Nine Mile Metals CEO Patrick Cruickshank joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss encouraging assay results from the company’s latest drill holes at the Wedge Mine in New Brunswick’s renowned Bathurst Mining Camp. The results confirm the presence of two distinct volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralized zones containing copper, zinc, lead, silver and gold, further supporting the growth potential of the project.
One drill hole, positioned in the southwest portion of the company’s current drill pattern, was collared to a depth of 224 metres and intersected significant mineralization across two separate zones. The upper zone returned a mineralized interval of 9.85 metres between 80.15 and 90 metres, while the lower zone intersected a broader 33-metre interval between 105 and 138 metres. Combined, the hole delivered 42.85 metres of mineralization, with metal grades strengthening at depth.
Cruickshank noted that the drill core contained classic VMS-style mineralization characterized by massive pyrite with visible chalcopyrite, sphalerite and galena hosted within felsic volcanic rocks and associated sediments. The distribution of metals varied between the two zones, reflecting the complex nature commonly seen in large VMS systems.
The upper zone demonstrated stronger silver and zinc mineralization, while the lower zone showed increasing copper values accompanied by significant silver and gold. Management believes this variation is consistent with mineral zoning patterns typically observed in mature VMS deposits and provides valuable geological information for refining the company’s exploration model.
Meanwhile, DDH WD-26-10 was collared in the southwest, at the edge of our drill pattern, to a depth of 224 meters and successfully intersected a 31.95m high grade VMS Zone consisting of a sulphide lens carrying copper, lead, zinc, silver and gold, with assays increasing with depth. The intersection assayed 2.52% Cu-Eq over 31.95m including 27.25m of 2.87% Cu-Eq and 14.15m of 3.73% Cu-Eq with 4.15m of 5.16% Cu-Eq.
Importantly, these drill holes completed in the southwest portion of the Wedge deposit, making the results particularly significant. The presence of solid copper mineralization alongside gold and silver suggests the western extension of the deposit may host additional resource growth opportunities beyond the currently defined mineralized areas.
Cruickshank explained that understanding how mineralization changes along strike and at depth is critical to building a comprehensive geological model. The latest results will be incorporated into Nine Mile’s live 3D modelling program, which is being used to enhance the understanding of the deposit’s geometry, mineral distribution and expansion potential.
The Wedge Mine is located within the prolific Bathurst Mining Camp, one of the world's most productive VMS districts, known for hosting numerous base and precious metal deposits. The company believes the new drill results strengthen the case for continued exploration and resource expansion within the western portion of the project.
