After a short detour week, we're back! Join Ro and Joe and our first special guest Patrick as they wrap up the Comics Go Hollywood! series with the infamous sci-fi epic, Dune. It's bending the rules a tad, but hey, Dune "the property" is about as Hollywood as it gets in 2022! There's a tonne to chew on in this episode, kicking off with the long-running saga of discussing Thor: Love and Thunder, before we dive into the nature of adaptations, what they are and what makes them good. We discuss everything Dune we possibly know, from how we each got into the franchise, both of the movie adaptations, how they influence the comics we are looking at today, how design aesthetic can make or break a project, Lasguns, shields, and more!
The comics we will be looking at today include:
Dune: The Official Comic Book (1985) (Marvel Comics) - Adapted by Brian Adapted by Ralph Macchio, Illustrated by Bill Sienkiewicz, Colored by Michael Higgins and Pat DeFalco, Lettered by Joe Rosen
Frank Herbert's Dune: The Graphic Novel, Book 1: Dune (2020) (Abrams Comicarts) - Adapted by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson, Illustrated by Raúl Allén, lettered by Patricia Martín
You can buy these comics at most good comic stores or ask your local bookstore to try and order them. Alternatively, you can read these comics digitally on the Comixology app via Amazon.
