Ready Player 2 - Solid Group of Misfits

1
01:00:00,033 --> 01:00:05,833
(Music)

2
01:00:10,099 --> 01:00:12,066
Hi everybody, I'm gonna say welcome back.

3
01:00:12,633 --> 01:00:14,800
But, because most of you won't remember who we

4
01:00:14,800 --> 01:00:16,666
are, and in some occasions I haven't remembered

5
01:00:16,666 --> 01:00:19,133
who most of these people are, we used to be

6
01:00:19,133 --> 01:00:20,500
known as Ready Player 2.

7
01:00:20,599 --> 01:00:22,566
Now, for reasons that I can't fathom,

8
01:00:22,966 --> 01:00:23,966
apparently we're known as

9
01:00:23,966 --> 01:00:25,199
Ready Player 2 Continue.

10
01:00:25,733 --> 01:00:27,433
That's important because there is a question

11
01:00:27,433 --> 01:00:31,033
mark at the end of that, which will be

12
01:00:31,033 --> 01:00:32,966
evidence, apparently, when this gets posted

13
01:00:32,966 --> 01:00:34,566
online, because you'll see the question mark.

14
01:00:34,833 --> 01:00:36,400
But in order to emphasize it, I have to say it

15
01:00:36,400 --> 01:00:37,199
in such a way that makes me

16
01:00:37,199 --> 01:00:38,500
sound like an absolute prat.

17
01:00:39,599 --> 01:00:43,300
We used to do a podcast many, many years ago,

18
01:00:43,300 --> 01:00:44,333
when people were running on

19
01:00:44,333 --> 01:00:46,166
Windows 7, and some people still are.

20
01:00:46,533 --> 01:00:49,400
But now, now we're back, because we've got

21
01:00:49,400 --> 01:00:51,033
interesting and fun things to talk about,

22
01:00:51,033 --> 01:00:52,800
apparently, not that I've thought of any.

23
01:00:52,800 --> 01:00:53,566
My name is Rich.

24
01:00:54,266 --> 01:00:56,966
And we all used to get

25
01:00:56,966 --> 01:00:58,900
together and talk absolute nonsense.

26
01:01:00,599 --> 01:01:03,233
Ross was our producer back in the day, and I

27
01:01:03,233 --> 01:01:05,033
presume he's going to be the producer now, and

28
01:01:05,033 --> 01:01:05,933
he also used to talk

29
01:01:05,933 --> 01:01:07,066
nonsense about bald things.

30
01:01:07,066 --> 01:01:07,800
How are you doing, Ross?

31
01:01:08,033 --> 01:01:09,033
Yeah, I'm very good, mate.

32
01:01:09,033 --> 01:01:09,900
Nice to hear your voice again.

33
01:01:11,233 --> 01:01:12,400
It's lovely to hear your voice.

34
01:01:12,966 --> 01:01:16,300
We also have Elle.

35
01:01:16,300 --> 01:01:16,933
There she is.

36
01:01:17,866 --> 01:01:18,366
There she is.

37
01:01:18,933 --> 01:01:19,966
You had to turn around.

38
01:01:19,966 --> 01:01:20,766
She left you on your corner.

39
01:01:21,333 --> 01:01:22,333
Oh, boy.

40
01:01:22,633 --> 01:01:23,566
Are we still connected?

41
01:01:24,633 --> 01:01:26,633
I was a personality hire.

42
01:01:31,133 --> 01:01:33,633
Elle is our resident horror enthusiast.

43
01:01:34,266 --> 01:01:34,699
Is that the right?

44
01:01:34,699 --> 01:01:35,533
Yeah, you can say that.

45
01:01:35,533 --> 01:01:36,666
Yeah, okay, I could say that.

46
01:01:36,666 --> 01:01:37,300
And I will say that.

47
01:01:37,300 --> 01:01:38,866
I did say that, and it can't be edited now.

48
01:01:39,233 --> 01:01:42,766
And we also have, now, our resident celebrity.

49
01:01:43,766 --> 01:01:46,366
You all know him, and some of you love him.

50
01:01:46,766 --> 01:01:47,333
It's Lee.

51
01:01:49,366 --> 01:01:49,766
Oh, me!

52
01:01:50,166 --> 01:01:50,233
Mr.

53
01:01:50,233 --> 01:01:50,533
Bixar.

54
01:01:50,533 --> 01:01:51,566
Yes, you, Lee.

55
01:01:52,000 --> 01:01:52,333
Yeah.

56
01:01:52,933 --> 01:01:54,333
That's not fair.

57
01:01:55,266 --> 01:01:55,466
Why?

58
01:01:56,966 --> 01:01:58,333
I want to be just the resident

59
01:01:58,333 --> 01:01:59,966
old person like I used to be.

60
01:01:59,966 --> 01:02:00,933
Can I just go back to that?

61
01:02:01,233 --> 01:02:03,066
No, because now you're YouTube famous.

62
01:02:03,666 --> 01:02:05,466
Yeah, we're running your coattails, aren't we?

63
01:02:06,633 --> 01:02:06,900
Yeah.

64
01:02:07,266 --> 01:02:08,966
I'm not telling anyone from any

65
01:02:08,966 --> 01:02:10,333
of my followers I'm doing this.

66
01:02:10,566 --> 01:02:11,066
Well, that's not.

67
01:02:11,366 --> 01:02:13,166
Well, I'll tell my 400 followers, and maybe

68
01:02:13,166 --> 01:02:14,333
some of them are still alive.

69
01:02:14,333 --> 01:02:14,833
Let me do it again.

70
01:02:14,833 --> 01:02:15,033
Hang on.

71
01:02:15,033 --> 01:02:15,933
Let me kick him off this video.

72
01:02:17,500 --> 01:02:19,433
No, don't click buttons, Ross.

73
01:02:19,866 --> 01:02:21,266
We've already had enough problems.

74
01:02:22,166 --> 01:02:23,900
You're not allowed to computer anymore.

75
01:02:24,433 --> 01:02:24,633
Right.

76
01:02:25,333 --> 01:02:27,233
So, look, I don't really understand how this is

77
01:02:27,233 --> 01:02:29,199
going to go, but a long, long time ago in a

78
01:02:29,199 --> 01:02:31,099
computer far, far away, or the same one that

79
01:02:31,099 --> 01:02:32,533
Ross is still using, we started a podcast.

80
01:02:32,733 --> 01:02:35,233
This was back in 2013, and we started talking

81
01:02:35,233 --> 01:02:36,133
about all sorts of nonsense.

82
01:02:36,400 --> 01:02:39,333
We gained some hosts, and we lost some hosts,

83
01:02:39,333 --> 01:02:41,166
and we experimented with other hosts that we

84
01:02:41,166 --> 01:02:41,966
don't want to talk about.

85
01:02:42,266 --> 01:02:45,033
And at the end, we ended up with this solid

86
01:02:45,033 --> 01:02:47,966
group of misfits that we have before us today.

87
01:02:48,333 --> 01:02:49,400
We used to get together and

88
01:02:49,400 --> 01:02:50,633
talk about absolute garbage.

89
01:02:50,633 --> 01:02:52,266
We didn't have any structured format.

90
01:02:52,266 --> 01:02:53,366
It always came across an

91
01:02:53,366 --> 01:02:54,966
incredibly polished, as you can imagine.

92
01:02:55,766 --> 01:02:59,833
We don't actually talk as much as we used to,

93
01:03:00,066 --> 01:03:01,466
which is terrible and awful.

94
01:03:01,466 --> 01:03:03,099
And since the world is in such a terrible and

95
01:03:03,099 --> 01:03:04,066
awful place, we needed a

96
01:03:04,066 --> 01:03:04,866
little bit of brightness.

97
01:03:04,866 --> 01:03:05,500
And if anybody else

98
01:03:05,500 --> 01:03:07,033
listens to this, then great.

99
01:03:07,033 --> 01:03:08,366
I hope you get a little bit of brightness too.

100
01:03:08,699 --> 01:03:10,300
But if they don't, then fuck you, to be

101
01:03:10,300 --> 01:03:11,033
perfectly honest, because

102
01:03:11,033 --> 01:03:12,000
I'm going to have a good time.

103
01:03:12,000 --> 01:03:12,733
Change my mates.

104
01:03:13,733 --> 01:03:17,166
That's not my message you got the other day.

105
01:03:17,666 --> 01:03:21,333
I was scrolling through Instagram reels, and I

106
01:03:21,333 --> 01:03:23,633
came across one of mine else

107
01:03:23,633 --> 01:03:25,233
big love Guy Fieri at Flavortown.

108
01:03:26,066 --> 01:03:30,033
And there's this big, there's a conspiracy that

109
01:03:30,033 --> 01:03:30,666
he never actually

110
01:03:30,666 --> 01:03:31,866
swallows the food on the program.

111
01:03:33,066 --> 01:03:35,966
And I remember many, many, many times for El's

112
01:03:35,966 --> 01:03:36,900
birthday, I bought her a

113
01:03:36,900 --> 01:03:38,066
lock of Guy Fieri's hair.

114
01:03:38,333 --> 01:03:40,133
Well, she owns a piece of that man's hair.

115
01:03:40,766 --> 01:03:42,633
And a ticket to Flavortown.

116
01:03:43,166 --> 01:03:44,133
Can I just ask?

117
01:03:44,566 --> 01:03:48,666
How did the myth of him not eating the food?

118
01:03:49,666 --> 01:03:51,066
And you having how were they linked?

119
01:03:51,400 --> 01:03:52,333
How there was a lock of hair

120
01:03:52,333 --> 01:03:53,633
and him not eating the food?

121
01:03:54,033 --> 01:03:54,933
How did we say love?

122
01:03:56,033 --> 01:03:57,400
It was just a okay.

123
01:03:57,500 --> 01:04:00,199
I fall asleep to Guy Fieri every night.

124
01:04:00,900 --> 01:04:02,099
What was the headline on the sheet?

125
01:04:02,466 --> 01:04:04,300
He doesn't swallow or he

126
01:04:04,300 --> 01:04:05,433
never swallows the food.

127
01:04:05,433 --> 01:04:06,933
It cuts every single time

128
01:04:06,933 --> 01:04:09,033
before he's before he swallows.

129
01:04:09,333 --> 01:04:10,533
Yeah, he's like, He's not gonna.

130
01:04:10,866 --> 01:04:11,366
He's not gonna.

131
01:04:13,099 --> 01:04:14,900
And then it cuts away to like a

132
01:04:14,900 --> 01:04:16,366
shot of the food on the plate.

133
01:04:17,033 --> 01:04:18,466
And then it cuts back to him being like,

134
01:04:19,599 --> 01:04:22,833
And then that led to you messaging us.

135
01:04:23,199 --> 01:04:24,666
I sent that to El and then yeah,

136
01:04:25,966 --> 01:04:27,633
does that send a message to our Facebook long

137
01:04:27,633 --> 01:04:29,566
dead Facebook chat, which Rich

138
01:04:29,566 --> 01:04:31,000
had to log back into Facebook.

139
01:04:33,033 --> 01:04:33,933
I had to figure out.

140
01:04:33,933 --> 01:04:34,233
Facebook anymore.

141
01:04:34,699 --> 01:04:34,866
I do.

142
01:04:34,900 --> 01:04:40,699
I had to catch it with Lee saying very mid

143
01:04:40,699 --> 01:04:43,366
January from the 14th of January 2024.

144
01:04:46,599 --> 01:04:48,599
I had to catch it with the way you do it.

145
01:04:49,166 --> 01:04:49,966
I had to use it.

146
01:04:51,233 --> 01:04:52,166
I was on chat.

147
01:04:52,166 --> 01:04:54,033
JPT just messing around asking about some of

148
01:04:54,033 --> 01:04:54,933
the podcasts that I do.

149
01:04:55,466 --> 01:04:56,833
And I thought, well, put Ready Player 2 in like

150
01:04:56,833 --> 01:04:58,233
it still exists on the internet somewhere.

151
01:04:59,000 --> 01:04:59,733
And yeah, it gave us a

152
01:04:59,733 --> 01:05:01,166
rundown of what Ready Player 2 was.

153
01:05:01,233 --> 01:05:05,133
And the headline for it is this podcast feels

154
01:05:05,133 --> 01:05:06,133
gloriously unpretentious.

155
01:05:07,566 --> 01:05:09,000
Like chat and TPT's biggest takeaway.

156
01:05:09,733 --> 01:05:11,199
So I'm pretty accurate to be fair.

157
01:05:13,000 --> 01:05:14,333
They're gloriously unpretentious.

158
01:05:15,733 --> 01:05:18,233
Meaning, absolutely inscripted and nobody

159
01:05:18,233 --> 01:05:19,266
including the hosts had

160
01:05:19,266 --> 01:05:20,466
any idea what was going on.

161
01:05:21,033 --> 01:05:22,033
I've got that on a t-shirt.

162
01:05:22,866 --> 01:05:23,833
Gloriously unpretentious.

163
01:05:24,800 --> 01:05:25,366
No.

164
01:05:25,866 --> 01:05:26,066
Really?

165
01:05:26,533 --> 01:05:26,833
No.

166
01:05:27,933 --> 01:05:28,333
Me.

167
01:05:28,833 --> 01:05:30,266
I was excited then.

168
01:05:31,433 --> 01:05:33,033
I'm being reprinted now.

169
01:05:34,033 --> 01:05:34,233
Sick.

170
01:05:35,566 --> 01:05:36,699
So we all got together.

171
01:05:37,000 --> 01:05:38,066
We I had to figure out how

172
01:05:38,066 --> 01:05:39,599
to use Facebook, which I did.

173
01:05:39,599 --> 01:05:40,333
I'm very proud of myself.

174
01:05:40,833 --> 01:05:42,933
And now I never want to see it ever again.

175
01:05:43,566 --> 01:05:44,733
What have you been doing?

176
01:05:45,000 --> 01:05:45,933
I know what Lee's been doing.

177
01:05:45,933 --> 01:05:46,566
We'll talk about what

178
01:05:46,566 --> 01:05:47,533
Lee's been doing in a minute.

179
01:05:47,533 --> 01:05:48,866
If you want to see what Lee's been doing, you

180
01:05:48,866 --> 01:05:49,833
just need to look him up.

181
01:05:50,333 --> 01:05:51,900
Just need to Google him to be perfectly honest.

182
01:05:52,233 --> 01:05:53,033
Just Google Lee.

183
01:05:55,599 --> 01:05:57,833
He's the most famously you're

184
01:05:57,833 --> 01:05:59,133
likely to find on the internet.

185
01:06:01,833 --> 01:06:02,233
Go on.

186
01:06:02,233 --> 01:06:03,133
I'm going to start with Lee.

187
01:06:03,566 --> 01:06:04,599
Let's just get out of the way.

188
01:06:04,766 --> 01:06:05,566
Do you know what?

189
01:06:06,966 --> 01:06:08,266
If we're going to stand on the shoulders of

190
01:06:08,266 --> 01:06:10,066
giants, we may as well talk to them.

191
01:06:11,300 --> 01:06:15,333
Have you been doing Lee?

192
01:06:15,333 --> 01:06:16,300
What have you been up to?

193
01:06:17,366 --> 01:06:20,166
What in the last three years or?

194
01:06:22,599 --> 01:06:23,866
Just read, you know, start at age

195
01:06:23,866 --> 01:06:25,599
one and we'll work our way forwards.

196
01:06:26,566 --> 01:06:27,933
That's a long story.

197
01:06:28,166 --> 01:06:29,099
You finished nine with me.

198
01:06:29,933 --> 01:06:30,866
Just hit the highlights.

199
01:06:31,066 --> 01:06:32,266
It should only take five minutes.

200
01:06:34,133 --> 01:06:37,166
Well, off of the back of being a host with

201
01:06:37,166 --> 01:06:39,199
Ready Player Two all that time ago,

202
01:06:40,266 --> 01:06:42,933
I think there are various things

203
01:06:42,933 --> 01:06:46,000
that fed me into being a YouTuber.

204
01:06:46,666 --> 01:06:48,066
But that was definitely one of them.

205
01:06:48,066 --> 01:06:49,466
It was one of the things that gave me the

206
01:06:49,466 --> 01:06:51,133
confidence to actually turn the camera on,

207
01:06:51,133 --> 01:06:53,566
especially turn the camera on my face and

208
01:06:53,566 --> 01:06:57,166
actually talk to people through a microphone.

209
01:06:57,933 --> 01:06:59,900
He was just like, these fucking idiots could be

210
01:06:59,900 --> 01:07:00,733
doing it for this long.

211
01:07:00,733 --> 01:07:01,333
Anybody can do it.

212
01:07:01,333 --> 01:07:01,833
Exactly.

213
01:07:02,966 --> 01:07:04,166
It must be easy.

214
01:07:04,666 --> 01:07:05,933
And yeah, it's pretty good.

215
01:07:06,333 --> 01:07:06,966
I'm enjoying myself.

216
01:07:07,199 --> 01:07:07,666
I'm having fun.

217
01:07:08,500 --> 01:07:09,966
I think a lot of other people are enjoying what

218
01:07:09,966 --> 01:07:11,566
you're doing as well, to be perfectly honest,

219
01:07:11,566 --> 01:07:13,166
looking at your channels and looking at your

220
01:07:13,166 --> 01:07:14,233
subscriber numbers and the

221
01:07:14,233 --> 01:07:15,533
amount of engagement you get.

222
01:07:15,533 --> 01:07:16,233
I think everything seems

223
01:07:16,233 --> 01:07:17,233
to be going extremely well.

224
01:07:17,766 --> 01:07:18,866
It's going very well.

225
01:07:18,866 --> 01:07:21,433
And I've just come back from a weekend away at

226
01:07:21,433 --> 01:07:23,900
Retro Fest, which was an event held in a

227
01:07:24,866 --> 01:07:27,966
railway museum called Steam in Swindon.

228
01:07:29,733 --> 01:07:31,633
When we went there, the first event was last

229
01:07:31,633 --> 01:07:32,699
year and I attended that one.

230
01:07:32,699 --> 01:07:33,333
It was fantastic.

231
01:07:33,566 --> 01:07:36,133
And I did, again, this year as an exhibit of

232
01:07:36,133 --> 01:07:38,833
both years with a group of

233
01:07:38,833 --> 01:07:40,433
YouTubers called the Big Red Arrow Club.

234
01:07:40,766 --> 01:07:43,266
We just had such a good time.

235
01:07:43,766 --> 01:07:46,933
It's so nice because when you do YouTube

236
01:07:46,933 --> 01:07:48,300
videos, you just get to talk

237
01:07:48,300 --> 01:07:49,500
to a camera most of the time.

238
01:07:49,500 --> 01:07:51,633
So this is why one of the reasons that I agreed

239
01:07:51,633 --> 01:07:53,233
to do this is so that I

240
01:07:53,233 --> 01:07:54,033
could talk to real people.

241
01:07:54,366 --> 01:07:55,000
You are real people.

242
01:07:56,699 --> 01:07:57,966
Sorry, just stop there a second.

243
01:07:58,466 --> 01:08:00,599
One of the reasons I agree to do this is

244
01:08:00,599 --> 01:08:02,400
because I was like, not because we're fantastic

245
01:08:02,400 --> 01:08:04,933
people and you miss catching up with us, right?

246
01:08:05,166 --> 01:08:06,933
Just I'm just a bit lonely.

247
01:08:07,633 --> 01:08:09,333
You're fed up with all this fame all by myself.

248
01:08:09,533 --> 01:08:11,099
I'll just talk to some of the people.

249
01:08:11,566 --> 01:08:12,533
Scraping dogs at the barrel of that.

250
01:08:12,533 --> 01:08:13,366
Is that effectively what you're saying?

251
01:08:15,533 --> 01:08:16,533
No one else wants to be around here.

252
01:08:16,533 --> 01:08:17,633
You said that you didn't want to talk about

253
01:08:17,633 --> 01:08:18,399
what you've been doing.

254
01:08:18,399 --> 01:08:20,033
And now that it started, unfortunately, you're

255
01:08:20,033 --> 01:08:20,833
going to be the rib of jokes.

256
01:08:21,366 --> 01:08:23,066
Because a lot is going to be, I would imagine

257
01:08:23,066 --> 01:08:25,533
there's going to be people that watch this at

258
01:08:25,533 --> 01:08:27,966
some point who know you very well by now and

259
01:08:27,966 --> 01:08:29,399
have seen the stuff that you do.

260
01:08:30,066 --> 01:08:31,633
This is a complete change.

261
01:08:33,133 --> 01:08:34,066
What are you saying?

262
01:08:35,199 --> 01:08:36,533
No, I was just saying, I hope not.

263
01:08:38,333 --> 01:08:39,933
There's no cross promotion for us guys.

264
01:08:39,933 --> 01:08:40,533
The dream's over.

265
01:08:40,533 --> 01:08:41,500
You might as well kick him out now.

266
01:08:43,033 --> 01:08:43,666
It's fine.

267
01:08:45,666 --> 01:08:47,466
Back then, back when we were doing the podcast

268
01:08:47,466 --> 01:08:49,600
before, everything was

269
01:08:49,600 --> 01:08:51,699
very much about recent games.

270
01:08:52,333 --> 01:08:53,633
I was the VR guy.

271
01:08:53,833 --> 01:08:55,166
I was about the future.

272
01:08:55,666 --> 01:08:57,199
You were all about the future.

273
01:08:57,566 --> 01:08:59,366
He was telling everybody,

274
01:08:59,366 --> 01:09:00,800
it's not like 3D TVs, guys.

275
01:09:01,100 --> 01:09:02,300
This is world changing.

276
01:09:02,566 --> 01:09:03,633
This is not going to peter out.

277
01:09:03,666 --> 01:09:05,100
This is not going to peter out

278
01:09:05,100 --> 01:09:06,399
and flatten into nothingness.

279
01:09:06,399 --> 01:09:07,866
Trust me, this is the new thing.

280
01:09:08,399 --> 01:09:10,866
And then clearly that went so well that he just

281
01:09:10,866 --> 01:09:12,833
decided to start looking backwards instead.

282
01:09:13,266 --> 01:09:14,966
So far backwards, in fact, the half that shit

283
01:09:14,966 --> 01:09:16,333
don't work and he's got to fix it.

284
01:09:17,866 --> 01:09:19,199
That's the best thing about it, actually.

285
01:09:20,233 --> 01:09:23,433
My struggle is going to be doing a podcast

286
01:09:23,433 --> 01:09:26,199
about playing games, is actually playing games

287
01:09:26,199 --> 01:09:28,399
because over the last, what is it?

288
01:09:28,566 --> 01:09:30,366
It is four years since we

289
01:09:30,366 --> 01:09:31,966
actually released an episode.

290
01:09:32,600 --> 01:09:34,033
Over the last four years, I've

291
01:09:34,033 --> 01:09:35,766
probably played that many games.

292
01:09:36,566 --> 01:09:36,899
Four games?

293
01:09:37,533 --> 01:09:39,766
Is that because most restaurant games are shit?

294
01:09:40,066 --> 01:09:40,266
Yeah.

295
01:09:41,199 --> 01:09:41,633
I haven't been...

296
01:09:42,800 --> 01:09:45,533
No, I have to pay them to test the computer

297
01:09:45,533 --> 01:09:46,466
that I've just repaired.

298
01:09:47,033 --> 01:09:48,966
So technically I've played a

299
01:09:48,966 --> 01:09:50,399
bit of Jet Set Willy, but no.

300
01:09:51,399 --> 01:09:52,666
Retro games are the best games, Rich.

301
01:09:52,966 --> 01:09:53,300
You know this.

302
01:09:53,300 --> 01:09:53,666
Are the best.

303
01:09:54,866 --> 01:09:56,533
You can evidence that from all of the games

304
01:09:56,533 --> 01:09:57,666
that you played in the last four years and

305
01:09:57,666 --> 01:09:59,733
these retro systems that you've been fixing.

306
01:09:59,733 --> 01:09:59,933
Brilliant.

307
01:10:00,000 --> 01:10:00,466
Good, good, good.

308
01:10:00,566 --> 01:10:01,533
We'll get into that later.

309
01:10:02,466 --> 01:10:03,166
I can't wait.

310
01:10:04,500 --> 01:10:06,199
Elle.

311
01:10:08,133 --> 01:10:09,133
That's not going to get old.

312
01:10:10,233 --> 01:10:11,633
Sorry, it made you

313
01:10:11,633 --> 01:10:13,033
laugh, so I'm going to do it.

314
01:10:13,366 --> 01:10:13,899
Oh, God.

315
01:10:14,466 --> 01:10:17,433
I was just waiting for when she gets fed up

316
01:10:17,433 --> 01:10:18,833
with the conversation and slowly goes...

317
01:10:19,066 --> 01:10:19,833
Yeah, just disappears.

318
01:10:20,133 --> 01:10:20,699
I was trying to say.

319
01:10:21,033 --> 01:10:23,933
With one finger.

320
01:10:24,666 --> 01:10:26,866
How have you been doing?

321
01:10:26,866 --> 01:10:27,766
What have you been up to?

322
01:10:28,899 --> 01:10:31,899
I have been living the quiet and slightly

323
01:10:31,899 --> 01:10:34,333
disconcerting life of a Borg witch, I feel.

324
01:10:35,066 --> 01:10:36,666
Living out in the sticks, a

325
01:10:36,666 --> 01:10:37,966
menagerie of tiny creatures.

326
01:10:40,199 --> 01:10:40,466
Yeah.

327
01:10:42,233 --> 01:10:43,366
What have I been up to?

328
01:10:44,800 --> 01:10:48,133
So in lockdown, I think every weeknight, I was

329
01:10:48,133 --> 01:10:49,466
either playing in or

330
01:10:49,466 --> 01:10:51,866
running a virtual TTRPG campaign.

331
01:10:53,600 --> 01:10:56,666
And although Return to Office has me down to

332
01:10:56,666 --> 01:10:58,433
three campaigns a week,

333
01:10:59,433 --> 01:11:00,766
I am still very much

334
01:11:00,766 --> 01:11:02,833
enjoying my tabletop games.

335
01:11:03,333 --> 01:11:04,399
I know, and some of them

336
01:11:04,399 --> 01:11:05,766
have been running for years.

337
01:11:07,133 --> 01:11:08,300
You're down to three?

338
01:11:08,866 --> 01:11:09,699
What was the peak?

339
01:11:10,600 --> 01:11:10,966
Five.

340
01:11:11,866 --> 01:11:13,166
She's cutting herself down, Lee.

341
01:11:13,533 --> 01:11:13,833
It's too much.

342
01:11:13,966 --> 01:11:15,033
I got a...

343
01:11:16,500 --> 01:11:17,866
She needed to concentrate for all your life.

344
01:11:18,033 --> 01:11:18,399
What is it?

345
01:11:18,666 --> 01:11:19,500
Dice rollers anonymous?

346
01:11:20,100 --> 01:11:21,399
She's chasing her dragon fast and hard.

347
01:11:24,066 --> 01:11:24,566
Gaming.

348
01:11:25,666 --> 01:11:28,933
You said that that fails like a dramatic social

349
01:11:28,933 --> 01:11:31,366
overcorrection to lockdown, if I'm honest.

350
01:11:32,833 --> 01:11:33,766
No, it was five.

351
01:11:34,466 --> 01:11:38,100
So really love fifth edition D&D.

352
01:11:38,100 --> 01:11:38,800
It's my favorite.

353
01:11:39,333 --> 01:11:40,633
Don't ask me to play one D&D.

354
01:11:41,333 --> 01:11:42,000
That's the devil.

355
01:11:44,500 --> 01:11:46,766
I'm a very big fan of the 90s systems.

356
01:11:47,133 --> 01:11:47,866
I know they're cheesy,

357
01:11:48,266 --> 01:11:50,899
but Earth Dawn, primo time.

358
01:11:50,899 --> 01:11:52,066
We like the 90s.

359
01:11:52,066 --> 01:11:52,333
They're 90s.

360
01:11:52,333 --> 01:11:53,600
We like the 90s.

361
01:11:53,600 --> 01:11:55,566
The weird ones that have you like tickling

362
01:11:55,566 --> 01:11:57,833
people's hair for spells and stuff like that.

363
01:11:58,033 --> 01:11:59,133
I'm going to come to you in a minute, Ross, but

364
01:11:59,133 --> 01:12:01,866
this is fantastic because I neither understand

365
01:12:01,866 --> 01:12:04,566
what either he or she is talking about now.

366
01:12:04,566 --> 01:12:06,366
I like the 90s, but I like Oasis

367
01:12:06,366 --> 01:12:08,266
and Britpop and stuff like that.

368
01:12:09,533 --> 01:12:10,266
That's not it.

369
01:12:11,366 --> 01:12:12,466
I'm going to end up agreeing

370
01:12:12,466 --> 01:12:14,366
with Ross, which is just bizarre.

371
01:12:16,433 --> 01:12:17,166
I don't know.

372
01:12:17,399 --> 01:12:18,233
I mean, I can appreciate.

373
01:12:18,533 --> 01:12:21,666
I understand that the retro and I've played

374
01:12:21,666 --> 01:12:23,933
Dungeons and Dragons two times in my entire

375
01:12:23,933 --> 01:12:26,300
life and neither of those times did it go well.

376
01:12:26,566 --> 01:12:28,566
There was a dungeon in one of them didn't see a

377
01:12:28,566 --> 01:12:29,533
dragon the entire time.

378
01:12:29,533 --> 01:12:30,233
It's very disappointing.

379
01:12:31,399 --> 01:12:34,533
But you're doing this three nights a week.

380
01:12:34,533 --> 01:12:36,666
You were doing it five nights a week.

381
01:12:36,899 --> 01:12:37,633
Yeah, because I love it.

382
01:12:38,066 --> 01:12:39,633
I don't know anybody that I'd

383
01:12:39,633 --> 01:12:40,966
be happy talking to that often.

384
01:12:41,699 --> 01:12:42,733
It is great.

385
01:12:44,433 --> 01:12:46,633
So my Wednesdays are my most exciting one

386
01:12:46,633 --> 01:12:48,366
because those that's my GM ignite.

387
01:12:49,166 --> 01:12:51,166
That's where I'm a storyteller and I'm

388
01:12:51,166 --> 01:12:53,066
currently running a campaign for Vampire the

389
01:12:53,066 --> 01:12:57,033
Masquerade, which obviously I freaking love.

390
01:12:58,266 --> 01:13:00,300
So it's not all one consistent campaign.

391
01:13:00,300 --> 01:13:01,566
You're hopping through different.

392
01:13:02,166 --> 01:13:04,233
Yeah, so in lockdown, it was

393
01:13:04,233 --> 01:13:05,733
five different groups of people.

394
01:13:06,300 --> 01:13:07,600
So five different campaigns.

395
01:13:08,333 --> 01:13:10,533
And then obviously now it's

396
01:13:10,533 --> 01:13:12,333
three different groups of people.

397
01:13:14,333 --> 01:13:16,233
Why they tolerate me crazy.

398
01:13:17,966 --> 01:13:18,600
Good grief.

399
01:13:19,366 --> 01:13:19,633
All right.

400
01:13:19,633 --> 01:13:20,433
It sounds really good fun.

401
01:13:20,433 --> 01:13:22,433
Have you been playing computer games?

402
01:13:22,966 --> 01:13:23,566
Oh, yes.

403
01:13:23,966 --> 01:13:24,199
Okay.

404
01:13:24,466 --> 01:13:24,766
That cross.

405
01:13:24,766 --> 01:13:25,566
We'll get to that.

406
01:13:25,566 --> 01:13:26,300
We'll get to that.

407
01:13:26,633 --> 01:13:27,166
Oh my goodness.

408
01:13:27,766 --> 01:13:29,033
Desperately trying to hold onto a

409
01:13:29,033 --> 01:13:31,466
thread that I can relate to here.

410
01:13:31,466 --> 01:13:33,266
Because Lee's already said that he.

411
01:13:34,733 --> 01:13:35,733
We're going back to classics.

412
01:13:36,399 --> 01:13:38,399
Silent Hill has given me,

413
01:13:38,733 --> 01:13:40,033
given another world more.

414
01:13:40,333 --> 01:13:40,633
Don't worry.

415
01:13:41,133 --> 01:13:41,533
We'll get there.

416
01:13:41,733 --> 01:13:41,933
Okay.

417
01:13:43,666 --> 01:13:45,133
This is, you guys have been doing way more

418
01:13:45,133 --> 01:13:46,066
interesting things than me.

419
01:13:46,333 --> 01:13:46,833
Bloody hell.

420
01:13:46,833 --> 01:13:48,966
He's built a retro gaming Emporium.

421
01:13:48,966 --> 01:13:51,000
She's clearly socializing with most of Wales.

422
01:13:51,600 --> 01:13:52,366
I'm building a cult.

423
01:13:53,399 --> 01:13:55,366
Ross, are you playing NBA 15 still?

424
01:13:55,899 --> 01:13:58,033
No, although I did play NBA 27 today.

425
01:13:58,566 --> 01:13:59,199
Oh, 26 today.

426
01:14:00,766 --> 01:14:01,033
26.

427
01:14:01,666 --> 01:14:01,866
Okay.

428
01:14:01,933 --> 01:14:02,366
I thought it'd be a full manager.

429
01:14:02,366 --> 01:14:03,633
We're not in the future yet, Ross.

430
01:14:03,633 --> 01:14:04,266
Not quite, no.

431
01:14:04,399 --> 01:14:05,933
It's because I've seen our first 27 already.

432
01:14:05,966 --> 01:14:09,233
So I haven't played football manager 26 though.

433
01:14:09,233 --> 01:14:11,199
I'm still playing 24 because they changed the

434
01:14:11,199 --> 01:14:13,000
whole thing and I hate it.

435
01:14:13,000 --> 01:14:15,233
So yeah, they've ruined it.

436
01:14:15,233 --> 01:14:16,233
They've killed the whole fan base.

437
01:14:16,266 --> 01:14:17,166
It's a big thing.

438
01:14:17,466 --> 01:14:18,800
They've killed the whole fan base.

439
01:14:19,199 --> 01:14:19,399
Basically.

440
01:14:19,566 --> 01:14:19,766
Yeah.

441
01:14:20,500 --> 01:14:22,766
People say that with every new iteration of

442
01:14:22,766 --> 01:14:23,866
every popular game that

443
01:14:23,866 --> 01:14:25,166
comes out every single year.

444
01:14:25,166 --> 01:14:26,899
But in reality, they're all the fucking same

445
01:14:26,899 --> 01:14:27,833
and they're all shit, Ross.

446
01:14:27,933 --> 01:14:29,266
I'm really sorry to tell you.

447
01:14:30,733 --> 01:14:31,566
Not the first one.

448
01:14:31,899 --> 01:14:32,566
That's not the third.

449
01:14:32,966 --> 01:14:34,166
What a football manager what?

450
01:14:34,199 --> 01:14:34,899
Or was it just called

451
01:14:34,899 --> 01:14:35,966
football manager at that point?

452
01:14:36,233 --> 01:14:36,733
It was a championship manager.

453
01:14:38,333 --> 01:14:38,899
Was it?

454
01:14:38,899 --> 01:14:40,066
There was one before that as well.

455
01:14:40,399 --> 01:14:42,966
Yeah, there was a proper retro.

456
01:14:43,300 --> 01:14:44,166
Yeah, nobody cares.

457
01:14:44,699 --> 01:14:45,966
So what else have you been?

458
01:14:48,433 --> 01:14:51,866
I've been going old school as well.

459
01:14:52,066 --> 01:14:54,833
I've had three LAN parties in the past year

460
01:14:54,833 --> 01:14:59,133
where me and my three buddies who ever since

461
01:14:59,133 --> 01:15:01,266
COVID have played Call of Duty every Wednesday

462
01:15:01,266 --> 01:15:04,600
and Sunday night, 8pm to 11, regular clockwork,

463
01:15:04,600 --> 01:15:08,600
we all hire a house in Basingstoke, which is

464
01:15:08,600 --> 01:15:10,833
set up for this sort of stuff.

465
01:15:10,833 --> 01:15:12,433
It's got three massive conference tables.

466
01:15:13,000 --> 01:15:16,833
It's got super fast internet, four screens, and

467
01:15:16,833 --> 01:15:19,266
we just spend the whole weekend eating take

468
01:15:19,266 --> 01:15:20,633
away and playing Call of Duty.

469
01:15:22,066 --> 01:15:23,233
You should go there to podcast.

470
01:15:24,266 --> 01:15:26,933
Yeah, you should go there to podcast.

471
01:15:26,933 --> 01:15:28,166
Your internet connection is dog shit.

472
01:15:28,166 --> 01:15:29,966
And I hope the big computer is better.

473
01:15:30,366 --> 01:15:33,733
But LANs are so cool.

474
01:15:34,333 --> 01:15:35,500
Yeah, they are really cool.

475
01:15:35,500 --> 01:15:36,800
What have you been playing?

476
01:15:37,233 --> 01:15:39,899
Well, the last time we went, which was four or

477
01:15:39,899 --> 01:15:41,133
five weeks ago, we spent the

478
01:15:41,133 --> 01:15:42,066
whole weekend playing Call of Duty.

479
01:15:42,233 --> 01:15:46,533
Before that, we started a fresh Borderlands 4,

480
01:15:47,033 --> 01:15:49,500
played it from beginning to end, leveled up to

481
01:15:49,500 --> 01:15:50,866
like level 50 every character.

482
01:15:51,833 --> 01:15:54,866
Yeah, we get there on a Friday, plug in three

483
01:15:54,866 --> 01:15:56,733
o'clock, and then we don't turn off again until

484
01:15:56,733 --> 01:15:57,933
Sunday at 11 when we have to leave.

485
01:15:58,166 --> 01:16:01,466
It's, my wife thinks it's incredibly sad, but I

486
01:16:01,466 --> 01:16:02,333
know you guys will understand.

487
01:16:03,766 --> 01:16:05,199
It's not incredibly sad.

488
01:16:05,199 --> 01:16:06,233
It's so cool.

489
01:16:06,966 --> 01:16:09,566
I can look, Warcraft and

490
01:16:09,566 --> 01:16:11,866
Starcraft were my kind of LAN parties.

491
01:16:12,199 --> 01:16:14,233
But LAN parties, no matter what game you're

492
01:16:14,233 --> 01:16:15,233
playing, is a good time.

493
01:16:15,566 --> 01:16:16,033
Yeah, exactly.

494
01:16:16,300 --> 01:16:16,500
Yeah.

495
01:16:16,966 --> 01:16:17,866
It's just good for you.

496
01:16:17,866 --> 01:16:19,466
I love anything like that.

497
01:16:20,166 --> 01:16:20,699
It's just good.

498
01:16:20,699 --> 01:16:22,733
I would love to have a

499
01:16:22,733 --> 01:16:24,466
camera strike LAN party again.

500
01:16:24,866 --> 01:16:26,966
That would just be the dream.

501
01:16:27,000 --> 01:16:29,266
We played Counter-Strike.

502
01:16:29,266 --> 01:16:31,366
Me and Lee went up to Blackpool a while ago.

503
01:16:31,366 --> 01:16:32,533
I can't even remember when it was now.

504
01:16:32,533 --> 01:16:34,766
We went up to Blackpool to, what was it called?

505
01:16:35,133 --> 01:16:35,633
PlayExpo?

506
01:16:36,500 --> 01:16:36,800
PlayExpo.

507
01:16:37,766 --> 01:16:39,933
And that was really good fun.

508
01:16:40,199 --> 01:16:42,500
So lots and lots of arcade machines, lots and

509
01:16:42,500 --> 01:16:44,066
lots of retro consoles and

510
01:16:44,066 --> 01:16:44,933
all of this kind of stuff.

511
01:16:45,366 --> 01:16:46,800
And we played Counter-Strike.

512
01:16:46,800 --> 01:16:48,766
And I took Eli, who by the

513
01:16:48,766 --> 01:16:50,366
way is now nearly as tall as me.

514
01:16:50,366 --> 01:16:51,100
He's got a mortgage back there.

515
01:16:52,166 --> 01:16:53,233
He's 14 now.

516
01:16:53,233 --> 01:16:53,466
No, don't pull.

517
01:16:53,466 --> 01:16:53,666
Jesus.

518
01:16:54,466 --> 01:16:56,399
No, he's still a wee bit.

519
01:16:56,966 --> 01:16:57,733
No, he's not.

520
01:16:58,566 --> 01:16:59,000
He's a lad.

521
01:16:59,933 --> 01:17:00,199
He's fucking huge.

522
01:17:00,433 --> 01:17:00,933
Hopefully he's going to start

523
01:17:00,933 --> 01:17:01,899
playing his way at some point soon.

524
01:17:02,733 --> 01:17:06,666
And yeah, he was absolutely enamored with so

525
01:17:06,666 --> 01:17:07,866
many of the games that were there.

526
01:17:07,933 --> 01:17:10,166
But Mortal Kombat, he was well

527
01:17:10,166 --> 01:17:12,100
on for reasons I cannot fathom.

528
01:17:12,100 --> 01:17:14,966
He loved Mortal Kombat and Counter-Strike 1.6.

529
01:17:15,533 --> 01:17:16,766
He hasn't seen the movies.

530
01:17:17,066 --> 01:17:17,866
I've seen the movies.

531
01:17:17,866 --> 01:17:18,800
He has not seen the movies.

532
01:17:20,000 --> 01:17:21,333
But yeah, the LAN party

533
01:17:21,333 --> 01:17:22,966
thing sounds freaking brilliant.

534
01:17:23,000 --> 01:17:26,466
A bunch of my mates went to a LAN party a

535
01:17:26,466 --> 01:17:27,199
little while ago, and

536
01:17:27,199 --> 01:17:28,533
they had a fantastic time.

537
01:17:28,533 --> 01:17:30,066
But you do this every--

538
01:17:30,366 --> 01:17:31,533
how frequently do you do it?

539
01:17:31,666 --> 01:17:32,933
Sort of once every six months or so.

540
01:17:34,466 --> 01:17:34,800
OK.

541
01:17:35,199 --> 01:17:36,233
Are you rent a house?

542
01:17:36,533 --> 01:17:37,399
Yeah, we rent an FBB.

543
01:17:37,399 --> 01:17:38,166
It's 100 pound each.

544
01:17:38,466 --> 01:17:39,266
It's 400 pound.

545
01:17:39,266 --> 01:17:40,766
It's fully set up for this

546
01:17:40,766 --> 01:17:41,633
sort of thing, basically.

547
01:17:41,766 --> 01:17:42,666
There's a Mortal Kombat

548
01:17:42,666 --> 01:17:43,766
arcade machine in the kitchen.

549
01:17:45,333 --> 01:17:48,600
There is about-- optimistically, they want

550
01:17:48,600 --> 01:17:49,533
people to play board games.

551
01:17:49,533 --> 01:17:51,500
There's like 70 copies of Monopoly, all the

552
01:17:51,500 --> 01:17:52,566
different varieties of Monopoly.

553
01:17:53,100 --> 01:17:53,833
I'll send you guys a link

554
01:17:53,833 --> 01:17:55,133
later so you can see this place.

555
01:17:56,066 --> 01:17:57,766
They didn't get touched.

556
01:17:58,133 --> 01:17:59,233
They'd get left alone.

557
01:17:59,766 --> 01:18:00,666
No one's playing them.

558
01:18:02,366 --> 01:18:04,233
That's how you lose friendships and family.

559
01:18:04,533 --> 01:18:04,733
Exactly.

560
01:18:04,833 --> 01:18:05,433
No one needs that one.

561
01:18:05,633 --> 01:18:06,233
They want Monopoly.

562
01:18:06,233 --> 01:18:07,066
I know, don't we, man?

563
01:18:07,266 --> 01:18:07,866
A horrendous game.

564
01:18:09,166 --> 01:18:10,633
But yeah, we've done three in the past 18

565
01:18:10,633 --> 01:18:11,366
months, and there's nothing

566
01:18:11,366 --> 01:18:12,933
planned in at the end of this year.

567
01:18:13,366 --> 01:18:15,666
Because one of the guys who's going is quite a

568
01:18:15,666 --> 01:18:17,600
high ranking officer in the Navy.

569
01:18:17,600 --> 01:18:19,633
And he's off to Cyprus to

570
01:18:19,633 --> 01:18:21,366
go to the Strait of Hormuz.

571
01:18:23,166 --> 01:18:23,833
Wow.

572
01:18:23,833 --> 01:18:24,366
In his downtime.

573
01:18:24,366 --> 01:18:25,066
I want to play Call of Duty.

574
01:18:25,266 --> 01:18:25,466
Yes.

575
01:18:25,466 --> 01:18:25,666
Stuff.

576
01:18:26,566 --> 01:18:29,000
In his downtime, he just chills out in a rented

577
01:18:29,000 --> 01:18:30,800
Airbnb with his mate to play it.

578
01:18:31,533 --> 01:18:34,666
Wow. 400 pounds is pretty decent value, though,

579
01:18:34,666 --> 01:18:36,066
for a weekend of entertainment.

580
01:18:36,466 --> 01:18:36,666
Yeah.

581
01:18:36,800 --> 01:18:36,933
Yeah.

582
01:18:36,933 --> 01:18:37,500
That's not bad.

583
01:18:37,733 --> 01:18:39,000
Yeah, it's really good value.

584
01:18:39,533 --> 01:18:40,800
We will buy Takeaway each.

585
01:18:41,166 --> 01:18:44,166
And yeah, it's just lovely.

586
01:18:45,300 --> 01:18:46,066
It's just good fun.

587
01:18:46,066 --> 01:18:46,533
We should do this.

588
01:18:47,133 --> 01:18:47,466
We should.

589
01:18:47,466 --> 01:18:50,066
What I'm realizing-- If we should do this, but

590
01:18:50,066 --> 01:18:51,366
we are all going to choose different games.

591
01:18:51,833 --> 01:18:52,233
Hang on a minute.

592
01:18:52,266 --> 01:18:53,733
It's taken us four years to get

593
01:18:53,733 --> 01:18:55,166
together on a fucking podcast.

594
01:18:55,166 --> 01:18:58,266
And this is the third application we've loaded

595
01:18:58,266 --> 01:18:59,566
to try and make this work.

596
01:19:00,166 --> 01:19:01,166
He's on his second PC.

597
01:19:01,433 --> 01:19:02,833
She's on her second bloody Mac.

598
01:19:03,466 --> 01:19:05,733
We could barely get together for this, let

599
01:19:05,733 --> 01:19:06,733
alone get into an Airbnb.

600
01:19:07,100 --> 01:19:08,266
Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

601
01:19:10,066 --> 01:19:11,833
Talking to all of you now, I've realized that

602
01:19:11,833 --> 01:19:12,800
my life's really boring.

603
01:19:13,133 --> 01:19:13,866
What have you been doing, Rich?

604
01:19:14,100 --> 01:19:14,633
I've been doing that too.

605
01:19:16,666 --> 01:19:18,100
I've not been doing anything

606
01:19:18,100 --> 01:19:19,600
anywhere near as exciting as that.

607
01:19:20,033 --> 01:19:23,433
We moved house in COVID.

608
01:19:25,233 --> 01:19:27,566
Because it seemed like a good idea at the time.

609
01:19:28,666 --> 01:19:30,133
We couldn't see anybody

610
01:19:30,133 --> 01:19:31,066
anyway, so why the fuck not?

611
01:19:32,333 --> 01:19:36,266
I got into the habit of-- I've been playing, as

612
01:19:36,266 --> 01:19:37,300
Lee knows, I've been playing

613
01:19:37,300 --> 01:19:38,899
multiplayer games exclusively.

614
01:19:39,533 --> 01:19:40,666
Just multiplayer games.

615
01:19:40,666 --> 01:19:41,699
Because I love playing with my friends.

616
01:19:42,133 --> 01:19:43,366
And I like talking.

617
01:19:45,766 --> 01:19:47,933
So we just spent years and years and years just

618
01:19:47,933 --> 01:19:48,800
playing multiplayer games.

619
01:19:48,833 --> 01:19:50,433
Apex Legends, Diablo, loads

620
01:19:50,433 --> 01:19:51,300
and loads of different things.

621
01:19:51,966 --> 01:19:55,333
And for years, there had been single player

622
01:19:55,333 --> 01:19:57,466
games, mind-blowingly good single player games,

623
01:19:57,699 --> 01:19:59,233
that had just passed us by.

624
01:19:59,666 --> 01:20:00,733
Because we wanted to

625
01:20:00,733 --> 01:20:01,733
play games with our friends.

626
01:20:02,466 --> 01:20:04,666
So during COVID, we went, do you know what?

627
01:20:04,899 --> 01:20:08,633
Let one of us play a single

628
01:20:08,633 --> 01:20:11,800
player game and stream it on Discord.

629
01:20:11,800 --> 01:20:13,133
Like a private Twitch stream.

630
01:20:13,633 --> 01:20:15,033
Everybody else would just chill.

631
01:20:15,633 --> 01:20:16,466
Couch gaming session.

632
01:20:17,466 --> 01:20:19,233
We've now been doing that since COVID.

633
01:20:19,466 --> 01:20:20,866
We do it almost every night.

634
01:20:22,100 --> 01:20:23,633
One of us, we pick a

635
01:20:23,633 --> 01:20:24,733
game, we all club in together.

636
01:20:25,266 --> 01:20:28,133
And we've played through tons and tons and tons

637
01:20:28,133 --> 01:20:30,199
of incredibly good single player games that we

638
01:20:30,199 --> 01:20:31,100
would have otherwise missed.

639
01:20:31,100 --> 01:20:32,899
Because we wanted to spend time with our

640
01:20:32,899 --> 01:20:34,633
friends, rather than sat there glued to a

641
01:20:34,633 --> 01:20:35,699
screenplay and single player games.

642
01:20:35,699 --> 01:20:35,933
All right.

643
01:20:36,433 --> 01:20:39,366
And it's genuinely-- it sounds so stupid, but

644
01:20:39,366 --> 01:20:40,433
it's genuinely been a bit of

645
01:20:40,433 --> 01:20:41,966
a revelation in gaming for me.

646
01:20:42,199 --> 01:20:45,433
I thought that hanging out with my mates was

647
01:20:45,433 --> 01:20:46,866
about playing multiplayer games.

648
01:20:46,866 --> 01:20:47,566
I should have known better,

649
01:20:47,566 --> 01:20:48,899
because it's not what we used to do.

650
01:20:49,333 --> 01:20:52,000
Back in the earlier days, when one of you had a

651
01:20:52,000 --> 01:20:54,366
console, one of you might have had a Nintendo,

652
01:20:54,633 --> 01:20:57,466
one of you might have had a Sega or a MIGA, or

653
01:20:57,466 --> 01:20:58,566
whatever it happened to be.

654
01:20:58,566 --> 01:20:59,933
You go to that person's house.

655
01:20:59,933 --> 01:21:00,766
Don't point them all out.

656
01:21:00,766 --> 01:21:01,966
They will be here all night.

657
01:21:03,933 --> 01:21:05,300
You go to your friend's house to

658
01:21:05,300 --> 01:21:06,466
play that game on that console.

659
01:21:06,466 --> 01:21:07,399
They come to your house to

660
01:21:07,399 --> 01:21:08,533
play your game on your console.

661
01:21:08,533 --> 01:21:09,366
And then you couch gaming.

662
01:21:09,366 --> 01:21:10,066
That's how it works.

663
01:21:10,066 --> 01:21:10,766
So I don't understand

664
01:21:10,766 --> 01:21:11,766
why it didn't occur to me.

665
01:21:11,766 --> 01:21:13,166
But it just doesn't anymore, right?

666
01:21:13,699 --> 01:21:16,233
But we've gone through so many-- and the best

667
01:21:16,233 --> 01:21:18,033
ones are multiple choice games.

668
01:21:18,033 --> 01:21:20,566
The ones where, like, Until Dawn and stuff like

669
01:21:20,566 --> 01:21:23,166
that, where, if you're quick enough, everybody

670
01:21:23,166 --> 01:21:24,433
who's sat there watching

671
01:21:24,433 --> 01:21:26,533
gets to shout out a direction.

672
01:21:27,166 --> 01:21:29,233
And I think we should jump over the log, or I

673
01:21:29,233 --> 01:21:30,766
think you should stab her in the left eyeball,

674
01:21:30,766 --> 01:21:31,666
or whatever it happens to be.

675
01:21:32,033 --> 01:21:34,666
And so everybody gets to be involved in the

676
01:21:34,666 --> 01:21:36,466
decision-making process, unless

677
01:21:36,466 --> 01:21:38,466
I override you to what you want.

678
01:21:38,500 --> 01:21:39,733
Thank you.

679
01:21:40,833 --> 01:21:42,333
Are you in the driving seat then?

680
01:21:42,866 --> 01:21:44,866
I'm often in the driving seat because I'm not

681
01:21:44,866 --> 01:21:46,333
frequently patient enough to

682
01:21:46,333 --> 01:21:47,966
watch somebody else get things wrong.

683
01:21:48,666 --> 01:21:51,533
Yeah, I was always one of

684
01:21:51,533 --> 01:21:52,833
those guys, unfortunately.

685
01:21:53,633 --> 01:21:55,366
I have to be controlling.

686
01:21:55,366 --> 01:21:56,933
It's too painful to watch

687
01:21:56,933 --> 01:21:58,199
somebody else get things wrong.

688
01:21:59,133 --> 01:22:00,966
I will get-- just go, stop it.

689
01:22:00,966 --> 01:22:01,266
Stop it, Lee.

690
01:22:02,300 --> 01:22:02,500
Savage.

691
01:22:03,033 --> 01:22:04,333
You surprised me, right?

692
01:22:06,266 --> 01:22:07,833
Do you know what?

693
01:22:07,866 --> 01:22:09,666
I'm driving the car.

694
01:22:10,199 --> 01:22:11,899
If I wanted to be mocked, I

695
01:22:11,899 --> 01:22:13,466
could just go and talk to my wife.

696
01:22:13,966 --> 01:22:14,199
All right?

697
01:22:16,866 --> 01:22:18,433
So that's what I-- look, I've

698
01:22:18,433 --> 01:22:19,266
been doing loads of other things.

699
01:22:19,766 --> 01:22:21,433
My life is not that boring.

700
01:22:21,766 --> 01:22:22,833
I've done lots of other family

701
01:22:22,833 --> 01:22:24,033
things, lots of other worky things.

702
01:22:24,033 --> 01:22:24,800
But they're all boring shit.

703
01:22:25,166 --> 01:22:26,333
We don't need to talk about it on the podcast.

704
01:22:26,533 --> 01:22:27,000
It's really good.

705
01:22:27,233 --> 01:22:30,666
But I am very happy to have all of you back,

706
01:22:30,866 --> 01:22:33,766
and all of us talking again, even if it's about

707
01:22:33,766 --> 01:22:34,566
retro stuff, I don't

708
01:22:34,566 --> 01:22:35,833
understand Dungeons and Dragons stuff.

709
01:22:35,866 --> 01:22:37,833
I definitely don't understand the ball things I

710
01:22:37,833 --> 01:22:38,766
don't care about at all.

711
01:22:39,133 --> 01:22:40,633
But it is really nice to

712
01:22:40,633 --> 01:22:41,766
have all of us together.

713
01:22:43,533 --> 01:22:45,366
Does anybody want to talk

714
01:22:45,366 --> 01:22:48,066
about a particular highlight?

715
01:22:48,833 --> 01:22:50,633
Now, it's going to be difficult because we

716
01:22:50,633 --> 01:22:53,233
haven't got together for so long now that

717
01:22:53,233 --> 01:22:54,933
there's nearly four plus

718
01:22:54,933 --> 01:22:56,866
years, probably, of stuff.

719
01:22:57,633 --> 01:22:58,899
So it might be recent.

720
01:22:59,266 --> 01:23:01,100
In Lee's case, it won't be recent.

721
01:23:01,733 --> 01:23:03,533
It might be recent.

722
01:23:04,266 --> 01:23:05,699
It might be something you played over the last

723
01:23:05,699 --> 01:23:06,833
four or five years or a film.

724
01:23:07,066 --> 01:23:07,733
Do you know what?

725
01:23:07,733 --> 01:23:08,633
Are we going games?

726
01:23:08,633 --> 01:23:10,300
Are we sticking with the game theme here?

727
01:23:10,500 --> 01:23:11,399
I think we should, yeah.

728
01:23:12,166 --> 01:23:12,933
I think we should.

729
01:23:12,933 --> 01:23:13,433
All right, fine.

730
01:23:13,433 --> 01:23:13,666
Fuck it.

731
01:23:13,666 --> 01:23:15,766
If it's a film tie-in of a game, I'll allow it.

732
01:23:17,633 --> 01:23:20,466
Who would like to talk about something, a

733
01:23:20,466 --> 01:23:22,199
highlight, something that they would like to

734
01:23:22,199 --> 01:23:23,866
get off their chest after the last four years

735
01:23:23,866 --> 01:23:24,899
and share with the class?

736
01:23:25,633 --> 01:23:26,800
El was about to explode.

737
01:23:27,433 --> 01:23:29,333
El, I could see it, but I thought I'd keep

738
01:23:29,333 --> 01:23:30,666
talking to see how much I

739
01:23:30,666 --> 01:23:31,666
could build the tension up.

740
01:23:32,733 --> 01:23:32,933
What?

741
01:23:33,533 --> 01:23:34,366
I'm going to explode.

742
01:23:35,133 --> 01:23:36,533
I am very excited.

743
01:23:38,333 --> 01:23:42,866
So as some people maybe aware or obsessively

744
01:23:42,866 --> 01:23:44,533
watching Konami for announcements,

745
01:23:45,566 --> 01:23:48,966
they brought out a new entry into the Silent

746
01:23:48,966 --> 01:23:51,233
Hill, like a catalogue, the IP,

747
01:23:52,899 --> 01:23:54,533
which was Silent Hill F,

748
01:23:54,833 --> 01:23:56,266
which I really enjoyed.

749
01:23:57,366 --> 01:24:01,000
Similar to you, Rich, like sometimes there's a

750
01:24:01,000 --> 01:24:02,733
group of us that would like to play video games

751
01:24:02,733 --> 01:24:06,033
together because I am desensitized to horror.

752
01:24:06,600 --> 01:24:09,633
I will be the driver because reasons.

753
01:24:11,533 --> 01:24:12,733
This helps the game flow a

754
01:24:12,733 --> 01:24:13,533
little bit better, right?

755
01:24:14,533 --> 01:24:16,500
Just, you know, it just happens.

756
01:24:16,899 --> 01:24:18,166
We run through things.

757
01:24:18,399 --> 01:24:19,433
We're stabbing people.

758
01:24:19,633 --> 01:24:20,133
It's great.

759
01:24:20,133 --> 01:24:20,800
It's a good time.

760
01:24:21,866 --> 01:24:25,533
And I had the pleasure and the privilege of

761
01:24:25,533 --> 01:24:28,000
being the driver for Silent Hill F.

762
01:24:28,433 --> 01:24:30,266
Not that I would have given anyone else the

763
01:24:30,266 --> 01:24:31,600
chance to drive that game.

764
01:24:33,699 --> 01:24:36,333
So again, it's not going to be a surprise to

765
01:24:36,333 --> 01:24:37,833
anyone who's listened to me

766
01:24:37,833 --> 01:24:39,666
blather for a very long time.

767
01:24:40,500 --> 01:24:42,966
It's a little bit of a departure from the OG,

768
01:24:43,600 --> 01:24:48,000
given that it is set in like 1960s rural Japan.

769
01:24:49,000 --> 01:24:50,966
But being a bit of a weeb, I was like, oh,

770
01:24:50,966 --> 01:24:52,466
good, two things I love.

771
01:24:52,733 --> 01:24:53,433
Bring them to me.

772
01:24:53,766 --> 01:24:59,133
So you're kind of you're swapping like the gray

773
01:24:59,133 --> 01:25:01,833
American fog for rice paddies

774
01:25:01,833 --> 01:25:04,166
being also swallowed by fog.

775
01:25:04,966 --> 01:25:10,533
And you play as like this young woman who is

776
01:25:10,533 --> 01:25:14,066
like kind of trapped between this abusive home

777
01:25:14,066 --> 01:25:17,933
life and this impending arranged marriage.

778
01:25:19,000 --> 01:25:22,633
And just the nastiness that exists

779
01:25:22,633 --> 01:25:24,166
in this town is quite back-biting.

780
01:25:25,199 --> 01:25:28,933
And it was an absolute joy to play through it

781
01:25:28,933 --> 01:25:31,133
with all of the nasties that

782
01:25:31,133 --> 01:25:33,066
I think her name is Shimizu.

783
01:25:34,366 --> 01:25:37,866
All of the nasties that she had experienced

784
01:25:37,866 --> 01:25:41,466
growing up, like I love the doll creatures.

785
01:25:42,033 --> 01:25:45,833
They're kind of like the standard of beauty

786
01:25:45,833 --> 01:25:49,533
that one would have to grow up with, I suppose.

787
01:25:51,066 --> 01:25:53,266
Just experiencing so many

788
01:25:53,266 --> 01:25:54,633
nasty things in a new frame.

789
01:25:55,533 --> 01:25:56,966
I love monsters being

790
01:25:56,966 --> 01:25:59,233
couched in an element of reality.

791
01:26:00,800 --> 01:26:05,066
And it's so thoroughly uncomfortable for a lot

792
01:26:05,066 --> 01:26:07,466
of people in the right ways, I think, because

793
01:26:07,466 --> 01:26:11,066
it treats these very heavy themes like gender,

794
01:26:11,466 --> 01:26:17,466
grief, family, violence in actually with a lot

795
01:26:17,466 --> 01:26:18,899
more maturity than a lot of

796
01:26:18,899 --> 01:26:20,566
like big budget budget productions.

797
01:26:22,266 --> 01:26:23,866
I adore it.

798
01:26:24,433 --> 01:26:27,266
I found myself a little bit obsessive about it.

799
01:26:27,266 --> 01:26:29,066
I love the monster design.

800
01:26:29,066 --> 01:26:30,399
The monster designs are very cool.

801
01:26:31,133 --> 01:26:35,866
If you want to Google the bride in Silent Hill

802
01:26:35,866 --> 01:26:39,000
F, top tier, we love seeing

803
01:26:39,000 --> 01:26:40,833
female werewolf representation.

804
01:26:41,666 --> 01:26:44,533
What a strong female woman.

805
01:26:44,966 --> 01:26:45,966
It's important, 26.

806
01:26:46,366 --> 01:26:47,033
There's none of werewolves.

807
01:26:47,600 --> 01:26:48,566
There's none of werewolves.

808
01:26:50,266 --> 01:26:52,566
The setting is gorgeous in,

809
01:26:52,566 --> 01:26:54,333
again, a deeply unsettling way.

810
01:26:54,566 --> 01:26:57,066
Combat.

811
01:26:57,500 --> 01:27:00,566
I've never been a huge fan of combat in horror

812
01:27:00,566 --> 01:27:04,633
games just because it, I don't know, I always

813
01:27:04,633 --> 01:27:08,633
feel like it dumbs down the horror because you

814
01:27:08,633 --> 01:27:12,033
have a ways and means to fight back, even if it

815
01:27:12,033 --> 01:27:12,866
does only take the

816
01:27:12,866 --> 01:27:14,233
monsters down for a little while.

817
01:27:15,800 --> 01:27:19,399
So I do generally tend to have a prevalence for

818
01:27:19,399 --> 01:27:20,566
horror games that don't

819
01:27:20,566 --> 01:27:21,866
allow a combat element in them.

820
01:27:23,899 --> 01:27:28,833
But still, despite that, I think the sound

821
01:27:28,833 --> 01:27:30,166
design, the visual direction,

822
01:27:30,666 --> 01:27:32,833
the writing, we're all very strong.

823
01:27:33,333 --> 01:27:36,533
And I still think it is a valuable contribution

824
01:27:36,533 --> 01:27:38,966
to the Silent Hill series as a whole.

825
01:27:38,966 --> 01:27:41,533
The combat in this, is it like Dark Souls type?

826
01:27:43,066 --> 01:27:43,899
More like free flow?

827
01:27:44,833 --> 01:27:46,666
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

828
01:27:46,666 --> 01:27:46,966
no, no, no, not really.

829
01:27:47,000 --> 01:27:50,433
So I've played this as well.

830
01:27:51,633 --> 01:27:53,300
And I've got an ever so

831
01:27:53,300 --> 01:27:54,600
slightly different take.

832
01:27:55,233 --> 01:27:56,733
And I'm not going to run over

833
01:27:56,733 --> 01:27:58,733
your whole, your whole segment here.

834
01:27:59,666 --> 01:28:01,800
I liked the combat.

835
01:28:02,266 --> 01:28:03,633
So I went straight from

836
01:28:03,633 --> 01:28:05,500
Silent Hill 2 Remake to this.

837
01:28:06,933 --> 01:28:08,866
And I, Silent Hill 2

838
01:28:08,866 --> 01:28:11,133
Remake was astonishingly good.

839
01:28:11,566 --> 01:28:13,933
And anybody who is, anybody who is a fan of the

840
01:28:14,033 --> 01:28:15,533
horror genre, even if you've not played the

841
01:28:15,533 --> 01:28:17,666
original Silent Hill 2, if you have, it will,

842
01:28:17,666 --> 01:28:19,866
the call matter, but it's so

843
01:28:19,866 --> 01:28:21,633
worth it for the story alone.

844
01:28:22,266 --> 01:28:24,300
It's worth remaking these games so that people

845
01:28:24,300 --> 01:28:28,399
who weren't of a generation to experience it

846
01:28:28,399 --> 01:28:32,833
originally get to experience the story in, in a

847
01:28:32,833 --> 01:28:34,633
very faithful new format.

848
01:28:34,633 --> 01:28:36,199
But Silent Hill F was something completely new.

849
01:28:36,500 --> 01:28:38,833
I love the combat and I didn't think I would,

850
01:28:38,833 --> 01:28:42,266
but I loved it because there's this sort of,

851
01:28:42,633 --> 01:28:44,133
because of the story and because of the

852
01:28:44,133 --> 01:28:45,833
background of this girl and this stuff that's

853
01:28:45,833 --> 01:28:47,133
going on that you don't really find out about

854
01:28:47,133 --> 01:28:49,366
originally, but it starts to bubble and grow.

855
01:28:49,933 --> 01:28:51,600
And you, you learn a little bit more about her

856
01:28:51,600 --> 01:28:53,633
back things that have been going on.

857
01:28:54,300 --> 01:28:57,300
The aggression she gets out during the, it

858
01:28:57,300 --> 01:28:59,266
feels like she's

859
01:28:59,266 --> 01:29:01,533
fighting back against the town.

860
01:29:01,533 --> 01:29:02,933
She's fighting back against her parents, my

861
01:29:02,933 --> 01:29:04,533
family, she's fighting back against all of

862
01:29:04,533 --> 01:29:07,533
these things that are wrong in her life.

863
01:29:07,933 --> 01:29:09,066
And it made the combat

864
01:29:09,066 --> 01:29:12,100
sections and elements feel worthwhile.

865
01:29:12,466 --> 01:29:13,533
It made them feel raw.

866
01:29:13,933 --> 01:29:17,033
And like it was part of the story, rather than

867
01:29:17,033 --> 01:29:18,966
somebody who wanted to have a story and then

868
01:29:18,966 --> 01:29:21,066
combat, which a lot of these horror games that

869
01:29:21,066 --> 01:29:23,533
have got combat sections in them, it feels like

870
01:29:23,533 --> 01:29:25,600
that you've got combat, combat, combat, combat,

871
01:29:26,066 --> 01:29:27,100
25 minute cut scene where

872
01:29:27,100 --> 01:29:27,933
you don't get to do anything.

873
01:29:27,933 --> 01:29:29,233
And then it's given you a bit of story.

874
01:29:29,566 --> 01:29:31,233
This, the combat, I felt

875
01:29:31,233 --> 01:29:33,600
pulled the whole thematic.

876
01:29:34,000 --> 01:29:34,233
Yeah.

877
01:29:34,233 --> 01:29:34,899
It worked really nicely.

878
01:29:35,699 --> 01:29:35,933
That was my take on it.

879
01:29:35,966 --> 01:29:38,433
It's a very good take.

880
01:29:38,433 --> 01:29:39,666
I love a balanced review.

881
01:29:39,966 --> 01:29:40,866
What does it stand for?

882
01:29:41,066 --> 01:29:42,066
What is it on who F?

883
01:29:43,066 --> 01:29:43,699
Fucked up.

884
01:29:46,000 --> 01:29:57,533
I'm on the wiki now, but yeah, I'm kind of put

885
01:29:57,533 --> 01:30:02,800
off because it says here that Silent Hill is a

886
01:30:02,800 --> 01:30:05,866
Souls like inspired melee combat system.

887
01:30:06,699 --> 01:30:08,433
And there's two things

888
01:30:08,433 --> 01:30:10,333
that put me off of gaming.

889
01:30:10,333 --> 01:30:10,933
One is horror.

890
01:30:11,833 --> 01:30:13,966
And the other is anything Dark Souls.

891
01:30:14,533 --> 01:30:19,500
So I don't even want to go for a bit.

892
01:30:20,733 --> 01:30:21,766
Does it leaves out?

893
01:30:22,500 --> 01:30:23,833
I think that's such a cop out.

894
01:30:24,066 --> 01:30:27,533
I think a lot, a lot of, this is going to be a

895
01:30:27,533 --> 01:30:30,133
little bit slaty, but a lot of gaming journals

896
01:30:30,133 --> 01:30:31,766
or gaming reviewers do

897
01:30:31,766 --> 01:30:32,833
use, Oh, it's like souls.

898
01:30:33,233 --> 01:30:34,466
And I'm like, please broaden

899
01:30:34,466 --> 01:30:35,899
your horizons, play more games.

900
01:30:36,233 --> 01:30:39,366
It's just not, so many games that a class to

901
01:30:39,366 --> 01:30:42,166
soul likes, souls, likes that are just not,

902
01:30:42,166 --> 01:30:42,866
they're not, they've got

903
01:30:42,866 --> 01:30:44,433
combat in them and you die.

904
01:30:45,233 --> 01:30:47,666
There are a couple of things specifically that

905
01:30:47,666 --> 01:30:48,866
make a Souls like a Souls

906
01:30:48,866 --> 01:30:50,333
like, and it's not difficulty.

907
01:30:51,166 --> 01:30:53,100
It's, it does a string of elements that need to

908
01:30:53,100 --> 01:30:55,166
be put together that create that formula.

909
01:30:56,233 --> 01:30:58,500
And repeatedly dying and getting better or

910
01:30:58,500 --> 01:30:59,566
something is part of that.

911
01:30:59,566 --> 01:31:01,966
And picking up, x, we've lost and learning,

912
01:31:01,966 --> 01:31:02,833
COVID and all that kind of stuff.

913
01:31:02,833 --> 01:31:03,633
That's all part of it.

914
01:31:04,033 --> 01:31:07,833
But then there are other games that sort of

915
01:31:07,833 --> 01:31:10,899
take elements of it and play in a very similar

916
01:31:10,899 --> 01:31:13,133
way, very incredibly different games like God

917
01:31:13,133 --> 01:31:14,866
of War, God of War 2018, and God of War

918
01:31:14,866 --> 01:31:16,833
Ragnarok, a kind of good examples of that,

919
01:31:17,266 --> 01:31:20,633
where they've got similar combat mechanics,

920
01:31:20,633 --> 01:31:22,833
different, but similar combat mechanics to the

921
01:31:22,833 --> 01:31:24,466
point where you could almost think that they're

922
01:31:24,466 --> 01:31:25,466
souls like, but they're not.

923
01:31:25,666 --> 01:31:26,366
And they're very different.

924
01:31:26,366 --> 01:31:28,033
And they've got stories, they've got stories.

925
01:31:28,233 --> 01:31:28,833
That's a big one.

926
01:31:29,166 --> 01:31:29,866
They have stories.

927
01:31:30,300 --> 01:31:31,233
I don't give a shit.

928
01:31:31,600 --> 01:31:33,133
I actually really like souls like this is

929
01:31:33,133 --> 01:31:34,533
something that's transformed in me over the

930
01:31:34,533 --> 01:31:36,933
last however many years, I actually really like

931
01:31:36,933 --> 01:31:39,066
souls like games now, I didn't use to.

932
01:31:39,266 --> 01:31:41,600
But they have no story.

933
01:31:41,866 --> 01:31:42,766
Anybody who tells you any

934
01:31:42,766 --> 01:31:44,199
difference, a fucking liar.

935
01:31:44,633 --> 01:31:46,600
There is no story to those games that is

936
01:31:46,600 --> 01:31:48,233
discernible or understandable.

937
01:31:48,866 --> 01:31:51,166
There is story, the shit in there that

938
01:31:51,166 --> 01:31:52,466
supposedly tells a story.

939
01:31:53,866 --> 01:31:55,866
You can't fucking pick it up.

940
01:31:55,866 --> 01:31:57,333
It's impossible, right?

941
01:31:57,699 --> 01:31:59,866
You watch a YouTube about it because the

942
01:31:59,866 --> 01:32:01,966
vendors in Elgin ring have Welsh accents.

943
01:32:02,199 --> 01:32:02,866
Is this the problem?

944
01:32:04,633 --> 01:32:09,266
They employ so many Welsh voice

945
01:32:09,266 --> 01:32:11,533
actors, I will stand on business.

946
01:32:11,833 --> 01:32:13,166
You keep giving them money, Rich.

947
01:32:14,100 --> 01:32:16,899
And then and then just to make things worse,

948
01:32:17,433 --> 01:32:19,566
because people thought that the story for the

949
01:32:19,566 --> 01:32:21,399
most of the Dark Souls games and Bloodborne was

950
01:32:21,399 --> 01:32:23,733
incomprehensible, when they made Elden ring,

951
01:32:23,733 --> 01:32:24,833
they decided, you know what we'll do?

952
01:32:24,833 --> 01:32:26,833
We'll get a very famous writer to write it.

953
01:32:27,566 --> 01:32:27,866
Right?

954
01:32:27,866 --> 01:32:30,533
So they they tagged in George RR Martin.

955
01:32:31,933 --> 01:32:35,066
Right, so it went from incomprehensible, but I

956
01:32:35,066 --> 01:32:36,500
don't care to incomprehensible.

957
01:32:36,800 --> 01:32:38,333
And should I understand this?

958
01:32:38,633 --> 01:32:40,766
I feel like maybe I'm the one that's missing

959
01:32:40,766 --> 01:32:42,033
out on this because I don't

960
01:32:42,033 --> 01:32:43,066
understand what's happening.

961
01:32:44,000 --> 01:32:44,233
All right.

962
01:32:44,566 --> 01:32:47,866
Okay, Silent Hill F is a fantastic addition to

963
01:32:47,866 --> 01:32:50,166
the cache of things that people might have

964
01:32:50,166 --> 01:32:51,566
missed over the last few years.

965
01:32:52,800 --> 01:32:53,199
Ross.

966
01:32:54,100 --> 01:32:55,566
Yeah, is there something?

967
01:32:56,266 --> 01:32:58,566
There isn't a year on year iteration of

968
01:32:58,566 --> 01:33:00,166
something that you play all the time.

969
01:33:00,166 --> 01:33:00,733
Oh, there is.

970
01:33:00,733 --> 01:33:00,933
There is.

971
01:33:01,266 --> 01:33:02,466
Oh, I'm excited.

972
01:33:02,800 --> 01:33:04,433
Okay, what have you what's your nugget?

973
01:33:04,433 --> 01:33:05,800
What's your what's your I

974
01:33:05,800 --> 01:33:06,566
should have said nugget.

975
01:33:06,566 --> 01:33:07,266
I don't know why I said that.

976
01:33:07,699 --> 01:33:09,466
And what's your what's your

977
01:33:09,466 --> 01:33:12,566
golden item over the last few years?

978
01:33:13,633 --> 01:33:16,233
I have gone back and I have 100%

979
01:33:16,600 --> 01:33:19,199
completed Red Dead Redemption two.

980
01:33:19,199 --> 01:33:23,933
Yes, hundreds of hours of my life.

981
01:33:25,133 --> 01:33:27,633
But I was I got bored of playing sports games.

982
01:33:27,633 --> 01:33:27,899
I know.

983
01:33:28,466 --> 01:33:28,800
Bombshell.

984
01:33:29,066 --> 01:33:29,266
Right.

985
01:33:30,033 --> 01:33:32,033
I just replaced you.

986
01:33:32,433 --> 01:33:34,000
A skinwalker is in our midst.

987
01:33:34,366 --> 01:33:34,899
Yeah.

988
01:33:34,899 --> 01:33:36,733
Who hurt you, Ross?

989
01:33:36,966 --> 01:33:38,233
Well, FIFA mainly.

990
01:33:39,199 --> 01:33:39,633
Yeah.

991
01:33:41,000 --> 01:33:41,933
Is it because they stopped

992
01:33:41,933 --> 01:33:43,166
calling it people are on?

993
01:33:43,366 --> 01:33:44,733
Yeah, EA, whatever it's

994
01:33:44,733 --> 01:33:45,866
called now rubbish life net.

995
01:33:46,233 --> 01:33:47,566
But yeah, I thought I need I

996
01:33:47,566 --> 01:33:49,600
need a big game to get into.

997
01:33:50,266 --> 01:33:51,733
And I've got another one.

998
01:33:51,733 --> 01:33:52,899
But if we've got time, we'll come back to it.

999
01:33:53,199 --> 01:33:56,366
But Red Dead Redemption two is for me the

1000
01:33:56,366 --> 01:33:57,266
greatest game ever made.

1001
01:33:57,266 --> 01:33:59,566
And I could get lost in that world the amount

1002
01:33:59,566 --> 01:34:00,866
of time I spent just riding

1003
01:34:00,866 --> 01:34:02,933
around on a horse, just being a cowboy.

1004
01:34:03,600 --> 01:34:05,033
Like it's so good.

1005
01:34:06,033 --> 01:34:07,933
Yeah, I think it's 300

1006
01:34:07,933 --> 01:34:09,866
hours, 400 hours, I think.

1007
01:34:11,066 --> 01:34:11,966
I could have done it much quicker.

1008
01:34:12,366 --> 01:34:15,266
But just the just the yeah, just the world.

1009
01:34:15,266 --> 01:34:16,633
I got lost in the world so many times.

1010
01:34:17,066 --> 01:34:18,133
That's the hallmark of any

1011
01:34:18,133 --> 01:34:19,666
amazing single player game.

1012
01:34:19,666 --> 01:34:20,333
You could do it quicker.

1013
01:34:21,366 --> 01:34:22,399
You don't want to.

1014
01:34:22,766 --> 01:34:24,666
You want to take your time, right?

1015
01:34:25,000 --> 01:34:27,033
I love by the way, if anybody is watching this

1016
01:34:27,033 --> 01:34:28,966
who's never seen us before or heard of us

1017
01:34:28,966 --> 01:34:31,333
before, don't be put off by the fact that this

1018
01:34:31,366 --> 01:34:33,066
isn't as bleeding edge as

1019
01:34:33,066 --> 01:34:34,466
you possibly were expecting.

1020
01:34:35,000 --> 01:34:36,233
You could be put off for a

1021
01:34:36,233 --> 01:34:37,233
plethora of other things.

1022
01:34:37,666 --> 01:34:39,066
But this part isn't going to change.

1023
01:34:39,433 --> 01:34:41,433
So if you're expecting incredibly current

1024
01:34:41,433 --> 01:34:42,933
gaming conversation, you

1025
01:34:42,933 --> 01:34:43,966
are in the wrong place.

1026
01:34:44,466 --> 01:34:45,733
We would love to see you stay.

1027
01:34:46,233 --> 01:34:47,600
But actually, do you know what,

1028
01:34:47,600 --> 01:34:48,666
this might be the time to get off.

1029
01:34:49,866 --> 01:34:51,533
Yeah, when we get to my game,

1030
01:34:51,533 --> 01:34:52,966
that's a very recent release.

1031
01:34:53,266 --> 01:34:54,166
So yeah, is it?

1032
01:34:54,500 --> 01:34:55,533
I'm excited.

1033
01:34:56,100 --> 01:34:57,566
You've downloaded something from it.

1034
01:34:57,566 --> 01:34:59,166
Gio and I am.

1035
01:34:59,166 --> 01:35:04,000
Dead Redemption to tell us

1036
01:35:04,000 --> 01:35:05,166
about your favorite horse.

1037
01:35:05,399 --> 01:35:06,466
How did you find the hunting?

1038
01:35:06,966 --> 01:35:08,000
Did you race the man?

1039
01:35:09,866 --> 01:35:10,433
All right, hang on.

1040
01:35:10,633 --> 01:35:11,366
All of it.

1041
01:35:11,366 --> 01:35:12,266
All of it.

1042
01:35:12,633 --> 01:35:13,166
Have you?

1043
01:35:13,866 --> 01:35:14,433
Because I've got

1044
01:35:14,433 --> 01:35:15,833
incredible memories of this game.

1045
01:35:16,166 --> 01:35:16,366
Yeah.

1046
01:35:16,466 --> 01:35:20,133
And for me, the the one that always sticks out

1047
01:35:20,133 --> 01:35:23,633
is that there's a guy who is walking around

1048
01:35:23,633 --> 01:35:25,066
randomly looking for his friend.

1049
01:35:25,533 --> 01:35:26,433
Yes.

1050
01:35:26,966 --> 01:35:27,833
Yeah, I can't remember

1051
01:35:27,833 --> 01:35:28,733
what his friend was called.

1052
01:35:28,733 --> 01:35:30,066
I cannot even remember what his friend was.

1053
01:35:30,233 --> 01:35:31,133
And he's just walking around

1054
01:35:31,133 --> 01:35:33,366
going, Kevin, he's down for it.

1055
01:35:33,633 --> 01:35:34,633
Yeah, Kevin.

1056
01:35:35,199 --> 01:35:35,466
Yeah.

1057
01:35:35,466 --> 01:35:36,133
It's very close.

1058
01:35:37,333 --> 01:35:37,533
Kevin.

1059
01:35:37,833 --> 01:35:38,066
Kevin.

1060
01:35:38,366 --> 01:35:38,733
Where's Kevin?

1061
01:35:38,733 --> 01:35:39,500
Have you seen Kevin?

1062
01:35:39,933 --> 01:35:41,333
And he just fucking turns up.

1063
01:35:41,333 --> 01:35:41,533
Yeah.

1064
01:35:42,000 --> 01:35:45,199
And to this day, absolutely no

1065
01:35:45,199 --> 01:35:46,733
idea who he was, what he was doing.

1066
01:35:46,733 --> 01:35:48,266
There was no discernible quest line that you

1067
01:35:48,266 --> 01:35:48,933
could pick up from him.

1068
01:35:49,466 --> 01:35:50,966
Nothing that you could do with this NPC.

1069
01:35:51,533 --> 01:35:54,333
But for some reason, it really stuck with me.

1070
01:35:54,333 --> 01:35:55,166
I was thinking about this

1071
01:35:55,166 --> 01:35:56,166
guy and his lost friend Gavin.

1072
01:35:56,433 --> 01:35:59,366
So ages after I finished this game,

1073
01:36:00,066 --> 01:36:02,166
uncomfortable amounts of time.

1074
01:36:02,166 --> 01:36:02,333
Yeah.

1075
01:36:02,333 --> 01:36:04,633
Are you digging up like old memories here that

1076
01:36:05,233 --> 01:36:06,666
hold traumatic memories?

1077
01:36:07,233 --> 01:36:08,233
Yeah, yeah, a little bit.

1078
01:36:08,233 --> 01:36:09,600
We've got a red dead.

1079
01:36:09,600 --> 01:36:10,866
I can't wait for your game.

1080
01:36:10,866 --> 01:36:12,433
This is bringing it bring it

1081
01:36:12,433 --> 01:36:13,933
up all all the emotions in me.

1082
01:36:14,266 --> 01:36:15,833
What was your moment in the game?

1083
01:36:15,866 --> 01:36:18,166
If you had to pick a moment or a scene or a

1084
01:36:18,166 --> 01:36:19,666
quest or whatever it was, what

1085
01:36:19,666 --> 01:36:20,833
was the one that stuck with you?

1086
01:36:21,266 --> 01:36:23,933
Well, I guess we're pretty much past the point

1087
01:36:23,933 --> 01:36:25,100
of spoilers at this point, right?

1088
01:36:25,100 --> 01:36:26,166
It's coming out in 2018.

1089
01:36:26,833 --> 01:36:28,533
I think the watershed's gone, I've been honest.

1090
01:36:29,500 --> 01:36:30,100
Spoiler alert.

1091
01:36:30,566 --> 01:36:33,366
When you finally catch up with Micah at the top

1092
01:36:33,366 --> 01:36:35,533
of the hill in the snow, and then Dutch comes

1093
01:36:35,533 --> 01:36:38,766
out of the barn, and you oh my God, I played

1094
01:36:38,766 --> 01:36:40,466
that, replayed that scene so many

1095
01:36:40,466 --> 01:36:41,633
times to try and shoot them both.

1096
01:36:41,866 --> 01:36:42,966
You can't do it.

1097
01:36:43,233 --> 01:36:45,800
But it's, it's, it's breathtaking.

1098
01:36:46,233 --> 01:36:48,333
It's, I don't care about Grand Theft Auto.

1099
01:36:48,566 --> 01:36:50,766
I don't, I don't like that world.

1100
01:36:51,266 --> 01:36:52,333
But the cowboy world,

1101
01:36:52,333 --> 01:36:53,533
give me more of that, please.

1102
01:36:54,666 --> 01:36:56,233
Did you play any of the online or did you

1103
01:36:56,233 --> 01:36:57,733
exclusively play the single player?

1104
01:36:57,933 --> 01:36:58,133
Solo.

1105
01:36:58,266 --> 01:36:59,566
Yeah, just all single player.

1106
01:37:00,266 --> 01:37:01,266
I played the online.

1107
01:37:03,300 --> 01:37:05,033
What does the online give you that over the

1108
01:37:05,033 --> 01:37:06,566
single player apart from other people?

1109
01:37:06,566 --> 01:37:11,466
Is it just multiple players quest things?

1110
01:37:11,833 --> 01:37:12,366
I think so.

1111
01:37:12,366 --> 01:37:13,233
I think it's very similar to

1112
01:37:13,233 --> 01:37:15,033
GTA online, or it's like GT horse.

1113
01:37:15,933 --> 01:37:17,766
And I think it's like that.

1114
01:37:17,966 --> 01:37:19,533
I think it's like everything's got one

1115
01:37:19,533 --> 01:37:20,533
horsepower, possibly two

1116
01:37:20,533 --> 01:37:21,166
if you steal a carriage.

1117
01:37:22,133 --> 01:37:24,633
But I think it's that kind

1118
01:37:24,633 --> 01:37:25,533
of, it's rockstar, right?

1119
01:37:25,533 --> 01:37:27,533
So it's a similar kind of formula apart from

1120
01:37:27,533 --> 01:37:28,666
it's like more horse adjacent.

1121
01:37:29,466 --> 01:37:31,733
But that might be that might be the next one

1122
01:37:31,733 --> 01:37:33,033
for you for one of your LAN parties.

1123
01:37:33,699 --> 01:37:35,300
Yeah, it might be Red Dead online.

1124
01:37:35,300 --> 01:37:36,433
Yeah, that's a good shout.

1125
01:37:36,766 --> 01:37:38,666
That's a ego bring it up.

1126
01:37:38,666 --> 01:37:39,733
I'll float that idea.

1127
01:37:39,733 --> 01:37:44,899
I think a red dead and sunhill.

1128
01:37:44,899 --> 01:37:45,933
I honestly,

1129
01:37:48,166 --> 01:37:48,466
right.

1130
01:37:49,733 --> 01:37:52,433
Lee, don't let me down, man.

1131
01:37:53,333 --> 01:37:54,333
Right.

1132
01:37:55,733 --> 01:37:57,833
So in the last I realized that in the last few

1133
01:37:57,833 --> 01:38:00,933
years, you've got an incredible, not just

1134
01:38:00,933 --> 01:38:04,533
hobby, but entire ecosystem of things that you

1135
01:38:04,533 --> 01:38:06,033
do within retro gaming now.

1136
01:38:06,766 --> 01:38:08,966
And but in the last four or five years, however

1137
01:38:08,966 --> 01:38:10,366
long it's been since we last caught up, what's

1138
01:38:10,366 --> 01:38:12,733
the what's what game or thing has it been that

1139
01:38:12,733 --> 01:38:14,033
stuck out to you the most?

1140
01:38:17,466 --> 01:38:18,166
It isn't games.

1141
01:38:18,633 --> 01:38:19,899
To be brutally honest.

1142
01:38:20,133 --> 01:38:24,166
I yeah, there's, there's so few games that I

1143
01:38:24,166 --> 01:38:27,266
play now, because when I started doing the

1144
01:38:27,266 --> 01:38:29,166
YouTube thing, it was, you know, the YouTube

1145
01:38:29,166 --> 01:38:30,566
channel was called or is

1146
01:38:30,566 --> 01:38:32,133
called more fun making it.

1147
01:38:32,466 --> 01:38:34,800
And it was literally because I was having more

1148
01:38:34,800 --> 01:38:38,366
fun doing the things to the to the things

1149
01:38:38,366 --> 01:38:41,566
rather than using the things I wanted to build

1150
01:38:41,566 --> 01:38:44,133
things out of what to fix things that were made

1151
01:38:44,133 --> 01:38:46,166
by pinball machines and arcade

1152
01:38:46,166 --> 01:38:47,333
machines and stuff like that.

1153
01:38:47,933 --> 01:38:50,266
But yeah, there was there's not been any games

1154
01:38:50,266 --> 01:38:55,300
I've kept up a little bit with Forza, Ryzen,

1155
01:38:56,166 --> 01:38:57,066
and that sort of thing.

1156
01:38:57,066 --> 01:38:59,699
But I'm not going to say

1157
01:38:59,699 --> 01:39:01,633
it, I'm not going to say it.

1158
01:39:01,633 --> 01:39:04,000
But no, it will be every now and then I'll pick

1159
01:39:04,000 --> 01:39:08,266
up a like a handheld retro gaming system or, or

1160
01:39:08,266 --> 01:39:10,766
I'll put together a PC, you know, to put under

1161
01:39:10,766 --> 01:39:13,466
the tele with loads of retro games on and I'll

1162
01:39:13,466 --> 01:39:17,633
play it for a little while and then go, Yeah, I

1163
01:39:17,633 --> 01:39:20,366
think I'm done on this down and then move on.

1164
01:39:20,366 --> 01:39:22,566
But if I have these grand ideas of making

1165
01:39:22,566 --> 01:39:25,100
things that are just going to give me access to

1166
01:39:25,100 --> 01:39:27,100
all of these games that I've missed out and I

1167
01:39:27,100 --> 01:39:29,199
really want to try and cover

1168
01:39:29,199 --> 01:39:31,666
before I shuffle off this mortal coil.

1169
01:39:33,166 --> 01:39:35,733
You know, games, whole ecosystems of games like

1170
01:39:35,733 --> 01:39:38,233
the PC Engine, I really, really want to get

1171
01:39:38,233 --> 01:39:39,733
into the PC Engine because there's some

1172
01:39:40,199 --> 01:39:42,500
absolutely brilliant arcade conversions on

1173
01:39:42,500 --> 01:39:43,233
there that I want to play.

1174
01:39:43,699 --> 01:39:45,566
And I'll dip into them now and then I've got

1175
01:39:45,566 --> 01:39:46,833
this right next to my foot,

1176
01:39:47,066 --> 01:39:48,766
two PC engines that need repair.

1177
01:39:50,300 --> 01:39:53,433
But I'm more drawn to the broken machines than

1178
01:39:53,433 --> 01:39:54,633
I am to actually play in the games.

1179
01:39:55,899 --> 01:39:59,266
But for the sake of so I had something to talk

1180
01:39:59,266 --> 01:40:02,633
about on this podcast, I have actually played a

1181
01:40:02,633 --> 01:40:04,233
game you went out of your way.

1182
01:40:05,233 --> 01:40:06,233
I went out of my way.

1183
01:40:06,800 --> 01:40:10,066
I bought a game with your own cash money that

1184
01:40:10,066 --> 01:40:11,133
you earned from YouTube.

1185
01:40:12,833 --> 01:40:13,033
Wow.

1186
01:40:13,466 --> 01:40:14,733
We are fun being habit.

1187
01:40:15,199 --> 01:40:16,166
I can't tell you.

1188
01:40:16,433 --> 01:40:17,866
I can't tell you what it is.

1189
01:40:18,699 --> 01:40:19,133
Two pounds.

1190
01:40:22,166 --> 01:40:22,966
Big spender.

1191
01:40:24,166 --> 01:40:24,533
Okay, okay.

1192
01:40:25,233 --> 01:40:28,199
So back in 1983.

1193
01:40:29,633 --> 01:40:31,500
I always had high hopes.

1194
01:40:33,133 --> 01:40:34,033
Carry on.

1195
01:40:35,366 --> 01:40:39,399
Back in 1983, the ZX Spectrum was released in

1196
01:40:39,399 --> 01:40:40,966
1982, but that was Christmas.

1197
01:40:41,266 --> 01:40:44,333
Everybody started playing the games in 1983 and

1198
01:40:44,333 --> 01:40:49,066
a company came along, which was Ultimate Play

1199
01:40:49,066 --> 01:40:50,633
the Game by the Stamper Brothers.

1200
01:40:51,066 --> 01:40:54,033
They ended up turning into Rare sometime later.

1201
01:40:54,033 --> 01:40:56,199
They'd given us Golden Eye and Banjo Kazooie

1202
01:40:56,199 --> 01:40:56,966
and that sort of thing.

1203
01:40:57,766 --> 01:41:00,933
But in 1983, they founded a company called

1204
01:41:00,933 --> 01:41:03,800
Ultimate Play the Game and they created some of

1205
01:41:03,800 --> 01:41:07,466
my absolute most favorite games of all time

1206
01:41:07,466 --> 01:41:09,233
that still stand up today.

1207
01:41:09,733 --> 01:41:12,333
They're on the ZX Spectrum, so they are nails

1208
01:41:12,333 --> 01:41:15,233
hard that you just will cry

1209
01:41:15,233 --> 01:41:16,966
yourself to sleep after playing.

1210
01:41:17,399 --> 01:41:18,533
Souls like you see.

1211
01:41:19,133 --> 01:41:23,233
Souls like, yeah, you don't know, man.

1212
01:41:23,433 --> 01:41:24,066
You weren't there.

1213
01:41:25,233 --> 01:41:27,233
We had three fucking lives, El.

1214
01:41:27,466 --> 01:41:27,966
That was it.

1215
01:41:28,966 --> 01:41:29,966
Mick, there are games

1216
01:41:29,966 --> 01:41:31,300
where you don't even get lives.

1217
01:41:31,533 --> 01:41:32,466
You get a code.

1218
01:41:33,566 --> 01:41:35,333
Oh, don't think to me about dizzy.

1219
01:41:36,766 --> 01:41:42,933
Jetpack and Pist, Transam, Luna, Jetman,

1220
01:41:43,333 --> 01:41:46,566
Nightlaw, Underworld, all of these just

1221
01:41:46,566 --> 01:41:49,266
brilliant ZX Spectrum games that they've

1222
01:41:49,333 --> 01:41:52,833
created and we played to death back then.

1223
01:41:53,266 --> 01:41:56,466
They are the ones that I would pick out of any

1224
01:41:56,466 --> 01:41:58,533
lineup of Ultimate Play the Game.

1225
01:41:58,833 --> 01:42:00,033
I can still see the logo.

1226
01:42:00,033 --> 01:42:02,000
It still impresses me that they managed to

1227
01:42:02,000 --> 01:42:05,366
create this logo on such a limited system and

1228
01:42:05,366 --> 01:42:06,633
make these amazing games.

1229
01:42:07,333 --> 01:42:10,000
But this one is called, the one I'm talking

1230
01:42:10,000 --> 01:42:10,833
about today is called

1231
01:42:10,833 --> 01:42:13,833
Attic Attack or Attic Attack.

1232
01:42:14,666 --> 01:42:22,133
And it's a choice because

1233
01:42:22,133 --> 01:42:24,266
you can say it either way.

1234
01:42:25,266 --> 01:42:29,233
It's ATIC, so Attic Attack.

1235
01:42:30,300 --> 01:42:35,433
And it's a top down dungeon thing where you

1236
01:42:35,433 --> 01:42:38,600
spawn into the dungeon and creatures randomly

1237
01:42:38,600 --> 01:42:40,933
just spawn in the room next to you and you've

1238
01:42:40,933 --> 01:42:43,666
got to go find the right color keys to get

1239
01:42:43,666 --> 01:42:46,233
through, the right color doors to eventually

1240
01:42:46,233 --> 01:42:48,466
find your way through to escape.

1241
01:42:49,833 --> 01:42:52,633
And it is so I don't

1242
01:42:52,633 --> 01:42:54,600
think I've ever finished it.

1243
01:42:54,600 --> 01:42:56,166
I haven't ever finished it.

1244
01:42:56,166 --> 01:42:56,933
It's so hard.

1245
01:42:57,566 --> 01:43:00,399
Actually, saying this, one of the things that I

1246
01:43:00,399 --> 01:43:03,199
really struggled with back then was because you

1247
01:43:03,199 --> 01:43:04,633
had this constant health bar.

1248
01:43:04,633 --> 01:43:05,966
You had like your doom guy type

1249
01:43:05,966 --> 01:43:07,466
thing, but it wasn't the doom guy.

1250
01:43:07,466 --> 01:43:09,433
It was actually a roast chicken in the middle

1251
01:43:09,433 --> 01:43:12,633
of the screen that just gradually turned into a

1252
01:43:12,633 --> 01:43:15,366
bony roast chicken as you lost health.

1253
01:43:15,966 --> 01:43:17,466
And you could pick up health by

1254
01:43:17,466 --> 01:43:19,133
eating stuff as you walked over it.

1255
01:43:19,966 --> 01:43:22,933
And the hardest thing about it was knowing

1256
01:43:22,933 --> 01:43:25,533
where to go because it was quite a big map.

1257
01:43:25,533 --> 01:43:28,033
You go through either top left, right, or

1258
01:43:28,033 --> 01:43:29,766
bottom of the screen to go.

1259
01:43:29,966 --> 01:43:31,766
Or you could go jump through the floor or you

1260
01:43:31,766 --> 01:43:33,766
could go through secret rooms, you know,

1261
01:43:33,766 --> 01:43:34,666
through the wall and things.

1262
01:43:35,333 --> 01:43:36,966
But you didn't have a map.

1263
01:43:37,266 --> 01:43:38,600
Nobody had a map back then.

1264
01:43:39,133 --> 01:43:44,199
And you didn't have time to stop and draw an

1265
01:43:44,199 --> 01:43:47,966
Elmo grid form and map the thing out.

1266
01:43:47,966 --> 01:43:48,866
You just didn't have time.

1267
01:43:49,366 --> 01:43:51,333
So I've never finished it.

1268
01:43:52,233 --> 01:43:54,566
And a friend of mine, a happy little dio's Jim,

1269
01:43:54,566 --> 01:43:57,866
another YouTube guy, he has actually created

1270
01:43:57,866 --> 01:43:59,933
this thing that plugs into his edX spectrum.

1271
01:44:00,800 --> 01:44:02,766
And it has a screen on it.

1272
01:44:02,766 --> 01:44:03,633
And it automatically

1273
01:44:03,633 --> 01:44:06,300
makes a map as it goes along.

1274
01:44:06,300 --> 01:44:08,033
It's just this brilliant little thing.

1275
01:44:08,033 --> 01:44:11,233
So that made me think, I need to be playing at

1276
01:44:11,233 --> 01:44:13,433
it attack or attack again.

1277
01:44:14,300 --> 01:44:17,366
Well, somebody, somebody called Stephen

1278
01:44:17,366 --> 01:44:19,633
Carlisle Smith has

1279
01:44:19,633 --> 01:44:25,033
recreated the original game in 3d.

1280
01:44:25,066 --> 01:44:28,866
It's now a first person shooter.

1281
01:44:29,366 --> 01:44:36,266
Okay, but it uses the original graphics.

1282
01:44:36,966 --> 01:44:41,066
So the ZX spectrum was very limited 16 colors

1283
01:44:41,066 --> 01:44:43,866
and well eight colors and then bright,

1284
01:44:43,866 --> 01:44:44,600
different brightness

1285
01:44:44,600 --> 01:44:46,033
colors of the same palette.

1286
01:44:46,666 --> 01:44:48,733
And you couldn't there was a thing called color

1287
01:44:48,733 --> 01:44:51,733
clash back then where if two colors were in the

1288
01:44:51,733 --> 01:44:53,000
same square, then you

1289
01:44:53,000 --> 01:44:54,133
would get a massive color.

1290
01:44:55,233 --> 01:44:57,666
So the palette was very limited.

1291
01:44:57,666 --> 01:44:59,733
It was a black background and very brightly

1292
01:44:59,733 --> 01:45:02,633
colored walls and characters.

1293
01:45:04,100 --> 01:45:04,933
You could Oh, you could play

1294
01:45:04,933 --> 01:45:08,000
as a knight, a serf or a wizard.

1295
01:45:09,366 --> 01:45:12,866
And you as so the wizard could go through

1296
01:45:13,133 --> 01:45:17,633
bookcases, the night could go

1297
01:45:17,633 --> 01:45:19,366
through beer barrels, I think.

1298
01:45:19,766 --> 01:45:21,933
And I can't remember what the serf the serf

1299
01:45:21,933 --> 01:45:23,066
probably just bounced off walls.

1300
01:45:24,133 --> 01:45:25,199
And so you would have to it

1301
01:45:25,199 --> 01:45:27,466
was kind of like gauntlet.

1302
01:45:27,966 --> 01:45:28,466
Do you remember gauntlet?

1303
01:45:29,166 --> 01:45:30,399
That was another game back then.

1304
01:45:31,133 --> 01:45:32,233
A little bit like that, but

1305
01:45:32,233 --> 01:45:35,233
in a slightly different style.

1306
01:45:36,566 --> 01:45:39,433
So constant respawns and constant trouble.

1307
01:45:40,433 --> 01:45:42,233
Well, the remake of this game, the remake of

1308
01:45:42,233 --> 01:45:44,666
this game uses, as I say, the exact same

1309
01:45:44,666 --> 01:45:48,566
graphics, but now they are up in the air facing

1310
01:45:48,566 --> 01:45:50,399
you and coming out your face.

1311
01:45:51,066 --> 01:45:52,066
The all of the walls look

1312
01:45:52,066 --> 01:45:54,966
perfectly the same as the original.

1313
01:45:56,300 --> 01:45:58,166
But it's in 3D, you're

1314
01:45:58,166 --> 01:46:00,333
playing with a mouse and W A S D.

1315
01:46:00,566 --> 01:46:02,633
It's it just makes this

1316
01:46:02,633 --> 01:46:05,466
game so, so much better.

1317
01:46:05,833 --> 01:46:08,066
Well, it's hard to say whether

1318
01:46:08,066 --> 01:46:09,733
it's better or not, actually, but

1319
01:46:11,866 --> 01:46:13,233
revisiting a different

1320
01:46:13,233 --> 01:46:17,000
just through a different lens.

1321
01:46:17,000 --> 01:46:17,633
I'm looking at this.

1322
01:46:17,633 --> 01:46:19,133
I think I'm looking at the right thing.

1323
01:46:20,500 --> 01:46:21,866
This is Stephen C Smith.

1324
01:46:21,866 --> 01:46:22,466
Did you say?

1325
01:46:22,466 --> 01:46:22,933
Is that the guy?

1326
01:46:23,533 --> 01:46:24,866
Stephen Carl Elsmith.

1327
01:46:24,866 --> 01:46:25,066
Yeah.

1328
01:46:25,366 --> 01:46:25,566
Yeah.

1329
01:46:25,666 --> 01:46:25,866
Yeah.

1330
01:46:26,133 --> 01:46:26,266
Okay.

1331
01:46:26,266 --> 01:46:27,433
I'm watching this now.

1332
01:46:27,433 --> 01:46:27,766
Right.

1333
01:46:30,366 --> 01:46:31,566
Back, back.

1334
01:46:32,233 --> 01:46:34,000
And I think like Windows 95 may

1335
01:46:34,000 --> 01:46:35,733
have even been earlier than that.

1336
01:46:35,733 --> 01:46:37,466
There was a screen saver

1337
01:46:37,466 --> 01:46:40,233
where you were walking.

1338
01:46:40,533 --> 01:46:41,766
Well, where the screen

1339
01:46:41,766 --> 01:46:43,433
moved through like a maze.

1340
01:46:43,433 --> 01:46:44,066
Do you remember the screen?

1341
01:46:45,699 --> 01:46:47,166
This, this reminds me of that.

1342
01:46:47,933 --> 01:46:49,399
This reminds me entirely of that.

1343
01:46:50,733 --> 01:46:53,800
Didn't this game inspire Nightmare as well?

1344
01:46:54,233 --> 01:46:54,933
Do people watch that?

1345
01:46:56,533 --> 01:46:59,333
I love the TV show Nightmare.

1346
01:46:59,333 --> 01:47:02,399
If you like TV show, I highly recommend you go

1347
01:47:02,399 --> 01:47:04,800
and watch Rose Tinted Spectrum on YouTube

1348
01:47:04,800 --> 01:47:08,066
because he's done like a retrospective of, he

1349
01:47:08,066 --> 01:47:11,833
does all things like a biker grove and all

1350
01:47:11,833 --> 01:47:13,899
sorts of California Dreaming

1351
01:47:13,899 --> 01:47:15,366
and all sorts of shows like that.

1352
01:47:15,366 --> 01:47:18,733
But he's doing Nightmare and I think he's

1353
01:47:18,733 --> 01:47:19,766
released the first season.

1354
01:47:19,766 --> 01:47:20,633
I'm a patron of his.

1355
01:47:21,233 --> 01:47:22,233
And he's hilarious.

1356
01:47:22,733 --> 01:47:25,233
His commentary, he's basically just mean to

1357
01:47:25,233 --> 01:47:27,333
children, which is fine.

1358
01:47:27,833 --> 01:47:28,433
Same.

1359
01:47:28,899 --> 01:47:29,933
A man after we're not.

1360
01:47:29,966 --> 01:47:34,433
So good.

1361
01:47:34,833 --> 01:47:35,033
Yeah.

1362
01:47:35,566 --> 01:47:35,766
Nightmare.

1363
01:47:36,333 --> 01:47:37,466
I'm pretty sure that was

1364
01:47:37,466 --> 01:47:39,666
part of this thing's journey.

1365
01:47:39,666 --> 01:47:40,566
I think they actually made

1366
01:47:40,566 --> 01:47:42,566
a Nightmare game later on.

1367
01:47:43,166 --> 01:47:44,300
I'm not sure if it's related though.

1368
01:47:45,066 --> 01:47:48,633
I am really happy in his own way.

1369
01:47:49,833 --> 01:47:51,633
And that was very much in his own way.

1370
01:47:52,966 --> 01:47:56,466
Lee did get a new game or a new game for us.

1371
01:47:57,366 --> 01:47:58,399
But he managed.

1372
01:48:00,066 --> 01:48:03,233
Well, the 3D remake is two years old, which is

1373
01:48:03,233 --> 01:48:05,333
really up to date for Lee.

1374
01:48:05,333 --> 01:48:05,933
It's a remake.

1375
01:48:06,533 --> 01:48:07,333
It's a new game.

1376
01:48:07,566 --> 01:48:08,466
I don't know if it's a remake.

1377
01:48:08,766 --> 01:48:10,733
I would possibly go as far as remaster.

1378
01:48:12,033 --> 01:48:14,600
Because it literally is using basically the

1379
01:48:14,600 --> 01:48:16,633
same sprites from what I can think.

1380
01:48:16,633 --> 01:48:17,133
Actually harder.

1381
01:48:17,766 --> 01:48:18,500
It's harder.

1382
01:48:18,500 --> 01:48:19,500
It's a harder game.

1383
01:48:19,733 --> 01:48:21,233
It's a harder game because there are

1384
01:48:22,733 --> 01:48:26,233
certain baddies and there's a vampire, a

1385
01:48:26,233 --> 01:48:31,399
Frankenstein and another mummy that inhabit

1386
01:48:31,399 --> 01:48:33,366
certain rooms and you have to get past them.

1387
01:48:33,366 --> 01:48:35,699
You have to pick up like a cross to get past,

1388
01:48:35,966 --> 01:48:37,233
you know, to ward off the vampire.

1389
01:48:38,033 --> 01:48:40,266
And I can't think of a spanner for the

1390
01:48:40,266 --> 01:48:42,633
Frankenstein for his bolts on his neck.

1391
01:48:43,566 --> 01:48:45,833
But when you're in the actual game, you can

1392
01:48:45,833 --> 01:48:49,699
only see the screen that you're on.

1393
01:48:49,699 --> 01:48:51,166
You can't see into the rooms beyond.

1394
01:48:51,633 --> 01:48:53,733
But when you're in 3D, you can look through the

1395
01:48:53,733 --> 01:48:55,300
doors into the next room.

1396
01:48:55,833 --> 01:48:58,266
The thing is, they can see you.

1397
01:48:58,766 --> 01:49:00,899
So the Frankenstein guy will walk

1398
01:49:00,899 --> 01:49:03,333
up to the door and wait for you.

1399
01:49:03,800 --> 01:49:05,633
So you're like, what do I do now?

1400
01:49:05,633 --> 01:49:06,566
I can't even get into the

1401
01:49:06,566 --> 01:49:08,199
room to like run around him.

1402
01:49:08,666 --> 01:49:10,066
He's just waiting for me.

1403
01:49:10,066 --> 01:49:11,366
Wait, you spanner at him.

1404
01:49:11,566 --> 01:49:12,466
Fucking this is for you, pal.

1405
01:49:12,466 --> 01:49:13,266
You come to you close.

1406
01:49:14,033 --> 01:49:16,866
Also, I suppose there's also a limited field of

1407
01:49:16,866 --> 01:49:17,699
view as well, because it

1408
01:49:17,699 --> 01:49:19,033
used to be top down, right?

1409
01:49:19,333 --> 01:49:22,266
And if it's like first person, you don't get a

1410
01:49:22,266 --> 01:49:24,166
view of the whole room.

1411
01:49:24,566 --> 01:49:25,466
Yeah, exactly.

1412
01:49:26,000 --> 01:49:27,566
And you end up looking

1413
01:49:27,566 --> 01:49:29,000
into the corner of the room.

1414
01:49:29,266 --> 01:49:32,066
In the original game, if you fired, like your

1415
01:49:32,066 --> 01:49:35,533
wizard, wizard bolts or whatever, or the night

1416
01:49:35,533 --> 01:49:38,266
throws axes, you could bounce them, they would

1417
01:49:38,266 --> 01:49:40,033
bounce around the room and end up.

1418
01:49:40,033 --> 01:49:41,800
So you just keep your finger on the fire button

1419
01:49:41,800 --> 01:49:43,633
and it will just keep bouncing them around.

1420
01:49:43,866 --> 01:49:44,699
Half the time you would

1421
01:49:44,699 --> 01:49:47,033
take out the things behind you.

1422
01:49:47,033 --> 01:49:48,733
But when you can't see them, they're behind

1423
01:49:48,733 --> 01:49:50,500
you, you don't know to press fire.

1424
01:49:50,733 --> 01:49:51,699
And you're just like, well,

1425
01:49:51,699 --> 01:49:52,866
why is my health going down?

1426
01:49:53,666 --> 01:49:55,800
Yeah, fast paced, it's actually well worth it.

1427
01:49:55,800 --> 01:49:59,833
You can download it for free if you're really,

1428
01:49:59,833 --> 01:50:01,466
really cheap and don't want to

1429
01:50:01,466 --> 01:50:03,666
support a brilliant creation.

1430
01:50:04,233 --> 01:50:06,300
So I highly recommend giving it a go.

1431
01:50:06,300 --> 01:50:08,766
It's really a real good nostalgia trip.

1432
01:50:08,766 --> 01:50:10,633
But also be really good for people

1433
01:50:10,633 --> 01:50:12,166
that haven't played the original.

1434
01:50:12,433 --> 01:50:13,466
I think it's fun.

1435
01:50:13,833 --> 01:50:15,666
For the same reason that we were talking about

1436
01:50:15,666 --> 01:50:18,233
with Silent Hill and things like that.

1437
01:50:18,233 --> 01:50:19,833
I think it's I think it's really good.

1438
01:50:19,833 --> 01:50:22,500
My kids, I went out of my way when they were

1439
01:50:22,500 --> 01:50:25,833
younger, to try and introduce them to the

1440
01:50:25,833 --> 01:50:28,366
history of gaming or the history of computers

1441
01:50:28,366 --> 01:50:29,699
in general, because I think it's kind of

1442
01:50:29,699 --> 01:50:32,266
important to know why you are where you are.

1443
01:50:32,733 --> 01:50:33,800
And yeah, all right, fine.

1444
01:50:33,800 --> 01:50:35,033
Play Roblox all day long,

1445
01:50:35,033 --> 01:50:36,533
but appreciate how we got here.

1446
01:50:36,899 --> 01:50:38,100
Appreciate why you can play

1447
01:50:38,100 --> 01:50:39,266
this mind numbing nonsense.

1448
01:50:40,633 --> 01:50:41,433
They do have a good time.

1449
01:50:41,633 --> 01:50:42,666
Back in my day, you

1450
01:50:42,666 --> 01:50:44,366
couldn't just Google a guide.

1451
01:50:44,366 --> 01:50:45,500
You had to phone a number

1452
01:50:45,500 --> 01:50:47,133
on the back of the game box.

1453
01:50:47,800 --> 01:50:49,466
And then they would talk you through it.

1454
01:50:49,766 --> 01:50:49,966
Yeah.

1455
01:50:49,966 --> 01:50:51,666
And DRM, right, was a code

1456
01:50:51,666 --> 01:50:53,100
wheel that came in the box.

1457
01:50:53,399 --> 01:50:54,833
You had to open it up, you had to turn the

1458
01:50:54,833 --> 01:50:55,766
things to the right thing

1459
01:50:55,766 --> 01:50:57,000
in order to start the game.

1460
01:50:58,033 --> 01:51:01,733
So I got like an NES and I got some other, I've

1461
01:51:01,733 --> 01:51:03,199
got other retro consoles here and stuff and

1462
01:51:03,199 --> 01:51:05,233
tried to get the kids to play those games.

1463
01:51:05,233 --> 01:51:05,833
I couldn't do it.

1464
01:51:05,866 --> 01:51:06,333
Too hard.

1465
01:51:06,766 --> 01:51:07,366
No.

1466
01:51:08,633 --> 01:51:08,966
Too hard.

1467
01:51:09,366 --> 01:51:09,566
Yeah.

1468
01:51:10,600 --> 01:51:12,466
Chippendale Rescue Rangers nearly nearly

1469
01:51:12,466 --> 01:51:13,766
absolutely finished my daughter off.

1470
01:51:13,766 --> 01:51:15,166
I wasn't sure she was ever going to play a

1471
01:51:15,166 --> 01:51:16,199
computer game again after that.

1472
01:51:16,199 --> 01:51:18,266
She just, too hard.

1473
01:51:18,600 --> 01:51:19,733
Lion King, forget about it.

1474
01:51:19,933 --> 01:51:20,166
Not a chance.

1475
01:51:21,033 --> 01:51:23,733
The Lion King was very difficult.

1476
01:51:23,966 --> 01:51:24,933
It was very difficult.

1477
01:51:24,933 --> 01:51:26,166
I genuinely forget about Dark

1478
01:51:26,166 --> 01:51:27,233
Souls, like one of the hardest games.

1479
01:51:27,833 --> 01:51:30,800
Do the jumping thing in the Lion King.

1480
01:51:31,199 --> 01:51:35,000
I actually think that game preservation, not

1481
01:51:35,000 --> 01:51:37,699
just game preservation, but the preservation of

1482
01:51:37,699 --> 01:51:41,066
the memory of how we got here, the pedigree of

1483
01:51:41,066 --> 01:51:43,966
where the appreciation that you get from

1484
01:51:43,966 --> 01:51:46,166
understanding why you are where you are, I

1485
01:51:46,166 --> 01:51:47,166
feel, and this is

1486
01:51:47,166 --> 01:51:48,133
somebody who's lived through it.

1487
01:51:48,133 --> 01:51:51,766
So it's a bit different possibly, but the it

1488
01:51:51,766 --> 01:51:53,666
lends itself a lot more to

1489
01:51:53,666 --> 01:51:55,133
the enjoyment of the medium.

1490
01:51:56,000 --> 01:51:58,333
And a great example, and it's not gaming

1491
01:51:58,333 --> 01:52:00,733
necessarily, but when the new Spider-Man came

1492
01:52:00,733 --> 01:52:02,800
out, my son really wanted to watch it.

1493
01:52:02,800 --> 01:52:04,000
Eli really wanted to go watch it.

1494
01:52:04,366 --> 01:52:05,466
And I said, you know what?

1495
01:52:05,466 --> 01:52:06,833
You won't appreciate it.

1496
01:52:06,833 --> 01:52:09,033
You won't appreciate this film

1497
01:52:09,033 --> 01:52:10,866
unless you know where we came from.

1498
01:52:11,399 --> 01:52:12,966
So we watched all the

1499
01:52:12,966 --> 01:52:14,466
original Spider-Man films.

1500
01:52:15,033 --> 01:52:16,133
We watched, we watched

1501
01:52:16,133 --> 01:52:17,833
like, yeah, we watched Venom.

1502
01:52:17,833 --> 01:52:18,633
We watched X-Men.

1503
01:52:18,633 --> 01:52:20,399
We watched, we watched just to, just to

1504
01:52:20,399 --> 01:52:22,333
understand where this was coming from.

1505
01:52:23,066 --> 01:52:26,399
And the payoff when he watched the latest

1506
01:52:26,399 --> 01:52:29,333
Spider-Man film that had Tobey Maguire and

1507
01:52:29,333 --> 01:52:30,500
Andrew Garfield in it as

1508
01:52:30,500 --> 01:52:31,366
well, and the callbacks.

1509
01:52:31,600 --> 01:52:33,466
It was just to see his face sort

1510
01:52:33,466 --> 01:52:35,033
of light up when that happened.

1511
01:52:35,833 --> 01:52:37,133
It's a similar thing.

1512
01:52:37,133 --> 01:52:39,066
I do think it's important that people

1513
01:52:39,066 --> 01:52:41,600
understand, even if they don't fully play all

1514
01:52:41,600 --> 01:52:43,166
the games, even if they don't play a mental

1515
01:52:43,166 --> 01:52:44,866
world and adore them in the way that we did

1516
01:52:44,866 --> 01:52:46,033
when we were younger, that's fine.

1517
01:52:46,533 --> 01:52:49,600
I think it's an opportunity that people have,

1518
01:52:49,633 --> 01:52:52,500
because like, what a privilege to exist in a

1519
01:52:52,500 --> 01:52:55,699
time where you've got like a back catalogue and

1520
01:52:55,699 --> 01:52:57,466
you can be like, oh, this looks really cool.

1521
01:52:58,333 --> 01:53:00,199
What else can I enjoy from it?

1522
01:53:00,199 --> 01:53:03,500
It's not like you've found the first entry.

1523
01:53:04,066 --> 01:53:06,733
Yeah, you just, oh, what a wealth of content.

1524
01:53:07,333 --> 01:53:10,666
I've got a box here that I've been sent with a

1525
01:53:10,666 --> 01:53:14,066
kit for me to build, which is the first

1526
01:53:14,066 --> 01:53:16,666
accepted games console.

1527
01:53:17,066 --> 01:53:17,600
Okay.

1528
01:53:18,433 --> 01:53:23,566
It's no, I bet you do not know what it is.

1529
01:53:23,566 --> 01:53:24,833
And there's no way.

1530
01:53:25,733 --> 01:53:28,166
The first games console.

1531
01:53:28,733 --> 01:53:31,466
The first game, the first proper computer game.

1532
01:53:31,800 --> 01:53:32,199
PlayStation 1.

1533
01:53:33,733 --> 01:53:33,933
Electrical.

1534
01:53:35,933 --> 01:53:36,666
Is it an Xbox?

1535
01:53:37,433 --> 01:53:37,633
No.

1536
01:53:40,166 --> 01:53:43,933
Is it electric or are we talking?

1537
01:53:44,733 --> 01:53:45,366
Is it electric?

1538
01:53:46,066 --> 01:53:46,266
Okay.

1539
01:53:46,533 --> 01:53:48,566
Look, you could use it.

1540
01:53:48,733 --> 01:53:49,500
It's not made of wood.

1541
01:53:49,933 --> 01:53:53,833
I bet there's wood in it.

1542
01:53:54,266 --> 01:53:56,533
I'm surprised there's wood in it somewhere.

1543
01:53:57,166 --> 01:53:58,533
Even if you're supposed to power it.

1544
01:53:59,166 --> 01:54:03,233
It's a fair assumption, but no, there's no wood

1545
01:54:03,233 --> 01:54:05,266
growing case for this one, I don't think.

1546
01:54:05,566 --> 01:54:07,166
I can't, I don't know if I can think of it.

1547
01:54:07,266 --> 01:54:07,966
The only thing I can

1548
01:54:07,966 --> 01:54:09,199
think of is the boner tone.

1549
01:54:09,233 --> 01:54:10,966
I can't show it.

1550
01:54:10,966 --> 01:54:12,433
It's in a box and it's not been made yet.

1551
01:54:12,433 --> 01:54:14,166
So it's got my address.

1552
01:54:14,166 --> 01:54:15,000
I was going to pick up the box,

1553
01:54:15,000 --> 01:54:15,933
but it's got my address on it.

1554
01:54:16,266 --> 01:54:18,300
So I'm not going to dox myself.

1555
01:54:18,300 --> 01:54:19,133
No, don't dox yourself.

1556
01:54:20,699 --> 01:54:21,100
It is.

1557
01:54:21,333 --> 01:54:21,566
Odyssey.

1558
01:54:22,233 --> 01:54:22,433
Yeah.

1559
01:54:24,666 --> 01:54:24,866
Yeah.

1560
01:54:25,066 --> 01:54:25,566
Before that.

1561
01:54:25,566 --> 01:54:25,800
Go on.

1562
01:54:26,433 --> 01:54:28,033
It's a PDP-1.

1563
01:54:28,800 --> 01:54:30,333
PDP-1.

1564
01:54:30,333 --> 01:54:31,100
Never even heard of it.

1565
01:54:31,266 --> 01:54:33,366
PDP-1.

1566
01:54:33,366 --> 01:54:34,766
Is that the one that came out before the Vita?

1567
01:54:36,033 --> 01:54:38,800
It was, oh god, yeah.

1568
01:54:38,833 --> 01:54:39,666
A calculator.

1569
01:54:41,066 --> 01:54:43,300
PDP-1 is a mainframe computer.

1570
01:54:44,466 --> 01:54:45,133
You've got a mainframe

1571
01:54:45,133 --> 01:54:46,433
computer in a box by your feet.

1572
01:54:47,300 --> 01:54:48,466
It's a recreation of one.

1573
01:54:49,366 --> 01:54:50,933
Running on a Raspberry Pi.

1574
01:54:51,699 --> 01:54:53,133
So they used to use this

1575
01:54:53,133 --> 01:54:55,000
mainframe computer to play this game.

1576
01:54:55,000 --> 01:54:57,000
And this, the only screen display they had was

1577
01:54:57,000 --> 01:54:58,266
a radar screen, which was

1578
01:54:58,266 --> 01:55:00,133
a perfectly round screen.

1579
01:55:01,066 --> 01:55:01,266
Okay.

1580
01:55:01,466 --> 01:55:03,433
And they played this game called Space War,

1581
01:55:03,633 --> 01:55:09,266
which is very early, well, it predates

1582
01:55:09,266 --> 01:55:11,033
everything, basically, everything.

1583
01:55:11,633 --> 01:55:13,800
Space War was the first computer game.

1584
01:55:14,300 --> 01:55:14,500
Wow.

1585
01:55:14,933 --> 01:55:17,033
And it looks a bit like Asteroid.

1586
01:55:17,033 --> 01:55:18,466
So you've got the ships on the screen that can

1587
01:55:18,466 --> 01:55:19,866
swivel around and you, but

1588
01:55:19,866 --> 01:55:21,133
it's a head-to-head game.

1589
01:55:21,133 --> 01:55:22,199
You have to shoot the other guy.

1590
01:55:22,633 --> 01:55:24,766
And there's a black hole in the middle and you

1591
01:55:24,766 --> 01:55:26,933
can slingshot yourself around the black hole.

1592
01:55:27,266 --> 01:55:28,733
It's just amazing.

1593
01:55:28,966 --> 01:55:31,633
But the screen that they played on, this radar

1594
01:55:31,633 --> 01:55:35,566
screen, had persistent phosphor on it.

1595
01:55:35,566 --> 01:55:38,266
So it left trails as you moved around.

1596
01:55:38,733 --> 01:55:39,766
It looks glorious.

1597
01:55:40,633 --> 01:55:42,366
So I've got that and it's got two of these

1598
01:55:42,366 --> 01:55:46,466
authentic looking controllers that are wired so

1599
01:55:46,466 --> 01:55:48,633
I can play some head-to-head Space War.

1600
01:55:49,866 --> 01:55:52,966
What you do has never sounded

1601
01:55:52,966 --> 01:55:54,699
cooler than what you just explained.

1602
01:55:56,433 --> 01:55:58,466
This is a massive machine.

1603
01:55:58,466 --> 01:55:59,533
I just looked it up.

1604
01:56:00,266 --> 01:56:03,166
Like, that's wild.

1605
01:56:03,766 --> 01:56:04,633
Yeah, that's not a box.

1606
01:56:04,866 --> 01:56:05,333
It's only this big.

1607
01:56:05,666 --> 01:56:05,966
It's not a console.

1608
01:56:06,066 --> 01:56:06,533
I think it's a little bit of respect.

1609
01:56:06,533 --> 01:56:07,433
Are you going to build it that size?

1610
01:56:07,666 --> 01:56:08,433
I'm going to be honest.

1611
01:56:08,433 --> 01:56:09,166
You're going to need a new shed.

1612
01:56:11,133 --> 01:56:12,633
It's a re- he said it's a re-creation.

1613
01:56:12,633 --> 01:56:13,433
It can't be the original.

1614
01:56:13,433 --> 01:56:14,466
I think it's the size of my mum.

1615
01:56:15,000 --> 01:56:15,933
He's not going to fit

1616
01:56:15,933 --> 01:56:17,866
that in a box by his feet.

1617
01:56:18,199 --> 01:56:20,433
Well, the original, I think it's, there's a

1618
01:56:20,433 --> 01:56:23,733
computer museum in, I think it's in Frankfurt.

1619
01:56:25,000 --> 01:56:26,166
And they've got a PDP one

1620
01:56:26,166 --> 01:56:27,433
there and it's literally priceless.

1621
01:56:27,699 --> 01:56:31,266
They only made a couple of hundred of them and

1622
01:56:31,266 --> 01:56:33,100
that was the sort of thing

1623
01:56:33,100 --> 01:56:34,600
that they sent off to MIT.

1624
01:56:35,933 --> 01:56:37,633
But yeah, I've got the one I've got.

1625
01:56:37,633 --> 01:56:39,000
It's called a PDP one.

1626
01:56:39,300 --> 01:56:41,066
So it's got Raspberry Pi inside it.

1627
01:56:41,066 --> 01:56:41,266
Right.

1628
01:56:41,500 --> 01:56:41,699
Okay.

1629
01:56:42,633 --> 01:56:44,133
And it's got all of the switches and the

1630
01:56:44,133 --> 01:56:45,433
blinking lights and stuff.

1631
01:56:45,533 --> 01:56:46,733
Have you got a round screen?

1632
01:56:48,300 --> 01:56:50,500
No, it doesn't come with a screen, but you can

1633
01:56:50,500 --> 01:56:52,399
just connect it up to an HCL monitor.

1634
01:56:52,866 --> 01:56:55,899
But I do want to make a cardboard cutout.

1635
01:56:56,133 --> 01:56:58,233
So yeah, you wouldn't set it up.

1636
01:56:58,366 --> 01:56:58,600
Yes.

1637
01:56:59,166 --> 01:56:59,300
Yeah.

1638
01:56:59,300 --> 01:57:01,166
No, no, I want to buy a round screen.

1639
01:57:01,466 --> 01:57:02,666
You can buy round screens.

1640
01:57:02,666 --> 01:57:04,733
You're going to buy a round screen for the.

1641
01:57:04,733 --> 01:57:05,766
Yeah, and I'm going to 3D print.

1642
01:57:06,133 --> 01:57:07,000
They call watches.

1643
01:57:07,466 --> 01:57:09,066
Just get like a Samsung Galaxy.

1644
01:57:10,233 --> 01:57:11,933
I want it to be bigger than a watch.

1645
01:57:12,533 --> 01:57:15,766
It needs to be a classic CRT monitor.

1646
01:57:16,866 --> 01:57:17,533
A round one?

1647
01:57:18,300 --> 01:57:18,699
Yeah.

1648
01:57:19,466 --> 01:57:20,966
YouTube channel's doing all right, but I don't

1649
01:57:20,966 --> 01:57:23,366
think it's doing round CRT monitor all right.

1650
01:57:24,333 --> 01:57:26,633
I believe in Lee's industrious spirit.

1651
01:57:26,666 --> 01:57:30,800
I don't like CRTs simply because they take up

1652
01:57:30,800 --> 01:57:31,866
so much blood in the room.

1653
01:57:31,866 --> 01:57:34,300
I've got this three in here and now I just

1654
01:57:34,300 --> 01:57:36,366
don't need three of them.

1655
01:57:36,899 --> 01:57:37,800
Please subscribe to Lee.

1656
01:57:37,933 --> 01:57:39,933
He needs new shared money so that

1657
01:57:39,933 --> 01:57:42,533
he can have a new circular series.

1658
01:57:43,266 --> 01:57:43,466
Please.

1659
01:57:43,966 --> 01:57:45,766
We need to make this happen.

1660
01:57:46,233 --> 01:57:46,433
Yeah.

1661
01:57:46,866 --> 01:57:47,966
He needs a round monitor.

1662
01:57:47,966 --> 01:57:48,866
It's just important, right?

1663
01:57:50,366 --> 01:57:51,666
Please get on board with this appeal.

1664
01:57:54,333 --> 01:57:55,933
I'll start a good fund, mate.

1665
01:57:56,033 --> 01:57:56,866
Roundy screen.

1666
01:57:59,033 --> 01:57:59,233
Okay.

1667
01:57:59,466 --> 01:58:01,366
That's kind of really, do you know, I really,

1668
01:58:01,766 --> 01:58:03,266
two things here, right?

1669
01:58:03,266 --> 01:58:03,466
Right.

1670
01:58:03,466 --> 01:58:05,633
So firstly, I've watched a load of your videos.

1671
01:58:05,866 --> 01:58:07,333
I'm always really interested in the kind of

1672
01:58:07,333 --> 01:58:10,833
stuff that you do, if not slightly removed from

1673
01:58:10,833 --> 01:58:12,899
it, because it's not my kind of thing, right?

1674
01:58:12,899 --> 01:58:14,699
I'm not, I'm not as into the retro scene as you

1675
01:58:14,699 --> 01:58:15,833
are and all that kind of

1676
01:58:15,833 --> 01:58:17,233
stuff, but you're allowed.

1677
01:58:17,833 --> 01:58:18,033
What?

1678
01:58:18,033 --> 01:58:18,566
Oh, thanks Lee.

1679
01:58:19,066 --> 01:58:21,666
But what you just described that, that kind of

1680
01:58:21,666 --> 01:58:23,800
PD, I've never heard of PD1, PD1 before.

1681
01:58:23,800 --> 01:58:25,033
Didn't know they played on a radar screen.

1682
01:58:25,133 --> 01:58:27,466
Didn't know, but the nuance of all of that kind

1683
01:58:27,466 --> 01:58:29,966
of stuff and knowing that people are trying to

1684
01:58:29,966 --> 01:58:31,633
preserve it and keep it going and stuff is just

1685
01:58:31,633 --> 01:58:32,833
really, I think it's really cool.

1686
01:58:32,833 --> 01:58:33,633
I think it's really interesting.

1687
01:58:34,666 --> 01:58:36,066
It reminds me as well.

1688
01:58:36,066 --> 01:58:39,266
You mentioned about the radar screen, about

1689
01:58:39,266 --> 01:58:41,399
the, you know, it leaves the trails behind it.

1690
01:58:41,466 --> 01:58:41,866
Yeah.

1691
01:58:41,866 --> 01:58:43,766
That wasn't necessarily part of the game.

1692
01:58:43,766 --> 01:58:45,133
They didn't program that into the game.

1693
01:58:45,133 --> 01:58:46,833
It was a by-product of the

1694
01:58:46,833 --> 01:58:48,066
type of technology that they used.

1695
01:58:49,066 --> 01:58:52,466
I played a, I can't remember what I played, but

1696
01:58:52,466 --> 01:58:54,866
I was playing emulated games, games that would

1697
01:58:54,899 --> 01:58:57,033
design to be played back on the CRT TVs that we

1698
01:58:57,033 --> 01:58:58,899
had way back in the time tubes and everything.

1699
01:58:58,899 --> 01:58:59,933
We're going to talk about the pixels.

1700
01:59:00,333 --> 01:59:01,199
The pixels, right?

1701
01:59:01,199 --> 01:59:01,766
It's different.

1702
01:59:02,066 --> 01:59:02,733
It's different.

1703
01:59:03,033 --> 01:59:03,266
Like that.

1704
01:59:03,866 --> 01:59:05,833
Well, no, not the size of them.

1705
01:59:06,533 --> 01:59:08,266
It's the lines between them.

1706
01:59:08,600 --> 01:59:08,800
Yeah.

1707
01:59:09,600 --> 01:59:11,466
These graphic artists

1708
01:59:11,466 --> 01:59:14,466
designed the sprites in the games.

1709
01:59:14,866 --> 01:59:15,933
I mean, I don't need to tell you this, Lee.

1710
01:59:15,933 --> 01:59:16,433
No, I'm sure.

1711
01:59:16,633 --> 01:59:18,466
But they designed the sprites in the games

1712
01:59:18,466 --> 01:59:21,899
knowing that every pixel

1713
01:59:21,899 --> 01:59:23,566
had a line in between it.

1714
01:59:23,733 --> 01:59:26,366
And so they designed them to account for that.

1715
01:59:26,366 --> 01:59:27,733
And the sprites looked fantastic.

1716
01:59:28,433 --> 01:59:31,866
You play it now on a modern screen without

1717
01:59:31,866 --> 01:59:33,800
those lines, without some sort of filter over

1718
01:59:33,800 --> 01:59:34,666
it, this generating those

1719
01:59:34,666 --> 01:59:35,733
like, and it doesn't look as good.

1720
01:59:36,100 --> 01:59:37,066
It doesn't look right.

1721
01:59:37,699 --> 01:59:39,566
It's mind boggling.

1722
01:59:39,566 --> 01:59:42,500
If you look it up and have a look at them side

1723
01:59:42,500 --> 01:59:44,866
by side, how they would appear to

1724
01:59:44,866 --> 01:59:47,933
you, like visually, it's insane.

1725
01:59:48,566 --> 01:59:51,933
It's so, I love the human spirit.

1726
01:59:51,966 --> 01:59:53,933
I think it's very cool how we

1727
01:59:53,933 --> 01:59:55,966
adapt and innovate for things.

1728
01:59:56,233 --> 01:59:59,966
And this is such an interesting design choice

1729
01:59:59,966 --> 02:00:01,833
where they worked around the

1730
02:00:01,833 --> 02:00:03,766
limitations of the technology they had.

1731
02:00:04,633 --> 02:00:04,833
Fantastic.

1732
02:00:05,066 --> 02:00:05,833
Love it.

1733
02:00:05,833 --> 02:00:06,300
Yes, you bet it.

1734
02:00:06,966 --> 02:00:09,266
See, the biggest trait for me is to go off to

1735
02:00:09,266 --> 02:00:11,666
there's a place called the

1736
02:00:11,666 --> 02:00:14,133
Retro Collective Cave in Stroud.

1737
02:00:14,533 --> 02:00:16,266
And I'm a regular visitor there.

1738
02:00:16,899 --> 02:00:21,600
And it's a museum for video games and games

1739
02:00:21,600 --> 02:00:22,633
consoles and computers.

1740
02:00:23,766 --> 02:00:27,233
And everything there, all of the systems right

1741
02:00:27,233 --> 02:00:28,899
from very early stuff to

1742
02:00:28,899 --> 02:00:33,933
early 2000s, or maybe late 90s.

1743
02:00:34,166 --> 02:00:35,966
So actually, no, there are some PCs there.

1744
02:00:35,966 --> 02:00:37,166
So early 2000s.

1745
02:00:37,800 --> 02:00:39,500
All of them are CRTs.

1746
02:00:39,500 --> 02:00:42,666
There's no TFT tubes or LCD screens in there at

1747
02:00:42,666 --> 02:00:44,533
all, unless it's a Retro one.

1748
02:00:45,100 --> 02:00:49,533
And it's a migraine waiting to happen with all

1749
02:00:49,533 --> 02:00:51,233
of these screens flickering at you.

1750
02:00:51,433 --> 02:00:53,533
But it's still, it's such a treat to see them

1751
02:00:53,533 --> 02:00:55,399
as they were back then.

1752
02:00:55,766 --> 02:00:58,033
Because these, like you talk about the lines,

1753
02:00:59,066 --> 02:01:00,433
you couldn't see the lines.

1754
02:01:01,366 --> 02:01:03,133
And you couldn't see like a

1755
02:01:03,133 --> 02:01:05,833
staircase edge on something diagonal.

1756
02:01:06,100 --> 02:01:07,399
It was just a straight diagonal

1757
02:01:07,399 --> 02:01:09,133
line because it was blurred in.

1758
02:01:10,166 --> 02:01:10,933
Yeah, so seeing them in

1759
02:01:10,933 --> 02:01:12,066
their natural environment.

1760
02:01:12,366 --> 02:01:15,899
Oh, it's a real treat to go back and...

1761
02:01:16,566 --> 02:01:18,333
I think it's your natural environment as well.

1762
02:01:19,333 --> 02:01:20,333
It is, yeah.

1763
02:01:20,966 --> 02:01:22,300
I thrive there, yeah, I

1764
02:01:22,300 --> 02:01:23,500
grow a little bit each time.

1765
02:01:25,866 --> 02:01:26,733
Oh my word.

1766
02:01:27,066 --> 02:01:27,133
Okay.

1767
02:01:27,133 --> 02:01:28,466
Or a little bit of me grows each time.

1768
02:01:28,666 --> 02:01:29,733
Yeah, again, you guys are all

1769
02:01:29,733 --> 02:01:30,933
far more interesting than me.

1770
02:01:31,833 --> 02:01:33,533
A little bit of me is growing every day.

1771
02:01:37,133 --> 02:01:37,333
Right.

1772
02:01:38,466 --> 02:01:39,366
I'm going to talk about Think.

1773
02:01:40,100 --> 02:01:41,666
I'm going to talk about Think and I'm going to

1774
02:01:41,666 --> 02:01:42,366
try and keep it as short

1775
02:01:42,366 --> 02:01:43,433
and sweet as I possibly can.

1776
02:01:43,433 --> 02:01:44,166
But it is a thing.

1777
02:01:44,166 --> 02:01:44,966
Oh, I thought we were done.

1778
02:01:45,666 --> 02:01:46,366
Fuck you.

1779
02:01:49,133 --> 02:01:49,366
Savage.

1780
02:01:50,333 --> 02:01:51,333
I've played loads of games.

1781
02:01:51,933 --> 02:01:56,166
I've played loads, as I said, playing games

1782
02:01:56,166 --> 02:01:58,399
with my friends over Discord has allowed us to

1783
02:01:58,399 --> 02:01:59,733
play single player games and stuff.

1784
02:02:00,133 --> 02:02:00,733
And a lot of the time

1785
02:02:00,733 --> 02:02:01,733
they're older games, right?

1786
02:02:01,733 --> 02:02:02,866
They're not brand new ones.

1787
02:02:02,866 --> 02:02:04,466
They're ones that came out and we missed

1788
02:02:04,466 --> 02:02:06,233
because we were playing games together.

1789
02:02:07,733 --> 02:02:08,966
Play through loads of those.

1790
02:02:08,966 --> 02:02:11,933
Now there's one, one in particular, that I just

1791
02:02:11,933 --> 02:02:13,633
blew my mind and is going to

1792
02:02:13,633 --> 02:02:14,866
stick with me for absolutely ages.

1793
02:02:16,433 --> 02:02:17,633
But I want to mention,

1794
02:02:17,899 --> 02:02:19,033
honorable mention, Arc Raiders.

1795
02:02:19,366 --> 02:02:21,066
I don't know if any of you have played Arc

1796
02:02:21,066 --> 02:02:23,500
Raiders or if it was even on your radar.

1797
02:02:24,133 --> 02:02:25,166
The online one with the dinosaurs?

1798
02:02:25,699 --> 02:02:27,666
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

1799
02:02:27,666 --> 02:02:28,733
This is a different Arc.

1800
02:02:28,733 --> 02:02:31,866
I can understand the confusion, but no, there

1801
02:02:31,866 --> 02:02:32,800
was a game with Arc Raiders.

1802
02:02:33,733 --> 02:02:34,399
Yeah, Arc was cool.

1803
02:02:34,899 --> 02:02:38,766
But Arc Raiders is an online

1804
02:02:38,766 --> 02:02:40,733
PVP PVE extraction shooter.

1805
02:02:41,500 --> 02:02:43,033
You play with friends or against other people

1806
02:02:43,033 --> 02:02:45,166
and it is incredibly dynamic.

1807
02:02:45,766 --> 02:02:46,666
Some games you go in and

1808
02:02:46,666 --> 02:02:47,533
people are really friendly.

1809
02:02:47,533 --> 02:02:48,300
Some games you go in and

1810
02:02:48,300 --> 02:02:49,266
people are really aggressive.

1811
02:02:49,266 --> 02:02:50,366
You never know what you're going to get.

1812
02:02:50,366 --> 02:02:52,066
The idea is to go in, loot,

1813
02:02:52,066 --> 02:02:53,833
kill these, these robotic enemies.

1814
02:02:53,833 --> 02:02:55,366
People can work together to kill these enemies

1815
02:02:55,366 --> 02:02:57,433
or they might look like they're working with

1816
02:02:57,433 --> 02:02:59,966
you and they might kill you instead near the

1817
02:02:59,966 --> 02:03:00,866
end or something like that.

1818
02:03:00,866 --> 02:03:02,000
And it's just really, really cool.

1819
02:03:02,000 --> 02:03:02,866
That was really great fun.

1820
02:03:02,866 --> 02:03:04,000
But that's not what I want to talk about.

1821
02:03:04,033 --> 02:03:05,899
What I really want to talk about, everything

1822
02:03:05,899 --> 02:03:07,533
that I've played Horizon Forbidden West,

1823
02:03:08,833 --> 02:03:11,000
flipping Resident Evil 4 remake, which was

1824
02:03:11,000 --> 02:03:12,066
astonishingly good, by the

1825
02:03:12,066 --> 02:03:14,566
way, and lots and lots of others.

1826
02:03:16,300 --> 02:03:21,666
Kingdom Come Deliverance is genuinely one of

1827
02:03:21,666 --> 02:03:24,833
the greatest games I have ever played.

1828
02:03:24,833 --> 02:03:26,133
And this came out of nowhere.

1829
02:03:26,366 --> 02:03:27,633
I did not expect it.

1830
02:03:27,633 --> 02:03:30,466
And Ross, because you enjoyed Red Dead

1831
02:03:30,466 --> 02:03:31,833
Redemption, I strongly

1832
02:03:31,833 --> 02:03:33,433
recommend Kingdom Come Deliverance.

1833
02:03:33,533 --> 02:03:35,833
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is a better game,

1834
02:03:36,266 --> 02:03:37,333
but you definitely want to

1835
02:03:37,333 --> 02:03:38,466
play the first one first.

1836
02:03:38,466 --> 02:03:39,433
Now, I didn't expect to

1837
02:03:39,433 --> 02:03:42,966
like this for one major reason.

1838
02:03:43,899 --> 02:03:45,133
I never finished Skyrim.

1839
02:03:45,133 --> 02:03:47,833
I started Skyrim like five times.

1840
02:03:48,566 --> 02:03:52,600
And I am a side quest enjoyer.

1841
02:03:53,033 --> 02:03:54,566
So I cannot help it.

1842
02:03:54,933 --> 02:03:57,133
I'm like a kleptomaniac of quests.

1843
02:03:57,766 --> 02:04:01,133
So every single time an NPC breathes funny

1844
02:04:01,133 --> 02:04:02,233
while I'm walking past him, I'm

1845
02:04:02,233 --> 02:04:03,500
like, "Ooh, you lost to Brian Pan.

1846
02:04:03,500 --> 02:04:04,033
Come here, love."

1847
02:04:04,466 --> 02:04:07,966
I need to help people in this game.

1848
02:04:07,966 --> 02:04:09,199
There's XP to be got.

1849
02:04:09,199 --> 02:04:10,199
There's loot to be had.

1850
02:04:10,199 --> 02:04:11,033
If there's stealing

1851
02:04:11,033 --> 02:04:13,133
available, that's also a side quest.

1852
02:04:13,833 --> 02:04:16,633
So I could not finish Skyrim.

1853
02:04:17,433 --> 02:04:19,866
I find it so dear, putting buckets of people's

1854
02:04:19,866 --> 02:04:21,800
heads so you can rob everything of all of it.

1855
02:04:22,166 --> 02:04:23,266
I never finished Skyrim

1856
02:04:23,266 --> 02:04:24,266
for a couple of reasons.

1857
02:04:24,866 --> 02:04:25,833
I think Bethesda games are shit.

1858
02:04:26,133 --> 02:04:27,300
I think they're terrible at making games.

1859
02:04:27,300 --> 02:04:28,266
I think they should stop doing it

1860
02:04:28,266 --> 02:04:29,199
and then work on something else.

1861
02:04:29,933 --> 02:04:31,500
I try playing...

1862
02:04:31,933 --> 02:04:34,266
What's the fucking space Skyrim they made?

1863
02:04:35,766 --> 02:04:37,566
Oh, is it No Man's Sky?

1864
02:04:38,000 --> 02:04:39,133
No, not No Man's Sky.

1865
02:04:39,733 --> 02:04:40,533
Not our worlds.

1866
02:04:41,366 --> 02:04:41,566
See?

1867
02:04:41,866 --> 02:04:42,500
It's that fucking...

1868
02:04:42,733 --> 02:04:43,633
What's the disappointment

1869
02:04:43,633 --> 02:04:45,866
of... ... by Bethesda Starfield?

1870
02:04:46,166 --> 02:04:46,533
That's the one.

1871
02:04:46,533 --> 02:04:47,333
Starfield, that's it.

1872
02:04:47,566 --> 02:04:48,966
Oh, yeah, there we go.

1873
02:04:49,366 --> 02:04:50,233
There were a bunch of

1874
02:04:50,233 --> 02:04:51,466
disappointing space games.

1875
02:04:52,366 --> 02:04:53,433
Same fucking engine.

1876
02:04:54,166 --> 02:04:54,866
It's just...

1877
02:04:55,233 --> 02:04:56,333
Honestly, couldn't get on with it.

1878
02:04:56,899 --> 02:04:58,000
Kingdom Come Deliverings popped up.

1879
02:04:58,033 --> 02:04:59,766
I thought, "We need a game."

1880
02:05:00,033 --> 02:05:02,466
It was like £2.50 on sale.

1881
02:05:02,466 --> 02:05:03,033
I thought, "Screw it.

1882
02:05:03,033 --> 02:05:03,766
Let's go for it."

1883
02:05:04,333 --> 02:05:07,000
Genuinely, one of the most transformative

1884
02:05:07,000 --> 02:05:10,166
experiences in gaming that I have had in a

1885
02:05:10,166 --> 02:05:11,233
really, really long time.

1886
02:05:11,766 --> 02:05:12,333
It's clunky.

1887
02:05:12,666 --> 02:05:15,399
It's hard, especially at the beginning.

1888
02:05:15,633 --> 02:05:17,333
You are a blacksmith's son.

1889
02:05:17,333 --> 02:05:19,166
You have no idea about combat.

1890
02:05:19,433 --> 02:05:21,966
You understand that the sword is an object and

1891
02:05:21,966 --> 02:05:23,433
it has a pointy end because you make them.

1892
02:05:23,833 --> 02:05:24,466
But swinging them is an

1893
02:05:24,466 --> 02:05:25,500
entirely different story.

1894
02:05:25,500 --> 02:05:26,433
And when you start playing

1895
02:05:26,433 --> 02:05:28,133
the game, that's how it plays.

1896
02:05:29,366 --> 02:05:30,800
This guy doesn't know how to

1897
02:05:30,800 --> 02:05:32,600
wield a weapon in any meaningful way.

1898
02:05:32,600 --> 02:05:33,366
And it's incredibly

1899
02:05:33,366 --> 02:05:36,233
difficult to play the combat.

1900
02:05:36,233 --> 02:05:37,266
You have to make choices.

1901
02:05:37,266 --> 02:05:38,866
You have to decide whether you're going to

1902
02:05:38,866 --> 02:05:40,433
bother engaging with somebody or not because if

1903
02:05:40,433 --> 02:05:41,300
you do, you're probably going to die.

1904
02:05:42,733 --> 02:05:44,399
The story's amazing.

1905
02:05:44,399 --> 02:05:45,566
It's incredibly immersive.

1906
02:05:46,133 --> 02:05:47,166
The characters have got

1907
02:05:47,166 --> 02:05:48,366
just the right level of...

1908
02:05:48,366 --> 02:05:49,833
Even though it's not set in England, all the

1909
02:05:49,833 --> 02:05:50,966
characters have got British accents.

1910
02:05:53,466 --> 02:05:56,566
There's this level of snark and cheek and

1911
02:05:56,566 --> 02:05:58,699
people are coiffing ale.

1912
02:05:58,699 --> 02:06:01,866
And it comes across as incredibly authentic.

1913
02:06:02,266 --> 02:06:05,866
Not authentic necessarily, medievally, although

1914
02:06:05,866 --> 02:06:08,833
it might be, but authentic sort of emotionally

1915
02:06:08,899 --> 02:06:10,766
in the way that the people who designed this

1916
02:06:10,766 --> 02:06:12,533
game put it together and had all the characters

1917
02:06:12,533 --> 02:06:13,366
interact with each other

1918
02:06:13,366 --> 02:06:14,566
and the story play out.

1919
02:06:14,966 --> 02:06:16,833
It was all incredibly personal.

1920
02:06:18,133 --> 02:06:19,166
Actually, the events in

1921
02:06:19,166 --> 02:06:20,433
the game were very small.

1922
02:06:20,433 --> 02:06:21,533
One village got attacked

1923
02:06:21,533 --> 02:06:23,166
and that was kind of it.

1924
02:06:23,333 --> 02:06:25,733
We're not talking monumental, giant, Helm's

1925
02:06:25,733 --> 02:06:27,600
Deep style battles here.

1926
02:06:27,600 --> 02:06:30,033
We're talking a very personal journey for one

1927
02:06:30,033 --> 02:06:34,133
person whose parents got killed and he needs to

1928
02:06:34,133 --> 02:06:35,933
find his own place in the world now.

1929
02:06:35,933 --> 02:06:37,466
And he doesn't know what to do about it.

1930
02:06:37,833 --> 02:06:41,233
And he ends up accidentally squiring for this

1931
02:06:41,233 --> 02:06:44,933
really arseholic lord who turns out to end up

1932
02:06:44,933 --> 02:06:46,100
being sort of really good friend.

1933
02:06:46,633 --> 02:06:48,333
The whole thing, the way it plays, the way it

1934
02:06:48,333 --> 02:06:50,333
was put together, it's incredibly difficult to

1935
02:06:50,333 --> 02:06:54,433
explain, but I cannot emphasize if you enjoy

1936
02:06:54,433 --> 02:06:56,000
single player games, if you like Red Dead

1937
02:06:56,000 --> 02:06:58,066
Redemption, if you like Skyrim, if you like

1938
02:06:58,066 --> 02:07:00,199
these kinds of things, give it a go.

1939
02:07:00,399 --> 02:07:02,399
The second game is even better in my opinion,

1940
02:07:02,733 --> 02:07:04,333
but it's definitely well worth

1941
02:07:04,333 --> 02:07:05,233
playing through the first one first.

1942
02:07:05,233 --> 02:07:06,166
And it's not a chore to play

1943
02:07:06,166 --> 02:07:07,100
through the first one first.

1944
02:07:07,633 --> 02:07:09,866
It is still a fantastic experience.

1945
02:07:11,433 --> 02:07:12,833
Yeah, it's probably not very expensive, right?

1946
02:07:12,833 --> 02:07:15,133
I don't know how much it is, but it's...

1947
02:07:15,133 --> 02:07:15,500
There you go.

1948
02:07:15,766 --> 02:07:17,300
It's 100% more $5.99.

1949
02:07:17,966 --> 02:07:19,766
What really appealed to me from what you very

1950
02:07:19,766 --> 02:07:23,533
first said there was that you focused in on the

1951
02:07:23,533 --> 02:07:27,366
progression part of it and that you started

1952
02:07:27,366 --> 02:07:28,699
with limited abilities.

1953
02:07:29,199 --> 02:07:31,466
And it just reminded me of the first...

1954
02:07:31,933 --> 02:07:33,233
Well, not the first Need for Speed game.

1955
02:07:33,466 --> 02:07:38,266
The Need for Speed Porsh Unleashed, or Porsh

1956
02:07:38,266 --> 02:07:39,466
Challenge, I can't remember.

1957
02:07:39,800 --> 02:07:42,199
It might even be just Need for Speed Porsh,

1958
02:07:42,433 --> 02:07:45,500
where you started out in a crap car and you had

1959
02:07:45,500 --> 02:07:46,800
to just build the cars up.

1960
02:07:46,800 --> 02:07:49,066
So in a game, it's just something that really

1961
02:07:49,066 --> 02:07:52,466
appeals to me just that linear, not linear, but

1962
02:07:52,466 --> 02:07:55,633
natural progression into being better.

1963
02:07:55,633 --> 02:07:56,533
And it's so natural.

1964
02:07:58,166 --> 02:08:00,433
So this is one of those games, and I love this,

1965
02:08:00,633 --> 02:08:02,266
and this isn't unique to this game.

1966
02:08:02,566 --> 02:08:03,566
Quite a lot of games do it.

1967
02:08:03,866 --> 02:08:05,800
But it's one of those games where the more you

1968
02:08:05,800 --> 02:08:06,966
do a particular thing,

1969
02:08:07,399 --> 02:08:08,633
the better you get at it.

1970
02:08:08,866 --> 02:08:10,666
So the more you use Xs, for

1971
02:08:10,666 --> 02:08:12,966
example, the better you get with axes.

1972
02:08:12,966 --> 02:08:13,966
The more you use a shield,

1973
02:08:13,966 --> 02:08:14,866
the better you get with shields.

1974
02:08:14,866 --> 02:08:16,600
The more you use lockpicking, the

1975
02:08:16,600 --> 02:08:17,466
better you get with lockpicking.

1976
02:08:17,833 --> 02:08:19,633
There's not just a leveling system where you

1977
02:08:19,633 --> 02:08:21,466
level up and at level two, you go, "I'm going

1978
02:08:21,466 --> 02:08:22,466
to put some points in lockpicking."

1979
02:08:22,933 --> 02:08:24,333
You have to do the thing

1980
02:08:24,333 --> 02:08:26,033
to get better at the thing.

1981
02:08:26,966 --> 02:08:30,366
So do you, your natural progression as your

1982
02:08:30,366 --> 02:08:33,466
skill increases as a person, you, playing the

1983
02:08:33,466 --> 02:08:34,166
game, does that have a

1984
02:08:34,166 --> 02:08:35,300
bearing on the game as well?

1985
02:08:35,666 --> 02:08:36,899
100%, I'm just a million percent.

1986
02:08:37,266 --> 02:08:40,533
So the character Henry, who is a brilliant and

1987
02:08:40,533 --> 02:08:43,433
really well-acted main character, but your

1988
02:08:43,433 --> 02:08:44,933
character Henry, he gets better.

1989
02:08:45,233 --> 02:08:45,966
He's not Hoover.

1990
02:08:46,566 --> 02:08:47,199
No, he's not Hoover.

1991
02:08:47,766 --> 02:08:52,033
Well, he's hungry a lot.

1992
02:08:52,366 --> 02:08:53,033
There's a whole thing,

1993
02:08:53,033 --> 02:08:54,300
there's a whole meme about it.

1994
02:08:54,300 --> 02:08:57,366
But he gets better.

1995
02:08:57,600 --> 02:08:58,666
He learns new things.

1996
02:08:58,866 --> 02:09:00,899
He gets better at combat and stuff, but that

1997
02:09:00,899 --> 02:09:04,366
doesn't alone make you better at the game.

1998
02:09:04,366 --> 02:09:06,100
There is definitely a skill curve from the

1999
02:09:06,100 --> 02:09:06,933
player's point of view.

2000
02:09:07,199 --> 02:09:08,866
You need to learn how these things work.

2001
02:09:08,866 --> 02:09:10,766
And the way that the combat works is very much,

2002
02:09:11,233 --> 02:09:12,633
people are going to attack you from above.

2003
02:09:12,633 --> 02:09:14,199
You have to move your mouse to above.

2004
02:09:14,199 --> 02:09:15,333
People are going to attack you from the side.

2005
02:09:15,333 --> 02:09:16,066
You have to move your map.

2006
02:09:16,100 --> 02:09:18,233
Playing it on pad, you do a very similar thing

2007
02:09:18,233 --> 02:09:20,466
with the control sticks, but you have to move.

2008
02:09:20,466 --> 02:09:22,933
So depending on the visual cues that people are

2009
02:09:22,933 --> 02:09:25,233
giving you as they're about to attack you, you

2010
02:09:25,233 --> 02:09:27,133
need to correctly move your weapon in those

2011
02:09:27,133 --> 02:09:29,800
directions to block them, to parry them, to

2012
02:09:29,800 --> 02:09:32,166
counter attack, all of this kind of stuff.

2013
02:09:32,766 --> 02:09:35,133
And the entire system changes depending on what

2014
02:09:35,133 --> 02:09:37,233
weapon you've got in your hand, whether you've

2015
02:09:37,233 --> 02:09:38,699
got a shield, what your

2016
02:09:38,699 --> 02:09:40,566
mobility is, how heavy your armor is.

2017
02:09:40,566 --> 02:09:41,899
It all has a bearing on

2018
02:09:41,899 --> 02:09:43,033
this sort of tactical combat.

2019
02:09:43,366 --> 02:09:44,866
And that's just the combat side of things.

2020
02:09:44,899 --> 02:09:46,266
And then you've got a million other things.

2021
02:09:46,733 --> 02:09:48,566
You could just go out into the woods and hunt

2022
02:09:48,566 --> 02:09:53,333
hair so that you can kill some hair or some

2023
02:09:53,333 --> 02:09:54,933
deer and then take them back.

2024
02:09:55,233 --> 02:09:56,533
And you're all right.

2025
02:09:56,533 --> 02:09:57,466
Your hair's fine for me.

2026
02:09:58,466 --> 02:10:00,166
And you go back and cook them

2027
02:10:00,166 --> 02:10:01,733
in, and your cooking skill goes up.

2028
02:10:01,733 --> 02:10:05,066
But don't get caught killing hair because

2029
02:10:05,066 --> 02:10:07,233
that's poaching and you

2030
02:10:07,233 --> 02:10:08,566
could get a wreck from that.

2031
02:10:10,066 --> 02:10:10,566
And there's a...

2032
02:10:10,800 --> 02:10:14,266
It's just so the world is so lived in.

2033
02:10:14,666 --> 02:10:17,633
Far more than I felt Skyrim ever was.

2034
02:10:18,033 --> 02:10:18,566
And the life.

2035
02:10:18,566 --> 02:10:18,766
Well, it's the first.

2036
02:10:19,366 --> 02:10:23,533
I think it's underappreciated.

2037
02:10:23,766 --> 02:10:27,566
I think smaller stakes stories are actually far

2038
02:10:27,566 --> 02:10:30,266
easier to connect with than, "Oh my goodness,

2039
02:10:30,466 --> 02:10:31,800
you are the chosen one.

2040
02:10:32,266 --> 02:10:33,833
Save the world or the universe."

2041
02:10:34,233 --> 02:10:34,566
Exactly.

2042
02:10:35,066 --> 02:10:37,966
Like just being a person is a

2043
02:10:37,966 --> 02:10:40,199
really easy story to connect with.

2044
02:10:40,399 --> 02:10:41,600
More small stakes stories.

2045
02:10:41,833 --> 02:10:44,066
And Henry is not the chosen one, by the way.

2046
02:10:45,133 --> 02:10:47,733
Does it give you the option of

2047
02:10:47,733 --> 02:10:50,033
being a dick or a nice person?

2048
02:10:50,033 --> 02:10:50,466
Yeah, yeah.

2049
02:10:50,466 --> 02:10:51,733
Oh, one hunt for full.

2050
02:10:51,733 --> 02:10:53,866
But you can be an absolute dickbag.

2051
02:10:54,333 --> 02:10:56,966
You can give really nasty answers to people.

2052
02:10:56,966 --> 02:10:58,333
You can give positive answers to people.

2053
02:10:58,533 --> 02:10:59,133
It's completely...

2054
02:10:59,600 --> 02:11:00,500
You could kill people.

2055
02:11:00,833 --> 02:11:01,033
See?

2056
02:11:01,500 --> 02:11:02,666
Run people, whatever you want to do.

2057
02:11:02,666 --> 02:11:02,866
I'd never be in the renegade.

2058
02:11:03,466 --> 02:11:04,933
I was really worried about this.

2059
02:11:05,366 --> 02:11:07,733
That I'd come on this podcast again, and then

2060
02:11:07,733 --> 02:11:09,166
I'd want to be playing games again.

2061
02:11:09,666 --> 02:11:11,033
I haven't got time for this, Rich.

2062
02:11:11,033 --> 02:11:11,399
Stop being funny.

2063
02:11:11,399 --> 02:11:11,666
Sorry, dude.

2064
02:11:11,766 --> 02:11:12,133
Funny.

2065
02:11:13,866 --> 02:11:14,766
Don't want to tell you.

2066
02:11:15,633 --> 02:11:17,100
Do you know what you always come on?

2067
02:11:17,100 --> 02:11:18,300
You can always just play it.

2068
02:11:20,666 --> 02:11:21,066
It's...

2069
02:11:21,433 --> 02:11:21,633
Look.

2070
02:11:22,000 --> 02:11:22,466
Yeah, there you go.

2071
02:11:22,666 --> 02:11:23,966
I don't want to bang on about it too much.

2072
02:11:23,966 --> 02:11:25,333
It was a really good game.

2073
02:11:25,333 --> 02:11:26,100
Stuck with me for a really

2074
02:11:26,100 --> 02:11:27,500
long time, and there are moments.

2075
02:11:27,899 --> 02:11:29,333
There are those all-important moments.

2076
02:11:29,566 --> 02:11:32,466
And like Elle said, an interesting thing is, it

2077
02:11:32,466 --> 02:11:34,033
is a small story, realistically, on the grand

2078
02:11:34,033 --> 02:11:35,199
scale of the world like it is.

2079
02:11:36,399 --> 02:11:38,433
We're not talking monumental, earth-shattering,

2080
02:11:38,733 --> 02:11:39,966
key moments in history that

2081
02:11:39,966 --> 02:11:41,133
most people would know about here.

2082
02:11:41,133 --> 02:11:44,333
We are talking a tiny little fiefdom battle

2083
02:11:44,899 --> 02:11:46,399
that nobody will have ever heard of.

2084
02:11:46,399 --> 02:11:48,199
It's actually a genuine moment in history, and

2085
02:11:48,199 --> 02:11:50,666
it is based on legitimate historical events.

2086
02:11:51,000 --> 02:11:51,966
But actually, it was so small, it

2087
02:11:51,966 --> 02:11:53,666
was barely a footnote in history.

2088
02:11:54,033 --> 02:11:54,533
And certainly, the

2089
02:11:54,533 --> 02:11:56,633
character that you play is...

2090
02:11:57,033 --> 02:11:58,133
I mean, I don't think

2091
02:11:58,133 --> 02:11:59,166
he's based on a real person.

2092
02:11:59,433 --> 02:12:01,233
But even if he was, he would be the footest of

2093
02:12:01,233 --> 02:12:02,366
the footnotes in history.

2094
02:12:02,966 --> 02:12:05,100
But the game does such an amazing job of not

2095
02:12:05,100 --> 02:12:08,300
only making the game, the events of the game

2096
02:12:08,300 --> 02:12:10,666
feel much bigger than they are, because there

2097
02:12:10,666 --> 02:12:11,833
is whole world, because

2098
02:12:11,833 --> 02:12:13,300
you're so drawn into the character.

2099
02:12:14,266 --> 02:12:15,866
It feels like the whole world.

2100
02:12:15,866 --> 02:12:18,233
It feels like that these are grand events, even

2101
02:12:18,233 --> 02:12:18,833
though, realistically,

2102
02:12:19,033 --> 02:12:19,766
you know that they're not.

2103
02:12:19,766 --> 02:12:20,833
And it just does a

2104
02:12:20,833 --> 02:12:22,266
beautiful, beautiful job of that.

2105
02:12:22,600 --> 02:12:24,666
And there are some amazing scenes, some really

2106
02:12:24,666 --> 02:12:26,833
funny scenes, some things that really connect

2107
02:12:26,833 --> 02:12:27,666
you with the characters.

2108
02:12:28,199 --> 02:12:30,233
If you're at all

2109
02:12:30,233 --> 02:12:31,899
interested, definitely give it a go.

2110
02:12:31,899 --> 02:12:33,766
It's incredibly good fun, really memorable.

2111
02:12:34,033 --> 02:12:34,833
Stroge you, Rich.

2112
02:12:35,199 --> 02:12:35,800
Sorry, Luke.

2113
02:12:38,166 --> 02:12:39,033
That's my standout.

2114
02:12:39,066 --> 02:12:41,500
That's my one, if I could

2115
02:12:41,500 --> 02:12:42,366
give one recommendation.

2116
02:12:42,866 --> 02:12:44,366
And that's a hard recommendation to give,

2117
02:12:44,366 --> 02:12:45,266
because I've played lots and

2118
02:12:45,266 --> 02:12:46,466
lots of other fantastic games.

2119
02:12:46,466 --> 02:12:49,033
And if we do this again, if we catch up again

2120
02:12:49,033 --> 02:12:50,066
in the next four years, I'll

2121
02:12:50,066 --> 02:12:51,966
talk about some other ones as well.

2122
02:12:51,966 --> 02:12:52,766
For episode two.

2123
02:12:53,233 --> 02:12:53,966
For episode two.

2124
02:12:53,966 --> 02:12:54,833
Same time, next decade.

2125
02:12:54,833 --> 02:12:55,500
2029.

2126
02:12:58,666 --> 02:13:01,199
Look, we've all given...

2127
02:13:01,199 --> 02:13:03,866
We can't talk for too long, because our

2128
02:13:03,866 --> 02:13:04,766
episodes used to be like,

2129
02:13:04,966 --> 02:13:06,199
three and a half hours long.

2130
02:13:06,199 --> 02:13:07,233
We can't do that anymore.

2131
02:13:07,533 --> 02:13:09,366
We need to get in, be punchy in and out.

2132
02:13:10,166 --> 02:13:11,366
15-second videos, that's

2133
02:13:11,366 --> 02:13:12,333
what the kids like to watch.

2134
02:13:12,333 --> 02:13:13,133
We need to TikTok it.

2135
02:13:13,666 --> 02:13:16,899
So we're going to need to cut this shorter and

2136
02:13:16,899 --> 02:13:18,366
not drag it out for too long.

2137
02:13:18,366 --> 02:13:19,466
Look, it has been really, really

2138
02:13:19,466 --> 02:13:20,800
great catching up with all of you.

2139
02:13:21,199 --> 02:13:23,133
And it has been really good waffling nonsense

2140
02:13:23,133 --> 02:13:24,800
and talking about some fun stuff that we've

2141
02:13:24,800 --> 02:13:25,766
found over the last few years.

2142
02:13:25,766 --> 02:13:26,933
But we do need to do it again.

2143
02:13:26,933 --> 02:13:28,800
We need to make this more regular and possibly

2144
02:13:28,800 --> 02:13:29,933
talk about some more updated

2145
02:13:29,933 --> 02:13:31,966
things or more updated retro things.

2146
02:13:31,966 --> 02:13:33,033
Because you know what, Lee?

2147
02:13:33,833 --> 02:13:34,633
You can stay.

2148
02:13:38,500 --> 02:13:39,566
If you have me.

2149
02:13:40,133 --> 02:13:41,266
You know what?

2150
02:13:41,266 --> 02:13:45,033
I will try and find some shorter games, some

2151
02:13:45,033 --> 02:13:47,533
little punchy pluggy things that you might be

2152
02:13:47,533 --> 02:13:48,566
able to get your teeth into

2153
02:13:48,566 --> 02:13:49,833
without taking too much time.

2154
02:13:50,866 --> 02:13:52,766
And see if they take your fancy.

2155
02:13:53,366 --> 02:13:56,000
I'll take the challenge, but I have some ideas.

2156
02:13:57,300 --> 02:13:59,533
I tell you what, the retro scene is providing

2157
02:13:59,533 --> 02:14:01,033
loads and loads of new games.

2158
02:14:01,366 --> 02:14:02,833
I don't think I need to entice you.

2159
02:14:02,833 --> 02:14:05,933
And the nice thing about it is, let's just talk

2160
02:14:05,933 --> 02:14:07,033
about whatever the hell we want.

2161
02:14:07,366 --> 02:14:08,233
Let's just talk about anything.

2162
02:14:08,566 --> 02:14:10,199
Let's just talk about a meetup you've been to.

2163
02:14:10,199 --> 02:14:13,133
Let's talk about playing a LAN with your mates.

2164
02:14:13,566 --> 02:14:14,433
It doesn't have to be a

2165
02:14:14,433 --> 02:14:16,300
specific new up-to-date game.

2166
02:14:16,300 --> 02:14:17,433
Let's face it, it never was.

2167
02:14:18,066 --> 02:14:19,100
And it's not ever going to be.

2168
02:14:19,300 --> 02:14:21,566
So it doesn't make any difference at all.

2169
02:14:22,766 --> 02:14:25,433
Plus, some of the new games are so

2170
02:14:25,433 --> 02:14:28,266
prohibitively expensive for a lot of people.

2171
02:14:28,833 --> 02:14:29,066
Holy crap.

2172
02:14:29,066 --> 02:14:32,133
Like, we bring good games when

2173
02:14:32,133 --> 02:14:33,633
they're at reasonable prices.

2174
02:14:33,966 --> 02:14:35,066
And a reasonable price is

2175
02:14:35,066 --> 02:14:36,966
£15 or under, in my opinion.

2176
02:14:37,000 --> 02:14:39,133
We are the asda of gaming podcasts.

2177
02:14:39,666 --> 02:14:42,966
Actually, that might not be relevant anymore.

2178
02:14:42,966 --> 02:14:45,433
We're probably the oldie of gaming podcasts.

2179
02:14:47,100 --> 02:14:48,300
Welcome to Big Green Arrow.

2180
02:14:48,300 --> 02:14:49,633
Liddlest podcast.

2181
02:14:52,933 --> 02:14:58,666
I think we do need to do this again.

2182
02:14:58,666 --> 02:15:00,066
We do need to talk about other stuff.

2183
02:15:00,300 --> 02:15:01,966
Because we've probably got tons more that we

2184
02:15:01,966 --> 02:15:02,933
want to get off our chests.

2185
02:15:03,166 --> 02:15:05,066
But we are going to cut it

2186
02:15:05,066 --> 02:15:06,366
a little bit short today.

2187
02:15:07,233 --> 02:15:10,433
Try and keep it as sensible as we can for the

2188
02:15:10,433 --> 02:15:11,566
first time we've tried this.

2189
02:15:12,433 --> 02:15:12,633
Right.

2190
02:15:12,933 --> 02:15:15,366
In that case, we're going to do an outro.

2191
02:15:15,366 --> 02:15:16,566
Mine's going to be incredibly short, which is

2192
02:15:16,566 --> 02:15:18,033
going to be really easy to do.

2193
02:15:18,433 --> 02:15:19,433
So we'll go around.

2194
02:15:20,366 --> 02:15:21,633
Everybody say what you're thankful.

2195
02:15:21,899 --> 02:15:24,500
No, everybody say where people...

2196
02:15:26,766 --> 02:15:28,899
If you want people to find you online, if

2197
02:15:28,899 --> 02:15:30,733
you're interested with engaging with the

2198
02:15:30,733 --> 02:15:32,566
general public, you let people know where

2199
02:15:32,566 --> 02:15:34,066
people can find you online and

2200
02:15:34,066 --> 02:15:35,199
how they can engage with you.

2201
02:15:35,866 --> 02:15:36,633
We'll start with Ross

2202
02:15:36,633 --> 02:15:37,566
because he looks well prepared.

2203
02:15:41,699 --> 02:15:41,933
Always.

2204
02:15:42,566 --> 02:15:45,433
You can find me at Rossbell_ on Twitter if you

2205
02:15:45,433 --> 02:15:47,266
really, really want to go to that cesspool.

2206
02:15:48,866 --> 02:15:50,633
Mainly just find my golf podcast.

2207
02:15:50,866 --> 02:15:52,766
I'm a golf YouTuber these days.

2208
02:15:53,433 --> 02:15:55,566
It's a forecast golf podcast on YouTube.

2209
02:15:56,066 --> 02:15:56,533
Like and subscribe.

2210
02:15:58,433 --> 02:15:59,333
Like and subscribe?

2211
02:15:59,333 --> 02:16:00,266
I haven't heard that in so

2212
02:16:00,266 --> 02:16:01,433
long on something like this.

2213
02:16:01,433 --> 02:16:01,833
That's brilliant.

2214
02:16:02,433 --> 02:16:02,966
Elle, how about you?

2215
02:16:03,366 --> 02:16:07,133
I exist between the realms,

2216
02:16:07,800 --> 02:16:09,633
hopefully not able to be found.

2217
02:16:10,333 --> 02:16:13,433
But should the, I don't know, should the fancy

2218
02:16:13,433 --> 02:16:15,666
take you at escaping IRL?

2219
02:16:15,966 --> 02:16:17,833
Not that I generally frequent

2220
02:16:17,833 --> 02:16:19,566
such social media platforms.

2221
02:16:19,899 --> 02:16:20,133
On Twitter.

2222
02:16:20,433 --> 02:16:22,600
Far too busy forming people's nightmares.

2223
02:16:23,100 --> 02:16:23,300
Yeah.

2224
02:16:23,966 --> 02:16:24,166
Okay.

2225
02:16:25,066 --> 02:16:26,333
The people that need to know are Noah.

2226
02:16:27,633 --> 02:16:28,633
Speaking about the people that need to know

2227
02:16:28,633 --> 02:16:32,100
people, Lee, not that you need to tell anybody

2228
02:16:32,100 --> 02:16:33,933
where to find you, but just on the off chance

2229
02:16:33,933 --> 02:16:34,433
that there are some

2230
02:16:34,433 --> 02:16:35,766
uninformed luddites watching.

2231
02:16:36,333 --> 02:16:37,433
Where can people find you?

2232
02:16:38,533 --> 02:16:41,299
I am more fun making it over on the YouTube.

2233
02:16:41,299 --> 02:16:43,399
I'm also more fun fixing it, but more fun

2234
02:16:43,399 --> 02:16:46,033
making it on Blue Sky is social media.

2235
02:16:46,033 --> 02:16:47,966
But there's also a really,

2236
02:16:47,966 --> 02:16:49,333
really good Discord channel.

2237
02:16:49,333 --> 02:16:53,433
If you're interested in retro hardware repairs

2238
02:16:53,433 --> 02:16:57,266
or just the whole retro scene, and you want an

2239
02:16:57,266 --> 02:17:00,200
amazing community, it's quite a large community

2240
02:17:00,200 --> 02:17:02,633
now of like-minded people

2241
02:17:02,633 --> 02:17:04,166
that are super friendly.

2242
02:17:04,433 --> 02:17:06,766
It's a very, very safe place.

2243
02:17:06,766 --> 02:17:09,600
We keep a very close eye on what goes on there.

2244
02:17:10,266 --> 02:17:12,966
And all of the normal social

2245
02:17:12,966 --> 02:17:15,333
media nastiness doesn't exist there.

2246
02:17:15,733 --> 02:17:17,733
So if you can find links to that Discord, which

2247
02:17:17,733 --> 02:17:19,666
is the retro hardware Discord in any of my

2248
02:17:19,666 --> 02:17:21,033
videos, come and join us there.

2249
02:17:21,266 --> 02:17:21,666
Come say hello.

2250
02:17:21,966 --> 02:17:22,166
Brilliant.

2251
02:17:22,866 --> 02:17:25,266
You can find me absolutely nowhere.

2252
02:17:25,933 --> 02:17:28,566
I have his mobile number.

2253
02:17:28,566 --> 02:17:29,266
I'll just get it for you.

2254
02:17:29,266 --> 02:17:29,899
No, no, no.

2255
02:17:29,899 --> 02:17:30,399
We're all good.

2256
02:17:30,399 --> 02:17:32,533
Thank you very much.

2257
02:17:34,000 --> 02:17:34,899
Not doxing you.

2258
02:17:34,899 --> 02:17:36,299
This is our first time back.

2259
02:17:36,600 --> 02:17:36,799
Yeah.

2260
02:17:37,000 --> 02:17:37,266
Doxing.

2261
02:17:37,766 --> 02:17:39,000
Let's give my mobile number

2262
02:17:39,000 --> 02:17:40,266
out on the second episode.

2263
02:17:40,633 --> 02:17:41,166
That's the polite.

2264
02:17:41,166 --> 02:17:41,566
Oh my God.

2265
02:17:42,333 --> 02:17:43,533
Keep them wanting more.

2266
02:17:43,533 --> 02:17:43,933
You can't find me anywhere.

2267
02:17:44,266 --> 02:17:44,700
I am well off.

2268
02:17:44,700 --> 02:17:46,799
No, that's for people who win the lottery.

2269
02:17:47,166 --> 02:17:48,633
Like we'll do a draw.

2270
02:17:49,033 --> 02:17:49,566
Oh, thanks.

2271
02:17:49,766 --> 02:17:52,533
If you're really desperate, he is actually on

2272
02:17:52,533 --> 02:17:54,333
the retro hardware Discord, but he just doesn't

2273
02:17:54,333 --> 02:17:55,133
actually- I don't look.

2274
02:17:55,766 --> 02:17:56,399
There's no point

2275
02:17:56,399 --> 02:17:57,933
messaging me on any social media.

2276
02:17:57,933 --> 02:17:59,633
I don't delete my accounts because I'm not

2277
02:17:59,633 --> 02:18:01,933
somebody who desperately needs to delete their

2278
02:18:01,933 --> 02:18:02,833
accounts to prevent me

2279
02:18:02,833 --> 02:18:03,899
from going on social media.

2280
02:18:03,899 --> 02:18:04,799
I just don't go on them.

2281
02:18:05,066 --> 02:18:06,766
So if you do happen to find me on Twitter or

2282
02:18:06,766 --> 02:18:08,566
anywhere else, feel free to message me.

2283
02:18:08,566 --> 02:18:09,333
You won't get a response.

2284
02:18:09,766 --> 02:18:10,566
Not because I'm rude.

2285
02:18:11,966 --> 02:18:14,533
Not only because I'm rude, but because I am

2286
02:18:14,533 --> 02:18:15,799
simply not on social media.

2287
02:18:15,799 --> 02:18:17,066
I find it much easier for my

2288
02:18:17,066 --> 02:18:19,433
mental health to not bother at all.

2289
02:18:20,333 --> 02:18:21,533
I do have some YouTube videos

2290
02:18:21,533 --> 02:18:22,666
and you want to find me on YouTube.

2291
02:18:22,733 --> 02:18:23,866
You can look up newbie5,

2292
02:18:23,866 --> 02:18:25,299
but expect one YouTube a year.

2293
02:18:25,700 --> 02:18:29,666
If that, other than that, I will be here and I

2294
02:18:29,666 --> 02:18:31,466
will be talking to my friends and maybe you can

2295
02:18:31,466 --> 02:18:33,466
find me via them at some point.

2296
02:18:34,266 --> 02:18:34,466
Right.

2297
02:18:35,333 --> 02:18:35,533
Yeah.

2298
02:18:36,533 --> 02:18:38,966
I will be talking to these people who I am on

2299
02:18:38,966 --> 02:18:41,766
the podcast with, some of whom might like me,

2300
02:18:41,766 --> 02:18:43,466
but I haven't had that confirmed yet.

2301
02:18:43,466 --> 02:18:44,100
Possibly should have done

2302
02:18:44,100 --> 02:18:45,166
before the show started.

2303
02:18:45,966 --> 02:18:46,466
Thanks, Lee.

2304
02:18:49,533 --> 02:18:49,833
Right.

2305
02:18:50,033 --> 02:18:51,333
It's been an absolute pleasure

2306
02:18:51,333 --> 02:18:52,566
catching up with all of you again.

2307
02:18:52,899 --> 02:18:54,833
Thank you very much for joining me and talking

2308
02:18:54,833 --> 02:18:57,133
and we do need to do it again.

2309
02:18:57,133 --> 02:18:58,533
Let's not put a time on it and let's not

2310
02:18:58,533 --> 02:19:00,733
promise the earth because we are awful at this,

2311
02:19:01,500 --> 02:19:04,000
but let's try and get back together.

2312
02:19:04,000 --> 02:19:04,500
Do it again.

2313
02:19:04,933 --> 02:19:05,899
Soon ish.

2314
02:19:06,233 --> 02:19:08,500
Put something else out so that if people ever

2315
02:19:08,500 --> 02:19:11,266
watch this, they may be getting another episode

2316
02:19:11,266 --> 02:19:12,333
at some point in the future.

2317
02:19:12,333 --> 02:19:12,933
Does that sound fair?

2318
02:19:13,933 --> 02:19:14,200
Tomorrow night.

2319
02:19:15,000 --> 02:19:15,833
Tomorrow sounds great.

2320
02:19:15,833 --> 02:19:16,266
I'll be there.

2321
02:19:16,766 --> 02:19:16,966
Right.

2322
02:19:17,399 --> 02:19:18,233
Thank you, everybody.

2323
02:19:18,933 --> 02:19:20,366
If you are what we can't do

2324
02:19:20,366 --> 02:19:22,000
tomorrow, else got to do D&D.

2325
02:19:22,033 --> 02:19:22,666
Come on, Lee.

2326
02:19:22,666 --> 02:19:23,733
We've got to work around the schedule.

2327
02:19:25,033 --> 02:19:26,233
I've got a shrine to play.

2328
02:19:26,666 --> 02:19:27,000
What?

2329
02:19:28,166 --> 02:19:29,866
Yeah, that's a question for next time.

2330
02:19:31,633 --> 02:19:32,933
We're getting click fady already.

2331
02:19:33,200 --> 02:19:33,700
Fucking brilliant.

2332
02:19:37,133 --> 02:19:39,233
Look, you've got to have a cliffhanger to bring

2333
02:19:39,233 --> 02:19:41,366
you to my elves with this one neat trick.

2334
02:19:41,833 --> 02:19:42,033
Click.

2335
02:19:44,733 --> 02:19:45,899
Thank you very much, everybody.

2336
02:19:46,333 --> 02:19:47,399
If you are watching, thank

2337
02:19:47,399 --> 02:19:48,366
you very much for joining us.

2338
02:19:48,366 --> 02:19:50,733
If you watch and you listen to Ready Player Two

2339
02:19:50,733 --> 02:19:51,766
back in the day and you've come

2340
02:19:51,766 --> 02:19:53,266
back again, more power to you.

2341
02:19:53,266 --> 02:19:54,766
I can't believe you stayed with us this long.

2342
02:19:54,766 --> 02:19:55,899
I can't believe Lee's still

2343
02:19:55,899 --> 02:19:57,033
with us, let alone you lot.

2344
02:19:57,233 --> 02:19:58,100
So thank you very much.

2345
02:19:58,533 --> 02:19:59,899
We will hopefully come back soon.

2346
02:19:59,899 --> 02:20:00,766
We will talk more nonsense.

2347
02:20:00,966 --> 02:20:02,633
And if you do engage with any of these guys on

2348
02:20:02,633 --> 02:20:04,000
social media and you want to hear about

2349
02:20:04,133 --> 02:20:06,399
anything from us, there's any games you're

2350
02:20:06,399 --> 02:20:08,833
interested in talking about, any changes in the

2351
02:20:08,833 --> 02:20:10,933
gaming industry or anything at all that you

2352
02:20:10,933 --> 02:20:13,200
would like to hear us talk nonsense about in

2353
02:20:13,200 --> 02:20:16,366
absolutely no meaningful way, but with the

2354
02:20:16,366 --> 02:20:17,933
authority that makes it sound like we know what

2355
02:20:17,933 --> 02:20:19,766
we're talking about, then you let us know and

2356
02:20:19,766 --> 02:20:20,733
we will try and accommodate.

2357
02:20:21,466 --> 02:20:22,466
Thank you very much, everybody.

2358
02:20:22,966 --> 02:20:23,333
And goodbye.

2359
02:20:24,833 --> 02:20:25,100
Bye.
