucking shit. Like, yeah, he's a hero, but he's got a lot of baggage and he's not a perfect character. And the people that hype him up to be this like perfect, amazing character
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mm-mm.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: maybe got to eat a little bit of crow watching this episode and realizing that he's kinda not. He's kind of a dick. And especially after what he did to Morph, like 'cause there's no way he doesn't know how Morph feels about him. Like, it's it's been apparent, if you're not blind or stupid.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: But just to know that he hurt someone that his is his friend on that level and just to see him be like kind of unbothered by it a little bit. Like was like, well, it just causes my p it's he's not upset because he hurt Morph. He's upset because he's self reflecting on him being a piece of shit. You know what I mean? So just meh. This h this whole episode gave me so many fucking feels. And I like I gotta say, like, watching it, like when we first came into it, I was
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mm.
PunkerDuckie: hundred percent like this is just gonna be a Wolverine show. Like I d the based on the the name alone and then like it wasn't. And the focus again was very much on Morph and was on Yuriko and Sabretooth and like that kind of team, except for the two that they merked.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm-hmm.
PunkerDuckie: But I like that it did show at least Wolverine having some kind of self-reflection. I doubt anything will ever come from that moment of self-reflection. Like, Morph will probably, like, develop and and move on and be better for it. But I don't think that the acts of what happened right now are going to fundamentally change anything about Wolverine as a character. I think he's just gotta kinda keep doing what he's been doing. And maybe, maybe here's my crackhead theory, if it gives him pause.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mm.
PunkerDuckie: When we get like Laura, when she comes, this is me being delusional. When Laura comes, maybe he will reflect on that and he'll be like, Hey, maybe I shouldn't be a piece of shit and maybe I should actually be a good parent to this to X twenty three. I doubt it. I think we'll maybe we'll get like a maybe we'll get post death bit gambit on his fucking redemption arc where he has post weapon X Laura and then they get to bond over that and do like the that'd be cute. Like they could bond over that. Yep. The setup is there. Just saying.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, doubt. That'd be cute. That'd be cute. I'd be here for that. Mm-hmm.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): He
PunkerDuckie: This is just me being delusional and pulling things out of my ass, but I can see that. But like I'm I'm hoping like I'm hoping that they use Wolverine and try to make him less shitty to other people. I think they could use X twenty three for that, but realistically, like, he's gonna continue to do that. Like, it's better off that X twenty three goes with somebody else that can relate to her better. Vonnie, what do you what do you got?
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. I agree.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): pretty much the same, just that, hopefully more that they, they, they realize now and just do them basically. Cause again, I like the fact that they used more for this as well about trying to change for the one you love as well. And literally changing into another person is, is, is not the right way about it. And if they can't accept you for who you are. then so I thought that was a really nice sort of again sort of visual sort of thing with the way obviously the mutant powers it kind of does reflect into real life a bit about not changing yourself just to sort of seen when you shouldn't have to sort of thing so again going to going very deep but like this whole episode was yeah like this yeah with horror thrown in roundabout but yeah it was a great balance
PunkerDuckie: Damn, buddy.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): This was a very deep episode.
PunkerDuckie: It was Yeah. But you have to watch and listen
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yes.
PunkerDuckie: to her to get the that's what's going on. Sorry.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah, so yeah, felt for more for that entire episode.
PunkerDuckie: Right? Again, last episode I felt bad for Charles. Like that's how good the writing is. It made me actually give a shit about Charles Xavier's emotional state and not just telling him to fuck off and go back to space with this bird bitch. But The shit in here is so heavy. Like ever Like visuals are heavy, the writing is heavy, like I know we all came into this like woohoo nostalgia, and they were coming out like, depression. Like it's just so
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mm.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): It's just that millennial experience.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): This
PunkerDuckie: Yeah, basically.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah, pretty much. Has every episode now just been about relationships when you think about it?
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Aren't they all
PunkerDuckie: This is why I'm I'm scared but also really excited to see where this deathbed thing goes. I'm nervous.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): I'm scared now because they're all about relationships, aren't they?
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Can't get worse. He's dead.
PunkerDuckie: He's already dead. Can't get any debtor.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Unicorns and rainbows, unicorns and rainbows.
PunkerDuckie: Alright, so theories theories for the next episode. the next episode we have coming up here is Danger EXE. We're gonna bring Danger the sentient Danger Room robot alien? I'm not entirely certain what she is. They're coming. It was like Shiar technology with morphed with the danger room programming and became such a yeah. So kinda alien.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Oof. Isn't it like she are technology that kinda like became sentient? Right, right, right, right, right. Yeah, 'cause they were like, bring the brain in the Shiar technology with this like the holograms are now you can like hit them and they can hit back. What could possibly go wrong? And then she becomes like corporeal, basically.
PunkerDuckie: They can get real mad about it.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): yeah, I think I don't know what major plot theories I've got outside of like the mansion's kind of fucked right now. so I think that we're gonna have a good amount of focus on like, hey, the teams that are back in the present, because they should all be back now. Ex Except for Magneto.
PunkerDuckie: Little bit. Except for bad meatle.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): so yeah, so I think that my main thing is gonna be that all the teams should be back in the present. So we're gonna have a kind of like, all right, we gotta we gotta tie these threads together of like, hey, you've been in the future, and like future apocalypse is a dick. cool, we came from the past. Past apocalypse is also a dick. What are we gonna do about it? so I think that that's gonna be kind of the main like establishment of what do we do now? How do we make our next move? hey, let's fix the mansion. And I think that it's gonna be like, okay, let's get the ding. Danger room back up and running and in restoring that and maybe adapting some of the Shiar technology, maybe. That's how we kind of speed run through it and it's like, shit, we brought the danger room back online and now it's sentient.
PunkerDuckie: Maybe.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
PunkerDuckie: See, danger has a lot to do with like Rogue and her Australia Arc.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm.
PunkerDuckie: Which is like a journey of self discovery and eventually kind of getting control of her powers. And I'm wondering how they're going to how they're gonna try to they might pull from that a little bit.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Fuck, do we have time for that? Yeah, 'cause that takes a minute. That one takes a minute.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah. They might they might pull from that to kinda give her her interactions here with Gambit a little bit more
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Okay, okay.
PunkerDuckie: It's hard to say if it 'cause 'cause like they were good they were in a good place at the end of that, and Gambit was r s kind of him and Charles were kind of responsible for helping break her brogue a away from the whole danger scenario. so I'm wondering if like it not necessarily comes into play now but it might come into play later where like it could be like a reverse save thing where like she saves the Gambit from being deathbit and then he has to turn around and save her from danger. But I don't know what they're going to do with danger. There's there's just a lot there's a lot of things they could do. It would be interesting to see them adapt that somehow. I don't think we have enough time for it. I think they're still working with apocalypse and shit, but
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Mm.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm. think from the trailers that like Gene and Scott were fighting danger. So I don't think that she's gonna be like a good guy, at least not straight out the gate, you know what I mean?
PunkerDuckie: Yeah. So if they keep her bad and then let her go into season three, there's we could do some of that Australia Outback era. Second Outback era. Second Outback? Seven We're back to the Outback. Fucking timelines. Back to the Outback. Yes. Also I I don't think we're done with the brood. That's my other I know, I know, I know that.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Back to the outback.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): out back number two.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Back out back. I hate that. I hate that theory. Can we can we please light that theory on fire? I would love to be done with the brood.
PunkerDuckie: Because I swear I swear that I thought that maybe maybe there's just the way they edited that video that looked like one of the brood was outside. It didn't look like they were it may just be me hallucinating things though, but I was like, well maybe. Maybe they were outside and maybe they're in Louisiana and maybe that's just because I really want the brood art to happen down there for the angst.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I think it's hallucinating.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Nope. They all got vaporized. The end. No more brood.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): No,
PunkerDuckie: They got loose. I'm just saying
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): unicorns and rainbows.
PunkerDuckie: there's loose brood running around, creating chaos, putting brood goo everywhere.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): No.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): No.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): No. Nope. Thank you, Vonnie.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): They all got banned.
PunkerDuckie: But you have like we have two brood Brood got burned.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): It got burned.
PunkerDuckie: god. Bird got burnt Like that's the same. Just like hearing her in my head with like a really for some reason deep southern white trash accent that's happening. Like Bird got burnt. Bird got burnt. Bird got burnt.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Beautiful, beautiful. Bruga barn.
PunkerDuckie: But I I really like I think we have some potential here for for other big bats other than Apoc obviously apocalypse is our big big bad. But like having danger loose running around, potentially having brood loose. Potentially like Morph also was interacting with the brood? Like
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm-hmm. Yeah, they had a little little mind meld situation. Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Thank you Clay.
PunkerDuckie: They had. So, like, maybe their brood slipped out somewhere else. I'm just saying. Like, there's potential there. I don't think we've seen the last of brood though. They're way too fucking obnoxious to for this to be that they're done.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Don't like it.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): They do.
PunkerDuckie: As you shouldn't. Bonnie, do you have any theories for next time?
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): No, just that, as you say, I think they're all back. Bar Magneto. And we're, I think we're going to, cause it's going to be weird to see X-Force and X-Factor as well sort of come in with X-Men now sort of thing and how that dynamic is going to work with the fact that you've got the three teams almost and yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Rip.
PunkerDuckie: Rip.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): a lot. I'm already mixing up I'm already mixing up X Force and X Factor. I can't keep them straight. I keep I keep calling them it like each one the raw name. Like I'm I'm gonna struggle.
PunkerDuckie: And two of them have a summers on them. The only I you how I keep them straight in my head, it's the dumbest thing. So like the X X Factor nudes I just like the X Factor is a knockoff cyclops. I don't know why I remember that, but I'm like so that's the one with havoc in it. Like it's just it cause it's like it feels like yeah, because I feel like like all of like the the shows where they use like the whatever, like factor like it's always like
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Hm please tell me huh. Yeah. Okay, so that that's the only way you remember it?
PunkerDuckie: like a reality TV kind of shitty something version. And I feel like Havoc is the reality TV shitty version of Cyclops. So it kinda helps me. Like there's a c it's it's a weird connection, but that's how my brain fucking makes it. Thank you, ADHD. Yeah. And then the other one's just like, it's got cable. Yeah. Like there was something there was some show that was like a Yeah, and it was a reality show. Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): But it's like the show. Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, yeah. Okay Okay. Yeah. No that works. That works.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): No, it's the same because there was a show. There was a show X Factor. It was the X Factor. Yeah, it
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): was a singing sort of pop starry type. And I see them as kind of like the wannabe pop stars. So yeah, that's it.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Yeah, he's a fucking wannabe cyclops. See? It it tracks. My brain made a connection there. Yeah, it's a terrible connection. You're welcome for those of you that it helps or didn't help, but it's there. I another tangent before we before we disconnect for the day. Now we have so we have Polaris. We have danger, theoretically, and we have Gambit. So they have the ability to do all new X Factor at some point. And if they do that, I would just if they're not sissies.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Okay, alright. I might need to adopt that. Yeah, it's a terrible thing. Yeah. dear. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. All new X factor.
PunkerDuckie: They have to do the Warlock storyline. If you haven't read that If you have not read that, go read all new X Factor. It's it's newer. But please read it. It's great. Gambit gets thrown onto a plane naked.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): I love the warlock storyline. we haven't had Quicksilver yet, though.
PunkerDuckie: We we have. Kind of. 'Cause he quicksil not ninety seven well we had him in the original the original animated Quicksilver was there. But he was still he's he's in universe, theoretically. So you have like most of the team. We just don't have the cats yet. But all new all new X Factor there is a a scene between Danger trying to become more human-ish.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Moth.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, not not actual Quicksilver. We've had morph not given the original Yes. Yeah, in like one episode. but yeah. Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Well, it was a vision as well.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): We do need the cats.
PunkerDuckie: And work through some human emotions, one of which is horny. And heard Warlock have a moment and it is the funniest fucking comic panel you will ever see. I'm just putting that up. Go read it. Do yourself a favor. I was so sad when that round got cancelled, there was some fucking gold in it. But this is me like, we can get outback. Ooh, we can get the robot banging scene. Like that's where my brain video comes. So
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Which is amazing. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): No.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. I also like in that like Gambit really gets the short end of the stick in that series though. Dear God.
PunkerDuckie: He absolutely does. He absolutely does. And then he like kisses Polaris and she smacks him in the face. There's a lot of drama. Which I think was Yeah.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): He accidentally sleeps with his boss's wife. He doesn't know that it's his boss's wife. And then his boss is like, well fuck you. You can get like kidnapped by whatever I forgot what the main villain was in there, but I I I just remember that like this literally like Gambit getting abducted by the villain and he's fucking naked.
PunkerDuckie: I forgot to. I just get thrown up a plane naked, that's all I remember. Well he has a trench coat, to be fair. But
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): No.
PunkerDuckie: it's basically naked in a trench coat. Don't worry guys, him and Rogue were not together at this point. So he was he was allowed to It was funny though. It was so funny.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm. Don't worry, guys, we're the rover on your No, no, no, no, no.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): That's why I don't like it. No.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): So I okay, like I I l I love them as like, yes, they are they are the they are destined and all that, but like I can I can back the like side quests on the bits where they're they're not together. They're clearly not together. Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Let him have a hoe face. Let him have a hoe face.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): No, I can't do it. Can't do it. unicorns and rainbows and togetherness.
PunkerDuckie: Alright. Delusional. You're delusional. We need to let you go to bed. Well that I think that wraps up the spoiler zone for today. we went a little long, but you know, there's a lot of unrelated shit we had to cram into here just in case it becomes relevant, so
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Well, plus as the Gambit Spotting podcast, even though there is literally not a fucking shred of the man in this episode, we had to tangent like a solid half hour.
PunkerDuckie: We have to But we can pull crumbs where he might come back later. It's fine. They're relevant crumbs to him. Brood is relevant to him. Danger is relevant to him.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Mm-hmm.
PunkerDuckie: Rogue Rogue's emotional trauma with danger is relevant to him. Rogue who's not even in here, but she interacts with danger who's potentially coming in the next I'm just string fucking string bored.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Listen, it focuses on the X Men. He's part of that team, so
PunkerDuckie: Yes, so we could bring him up all the time, no matter what. Sorry, guys. You should be used to this by now. You're you're you've been here long enough. Except for the new people that found us 'cause of X-Men ninety seven. If you have found us through X-Men ninety seven, please follow the Game But Spotting Podcast. Started episode one of our regular podcast. We are doing all of the character bits you need to know, and then we deep dive into every single one of the comics he's ever been in, starting with the nineties. So go to our
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah, good luck. Plus you can watch Gumbo grow up into a cat.
PunkerDuckie: You can. You could see the obnoxious cat that she keeps spraying with a spray bottle, start as a very tiny kitten. And now
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): You
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Actually I've been spraying Loki. Loki's being an asshole tonight. Yeah.
PunkerDuckie: Okay, that tracks too. I don't think Gumbo would know if you scored him anyway, he can't really see. He'd just be like, What is this coming from? god, no.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): He just sits there and takes it.
PunkerDuckie: Cat's a little bit of mascist. He is named he is kind of named after Gambit, I'm just saying. Like that does track. Alright, so the next episode we're gonna get into Danger EXE. I'm excited for that. I hope you guys are too. And then after that, another daddy death bit, maybe. It's gotta be coming. I they have to give us a crumb. Give us a crumb in the next episode. Because s some people are losing interest. Not me, because I'm obsessive. But yeah. It's coming.
Liv (call_in_the_spirits): Yeah. Hey attracts Yeah Yeah Yeah. God, I hope so, please. I need it. We are going to start going insane. I'm already there.
PunkerDuckie: So speaking of insanity, we'll see you guys next time. Bye-bye.
Marvel Millennial (Vonnie): Bye.
