Last episode we felt we barely scratched the surface of what it means to be a human in a body. For decades, psychologists, physical therapists, and other researchers have asked the question, "How does the mind show up in the body?" This episode we walk through one of Aliceanne's favorite models for how our early life development shapes our physical body and our psychological response to life: Bodynamics.
Founded in the 1970's and 80's by Denmark psychotherapist and physical therapist Lisbeth Marcher noticed not all stress causes people to contract their muscles. Some people's reactions are the opposite: they surrender and lose their energy, and this manifests in the body in predictable, measurable ways. So, if you've ever wondered why a chronically tight muscle will not relax no matter how many massages you get this episode is for you. Everything from feeling our throat close during a meeting, to having difficulty identifying what we might need or want, to feeling as though we have to fight for everything we have. It all has its roots in the body, and somewhere in our psychological development early in life.
