00:00:00
Speaker 1: It's Marcus in the morning. Producer Taylor is here as well. It's Thursday. Thank goodness. Week's almost over. I had a nightmare that everybody wanted money from me in the weirdest. So I, okay. So step one, I went out and bought a car without actually needing a new car. So there's a car payment.
00:00:19
Speaker 2: Okay.
00:00:19
Speaker 1: Step two, my mom just started low key sending me Venmo's for $ 9, 000.
00:00:24
Speaker 3: Okay.
00:00:24
Speaker 1: And she sent three of them and they were auto drafts. So like I, the money just left. okay and i woke up in a cold sweat it was so stupid like so dumb like tell me you're worried about the cost of living without telling me you're worried about the cost of living.
00:00:39
Speaker 4: That's hilarious don't you have that kind of situation anyway.
00:00:42
Speaker 1: Yeah dude existing is so expensive right i don't even know i don't even know how we do it anyway sorry that's a little bit too much truth right there how are you how are you Trivia last night at the Outer Sunset, huh?
00:00:56
Speaker 2: It was lit last night. People showed up. It was good vibes.
00:01:00
Speaker 1: A riptide.
00:01:01
Speaker 4: I got home at a reasonable hour, went to bed. I really passed out last night.
00:01:07
Speaker 1: It's amazing to me because Taylor just got a new iPad.
00:01:10
Speaker 2: I did.
00:01:11
Speaker 1: So I thought you'd be doom scrolling.
00:01:13
Speaker 4: I couldn't full-blown iPad baby like I wanted to yesterday because I had actual life responsibilities.
00:01:19
Speaker 3: Boo.
00:01:20
Speaker 5: But.
00:01:21
Speaker 4: I will be doing it probably either today or tomorrow.
00:01:25
Speaker 1: Can't wait.
00:01:26
Speaker 2: I know.
00:01:26
Speaker 1: Me too.
00:01:28
Speaker 2: You're telling me.
00:01:28
Speaker 1: All right. I learned a new word today. Micropractice.
00:01:33
Speaker 4: That's a cute word.
00:01:34
Speaker 1: Little micropractices you can do every single day for your own well-being. A micropractice is something you can accomplish in less than 30 seconds. Because we all know life comes hard and fast at us.
00:01:44
Speaker 2: It's true.
00:01:44
Speaker 1: So there was this gigantic survey. And they asked people, like, what are some things you do to maintain your well-being? You know, the big hitters are all kind of the same. Three out of four people say they eat fresh foods, veggies, run, walk, cycle, do other outdoor exercise, meditation, mindfulness. But what if I don't have time for all that? True. So here are some little things you can do for under 30 seconds to just boost your mood. Micro dancing. Get up, dance for 30 seconds, sit back down, get back on your iPad. Am I right?
00:02:13
Speaker 2: I've heard that actually does help.
00:02:14
Speaker 1: I love dancing.
00:02:16
Speaker 2: I do too.
00:02:17
Speaker 1: If I wasn't going to be judged, I would take a Zumba class.
00:02:21
Speaker 2: I've done Zumba before. It's actually really fun. You should do it.
00:02:25
Speaker 1: When I get the right song going, my Latino blood gets boiling and all of us are cosita buena la rumba.
00:02:32
Speaker 2: You should do it.
00:02:32
Speaker 1: You know what?
00:02:33
Speaker 2: To be cringe is to be free, Marcus.
00:02:35
Speaker 1: You should do it. And what? Let you come in video?
00:02:38
Speaker 2: Absolutely. Absolutely. I would love that.
00:02:42
Speaker 1: Something else you can do is a micro practice. Everyday loving kindness. Give people you encounter throughout the day mental well wishes. You can say it out loud. You could say it in your head. May you be safe. May you be happy. May you be healthy. May you live with ease.
00:02:58
Speaker 2: I do this.
00:02:59
Speaker 1: I do this in the office just the other day. Namaste. The light in me recognizes and bows to the light in you.
00:03:04
Speaker 2: You do do that.
00:03:06
Speaker 1: I'm half serious.
00:03:07
Speaker 6: Yeah. I don't know.
00:03:09
Speaker 2: I feel like I always just try to be positive and spread the light.
00:03:12
Speaker 1: You know, I like to give people smiles when they're not expecting it. Like walking down the street in public and you just see somebody and you just smile and you could say hello. Hey, how you doing? It's weird to me when somebody walks right by you on the street and you're not even there. You're dead.
00:03:28
Speaker 4: It depends on where you are because if you're in the city, I'm not trying to make eye contact with any of these people. But if I'm at home in Los Gatos and you walk by someone and you don't acknowledge, we.
00:03:38
Speaker 2: Might have beef.
00:03:39
Speaker 1: My ex-wife used to get on me about what she called my FU face. Like your RBF? Yeah, because I'm the guy everybody comes up to talk to. I just have that look.
00:03:48
Speaker 2: Yeah, you do.
00:03:51
Speaker 3: I don't know.
00:03:51
Speaker 1: Got to work on my RBF. And finally, micro-practice to make your day a little better. Everyday appreciative joy. Whenever you feel jealousy creeping in, and it's so easy to be a hater when you see somebody online perceivably doing better than you are, switch your thinking to, you know what? Let me celebrate my wins, and congratulations. I know.
00:04:12
Speaker 4: I had that epiphany the other day. I was kind of like going off, and I was like, wait, you know what?
00:04:17
Speaker 2: I do this.
00:04:18
Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
00:04:19
Speaker 2: Like, I can't get that bad.
00:04:21
Speaker 1: Anytime somebody says to me, hey, you heard so-and-so got this award or did this or whatever. I'm old enough now where I just go, you know what? Good for them.
00:04:28
Speaker 4: Well, I feel like if you're upset about other people's success, that says more about you.
00:04:33
Speaker 2: You know, you should be happy for everybody, I feel like.
00:04:35
Speaker 6: Yeah.
00:04:36
Speaker 1: Anyway, micro practices make your day a little bit better. If you got one to add, as always, talk back open. The little red microphone. If you're streaming Star 101.3 right now, you can leave us a message. A member of our listening audience needs our help. Okay. And this would be great. If you're listening right now and you have experience with real estate and stuff, her name is Maddie. She lives in Livermore. She says, good morning, Marcus. Good morning, Taylor. I listen every morning. I have a question. I'm trying to decide whether buying my childhood home is a good idea, even if my longtime boyfriend doesn't want to. Said my father passed away last year, left me an inheritance. And I have an opportunity to buy my childhood home from my mom. She wants to downsize. I will admit it's bigger house, more house than my boyfriend and I need right now. And owning the house I grew up in is more emotional than a practical decision. My boyfriend thinks it's a terrible idea. He says between the mortgage, the taxes, utilities, and maintenance will actually be worse off financially than we are. I know we will have to tighten our belts, but I also think owning a house like this could be a huge benefit. Um, I can't do it without his income, and he's digging in his heels. I don't think he understands how much this house means to me, but maybe he thinks I'm letting sentimentality cloud my judgment. I know I can't force him into a financial commitment, but opportunities like this don't come around twice. How do I convince him it's worth doing, even if it doesn't make perfect financial sense right now? Now, there are a few keys in there. First of all, young lady, what are you doing buying a house with a boyfriend?
00:06:08
Speaker 2: Well, I was going to say you had me there for a second, but.
00:06:12
Speaker 1: I knew the second I said the word boyfriend, you were going to be like, what?
00:06:15
Speaker 2: Right. Like, what are we doing?
00:06:17
Speaker 4: But then also, too, I feel like you if you need his income to do this, you are not financially equipped to do something like this. And then also, if you break up and he decides to stop being financially supportive, what are you going to do?
00:06:32
Speaker 7: Yeah.
00:06:33
Speaker 1: So I point I think one person has to buy the other person out. I have no idea.
00:06:36
Speaker 4: Right.
00:06:37
Speaker 2: I don't know.
00:06:38
Speaker 4: I don't think it's about convincing your boyfriend. I don't think that's a good idea. I genuinely think that this is a bad idea for you. I think that you might not end up with the results that you want in the long term if you go down this route.
00:06:52
Speaker 1: I would agree with that in a thousand years. And I know people do it. No shade. But I would never buy a property with a boyfriend, girlfriend or any friend. No, man.
00:07:01
Speaker 2: Absolutely.
00:07:02
Speaker 1: I already know where you're at on this.
00:07:04
Speaker 2: Absolutely not.
00:07:05
Speaker 4: Well, also, too, you just don't want to put yourself in a situation where you cannot support yourself because you just with anybody ever. You cannot rely 100 percent on somebody else, especially if you're not married to them.
00:07:17
Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
00:07:18
Speaker 4: Right.
00:07:18
Speaker 2: Because at least when you're married, you have that like a little bit more of a. the reliability.
00:07:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, of course.
00:07:24
Speaker 2: But I mean, this is just a boyfriend. You guys could fight and we could take off next week. So yeah, I don't know. Bad idea.
00:07:30
Speaker 1: I mean, for me, like we own our house, my plan is my daughter awake yet. My plan is to will it to her and sell it to her for a dollar.
00:07:39
Speaker 2: Oh, that's sweet.
00:07:39
Speaker 1: Because otherwise, how is she going to afford housing in the Bay? That's the plan. Now, I don't know what Maddie's mom's financial situation is. Maybe she needs the money. She needs to sell, but maybe moms can give her a break on, on the cost. Matty, if you really want this house, what I would do is figure out a way to do it without the dude.
00:07:57
Speaker 2: Absolutely.
00:07:58
Speaker 1: Just go buy it yourself.
00:07:59
Speaker 4: Yeah, you do have to because you don't want to have to rely on somebody else and then that's just uncomfortable.
00:08:04
Speaker 1: And I don't know how that is or whatever, but that would be, I would never buy a house with a boyfriend, girlfriend.
00:08:09
Speaker 2: Yeah, girl, like, mm-mm.
00:08:10
Speaker 4: Now, here's what's trending in the Bay Area and beyond.
00:08:16
Speaker 1: Your favorite website might be running a little slow today. I don't know. Millions of websites around the world scrambling to fix a major security problem. I'm going to explain this the way My boyfriend, Chet GPT, explained. I asked it to explain to me like I'm five.
00:08:30
Speaker 6: Nice.
00:08:31
Speaker 1: And I know there are a lot of tech people listening because it is the base. You're going to laugh at me, but here we go. Hackers have discovered a way to potentially break into websites using PHP, which is a programming language that helps power most of the Internet. This is where Chet dumbed it down for me. Think of it like discovering that millions of buildings have the same faulty lock. A fix has been released, but websites have to install it. Some are temporarily shutting down. Banks, airlines, government websites, all among those affected. The good news is if you're just browsing the Internet, none of this is your responsibility.
00:09:00
Speaker 2: Oh, there we go.
00:09:01
Speaker 1: It's up to them to fix their websites. I'll keep you posted on that.
00:09:04
Speaker 4: Nice.
00:09:06
Speaker 1: Let's go into music as well. You know what? I want to start with my favorite. Billie Eilish and her brother Phineas have teamed up with John Hardy for a jewelry collection. And, you know, these are these are affordable. So prices ranging from one hundred ninety five bucks to twenty four hundred. They're also hard at work on. Wait for it. A new album! Taylor has been complaining about, where's the Billie Eilish album?
00:09:28
Speaker 6: No, seriously.
00:09:29
Speaker 2: I think about it every single day.
00:09:31
Speaker 1: On behalf of the other avocados, a.k.a. Billie Eilish fans. Your girl's looking out for you.
00:09:35
Speaker 5: Don't worry.
00:09:37
Speaker 1: Hilary Duff releasing a Christmas EP called Holiday Things Tomorrow. Three original songs, a cover of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, and a new version of Last Christmas. I think that's adorable. We have already started listening to Christmas music at my house. I came home three days ago and i'll have yourself a merry little christmas going on in.
00:09:58
Speaker 4: The living room i play uh all you want or all i want for christmas is you by mariah carey year round oh yeah like during the summer.
00:10:05
Speaker 1: Oh for show um i just confirmed my tickets for the stanford game tomorrow hey so look if you're coming through for some stanford football holla at your boy I don't know if our coworker, Greg, so I'm going with one of the guys in the sales department.
00:10:19
Speaker 4: G-Reg.
00:10:20
Speaker 1: I don't know if G-Reg's going to appreciate me giving out our seats, but I do like hugs. So if you're going to the Stanford game tomorrow, I am in section 113, row M, as in Marcus.
00:10:29
Speaker 2: There you go.
00:10:30
Speaker 1: Come through. Let's hug it out. And by the way, I'm just going to put this in the universe. If anybody's tailgating at the game, I would love an invite, and I'm a good time.
00:10:39
Speaker 5: He is.
00:10:41
Speaker 2: But don't ask him about tequila.
00:10:42
Speaker 4: No.
00:10:43
Speaker 2: Then it's going off.
00:10:44
Speaker 1: I'll start going off. I will bring a good bottle, though. So if anybody's tailgating at the Stanford game, let me know. Send a DM at Marcus in the morning. Would love to meet. Valkyries got handled last night, unfortunately, in Atlanta. 97 to 71 was the final.
00:10:57
Speaker 6: No.
00:10:58
Speaker 1: We're now down two to one in the series.
00:11:00
Speaker 2: Okay. What does this mean?
00:11:02
Speaker 1: Well, we're going to play again Saturday. Is it Saturday? Okay. Game four is Saturday morning, 10 a.m. our time. on NBC and Peacock from Atlanta. And we're down two to one in a best of seven series. That's what it means.
00:11:17
Speaker 5: Okay.
00:11:17
Speaker 1: So basically go Valkyries. Let's send them some vibes. Finishing strong with producer Taylor's daily poll. What do you have?
00:11:23
Speaker 4: It is national nut day today. So we're asking what is the best kind of nut? Is it peanuts, cashews, almonds, or Walnut Creek?
00:11:31
Speaker 1: I'm cool. You're dumb for that. The creek, the nut. The nut. You're a freak for the creek.
00:11:41
Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
00:11:43
Speaker 1: Can't believe you. All right. Where am I? Star 101.3 FM up on Instagram. Check the stories to participate. That's what I have that's trending. It is Marcus in the morning and it is back. This is called Second Date Update. We do it every morning, Monday through Friday. And we're trying to bring people together. Maybe you went on a first date. Maybe there was a misunderstanding. You got ghosted. We're going to call the ghost-er. I know why they Ghosted on the Ghost E. Tony is here. Tony, good morning.
00:12:11
Speaker 5: Morning.
00:12:12
Speaker 1: So, I want to know about your date. This obviously happened in Los Gatos, but tell me about this lady who was ghosted. Her name is McKenna, is that right?
00:12:20
Speaker 5: Yes, that's right, McKenna. And we met for the first time last Saturday. We went to a restaurant downtown, and, you know, I was a little bit nervous because, like, I've just moved to Las Gadas, and I haven't really dated much. But she was great. She immediately put me at ease. We spent most of lunch just, like, trading stories about bad dates and our families and, like, what it's like to adjust to life in the Bay Area, you know?
00:12:52
Speaker 1: Sure.
00:12:52
Speaker 5: It all went great. So I thought we had a real connection, especially because toward the end, she suggested that we check out another restaurant together sometime. So, like, we're setting up. A time to meet again.
00:13:04
Speaker 1: That's a gimme, isn't it?
00:13:05
Speaker 5: That's what I thought, but she's gone completely silent.
00:13:08
Speaker 6: All right.
00:13:08
Speaker 1: Well, as I mentioned, where are you from, by the way?
00:13:12
Speaker 5: Originally down in Palmdale. So, you know, still California.
00:13:16
Speaker 1: Okay. Not the desert.
00:13:19
Speaker 5: Sure.
00:13:20
Speaker 1: Well, welcome. Okay. Let's call McKenna and see what's going on. Go ahead and mute your phone, but we're going to figure out why she ghosted on you. Okay.
00:13:28
Speaker 3: Okay.
00:13:28
Speaker 1: Here we go.
00:13:37
Speaker 4: Hello?
00:13:38
Speaker 1: Hi, is this McKenna?
00:13:40
Speaker 3: This is she.
00:13:41
Speaker 1: McKenna, this is Marcus calling from Star 101.3. How are you?
00:13:44
Speaker 3: I'm doing okay. How are you?
00:13:48
Speaker 1: I'm doing well. Do you listen to the show.
00:13:50
Speaker 5: In the morning?
00:13:53
Speaker 3: I've heard of the show, but I don't listen.
00:13:56
Speaker 1: No problem at all. Listen, so I wonder if I might borrow you for a segment we're doing. If you wouldn't mind being on the air with us for a minute. It's called Second Date Update. I got your number from... A listener of our show who says he took you out on a date a couple Saturdays ago and that maybe you're ghosting. And I'd love to know why, just for self-improvement, what my guy did wrong. Do you have a second to talk about a date with a guy named Tony? Do you even remember him?
00:14:23
Speaker 4: Oh, sure.
00:14:24
Speaker 3: Yes, I remember Tony. Okay.
00:14:27
Speaker 1: So, are you ignoring him right now?
00:14:29
Speaker 6: No.
00:14:31
Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I'm not really ignoring him. He seemed like a perfectly nice guy. It was a nice date, but he did something that was a little off to me, made me sort of question him.
00:14:43
Speaker 1: What did he do?
00:14:44
Speaker 3: Well, during the date, he mentioned that he just moved for work and that his family lives in Southern California, so he doesn't have a lot of friends nearby. And then he joked that he needed.
00:14:58
Speaker 1: to.
00:14:58
Speaker 3: Find someone local to list as his emergency contact. And I said, well, hopefully you don't have any emergencies. And he said, actually, you seem pretty responsible. Can I put you down? And I thought that that was a joke. And then the next morning I got a text from him saying, hey, what's your last name? I'm updating my emergency contact at the gym. And, you know, I laughed thinking it was an inside joke, but he actually wanted to put me down as his emergency contact after one date. And that sort of freaked me out. And I told him I wasn't really comfortable with that. He said, you know, he texts back and said, it's not a big deal. They'll only call you.
00:15:38
Speaker 1: If something happened to me.
00:15:39
Speaker 3: But, you know, I don't even know that I'm going to know him for very long. So it just, I didn't, I just stopped responding after that.
00:15:48
Speaker 1: Okay. Now it all makes sense. If I could, I'm going to stop you right there. The other part of this is that Tony has been listening. And I'd love to bring him on and let's just, cause now Tony, are you there? Tony, Tony, what are you doing? Yes. That's weird.
00:16:09
Speaker 5: I don't, I don't think that's the case. I think, I think it sounds a lot stranger than it actually is. Like if you hear it told that way in a story, it sounds a lot weirder, but like, I don't know.
00:16:21
Speaker 1: It's, How is it not weird?
00:16:24
Speaker 5: Well, I mean, I just I just joined a gym and I needed an emergency contact. And my parents are, you know, hundreds of miles away. And I was like, oh, OK, I should have someone local. And I know you. So let's just throw you down.
00:16:38
Speaker 3: Kenny, we've only been on one date. Yeah, but I don't know.
00:16:43
Speaker 6: We hit it off.
00:16:44
Speaker 5: It seemed like someone I could trust. It seemed like that was a good idea.
00:16:48
Speaker 3: What do you expect me to do if they call me for you?
00:16:52
Speaker 5: I mean, they're probably not going to call you. It's not like they're going to call you unless something really bad happens. And if that does, I don't know, call my family and let them know.
00:17:03
Speaker 3: I'm really not comfortable being your emergency contact, so this is why I stopped responding. Okay.
00:17:08
Speaker 1: Okay.
00:17:09
Speaker 7: Okay.
00:17:09
Speaker 1: Tony, you see how this is weird, right? Like, you don't even barely know this lady.
00:17:14
Speaker 3: I don't know.
00:17:14
Speaker 5: I mean, I do know her.
00:17:16
Speaker 1: She's trustworthy.
00:17:17
Speaker 5: I'm not making the same connection here, but I guess if you think it's weird, whatever. I can respect that. Yeah.
00:17:24
Speaker 3: I don't want to handle your medical emergencies just yet. It's kind of moving too fast for me, and it just made me uncomfortable.
00:17:31
Speaker 1: What if we started over? McKenna, would you consider a second date? Tony, let's not do whatever that was again.
00:17:38
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:17:39
Speaker 5: No, that's fine. We can talk about that after a couple more dates.
00:17:42
Speaker 1: All right.
00:17:43
Speaker 3: No, I'm okay.
00:17:45
Speaker 1: Okay.
00:17:46
Speaker 3: Thank you.
00:17:46
Speaker 1: You got it. Thank you. Hang on. These calls never cease to amaze me. Yeah. Second date update. It's Marcus in the morning. Producer Taylor is here.
00:17:56
Speaker 2: Good morning.
00:17:56
Speaker 1: I have a weird question to ask, but I'm kind of in my feelings this morning.
00:17:59
Speaker 2: Okay.
00:17:59
Speaker 1: Is there anybody in your life... who makes you inadvertently feel inadequate, like not on purpose, but just by existing because they're better at things than you are, that you should know how to do your father-in-law. Maybe your mother-in-law, maybe, maybe it's grandma comes over and just whips it up in the kitchen. And it's just exponentially a better cook than you are. Okay. And then your husband wonders why she has to leave. I don't know. The reason I ask is because my cousin was just in town and he inadvertently emasculates me every time he comes through.
00:18:32
Speaker 3: Why?
00:18:33
Speaker 1: Like I say to myself, is this the husband that my wife actually needs? Oh my gosh. Because he's very handy. Okay. And I am not handy. I can do small things, certain things, but he comes through and he, so I love him to, we're the same age. He's my favorite cousin. He comes to visit about four times a year because he loves hanging out at the beach, but he does AV installs for a living. So he put in my entire TV system. He gave us a rack room with the modem and the router and wired it all through the house. And any little projects that my wife needs done, the honey-do list that I've been putting off, he'll just come through and knock them out in two minutes. Oh, nice. So on a certain level, that's on me. Example, he shows up and the door handle on our refrigerator, one of the screws busted off and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. And it's still openable, but it's janky.
00:19:25
Speaker 5: OK.
00:19:25
Speaker 1: And he's like, oh, give me hold my beer. Runs down to his. He's brought his work truck with all the things in it. Comes back and all I hear is 30 seconds later. Handle handled.
00:19:38
Speaker 2: There you go.
00:19:39
Speaker 1: That's one.
00:19:39
Speaker 2: Your wife must love when he comes around.
00:19:43
Speaker 1: Now you're just trolling me. Example number two. She once she found out. he was coming she couldn't order her stand-up work desk fast enough because cousin peter will put it in for me i.
00:19:57
Speaker 4: Know that's one thing i do love like sometimes i'll hit up like a tinder date just so they can build something.
00:20:02
Speaker 1: For me taylor over here checking profiles to make sure it says handyman on it right So, yeah. So I came home one day to the sound of and he not only was installing her work desk, but wiring it up, making sure the Internet worked properly. And then this is where I got emasculated. Three days later, he's still at the house. I come home. Same sounds. And he is fixing the hooks that hold the blinds over the back door. Because apparently there were no hooks. And I looked at my wife and I said, well, you didn't tell me that you needed new hooks installed. I could have done that. She goes, well, you should have just noticed.
00:20:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, you should have noticed, Marcus. What's wrong with you?
00:20:49
Speaker 1: Literally. Anybody else go through this where they're like, I didn't even know that was an issue. But apparently my eyes weren't open wide enough. So then, of course. Done. Anything else? Okay.
00:21:02
Speaker 6: All right.
00:21:03
Speaker 1: Me trying to figure out which corner of the room to sit in. Am I the only one? Somebody in your life who just inadvertently makes you feel inadequate.
00:21:13
Speaker 2: I feel like that's definitely like a dad problem.
00:21:15
Speaker 1: I guess so.
00:21:16
Speaker 6: You know?
00:21:17
Speaker 1: Maybe I just need to be better. I don't know.
00:21:19
Speaker 2: Yeah, you should start working on the to-do list that your wife gives you.
00:21:24
Speaker 1: Asking me to clean the garage since 2015.
00:21:26
Speaker 2: Exactly.
00:21:27
Speaker 1: Jump on it before my cousin comes back to visit.
00:21:29
Speaker 6: All right.
00:21:30
Speaker 1: It's time for Good News Bay Area News. We do good news at 740 and 840 weekday mornings. This one is inspiring. Producer Taylor, you're going to love it.
00:21:40
Speaker 4: Okay.
00:21:40
Speaker 1: A lady in Pleasanton who is an absolute superhero. Her name is Catherine Breed, and at 33 years old, has become the first person, period, to swim the entire length of the coast of California.
00:21:53
Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh.
00:21:54
Speaker 6: Wow.
00:21:54
Speaker 1: She completed a 900-mile swim along the coastline in 111 days, swimming roughly 10 miles a day, battling strong currents, large waves, severe weather. And she says what she's trying to do is to promote, she's promoting ocean conservation and then wants to inspire more women and girls to explore the water.
00:22:15
Speaker 2: How did she sleep?
00:22:17
Speaker 1: So there's a boat that followed her to document the whole thing to make sure that she, you know, did what she says she's going to do. She slept on the boat.
00:22:23
Speaker 2: Okay, okay.
00:22:23
Speaker 1: In between swims.
00:22:24
Speaker 2: Got it.
00:22:25
Speaker 1: But then I did the deep dive and went to her website. You can check out katherinebreed.com if you want some inspiration. She says, I want to inspire and motivate others to see What they are capable of. It is a privilege to see how tough you can be. And then her tagline is, grit is your superpower.
00:22:41
Speaker 4: I love this for her. I would 100% die, but I do love this for her.
00:22:46
Speaker 1: Yeah, but let's give her her flowers. Yes. Never mind whether or not we would make it, because the answer is no.
00:22:50
Speaker 2: Absolutely not.
00:22:51
Speaker 1: I've seen the triangle of where the great whites hang out.
00:22:54
Speaker 2: Also, do you know how cold the water is here in California? Absolutely not.
00:22:58
Speaker 1: I'm fairly certain. Catherine was wearing a wetsuit.
00:23:01
Speaker 4: No, there's not a thick enough wetsuit that I could wear that would make me get in that water.
00:23:05
Speaker 1: Okay, back to her.
00:23:06
Speaker 2: Maybe 10 cocktails deep and I'm getting in the water.
00:23:10
Speaker 1: This isn't Cabo.
00:23:12
Speaker 2: Should be.
00:23:13
Speaker 1: Anyway, congratulations to Catherine. I think she lives in Mill Valley now. I don't know, but she's from Pleasanton.
00:23:17

00:26:08
Speaker 1: All right, Zach comes back in Newark. We'll see how he did against Jonathan and Milpitas. Question number one. What line divides the Earth into northern and southern hemispheres?
00:26:15
Speaker 2: Both of you knew that that was the equator.
00:26:18
Speaker 1: What blood type is known as the universal donor?
00:26:20
Speaker 4: You both said O positive. The answer we were looking for was O negative.
00:26:24
Speaker 1: Question three. How many ghosts are chasing Pac-Man?
00:26:27
Speaker 2: Both of you said four. The answer we were looking for was four.
00:26:30
Speaker 1: Got the tie so far. Next question. Which empire was ruled by Genghis Khan?
00:26:35
Speaker 4: Zach said the Persian Empire. Jonathan said the Mongol Empire. The correct answer is the Mongol Empire.
00:26:42
Speaker 1: Jonathan, pulling ahead. Final question. What is the name of the ship that Jack Sparrow captains in the 2003 movie Pirates of the Caribbean?
00:26:49
Speaker 4: Jonathan said Black Pearl, which was correct. So that brings our final score, four to two. Jonathan's our winner.
00:26:55
Speaker 1: Jonathan, you've got the tickets for Matchbox 20. That's awesome.
00:26:58
Speaker 3: I told my wife I was going to call it a week's turn.
00:27:01
Speaker 1: There it is. All right, we've got a date night coming June 8th, Shoreline, courtesy of Live Nation. They're going on sale at least Friday at 10, livenation.com. But you're all set up, my dude. Nice work. What are you talking about?
00:27:12
Speaker 4: Play with us again at weekday mornings at 8.05 a.m.
00:27:15
Speaker 1: And add to what you know about that podcast as a preset on our iHeart app and never miss an episode. Star 101.3, it's Marcus in the morning. Today's Daily Poll has some people a little twisted up, not going to lie. For National Nut Day, what is the best kind of nut? Is it peanuts, cashews, almonds? or just Walnut Creek?
00:27:33
Speaker 6: Good morning, Marcus and Taylor. I have to say that living in Walnut Creek, I really do not like the nickname The Nut, but your poll this morning has made me laugh and has put a smile on my face and my children's face. But anyway, I still don't like it being called The Nut. It's The Creek to me and always will be, but it is pretty funny and I hope we win.
00:27:57
Speaker 5: Bye.
00:27:58
Speaker 1: See, that's the key is I hope we win. So jump online... And do it for Sarah, who checked in from Walnut Creek. The nut. Let's make that our favorite nut. It is Marcus in the morning, 839. Thank you for all the talkbacks this morning on what we're discussing. One of the things we were talking about were, what was it, micro practices? Things you can do in under 30 seconds that are just going to brighten your day. And I brought up the Zumba. Oh, yeah. If I didn't think I was going to be judged, this literally would be me.
00:28:27
Speaker 2: You should do Zumba, though.
00:28:29
Speaker 1: I know, because we got a talkback. I'm still Zooming, sorry.
00:28:35
Speaker 7: Hey, Marcus and Taylor. Hands down, Zumba is the best, funnest, and honestly, cheapest form of therapy. You should definitely do it. You should even come and dance with us. Making Wave Studios in Oakland. We donate, and we've donated over $ 54, 000. Love it. Just to help everyone in need.
00:28:54
Speaker 4: Love you.
00:28:55
Speaker 7: Dance it out.
00:28:56
Speaker 1: There it is. Dance it out.
00:28:57
Speaker 2: Amazing.
00:28:58
Speaker 6: I love it.
00:28:59
Speaker 1: Thank you, Adriana, for the talkback. In fact... Oh, sorry. Now I'm in my feelings.
00:29:04
Speaker 2: We're going to go dance it out. I would pay money to see you do that.
00:29:08
Speaker 1: No, you would.
00:29:09
Speaker 2: Please let me videotape.
00:29:10
Speaker 1: Just to get the content. There was actually a show that I loved watching that Jennifer Lopez produced called Dance Life. Didn't anybody else watch this in 07? Literally, it followed around her backup dancers with their daily lives. You know, they work at the Gap or they work as ballets or whatever. And then when life got tough at 20 after the hour, they would just go to the studio and dance it out.
00:29:28
Speaker 2: There we go.
00:29:29
Speaker 1: Okay, we have to move on. Thank you so much. Again, the talkback is open. It's the little red microphone. If you're streaming Star 101.3 right now, it's Marcus in the morning. We're getting out of here. It is absolute sweater weather, absolute winter weather, fall weather. Give me something. I'm thinking I'm going to make a chicken pot pie tonight for sure. Have a great day. Be careful of the rain. It'll be gone in a couple days, and we'll talk to you tomorrow.
