Greg welcomes Stephanie Smith of the Alabama Policy Institute (API) to discuss Alabama's school choice debate, the CHOOSE Act, and the future of education policy in the state.
Following API's annual dinner featuring Seth Dillon, CEO of The Babylon Bee, Greg and Stephanie turn to the November 3 election and recent comments from gubernatorial candidate Doug Jones, who has criticized the CHOOSE Act and referred to it as the "Drain Act."
Smith responds to Jones's concerns about public education funding, racial discrimination, accountability, and the role of private schools. She discusses the program's funding structure, participation by homeschool families, and the accountability requirements for participating education providers.
The conversation also explores the broader debate over school choice, parental decision-making, and educational accountability.
In the second half of the interview, Smith introduces the Alabama Policy Leaders Program, a nine-month initiative designed to develop future leaders grounded in free-market principles, limited government, strong families, and a Judeo-Christian worldview. She explains how the inaugural class of 12 participants will receive policy education and mentorship.
