Speaker 2: Okay, and we are back. How's it going, bro? How you feeling?
Speaker 1: Couldn't be better, couldn't be better, can't complain. How about yourself?
Speaker 2: feeling pretty good, you know, even though the weather isn't really where it should be, I'm still pushing through. Now today, or I should say the month seems like a very good year for us because you know, obviously Black History Month. Now I myself, I don't think we need a set holiday, but if they were, or if I really wanted a Black History Month, I would prefer it be in the summer. Cause then that's just where we kind of kill it. We kind of just do a lot during that time, but hey, I'ma just not complain on that. but I wanna know your thoughts on one, who's your favorite black anime character, and two, what's your favorite romance anime?
Speaker 1: Hmm, my favorite black anime character. That's a good one, bro. That's a good one. I think we'll probably have to be, I don't know. There's so many that I've seen so far now that I have so much to choose from. I didn't have that much to choose from back in the day growing up. So I'll definitely go with one from back in the day then. I'll say Jet from Cowboy Bebop.
Speaker 2: That's a good one.
Speaker 1: He's one of the supporting characters for Cowboy Beatbop. And I think I liked his intellectual mind and the fact that he was navigator for the whole team. He just was so knowledgeable on everything. And yeah, I think I'll say that. How about you, bro?
Speaker 2: Okay, since you're bringing it old school, I'm gonna add something new so that white people know. we got a pretz love, like, taste. So I'm gonna choose Charon from Fire Force. I think I said his name right. But this is the dude that is in the Evangelist group and he absorbs kinetic energy and spits it back out. Like, when this
Speaker 1: saw this dude.
Speaker 2: dude fights Shima for the first time, I'm like, yo, he's really reppin'. And then he saved everybody and destroyed part of the moon like Piccolo? I'm like... They're doing him right.
Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. That's the one with the blindfold, right? Here,
Speaker 2: Yep, CEO you already know.
Speaker 1: bro. I was gonna choose him, but I was like, I forgot his name, so I'm gonna just go with somebody from back in the day to
Speaker 2: I ain't gonna hold you. I Googled him real quick because we've been watching him for so long. I can't keep up with these names, man. I ain't gonna hold
Speaker 1: Nah, but going back to your second question, I think my best romance anime will probably have to be, this is also a good one. I'm not drawing blanks, but I'm like trying to sift through all the ones that I've watched over time and see which one kind of like appeals to me the most. You really do good questions.
Speaker 2: We some.
Speaker 1: I think I'll say maybe like Fruit's Basket is not particularly genre. as a romance novel, I mean a romance anime, but it has so much romance applications that you kind of like can't ignore that. So yeah, Fruits Basket, that's a good one. How about you, bro? Yeah.
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's such a good take because like when you think about it, the anime that isn't specifically in that category, but you could still see it as such, that's definitely a dub. For me, I would say, I just had it in top of my head. I'm gonna say, Love is War. And I say that one because it's very relatable in this day and age because guys and girls are always stubborn about who should make the first move or. relinquishing power from one another. And as you're seeing this romantic comedy, it's kind of like, dang, I probably did this at one point in time in one of my relationships. And all it takes is for you to just be honest and be open with the person. And you could maybe even end up with each other, but you're just too stubborn. So that's why I've always liked the show. And then on top of that, the comedy was just tough.
Speaker 1: Okay, okay. That's a pretty good one. Love is war and fruit's basket. Nice.
Speaker 2: So check those out when you guys get the chance, but let us know in the comments what you guys think of your favorite black anime character and your favorite romance anime. Quick shout out to the Mangaka from Gotcha Okta because she made a video about who are the black characters in the series. Cause there's been a huge debate talking about certain characters aren't black, they're tan. She was like, nah, this is my work. I'm telling you who's black and who is not. Like she's very open into creating representation because that's what she's about. That's what her, you know, successor, no, not successor. That's what her mentor was teaching her and she ended up creating a dope ass anime. So shout out to her.
Speaker 1: Okay, shut up.
Speaker 2: And I just want to let you know, um, just talking about news in general, on top of that, there's a new season of Baki Hanma coming out. Have you heard about that one bro?
Speaker 1: No, I didn't. That's a good one. Honestly, I wasn't even thinking about Baki for a long time, but you're saying they're coming out with a whole new season? What are you even gonna talk about?
Speaker 2: Exactly. So for those that don't know, the last season ended off with Baki and his father fighting, you know, trying to get his lip back from the previous season or the first season Baki ever had, which was called Baki the Grappler. I would recommend everybody check that out because this is when we see Baki when he was very young. The first episode he's already fighting 40 people, but this new season is about a samurai that was frozen over, think, hundred or thousands of years and He's being thought out. now just like Pickle, this is the world's best samurai, I believe. So this is what we're getting. And the posters look pretty cool. They look pretty dope. So I want to see what this entails for the characters. Like what's going to happen.
Speaker 1: That's a good take on the new season. I'm definitely interested in watching how they're to animate this and what type of fights they're going to add in here.
Speaker 2: Yeah. Cause if you guys seen the last one with Pickle, they really did their thing. Like it was just top tier storytelling, top tier explanations in history on fighting culture and just overall just straight up throwing hands. Now I got a question for you, bro. This is like a crazy scenario. So are you ready? Okay. Let's say you got a crazy healing factor. mean, better than Deadpool, better than the Hulk and Wolverine combined. Now you're locked in the room with Yujiro Hama, AKA the ogre. And every 10 seconds you survive, you get a million dollars. How long are you lasting in that before you say, I'm done.
Speaker 1: Hmm, I'll say 10 seconds, bro. I'm not even gonna lie because
Speaker 2: You sure? You got the ultimate healing effect there.
Speaker 1: Bro, even though you got ultimate healing, that doesn't negate the fact that you do not have ultimate note-feeling pain. You feel me? Like, I'ma always feel all the pain that I'm being inflicted upon and then heal. So that's even worse because I don't even get to die, right? I just become, I just agonize in pain. And if I can last 10 seconds, bro, I will be healed. and I'll be a million dollars richer. And honestly, I'm not greedy. I'm not too greedy. That's all I need, Because at the end of the day, you got to remember, the day got to end and the longer you in the ring with Yujo Ohama, long time.
Speaker 2: Long top, yeah. It is, yo, it is. And it's funny you say that because do you remember that movie from Dragon Ball, you know, Dragon Ball Super Hero where Gohan goes berserk mode?
Speaker 1: yeah, definitely.
Speaker 2: So that dude, I think it was Dr. Gero's, I guess, employee grandson, whatever the case, he showed us the fight between Trunks and King Cold and Frieza. And that was literally five to seven seconds. I'm like, dang. fight scenes really just be that short but because we're the audience it takes hours and stuff like that so you're definitely right on that and then another incident when Dragon Ball Super where Frieza was resurrected he had one of his minions keep getting I think regenerated after every loss so that's what you're expecting when going into a fight with Yujo Rohan.
Speaker 1: And don't even go for it for a whole minute if you really want the money, bro, because at the end of the day, you're probably gonna feel all that pain even after healing, because you can't heal internally.
Speaker 2: But you know what? I'm gonna be that stubborn one. I'm gonna survive the minute. Not survive the minute, but I'm gonna hold out, right? Because with this dude, I feel like he's definitely gonna take his time, but he's gonna be gruesome. He's gonna be all of these things, right? But if this is like guaranteed money and I know the day gotta end, I'm gonna just let it rock. I'm gonna just do whatever it is. I might even try to run around, hide, do whatever, but I'm gonna just get. as much as I can because this ass whooping, I gotta get something. One million to get my ass whooped by Yujurahama is just diabolical. mean, did you see what he did to his wife?
Speaker 1: Bro, yes, bro, but for 10 seconds, you're gonna be running around. You could run around for 10 seconds and probably only get hit once. You running around for 60 seconds, bro, for $6 million.
Speaker 2: gotta try at least. bro. Some guy, yeah.
Speaker 1: Yo, your medical expenses and your therapy sessions gonna cost you a good two million. So you probably only gonna leave out with four, I don't know. But hey, if you wanna stay for 60 seconds, be my guest. Try to get that six million. More power to you, brother.
Speaker 2: That's true, because taxes, therapy, so I gotta stay longer now. Now that you put this on to me, I gotta stay longer. I'm sorry, I gotta stay longer.
Speaker 1: You tweakin' bro, you tweakin'. Alright. I think you probably heard a guy hitting the head, bro.
Speaker 2: Probably, you know, he came through the screen and knocked me out a few times. I mean, this whole show talks about, you know, fighting imaginary people. So it just might have happened. Now this debate question I got for you, let me know in the comments what you guys think. Since I've been thinking about this for quite some time, but never really could wrap my head around who would win in a fight, right? This is a team versus team battle. You got team A, Ujirahama and his son, Bakke of course, but they got the eight gates, okay? And now we got team B, another father and son duo got Ryu and Akuma. But in this case, we got dark Ryu and Akuma Oni. And you know, those forms go crazy. So I want to know who do you think would win in this fight?
Speaker 1: Two on two, Yuzuri, his son, with Dark Rio and Akuma. Honestly, I Yuzuro and Baki, honestly, they just been fighting all their life that I really believe that they will be so good that they almost look like the same person. Despite the obvious, you know, physical attributes, Yuzuro being twice as tall as Baki, but... they're gonna be fighting like they're one person. And Duck Rio, he's elite, but I don't know if Akuma's gonna be able to, I guess, like be a good tag team partner, if that makes sense. So I don't know. I think Usua Tama got it. How about you, bro?
Speaker 2: Yeah, this is definitely, definitely a hard question because I'm still thinking about it myself. Cause I never seen them work together. Like for you and Akuma, it's just by themselves, like by themselves, they do damage. They're very dangerous people, but as a team, I don't know. And based off of their personalities, it just seems like that's going to be the reason why they lose. Not because of their strong, like, like not because of their technique or their strength, but simply because of the dynamic. we've seen Yuzuru and Baki. You know, have some sort of relationship where they can lock in together. And like you said, one person. And since they got that Yujirahama blood in them, I'm gonna call it like Saiyan blood in a sense where they're just that strong and that good at certain things. Like he calls himself the pinnacle of the human race. like, like I remember him talking about he has the ability to see weaknesses in somebody's body. Like he has no weaknesses of himself. Like he... really claims that to be him. He's like the Escanor or something like that, you know, but he really backs it up. So it's just so crazy. Like I can't imagine him losing, you know, but hey, we could be wrong, right? Let us know in the comments what you guys think. But the reason why we're talking about Baki is not just because the new season is coming out, but it's something that came across my feed a few weeks ago. And it was that people in Japan, Japan anime fans, I've been kind of noticing that us overseas only care about action or reforming, like things that don't have substance. And I'm like, that's completely not true. But then I started to think about how the average person consumes content, consumes art. And it's like me and you, bro, we're kind of like the outlier. So maybe it is true, but I want to let them know like, yo, even the stuff that has a lot of action, we can absorb it in ways that lets us. learn more about whatever it is that they're talking about. Like we don't mind the dialogue. We don't mind the history. We don't mind everything leading up to the fight because it makes it 10 times better. So I'm going just ask you a few things and you let me know your thoughts on what this whole thing's about. But what are your thoughts on what I just said too?
Speaker 1: think you make a pretty good point, but honestly, kind of like, was reading our segment, right? And it makes me think about all the animes that we've watched up until this point where they kind of like exhibited this very same thing. Right. You know, it kind of makes you like jump into a rabbit hole like, damn, where else did I see that? And is that like some type of a cliche sort of kind of to say like, does it like happen often in any other animes that we watch? I think that's something that we can really think about.
Speaker 2: That's definitely a good point too. You know, we kind of talked about on our pod recently about how JJK can be a little bit confusing and how people kept messaging you about the culling games, how that was confusing as well too. But then you have shows like Baki Hanma where they kind of spend a lot of time on the history of fighting and how certain moves are done and how to truly execute them. So it's like, when I see scenes like that, it kind of makes me appreciate the fighting a lot more. Does that make sense? Yeah.
Speaker 1: definitely understand where you're coming from with that.
Speaker 2: Like when I think about the action shows that kind of give off a lot of, you know, just straight fist fighting for me personally, I necessarily don't, you know, get off on them fighting, but like what that fight represents. So for example, in one of the scenes where it was, I think it was Japan or like the international fighters as well too, versus China. with like, I think over 4,000 years or something like that of kung fu during that underground tournament, it kind of got me thinking of like, how important it is to just understand not only yourself and what's required of that, you know? And seeing how fast these opponents adapt to their situations and adapt to their fighting because of what they know makes it interesting. And I think Those are the things people kind of glance over with. But what do you think?
Speaker 1: think you make a valid point. Honestly, when it comes to the JJK power system, it's really verbose, right? And a lot of people just... a lot of people just quick to enjoy the visual aspect of anime. And that's not what it's all about, right? Because literally, we had the Japanese complain that the Westerners loved episode four, I believe, because it has so much gore and blood. But they didn't really appreciate it. So there was like a discourse going back and forth that Japanese only disliked it because it didn't have fan service and little girls, you know, dancing around, prancing around. I'm like, that's a wild take, right? Yeah, they basically say, yeah, like blood too much. And yeah, I went under the belt and started describing their whole makeup, like quote unquote makeup of how they interact in our animes overboard. That's. Like, just dragging it, to be honest. Honestly, I did feel like the episode with Maki Zenon was OD, but I saw why they went that route. Like, if people paid attention, that whole episode was a homage to what is more notably known around the world as Kill Bill. Because if you...
Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll talk about
Speaker 1: Bro, like, yeah, if you watch it, Maki's exhibiting the same aspect as the main character in Kill Bill exhibits. She went to Tokyo. She fought all the, you know, what they call them, henchmen.
Speaker 2: Yeah, the soldiers,
Speaker 1: All the henchmen, some of the stuff like that, and until the point that she was able to fight the big boss, which was her co-star, I believe, is Lucy Lu. All that was a homage, and if you did not, see that and that's okay, which I'm pretty sure the Japanese have not all watched Kill Bill. So I can understand where their take is coming from, right? However, the Westerners, us Westerners saying that what we say, I'm not even going to repeat it again, because it's crazy. saying what we said is beyond like crazy, right? Like it's pretty wild that you really got to like pause and then reflect about how Defensive we've just got in terms of getting constructive critique from a next party like that's really crazy and to go back to the power system It can get confusing. It's fine But there are avenues where people can explain it to the point where you start to understand and if you continue watching it You will understand right because it's not like they explain it once and then they just keep going right they explain it once as a whole and then over time they keep adding to what they explained, right? And then they do like the space repetition for you to understand where they bring it back up and let you know, like, you're not gonna see it right now, but you know, you're still in the early episodes, right, of the season. So like be patient and then just, you know, have an open mind. I've said this time and time again, and I'll say it one more time. So that's the whole makeup of the power system. But for like, You're basically telling me about the power system in terms of, Baki's fights with the praying mantis, right? So with that, the praying mantis is, I honestly felt like that was like great writing. Like all the episodes up until that point felt, you know, like, you know, regular fight, boxing history, maybe some karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, whatever. Like it felt okay, decent. you know, things I've already heard before. Prey Mantis theme is what took the cake because at the end of the day, we know about Prey Mantises, but we're so huge that we don't really see them as, you know, threats, trouble as threats as issues. But in their domain, in their world, they are literally in the top of, you know, food chain. in their circle. So for them to equate a praying mantis to a fighting style, I thought that was like Chef's Kiss. Like that was good writing and you can actually understand that type of leveling system, right? That type of level that you're fighting, you're exhibiting the fighting style of a praying mantis because if we don't know, if any of y'all don't know about praying mantises, they have an ability to basically overpower insects that are twice its size. And they do that in a way that is a very unique type of fighting skill. Like it's not karate, it's not taekwondo, it's nothing. Like it's their own fighting style. And to think that that is a insect, creation that can adapt to its environment and find a way to defend itself, that's kind of crazy, man. Like that's really crazy. It really-
Speaker 2: And I'm glad you said that because when we look back at that show, it's kind of like, it's not just fighting, but just understanding oneself. Like you have to go beyond regular thinking if you truly want to overcome whatever it is that you're overcoming. Because he sensed that the fight with his father is coming up. And since he's basically the strongest being animal out here in the world, I need to understand like, where do I stack? Right? and kind of visualizing that praying mantis, the other types of animals and seeing if I could defeat them, that kind of like lets me know, okay, this is where I'm at. And the fact that he's able to manifest that, physically manifest that and have other people see that, that's like another level of fighting prowess. You just got to give it to him. Kind of like back when we saw Ragnarok, or that dude, I forgot his name, but he was like a swordsman. And in his previous life, every time he would lose, He would mentally train that same person until he surpassed them. That is exactly how people should, what's the right word I'm looking for? That's how people should be disciplined in whatever craft that they're trying to do. Constantly visualize it, constantly put themselves through the wringer. So when that time comes, they kind of know it inside and out. I mean, that's how Frieza survived in hell throughout all this time by perfecting his technique mentally. That's all it is. And it's like these action animes provide that look where it's just like, this is what it's like to truly master oneself. And we see that time and time again with Baki with all these different characters. mean, sure, they're big, they got muscles, they do all these crazy things, but their devotion to what they're doing is just insane. I mean, there was this one time this dude broke the glass just by placing his palm on it. Like that's just insane. And all he did was just absorb the oxygen. from that particular area like that requires so much dedication and understanding of your environment to just execute that. Like, could you imagine thinking of something like that while you're in solitude?
Speaker 1: I couldn't even imagine having a sane thought in my mind while in solitude.
Speaker 2: For real, like it's just so insane, like how these Baki characters think and strive to try to become the strongest. So this show, that's why I've always been so attracted to the show is because these characters strive to crazy excellence and back and, know, and I'm going back to that whole imagination thing. That's what Baki had to do. Cause when he was about to fight Pickle, Pickle is, I don't think he's human, right? He's something of this world where it's kind of like, He's just a beast in general, where it's like he has the appearance of a man, but the biology of some sort of prehistoric beast, his, his bite, his stance, the way he attacks, like every person he fought, everybody realized like, yo, I can't fight this dude as if it's another person because his bones are denser. His flexibility is something unreal. Like it's these things you have to think of. And when you start imagining fighting a praying mantis, a bear, an eagle. That's when you start to understand, like, there's more to strength than just physical and size.
Speaker 1: have said it better myself, the thing about the praying mantis is that it was adopted by Chinese Kung Fu martial arts. Talk about it. It just goes to show like, you you can really gain a lot of these skills just by experiencing nature. Like, for real. nature, you know that, wait, this praying mantis is overtaking a lot of its, its predators and surviving. Let's try to match its fighting style and see how we can adapt it into our own way of life.
Speaker 2: the ending of the previous season of Baki, like not the new one that's coming out, but like the previous one that just finished and everything like that. basically all Baki wanted was for his father to cook a meal for him. Now for those that don't know the lore or history behind that, it's like imagine telling Eskenor what to do. That's basically what Baki wanted from his father, somebody that only does what he wants to do. So during this whole, will they fight? Won't they fight? Then they started fighting. It's pretty interesting how even though Baki lost that fight, he still made his father cook food for him. Like, I think it was at the end where he, his spirit, like his little manifestation was fighting his father and the father was like, you did good Baki, I'm done. Like this was a good fight. You won in a sense. So he walked up to Baki, sat down, and then he just started cooking imaginary food for him. So he technically won. And I think the audience was like, Baki beat his dad, but Ujahama is still the strongest. And it's like, we don't really see that much in fighting where you get what you want, even though you don't win the battle. Usually in other fighting shows, it's like the person who wins the fight gets their way. Like, especially in Naruto, like after the war ended, Sasuke and Naruto through the fades and it was like if Sasuke wins, Sasuke gets his way. It's not like Naruto still gets behind Okage even though I lost to Sasuke. Nah, it's either Naruto wins or Sasuke wins, but this one was pretty good.
Speaker 1: Yeah, I definitely get what you mean, but I think it was more deeper than that, It's mostly like Baku may have lost the fight, right? But he won the war and gaining the attention from his father, right? Right. So it kind of like worked both ways for them because one he had to lose, but in a way that He lost with a sense of pride that he built his way up to even be in the ring with his pops, right? Yeah. And he lost in the same aspect that any child would lose to their parent where he kind of conceded. But at the end of the day, parental to child connection won. So that's why he made that imaginary meal for him. So like, that's how I kind of saw it. So like, you know, people were like, oh, he lost, he shouldn't even get anything. But I'm like, that's his whole seed. Like,
Speaker 2: speed.
Speaker 1: that's his whole seed, bro. Like, he
Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1: basically shedded some of his animalistic characteristics to be a little bit more paternal. So that's what I saw. It was good. It was a good write-in. I definitely enjoyed it, for sure.
Speaker 2: Yeah. Cause when we look back at the first season, I think it was Bakke the grappler, like what I was telling you, their first fight, it just seemed like I want revenge, I want to beat you. I want to get noticed by you. All these things where it's like, I want your approval. So I'm going to just do whatever it takes. Even though I am strong, I beat my stepbrother and all this stuff, but it just wasn't it. This time it kind of seemed right because Bakke found himself in that process, like it wasn't about getting stronger or mastering some sort of technique, but just showing his dad like, yo, I don't care if you're the strongest, I'm going to get you to respect me, love me, and show me consideration by showing you that I can stand up to you. Even if I'm on the ground, I'ma still stand up to you. And that was just pretty insane to me. Like Baki's just one of those characters where it's just like, he's very much. I want to say aloof, but there's probably a better word where it's kind of like he's above all that superficial stuff.
Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely agree with that.
Speaker 2: And as of right now, this wraps up this pod. So comment down below what you guys think about action animes where there's a lot of fighting, but there's definitely lore towards it. Who do you think will win a fight between the two father and son duos? And how long would you last in a fight with Yujo Hanma? Every 10 seconds you get a million dollars. I know I'm crazy thinking I can last a minute, but hey, I got to leave with something, something a lot more. to pay for my mental, my mental institution. Yeah. Any
Speaker 1: I don't know, you
Speaker 2: final thoughts?
Speaker 1: get that six million and then try to live your life. But I don't know, I'll be better off with that million dollars. But for last notes, we have some anime news coming in. JJK is getting even better. If you haven't been watching,
Speaker 2: It's emvely-
Speaker 1: yeah, if you haven't been watching the latest season, please do your due diligence and go and watch it, bro. Like it's getting so good. and the animation is up there, maybe rivaling Demon Slayer. On another note, on another note, I just finished up ReZero. So we're gonna have a bit to talk about on terms of ReZero, adding that to the Isekai list.
Speaker 2: Yep, cause they're dropping a new season too, so...
Speaker 1: They're dropping a new season, yep. So I'm all caught up with that. Another one, bro. Fans are calling for a Soul Eater reboot. Now that Fire Force is ending, a lot of the fans are wanting for Soul Eater to get a reboot. So, you know, the next generation that's been hooked on anime and, you know, the new folks that are watching anime now can enjoy some of what we used to like and, you know. with more so modern techniques and modern animation.
Speaker 2: Exactly. If you love Gotcha Octa, if you love Fire Force, you're gonna love Soul Eater. You know, there was just so much funniness, seriousness. The story was good. Many people didn't like the ending, but overall, you gotta admit like this was a good show to watch.
Speaker 1: It definitely was. And for people that don't know, Soul Eater is in the same universe as Fire Force. So that's a little key nugget to take in. if this reboot actually happens, the fans won, honestly. But, um, for Yeah, bro. So two more announcements. Witch Hat Atelier anime is coming out. And lastly, Netflix and Mapa are gearing up for a partnership with multiple projects rolling out. They didn't say what year, didn't say when, but... Expect Netflix to do with a studio Moppa insignia coming to you soon
Speaker 2: that's gonna be clean. Watch. Catch you guys later.
Speaker 1: That's a fact, The pace.
