David Binns: Welcome back to the catalyst project podcast. My name is David bins and I am delighted to have a friend, a past client, a brother on this episode today. Mr. Will Schiller himself. Now what I do before every guest podcast is we usually jam out for about five to seven minutes and will nailed it because One of the beautiful things about our relationship is we live all of 200 meters away from each other. So we'll go skiing, we'll go hiking, we'll go running. And we have really profound conversations together. So the whole idea around today's episode are gonna be around the conversations that Will and I have when we're either running in the summer or skiing in the winter. So Will, welcome to the Catalyst Project Podcast. I am so pumped to get into this today.
Will Schiller: David, I'm honored, man. This is going to be killer. And, ⁓ I think this is like five years in the making for us finally hit record here. think after every conversation we have, it's like, damn, we should have recorded that, but, ⁓ here we are finally. well overdue, better late than never.
David Binns: Every single time we're together, we always say we should have recorded that. So here we are. First, I'd like to start off with giving the listeners and people even watching a little bit of context to who you are and what you actually do. Because I truly believe, and I've said this to you many times, when it comes to business strategy and content, you're very much behind the scenes of the industry and you're not about massive followings and buying Bentleys and private jets. And you really take what you... Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's part of the condition of the industry. But you take a real serious approach and a very dedicated approach to this. So why don't you open up a little bit just... I could never do it justice, so why don't you give it justice?
Will Schiller: Sure. start, I mean, I'll start from the top. mean, I've been in the online coaching and consulting game for about almost eight, nine years now. So coming up on a decade, ⁓ started in the health and fitness industry as personal trainer. transition my, my company online and, ⁓ Schiller fitness was that health and fitness coaching company started to do very well with that in 2017, 2018. ⁓ And started to get a lot of questions from other coaches and gym owners and different health professionals that way on how to grow their coaching business in the way that I was doing. everything was very public because I was on Instagram and different social media platforms that way with, ⁓ with my marketing. and I just, honestly, man, I say this in almost every interview. I never intended to become a business coach or get into consulting. ⁓ I very much.
David Binns: Okay. ⁓ Thank
Will Schiller: just fell into it by, by happenstance of, uh, of just demand that, that exploded in 2017, 2018. And, ever since then, man, I haven't looked back and to kind of, to your point, I primarily do, um, one-on-one private consulting with, uh, with a lot of the clients that I work with. I have some masterminds as well, but, um, I'm definitely, uh, a different business coach in the sense of, um, a lot of different people in my space have.
David Binns: And and
Will Schiller: big, masterminds and are scaling to the moon, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in ads and all these different things. ⁓ and for me, I'm kind of, I like to, to think I'm kind of behind the scenes and a little bit of a secret in the industry. and, ⁓ yeah, man. And, ⁓ and honestly, that's kind of, it kind of works with me and my style anyway, and my personality, but, ⁓ but yeah, man, I definitely absolutely love my work and.
David Binns: Mix two of us.
Will Schiller: primarily have a lot of carry over to you as well in terms of helping my clients understand that the type of person that they want to attract, they want to work with and create a premium coaching systems, ⁓ in relation to what their, their business goals are and their coaching goals are. ⁓ and I've been doing that for the last, yeah, about eight or nine years now. So, ⁓ it's a, it's an absolute, I say this all the time. It's.
David Binns: I think that's a good ⁓
Will Schiller: Yeah, there's there's always and we'll probably talk about it today. There's always stuff You don't love about what you do. It doesn't matter what it is. There's ⁓ Morgan and I have this saying there's there's hair on everything no matter what you choose to do for work, but ⁓ I gotta say man the freedom that we have in our life and To be able to make our own schedule and provide for our families in the way that we do It's a huge blessing and it's a huge honor to be able to call what I do every single day work to be honest with you. So ⁓ quick Coles Notes version of who I am, what I'm all about, but that's one way to kick it off.
David Binns: And you've got a lovely wife and a little army of toddler girls at home running around. Three of them.
Will Schiller: Indeed. Yeah. Little, little army for sure. You should see our, our breakfast situation and lunch situation. It's pretty wild, man. It's a, yeah, it's a mess, but all good things.
David Binns: And I think, you you bring up a really good question. Like how have you reserved yourself or regulated yourself against the temptation to inside of, you know, scaling, growing, going to the moon, you know, working with, ⁓ paid ads, built massive masterminds, building a huge machine. How have you resisted that? Because it is so tempting. You know, I've gone through it myself and I've let that go, but it is so tempting. to just go for the moon and how have you regulated yourself inside of that attraction in our industry?
Will Schiller: Well, I actually didn't resist myself, um, early on in, in 2020, 2021. Um, especially ever since COVID, the demand for specifically what I do in the health fitness industry just exploded. And I did skills of the moon. I scaled with tons of ads. I scaled with, uh, a lot of team members. had about 11 people working under me at one point in, uh, in 2020, 2021. and to be honest, man, I look back on that time and it was, it was crazy and it was intense, but it was also some of the, the most fun memories I have in the camaraderie of, of building something with a bunch of team members. I did love that aspect of it, but to answer your question more directly, ⁓ scaling like that comes with, ⁓ a lot of fast growth in a short amount of time, which means you break things, which means You sacrifice quality in some areas, which means you go maybe faster than you should. ⁓ and it started, it got to a point where it just didn't, it didn't align with my core values anymore in terms of how I like to live my life and the integrity that I have in, coaching and consulting. And in fact, it got so bad where, you know, I've talked about this, this was in September of 2020. ⁓ when Morgan and I just moved out West.
David Binns: I think it's a challenge in achieving something in agriculture and agriculture is a in future. I'm not sure if I that. I'm sure if I that. I think it's worth it. I think there's a lot of different reasons for that. think it's worth I think it. I think it's worth it. I think it's worth it. I think it's I think worth
Will Schiller: ⁓ my appendix burst and obviously there's the, scientific reasons for that, but I also think that, yeah, there's some more metaphysical stress related, ⁓ aspects to that as well. And that was a bit of a wake up call for me too, to kind of clean some things up in my, in my bro scaling days, if you will. and, ⁓ and yeah, man, I went through my long way in me saying I went through my version of that, ⁓ already. And it's almost, it's almost one of those things, right?
David Binns: Bye!
Will Schiller: If you, if you, don't know the stove is hot unless you touch it. Right. And I touched it in 2020, 2021. and to answer your question more directly in today's world, in terms of how I, I resist some of those feelings or, or let's say, um, just regulate myself from, from some of those feelings is, I know what it's like to scale the moon, to go fast, to break things and there's, there's times to do it. Don't get me wrong. Um,
David Binns: Thank you.
Will Schiller: In my stage of life right now, I love where I'm at. I love what I'm building. And for me, this might not be true for everyone, but it is true for me. And I know it's true for you too. ⁓ I like to feel good about the quality of my work. And in order for me to do that, sometimes I need to go slower or sometimes I need to deliberately not make as much money as I possibly could in any given month or any given quarter.
David Binns: Right Right
Will Schiller: Sometimes I need to focus on coaching systems. and we were just talking about this before this call, ⁓ it's two months into 2026 and I've barely posted on social media because I'm so busy working with clients right now. just got so much stuff on the go in a good way with just in the trenches work with my clients. so yeah, I, I went through my, my scaling phase, learned a lot, ⁓ have a lot of literal scars from it. ⁓
David Binns: I'm ⁓
Will Schiller: And, ⁓ and now I just know the alternative and. ⁓ I'm sure we'll talk about this in a second, but even in my work consulting other companies right now, ⁓ who are in the crazy, crazy growth stages. And like I said, everybody has different goals. There's no, there's no wrong or right way to do things. I want to make that clear. ⁓ but it's, it's intense, man scaling and going to the moon and making tons of revenue and.
David Binns: I think that in our current world, we are not as much of a are We in a very place. We a very a very different place. are We We We We in a place. We are different place. We are in a very place. We are a very place. are in place. in different in a place. different We in a place. place. place. in
Will Schiller: ⁓ having a lot of fires that you need to navigate every single day. ⁓ not just inside of the business, but also inside of the human, inside of the person, it's a lot to hold. ⁓ and if your, if your identity and your, your personal development path, let's say, ⁓ can't sustain it, it's going to cause issues in your life in different areas. And that was true for me, actually. It was, ⁓ not just in my health, but in my relationship.
David Binns: I'm not sure it right, but I'm not not sure if it I'm I'm it I'm I'm I'm I'm if I'm not I'm I'm not right. I'm not I'm sure right. I'm I'm not if if not if it right. I'm sure right. I'm
Will Schiller: And it took a year of cleaning up after that, ⁓ to just reset almost the foundation of my life, ⁓ without going too, too much into detail. So, so yeah, brother. I mean, I know that's a long way of answering your question, but, ⁓ also gives the listeners a little bit of, ⁓ of understanding in terms of my journey and path as well. And, ⁓ it's kind of where I'm at right now.
David Binns: Yeah, of course. Yeah, you know, I keep looking at the intake form that I have for all these podcasts. You filled yours out with incredible detail and you go on to say here, you know, my question to you on the intake form was. What is your own success forced you to confront internally that you didn't expect? And I'll just read the first sentence. Success forced me to confront how much my drive was rooted in proving an urgency. But what was the thing that you actually had to confront when you had this big machine, when things weren't going the way that you wanted to with Morgan, your health, et cetera, what was the thing that had you confront proving an urgency? Because. A lot of people have been down this journey. I went through this journey in real estate. I was top 25 in Canada with Keller Williams multiple years in a row and I was miserable. I had to confront a lot of things there. I've had to confront that in moving my business in my life all online. And I know what I've had to confront, but I'm really interested in what you actually had to confront and address.
Will Schiller: phenomenal question. What I needed to confront and address was coming face to face with the realization that what I was working so hard for in my coaching business and the results that I was just striving so hard for within that container, ⁓ was not going to give me the results that I was looking for in my life. And what those results were was, ⁓
David Binns: and I was just driving.
Will Schiller: My relationships was my legacy, how I'm knowing how I'm remembered, what I, what I feel like I'm here on earth to do. And when I was inside of that stage of just scaling to the moon, I was losing sight of that. And it was just so much on putting out fires day to day and just the, the, in the trenches work that is required inside of that, that phase of business. ⁓ and I just slowly started to almost drift further and further and further from what my intentions were and what my true vision was, not just in my business, but for my overall life. Right. And, and I almost had this moment where. If I kind of future paced me continually continuing on this path, it was going to create more destruction in my life than it was going to create more. ⁓
David Binns: Hmm.
Will Schiller: More of what I truly wanted, right. And more of the results that I wanted. So it quite literally was a. Yeah. Come to Jesus moment in, in understanding case, something needs to change here or else I'm going to have to clean up a bigger mess than I already do. And I had that moment and then I made some pretty drastic decisions and, yeah, just re retooled everything to the point to, to where it is now. But, ⁓
David Binns: I think it's important to support the people in the world. Right now, we have a lot of are passing on this to us. I'm just hoping that we can reach out to them. Also, when they pass, I'm that they can help us. I have one person that I have a friend who's been passing on to me. And I'm hoping that can help them with everything from the point of view of the world.
Will Schiller: Those were some, those were some pretty intense inner dialogue and conversations that I had to have with myself inside of that process. ⁓ but also curious to, to you to, hear about what that was for yourself as well.
David Binns: Well, it was really similar. was that I, you know, at the time I was chasing things that I thought that I wanted and I truly believe like in the frame of what I do, in a big part of what I do is walk people over the bridge from performance into presence. This a part of this I believe we as individuals as business leaders all Need to have that point of reckoning as an initiation to walk across the to be granted the privilege of walking across the bridge in living and building from presence so initially when I when the first time it happened, I got the email from my broker, Akella Williams. And she's like, David, you did it. Congratulations, top 25 in Canada. And I literally felt hollow looking at that. And I was miserable. And then my girlfriend at the time, we broke up. And then instead of going for drugs, women and booze, I came to terms with the fact that I was miserable being one of the top real estate agents in the country. so miserable that my girlfriend at the time didn't want to be with me. And I was 60 pounds heavier than I am today. I went inside to actually look at why I kept repeating this pattern of chasing, of proving, you even said it. And that was a huge turning point. That was back in 2016. And then fast forward, because you and I have hired each other over the years. I went through that again when I was coaching real estate agents. You know, we were doing 50, $75,000 months. And then I shut the whole thing down. I'm like, I do not want to do this. And that was really where the dream client identity engine was born, which is a big part of the work that I do with people because I had to come to terms with the fact that I had a way bigger commitment and difference to make in the world than to help realtors sell more real estate. I could literally care less about that. If you can't make a quarter million bucks bare minimum in real estate, you shouldn't be in real estate. Go get a job. I don't want to deal with that. And that's something I really had to come to terms with, which falls right into what you and I talk about a lot, which is identity. And I remember sitting in this chair in my office looking out this window. Who am I without real estate? Regardless of real estate agent or coach or a trainer, it didn't matter. It was the identity of real estate. I literally, over the course of about four months, sat with that question and it was terrifying. my entire identity was wrapped up in real estate. But I had to go through that to be able to do the work that I do today, which is authentically grounded in presence. If I stayed in real estate, that would have been more performance. If I kept coaching real estate agents, that's more performance. It was easy money. but I could no longer betray myself by doing something I no longer wanted to do, which was help real estate agents sell more homes. I don't care, and there's lots of great trainers out there. So those are two of my examples.
Will Schiller: Yeah, no, I'm with you, man. And just to reflect and piggyback off what you're saying. think that if you, if you haven't done some identity work on yourself and understand really who you are and what you want, especially in this game of, of let's say online coaching or just business in general, it's very, very easy to. Look at what other people are doing and then immediately have that be your goal as well. Right. Like that was very much true for me. And that's kind of what it turned into. Like my growth and scaling phase was slowly over time. This, this competitor is doing that. I need to keep up with him. This competitor hit this milestone. I need to hit that one. And that's how I started to build my business and started to turn it into a point where it's like, Whoa, hold up. Like are my goals even my own?
David Binns: Okay. I think that's do it. think that's a great way it. I think a great I think way do it. I think that's a great do it. I think that's a do I it. I think a great way I think great do it. I way to I a great think a great great it. I I
Will Schiller: Right. Or am I just trying to keep up with these other people, ⁓ who have totally different goals, totally different lives. And now that's turning into what my life was. And it wasn't, it wasn't in alignment. wasn't congruent with what I wanted. ⁓ and that's a very, very easy trap, especially in this industry. ⁓ a very easy trap to fall into. And if you haven't, if you don't have a relationship with yourself where you're able to.
David Binns: I think a start. I think that's a good I that's a good start. a good good think that's good way to I way to I think that's good to start. I think good way I think a good a good good
Will Schiller: check yourself for a minute and almost change course or realign what that North star is for you, which I had to do the hard way. And you did too. ⁓ some people can just stay stuck in building, building, building, or going in a certain direction that, ⁓ might not be true for them, might not be aligned with them. So that's a, an important element to think about as well.
David Binns: It really is the thing that's ⁓ As you share that You know, we did some really deep work and an intensive one day and I remember There was a big piece of your current business that was out of alignment and why I'm bringing this up is to bring on the court the identity work that's actually required and There were certain things that you wanted in your life, but you weren't giving yourself permission to have them. So you had these two problems. One, you're working with a set of individuals at the time, this was a while ago, that were not aligned with who you are, how you live, what you stand for, and what you do. But you also had these things that you really wanted. And without just for the sake of privacy, without getting into the details of that particular conversation, what was the big thing that unlocked for you? Because it wasn't a system. It wasn't marketing. It wasn't a strategy. It sure as heck wasn't AI. And I know I talk about AI fair bit. I'm a big proponent of it, but I'm not a proponent of it to go and try and fix your business because it won't. You have to. And the work that we did internally with you. shifted a ton for you in your business and in your life. But I want you to share, I don't want to share it. I want you to share what was that identity shift for you that resulted in these new behaviors and more importantly, these new results quickly.
Will Schiller: Mmm. Yeah. Good caveat to put on the end there. ⁓ and I'll speak to that, but for me specifically, was a deep rooted, ⁓ self-worth that I had an old story or an old pattern that was continually playing out inside of my life of what I was tolerating in certain aspects that was showing up inside of my coaching business. And what really helped in terms of what you're referring to are our intensive together.
David Binns: Yeah.
Will Schiller: I think that's about almost two years ago now, which is pretty wild to think about. ⁓ but yeah, in terms of being able to rewrite that story and shift very quickly and be able to see some different results very quickly was a lot of that conversation that we spoke about in that intensive of giving me a different perspective and helping me understand.
David Binns: I know, right? in different perspective, but helping me understand how to give back to people. Okay? I'm sorry for you.
Will Schiller: how to give myself permission, right? Not coming from you, not coming from anyone else, but giving myself permission to go after what I really want, to do the things I want to do, buy the things I want to buy, make the money I want to make, and love myself through it, right? And be okay through it and grant myself that permission. Because I think a lot of us, and this is your zone of genius, David, but.
David Binns: Mm-hmm. I just think I'm gonna buy a date for luncheon on a day. I think I'm be okay through it. I think I'm gonna have to wait until Friday to get my lunch. I'm gonna to wait get my I'm until get my lunch.
Will Schiller: A lot of us have what I had, these hidden stories, these hidden patterns that are kind of controlling the results that we're seeing in our life. And we aren't even aware to how much of an impact it has almost like a governor, right? On, you hitting certain levels, but you can never hit quite hit the peak of what you want to.
David Binns: I think that's a point. ⁓
Will Schiller: And it, it very much does come down to some of these deeper conversations that are rooted in an identity level of work. that is, is actually going to crack the code for you. Right. And for you to, be able to create that safe container for me in that session and help me through that, ⁓ was invaluable. and, ⁓ I'm definitely an action taker. I'm definitely someone who can, who can, ⁓
David Binns: ⁓ I'm definitely an advocate. I'm definitely someone who can.
Will Schiller: see patterns very quickly and change very quickly if I, if I see the, ⁓ the power to, which I did. ⁓ but it, also creates that conversation, ⁓ that is needed to, be able to facilitate that, right. And, get to that next point. And I have full credit to you for, creating that space, ⁓ two years ago now, which is pretty incredible.
David Binns: It is pretty incredible, right? Wow, time flies when you live up here. Time flies. But yeah, the thing I want to underline and impress on this, and I'm being a little brash and flippant for a moment, is that we hear a lot about mindset.
Will Schiller: Yeah, man.
David Binns: And if you're listening to this, want you to think through the pauses as I share this. What is mindset? Nobody to this day has ever been able to describe what it is by definition and This is actually something that I've been working on for a number of years to actually paint the picture and provide the model of what mindset actually is But mindset is actually Intended to alter our identity and produce new productive results Which is exactly what you did in that work that we've done together Mindset is a mystery. It's a marketing phenomena. There's no substance to it. But there is substance because you demonstrate the emotional maturity will to be able to have a powerful conversation and hold that and contain that within yourself and then go implement it. So sure, I provided the container in the conversation. But I can only do that inside of the context that somebody has the emotional maturity and self leadership to actually go and implement. And that takes a huge man right there, and that's you.
Will Schiller: Hmm. Yeah. Well, I appreciate that, man. That means a lot. I'll accept that compliment.
David Binns: Yeah, it's a big piece that is missing in this industry is a level of self leadership, a level of emotional maturity, of discernment, of... Acting on guidance and I know that's something that you and I talk about a lot and I think it is so important If you are listening to this is that you take immediate action on whatever the coaching Reflection the mirror or the instruction is from a coach mentor or an advisor And there's so many people that flip-flop between mentors. It's like, that's why you're not implementing what people say.
Will Schiller: Hmm. Yeah. And even to go deeper on that, like, especially in today's industry, it is. And this might be more so the dark side of AI and just the amount of information overload that we have specifically with content, but there are, there is so much out there in today's world. And like, I couldn't even imagine starting a business right now. I'm so glad I started almost 10 years ago. ⁓ like, ⁓ my gosh. I mean, don't get me wrong. There's, there's. It's very easy to start now because of the, ⁓ how much information is out there, but it's, I, in my opinion, think it's information overload as well. And it's so hard for our prehistoric human brains to be able to process all of this at once. And there is so much tactical information out there that any, if it's online coach or whatever line of work you're in, it's impossible to implement everything. And it's so easy to get caught.
David Binns: I'll put this to that one side. I should have asked it. I'm if should asked it. I'm not sure if if have asked it. I'm I'm not I asked I'm I'm sure should I'm if I'm I'm sure should it. I'm not sure if I I'm not I I'm not sure I should it. I'm sure if it. not sure have it. if I should it. I'm not sure if I it.
Will Schiller: in this dopamine loop of saving certain posts and trying to take action on this, follow this person, follow that person and buy this course and hire this mentor. And then you try something really quick and it doesn't work out. And then you hire this mentor. And I try very, very hard. And I feel like you do as well inside of our content, ⁓ to speak less about tactics and more to the identity of, of what it takes to run a successful business.
David Binns: I I
Will Schiller: how to conduct yourself accordingly, how to think, how to operate, how to shine light on certain shadow aspects of yourself that might take some cleaning up in order to see better results inside of your coaching business because there's a direct correlation there. That is the work of hiring a coach, right? And going deep like that because that is going to unlock aspects of growth of yourself, of...
David Binns: of having to take a very unique way of being like that. And actually, that's a lot more complex the other aspects book itself. But, seriously, I think it's a very unique explosive idea. And I hope that you guys will And I hope that guys stay connected with yourself, touch on yourself with it. And I hope you will find it interesting to read. I will definitely read it, especially the online world app you've been in.
Will Schiller: To use your words, containment and personal capacity to, see the results that you want to see, ⁓ that you've almost never expected of yourself or touched of yourself before. ⁓ and I, I feel like in today's world that we live in, especially the online world that we live in, it is very hard to decipher the signal from the noise, right? It's, it's becoming harder and harder because there is so much noise.
David Binns: it
Will Schiller: And you have to sift and sort through so much to be able to understand and, and pull out the gold of certain people or certain marketing or certain coaches, whatever it may be. and that's, ⁓ that's a challenge in today's marketplace. I will say.
David Binns: How do you advise people to block out that noise? You know, I know how I do it now. But I'd really love to hear that from your perspective of how do you block out that noise when it's gotten so loud over the last six years and it's only going to get stronger.
Will Schiller: Brilliant question. ⁓ I can, I can speak from my own experience. Everybody I'm sure has a different definition of this, but for me, it's actually not, not, not viewing, ⁓ the noise as bad because the problem in lies that a lot of the noise is can be helpful, right? A lot of the noise is actually good content, if you will. And the reason why I would classify it as noise is because You want to consume it all. You want to learn this thing, learn that tactic, watch that YouTube video, listen to that podcast, whatever it may be. That's why it's noises because it all, it is all helpful. Let's say content. ⁓ it would be very easy if it was shitty content and you just say, ⁓ I'm not going to see that. Cause it sucks. The problem is that a lot of it is good and helpful. the, the question then becomes, right. The question then becomes, okay, how can I have discernment in.
David Binns: You
Will Schiller: choosing, I use that word deliberately choosing what to consume based off of what will help my current situation and being able to accurately diagnose like what problem it is you're solving for right now in your life, in your coaching business, whatever it may be. And then be deliberate in choosing content based off that. ⁓
David Binns: Let's ⁓
Will Schiller: it to help you in that situation, I think is important. And I use the word choosing because, we all struggle with this because it's very easy to not choose and just say, ⁓ I got 10 minutes before my call scroll, scroll, scroll. And you're not choosing anymore. Now all of a sudden you are at the effect of the algorithm. Same with YouTube, same with whatever other social media platform of choice. ⁓ so I think having a, a bit of consciousness to
David Binns: What should I it for? I got sent it for my call. Swole, swole, swole. What should I use it I'll say that I have a job. I'm salesman. I work for a Merge. I'm a for a I'm salesman. I work a I'm salesman. I I'm a I I I'm a I a I'm a for a company Merge. I'm a Merge. salesman. for Merge.
Will Schiller: consuming ⁓ and having choice to it, I think is important instead of falling into the trap of the algorithm and then letting it just take you wherever it wants to take you.
David Binns: Yeah, it's so true. Adele and I just had a conversation about this two days ago and she brought up our human design. So you know that human design is a big part of my life. ⁓ And she said, she goes, sweetheart. We both have the open centers, basically like around our head and in our chest. You know this about me, like I walk into a room and I know everything that's going on with everybody. Like I just pick up on everything. So if I go onto Instagram, how I feel if I've consumed an hour of Instagram in a day versus 15 minutes, it is night and day.
Will Schiller: Yeah, you do.
David Binns: completely night and day. And I think that is one of the most important things for people to do, is to bring a level of responsibility and discernment to their consumption. I'm only creating and posting and I'll interact and consume for maybe 10 minutes a day tops. And it's, I'm a completely different person. I'm very susceptible to that. So I gotta be responsible for it.
Will Schiller: Hmm. Completely agree, man. I, I'm actually seeing like big name creators, ⁓ say the same thing. It's like they, they will create, they will post, they will maybe answer a little bit of comments and DMS and they have those boundaries, like where they're allowed to do that. And then they have bright lines to be able to shut it off. And I, I'm actually seeing a lot of like big names come out and say that I do that myself. You know, I have two phones and I talk about this a lot. have my work phone, which is this one. And then I have. My other phone, which is in my truck that has nothing on it except for a call and text and photos. And, I I'm not perfect, but I try to leave this one that has Instagram email, Slack, everything. I try to leave this one here as much as I possibly can. Um, and then I got my bat phone that, uh, that I take home for emergencies and stuff like that. And only friends and family member have that number, but, um, you sure do brother. You sure do. Um,
David Binns: Do I have that number? Okay.
Will Schiller: But I, but I do that. have bright lines like that because like, I'm not smarter than the, the people at Instagram and the people would email. Like I can't, I can't pretend I have this world-class discipline. Like I will a hundred percent guarantee you. I will check this a couple of times at dinner or while I'm watching TV with my girls. And I hate that about myself, right? Like I don't want to do that. So I have systems and bright lines. I consciously designed my environment so that
David Binns: No.
Will Schiller: I make the optimal choice optimal, right? James Clear stuff.
David Binns: Dude I love that I love that I tried it it didn't work, but you're inspiring me to try it again Do the bat phone so that's that's my promise to you is I'm gonna take that on again ⁓ it is yeah, but it's all good
Will Schiller: I love it, man. It's hard. It's hard, but right. Yep.
David Binns: You wanted to, know, before we got started, you said, I want to turn the tables and I want to ask you some questions. So. The floor is yours. We've now officially turned the table.
Will Schiller: Okay. I'm going to start with this one because it's definitely on brand and in alignment with everything that you're building right now, in terms of what you've been talking about, let's say for the last six months, probably a little bit more of presence versus performance. I have a two-part question here, which is a, why, why is this the leading spear in your marketing right now? And. B, how are you practicing this in your own life?
David Binns: Great question. So this is one of the primary and fundamental distinctions of my work, because it is the precise journey that I have been on for the better part of three years. You know, because you were one of three or four people that are very close to me, of what Adele and I navigated for the better part of four years and the consequence of that on my wellbeing, my business, et cetera. But at the same time, it was also one of the greatest gifts. And that started to come to me. I didn't come up with that. This may sound mystical, but I didn't come up with that. It was given to me. And I truly mean that. And then I began to sat with it, sit with it, and sit with it even more and more. And I began to notice a palpable distinct difference in how I was being and operating in my life. And when I reflected on performance, in a summary of performance is that it's grounded in fear, shame, guilt, force, obligation, should, have to, need to, and more. That is most of the industry. And then I went away to a program called the Hoffman process on December 1st, 2022. And I completed that program on December 9th, 2022. And I've worked with some of the best of the best in childhood healing, spirituality. I've done Vipassana, which is a 14 day meditation retreat, spread me 10 day meditation retreat. I was trained by the people who Created the personal development industry like I've been around the top for a very long time, but the one thing I never understood Was God I didn't get it I had no idea what it was. So I would say the universe, the cosmos, source, because that's what I knew. And I had no judgment about God, but I never knew him. And then at the Hoffman process, deep in a meditation, I met God. And I literally fell back, didn't fall back, but leaned back in my chair with my eyes closed, and I was like... Okay. I'm here. Like, I'm here for it. And then as I, and so I'll move fast forward from that, as I really began to sit inside of this message of presence over performance, this whole other world began to unfold. Now for context, and I just recorded and posted a podcast the other day on this, presence is grounded. in love, allowing, receiving, forgiveness, compassion, empathy. What produces greater results? And this isn't about producing because if we make presence about producing, that becomes presence shrouded in performance. But what is more powerful when it comes to producing a result or producing our work? Fear or love? If we go into the map of consciousness, Shame and guilt are the two lowest vibrations a human being can operate at. They are the primary fuel source of performance. The primary fuel source of presence is love. But what's the access point? When I sat here in this office, realizing who am I without the identity of real estate, stepping into who I am now, what's the access point? It's faith. because we can only walk into the unknown and across the bridge from performance into presence by way of faith. Does that answer your question?
Will Schiller: Yeah, absolutely man. And what's, what are some examples of that in, how you live right now?
David Binns: The most clear example is I did a psilocybin ceremony with one of my confidants, and he was a shaman, on January 30th. 2025 and I shared the content of that in Where I'm being called to go and grow More importantly of where I'm being called to serve That would be the performative David would start reaching out to people, DM people, he would chase, he would force an outcome. But the David grounded in presence has unwavering faith, unwavering trust, and unwavering knowing that it's happening. And I'm not gonna get into the particulars of it just for my own privacy, I'd rather keep that private for now, but I'm being called to a very high place in this industry. And I was just around in Florida some of those people. of who I'm being called to work with. But I have not DM'd them. I have not reached out to them because I know those were coincidences that are evidence to show that I'm on the right path. That there takes an unwavering trust, unwavering faith that where I'm being called to go and grow demands that I be my work. It's not optional. I could very I'm incredibly intelligent intelligent at what I do. I could easily connect with those people I'm one degree away of separation from those people right now And I haven't reached out I sent one DM to one guy like four months ago, and then I've left it Sorry two DMS and then I left it So I'm just sitting in and being in Presence knowing that it's all going to unfold
Will Schiller: that and how do you bring that into your work into your coaching and your consulting with clients?
David Binns: So this is a really, like I said, it's a foundational distinction of my work, but I have created a pathway and a process for people to go over the bridge from performance into presence. This is not one conversation, it's not a three-day intensive, it is a process. But I work with people. to really decondition. I would say they're wounding and they're emotional blocks that are inhibiting their view of who they actually are and what they actually want. Now to make that a little bit more practical, everybody has a sabotage pattern and a sabotage strategy. But everyone thinks that that's something that happens to them. It's not. It's something that you willfully deploy to intentionally make right certain emotions. You were doing it, and we cleared that out. That's one example. then we have to do some other deep work to begin to prepare people to walk across the bridge from performance into presence. And then that bridge requires faith. But there are particular teachings and learnings that people must discover along the way, like picking up keys, which will ultimately lead them to embodying presence. which is grounded in peace and love.
Will Schiller: Beautiful, beautiful men. And with that, in terms of when clients hire you and decide to work with you, what place are they starting from? Like, what is the pain? What are the problems that you help them solve at the beginning stages?
David Binns: Mm-hmm. So there's really two big pieces. Number one is... They're filled up with resentment. They're exhausted. They have varying forms of chaos in their business and in their life. and or I do dream client identity engine work with them. It's really twofold because the dream client, as you know, it's the fuel source for everything. Our content, our messaging, our fulfillment, how we feel about our business. It's everything. That's a whole other podcast, but When we actually look at performance over presence, that is the primary function of what I actually do. So yeah, do me a favor and ask that question again.
Will Schiller: What, what pain and what problems do you see your clients are dealing with at the beginning stages of work? ⁓
David Binns: Yeah. Yeah, okay. So the symptoms are resentment, frustration, chaos, anger, and force. They experience this through self-sabotage, self-sacrifice, and self-betrayal. when we are self-sacrificing, self-betraying, self-sabotaging. These are like self, in a way they are, they're self punishments. And those all fall in the bucket of living from performance. And performance by way of acting is grounded in force. And if you take, if you're listening to this episode, and even you right now, Will, if you pull out 30,000 feet and you look at this industry, there is a massive reckoning. of people going from performance into presence. I am seeing it all over the place, not just with my clients, but all over the industry. because we have the speed of AI. We've got Russia, Ukraine, Epstein files, the US potentially going after Iran as of the time of this recording on February 24th. all of these different things. had Israel-Palestine. And all of that chaos. is having a huge migration of people being called into presence. It's rampant. It's all over the place.
Will Schiller: Yeah. I definitely agree with you on that. Um, what, just to piggyback off that, what patterns do you see some of your clients or just some of your colleagues fall into when they are actively solving this problem and they're, they're aware to it. Um, but they start to self-sabotage. What, does that specifically look like in the inside of your work?
David Binns: Yeah, so typically once I've done the self-sabotage and sabotage pattern work with people, there's a far greater awareness around it they can pick it up really quickly. But then once the default mode network of the brain or the ego knows or the subconscious knows that we are coming after it, because we are. It will come up with covert ways that trigger self-doubt and a lack of self-trust. So people will go if they're taking off because we literally, metaphorically use the term of we've hit the end of the runway of performance and we're building a new runway of presence. But once you get on the new runway of presence, your brain will activate self-doubt and a lack of self-trust in the direction that you are choosing to go, which is authentic to your desire. That is why between performance and presence, the access point is faith. When we have unwavering faith in ourselves, unwavering faith in our direction and mission. and unwavering faith in God, whatever that is for you. That's the key. So when the self doubt, when the lack of self trust, when confusion arise, those are the opportunities to invoke a whole new level of faith in ourself, our mission and God. And again, God, whatever that is for you.
Will Schiller: Yeah. Beautiful, man. I love that. And inside of this work, how do you see it evolving ⁓ over time?
David Binns: Great question. So how I see it evolving over time is this year we're launching a mastermind model. It's not gonna be your typical kind of mastermind. It's gonna be very small, very exclusive, very deep, very intentional for people in the industry. And a prerequisite of that, you'd have to work with me first in order to gain entry into this. So continuing to do my work with elite coaches online, and I've got a lot of... really big business leaders, like CEOs coming to me as well. So I'm building that, building out that book or that side of the business. But ultimately it's gonna be taking this work in a mastermind model and training other people in this methodology. So there's really those three components. The biggest impact that I will make is by training other people in this methodology. And for me to train them in the methodology, they have to go through the methodology.
Will Schiller: Yeah. And what are you like based off that? How do you see the industry as a whole? Like apart from your work, how do you see the industry evolving with a lot of the things that you just mentioned?
David Binns: I think that there's a great reckoning underway ⁓ Where the pretenders or the money grabbers are gonna be left on the wayside ⁓ The future of this industry in my opinion is without question embodiment If you are not living what you teach with grace, it's not about being ⁓ perfect But if you're not living what you teach, you don't have a business. You have something on the internet that makes money and frankly takes money from people. The future leaders in this industry will be and are the embodiment of what they stand for, believe and teach. And there is a great reckoning happening. of people who aren't living what they teach and they're literally falling by the wayside and going and getting a job.
Will Schiller: Yeah. I was just going to say, I'm actually seeing that very, very much currently and over the last year or so big time, because if you're not actually Hormozi talks a lot about this is if you, if you're not speaking from experience, your content in your message is just fluff. Like it just is right. It's only the people who are speaking from experience that are doing well inside of this game. And it makes sense because. That's that's speaking from a place of truth, right? Speaking from a place of what's real. It's speaking from a place of what someone's done instead of theory, instead of this could work, that could work, you know? And that's, that's very much what people are attracted to, especially on social media and in content and things like that. And in these days is what are you doing? What have you done? What experiences, what results have you gotten? And for the ones who don't have that, it's essentially impossible to be able to, to
David Binns: It's a great opportunity to share experience with community and the community.
Will Schiller: make any sort of traction.
David Binns: Yep, and I think the other piece around this is ⁓ Which something you and I have talked about is building an AI resistant business Now the access point to building from my view an AI resistant business is building a transformational body of work and then living that and expanding that and that's you know, apart from expanding my body of work with one-on-one clients, elite coaches, business leaders, the mastermind teaching others, the foundation underneath all of that, which I'm working on now, is building out my complete body of work, all the transformational models, all of the trainings, everything, because from my frame of understanding at the moment, The one, if there's one thing that AI will never be able to replace, besides manual labor like cleaning windows or something, is the energetic and intuitive style of work that I do. You even do that with what you do inside of content. That won't get replaced. The energetic, the actual energetic exchange that we cannot see that is happening being to being, a computer cannot do that. Because I have 45 years on this planet in the flesh, experiences, training, traumas, victories, wins, all these different things. A computer can't do that.
Will Schiller: Yep. I'm with you, man. ⁓ I also think that's like a lot of people say like, ⁓ AI is coming for your jobs and AI is going to outsource you. And I, I always respond with it definitely will with a lot of different entry level jobs, but people like consulting and coaching isn't a new thing. Like people have been hiring, let's say mentors for. Thousands of years, you know, like someone who's ahead of you and the thing that you want to learn. And then you, you get them to teach you what that thing is. Like it's, it's just how we're built as, as humans. And I think that people aren't going to want AI mentors are going to want human mentors. I mean, I could eat my words there, but that's
David Binns: Thanks for watching and I'll Thank Yeah, I don't disagree because part of what I think it will impact it but part of what I cover which you know inside of the dream client identity engine is the frequency match between you and your existing clients I Already know most of your clients have a beard or facial hair or around the same height or a white Caucasian male around the same age as you. It's a frequency game. And a computer will not, for people who are truly dedicated and true professionals in this industry, that's never gonna go away. It's no surprise. All of you are and I are very, very similar. Sergio and I are basically identical. Travis and I have tons of similarities. Dr. Walker and I have tons of similarities. I could go on and on and on and on, but all my clients, AI is not going to replace that. It will replace for the juvenile practitioner or the unprofessional practitioner. Yeah, I think it is going to have a big impact on them. But for people who have tenure respect, clout, credibility in a network, you're gonna be just fine. You're gonna have to adapt, but you'll be just fine.
Will Schiller: Yeah, I agree with you on that. Cool, brother. Well, how do you want to land the plane on the podcast?
David Binns: What's one really exciting project that you're not talking about that you want to talk about? Or what's one thing that you're committed to creating this year that you didn't think was possible 12 months ago?
Will Schiller: Man, good question. ⁓ I'm actually not going to answer this through the lens of business. I'm going to answer it through the lens of my family dynamic because I've always, and this is, this is actually a true example of me living from presence versus performance. So this is a great example to kind of tie tie or close a loop here. Obviously, as you know, and if the listeners don't know, I've got three daughters, ⁓ under the age of three. So life is pretty wild for me right now, but, but something I'm committed to, and I'm super excited about is being able to consciously design my work and the hours that I work and kind of what my schedule looks like in alignment with creating memories. And if we do homeschooling or whatever it may be down the road, ⁓
David Binns: That's pretty good.
Will Schiller: in alignment with them and what those, what those experiences are going to be that we want to create as a family. ⁓ and that's something that I always had the goal of, and I always wanted to achieve and, and create my own version of, but I always thought that'll happen when I'm XYZ age, you know, and I have XYZ amount with my bank account and all of these, you know, what if, when I get to the top of the mountain and as of recently I've, I've come to understand, ⁓
David Binns: I'm about the next week's event.
Will Schiller: It's, not, ⁓ if then, or whatever it may be, it's you can start doing some of this now and there's, there's no, ⁓ there's no certain milestone that you need to hit before consciously designing your life in the exact way that you want to. And that's, and for me, that's, that's huge. And again, giving myself permission, not just in my business or money or financial, ⁓ gain, but also in my family and what those goals look like as well, because they're
David Binns: I'm sure if to do this.
Will Schiller: very much interconnected, but also, ⁓ even more important, right. Is my family, let alone my business. So, so some of those dynamics, man, and goal setting and just scheduling out what these, these next couple of years are going to look like between Morgan and I, I'm pumped about man, because even to your point, like, and not to, not to totally derail this whole podcast, but everything that is coming out in the news right now is. The devil, just say it is, the darkest of dark, right? It just is what it is. And I feel that there's like, you can't control what's coming out. You can't control, ⁓ some of these different elements, but what you can control is yourself. What you can control is how you live your life. What you can control are the decisions that you make and choosing light and choosing love over fear and doing that in the different domains in life, not just your business, but
David Binns: Yep. I'm I'm going to show you a couple of different elements of the use of microtransformers. Microtransformers are highly effective in use of They can be used many different ways. They be domains in life, not just in business, but in different domains in life. So I'm you a couple of ways to
Will Schiller: doing that in different domains in life that are important to you, I think is incredible. And we still all have that privilege, right? And I use that word deliberately. So using that and living from that and making decisions from that place, I think is key. So anyway, long way me saying that's what I'm extremely excited about right now. And I can definitely find some light in these recent times that we're living in right now, for sure.
David Binns: That's amazing. And if people want to connect with you, all included in the show notes below. But what's the best way to connect with you?
Will Schiller: I would say Instagram's the best way. ⁓ At Will Schiller Consulting, that's usually where I'm the most active. ⁓ I've got a podcast as well, Create From Truth podcast. You guys can check that out. And those are the best ways to connect with me right now.
David Binns: Okay, amazing man. Well look, thanks so much for being here and we gotta get together on the hill soon.
Will Schiller: Absolutely, man. It's calling our name. Been too long.
David Binns: All right, well Thanks so much for being here and if you tuned in Send either will or myself a note on Instagram with what you got for yourself out of this episode and otherwise We'll see you on the next one. Bye for now
Will Schiller: David, I'm honored, man.
Bye for now
