WEBVTT
00:00:00.320 --> 00:00:02.240
Welcome to the Airzap Podcast.
00:00:02.560 --> 00:00:06.719
On this episode, Wednesday afternoon-ish.
00:00:07.599 --> 00:00:16.480
Um and I had ish because by the time uh you hear this, it's gonna be Wednesday night slash Thursday morning.
00:00:16.559 --> 00:00:22.800
Uh but it's Wednesday when I'm hitting record, so that's that's where it counts.
00:00:23.120 --> 00:00:25.760
Uh Christian Worldview Wednesday today.
00:00:26.079 --> 00:00:27.120
Psalm 4.
00:00:28.160 --> 00:00:36.960
We are gonna hit it from the standpoint of what does it mean to to pray to the Lord?
00:00:37.119 --> 00:00:53.280
What does it mean to to come before Him and the joy that the joy that comes from asking God for help, the joy that comes from repentance, and the joy that comes from only God Himself.
00:00:53.600 --> 00:01:01.280
And in the Christian viewpoint, we we find our joy in God.
00:01:02.000 --> 00:01:17.760
God is the source of all joy, God is the source of all goodness, and so our joy is found in God, and because our joy is found in God, the only way to to receive that joy is through repentance.
00:01:17.920 --> 00:01:20.480
And so that's what we'll be hitting at today.
00:01:20.799 --> 00:01:23.920
Um quick World Cup notes.
00:01:24.719 --> 00:01:30.239
Argentina and Spain will play in the World Cup final, 12 p.m.
00:01:30.400 --> 00:01:32.239
Pacific time on Sunday.
00:01:32.400 --> 00:01:38.319
I have church at one, so I won't be watching, and uh, I'm very thankful for that.
00:01:39.359 --> 00:01:51.439
Um and look, France got completely, completely outplayed, outcoached, dominated by Spain.
00:01:51.760 --> 00:01:59.439
Olisa was completely taken out, Dembele just had an awful game, and Mbappe just had nobody with him.
00:01:59.760 --> 00:02:36.960
And Spain was operating the way the old Spurs were operating, where it just it's a unit, and sure, you know, Duncan is the is was the guy, and Parker and Genobli, and you know, they had guys, so it's not like there was a bunch of nobodies, and so Spain it's not like Spain has a bunch of nobodies, they have well known games, but they just would just crush you because they just outplayed you, they did the sl the little things better than you over and over again, and that's what happened versus France.
00:02:37.199 --> 00:02:45.120
That's just what's what happened, and today Argentina versus England, uh, one of the best games of the World Cup.
00:02:45.280 --> 00:02:48.800
Uh the hate just lived up to it just from the get-go.
00:02:48.960 --> 00:03:05.360
You could just no neither team likes each other, and nobody likes Argentina, and uh so you know, just this World Cup for me, ever since Mexico went out, was just rooting for Ronaldo and hopefully he could win it.
00:03:05.520 --> 00:03:15.120
And after that, it's just you know, I'm rooting for whoever plays Argentina, and it hasn't worked out for me, and uh Spain is uh the final hope.
00:03:15.280 --> 00:03:16.159
So we'll see.
00:03:16.319 --> 00:03:19.599
Uh, but Argentina outlasted England.
00:03:20.400 --> 00:03:22.879
This loss is 100% on Tutcho.
00:03:23.360 --> 00:03:23.840
100%.
00:03:24.479 --> 00:03:42.960
It's hard to it's it's rare when you watch a game and you don't you can't pinpoint a player that's to blame, and you can't pinpoint a moment um on the field where you say, Okay, this if this doesn't happen, then whatever.
00:03:43.199 --> 00:03:47.520
And Argentina, with all the controversy of the refs, the ref was fine today.
00:03:47.840 --> 00:03:55.039
There was no um there was nothing, you know, egregious that was called for Argentina.
00:03:55.120 --> 00:03:57.360
I felt like the whistle was fair both ways.
00:03:57.520 --> 00:04:00.639
I I don't think Argentina got away with anything.
00:04:00.879 --> 00:04:07.680
Um now if you're an English fan, I'm sure you you disagree, but you know, but that's fine.
00:04:07.919 --> 00:04:10.639
Um Argentina just out lasted.
00:04:10.800 --> 00:04:13.199
And Argentina had no business winning that game.
00:04:13.360 --> 00:04:15.759
Pickford had had a had an awesome game.
00:04:15.919 --> 00:04:21.839
At the end, I didn't like a lot a lot of his like kickball kicks, just wasn't a fan of them.
00:04:22.240 --> 00:04:30.240
Um Kane had a really good performance on just creating space and moving, and he had the assist.
00:04:32.079 --> 00:04:33.040
I don't know, man.
00:04:33.120 --> 00:04:40.319
I I just I feel like it was one of those games that we're gonna look back and well uh we don't even have to look back.
00:04:40.480 --> 00:04:45.360
Like we we're I'm I'm thinking now a few hours after.
00:04:46.399 --> 00:04:47.600
That was on Tucho.
00:04:49.199 --> 00:04:51.040
That was Tucho 100%.
00:04:51.600 --> 00:04:58.879
You had Spence who had a phenomenal game, Anderson who was amazing in in the midfield.
00:04:59.519 --> 00:05:01.839
Declan Rice could have been better, I guess.
00:05:02.079 --> 00:05:05.519
Reese James was really good, and so you just go down the line.
00:05:05.600 --> 00:05:10.560
Bellingham was controlling the the midfield and and doing good runs, and so was Rogers.
00:05:11.839 --> 00:05:12.800
I don't know, man.
00:05:12.879 --> 00:05:20.399
Uh, you just go around and you just think like, man, you get that one- what the the goal in the 55th minute.
00:05:20.639 --> 00:05:50.240
Argentina's on the ropes, they get sloppy with the ball two, three times, you can't make them pay, and then Tutro just pulls everybody back with like 30 something set 30 something minutes left, and Argentina just begins to camp outside their area, and it was just a matter of time, and I don't understand why you play that way when you have the firepower to come at them.
00:05:50.480 --> 00:05:55.040
I thought Saka should have came in the game, I thought Rashford should have come in the game.
00:05:55.199 --> 00:06:00.720
It's just m Tucho carries this and he should carry this forever.
00:06:00.879 --> 00:06:02.639
This is on Tucho 100%.
00:06:03.759 --> 00:06:04.480
100%.
00:06:05.600 --> 00:06:09.680
On the other side, Messi turned out a really good game at the end.
00:06:09.839 --> 00:06:12.879
He was just playmaking all over the place.
00:06:13.040 --> 00:06:16.000
Argentina just roughed it up from the get-go.
00:06:17.279 --> 00:06:25.680
And it just, you know, Enzo was doing just a lot of dirty plays from the very beginning.
00:06:26.000 --> 00:06:28.399
Martinez, as always, and Romero.
00:06:28.560 --> 00:06:34.240
Yeah, it's just it was just a typical typical Argentina, just rough em up.
00:06:34.720 --> 00:06:38.959
Uh Simeone, I'm you know, I'm surprised that guy didn't get booked.
00:06:39.199 --> 00:06:54.399
And at the end, Enzo, a golaso, just just a golaso in the 85th minute, and in the 92nd minute, um Messi to Lauturo game.
00:06:55.360 --> 00:06:59.600
Argentina lives another day, and they're probably gonna run the World Cup.
00:07:01.199 --> 00:07:02.639
And that's the reality of it.
00:07:02.800 --> 00:07:06.560
So um, yeah, that's where we're at with the World Cup.
00:07:06.639 --> 00:07:10.240
So um, Christian World Review Wednesdays.
00:07:10.480 --> 00:07:11.519
Here we go.
00:07:21.360 --> 00:07:26.639
Christian World Review Wednesdays, um four, where we're at today.
00:07:26.800 --> 00:07:52.959
Uh, and just to get you up to speed as to what we're doing, uh, Christian Worldview Wednesday started because I wanted to get to a place where we're talking about the Christian Worldview stuff, and over the last few years or so, I became just fascinated with um just how things are how everyone has a worldview, whether we think we do or not, that's irrelevant.
00:07:53.040 --> 00:08:16.560
But everybody has a worldview, and it's become increasingly clear that so many Christians and so many people within the church uh don't have a biblical worldview, don't have a Christian worldview, and so I wanted to go through this the scriptures and kind of just pinpoint like this is our view of life because this is what the Bible says, and that's what we're doing.
00:08:16.959 --> 00:08:23.439
And so Psalm 4, we've done the first three Psalms, so you can find out anywhere you listen to your podcast.
00:08:23.680 --> 00:08:37.440
But Psalm 4, we get into a prayer of David, it's uh it's a prayer of like if we can title it, it's probably you know, can you hear me?
00:08:37.679 --> 00:08:40.559
Or um answer.
00:08:40.960 --> 00:08:51.519
Uh, I have you know shout out to my to my boy Kodo who who will who will text answer and that's what I think of when I when I when I was reading this.
00:08:51.840 --> 00:08:57.440
Um it's a psalm of David, and it's it's in three parts.
00:08:57.519 --> 00:09:04.399
And so the point of this psalm, it's it's four themes that we find in this one.
00:09:04.720 --> 00:09:37.840
And it it's the world, it's the point of view that the the Christian receives joy through with God, through God, from God, and the Christian receives that joy through repentance, and that is the the basis of Psalm 4, and the basis of really the the gospel that we receive from God the gift of salvation by repenting, confessing and repenting, right?
00:09:37.919 --> 00:10:01.120
You know, confessing our sins, repenting of our sins, confessing Christ as Lord, and that is where joy comes from, which is different than any other world view where joy may come from money or possessions or people or you know, pleasure, or whatever.
00:10:01.600 --> 00:10:13.200
And in the Bible, the Bible states, and the Bible is very clear, that our joy comes from God, and all good things come from God, because only God is good.
00:10:13.679 --> 00:10:37.120
The goodness of God is just a central teaching to the Bible because the goodness of God teaches us that only He is truly good, and because He is only good and He can own and He's the only one that is truly good, we are then therefore lacking any sense of goodness.
00:10:37.519 --> 00:10:56.879
So, therefore, our need of Him is that much greater because we we are in need, we are in need of salvation, and when we come to the Lord, when we cry out to the Lord, and we repent of our sins, we then therefore get God, and in getting God we get joy.
00:10:57.120 --> 00:11:01.519
And so it's broken down to three into four uh parts.
00:11:01.679 --> 00:11:07.679
Uh the first part is verse one through three, and it is this is the the cry for help.
00:11:07.840 --> 00:11:09.840
This is David crying for help.
00:11:10.080 --> 00:11:19.039
Um, and it goes, and this is from the ESV answer me when I call you, when I call, O God of my righteousness.
00:11:19.200 --> 00:11:22.320
You have given me relief when I was in distress.
00:11:22.559 --> 00:11:25.279
Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
00:11:25.519 --> 00:11:30.320
And so we get from the start just this answer me when I call.
00:11:30.559 --> 00:11:39.039
And it is this pleading, it is this this not even asking, this telling, answer me when I reach out to you, answer me when I call you.
00:11:40.399 --> 00:11:47.519
And then there's an immediate just call, an immediate just understanding.
00:11:47.759 --> 00:11:59.120
You have given me relief, so it's not an answer me because you owe me, or answer me because you have to, it's an answer me because you've given me relief.
00:11:59.279 --> 00:12:08.720
I'm coming to you for relief, and you've given it to me before, so therefore, give me relief again, is what David is saying.
00:12:09.039 --> 00:12:29.200
Um, be gracious to me and hear my prayer, and so this is where we begin to see that this isn't a listen when I call you, it isn't this just demanding, it is I'm coming to you because you've given me relief.
00:12:30.159 --> 00:12:36.559
Now be gracious to me, listen to me, be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
00:12:36.799 --> 00:12:53.039
And so when we think of repentance, when we think of coming to God and and asking God, and it the the the Bible doesn't pin it the way modern Christianity paints it.
00:12:53.279 --> 00:13:03.360
We are I think almost taught and I say almost because I don't think anybody actually says it, but I think everybody does it.
00:13:03.600 --> 00:13:21.440
Um we're almost taught to fill up God with like a bunch of words, and we just say randomness, and we hope that we get the combination of the words correctly so that our prayer can work.
00:13:22.159 --> 00:13:31.519
And we kind of just go out there and we just say things, Lord, you're good, God, you're awesome and full of this, and blah blah blah.
00:13:31.840 --> 00:13:39.200
And we almost feel like if we say enough of those nice words to God, our request will then be heard.
00:13:39.679 --> 00:13:49.919
And in the Bible, we get this very straight, simple, straightforward request from the people that pray to God.
00:13:50.799 --> 00:14:08.879
And it is people that know God, and it is interesting because the more you know someone, the less formal it is, the less you the and the less you know someone, the more formal it is, because you need more formality if you know somebody less.
00:14:09.120 --> 00:14:12.960
But if you know someone, you don't need, hey, what's going on?
00:14:13.120 --> 00:14:14.240
How are you doing?
00:14:14.720 --> 00:14:16.240
Weather's crazy, huh?
00:14:16.559 --> 00:14:18.480
Man, traffic, how's traffic?
00:14:18.639 --> 00:14:22.480
You don't need a lot of that filler stuff, you don't need a lot of that.
00:14:22.720 --> 00:14:24.720
You kind of just cut to the chase.
00:14:24.960 --> 00:14:39.600
When I see my br my my sisters or you know, whoever, my friend or someone I'm close to, uh, when I talk to my wife, I don't like, oh man, like you're so beautiful, how was your day, and blah blah blah.
00:14:39.919 --> 00:14:41.200
Hey, how's your day?
00:14:41.279 --> 00:14:42.240
How was that?
00:14:42.639 --> 00:14:44.879
What is it like what's going on here?
00:14:46.000 --> 00:15:00.240
And so it it becomes this just straightforward because you know the person, you know that you don't have to do these things, you don't have to fill them up with fluff.
00:15:00.399 --> 00:15:04.639
And so, with God, we see here that David knows who his God is.
00:15:04.799 --> 00:15:08.639
So, therefore, he comes to God and says, Answer me because you've helped me before.
00:15:08.879 --> 00:15:11.039
I'm coming to you because you've helped me before.
00:15:11.200 --> 00:15:21.279
And so the the Christian understanding of repentance is that we come to God and we plead with God because he's helped us before.
00:15:21.600 --> 00:15:30.000
So we're coming to him not as a last resort, we're coming to him as our first resort, and we come to him because he's helped us.
00:15:30.720 --> 00:15:32.720
And that's the reality of it.
00:15:32.960 --> 00:15:36.320
You've done it once, and you're gonna do it a million times.
00:15:36.559 --> 00:15:44.240
And so then, verse two, and so the first, first of all, it's the cry for help, the first verse, the first three verses.
00:15:44.639 --> 00:15:49.679
Second verse, he says, Oh man, how long shall my honor be turned into shame?
00:15:49.840 --> 00:15:54.879
How long will you love vain words and seek after lies?
00:15:55.120 --> 00:16:01.279
And then he turns to man, oh man, how long shall my honor be turned into shame?
00:16:01.519 --> 00:16:02.159
How long?
00:16:02.320 --> 00:16:04.320
How long shall it be turned into shame?
00:16:04.399 --> 00:16:14.559
How long will um will will just my honor, my my testimony be turned into shame?
00:16:14.799 --> 00:16:17.440
Like, how long am I gonna be slandered?
00:16:17.600 --> 00:16:19.600
And how long will you love vain words?
00:16:19.759 --> 00:16:34.240
Because men love vain words, men love to be praised, men love to be told they're beautiful and they're this and they're powerful and they're smart and you're so awesome and you're so cool, but that's men.
00:16:34.399 --> 00:16:44.159
Men love to do that, love men love to be uh in the words of my little brother, glazed, and so that's the reality.
00:16:44.399 --> 00:17:08.480
Men love that, God doesn't, and so because in our daily life and in our interactions with people um above us, we think we see and understand that they it's good for us if we just glaze them a little bit, we puff them up.
00:17:09.039 --> 00:17:14.960
We think therefore God must love it even more because he is far above us.
00:17:15.200 --> 00:17:25.279
And the reality is the Lord doesn't love empty words, the Lord doesn't like empty words, the Lord doesn't accept or receive empty words.
00:17:27.519 --> 00:17:29.839
That's that's that's the reality.
00:17:30.720 --> 00:17:41.920
Um verse three he gets into and he says, but know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself, the Lord hears when I call to him.
00:17:42.880 --> 00:17:50.880
But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself, the Lord hears when I call to him.
00:17:51.359 --> 00:17:54.640
And so this is the the reminding.
00:17:54.799 --> 00:18:29.519
David is reminding his opponents, he's reminding uh the people that remember that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself, and so making a distinction here, um that God has special attention, speck special affections for his people, and there's you know constant talk in the throughout the Bible, throughout the old testament, the remnant, there's the the elect that that we see throughout the book throughout the Bible.
00:18:29.759 --> 00:18:39.440
Um and so a lot of it becomes just this understanding that one is set apart, and and there's that distinction.
00:18:39.759 --> 00:18:55.680
Um and so he's telling them, know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself, the godly are God's people, and the godly are set apart for for God, and the Lord hears when I call.
00:18:55.920 --> 00:19:03.759
And so therefore, David is saying, The God sets the part the godly for himself, the Lord hears when I call.
00:19:03.920 --> 00:19:11.599
Therefore, and if you understand what he's saying, he's saying God sets apart the godly for himself, and guess what?
00:19:11.759 --> 00:19:20.160
I am one of the godly, I am one of the people of God, I am one of the people that God has set apart, therefore he hears me.
00:19:21.279 --> 00:19:31.519
When we think of prayer, when we think of repentance, when we think of these things and coming to God, the book of Hebrews tells us the book, I don't know why I said it like that.
00:19:31.680 --> 00:19:39.920
The book of Hebrews tells us and reminds us that we are to come boldly before the throne of God, with confidence before the throne of God.
00:19:40.559 --> 00:20:18.799
And only the sons and daughters of God can come boldly or with confidence to the throne of God, because only those people are confident that God hears them, and so when we are confident that God hears us, when we're confident that God wants to hear everything, that God is listening to everything, then our prayer life grows and grows and grows because as as adults, for example, we are used to keeping it short and telling ourselves, well, nobody wants to hear this.
00:20:20.160 --> 00:20:27.200
And you know, it's why we'll tell stories and they may be good, and we'll always say, Well, to make a long story short.
00:20:27.759 --> 00:20:32.559
Because we feel like, well, nobody wants to hear the details that lead up and make the story longer.
00:20:32.880 --> 00:20:42.880
God does, God has separated the the godly, and he wants to hear it, and and it's almost like a child with their parents.
00:20:43.039 --> 00:20:48.480
And if you've ever been around little kid, a little kid will tell you the most random things.
00:20:48.720 --> 00:20:52.400
It's like whatever come pops into their mind, they're just telling you.
00:20:52.559 --> 00:21:06.079
And little kid doesn't have the reservation or doesn't have the the the thought or the the idea that you may not want to hear it, that you don't care.
00:21:07.039 --> 00:21:17.039
A kid will tell you, look, this block is red, and you know that you see the block, it's red, and they'll say, Yeah, I like red things.
00:21:17.200 --> 00:21:20.160
I have a red shirt, my favorite color is red.
00:21:21.200 --> 00:21:25.039
And as an adult, you're like, Ah, okay, cool, man.
00:21:25.359 --> 00:21:29.440
But a kid doesn't fe think, do they care about this?
00:21:29.599 --> 00:21:31.119
No, I'm not gonna say it.
00:21:31.680 --> 00:21:38.480
And we, as you get older, you know, you get hurt, people tell you shut up, people tell you you're annoying.
00:21:38.799 --> 00:21:56.319
All of a sudden, we take that into prayer, all of a sudden we take that into our prayer life, and instead of telling God what's going on, what's happening, we tell instead of having the confidence and the faith that God hears us, we think, Well, God doesn't want to hear this.
00:21:57.920 --> 00:22:09.039
And we kind of do uh To keep a long story short with God, and so David here is saying, I am one of the godly, and God hears when I call to him.
00:22:09.519 --> 00:22:10.880
God hears me.
00:22:11.599 --> 00:22:14.400
And so we must have the confidence.
00:22:14.480 --> 00:22:28.400
If you are a Christian, if you have been saved by grace, if you have repented, if you have confessed your sins, if you have put your faith in the Lord, then be confident that God hears you.
00:22:28.720 --> 00:22:32.240
And don't be afraid to say, I am a godly person.
00:22:32.400 --> 00:22:34.480
I am of the I am of the people of God.
00:22:34.559 --> 00:22:36.160
I am a child of God.
00:22:36.480 --> 00:22:46.160
Because David here isn't saying, ah, you know, hopefully I'm, you know, hopefully I'm good enough to be, hopefully, you know, like I, you know, I'm trying really hard, and hopefully.
00:22:46.319 --> 00:22:50.000
No, David is saying God has set apart the godly for himself.
00:22:50.640 --> 00:22:52.640
The Lord hears when I call to him.
00:22:53.599 --> 00:22:58.240
So if he hears me, therefore I am one of the people that he has set apart for himself.
00:22:58.880 --> 00:23:04.400
And so that's the reality, that's the truth of what he's saying.
00:23:04.480 --> 00:23:08.079
There's a confidence there that we as Christians must carry.
00:23:08.240 --> 00:23:17.519
Verse 4, the second point, the second part, the first one is a cry for help, a cry for God to help us.
00:23:17.759 --> 00:23:21.440
The second is there's this call now to repentance.
00:23:21.920 --> 00:23:24.240
And this is verse 4 and 5.
00:23:24.480 --> 00:23:26.000
Be angry and do not sin.
00:23:26.160 --> 00:23:29.759
Ponder in your heart on your beds and be silent.
00:23:30.000 --> 00:23:34.960
Offer right sacrifices, put your trust in the Lord.
00:23:35.279 --> 00:23:48.079
And now there is now this call to walk upon and kind of ponder and put the trust in the Lord.
00:23:48.160 --> 00:24:03.200
And we are given in verse 4 this this very popular and very power and powerful verse and this powerful idea and this tough idea of being angry and not sinning.
00:24:03.680 --> 00:24:15.839
Um, and this is obviously in the context of what he's talking about, those that slander, those that those that are um turned his honor into shame.
00:24:16.079 --> 00:24:24.559
And so he's saying, Be angry and do not sin, ponder in your own hearts on your own beds, and be silent.
00:24:25.119 --> 00:24:27.599
So he's saying, Don't do anything.
00:24:28.079 --> 00:24:29.039
Don't do anything.
00:24:29.200 --> 00:24:36.720
People are slandering, people are coming against you, people are saying lies about you, people are talking about you, people are putting you down.
00:24:37.839 --> 00:24:48.480
And so the way you don't sin is go to your bed and be silent.
00:24:48.640 --> 00:24:49.279
Shut up.
00:24:49.519 --> 00:24:51.200
Don't open your mouth.
00:24:52.559 --> 00:24:56.559
Ponder in your own hearts on your beds and be silent.
00:24:56.880 --> 00:24:57.680
Go lay down.
00:24:57.839 --> 00:24:59.680
Go lay down and shut up.
00:25:00.240 --> 00:25:11.440
When people are talking about you and you want to burst, you know, you're angry because somebody's lying about you, someone has said something to you or about you, and it's lies.
00:25:12.720 --> 00:25:14.319
Be angry and do not sin.
00:25:15.440 --> 00:25:19.039
You do that by laying in bed and shutting up.
00:25:19.519 --> 00:25:21.279
And that's what he's saying here.
00:25:21.440 --> 00:25:24.480
Offer right sacrifices and put your trust in the Lord.
00:25:24.799 --> 00:25:26.559
Worship is what he's saying.
00:25:27.440 --> 00:25:32.400
The call for the Christian in times of need is to wait on the Lord.
00:25:32.720 --> 00:25:46.640
And so when we think of the Christian point viewpoint on repentance, on waiting, on joy, on all these things, it is waiting on God to provide that.
00:25:47.440 --> 00:25:53.599
It isn't praying once and then finding refuge somewhere else.
00:25:54.319 --> 00:25:58.319
It is us that we need to wait on God and learn to wait on God.
00:25:58.480 --> 00:26:05.200
Learn to we need to learn to shut up, really, is is is the big key that we miss out.
00:26:05.920 --> 00:26:10.960
And so here he he's he's saying these things to wait.
00:26:11.119 --> 00:26:19.119
There's a call to repentance, there's a call to repent, there's a call to to offer sacrifices, to trust in the Lord, to wait on the Lord.
00:26:19.200 --> 00:26:26.240
And part of this can be repentance, and that's why I'm saying repentance, because some sometimes this this is repenting.
00:26:26.319 --> 00:26:31.359
Sometimes this is waiting on God to restore, waiting on God to free, not to forgive, but to restore.
00:26:31.599 --> 00:26:45.599
And so waiting on God to restore us, and whether that's a relationship or whatever, or a church or whatever else, but offering, and because he says, uh be angry, do not sin, ponder in your hearts, on your beds, and be silent.
00:26:45.839 --> 00:26:48.640
Offer right sacrifices.
00:26:48.880 --> 00:26:52.559
He doesn't say just offer sacrifices, offer the right sacrifices.
00:26:52.640 --> 00:26:58.880
And if you, you know, in the in what we're reading here, you go to the priest and you say, What must I do?
00:26:59.279 --> 00:27:13.119
So this is an understanding of knowing how to please God, knowing what God is accepting as worship and as a right sacrifices, knowing what God is accepting as that.
00:27:13.440 --> 00:27:26.319
And so when we know what God is what God accepts as the right sacrifice, then that's what waiting on the Lord is.
00:27:26.480 --> 00:28:48.799
That's what waiting on God is, that's what that's what truly being blessed by the Lord is, and knowing that He hears us, knowing that He is gonna restore us, knowing, like we read in verse uh one that He's gonna give relief, but it is offering the right sacrifices, so it's important to know the Bible, it is important to know what Scripture says, it is important to know what the Bible says, and it's important to know how it is that we are to come before the Lord, and so it is why confession of our sins and confessing our sins to the Lord is so crucial, and it's why it must happen daily and it must happen constantly before the Lord because we get dirty, we get dirty in this world, we're sinful people, and so that so for our growth, for our growth, we need to continue to repent, we need to continue to confess, and so that helps us in in our time of need offering the right sacrifice, and that's you know would be the right sacrifice in our time a day.
00:28:49.119 --> 00:29:00.160
The third point here is that the true joy comes from God, and we see this in verse six and seven, and it tells us there are many who say, Who will show us some good?
00:29:00.480 --> 00:29:03.839
Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord.
00:29:04.079 --> 00:29:09.839
You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.
00:29:10.640 --> 00:29:19.200
And so there are those who say, There are the scoffers who say, Who will show us some good?
00:29:20.799 --> 00:29:26.960
And David's response is Lift up Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord.
00:29:28.480 --> 00:29:38.720
You have put more joy in my heart than they have when they're grain and wind about.
00:29:40.960 --> 00:29:48.319
The joy of the Christian doesn't come from things, doesn't come from answered prayers, doesn't come from any of that.
00:29:48.559 --> 00:29:51.839
The joy of the our joy comes from God Himself.
00:29:52.400 --> 00:30:06.000
And the joy of waiting on him, the joy of worshiping him, the joy of praising him, the the joy of of being before him, knowing him and knowing that he hears us.
00:30:07.519 --> 00:30:19.119
That he gives us more joy than what the person in the world gets when they're grain and wine bound.
00:30:19.680 --> 00:30:35.359
When people are posp you know, there's there's there's uh prosperity with finances and everything else, wine and wine and grain, which is you know prosperity, we have more joy than that.
00:30:35.519 --> 00:30:39.039
Our joy doesn't come from the things we get, the joy doesn't come from any of that.
00:30:39.200 --> 00:30:48.400
Our joy comes from the Lord, and that is the Christian worldview of repentance, that is the Christian worldview of waiting on God.
00:30:48.880 --> 00:30:53.759
That's why when we when if the question comes up, why do you pray?
00:30:54.640 --> 00:31:05.039
Because my joy comes from God, and when I pray, God hears me, God offers me relief, and I have joy.
00:31:06.559 --> 00:31:08.079
That's the reality of it.
00:31:10.000 --> 00:31:18.319
And at the last point, in peace I will both lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
00:31:18.960 --> 00:31:20.160
The Christian.
00:31:22.640 --> 00:31:26.720
The Christian is able to rest in God.
00:31:28.000 --> 00:31:40.480
God takes care of the Christian, God takes care of the of his sons and daughters, and it is one of the most comforting verses, I think, in all the scripture.
00:31:40.720 --> 00:31:53.359
That is secure David's security here isn't doesn't come from the fact that he's not in danger, doesn't come because he doesn't have enemies, it doesn't come from any of that.
00:31:54.079 --> 00:32:20.720
His security comes from God, his security comes from the protection that he has in the presence of God, and that is a very powerful thing that all of us as Christians need to understand that our protection, our peace, our joy doesn't come from the money that's in the bank, the credit score, it doesn't come from any of that.
00:32:21.680 --> 00:32:23.759
It comes from God Himself.
00:32:24.480 --> 00:32:35.599
And so it's not that we need no danger to feel safe, it's that we have God, so therefore, regardless of what's happening around us, we are safe in Him.
00:32:38.480 --> 00:33:30.240
And that's what Psalm 4 is teaching us, and that's the the viewpoint, that is the Christian world view of repentance, of prayer, prayer, and so our greatest joy, our greatest peace comes from not it doesn't come from having you know circumstances that are favorable to us, we're from trusting in God who protects us, and that is the truth of the scriptures, and so that's uh the Christian worldview that our peace, that our joy doesn't come from the things around us, it comes from God.
00:33:33.279 --> 00:33:37.359
I will talk to you again on Friday until then.
00:00:00.320 --> 00:00:02.240
Welcome to the Airzap Podcast.
00:00:02.560 --> 00:00:06.719
On this episode, Wednesday afternoon-ish.
00:00:07.599 --> 00:00:16.480
Um and I had ish because by the time uh you hear this, it's gonna be Wednesday night slash Thursday morning.
00:00:16.559 --> 00:00:22.800
Uh but it's Wednesday when I'm hitting record, so that's that's where it counts.
00:00:23.120 --> 00:00:25.760
Uh Christian Worldview Wednesday today.
00:00:26.079 --> 00:00:27.120
Psalm 4.
00:00:28.160 --> 00:00:36.960
We are gonna hit it from the standpoint of what does it mean to to pray to the Lord?
00:00:37.119 --> 00:00:53.280
What does it mean to to come before Him and the joy that the joy that comes from asking God for help, the joy that comes from repentance, and the joy that comes from only God Himself.
00:00:53.600 --> 00:01:01.280
And in the Christian viewpoint, we we find our joy in God.
00:01:02.000 --> 00:01:17.760
God is the source of all joy, God is the source of all goodness, and so our joy is found in God, and because our joy is found in God, the only way to to receive that joy is through repentance.
00:01:17.920 --> 00:01:20.480
And so that's what we'll be hitting at today.
00:01:20.799 --> 00:01:23.920
Um quick World Cup notes.
00:01:24.719 --> 00:01:30.239
Argentina and Spain will play in the World Cup final, 12 p.m.
00:01:30.400 --> 00:01:32.239
Pacific time on Sunday.
00:01:32.400 --> 00:01:38.319
I have church at one, so I won't be watching, and uh, I'm very thankful for that.
00:01:39.359 --> 00:01:51.439
Um and look, France got completely, completely outplayed, outcoached, dominated by Spain.
00:01:51.760 --> 00:01:59.439
Olisa was completely taken out, Dembele just had an awful game, and Mbappe just had nobody with him.
00:01:59.760 --> 00:02:36.960
00:02:37.199 --> 00:02:45.120
That's just what's what happened, and today Argentina versus England, uh, one of the best games of the World Cup.
00:02:45.280 --> 00:02:48.800
Uh the hate just lived up to it just from the get-go.
00:02:48.960 --> 00:03:05.360
You could just no neither team likes each other, and nobody likes Argentina, and uh so you know, just this World Cup for me, ever since Mexico went out, was just rooting for Ronaldo and hopefully he could win it.
00:03:05.520 --> 00:03:15.120
And after that, it's just you know, I'm rooting for whoever plays Argentina, and it hasn't worked out for me, and uh Spain is uh the final hope.
00:03:15.280 --> 00:03:16.159
So we'll see.
00:03:16.319 --> 00:03:19.599
Uh, but Argentina outlasted England.
00:03:20.400 --> 00:03:22.879
This loss is 100% on Tutcho.
00:03:23.360 --> 00:03:23.840
100%.
00:03:24.479 --> 00:03:42.960
It's hard to it's it's rare when you watch a game and you don't you can't pinpoint a player that's to blame, and you can't pinpoint a moment um on the field where you say, Okay, this if this doesn't happen, then whatever.
00:03:43.199 --> 00:03:47.520
And Argentina, with all the controversy of the refs, the ref was fine today.
00:03:47.840 --> 00:03:55.039
There was no um there was nothing, you know, egregious that was called for Argentina.
00:03:55.120 --> 00:03:57.360
I felt like the whistle was fair both ways.
00:03:57.520 --> 00:04:00.639
I I don't think Argentina got away with anything.
00:04:00.879 --> 00:04:07.680
Um now if you're an English fan, I'm sure you you disagree, but you know, but that's fine.
00:04:07.919 --> 00:04:10.639
Um Argentina just out lasted.
00:04:10.800 --> 00:04:13.199
And Argentina had no business winning that game.
00:04:13.360 --> 00:04:15.759
Pickford had had a had an awesome game.
00:04:15.919 --> 00:04:21.839
At the end, I didn't like a lot a lot of his like kickball kicks, just wasn't a fan of them.
00:04:22.240 --> 00:04:30.240
Um Kane had a really good performance on just creating space and moving, and he had the assist.
00:04:32.079 --> 00:04:33.040
I don't know, man.
00:04:33.120 --> 00:04:40.319
I I just I feel like it was one of those games that we're gonna look back and well uh we don't even have to look back.
00:04:40.480 --> 00:04:45.360
Like we we're I'm I'm thinking now a few hours after.
00:04:46.399 --> 00:04:47.600
That was on Tucho.
00:04:49.199 --> 00:04:51.040
That was Tucho 100%.
00:04:51.600 --> 00:04:58.879
You had Spence who had a phenomenal game, Anderson who was amazing in in the midfield.
00:04:59.519 --> 00:05:01.839
Declan Rice could have been better, I guess.
00:05:02.079 --> 00:05:05.519
Reese James was really good, and so you just go down the line.
00:05:05.600 --> 00:05:10.560
Bellingham was controlling the the midfield and and doing good runs, and so was Rogers.
00:05:11.839 --> 00:05:12.800
I don't know, man.
00:05:12.879 --> 00:05:20.399
Uh, you just go around and you just think like, man, you get that one- what the the goal in the 55th minute.
00:05:20.639 --> 00:05:50.240
00:05:50.480 --> 00:05:55.040
I thought Saka should have came in the game, I thought Rashford should have come in the game.
00:05:55.199 --> 00:06:00.720
It's just m Tucho carries this and he should carry this forever.
00:06:00.879 --> 00:06:02.639
This is on Tucho 100%.
00:06:03.759 --> 00:06:04.480
100%.
00:06:05.600 --> 00:06:09.680
On the other side, Messi turned out a really good game at the end.
00:06:09.839 --> 00:06:12.879
He was just playmaking all over the place.
00:06:13.040 --> 00:06:16.000
Argentina just roughed it up from the get-go.
00:06:17.279 --> 00:06:25.680
And it just, you know, Enzo was doing just a lot of dirty plays from the very beginning.
00:06:26.000 --> 00:06:28.399
Martinez, as always, and Romero.
00:06:28.560 --> 00:06:34.240
Yeah, it's just it was just a typical typical Argentina, just rough em up.
00:06:34.720 --> 00:06:38.959
Uh Simeone, I'm you know, I'm surprised that guy didn't get booked.
00:06:39.199 --> 00:06:54.399
And at the end, Enzo, a golaso, just just a golaso in the 85th minute, and in the 92nd minute, um Messi to Lauturo game.
00:06:55.360 --> 00:06:59.600
Argentina lives another day, and they're probably gonna run the World Cup.
00:07:01.199 --> 00:07:02.639
And that's the reality of it.
00:07:02.800 --> 00:07:06.560
So um, yeah, that's where we're at with the World Cup.
00:07:06.639 --> 00:07:10.240
So um, Christian World Review Wednesdays.
00:07:10.480 --> 00:07:11.519
Here we go.
00:07:21.360 --> 00:07:26.639
Christian World Review Wednesdays, um four, where we're at today.
00:07:26.800 --> 00:07:52.959
00:07:53.040 --> 00:08:16.560
00:08:16.959 --> 00:08:23.439
And so Psalm 4, we've done the first three Psalms, so you can find out anywhere you listen to your podcast.
00:08:23.680 --> 00:08:37.440
But Psalm 4, we get into a prayer of David, it's uh it's a prayer of like if we can title it, it's probably you know, can you hear me?
00:08:37.679 --> 00:08:40.559
Or um answer.
00:08:40.960 --> 00:08:51.519
Uh, I have you know shout out to my to my boy Kodo who who will who will text answer and that's what I think of when I when I when I was reading this.
00:08:51.840 --> 00:08:57.440
Um it's a psalm of David, and it's it's in three parts.
00:08:57.519 --> 00:09:04.399
And so the point of this psalm, it's it's four themes that we find in this one.
00:09:04.720 --> 00:09:37.840
00:09:37.919 --> 00:10:01.120
You know, confessing our sins, repenting of our sins, confessing Christ as Lord, and that is where joy comes from, which is different than any other world view where joy may come from money or possessions or people or you know, pleasure, or whatever.
00:10:01.600 --> 00:10:13.200
And in the Bible, the Bible states, and the Bible is very clear, that our joy comes from God, and all good things come from God, because only God is good.
00:10:13.679 --> 00:10:37.120
The goodness of God is just a central teaching to the Bible because the goodness of God teaches us that only He is truly good, and because He is only good and He can own and He's the only one that is truly good, we are then therefore lacking any sense of goodness.
00:10:37.519 --> 00:10:56.879
So, therefore, our need of Him is that much greater because we we are in need, we are in need of salvation, and when we come to the Lord, when we cry out to the Lord, and we repent of our sins, we then therefore get God, and in getting God we get joy.
00:10:57.120 --> 00:11:01.519
And so it's broken down to three into four uh parts.
00:11:01.679 --> 00:11:07.679
Uh the first part is verse one through three, and it is this is the the cry for help.
00:11:07.840 --> 00:11:09.840
This is David crying for help.
00:11:10.080 --> 00:11:19.039
Um, and it goes, and this is from the ESV answer me when I call you, when I call, O God of my righteousness.
00:11:19.200 --> 00:11:22.320
You have given me relief when I was in distress.
00:11:22.559 --> 00:11:25.279
Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
00:11:25.519 --> 00:11:30.320
And so we get from the start just this answer me when I call.
00:11:30.559 --> 00:11:39.039
And it is this pleading, it is this this not even asking, this telling, answer me when I reach out to you, answer me when I call you.
00:11:40.399 --> 00:11:47.519
And then there's an immediate just call, an immediate just understanding.
00:11:47.759 --> 00:11:59.120
You have given me relief, so it's not an answer me because you owe me, or answer me because you have to, it's an answer me because you've given me relief.
00:11:59.279 --> 00:12:08.720
I'm coming to you for relief, and you've given it to me before, so therefore, give me relief again, is what David is saying.
00:12:09.039 --> 00:12:29.200
Um, be gracious to me and hear my prayer, and so this is where we begin to see that this isn't a listen when I call you, it isn't this just demanding, it is I'm coming to you because you've given me relief.
00:12:30.159 --> 00:12:36.559
Now be gracious to me, listen to me, be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
00:12:36.799 --> 00:12:53.039
And so when we think of repentance, when we think of coming to God and and asking God, and it the the the Bible doesn't pin it the way modern Christianity paints it.
00:12:53.279 --> 00:13:03.360
We are I think almost taught and I say almost because I don't think anybody actually says it, but I think everybody does it.
00:13:03.600 --> 00:13:21.440
Um we're almost taught to fill up God with like a bunch of words, and we just say randomness, and we hope that we get the combination of the words correctly so that our prayer can work.
00:13:22.159 --> 00:13:31.519
And we kind of just go out there and we just say things, Lord, you're good, God, you're awesome and full of this, and blah blah blah.
00:13:31.840 --> 00:13:39.200
And we almost feel like if we say enough of those nice words to God, our request will then be heard.
00:13:39.679 --> 00:13:49.919
And in the Bible, we get this very straight, simple, straightforward request from the people that pray to God.
00:13:50.799 --> 00:14:08.879
And it is people that know God, and it is interesting because the more you know someone, the less formal it is, the less you the and the less you know someone, the more formal it is, because you need more formality if you know somebody less.
00:14:09.120 --> 00:14:12.960
But if you know someone, you don't need, hey, what's going on?
00:14:13.120 --> 00:14:14.240
How are you doing?
00:14:14.720 --> 00:14:16.240
Weather's crazy, huh?
00:14:16.559 --> 00:14:18.480
Man, traffic, how's traffic?
00:14:18.639 --> 00:14:22.480
You don't need a lot of that filler stuff, you don't need a lot of that.
00:14:22.720 --> 00:14:24.720
You kind of just cut to the chase.
00:14:24.960 --> 00:14:39.600
When I see my br my my sisters or you know, whoever, my friend or someone I'm close to, uh, when I talk to my wife, I don't like, oh man, like you're so beautiful, how was your day, and blah blah blah.
00:14:39.919 --> 00:14:41.200
Hey, how's your day?
00:14:41.279 --> 00:14:42.240
How was that?
00:14:42.639 --> 00:14:44.879
What is it like what's going on here?
00:14:46.000 --> 00:15:00.240
And so it it becomes this just straightforward because you know the person, you know that you don't have to do these things, you don't have to fill them up with fluff.
00:15:00.399 --> 00:15:04.639
And so, with God, we see here that David knows who his God is.
00:15:04.799 --> 00:15:08.639
So, therefore, he comes to God and says, Answer me because you've helped me before.
00:15:08.879 --> 00:15:11.039
I'm coming to you because you've helped me before.
00:15:11.200 --> 00:15:21.279
And so the the Christian understanding of repentance is that we come to God and we plead with God because he's helped us before.
00:15:21.600 --> 00:15:30.000
So we're coming to him not as a last resort, we're coming to him as our first resort, and we come to him because he's helped us.
00:15:30.720 --> 00:15:32.720
And that's the reality of it.
00:15:32.960 --> 00:15:36.320
You've done it once, and you're gonna do it a million times.
00:15:36.559 --> 00:15:44.240
And so then, verse two, and so the first, first of all, it's the cry for help, the first verse, the first three verses.
00:15:44.639 --> 00:15:49.679
Second verse, he says, Oh man, how long shall my honor be turned into shame?
00:15:49.840 --> 00:15:54.879
How long will you love vain words and seek after lies?
00:15:55.120 --> 00:16:01.279
And then he turns to man, oh man, how long shall my honor be turned into shame?
00:16:01.519 --> 00:16:02.159
How long?
00:16:02.320 --> 00:16:04.320
How long shall it be turned into shame?
00:16:04.399 --> 00:16:14.559
How long will um will will just my honor, my my testimony be turned into shame?
00:16:14.799 --> 00:16:17.440
Like, how long am I gonna be slandered?
00:16:17.600 --> 00:16:19.600
And how long will you love vain words?
00:16:19.759 --> 00:16:34.240
Because men love vain words, men love to be praised, men love to be told they're beautiful and they're this and they're powerful and they're smart and you're so awesome and you're so cool, but that's men.
00:16:34.399 --> 00:16:44.159
Men love to do that, love men love to be uh in the words of my little brother, glazed, and so that's the reality.
00:16:44.399 --> 00:17:08.480
Men love that, God doesn't, and so because in our daily life and in our interactions with people um above us, we think we see and understand that they it's good for us if we just glaze them a little bit, we puff them up.
00:17:09.039 --> 00:17:14.960
We think therefore God must love it even more because he is far above us.
00:17:15.200 --> 00:17:25.279
And the reality is the Lord doesn't love empty words, the Lord doesn't like empty words, the Lord doesn't accept or receive empty words.
00:17:27.519 --> 00:17:29.839
That's that's that's the reality.
00:17:30.720 --> 00:17:41.920
Um verse three he gets into and he says, but know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself, the Lord hears when I call to him.
00:17:42.880 --> 00:17:50.880
But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself, the Lord hears when I call to him.
00:17:51.359 --> 00:17:54.640
And so this is the the reminding.
00:17:54.799 --> 00:18:29.519
00:18:29.759 --> 00:18:39.440
Um and so a lot of it becomes just this understanding that one is set apart, and and there's that distinction.
00:18:39.759 --> 00:18:55.680
Um and so he's telling them, know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself, the godly are God's people, and the godly are set apart for for God, and the Lord hears when I call.
00:18:55.920 --> 00:19:03.759
And so therefore, David is saying, The God sets the part the godly for himself, the Lord hears when I call.
00:19:03.920 --> 00:19:11.599
Therefore, and if you understand what he's saying, he's saying God sets apart the godly for himself, and guess what?
00:19:11.759 --> 00:19:20.160
I am one of the godly, I am one of the people of God, I am one of the people that God has set apart, therefore he hears me.
00:19:21.279 --> 00:19:31.519
When we think of prayer, when we think of repentance, when we think of these things and coming to God, the book of Hebrews tells us the book, I don't know why I said it like that.
00:19:31.680 --> 00:19:39.920
The book of Hebrews tells us and reminds us that we are to come boldly before the throne of God, with confidence before the throne of God.
00:19:40.559 --> 00:20:18.799
00:20:20.160 --> 00:20:27.200
And you know, it's why we'll tell stories and they may be good, and we'll always say, Well, to make a long story short.
00:20:27.759 --> 00:20:32.559
Because we feel like, well, nobody wants to hear the details that lead up and make the story longer.
00:20:32.880 --> 00:20:42.880
God does, God has separated the the godly, and he wants to hear it, and and it's almost like a child with their parents.
00:20:43.039 --> 00:20:48.480
And if you've ever been around little kid, a little kid will tell you the most random things.
00:20:48.720 --> 00:20:52.400
It's like whatever come pops into their mind, they're just telling you.
00:20:52.559 --> 00:21:06.079
And little kid doesn't have the reservation or doesn't have the the the thought or the the idea that you may not want to hear it, that you don't care.
00:21:07.039 --> 00:21:17.039
A kid will tell you, look, this block is red, and you know that you see the block, it's red, and they'll say, Yeah, I like red things.
00:21:17.200 --> 00:21:20.160
I have a red shirt, my favorite color is red.
00:21:21.200 --> 00:21:25.039
And as an adult, you're like, Ah, okay, cool, man.
00:21:25.359 --> 00:21:29.440
But a kid doesn't fe think, do they care about this?
00:21:29.599 --> 00:21:31.119
No, I'm not gonna say it.
00:21:31.680 --> 00:21:38.480
And we, as you get older, you know, you get hurt, people tell you shut up, people tell you you're annoying.
00:21:38.799 --> 00:21:56.319
All of a sudden, we take that into prayer, all of a sudden we take that into our prayer life, and instead of telling God what's going on, what's happening, we tell instead of having the confidence and the faith that God hears us, we think, Well, God doesn't want to hear this.
00:21:57.920 --> 00:22:09.039
And we kind of do uh To keep a long story short with God, and so David here is saying, I am one of the godly, and God hears when I call to him.
00:22:09.519 --> 00:22:10.880
God hears me.
00:22:11.599 --> 00:22:14.400
And so we must have the confidence.
00:22:14.480 --> 00:22:28.400
If you are a Christian, if you have been saved by grace, if you have repented, if you have confessed your sins, if you have put your faith in the Lord, then be confident that God hears you.
00:22:28.720 --> 00:22:32.240
And don't be afraid to say, I am a godly person.
00:22:32.400 --> 00:22:34.480
I am of the I am of the people of God.
00:22:34.559 --> 00:22:36.160
I am a child of God.
00:22:36.480 --> 00:22:46.160
Because David here isn't saying, ah, you know, hopefully I'm, you know, hopefully I'm good enough to be, hopefully, you know, like I, you know, I'm trying really hard, and hopefully.
00:22:46.319 --> 00:22:50.000
No, David is saying God has set apart the godly for himself.
00:22:50.640 --> 00:22:52.640
The Lord hears when I call to him.
00:22:53.599 --> 00:22:58.240
So if he hears me, therefore I am one of the people that he has set apart for himself.
00:22:58.880 --> 00:23:04.400
And so that's the reality, that's the truth of what he's saying.
00:23:04.480 --> 00:23:08.079
There's a confidence there that we as Christians must carry.
00:23:08.240 --> 00:23:17.519
Verse 4, the second point, the second part, the first one is a cry for help, a cry for God to help us.
00:23:17.759 --> 00:23:21.440
The second is there's this call now to repentance.
00:23:21.920 --> 00:23:24.240
And this is verse 4 and 5.
00:23:24.480 --> 00:23:26.000
Be angry and do not sin.
00:23:26.160 --> 00:23:29.759
Ponder in your heart on your beds and be silent.
00:23:30.000 --> 00:23:34.960
Offer right sacrifices, put your trust in the Lord.
00:23:35.279 --> 00:23:48.079
And now there is now this call to walk upon and kind of ponder and put the trust in the Lord.
00:23:48.160 --> 00:24:03.200
And we are given in verse 4 this this very popular and very power and powerful verse and this powerful idea and this tough idea of being angry and not sinning.
00:24:03.680 --> 00:24:15.839
Um, and this is obviously in the context of what he's talking about, those that slander, those that those that are um turned his honor into shame.
00:24:16.079 --> 00:24:24.559
And so he's saying, Be angry and do not sin, ponder in your own hearts on your own beds, and be silent.
00:24:25.119 --> 00:24:27.599
So he's saying, Don't do anything.
00:24:28.079 --> 00:24:29.039
Don't do anything.
00:24:29.200 --> 00:24:36.720
People are slandering, people are coming against you, people are saying lies about you, people are talking about you, people are putting you down.
00:24:37.839 --> 00:24:48.480
And so the way you don't sin is go to your bed and be silent.
00:24:48.640 --> 00:24:49.279
Shut up.
00:24:49.519 --> 00:24:51.200
Don't open your mouth.
00:24:52.559 --> 00:24:56.559
Ponder in your own hearts on your beds and be silent.
00:24:56.880 --> 00:24:57.680
Go lay down.
00:24:57.839 --> 00:24:59.680
Go lay down and shut up.
00:25:00.240 --> 00:25:11.440
When people are talking about you and you want to burst, you know, you're angry because somebody's lying about you, someone has said something to you or about you, and it's lies.
00:25:12.720 --> 00:25:14.319
Be angry and do not sin.
00:25:15.440 --> 00:25:19.039
You do that by laying in bed and shutting up.
00:25:19.519 --> 00:25:21.279
And that's what he's saying here.
00:25:21.440 --> 00:25:24.480
Offer right sacrifices and put your trust in the Lord.
00:25:24.799 --> 00:25:26.559
Worship is what he's saying.
00:25:27.440 --> 00:25:32.400
The call for the Christian in times of need is to wait on the Lord.
00:25:32.720 --> 00:25:46.640
And so when we think of the Christian point viewpoint on repentance, on waiting, on joy, on all these things, it is waiting on God to provide that.
00:25:47.440 --> 00:25:53.599
It isn't praying once and then finding refuge somewhere else.
00:25:54.319 --> 00:25:58.319
It is us that we need to wait on God and learn to wait on God.
00:25:58.480 --> 00:26:05.200
Learn to we need to learn to shut up, really, is is is the big key that we miss out.
00:26:05.920 --> 00:26:10.960
And so here he he's he's saying these things to wait.
00:26:11.119 --> 00:26:19.119
There's a call to repentance, there's a call to repent, there's a call to to offer sacrifices, to trust in the Lord, to wait on the Lord.
00:26:19.200 --> 00:26:26.240
And part of this can be repentance, and that's why I'm saying repentance, because some sometimes this this is repenting.
00:26:26.319 --> 00:26:31.359
Sometimes this is waiting on God to restore, waiting on God to free, not to forgive, but to restore.
00:26:31.599 --> 00:26:45.599
And so waiting on God to restore us, and whether that's a relationship or whatever, or a church or whatever else, but offering, and because he says, uh be angry, do not sin, ponder in your hearts, on your beds, and be silent.
00:26:45.839 --> 00:26:48.640
Offer right sacrifices.
00:26:48.880 --> 00:26:52.559
He doesn't say just offer sacrifices, offer the right sacrifices.
00:26:52.640 --> 00:26:58.880
And if you, you know, in the in what we're reading here, you go to the priest and you say, What must I do?
00:26:59.279 --> 00:27:13.119
So this is an understanding of knowing how to please God, knowing what God is accepting as worship and as a right sacrifices, knowing what God is accepting as that.
00:27:13.440 --> 00:27:26.319
And so when we know what God is what God accepts as the right sacrifice, then that's what waiting on the Lord is.
00:27:26.480 --> 00:28:48.799
00:28:49.119 --> 00:29:00.160
The third point here is that the true joy comes from God, and we see this in verse six and seven, and it tells us there are many who say, Who will show us some good?
00:29:00.480 --> 00:29:03.839
Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord.
00:29:04.079 --> 00:29:09.839
You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.
00:29:10.640 --> 00:29:19.200
And so there are those who say, There are the scoffers who say, Who will show us some good?
00:29:20.799 --> 00:29:26.960
And David's response is Lift up Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord.
00:29:28.480 --> 00:29:38.720
You have put more joy in my heart than they have when they're grain and wind about.
00:29:40.960 --> 00:29:48.319
The joy of the Christian doesn't come from things, doesn't come from answered prayers, doesn't come from any of that.
00:29:48.559 --> 00:29:51.839
The joy of the our joy comes from God Himself.
00:29:52.400 --> 00:30:06.000
And the joy of waiting on him, the joy of worshiping him, the joy of praising him, the the joy of of being before him, knowing him and knowing that he hears us.
00:30:07.519 --> 00:30:19.119
That he gives us more joy than what the person in the world gets when they're grain and wine bound.
00:30:19.680 --> 00:30:35.359
When people are posp you know, there's there's there's uh prosperity with finances and everything else, wine and wine and grain, which is you know prosperity, we have more joy than that.
00:30:35.519 --> 00:30:39.039
Our joy doesn't come from the things we get, the joy doesn't come from any of that.
00:30:39.200 --> 00:30:48.400
Our joy comes from the Lord, and that is the Christian worldview of repentance, that is the Christian worldview of waiting on God.
00:30:48.880 --> 00:30:53.759
That's why when we when if the question comes up, why do you pray?
00:30:54.640 --> 00:31:05.039
Because my joy comes from God, and when I pray, God hears me, God offers me relief, and I have joy.
00:31:06.559 --> 00:31:08.079
That's the reality of it.
00:31:10.000 --> 00:31:18.319
And at the last point, in peace I will both lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
00:31:18.960 --> 00:31:20.160
The Christian.
00:31:22.640 --> 00:31:26.720
The Christian is able to rest in God.
00:31:28.000 --> 00:31:40.480
God takes care of the Christian, God takes care of the of his sons and daughters, and it is one of the most comforting verses, I think, in all the scripture.
00:31:40.720 --> 00:31:53.359
That is secure David's security here isn't doesn't come from the fact that he's not in danger, doesn't come because he doesn't have enemies, it doesn't come from any of that.
00:31:54.079 --> 00:32:20.720
His security comes from God, his security comes from the protection that he has in the presence of God, and that is a very powerful thing that all of us as Christians need to understand that our protection, our peace, our joy doesn't come from the money that's in the bank, the credit score, it doesn't come from any of that.
00:32:21.680 --> 00:32:23.759
It comes from God Himself.
00:32:24.480 --> 00:32:35.599
And so it's not that we need no danger to feel safe, it's that we have God, so therefore, regardless of what's happening around us, we are safe in Him.
00:32:38.480 --> 00:33:30.240
00:33:33.279 --> 00:33:37.359
I will talk to you again on Friday until then.
