speaker-1: I have a lot of family members who have disabilities and I want to be able to help them as much as I help my own family.
speaker-0: Great. A lot of our students have family members or have worked with or been around individuals with disabilities and it's a great opportunity to learn more skills. Ashlyn, how about you?
speaker-2: kind of like the same thing that Maya said I have family members that are disabled but also have disabilities so I'm kind of used to working around there and that's
speaker-0: Absolut absolutely. That's that's one way that we get people get drawn into the field and we're so happy that you are DSPU students. Now they have finished their modules. So I just wanted to talk a little bit about what was the best part about the modules, Maya, or what did you learn?
speaker-1: Being able to learn more about the things that my family goes through and now I understand better to help them and other people.
speaker-0: Absolutely great, thank you, and Ashlyn.
speaker-2: learning about like the disabilities that other people have and how it impacts their lives, like everyday lives.
speaker-0: Yes, ab absolutely, all good stuff. And today when we did our kickoff we talked a lot about the internship program and just to remind folks that the internship is the second part of DSPU and that's where they take the modules that they they learned and they apply that at their internship site, which could be a variety of sites that serve people who have developmental and intellectual disabilities. They haven't picked their sites yet, so I just wanna ask them what they were most forward looking to about getting to your internship site.
speaker-1: I'm looking most forward into getting to know everybody and knowing how I can help them specifically for them.
speaker-0: Great. How about you, Ashley? I think you were working with a young y a young man. You have experience working with a young man after school. So what kind of stuff did you do with him?
speaker-2: Take him where he needs to go and reassure him when
speaker-0: okay, absolutely. All good things that DSPs do. And we also talked a little bit about the e badge academy. both Maya and Ashlyn are going to take what they learned and how they applied it and then demonstrate that through the e badge academy. And we'll get that set up in a couple of weeks and we can start working on working on getting our badges and our credentials. So I just wanted to thank you guys for For sitting down and chatting with me today. It was so nice to see you again. Thank
speaker-1: Yeah.
speaker-0: you. And I'll be zooming in with them and their other class members, and we'll be working on our badges. So that's it for today's episode of the Dreckline Podcast. So until next time, remember to like, share, subscribe to Lighthouse Cove on your favorite social media site. Thanks. Bye.
